Hey folks, it's Mike Ryan and if you're watching our show, you've probably known your boy has
undergone a little bit of a body transformation and I gotta tell ya Peloton has helped me
on my fitness journey.
It got the ball rolling for me because I watch my wife on the Peloton, she takes all these
great classes, she has her favorite instructors, I listen to the music, I'm a big music guy,
gets me fired up, makes me want to take part in this fitness phenomenon known as Peloton. Peloton offers a
variety of challenging classes from four-week strength building classes to running cycling
and everything in between. Peloton will help you achieve your goals and maybe you'll have some fun
along the way. I know I have. It's backed by thousands of members whose lives have been changed.
Be part of that group. Telling you I'm better for it,
have it in my office. Sometimes I can put on the baseball game, sometimes I can put on a soccer
match. Some other times I'm totally locked in on an emo playlist. Find your push. Find your power
with Peloton at OnePeloton.com. Okay, flights on air Canada. How about Prague? Ooh, Paris. Those gardens.
Gardens. Amsterdam. Tulip Festival.
I see your festival and raise you a carnival in Venice.
Or Bermuda has carnaval.
Ooh, colorful.
You want colorful. Thailand. Lantern Festival. Boom.
Book it. How did we get to Thailand from Prague?
Oh, right! Prague!
Oh, boy.
Choose from a world of destinations, if you can.
Air Canada. Nice travels.
This is the Dan Leventor Show with the StuGuts Podcast.
We have a couple of telephone numbers.
It took us four years at MetalArc Media to get them,
but we have landline telephone numbers that you can reach
if you wanna be on the Boost Mobile Hot Take Hotline.
It's 305-486-4689.
And if you want life advice questions
or just general thoughts around the show,
you could call Juju now,
who's doing some stuff for us with a phone line.
It's Juju now is the telephone number,
but those are just letters.
So the numbers are 650-585-8669
if you wanna call Jujugadi.
We have a bit of news here that we are about to break
in the form of song, Zazlose.
Are you ready for this news that we're about to break?
I don't think that we've broken news before in the form of songs, so let's hear what we've
got here. Start spreading the news She's leaving today
She's moving back to New York, New York Four years in Miami is a long enough stay.
But she'll still do the show from New York, New York. She wants to wake up in a city near all her friends
Where there's a functioning train
And seasonal change
These Heat Homer shows have pushed her away.
Nobody cares about he culture in old New York.
If she can work for Dan, she'll survive any man.
and she'll survive. Any man, it's time to move.
New York, New York.
Woo!
Serenaded by Taylor is better punctuation than anybody.
I thought that was her.
Oh, yeah.
I wish I could sing like that.
Congratulations, Jess. You have parlayed an assortment
of journalistic accomplishments
bigger than both Cody's and Zazzlo's
into a New York move that will still have you around.
This is goodbye to Miami, not goodbye to the show.
Correct, this is goodbye Miami.
Four years is a long time.
I enjoyed my stay for the most part. Um,
it was a lot of fun for the most part and I'll miss you guys for the most part.
Um, no, in all, in all seriousness, I will miss seeing most of you. Uh,
just kidding. Every day. And yeah, it's not, it's not going to be the same.
I won't be here weekend and week out.
I see Mike getting emotional and I don't like it.
I'm not getting emotional. I'm good. I'm same. I won't be here week in and week out. I see Mike getting emotional and I don't like it. I'm not getting emotional.
I'm good, I'm good.
It seems like you're emotional.
I don't know whether it's Cam Ward or Jessica.
It's definitely Cam Ward.
And this is a big day for me
because I can talk about the Canes
without her shitting on them constantly.
Not yet, not yet.
I'm still here for the rest of this show.
Come on.
But I am moving tomorrow,
and I will be back in New York in a couple months.
We're staying with family for a couple months
in the summer here, so.
Does Willow stay?
Willow is, unfortunately,
she's already made the move up north.
She's gone?
Her last day.
We don't get to say goodbye to Willow?
Well, her last day was last week.
I told everyone it was her last day,
so Kristen was very upset, a lot of tears.
So that was a going away party on Tuesday?
Yes.
I just thought we were having tequila.
Tequila, that invented tequila.
I was headed to the wrong Montes.
Yeah, not South Beach, Dan.
The party planners here, they know me well.
They know she's not gonna leave her neighborhood
on a weeknight, and she's not gonna get in her car
after 5 p.m. and sit in traffic in Miami. So they sat in traffic for me.
It was very touching. Lots of people drove from Broward which is as we know a
hike and I'm very grateful for it. If I may and I'm not gonna get emotional
about this I promise but Jess took a bet on us several years ago and this was
before we really had a company and we were all just
vision. We were at the Cleveland or it was drab and dreary.
It's hard to explain to her how it's hard to explain to anybody how it was just broken
pipes and nothing. There was a bomb threat on my first day.
It was really bad. And you had to move out of your original house because the neighbors
were awful. I had a cockroach infestation in my first apartment. Yeah, we had a really difficult launch for her personally.
And professionally, it's not easy jumping
into a fully formed show that is feeling a whole new phase
of its incarnation out.
And she was an absolute pro the entire time.
I'm really sad to see her go, but I understand
I'm also happy to see her go, because I know
that's home for her, Lehman and Willow,
and I'm glad that she gets to stay in the family.
I'm glad that she gets to reunite up there with Lucy.
And we-
Yeah, it's not goodbye, it's see you less.
Yeah, see you less, which, I mean, there's pros and cons.
Well, it's not great for Jeremy, I would say.
Yeah, I'm just sad you're leaving
because no one else likes me here. Oh, you think I like you? pros and cons. Well it's not great for Jeremy I would say. Yeah I'm just sad you're leaving because no one else likes me here.
Oh you think I like you?
That's true.
Pitch Clock with Jeremy Tashay is coming up in about one minute.
Wow I am really good at this job.
No one knows what I do, what I don't do, what I like, what I don't like.
I am a pro, thank you Mike.
Thank you Jez.

Mr. Shirt, if I may say for a second.
Miami, they were simulating the snap count the entire game
and they were clapping at the line of scrimmage.
And the only thing I want to see clapping
are them cheeks on Mrs. Matt in my face, my shirt.
All right, so that's one thing.

["The Stugats Show Theme"]
Welcome to the Pitch Clock.
Here's the pitch.
A two-part baseball segment combining a nostalgic
baseball trivia game and an interview with an expert. This is the Pitch Clock.
The Pitch Clock is back. We have a couple of guests with us in Jake Mintz and Jordan
Schusterman of Cespidus Family Barbecue. These guys stuck around for another week of the pitch clock and we appreciate
them for it.
Taylor's going to lead the way here on our trivia before we get to our 2025
major league expert. And this season we got to go to the nostalgia trivia.
So Taylor, what do we got going for us today?
Today you guys are playing, who am I? You'll get five clues.
If you get it on the first clue, you get five points.
The second clue, four points and so on.
There's no penalty for guessing and getting it wrong because I want to encourage you guys
to throw names out there per round.
Love this.
I never won the Cy Young despite having six top five finishes.
Okay. Despite having six top five finishes Hey, I would have guessed Chris sale before
One last year is Cy Young
I don't I'll be honest guys. I'm not gonna have this one after one. I have a guess
I have a guess all right my friend go five my guess is Adam Wainwright
I will guess Tom Glavin not Tom. I will guess Tom Glavin. Not Tom Glavin.
I will guess John Smoltz.
Derick!
Not John Smoltz.
I really thought I was gonna take that.
All right, all right.
One round, let's get another clue.
Second clue for four points.
I was the first pitcher to retire
following a 20-win season
since Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax in 1966.
20 wins is like
I will say
Andy Pettit Mike Musina
Jeremy who's I'm wrong, but CC Sabathia. He probably want to say somewhere along the way. He did. Yeah
It's gonna be four points for Jordan. It's Michael Sina
Four points for Jordan. It's Mike Mussina.
Wow!
Oh my God!
Mussina!
Holy crap!
Wow!
Congratulations!
All right, Taylor, who's our next player?
All right, I feel good about that.
Yeah, you should.
Second player for five points.
I made my MLB debut in September 2005
as a defensive replacement and struck out
in my only two at-bats that season.
of replacement and struck out in my only two at-bats that season.
I will say Andrew McCutcheon. I'm just going to do same time frame. I'm just going to say Mark Teixeira. Just to say a name I'll say Joey Vato, but that's not right.
All incorrect. We're going to the four points. Okay. All right. Thank goodness.
My first name was supposed to be Hamlet
because of my grandmother's love of Shakespeare,
but the clerk severely messed it up.
I've got it.
I got it.
Yeah, I got it also.
Do we all have it?
Can we say it together?
Yes.
One, two, three.
Hamly Ramirez.
Yay.
It's time to get to 2025.
We're kicking Jake and Jordan out for a minute
and we bring in from MLB network, Adnan Virk.
Thank you for booking yourself on this week
of the pitch clock and returning for us.
Look, Adnan, you know, everyone around here knows,
I'm on the Marlins broadcast, but I do have a side team.
And that's my American league team.
And that is the Detroit Tigers.
And how real is this start?
Like, do you anticipate that these Tigers
will be leading that division throughout the year?
Or is this a bit of a mirage for what you expect?
I actually do think it's sustainable, Jeremy.
I don't necessarily think they're gonna be the best team
in the American league, but I think, and again,
I know we always poo poo the AL Central,
but what feels to be a generally weaker division. They can be the class that division for
your Tigers. The whole key was going to be what else do you got besides school?
Well, because school we know is going to be unbelievable. And I thought resigning
Flaherty was just a master stroke because it gives you more depth now as far as
the starting rotation is concerned. And you know, they're doing this. There's
one stretch, as you know, Riley Green was like one for 32. It was awful.
Then he had three hit game. Okay, if he can turn it around, the guy that I'm happiest for,
there was Spencer Torkelson. He was abysmal much of last year. I think the stat was he had 10 home
runs and 342 at bats this year. He had six in 66 at bats. So to me, I'm like, dude, this guy was
the number one pick. If Torkelson can be a guy that you depend on, it can hit. Kerry Carpenter,
I'd love to see him be able to hit lefties more often. He struggled a little bit. So that's why
AJ Hayes platoons him. But I do really like Kerry Carpenter, I'd love to see him be able to hit lefties more often, you know, he struggled a little bit, so that's why AJH platoons him,
but I do really like Kerry Carpenter as well.
Obviously if you can get some production of a bias,
you'll take it.
Bullpen's really good.
Yeah, I don't, I don't think the Tigers are like a 95
win team, but I'm with it.
They can be the team to beat the division.
I sure hope they are.
And it's been, it's been fun to watch them without
Rogers, who you mentioned, who to me,
and maybe this can be a new looks like for Tim Kirkshaw
somewhere down the line.
He looks like the Lorax.
Like he just looks like the Lorax.
We have a special addition to this part
of the 2025 baseball here for you Adnan.
We actually have Taylor with us in this portion
of the show.
We sent him to the New York studio
to ask a New York based question,
but maybe not the one you would think.
Taylor? Adnan, the Mets go to ask a New York based question, but maybe not the one you would think Taylor
Adnan the Mets go out they get Juan Soto the splash of the free agency their pitching was supposed to be their weakness
Yeah, how do you make sense that the Mets have the best era in baseball right now, dude?
It's crazy because I keep saying to myself well mania is gonna be out so that's gonna be a bit of a hit
They obviously lost those starters from a season ago, but no David Peterson
Fantastic, Cody Sanga, probably a little underrated
as far as the signing race is concerned.
Bullpen's been great, Edwin Diaz, of course.
But cheer points, one thing to say,
oh, we got a few guys, but 2.30 team ERA is insane.
I mean, I don't think anyone expected them to be that good
as far as their pitching is concerned.
Lindor's been awesome, which is nice to see.
Normally he's a second half guy.
He never made the All-Star team, by the way, as a Met,
because he always gets a slow first half starts,
but had that walk off home run on Friday,
his first as a Met, another big hit last night.
Alonso's been unbelievable.
His OPS is almost up there there in judge.
So those two guys are carrying their offense.
And Juan Soto has been Juan Soso.
I mean, in the wins he's begun, in the losses he's been bad,
has yet to get a home run at City Field.
It's their pitching which is carrying them, amazing. Juan Soso will get you invited back here every single week.
Who's our third player to guess here?
Third player for five points.
I'm the only pitcher in MOB history to throw no hitter against the same team in back to back seasons.
Oh, I think I'm gonna go first I'm gonna say Justin Verlander
I'm gonna go
Roy Allen Jeremy do you have a guess? No, just let them take it. We're going on to the second
Okay, for four points. I was on the cover of
MLB 2k9. Oh
MLB 2k9. All right. I have a guess. I think I have it
Okay, I'll go linsecom. All right, Tim linsecom. I'll take mine. So I have it
I have Felix Hernandez. My guess was also Linsacum.
It was the freak Tim Linsacum.
You're kidding me.
Okay, so we'd, dude, if Felix had multiple,
I would have remembered.
Wow, so you guys tied there.
For five points, player four,
in 2002, I led the MLB in saves with 55.
Eric Gagne.
Yeah.
We're all gonna guess Gagne. We're all guessing Gagne. All
guessing Gagne. Yeah. We're all we're all locked in on Gagne. It's not Eric Gagne.
Four points. In 1997 I helped my own cause and batted 288 winning a silver slugger.
I mean it doesn't feel possible with what I'm thinking but I I have no choice
but to write the name that I just did.
I am also gonna do that.
Should I go first?
Do you wanna go?
Go ahead, Jake.
I'm gonna say John Smoltz because
That's what I wrote too.
Me too.
The number of guys who would have,
to win a Silver Slugger, you have to be a starter.
Yes.
And you mentioned the saves,
and there are very few people who would have been able
to do both of those things.
So it's Smoltz.
That's what I had.
Everybody correct there.
It's John Smoltz.
So it's now 16 to 12 to eight.
Adnan, Dan's gonna be happy I'm asking you this question
though because it's about his Tampa Bay Rays.
Cause they recently called up Chandler Simpson
and I'm obsessed with him.
He's the fastest human maybe that I've ever seen
on the field.
And for those of you who are looking for nostalgic names, think Billy Hamilton.
But I think this guy can actually hit at a real level at the major league level.
Adnan, how how fun is it to watch a player like Chandler Simpson?
And is he an indicator
that maybe just maybe Major League Baseball is headed back toward wanting stolen bases?
Well, I think they were going that way the last couple of years because, you know, once they
instituted the rule with the bigger bases and obviously less throw overs from the pitchers,
you know, that's definitely a trend towards more stolen bases. We haven't seen it accelerate,
I think, as much as they would like. Certainly stolen bases are up. You wouldn't have Shohei
Otani of a 50-50 season, I think,
if that wasn't capable.
That's right.
The stolen bases and number of pickups over.
But you're right.
It's not like the way it was in the 80s with Vince Coleman,
et cetera.
I mean, Simpson can fly.
That play on Sunday, the ball kind of shoots up and hits
Goldschmidt in the heel of his glove.
But Simpson is so fast, he beat Freed getting to the bag.
There's no way Goldschmidt could even made the play if it
was a clean play.
That's how fast Chandler Simpson is.
So he's gonna be fun to watch.
I share your enjoyment, Jeremy,
for guys who are lightning fast.
And you're right, Billy Hamilton,
if he could've just hit a little bit
would've been an all-time great lead-off hitter.
But I miss the days of guys like Vince Coleman
and William McGee, those great Cardinals teams
that could just turn in to track me.
Here's a random sort of grab bag of stuff.
I'm gonna ask you to pick one of these things to highlight.
There was Paul Skeen's bobblehead day,
which was such a cool thing to see,
lines wrapped around bridges
and around the stadium in Pittsburgh.
There was Yandy Diaz and his cleats over the weekend
that had crystals on them.
There were only 44 pairs in existence.
There was Liam Hendricks,
which to me was a really special story.
He returns after almost 700 days, not only beating cancer, but then recovering
from Tommy John surgery. An amazing story. And then there's Mike Trout, who's
having the funniest season. Ethan Badowski compared him earlier to me to
Prime Chris Davis. He has eight homers, but he's hitting under the Mendoza line.
Which of those storylines, Adnan, do you want to focus on here and add a couple
notes to?
I'll take Trout. I'm with Ethan. It's insane.
I looked at the day and it was like he has 12 hits this year,
but six of his 12 hits are home runs.
So like his average is like, awfully,
is it like under 200, he's under Mendoza line.
And yet he's slugging like 600. So I'm like, this is insane.
So it's a little sad. I never would have thought
three 10 MVP Mike Trout be reduced to being
a guy who's just a slugger,
but that's kind of what it is.
And the last time he played a relatively full season,
he had 40 home runs, 120 games.
So the power hasn't gone away,
but him hitting a buck 84 and he's 33 years of age,
we're stuck with like five more years of this Mike Trout.
It's a little disconcerting.
He's making $37 million this year.
Last thing for you here, we'll make it real quick.
Two impressive performances
from youngsters. There's Christian Campbell of the Red Sox, Max Meyer, you know where I'm headed.
Christian Campbell of the Red Sox reaching base safely in 21 of his first 22 career games.
And then there's Max Meyer, Max Meyer on Monday night of this week against the Reds, who had scored 24 runs the day before
throw six shutout innings, 14 strikeouts, no walks.
The only other pitcher in major league history with that stat line, Randy Johnson, which
to you Adnan is the more impressive performance from a youngster?
Well, the answer is Meyer.
But just to alienate you, I'll say Campbell.
Thank you.
Because it's been a great story so far for the Boston Red Sox.
And this is a Red Sox team.
They had the marathon game yesterday, 11 a.m. story against the Whites.
It's always fun to see.
Jeremy looks like a baby out there.
Like I cannot believe Christian Campbell is playing at that market with the Red Sox and
is reaching base virtually every single time on on base over 400 is impressive.
But no, the right answer is Meyer.
14 Ks, no walks.
I mean, dude, that guy was nails.
Mad Max, Fury Road, let's go.
Mad Max, Max Meyer, and you could say Christian Campbell
is the Trevor story of the Red Sox season.
Am I right?
All right, let's get back to our game.
Let's get back to our game.
By the way, I just want to say I had gangster wifi today.
I just want to make that clear.
Taylor, who was our final player?
I was traded by the team that drafted me for a reliever in a deal that also brought back
a pitcher who would later throw a no hitter.
Jesus.
I have a first guess.
I have the weirdest.
I don't think it's very good because I'm pretty sure he was traded for nothing, but I'm going
to guess anyway.
I wonder if we have the same.
My guess is Jeff Bagwell. Ooh
Okay, my guess is Mike Piazza. I'm going to say
Brandon Phillips we're going on to the four point
All right, so that dude was raw I spent my entire 15 year career with one team
I mean I wrote one down my entire 15 year career with one team. I got it.
I mean, I wrote one down.
Both of you have already written yours down.
How to win, right?
I put Craig Vigio.
I did Josh Willingham.
I regret to inform you guys,
all three of those guesses are wrong.
So we're moving on to three points.
But that clinches the win for Jordan.
That does clinch the win for Jordan.
Congratulations.
I still want to get this player right.
I want to get this player right.
Who is it?
Keep going.
Keep going.
Three points.
I am tied with Carlos Ruiz for the record of most no-hitters caught by a catcher with
four.
Is it Posada?
Jeremy, do you have a name written down?
Was he traded?
I had written, I had written Yadier Molina,
but I knew it wasn't right.
I'm tapping out or I'll take the next clue.
It's not Jason Castro.
We'll go to two points.
I am tied with Jorge Posada and Yogi Berra
for most post-season home runs by a catcher.
I got it, I got it.
Jason Veritek.
It is Jason Veritek.
Jason Veritek, and that's how we ended
with the name Jason Veritek.
Thanks so much for having me.
I'm gonna go run laps to punish myself.
Yeah, this is how we all feel
at the end of these games, Taylor, and it's your fault!

Jess, you can't talk about double digit national titles when every single call of you winning
the national title sounds like this.
Oh, there's Chubby Jacker running down the sideline.
If the audio...
That's not true!
Yeah, and there's a World War II veteran pitching into another white guy and he avoids another
white guy.
Oh my god, Notre Dame, the fighting Irish have done it again for the eighth time, only
paying white people.
Stugats.
Chubby Checker.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
He's black.
He's black and I was really going, what's a white name? Chubby Checker. I picked up like, I'm sorry man.
I'm improv'ing here.
I thought I didn't hear you correctly. I'm a white Chubby Checker running down the sidewalk.
He spells it differently. Alright, his name is Chubby. Maybe you didn't hear you correctly. I'm a Hawaiian Chubby Chucka running down the sidewalk. He spells it differently. All right.
Maybe you didn't hear me correctly.
His name is Chubby Chuckas.
There's an S at the end.
I feel like that should be the largest of five.
Yeah, Chubby Chucka.
It sounds like a college football name.

to break in the form of song, Zazlos. Are you ready for this news that we're about
to break? I don't think that we've broken news before in the form of song, so let's
hear what we've got here. Start spreading the news She's leaving today she's moving back to New York New York
four years in Miami is a long enough stay but she'll still do the show from New York, New York
She wants to wake up in a city near all her friends
Where there's a functioning train And sees an old change
These Heat Homer shows
Have pushed her away
Nobody cares about Heat Culture
In old New York. If she can work for Dan she'll survive. Any man it's time
to move New York, New York.
Woo!
Serenaded by Taylor is better punctuation than anybody.
I thought that was her.
Oh yeah.
I wish I could sing like that.
Congratulations, Jess.
You have parlayed an assortment of journalistic accomplishments
bigger than both Cody's and Zazzle's into a New York move that will still have you around
This is goodbye to Miami not goodbye to the show correct. This is goodbye Miami four years is a long time
I enjoyed my stay for the most part
It was a lot of fun for the most part and I'll miss you guys for the most part
No, you know in all seriousness. I'll miss you guys for the most part. No, in all seriousness. I will miss seeing most of you, just kidding, every day.
And yeah, it's not gonna be the same.
I won't be here week in and week out.
I see Mike getting emotional and I don't like it.
I'm not getting emotional, I'm good, I'm good.
It seems like you're emotional.
I don't know whether it's Cam Ward or Jessica.
It's definitely Cam Ward.
And this is a big day for me because I can talk about
the Canes without her shitting on them constantly.
Not yet, not yet.
I'm still here for the rest of this show.
Come on.
But I am moving tomorrow and I will be back in New York
in a couple months.
We're staying with family for a couple months
in the summer here, so.
Does Willow stay?
Willow is, unfortunately, she's already made the move up north.
The party planners here, they invented tequila. I was headed to the wrong Montes. Yeah, not South Beach, Dan.
The party planners here, they know me well.
They know she's not gonna leave her neighborhood
on a weeknight and she's not gonna get in her car
after 5 p.m. and sit in traffic in Miami.
So they sat in traffic for me.
It was very touching.
Lots of people drove from Broward,
which is, as we know, a hike.
And I'm very grateful for it.
If I may, and I'm not going to get emotional about this, I promise.
But Jess took a bet on us several years ago.
And this was before we really had a company and we were all just vision.
We were at the Clevelander.
It was drab and dreary.
It's hard to explain to her how it's hard to explain to anybody
how it was just broken pipes and nothing.
There was a bomb threat on my first day.
It was really bad.
Well, and you had to move out of your original house
because the neighbors were awful.
I had a cockroach infestation in my first apartment.
Yeah, we had a really difficult launch for her personally.
And professionally, it's not easy
jumping into a fully formed show
that is feeling a whole new phase of its incarnation out.
And she was an absolute pro the entire time.
I'm really sad to see her go, but I understand.
I'm also happy to see her go,
because I know that's home for her, Leman, and Willow,
and I'm glad that she gets to stay in the family.
I'm glad that she gets to reunite up there with Lucy.
And we-
Yeah, it's not goodbye, it's see you less.
Yeah, see you less, which, I mean, there's pros and cons.
Well, it's not great for Jeremy, I would say.
Yeah, I'm just sad you're leaving,
because no one else likes me here.
Oh, you think I like you?
That's true.
Pitch clock with Jeremy Tashay is coming up in about one minute.
Wow, I am really good at this job.
No one knows what I do, what I don't do.
What I like, what I don't like.
I am a pro.
Thank you, Mike.
Thank you, Jez.
