I mean I caught up on shark week on max and there was this They were doing a top 35 scariest moments on shark week and I'd seen the one where the bull shark takes the guys calf off That's a little naval gazing, right? It is, but they deserve it. There was this one time where someone was in a clear cage

and a great white shark breached while a guy was in a clear cage. And he totally wrecked the, did you see that? It wasn't a cage, it was like a, I don't know the material. It was this glass case. Yeah. And the shark tried to seal breach him.

I'd never seen that before in my entire life. The guy narrowly escaped. I was watching it on Edibles, it was wild. Billi's back, I'd like to know what Billy is laughing at. Something Christian said. Well, it's me not knowing. It was me not knowing the material. I just kind of petered out.

I'm like, I don't know what it's called. It's, it was a flexile thing. It was whatever it got. It was way too flimsy. Yeah. If I'm getting my brother-in-law and sister-in-law just went to the keys and swam with sharks and I was assuming that they're obviously in a cage

and they weren't. It's just a thing and they're like, oh, the sharks are just used to us. They're used to humans. Socks? Whatever. Are they not a slaves? They're not a slaves here.

They're used to people and I'm just like, I'm cool getting in a metal cage. I would do it. Billy, you would it. Billy, you were out. Did you notice that there are orcas in the keys now? I wasn't in the keys, so no. No, but it went viral on one of those stuff.

What were they doing? There was just a lot of orcas. And the theory is, there's so many great whites now around the Florida keys that orcas are traveling to the Keys to Eat them and also take part in fantasy fest. Huh. I don't I swam with sharks. We don't know it was in a vacation Did you really? Yeah, it was an it was an Epcot. Oh me too It was the safest place to do it because I was like if I'm gonna not get attacked by a shark It'll be at Epcot center because that's where I will not because there's no chance that they have a shark in there

That's gonna like eat you in front of children that are watching it and aquarium. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, same tiger shark. I've done the diving there too. Did you do the lay down and it swims over, you think? Oh, that was great. Do you know how I defied death at Epcot? My flipper fell off and I want to put it back on quickly

and I sliced my hand open. And I was bleeding in the Epcot tank as a same tiger shark, which looked like a little drowsy, was passed and through. and thankfully I survived. I went to, you know how they have that air pocket? Yeah. I went in there and I was just sucking my hand for use.

But it made me want to double down on my private take that the Marlin should try to acquire Miguel Cabrera no matter how bad his stats are. They're not terrible. Oh my God. What are we doing?

And you look at his statue, like, yeah, he should have retired before. Yeah, but he's making $32 million. So why would he retire? He also had a decent start to last year when he was on that chase. Yeah. So he's not that far removed from being. He was an all-star last year. Yeah, that's right. Well, the commissioner added him, but he was an all-star nonetheless. On Marin. Yeah. On Marin. Yeah. By the way, so you got your team. The worst. What happened? What do you mean what happened? The meds, like they just are selling everybody. They're not even, they're not even gonna be in a position to compete next year.

They're not even that far back in the wild card, that's the thing that I don't understand. There's six and a half back in the wild card. They're trading Scherzer who's 40 years old. No, they've traded him already. Well, he's gone. Verland, there's about to be gone. They had to staple $23 million to get them to take Scherzer. You know, they got a good prospect back. I don't mind that they're doing this.

Their team's lousy. They're not in contention. I know they're six and a half out of the wild car, but I don't mind that they're doing this. I thought the team would be better. I'm certain Stevie A. Cohen thought the team would be better, but they're not better. I call them Stevie A. Cohen because that's his name before he was the owner of the New York Met. Now he's just Steve Cohen. So they're going to move Verlander or the Marlins going to get a big fancy name out of this because they got David Robertson who I've been told is the same David Robertson

from when I was watching baseball about 15 years ago. The old Yankees were lever with the high socks. I remember him being good. Is he fixing things? It's a good thing. Is he fixing things for the Marlins? He's perfect so far. Oh, that's the thing about this baseball chest,

to God, that it's like they were breaking down that trade and complaining about that trade. And then pretending to go down and know in the weeds what these two 19-year-olds that were like in low A ball that they traded for him. So I'm like, I don't know if we should have given them. It's like you guys do not know who these people are. Like let's not even pretend you don't know

who they are what they did. Like why are you complaining about this trade? I'm learning so much through that chat, and. You're not learning anything actually. You're learning like things that your friends are saying that are necessarily true. Yeah. Well I learned that David Robertson is still doing the thing.

And it's, it's rare to get a perfect score. Maybe I'm just not as smart with base, but it's just a lot of perfect scores showing up in this group chat. In this group chat, every day everyone gets a perfect score, except the day that it was like, who got a sigh of young for the white socks? And then absolutely zero people showed who they did in the macular grid that day

And I was like yep, no one knew and I may have accused someone. I won't say the name Josh. Josh. It's Josh a pal Josh she's but ever since I called him out for cheating He's shown a few imperfections. He now is showing okay. I'm not perfect You guys cheating anymore. You guys aren't in the macular grid chat grid chat though you know he's he's really on a heater right now and i will readily admit i cheat i cheat in the immaculate grid but you know how i cheat i go to like greatest rockies of all time rancor there's this website this aggregate website rancor that is basically just one big best buyout it the pop-ups are crazy. But then I just refresh my mind.

And for me, the game is, oh, I know this player exists, and then I try to guess the other teams. It doesn't show me the teams that they play for. It's just a refresher on something. Like a helper more than a cheat. Yeah, like, hey, Todd Zeal, remember him? Oh, yeah, I remember all the teams that he play for.

So that's how I cheat. But I will admit that I do cheat on that. In the NFL one, I don't. that I do cheat on that in the NFL one I don't the NFL one just straight off the dome But are the more than it's gonna add somebody Billy like somebody of a ship or lander. They should right? I mean, I guess what are you gonna do here to pay him a lot of money? How many games back are they? Right now they're holding one of the wild cards positive tide. So they're a playoff team right now as they were playing bad other teams are playing Yeah, yeah, like the giants were playing bad at the same time. I think they're in a spot where they just just stay where you're at

When I saw this story, I was like, it's Mike and he called in to testify.

Is he going to snitch? Like what's that? What's happening? Yeah, that's a thing. You're part of this collective. And I immediately was like, oh my god, Mike might be in trouble. I don't think this is a recode situation.

Well, then I was trying to figure out like, you're okay. Is he gonna, like, did you snitch? Did you flip? I have to. Like, what's going on? You might have to, Mike. That's what I'm saying.

I think you have a family. You need to protect yourself, I think. So the narrative's gotten a little out of control But I'm waiting till Dan returns to discuss so I can sound max defensive whether or not you should flip on him I'm not what you're waiting for Dan. I'm gonna flip on For people that didn't read this. Don't take a public stand just yeah, yeah, yeah, I saw the big So sure what happened for people that didn't read the story? Miami her old ran an expose a investigative piece. It was really well done.

The journalism about how life wallet and genreese specifically might have breached some laws and the SEC is looking into them. Not the SEC that I was worried about entering this college football season. It was hard to see that one coming, huh? No, it wasn't. It wasn't. I think, should I start being defensive now? The upshot of it was that they're under criminal investigation.

Life wallet. Yes. You're on the record just be careful, Mike. Be careful. To me, it's becoming university Miami story, and I understand that. And John Ruiz made plenty of enemies. And he does deserve a public reckoning.

And we'll see what the investigation turns out. For me, it kind of bothers me that it became a university Miami story instead of a Miami story. When it's a Miami story, we've seen countless times, but I also understand why, because he was so associated through his own doing with the university in Miami,

but I will say this, flatly, someone that's in the collective, like John Ruiz hasn't mattered longer than he mattered in terms of the day-to-day influence in operations of how the collective gets going. But that doesn't matter, right? Like it doesn't matter what percentage of NIL deals he's providing the university.

It's more so like his persona and the appearance of him being deeply involved that is going to leave a scar on Miami if Charges come down right and it's exactly why we're in this predicament right now He's made an enemy out of people that are vocal on social media and they're enjoying their grave dancing Which I I think is is totally fair and in line, but I do want to say from an NIL perspective, my name is gone, a football recruiting cycle, which was highly touted and celebrated as the best in decades.

A men's basketball recruiting cycle, a baseball recruiting cycle, women's basketball recruiting cycle, all with the collective and the driver's seat. John Ruiz, to my knowledge, still contributes and donates some to the collective. It's not to the gaudy extent that he was doing before, but he doesn't have any more influence than any normal run of the mill donor in that collective. And I think that's the misconception

with with the John Ruiz stuff. But I think everyone will forget the second Miami signs of five star. Because right now the perception is, Miami's this tire fire and all that. We'll also say that all of life wallets and I.L. deals pass a rigorous NCAA approval process. And both sides of those agreements were executed. We're getting subpoenaed. Yeah. It seems like you're not ready to flip. Yeah. I think Miami is a tire fire because they lost to middle Tennessee state and Duke last year and they didn't make a bowl game And it was supposed to be like Mario Christa balls like in auguro season with Tyler Van Dyke Like I don't have to tell you all the reasons why you're excited for the season

I don't think I think the John I think the John Ruiz aspect of it is like a More of like a a tacked on IRL because people were like this seems sketchy right like what does this company even do? How is he a billionaire? This is something's not adding up and now you see an investigation. It's like okay yeah maybe like maybe those concerns were legitimate. Does he owe athletes money? No no like all those deals have been paid already. All those deals have been I'm glad you asked all those deals were were executed both ends of the of those agreements held up their ends of the bargains and no kids has been left with their hands out because John

Ruiz bail that's not something that's but there were allegations in the Miami Herald story that he bought other companies and they have not received payment upwards of like, you know, tens of millions of dollars for things that he owes people a lot of money and hasn't paid them out yet. But he's paying the kids. So the kids have been paid and taken care of. And the dollars. So all of his one-year deals, those played out too fruition and were completely upheld.

I think maybe where it got a little bit murky was maybe some people were talking about year two extensions and once it became obvious that he wasn't going to contribute to the degree that he was before, the collective had to step up. But the collective has been around for over a year now and has been totally in the driver's seat and there's been people that are of legitimate influence, not just given themselves titles that aren't necessarily concerned with being known. They're fine in the shadows and they're fine being the main focus. They're fine with the main focus being paying these kids, what they're worth, what they deserve, and elevating the program through financial means and not necessarily the fanfare.

The John Ruiz welcomed at first and is now appropriately turning against him because of what's going on and I can't speak to all the other stuff but I can speak to the University of Miami and I know every kid's been taking care of not overly defensive by you. Good job. Thank you. Thank you. But I also think if you've been listening to the show over the last year, I've been telling you that his his association isn't what he made it out to be, and that the university from an NIL standpoint has prepared to, and it's not just a John Ruiz thing, when the perception is you're all in on one person,

you're in huge trouble, because whether it be legalities involved, that's the appearance. That's the appearance he wanted to give, because the appearance he gave. He wanted to be perceived as a savior, and the university in Miami and the collective was in a unique position because even though you may know the truth, even though you may know that this person

is exaggerating about their level of influence, you cannot dissuade that type of giving. You can't turn somebody away that wants to give, especially when their money is standing up to the NCAA approval process. I don't know why the university, it's incumbent upon the university in Miami to have more rigorous approval process

than the NCAA or some of the other financial institutions. I do think that that is a key question in the NIL era, though, like what responsibility does the university have in protecting its student athletes from being involved in companies that may, like if this was FTX and now they're under federal investigation and you're seeing like Tom Brady get sued over his involvement,

does a university have the responsibility to protect a student athlete, hate to use that term, but a student player from doing a deal with them and then putting them in legal liability. That's totally fair. And that's totally fair. Yeah, that's totally fair. And then who is a student? I think that's totally fair. That point in particular, and Miami being a private institution

that views itself as an institution really interested in higher learning, I think that's a totally fair question to raise when it comes to the University of Miami, the counterpoint being if all of these deals stand up to the approval process, who are we to stand in the way of a student athlete, capitalizing on their name image and lightness, just because this person is sitting there. Right, right, right, right.

But does that make Miami liable then? I don't think it liable, well, certainly in this, in this discussion, like this. And maybe not legally liable, maybe liable, and ethically or horribly. Yeah, I think that's fair. At some point, the math was done. We've seen this Miami story countless times.

What happened with John Ruiz? I don't think, especially on this show, took anybody by surprise. At some point, the math was done that we don't know how long this will last. We don't know the viability of life wallet as a brand, as a financial, as this business that is looking for sustainable growth.

But we know that the money is good for right now and whatever makes come. That's Miami. Whatever may come, we may be fine with the optics hit. And I do think that you can navigate it easily with one signing. Look, the John Ruiz stuff was really coming to a head. I mean, really, where mayonnaise collective

had to mobilize maybe quicker than they anticipated was with the Tyler Van Dyke stuff. All that stuff was, if you remember months ago, this stuff was already coming out there and there was the perception that life wallet wasn't going to invest in student athletes a way that they did before. And right at that moment, Tyler Van Dyke

was flirting with Alabama. Collective found a way to keep their store quarterback from going to Alabama, which is the gold standard in college football. So I would say if you're worried about things from a Miami perspective, you shouldn't necessarily, you should look at the results. Should let them go.

What, Tyler Van Dyke to Alabama? Yeah. Alabama's quarterback situation. It's pretty dark. Well, they have Tyler Buckner now. They got Notre Dame's backup quarterback. Yeah. And he's reunited with Tommy Reese.
