Starting point is 00:00:40 Jersey City, New Jersey, please drink responsibly. Hi, can I take your order, please? Is that it? Let me get a quarter pounder with cheese, a flair of fish, oh please make grittas, a McMuffin and a large coffee, a hamburger, cheeseburger, hot brown, hot cake, vanilla corn shake, and hot fudge, sunny ba ba ba ba This is the Dan LeBattor Show with the Stoogats Podcast Folks, women, men, children, listening to my voice, it is time to update March Sadness. Yeah!
Starting point is 00:01:30 And it's going well. We are getting down into our Elite Eight. We have Elite Eight, we have reached the Elite Eight, and it's big time. And remember, March Sadness is presented by Get Your Guide. Discover over 100,000 unforgettable travel experiences in the US and around the world at GetYourGuide.com. There you go, Ken. Nailed it.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Yeah. Bounce back. Yeah. The draft carrying. We are so back. Matchup number one from Monday. Which region? In the song region, we had Pukunakua versus Bills, Bills, Bills.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Who do you guys think won? Oh man, I think Pukunakua's overrated. Y'all already know. The winner and moving on one seed Puka Nuka We're not to go through the whole song you get it we've kind of really like bills bills bills man I thought that was pretty good, but you know, yeah, it's strong. It's strong I mean Jeremy does this thing but the next matchup wrong, it's strong. It's strong. I mean, Jeremy does his thing. But the next matchup, Wrong Song versus Sports Whisper.
Starting point is 00:02:28 This might be the... Who do you guys got? Wrong Song's a good one. Baby! You're wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. I heard you taking airflow. I like the other one a little bit better. No, really?
Starting point is 00:02:39 Sports Whisper's song was really good. Sports Whisper's song was really good. It was creative, but Wrong Song, that's a final 14. It's a great vocal performance, no doubt. Yeti's song's doing well in this so far. Okay. I'm a little suspicious. In the third matchup, we have Two Seed,
Starting point is 00:02:55 We're All Gonna Die versus Cinderella making a deep run, Taylor singing Carry Us, Jalen Brunson. Who do you think won that? Wow. This is the Dan LeBattard show with Sugaz. Taylor. Our fans would support Taylor. Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Ah. What? Someone needs to look into this. Maybe that's the next episode of Sugaz's favorite podcast. Pablo, Tory figures it out. This song is kind of like Purdue. It's like, okay, it's good, but like, Zackeady75, like, come on.
Starting point is 00:03:27 It's gonna run into an absolute flame thrower at some point before the final four. What about the last matchup? I mean, pretty much all that's left is Yeti. All right, the final matchup. Yeti, save us! It's like the ACC. The final matchup here is Jeremy singing
Starting point is 00:03:41 Dan the Ramblin' Man, which is one of my favorites, versus not Yeti, but from Andrew Streeter, the Franco Harris song. So who do you guys like there? This one's tough. Gotta be Ramblin' Man. It is tough. I think Sean. Oh, what?
Starting point is 00:03:53 Wow. What? Making sure you guys are on your toes. Once twice? Are you guys hearing that? They stayed for the late game, and won that one too. I don't know about this, man. I've had my suspicions since the musical loss of these guys
Starting point is 00:04:10 I'm just saying there's a check check the basements. There might be a server form in there So that is our sports region our song region So so Puka Nakua goes up against wrong song in the next round, and then We're All Gonna Die goes up against Franco Harris. These seedings again. We need to reseed. Oh my God. We need to reseed. Taylor got robbed.
Starting point is 00:04:31 He did. He did. Carry on Jalen Brunson. Can we hear that one more time and send it off properly? I know you gotta find it, I'm sorry. Yeah, I know. We'll fill. We'll fill.
Starting point is 00:04:41 We got it. Taylor, it's high time that we get another song. You should have like sang because UNC got eliminated. No, he's gotta give us, he got fouled from Tom Thibodeau. Yeah, but you have to put more songs in the field is what Mike is saying. Taylor, can we get a song? The crowd goes into a delusion.
Starting point is 00:04:59 Winning in the playoffs, not an illusion. It's a heat check he's on fire But let it fly Saw the contract they said he was overpaid man Said that he was overrated and we had no plan They were wrong and I am beaming. Hear the mecha say, carry us, Jalen Bronson. Thumbs up clutch, that's why we won. New York knows you are the best. Not the joke no more.
Starting point is 00:05:41 Good run. Good run, Taylor. If you could win awards, clapping for Taylor. If you could win an award for thinking up a verse for a song and then not actually making it, I would be the champion of that. Cause I came up with a Goodbye Kenny picket song like a month ago and then something happened. I was like, I'd go.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Yeah, the follow through is what we need. It's hard. Come on, kids. Everybody can take a reservation. It's been fun. Hope you find your playing card. There's plenty of people around here that can help you execute your ideas.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Let's go. That's funny because I was also in the lab last night writing a song about how bad the Marlins are. Oh, wow. I think I might have that. Where is it? Can we hear a couple of lines or no? Can we hear the song?
Starting point is 00:06:22 The thing is the windows are so short. There's a lot of great ideas here, folks. The windows are so short. A lot of people helping you make stuff. Let's go, ideas, let's do it. It's to Lizzo's pink. It's pink, goes with it, it's we stink. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Speaking of the Marlins, Flanagan's Day, June 1st. I bought tickets because you get a Flanagan's jersey with a special ticket that they have. Wait what? Yeah, there's. How much is that ticket? It's actually like quite affordable. I'll send you the link.
Starting point is 00:06:51 Or maybe you can just have mine because I made the mistake of buying ticket sight unseen. Yeah, let me Flanagan's day, June 1st, 430. It's the- Playoff time, baby. It's the Champions League final that day. And also I don't know when the Stanley Cup final is gonna begin or when the NBA finals begin, but that's-
Starting point is 00:07:08 NBA finals aren't until like June 6th. Okay, but Stanley Cup final could be starting that Saturday, June 1st. And the Panthers could be in it, even though they got hot at the wrong time. But either way, I wanna watch the Stanley Cup. I've made sure that this would, I've gone two years running to a Stanley Cup final game.
Starting point is 00:07:26 I gotta go every year. But it's Flanagan's. The Flannigan's jersey's outstanding though. And I used my Flanagan's Marlins Cup yesterday to give my dog a bath. But they made a big upgrade to the Flanagan's Marlins Cup. Last year they just put the logo on the back. Now Papa Joe's wearing the cap.
Starting point is 00:07:40 Ooh! Like it would be dawning back in the day. Never been to Flanagan's in my life. What're in Miami a little uber down to Flannys we'll meet you there go to the Grove when it's closed this way German music Grove Flanagan's, I'm just saying, it is. I used to live there. Open late night. They got two touch-shoes at that one. Open late night. In the main bar. We're inside out. What? I'll only go if we go to the Grove one.
Starting point is 00:08:10 Okay, we'll do a group thing. Nah, Westchester Flanagan's for life. Come on, I'm a Pinecrest Flanagan's guy though. I got my picture on the wall to paint. He's not Ubering to the Everglades. Westchester's, that's where Sex Machine's at, that's where Slickback's at. That's where the real regs.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Real Slick back. Yeah So as we continue here in the tournament the region of death the best costumes Beth grid of death punishments What are you doing Jess Held it in, man. Nine seed, Anchorman. It was right there. I feel awful. Nine seed, Anchorman group costume versus Roy the Bear.
Starting point is 00:08:52 Who do you guys think? Tell me Roy advanced. The winner is Roy. Roy advances. It's a 16 seed. Yeah. I'll tell you why. Wow.
Starting point is 00:09:00 First of all, terrible seating. Terrible seating for that. But what makes, what takes it over the top is that he said yes, Chef, every time he spoke. So that's what takes it over. Fully in character. Next matchup we have four seed, Dan as Nacho Libre versus Amin's baby Billy.
Starting point is 00:09:15 Okay. And the winner is. I thought I was pretty good. I was in character too. Nacho Libre wins. Aw. You guys just like it because Dan's naked. You had to sing there will be a payday, hallelujah.
Starting point is 00:09:27 I sang, let's go Boba Bonkers, God's favorite game. Love that. Next match up we have Lucy as Bobby Patrino versus Roy as Emo Jimmy Butler. Wow. I thought the Emo Jimmy was strong. This is a difficult match up. Lucy wins, Bobby Patrino moves on. It was strong, I mean, that's really strong.
Starting point is 00:09:49 I feel like emo Jimmy was a little bit more relevant, but Bob Petrino, that's a joke from like seven years ago. I mean, we've done it before on the show. Dan's done it, it's a rehashed costume, but Lucy advances. Final matchup. A new spin on an old favorite. Ten seed Billy Gill.
Starting point is 00:10:07 Ten seed Billy Gill is mankind, versus Stu Gotts is Larry Bird. I like the mankind one. I mean it was clearly better. What happened to my Rocky? Larry Bird won, because of course. Yeah, with the towel, the Stu Gotts towel. Actually it is pretty good. What is that you're doing right now?
Starting point is 00:10:21 It's kind of a Larry Bird thing. Things I've never done before or since, Chris. Hip thrust. I have a question. That's how he did it though. No, I'm just kidding for you. No, that's like literally. He's wearing a Larry Bird thing. Things I've never done before or since, Chris. Hip thrust. I have a question. That's how he did it though. No, that's, no, I'm just kidding. No, that's like literally. That's accurate.
Starting point is 00:10:29 That's accurate. I agree. Well, he was wearing a white uniform and wasn't wearing a hat. Was Billy the old timey baseball player not in this bracket? I don't know. Old timey baseball player is the best
Starting point is 00:10:42 we've ever executed a costume guy. It's the best thing of all time. If he had the mustache and stuff. Well, no, it's just because like Rob Delaney's on there. They're talking about losing, one losing a son, the other one losing a brother, all that stuff's happening. Dan's crying on the air and we just keep cutting the old timey Billy baseball.
Starting point is 00:10:56 And his mustache keeps changing every single time we cut to him and that got beat by what? Show doesn't get better than that, folks. I'm sorry. You could say we crescendoed right there and you'd be right. If you want your favorite to win, you need to get a bot farm like Streeter and Yeti.
Starting point is 00:11:08 But where was this? What team was this? If this was Yeti, he'd win. Maybe this was Billy, since he's kind of the head of our committee. Maybe he didn't want to have too much of him in it. I don't know. No, but it was in the seating.
Starting point is 00:11:20 It was in the bracket. This is a costume where the context is necessary. And contextually, that's the best costume maybe ever. Who did it lose to? If it was in the bracket. That's what I'm saying, I have no idea. The brackets are bogus. Well, the commissioner is bogus.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Now you'd say that again. This is all Billy's fault. And this bracket is brought to you by. The bracket is of course brought to you by. I thought I did this already. But you did. March Sadness is presented by get your guide discover over 100,000 unforgettable travel experiences in the US and around the world at get your guide dot com. I love my sponsors
Starting point is 00:11:54 I'm sorry. I love them, too. I love her being a good partner I mean, I love to get your guide up. It really is legitimately great. So, Amin, if the season ended today. Oh, we got an update. I'm waiting for the music. But if the season ended today because you have declared the playoffs have begun. Yes. Western Conference. Playing games. Yeah. Seven versus an eight seed. Kings and sons. Oh, the game Kings great games no playing games are gonna be great. No Kevin Herder He's done for the year with shoulder surgery you say so he's hurting you got hurt her now Malik monk He's one of these rods Malik monk. Yes. He good Malik monk could be back by the time the play and starts But except this is at the playoffs of the season ended today yes so today Malik Monk who is the sixth man of the year is not available if
Starting point is 00:12:49 they're not available today they're not available I gotta go with the Suns okay book is on fire too books on fire 50 points of the night the 9 versus 10 another great game Hall of Famers, legends, Lakers, warriors. Oh, now the Lakers have been really, really good lately. I know last night they had an easy one against the Raptors. We've lost eight million games in a row. But the Lakers are the bronze next team. They've been playing exactly.
Starting point is 00:13:18 I think they lost 14 in a row, by the way. 14 in a row. Close to eight million. So the Lakers have been clicking on all cylinders. Having said that, I just can't bet against the Warriors. I got them finding the magic, Stu Gotz, and getting out of that 10-9 matchup, winning that game. All right, so Warriors, Kings.
Starting point is 00:13:40 Warriors, no, Warriors. Oh, so you have them in, you're saying the Warriors are going in. Warriors are going in, Warriors are winning. So Warriors, Suns. Are the no, Warriors. Oh, so you have them in. You're saying the Warriors are going in. Warriors are going in. Warriors are winning. So Warriors, Sons are the seven and eight. Seven, eight. Who's the seven? Who's the eight? Well, Sons would be the seven. Yeah, the Sons would be the seven. Oh yeah, and then Warriors, Kings. This has been the story the whole season. It's been the story the whole season with that conference. Do you trust the young teams to beat those teams that are probably going to be these veteran-laden teams that are championship or bus built. Do you trust them in those early rounds?
Starting point is 00:14:08 I think the Kings, if they had been healthy, I would have taken the Kings over the Warriors. But if the season ended today... I mean with whoever you got winning the the playing games against the 1-2 seed. Mike, you're putting the cart before the horse. We're still in the playing. But if the season ended today... If the season ended today, but Mike is right, you would have the have the timber wolves versus the Sun's like that's fascinating. Yes, it really is and who's the two is it the Thunder? Well, no, no the Thunder the three of the season Nuggets are one. Nuggets are one. Nuggets are two. Nuggets are streaking. Clippers are four, Mavs five Tough one last night by the way for the streaking Nuggets
Starting point is 00:14:43 Yeah, the fight to get out of San Antonio at the fight the playoffs have already started. I'm telling you nine blocks for Wemby, huh? Drupal double again He almost had a quadruple double again And this is just him not even knowing first of all not even know what he's doing. I tried warning you guys He did. Bad for basketball. We had something more impressive than the near quadruple double again,
Starting point is 00:15:13 was three dunks for Nikola Jokic. Wow. Three dunks in the first quarter. You got about the 45 points. No, forget about that. What was the last time he dunked? Does anyone know? You gotta let the young guys know.

Starting point is 00:16:52 mike what is this walking dead are you still watching no i'm not but they have a new show jesus christ they have a new show do they really it's are we gonna sound old having a pop culture conversation about man, when The Walking Dead was running things? I'm just saying, like, the best description for Walking Dead right now is whoever's making that show. Because there's, like, you have to feel like you've run out of every possible storyline, right?
Starting point is 00:17:19 Well, there's all sorts of spinoffs now. All sorts of spinoffs. And so now there's a the ones who who live and it brings back Rick Grimes who had left the walking dead for quite a while and I guess returned towards the the end of the walking dead's original series I do believe that the walking dead proper is over is over but we've just begun to tell the zombie story never seen a second of it. Of The Walking Dead?
Starting point is 00:17:46 Ever. I'm going to tell you something. My man with the bow and arrow also has his own spinoff. That dude's been around. That dude hasn't died. And he was an original character developed. But he was also developed specifically for that show. He wasn't a part of the source material.
Starting point is 00:18:00 So you have those. You also had a Walking Dead that was on the other side of the the country Okay, can I say something? My man with the bow and arrow Get another job. I haven't watched in so long that I forgot his name You know I do the same thing with Kenan Thompson on SNL get another job, right? Show that you can do something other than just arrange He doesn't really know like he's had two things that have really connected.
Starting point is 00:18:26 Boondock Saints and my man with a bow and arrow, what's his name? My man with a bow and arrow was a great name. Why don't you get another job? I do. I mean you're talking into microphones. I do oddball, I do serious sex, I'm NBA radio. What's sinophobe?
Starting point is 00:18:40 It's all talking into a mic. He may like go be like a plumber or something. No, no, no. I'm not saying go do another job, don don't be an actor be an actor act in something Norman Reedus is his name. What is it? Is it Darryl? Is that the same Darryl? That's his name Darryl Dixon No, but he's he's my man with the bone out. You're saying test yourself take another role Yeah, like show that you can do something other than have long greasy hair and shoot bows and arrows Well, Rick Grimes, I guess, tried to do that,
Starting point is 00:19:05 but nobody was interested in Rick Grimes. He wasn't Rick Grimes. He's British. Carl. You're an actor, take work where you can get it. But is he not getting any work anywhere else? I guess not. So this newest spinoff is Rick and Michonne.
Starting point is 00:19:20 OK, Sword. Yeah, two of the three most popular characters in the history. Now, sword lady stepped out of her box, was in Black Panther, did a great job in that, showed that she's an actor with range. I can do different roles, I can be different people. Not like my man, my man, bam, my man, bow and arrow. Well said.
Starting point is 00:19:41 Who all he's doing is looking greasy every day. But there's very clearly an audience for this. I think a lot of people were like me, which was, there was a point in time where Walking Dead, the original series, was appointment television. It was an event, you would've won spoilers. Talking Dead was an event.
Starting point is 00:19:59 Yeah, Talking Dead. Think how crazy, how big of a show you can be, where there's a spin-off, not even a spin-off, a show that's dedicated just reviewing the last episode. It was a post-game show, wasn't it? Yes. Right. But it was- Like right after the show.
Starting point is 00:20:12 It was appointment viewing. And it springboarded the career of Jon Bernthal. Yeah. He had a monster career after that. That's an actor. Great villain. Actor. He came from there.
Starting point is 00:20:22 He came from there. Pretty much. He was Rick Grimes' brother on the show. Who had a thing with Rick Grimes' wife. Because they thought Rick Grimes was dead. Yeah, love triangle. Classic. Also, you know who else was on that show?
Starting point is 00:20:35 My man from Guardians of the Galaxy with the whistling arrow. He was on that, he was my man with the bow and arrow. My man with the whistle. My man with the bow and arrow, his brother. This feels like it was a really long time ago. It was a really long time ago. By the way, best weapon for anybody in the Marvel Universe
Starting point is 00:20:51 is that whistle thing. My man with the whistle. So cool. What's his name? Rondu, Rondu. Yeah, something like that. Something, Ray-Jon Rondu. The blue guy.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Who just announced his retirement? Did you know that? He did? Ray-Jon Rondo was. Wait, the time he was on with us, he was still playing in the NBA. I don't know. I saw a vibe tweet out. Wasn't he a Pacer? Well, I don't add, you know, like there's some like Tim Hardaway this year,
Starting point is 00:21:14 Tim Hardaway. Are you telling me Ray John Rondo was, John was playing basketball? No, I want to see. I mean, I haven't really been watching this season. No, no, no. He was, he was not playing this season. Let me, let me just stop. You guys, his last season was with the Cav. No, no, no. He was not playing this season. Let me just stop you guys. His last season was with the Cavs, 21-22. Yeah, like, relax. But if you ask me if he played for the Pacers, I don't know in the same way that Tim Hardaway Sr.'s
Starting point is 00:21:35 end of career had a shit ton of teams he played for. He was not a Pacer. Wasn't Isaiah Thomas not the one that Pablo Torres figuring out about? The other Isaiah Thomas, didn't he just sign like a 10-day? I think I saw him on a bench. Signed for the rest of the year with the Suns. Oh really, has he gotten some PT?
Starting point is 00:21:50 A little bit. Remember that moment in time during COVID and Spoh never gave it to us? Mario Chalmers actually re-signed with Miami Heat. Crowd was begging for him to come into the game. He never did. Man, that would have been awesome. Wait, he was on that finals roster?
Starting point is 00:22:04 I think he was on like the team that ended up making a bubble run. Yeah, through the finals roster. Man, that would have been. Wait, he was on that finals roster? I think he was on the team that ended up making a bubble run. Yeah, through the finals roster. Yeah, he would have gotten a ring if they wanted a difference. He was on the roster, yes. Wow. Yes. Wow.
Starting point is 00:22:12 But I don't think he was in the bubble. I don't think he made the playoff roster. I don't think he made the playoff roster. But there was a moment in time where it had been several years. Rio re-emerged in the NBA and he was with the Heat and we never played him. Do you think he regrets pushing it when he played for the Celtics? Because that
Starting point is 00:22:27 was the end of his career essentially, right? Like he had a great playoff run. I would say for like a week he was the biggest star in the NBA. He was never a perfect player. Rujon was never a perfect player. He was in LeBron James. You said everyone on the on the court has to get buckets now in the NBA. He played at a position where you historically do get someone that you can trust on the outside. And he tried his best to develop that. We're talking about Isaiah Thomas, right?
Starting point is 00:22:54 No, I'm talking about Rajon. Oh, I'm talking about Isaiah. Oh, OK, I'm sorry. Isaiah Thomas bucket getter there. So Isaiah, yeah, that Isaiah has never. Certified bucket getter. And like Stu got said like at that point Dude, we're talking about remember he had the quote. They're gonna back up the Brinks truck. Yes. He was more
Starting point is 00:23:12 By the way, he absolutely regrets it He said if I knew he has to if I knew now what I would if I knew then what I know now I absolutely wouldn't have played but he said they told me like I couldn't make it worse by playing Yeah, he actually was said that on oddball But what happened with what happened with rondo one of my other jobs Chris what happened with rondo specifically? Things went real south after the trade to Dallas for him for his career Yeah, I think no, I don't think it went south because then he had up years and down years You want to remember Chicago? He was then just like a journeyman after that. Yeah, like look
Starting point is 00:23:44 I think this is this is my opinion, he's a really, really, really smart guy. Is he a Hall of Famer? Hmm. Wow! I mean, everyone gets into that Hall of Fame, like, everyone gets in. Got a ring.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Whoa. He's got a ring, he's got a lot, he's got stats from the assist standpoint. Maybe you think, even more than what I said, is Tankdale the best number three in the NFL? Hmm. Kevin Garnett, there's someone who did another job. Had another job, exactly. from the assist them. Maybe you think even more than what I said, is Tank Del the best number three in the NFL? Kevin Garnett, there's someone who did another job. Had another job, exactly.
Starting point is 00:24:10 On cut jams. One of my favorite things is I get emails throughout the show from Taylor in the other room cutting up little things that we did, and this is something you didn't mean. I don't even know what it is, but let's listen to it. Not like my man Bat Mo. Well said.
Starting point is 00:24:23 So what happened with Rondo? So I love the idea that that's instantaneous, but Chris fouled up 700 times two segments ago. We ain't got none of them emails, huh? Where are the emails? Draft creams. That's what I'm asking. That did me earlier. Draft creams. It's your turn. I mean, you had the most recent screw up.
Starting point is 00:24:44 Not like my man Bat Moe. Well said. You know what my favorite part is? Three weeks from now it'll be on Cinephobe. That's, because Anthony Mays is in it. Is that the delay where it's like three weeks behind? I've said too much. But Anthony Mays edits on this show.
Starting point is 00:24:58 And so he takes these things. Very well edited. He takes these things and then he repurposes them on show and I don't like it. Because I feel like I'm doing different jobs. I would never have my man. David Sam's gonna send him a cease and desist.
Starting point is 00:25:11 My man with the whistle. That's RIP. My man with the whistle would not be in like Walking Dead all of a sudden whistling with the thing. Like that wouldn't happen. You don't like crossover. No, no, not not. If it happened here, you play it back here, don't play it back at another show. No, no not if it happened here you play it back here
Starting point is 00:25:25 Don't play it back at another show. No, right. No, I know now this is producing It's a good produce. I think it is. Yeah, so So what happened to Rhonda? Yeah, what happened to Rhonda's Ron Rhonda is a brilliant basketball mind and also a little bit cantankerous in nature. So when you combine those two things with either a coach that he doesn't think knows what they're talking about, which is very quite likely, or a coach who's also a brilliant basketball mind and also cantankerous, like what happened with Carlisle, you get a lot
Starting point is 00:26:00 of oil and water situations. And I think he kind of bounced around the league. He had impact in a lot of places. He was good in Chicago, he was good in Sacramento, he was good in New Orleans and he was good with the Lakers when they won another ring. He's got two rings by the way. He said one ring earlier. But he's in. He's in the hall. That second ring is. Yes. Yes. That's all it took. Yeah. Rings with an S or Z. But I would imagine that that's what happens, right? Is that he just wears out his welcome
Starting point is 00:26:27 in a lot of different places. But, you know, Hall of Famer though, I don't know. I don't know why I'm stuck on it. I mean, I mean, there are some marginal players in the NBA Hall of Fame. Name one. I mean, I'll have to look it up, but that Hall of Fame, it's the basketball Hall of Fame.
Starting point is 00:26:43 That's how, isn't Christian Leightner in there? I believe so. No he's not. As a member of the dream team. That's different that's not. I know he wasn't a scoring you know machine but his last 10 seasons were under double digit points per game. Yeah I mean but I was by what were his assists? His best his best season post-Boston was. He averaged 11 and 11. Could you play his brand of basketball where he was considered at his peak? Can you play that position, that style in today's game? I think if you're as good as he was at everything else,
Starting point is 00:27:17 he was an incredible rebounder at his size. He was a very good defensive player. And obviously the playmaking speaks for itself. Also, Rondo, unlike other gun shy point guards of his era, like for instance Ricky Rubio is probably a great comp in terms of another guy who couldn't shoot and teams would use that against him. When guys would go under on the pick and roll, they'd go, we'd say go six feet under, like meaning like he's damn near in the ground as far as how far under they're going. Rubio would freeze, he wouldn't know what to do
Starting point is 00:27:47 because he wouldn't want to take that shot, he knew I'm not good at that shot, but obviously the offense stalls. For Rondo, if you gave him that space, he used it to accelerate and now, yes, you can meet him at the rim, but you're meeting him with a full head of feet. Does Rondo get his jersey retired by the Celtics?
Starting point is 00:28:04 That's a good question. Mo Cheeks is in the basketball hall of fame, by the way. Rondo was better than Mo Cheeks. He was, man. I don't know, man. I don't know, I don't know. Rondo was really good, though. Do you think he gets his jersey retired?
Starting point is 00:28:18 In Boston, but Boston's weird. They don't retire any old jerseys. Like, they don't, like, look in the wraps. I mean, there's a bunch of jerseys retired. They even have them in little quadrants. I know. It's not like a big one banner. But the jerseys are almost all Hall of Famers.
Starting point is 00:28:33 If he gets in the Hall of Fame. And he's an almost Hall of Famer. If he's a Hall of Famer then yes. Let me, give me a second here just to look at. Yeah it's a little unfair to put you on the spot. Cause I don't know, I know Celtics. I'm not fully aware of the criteria to make the jersey retirement for the Boston Celtics.
Starting point is 00:28:47 So for instance, for the Lakers, you had to be on. You had to have belts around your socks. You had to be on. You had to be on. Here we go, 24 jerseys retired by the Celtics, right? These are the names, right? Jim Loskitov, Hall of Famer, Robert Parrish. What year is that, Loskitov?
Starting point is 00:29:01 Loskitov is back before you need to even pay attention. The Chief. Back when people had that last name. Yeah, exactly. Robert Parrish, Hall of Famer. The Chief. Reggie Lewis, not Hall of Famer, but died as a Celtic. Pressing power. Yeah. Paul Pierce, Hall of Famer. Would have been a Hall of Famer. Probably would have been a Hall of Famer. Paul Pierce, Hall of Famer. The Truth. Larry Bird, Hall of Famer. Kevin McHale, Hall of Famer. Cedric Maxwell, Finals MVP. Cornbread. Hall of Famer. Kevin McHale, Hall of Famer. Cedric Maxwell, Finals MVP. Cornbread. Casey Jones, Hall of Famer. Sam Jones, Hall of Famer. Frank Ramsey, Hall of Famer. Ed McCauley, Hall of Famer. Bill Sharman, Hall
Starting point is 00:29:32 of Famer. Don Nelson, Hall of Famer for coaching and also hit one of the biggest shots in the history of the organization. Dave Cowans, Hall of Famer. John Havlicek, Hall of Famer. Honda. Havlicek! Alright. Satch Sanders, Hall of Famer. Tommy Heintzen, Hall of Famer, John Havlicek Hall of Famer, Satch Sanders Hall of Famer, Tommy Hineson Hall of Famer, Tommy Gunn. Really? Didn't know that. Bob Cousy Hall of Famer, Jojo White Hall of Famer, Bill Russell Hall of Famer, KG Hall of Famer, Dennis Johnson Hall of Famer, Red Auerbach Hall of Famer, Walter Brown the owner and founder of the team. Does Ray Allen get his jersey retired there?
Starting point is 00:30:06 Absolutely. No. But Hall of Famer, does Ray Allen get his jersey retired anywhere? Rondell was better than DJ. He was. Milwaukee. He was better. I don't know. Do you think he would get it retired in Seattle
Starting point is 00:30:18 if there was a Seattle? Probably, if there was a Seattle. Him, Kemp, Rashard Lewis, GP? Man, I was watching Kemp High the other day because crazy right man Rex Chapman was was tweeting about how he recruited Like he was part of the recruiting trip for Sean Kemp and he would have gone there if it hadn't been for the meddling NCAA And it's like yo man to start watching the camp highlights cold dude that dude was unbelievable check About him about him Cold dude that dude was unbelievable Does rondo get his jersey retired now that I saw Cedric Maxwell's name in there
Starting point is 00:30:58 Maybe but said it's massive one of the one guy from that group that doesn't is Ray. Yes, right absolutely not Yeah, I mean that that's how it's gone since then and they've buried the hatchet from what I understand I actually think we're individuals. I actually think Ray Allen, I don't think Ray Allen should have his jersey retired by the Miami Heat, but I do think an Angel Russo, I've actually seen Angel Russo mock something up. I think that he should honor that part of the floor with his jersey number in the wood. They should honor it with the ropes just hanging from the,
Starting point is 00:31:19 get them ropes out of here. Don Lebatard. Shane Padier's gone and Dwayne Wade goes, I'm not sure what's going on with the culture. Sinking ship. Stugats. They realize Riley, I mean, Spoh is never leaving. You know, I feel like. What's his name had a.
Starting point is 00:31:33 Oh, f*** man. Good start. Keep going, just keep going. No, no, no. Bite through it. No, let's just end the segment right there. This is the Down Lebatard Show with the Stugats. ["The LeBatard Show Theme"] Have a stat of the day I wanted to get to in just a second. Chris has been telling me about some Jim Harbaugh sound.
Starting point is 00:31:58 Why do you want to play this sound so badly, Chris? What's going on? Just because it's the first time that I was like, oh, Jim Harbaugh's back. Because I remember when he was with the Niners, he's a pretty funny and weird, odd, I don't wanna say weird, he's an odd quote. And he just, it was a generic question about
Starting point is 00:32:13 how's it going so far for you, and he had a classic Jim Harbaugh answer. It's like the start of the new year, happy new year. That's where it feels. It's like that first day it feels, you know, it's like that that first day of school, family reunion, homecoming. I know those that most people think January 1st,
Starting point is 00:32:36 the start of the new year, those that espouse to Christianity, Catholicism, Christianity, Catholicism, correlated with the birth of Christ. But us in football, today, April 2nd, started the new year. So just great. Great day. It was just great day for football, for meetings and training, doing a lot of baseline training. Is he on a treadmill? He's breathing heavily. And that's how we always does it I think weird is polite I mean I'm weird is like the nicest way to do I don't think he'd be offended by the stress The first like 10 seconds of that he rattles off like first day of school New Year's Eve
Starting point is 00:33:18 Like family reunion homecoming was he talking about like in high school, but he April 2nd, but he's right. I mean talk to these kids though Put it on the pole. Do you celebrate New Year's? These kids Jesus Catholicism Moving's a bitch. Oh, it's a nightmare the worst But I just think that the useless sound montage will have fun and is happy that he's back. Is he wrong, though?
Starting point is 00:33:49 Eggs. I'm more excited for the start of the football season than I am for the start of a new year. You know peeps. Cadbury. Damn, Cadbury eggs. It really, what I hear there is that he was just bored at Michigan, one of the coolest jobs in sports.
Starting point is 00:34:05 Like, I just wasn't doing it for him. How about these fans? You mentioned Cadbury Eggs. The things you do driving around the Midwest on a gummy in a passenger seat. I have top five athletes that could out Easter. Oh, I love it. I'm ready when you are.
Starting point is 00:34:24 Three days late. You're ready for it. Oh, I'm ready when you are three days late. Yeah, you're ready for it right now. Are athletes are these athletes or people? These are these are these are people in sports. OK, I have all any celebrities, perhaps. All right. You ready? I am. I am. Christian McCaffrey. Good. Tim Duncan. the number five wow that was just OLI yes V Stiviano
Starting point is 00:35:10 he was a silly rabbit she was his right hand man Mr. Sherling's everything number four Kareem Hunt hunt for Easter eggs no, okay In looking at this perhaps the Haysa should have been Yeah, you had to explain cream on number three germane die Die the eggs I'm following. Oh, thank you or good Friday number two Hank basket Thank you. Or Good Friday. Number two, Hank Baskett. Remember him? I do. Can I guess number one?
Starting point is 00:35:51 You're never gonna guess it. So it's not Cam Rising. It should have been. Yeah. Damn. You gotta follow that. Number one is gonna be funny to just Mike and perhaps Roy.
Starting point is 00:36:04 Number one is going to be funny to just Mike and perhaps Roy. Former 790, the ticket update anchor, Rich Eggy. Mike, you like it? Mike, you let it play. I haven't thought about Rich Eggy in like two years. Yeah, that was his last name. One of like the OGs of 790, the ticket. Eggy? Rich Eggy. Oh. It should have been Kam Rising. It should have been.
Starting point is 00:36:26 Eggie-Weggie. Catholicism. Don't you think Harbaugh likes being weird? I'm never gonna get used to how odd he is. He wasn't this odd when he was playing, guys. He was a starting quarterback in the NFL, and he missed a season because he punched Jim Kelly's lights out, but he wasn't this odd in front of microphones
Starting point is 00:36:47 maybe the internet made things amplified but he was more and more trained he was a gritty grindy quarterback we knew that but he never spoke much so well now we're seeing his personality. Did he have a sideline thing? He I mean did get things with all of his quarterbacks, but when he was a Chicago Bear, he had a spat, and we all know that he punched Jim Kelly again. He was a Colts quarterback, and they end up having a terrible season and get Peyton Manning, and it's all because Captain Comeback, who honestly almost took the Colts to a Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:37:23 He almost beat Pittsburgh. That was maybe a little bit before your time Bowl. Yes. He almost beat Pittsburgh. Maybe a little bit before your time, Jess, but he almost beat Pittsburgh on a Hail Mary in the AFC Championship game. He goes to the Colts, has success there, punches Jim Kelly's lights out because Jim Kelly said something
Starting point is 00:37:37 as an analyst that bothered him. They have a terrible year and get Peyton Manning the next year. Still in business. Deep playoff run though. And it was exciting. Like everyone was rooting for Jim Horbaugh. Yeah that year he was captain comeback. They would go down big
Starting point is 00:37:52 and come back. He had the incident with Schwarz remember when like they're jogging up the shield. That one was funny. But Mike is right we had no way of knowing he was crazy. I didn't know he was, I didn't know he was like that odd until he became head coach of San Francisco. And then he got
Starting point is 00:38:16 even more odd when he went to, to Michigan. And I think the nervous is like, we're just going to keep climbing here. Chicken is the nervous bird was like top tier Jim Harbaugh He's like, I don't like my quarterbacks eating chicken chickens a nervous bird He had to have health professionals telling that like no you're good You're fine. The nervousness of the chicken is not gonna transfer be a food to your stomach Have you guys seen the skill guys there? That is it is bad right? Yeah, there's bad They may actually run the Michigan offense. It seems as though I mean Greg Romans the offensive coordinator is gonna be run heavy whiteouts You can draft if you get a couple no they need to for Justin herbert. Yeah
Starting point is 00:38:54 But don't you think some of these teams they've seen my homes They're like why spend so much if you have one of those quarterbacks They can win with just about any wide receivers correct moms is doing then why make the trade for Stefan digs when you have CJ Shroud? That's a great question. Because you can, because you have the cash space. Because you're going all in. Going all in, exactly right.
Starting point is 00:39:10 I mean, they have what everyone wants, which is the quarterback on a rookie deal, right? This is an interesting project. I got it. They have nobody. They got to make up some ground. You would have thought that his New Year's't be as happy as with the skill guys. He's lost everything. Like you would have thought he'd be like, I'm just shitting New Years.
Starting point is 00:39:31 He's so happy to be away from the NCAA. That was Easter for him, no doubt. He is risen. He doesn't have to worry about who he buys eggie-wiggies for. Rich eggie. There's been a bunch of like sneaky signings this off season. Like? I have a top five. What?
Starting point is 00:39:51 I have a top five. Top five sneaky signings? Sneaky signings in the NFL. Oh, you left it right there, amazing. Sneaky signings that you might not have noticed or sneaky signings that I don't think there's been enough discussion about. This is why Chris Cody's the draft cring.
Starting point is 00:40:03 Cause I mean, how did he know? So no OLIs. Here we go. Just a straight five. Number five. And this is, I'm going to play this one straight. And I think given the recent events with Rice over the weekend, this may not be as sneaky.
Starting point is 00:40:18 But number five is Hollywood Brown to Kansas City. We know what they were missing last year. When someone was taking the top off that defense. While winning the Super Bowl. Why receivers can catch? Yeah. And he may not fit the bill either. He's going to frustrate them.
Starting point is 00:40:36 But he's not going to frustrate them as much as MBS did. He could put up a huge year in that offense. Hollywood Brown, on a pretty discount deal The text message was released and Andy Reid just recruited him with like two sentences It's not hard to recruit guys over there a prove-it deal one for 11 kind of rather than take a lot of years Maybe do the same you Watkins thing there That's it. He can make a real impact with that offense. What are we thinking for fantasy Tony for him? He's one of those guys, you know, everyone's gonna be super eager to get him.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Yeah, that's a little maybe fourth, fifth round pick somewhere there. Yeah, little flyer. Yeah. Number four, Mitch Morse leaving the tracks. Buffalo's Rosser Construction. I like Shakir. They found something with Shakir. He's a nice three.
Starting point is 00:41:21 He's wide receiver one now over there because they've lost Gabe Davis. They've lost 12 starters. Damian Harris even retired not that he was being used last year because he was hurt. Is losing Gabe Davis a bad thing? Mitch Morris was huge for the pond. That's true. I wasn't a fan. But Morris was really important to their offensive line. They don't just have to rebuild their skilled positions. Mitch Morse was huge there and Mitch Morse to the Jags specifically really helps out Trevor Lawrence. They needed to protect him way more so not talked about this is sneaky Mitch Morse to the Jags. And got him a weapon. Number three sneaky little signing Tyler Huntley to the Browns.
Starting point is 00:42:10 People saw that Jamis Winston went to Cleveland as Joe Flacco went to Indianapolis. But one signing that you may have missed is Tyler Huntley, Lamar Jackson's backup in Baltimore also signed with the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland Browns, they went through a lot of sorting quarterbacks last year and you have plenty of questions looming over Deshaun Watson. It's been a long time since we've seen Deshaun Watson play consistently well.
Starting point is 00:42:31 Not only did they get a passing option behind them, but a good running threat. That's a pretty solid quarterback room that somehow increased the number of sexual assault allegations. Number two. Let me face ID this thing. Leonard Floyd to the Niners. number of sexual assault allegations. Number two. Let me face ID this thing. Leonard Floyd to the Niners. I like that actually. Lost Chase Young, big. Yeah, lost Chase Young.
Starting point is 00:42:54 I don't know how good Chase Young is. I thought Chase Young was gonna be better, although he bowled out in the first half of the Super Bowl. Leonard Floyd, maybe Floyd a little bit more consistency out of that position. This is an NFC champion side that still has a quarterback on a cheap contract. We'll see what happens with Brandon Naouk. A lot of people assuming Brandon Naouk may be out of San Francisco, but the defensive line
Starting point is 00:43:15 needed some help there, especially with Chase Young going. I like Leonard Floyd. I think he puts up a consistent effort. That's a good signing for them. And number one, Austin Hooper to the Patriots. Now, Austin Hooper, he's, I remember growing up and watching Austin Hooper, and it turns out he's only 29 years old. He's only, he is younger than Dansby Swanson. Austin Hooper. That's impossible.
Starting point is 00:43:50 We never got to the stat of the day. There's always tomorrow, Stigatz. Yes, there is. It's good to have you back, though. Well said. Well, thank you, Chris. It's good to be back. What about me? You too.
Starting point is 00:44:00 Oh, yeah. Do you mean it? We really could have used you Monday and Tuesday, though. Dan, back tomorrow.
