Starting point is 00:02:00 A little Thursday nighter here. Yeah, I'd say a bit of a less crowded class right now to start the show today. I think Stu Gass was celebrating Thursday Night Football a little bit too much. Hey, Aaron Rodgers, you have a quarterback. It's a thing. Billy, since we've been doing God Bless Football, you've only seen me with Zach Wilson as my quarterback. I'm so excited for you to like see me with a quarterback because I don't know what it looks like. Well, here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:02:29 And I'm gonna tell you why I'm not excited is I get you guys in the off seasons and you're pretty obnoxious having done absolutely nothing. So now that you have a quarterback and you may start winning games, granted you beat the Patriots, not the best win. And Drake May was in there at the end which yeah. But Billy the Patriots beat us 15 straight times so like beating the
Starting point is 00:02:52 Patriots while while the Patriots are not nearly as good as they have been is still a big thing for a jet fan because they won 15 in a row. We hadn't beaten them at home since 2015. Yeah, but this- 2015. This is like the kid that like now has grown up and like beating their parent at basketball. And it's like, you used to beat me so much. It's like, yeah, but you're obviously so much better now.
Starting point is 00:03:16 By the way, fun episode we have today. We have Justin Pugh, who's gonna be joining us and he's gonna be talking to us about a number of things, including, you know, football, his new media career, and garage sales, which he had a garage sale the other day, which a little bit weird. We have Sims, we have Golic, we have our PICS segment with a surprise from Chris Humphries,
Starting point is 00:03:36 who kinda just was hanging around and then joined and made PICS. Spoiler alert, if you wanted to be surprised at the end of the PICS segments, Chris Humphries is gonna make an appearance and join. Oh, and we have Detective Matt. Who's Detective Matt, you ask? It's just a police officer.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Gordy needed some Wi-Fi, spoiler alert. He pulled into a police station, Detective Matt was there. For all our viewers and listeners, play a little game right now with yourself and ask yourself, who do you think Chris Humphries is with in that pick segment? Because you might be wrong. See if you can guess. It's a fun game, by the way.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Fast forward to the end. God bless football as presented by Smyrnaf. We do game days, please drink responsibly. The Smyrnaf company, New York, New York. Mikey, in all seriousness, Thursday night football, it wasn't a close game. The Jets did look good. Aaron Rodgers did look good.
Starting point is 00:04:22 I feel like at the end of this week, you guys may be tied for first in the AFC East with the Tua injury. We know he's on the IR, he's gonna be out a while. You guys could go on a little run here. We, Billy, we should. There's, I mean, we got the Broncos on 10 days rest and then we go to London to play Minnesota before our first real test when we come back and play Buffalo on Monday night. But they need to win the games they should
Starting point is 00:04:53 and not have a Jets type season where they all of a sudden lose a stinker to Denver. Yeah, I mean, even after the Bills, you have the test, you have the Steelers and the Patriots, which should be two more wins. Like it's shaping up to be a nice little season for the Jets. I know we were joking, we were laughing about, oh, 13 wins, 14 wins, but the playoffs are a real chance.
Starting point is 00:05:13 I mean, and obviously we're reacting to a Thursday night football game against the Patriots. And I don't wanna be Robert Sala here, who Aaron Rodgers went up and told, hey, calm down, we're up seven nothing, which by the way, incredible visual, like incredible visual because I think it perfectly encapsulates like where they are,
Starting point is 00:05:34 like on the football spectrum. The hierarchy. Exactly right. Where like Robert is just looking for any minor W's that he can get and Aaron is like, dude, act like you've been here before, which you haven't, but act like you have. Also, I hate you. Also, shut up and do the defense because it needs to get better.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Yeah. Yeah. By the way, Alan Lazard, I've always wondered this and I don't know why I'm mentioning this now. I don't understand those shirts and what they're made of and how the fabric of a shirt can stretch 15 yards without breaking. It's the most incredible material there is on earth. Most of my shirts stretch 15 yards, but that's for a different reason. Yeah, no, it's one of the funniest things.
Starting point is 00:06:20 It's now the banner for the Jets Twitter handle where they made it like he's standing on the 20 and Alan Lazard is scoring but the shirt is stretched that far Yeah, Reese Hall started touchdown, which by the way, I don't know how he was available No, Breeze Hall pick up in my fantasy league this week, which was great. What? Yeah, how is that even a thing? You know some of the leagues I'm in not the best I had I had a league where my wife was the second overall pick and she took Travis Kelsey and I was like, okay,
Starting point is 00:06:50 this is gonna be one of those leagues this year. So I picked up Breeze Hall, got me some fantasy points yesterday and here's the sad news though. While it was good for us, you can't take Breeze Hall in our weekly fantasy contest with DraftKings. And if you wanna participate in that,
Starting point is 00:07:04 you can go to dkng.co slash smirnoff. It's a $3 buy-in. Last week, Mikey, I think I told everybody on Monday, I won. It was impressive. I finished in fifth place. I won like $125, which now that you know, I think I'm gonna have to declare on my taxes.
Starting point is 00:07:19 But you get to pick all of your players from the one o'clock games, the four o'clock games, you compete against us. Me, Mikey, Stu Gotts, some other people from the show, Tony's in there, Jeremy's in there sometimes. It's a fun little time had by all, but it's just the Monday one o'clock and four o'clock games. So again, Breeze Hall, not available.
Starting point is 00:07:35 You can't take him in fantasy this week, unfortunately. I saw one player that I saw what they were going for, and I was like, oh, I'm definitely buying that player. I can't tell you who, but it's a quarterback, and he drives a car. Real quick, before we move on to our first guest, Braylon Allen, huh? Not too bad.
Starting point is 00:07:53 He's a thing. He's a thing. You guys got pieces in New York. It's fun. Fun little Thursday night football. It's fun to have a good team. So Mike, you feeling a little bit better after Notre Dame's bounce back win last week?
Starting point is 00:08:06 You know, I feel better, but it's gonna take a while now for the fans, for the players and the coaches, you move on. It's like you have to put that game, you know, behind you and move on. But as fans that go week to week, and that's what I am now, you get that big win and you're just like, God, you know, you let that one slip away. Because again, in week two, big teams played smaller teams and got away with close victories. And I thought Notre Dame would do that, but you just wonder if it's gonna sting them down the line.
Starting point is 00:08:40 And it made their, you know, having to play well and beat everybody even more important by dropping that one game. Unless NIU runs the table, and maybe they'll be the group of five champ, right? And be in the playoffs. Yeah. Well, what happens if NIU has one loss
Starting point is 00:08:59 and Notre Dame has one loss and the committee's trying to figure out who to put in there? Like, how's that gonna work out? Come on, I mean, head to head, right? No, I know it's gonna be Notre Dame. Workout. That's fair having lost to that team, you know, I am I am a head to head guy. So it would be it would be it
Starting point is 00:09:19 would be tough. But who would ni you lose to you know, I mean, so not you. I'm never going lose to? You know, I mean, so, not you, I'm never going to complain. Uh, you know, if Notre Dame is put above, right. If it comes down to they both have one losses and the one loss is Western Michigan by NIU and no, and Northern Illinois is ranked. I think that the Notre Dame lost Northern Illinois looks
Starting point is 00:09:44 better than a Western Michigan loss by NIU. Yeah. Thanks, Billy. Yes, you're right, Billy. Well, we're also creating a scenario where two of the five would get in, right, Mike? The non-five. Because there's an automatic bid for one,
Starting point is 00:09:59 and now we're putting NIU against Notre Dame in a weird scenario, right? Exactly. In one of the, yeah, yeah. And that's what's odd. The group of five can be outside the top 12, but they're still in. They'll do, they would just be ranked number 12.
Starting point is 00:10:14 I love that. Mike, do you think Alabama is better than Georgia? Wow, that's a good question. I don't think I can base it off a one week of Georgia playing a close game to Kentucky. Right. And Alabama blowing out a team in impressive fashion, you know? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Jalen Milro's playing some ball. He's good. No doubt about it. I mean, that train keeps rolling even though they've had recruits leave, they've had portal guys leave, they've had portal guys leave, they've had portal guys come in. I would still give it to Georgia. And I knew Texas would jump to Georgia, but I think it's Texas and Georgia, and then kind of everybody else.
Starting point is 00:10:55 There are certain schools like the University of Miami that take me back to my childhood, meaning if they're good, I think college football is better off for it. Nebraska is one of those teams. Are you buying Nebraska being back? I mean, to the extent they're back, yeah, they're in the top 25.
Starting point is 00:11:14 So yeah, I'm buying that they're back. This kid's a really good quarterback, but they have more of a complete team around him. It's not just all reliant on the quarterback. So are they back to win the big 10? I don't think to win the big 10, but the arrow is pointing up on what Matt Ruhl had had. So it's going in the right direction.
Starting point is 00:11:37 Like we talk about NFL teams that we don't think are playoff ready, but they're going in the right direction. The thing with me in the rankings right now is I look at five through eight and I see Ole Miss, Tennessee, Missouri, Miami. And that's a foursome. These are really good with Jackson Dart.
Starting point is 00:11:59 We're leading passing yardage in the country. And the Tennessee, Josh Hypple's offense is just putting up, now they haven't played anybody yet, but just putting up a ton of points. Missouri is a complete team. And Miami, the U is definitely back, led by Cam Ward. So that's an interesting, now three of those are obviously SEC teams and one is the ACC.
Starting point is 00:12:23 And Miami should definitely be winning the ACC. So the other three are obviously in a tougher conference. Tennessee does play Oklahoma this week. Yes they do. Oklahoma, you know, I don't know how much I buy in. Their old line has been reshuffled through the year. I don't think they can keep up with Tennessee. I'll be honest, I like Tennessee in this one.
Starting point is 00:12:46 All right, looking forward to next weekend. We have Alabama and Georgia coming up. Yes. Yeah, it's going to be so much fun, such a great weekend. Mike, I'm interested in, because you're a former Eagle, and I know you care about that franchise a lot, if you can kind of take us through what you were thinking as Nick Sirianni blew that game last week
Starting point is 00:13:11 And what you think Nick Sirianni's future is with Philadelphia because Belichick is just roaming around that stadium So when you when you say blow the game They ran a sick what should have been a successful play had the running back not dropped the football right the game was over Yes, I mean the I know they were talking about analytics. Should you run the ball? The bigger question, because that play should have worked. And I know they say, well, a handoff, you have a better chance, you know, you don't have a chance of an incomplete pass and the clock stops and all that. That play worked great. That play would have been a first down. That play should have ended the game. So now you can question after that play, should he have gone for it on fourth and three instead of the kick and field goal and going up by six? My son Mike and I were discussing that and his thought
Starting point is 00:13:59 was if you go up by six, now the team that's down and getting the ball with a minute something to go is playing purely for a touchdown. They're going balls out for a touchdown. But if you say went forward on fourth down and didn't make it and you were only up by three, then the team that's down three is kind of just playing for a field goal and getting a field goal and maybe tying it and sending it to overtime. My thought is on these analytics is, analytics, I don't think take into consideration how the game has gone.
Starting point is 00:14:34 This was a low scoring game. Atlanta had kicked three field goals and had one touchdown. It wasn't like it was a 35-32 game where you're like, uh, whoever has the ball last is going to score a touchdown, you know, and that's going to be it. This was a low scoring game. So I have no problem with them putting Atlanta in the position to get six because on four scoring drives they did it once. One time out of four. The other time three times they kick field goals. I look at it as, again, I don't understand how defenses go to prevent defenses.
Starting point is 00:15:10 You know the other line, prevent defense, prevent you from winning. I don't get it, but Philly, to their demise, they don't have a great pass rush, and they were getting run on. So they still have some issues on defense, but I personally don't have an issue with the pass play to Saquon should have been caught, should have been a first bound game,
Starting point is 00:15:31 should have been over. And I don't have a problem with them going up six. Mike, the only thing I'll say as it relates to the Saquon play, yes, good play call. Yes, you should have caught the ball, but you are running a play where if he drops the ball and he did the clock stops. Yes, you are. Yes, right. You're taking a chance, but you're also talking about, we talked about where did Dan Campbell make it last year? He made it all the way to the NSC Championship game
Starting point is 00:15:55 by gambling, by taking chances, by putting yourself in a position to where if it doesn't work, it might be O time. In fairness to Sirianni, he has coached the same way all the way through. He was a play away from winning the Super Bowl. So, I mean. I mean, he definitely was. So, I don't, that play should have worked.
Starting point is 00:16:15 I mean, the execution was there. They just, you had the drop. Mike, Josh Allen Baker Mayfield. If the season ended today, who is the NFL MVP? I mean, let me tell you, I love the way Baker Mayfield plays the game. Oh, great. And his teammates love the way he plays the game.
Starting point is 00:16:38 And he is the ultimate, you don't want me anymore guy, I'll put that chip on my shoulder. Cleveland, you didn't want me anymore. Carolina didn't want me anymore. Now, he'll put that chip on my shoulder Cleveland You didn't want me anymore Carolina didn't want me anymore now He wasn't gonna be the quarterback with the Rams that was gonna be staffer that was just to stop But you don't want me anymore. I'll friggin show you you know that you should have you should have kept me and He's got the love in Tampa, and he is he is just he doesn't have the talent that Josh Allen has. But man, he has got what Dan Campbell calls grit. He has got grit in surplus.
Starting point is 00:17:13 He will, and you fear every time he runs it that he's gonna get hurt. I think that he's gonna head butt somebody without his helmet on. But I love his leadership. But I mean, I would take Josh Allen. Josh Allen is yeah, he's it seems like he's the best quarterback in the NFL. I know everyone's gonna say Patrick Mahomes, but the real MVP of the Chiefs the
Starting point is 00:17:33 last two years has been Steve Spagnola. Do you agree? Yes. Thank you. Even to even to the point where Patrick Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes said he was mad this off and they won the Super Bowl and he was mad this off and they won the Super Bowl. And he was mad because their offense was a Midland type of an offense or not the offense, I shouldn't say Midland, they were still a really good offense,
Starting point is 00:17:53 but not the offense he was used to having. The offense that usually leads Kansas City. It was the defense that led Kansas City. And even though they won the Super Bowl, that just ate up Patrick Mahomes, man, which is a scary thought for this year then. Well, speaking of the Chiefs, how big a loss is Pacheco considering they were playing
Starting point is 00:18:13 defense and running the ball? I mean, they beat the Bengals and Mahomes threw for like 151 yards. Like how big is Pacheco to this offense and him being out? Well, I mean, you look at what they've done in the draft and you look at who they got, the kid, what, Carson Steele? Pacheco was a seventh rounder and produced. So I'm gonna give Andy the credit and the staff
Starting point is 00:18:37 and the management team the credit of getting this undrafted kid, Carson Steele, who is like 230 at six foot. I mean, he's like a, like a muscle. And how now he had a fumble. I understand that. But an easy Isaiah Pacheco, no, it's going to hurt him. Just like, just like with all the talent
Starting point is 00:18:55 San Francisco has losing CMC is going to hurt. Maybe not from the rushing standpoint, cause Jordan Mason had 200 yard games, but from splitting CMC out and making him as mismatch in the passing game, that can hurt. But yeah, it's definitely going to hurt with Pacheco being out. Mike, the NFL is so funny because Geno Smith and Sam Dardell, two former Jett quarterbacks, I'll point out.
Starting point is 00:19:16 They're 4 and 0. Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow are 0 and 4. It drives me crazy. The NFL is so funny. But I am wondering, of Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow If I told you one of those two quarterbacks one of those two teams Even at 0 and 2 is still gonna make it to the AFC championship game. Which one would you say it's gonna be? So Cincinnati by the way, it would be a good AFC championship game those two teams. Yes, it would
Starting point is 00:19:43 it would be a good AFC championship game. Those two teams. Yes, it would. I mean, because look at them both. I mean, the Ravens were two toes away from going for two to beat Kansas City in opening week. They were right there. And Cincinnati played obviously Kansas City well. So Cincinnati, you can kind of go, Oh, well, this is kind of their sample size since Zach Taylor has been there. I think they're now one in nine in their first two games of the season They obviously come into the season not ready whether that's Not enough preseason playing time not enough Pratt and whatever whatever the reason is there is a pattern there of enough Pratt and whatever whatever the reason is there is a pattern there of they're not good the first two weeks of the season but then as long as Joe Burrow stays healthy they're normally a playoff team why i kind of lean to Baltimore now Cincinnati has more weapons once T Higgins gets
Starting point is 00:20:41 back and you got Jamar chase uh though, they need some help in their running game Or baltimore as a running game baltimore's got two good receivers a flowers at speedies a flowers I like baltimore's defense a little better than cincinnati's defense. So I I will I will say that is the difference Uh in why I would choose baltimore there You gots, I don't know if you saw Mike, I'm sure you're aware of this. You know what came out recently? The first year eligible members for the NFL Hall of Fame.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Yes. Oh wow. So we have some names on this list and I'm wondering, because this is the year that we finally get resolution, some somewhat resolution to is Eli Manning a Hall of Famer? I mean, we'll find out, is he a first ballot Hall of Famer because he is eligible now for the first time. Now, also on this list, there's some big names. There's Marshawn Lynch, Daryl Sprouls,
Starting point is 00:21:31 Demarius Thomas is on there, Vernon Davis, Akib Tlaib, Terrell Sugg. So like, there's a lot of big names. Adam Vinatieri is on there as a potential first time Hall of Famer. So of those groups, like Vinatieri's a question mark because I think we all think that he's a great player, but is he a Hall of Famer. So of those groups, like Vinatieri is a question mark because I think we all think that he's a great player, but is he a Hall of Famer?
Starting point is 00:21:48 Because there's what one kicker in the Hall of Fame now, right? Yeah. Yes. Yeah. So is he get in? I think. Yeah, he's not going to get it on the first ballot. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:21:57 He should not get. I'm more interested if goal and thinks that Eli Manning is a first ballot guy because I do not. Okay. So first first Vinatieri is going to get in but not on not on the first ballot. I know he has the most stats, most points, most everything, but people will say it's an accumulator of 24 years. But he does have big kicks in the post-season, which is one of the reasons we're talking about Eli the most because Eli made zero all pro teams,
Starting point is 00:22:22 but he has two big moments on Super Bowls and two big post seasons. Eli Manning is not getting in on the first vote. I do not think he's getting in. I think he's going to get into the Hall of Fame. And this is kind of a weird thing. If you're a Hall of Fame or you're a Hall of Famer, but it's kind of like, I think there are separate rooms in the Hall of Fame, like Deacon Jones, Reggie White, Lawrence Taylor are in a separate pass rushing room in the Hall of Fame. And I think that, so I think there are those that say,
Starting point is 00:22:55 I got in on the first ballot and those that didn't. I do not think Eli gets in on the first ballot. I think the two locks, the two locks for first ballot Hall of Famers are Terrell Suggs and Luke Keakley. I think they are locks. Now, Luke Keakley played eight years, but in those eight years, he led everybody in tackles, passes the fence, the interceptions led all linebackers.
Starting point is 00:23:23 So what do they say about Hall of Fame? You have to be the best at your position for a period of time. He was the best at his position. And you can look at others at like Davis who got in, the running back from the Broncos. Terrell Davis, yeah, it took Pasello a while though. He had a similar situation, took Tony a little bit.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Gale Sayers was a shortened career. I think Luke Keighley gets in on the first. And I think Terrell Suggs of the modern players, when they started the sacks in 82, is eighth on the list. There are players behind him who are in the Hall of Fame, who have less sacks than him. And every player above him is in the Hall of Fame. He should be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Keighley should be a first ballot Hall of Fame, who have less sex than him, and every player above him is in the Hall of Fame. He should be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Starting point is 00:24:07 Keechley should be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Marshall Yonda, now there might be a little bit of a line at the guard position, but I think Marshall Yonda has a chance, I think Earl Thomas has a chance. The Legion of Boom, you know, with Kam Chancellor and Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas, Earl Thomas was the glue of that legion to boom of how he played and I think he should get some Looks as a first ballot. I don't know if he will but I think Suggs and Keighley should definitely be first time first ballot Hall of Famers
Starting point is 00:24:38 I don't know if you guys caught this or not So after their great performance speaking of Hall Hall of Fame, the Cardinals this past weekend, Kyler Murray's jersey was sent to the Hall of Fame. Ridiculous. Have some standards. And will be displayed somewhere in the Hall of Fame because he became just the second player in NFL history with 250-plus passing yards, 50-plus rushing yards, and a perfect 158.3 passer rating. So somewhere there's a wing, there's a bathroom,
Starting point is 00:25:07 there's something where this Jersey of Kyler Murray's is going to be displayed in the Hall of Fame. Too much? Okay, I mean. It's a room I'm not going in, I can tell you that much. Cool for him, I mean I would go in the room and look at the accomplishments and say, wow, but I didn't know that was put a Jersey in the hall of fame worthy.
Starting point is 00:25:27 Yeah. It's a waste of break. Would it be to put them in stalls like that? A few bathroom stalls. That's what I'm saying. It's a great game. I mean, a great game. And again, only the third player to do it. We too.
Starting point is 00:25:39 Right. I don't care. It's an opposed season. And I don't just mean Kyler's jersey, others that they do this for, I'm kinda wishy washy on that. I have a quick question for you, Mike. If you had one thing, one moment, one game, one anything from your career that was sent to Canton
Starting point is 00:25:57 to be part of the Hall of Fame, what might it be? Wow. Me? Yeah, yeah. Like this, similar to this, like one good performance. Here's like, you know, shoelaces or something, whatever. Mike, you are a great football player who played in a ton of big games and I,
Starting point is 00:26:14 all right, great was a stretch. You were a very good football player, okay? I didn't, I didn't, I didn't do anything worthy of sending anything to the hall of fame though. Some people would say that about Kyler's jersey this past week. Well, that was a way when you're only the third player in the history of the league to do something. I was never the third player in the history of the league to do anything.
Starting point is 00:26:35 I'm sure you were good or bad. I'm sure you're going to say good or bad. You got to qualify. Did your cleat ever touch Reggie White's cleats? I mean, how about that? I helped him up. I could be in the Hall of Fame if there are pictures of Reggie and me helping him up.
Starting point is 00:26:49 Or I could be in the play. I was notorious for getting to the quarterback a second after Reggie sacked the quarterback because the whistle blew and the O-line stopped and I kept going. Mike would have had 150 sacks if not for that Reggie White. Lockwood Reggie getting Reggie and Clyde and Jerome getting in the way. I'd have had so
Starting point is 00:27:07 many sacks. Maybe we get like a helping hand wing or something that's dedicated to like charitable efforts and like your hand taste. That's my hand. That's my hand. Exactly. Exactly. Exactly. Wait, Billy, I thought you were going to object to Eli Manning. Like he said, I was just wondering what you. No, but Eli should be in the room where, hey, I'm 2 and 0 against Brady at Super Bowls. That room. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:29 That room. The only one. That's true. He is the only one. So good. Go, Joe and Gollick. Check him out 8 to 10 AM every day on the DraftKings network. LeBron James joining you today.
Starting point is 00:27:42 That is big. Go check it out, huh? Yeah, that's a pretty big thing. Very, very, very, very interested in that, yes. Yes, yes. Well, you know what happened. We did it, so we'll go listen. But yeah, go listen.
Starting point is 00:27:54 That's my tease. Go listen. It's really good. Yes, good job out of you. Thanks. Ah, it's that time of year again. The season we all love the most. Football season.
Starting point is 00:28:10 I remember a time when you would go out to tailgate and all you needed was some charcoal, a grill, and a nice cold Miller Lite. Lots changed over the years. You know, one thing that hasn't? The great taste of Miller Lite. Here's another thing that hasn't changed, is that it's less filling. So what's the best part about the original light beer? Miller Lite sparked this debate in 1975 and we still haven't settled it. You used to be able to just go
Starting point is 00:28:31 enjoy a Miller Lite. Now you have to pack all these things, chairs, electric grill this and here's an outdoor bathroom that you can go in and there's a tent around it. How about a nice old tree with a Miller Lite in one hand? You don't have to choose what's best. Miller Lite has great taste and is less filling. Tastes like Miller time. To get Miller Lite delivered right to your door, visit MillerLite.com slash GBF.
Starting point is 00:28:53 Or you can find it pretty much anywhere that sells beer. Celebrate responsibly. Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 96 calories per 12 ounces. Fewer cows and calves than premium regular beer. 12 ounces, fewer cows and calves and premium regular beer. I mean, you're not playing weight. There's no way. I mean, no, I mean, this is what a left tackle looks like boys. Give me a break. You may not. You may
Starting point is 00:29:30 not like it. You just have to accept it. Okay, you how much weight have you lost since you stopped playing football? Well, it's all I dropped weight when I got on Cliff Kingsbury's offense and we were going, you know, no huddle and up tempo on the ball. But I played last year, 10 pounds heavier than I am right now.
Starting point is 00:29:46 Really? Okay, not too much. Now I let up a bunch of sacks that left tackle last year, so I don't know if it's good. Right, do you remember all the sacks you gave up? I mean. I didn't know the playbook at the time, so two of them were just not knowing,
Starting point is 00:30:03 getting out of my stance. It's like Buffalo Bills, Sunday Night Football, not getting out of my stance. It's like Buffalo Bills, Sunday Night Football, not getting out of my stance. So I don't really blame me for those. Justin Pugh is with us. He's a former left tackle. He is not built like a left tackle right now, but at one point in time, he was built like a left tackle.
Starting point is 00:30:19 Yes, Billy. Well, is it safe to say former yet? I feel like you're technically a free agent still. Like you haven't officially retired. Correct? There was a clip of me blocking my little cousin on the beach last week and an NFL team called me right after seeing that. Wow. All right. How little was it? Yeah. You're six foot. All right. Pancake. Will be tackles that size now. Right. You pancaked your cousin?
Starting point is 00:30:46 Hey, you know, no big deal. What do you miss most about the NFL? I know you're off doing some exciting stuff, and we'll get to that in just a second. But in terms of playing, like I was watching Jason Kelsey last night, and he was emotional. And part of that emotion was, oh my god, I no longer play
Starting point is 00:31:05 football. I am going to be a fan, a spectator for the first time in my life. What has the transition been like for you and what do you miss most about playing in the NFL? I miss the guys. I miss the locker room. I miss going to the team dinners just, you know, bullsh** with the guys and having fun. That was the one thing. The camaraderie is what I love the most. And then the competition. There's nothing like finding out how good you are at something. Put your hands on somebody and find out can you stop them from moving you against your will and that is those are the two things I'll miss the most. The competition and the camaraderie. It's pretty cool what you're doing every Thursday this season. The current NFL free agent will be traveling to respective host on Thursday nights and you're trying to find the best fan base out there.
Starting point is 00:31:52 So you have gone to Kansas City and I think Miami thus far. I know it's not Miami. Kansas City shows up to games. Those fans six hours before the game and dolphin fans show up to games two hours late. So what was your experience with the Kansas City fan base? The Kansas City fan base is amazing. If you want to know what heaven is, just get out of your car at a tailgate in Kansas City and smell the barbecue in the air like that is what heaven is.
Starting point is 00:32:17 Those fans were tremendous. They're standing the entire game. They're doing the chop. They're doing the chance. They had the B2 bomber flying over. It was a, you know, it adds to the allure of the experience when they're doing the chop they're doing the chance they had the b2 bomber flying over it was a you know it adds to the Allure of the experience when they're coming off a Super Bowl win that was an incredible experience that you have a game that went down to the wire Conversely we go to Miami and that game was over at halftime
Starting point is 00:32:39 Unfortunately didn't get to see the best of the Miami fans Because a lot of them were leaving after halftime. The Tua injury completely sucked all the air out of the building. It was a pretty somber third and fourth quarter, I will say. What times you get to Kansas City for the Taylor? Cause we got there also,
Starting point is 00:32:56 we had a hit at the stadium at 7 a.m. and found that there were cars that had already been parked there since 8 p.m. the night before. So how early did you get there trying to get into the game? We got there a little bit late because we went to Joe's Barbecue, which I don't know if you guys tried while you were there,
Starting point is 00:33:12 but it is unbelievable. So we went there, somebody did, there you go, perfect. Guess which one? So I went. Well, you know, I was trying to put on weight. I was trying to get myself ready to go. I mean, you know, that's why I was trying to bulk up. Yeah. So was my. So yeah, I went and tried the barbecue. So we got there about four hours prior to the game and we had trouble finding parking in the tailgates.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Crazy, right? Like, listen, it's going to be hard to find a fan base more passionate than the Kansas City fan base. I feel like you found your winner week one. I mean, it's a bucket list trip for sure. I grew up in the Kansas City fan base. base more passionate than the Kansas City fan base. I feel like you found your winner week one. I mean, it's a bucket list trip for sure. I grew up in Philadelphia. We're going to Philadelphia for a Thursday night game.
Starting point is 00:33:52 You know, those fans get crazy. There's video circulating to the Cleveland Browns getting out there the night before to get into their municipal lot. So there are definitely some fan bases out there. The Bills don't play on Thursday night this year. They represented in Miami. Green Bay is another one that comes to mind.
Starting point is 00:34:08 So we might not get to every fan base this year, but it doesn't mean that we're stopping after this year. I think we're onto something. We love getting into the trenches with the fans. It's been a great experience thus far. You're a former giant. What's the experience gonna be like at a jet game this Thursday?
Starting point is 00:34:24 The Jets fans are electric. The J jets fans are loud. They're proud. I'm glad they won. I was, I was low key cheering for the jets in this last game on Sunday. Cause you don't want to go to a game where the jets are owned too. I was hoping the Patriots were going to pull it out and overtime against Seattle wasn't meant to be. It's going to be a slow pace game. The jets aren't putting a lot of points up on the board. The Patriots are just going to, they are determined. They already told you what they're going to be a slow paced game. The Jets aren't putting a lot of points up on the board. The Patriots are just going to, they are determined.
Starting point is 00:34:46 They already told you what they're going to do. We're going to turn it around and hand it to Ramon Dre Stevenson 50 times in a game. And if you can stop it, you'll have success. And if you can't, it's going to be a long day. How are you judging these fan bases? Like what are you, like the winner is going to be judged. How?
Starting point is 00:35:01 City, the fan base themselves going into the tailgates, going into the food, like with the J tailgates, going into the food. Like with the Jets, we're going to go try, you know, sauce Gardner went and did this chopped cheese. We're going to go try that out. I think we're going to go try the Taylor ham or pork roll, whatever side of the fence you fall there. I know Mike Williams had a little dilemma on that one. So and then we'll go into the stadium and then the city itself. So obviously me being and playing in New York,
Starting point is 00:35:25 the city will obviously roll over from the Jets to the Giants the following week. But then it goes into the fan base. How the tailgate go? How do we interact during the game? Are we standing the whole time? Are we in it? Are we sitting down?
Starting point is 00:35:39 Those types of things are what I really want to find out. And if you're a fan traveling to MetLife to see a game, what are you in for? What's your experience gonna be like? Usually a bad one. Anyway, go ahead, Billy. You can check out his show Net Worth with Justin Pugh. It's part of the Athlete Podcast Network.
Starting point is 00:35:54 You can check it on YouTube, Twitter, or X, I guess, TikTok, Instagram. Is this something, I guess, it's not a focus of yours, obviously, while you're playing. You're not thinking of these things, but this is something I guess that as fans or people covering the game, we don't really think about it
Starting point is 00:36:09 and we kinda take for granted. This is something that you haven't been able to do for probably what? 20 years of your life. You haven't actually been able to be a football fan. So when you're playing, do you wonder by driving in and seeing fan bases and stuff, wow, this seems like it would be fun.
Starting point is 00:36:24 This seems like a cool thing to do. Like this is something I want to check out when I'm done here. Yeah, that's exactly why we did it. When I'm driving into a lot of these stadiums, they're flipping us the bird. They're throwing stuff at the bus. We're interacting with fans, even even live in games in Seattle. I've had times where I've. Gone back and forth with the fan in the stands,
Starting point is 00:36:43 Las Vegas, when when Kyler Murray scrambled around and we beat them in overtime two, three seasons ago now. I remember I ran right up to a fan after I love interacting with the fans. It's what I've always done while I played. So I think this is a great way for me to get involved with the fan bases. It's they're what makes our game great. And that's where I want to shine a light on a lot of these fans. I had one on my, on my show, license plate guy from the New York giants.
Starting point is 00:37:09 He spends a massive amount of money following the team around every year. And it's guys like that, that I want to shine a light on. And that's what makes this thing, you know, happen. That's what makes us the energy electric. And that's why we do what we do on the field because of the fans. So a lot of athletes, when they finish, they want to go into the media and they just kind of cover the games. How did you decide that you wanted to do more of the sports business aspect of it?
Starting point is 00:37:34 The money tells you the whole story. So I don't care what team you're on, who you're a fan of, the money will tell you. If the Cowboys were really pot committed on winning this year, he would have got Dak Prescott. And I say he, Jerry Jones, would have got Dak Prescott. And when I say he Jerry Jones would have got Dak Prescott CD Lamb signed early. But he's telling you he's going to sign guys that are 36, 37 years old, expect them to be able to stop the run.
Starting point is 00:37:53 And that's just not the case. Like it is just the money tells you the story of what's happening when we, when we banned the hip drop tackle, when we increased protection of the quarterbacks. Yes, we care about the health and safety of players, but we care about, you know, people tuning in on a Thursday night with their star player on the field. And I've always, you know, I was a finance major in college,
Starting point is 00:38:12 so the money always was very imperative to me. And it's why we play this game. Players trade their health for money. That's like the underlying basis of NFL football. And that's something that was always a part of what I loved about it. And I negotiated some of my contracts with the Cardinals there towards the end. I negotiated with Joe Shane last year on my deal with the Giants alongside my agent.
Starting point is 00:38:35 I didn't do it by myself, but I love that side of the business. What's the most glaring thing you see studying the money that maybe the average fan doesn't see when it comes to the NFL? Like what's something you see and you're like, they just don't see that this is what they're trying to do. So I'm going to give you the two ends of the spectrum. The Miami, or not the Miami Dolphins, sorry. The Dallas Cowboys are the cheapest team in football. They spend the least amount of money of any team in football.
Starting point is 00:39:04 They are the best talent evaluators and drafters. Will McClay, the player personnel, Jerry Jones, Steven Jones, they can draft. They just don't spend the money when it comes time to pay those players. And typically they let those guys either walk or a guy like Tyron Smith signed a 10 year deal, signs of a team friendly deal. Conversely, the Cleveland Browns spend the most money in the NFL. And that's why they were able to get to the playoffs last year with a guy like Joe Flacco, because they have all the talent around them
Starting point is 00:39:32 and they can make up for poor quarterback play. Comparatively, the Cleveland Browns spend $50 million more a year on their roster than any team in the NFL, which is just crazy. If they just hit on a quarterback into Sean Watson, the Cleveland Browns should be a shoe in for the playoffs every single year that takes ownership that takes the general manager doing things and buying into the right way.
Starting point is 00:39:54 The Philadelphia Eagles probably had the most success with that strategy and it shows in games that are tight and they're close when you have more talent and larger amounts of depth. It pays off in the long run. What is the best piece of business advice you have gotten? Who'd you get it from? My uncle, when I first got drafted, he handles my money.
Starting point is 00:40:13 And he said, money's like soap. The more you play with it, the less you have. So athletes get really good at not investing. Don't invest in anything. Put your money into the treasuries, put your money into a money markets account. Just follow the Vanguard. Don't invest. If athletes got really good at that, we would save a lot more money.
Starting point is 00:40:30 Why are athletes not better at that? Because you try to take care of the people that took care of you. So it ends up being an investment in a cousin's car wash, a bar, a concept that doesn't make any sense. You're not doing any due diligence on them. It's more of just like, oh, you helped me, here's some money. Oh, you were my coach when I was growing up. Here's money to start a business you wanna start.
Starting point is 00:40:51 Athletes don't get into the best deals because they don't have access. They don't have that infrastructure in place. So if your first contract, all you do is say no, that's the best thing you can do. And then as you progress, start to find guys in the locker room like Larry Fitzgerald, I found here when I was in Arizona. Follow Larry Fitzgerald start to find guys in the locker room like Larry Fitzgerald I found here when I was in Arizona.
Starting point is 00:41:06 Follow Larry Fitzgerald follow that in the locker room that's been doing at a high level and ask him if you can look at deals that he's getting into. That's how you start to progress in the NFL and you start to level up your network because you don't have a network when you first get drafted. So did the people around you know that's just kind of the approach you were going to take? Or did you have like uncomfortable conversations with people were like, you know what, like
Starting point is 00:41:27 third cousin, I don't love you. You're getting nothing. It was tough conversations for sure. I mean, you want to help people and you want to help your direct family. And I would never tell a guy not to buy a house for his mom, but maybe we rent that house to start. Maybe we rent her an apartment in our nice neighborhood instead of getting her a house that has all the bills and the mortgage and all the things that come
Starting point is 00:41:48 with home ownership as most of our listeners probably are aware of or at least experienced in some capacity. I made mistakes in my first year. We kind of set out a plan of like, we know we're gonna treat this signing bonus like you're never gonna see another dollar for the rest of your life.
Starting point is 00:42:04 So the signing bonus will not be touched. And luckily dollar for the rest of your life for the signing bonus Will not be touched touched and luckily I was the first round pick. I had some off-the-field money I was able to live off of and I made mistakes I won out I went out into the bars into New York City and got the bottle service or I had the Amex card and I used it when you have no limit at 22 years old in New York City You're gonna make mistakes and I learned from and I looked back and we went over the budget after the year and I realized that it just isn't sustainable. But I had good infrastructure in place.
Starting point is 00:42:29 I had an uncle that was in the business for 30 years that was able to provide those guardrails and that's where I think a lot of guys get in trouble. Do you, I would, so from the way you're describing it, I would say that you're like money conscious, right? Like you wouldn't describe yourself as like cheap or thrifty, but what is like the cheapest thing that you do? Like you're not a coupon person, are you?
Starting point is 00:42:50 So I will give you a prime example. Can you guys still hear me? Yeah, of course. Yes, we can hear you. Okay. This is very exciting. I cannot wait to see how cheap you are. We had a garage sale at my house the other day. Oh Lord.
Starting point is 00:43:01 Oh boy. Why? What are you bugging me? My father-in-law did it. My father-in-law did it. I didn't donate. We were going to donate everything. Right. Like we were getting we had a bunch of old stuff in my father in law's like, no, we're doing a yard sale. So I had a yard sale while I was doing my ESPN hit on Sunday. Covering the game, the games from one to four. My father in law had a yard sale.
Starting point is 00:43:22 Pew, you made 5454 million, I mean. Yeah, are you ever too good to have a yard sale? I honestly just like conversing with people early in the morning. Right. You just did it to make friends, yeah. Look, it's the same reason I'm going back to the fan base, the neighborhood, the community,
Starting point is 00:43:40 it's what it's all about. You were just lonely. It's lonely, right? Yeah, did you haggle? It's a great question. Were you haggling with people, Pew? Here's the one thing. This woman came up and she's like,
Starting point is 00:43:49 I'm looking for something that I can't live without. I just don't know what it is yet. I guess that's like the saying at yard sales. And she offered me 50 cents for like my wife had like a little ring and she's like, do you really want to go 50 cents? So just give me a dollar. And she's like, no, I have 50 cents on me right now. And I didn't haggle her down too much.
Starting point is 00:44:06 My wife got mad. So I just, I gave her the ring for 50 cents. What's the most expensive thing you sold that day? We sold an old outdoor, cause we cleaned out a storage unit. I got rid of the storage unit. So we had a table and outdoor chairs that somebody bought and, uh, we're trying to sell couch right now. So, well, hold on.
Starting point is 00:44:24 How can people buy your couch? Let's help you get this couch off your hands. Like this is, this is to sell a couch right now. So well, hold on. How can people buy your couch? Let's help you get this couch off your hands. Like this is this is my mission in life right now is make sure someone buys this couch from you. Yeah, no, it's big like Pia. We want to help you out here. What do we do? Was this your last?
Starting point is 00:44:35 Hold on. I say now this all this money so we lost our sponsor for our series. So I've been paying for this series out of pocket. Oh man, so this yard sale is nowhere in comparison to helping pay for this series, all the editing. So this money's going to send me off to go interact with the fans. So it's a Robin Peter to pay Paul, I guess. Stupid us, we thought you were gonna do something nice
Starting point is 00:44:57 like charity with this, but instead you're going to hang out with drunks in a parking lot. He's laughing. Well, hey, the fact. Hey, what would your uncle say? It is, man. You guys got to call a spade a spade. What would your uncle say about how you're spending this money?
Starting point is 00:45:12 He would not be happy. I mean. Yeah, this not having a sponsor and flying to a game every Thursday across country, hotel, having a three-man camera crew, yeah, he probably would say this is not the best way to do it. But it's got me, it's landed me some jobs. I got a job with ESPN, Sirius XM, working with Underdog. So I got some things rolling right now.
Starting point is 00:45:33 All right, so it's money well spent. So tell uncle to shut the hell up, right? Yeah. You're down in Miami, go over there and tell him for me. You know what, I wanna have your uncle on. Very sad. We have your uncle on. Next, hey Pew, next time you come on, okay? And there will be a next time. want to have your uncle on. We have your uncle on. Hey, Pugh, next time you come on, okay? And there will be a next time. I want to have your uncle on and I prefer to do it live from the yard sale if possible, okay?
Starting point is 00:45:51 Done deal. Oh, I want to go shopping with him to be honest with you. I want to sell the couch for him. Yeah, do too. Yeah, how do people get your couch? I don't know. My father-in-law's handling that one. So I don't know his Facebook marketplace. I'm not giving away too many details about where I live online. There's too many crazies out there. What is the most expensive thing you've ever purchased? I mean, let's take off like house and things like that. It's been all investments.
Starting point is 00:46:16 It's been all investments in real estate. But the dumbest purchase I've ever made was when I first got drafted, I bought a black on black Range Rover, tinted the windows out. All the things you wanted to do when you're a dumb 13 14 year old. You're like if I ever get drafted, this is what I'll do. So that was that was the dumbest purchase and I sold it two years later for you know, 30 cents on the dollar. I was just reading an article. It's it's fascinating. Actually,
Starting point is 00:46:39 Scottie Pippen talking about how a Honda can get him to the same place that the Range Rover can get him. That's the way you live your life, Pew, right? I got rid of the Range Rover. I drive a Lincoln Navigator now. But I mean, all of it is about rolling the dollars back into investments at this point. So I also do real estate, and that's kind of what's going to pay the bills.
Starting point is 00:46:58 And the media is just for fun. So I can talk a little bit, have fun, talk about my yard sale with you guys, and not sweat. and talk a little bit, have fun, talk about my yard sale with you guys and not sweat. What is the best piece of business advice you could give our listeners right now? If someone shows you red flags, believe them. Like when you go on a partnership with anybody and anything in life, if you see the red flags and you think you're going to change them, they're going to all of a sudden switch up their ways.
Starting point is 00:47:23 They're not. They won't. You're going to run into the same issues down the road. And that could even go with the partner you choose to marry. That's your biggest partnership right there. So if someone shows you red flags, believe them. Believe them. Believe them. Because that's what comes back to bite you in business.
Starting point is 00:47:37 You're investing in people as much as you're investing in any widget, any investment, any real estate deal. I want to talk some football with you, if you don't mind. What do you make? Finally. I'm sweating dealing with the yard sale questions. Make me happy with some football stuff.
Starting point is 00:47:53 I know, but you're great. The yard sale stuff is fascinating. We used to do a live show. Bud Grant used to have a garage sale, may he rest in peace, at a garage sale every year. And we would have Bud on live from the garage sale and so I am thinking that we can replace your slightly younger than Bud Grant, but we can go with you now instead of Bud. What do you think like
Starting point is 00:48:12 we'll make it an annual thing. On deal. Okay. Now let's get to some football. What do you make in a lack of scoring thus far in the NFL? As a player, I hate to say it, but not playing in the preseason. Some teams have come out rusty. Some of the holdouts and hold ins have come back to bite some of those teams.
Starting point is 00:48:31 You look at the Bengals early on, the whole Jamar chase drama. We thought that when we get sorted out, it didn't the Bengals have looked rusty. The 49ers, they look great week one and week two, they come out and they're a little bit banged up and injured. Brandon Iuk had dropped some passes in week one and week two they come out and they're a little bit, banged up and injured Brandon IU could drop some passes in week one. Those things start to pop up. And then also the league is changing. Think about this, the league is cyclical. Teams build to become smaller, faster, more dynamic, throw the ball, air it out.
Starting point is 00:48:59 Now teams are getting in 13 person. Now look at the Arizona Cardinals. Those explosive plays that they ran against the Rams were in 13, which is one receiver, three tight ends. When you have smaller guys on defense, the offenses will then start getting bigger. And that's how this league moves. And that's what I think we're seeing right now. The hard balls are coming in. The Mike McDonald's up in Seattle. They want to run the ball first. Gerard Mayo has said it in New England. So we're going to start seeing a shift in the NFL. Might be getting back to a run first NFL going forward. Who's the running back is gonna have a day again?
Starting point is 00:49:30 I'm happy about that. Who is the coach that impresses you the most? That's a good question. I'm gonna have to go out and I thought the Patriots would be the worst team in football this year. And the fact that they've come out and won, they should have, you know, they very welcome to, you know, you got to give a shout out to Gerard Mayo.
Starting point is 00:49:49 Sure. Trying to replace Bill Belichick. I think that's one of the teams. And then you have to give a shout out to, I'm going to go offensive coordinator, Clint Kubiak and the saints down there in New Orleans. I think it was 14 for 14 on scores in their first four and their first through their first 14 possessions and two games. That is an astonishing statistic. So you got to go Clint Kubiak and then
Starting point is 00:50:10 I'm going to go Geron May up in New England. All right. So you're you played in Arizona. You know, Kyler Murray. It feels like he's having a coming out party. How do you see it? Because it feels like that team is on the verge of being really, really good and really, really exciting. Super exciting on offense. I'm still a little bit nervous about the defense and the depth on defense. You know, I know we have some jets fans here right now, Mike, I'm looking at you and a guy like Hassan Reddick, it can make a ton of sense to send him back to
Starting point is 00:50:38 Arizona, reunite him with Gannon. He's been in that defense. They need to continue to get depth on the defensive line. I think as long as the Arizona Cardinals are scoring, Kyla Murray is in the running for the MVP this year. Marvin Harrison topped out at 20 miles an hour, so we can stop talking about the speed. You have Trey McBride, the offensive line looks great.
Starting point is 00:50:56 James Connor is running angry as usual. Cardinals are gonna put up a lot of points. I'm nervous about the defense cuz the Rams aren't a great team right now with all the injuries they have. So let's continue to see how they progress. We don't want to get too high or too low after week two. We need Reddick though. I mean, the Jets need Reddick, don't they?
Starting point is 00:51:12 I mean, they just lost Johnson. Is that deal going to get done? I mean, I think it's like right now it's becoming like a pissing match where it's just like Russia and the United States in the eighties, like who's going to blink first. As someone who's interested in the business of sports real quick on the way out, and a former player,
Starting point is 00:51:28 are you able to kind of remove bias that we would assume that you have now that you're out of the game and see things from a team's perspective in these negotiations, or you're always gonna have like that player perspective? I'll just tell you which hat I'm wearing. But I think if you look at the jet situation,
Starting point is 00:51:42 the team screwed that whole situation up Joe Douglas I don't care if a player says yeah, I'm willing to get a deal done. If you don't have something in writing Why would you ever trade for a player making 14 million dollars when his co the guys in his cohort? Nick Bosa's making 35 million and think he's gonna be happy and just show up and play he asked for a trade from Philly So like that one I see the player side of it. From the Bengals, I can see why they wouldn't want to sign Jamar Chase to a long-term deal. He's got two years left on his contract.
Starting point is 00:52:12 So I can see the team side. At the end of the day, the fans lose out and it becomes an issue. And I will sigh with whatever makes sense. Like whatever's logical in this situation. Like Dallas, get the guy signed. You're not going to go out there and find someone that's better than CD lamb on the open market right now.
Starting point is 00:52:29 So get that deal done. It just makes too much sense. So there's there's pros and cons to both sides. I try to take a unbiased view of it as best I can. Justin, when you were negotiating those deals by yourself with the team, Joe Shane and the other teams and your agent sitting in the room with you is, was there a time where he had to say, Hey, Justin, just shut the up.
Starting point is 00:52:52 Because me and Joe Shane, we, uh, my agent had the initial framework, so I don't want to make it sound like I was coming up with the terms and the guarantees. So we have the initial framework, but when we're trying to get and there's always that, you know, middle ground where the team doesn't want to fold where the player wants to get to. And that's where I stepped in with Joe Shane. And, you know, we had a fun back and forth. My agent probably wouldn't like to tell me to shut up at times.
Starting point is 00:53:16 But at this point in my career, I was fine walking away from football after what I did on Sunday night against the Bills last year, coming straight off the couch, going out there and playing. I went out on my shield, so if my career was over, so when you go to a GM and you're like, hey, I'm walking, if you don't come back to where I want to, the team loses all their leverage. And that's what happened with me and Joe last year. We got the deal done. It was fun seeing how teams view players. And if you watch the heart knocks the Giants this this last year that's really how the Giants talk to their players. Like Joe Shane will tell me like hey Justin when's the last time you ever started 17 games in a season and then I sent him back a quick screenshot of you know I started 120 games in the NFL
Starting point is 00:54:00 10 years that's 12 a year you only have 12 games left Joe so we don't got to worry about 17 we just got to worry about 12 when I've done that. So, stuff like that. It was interesting. Listen, I could say this because he's a friend, but that Shane is a shark, okay? He's a shark, that guy. Yeah, yep, you're nodding your head.
Starting point is 00:54:16 Joe Shane does not mess around. You saw how he was talking about Saquon and how the conversation went with Saquon. Clearly, that's, if that's what they showed on air, when they're negotiating, I'm sure it was even a little more tense. And that's why Saquon's in Philadelphia right now and not in New York.
Starting point is 00:54:33 That deal, I think that deal should have gotten done, but I'm out the GM. All right, Justin, we appreciate the time. We hope to do this again. You were great. And they're a sneaky good team. They're at home taking on Stanford. That's a long trip for Stanford. I'm taking Syracuse here. They are minus eight. I am taking Syracuse to win the game by 14 points and cover at home.
Starting point is 00:55:54 Illinois at Nebraska. Nebraska is back. Illinois pretty good as well. Nebraska's an eight point favorite. By it up to eight and a half. I'm taking the Illini here. Nebraska wins. Illinois covers Nebraska by four points at home. Army to eight and a half. I'm taking the Illini here. Nebraska wins. Illinois covers Nebraska by four points at home.
Starting point is 00:56:07 Army minus six and a half. They're taking on Rice. They're six and a half point favorites. Buy it down to six. No one walks into Army's house on a Saturday and beats them. I mean, a lot of people do, but no one does. Army by 14 points at home over Rice. And of course, we here at God Bless Football.
Starting point is 00:56:27 Thank you for your service. Coastal Carolina plus four ticket on Virginia. Coastal Carolina getting four points at home. They win. They cover. They win the game outright. They win by a field goal. Louisville taking on Georgia
Starting point is 00:56:39 Tech. Louisville is an eleven point favorite. Georgia Tech scrappy. That's all I got. Louisville, buy a full point. Buy it down to 10. Louisville wins by 14 points at home. USC at Michigan, a game that should only be played at the Rose Bowl. They're playing it at the Big House. What is happening? I'm confused. Listen, when something doesn't feel right and I'm confused,
Starting point is 00:57:02 I take the favorite. I always do it. I'm 17-0 when I do it. USC minus five, I'm teasing. USC by 10 points over Michigan on the road. Oklahoma State, Utah, undefeated team, big game. Oklahoma State at home minus two and a half, they win. They cover Oklahoma State by seven points at home. Florida State, they have to win a game, right?
Starting point is 00:57:25 They have to. They're taking on Cal, who has traveled 19,000 miles in the last two weeks alone. Made up stat. I'm taking Florida State. They win their first game of the year. Florida State by six points over Cal at home. Tennessee, talented team, really good.
Starting point is 00:57:41 Minus seven, they're at Oklahoma. Big game, two undefeated teams. Oklahoma is getting seven points. Tennessee is favored by seven. I'm taking Tennessee here. The volunteers buy it down to six and a half. Tennessee wins by 10 points on the road. BYU plus six, take it on Kansas State.
Starting point is 00:58:01 Now I mean this, no one walks into Provo, Utah on a Saturday night and walks out alive. Sorry, Kansas State. Now, I mean this. No one walks into Provo, Utah on a Saturday night and walks out alive. Sorry, Kansas State. BYU. They cover, they win the game outright. BYU. By three points at home over
Starting point is 00:58:20 Kansas State. NFL, week three, three, five, and one a week ago. Eight, eight, and one. I'm the Jeff Fisher of sports gambling. Let's get to the eight, eight, and one. I'm the What a game. Chargers plus one and a half at Pittsburgh. I'm taking the Chargers here. They win. They cover the Chargers by
Starting point is 00:58:53 four points over the Steelers. Texans at Minnesota. There's no bleeping way Sam Darnold's this good and if he is, I hate the Jets. Jesus Christ. Texans minus two at Minnesota. I'm taking Houston here. The Texans win. They cover the Texans by 10 points over the Vikings. Colts minus one, taking on the Bears. I have the Colts winning and covering the Colts
Starting point is 00:59:11 by six points over Chicago. Seattle minus four and a half. Taking on the Dolphins. Buy it down to four. I'm not believing it. Skyler Thompson. No, I am not. I do believe in Geno Smith.
Starting point is 00:59:23 God, I hate the Jets. Seattle minus four. They win, they cover. Seattle by eight points over the Dolphins. Falcons, plus four, taking on Kansas City, Sunday Night Football. Falcons, not gonna win the game, but they're gonna cover. KC, wins by a field goal.
Starting point is 00:59:39 Falcons get the cover. Monday night, two games, a pair of Monday Night Football games, two Monday night football games, cutting it up. How about that? Bills minus five, taking on Jacksonville. Trevor Lawrence, enough. Bills win, they cover. Bills by 10 points at home.
Starting point is 00:59:54 Bengals minus seven, taking on Washington. Bengals need this game badly. They're going to get it. They're 0 and 2. They'll get it to 1 and 2. They're minus 7. Buy it down to 6 and 1 half. Bengals win.
Starting point is 01:00:06 They cover the Bengals by 11 points at home. Those are the picks, everyone. Good luck. TDs, Tuddies, in for 6. Starting point is 01:01:26 slash terms. Oh, there it is. There it is. There it is. Whoa. Whoa. Okay, okay. Yeah, you look better in blue than red. You're too white to wear red. So it just doesn't match well with you. Chris, I actually, I don't know why, but I get texts about you from people. And someone said, ask Chris what the hell he was wearing on Sunday Night Football this week.
Starting point is 01:02:00 A button down shirt with pants? Is that that crazy? They didn't like what you were wearing. I have noticed you don't do Jackie, you don't do Ty anymore. You're just like straight up buttoned up shirt, button down shirt with pants. They wanted to be a little more casual this year.
Starting point is 01:02:15 And you know, so I was like, sure. And they're kind of using me to be the casual guy. Like Jason Garrett and McCourty aren't cool. So they got to wear jackets, right? So they're doing that that with them and I'm liking it. We're talking about football I'm not going to the prom I'm sick of wearing ties and shit on there all the time and what I was wearing a blue button down shirt with blue slacks and some brown dress shoes like that's that crazy? I mean I saw Giorgio Armani yesterday he He was wearing the same outfit. I don't know. Great minds think alike. You tell me it is the first and only time that two of you will ever be mentioned in the
Starting point is 01:02:51 same. Yes, I will. So the power structure there at Sunday night football, like football night in America, you're the cool kid. You're the one that does the fashion trends. You, you know that come on. Of course I am. Of course. Yes. Come on. It's Jason Garrett. You know, he's square coach. It's Devin McCourty. Square safety that played for the Patriots. I'm the only one that's got a little pizzazz. So they got to dress me up like that. Yeah, I got it. So you were saying that Billy is too white to wear red. Are you saying Andy Reid looks ridiculous wearing red? Because now that I think about it, he does. Well, I mean, like, yes, when you're really, really pale white and you wear red, it's just too much of a difference at times. I do it sometimes.
Starting point is 01:03:34 And I go, Oh, this doesn't look right on me. It just doesn't. Andy now he does have the red hair. So it like blends in a little bit better. But yeah, it's not it's not a good look for Billy. He's better like blends I'm not. gone. I mean, I'm not gonna say that I'm like in love with it there. I'm not. Again, I think the team is more talented than what we've shown on the field, and we have more resources, and yet we never seem to be quite dominant. It's been a good year.
Starting point is 01:04:20 They definitely look like they're hot, and maybe we're going into the playoffs on the right played there. It looked like they're hot and maybe we're going into the playoffs, you know, on the right foot there. But no, I, I, I'm not overly impressed with, with that crew there right now anymore. No, I'm not. Okay. Yeah. Need to see you in the postseason is what you're saying. Exactly right.
Starting point is 01:04:36 That's what it comes down to. We got, we got to start winning some postseason. We got to get to a world series with the Yankees. And we went the last decade for the first decade ever of not going to a World Series game. And that's disappointing. Embarrassing. You're right.
Starting point is 01:04:51 PFT with Mike Florio, Football Night in America, the Unbuttoned podcast, college football, Notre Dame pregame. He's doing it all at CSIMS QB on Twitter. Did you get a chance last week to watch Arch? That was fun, right? It was fun. It really was. It was amazing, actually.
Starting point is 01:05:07 I mean, Texas is real, like we talked about. We know that. But I mean, one, I knew Arch was a good athlete. So I wasn't shocked by the runs. I knew that was something he could bring to the table and wow some people. The thing I did like is how he threw the football. I haven't seen an extensive, you know, throwing data yet
Starting point is 01:05:26 to really evaluate him that way. But man, he looked good. He looked real. I don't as awesome as he looked. I mean, again, I don't think we're better with him than Quinn Ewers experience matters. It was Texas, San Antonio a little bit there, but either way, if viewers can't play, I'm pretty confident that Arch can can take us where we need to go. Chris, super interesting this week. Bryce Young, the number one overall pick last year by the Carolina Panthers. He has been benched and I'm wondering if your Carolina is Bryce Young. A, can he be fixed? B, if he is fixed, will it be in
Starting point is 01:06:02 Carolina? That's a good question. I think all that's up in the air. I don't from what I've seen to this point, there's nothing that makes me think, oh wait, this could turn around or this is going to look a lot better,
Starting point is 01:06:17 right? I give them credit for benching him. I do. I think the dysfunctional thing would have been to keep letting him play because the locker room would have been like, so obviously, we're not going to try to win a game this year. Huh? I mean, by all due accounts, anybody you talk to there, anything you read, whatever it sounds like Andy Dalton outperformed him all spring and all training camp too, but he's the first pick. So they work with it. But when you watch
Starting point is 01:06:36 film, I watched the film on Tuesday morning against the chargers, the offense has lost hope. You could see it in their body language. You see it in their receivers. Its shoulders are shrugging and like, oh man, I was open. He didn't throw it. He makes no plays. There's no pizzazz to him as a person anyways. He needs this to sit on the bench, regather himself to a degree, watch Andy Dalton, take a deep breath, try to get the game slowed down
Starting point is 01:07:01 in your brain. But yeah, as you heard me say during my quarterback rankings last year, or when I was talking during the season last year, like too many games and moments where he looks totally overwhelmed. And that's what I think concerns me more than anything. Sims on Monday, I gave my top five list of biggest lies we were told in week one. And I'm curious through two weeks, what is the biggest lie you've seen so far in the NFL? Oh, that's that's a good one. Washington being in the playoffs and
Starting point is 01:07:32 leading the NFC East, I'm not buying that. No, I'm not. I mean, if you want to throw that in there, right? The defense, they should have lost last week. They were outplayed that way, right? Also, you'll hear me say I'm going to continue to stick up with the Bengals. They outplayed that way, right? Also, you'll hear me say I'm going to continue to stick up with the Bengals. They outplayed the Chiefs last week. They kind of screwed it up. The Borough fumble lost it, but I'm not going to lose confidence in that way. I mean, I don't know if this is like a lie, but I thought the Rams were playoff caliber. I'm willing to say right now it is over. The Rams are done. The year is over. Too many in their offense had to carry them through the year anyways. Now with the injuries on the old line, no Cooper Cup, no Pukka
Starting point is 01:08:09 Nakua. The defense I think wasn't going to be as good as last year anyways. I don't I think they're going to get whooped by the 49ers this week. I don't see how they turn that around there with the Rams. Those are ones that at least just jump out to me right off the bat. And if some more come to my Detroit's offensive line dominant, no, not at all. They can't run the ball effectively like they could last year. They had two big runs last week, but nothing consistent.
Starting point is 01:08:35 That bothers me. So there's a few just right off the top of my head. And if I come up with some other ones, I'll let you know, Mikey. I just like hearing you say this, especially in front of Stu Gatz. Is Sam Darnold a lie? Well Darnold? Well, to me, you know, I've been a defender of what he is. So for me, he's not a lie. No, Sam Darnold is damn good. As I said before the year, I think the
Starting point is 01:08:58 potential of that offense to be better than it was with Kirk Cousins is a very real possibility with Sam Darnold. He has more talent than a guy like Kirk Cousins, right? So we just, he's got to play, but you're seeing there's some special things about his game that he's got a little help around him. Sims real quick back to Bryce Young for a second. Cause Baker came out and he defended him and said, you know, his story is not done here. We see someone like CJ Stroud who comes in and he sets the league on fire. He's the real deal, obviously, he's great. We're only two weeks in, Caleb hasn't looked great,
Starting point is 01:09:31 Bo Nicks hasn't looked great, Jaden Daniels hasn't looked great. Then you see guys like Jordan Love, you see guys like Michael Pennex who are drafted and they're not started right away. Does it take like a special person, I guess, is there a difference when you're evaluating talent coming out of college
Starting point is 01:09:46 and you say, this is someone that's going to start right away and this is someone that has the talent but needs to kind of wait a couple of years and kind of figure it out beforehand? And is CJ Stroud, I guess, in that category, like, can he be fixed sitting behind someone else and watching and learning? Well, you can who be fixed? You mean Bryce Young? Yeah, sorry, Bryce Young. I've always maintained if you're a great quarterback, you'll make any situation great.
Starting point is 01:10:16 Meaning if CJ Straub was the guy drafted by Carolina, Carolina would still, they'd be good today. They'd be good. Like they'd be fine. They'd be fine. They'd be better. They have CJ Straoud, you know? Well, you would be hearing me defend them like I did Baker Mayfield or Sam Donalds of the world going, I see physical ability in things that I like. I see a team that's not
Starting point is 01:10:37 helping them. Right? You don't hear me saying that about Bryce Young, right? I know the team's not good, but I also don't see anything from him that goes, I go, Ooh, I see something. He just, he doesn't have help around him. That's where there's a difference, right? Drake may, to your point, Billy is a guy. I feel like, Hey, he needed to sit out. And maybe he gets the Jordan love story, you know, at some point where he gets in and he's got talent. He just, he needs a little, he got to polish his game up a little bit. I did think Caleb Williams, Bo Nix, and company, and Jayden Daniels were the type that were ready to start right away. Now, their teams are not as good as Houston was.
Starting point is 01:11:16 Let alone, I would say, C.J. Stroud got the benefit of getting Bobby Sloak and an offensive coordinator that is really special to start his career, where I'd go, Caleb, I like his talent, but they can't block up front. They can't run the ball. And their offense is elementary. I mean, I'm sitting there on Sunday night,
Starting point is 01:11:36 watching it with all the NBC cameras everywhere. I could see everything. I got Sky Cam all game. The plays are so simple. It's like nobody's going to do good in that. That's just not going to work. Jayden Daniels has been the best so far. But again, it doesn't blow you out of the water.
Starting point is 01:11:50 And I worry about them having to carry him or him having to carry them too much. Bo Nix, a little of the same thing of they can't run the ball. Who are you scared of at receiver? Right? And of course, he's played some deep messes in Seattle and Pittsburgh that are like,
Starting point is 01:12:03 I wouldn't want to start my career against those two. But I think that that's what I look at and I try to decipher and that's why I try to be that guy sometimes that goes, hey, wait, this guy's pretty good here. But just there's some things around him that don't make sense. With Bryce Young, I don't feel that way. I haven't seen enough there to make me think, hey, he'll be okay if he goes somewhere else and does something else
Starting point is 01:12:27 I don't know about that, but hopefully this time on the bench can help him out Billy Do you think someone like Mike McDaniel because a lot of people are saying with two and now out for four games on the IR We have no idea what his future is gonna be. Do you think someone like Mike McDaniel could fix Bryce Young? Yeah Well, yes, he could definitely fix them But this goes into the other part of the things you hear me say all the time. Everybody's going to look good in Miami. Everybody.
Starting point is 01:12:51 But is Bryce Young going to look good, just like I would question Tua? And I'm not trying to be insensitive here. And I hope to, you know, I never want bad things for anybody. But my thing is, just like what we saw the other night, oh, it's a defense again they got they know how to defend McDaniel's tricks and if it's not a wide open just track show okay Bryce Young I'm gonna have the same questions I have with Tua. The game gets tough you got to
Starting point is 01:13:16 throw the ball in the tight windows can he do that? I don't know if he can, I have not seen enough there yet. So he'd look better in Miami, but I mean, I would be scared to trade any real assets for Bryce Young at this point. I would wanna see more altogether. You mentioned Tua, we didn't really talk about him very much with you last week. Obviously he's out now on the IR. He's gonna be out a number of weeks.
Starting point is 01:13:41 You faced obviously a serious injury in your career that was described as life-threatening. The conversation with Tua, especially now that he's had so many concussions is, should he continue to play? Everyone has an opinion. He should retire. He should do that. When you went through your injury, are those conversations that you had? You guys are not in the exact same situation, right?
Starting point is 01:14:03 Where you ruptured your spleen, but I don't think that you've had that chronic one more hit, and you know, my life could be altered forever situation that he has. So when you went through it, did you have those conversations, like similar conversations he may be having now with his family? I didn't, you know, they brought my wife in to say bye to me, right? They didn't know if I was going to live. I lost, you know, more than three quarters of my blood.
Starting point is 01:14:26 Right? So that was it. But when I made it out of surgery and I'm OK, I did not have those conversations. I was kind of like, you know, first off, I'm a dumb meathead from New Jersey. Right? And I love football.
Starting point is 01:14:40 So there was nothing that they couldn't take me out of the game that day, even though I knew something was f**ked up. Right. And I was like, wait, I play football. This is what I do is the price of business. And I lost my spleen. I don't I can't lose it again. So I'm good in that department. You know, that that's kind of what I thought. So I didn't ever got into that type of conversation. Now, it was a long haul and a struggle for me to get healthy and get back right and all that stuff. But it never was like, oh, should I retire? This is different. You know, it is the head. It is quality of life, right? And I'm certainly not going to tell a grown man what I think he should or shouldn't do. That's up to Tua.
Starting point is 01:15:16 And it's a tough decision. And again, I know he's a competitor like me and a meathead like me to a degree, too, where he's just like, wait, I want to play. This is what I do. So that's where it's tough. It really is. But I can say, too, these type of injuries take an effect.
Starting point is 01:15:31 I see some of my old teammates in Tampa Bay. They're not all as sharp as they used to be. I can tell you that. They're not. The hits to the head, the accumulation of that, it takes its toll. And that's what you worry about. Not like next year or three years from now,
Starting point is 01:15:47 you worry about when he's 41 or 42 and what it's going to be like. And I think the biggest concern to me, and you guys probably hit on this. I didn't get to hear you guys a whole lot this week or anything like that. But the routine-ness of the tackle and the fact that he was that wobbly from that kind of hit.
Starting point is 01:16:07 Yes, to me is the scariest thing. I mean, that was he barely got hit. I mean, it was a nine hit. And he hit his arm and his neck collapsed. And, you know, of course, he hit the fencing position. Then he moved. Then he hit the fencing position for a second time. Those are the little things that I was just like kind of amazed by and you know prayers, thoughts go out to Tua. I know I've been critical of his play but I'm certainly not critical of the human being and I hope he bounces back. Yeah it's hard to be, he's a great guy. Chris, should the Dolphins because they're in win-n-ow mode with Tariq Hill, with Waddle. Should they be looking at something better than Huntley better than Skyler Thompson? I think so. I mean, I heard Ryan Tannehill last week. It'd be a crazy story for him to go back. I heard him say he only
Starting point is 01:16:54 wants to go back to a team that's a contender and a winner and I just go, man, Miami, we got a guy here that's, I mean, he's starting quarterback caliber. He's on the streets. You can get him. He played there before, right? I mean, we got a guy here that's, I mean, he's starting quarterback caliber. He's on the streets. You can get him. He played there before, right? I mean, I have seen championship game. Exactly. He's been the number one seed in the AFC.
Starting point is 01:17:13 He's been better than people want to give him credit for, right? So that's the one I look at. Now I understand they want to go, hey, this guy knows the offense. We've developed them. They want to see that. But I would seriously be thinking about somebody like Tannahill for sure. What the fuck is Nick Sirianni doing? Oh, what the is right. I mean, one, I'm, I'm conservative when it comes to all this stuff
Starting point is 01:17:36 with the go for it and all of that. First off, there's no time out. Well, it's like I use the back boxing analogy, right? When you're going for the haymaker, what happens? You leave yourself open for the haymaker every now and then, and they got it back. So Saquon Barkley's awesome player. He's got really good hands. He's still a running back. And things can go wrong on passing the ball.
Starting point is 01:17:57 Yes, to me, it's run the ball, let the time run out, kick the field goal, or run the ball, and then get it to fourth and one and run it again and then the game's over. Do something like that. So yes, that call was yes, stupid and it cost them drop tip pass, miss throw. All those things can happen on that type of play. And then I think you couple that with that's a bad play. And what's got a free pass is that was a horrible interception at the end of the game. Why did he throw that ball? They had a timeout left. They were 15
Starting point is 01:18:31 yards away from they got the best field goal kicker in the game. Like why did you just throw that up there? That was a bad mistake. That was a bad loss by the Eagles. There were some good things about the Falcons, but the Eagles should have won that game. PFT with Mike Florio, Football Night in America, the Unbuttoned podcast at CSIMS QB on Twitter. We're going to get him out of here in a second. Billy, I'm going to ask the question I know you're dying to ask. Oh.
Starting point is 01:18:56 How Sims responds. Is Trevor Lawrence good? Oh no. Oh, it's just that simple. Is he good? Yes. I do think he's good. I do. Do I think he's great? Certainly not. I'm not going to say that. Right? No, one thing I like about, I'm trying to pull up their game here. The one thing I like about Trevor Lawrence that I've seen through two weeks is a little bit more fire in his game and his personality. He is
Starting point is 01:19:24 yelling at guys and getting on guys a little bit. So there is something there to be had too. Now, hey, that's a tough defense last week. We know Cleveland, it's hard to look good all the time. And I don't love Jacksonville's offense. All right, that's my problem too. You've heard me say this last year. I do think it's a little simple.
Starting point is 01:19:43 I do think it's a little too West Coasty. I do. And that from that standpoint, yeah, I worry about them when they play defenses that are really well coached that way. But no, I don't. He is good. It's just good is where it's at right now until proven otherwise. Are you buying the Saints being this good? Yes, I am. I am buying it. Yeah. Well, okay. Here's here's the the defense has been good. Dennis Allen's a hell of a defense of mine. They got a pretty good
Starting point is 01:20:11 secondary. They might not have any stars on the defensive line, but they got a lot of good and they got a lot of depth. So that's the good thing and they got size. So the defense is going to be formidable. The offense to gots is it's my favorite thing in the NFL. If they're two weeks, I love the saints. I've said this on my podcast. I can't believe it. Derek Carr.
Starting point is 01:20:31 You know, I got on a Malatya last year for being Charlie checked down and being a little too quick to get the ball out of the pocket when the door, when the, the, the, the, uh, you know, the walls were collapsing or whatever else, but like he's different. he's more aggressive. You're seeing an offensive line that they have there that is really good, Stu gots, really good. And Kamara is still good.
Starting point is 01:20:55 And then Taysom Hill at fullback, like the Taysom Hill, Alvin Kamara combo in the backfield is every boot as good as McCaffrey and Juszczyk with the 49ers. So they're going to be able to pose some problems with people as they continue to extend this playbook with matchups and then they can run the ball and they're aggressive in the pass game.
Starting point is 01:21:15 Kubiak has brought some of that Shanahan unbelievable play action pass stuff to their game. And yes, I'd say watch out for the Saints. I got them beating the Eagles this week when the close one, cause that say watch out for the Saints. I got them beaten the Eagles this week when the close one because that Eagles defense, they scare me, they just did not look good so far in two weeks. Well, he's gonna be a head coach next year, right? Kubiak? It
Starting point is 01:21:32 seems like I mean, Kubiak, Bobby Sloak, right? Ben Johnson. Those are certainly guys that you look at to go look like they're, you know, in the driver's seat to be big time offensive, let me get them to be big time offensive. Let me get them to be our head coach type of guys next year. You're right about that. Sue gots Chris last thing for you. Um, I saw you tweet about this.
Starting point is 01:21:53 Brian Flores. What does he do against Kyle Shanahan and why aren't because he's so great. His defenses are great against that offense. And why aren't other teams copying exactly what it is that Flores is doing? It's hard. It's hard to copy the, it's like, why doesn't everybody copy Shanahan?
Starting point is 01:22:10 Well, because he's special, right? He has an ability to not only be creative, but be sound within that creativity. It's not just like, hey, we're going to blitz five guys over here, and we're just going to leave this side. Who cares? If they run a play over there? We're screwed. Oh, no, we're unlucky, right?
Starting point is 01:22:26 They don't. So he's able to be creative within being sound at the same way, not getting exposed anywhere. And then what he does for an annoying shadow hands, the ultimate codecracker, right? He breaks the matrix. He gets into a game and he starts to go, wait, they're playing me like this every time I get in
Starting point is 01:22:45 this formation or in this personnel set. Then he starts to go, okay, I got them now. They're doing this and now I've cracked the code. Watch out. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. All of a sudden you're like, it's the greatest show on turf. Holy crap. He can't do that. Again, Flores does a great job of mixing things up Flores takes away a great play caller like Shanahan who wants to call two plays in the huddle, right?
Starting point is 01:23:12 He almost has to always call a play for the all-out blitz that Flores brings, right? So Flores has always got everybody at the line of scrimmage. You've got to have a plan for that so that chops out a leg of creativity and attacking for Shanahan at times, because he's like, wait, I want to call these two plays together, but they could bring all-out blitz at any moment, so I've got to call this other one to protect us in case they do it.
Starting point is 01:23:37 And that takes away another angle of him to attack and be creative. So it's all of that. But Shanahan's had problems with three coordinators in football and they all have the same thing. It's Spagnolo, it's Flores and it's Jim Schwartz and it's unconventionality and the ability to change it up
Starting point is 01:23:57 consistently through the game to never let him get in a groove. And that's to me, the biggest thing Flores does to a lot of coordinators, but especially a great one like Shanahan. Billy, what got your smile on there? Was it the Woo, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:12 You know, Shanahan gets it going. It's just like reverse screen run up the middle, play action. Whoa, holy crap. Wide open wide open. I mean, so that's, that's what we're used to seeing. And he can't get that going with Flores, because Flores, and I say this about a lot of defenses in football, and I think a lot of them are doing this now, with some of these offenses, you can't sit back and just go, we're going to be simple and play it sound, right?
Starting point is 01:24:37 Like the Jets did against the 49ers in week one. You can't do that. You got to attack them a little bit, right? If you just play sound against the Dolphins and Mike McDaniel, he's going to figure that out and tear it apart. You got to give him some things to go, oh, I want to call this, but I'm afraid they're going to do that. I want to package these plays together, but they keep doing this and I can't do that. And that's what some of the best defense of mines in the sport are doing right now to these offenses.
Starting point is 01:25:04 All right. He's the best in the business. He's a fashion icon. Pft with Mike Floreo, football night in America, unbuttoned podcast at CSIMS QB on Twitter. We appreciate it as always. Anything for Billy on the way out here? You got anything? I mean, you know, just **** you, Billy. This episode is brought to you by New Balance Running. We had some controversy last week with some of the results, two guys. All right, well, tell the audience about it, Billy. What was it? Well, here's the thing. If you're seeing this on video, you can see the results.
Starting point is 01:26:00 You can see the results of the video. You can see the results of the video. You can see the results of the video. You can see the some of the results to guess. All right, well tell the audience about it Billy, what was it? Well here's the thing, if you're seeing this on video you can see that one Kayfunk is dressed as a king for some reason, the Burger King some are saying. And he's there just with a crown on and a cape
Starting point is 01:26:18 and he I believe in his mind is celebrating what he thinks for him was a winning week cause he went 3-1-1. And last week we discussed what we were going to do if we were going to be eliminating people or what we were going to do and we said well why don't we have the winner eliminate people and Mojo won the first week and said that he wanted to eliminate K-Funk and then there was some kind of talk, should we allow this, should we not because it wasn't on the record. Carbon thick.
Starting point is 01:26:45 Yeah, and we let things slide. So I'm trying to figure out how we handle last week. Like just last week since Keifung shouldn't have even been participating. Should his results be voided entirely because he wasn't supposed to be participating? This is spreadmaster. Yep. I think that's what we should do spreadmaster. No, I'm pretty sure that's not what's gonna Well, okay, you know what? This is a democracy here and we will leave it We will vote and we will figure this out. It is not up to you. It is not up to Billy as well Well, I also haven't decided I'm just giving potential solutions here
Starting point is 01:27:17 I'm trying to solve this issue so that moving forward we don't have these similar disputes now If we were going strictly on wins and losses last week, some would say, well, Mojo went 0-4 and won technically on the situation, and he finished last. He didn't have a win. He did have a push. What do you mean some would say he went 0-4 and won? Well, no, no. Some would say.
Starting point is 01:27:39 No, some would say. He's worse than me. He's worse than me. He's the way we find him. Well, no. Hold on a second. And I think Carl may agree to this once he hears the argument that could be made here. Some would say... He's worse than me. He's worse than me. He's the way everybody finds him. Well, no. Hold on a second. And I think Carl may agree to this once he hears the argument that could be made here.
Starting point is 01:27:50 Mojo also very clearly said on the record, his picks would just be the opposite of K-Funk's. Now Mojo didn't actually make these picks. And some could say that once K-Funk found that stipulation, he sabotaged Mojo. And he made picks that would give Mojo the worst record in an attempt to eliminate Mojo from the proceedings. Now- So Mojo really went undefeated? Potentially yes, because what Kayfunq did
Starting point is 01:28:14 was take all of the winning picks for himself when he saw that stipulation. So Mojo arguably could have actually won last week and be writing a two week win streak here. Huh, interesting. There's a lot going on here to unpack fellas. could have actually won last week and be writing a two week win streak here. Interesting. There's a lot going on here to unpack fellas. Good thing we got an attorney in the mix. Good thing we had multiple moderators.
Starting point is 01:28:36 Well Mojo hold on a second because I'm wondering if that attorney has ever defended a case saying some would say. I probably have him in the ears I probably have over the years. Trust me. Trust me. I would say if the glove don't fit, it did not fit. But some would say it did fit. I mean, it doesn't matter. Anyway, we digress.
Starting point is 01:29:00 I'm sorry. So Carl, I think Carl should make the decision on this. What do you think Billy? Can we state our claims first though? We, I feel like I should make our cases. Yeah. That's fair. Billy, there's two different questions. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:14 Is the issue, what is Mojo's record this week? Or is the issue, what is the consequence of the record, whatever we decide the record to be? That's two different things. I think that's up for the jury to decide. You know what, I'm not here to point people in any one direction or the other. In fact, I think it benefits Mojo
Starting point is 01:29:36 for this to be as messy as possible. I like messy. Okay, fair enough, fair enough. Let's do messy. You see it? K-Fuck, what do you say on your behalf? This is all I'm gonna say. This is on the record last week.
Starting point is 01:29:50 Su Gotz didn't say week one, Carl didn't pick, so week one doesn't count. Su Gotz is on the record saying that. All that being said, I already told Mojo I wasn't gonna kick him off because one, I think me and Mojo on the show make the show a lot better. So kicking Mojo off will kind of make the show sh** here. So just the fact that he had zero f**king wins, I want to hear him talk all he wants. Wow. Some say he went undefeated.
Starting point is 01:30:16 Enough with some say. Mojo, go ahead. While Mojo unfreezes, Gordord, you're at the police station. Who are you with? I'm currently with Detective Matt. The service was awful, so he was generous enough not to arrest me, and I asked him to be the first guest of the year on the show.
Starting point is 01:30:36 Are you guys okay with that? Okay, sure. Detective Matt, yes, are you kidding me? This is very exciting. Is this the first time you've been around him without cuffs on, or? you're gonna be. This is very I think to make it clean, we should probably start. Now Mojo's back in his room without a shirt on. Sorry, I think my iPad overheated listening to Kay Funk's bullshits, Phil.
Starting point is 01:31:09 I'm back now. I had to go to my phone. I think what Kay Funk was saying is that you and him make the show better, and therefore he would like you to stick around. That's all I'm saying. I agree. I agree.
Starting point is 01:31:19 Under no circumstance should there be a ruling that Kay Funk or Mojo are off the show or are not able to participate. Thank you, Carl. Now hold on a second. Does that mean that Detective Matt is up for elimination? He hasn't even participated yet. We always have a special category for special guests.
Starting point is 01:31:39 Detective Matt will probably only be one time on. If he wins, he's not gonna have the highest rating. At the same time, Mojo is a man of independent thinking. And if he chose an approach that would result in his getting screwed, so be it, he is free to exercise his free mind his way. And that is the consequences of his free choice. That is my ruling in the matter. free mind his way and that is the consequences of his free choice.
Starting point is 01:32:06 That is my ruling in the matter. And I present my case though, cause I haven't been. Yeah. Yeah. Please do. It seems like a trial. That's case trial. I think my mind changed my mind. That's my kid.
Starting point is 01:32:17 Take my mind. See the spread master has to come at this from a very honest and open perspective. Now pursuant to the rules of God Bless Football, the Spreadmaster won week one very easily, very effortlessly. We created this rule for the winner to be able to eliminate a person of their choosing. Now, the Spreadmaster did not want to kick Kay Funk off the show. All I did was I wanted to keep him on, just mute it, where he couldn't say anything. He had to listen to everything we were saying about him and not respond. So there's that. Now, a point that Billy brought up,
Starting point is 01:32:52 very astute by Billy, I would not have been in a position to pick opposite if K-Funk was sticking to the rules and not speaking on the episode. But, to Carl's point, I am willing to accept the consequences of my actions. Therefore, if both of us need to go over last week, then I am completely OK with that because questions should not have made any picks last week due to elimination. That's what I did stand on what I did. Seems fair. Now, I'd like to open up a separate claim. And this is something we call in the
Starting point is 01:33:26 wrestling world gimmick infringement. So this is essentially a lack of creativity and innovation by Creston who is essentially just dressing up like me instead of getting his own gimmick. So that's a separate claim. We can handle that at another time. But as far as I'm concerned, Spreadmaster one week one was never given his due and is willing to accept 0-4 last week as long as funk is also over. Yeah. I think that's fair. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:33:56 That's not fair, but okay. Well, I think- Let's get on to this week's pick. Hold on though, then. That means that last week's Share Bear and Gordy actually won, so the two of them may have to eliminate someone. Billy. Yes? Let's just move on from this, okay? Are we all picking here? Yeah, we're all picking. So everyone is picking this week but the rules
Starting point is 01:34:15 are in play, right? Except for Detective Matt because we don't know if we'll ever see him again. Well, we'll see what happens. Okay. Alright. I don't think the rule should ever be that one of us are not able to pick the next week. The beauty of the show is the interaction of all of the different personalities. We can make some kind of where they pick last or they always pick first or something like that. But I would not want to show where Mojo's not talking or Kay Funk is not talking. You're not talking to God. So whatever happens, we can form a punishment that everyone still make them pick first every week. Okay.
Starting point is 01:34:53 Mojo, are you okay with that? Going forward, I accept this. Okay, Kay Funk, are you okay with that? So we're all on the same page, we're family here. Carl has spoken. Okay, Share Bear, are you okay with this? I'm great with it. I'm just happy to be here. Gordon, are you okay with this? the the the
Starting point is 01:35:10 the the the the the the or workout tips? Well, I actually didn't have good Wi-Fi and the closest place that was open I saw a police station so I pulled up and this is truly the first time we have ever met. Wait, come on. Get out of here. Gord, what are you talking about? This is the first time me and him have ever met. I swear to God in my life. I can't make this up. I'm
Starting point is 01:35:41 sitting where they actually make the announcements of big arrest. Right here in the center. He's arrested you at least three times. How many times? He's arrested you at least three times. Gord just doesn't remember this. Wait, hold on, hold on. Detective Matt, how did this happen? Did Gord just knock on the door and ask you to do this?
Starting point is 01:36:00 What's going on over there? Well, they called me and said there's this really tall guy in the lobby, can you come take care of him? And he's like, hey, I just need to get on your Wi-Fi real quick. I was like, yeah, all right, man. What can you give me for free? So we're going to make a deal when this is over.
Starting point is 01:36:16 OK. So Gord, what are you going to give him, Gord? I mean, I'm going to check out the fitness center and see if Grog Fitness can help supply some quality fitness equipment for the police officers here in Maine and foul minutes. I heard it was kettlebells. Detective matter. You a, a fan of a particular football team, just out of curiosity. Well, actually I'm a giants fan by, uh, by, by, by family.
Starting point is 01:36:43 Uh, but, uh, you up here in New England, you can't say that out loud. They get a little upset about that. So I have to kind of be quiet and wear neutral colors. It's like being a rival gang member. Right, I mean, tell them to get over it. They've won enough. Do you suspect they're a room? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:36:59 Right. Have you arrested a Patriot fan just because they're a Patriot fan? Every Super Bowl. Every Super Bowl. Nice. All right. the the the the the the the
Starting point is 01:37:39 the the the to K fuck. K fuck. Can you take it here? I like the Texans also. Um, what the hell? So give me the two and a half. What did you, did you take off your king stuff when it was time to make the you know what? Mojo, I didn't want to, there's something to unpack there just so we're all symbolism potentially things like that. The good news is he's only drinking water this week though. Mojo. I mean, I think it's some Smirnoff in that bottle, right? the Texas at Vikings. Carl Douglas, who you taking? I'm a big fan of CJ. Let's go to the Texans. Alright. Uh Share Bear, who you taking here? Well, it's just so funny. I took a 6 AM flight today to Minnesota to play a little pickleball with my good
Starting point is 01:38:33 buddy, Chris Humphreys. So, I'm sitting here in uh Lifetime Fitness in Minnesota. So, I'm going with the Vikings, baby. Alright. Did you beat Humphreys or what? I always beat up on him a little bit but he's good, man. Six foot ten. He's got some length. Alright, well, get him on the show next week, the Well, I'll go Texans. All right, taking the Texans. Gordy, I hope you know what to do here, Gord. Come on, Texans at Vikings. Sam Darnold, comeback player of the year for the season ended today.
Starting point is 01:39:10 Who you digging? You know what? I was in, I had one of the best times in Houston, partying with DJ Blau for the Super Bowl that my brother was in and not. So I just loved that city. And when I went to Minnesota, it was minus 18 degrees. So I'm love that city and when I went to Minnesota it was minus 18 degrees. So I'm going I'm going I gotta go Houston. All right taking Houston. Actually we have
Starting point is 01:39:30 some good stories to tell about that Super Bowl Gordon. I know we do. We do. I don't know if we can tell them but maybe a couple. Do you want to tell one now? I mean feel free. There's like we got we're gonna need more time for that one. Are you eating Mojo? Yeah. I got another meeting in seven minutes. So let's get, let's get to the pigs, get you out of here. And then next week I want to have three stories from that Superbowl. If you can, I might have a guest next week to get you and share bear and Gordy with the tech.
Starting point is 01:39:57 So everyone, but bunk is delivering guests. Got it. Yes, of course. Uh, detective Matt, I'm starting with you here. Lions at Cardinals, Cardinals are plus two and a half at home, who are you taking? You know what, let's go with the Lions, why not? Go Lions, Gordy, who are you taking here?
Starting point is 01:40:15 Kyle Murray, MVP right now, I gotta go with him. He's healthy right now, early on, he plays well. Okay, Share Bear, Lions at Cardinals, Cardinals plus two and a half. You know, I always hear about these old stories from front house East College slip and slide party. So I'm going with Arizona. I'm going Arizona Okay, okay. Fuck. Are you taking? Us this is probably the toughest game for me. I'm gonna go Lions. Okay, mojo You know, this whole opposite thing is really complicating picks every week. At this point,
Starting point is 01:40:46 I don't even know how to handle it. You know, it's maybe there's a rule like at least 50% of our picks have to be different because if I go 100% opposite, this is kind of a problem at some point. So I would tell you just to take who you like. Mojo. We'll worry about the rest later. That being said, I'm taking the Cardinals to go opposite funk. Wait for me. I can take you. All right, Carl Douglas, who you taking, sir?
Starting point is 01:41:13 Give me the lions. Give me the lions. I like K-Fam. Carl gets right to it. Mojo, I wanted to get to Gord. Did I get to you? Yeah, I went with Arizona. My bad.
Starting point is 01:41:22 Because of all the slip and slide parties that we used to have there. That's right. I'm sorry. Right. I forgot my bad. My apologies, Gord. Oh, and went with Arizona. My bad. Because of all the slip and slide parties that we used to have. That's right, I'm sorry. Right, I forgot my bad. My apologies, Gord. Oh, and one other thing. And I played minor league baseball for the LA Angels in Phoenix for spring training. So of course, I just wanted to remind you that I used to be a pro baseball player in
Starting point is 01:41:37 the minor league. Nice. Thank you for the reminder. Mojo, go to you. Chiefs and Falcons. Chiefs undefeated Falcons coming off a big victory. They needed that. They're plus the best in the game. The Kansas city chiefs were taking the refs. All right. Kayfunk go ahead. Yeah. Give me, um, give
Starting point is 01:42:01 me the Falcons. I took the Falcons last week and I'm going to take them again this week. All right. Call Douglas. Who you taking? As I said last week, every week I'm taking the chiefs. You're right. You're right. You're right. I'm sorry about that. Share bear Kansas city at Atlanta, Atlanta plus three and a half. Who you got? Well, even though, you know, supposedly K functions unofficial last week, he still, he still knows what he's talking about. So I'm going to go with, I'm going to go a funk here with the Falcons. All right, Gordy, who you
Starting point is 01:42:27 taking? Casey did not cover the spread last week. I am going with Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs. Okay, Detective Matt, who should have better, more important things to do than this. But anyway, they're taking it. 10% of the shit that Taylor Swift says, so I'll also take the Chiefs. All right, Detective Matt, if you get a call during this segment where you have to go out and do your job, are you gonna take it?
Starting point is 01:42:53 Feel free, feel free. Yeah, just bring us with you. Yeah, take us with you. I'm drastically wrong. Yeah, Detective, also, if you spend too much time with Gore, the odds of you losing your job are almost 100%. Yeah. Or maybe greater. Yeah, but he'll get a pay rate somewhere else. You know what? But we'll have a great attorney who can represent you in a suit against the people that fired you.
Starting point is 01:43:12 How about that? You can always come to God bless football, big salaries over here. You'll be good to go. I like good cops. I love good cups. All right, let's go to the next. His gun is literally right there. Okay. Don't say anything crazy. I don't want a good shot. I don't sue good cops. I don't sue good cops. Oh
Starting point is 01:43:37 god. Let's go on Jaguars at Bills. Bills minus five. Detective Matt, I'm going to start with you. Bills minus five at home against Jacksonville. Well, I think I'll probably get rolled if I don't go with the Bills, considering I'm sitting next to Gordy. So we're going to go with Bills.
Starting point is 01:43:52 Okay, Gordy, should we assume Bills here? Yeah, I went opposite the Bills and covered the first week, but they still won. They didn't cover the spread. Dude, we got to go Buffalo. Glenn Gronkowski's first ever game was with the Bills, all right? Did anyone remember that no cuz he sucked oh and that's why he got fired that day he's not on the team anymore he still wants
Starting point is 01:44:13 disability though Glenn Gronkowski he won disability claim that's because of the guy right there on the other side of the phone they're so proud of himself share better you take it here you know there was once there's probably the best athlete on this whole phone call once was in Jacksonville. I'm surprised he doesn't want to go there. Yeah, he was in Buffalo too, but Gordy Gronkowski, Jacksonville, college, baseball, slugger. I'm going with the Jags. All right, taking the Jags. Bojo, who you got? Goodness gracious. Well, I was going to say the Bills because of their Zubas,
Starting point is 01:44:43 because of their wrestling moves. But then Sherry started talking about Gord being the best athlete in the zoom right now. So I mean, as if I couldn't have more reasons to pick the bills this week. What a joke. That's fired by Ryan Sherry. Hey, funk might get a break next week because I'm going to be all up in Jerry's ass, filled all day.

We also gained some valuable information there because Ryan Sherry has not only skipped one workout today, but multiple workouts today and then has the audacity to name best athlete in the chat. Starting point is 01:50:33 Ah, it's that time of year again. The season we all love the most. Football season. I remember a time when you would go out to tailgate and all you needed was some charcoal, a grill, and a nice cold Miller Lite. Lots changed over the years. You know, one thing that hasn't? The great taste of Miller Lite. Here's another thing that hasn't changed is that it's less filling. So what's the best part about the original light beer? Miller Lite sparked this debate in 1975 and we still haven't settled it. Used to be able to just go enjoy a Miller Lite. Now you have to pack all these things, chairs, electric grill, this, and here's an outdoor bathroom that you can go in,
Starting point is 01:51:10 and there's a tent around it. How about a nice old tree with a Miller Lite in one hand? You don't have to choose what's best. Miller Lite has great taste and is less filling. Tastes like Miller time. To get Miller Lite delivered right to your door, visit MillerLite.com slash GBF. Or you can find it pretty much anywhere that sells beer.
Starting point is 01:51:26 Celebrate responsibly. Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 96 calories per 12 ounces. Fewer cows and calves than premium regular beer.
