That's right.
It's Thursday Thunder and it's brought to you by DraftKings.
Stay tuned because you're going to hear about
all that DraftKings has to offer throughout the show.
DraftKings, the crown is yours.
Tony, Thursday Thunder, what do we got?
Thursday Thunder, boys and girls.
Got Thursday Night Football tonight.
A inner division matchup between the Buccaneers
and the Atlanta Falcons.
We're gonna start with our first leg
of the single game parlay on Thursday Thunder.
Mike Evans, Mr. Reliable, over 50 receiving points.
You say single game parlay, is it a parlay? Same game parlay, yeah. Okay say single game parlay is a parlay.
Same game parlay, yeah.
Single game parlay, same game parlay, all in the same game.
50 yards and over for Mike Evans.
Baker's been playing awesome.
Their receivers are good.
Gonna be a fun game.
Also second leg, Bijan Robinson over 50 yards.
A little bit of worry about him being hurt.
Full practice, he's back, ready to go.
Stats are for losers, Raheem Morris said.
But I like the stats.
We rarely go under with anybody on these things.
Unders are fine.
What are we doing with unders?
That's crazy.
That's frowned upon, right?
Thank you, I mean.
So Bijan Robinson, over 50 yards.
And this is the juicy one.
This is what really takes this parlay to the next level.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a running back
named Bucky Irvin, who is good.
Bucky Irvin, any time touchdown score tonight.
Baker's going to get him in.
Mike Evans on a long pass gets tripped up at the one.
He tries to get in.
They can do a hurry up.
Bucky Irvin's in.
OK, we don't need all that.
Right up the gut.
Bucky Irvin touchdown.
Plus 475 for you on your
Thursday Thunder. Yeah
Juicy one. All right. Thank you. We've got a lot of shipping containers stardom today You've got gen CFB at the end of the show with
Jessica and Lucy you've also got pitch clock because we're immersed in baseball here. Look at Jeremy smiling over there
Giant smile on Jeremy's face.
What do we have to look forward to with pitch clock, Jeremy?
You have David Sampson, myself, and Chris
competing against each other in a very competitive game.
And Adnan Virk joined us this morning
in all of his manic glory over this postseason,
and he brought it.
I'm really excited about what we're giving you guys today.
All right, so that is coming up in the show.
I wanna get, before Amin gets outta here,
I wanna get some more Carl Anthony,
Townes thoughts from him.
But before we do this, a lot of people are talking about
what seems like a genuine curiosity,
which is Lana Del Rey, a famous person,
marrying a very not famous
person because the job he has is basically why this is so fascinating it's
not just that she's marrying a non-famous person it's that she's
marrying a non-famous person who is an alligator tour guide of some sort yes in
Louisiana and my reaction to it wasn't like oh he's not famous oh this is so
weird my reaction was he looks like Stu gots
He does kind of dirty or
You're seeing his photo now for the first time I am it's the hat
It's the must mustache goatee thing all his fingers appear to be the same size as well the redness. Yes the redness. Thank you, Tony
He's just looks like stigots
I saw this all over my my Twitter a couple of weeks ago
And there was rumors that they were dating and maybe we're getting married and I
Literally did a double take because I thought it was too bad this dude's crushing heaters for sure
Oh for sure and and his voice has deteriorated over the years as well
What is an alligator tour guide?
What is that?
Just, I mean, I know what it suggests,
but that can't be much of a profession.
Is there a big tourist industry?
Down in the Bayou, Dan?
Of people just wanting to go see alligators?
In Key West, you can hop on an airboat
and you go around and they take you an hour tour.
You should take Dan to the Everglades.
That would be great.
Have you ever been to the Everglades?
Dan's been to Shark Valley.
It's a loud boat.
Dan's been to Shark Valley.
Loud boat.
It's unpleasant. An airboat is quiet as its capital been to Shark Valley. Yeah. It's a loud boat. Dan's been to Shark Valley. Loud boat.
It's unpleasant.
An airboat is quiet as its cap,
though that's the wrong phrase.
It's a bad experience.
The airboat is, it's too noisy.
Nobody, nobody likes being on an airboat.
It's unpleasant.
But alligators, we have so many of them down here.
I can't imagine that as an industry.
Anybody want, like once you've seen a couple of alligators,
that's about it.
I'm done.
I don't need to see anymore. I've done it recently, oddly enough,
and it's just like, oh look, there's an alligator nose
popping out of the water, and then like,
oh I just got a radio that yonder, down yonder,
we can go see another alligator nose,
and then we go down yonder.
What do you mean down yonder?
They're in backyards around here all over the place.
Every place is like different alleys of water,
and it's just, it's all over the place.
It's not very exciting exciting to your point.
Yeah, I've never actually really thought about it
that hard until right now.
Cause I've been on like whale tours and like dolphin tours.
Those are cool.
Whale watching's cool.
You're right, Dan.
Alligators, they're just, they just sit there.
It's like up there's an alligator nose, up it went away.
All right.
That's what it is.
That's what that guy,
well, Lennon Del Rey married that guy right there.
That's, that's how he moved around. Oh, there's another one. Up it went back down. That's what that guy who Atlanta Del Rey married that guy right there. That's that's how
It went back down. Yeah
Is that what oh, it's a log
The logs are tricky day. You got the moss on it. I just like the idea of us workshopping a
Louisiana Stu gots character
Because like James Carville just talking about alligators
Stu easy Anna Stu easyez-iana, yeah.
We can make that better, Jer-Bear.
That was a good first try, though.
I did my best on workshopping.
You had a Daniel Day-Stuess yesterday.
All credit to Jer-Bear on that one.
I mean, I am, I shouldn't be, I guess,
but I find myself genuinely confused
that Knicks fans and people in general
are so down on Carl Anthony Towns as a player and as a fit that
Everyone seems to be thinking that the Knicks did something
Controversial or risky by trading a couple of players one of whom is terribly inefficient and the other of whom is a nice player
But is not Carl Anthony Towns
You know, I got to quote my good friend Habeser on this one where it's like,
feels like half the NBA is playing its games
on paper right now.
On paper they're really good,
but you know, there's all sorts of risks.
And we talked about that yesterday,
about the history between Towns and Tibbs
and all that stuff.
But the reality is, he's a great three point shooter,
and you just added him to a team where
Jalen Brunson now has better spacing.
And so, and they have a center issue
because Mitchell Robinson is hurt
and obviously Isaiah Hardenstein isn't there anymore.
So this was a good deal for the Knicks
unless it doesn't work.
And one of the reasons.
That's a weird one.
Is that a gator?
Well one of the reasons.
Oh, it went away.
One of the reasons why it wouldn't work
is because Carl Anthony Towns succumbs
to the pressure of New York City, right?
So it's a very intense, as we talked about yesterday.
He tweets, oh my God, I can't believe I got traded,
and people say, hey, stop acting like a b***h
when you come to the garden, right?
So, I found a way, a foolproof plan
to make Carl Anthony Towns Teflon.
No one will even touch him, everyone will leave him alone,
and they'll celebrate him in New York all the time.
Are you guys ready?
Yes.
All right, he's got to
Oh, you've got props.
Tap into his Dominican heritage.
He's already starting.
He's already starting to do that.
Que lo que.
Yes, okay, so I got a top five list of things
that he can do.
All right.
Okay, let's go.
First OLI, openly campaign to be grand marshal
at the Dominican Day parade
Well, I number two do a brand deal with Mama Juana
All right, no, those are all oh lies those are both oh lies number five number five
He's got to start wearing a Dominican flag
Beaded necklace or bracelet like this one or maybe the headband.
You know like more prom.
Yes, number four, every answer in media scrums,
Tony has to start with que lo que.
Que lo que.
Number three.
Number three, he's gotta demand that post game meals
are mafongo.
Or tregopa if you're doing an early game.
Number two, the pre-game intros.
Gotta change it to dembo. Dembo. Or bachata. Or TREGOPPA if you're doing an early game. Number two, the pre-game intros.
Gotta change it to DEMBO.
DEMBO.
Or Bachata.
Number one.
Number one, hookah at half time.
Stu Gatz here.

I don't like smutty either.
Stugats.

This is the Don Lebatardpe Show with the Stugarts.
Very excited to see this face, this attitude, this comedy.
You know her from The Daily Show, from Full Frontal.
She's back with two new podcasts, Choice Words, it's an interview show, and a new weekly show,
The Daily Beast podcast.
She co-hosts that with Daily Beast editor Joanna Coles and she calls it they call it the best dinner party
You've ever been to just without any food, which makes it actually the worst dinner party. It's actually the worst
Yeah, the worst dinner party, but she is great in general and I enjoy listening to her
Thank you for making the time for us. I do appreciate it, Samantha.
Oh my, I am so delighted to be here.
I can't even tell you.
I hear the delight in your voice.
I want to start though with Kamala Harris.
You've talked to her a few times.
You've interviewed her a few times before,
recently on Full Frontal.
What do you make of how it is that she's doing
and the movement in this country toward her?
How relieved specifically were you
to see Joe Biden step down?
Oh my God.
I felt it in my bones.
Like it didn't even seem real when it was happening.
I think I was probably in the car.
I think I was in my car actually
and he sent the letter out on X and I kind of like,
I scanned it quickly and I was like,
oh my God,
these Russian trolls are getting so good.
This seems so real.
And then I felt a sadness because I was like,
oh, it's so painful, just sort of imagining
the conversations, like the closed door conversations
that were happening.
But then I was just like relief washed over me.
And then it's been just like a really,
it's been a great trajectory ever since, I think.
I mean, whew, I mean, it's a wild ride.
For sure.
How do you think she's doing?
And do you even understand how it is, for example,
do you understand how women would vote
the other side of this?
I don't relate to that.
I don't relate to that particular move.
I really don't feel like the GOP is currently
speaking to me and my needs or the needs of women
in general or even really thinking about us at
all in a healthy way.
So yeah, I don't really, I can't really say that I, I can't really say that I understand
at all.
Well, what do you see?
What do you see as a Canadian when you see that after the debates, MSNBC and CNN are
talking to undecided voters and doing focus groups on undecided voters.
How could it be even possible that two months
from the election, there's still an undecided
that might change with some information
over the next two months?
When Canadians are, they're decisive people.
Oh, well, let's not get crazy.
I do think like it is, it does create mental chaos in me.
I can't imagine.
I just feel like the two candidates could not
be more starkly different.
And I don't understand how you could possibly
be kind of like wiggle waggling between them.
I mean, I don't understand it at all.
I actually also don't understand conversations where we're like, you know, I'd really love a little bit more detailed
policy from Kamala Harris on the price of grain. Like, how is she going to navigate?
How is she going to navigate the longshoremen strike? I'm like, these are all like big issues.
They're really important. But the other guy is currently doing like a good body contest
with Joe Biden, who's
not even in the race anymore.
Like he's literally on stage saying that he has a great body and wants to do like a push
up competition.
I'm like, there's really no, I'm not expecting any policy details from the Donald Trump camp.
So I'm not sure why we're being so specific with her.
And is that really going gonna change people's minds?
Like if you can't see a difference,
I just don't know what is in your head.
I don't know what's happening.
Do you never tune into anything?
Like how, do you never, I don't, anyway.
Folks, folks, I work out, I work out a lot.
Work out, I just work out.
I don't have time to listen, read, anything.
I just work out. I don't have time to listen, read anything. I just pump iron.
You missed.
I appreciate that you played with him there, but that was his fake Joe Biden.
It's a very limited.
Samantha, good to see you.
How's it going?
I want to, you know what?
I want to go back in time.
I want to reverse the polarity of the earth.
I want to go back in time and I want to appreciate your impression.
Hey, I appreciate that. I want to rewind. It's great I want to appreciate your impression. Hey, I appreciate that.
I want to rewind. It's great.
You're not so bad yourself.
Thanks.
Can we just rewind the Earth? It's fine.
It's okay. You tried to play with him and I understand why it is you didn't totally understand what his fake Joe Biden was.
Thanks for playing with me. Now I love it.
Now that I know, you know when you know, you know.
And now I do and forgive me.
I'm with you.
Samantha, you know, obviously American society
is rife with misogyny,
but I think a lot of people would be surprised
to find out that Pakistan,
the country that people would feel
is a lot more oppressive towards women,
has twice elected a woman prime minister
to lead their country.
And we have yet to do it once.
Why do you think the American public is so resistant
to the idea, or portions of the American public
are so resistant to the idea of a woman president?
Well, you know what, I always say,
and listen, I don't think that that's necessarily necessarily I mean, you know, it's it's all there. It's all the
evidence is all there for us to see. Maybe this is the time I'm so hopeful
that it is it will be incredible. I I always say and this is so this is either
going to hit people where they live or not or they're going to be like that's
not true. But I do think that America kind of hates its mom
and really seeks the approval of its dad in general.
There's like some daddy issues here
and also some serious mommy issues.
That is so good.
Put it on the poll, Juju.
Does America kind of hate its mom
and seek the approval of its dad?
I mean, it's kinda all everywhere you look.
Just, it's just everywhere you look, don't worry.
She nailed it.
I can relate.
I'm voting for Kamala, so.
Oh yeah, oh boy.
Spoiler alert.
Nobody is going to be surprised by that on this show,
that we are all voting the same way.
It is why, this, hold on. show that we are all voting the same way. It is why
middle Chris
You know what but I love to but I just love to confirm for people that
You know just go with your heart one
It's one of the most private places in America for you to make your
Your tough decision and you should definitely make the decision that I want everyone to make. But if you don't, you don't have to tell a soul.
Like for instance, in the-
This is not an echo change.
Echo change.
You know, when we were voting for a mayor last time
in NYC, I voted for myself.
I wrote myself in as a candidate.
Really? Did you really?
How'd you do?
You can do anything you want.
I think I got six votes.
She also hasn't been indicted yet.
Someone would have to look it up.
I mean, so she's actually doing really well.
Yet.
No.
Never say never.
You left The Daily Show at about the same time
as Jon Stewart did.
Are you watching now on Mondays?
Do you find yourself longing any nostalgically at all
for that time?
I, like, I don't yearn for it. I'm happy. I loved my time there. So for 12 whole years, it was incredible. Like what a training ground. I always loved John. I love his perspective. I don't yearn
to go back there. But I think they're doing I think they're doing a great job. And they're a
very like critical voice, very important voice.
I don't wanna go back and work there or anything,
but I appreciate that they're still there.
I understand that.
I wasn't really asking you necessarily if you missed it.
It's just that you guys were a rocket ship
and I know that people don't understand
how hard it was to also do that, but it had to be hugely fulfilling
to be in the middle of that at that time.
So many hungry comedians doing creativity right.
Oh, yes.
Oh, I agree with you.
I mean, like, what a group of people.
It just was constant.
I mean, it was very hard.
Yeah, it was very hard work, but like,
but it was really soul
satisfying and when you brought in something that you were really, could really be proud
of the work, it was hard to achieve.
It was super fun at times.
It was really like catastrophically draining at times, but it was like really cool for
me, especially having grown up in Canada, like having no right to, having really no right to be standing on the floor
at a political convention and talking to people
and just like grabbing whoever I wanted.
It was an incredible time.
Yeah, it really was.
What do you make of all the changes
in late night television that always result
in men getting the jobs except for Taylor Tomlinson on CBS.
But just everything that's changed
in late night television that makes it
from when you grew up to something
that's now being digested mostly in clips.
I know it has really changed a lot,
but you know, all of the whole entertainment industry
has just like contracted in a way that when you're in it,
you really see it and you really feel it.
Like it's just, it's changing so much just based on kind of like economics and who's
the creative force at the top and what is, you know, how are we like incentivizing making
television and what are we prioritizing?
And it's a really difficult time to work in television
actually. And so it's very natural that changes would happen in those realms. It's very expensive
to make late night television. It's not surprising to me at all that it's changing and will ever
change and will continue to change. There's really no... and I love Taylor Tomlinson by the way, I think she's great. And I've
interviewed her and she's so nice and I totally want to hang out with her. But yeah, there's
really no, you know, with full frontal missing, there really isn't a voice who's really leading
the charge in the same way, I will say.
I could do it.
I could do it.
I'd love to do late night.
See, this is what I'm talking about.
Joe Biden, you have a second life.
He's a bad guy.
Oh my God, wait a minute.
Yes, what?
That was Joe Biden, right?
Yes.
He's in the studio with you.
That's correct.
Presently, yeah.
That's how real that impersonation is, yes.
Yeah, wow. You were fooled by that. That's how real that impersonation is. Yes.
Yeah, wow.
You were fooled by that.
That's amazing.
I've got to take some credit.
You know, if it wasn't for me, Joe wouldn't be anywhere.
I told Sasha, Michelle, Malia that Joe,
he needed a shot and I gave it to him.
They would all be terrible, terrible.
Even sleepy Joe, he'd be asleep by then.
He wouldn't even be up.
He'd be asleep in Barack.
He'd be terrible too.
This is just like, this is like,
this is like Dancing with the Stars.
Thanks, we appreciate it.
I'm the best dancer.
Are we human or are we dancer?
Hey!
You are a dancer, you're a lyricist,
you're a dancer, you're doing it all.

Welcome to the Pitch Clock.
Here's the pitch, a two-part baseball segment.
Combining a nostalgic baseball trivia game
and an interview with an expert.
This is the Pitch Clock. And it expert. This is the Pitch Clock.
And it's another episode of the Pitch Clock.
And this time it's the MLB playoffs.
Could not be more excited.
Wild card actions already been happening.
David Sampson is here, Chris Cody is here,
Adnan Virk will be here later to break down
what's been happening in the wild card round.
But David and Chris join me for Taylor's Trivia.
Taylor, tell us what we're going to be doing today.
We've got a draft today.
The goal is drafting the most pitching wins
in the playoffs all time.
And note, these numbers are before this playoffs.
We'll go five rounds, snake draft.
The order I have is Chris, David, Jeremy.
Okay. This is gonna be bad. All right, so who's going first? Chris, David, Jeremy. Okay.
This is gonna be bad.
All right, so who's going first?
Chris, the clock has already started.
The clock has started, it's on you.
Remember there is 20 seconds because this is the pitch clock
and so your 20 seconds are taken away.
Andy Pettit, it's a great pick.
He's locked in right now because that's the number one answer.
Yeah, that's the number one answer.
I think we all knew that.
It's everything from there.
Andy Pettit at 19 wins. Wow. David, you have the number one answer. I think we all knew that. It's everything from there. Andy Pettit had 19 wins.
Wow!
David, you have the second overall pick.
Tim Linsacum.
Tim Linsacum, five wins. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Alright, so I've got back-to-back picks. Oh, we're based off. We're just drafting. There's no strikes. I can't get wrong here
You can't get it wrong, which is good news. I mean you can sort of get it wrong. You could get zero
Based off of where David just sent my I want to do that one. I'm no I'm gonna say Madison home gardener

Okay, I'm gonna go ahead and say Roger Clemens
Roger Clemens sixth on this list, 12 wins.
Okay, all right, I'll take it.
I mean, man, petted off the top is like one of those.
It's a mature moment.
Yeah, all right, so David, you are back up in this.
I could see the stress on your face
that we are feeling internally as well.
I'm going through all the playoff teams right now
because my mind is blanking from the past.
I'm gonna go with the Dodgers Clayton Kershaw.
Oh boy.
Fifth all time, 13 wins.
Really?
Huh, that's against everything Stugatz
has ever said about Clayton Kershaw.
Compiler.
That's actually why I guessed it.
I love that.
So me for two.
Chris back to back picks. Chris is for two. Chris back to back picks.
Chris is up, he has back to back picks here.
Chris, your second pick.
I have one pick, but I'm just gonna milk this 20 seconds.
Is here while I'm thinking of my next guess.
We do this in fantasy drafts, right?
Yeah, you just wait until the very end.
10 seconds.
All right, shut your mouth.
I'm gonna take Mike Musina as my first guess.
That's a good pick. Mike Musina first pick. That's a good pick.
Mike Musina, seven.
That's it?
Okay.
That is shocking to me that he only had seven wins.
All right, Adnan Virk now here as our expert
on the pitch clock, up to date here on Thursday morning
as we record this and lots of baseball action
has happened in the wild card round.
Adnan Virk, of course, working for MLB network during this postseason and we got to
start with my Detroit Tigers because the Tigers sweep the Houston Astros they had
a point two percent chance of even making the playoffs on August 11th now
they advanced to the American League Division Series a couple of things for
you first go ahead pinch hit base in the eighth inning or later in Tigers
postseason history happened yesterday they're the fourth team in history to win
a playoff series after being ten games back of a playoff spot with at least 110 games
into the season. All the others won the World Series. And for the Astros, this is the first
time since 2016, since Barack Obama was president since before
Alex Bregman was in the big leagues that they're not in
the ALCS. They're knocked out here in the wild card round.
What is the bigger deal here? Adnan the Tigers advancing
after everything I just said or the Astros being eliminated
in the wild card round long before Barber and Hymer long
before COVID. I mean, I love love the perspective bringing in these Tigers winning it
listen, love the fact you pop in the wagon Jeremy my old
friend Mike kiss from college to die hard Tigers fans losing
his mind he'll be happy to have some more Tiger support,
you know Tom sell it was the famous famously were the Tigers
and Magnum P I said the Tigers make the world series you can
be that guy the modern day Magnum P I but it's a great
story do it. I mean, I think the bigger story is
the Astros getting knocked out only because, as you said,
they've been always habitually in the LCS.
But Ryan Pressley specifically had
converted his first 14 postseason save opportunities.
The fact that Kerry Carpenter got the rally started,
that eighth inning rile, that one out single.
Then he goes to 30, scores in a wild pitch.
But let's talk specifically about that at bat.
Because this is why you and I love baseball is the matches
because it's a team game, but it's individual moments.
And Andy Abanias gets sent up there by AJ Hinch to pinch hit.
This is Andy Abanias with just a buck 67 in September.
He had not driven in a run since September 10th.
Think about that.
He's facing Josh Hader, as you mentioned, in terms of payroll,
signed a $95 million contract specifically for situations like this.
This is where Hader is going to step up and make his money.
And there was a close, close pitch.
Who's strike pitch?
I thought it was strike three.
Ring him up.
Instead, no.
And that's why baseball is so great.
One pitch changes the at bat.
Instead of the strike three, the next pitch was a ball, and the next pitch he rips the
left for a double.
Hader signs a $95 million five-year contract, up three hits walked two and won in a third. He's
never been a guy who looks to pitch more than one inning and there's an example
there that the Tigers took advantage. Let's move to the other American League
wild-card series here. Royals sweep the Orioles and the Orioles just score one
run over two games after being a dominant offense earlier in the year.
Looked like a team that was going to win the American League
East.
The disappointment for the Orioles here,
losing those 10 straight postseason games.
Want to hear a little bit about that,
and also how the Royals stack up with those mighty Yankees
as Aaron Judge, the MVP, is in this series,
and Bobby Witt, the likely runner-up,
is in this series between the Yankees and the Royals.
Yeah, I'm with you. I think that series between the Yankees and the Royals.
Yeah, I'm with you.
I think that series is going to be a ton of fun,
but we'll talk Orioles first and their futility.
Second consecutive year, they don't get to finish their offense.
Their offense disappeared in the second half.
Adley Rutch, in particular, was not very good
after the All-Star break.
They went one for 13 runners in scoring position
and five for 32 combined.
I mean, that is just horrific.
And they've got numerous offseason questions right now. I think manager Brandon hides in the hot seat.
I think Corbin Burns is going to be gone.
They can't afford him.
He's going to get $300 million from the Met or whomever.
He's going to get a Garrett Cole type contract.
So he's going to be gone.
And this is awfully disappointing because it gets very easy.
So we have this young collection of talent.
We're going to be there for years to come.
It doesn't always work that way.
And now this is back to back years that they've been completely
dusted and taking care
of business.
So 0 and 5 the past two years, as you mentioned,
10 straight postseason games.
It's ugly for Gunnar Henderson and company.
But great news for Bobby Witt in the Royals.
We talked about Bobby Witt's speed.
He got to first base 4.14 seconds.
Amazing.
Infield signals when he beats out for the go ahead run.
So true small ball for the Royals
as they win this game two to one.
And I think, you know, he's the AL Batting champion
for good reason.
It's second consecutive game in which he had the decisive hit.
RBA single, the one nothing game.
So you can't spell hit without wit.
And he's been awesome to see.
And the Royals story overall, Jeremy,
I know you're all about the Tigers,
but they lost 106 games last season.
And a 30 win improvement back in October,
trying to win the World Series first time since 2015.
So it's an incredible story. The Yankees are heavily favored. They're an eight win improvement.
They're 94 wins. Royals were 86 but don't tell the Kansas City with Bobby Witt and things possible.
And you're right specifically I'm curious to see Witt versus Judge the top two MVP candidates.
I got the Yankees winning it in four but again I wouldn't be shocked if Casey pulls it off.
How about three AL Central teams a division that because of the White Sox finished under 500 overall because they were,
had the most losses in the history of the game and yet three AL Central teams advance and now you have them and the Yankees in the American League.
It should be spectacular seeing the Tigers against the Guardians and of course the Royals against the Yankees
Okay, since this since there's a low barrier here like not that many wins is gets you high on this Yeah, except you have petted. So they never did any real winning. They made the playoffs a ton. So I'm gonna go with
Greg Maddux eighth on the list
11 okay. Okay. See now you're you're sending me in a direct to David. I have 30 wins David
You're your third pick here David
I'm going through the playoff games today now
Okay, that's great
Oh, I just Justin Verlander. That's a great guess number two David number 17 wins
No, oh That's a great guess number two David number 17 wins. No
Oh, that's such a good one. I was waiting to even make a roster this year crazy crazy. Oh man Okay, I'm screwed. All right, so I have back-to-back. I have back-to-back picks here
Who did David just guess David just got Justin Verlander?
Based off of what you just said my only concern about the pick that I want to make is that he also was a reliever
Actually
I'm gonna stick around there max Scherzer cuz I got to think he had so much
But he had those Nationals that Nationals run know where he might have gotten a few wins in that postseason
Yeah, that's a bad place. You think so. It might be I'm a little worried about it now Mac
Sure gotta be winning. You got 19 so that's a bad thing. You think so? It might be. I'm a little worried about it now. Mack sure he's got to be winning. He got 19. So that's seven, 37. All right.
Sure. Not bad. And it's, it's there. I'm not happy about it. I'm all right. I know the
answer. Like there has to be a very old school answer here, but if I'm in my, if I'm in my
pocket, one of my favorite pitchers ever,
I know he was successful in the postseason,
and he played for a lot of teams,
El Duque, Orlando Hernandez.
Is he on this list?
No, you'd be surprised how many playoff teams
he played for, David.
He had a run with the White Sox as well.
All right, that's not bad.
That's not bad, David.
So we've been through three rounds in one extra pick and yeah
It's big David is back up here for his fourth pick
I feel like I'm gonna end up coming in last cuz they each got two of the top two David your fourth pick
I'm still going through this
And I'm up to the next series I'm gonna take
the Astros Yankees guy,
Garrett Cole.
Garrett Cole, solid pick, 10 win.
So let's move to the National League now
because we're dealing with the Dodgers and the Padres
because the Padres just swept the Atlanta Braves
another sweep.
That's the third one we're talking about here.
And the Padres were pretty dominant.
Obviously, you know, those games were close,
but you see lots of special things from the Padres.
You see Michael King on the mound in game one.
You see Fernando Tatis in his heroics.
Then they become the first team in MLB postseason history
to have six consecutive hits and hit for the cycle
in the same inning, and they did all of it with two outs.
That Padres offense is special.
They're the only team in baseball just about as hot
as the Tigers were down the stretch.
So at an end, this is a chance to focus on two things.
One, the matchup between the Padres and the Dodgers.
The last time the Padres were in that wild card round
and played the Dodgers in the next round,
they took down the Dodgers who were the one seed
just like this experience now.
And how about this, 10 of the 12 series in the wild card
thus far in these three years that they've had the wild card
round be what it is, have been sweeps.
So I wanna hear your thoughts on all of these sweeps
across the wild card round and what you think
this Dodgers-Padres series can be.
Because for me, I believe it's the division series
that should have the most eyeballs on it.
I guess just one team gets momentum
and if they set things up a certain way,
you take care of business that game too.
The Tigers specifically, if you have your ace winning that game one on the road,
and then you can just empty the tank with your bullpen,
you can very quickly make it a sweep.
So I don't think they should expand it necessarily.
You know, originally the Wild Card series was only one game.
They've added a team.
I think the best of three is cool.
But I would like to see more games and just all these sweeps that we've seen so
far.
One concern I will say for the Podgers is Musgrove left.
He had right elbow tightness, two out in the fourth,
so hopefully nothing too crazy there,
but it was the same area that he got hurt earlier this season.
So I do think that's something that bears watching
because the Podgers, although they do have depth,
Musgrove is their number two game starter,
so hopefully he's OK against the Dodgers.
Listen, that's going to be an amazing series. There's no question about it. Look, we have to talk about the one series
that is alive here. It's the Brewers and the Mets. And, you know, back in 2003, I thought I saw what
was going to be the greatest performance from a 20-year-old in a postseason run ever with Miguel
Cabrera. And then Jackson Churio started playing this postseason. And he now had a two game tying home runs
in the same postseason game last night.
He's the second player in Major League history to do it.
The other is a guy named Babe Ruth.
I think that's pretty great.
Both of them were to the opposite field.
Only four of his 21 homers this season
were to the opposite field.
Jackson Churio is a star.
The Mets have been playing out of their minds.
What are your thoughts on
tonight's game? What's the matchup that you're most
focused on that you believe will decide this game and
ultimately who moves on to play the Philadelphia Phillies.
I mean the fact that kids 20 years old and it's a 2020
season is nothing short of remarkable. Now they're going
to have their seasons on the line. You know as far as the
pitching matchup Tobias Myers against Quintana,
both guys really good.
Myers to three, R.A., Quintana three, seven, five.
I'm curious specifically, you mentioned matchups,
Edwin Diaz in this game,
because at times he looks electric,
at times he's a little bit shaky.
So I'm curious to see if the Mets have the lead,
Diaz versus any of those.
Diaz, Adamus, gonna be a lot of fun to watch,
because probably Diaz was ready yesterday,
but you know, Carlos Mendoza said he didn't want to use him for more than an inning, so I'm curious to see what's gonna be a lot of fun to watch because probably Diaz was ready yesterday, but you know, Carlos Mendoza
said he didn't want to use him for more than an inning. So I'm curious to see what's going to happen. If you have the Mets lead,
how can Diaz fold up on the road in Milwaukee? Brewers we know again have not had much postseason success. And as far as the Mets
are concerned, just like the Braves, they're 89-win team. They've been playing with House Money. Lindoros had an incredible run.
He's gonna be the runner-up for MVP to obviously Otani I love the Entos. He had that huge hit in game one.
So I'm just grateful we're going to have a game three.
I love seeing cheerio step up.
You know, Adam's winker's been kind of fun.
Those guys have been barking back and forth.
So I wish one of them was a picture.
That's the match about pick if one of them was on the mound
facing each other, but hopefully a winker gets a double
starts popping off to a Thomas and we have a good,
good old brawl there on the field.
This is going to be a blast of a game three the only one that we get to
watch so all eyes will be on it and when Diaz let's see if he can have a little
bit more success than Josh hater did and just recapping here it will be the
Tigers against the Guardians it will be the Royals against the Yankees it will
be the Padres against the Dodgers and then ultimately the winner of Brewers
Mets moves on to take on those Philadelphia Phillies Adnan
Hopefully we'll have you back maybe next week to talk more postseason baseball here on the pitch clock
Cannot wait for it. Hope you have a blast watching game three and moving forward go tie. All right. Thanks much for me
I appreciate man lock me in for next week, and I got the Guardians over the Tigers
I hope I'm wrong just for your sake. Yeah, you will be wrong. They're not even getting to Emmanuel class.
Say it's not even going to happen.
He won't have a lead.
And now, all right, go Tigers.
Let's head back over to our game with David Sampson and Chris
Cody.
So I'm up for somebody.
Yeah, Chris is back to back.
And these are your final two picks, Chris.
So you have your last pick.
You have the last pick of the fourth round
and the first pick of the fifth round.
And I only have one pick left.
I'm gonna go with Mark Molder and David Cohn.
Ooh, David Cohn's a good one, I think.
Molder played for the Cardinals.
I know the A's did not make the playoffs,
I don't think a ton, but I don't know, man.
Molder and Cohn.
Can hear you judging my pick.
Cohn had eight wins
cone had eight Mark Mulder three. Okay. All right, Mark Mulder had three. Okay, so Chris's number at 48
48 David's got what 45 with more pick? Yeah. Oh boy
David you need someone with four wins to take the read I for to win go with your boy. Oh
I'm looking at a piece of memorabilia
from the 03 World Series.
You had to have four to win.
And I'm thinking about the Yankees.
And I'm going to go with the guy who we beat,
but I remember him being really good.
I'm going to go with David Wells.
David Wells is a good one. David Wells 10 wins. No
Yeah, all right, so he's at 55. It's impossible for me to win. I would have
Jeremy you need
20 yeah, so it's impossible and Andy Pettit was the best with 19
I'm gonna go ahead and give you my guy here. I'm gonna go with Kurt Schilling. Thank you
Where was that Kurt Schilling good one seventh? He had 11 wins. Yeah, where's Pedro on this list?
Anywhere
You could have walked off with Beckett
That's where I thought you were. Yeah when you started saying oh three Wow so ultimately here David
Sampson is the champion here
Can we hear Taylor a few of the other guys at the top of the list that we didn't get before we wrap this up?
Number three was John Smoltz Oh
Fifteen you guys heard me say it. I wasn't sure he was a reliever for part of the time. He was a starter
I should have said Smoltz. Was Glavin up there glad Tom Glavin was fourth. Yep, damn it
I went molding gone through the Braves. Oh, it's not X was the miss my goodness
The other people with double-digit wins was Chris Carpenter CC sabathia Dave Stewart and whitey Ford Wow
The sabathia is another good one man Man, what a show. Playoffs! The playoffs!
Playoff baseball!
