God bless football, Mikey.
God bless football, Mike Golic.
God bless football in the draft and Aaron
Rogers to God's got you know what Mike I am so far removed from sports but I have
no idea what Aaron Rogers said I know the draft is coming up next week I know
it's time for jet fans to hope it's the only time of the year we have to hope
but I have no idea earthly idea with Aaron said. I know he said he has not decided
on whether or not he's coming back.
Did he take some shots at the Jets?
Yes, in particular Aaron Glenn.
He said that what he thought was going to be
a lengthy meeting that he flew cross country,
quote, on his dime was a 15 minute meeting
and 20 seconds in Aaron Glenn ran
out of the room got Darren Moog he came back interrupted Aaron Rodgers mid
sentence and said we're going in a different direction a quarterback Wow
and the part that stood out to me was he said well why and he said because when
I'm talking at the front of the room I don't want to have guys looking at the back of the room
to see what you're doing.
Yeah, he said that.
And he said, Aaron was like, you don't know me.
And Aaron Glenn said, well, you don't know me.
And Aaron Rodgers said, well, that's exactly right.
That's why I'm here.
To try and get to know you.
Yeah, supposedly Aaron was talking to the GM
and then Aaron Glenn interrupted him 20 seconds in
and said, do you wanna play football?
And Aaron Rodgers said, yeah, I'm interested.
And then Aaron Glenn said,
well, we're going in a different direction.
20 seconds in.
So to what Aaron Rodgers thought
were gonna be a long meeting,
it turned out to be 15 minutes.
And yeah, they were gonna move on.
That's old news.
I mean, the new news is what's Aaron Rodgers going to do?
Is he waiting to see if Minnesota will want him?
If their quarterback is not back from his knee injury, JJ McCarthy, and how he's looking,
though JJ McCarthy hurt his knee in preseason last year, so he's had a long time to recover,
he should be fine.
And they're going to want to go with him.
It sounds like he just wants to be with a team that's going to compete for the championship.
And I don't know if he thinks Pittsburgh
is gonna be that team being in the same division
with Baltimore, Cincinnati to an extent,
though Cincinnati has to really work on their defense.
Cleveland is really out of the equation.
So, I mean, he probably has, I would imagine,
Aaron Rodgers until the draft,
unless Pittsburgh takes a quarterback in the draft,
but they don't want to start him right away.
If it's a Jackson Dart from Ole Miss,
if it's a Chudor or Sanders, if he drops that far,
if they don't want to start him, do they bring,
you know, do they still sign Aaron Rodgers
if he wants to sign?
Mikey, why'd you shake your head
when I said I love Aaron Glenn?
You're upset with Aaron Glenn?
I thought it was a really bad look to say you want to get rid of somebody because
The the team might be looking to him for some guidance
I thought that's a really it sounds like you were scared you were scared that
There was another leader in the locker room who might undermine your who and mind you might
locker room who might undermine your who and mind you might undermine your message. Now think about the message that it would send if all the guys turned to look at Aaron
Rodgers and he was intently listening to Aaron Glenn. What message does that send?
That's a good message. But what Aaron Glenn might correct me if I'm wrong here Aaron
Glenn is simply trying to stamp this team. He's the new head coach and he wants to get rid of
as much of what was happening over the last two years as possible. What was happening over the
last two years was Aaron Rodgers. Whether he was playing or not, that was the story around the
Jets and Aaron Glenn said, no, you're the story no longer. It's just in fields. He said the thing
out loud is what Aaron Glenn did. Correct. That worrying about not really on the field with Aaron Rogers, but off the field with
Aaron Rogers.
And Aaron Glenn is a first-time head coach.
The last thing in the world he wants is the team looking at someone else or a player having
supposedly, even though Aaron Rogers dismisses it, having as much power or influence as Aaron Rodgers
can exert if he wants,
or can just make a situation bad.
So I think this was the right move.
Listen, Aaron Rodgers could probably
have a good year this year.
The Jets aren't going to the championship.
They're not.
So you have a young quarterback in Justin Fields, you can bring along and see how he does. If
not, you go into the draft next year, but they're not going to
win the championship this year. So why have the potential of
new head coach, 21-year vet, walk-in Hall of Famer, who, you
know, carries some weight on the roster.
So this doesn't surprise me at all.
We can talk about the process, you know,
and say the process wasn't the greatest in the world,
but it's not surprising that Aaron Rodgers is not on the jet.
It's the reason that you do it is because your other option
is a quarterback who has never won a game
when his defense gave up 21 points.
And I'm talking about Justin Fields.
And the other part about it that is bothersome to me
is it sounds like Glenn is trying to be Bill Parcells.
And Bill Parcells would come in
and Bill Parcells had the cache and the respect
to come in and say, I don't need you on my team
because it's what I do.
We're gonna do it my way.
Aaron Glenn hasn't earned that.
He hasn't developed that.
And frankly, I think he's probably lost
part of the locker room because Rogers was very
well respected and very well regarded in that locker room.
And to hear that this is how it went down,
there's guys that are gonna be now looking at Glenn
in a different way.
Yeah, but I understand the new head coach
not wanting a quarterback with that kind of stature
in his locker room, just at the start,
at the beginning of his head coaching career.
I actually get that.
You might spot it as a weakness in Aaron Glenn.
He should be strong enough to be able to tell the locker room,
hey, I'm the boss. I don't care if Aaron Rodgers is here, but Mike,
I actually like it because imagine this, if Aaron Glenn could turn Justin Fields
into someone that no one's been able to turn Justin Fields into, then Aaron
Glenn comes off looking really, really good. You have Aaron Rodgers, you have
expectations. Now you might say, hey, my coach is afraid of expectations. Well,
yeah, he's the head coach.
I mean, that's what we have.
Yeah. And if you miss with Justin Fields, it's not the biggest miss in the world.
It doesn't cost you a lot of money.
But if you hit with Justin Fields, forget it, Mike.
Hey, exactly.
Well, again, maybe it's the process we didn't like.
Maybe Aaron Glenn could have called him and said, listen, I'm the new head coach.
We're starting fresh here.
I'm just going to start over at the position.
But yeah, it happened.
So we move on.
I can't believe Mike Ye wanted another season of Aaron Rogers.
I cannot fathom that, to be honest with you.
I didn't want a season of Justin Fields,
is I think really what I wanted.
I would have been very OK with a season of Tyrod Taylor.
I would have been very OK with a season of Tyrod Taylor. I would have been very okay with a season of Tyrod Taylor.
I'm still in the Justin Fields bandwagon.
I still think he can become a good quarterback.
So we'll see.
We'll see.
Is that his third team?
Right.
Mike, I hope you're right.
I hope you're right, Mike.
I would love to be wrong about this.
It would make me happy to be wrong.
There's a lot of first round reclamation projects out there
that are floating around the league
that some are hitting and some are not.
Mike, can I ask you a question?
If you're the Vikings,
I understand you're committed to JJ McCarthy.
You drafted him in the first round two years ago.
He got hurt.
He didn't play last year.
But if you're the Vikings
and you're in this little Super Bowl window,
because I believe that they are, right?
And you have these great wide receivers, wouldn't you just try Aaron Rodgers out for a year? Like, can't you talk to JJ McCarthy
and say, we're going for it right now, this year with this team, that's why we're bringing in Aaron?
Yeah, I mean, I could see the thought process. You know, Detroit lost all the players and coaches
that they lost. Chicago got better, but they're still not going to be a threat to the playoffs Green Bay quietly could be the best team in that division quite honestly. But yeah when you're as
close as you are because the NFC is not as deep as the AFC it's basically Philadelphia and then
where do you go it used to be San Francisco but it's really not that anymore. So yeah there is
part of me you know that says because I do think Aaron could have a pretty good year, especially with the weapons that they have, and they really help McCarthy right now. It's the off season, nobody's got pads on,
everybody's throwing in t-shirts and shorts.
So you really haven't even started the OTAs yet.
So it's just gonna be if his knee is structurally sound,
it seems like they're making him the starter
when I could definitely see Aaron waiting
because he doesn't have to play.
But normally if you wanna to play, you want to play. Right.
It's, it's not like I only want to play for a certain team.
And if not, I want to retire. Then you're just sitting there, you know,
still wanting to play, you know, waiting for an injury, you know,
maybe that's one of the next things he'll do is wait for an injury to a
contending team and then come in and sign. He may,
he may put his eggs in that basket as well. This episode of God Bless Football is brought to you by DraftKings.
DraftKings, the crown is yours.
Mikey A has a question for Golic here about the draft.
I'm just thinking though, if you're the Vikings, like you have to,
and the fan base, you know they want Aaron Rodgers.
I don't care what anyone tells me.
Aaron Rodgers for this season and this season alone
might be different two seasons from now,
three seasons from now,
but right now the last 10 games I saw Aaron play,
he gives the Vikings the best chance
of winning a Super Bowl this year.
Not saying they're gonna win a Super Bowl,
but he give them a better chance than JJ McCarthy.
The draft is coming up next week.
We're gonna be in, where are we going, Mikey?
Nashville?
Nashville, we're gonna be there for the number one pick
and we have no idea
who it could be at this point right okay we got no idea okay yeah you have draft questions for
Golic though I know you do well my first question is how does Mike Golic spend the draft like
Mike are you watching all seven rounds are you watching all the picks or are you like
first 10 I'm out well first round and I'm out?
What is it?
Well, this will be the first year in a couple of decades.
I'm actually not physically working the draft.
So I'll keep an eye on it basically.
The first round really, which is Thursday, Friday,
you know, the second and third round
and then finishes up Saturday.
I'll keep an eye on it because I'll have to talk about it, you know, within the job after the draft.
But, you know, I will basically pay attention to the first round.
And those are all the names that just keep getting recycled, right?
And those are the ones you need to hit on.
But it's really the guys in in the third fourth fifth sixth seventh round
Where you find the gems, you know, there's gonna be an all-pro in that group by some team and that's just gonna be good scouting
You know
Predicting what somebody will do from the college level to the next level. That's where you hit the draft
You're number one your first round picks supposed to hit we know they don't always hit but it's the later part of the draft. Your number one, your first round picks supposed to hit, we know they don't always hit, but it's the later part of the draft. It's amazing, you get the first round to when you can get them,
but second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, if a guy is a second round talent, you try and get
them as late as you can, maybe in the third round. If a guy's a third round talent, you try and get
them in the fourth round. That's when the games kind of start to happen with the teams. Right.
So will you be gorging yourself because this
is the first draft?
Just for the first round.
I understand what you're saying.
And I'm the same way, by the way.
Like the middle rounds, it's just
on the scroll underneath my television.
Yeah.
I'm not really, if I see a name, perhaps I'll
get excited about it.
Right.
But what are you going to do at home?
Like how is this going to work for Mike Golick?
Mike Golick watching?
I want to go to Golick's house to watch the first round of the draft.
Mike, this will be fun.
Well, I mean, the first thing is I'll be in Arizona.
So it'll be earlier.
Oh, you're so lucky.
Yeah, that's so.
I'll be able to be around dinner time,
snacks on the couch, you know, hanging out.
Maybe even my, all the grandkids are here right now,
but by then just the one granddaughter will be here.
Alex, maybe I'll have her by,
maybe I'll be playing, reading her books
while I'm watching the draft.
That's probably what will happen.
So nice, so nice.
I am telling you, there's a producer
who was on this Zoom call right now
who's gonna be peppering you after every pick
to get some analysis,
because he's gonna be in Nashville, Tennessee
See what the Titans are gonna do and that person is Mikey a
Listen they're going cam ward obviously
I think you know as far as the first round in the first couple of picks the interesting part is going to be Cleveland in New
York because that's where the expectation of you Hunter and Abdul Carter are going to be.
You look at Cleveland, so Cleveland has a second pick.
They have their choice of Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter.
Would you want to have Abdul Carter to put on the other side of Miles Garrett or do you
want the two-way player in Travis Hunter?
If they take Travis Hunter, do the Giants take that dual card?
Remember, they have Dibbido and they have Brian Burns as edge rushers.
But he may just be someone you can't pass up.
Just too much of a talent to pass up.
And then you go to the Patriots, they're going to probably go old line.
Jacksonville is probably going to go D-line.
Vegas, everybody says Ashton Gentry for Vegas, but what's the sense in
having Ashton Gentry if you don't have an O line? And this is a pretty running back,
deep draft. I think they should go O line and solidify that O line. Obviously, the name
in the first round is going to be Shadour Sanders. Does he drop? And if he drops, how
far does he drop? Does he go in the top three? If
not, does he go to the Raiders at six? They just signed Geno Smith to an extension. Does he go to
the Saints at nine, where Derek Carr has a shoulder issue and may be out for the year? If he doesn't,
from nine on, none of those teams need a quarterback until 21 in Pittsburgh. And then
does Pittsburgh take Chidurah Sanders?
Chidurah Sanders, there's always one in every draft
that is kind of the wild card.
And this year Chidurah Sanders is that wild card.
Where do you think he's gonna go, Mike?
I think the Giants are probably gonna take
Chidurah Sanders, that would be my guess.
I, at three, man, I don't know.
I don't know.
I mean, they brought in what Russell Wilson.
I know Russell Wilson is not going to be there obviously forever.
I keep saying this when I do the show with Mike.
I say this all the way back because I'll never forget Ron Jaworski.
When Ryan Tannehill got drafted, I think six or seven by Miami.
Yeah.
Right.
And everybody was like, and when Daniel Jones got picked, I think, what, six by the Giants.
Yes.
We were all like, what the hell?
And I remember Ron Jaworski saying, doesn't matter what we think, doesn't matter what
the world thinks, it only matters what the grade of the team that's picking has on that
quarterback.
If they have a franchise grade, then you take them.
You do whatever you have to do to get that quarterback.
Now they were wrong on Ryan Tonahill and they were wrong on Daniel Jones, but I get the
thought process. Then it comes down to your scouts, your, you know, whoever is making
the selection are making the mistakes. But if you have a franchise grade on Chedur Sanders,
then yeah, you take them third with the Giants, you know,
because they'll need a franchise quarterback at some point. So all of us talk about where he's
going to go. I don't know what grade the Giants have on him. I don't know what grade. Again,
I don't think the Raiders and Sinogino to the extension are going to do it. It seems like if
it's not the Giants, it's going to be New Orleans or Pittsburgh.
I will say that Joe Shane, the general manager who's a friend of the show who has been on this show several times,
the GM of the New York Giants, he is the guy who moved up to get Josh Allen. Like he had a franchise grade
on Josh Allen and he went and got that guy and it's why in March for he got the job
with the New York Giants and I'm only saying that to say Mike if they take Jadur Sanders,
Joe Shane thinks he's a franchise quarterback. Well without question, you don't take, I mean look at the, we talk about the mistakes made
of Ryan Tanahal, Daniel Jones, go back to Trey Lance when the 49ers traded up
for it and the only reason they just didn't get stoned to death is because
Brock Purdy worked out for him in the seventh round, right? But that was a horrible trade to go up and get Trey Lance.
So, but again, that was their grade on him.
And if you're right, if Shane and the Giants staff,
whoever puts the grades together,
have a franchise grade for Jishadur Sanders, you take them.
If you don't, then you don't take them.
You don't take, you don't, now the quarterback position is the most overreach position,
but what you don't want to get into a position
of taking someone and hoping
they become a franchise quarterback,
not that we have a franchise quarterback grade,
grade on this guy, we're taking them.
Right.
Mike, you mentioned the quarterbacks
and this draft is so much different
than I think we've seen in the past few years
where after Cam Ward at one,
it seems like there's any number of guys
that can go anywhere from middle of the first round
to the fourth and fifth round.
You know, guys like Jackson, Dart, Jaylen.
I mean, there's people arguing Jaylen Milrow
is a fourth rounder
and people arguing he's a first rounder.
Yeah.
And I don't think we've seen
such a dichotomy of quarterbacks.
How many do you think are gonna go early?
Well, I think the top five quarterbacks
in whatever order you want are Cam Ward,
Chidur Sanders, Jackson Dart, Tyler Shuck,
who has transferred everywhere and ended up at Louisville,
and Jalen Milro. So it's now there are some teams that like to trade into the back half of the first
round and grab a quarterback. Why? Because they get a fifth year option, right? You score into
the second round, it's four years, no club option. That fifth year is a club option. So you
have a guy for an extra year, especially if he pans out for you. So I think that at least three
quarterbacks will go in the first round. And it all depends on where Shadour goes. If Shadour goes
to the Giants, I think Jackson Dart has a good chance of going,
or Shadour goes to New Orleans, I don't think the Giants are going to take him. If Shadour goes to New Orleans, then I think Jackson Dart has a good chance of going to
Pittsburgh. After that, teams don't really need a quarterback unless they jump into the back half,
the back part of that round, even though Pittsburgh's 21, that's in the 20s.
But I think it's then a choice of Tyler Shuck and Jalen Milrow. Then it goes to what offense you run
do you install or that you have that has a quarterback running involved in running plays
which Jalen Milrow can do. Guy's an unbelievable athlete but he has throwing issues. He has all
the confidence that we had him on the show Mike and I down throwing issues. He has all the confidence that we had him on the
show, Mike and I, down at the Super Bowl, has all the confidence in the world. I loved his answer about
this and a hand size this and that. He's like, I can throw the football. I mean, he's got confidence
in himself, which all these guys should have confidence in themselves. But those are the five.
I think three at the most, three at the most will go in
the first round if three go. Mike, I want to ask you about Travis Hunter. We'll get you out of here
just a second. But I think this giant decision is so fascinating because you have a coach and a GM
whose jobs are on the line, right? And you ask yourself, are they going to reach and take Shador
Sanders because they want to show the fan base and they want to show management if he works out,
hey, look, we have our quarterback, he's here,
he's here for the future and we took him.
Or do you go ahead, move forward without him
with Russell Wilson and put all your eggs
in a Russell Wilson basket?
The problem with drafting Shador
is you're going to start Russell Wilson.
I know.
Right?
You're going to start Russell Wilson.
So why would you draft Shador if you're Shane or Dayball? I mean, if you lose with Russell Wilson,
you're going to be gone. Somebody else is going to be coaching Shador. How many times have we seen
a team take a quarterback and then that coaching staff is gone the next year and someone else is coaching the quarterback, right?
So I I think they're gonna unless unless they draft Shador and say we're playing him
We're playing him or we're getting through his growing pains
Then if he starts to look good, then Dave all in chain can say look we're building something here
But if he doesn't and Russell Wilson doesn't and they're not winning, which the expectation is they're not going to and not just
because of the quarterback but the surrounding pieces as well, then that staff
unfortunately is going to have a tough time hanging around. I
definitely think Cleveland and the Giants go Travis Hunter and at dual-carter depending on on the order again because Travis Hunter
I mean, it's just just an incredible both are just incredible athletes. No one would ever
accuse you of nepotism but what is Deion Sanders doing with Shador Sanders in his
jersey like what is he doing I mean I understand trying to do good by your
son but are you kidding me he was 13 and 11 as the Colorado quarterback get out
of here. Yeah yeah I think it's based more off that he's going to be a first round pick.
Travis Hunter was the Heisman Trophy winner.
Right.
Does seem a little odd, but you know what?
The end of the day, I don't care.
It doesn't affect me.
You know what?
It's not like I'll ever walk through the Colorado Hall of Fame to look at their jersey.
I get upset about it, right?
Yeah.
I mean, listen, they were an incredible spark.
They were in position this year to be in position to win the Big 12. It obviously didn't happen. jersey. So I get upset about it, right? Yeah. I mean, listen, they were an incredible spark.
They were in position this year to be in position to win the big 12.
It obviously didn't happen.
It does seem odd.
But what do I care?
Joel Klatt had a better record.
Joel Klatt.
I mean, come on.
And his jersey is not in the rafters.
You're right. And that's my point.
Mikey, hold on. If Gullick was the head coach in some weird, strange world, if Golic was the head coach of Notre Dame when Junior was playing, do you think Junior's number would be in the Raptors right now? Not a chance. Golic would make him earn it.
Don't get me wrong. He's probably the offensive coordinator his first year out because that's,
you know, that's right. Golic's, you, take on that. But he's not retiring the jersey.
Yeah, not hanging the jersey from the rafter.
Probably not.
And I think the person that would understand that the most
would be Mike.
Right, right.
He wouldn't want it.
Right, exactly.
Exactly.
Would he be the OC though?
Is Mike EA right?
Would he be your OC?
Well, I don't think he'd start right out as the OC,
but I'd definitely put him on the staff
if he wanted to go into coaching. You can always find a place on the staff for someone starting out and then build up. Absolutely.
Oh, that's so good. Are you going to make him work his way up the ladder, huh? Teach him some lessons?
Oh, hell yeah. I got to continue to try and have power over him while I can because now that we're working together in the media, I don't have power over him anymore.
He's got the power over you.
Yeah, exactly.
Quickly, Travis Hunter, what do you do with the fact
that he wants to play both ways?
He's threatening not to play football if he doesn't.
Well, that's ridiculous.
He's not gonna not play football.
I mean, some of the comments by some of the draftees,
potential draftees, just blow my mind.
I don't understand why you have to talk such a tough game.
You're gonna be a high pick. You're going to let your play do the talking. Everybody knows he's
going to play both ways, but playing both ways in the NFL means the majority of the time is on
defense. They're not going to make them a one-way player, but you're going to play the majority of
time at corner, at slack corner, probably a corner, and then you not going to make them a one-way player, but you're going to play you're going to play the majority of time a corner It's slack corner
Probably a corner and then you're going to supplement on the offensive side of the ball where you can fit in and out
But I have no doubt listen the guy played a hundred hundred twenty hundred and thirty plays in college. It seems
Incomprehensible that he can do that in the nfl with the step up in talent
And and pressure and everything
But he's proven he could go a long way. So
Obviously you have the risk of injury as well when you have them on the field that long
But man, I mean I I play them on defense and supplement them on offense and let them use his talent
Uh, mike if you did if you were drafting and you had the number one pick you didn't need a position
You didn't need a quarterback. Who's the best player in this draft?
The best player is either Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter.
Now Travis Hunter can offer you more by playing both ways.
Abdul Carter obviously was his first year down as an edge guy.
He's just an unbelievable athlete, unbelievable.
Chasing from the backside, his moves, his quickness off the ball,
his drop his shoulder and his dip move is incredible. They're the two best players in
this draft without question. The guy that kind of jumped up a little bit on the O-line is Armand
Membou out of Missouri. And I don't mean that just because of the combine, because you know how I feel
about the combine. But what it did is it made teams go back and watch him on tape and just what an incredibly fluid athlete
that he is so I think he's going to be the first old lineman taken but as far as best parent in the
draft it's Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter, pick the order and then everybody else. All right Mike we
appreciate it. Mike's going to run to the dentist here. I hate going to the dentist
I can't like you have to drag me to the dentist
Oh, you know the dentist I had in Connecticut when I was at ESPN was the nicest guy in the world
He had soft hands. It never nothing really ever hurt, but I hated him
I hate I hate the thought of going to the dentist. I hate it
Never I'll never enjoy it. But he had soft hands really? Oh yeah he had very
very soft hands. Very soft. Yeah I prefer soft hands with my dentists as well. Oh yeah you don't
want them in there rough you know. So does your wife have to throw you in the car right now and
force you to the dentist like you're a kid? Like what is happening here? Trick you like you're a
dog. We're going to the dog park and you go to the park. Are you now are you someone are you someone who in the last week knowing you had this appointment started to floss?
You know, yeah, I make yourself better. And here's the other thing
There's always the big brush right before you go to the dead. Yes
The big brush you brush your teeth in a way
You've never brushed your teeth before and it does nothing for you
And you go into the cleaning and the person cleaning your teeth
sees you bleeding at the gums already knowing you just
scraped them.
You know what?
Nothing's ever good enough for that person
that cleans your teeth before the dentist.
You could floss every day, brush three times a day.
Oh, the oral hygienist?
Oh, yeah.
Nothing's good.
And nothing is ever good enough for them.
That's right.
They're like, your teeth are filthy.
Right. Sorry.
Or they'll give you a comment with a but
and how you can improve.
And I'll see you in two weeks.
And they're trying to hurt you.
Those oral hygienists are trying to hurt you.
Yes.
My wife actually loves getting her teeth cleaned.
She loves getting them scraped
and the feeling of that.
What?
She's an alien.
I don't know how she enjoys that.
Unbelievable. No one enjoys that. No. She's an alien. I don't know how she enjoys that. Unbelievable.
No one enjoys that. No, she does for some reason. I don't know why. I don't enjoy the
sound of that. No, no, no. All right. Well, have fun at the dentist, Mike. Yeah, you have
a ball. For Chris, it's like anything to get away from Goalick. Yeah, yeah, how about it? All right, we'll talk to you soon.
All right, thank you.
We'll talk to you after every pick, isn't it?
Yeah, there you go.
Okay.
All right, thanks to Mike Golic for joining us in the first couple of segments there.
We appreciate his time.
He is kicking and screaming on his way to the dentist right now.
I can't believe Mike DeA wanted Aaron Rodgers to come back as the dense quarterback.
I'm still reeling from that.
This is crazy.
We'll be in Nashville next week.
God bless football.
The Titans have the first pick.
They'll take Cam Ward, and we'll be there to get the live instant reaction from the Nashville fans.
Right, Mike Ea?
Yep.
We're going to play a little anonymous sources.
We're going to have a couple of giveaways.
It's going to be a good time in Nashville.
Come join us.
All right.
We're going to have Mal Kuyper on the show.
We're going to have Todd McShay.
We're going to have Field Yates.
All these guys are going to be on the show next week.
Fuentes has a strange new game.
He tried to explain it to me during a commercial break.
I still don't understand it.
So Fuentes, take it away here.
What the hell are we doing?
What have you guys been doing for the five or six weeks
I haven't been here?
It's been fun.
Yeah, it's been an interesting few weeks.
I gotta say, like a bunch of new games.
Mikey had some new games, Billy had some new games.
This is my first new game, Stu, guys.
I waited for you to come back for this one specifically
because you would appreciate this game.
Has a little bit of a twist,
because there's one thing I know about this.
Yeah, well, there's one thing I know about Stu
is he likes talking quarterbacks and ranking quarterbacks.
I did, yeah.
He loves doing that.
I mean, who doesn't?
Let's be honest. Exactly. Sure. We're doing a little bit of a twist on this one. It loves doing that. I mean, who does it? Let's be honest.
Exactly.
We're doing a little bit of a twist on this one.
It's gonna call blind rankings
and we're gonna blind rank some quarterbacks coming up.
And this game is presented by Smirnoff,
the world's number one vodka, please drink responsibly.
Now how it's gonna work, Stu,
is we're gonna do 34 quarterbacks,
all the starting quarterbacks in the league,
plus Cam Ward, plus Aaron Rodgers.
But you're only gonna rank 10 of them
and you don't know who's coming back.
I mean, who's coming next.
And here's the thing, I'm gonna cover this real quick
so you don't see it.
I've already randomized the quarterbacks.
So that way I'm not pulling any tricks on you.
I'm not, you know, just saying good guys
after you already ranked trying to catch you in something.
Okay.
He's gonna try and catch us.
He's gonna try and catch us to make us rank
Mahomes 10th or something.
I'm not gonna do that.
If you don't mind, let us determine after the game is played whether or not
you're up to some tricks.
OK, there you go.
I mean, please.
So that's how it starts.
So I'm going to name a quarterback.
You rank them 1 through 10 without knowing
the next quarterback in the sequence.
So you're naming a quarterback.
I have to rank them 1 through 10.
I don't know the other quarterbacks that
are going to come out of your mouth.
I just have to rank these quarterbacks.
And I cannot adjust the rankings.
You cannot adjust the rankings.
OK, and Mike, yeah, you're playing this game with me, right? I'm gonna play with you. Yeah, okay
Okay, this is gonna be bad. Go ahead. It's the starting 32 starting quarterbacks plus cam ward because obviously after next week
He'll be in the league and Aaron Rodgers because we don't know where he is, but he might be in the league
Okay. Yeah. Okay, so we're gonna start totally games by the way again are brought to you by smeared off
And they're also brought to you by the off season
Yeah, exactly brought to you by by by April football talk. Okay
Ready?
quarterback number one, okay funny it came up this way cam ward
The Heisman finalist from the University of Miami cam ward. Where do you rank them one through ten blindly?
Cam ward one through ten. I'm gonna put them 10th.
How about that?
That's fair.
I'm gonna give myself a little bit of wiggle room
because there's some bad quarterbacks
that we already know are bad.
I'm gonna put them ninth.
Okay, ninth.
All right, ninth, ninth.
I like this game already.
Yeah.
Good.
It's right up your alley.
I knew you'd love it.
Well, right until I start yelling at you
because you started playing games with us, all right?
Okay, then they can drop a Will Levis in there at any moment.
That's my ass.
And I have that 10 spot just waiting.
Number two.
Yes.
Mikey's favorite quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.
Where do you rank Aaron Rodgers in the blind ranking top 10?
Eighth.
Mikey's jumping with eighth a little bit above Cam Ward.
Interesting. I am going to go right.
I love it.
It's never played a game before.
The Super Bowl champion, multiple time MVP.
That he and he's just a slot behind our
in front in front of front front.
No, Roger. You put him in.
You put him at eight. Right, Mikey.
Aaron Rodgers. I guess I also know. No, Aaron Rodgers in front. You put him at eight, right Mikey? Aaron Rodgers eight, Kenwood nine.
I also know that there are some names still out there
and I would feel really bad about having Aaron Rodgers
ranked above them.
I mean, technically Aaron Rodgers is not an NFL quarterback
right now.
Currently no, he's in the league, just not signed.
Okay, well he also said retirement's still on the table.
That's what I'm saying.
And that's why, interesting.
I'm gonna put him eighth as well.
So I can't board at 10.
I have Aaron Rodgers at eight.
There has to be someone who's worse than Rodgers.
Oh, no, no, no.
So this is a godless football favorite.
Washington commander's quarterback, Jaden Daniels.
Oh, wow.
I'm guessing he's cracking the top five for both of you.
I don't know. I don't know.
I don't know.
Because I know it's coming.
Sophomore slump.
Maybe a little bit.
I am going to put Jaden Daniels at I don't know who's coming.
Well, technically he's it's going to be a sophomore slump either
way, right?
Unless he wins a Super Bowl.
Yeah, right.
You're right.
Yeah, it'd be hard to replicate.
Yeah, hard to do any better than he did last year. Right? I'm still I'm gonna put him at number four, number four jaded Daniels jaden. I'm gonna put him at five. Really? Okay, good. Put him at five. All right. Are you a couple of names? I have mine written down. Yeah, I don't have mine. I got I got used to. Don't worry. Okay. Okay. Number five. Very exciting.
Detroit Lions quarterback, Jared Goff.
Mikey, you made a face there.
Did you think it was number four, number five?
What was going on?
It's the fourth name.
Yeah, it's the fifth name off the board,
but where do you rank them?
No, it's the fourth name off the board.
That's why I made the face.
It's your game, yes, that's why you made the face.
You said the fifth, right?
We've only ranked three quarterbacks.
Listen, I keep track when I'm ranking quarterbacks.
I know how many quarterbacks I've ranked.
Okay, so Jared Goff number six Jared Goff number six for Mikey.
So I put jaded Daniels at what number did I put Daniels or I'll
put in Jared Goff at number five.
Okay, we have this very similar.
We're thinking the same way, but this is where he starts tricking us. I'm putting Gary Goff at number five. Okay. We have this, we're very similar.
We're thinking the same way, but this is where he starts tricking us.
I know it. It's coming and then we're going to punch him.
Go ahead.
Okay, the next one up is newly acquired Seattle Seahawks quarterback, Sam Darnold.
I got to put him at seven because I can't put him at 10. But I can't put him at four.
So I'm putting Sam Darnold at number seven.
What'd you make of that, Mikey, by the way?
Darnold to the Seahawks.
I hated it for Sam Darnold, but I love that he was in demand.
But I mean, there's no offensive line there.
There's no Kevin O'Connell there who's going to make him him shine and he's got one wide receiver right now in JSN. So I didn't
like the move for him. I think we're gonna go back to Darnold as a bust and
I think it's more because of where he is not what he is. All right. Fuentes
give me swag. Cam Ward at 10 right where did I put Jaden Daniels? You have Jaden
Daniels at 4, Jared Goff at five, Aaron Rodgers is eight,
Cam Ward at 10.
So you have one, two, three, six, seven, and nine available.
One, two, three, six, seven, and nine.
I'm gonna put Sam Darnold at,
I don't like this game, man.
I'm starting not to like it.
I'm gonna put Sam Darnold at seven.
Seven for Sam Darnold. At seven, yes. So I've Cam Ward at 10, I have Darnold at seven. Seven for Sam Darnold.
At seven, yes.
So I've came more to 10, I have Darnold at seven.
Yes, Aaron Rodgers at eight.
If he hit me with a bunch of MVPs right now,
I'm gonna have to put one of them at 10.
Well, here you go.
Next one on the list,
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
Oh wow. Where do you rank Josh Allen?
On our blind quarterbacks ranking list.
Number two. Number two for Mikey A, Josh Allen. On our blind quarterbacks ranking list. Number two.
Number two for Mikey A. Josh Allen.
I mean, who else does he have that's better than Josh Allen?
Mahomes, Burrow, Lamar, those are the names
that you could put above him.
I think Josh Allen's the best quarterback in football.
I'm gonna put Josh Allen number one.
Number one, Josh Allen.
Yes, there is no name that you could give me
that's gonna outrage me because I have to put them.
Say it, Fuentes. Say it, Fuentes. Say it, Fuentes. Yes, there is no name that you could give me that's gonna outrage me because I have to put them say it what does
No, I say it what does?
No, he randomized it. Yeah, I'm being true to the game like I like mr
Steinfeld at number one
I do like him because you can make an argument Stu can that that's the right pick no matter who comes after
But Mikey is saying stay true to the audience of the content. That's what I'm trying to tell you to do, Funtis.
No, no, I'm staying true to the list, but I like Josh Allen.
Can you make an argument?
I see Stu's point that Josh Allen could be argued, number one, easily.
And I gave you a couple of names that I could easily argue is above Josh Allen.
And that's that's just different, different ways of playing the game.
OK, OK, I got it.
The next name on our list.
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. Do you believe? 10, 10. Okay. I got the next name on our list. Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams.
Do you believe 10 10 10 10 10?
Wow.
Without hesitation down on Caleb.
Huh?
Yes.
But not only that he can't go for
what slots do I have left? You have a two, of slots left. Exactly. What slots do I have left?
You have two, three, six, and nine.
Nine for Caleb Williams.
Nine for Caleb Williams.
I have two, three, and six left.
OK.
OK, so.
Nine for Caleb Williams.
Next on the list, another young, struggling quarterback,
small in stature, but showed some signs last year.
No!
Bryce Young. Bryce Young.
Bryce Young.
Four.
Four.
You have no choice.
I have no choice.
I still have the six slot left.
So I'm okay.
I'll put him at six.
Six for Bryce Young.
Bryce Young currently better than Jaden Daniels and Jared Goff.
And Jared Goff, yeah.
And Aaron Rodgers.
I'm winning the game.
Oddly Stu is. Oddly Stu is. I'm winning the game. Oddly, Stu is.
Oddly, Stu is.
We'll see.
OK, next up on our list, newly acquired, overpaid quarterback,
Russell Wilson.
Oh, I have to put him second or third.
I mean, what are you doing here?
Third.
This is where the game falls apart.
This is where I start to get angry.
Third.
Oh, god. I only have one left, and you only have two left. Wait, who's number four
on my list? Jaden Daniels. Who's number five on my list? Jared Goff. Who's number six on
my list? Bryce Young. Who's number seven on my list? Sam Darnold. I have to put... Russell
Wilson is your number two. You don't have a choice. All right, Russell Wilson's third
on my list. Russell Wilson's third. I thought he was going to hit us with a bunch of good ones.
He hit us with a bunch of bad ones.
He did.
Yeah.
Well, who's my number one quarterback?
Mikey's number one quarterback, Stu's number two quarterback
in the league.
It's really funny this worked out that way.
Justin Fields, starting quarterback for your New York
Jets.
Ed, look, I'm going to finish writing this in real quick.
OK, first field. Just to prove, I'm going to finish writing this in real quick. OK.
Just to prove.
I apologize.
Just to prove.
I'm going to put the list up here.
Imagine the guy who's just behind Josh Allen.
He's been sitting there for the day.
Eddie Deeb could have had him.
And Mike, we were lucky enough to get him.
As you can see here, the list was printed out.
I did make one mistake.
I said Jared Goff before Sam Dardle, so I had
to switch those. Either way, irrelevant. Justin Fields, Mikey A's number one quarterback.
Funny how that was.
I might have put Jared Goff as my number two quarterback if I knew the names coming.
I love that you wanted Rodgers. You wanted Rodgers back for another season, yet you had
Fields right, number one.
Yeah, that's great.
He's the president of Rodgers.
That's great. It's perfect. Exactly what I wanted. Uh Fuentes was up to
some stuff. We said we were gonna find out at the end of
the segment. Fuentes was oh another thing I did that I I
see here that if you could see Deshaun Watson made it on this
list by accident so I crossed him out because he's not gonna
be a starting quarterback next season. He's not right but you
should do it with I mean so if we put it back on number two.
We put it back.
If you put him back.
Yeah.
Well if he would have been the sixth guy so who would you so
he would have been right for Josh out.
He would have been for Josh Allen.
So he would have he would have been Mikey ace 10 because he
would have been for Caleb Williams.
So it would have worked out for Mike.
And it would have been your nine.
So that would have worked out.
I nailed Josh Allen.
I mean he did.
He really did.
In terms of plotting.
Well, you know what it was?
Mikey was so scared of Patrick Mahomes coming up
that he was like, I gotta say.
No, honestly, I was hoping for a Joe Burrow.
I was hoping for.
No, but Fuentes is hosting the game.
If Billy was hosting the game,
then Patrick Mahomes and Burrow
would have come up automatically.
Well, two would have come up.
Yeah, two would have come up.
Or they're, so let me give you the next three quarterbacks that would have came
if I would have just extended the list.
Three more people.
Remember, the next person on my list was Dak Prescott.
OK, OK.
Then you would have had Patrick Mahomes, Matt Stafford.
And then and that would have been Drake, May and Lamar Jackson after that.
Right. Yeah. Oh, man.
So you were very quick to I was Caleb there. Mikey. I was trying to hold on to that
ten spot for two just to just to be that guy. But do you do
you really have no faith in Caleb Williams though? I would
have put him lower if you gave me more spots. Really? Why?
What's your issue with Caleb? Seriously, I I don't think he's I have a problem with
quarterbacks who were told their entire life that they're
the best ever because they never get tested and then when
they are tested it they don't know how to handle it right
and Caleb Williams is one of those guys.
I think I think it happens a lot more often.
It's all right.
The only quarterback.
I know that ever succeeded coming from that is Peyton Manning.
Peyton Manning is the only quarterback I know that was told from day one how great he is
and then outworked everybody.
Right.
That's my problem with Caleb Williams.
They anointed Peyton early and he lived up to all the hype.
It very rarely happens.
And this has all come very easily to Caleb Williams and he has not lived up to all the, all the hype. It very rarely happens. And this has all come very easily to Kayla Williams
and he has not lived up to the hype.
And there's Jaden Daniels who's transferring,
you know, he's playing different goals.
Exactly.
He transfers to LSU with Burrow Leaves,
then he lights up the college football world
and he's got a chip on his shoulder
and he wants to show everyone I'm better than that guy.
I remember talking about the draft.
I remember working up to the draft last year.
He was like a projected third rounder.
And then all of a sudden he shot up the boards.
And luckily for the commanders, they believe the hype,
took him and then NFC Championship.
Right.
I'm trying to think of other athletes though
who were anointed so early, who actually,
not specifically a quarterback,
but you're right about Peyton.
LeBron James was anointed early, lived up to all the hype.
That was the only guy I was gonna say that,
that was the only guy I was gonna say that you're, you know, LeBron James 100%. Yeah. Maybe Kevin Durant. I was staying in early, lived up to all that. That was the only guy I was gonna say that, that was the only guy I was gonna say that you're,
you know, LeBron James 100%.
Yeah, maybe Kevin Durant.
I was staying in football, yeah.
I'm trying to think of quarterbacks though,
who were like, and I think you're right,
it might just be Peyton Manning, unless.
Maybe John Elway?
Did Andrew Luck?
I mean, those are the guys where you go.
Elway was not anointed.
I don't recall Elway being like, you know,
the way they were making Peyton Manning to be the guy.
Number one pick, no doubt he's the guy going to be a Hall of Famer.
They were saying some of those things about Elway, but Elway also had a baseball career to consider.
Like he was thinking about a lot of different stuff there. That's interesting.
Peyton, I think you're right. I think it's only Peyton Manning.
Yeah. Usually the quarterbacks that really explode in the NFL are guys that have a chip on their shoulder, whether it's, you know, manufactured in their mind or actually there.
Right. Yep. All right, so we'll wrap up the show coming up after this. I love that game. Keep that game. Let's keep it going. Let's play it when Billy comes back. Has Billy played that game yet, Puezo?
No, no. Today was the debut.
Okay. Let Billy host it next time so we can mess with us.
Okay.
You stay true to the game. We're back after this.
This episode of God Bless Football is presented by Smirnoff.
We do game days.
Please drink responsibly.
The Smirnoff Company, New York, New York.
All right.
Mikey A's still reeling because he has Justin Fields as his number one quarterback in the
NFL in the group of 10 that we just presented.
His last segment.
Why are you so upset about this?
I'm actually mad at Fuentes for making me have Justin Fields as the number one right
quarterback on any of this.
Be mad at yourself, man.
He gave you Josh Allen.
You knew the rules.
You're number one.
You knew the rules.
Like, you know, if you want to protect against Justin Fields coming up, you got to know.
You know what you did.
Listen, when he gives you a Josh Allen, a Mahomes, a Burrow, a Lamar Jackson,
just put him at one.
Because it doesn't matter.
If he gives you another one of that set, you could just put them at two or three and no one's gonna argue with you
You know, I think I think students Justin field I think Stu has just figured out the game like yes
Whenever he gives you a top guy put him at number one. So you don't have Justin Fields ahead of Josh Allen
I
Don't have Justin Fields ahead of Josh Allen. I
Haven't been here in six weeks. I got the game.
Anyway, sorry.
I hate you guys.
More Mike Lee.
Are we going to do that?
Let's do a more you want to do more likely.
I was on my travels to Australia and I was going to California and I was going to the
sphere and I was going to see Denning Company in Vegas and the thing I was thinking to myself, what do I miss the most about God bless football besides Billy?
And it was more Mike Lee.
Well you missed some new games.
Really?
Oh yeah, yeah you missed a couple of doozies.
Really?
Like will it pass? Oh wow! Will it pass? That was a big one. Yeah. You missed you missed you missed a couple of doozies. Really? Like, will it pass? Oh, wow.
Pass. That was a big one.
Will it pass anonymous horses? Can you explain that one to me?
Yeah, it was the proposed rule changes and the question was will it pass? Very short-lived game.
It was a one-week game, but we'll play it again next year same week.
Short-lived, but you know impactful. Oh my god. All right, let's get to some more Mike
Please all right few minutes left here
By the way again, we will be in Nashville next week for the NFL draft courtesy of our friends over in smear north smear
No, excuse me. Go ahead Mikey
More Mike Lee to have a better season this year. Justin Fields are Aaron Rodgers
More Mike Lee to have a better season this year. Justin Fields or Aaron Rodgers?
Ha ha ha ha ha!
Mike Fuentes is something very funny during the break.
Is it possible if Rodgers doesn't play,
he still has a better season than Justin Fields?
Can't throw an interception when you're retired.
Right.
He will finish the year with no interceptions.
Good break to have Fuentes.
What was the question again?
Moore-Michael-Lee.
Moore-Michael-Lee to have a better season,
Rodgers or Fields?
I'm gonna say Justin Fields.
All right.
Yeah, just a reminder.
Moore-Michael-Lee.
Just a reminder, Mikey Ye ranked Justin Fields
number one on his quarterbacks.
Yeah, well that's why I'm saying Justin Fields,
right, he had Aaron Rodgers number nine.
Aaron Rodgers number eight, yeah.
Just a reminder. Oh, Aaron Rodgers number eight. Just sort of my idea.
Sorry.
More Mike Lee to live up to his contract.
Jamar Chase or Juan Soto?
Wow.
Been saving that one for you, Stu.
I don't think it's...
What was the Chase deal by the way a
Lot of money for a lot of a lot of guys. So whatever Soto signed for thank you for that explanation
I don't have the numbers in front of me. Okay, whatever side for it's impossible to live up to whatever Soto side for unless you went like
I think Yeah, I think my fans would say one World Series, but it's still it's it's so much money that it's
He set the bar. It's a ridiculous level
I don't think you can live up to that contract unless you win the World Series every single year you're playing
For the New York Mets, so I'll say I'll say Jamar chase
What does I want to say Jamar chase because he has a guy named Joe Burrow helping him do stuff.
So Juan Soto let's do it on his own.
So that's a good point.
He has Joe Burrow to help them get to those,
get to those levels.
Juan Soto it's, listen, baseball is an individual sport
wrapped up in a team sport.
So there you go.
Been saving this one for you too, Stu.
More Mike Lee to be at the Superbowl next year.
The Chiefs, the Eagles, or me?
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha to be at the Super Bowl next year. The Chiefs are not making it to the Super Bowl.
Spags. Oh Spags. I forgot about Spags. Did you say the Chiefs aren't making it to the Super Bowl? I say that every year. Yeah. Oh that's okay. Never mind. Yeah that's fine. All right.
Jet Spares last year. Remember that. Listen I got caught off. I was in the moment. All right.
Listen, I got caught up. I was in the moment, all right?
I'm going to say, who is more
likely the Eagles or you?
I'm going to say you.
I'm going to say you.
I'm telling you right now, you're going to the Super Bowl.
Yeah, I'm going to say Mike. I'm going to say Mike Ye, too.
I tell you, you are more likely to be at the
Super Bowl than the Eagles or the Chiefs, okay?
All right, last one.
More likely to have more players drafted the Super Bowl than the Eagles or the Chiefs, okay? All right, last one.
More likely to have more players drafted this year
in the first round from the SEC or the rest of college football?
Wow.
More likely first round picks, SEC or everyone else.
Like Tiger versus the field back in the day.
Yep. I'm going back in the day.
Yep.
I'm going to say the SEC.
I'm going to say they're going to have more first round picks
than all the other conferences combined.
I think it's close.
I think it's going to be close.
That's a big ask, right?
Cause you're asking 17 guys from the SEC to be picked.
Yep.
Yeah.
