Starting point is 00:00:45 The conference finals have started, but Rose wants to talk about off-campus. This is the hockey show. Oh, yeah. David Jorke of the hockey news at home because he's stuffy. Ethan and Rose is in this studio with me. This is the hockey show. I'm Roy Bellamy, the Eastern Conference Final get underway last night.
Starting point is 00:01:17 And it was rather surprising because the Canadians, as John Zanzler likes to say, took that ass. They defeated the Carolina hurricanes. Definitely looked like it was more than just rink rust. I mean, they were off for a while. But that first period, scoring 33 seconds in was Carolina, but then four unanswered goals. Their defense looked terrible. They gave up multiple break rate goals.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Your eyes, Slikowski, with a beautiful goal. And the third, it was just about as bad of a game as the Hurricanes have played all season. What did you see in that game, David? Interestingly, when you dig a little bit deeper, it wasn't as bad as the score. would indicate and as the chances would indicate. It looked terrible. They look bad. When I dove into the analytics this morning after
Starting point is 00:02:13 going through the game last night, I was actually kind of surprised to see Carolina was like really fairly dominant in a lot of the possession areas. The first period was a little bit more even. Possessionally, Carolina still had the edge, but it was a little bit more even. Scoring chances were pretty even between the two. But as the game went on,
Starting point is 00:02:29 it was really Carolina until the third period when Montreal finally was able to dig their heels in a little bit and limit some of the chances, even though Carolina had the puck. But similarly to what we saw in game one between the Avalanche and Vegas, I think it kind of sets us up for what could be a really exciting series just because of the favorite, the teams that we all thought were going to kind of have a really easy, not easy, but you know, that we thought we're going to come out of it.
Starting point is 00:02:52 They both struggled a bit, and now we're set up, you know, the road team's already won in both series. So it hopefully means that we're going to get a long series for both. but I think when looking, when digging around with the way that the analytics were for this game, Carolina wasn't quite as bad as we thought. Well, specifically, I'm talking about the transition defense because the rushes for Montreal looked pretty dominant. And I guess they had those multiple breakaway goals. Ethan, what did you see in this game?
Starting point is 00:03:21 I saw what I usually see from the Carolina Hurricanes in the conference final, Roy. I saw that the analytics judged them out as being the better team. And then you watch the game and they were thoroughly dominated by the Montreal Canadiens. They had a good spell in the second period. They were the better team in the second period. They got the lone goal in the second period. But once the Canadian ends escaped with a two-goal lead from that flurry, it just felt like that was it for the Keynes.
Starting point is 00:03:47 And they didn't really have anything for them in the third period. This is what we're used to with the Carolina Hurricanes. They run through the Metropolitan Division and then they get to the Atlantic Division and they face a sturdy opponent in the Eastern Conference Final, and their game kind of doesn't match up. And the Montreal style was a great counter to the Carolina style. They beat them on breakouts. They scored, what, two or three breakaway goals.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Slavkovsky beat them in one-on-one skill. We're seeing that skill that overwhelms Carolina, who doesn't have that high-end superstar, that game-breaking type player, right? Montreal has a couple of them. Demidov had a great moment last night. Slavkovsky, like I mentioned, had that tremendous goal in the third period that we'll see you later on. And Caulfield had a big moment as well.
Starting point is 00:04:35 So their breakout defense was terrible in that first period. They gave up four goals on breakouts in this game. Their defense was not good. And it was because a lot of, they were forcing, you know, all their guys were coming towards the puck because they play that aggressive style of defense. It was leaving a guy open. and Montreal was able to find the guy in behind and score. So look, I do agree Carolina is better than what we saw last night. There's no doubt about that.
Starting point is 00:05:04 But if you're a Carolina fan, are you not saying to yourself, here we go again? Like, they get to the Eastern Conference Final and they get waxed. And I understand that the story will be that it was because of Rust, but that looked to me like the same game that the Panthers played against the Carolina Hurricanes four times in the Eastern Conference Final last year on their way to a general sweep. So I think it's more than just Russ that went into it. The Canadians had a great game plan. They limited Carolina to just 25 shots. It's not like Carolina put up one of these giant shot totals. And the biggest thing they did, Roy, is they beat Carolina how you beat Carolina.
Starting point is 00:05:40 They kept them onto the wings and they were just throwing empty calorie shots on net. And they weren't even getting to the net most of the time. Montreal won 30 to 12 in the shots block department. That can be the key in this series. It's just not even letting the puck get to the net because they're forcing Carolina to the edges. And it's much harder to get pucks on net if they're on the edges rather than playing from right in front of the net. It's how Vegas beat Colorado the night before. They got into shooting lanes and they blocked shots. Dave, where you see Carolina adjusting in this series.
Starting point is 00:06:13 Well, I think first off, it's at a start with what you mentioned, Roy, and that's their transition defense. It's where they struggled the most. It's where Montreal generated their most opportunities. So I think right straight away would be trying to limit what, Montreal can do, can do, uh, whenever, whether it's a turning the puck over, whether it's coming out of their own zone. Uh, otherwise, I think, uh, you know, as Rod Bernamor said, it's one of those games where you just kind of have to throw it away. Uh, there are going to be some things they can build on, but the, the highlights of the game all were Montreal. So I would
Starting point is 00:06:41 think that we're going to see Carolina bounce back in game two, but, you know, kind of what Ethan was talking about. What are they like, Owen 11 or 11 or 11? They're 11th. They're 0 and 7 in game 1s in the Eastern Conference Final in franchise history, and they're one in 17 in their last 18 Eastern Conference Finals games since 2009. Yeah, that has me excited for game two, because that has to be weighing on Carolina. They're going to get asked about that for the next two days. That's going to be a big topic. So you would think that going into it, that's going to be something on their minds, whether they want to admit it or not, certainly going to be on Rod's mind because he's been there for all of that. So, yeah, now I'm just more excited
Starting point is 00:07:20 for game two because if Montreal comes out and somehow wins game two, how is that series not basically over at this point? The way that they've been playing combined with Carolina's struggles at this point of the season, like Carolina's got a win game two. I think it's really dangerous if you're RBA if you say that's a burn the tape game because there is so much that they have to learn from in that game. You can't just say that we'll show up in game two and we'll be better or if we play the same way in game two that, you know, a bounce goes this way and a bounce goes that way, will win. Like Carolina has to change something because if they show up and play the same game that they did in game one, they will get burned in game two and all of a sudden things get
Starting point is 00:07:57 really frisky if they're going back to Sontra Bell. Well, I almost said Bell Center. See? You see? Because you know, that's correct. I said the proper name though. If they go, if they go back to Sontra Bell down O2, I agree with Dave. Like you're looking and the demons start warring up if you're Carolina, right? Like you start to see the ghosts of Christmas past. And I would not, that barn was nervous last night. It got quiet fast. I would not want to be a Carolina fan if I go down 02. I don't want to be a Carolina fan anyway.
Starting point is 00:08:28 If I'm Montreal, you know what I do for game three? I bring in like Matthew Kichuk, or I bring in somebody that's had a part in Carolina's conference final dismay over the last, you know, decade, whatever it's been. I'd bring in some of those guys. And that's our special guest tonight. Here's Sam Bennett, you know, something like that. just to get in their heads a little bit more. You call Rod Brindamore RBA.
Starting point is 00:08:52 Is that a situation where if it, I mean, you do it if it's a hyphen in his name, but that's an apostrophe, Ethan. Does anybody else call him RBA? I think that's kind of how he's widely known. Is it not RBA? I feel like people refer to him as RBA. Roddy. Roddy.
Starting point is 00:09:08 Roddy the body, right? Rod the bod. Rod the bod. Roy, there's going to be a lot of questions asked. Yeah. If they go on and lose this series in four or five, which let's just slow down a little bit. Same thing with Vegas and Colorado, right?
Starting point is 00:09:20 There's still two really good teams that we're dealing with here. But if they go on and lose in a similar way to the way they have the last four times they've been to the Eastern Conference finals, there's going to be a lot of questions to asking Carolina about Rod Brindamore this off season. So Montreal season ended, I'm sorry, the Buffalo Sabres season ended because they lost to the Montreal Canadiens. And Buffalo immediately after the series ended, extended Lindy Ruff's contract that was well deserved for him. as we talk about the Canadians moving on to the second round. They got there because Alex Tuck did nothing, literally did nothing. Not a single solitary point in that series.
Starting point is 00:10:00 After coming off a pretty good series against Boston, he was a minus 10 against the Montreal Canadiens. And he's going into the offseason as a free agent. So his agent says that his performance, his poor performance in that series won't affect his market value. and I believe Buffalo wants him back. But does that performance affect the number that Buffalo offers him coming up once they start continuing the negotiation, David? I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:10:28 I think when you're looking big picture, he had such a big part of their success this season. And really, he's been such a great, like, Buffalo Sabre since he came over from Vegas. Like, I just think that you've got to keep him in town, keep that locker room together. like, if anything, you would put a chip on his shoulder the way he played against Montreal in that series. Like, that was rough. He's been their heart and soul now. So I'd be really surprised if they let him go to free agency and they let him test the waters.
Starting point is 00:10:57 One thing I will say about Tuck is he can get paid if he goes to free agency because the free agency class this year is weak. And he will probably be the top name on the market. And if he's not on the market, if Buffalo extends him, then this free agency class. class, it looks even uglier than it already does. So if he wants to cash in, then he should absolutely go to market. But if he wants to remain, you know, he's a Buffalo guy. He grew up in Syracuse. So he's upstate New York. That's his territory. Yeah. And he grew up a Sabres fan. And when he came in back, came over in the Jack Eichael trade, that was huge for him. It's been a huge
Starting point is 00:11:34 part of that rebuild. And he did, we can't forget, he did have a great series against Boston. He was arguably their best player against Boston. But for whatever reason, he just couldn't get going against Montreal, but it's definitely going to affect his number, I would say. I think that performance, and I thought he played well in game seven, but he just couldn't get on the board. It was fascinating to watch. Rosie, you have something on the playoffs? Yeah, I think when you have 11 days to rest, you lose the momentum and you cannot lose momentum, because I'm going to give you an example.
Starting point is 00:12:03 When I started watching a show and I binge watch and I stop for a week, then I forget who the character is. So I think they need not to rest. They need the momentum. So that's what happened in Carolina. Like 11 days, they forgot that they were... They forgot they were in the playoffs. They forgot who the main characters were in the show. They forgot to cover your ice left Kovsky in Philadelphia.
Starting point is 00:12:24 Yeah, they were not. I forget about, wow. Am I here? Yes, no? So I think those 11 days helped us because, well, we don't want Carolina to win, but... It's a constant debate about whether it's rink rust or having rest going into a series as opposed to the team that just came off of game seven or game six that has to go straight into another series.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Who has the better options in that situation? It seems as if the underdogs did because Vegas won. I think when you have the momentum and when you have that adrenaline and everything, you're just, let's go get another one. Let's go get another one. But if you have the rest, like you don't want to go back. Yeah. Sorry, right.
Starting point is 00:13:10 I thought the biggest place that you saw the rust factor was Freddie Anderson, who was great in the first couple rounds and was let up five on 21 shots last night. He was really bad last night. And like Carolina shook off the rust after the first period, right? Like the second period, they had a shift where they were in the zone for like two and a half minutes or something. Like there were plenty of flurries in that period and they shook off the rust and they looked more like the Carolina. We came to know. That's why I continue to say that they have. to be cautious about blaming it
Starting point is 00:13:42 all on Rust and we have to look at what happened and say Montreal beat them in the exact way that teams have beaten Carolina in the past and they have to learn something from it and look they always say they're going to play the way they play so they've got to change something
Starting point is 00:13:58 so in the West what will Vegas I'm sorry what will Colorado have to do to adapt and adjust to what Vegas just did to them in game one this is for date Tonight. Well, thanks for setting me up there, Roy. I appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:14:14 You got it. Sorry about that. I forgot. You're on Zoom. I got to get used to you being on Zoom. Yes. I think if I'm Colorado, I just want to keep doing what I did in Game 1, aside from missing the net so many times.
Starting point is 00:14:26 Like, they put so many puckts on net that game. They had so many grade A chances that just missed on. One timers were flying wide. If I'm Colorado, I'm actually feeling pretty good going into game two, thinking so much went wrong for us in that game. And we still had a lot of chances. They were in the game right up until the end. They had that nice comeback in the third period that almost happened.
Starting point is 00:14:44 Thankfully, it didn't for our overtime street. But no, man, I'm very pro-Colorado tonight. I think they're going to come and try to blow the doors off. Yeah, something on Rust versus Rest versus Asch. Well, no, just going back to, you know, you guys were talking about, like, Carolina's Rust against Montreal in game one. And I'm thinking it just feels very similar to a year ago at this time. When Carolina marched through the first two rounds, five games each,
Starting point is 00:15:10 time. Florida came out of the second round after that long seven-game series against Toronto and flipped right into the Eastern Conference final where they turned around and scored 10 goals in the first two games in Carolina. So there may be something to that rust specifically with this Carolina team. Okay, let's really quickly, since game one for both series have happened, who on each team could win the Khan-Smife trophy today? Ooh. Demidov. Dimadov.
Starting point is 00:15:42 All right, Dimadov. I mean, Montreal, it seems like there's a new a new candidate popping up like recently. You know, Slavkovsky, I feel like is the name right now. I would go. Maybe Govish. I was going to say Dovish. He's been fantastic.
Starting point is 00:15:57 And he was great again last night, I thought. And he's had a couple stinkers. But overall, he has been tremendous for them. The other... What about, Carolina? Logan? Stankovin? He's got seven goals. Only one assist, though. Jackson Blake and Taylor Hall lead the team in points. I'll tell you who it certainly won't be is Sebastian Aho or Seth Jarvis five points each right now.
Starting point is 00:16:19 Two of Sebastian Aho's points have been empty net goals. They got to get more. It might have been. No, absolutely. Freddie Anderson or Stankovin would be the two guys for me. You just give it to that whole Stankovin line right now. Marner is the guy if you're in Vegas. he has been the best player in the playoffs. And in Colorado, I mean, you could give it to any number of guys, but I guess it would just be Nathan McKinnon by default. Or at this point, if Kail McCar comes back in the lineup and then they go on a run here and win the rest of the series, like you got to give it to McCar.
Starting point is 00:16:50 Not either one of the goaltenders. Does Nazim Kadri get a nod? Because he's been pretty lights out too. Not, not for me in that West series. I think Marner has been so far and above the best player in the playoffs, Roy, that you can't give it to Hart, even though he has been great. And also, I just don't want to see Carter Hart win the Gonside Trophy. And Wedgwood and Blackwood have been on and off.
Starting point is 00:17:13 So for me, if it's, like I said, Colorado, like it would just kind of be a legacy achievement award at that point to give it to McKinnon. Dave, what about you? I agree. No, I think it's kind of easy with Vegas. It's going to be Mitch Marner. Lean between Staten and Anderson in Carolina. I mean, Anderson probably before yesterday was the surprise.
Starting point is 00:17:33 But yeah, in Colorado, I don't know. Like, I'd want to maybe think about one of the non-traditional guys. That's why I threw my car's name out there. But it's hard to go against the norm. Like, Colorado's top guys are playing like their top guys. Rosie? I don't know any other players, but I just want to say how. You didn't tell me how many handsome players were on this roster.
Starting point is 00:17:54 And I just found out about Brett Howder-Wee or whatever. Brett Howden. How do you mess up that name? Brett Howden actually isn't a bad shout for the Kahn-Smife. He leads the NHL and goals. Oh, there you go. There you go. I saw that game and everybody was very handsome and you guys didn't tell me. So I love this team except for the one guy that we hate, but wow, very handsome. So Brett Howden is Rosie's pick for the Kahn Spy Trophy. It's time for puck luck. And it's sponsored
Starting point is 00:18:21 by Draft Kings. Draft Kings, the crown is yours. David, what are you got? Make some money. All right. As I said earlier, I'm really feeling the Colorado avalanche tonight. So we're going to take Colorado on the puck line tonight. Not only are they going to win, but they're going to win by multiple goals. Before the overtime, clincher against Minnesota, Colorado had won five straight playoff games by at least two goals. This is a team that's rolling right now, and I think tonight they're going to flex their avalanche muscles.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Also in this game, on that note, we're going to take Carter Hart over 28 and a half saves. Colorado is the most shots in the playoffs. They had 31 in game one, and that's why they had, what, 20 shots blocked and 80 shot attempts. Vegas is about 30 or more shots in three straight games and five of their last seven. And finally, we're going to take Marty Nietzsche's over two and. and a half shots on goal. Pretty simple.
Starting point is 00:19:05 He's hit that in six of seven. He's getting over 20 minutes of ice time per game for Colorado. Parley odds, 5.50. Feeling kind of good about this one for whatever that's worth. So let's go make some money. All right.
Starting point is 00:19:17 It's time for Rosa. In Un Minuto, Rosie, what you have? Okay, so right now I'm going to give it to you in Spanish, but in English, I have a surprise. Are you ready? Hello, I just a minute of Hoggikorn Rose. And officially, Arrancar, the finals of the conference,
Starting point is 00:19:34 and apparently the favorites said, "'Oy not we're not "'trapes. "'Montreal, "'heed to give a "'privile and didn't "'seemned a six, two,
Starting point is 00:19:40 "'mintrault, "'and they made four goals "'in the first period "'de Demidob, "'it was doing "'as into a rookie! "'Pah! "'And Carolina?
Starting point is 00:19:48 "'Ah, Carolina. "'I'm gonna' "'Diacalianned down "'in'clock, "'and they still were "'tubbeds stillsvvvvah "'Stuvering vacations. "'Vegas were
Starting point is 00:19:56 "'Cololodododoo "'Hehus should not be named So, it's convicto on paris and the others and the avs extrana. Like I've my beater,
Starting point is 00:20:07 when I get riddle. So, Montreal went robing almas, Vegas, went to robin' partios, and the favorites,
Starting point is 00:20:16 one of the time are you invencyble, and the next you're having the highlights trying to to understand
Starting point is 00:20:20 this was a minute of hockey with Rose. To resume Seminal of Puckian and a
Starting point is 00:20:24 POS. All right, that was Rosa in one minute. Thank you very much. Pliquito cows?
Starting point is 00:20:29 Yeah. Coss. A little bit of chaos. Oh, they said cows. Speaking of chaos, it is time for. Rose in a minute. Rose, take it away. Okay, listen to this voice.
Starting point is 00:20:41 This is not country. Chalka-e-e-e. This is soccer? Four goals in the first life. Good night. Oh. Oh. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Carolina look like they miss the road. Uh-huh. It was like a mix of Shakira and. Sounds like a World Cup song Right? Yeah, like a Yeah, Shakira Making the World
Starting point is 00:21:07 Shakira should make the World Cup song Every year, let's be very clear about that Every four years Look at my car Cardi or like a cry Block shots Flying side Side to side
Starting point is 00:21:20 Montreal stealing soul Vegas stealing games You're still losing my wallet Something's never change Wow Losing my wallet Some things never change. All right, so that was Rose in a minute.
Starting point is 00:21:39 You guys didn't enjoy it because the voice talked, but great song. Yeah, we talked over the song. Sorry about that. We enjoyed the song. It's better than country, which is what you blasting in my ear during the watch-al-long. Yeah, that's why I was like, you know what? I'm just going to take it Shakira mode. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:56 Thanks for everybody who watched the watch along with us. That was very nice. We are going to do this again next week, Wednesday, for game four of the Eastern Conference Final. That would be Carolina at Montreal. So let's get to watch Montreal sweep at home. Yeah, so it could be an elimination game. Who knows? It's time for wins and fails.
Starting point is 00:22:20 Dave, where is your win? All right. So over the past week, a couple of the hometown remix jerseys may or may not have leaked. We don't know for sure, obviously. Nobody's confirming it. year they're going to be doing in the NHL hometown remix, which I guess is kind of like a updated version of the reverse retro's, just another
Starting point is 00:22:37 way for different jerseys, sell some more, all that cool stuff. So we saw Panthers leak, and we saw an Islander's leak. What? She asked if you liked it. Well, I was going to get to that. Thank you. Oh, sorry. I thought you liked it.
Starting point is 00:22:52 Sorry. I like that they're taking swings. Okay. The Islanders one feels like we've seen it kind of before with the fishermen, but I like that logo. I'm fine with it. The Panthers one is totally, totally off the rails. Like nothing we've seen before. It's like a highlighter color jersey.
Starting point is 00:23:08 But again, unique, different, cool. And again, I'm all four trying to stretch it out, trying to do different things with the jerseys. I'm very curious because these two are so different to see how the rest of the league is in a, you know, how they're going to look when they get played out or when they get released or whatever. But a good start, a fun start.
Starting point is 00:23:25 I'm in it. Looks like bananas. Yeah, I don't think that it's real. And the reason why I don't think that is real is, if you look at the Panthers jersey, the logo, the crest, is not big enough. That is way too small. Also. Well, I think it's a child's jersey is that. So that's why the logos look a little distorted for the size-wise.
Starting point is 00:23:46 Oh, and the captaincy designation. So the sea on the jersey, what the hell is that? That's illegible. A futuristic sea. I don't like it. Don't like it. Do better. My win of the week is the professional women's hockey league
Starting point is 00:24:01 has a new champion for the 2025-26 season, the Montreal Victoire. They took home the Walter Cup in the game 4-4-0-0-0-0-1. They won 3 to 1. Abby Roke scored twice and Anne-Reney Bebian. I believe that's how you pronounce the last name,
Starting point is 00:24:22 earned the shutout as the goal to the captain. The captain Marie-Philippe Poulin. was named the the playoff MVP for eight points in the playoffs. That was the most in the league's short history, the most, that has a record for most points in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:24:42 So good for Montreal, as they are the new champion, they were the best team in the league all season. So good for them. Ethan, what is your win? My winning in the week comes from last night's Montreal-Carolina game. If we can roll it here, this might be the best goal of the playoffs here, guys.
Starting point is 00:24:59 Yerai Slavkovsky. What a move around Andrejav Sveshnekov and then beats Freddie Anderson to the near post. Check this out again. Absolute, oh, beautiful move. Like I said, this might be the goal of the playoffs so far. Your eye, Slavkovsky scored two goals last night, one on the empty net, but they were his first two non-power play goals. If he gets rolling out five on five and that line gets rolling out five on five, look out. The Canadians are going to be really dangerous in this series. Rosie, you're winning a week.
Starting point is 00:25:27 This is my win of the week, play a voice. Ooh, but you can see. You're going to have to describe the video that, Rosie. So I love when people take videos and they make it funny and they have these voices for the goalies and they're like, ah, I can do this, but you can see. so it's a Carolina player tried to see and the goalie from the Montreal
Starting point is 00:26:00 trying to... Doves is the goal team. That's where it is? Yeah, so it's a reverse justice there. Yeah, it's a reverse screen. That's what it is. Yeah. I love it.
Starting point is 00:26:12 It's all for it. Let's go. All right. More goalie is trying to get around on players. I'm all for that. Let's go. Yeah, that's nice. But, yeah, like Sean Avery.
Starting point is 00:26:22 Yeah, exactly like Sean Avery, I guess, right? But that's an actual screen, actually. it looked like Dobis was trying to pull off of Sean Avery in that situation. Just silly. What is your fill of the week, though, Dave? From my fail of the week, we're heading to the IHF World Championships over in Switzerland for a game earlier this week between Norway and Slovenia. Early in the third period, Norway was already up to nothing.
Starting point is 00:26:47 Jacob Berglund went on a breakaway that was stopped by the Slovenian goalitender, Zan Uss. But after he stopped it, the puck kind of sat between his legs. He reached down to cover it with his glove and somehow knocked it into his own net under his body. I've never seen a goalie scoring himself in this way before. I feel terrible for Zan Ust. He's actually playing a really good game right now. They're playing Canada as we speak. But yeah, that's, oh, like I hate for the goalie-on-goly negativity,
Starting point is 00:27:16 but I'm sure he would agree with me that that's just so, so bad. Unfortunately. Yeah, that's not good at all. My fellow weakest Cindy Crosby. Now, you might be asking yourself, why? For no reason. Is Roy going with Cindy Crosby as his fellow in the week? Well, he didn't play in the second round, and you might just be a hating-ass hater.
Starting point is 00:27:38 So let me tell you why I might be hating-ass hating. It's because, and this, I'm going to relive this film in a second. But the Philadelphia Flyers had the fans go into the Exfinity Mobile Arena to paint the ice. That's what they usually do at the end of the season before, you know, the ice maintenance crew at Eterina chops up the ice and gets rid of it. So what happened was somebody painted a body figure on the face off dot that said, and it said RIP Bozo. This is where Sidney Crosby flopped during the series against the Flyers where gone at Hathaway skated past them as they were getting ready for. the face off and just an accidental high stick as he was moving by. And then,
Starting point is 00:28:29 Ah! Sniper got him. I've been shot. Down goes Cindy Crosby. So it was an opportunity for me to relive that fail once again. Ethan, what is your fail? The Carolina Hurricanes, Roy. One in 17 in their last 18 Eastern Conference Finals games.
Starting point is 00:28:47 That is rough. Yeah. That's it. That's my fail. Ethan clearly did his winning film. We're kind of low on time here. Ray, that's my fail. I've only had a whole week to come up
Starting point is 00:28:57 with wins and fail. So I'm going to come up with one. Is that not the fail of the week? Losing on your home ice, 6-2? I mean, that's your fail of the week. Sure. For those of you are watching on Draft Kings Network, please check out and subscribe to our

Starting point is 00:30:39 One thing that we all know is Dan's the goat of finding the worst possible take. But there's another kind of MVP slash goat that doesn't get enough credit. The friend who knows to show up with enough Miller Lights. Plus X. Rice. because they just know. The one who already has seats at the bar when you walk up, that is a Miller time, MVP. I've been on this show long enough to know that Dan is going to make everything about his feelings and Jeremy is going to push back on whatever I just said.
Starting point is 00:31:08 But here's something nobody on this show will argue with. Miller Life is the summer beer. The original light beer since 1975. This summer recognize your MVP's. Starting point is 00:31:46 We've gotten a lot better at talking about our mental health than we used to, right? People are more open about it, conversations are happening, and that's a really good thing. But asking for help, that still seems to be the hard part. Better Helps, 26th State of Stigma Report surveyed 2,000 Americans. And if it revealed that 85% of Americans believe getting support is wise,
Starting point is 00:32:08 yet 74% say society discourages people from doing so. Think about it. Most of us believe it's the right thing to do, but we still worry about what other people might think. Maybe the best way to change that is to make those conversations, a little bit more normal. BetterHelp supports fully licensed therapists in the U.S. and they handle the matching

Starting point is 00:32:45 That's BetterHELP.com slash dLB. So we are still talking about off campus. Ethan and I, we already finished that because I don't know how there's boys
Starting point is 00:33:03 after watching episode 3, the end, they could not watch episode 4. I binched. That happened to me, Rose, where I like last
Starting point is 00:33:12 like Friday or Saturday night or whatever, I watched episode 2 in the afternoon. Yeah. And then I went to watch episode 3 before bed and I watched episode 3. And then I watched,
Starting point is 00:33:21 I was like, wait, Juan, I have to watch episode four. So then I watched episode 4. And the way episode 4 ends. I'm like, I have to watch episode five now. And then I watched episode five. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:33:34 oh my God, I have to watch episode six. And then I watched episode six. And it was two 30 in the morning. And I'm like, I really need to go to bed. But let me just see the first like three minutes or so of episode seven. So that's what I did. But yeah, I, I finished show. It's awesome. We'll get to it eventually. But Rose, lead us off on episodes two and three. So we left them as the deal, right? And we start, like, we go there and Graham started being so cutie with Hannah. And that he's like taking the picture and giving him a kiss in the chick. And that's what led to one of the best scenes. Like, for me, it's one of the best scenes in the show, the first kiss that they had.
Starting point is 00:34:17 Roy, do you watch that scene? How about that scene? I'm just sitting here watching you two have a conversation about something I really don't want to talk about. Tell me, didn't you got excited in that scene? Like, the part where he's like, oh, yeah, you said no kissing. And then she grabs him and he's like, what's wrong, Graham? Didn't you say we need to practice? And then you said the great kiss?
Starting point is 00:34:40 This is the scene in the gym, right, Rose? Yeah, this was. This was. I think I have a picture there. And then she went and kissed his teammate. Oh. That was, that was, that was, that was ballsy. That was a ballsy play.
Starting point is 00:34:54 That was bossy. But let me tell you something. in the book, it happens, but she doesn't kiss Logan. She kisses Dean. And when I found out, she kisses Dean. I'm like, now I want that. Which one is Dean? Dean is the one with a blonde hair.
Starting point is 00:35:10 The one that hooks up with everybody? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, the one that's in a take J-Lo? Yeah, the Playboy, the Playboy guy. Yeah, okay, got you. In the show, they put him, and I'm like, I get why. But bro, it's so like, In the book, he gets so jealous and everything and Graham, I mean, this one just smiles.
Starting point is 00:35:32 I feel like he definitely got there was some hint. There was a hint of jealousy there, Rose. Oh, for sure, but I want to see more. Yeah, but I, I feel like you're setting it up, though. No, like, are they not setting it up for like that other teammate to maybe start developing feelings for the girls? So there's like going to be like a love triangle. You can kind of see, I think, where we're heading. And I don't, I don't like that storyline because I really like the idea of at this point.
Starting point is 00:35:55 I really like the idea of Garrett and Hannah, and I don't like the idea of somebody trying to get in there, which is obviously happening with the guitar player. What's his name? Justin, the guitar player. So I kind of like John Logan, I'm a little suspicious of John Logan. I don't really like what he's trying to do in terms of these feelings
Starting point is 00:36:15 that are kind of starting to develop for Hannah. Is that the nice teammate? That's the one with the hair and the big eyes. Kind of dreamy, I would say. Dreamy. Yeah, well, they set it up at the, the start of the show, they show us this great camaraderie between the teammates and how they all get along. And now they're about to throw a wrench into it all.
Starting point is 00:36:32 So, development. Yeah, yeah, and he's the best friend. Like, of course you need a little bit of drama there, but I just, I just think it was kind of also unnecessary. Because you need to keep watching. But for me, like, that I finished, I think it's very unnecessary. Like, it doesn't add me. It doesn't add really anything. Like, it kind of is just a storyline that's just kind of there.
Starting point is 00:36:55 and it never really gets developed. Wait, hold on. Don't take that yet, Jay. Stop spoiling shit for us, you guys. A lot going on back here. Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that that storyline kind of like develops and it's just like it's there
Starting point is 00:37:10 but it never really gets developed and I don't really understand why. You just went right back to doing what you apologize for. What? Stop spoiling shit. I'm not spoiling anything. I'm not saying you how they did,
Starting point is 00:37:19 what happens with this thing you're developing. You're telling you where it goes. It's just kind of, I don't know. Anyway, okay, hold on. The picture that, we just put up here and I want to put it up again. This scene rose where they're pretending to date in class
Starting point is 00:37:30 because the other guy in class if there's one scene where I like cringe the hardest and was the most like this is the most ridiculous show is when she knocks the water bottle over and it goes like tumbling down all over the stairs.
Starting point is 00:37:47 And the great line in this was he brings her a coffee right and the coffee has milk in it and she's like I'm lactose intolerant And he's like, just, you know, just pretend or whatever. And she's like, I can't pretend to not be lactose intolerant. That was a good play. That was what very cheeky play, Garrett at this point, playing exceptional role of fake boyfriend.
Starting point is 00:38:11 But you can already start to seeing develop. And once we get to the party, that's when it really starts to develop where you start seeing the fact that he's going to really start falling head over heels for this girl. And I love the scene at the party where. They go up to bed and they're arguing over who is going to sleep in the bed. Oh my God. And then they both and then it cuts to the scene and it's an empty bed and they're both on the sides of the bed. I thought that was really cute and really cheeky and I thought that was fun. It was a great way to end the episode because it leaves you like, okay.
Starting point is 00:38:45 Excuse me? So you put the next one. Right. Because the start, the end of that episode is they fall asleep. Yeah. And he goes back to sleep, right? Like he leaves her on the bed. he goes back onto the floor and goes to sleep.
Starting point is 00:38:57 Yeah. On the next episode. Yeah, that was sweet. When they fall asleep together, like watching whatever YouTube videos, that's when you card into start to see them, like, you start to feel like, okay, there's something that's developing here. But, Rose, can we talk about the alley and, uh, the J-Lo and Maverick? Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:39:16 This is the clip that's gone the most viral from the show, you would say, right, Rose? The J-Lo and Maverick dance. Yeah, there's a picture of it in here. There's a photo there that, uh, you see him. You can take it, Jay. Look at that, bro. Yeah, take it, Jay. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Take it. I wanted to put that scene, but because we're going to get flagged. I didn't not put it. But it's so, like, once you start hearing J-Lo and the song, and then she starts dancing, and then he gets in. And I'm like, oh. That's some instant chemistry there. Dave, did you see some instant sparks flying there when you watched the show?
Starting point is 00:39:47 I thought that her boyfriend was going to walk in in the middle of all that. I would have a lot. I would have to get his Dunkin' Donuts cut from his car. No, they can't do that because season two is. going to be them. What a dork that guy. Wait, Rose, that's a spoiler. You guys are really bad at this. That's a spoiler. Really bad at this.
Starting point is 00:40:01 Okay. My opinion of the show has not changed. It's just not for me. All right. It's bad. Specifically, the hockey action, because the opponents against Breyer, or whatever in the neighborhood of colleges,
Starting point is 00:40:16 they were chasing the puck. What do you do, chase the puck? No, they were legitimately chasing the puck. They were playing zone. They weren't being patient. they were just busy chasing everything and they look terrible. Roy, I have a question for you. Did you expect to watch this show and see like high level
Starting point is 00:40:32 hockey? Like zone defense, like a Rod Brindamore system out there? I expect that somebody to look like they knew what they were doing and none of them looked like they knew what they were doing. It's pretty, I will say it's pretty impressive the way they do these hockey shows because is it? Because it's not in this one.
Starting point is 00:40:48 Because I wouldn't have been able to tell that Ben, what's his name, Rose? Benmont the actor. Oh, no, Belmont Camelli. Belmont Camelli, thank you. Had never, like, skated hockey skates before that. And then, like, he's there.
Starting point is 00:41:04 I can't even skate backwards. I've been on, I've been on skate. No, they're actually out there skating. Like, they're doing the skating. They're doing the hockey scenes. And I've skated a lot in my life ice skates. I cannot skate backwards. So the fact that they looked like,
Starting point is 00:41:19 there were some of the guys, like, I think the guy who plays Dean is, like, played hockey growing up. Like he really knows how to play hockey. He knows a lot about hockey. But to be able to skate like that in just a short amount of time is really, really impressive. Another fun fact. The fiancé of Dean, she read the books.
Starting point is 00:41:35 And she was like, hey, you are Dean. You have to audition. He got apart because the wife to be wanted him to be there. So the wife to be said, hey, you are this playboy. No, but screwing everybody. Go audition for this. That's a great point. That's a great point.
Starting point is 00:41:53 But yeah, that's a story. That's a cute, beautiful. And let me just ask about something else. As I watch this show, they're very accepting about the open promiscuity of all these characters. Wait. Wait. Wait. It's a romance show.
Starting point is 00:42:10 Wait, wait. No, no, no. But there's no. It's not the romance. They're all hooking up with each other. She's mad about him and he's going down on another girl, but then they're making up in the street. And then like the couple. and she's with the other guy and it's all fine.
Starting point is 00:42:25 Don't go to the final end because I'm going to pick it up there. This is college. That's college. That's college, man. That's what happens. No, I thought it was bad. There's groups intermix and there's a lot of overlapping when you're in a tight-knit group like that. Yeah, there's a lot of that when you go to college.
Starting point is 00:42:41 A lot of sloppy seconds. The beginning of episode two, they tried to use hockey terms as metaphors for pulling off the planet. It just sounded forced me. It didn't sound. God, I didn't even know. notice that. I didn't like that either. You're chasing the puck.
Starting point is 00:42:57 You got to sit back in your heels and she's just like, what the? Are you talking about, dude? You got to trust the player. Do you trust me? That's so sexy. Look at the puck. Look at the player. Look at the puck.
Starting point is 00:43:08 What puck? What are you talking about? Who's the puck? The puck is Justin and Graham is the player. So she has to watch the player because she has a player in front. I did laugh. I think it was the start of episode. You did?
Starting point is 00:43:23 Was that the first time? It was not at the show. It was at the advertising at the beginning of episode three because it was for Tinder. Was it? Yeah, there was a little bit of Tinder. That's true. There was like some swiping left and right. I just saw Nike Pro.
Starting point is 00:43:37 But I put a picture 2.15 that I sent you there. 2.15. Is it the can you, Rose? No, it is the one with Justin, but it's, uh, she's inventing like, uh, she's, She's dreaming at 2.15 is her. She's not dreaming is she rose? No. She's not asleep is she rose?
Starting point is 00:44:01 No, she's not asleep. No, she's very much awake in those moments. Daydreaming while doing something else. No, she's not daydreaming really. Why doing something else. It's like she's sleeping because she wakes up. And whenever he has the you can, can you? Like, I did not understand that part and it helped me so much that they put that part.
Starting point is 00:44:20 Because then we get to the scene where, yeah, that was, he's like, can you? I'm like, can you what? Because I didn't understand yet her problem. Yeah, that was not a phone going off, by the way. A phone? Roy, excuse me. They showed what it was. Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:44:40 She had in her hands. They showed what it was. What was it? Propol or was it pink? I will say, beyond the, like, beyond the, like, if you want to actually dive into, like, the mental. thing that's going on here with her, I thought it was interesting in terms of just like the
Starting point is 00:44:55 the, the, you can tell that it's coming from the hurdle that she has to get over, right? In order to do this and why she feels she has to do this and, you know, obviously, eventually you'll learn why and what happened and everything. Oh, they know, but. I assumed it in episode one
Starting point is 00:45:12 when the guy passed by her. Give me the second to last picture. No, the, sorry, the one that says idea, 22. Got it. Yeah. There she is in the hockey jersey. By the way, I want one of these jerseys.
Starting point is 00:45:25 Their jerseys are cool. I would wear one of these briars. Especially the blue one, I would wear one. With Graham in the back. But Ethan, in that picture, when I saw her and I saw her face, I was like, oh, no. She's just realizing he likes him. And this is going to become another show for me. When I figure out what it was, what really was, I was like, oh no, you didn't.
Starting point is 00:45:55 Yeah. Yeah, I, I agree, Rosie. I thought in that moment, too, she was like, oh, I really like him. And then she's like, oh, no, he has to make me do this in order to be able to do this with somebody else. And I was like, oh, that's kind of a wrench in the whole proceedings here, especially because at this point, I'm already all in on just forget about Justin and just go with Garrett already. I was like, no, this is too fast. And when I saw her face, I'm like, okay, now she realizes he likes him. So Justin is going to be out of the picture.
Starting point is 00:46:24 I'm like, no, that's too fast. It's just episode number three. And then when you realize, like, oh, the face was, oh, I'm having an idea and I need to ask a friend. I'm like, no, you did. And it actually happens in the books. I thought it was just Amazon Prime trying to put things there to make people watch because I don't know why people love that. but, man, that scene, I was like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:52 No. This guy is really trying to get her to drink because in episode three while they were at the bar, she actually had the drink, right? Yeah, but it's actually a comfort thing, and we can take this picture of the peanut coladas here. Oh, hold on, hold on, because she had to try out some mixed drinks here. At first she tried out the dry martini. She spat that out. She tried the blue thing, right? Like the blue concoction?
Starting point is 00:47:15 No, no, no. Oh, it was before that. No, no, no. She tried an old-fashioned. She gave, like, a cell of facing. I don't know. And listen, I do that, too. And then the peanut colada comes, and then she has three of them.
Starting point is 00:47:27 Four. Four. Oh, she had a fourth one. Yeah, she had four of them. Well, yeah, she had a fourth one that's in her hand right now, actually, on the right side of that picture. I will say, Roy, the feeling that I gathered from that is not him trying to get her to drink. It's him trying to get her to open up to him and be more comfortable with him and let her know that, hey you can trust me you're safe with me you will know kind of he did give her an IPA
Starting point is 00:47:50 he gave her an IPA yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah and um and also I want to bring up this because we were talking with Roy I I think the character of Jules they did this to me again she doesn't exist in the books and it's just so unnecessary and they did this to me in the summer art some pretty when they put sky it's just we don't need her yeah she's just kind of there to keep the story moving and to kind of like yeah she narrates the story moving yeah she narrates the hockey games. Like, she's just kind of... Well, she's validating their fake relationship.
Starting point is 00:48:20 Yeah, but it's her. It can be just the fifth line. You don't need her. In the book, it's the fifth line. Well, specifically, did not need her to narrate the hockey game. Exactly. You, like, it's just the extra that Amazon always loves to put in. They always do that.
Starting point is 00:48:35 And I'm like, you give them too much screen time. Some breaking news out of Colorado. Killer Car is not playing in game two. That's it. That's hard to say. So for here to wrap here. the last picture is the last, not the last, but the second to last,
Starting point is 00:48:50 the episode three. Oh, you kept the caption in this. Oh, yeah. It ended with her asking Graham for an orgasm and I don't know how. That was a shocker. That was a shocker, Roy. Really?
Starting point is 00:49:03 I was very, when she said that, I was like, oh, okay. The name of the episode was called the orgasm. Yeah, I know. His reaction was great too. I just put next. And when she was saying, I thought she was going to be like, hey, I like you. Hey, I need you.
Starting point is 00:49:20 Give me an argument. I'm sorry. A lot of pressure, no. A lot of pressure. He's got a deal. She's got her own deal, apparently. I mean, that's what also confuses me. Because, like, apparently, is this, like, a longstanding issue?
Starting point is 00:49:33 Because clearly she's, like, comfortable with her body. She's got a sex place. You got to watch episode four. You got to watch episode four. You got to watch episode four. You don't really. Okay. Yes, you do.
Starting point is 00:49:40 It's good. So we have to watch another two before next week? I say. of them if you want. I don't want to do. That's not possible. On the Kail Makar subject, Roy, if the Aves lose tonight with Kail Makar,
Starting point is 00:49:52 they are in deep, deep, deep, do-do. Without. Without. Without. Without. Thank you. They are in deep, deep, do-do because it doesn't look like he's... Yeah, you're going to say that twice? You're going to say that twice?
Starting point is 00:50:02 Yeah, I just wanted to say. It doesn't look like he's going to be playing anytime soon necessarily. So they better win tonight. This feels, it's late early if you're Colorado going back to Vegas. Dave, what do the avalanche? do without
Starting point is 00:50:15 Kail McCar? How can they adjust to that? Do the same thing they did in game one. They were fine in game one. As long as they can get pucks on net capitalizing their chances, they'll be okay. Like, Colorado is a deep enough team that they can survive without Kail Makar.
Starting point is 00:50:29 Like, they don't want to, obviously. But just because one of their best players is out of the lineup, they're not going to pack it in and go home. And I don't think they should. I don't think that they're going to struggle a lot without Kail Makar. I just because I think they're a very good team.
Starting point is 00:50:42 So we'll see how it plays out. Thank you to everybody. watch game one of the Western Conference Final with us. You saw that the ambulance lost of Vegas. So that was great that you guys joined us. We will do this again next week on Wednesday as the Hockey Show will watch game four of the Eastern Conference Final between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Montreal Canadiens. At Bell Center.
Starting point is 00:51:09 Leisure de Glory. That's next week, Wednesday, May 27. Please remember to subscribe to the Hockey Show YouTube page at the Hockey Show DLS on TikTok at the Hockey Show 7 and on X Instagram and threads at Hockey Show DLS. For Jason, for Ethan, for Rosie, and for Dave playing hurt. My name is Roy Bellamy. We will see you on Wednesday. Going for two when you're up by five. Switching the zone when man isn't working.
Starting point is 00:51:40 Oh, and building your new stadium in the state your team. actually plays in. In sports, some things just make sense. You know what else makes sense? Drinking Yeagermeister shots. Ice cold. Drinking it any other way would be like, punting on first down,
Starting point is 00:51:56 or letting your worst hitter bat first, or like going for two when you're down three with a second to go. It wouldn't make any sense. So don't let the team down. When it comes to Yeagermeister, drink it cold or don't drink it at all! Yagermeister, damn, that's cold. Drink responsibly.
Starting point is 00:52:13 Yeagermeister liqueur, 35% alcohol by volume, imported by Master Yeagermeister U.S., White Plains, New York. Tony, you know that moment at a party or a tailgate where everything just sort of clicks. I know it well. It's usually when I show up. Everybody goes crazy. Yeah, you usually take all the credit for it, but it's because Tony usually walks in with Quervo. Walking like this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Quervo is a thing that turns hanging out into this is the night. It has that effect on people. It does. You usually take the credit for it. But again, it's the Quervo. effect. It's like that moment in a big game where everyone in the crowd just starts standing up, hooting and hollering. Keep it quervo. Keep it quervo, baby.
