The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz - Big Suey: RIP to Vidal Brujan's ERA

Episode Date: September 20, 2024

We continue our Jim Abbott discussion from yesterday after we totally forgot to wish him a happy birthday. Chris Cote is not super sure that Skip Schumaker actually respects the game after the way he ...let a position player pitch to Shohei and the Marlins are getting hot! Then, we discuss the weird interaction between Aaron Rodgers and Robert Saleh and go to the Bucket of Death. Plus, Mike Ryan touches on numerous topics about college football including Tennessee's "talent fee", FSU's situation with the ACC, Miami facing its "toughest challenge" so far this season at USF and Florida's dumpster fire. The show wraps up with a discussion about Greg Cote's 70th birthday party Saturday, why Dan is worried about Amin, Roy's love of an open bar and Taylor being a rain cloud. Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to DraftKings Network. How do stop losses work on Kraken? Let's say I have a birthday party on Wednesday night, but an important meeting Thursday morning. So sensible me pre-books a taxi for 10 p.m. with alerts. Voila! I won't be getting carried away and staying out till 2. That's stop loss orders on Kraken, an easy way to plan ahead. Go to kraken.com and see what crypto can be. Now's a good time to remember where the story of tequila started. In 1795, the first tequila distillery was opened by the Cuervo family.
Starting point is 00:00:49 And 229 years later, Cuervo is still going strong. Family owned from the start, same family, same land. Now's a good time to enjoy Cuervo, the tequila that invented tequila. Go to Cuervo.com to shop tequila or visit a store near you. Cuervo, now's a good time. Trademarks owned by Becle, S-A-B-D-C-V, copyright 2024, Proximo. Jersey City, New Jersey, please drink responsibly.
Starting point is 00:01:15 Welcome to the Big Sui, presented by DraftKings. Why are you listening to this show? The podcast that seems very similar to the other Dan LeBattard podcast. I'm sorry, I'm not gonna apologize for that. In fact, the only difference seems to be this show. The podcast that seems very similar to the other Dan LeBattard podcast. I'm sorry, I'm not going to apologize for that. In fact, the only difference seems to be this imaging. I have been tempted in restaurants just walking past tables to grab somebody's fries if they're just there.
Starting point is 00:01:36 That hasn't happened to you guys? I've done it. And now here's the marching man to nowhere, fat face and the habitual liar. Man to Nowhere, Fat Face, and The Habitual Liar. The conversation I was having with Mike Schur offline, and I was asking this as a serious question, because he was saying there have been ambidextrous pictures before, and I was legitimately asking him, without any degree of irony,
Starting point is 00:01:59 can you be ambidextrous if you don't have a hand? I wasn't even making- Oh, Dan. No, I was asking the question- When did you lose a hand? I wasn't even making... Oh, Dan. No, I was asking the question... When did you lose the hand? I was asking the question seriously. Put it on the poll, please, at LeBotard Show. Can you be ambidextrous if you don't have one of your hands? I'm still asking the question
Starting point is 00:02:18 seriously just like I'm asking the question seriously all night last night because I don't want to be offensive to people. I'm asking Jeremy the question is there a better word that we can use than nub for describing the arm of Jim Abbott and one of the things that Jeremy said is that that was the proper term that that he talked to people in the medical community and there there is that he just received a text from a friend in the medical field who said you can also say residual limb, but... That's the safest way, but Nub is safe though.
Starting point is 00:02:54 But people don't know what you're talking about if you say residual limb? Residual limb? That's why we went with Nub. I've never heard residual limb. What was this night of yours, watching the Rays and talking to Jeremy about the proper way of describing Jim Abbott's residual limb. What was this night of yours watching the raise and talking to Jeremy about the proper way of describing Jim Abbott's residual limb?
Starting point is 00:03:09 Terrible night. I mean there have been other pitchers who've pitched with deformities and disfigurements. I mean Monokai Brown. I mean they call him three fingers for a reason. That is correct. Tony Alfonsoca. But nobody, that's six fingers. It's an advantage. No? That's one of the things we were discussing yesterday, and I don't think we put it up as a poll question that whether or not in certain instances, these things are an advantage. The sixth finger for Alfonseca, he also had six toes.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Those were not things that gave him any kind of advantage. The six toe is absolutely an advantage. Helps you dig in more. It doesn't. It probably gave him an extra couple on the page. It doesn't, but it's like the extra appendage on the hand. It wasn't a useful appendage. It wasn't something that you could get any strength from.
Starting point is 00:03:53 It was just dangling. It was a burden. How did this come about? I don't remember, but I will tell the Alfonseca story that I told a long time ago, which is Alfonseca bought a new house in Miramar, and me and Jim Leland asked him how many rooms it had, and he held up one hand. What a flex.
Starting point is 00:04:14 We got to Jim Abbott just talking about how impressive Shohei was, and we got to Ambidextre, so I don't know, that's how we got there. It was six rooms in the house. It wasn't five, it was six. That's incredible. It is, five. It was six. That's incredible It is it's a good it's a it's incredible for a lot of different when people don't give them six Give me six do we think 60 60s possible? No, why not?
Starting point is 00:04:36 I mean you could do it by the end of the weekend this case hitting off of against second baseman Why are you caught up on that? That was a 51st home run, that wasn't even the one that broke the record. Just the idea of Skip Schumacher, you know, on his high horse about, I respect the game. I want him to face the best competition. We're gonna go after him.
Starting point is 00:04:54 And then we're gonna go after him with a second baseman. Because we respect the game so much. Save the bullpen. I respect the game in the sixth inning, but when we get to the eighth inning, I no longer respect the game. How dare you, number one, that is the defending and possibly back-to-back manager of the year
Starting point is 00:05:08 we're speaking of at the moment. And number two, you need to save those arms because we have a big series against the Braves coming up. Exactly. There is nothing, there is nothing. I was tied down so I couldn't stand again, so I can't really stand up. Why are you tied down now?
Starting point is 00:05:24 Because I was told I was standing too much before. Yes, I asked someone to tie you down. There is nothing that I would enjoy more on the baseball diamond, besides obviously what happened yesterday. Than a football game. Incredible. Than hitting off of a position player.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Than eliminating the Braves from playoff contention. Oh, how I would love that. Oh, how I would love to deny the Braves from playoff contention. Oh, how I would love that. Oh, how I would love to deny the Braves a ticket to October. I dare them to come down here. I dare them. They are going to come down here. We'll see. It's on the schedule. They haven't played yet.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Well, we'll see if they make it. I dare them to show their faces here because the Marlins are hot right now. They lost 20 to four yesterday. Yeah, but the vibes are great around the park. And they won that first game by like 11 to nine. Remember that game? That was a good game too.
Starting point is 00:06:11 It was a great game. Oh God, not as good. I just, I'm trying to get inside. Try standing. I'm trying to get inside your head. I don't understand why you prioritize the race game yesterday. It just doesn't make sense to me.
Starting point is 00:06:22 I can watch multiple things at the same time and the only thing to tune into in the Marlins game was the Otani game yesterday. It just doesn't make sense to me. I can watch multiple things at the same time and the only thing to tune into in the Marlins game was the Otani at bats. There was nothing else to watch there. And they were cutting into them in the Rays game. Really, really? Yes. That shouldn't be allowed.
Starting point is 00:06:35 I don't like that. Well, they weren't cutting in. They were cutting in with the information to tell me to go to the Marlins game by saying what is. Did they really say, hey, go watch the Marlins game? By saying what was going on in the Marlins game, yes. The vibes were great around the ballpark. They were yesterday.
Starting point is 00:06:49 It was a festive environment. For Dodges fans, sure. Nah, everyone was happy to be there yesterday. I'm sorry. Marlins fans were not there. They weren't there to see the Marlins strike out O'Tonny Roy. Why are you guys so miserable?
Starting point is 00:07:02 Why can't we just enjoy nice things? Like, what is this? I'm just laughing at that energy I'm just laughing. We got a Vidal Brujjan. You've made that point. We got it. Oh my god. Oh the position player I hate to tell you position players pitch all the time now. I will say this it was a bad night for Vidal Brujjan's ERA It jumped into the 45s. I bet on the pole. Was it a bad night for Vidal Brujjan's ERA? It's not his first appearance of the season. No, second game. I've never seen someone so happy after a team lost this badly.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Skyrocketed. We also saw the rare, and Chris I don't know if you're watching at this point, we saw the rare time where Skip, maybe manager of the year, came out and said, you know what Vidal, enough's enough, we need to get out of this. Let's bring in our third string catcher. No, what they did is they literally just switched positions on the field. They brought over the second baseman and then he was pitching
Starting point is 00:07:50 and then Vidal went to play second base. They didn't even have anyone warming up. They just switched position players. Yeah, yeah. He respects the game though. And Shohei was two batters away from getting another round of bat that day. I'm coming around to Chris right now.
Starting point is 00:08:03 How do you sit in your leg afterwards? You're like, we pitched to him. You know why? Where's the camera? We respect the game. We respect the game. We put a pitcher at second base. Maybe he's a second baseman by a trait.
Starting point is 00:08:15 I don't understand. This is the first. You know what? Just don't get on your high horse about respecting the game is all. He did respect the game. You're out of the playoff hunt, so you didn't care that you threw him.
Starting point is 00:08:24 You grooved him. You Chan-ho parked it. That was how dare you. He hits the ball so far. He does whatever he wants with that baseball. I was getting annoyed with him. Once he hit the wall, the first time I think I told you guys already,
Starting point is 00:08:38 I was like, okay, well, that's it, I missed it. He's not gonna hit two more home runs today. Like that was a shot. He needed to hit one that 10 feet over to the right and it would have cleared the fence and that would have been one of the two because he's not gonna hit two other home runs today. Like that was the shot at doing it.
Starting point is 00:08:51 He does whatever he wants on the baseball field. Like after he got that one and then after he got his second, when he got his single I was annoyed because I'm like, he's just going for line drives. Like what is this? Like come on man, like let's swing for the fences. That's why everyone's here.
Starting point is 00:09:04 And then once he got his stolen base and once they were up like 10, he's like, you know what? I, come on, man. Like, let's swing for the fences. That's why everyone's here. And then once he got his stolen base, and once they were up like 10, he's like, you know what, I'm gonna hit home runs now. Does whatever he wants, and the swing looks the same every time, and it looks so effortless. It is total lunacy. I will say to you that one of the greatest changes
Starting point is 00:09:19 I have seen in baseball is that everyone can go opposite field, but I'm still not used to seeing lefties go opposite field in that park to left field and left center when they're not totally catching the ball correctly and he's still hitting it out because his normal fly balls, he's too strong. And so he hits breaking pitches off of left-handed pitchers,
Starting point is 00:09:42 real pitchers, not second baseman who are throwing 95 miles an hour, he goes opposite field on it. But Billy, can you explain to me the value in this? I have told you before it is one of my common vanity laments is I simply can't go anywhere, drive anywhere, walk anywhere, where I'm not seeing in my peripheral vision somewhere, someone taking a picture of themselves, a selfie, someone doing something nearby instead of living life, recording the living of life. And we've been playing again and again your exclusive footage from your phone. What value do you think that this has of you showing the home run on your phone? You have 40 seconds
Starting point is 00:10:27 of footage on your phone. How many of these do you have that you did not use because they did not result in a home run? We have exclusive video footage of you seeing one of the home runs on your phone. This is Billy the cameraman recording this. What is the value of this and how much footage do you have on your phone that's not as good as this? Well, first and foremost, I don't see a credit on that video to me and I didn't consent to that video being used.
Starting point is 00:10:53 So an email will be sent later today and you know, these videos aren't for free. What do we think? There's gonna be a fee attached to that. You guys insane? What do we think? I will say this. Co-founder asking you openly,
Starting point is 00:11:04 how much do you think this costs as he airs it without your permission? No consent there. On the record, consent was not given. No consent was given there. This will be played in court. So where is that? Can you find for me?
Starting point is 00:11:16 The fact that people decided to make this moment about them and take selfies just to show that they were there, despicable. I didn't like it at all. I didn't like that everyone was trying to make this moment about them and document that they were there and pull up the, how about you just enjoy the moment? How about you just watch it and enjoy the moment?
Starting point is 00:11:32 Which by the way is what I was doing beforehand and I have like three videos before because he did it like on the third pitch so then you have like the useless video where it's like, okay, ball one and it's like, well now I need to, but I'm afraid I'm gonna delete the wrong one so for like, for the rest of my life, I'm gonna have pitch one and two of that about
Starting point is 00:11:47 as separate videos, like separate eight second videos. I'm gonna be like, what is this? Just Cougs whispering underneath it. Telling a story about his grandmother and his dad and their inside jokes, and like, buddy, I don't care about this right now. I don't care about your family's IJs, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:12:01 Here's the thing. I hope Ohtani gets his sentence pitch. I wasn't going to record the moment I was just gonna live in the moment and Then I thought and I don't want to spoiler alert here and I'm gonna put pressure on myself that I don't want I thought If I do another get ready with me video It'll be really funny just throw this home run in the middle of that video when I'm picking a fantasy baseball team So I did it just for that and just so happened to catch the moment
Starting point is 00:12:24 But it was more for a joke is just so happened to catch the moment. But it was more for a joke. Is that video though, the correct video? Does that video, is that the 50th home run, not the 51st home run? Yeah, that's the 50th home run, yeah. I didn't care about the 51st at that point in time. Okay, so.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Neither did Skip. You have a video that you believe that has some worth to it because. I mean, it's being played all over national podcasts that are being broadcast on YouTube. So it's worth something to someone. This is part of the thing that I don't know. Since my childhood, the one thing that I have heard
Starting point is 00:12:59 in baseball games that is the most consistent thing, and it was baseball that did this first, did it before football or anywhere else. Baseball was aggressive about having the wording, Roy, please find this for me and text it to me as soon as you can get it. Having the wording that tells you, you do not have the rights to play our video or audio
Starting point is 00:13:22 unless we give you the expressed written consent to play that. But I'm assuming that that is different if you're at the game and just filming it yourself. The wording is any rebroadcast, reproduction or other use of the pictures and accounts of this game without the expressed written consent of Major League Baseball is strictly prohibited. Is it allowed if you've bought a $27 ticket? I know F1, Mike.
Starting point is 00:13:48 And a $34 fake ticket. Well, real ticket, but wasn't your seat. F1 is aggressive about you cannot film stuff and then put it wherever you want at our venues. Are we allowed to do what we just did from Billy's phone without giving him? You didn't get his? I didn't give you permission.
Starting point is 00:14:06 I don't even know how you got the video, to be perfectly honest. He has grounds to sue this company. Track this phone, it seems like it's being tracked. Usually putting credit up there is what saves you. So we've opened up a whole can of worms here. Okay, that's unfortunate. Let me gather myself and speak to lawyers
Starting point is 00:14:21 during the break. In the interim, Mike and Chris, can you filibuster with two minutes on Robert Sala and Aaron Rodgers aggressively touching each other? I mean, the internet is just so sure that this was a negative from Aaron Rodgers. And to me, this was a couple bros.
Starting point is 00:14:38 This was just a bro moment. This is all positive here. I didn't see a single negative thing from this interaction, Mike. Well, if you don't have the sound attached and you're not good at lip reading, it does look bad, especially the glare that Aaron Rodgers gives at the end. And Aaron Rodgers is quite peculiar.
Starting point is 00:14:54 So you saw this happening, and it just defies logic that Aaron Rodgers in that moment would be upset. So I already knew that, I already know like the next Pat Mack if he hit is gonna be like Aaron Rodgers being pissed off that everyone took this video out of context. When what's to blame here is just bad body language. But Aaron Rodgers was asked about it after the game. Aaron Rodgers mentioned that hey Robert Salah is not big on hugging he's always big on pushing the chest. I was surprised he came at me with a hug. I pushed him in the chest. Now Robert is also always talking about two score leads. And
Starting point is 00:15:29 if you read Aaron Rodgers lips there and what Aaron Rodgers said in the post game presser is what I'm telling him is boom, two score lead in that moment. It all checks out. It's just the optics are strange. This is supposed to be a happy time. Why are you pushing your happy coach away and looking unhappy? But he was just being intense and happy that the offense executed and it's a big nothing burger. There's a second angle of it where you see him right after hug a player. So it's just, I'm with Mike. I don't think there's anything here, but it's just, it's just funny in this one angle where the next player he sees, he gives a hug. It is a certainty that this is going to be probably the most fascinating team in the
Starting point is 00:16:09 NFL, and everything is going to be blown out of proportion. I find it funny that when they have their best performance of the season, we've already started doing that. It's probably not going to be pretty when he's actually surly on the sidelines, which he gets a lot of crap for, because it's true. Aaron Rodgers can be surly on the sidelines. which he gets a lot of crap for, because it's true. Aaron Rodgers can be surly on the sidelines. Give me the start of the day music, please. Start of the day, start of the day,
Starting point is 00:16:32 it is the start of the day. Start of the day, start of the day, it is the start of the day. Start of the day, start of the day, it is the start of the day. Start of the day, start of the day it is the start of the day start of the day start of the day it is the start of the day I will say again that we are living in a time of really majestic mastery of sports, of athletics
Starting point is 00:17:09 by greatest you've ever seen, and Aaron Rodgers to me fits in that category. This stat on Aaron Rodgers to me was a mind blower. That touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson last night was the 480th touchdown pass of Aaron Rodgers' career, and the very first thrown to a wide receiver drafted in the first round. Starting point is 00:18:16 That was a long story. Yeah. It's the only kind he tells. It's the short one for me. I tried to speed it up for you guys. You forgot about the league's cup. Stugats. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:24 La Carrera is a place where the best of the celebrations has to be the 97 Marlins celebration because it was Levante. Well, when Fidel died the first time. This is the Don Leventhal Show with the Stugats! We're going to go to the bucket of death in a second, unfortunately, reluctantly. We don't like this thing, but it's back. And Mike Ryan was trying to avoid it. We'd been doing it on Thursdays But we're gonna start moving it around because people are trying to get out of being around the bucket of death And I think Mike is surprised that the bucket of death is now appearing on a Friday
Starting point is 00:19:14 But I think going forward we're not gonna know what day it appears It might be a Monday on Tuesday. You guys are trying to avoid it I think it's important to do on Thursdays so that everybody knows for sure. One of the most important things in this industry, and I'm sure we'll get to it on the oral history, is having these segments when people know where they are, these tent bowls, right? Not gonna get to it in the oral history.
Starting point is 00:19:36 So everybody knows on Thursday, this is here. That's not what the oral history's about. Yeah, it's just a little BTS on how the radio industry works. So you say, you know what? Everybody knows this is gonna be Thursdays. Sometimes Billy won't be there, but every Thursday we're gonna do the bucket of death.
Starting point is 00:19:50 You don't work on Thursdays. Oh, I work. And I'm tired of you influencing. Trust me, trust me. You don't work here. You don't work here. Trust me. He works for this company that he now partially owns.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Well, as you use this video without a concept. Even off hours I'm doing things that are just against my consent being used here. That's Fred. Oh, yeah. Yeah, so about that, we were negotiating during the break. It was some strong arming and it involved lawyers. But Billy has now conceded to offer us some of the video
Starting point is 00:20:18 from his phone. It's not any of the historic video. It's just the shitty video that he's given the company of just random balls being thrown to Otani that he's not swinging at so we'll just play those it's all we've been able to get from Billy during the break I want to ask you guys a couple of sports questions one put this on the pole please Juju at LeBittard show does it seem right to you that Brooklyn is retiring Vince Carter's number, but Toronto hasn't
Starting point is 00:20:46 at LeBotard show. And also, and this isn't for the poll, but I want to ask you guys, because we live in a time of cruelty and because we often treat our sports figures as if they're not human. Dan Campbell is selling his house because he says he's got a privacy issue that people have figured out where he lives after losses. And Will Levis has changed his telephone number because he says some people got it and when he loses, they inundate his phone with messages because the more anonymous that you can be on the internet, the more cruel you can be via text because you think you
Starting point is 00:21:25 have some sort of rights to these people. How do you guys absorb a season of expectations in Detroit that now has Dan Campbell having to move because people know where he lives and he doesn't like that after losses and will Levis having to change his phone number because Titans fans are just sharing their opinions directly with him because social media gives them some access so they think Will Levis having to change his phone number because Titans fans are just sharing their opinions directly with him because social media gives them some access so they think they deserve all access. I feel for Dan Campbell, Will Levis,
Starting point is 00:21:52 if you're gonna toss the ball to the other team the way you did those first two games, you deserve the texts. No. No. No. I mean, those are bad, I just asked his coach, those are bad turnovers.
Starting point is 00:22:02 That's a bad take. Bad turnovers. Do you think it was just people on the staff that were texting him? Speaking of mayonnaise, Dale Jr. returns in the Hellman's 88 tonight. Xfinity Series race, as you know, Dale Jr. retired, but he's under the lights at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Starting point is 00:22:17 Xfinity Series, Hellman's 88, the CW. What more could you want? Well, thank you for offering that, because while I understand why it is you want to take a detour toward cars, I want to take a detour toward an area of expertise that I believe that we are not accenting enough around here. I really do believe that you are a genuine college football insider and I also believe that the University of Miami has legitimately
Starting point is 00:22:44 bought its way into the game with its quarterback who is now a Heisman favorite so what I want to ask you about if you can consolidate all of these thoughts I would appreciate it. I want to ask you about these this assortment of things Tennessee gouging its fans in order to get More money for its athletes by adding a 10% surcharge to its tickets in a stadium that always has a hundred thousand people in it. FSU's fight against the ACC and the University of Miami's game this weekend which Mario Cristobal has said is the toughest test of the season an obvious slight at the
Starting point is 00:23:21 University of Florida. Billy Napier is in trouble at Florida his buyout is mid 20 millions Norvel's buyout at FSU is mid 60 million and people are noticing and reporting on these things Because they believe both men to be in trouble I don't believe that Norvel can be in trouble for games after being 13 and oh But the stakes have raised in Florida, which is a football state. I saw Norvell, FSU has announced a board expansion. They're going after a guy that's committed to bossing college. So a board expansion is a nice way to say we have to move down our recruiting board because people don't want to go to us, but he is hell-bent on proving to people that he can recruit high schoolers.
Starting point is 00:24:01 Norvell isn't going anywhere. I do believe Norvell to be a good coach, but it's going to take some time to turn that year around. You gave me three things to chew on. Which one do you want first? Well, we've talked some about the Tennessee thing, so let's talk about FSU and what's happening with the ACC. I do have a brief thing on the Tennessee thing. Then why'd you ask me?
Starting point is 00:24:19 Well, because you were, well, why'd you ask me if you told me that you didn't want my answer on it? That you wanted to talk about it? You asked me first. I threw the ball to you, and then you asked me, how do you want me to dribble it? Then I told you how I wanted you to dribble, and you said, but I'm gonna dribble it my way first.
Starting point is 00:24:33 You gave me a list of things you wanted me to talk about, and then you said, actually, we already talked about that when you don't want to talk about that. Tennessee thing, the administrator over there, the AD, makes like two and a half million dollars a year. You notice that the administrators in all these talks aren't actually taking pay cuts. Administrators and coaches, that's not on the option.
Starting point is 00:24:51 And the 10% tax, talent fee tax, well, innovative and you can get that fan base to do anything right now because they're super happy. Who was paying for it before? You're just taxing the people that you're getting the revenue from anyways. Because even indirectly, your TV revenue comes from that fan base. So it's weird, like we're going to tax you and oh yeah, no, this is a good idea, I finally get to step up to the plate and help. That's where all the money comes from anyways.
Starting point is 00:25:17 But can't you do that when you're Apple? When you're Apple in your region, can't you just raise prices on people because the addiction is such that or one thing is the administrators? Can take a pay cut but that is never on the table It always just gets passed down to the consumer and this isn't just a college football thing This is a fact of life and in every facet, but no it's kind of bullshit There is an issue with college athletics and the NCAA is probably gonna get phased out the injustice of the student labor Getting paid that has been addressed is probably gonna get phased out. The injustice of the student labor getting paid, that has been addressed.
Starting point is 00:25:47 But the injustice of the people that are making all the revenue and not actually paying the student labor, that hasn't been. It's just passed down to the boosters and everybody else. These people gotta give up money and they've spent $250 million in the courts, losing it hand over fist,
Starting point is 00:26:02 losing every single court case. I read an article that if there were a CEO in charge of a company that spent this amount of money to lose this often in court, they would have been fired a long time ago. NCAA clock is ticking. FSU, hugely embarrassing season. Them and Clemson try to rattle cages. And people aren't going to want to hear this because it's a huge optic cell. Everyone's laughing at FSU. But it does seem like the revenue structure in the ACC is going to change. So as much as they put themselves out there,
Starting point is 00:26:35 as much money as they burn trying to do this, and as little revenue as they're going to get because this revenue structure is supposed to reward the good football teams. They are no longer one of the good football teams in their conference. They did bring about change, it appears, in the ACC. USF, I do agree, it is the toughest test for Miami so far this season. Let's talk about Cam Ward being a Heisman favorite
Starting point is 00:26:58 after three games and all the records Miami has broken against teams that aren't very good and we know they're not very good and the tests will be against Louisville and when I was discussing earlier this week because UCF won in the last 30 seconds of the game and I was asking is UCF the second best team in the state you were arguing that South Florida might have a bone to pick based on how they looked against Alabama because they were able that's what we're basing it on, correct?
Starting point is 00:27:26 And the off season, but then they play against Alabama and it doesn't look like they're that outmatched. I'm familiar with some of their roster being some local recruits. Their head coach has buzz around him as like maybe possibly going to a better program. I think UCF is better than USF, but I'm just saying the measuring stick for so long, for the last 15 years in that sport has been do it against Bama, and they've hung tight over the last two years with Bama. Now sometimes styles make fights, and they just may be an issue for Alabama. Alabama had a lot of fumbles in that game,
Starting point is 00:28:00 but I do think that this should be a really fun atmosphere. It's two teams that play in pro stadiums, it's at Raymond James at night, this isn't exactly college football rich in tradition, but it's going to be really fun. I like it when these two teams play. I would encourage them meeting more regularly, and I know they play next year in Miami, but it's a fun matchup, and this should be a really good test. That's a big boy at quarterback. That poses a different challenge for this Miami defense, especially at secondary, which we haven't seen tested all that much. They haven't been tested by big physical backs and quarterbacks that if they get to that second line,
Starting point is 00:28:36 try to make you tackle them. I'm curious to see how much our tackling has improved. What is the point spread in that game because I will- 17 and a half it is on the money I think. I will tell you that I am scared of the University of Miami going on the road against just about anybody and I've got some post-traumatic stress disorder about not trusting this coaching staff. So if you want to start grabbing some of my belief, you could do to South Florida what you did to Florida because you impressed me in the swamp.
Starting point is 00:29:17 But since then I saw Texas A&M go and do the same thing and so I need more proof even though I'm sold on the quarterback but I have not seen the quarterback actually hurried and harried. I have not seen him I don't know how many times he's been sacked but I don't feel like I've seen him rattled under any circumstances and I do worry about pass rush on the road. He did get sacked against FAMU and that's because Markel Bell was was playing on the line. Although I don't think that sack was his fault. Miami's had some injuries.
Starting point is 00:29:50 For example, you won't. Miami's been doing this without their best player on defense, Ruben Bain. I think you will see him next week, Friday night against Virginia Tech. But along the offensive line, they've been cautious. Shailen Rivers and Nez Cooper, they've been hobbled. Coach says that they're going to be back this week, but Miami's been doing this with a fair amount of rotation. And yes, you could say Florida's not very good. I believe Texas A&M is a good team, okay? They did that with their backup quarterback and
Starting point is 00:30:16 they won soundly. I think Texas A&M is good. That being said, Florida's gonna fire their coach. Their dumps are fire. The Texas A&M backup quarterback, that was a freshman. That's a mobile freshman, right? That was not- I think Jalen Henderson played some last year. It's funny, like, I don't understand what happened to Connor Wegman in that first game. He had a shoulder injury and he was throwing up.
Starting point is 00:30:35 I did not recognize that quarterback. You trusted him last year. I happen to love Connor Wegman. I think he's an NFL prospect and he was really bad against Notre Dame. So I think people, he was so bad that people might have convinced themselves with this performance that he's not the guy.
Starting point is 00:30:51 If that guy's a portal guy, a program would be wise to pick up Connor Wegman because I think he's dynamite. I just think he had a really bad game against Al Goldin's defense who is a great defensive coordinator in Florida should really look at hiring him. Duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh bah bah bah
Starting point is 00:31:13 The Reaper's a little too excited to be here. None of us are happy to see him or- Stigatz has never done this. Yeah, that's convenient. Bah bah bah He hasn't done it this season. He still owes penalties from the Clevelander. I'm still waiting for that freestyle he's gonna do on the stage at the Clevelander. He owes about nine penalties. I don't understand why there's a wizard in here
Starting point is 00:31:35 again. The wizard is not portending death. Mike go ahead and reach into the bucket of death. Let's see what you got. I got the Carolina Panthersthers I can tell you already going back all right Panthers at the Raiders the Raiders are a five-point favorite at home that we got the Baltimore Ravens all right the Ravens are playing at the Dallas Cowboys not not not a great pull for me that's not a terrible pick. You're at Cowboys and you're a one point favorite at the Cowboys. That's a surprising line, but you know, anytime you're not favored by more than three points you're a little nervous in this thing.
Starting point is 00:32:15 Okay, but I will tell you that last week you guys were hurting for me because I pulled the Colts at the Packers and then I threw it back. You said I shouldn't have done that. Then I pulled the Saints as a big underdog at the Cowboys and they won easily. It doesn't matter what the spreads are. Duke is picking next. Duke, is this a must-win game
Starting point is 00:32:31 for both the Ravens and Cowboys? Yeah. Why is there a wizard in here? Why did the wizard turn into Woody Page? I got the Chiefs. They're at the Falcons. Sunday Night Football. They're favored by three.
Starting point is 00:32:45 Primetime Kirk Cousins, you want to stay away now that he has a beard. They're like a second pull always. The Reaper walked away from you, assuming that you're taking care of him. The Reaper always moves home whenever someone gets my home, so you just keep moving. I guess, under protest though,
Starting point is 00:33:00 because I wasn't before the opportunity. Is that the Dolphins you got? Yeah, they're playing the Seahawks. They're a four and a half point dog. They're a fourawks. They're point dog. Yeah, I believe in Skylar next I Got it's crazy that they were saying yesterday that they're not sure if two is gonna travel to that game Why would you put them on a plane across the country? No, they knew all instincts. Why would you that's a good point?
Starting point is 00:33:20 My face versus the Eagles Saints hosting the Eagles a three-point favorite. I guess that you certainly upgraded there Roy Yeah, my the only one that likes the Dolphins this week think they get it done I think Skyler does actually seen people predict this game, and you might actually be the only person. I like them Seattle's they've been fine nothing too impressive This is the Titans that I have the Titans are two and a half point favorite at home against the Packers And it's not clear whether Jordan love is gonna play or not. I think he's gonna play I saw some report yesterday's practice two days in a row. I want the Malik Willis revenge game It's a weird line. I got the Wizard of Oz shit. All right lions tigers or bears. I'll get back to you in one second
Starting point is 00:33:58 Why does the Duke think that's a weird line Titans a two and a half point favorite against the Packers? You take the Bengals. I got the commanders at home winning that football. Alright, I'm gonna take the Bengals. Roy, your pick of the Saints, I don't know because I wasn't watching the game after they gave this stat, but the Saints started the season, their first 15 possessions, they scored on all of them I don't know if they kept doing that but they've been the most overwhelming offense in the sport I got the Bears here at the Colts the Bears are one and a half point dog
Starting point is 00:34:36 at the Colts. They're due though Dan. Two titans of coaching everyone knows both these head coaches names. I don't want to watch this game. You know that there hasn't been a murder in New Orleans in 18 days? That is not something that I thought I was going to hear. OK, Big Apple is what I got. I could take the Jets from last night, right? Can I? Can I take the Jets from last night on my Big Apple pick?
Starting point is 00:34:59 I thought that that's how that worked. What's the ruling? You going to call Sarah Spain? I thought the- I mean, you historically can pick a team that's on a buy. Sure, you can pick a team that's already won. I just, I thought that that was something we could do. I know this disappoints the audience.
Starting point is 00:35:12 Yeah, but then you're not gonna be able to put on a costume when you lose. Mm-hmm. Um, I really- So, did you think about that? I don't want to put on the costume. Yeah, okay. Yeah, all right, stop lying to the people.
Starting point is 00:35:24 Come on, now. You're great lying to the people. Come on now. You're great at the Rangers. I could barely hide that Woody as I was dressed as Abraham Lincoln. I thought it was pretty well hidden. I didn't think anybody saw it, and I thought they were gonna confuse it. I was just happy because we were getting people to vote.
Starting point is 00:35:37 I thought it was what they were gonna see there. I thought it was a Buzz Lightyear. My general. You could take the liberty they lost last night to the dream and then you're guaranteed a costume Thank you, Billy. I always appreciate that you're looking out for me But I'm gonna go ahead and tell you take the Jets and I'm gonna say that that's allowed Because you're not in charge anymore of the bucket of death. No Sarah Spain. I hired her. I did hire Sarah Spain I don't we've the last couple of weeks of shows have been moving too fast, but two weeks ago Hey y'all it's Mike and as you know it is football season, the all consuming football

Terms and conditions apply. Don LeBretard. Go ahead Billy, ask him your question. It's gymnastic gymnastics pop prop possibly Oh, wow, Wow two gods. I got some phlegm in my mouth. Yeah, it's okay. Yeah Gymnastics possibly corrupt. This is the done Lebatard show with a two gods The Jets last night though, I do want to talk about this because I think it's super interesting that Aaron Rodgers is going to play competent quarterback for a team that only needs competence from its quarterback. He's not gonna make mistakes. They're gonna be able to treat Mike Williams as a third
Starting point is 00:39:11 receiver because they've got decent skill position. In part because he is the third receiver over there. I want to ask you though Mike a question whether you get mad at me. Yesterday, last night, while I was watching Ray's Red Sox, I texted you that your Thursday Thunder was looking good because at halftime you had the Jets and you had both running backs going over on their rushing totals because you liked the Jets being able to run the football against the Patriots and they were able to run the football against the Patriots but it wasn't Bree to run the football against the Patriots, but it wasn't Breece Hall getting the amount of yardage
Starting point is 00:39:48 that you wanted. So we won two out of the three legs of the parlay, but did you get mad at me? And do you get mad at your friends if a bet is going well for you and then the friend comments on it? Because as soon as I sent it, I felt bad about what I had done, not because I would ever care
Starting point is 00:40:07 if someone did it for me, but I wasn't respecting your superstition. So I want to ask you to put this on the poll. Should you respect your friend's superstitions? Yes or no, because after I texted you, I felt bad. And then I felt worse when I saw that you had lost the bet. You were totally in the wrong there. That happened in our group chat with our football pool that we're in. Somebody took the victory for the Jets way too early in that game last night.
Starting point is 00:40:33 They were talking about how easy of a pick it was in the third quarter. We ended up covering, but it was a very dangerous game to play there. You don't, why do you have to get out there? The question I would pick, like, why do you gotta get out there? Just let the pit finish.
Starting point is 00:40:45 I wanted to share winning with a friend. It sounded like you shushed Chris. I mean, it's the second time today. I did not mean to shush you. I was trying to talk while the control room was also talking to me, and it wasn't clear that my microphone was on because somebody was talking to me. So you shushed them. Yes, that's what happened.
Starting point is 00:41:07 And Malley walked to the ocean. That's exactly what happened. We've got new people in the video room and they're talking to me a lot today. But when I say, do all of you agree with this? Do all of you agree with the idea that you shouldn't share the fun of a possible winning bet with your friend that the superstition is something that needs to be respected, because I don't respect anyone's superstitions. I'm not superstitious.
Starting point is 00:41:31 The sharing in joy that you want to is not worth how bad it's gonna be if you blow that bet for him. But I didn't have anything to do with blowing the bet for him. Breeze Hall did. No, you did. You lost me the bet. I don't think he'd get it.
Starting point is 00:41:44 Breeze Hall would have gotten it had you not texted me that. What don't you understand about this? How cosmically important I am. Do you know that it wouldn't have been different? You can't know that. I do know that. You can't possibly know that. You can't possibly know that.
Starting point is 00:41:58 I do know that. You can't. You can't know that. Just like you don't know that me going out of my seat to the concourse in in 2003 Let Alex Gonzalez doesn't hit that walk-off home run if I don't do that. That's what the butterfly effect You don't know that he does I do Has that same game that son of a gun Roger Clemens? It was pretending to retire. I know that
Starting point is 00:42:22 You wearing a certain shirt has no result on the impact of a game that I watch. You don't. You really don't know. You think, you think it doesn't. Ashton Kutcher, Butterfly Effect. Dark start to that movie. The guy from Boy Meets World 2, right? I watched the start of that movie.
Starting point is 00:42:38 I just remembered all the stuff where he goes back in time. I didn't remember all the dark stuff the first half hour of that movie. Don't re-watch that movie. Please. Chris, are you going to AJ and Big Justice Day at the FAU game? I am not going.
Starting point is 00:42:51 That's a doom. I'm not. I can't go because it's Saturday, my dad's party is that day. I am very disappointed. You should just do what I'm doing, which is skipping it and doing something you'd rather do. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:02 Wait, hold on a second. Wait, wait, hold on a second. I also am not attending, because I have the FIU Monmouth Homecoming game, if you want to listen, go to fiusports.com slash listen. How many of us are actually going to this party? Just you two are really not, and Jess, you two and Jess are not going to be.
Starting point is 00:43:18 Roy will show up any place that there is an open bar. That's when- I'm dry right now. That is- Oh, wow now thank you for doing what all those people do which is tell us about it yeah well he brought me no he's saying he's casting dispersion saying I'm sure on this part that's true but it was just a matter of time well you said you're dry right now will you be tomorrow night hopefully not Roy I'm not saying anything that's inaccurate the most consistent thing about metal arc media in its entire 20 year anniversary
Starting point is 00:43:44 that we are celebrating as a show If there's an open bar Roy shows up and bacon that's not an that's not an aspersion. That's just a fact I pay for my drinks to I'm an alcoholic. So well, I'm sorry. Wait, can you be dry and an alcoholic? That's what I'm trying right now. I'm trying not to be this dark I'm well, I'm worried about a, since we're on the subject. Just a general, well, he's been in the bathroom for about an hour and a half now. Amin didn't show up today, and Amin said to me yesterday, I'm worse on mornings after I haven't had drinks.
Starting point is 00:44:15 That's what he said to me yesterday. He said- That's wild. That's a bit of a sign. Yes, I'm just generally worried about Amin. I'm also now worried Chris You know this better than most I Don't know that we have a more sensitive person around here than your father
Starting point is 00:44:35 There is very little chance that people not showing up to this isn't going to be something that hurts his feelings And so people not showing up here. You tell me how you think that one's going to be something that hurts his feelings. And so people not showing up here, you tell me how you think that one's going to go. It's not gonna go unnoticed, I can assure you of that. I believe with them, they RSVP'd no and gave their reasons. So I think people that do it in the right way, I think if you RSVP yes and you don't show up,
Starting point is 00:44:59 that is like, yeah. That's gonna be a stugots problem. That's, I think, where you're gonna get him. I think he's okay if people have stuff. I think we're okay on that front right now. Well, if people are always be peed, and they show up late, that boat's gone. That's the question. Some people are like, hey, is this boat going somewhere,
Starting point is 00:45:16 or is it just staying? Because then they could show up whenever they wanted. This boat is moving. I keep telling people that. It's a good note for Dan on the front end. Because I believe for my mom's party, we had to keep the boat waiting for Dan and his parents. Wait, is that true?
Starting point is 00:45:27 He is a VIP. We've done boat parties before that had to stay waiting. My mom's 50th, I believe. You have to do that, because then you have a party where everyone's asking where's Dan. You can't have that kind of party. I believe it was like a couple minutes. No, it's totally fair criticism,
Starting point is 00:45:42 and I will tell you what happened. I made the mistake, this is one of the places where I learned I need to take the car away from my father and this was many years ago. My father will not allow me to take the car away from him. What happened is he got stuck in the Sun Pass Lane and he just stayed in it and we missed the exit because he couldn't get over and we just kept driving and driving past where it is that we needed to be and there have been a handful of times over the years where I've realized that I need to get my father a driver and he simply refuses and I don't know what you do in those circumstances when an old man who is now 81 years old will not listen to you. What I won't do is go to this with
Starting point is 00:46:23 him this time. I will get there on time because I will not be reliant on an 81 year old man to get me there but surely this has happened to you guys right where you end up in the Sunpass Lane and there's no way to get to the exit that you want because have any of you driven over any of those soft cones that are there in order to know you do. I've done of it You've done of it. I believe it honestly. That's a big doom They are saw they are saw they're not strong They are they all give they all you they're all broken because of how many people in Miami do do that be amazed
Starting point is 00:47:01 How little those mark your cars so what? In Miami, do do that. You'd be amazed how little those mark your cars. So. What? It's true. I didn't understand what you said. They don't mark your cars. Basically you can hit them and they do no damage.
Starting point is 00:47:11 It's often enough to have the data to tell you. And you go look in front, you're like, huh, nothing. How many booms? Doom! So what time is the party at and what time does Dan think the party is at? The party invitation says arrive around 5.30. I believe the boat is leaving at six.
Starting point is 00:47:26 That around is dangerous. No, no, no. The boat's leaving at six. Be there by 5.30. Are you guys bomb that you're gonna miss Bristle Motor Speedway? Yeah. It's a playoffs, night race.
Starting point is 00:47:36 I'm gonna be watching that at Raymond James Stadium. It's just terrible, just my luck. How far out are you guys going on this boat, International Waters? I think it's gonna get... Not really something I'm tracking, Billy. Oh. Billy, you're excellent at asking questions no one has answers to and bring the show to a dead halt.
Starting point is 00:47:52 Just a curiosity. What are you gonna be doing Saturday? Where can people find you? Because you're court gesturing on FIU radio again. How dare you, sir? I am there giving my expert analysis of the FIU Monmouth homecoming game at Pitbull Stadium. How do they find you is the question. Go to fiusports.com slash listen.
Starting point is 00:48:12 And maybe there's going to be video this time. We'll see. After the fact. I'm trying to, you know, see if I can trick Thomas into coming along and maybe filming some stuff. We'll see. We'll see what happens. Last time Taylor was supposed to come and then day of I said, are you coming or not? Because I need to get you a credential. She's like, uh, I'm more of a Tuesday game guy. I was like, okay, Taylor. Yeah, that's how it works around here. This Taylor, by the way, god, what a rain cloud.
Starting point is 00:48:34 He comes in today, he's like, by the way, Aaron Judge has a higher war and fruit, fruit, flop, flop, than Shohei Otani does. It's like, okay, he's like, only one MVP. It's like, yeah, there is only one, and it's not your guy, bud. I heard you guys yelling at each other before the show here.
Starting point is 00:48:49 Can I just show the video? Guy's a phony baloney over there, because earlier this week, we were kind of talking around the office, like, so who might wanna go, like, you wanna go see Shohei? He's like, for what? I'm like, cause he's in town, Dodgers are in town.
Starting point is 00:49:01 He's like, no thanks. I heard you guys yelling at each other before the show. Let's show the video of how an important Mariners game got decided against the Yankees the other night. Randy Rosarena is in the batter's box, and this is in extra innings, and it's first and third, they put the runner on second base,
Starting point is 00:49:17 so Julio Rodriguez, Seattle's best player, is on third, and Randy Rosarena, their big trade acquisition, swings at a pitch and misses he's got to make contact here it's a 2-2 pitch he swings and misses and let's watch this together because he loses his bat he struck out a lot and i don't know what julio rodriguez was doing off of third base but he got picked off because he was afraid of the bat and then just wandered away somewhere in a way that like a super boneheaded for an excellent player, an excellent player who plays baseball correctly.
Starting point is 00:49:48 I couldn't go to sleep after that. Horrible form, cheap tricks by the Yankees, cheap win and extra innings to clinch a playoff spot, despicable. Was that awesome Wills behind the dish? When you're hiring for your small business you want to find quality professionals that are right for the role. That's why you have to check out LinkedIn Jobs.
