Hey, what's up y'all? Welcome to Good Follow presented by DraftKings. I'm Roz Goldon-Wade.
That's my girl Logan Hackett. Logan, what's goody? How are you my girl?
I'm good. Honestly, I feel like I woke up the other day and it's like, okay, it's a new month.
I got on a whole vitamin regime.
I'm feeling absolutely amazing and very excited for what's to come in sports.
How about you?
Oh my gosh, you got your whole life together.
Right?
It kind of feels like it is like, wait, am I adulting right now?
Yes.
Like is this what it looks like?
Yes.
Yes.
Did you say vitamin regime?
Yeah. it looks like. Yes. Yes. Did you say vitamin regime? Yeah, I spent crazy amounts very amount of times researching vitamins
and I hate to say it but they are working really well. You
know what? I'm so excited for what's coming up for us. We're
about to have our reunion again in Miami. We're heading to
Miami for the Unrivaled playoffs and the Miami Open. Some tennis.
Ooh, is that the right way?
So I can't wait to see you in person.
But before we even get to our next in-person show
for Good Follow Show, we got to take you through today's.
Today we got a big one.
We got an exclusive sit down interview
with two-time WNBA champion Jordan Canada joins us.
Not only is Jordan a baller, but she completely takes us through
her process as a singer and a musician and you know sneak peeks of music
with us. We also hear from Kelly O'Hara who joins the show to
preview the NWSL season. Y'all it is
the unrivaled playoffs. We will be talking about that. We'll be
diving into college hoops and March madness.
And also we'll be talking about Angel Reese's comments
on the WNBA's upcoming CBA negotiations.
So we have a packed show, but before we get there,
I just wanna say, Logan, I speak for you
when I say this to our viewers, we love y'all.
Yes, so much.
We love them.
So much love for y'all. We love y'all. Yes, so much.
Love you guys. And we promise to be a show that covers women's sports with passion and with enthusiasm. So we thank you for
watching for subscribing. If you haven't subscribed yet, please
do it. Follow us on social media, comment, like all the
things. Oh, when do we drop? Every
single Wednesday at 7pm Eastern time. There you go. All right. Let's get to it. All righty.
We had another crazy weekend in college basketball with the conference tournaments going on.
And to be honest, I felt like Elmo in that J for gift when he's like engulfed in flames.
I kind of love all the chaos, but I want to start with the Big Ten.
First of all, we saw Caitlin Clark absolutely jacked.
Caitlin, I need your routine, a but B, is it?
She's on a vitamin regimen. Yeah.
What is going on?
I am jealous. I am shocked.
Like that is something I would long for.
We also saw a rematch between USC and UCLA.
I mean, I feel like they're meeting all the time,
but this was for the Big Ten tournament title,
and it was UCLA who quite literally took the crown at this time.
It was crazy to see their defense and the adjustments that they made.
Shout out to Lauren Betts as well.
But USC only made four baskets in the final 12 minutes,
which is so unexpected.
I mean, I feel like this was
very much a statement game for them. But with March Madness coming up very quickly, what are
each team's expectations heading into it? Yeah. You know, first of all, we're getting heavy
weight matchups between UCLA and USC. Some people are hoping that they'll see this matchup a fourth time
and maybe they'll both get one seeds in Tampa, perhaps the final four.
I would love to see it. Why not?
But, you know, I think it was a great response from UCLA
getting this win.
I think shout out to Lauren Betts, like, wow.
You know, she really sets the tone for them defensively.
She had four blocks, four steals in the game.
Three of those four blocks came in the fourth quarter and there was a really
signature defining moment as Juju Watkins is just trying to find a way to
score a bucket, goes to the lane and she's denied by by Lauren Betts.
And I just think you set the tone in that way and it's not just defense
offensively. Lauren was able to be super efficient, seven for 10 from the field for 17 points.
She absolutely was deserving of that most outstanding player.
And you know, good for UCLA whose defense
was just staggering in the second quarter.
So UCLA, I mean, they were just absolutely suffocating
on defense in that second half
and thwarted anything that USC was trying to do.
And that brings me to USC. They were up by 13 in the third quarter.
And Logan, you brought it up. They only hit two field goals in the last 12 minutes of game time.
Like in real life time, like that's like 30 minutes or even more.
That's a long time where they can't get something going.
And so that's my question for USC.
Like when the offense isn't flowing, when Juju is not going, like how do you manufacture some kind of production? Because
USC didn't get to the free throw line enough, I think. Like they only got there 13 times.
And when you're struggling to score the ball, every possession starts to really count for more.
And they turned it over 19 times. So they don't even have the ball long enough and you've got to figure out when you're in a league team, how do you stop the bleeding?
And one of those is, you know, not turning it over. I think a healthy film session will help USC
right now as they head into March. I mean, again, not a panic moment, but just healthy film session
to answer these types of questions. Yeah. And to go with that point, the stat on it was they shot
22.2% from the field in second half, which is just atrocious.
Like, especially as you said, getting down to crunch time,
like this is a game that you want to win.
You want to complete the three-peat.
You know how much like animosity is behind it with some things
that you've seen online.
But very shocking to see that on the UCLA side.
Good for them because their only losses are to USC.
They denied the three Pete, I guess you'd say.
But heading into March, that's a very good look to have on your resume.
My goodness.
They change their season girl.
Had they lost again to USC?
I mean, it completely changes the way they had into March.
But that wasn't the only tournament that crowned a champion.
We're gonna take a look at the SEC tournament.
South Carolina wins.
Shout out to Dawn Staley, who was a pillar
of just excellence and consistency
over the course of years and different rosters and classes.
But they took down Texas.
They won by 20 to win the SEC tournament.
So Logan, is South Carolina like finding their top top gear at the right time? Or did Texas
peak too soon too early in the season?
I honestly think it's a mixture of both. It's kind of a crazy
year for South Carolina because in the past, they've never
really had to flip that switch and be like, okay, it's go time.
They've been go from the very start. Whereas this year, you
saw them take losses early you there's people who are questioning, okay, is this going to be a championship winning team? And there's
more people who doubted them than before, which they thrive off of. So them flipping this switch
in the SEC tournament, showing how truly dominant they are. I mean, it's a masterclass. I was
watching it and I was like, they have a very good shot at winning the Natty now, which that was the
first time I've thought about that.
On the other hand, all of Texas's stats were trash, absolutely trash.
They weren't getting anywhere in this game.
I mean, 29.6% from field goal range and 12.5% from three point.
What are you doing with that, especially against a team like South Carolina?
And it was South Carolina who makes that happen.
They're known for defense. That is a very
good point. But actually to that point, their offense was cooking and I don't think we've seen
as much of a dominant performance as they showed in the SEC and bringing that into March with that
on your back. I think it's scary hours for them. Scary hours. Well now flipping it over to the ACC head coach Carol Lawson led Duke to their first
ACC tournament championship since 2013. I absolutely love this. If y'all don't know who
Carol Lawson is, please go look her up. Please go look up her pregame talks on YouTube. She is
absolutely amazing. But on their way to the final, they upset NC State and Notre Dame, which I, some people would
say they didn't expect to be honest. I was in Orlando. I called up somebody who could
bet here because of the Ontario betting laws and not break any rules. And I said, Duke
is going to be Notre Dame. It just looks like that. They seem very inconsistent to me. It's
just, I don't know. I have thoughts on this, but I want to start.
Okay, Logan, you called that. I did. Afterwards, I was like, wait, yes, like Duke Moneyline, Duke
spread. I love it. But Ros, I want to start with Duke. How big is this win for them and
Carol Lawson? Huge, huge. You know, Carol Lawson, I've had the pleasure of getting to know her.
She's excellent. She was excellent as a player, excellent as a broadcaster, and now moving into greatness as a coach.
This is a huge pillar for her program.
And Duke came in.
They were at the bottom coach them
through a pandemic and in five years
now has them back at the top of the
ACC at winning the tournament.
And to your point, Logan,
this was a really tough path.
They had to go through Notre Dame.
They had to go through NC State
and her team is young and hungry and they're defensive. They've to go through Notre Dame. They had to go through NC State and her team is young and
hungry and they're defensive. They've got a strong identity and that defensive identity like it was
more than they just squeaked through and upset them. They held Notre Dame 28 points below their
scoring average. They held NC State 15 points below their scoring average. So I mean this is
a team that heads into the tournament with a lot of momentum, a really good, strong sense of self
in their formula to success and kudos to them.
And on the flip side, should we be worried about Notre Dame
or should Notre Dame be worried about Notre Dame
heading into the tournament?
Yeah.
You know, look, Notre Dame, they're still those girls,
you know, but I am concerned for them
because they are limping into March.
Their last two losses, Coach Neil Ivy has had to talk with the team for an hour postgame.
This is what's standing out to me. Not even just the losses.
It's the fact that Coach Ivy, there's reports from media that they've had to wait for the team to leave the locker room postgame.
These losses over an hour.
That's a lot of talking, you know, and on one hand, I understand that Neil Ivy is trying to just impress urgency on her team so that they don't miss the moment.
That's right here for them. But on the other hand, I feel like it's March, you know, and this isn't a team that needs to be talked
into some kind of miracle.
Like they have every single thing they need
to be a championship team.
And ultimately, I think that the talk and the rally
has to come from the Notre Dame players
and the team themselves.
You can't just be a team that's beating your chest
and talking big and all this and that
when things are going well. You don't wanna be a front runner. Like you are being challenged
right now. This is real adversity and you're heading into a one and done scenario. So y'all
got to double down on who you are. And I think that's what they got away from their identity
as a team. That's defensive, high energy, confident, has defense that creates offense and they can create high
tempo up tempo pace, energetic situations where they can really just showcase their
toughness. So they've got to dig right now.
All I have to say to that is thoughts and prayers quite literally. But the Unrivaled
is also in their crunch time. All the basketball is heating up. We absolutely love to see it.
But shout out to Steph Curry, who was just named the latest investor.
Steph Curry, you are unrivaled.
Steph and Curry is unrivaled.
Every time I see these announcements, I feel like it's like so and so is unrivaled.
But this is a big one.
This is like a nod at the end of the season where it's like people got to view
the unrivaled season,
see what it was and then was like, yeah. I need to tap in. I need to tap. Exactly. And you know,
a shout out to Stephen Curry because he's been investing in the woman's game. And this is just
continues the path that he's on. Yeah. And with that, the seedings are locked in for playoffs
with the Lunar Owls clinching the number one seed. Then we have Rose at number two, Laces in three, and then Vinyl secured the fourth seed
on Monday night. So the Lunar Owls are heavy fan favorites. They have been fan favorites
for pretty much the whole season. But if there were to be somebody to take them down, who
do you think that would be?
You know, I think that the two teams that have the best chance of taking down the Owls might be the Rose and the Laces. And the Rose have been trending up to end the season.
They go as Chelsea Gray goes. One of the most beautiful things I saw on Unrivaled is just that
Chelsea's healthy. She's rejuvenated. She's playing with joy. And, you know, she's taking
her teammates with her. Angel Reese is so competitive. She's crushing the glass,
but she's absolutely been imp
end in unrivaled. But why
rose have a really great
team is trending upwards.
Britney Sykes and Lexi H
motor. They play so hard,
the defensive end. The ro
team and their defense ca
offense for fast break opportunities.
They're a low scoring team,
so you know they want to beat the defense
down the court and get some easier shots.
So I feel like that's the case for the Rose.
The Laces I've been calling the most dangerous
team in Unrivaled because they're now healthy
on time and they just got a bunch of veteran dogs
who can score the ball and
defend the ball and one of the reasons they've been so hot to finish the season
and have gotten into playoffs is because Jackie Young is healthy and playing at a
really high level. Let's take a look at some of Jackie Young's highlights. You
know first of all Jackie gets to the rim. She is so strong. She has a real passion
for the weight room and that devotion translates to the court. She is so strong. She has a real passion for the weight room and that devotion
translates to the court. She's very deliberate and methodical out there on the court. You
know, like she's smooth and unrushed. She can really stroke the ball well from three.
And then if you come flying out on her, she'll put the ball down, not get too deep, step
into her, her jump shot. She's got a great shooting touch, rarely off balance.
You know, she's just confident and, and just one of the many scoring options on
this team, cause there's Kayla McBride, McBuckets, there's Tiffany Hayes,
you know, Dolson could come in there and make impact.
And obviously Alyssa Thomas does a bit of everything.
So look out for the laces.
I mean, look out for the whole playoffs, man.
The thing about the playoffs is one game.
It's one game.
This ain't a three game or five game series.
You gotta win two games to get to the chip.
So these are some of the top players in the world.
Any one of these teams can win two games and win a chip.
Not gonna lie, while you're talking about Jackie,
I had to do a little Google search on how old she is
because she's playing like a vet,
but then she has the young look to her.
And honestly, it's the perfect age. She's 27. Wow. Maybe she's playing like a vet but then she has the young look to her and honestly it's the perfect age she's 27. Wow maybe she's on
a vitamin regimen too. Maybe I might actually have to DM her and be like hey you have the D3K2.
Coming up, Ross sits down with WNBA and unrivaled guard Jordan Canada. I'm very excited for that one, so we'll be right back. Hey, what's up, good follow?
We are coming to you from Miami at the Unrivaled campus.
As you know, I'm your girl, Ros Goldong-Wade, and today we have a delightful guest.
I'm going to do some accolades because she's a two-time WNBA champion.
She will be seen with the Atlanta Dream, and here at Unrivaled, she's part of Team Vinyl.
Don't play with her.
She will lock you up.
This is a two-time all-first team defensive selection,
two-time steals leader in the WNBA.
When she was at UCLA, she was the Pac-12
defensive player of the year.
You don't play about defense.
I don't play about defense.
I get down.
Jordan Canada joins the show.
What's up, Jordan?
What's up?
Thank you for having me.
I'm so happy to have you.
Thank you.
You've been having aura, girl.
I have.
You've been hooping.
Thank you.
I'm trying.
You've really been finishing on RIVALD strong here.
And you know, we've met before and spoken.
Coach Teresa Weatherspoon said,
she told you as you go, team vinyl will go.
Like, how much do you feel like your game
has expanded and grown here
at Unrivaled? I think it's just given me the opportunity to just keep my confidence to
be honest playing with such talented women and the level of competitiveness every game.
It just makes you want to be better. It makes you want to go hard. And so just having that
opportunity to be here, it's been really great for my game, being able to work on things that, you know,
I'll be working in on the offseason but seeing it in live play.
And like I said, just the confidence of just keeping that up and going into the W season
has just been really a great opportunity for me.
Yeah. What is it that over the course of your career
has allowed your confidence to be shaken and even your joy.
I think it's just the experience of being in the pros, to be honest with you.
Coming from UCLA where I was playing starting all four years and then having to go into a talented Seattle team
and playing behind one of the best, if not the best, point guards in the league and having to learn
and then trying to figure out, okay, where do I fit in with this group? What are my strengths?
What are my weaknesses? Or what is it that I can do to bring to the team?
And that was something that I battled with for, you know, the course of my years in Seattle,
just trying to figure out how I can navigate that. So that was just pretty tough.
And then, like I said, that kind of shifted my confidence just a tad bit. And it wasn't anything that
Seattle did. I think that was just me personally trying to figure out where I fit in and how I can grow
and get better. And honestly, like, you know, it has helped me today. Cause if I didn't have that experience
of trying to learn and grow in a different way,
then I wouldn't have, you know,
wouldn't be the player that I am today.
Being able to come off the bench and be okay with that
and bring that energy and then also be a starter
and then bring that same energy and that same confidence.
That's something that I didn't have
until I got to the pros.
I was always starting. So I always had that energy from the jump.
And it's different when you're coming off the bench and you're playing around such talented
players and your teammates, you're trying to figure out, okay, well, I might not be
a scorer like I was in college, but how else can I affect the game?
And that was something that I was learning.
So it was just a lot of ups and downs,
but I'm grateful for those moments
because it's brought me here.
And now I feel like I'm in a position where I am now a vet
and I have that experience
of what it's like coming off the bench.
So I can talk to players like Haley
and then also setting a tone
and setting an example of being a starter.
So I'm very grateful for those times.
Well just to piggyback the conversation around Seattle, I mean you had the opportunity to
play behind and learn from Sue Bird.
What would you say were the most important things that you still think about to this
day that you got from Sue Bird?
How to be a pro, to be honest.
Coming into the gym, she's there early, getting her shots up. Even after practice, she's getting her shots up, she's there early getting her shots up even
after practice she's getting her shots up, she's taking care of her body, she's
doing the things that she needed to do to make sure that she's ready for a game
and I always remember like my first couple of practices my rookie year she
came up to me and she was basically like don't try to be like me like be you be
yourself there's a reason why you're here. And that's something that always stuck to me. Like don't try to go outside myself,
just try to be who I am. And that, like I said, that has stuck with me. And just watching her
day in and day out, how she communicates with the team, how she talks, but what she says,
like you're, you really listen to what she's saying. And her brain is just like, her IQ is just out the window.
Just seeing some of the things that she says, like in timeouts,
like she knows what's going to happen before it happens.
And so just learning those little nuances of how I can add that to my game,
but be different in a different way.
So I've learned so many things from Sue, so I'm very grateful for that.
Yeah, I mean you have an opportunity to see that you don't got to be the loudest,
but what you say has to be powerful and meaningful.
You have the opportunity here at Unrivaled to learn from another great in
Teresa Weatherspoon as your coach. How is Spoon helping you?
Spoon has helped me tremendously. I
helping you? Oh, Spoon has helped me tremendously.
I have never had a coach just speak so much life into you day in and day out, no matter
the situation, no matter if we're winning, losing, just the energy that she brings.
It makes me like want to go.
Like we don't, even in a practice, she could be talking in a huddle and it just makes you
want to play.
It just makes you want to go hard. And those are the type of coaches that you want to run through a
wall for. And she does it with every single one of us. And to be honest, I know she, if
she does it with us, I know she's done it with all her players. And like I said, just
the life that she breathes into you, the confidence and the encouragement that she's constantly
giving you, it's something that I'm truly grateful for and that I love that I have in this moment and in Unrivaled
because it has helped me in the beginning I was still trying to get a feel for the three
on three and then having her as my coach this whole time is just like I said has breathed
life into me, has breathed life into my game, has made me confident and hopefully we could continue to keep building that relationship going into
the W season
so you feel that you have your confidence you have your joy
I do have my joy yes I once I got my joy back in LA and I haven't lost it so I'm
very grateful very thankful for that because you know that can come and go
especially in this type of
in this field of basketball.
One minute people hate you, the next that they love you,
but the one thing that they can't take away from you
is joy, so I'm glad that I got that back,
and I'm just trying to keep it rolling.
Girl, I'm here to tell you, that's in life.
Yes.
You gotta fight for the joy.
Fight, fight to keep it, right.
Exactly.
What is your voice? What is your voice?
My voice?
I mean, in terms of basketball,
I'm very quiet, you know,
but when I say stuff,
like I feel that, you know, my teammates listen.
I know what I'm talking about. I'm not a rowdy, loud person.
I feel like I don't need to get your attention by being loud. But when I speak, I'm very intentional about the things that I say.
And I feel like my teammates listen. And so that's something that you want. You don't have to be the loudest to get your point across.
As long as you stand on what you say
and you mean what you say and how you say it.
I think I'm really good at being able to talk
to certain players and knowing how to talk to them.
I think that's really important, especially as a PG.
Like you can't talk to everybody the same.
Everybody responds differently to different tones
and to different words.
So I just try to be mindful of who I'm speaking to and how I can get my message across without, you know,
having an attitude or getting loud. I mean, that's not me in general. I'm very reserved. I'm very laid back.
So I just try to be intentional with my words.
Yeah. I think it's a really important talking point, Not even just for sports, just about leadership in general.
We live in a society where being an extrovert
or being the loudest is often put on a pedestal.
And I think there are many ways to lead.
I think that's an important message for a lot of people
at home listening, for work spaces.
I mean, that you can be an effective, powerful leader
and also do it in your own way and style.
So that really resonated.
Thank you.
It's funny because we're talking about voice.
And you have this incredible voice off the court.
You know, like, you have, you have a voice,
cause you said a voice in basketball.
In my head, I was like, well, also in music,
you're a wonderful singer.
Thank you.
Well, what is your voice as a singer then?
I'm still, now that is something I'm still trying to figure out.
I have recently been, I've always been into music,
but I think recently I've been more in tune with music
as wanting to be an artist, really.
In the beginning, I was kind of contemplating,
I'm like, maybe I just like to sing for fun. fun like this is just something that I like to do but I
don't know if I want to pursue it and then recently maybe like in the last
year or so I've really been like you know what I think I do want to actually
do music and be an artist and learn what it takes to write a song or be in the
studio what it takes to make a beat and the ins and outs of the industry so
that's something that I have been
navigating in the last year. And then recently a couple, I
guess like this last week, I've gotten a chance to get into the
studio, gotten a chance to make a song, two songs, and lay down
the track. And I didn't realize how hard it was. Like it really
was hard. My first time going in there, I didn't realize how hard it was. Like, it really was hard my first time going in there.
I didn't have anything.
Like, I just wanted to go in and see, start from scratch.
So had a beat and then was just thinking about
what I want to write about, what I want to talk about.
And it was hard.
And it took me five hours just to make a hook and a verse.
Wow.
And I didn't, I'm like, wow, this is a lot of work.
Like, is this something something I want to do?
But I enjoyed it.
And so the next time around, I made sure I was prepared.
I'm like, maybe I should do this differently.
So I had a beat and then I was listening to it
over and over again, got the lyrics, got the track,
got the melody down.
And then I went in there and I was like, okay,
this is what I want to do.
And I was a little bit more prepared.
So I'm still trying
to navigate like what works for me, what doesn't work for me, but I've had a blast doing it.
I think it's been a really great opportunity for me to step outside my comfort zone and
actually go for it and do it because I've always said I wanted to make a song, I wanted
to do it, but I was kind of hesitant and now I'm just trying to step into being more confident in that space and just
be like, you know what, just do it.
And so I did it and I got two songs done.
So I'm trying to navigate what the next steps are with that.
If I want to do a visual, if I want to just drop it.
So I'm happy that I got a chance to do it.
So what are you talking about?
Like are you a lover?
Are you a crooner? Are you, is it, are you a lover? Are you a crooner?
Is it gospel?
A crooner?
What's a crooner?
I've never heard crooner.
A crooner?
Oh, no.
Is that too old?
A crooner is like somebody who's like, I don't know, crooning.
I got to look crooning up.
I don't know what crooning is, but that's a term.
Now, I know I got to look it up to see what that is.
Okay, well then what kind of singer are you?
Are you singing the blues?
Are you somebody who's emo?
So I am an R&B girl at heart.
I love R&B, I'm a lover girl.
So my first song is, I guess it's not a lover girl song,
but it's doing, I guess you would say a situationship
which everybody can probably relate to
at some point in their lives, being in a situationship.
So that's kinda like the first song that I made.
Now the second song that I did, which I love,
I love it better than the first one,
it's more of a side that people don't see of me, so it's more of a, I don't want to
say sensual, but it's more of like a flirty type of song.
I don't want to say sexy because it's not giving that, but it's giving that flirty
energy.
Like you're in a club, you see somebody that you like,
and you got, you know, is that tension
and that energy that you feel.
So that's something that is completely different
than my personality.
Like I said, I'm very shy, I'm very laid back and reserved,
but those are the two songs that I've made so far,
but I absolutely love this song that I made.
So we'll see moving forward what other songs that I'll create.
But I definitely like the two songs that I've made so far.
In some ways, music can push you outside your box.
Very true.
Yeah.
I love toxic music.
Not you being a toxic girly.
But I'm a lover girl.
I'm a lover girl.
In the studio, I say I want to make love songs, because like I said, I'm a lover girl. I'm a lover girl. Like in the studio, I say I want to make like love songs
because like I said, I'm a lover girl.
But outside of the studio and just in general as a person,
like I'm such a lover girl.
But the music that I listen to is like very toxic.
Like I love toxic music.
So I'm like, is that weird for me to be a lover girl,
but love toxic music?
So I don't know.
I might wind up making toxic music
I kind of just want to dive into different like
avenues with
Topics of songs and see what fits for me, but I don't know yet. That's something I'm still trying to navigate
Well, we're gonna ask the fans if they want to hear some love a girl music or some toxic music.
They probably want to say toxic music.
I'm knowing them.
Everybody loves toxic music.
One thing that you have done, which I've always impressed
with, is like, you can go on a dime.
Can we hear a little snippet from you of one of your songs?
You want to hear a snippet?
Yeah.
Are you able to sing it?
Are you going to play it for us?
No, I'm going to play it for you guys.
OK. Are you able to sing it or are you going to play it for us? No, I'm going to play it for you guys.
So this is the song that I absolutely love.
It's called, I'm still trying to figure out
if I want to call it Come See or See What's Going Down.
So this is the song that is more out of my comfort zone,
that people wouldn't necessarily see me singing or hear me singing.
Okay.
So here it is.
It's a little snippet.
I'm not gonna give you,
I'm not gonna give you everything,
but I'm gonna give you a little bit.
["Sweet Love"]
Sorry, got a little behind.
No.
Is that you talking?
No, that's not me.
Okay. Sorry, I got a little behind the camera. Is that you talking? No be here, leave me alone You must know I'm not the type of woman that'll let you go with these
So baby come talk me some, why you even try to front?
The way you act and got me feeling like I can give you all that you want
Tell me what you need, that's what I'm gon' be
Are you the type to trust a pretty girl
or are you gon' come see me?
All right.
Ah!
You was talking your mess.
You was talking, you was letting them know.
That's a little snippet.
Yeah, you sound incredible.
Thank you, thank you.
It's weird when I hear myself for the first time
on the track, I'm like, ah, I don't sound good.
But all the responses that I've gotten so far, I've been like, yo, this track is track, I'm like, I don't sound good, but all the responses that I've gotten so far have been like,
yo, this track is fire, I like it, you need to drop it.
So I'm glad I'm getting good responses.
Because that was something that,
because I'm not experienced in this space,
of course I have my doubts and I'm like,
I don't know if people are gonna like this,
but I'm glad that I actually did it
and you know, I got some people to listen to it
and they love it. So hopefully the people that are listening to this and I got some people to listen to it and they love it.
So hopefully the people that are listening to this
and watching this, hopefully you guys like it too.
I just want the background story
of this picture that went viral.
Oh gosh.
This is at the very end of January, right?
Brittany Griner just made her announcement.
Y'all are on a boat fishing.
And she said, I'm coming to Atlanta.
And don't worry, the fans at home, we will show you this picture. I'm coming to Atlanta and don't worry the fans at
home we will show you this picture I'm showing I'm showing my girl in the halls.
Yes yes yes yes. So actually. How did this come together? So actually I don't know if you want to show them the pic.
They're gonna see it on the show. We'll show it to y'all. So actually before free agency, BG had a meeting with Atlanta.
We were her first meeting.
And so Leesh and Ryan actually went shopping and they saw these 42 jerseys.
And they were like, we've got to get this for BG.
We've got to get this for BG.
So I was like, okay.
So they bought one for me.
And then we were like, we're all going to wear it going into the free agency meeting when we see her. So we walked in we had the BG, we had the
shirts and she was shocked of course and she liked it. So when she officially said
that she was gonna sign with Atlanta that week when she played on Friday I
believe because we didn't play till Saturday we were like okay we're all
gonna walk the Sephora tunnel with our 42 jerseys and
she didn't know it that we were gonna do that either. So when she actually showed
up she saw I guess somebody told her that we were gonna do it so we were
walking the tunnel and she happened to come and see it and she was like wow so
then she stepped in and she took a picture. I thought it was pretty cool.
It was cool because y'all were not even on the same team. That's the owls. That's the phantom
That's the vinyl. Yeah we were all over the place, but that's just the love that we have like as as an Atlanta dream like we're very
Family oriented and we're gonna treat you like family
So that's the vibe we wanted to give BG to let her know like you're you're stepping into an organization and step into a team
That you know, it's gonna take care of you and we're gonna treat you like family
You're one of us.
So we just wanted to make that clear to her.
So we were very happy that we got to do that.
And it was meant to be.
I mean, what are the chances that you see a 42 jersey
just in a store randomly, especially out of all numbers.
So I'm glad that we were able to do that.
It's a fire pick.
It's an iconic pick. Like name that iconic pick. Thank you like name that band
Yeah, what is the name of that band name that band? Oh my god. That's put me on the spot. I
Don't know the I'm gonna call it the dreamies. I don't know
We got all sorts of exclusives in this interview with you girl
I could talk with you in other 30 minutes if you me. It was so wonderful. We would all day.
Oh my gosh.
Oh my gosh.
It was so great to have you on.
Thank you so much for having me. Welcome back to Good Follow. I'm Roz. She's Logan and we just heard from Jordan Canada.
That was such a great sit down interview with Jordan who is just so dynamic and so cool
to get her to pull a curtain back on her just music career and process. I'm
glad she's putting music out. You go girl. Now Logan, let's transition because you were at the
challenge cup last week. So let's transition to some soccer. The Washington Spirit and Orlando
Pride went head to head and this was a rematch of the 2024 championship game. And this time it was
the spirit who came out on top on over the Orlando pride. And they did this in penalties.
These were the top two teams last season. So Logan, you were there based on what you
saw Friday. Will that be the case again?
Short answer is yes. Long answer is yes. With some more behind it. Let me explain. I think these teams
are the top. The only other team that I see coming in is Kansas City possibly. I think
it'll definitely be a repeat of last season. With that said, towards the end of last season,
Washington went down with a whole bunch of injuries. And for the most part this year,
they're healthy. They're still missing a few key players here and there. We don't have full health in Trinity
yet. Kroi is still out, but the play that we saw from them, Chef's Kiss, absolutely amazing.
And I do want to take a moment to also shout out the internationals because that's kind
of what got Orlando through their season last year. You had Barbara Banda and Marta leading
the way and they have a new Zambian player,
her name is Prisca, Prisca Chalufa. And I think she's going to be an absolute star. Watching her
play was really special. She didn't score anything, but I was like, oh my God, go Prisca.
And then on the other side, you had Washington with their player, Rebecca Bernal. And the second
she came in, the game completely changed for them and they pretty much secured the win.
So other teams do have international pickups, but I don't think they're as strong.
And I don't think that they can overcome both Washington and Orlando this year.
With that said, I don't think Orlando can go undefeated.
Technically, they're not undefeated because they just lost.
But I do think that they'll be at the top once again.
You know, one day you're at the top of the league,
the next day, someone's right on your tail.
But with that, actually, a few weeks ago,
I sat down with Kelly O'Hara to preview the season
and talk about what teams will be top contenders
and who's looking good, so take a look.
We are here with Kelly O'Hara to answer some quick questions
that I am very curious about. So starting off at the end of
yourself, who do you think is the new front runner this season? I think Gotham is going to be a front
runner. I think that Orlando will also be a front runner. Yeah, I think Orlando, they, I'm not sure
how much movement they had, but it didn't seem like a lot whatsoever compared to other teams and
they were insane last year. What was it like
to like play against them or just to know that like you had a game coming up against them,
especially when it kind of was getting down to the wire? I mean it presented an opportunity to
ruin their season every time you played that you know with them almost going undefeated and
that was fun.
We actually played them for the game
that was my retirement game and we won,
which that never happens when you're doing a retirement game.
But I think it only happens when the person
who's retiring isn't playing.
But no, they were a very good team last year.
And the reason I think that they will continue to be
as good as they were, if not better,
is because one, like you said,
they didn't lose a lot of people this off season. And on top of that, I think they had a really
strong team culture. And you could see that even from the outside, it was very noticeable that
it's clear that they're a super close team and they're all working from the same page.
And yeah, I think that pays dividends regardless of the amount of talent you have in the team.
And they also have that with the players leaving and coming in.
Like, where do you see them going?
Do you think it's a championship run or are they going to be kind of like up there real close?
Could make a run, but like it's not for sure.
Yeah, I think I think they're going to be contenders.
I think that they're going to be top four.
I would say top three. Last season,
all things considered, it wasn't as we wanted to win again. That's the reality. We wanted to
win a shield and we wanted to win a championship and that didn't happen. We didn't make it back
to the championship. But that's the reality of professional sports. And especially in this league, you got to lay the foundation for culture and for a certain
way of playing and a certain way of stepping onto the field every time.
And I think they're doing that at Gotham.
I just think it takes time.
Yeah, I had you all in, I was doing power rankings for the NWSL last year and you all
were constantly in like the top four or five. A lot of the times it did not move, but it sounds like you're saying
they're going to be like that again. So is there anything specific that like fans should
look out for in 2025? If you can share.
In terms of Gotham, I mean, I would like to see, I think Gotham has the reputation of being a really
hard team to play against because we're like the team was so good and has been so good
in the past two years defensively. I would really like to see a little bit more output
on offense. I'd love a couple more goals every game, you know, everybody loves a goal, even a defender
when it's not against me.
So I would like to see their offense get a little bit just more consistent.
That was my one thing last year, like it was like one niller, like two one.
And I just kept on saying, I want them to score, please get the goal differential up.
Like defense is so good.
But like even just a few more goals a game.
And it did get there towards the end of the season, I will say.
But yeah, for that first little bit, I was like, oh my gosh, please,
you have the talent to score.
No, Logan, I completely agree.
It was like, we will win, but it will be only 1-0.
And then, like you said, later into the season, we did start to click.
You did see games that had a bigger goal differential, that sort of thing. So I'm hoping for more of those. And I think that builds confidence and just
create a strong culture in the team because you feel like, okay, I'm not going to be like on pins
and needle every game. We need one goal. Like I know the goals are going to come.
Yeah. And you've been in the league for a while and even nationally, you've been able to see
everything evolve and see the athletes then and the
athletes now with the new CBA agreement.
What has it been like to actually watch that and kind of see everything start to
work out?
It's, it feels nice, you know, like we,
it's crazy to think about where the league was when I started.
I mean, and it was so, wasn't even around. When I left college, I got drafted into the WPS. So I, during my playing career, watched
a league fold and then was part of starting a new league. And so it's, I've seen it literally
from day one turn into what it is now. And even now, it's made huge strides
and I'm really proud of that,
but it has so much farther to go.
But I do think with, you know,
our fight for equal pay on the national team,
I think that really just propelled the league forward.
And I think propelled women's football forward and women's
sports in general. But again, we're only at the beginning, in my opinion.
But before you go, you executive produced a film called R.I.P.E. last year. And I just
want to know, is there any new movies you're producing in your future?
We are continuing on to create a feature based off of the short. So we're in the process of financing for that.
And so that'll be the film that we work on this year.
And we haven't decided if we're gonna take on
any more projects, but we really enjoy working on RIPED
and we're really excited about the future
and the future of that film.
So it's been really fun.
I'm a rookie in the space and it's been fun to learn and just be able to create
something that you would want to see in the world.
Well Kelly, thank you so much for joining us. Really
appreciate it.
Yeah, thanks for having me. Welcome back to Good Follow.
Big thank you to soccer legend Kelly O'Hara for joining us and joining Logan for that
great NWSL preview.
Now let's transition because this segment
is presented by DraftKings. Unrivaled playoffs are beginning on Sunday and I've got my eyes on that
two versus three seed matchup between the Rose and the Laces. On the Rose, if you're looking for
someone to pack the stat sheet, it's Angel Reese, who's leading unrivaled and rebounding.
Naturally, we expected her to
crush the glass, but she's
improved so much on the offensive
end, finishing, getting in deep
and scoring the rock.
She's on constant double double
watch.
For the laces, a player who can
also fill the stat sheet is
Alyssa Thomas.
Now she may not always be your
leading scorer, but she's on
constant triple double watch as a
player who rebounds creates for others with assists.
She can get you a bucket or a block, and she's definitely the tone-setter for the toughness
and physicality of the laces.
I have the Rose winning and advancing to the finals, and perhaps we might see them against
the overall number one seed Lunar Owls if they advance over Team Vinyl.
Either way, I have a feeling that these unrivaled playoffs are going to finish with a big.
This segment is presented by DraftKings.
DraftKings, the crown is yours.
Logan, we love doing that.
I love it.
It's such like a signature move.
But before we go, I want to hit the story, talk about it.
I've been seeing it everywhere. Post went viral stating, quote, WNBA star, Angel Reese believes WNBA players should be getting paid like NBA players.
Big sigh. Once again, that's not what she said.
And also look at this tweet. It's from sentel. Look at the E at the end. Sentel is a troll
meme site, man. But the problem is people are going to go and run with that because
it's angel Reese. Like they want to see something that's inflammatory. And she never said that
exactly. And angel actually made her own saying, I love how y'all have selective hearing. I
said, I'm hearing if they don't give us what we want, we're sitting out,
and that's the truth. I never said anything about the NBA. Of course, like, oh, I hate this whole
conversation. I hate that we're always having this. But on the Unapologetically Angel podcast,
it was her and Dishonay sitting down and they were discussing the salaries and how the upcoming
rookie class might actually make more than them due to the new CBA agreement that might get signed.
So I mean, we could possibly see a protest.
I'm not too sure.
But what do you think about just the act of WNBA players potentially sitting out to fight
for more pay for what they deserve?
Well, you know, this is all part of CBA negotiations and it's right on time.
I believe the WNBA players provided a proof of concept last season and now in Unrivaled
again and with athletes unlimited attention ratings attendance it's all up and the product
is great.
There's a new crop of identifiable young stars new rivalries storylines that people
are following the players are captivating and there's an appetite for investment.
You know we're seeing new WNBA teams.
We're seeing alternative leagues like athletes unlimited like unrivaled who are having banner seasons.
There's an influx of cash coming from the new TV rights deal brand deals are flowing and there's just like investors with cash fist in hand,
you know trying to find ways to invest in women's basketball now. So I think when we discuss the conversation in a reasonable, right-minded way, it's important to
note that WNBA players are looking to renegotiate the revenue split and that they aren't asking for
NBA salaries, but they are looking to the NBA's model where in their revenue split, it's about 50-50.
And perhaps in like years past, Logan, WNBA team owners may have been carrying the burden
of the load.
But now I think that scale has slid and the players are pushing a lot of the momentum
that we're seeing.
They're behind a lot of that.
They're driving it.
And they want to make sure that they have an opportunity to not be left out of the momentum
and the monetization of the energy that they're creating.
So I think right now is a great time for them to be discussing revenue split and equity
in the league.
And they have every right to.
It reminds me of when the US Women's National Team was fighting for equal pay and they had
to do everything themselves.
They had to bring in the numbers, they had to fight for it for many, many years and they
finally achieved it.
And now, I mean, they are the most thriving nation in soccer and they're truly getting
paid what they deserve.
There is still work to be done in some places, but they really had to spearhead that movement movement because the league or the federation wasn't going to do
that, do it for them. You have to step up like, and sometimes you got to shake the table. It's
not just hoping and asking for a seat at it, but you know, you've got to fight for this and
these negotiations and talks aren't easy, but they're so necessary and I think it's right on time. Absolutely. You know,
speaking of time, that's it for our episode today. I know, I know, but we want to thank all of you
for watching. We want to thank Jordan Canada, Kelly O'Hara for joining our show today. We had
two greats of basketball and soccer here. Make sure y'all subscribe if you made it all the way to the end of this show.
Better be subscribing. And then also follow us on socials at Good Follow. We appreciate you. We are building this thing together. Good Follow. We're presented by DraftKings. Logan, any final
thoughts? Love you. Yeah, we do love you. Okay, bye y'all. We'll see you next week. Bye guys. In Miami! Woo hoo hoo, welcome to Miami.
