Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to Giraffe King's Network. This is the Don LeBattor Show with the Stugats Podcast. I usually try to under promise and over deliver, but I will tell you that the sporting class that David Sampson does with John Skipper and Pablo Torre has more good sports business information per square inch than anyone doing it anywhere that I have heard. If you really want some expertise on what's happening in business, he also has his own podcast.
Starting point is 00:00:43 The sporting class is coming out tomorrow with John Skipper, David Sampson and Pablo Torre. And you guys have covered the NBA rights fiasco here for a while. And I want to ask you some specific questions, but I also urge the audience audience to go to nothing personal, the podcast he does live and daily at 8 a.m. every day on DraftKings Network. So I want to ask you specifically though about the mess that they have on their hands where TNT initially, the CEO of everything that's being run over there, said don't need to have the basketball rights and now everyone's fighting for the basketball rights and Charles Barkley is calling his you know bosses fools for not solidifying this can you tell me a short answer or as much as you can given how much we're talking about here what has been botched the most and
Starting point is 00:01:40 are you at all surprised that basketball with declining ratings is going to get a giant, giant number? You are going to love the show that we release tomorrow. So I'll try to really sum this up in 60 seconds and tell you, I, for one, don't think that Turner has botched this at all. I think when he told his investors that he didn't need the NBA. He was serious and he was right. And I think that Adam Silver has played it just fine. They've got plenty of bidders. They'll have a package with NBC, Amazon and ESPN. And Charles Barkley is going to be fine as well. I appreciate that he's upset having to change networks, but I also assure you it's all going to work out for him as a free agent.
Starting point is 00:02:25 So all of the negativity around football leaving Turner, it will disappear within moments of hearing the music at NBC. So I think this is truly much to do about nothing. Really? So you're telling me that there was nothing botched here in the losing of basketball. We had quite an argument on sporting class. No. Remember, he answers to investors. We're talking about David Zaslav. We're talking about Warner Brothers Discovery. We're talking about a company with a huge amount of debt, crippling debt.
Starting point is 00:02:57 We're talking about a package that may not actually make money. We're talking about the ability to get out of deals that were huge, huge deals signed with the inside of the NBA crew. We're talking about share price that has been stagnant. We're talking about a much bigger business than the NBA. And that is Warner Brothers discovery. So he is the chairman of all of it, not just Turner sports without spoiling what it is that you guys did for tomorrow,
Starting point is 00:03:25 because I didn't know that a huge argument broke out. You are voicing something I have not heard. Is it about that? Is it about you saying that this is of no harm to TNT, which doesn't have anything like this on its menu? Yes, this is this is it. And we also talk about ratings where you spend a lot of time on your show as do so many other people talking about where the ratings are and are they up and are they down and we try to uncover the truth behind ratings, which is no one actually cares when they're about to write a check or selling their rights to their league. Ratings never come up in negotiations. You have mentioned that before and the TV rights deals are
Starting point is 00:04:05 what's funding everything in sports. I thought that the reason that Mark Cuban got out, Mark Cuban who's got a great love of basketball and has a great instinct for financial things and what the future will look like, I thought the reason that he got out on this thing that he most loves is because Luca's now up for 350 million, Kyrie's up for 200 something else million on max deals, and he's saying to himself, this isn't sustainable. I'm getting out before the next rights deal. And now I see dollars with this rights deal that I was not expecting.
Starting point is 00:04:38 Yeah. Mark Cuban knew very well what the rights deals would be going forward when he made this deal. As a matter of fact, the valuation for the Mavericks was based upon what the revenue would be coming to each of the NBA teams. He is no fool. I think that it's far more about estate planning, but I don't want to get too far into that. But a lot of owners sell teams for estate planning purposes. And Cuban was not taken by surprise nor was any owner in baseball.
Starting point is 00:05:06 We were directed years in advance what the new TV deals would be because we do projections for payrolls based on what revenue would be coming from the league. You have said before around here that ratings don't matter just for the audience. Can you explain why it is that this does not matter? Because what companies do when they are trying to acquire content, they are trying to justify subscription revenue. Back in the days of cable with regional sports networks, you had to get people to subscribe to your, whether it's Spectrum or Optimum, pick a cable company. And what you did is you would pay nine bucks a month and you would get a channel or 50 bucks a month and you get a tier of channels.
Starting point is 00:05:52 And these channels had to be on cable and the cable company needed to buy these channels and the channels needed to buy the content. Do you get it? All the revenue was flowing upstream. Nobody talked when we did a Marlins TV deal, hey, do you know only 20,000 people watch your games? What Fox said to us or Cablevision is we need something on Fox Sports Florida.
Starting point is 00:06:15 And we're willing to pay you blank based on the amount of subscribers who have Fox Sports Florida. And the reason the regional sports networks went bankrupt is that all of a sudden people were cutting the cord. They were only paying for what they want. And when you do that, there's not enough money to spread around.
Starting point is 00:06:36 That's why the entire TV landscape has changed. And that's why a la carte has happened. But the irony, which we love to talk about, is that now they're bundling everywhere again. Where if you get Hulu or Disney, or you can get Max also, and you're combining all of these networks. So it's really quite funny. We talk about that tomorrow too.
Starting point is 00:06:54 So David, do we have enough of an idea? Power through that one. Do we have enough of an idea of where the revenue is going to come from so that this is just another TV rights deal and or is it something that this is more significant than that because right now it seems to me that if they weren't losing Turner not too many people would be talking about this. I think it's more because of Inside the NBA. I'm trying to I try to remind people that David
Starting point is 00:07:21 Letterman moved from NBC to CBS and people were shocked at that, but it was the end of a contract and NBC didn't want to pay the price and he didn't get the job he wanted. There's a whole show about late night wars, but he ends up on CBS and keeps going and everything's fine. There was a time when the football NFL changed networks and it ends up being just fine. People will be used to finding the Sunday night game on NBC. They'll be used to the new announcers,
Starting point is 00:07:47 maybe coming back some of the old announcers. I really don't think Adam Silver even gave this a thought. And there's a lot of talk about he's angry with Turner for saying we don't need the NBA. That's all horse hockey. It's all based on what the bids are and what is in the best interest of the NBA. And they want
Starting point is 00:08:05 games on NBC. Can you explain to me when you say that everyone's over bidding, that it's very possible that none of them will make their money back, that it'll be a losing money proposition. Can you explain to me why that's okay? So it's only okay when you don't have an asset and you decide to overbuy to overbid to get the asset and then you live with it for a while and you say, wow, the shine is gone. The juice is no longer worth the squeeze.
Starting point is 00:08:33 You've seen networks lose money. Fox is a great example. When they got into the NFL, it was an absolute money losing proposition, but it was like a loss leader to build up their network, to bring attention to the Simpsons, frankly. And eventually it worked. And then they're able to allocate revenue to make different deals look okay. Turner said to themselves, there's no way to put lipstick on the pig anymore. We're losing money on this deal. Or what was it Dan breast
Starting point is 00:09:02 enhancements on a corpse? Yeah, that's what I call it. Yeah, that's what I call it. Yeah, that's what I call it. That's what you call me. Not you, I called the Pudge Rodriguez signing that eventually led to a world series. And then he held that ball up, Dan, and then what? Don't you look foolish.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Right here like this. What a wreck. Would you have used that expression in today's world? I don't know, it's pretty funny. It was very funny. I just think you don't have the guts to have used it today. I mean, why not? Can I, putting, well, it was a really epically bad prediction
Starting point is 00:09:30 to say the signing of Pudge Rodriguez was like putting breast implants on a corpse and then watch you watch, watch you win the World Series. Like. It's about as bad as it gets, Dan. It's not a great moment for me, and yes, Tony, with Pudge Rodriguez holding the baseball as JT Snow has collided into him like an implant he held it no no what it was like that I've never held an implant no no no I mean it's more squishy but no no where were we? No. Dumpster fire. Did you copy my word of the day,
Starting point is 00:10:06 your graphics people today? I did not. What is dumpster fire? Why do you make your word of the day on nothing personal more than one word? Because today it had to be about the Mets. I had to use dumpster fire and I'm watching your show live this morning
Starting point is 00:10:22 because that's the best way to watch you is live. But you can catch yourself on DraftKings Network starting at 11 after nothing personal. And you had a graphic saying the Mets are a dumpster fire. And that was my show for 25 minutes this morning. Well, we did talk about the Mets a lot. What were your most interesting observations from everything happening there?
Starting point is 00:10:40 You're delighting in this happening to Steve Cohen. You're a hater. You're, look at you. Look how happy you are don't don't know you can't what he's beaming he's radiant he's postcoital look at him it's unbelievable what do you do it'll I cry you're what and apologize every time Sorry, so bad and short. I'm old. Put it on the pole. Are you surprised that David Samson cries after sex? I'm sorry. I went so hard on those implants.
Starting point is 00:11:18 The reason why I am glowing is that everything that happened to Steve Cohn yesterday that you all are going to talk about in and why I am glowing is that everything that happened to Steve Cohn yesterday that you all are gonna talk about in all of your shows, none of it actually matters to him. The worst part about yesterday is that his whole casino effort called Metropolitan Park in New York City near the Chop Shops, near his ballpark, it got screwed. And that's what's bothering him the most today not Lopez
Starting point is 00:11:46 or Alonzo or Diaz with his phantom BS injury his huge multi-billion dollar deal is gonna be flushed down the toilet by a state senator named Jessica Ramos look at how happy you are you're so happy that this is failing you are such a radiant hater. No, I'm just a radiant pragmatist. I think that I don't like the press conferences where, hey, we have a done deal here and they just tend to the onus does it. Owners do it all the time.
Starting point is 00:12:15 I did it in Montreal. That's how I know about it. You hold the press conference to say that something's gonna happen when you're not sure that it's actually going to happen, but you wanna fake it till you make it. And then you realize, oh, we're not sure that it's actually going to happen, but you want to fake it till you make it, and then you realize, uh-oh, we're not gonna make it. When you said, I'm so short, was that a triple entendre? I try to do things always in triple entendre.
Starting point is 00:12:35 Thank you, Izzy, for being here. Yeah, short and old is how he described his penis. That's how I heard it. Backstreet's back, all right. Since the dawn of mankind, we've cooked our food over an open flame I heard it. burgers and dogs. I love Miller Lite. Every single time my team plays on television, I am sitting behind that television screen with a Miller Lite or three. Miller Lite keeps it simple, undebatable quality, tastes as great as your barbecue, it's the beer that strips away everything you don't need and holds on to what matters the most. With the
Starting point is 00:13:20 Miller Lite in hand, grilling doesn't just taste great, it tastes like Miller time. To get Miller Lite delivered right to your door, visit MillerLite.com slash Dan. Or you can find it pretty much anywhere that sells beer. Celebrate responsibly. Miller Brewing Company Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 96 calories per 12 ounces. Hoo! Don Lebatard. Go pee pee.
Starting point is 00:13:43 Stugats. Go pee pee. This is the Don Lebatard. Go peepee. Stugats. Go peepee. This is the Don Lebatard show with the Stugats. The Mets. That's what you found most interesting though of everything that happened yesterday because they demote Jorge Lopez. I don't know what your rules are for designated him.
Starting point is 00:14:06 They didn't demote him designated for assignment. That means he either has to be traded released or waived after a period of time. What's that correction? What what's that correction? Do you go to a lower level or no? No, not necessarily. And he still will get paid his guarantee deal. But anyway, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:14:22 No. Well, what did you make of it? He throws his glove into the stands and then in his second language, says a bunch of stuff that required clarifications that were not very helpful in clarifying. I just wanted to know where the translator was. It's the CBA requires a translator to be there. Maybe he or she was with Diaz at the time,
Starting point is 00:14:41 but you cannot let Lopez speak to the media without the translator there, getting the time, but you cannot let Lopez speak to the media without the translator there getting the clarification, making it clear and doing it again for clarification. And English doesn't count. I want it said in Spanish first language because then I want to designate him. And then what though? How does an organization handle all of that?
Starting point is 00:14:59 The throwing of the glove into the stands. Some players can get away with that, not this one. Yeah, you have to be way better and you have to have a longer term contract. You have to be paid way more money. You know, we let certain players get away with more based on their salary and based on their performance on the field. Lopez, definitely not worth it. We would go in to meet the manager. We tell the manager what we were doing. We'd call the owner, tell them what we were doing, and then we'd meet the player and designate them immediately. Two women are suing Jacksonville kicker Brandon McManus, and they are alleging that he sexually assaulted them during the team's overseas flight to London.
Starting point is 00:15:35 These are documents obtained by ESPN. What can you tell me about charter flights, how to protect flight attendants, how to avoid everything that happened here. There's a rule in baseball when I got into baseball that the front office does not walk to the back of the plane and I violated that rule and I changed it and I wanted the front office. I would do laps on team charters. I knew that Randy Choate had a briefcase with alcohol when we didn't allow alcohol. I knew the gambling that was going on. I knew everything that was going on back there at the back of planes. And there is stuff that goes on. And the reason why I wanted to be a part of it is I never wanted there to be issues like that because it's
Starting point is 00:16:18 very much like a fraternity. Some after a loss, after a win, it doesn't matter when you're on the team plane. No one would know the difference. Whether it's an overnight flight or not, there is a lot of action going on, and there's different sections of the plane. There's places where players sleep. There's places where players play, and everybody knows which section is which. This is very normal and common. And so I would like those things not to happen,
Starting point is 00:16:42 and I would try to protect them from happening. And we would speak to the flight attendants in advance. We'd speak to the players in advance to avoid these situations, to explain what is respectful behavior, what we expect from them. And we did not have an issue with that with the Marlins or the Expos, and I'm thankful,
Starting point is 00:16:59 but we would take it very seriously if we did. What is the movie that you're reviewing for us this week? Can we talk about Civil War? Tell me that somebody has seen that in the container. I have not seen it. Mike Ryan saw it and wasn't a huge fan. I am a fan of most things that A24 does and I was told that this was exceptional. I was told that it was a good movie for our times, but I have not seen it yet. Yeah, I found it to be mediocre. I love Kirsten Dunst. I do love 824 movies. The concept of the movie is that two states, maybe three, you can guess which, have decided that succession is the way to go.
Starting point is 00:17:36 Sussession is the way to go, and there's a war. It's what everybody says could be coming. It's why people buy can-pees right now. And it's really, from a journalist standpoint, how do you deal with, how do you chronicle a war that is on your soil and what impact does it have? And I found it to be overbearing, overwhelming. I found it to be sad, but not scary. I found it to be so out of this world that I didn't think it was even possible.
Starting point is 00:18:03 Well the message of the movie is look out folks, we're heading this way and we're heading there now. I felt like they could have done way better, better script, a better ability to tell the story. And all I could do while watching the movie was say, they really missed an opportunity. And I don't know if we have time, I don't know what the time is,
Starting point is 00:18:22 but I came up with a top five list about the movie though. All right, let's do it. What is the top five list? What is the subject matter? Billy, I got a top five for you. Okay. And it's the funny one. It's the top five laws that cease to exist in a dystopian society in the midst of a civil war.
Starting point is 00:18:40 One of your greatest fears, right? Lawlessness in a utopian society where you, old and short and crying after sex, have to fight for yourself. David, would you just want to die in that instance to not have to deal with all of that? I would go into my safe room
Starting point is 00:18:54 and I'd have enough supplies for it to pass. Wait, hold on a second. How long could you survive in your safe room? Oh, for so long. Really? Yeah, weeks. It's not that long. More. Yeah, weeks. It's not that long. More.
Starting point is 00:19:06 Yeah, weeks isn't that long. If the world's over, they're not gonna rebuild it in a couple weeks. But no one's coming after me. No one's gonna hang out for weeks waiting for me to come out. I just need it to pass my doorstep. Keep in mind, I'm not there waiting
Starting point is 00:19:16 for the nuclear winter to end. Yeah. Put it on the poll, please. Would you prefer to have a boat or a safe room in times of dystopian nature? We know the answer to that. We've got 60 seconds left. You gotta bang through these.
Starting point is 00:19:29 Number five. Hologamy. Marry whoever you want, however many people you want. Number four, the antitrust exemption for major league baseball. Just a book on. Hologamy? Three, larceny. take whatever you want to the waiting
Starting point is 00:19:50 period for guns gone I don't understand this strange top five list world's over last thing I want is more wives number one thing law that you do not have to obey in a civil war, traffic lights. I'm so confused as to why it's specifically a civil war and why is baseball still happening? What a strange list right here. The antitrust laws? It's the apocalypse.
Starting point is 00:20:16 I need more wives. I need more guns. And hey, what are we doing about that baseball anti-Trump trust exemption? See you later, Samson. Tony, 10 seconds or less, what's the video we're about to throw at you? Dan, I went over to Las Vegas, friends of the show, Chris Palmeire has Naked City Pizza. He named a Cuban sandwich after me as a 10-day Tony, and here it is.
Starting point is 00:20:39 What's up, everybody? We're back with Chris Palmeire, City Pizza for the return of Let's Eat. Finally, we are back. We're gonna talk to Chris Palmieri, owner, operator, Buffalo style pizza. Let's go check it out. We're inside of the office bar right next to Naked City Pizza
Starting point is 00:20:57 with the man himself, Chris Palmieri. Chris, big fan of the show. Thank you for letting me come out. Buffalo style pizza, what is it? So we bake them up in a pan. Ours are all squares. So it's a little bit thicker, Chris, big fan of the show. Thank you for letting me come out. Buffalo style pizza. What is it? So we bake them up in a pan. Ours are all squares. It's a little bit thicker,
Starting point is 00:21:08 but not like New York thin and definitely not. Chicago deep dish. So we're gonna make a sandwich. We're gonna make a pizza. Should make the 10 day Tony, man. We're gonna dominate right now. We're gonna do it all. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:21:18 All right, so we got the black gloves on. We're in the kitchen. It's official. It's official now. There's no turning back. I make pizzas at my house. OK. But I need you to teach me to do it the Naked City way,
Starting point is 00:21:28 the Buffalo way. I've never made a Buffalo style pizza. But we're going to make it. We're going to make the 10 day Tony. This might be a best seller here. I don't know. Never know. You never know what the ingredients are going to be.
Starting point is 00:21:37 Pepperoni, pineapple, and the secret ingredient, bacon. All right. You're going to put your sauce first. That's our Naked City Red sauce. You just want to spread it all over. Don't be afraid man just get in there. A few moments later. You've seen better better pushing skills huh? I would have been done in the oven already but it's all right. All right now we're gonna do the same thing with the cheese mozzarella uh actually made in buffalo it's kind of you know what I mean just like you're throwing salt on a steak or whatever.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Oh see he's got the two the two hand action. Usually we're making like 10 of these at once. Two hand action, dude, no wonder. All right, so now we can go ahead and top it. It's good looking pie so far. Come on, man. Then with the pineapple, you don't want to go crazy heavy on this because again, it's gonna,
Starting point is 00:22:17 because of the acid and everything and the sugar, it's not gonna let the other stuff brown as much. All right there, all right here. And then we always finish all our pizzas before they go in the oven with dry oregano. The secret ingredient. Now it's ready to go. What's the hardest part about making a pizza,
Starting point is 00:22:32 like buffalo style? The process of making sure you have enough dough two days from now and pulling it out at the right time, letting it prove, so that way you cook it and it's a perfect pizza. So Chris, this is something that I am very familiar with, the Cuban sandwich, but you're doing it with a special spin, you're doing it on focaccia bread. So Chris, this is something that I am very familiar with, the Cuban sandwich. But you're doing it with a special spin,
Starting point is 00:22:46 you're doing it on focaccia bread. Why focaccia bread? Like what drew you to this? Something we started about three months ago. We worked on our own focaccia recipe. So every day we're baking this bread off and now we're offering it as like a secret menu, the Tony.
Starting point is 00:22:58 The 10 day Tony baby. So we're gonna hit it with the pork. Yeah, so that's just a roasted pork loin, marinated with some citrus, roasted off. So we're gonna hit it with the ham next. Oh yeah, it feels like I'm at home in my kitchen right now. That's what it's supposed to be like. Niggas City, that's what we like. Now we're gonna go with the swiss cheese over to the ham. Okay, I like it, I like it. Shredded swiss cheese. So now you got your pickles. Okay, bam. All right, then your mustard. Now brown mustard. Brown mustard is a
Starting point is 00:23:23 favorite of mine. So we throw that in the same oven? Yeah, all right in the oven, right in the brick oven. Did you live in Buffalo, came over here? Did you grow up in Vegas? Like, what's the reason why you're here? Lived in Buffalo until I was like 22. Got a job on the strip, a restaurant in a hotel. They moved me here.
Starting point is 00:23:38 I wanted to do something on my own. Being a chef for so long, able to take what I did and turn it into this. And I felt the city needed some more good pizzerias, not just cookie cutter stuff and chain stuff, you know? All right, Chris, we got the stuff out of the oven. Yep. We can't finish the 10-Day Tony pizza without adding a little bit of Mike's Hot Honey,
Starting point is 00:23:56 which is the super secret ingredient. All right, so Buffalo Style, we're not cutting it regular. Yeah, we're not cutting it in triangles. I know New Haven you kind of cut it however. Go right down the middle. Then you're going to go down. You kind of cut it however. Go right down the middle. Then you're going to go down the middle on each side of the oak. So down the middle. Then you're going to do two cuts the other way kind of third.
Starting point is 00:24:11 You know what I mean? There you go. Now those are my two favorite. You get your middle. Not that I don't like the crust. I like the crust too. I'm a, I'm a crust guy. So I'm like a corner. Yeah. Oh, the corner.
Starting point is 00:24:22 You get four corners. That's to me right there. I love that. And we got the 10 day total. So we got to cut up your signature sandwich. I'm a crust guy, so I'm like a corner. Yeah, oh, the corners, you got four corners. That's to me right there, I love that. Absolutely. And we got the 10 Daytona macchiato. So we gotta cut up your signature sandwich. We'll give everybody a view of that. Here's the key.
Starting point is 00:24:32 Uh-huh, dude, I was literally just about to do that. You the good Picasso. It's the crispest of 10. Yeah, gotta make it nice and crispy on the outside. Light, soft on the inside. All right, let's go eat this. All right, let's go. So you were telling me that your brother
Starting point is 00:24:44 actually owns a Naked City, a couple. We this. All right, let's go So you were telling me that your brother actually owns a naked city a couple We don't want them all together But my brother moved out here a little over ten years ago when we opened this location Is it cool to have your brother kind of doing the same thing? Yeah. No, it's awesome You know growing up you worked in pizzerias stuff like that, but he never was a cook or chef or anything like that He was actually a postman. My father Was a postman my aunt my cousin. It's family business. Yeah, family business wasn't my thing, but he loves coming into restaurants when he comes out to visit,
Starting point is 00:25:09 walks to everybody, house the food, you can talk to anybody. Is that, is that a cool thing to see your dad walk into a place that you've built and be like, man, this is what my sons do. Like, this is so cool. I mean, he was, you can see how happy he was when he used to come visit me on the strip. Now we brought it back to Buffalo too. So we started it here in Vegas, Buffalo, South Eutaria. And then we just opened one in Buffalo last summer.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Literally build it from the ground up and then see how happy he is. Like, it's awesome. You said you're a middle guy, you gotta get your middle slice. I'll let you grab one first. I'm a corner guy, right here has been calling me. All right. This guy right here. Got a nice little pepperoni down the cup pepperoni down
Starting point is 00:25:47 get a little spice with the hot honey. A little sweet parnati. The real sandwich on here is. Cheers man. The brown mustard, the focaccia bread, the pork loin, like everything is on the track of Cuban but still far enough away from it that it provides like a different taste. Dude everything was excellent. You guys need to come down here Naked City Pizza in Vegas. Institution. Big fan of the show, big fan of yours. Chris, thanks for hanging out man. Thanks for coming out. Starting point is 00:27:19 Don LeBretard. Or were they gonna buy them and they just jumped the shark by being like, you know what What we're gonna get all of you in the seats Could you imagine if that happened in Miami the way that the national media would respond to the heat fan base? I don't think Charlotte used jump the shark there correctly still gots I think you just threw a jump the shark in there and that's not the proper way to use jump the shark Do you even know the reference you're making? Do you know the reference you're making when you say jump the shark? Is it from Jaws? This is the Don LeVatar show with the StuGards
Starting point is 00:27:54 All right guys Trying to decide what was the most egregious thing about my uber eats order last night ordered Wing stop from uber eats. I said hey, you know what I'm in the mood for wings. No flex zone. Why do they play that song? Like it has nothing to do with the commercial they're playing Jenga and then I'm like what like this song is from seven years ago why are we playing it? Because this is how advertising works like these people just discovered that song you know we should use no flex zone. Ray Schremer., that's who she is. Sway Lee? No, no, no, not just Sway Lee. Both of them.
Starting point is 00:28:26 The whole group, yeah. So I order Wingstop. I'm like, I'm in the mood for wings. I like their fries. I like the seasoning on their fries. It's reasonably priced. Cool, get it? Hey, what's the delivery time?
Starting point is 00:28:39 35, 45 minutes? I'm like, okay. First of all, let me stop here and say, is it ever the shortest amount of time? Never. It's never, right? Never. It's always the maximum amount. And the time changes as you watch it.
Starting point is 00:28:52 And then it gets longer. And did you choose priority or no? Great question. It's three bucks extra for priority. It's only three bucks extra for you? But it was three bucks extra, but it was like, we'll get it to you in 30 to 45. I'm like, well, that, that you just it's the same thing Yeah for five minutes. You always got a three bucks always you got a five minutes
Starting point is 00:29:11 Yep, cuz it's gonna be the only two times that I didn't in my life press priority There was always another order first always another order first and I could feel my food getting cold cuz they press priority How close is the wing stop to you? I'm a big pick it up person. Not that I don't value delivery people and their time and the hard work that they put into society. Oh, yeah, no, I'm cheap. Let's be very clear right now.
Starting point is 00:29:36 This guy picked up from Papa John's. He won't pay for it on Papa John's. Oh, because of Carry Out Special. I mean, I picked up from Domino's the other day. And I watch on my little app. And as soon as it says bake, I go, by the time it takes to bake a pizza, I get from my up from Domino's the other day I said you and I watch on my little app and as soon as it says bake ago in the time It takes to bake a pizza. I get from my house to Domino's hot and ready What I'm ready no, yeah, that is little Caesar
Starting point is 00:29:55 Best bang for your buck. I love Little Caesars. But the one the one by me. God bless Little Caesars They were the sponsors of the first bowl game that my college won. However, the situation to Little Caesars by my house is dire. Are they not hot? Are they not ready? We're in dire straits at that Little Caesars. Dire how? They added these like towers that the portals that you go in and it's just grab it right? Yeah but you need the code and then they're like really picky about the code. Sometimes it's ready, sometimes it's just grab it right yeah but you need the code and then they're like really about the code sometimes it's ready sometimes it's not if you have an order to the the portal help you because you'll be waiting there to place an order forever oh forever and now there's two different like again love where's the
Starting point is 00:30:36 camera little Caesars I love you want to do anything with me I'm here Domino's any little kid beat any little kid party is sponsored by little Ca Caesar's any little kid birthday party because you can just go to Little season be like let me get 10 pieces the case now the portals is not that easy You gotta be patient cuz little Rome wasn't built in the deck. Oh boy Wow a stay an ovation here The pizza portal by the way sounds like a magical place that's where I would take my child to a party it sucks A sitting ovation. Unbelievable. A sitting ovation. Not enough to stand up. No, you can sit, but think through the class. The pizza portal, by the way, sounds like a magical place.
Starting point is 00:31:07 That's where I would take my child to a party. It sucks. It sucks. What? The pizza portal. I like it when it was- Always like you get stuck in a void. It's dark.
Starting point is 00:31:16 It smells like cheese. Back in the day, you'd walk up straight to the cashier, let me get two hot and reddies. They'd turn around- They used to have like eight ready. You'd keep it moving. Yeah, you'd keep it moving. Then occasionally you'd have to wait. Now it's not like that.
Starting point is 00:31:24 And also there's different now levels of the Little Caesars pizza. you'd have like eight ready, yeah, and you'd keep it moving. Then occasionally you'd have to wait. Now it's not like that. And also there's different now levels of the Little Caesars pizza. There's like the $5 hot and ready, and then there's like the 625 with a little more cheese. And like- Is it like less hot and less ready? I'm not-
Starting point is 00:31:38 Still ready, but you know. I'm not a lavish man. I don't- Oh wait, is that how it works? You gotta line up on it, your name's on the list? Your name's on the list, look, so like one through seven there, there's seven portals. So then when you go in, you have a QR code a lot of times.
Starting point is 00:31:51 And you just go and you scan the QR code and then the door with your name on it opens. So like, if I'm Mike M, number three on the pizza portal, then it opens and I just get my pizza out. Wait, what? Yeah, yeah, yeah. That sounds magical. But it sounds like too much. I just want pizza, man. What? Yeah, yeah. But it sounds like too much. I just want pizza man. I don't want to buck Rogers going to the future.
Starting point is 00:32:09 I also like a pneumatic tube you know those things at the bank. I miss those. I love those. If a pizza came out of that. We didn't live up to the potential of those tubes. There is so much we could have done with them that we didn't. We just did that. And then we just moved past them. It was very good. Who did that? Tony? So, by the way, I just want to point out, if I had my car, I would pick up as well, but not an option for me. Puck up on foot?
Starting point is 00:32:34 Not close enough to walk. And it was torrential yesterday, so that was the other thing. Yeah, if something on that will happen to me. So, I get the food like 55, like the very maximum amount of time That's when I got they always give you like a little time like you could wait up to yeah And then it says like 910 you're like damn it's 730 like what do you mean 910?
Starting point is 00:32:54 Well, yeah, so it was like there was a one that was way later than the quarter time I'm like what but it got in within the quarter time but towards the end of it, right? Oh, you only get like five bucks back if they don't make that time. Always. So I, well listen to this, I get my food, I go upstairs, I put the drink down, I open up the thing, I open up the box, I'm like, feels a little light.
Starting point is 00:33:14 I look in, I'm like, there's no separate thing, a fries, oh maybe the fries are in here. I open it up, there are no fries. Like, okay, like I really look forward to the fries, but I'll complain and I'll get some money back for that. Let's dig into these wings. Lemon, pepper, and hot. Like, okay, open it up.
Starting point is 00:33:31 The first thing to look at is like, these aren't wings, these are boneless, which are basically like chicken tenders. And taste completely different from wing meat. So I'm like, all right, but like, at least if it's the flavor or whatever. I take the first bite, like this is not lemon pepper This is garlic palm, which I think is the most wasteful
Starting point is 00:33:51 Flavor there is what Oh garlic parm. I think two of my favorite flavors of all time hearts of palm garlic so I Flip over the sheet for the other underside and it's like mango chili or something terrible. Mango habanero. Is it, whatever it was, it was sweet and like the laziest level of spice. And I said, so let me get this, and by the way, it was cold.
Starting point is 00:34:13 So I said, let me get this straight. I got my food late, it's cold, it's not the right order, not the right flavors, and also I'm missing fries. What was the worst part of my Uber Eats order? Did your bag say Amin or did it say Jared? Because they could have just given you someone else's order. I had that experience last night. I got the wrong order last night.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Did yours say Amin? Was it from Wingstop? No, it didn't. It wasn't Wingstop, but we ordered from a restaurant nearby and someone went to pick up three meals, it turns out, and then ended up giving everybody the wrong meal. So I had an order for Felix that was baby back ribs and my wife is vegetarian. So that was not what we ordered.
Starting point is 00:34:50 And I ended up calling the restaurant and I submitted to Uber Eats. I got a full refund because they gave me the wrong meal but when I called the restaurant, they made the meal and when I showed up, they didn't make me pay for it. So I got two full meals. Wait, did you eat the wing? The ribs?
Starting point is 00:35:04 I have them sitting in the fridge right now. Are you gonna eat them? You're not gonna eat them? I'm gonna eat them tonight. I'm gonna end up eating them. If I was a vegetarian I'd eat them. I'll eat them. I'm gonna eat all of them. I just I just it frustrated me because the guy handed me the bag I don't even know what name I'll check cuz the back still in my room right now. I'll check what names on it But I came downstairs and the guy came out the car said I mean And I said yeah, and And handed me the bag.
Starting point is 00:35:25 So why would I ever believe that this is my motor? Well, you are a celebrity, so he probably recognized you. He said Amin, like he didn't say it like he was confident. Amin? That's how he said it. I mean, as a man of culture and taste as you are, as me. Monaco. As me.
Starting point is 00:35:38 Yeah. You said as I am, like as me. Yeah. OK. Too man of culture and taste. Yeah, Tony has a mustache. So as an Uber One member, because obviously you are an Uber One member, like as me. Yeah, okay. Too bad of culture and taste. Yeah, Tony has a mustache. Thank you, true. So as an Uber One member, because obviously you are an Uber One member, as am I.
Starting point is 00:35:49 Do you pay extra for that? No. Scam. Yes you do. What? Wait. It's a different, guys, we're on a- Hey, check your Uber One app
Starting point is 00:35:57 and order the exact same thing from some different phone from somebody who does not have an Uber One app. Tell me which one's more expensive. Wow. So. Whoa. Wait. wait, are you getting scammed? I'm telling you, I hope there's not gonna be a sponsor here. But when I first got on Uber One, it was obvious. Oh, I got a discount. Left that on there for, I don't know, eight, 10, 12 months.
Starting point is 00:36:19 Go back and Anthony and I are comparing the same exact order, he does not have Uber One, I do. Mine is somehow more expensive. My priority was somehow more expensive. I have no idea if it was a glitch, but yeah. I have noticed that, I don't know if it's necessary it was just like an Uber and an Uber One thing. Like I have noticed like with my wife,
Starting point is 00:36:36 like I'll look at the same thing and it'll be different price also. Like it's not always the same price. Even right next to each other, you have like the same order and it's different prices sometimes. Who here doesn't have Uber One? I do not.
Starting point is 00:36:45 Okay, let's do this right now. Let's pick a restaurant, pick any restaurant, and we're all gonna, cause we're gonna see if, in fact, it's a just dynamic among people, or is it an Uber One versus not Uber One, or is he full of shit, slandering the great state of Uber? Where I was going with it, I mean, A social experiment.
Starting point is 00:37:04 Is sometimes, as an Uber One member, I mean, A social experiment. Yes. Is sometimes, as an Uber one member, you get discounts on certain things. They give you discounts percentage-wise. They'll give you the promo of, like, if you order $25, you get $15 off. Yes. Like, you get all those different things.
Starting point is 00:37:17 So there's times where I order Uber Eats, and the bill should be $65, and it's like $30. And I'm like, oh. OK. That never happens. So for everybody. I order, like, a plate of pasta bucks and it's like 30 bucks and I'm like, oh. Okay. That never happens. So for everybody. I order like a plate of pasta and they're like,
Starting point is 00:37:28 that'll be $110. I wanna do this experiment, is there a local restaurant that we as a show love? Cause that way. That's not. I'm just saying like, I'm not gonna say like Domino's or something, I wanna give love to someone who we love. Yeah, but also you're setting this up to give them hate.
Starting point is 00:37:46 No, no, it's not about the restaurant. It's about Uber. Well, just pick a place close to us, right? Pollo Tropical? Sure. Okay, Pollo Tropical. My Uber eats is refreshing. All right, and we're gonna get the
Starting point is 00:37:58 quarter fire grilled chicken with rice and beans. Don't tell me the price yet. Are you ordering from the one that's 1.7 miles away? Because you gotta make sure everybody orders from the same Pollo Tropical yes 1.7 miles away okay mine's locked in the one by my house so I'm gonna order from that one what are we getting? no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no fire grilled chicken with rice and beans. Got it. Okay, hold on a second. What was that again? The quarter fire grilled chicken. Not specifically white meat. No, say any. Any, any.
Starting point is 00:38:29 So they don't have any extra charge. White rice and beans. White rice and beans. Right, you're not actually gonna order this, don't worry. Add to cart. And add to cart. Are we expense this? Well, we're not gonna actually order it.
Starting point is 00:38:37 We're just gonna see what happens. It is white meat, more expensive. Okay, view cart. Mine is without. Hold on, hold on. So go to checkout, right? Oh, hold on. What-hmm. What are we? Sausage or no wait no that's because there's one one point seven miles from my house
Starting point is 00:38:53 Seven miles from here is that the oh boy hold on a second You have to set your delivery location because your locate you're delivering it to the Elsa Deliver it to the stand the fabulous Elsa Elsa. The Elsa. Well, hold on. We have to see how much more. Oh, but pickup is an option and I like pickup. We're doing a thing here. It's a social experiment. So we're all ordering from the same restaurant,
Starting point is 00:39:15 the same location, the same order. Now, right now Izzy has brought up another factor. Priority or standard? I'm gonna say, what does your priority price say? Just for the priority. Let's go with priority, because that's gonna be the most variation, right? Okay, there we go.
Starting point is 00:39:32 Select priority. Everyone has selected priority. I already saved 144 with Uber One. I have saved, yeah, it says I've saved some money here. Tip? I hope it's placed in order by accident. No, we're not we're not ordering we're here. We are we're at total Mm-hmm you have your sub total you have your priority delivery you have your taxes and other fees, and then you got your total I'm gonna start my total is 1907 mine is $18
Starting point is 00:40:00 Even yes Wow mine is $18.53. Mine's $19.60. Oh! 12.91. Billy's still ordering from his house. I'm trying to set my location. Really? 12.91. 12.91.
Starting point is 00:40:12 What the fuck is going on here? Yeah. I told you. Wait, you put priority and you still got 12.91? Is it 12.77, 8th Street, is that the one? 17.81. What's the address? My priority's four bucks, though.
Starting point is 00:40:21 And you have Uber One, right? Yeah. I've got an alert that says you can spend six dollars more and save with Uber One. Yeah, because it's- You're saving with Uber One without spending the extra six dollars. And I do not have Uber One.
Starting point is 00:40:32 No, no, no, mine has the same thing. And it's on the low end. Mine has the same thing. I also have some Uber Cash tucked away. Well, no, that's not- For a rainy day. That affects it. But what do you want me to do?
Starting point is 00:40:42 Like, this is how I order. Like, I have Uber Cash, I have Uber One, I've got the Amex stuff. I'm wheeling and dealing. Plus, on Wingstop, I love ordering Wingstop from Uber Eats because they throw you a free sandwich, a free something, and you try to pick it. Really? Yeah, dude. I don't get any of that shit.
Starting point is 00:40:59 What? Look, it just seems to me at this point, we've just proven Izzy's point, which is there's some shit going on with Uber. The apps are a scam. Backstreet's back. All right. Seems to me at this point we just proven Izzy's point, which is there's some shit going on with Uber. The apps are a scam. Backstreet's back, alright! Since the dawn of mankind, we've cooked our food over an open flame and debated the best way to grill. One thing not up for debate, grilling and beer always go together.
