Starting point is 00:00:00 Where's your playlist taking you? Down the highway? To the mountains? Or just into daydream mode while you're stuck in traffic? With over 4,000 hotels worldwide, Best Western is there to help you make the most of your getaway. Wherever that is. Because the only thing better than a great playlist... is a great trip.
Starting point is 00:00:22 Life's the trip. Make the most of it at Best Western. Book, direct and save at bestwestern.com. That's right. It's Thursday Thunder and it's presented by DraftKings. DraftKings, the crown is yours. Boys, we've got UFC 318 on Saturday, the last dance for the Diamond, Dustin Poirier, his trilogy fight against Max Holloway at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. We'll be doing an MMA Hangout live from the house.
Starting point is 00:00:58 This is a home stream for the boys. So youtube.com, Twitch, Twitter, wherever you find us. We are there hanging out 10 p.m. Saturday night. But that gets us to our Thursday thunder brought to you by DraftKings and JuJuGadi who put this beautiful parlay together. First leg, we're going to the main event, Dustin Poirier to win against Max Holloway. Dan, Dustin Poirier, you like Dustin? Old Warriors, the both of them huh last dance for the diamond you think he gets done I don't know I always fear Halloway
Starting point is 00:01:30 I know he's so old but Dustin look good against Benoît Saint Denis maybe have one last answer all right second leg Kevin Holland to win over Daniel Rodriguez and Superman Ryan Spann to beat Brzecki Brazil Brazil ski okay, that's a tough one. It's not a tough person. There's no there's no great. Yeah, there's no vowel There's a resist. Yeah, resist ski it is the BRZ makes it tough. Yeah Anyways span to win it's bandol in Superman Ryan span to win Kevin Holland to win and Spandawin. Spandawin, Superman Ryan Spandawin, Kevin Holland to win, and Dustin the Diamond Emporia in his last dance at home, brought a UFC event to New Orleans, to Louisiana.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Shout out to Dustin Emporia. Let's see if he gets a W over Max Holloway. I heard that you mentioned Superman. It allows me to play this Mike Francesa sound of Superman and ask Mike Ryan if he has actually seen Superman yet and what kind of reviews Superman is getting. I don't know whether the rest of you are interested in this. I couldn't be any less interested in it, but let's just play the Francesa sound. He broke it down
Starting point is 00:02:37 perfectly, I thought. There's a super dog. Who came up with a super dog? I mean we all like dogs, okay? And I don't like the dog getting beat on in a movie, it bothered me. But hey, who came up with a dog with a cape? When did that arrive? I watched Superman for years on television. I never saw a dog with a cape. It's a good analysis. He's right. I watched it last night. That dog with the cape is the cheat code. Because this is not a super relatable character. He's an all powerful being.
Starting point is 00:03:06 And that's usually been the downfall of Warner Brothers continually trying to reboot this franchise. Audiences just want more complicated heroes, but I gotta say James Gunn found a way to make Superman more complicated. I'm not going to give away, but there is something that is routine to his origin story that they change here to allow the audience to find a connection point with him and his relationship with his parents. I think the dog was a really smart maneuver here.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Who came up with a dog with a cape? And he plays the actor that they hired plays this in a very likable way. And I think given what's in the news stream, and I know Superman's been politicized, but let's make an analogy to Ted Lasso, where Ted Lasso came along at a time where people didn't really know that they needed something that was positive, a character that displays so much empathy.
Starting point is 00:04:03 I think people are really gravitating to that and I had a really great time at Superman and I am not a Superman guy. Just never did it for me. I like the heroes with an edge to them. I'm more of a Batman guy, but this was so well done. It's by far, including the Christopher Reeve movies, and there's a nice little tip of the hat
Starting point is 00:04:21 to Christopher Reeve's legacy with his son in this movie that people picked up on. But I think this is the best Superman movie ever made and I loved it I can't wait to see more of that character not my area of expertise But I noticed in Deadpool Guardians of the Galaxy the kind of writing that made Superheroes more flawed. Where did that start? Is there I know the old comic books and stuff Well with that muller is into it. Guardians of the Galaxy was this filmmaker James Gunn who DC and Warner Brothers turned to to once again reboot their failed DC universe and they loved the tone of Guardians of the Galaxy. I think
Starting point is 00:04:59 James Gunn nailed that for characters that weren't as beloved and now he gets to do it with quite literally the most famous superhero there is and he put his magic dust on it finds the connection points with music that you can relate to people can relate to dogs he found ways to get people emotionally invested in a character that's usually been displayed without emotion who came up with a super dog so you mentioned emotional investment. I was surprised to see the amount of emotion that Billy was putting into the investment of getting pissed
Starting point is 00:05:30 off at the Emmys. Not pissed, annoyed. Not pissed off, annoyed. I like the way I'm presented as this person who's just angry at the world. Well, you correct me each time, so you're not being presented that way without correction. Well, I mean, it's just an annoyance.
Starting point is 00:05:45 I mean, they just, they don't wanna make a decision on anything. Every category has like multiple people nominated from the same shows. I feel like if you're an outstanding supporting actress in a drama series, pick one per show. Not four from The White Lotus. Or five, five from The White Lotus, I'm sorry,
Starting point is 00:06:04 I misspoke, five White Lotus actress or five from the White Lotus. I'm sorry, I misspoke. Five White Lotus actresses nominated in the same category. Then there's like best cameo, which isn't what it's called, but it's like, it's basically best cameo. Outstanding guest actor in a comedy series. There's one, two, three, four, five, six, there's seven nominees. Six of them are from the studio.
Starting point is 00:06:23 Well deserved. You just wanna give the studio an Emmy. You just want to say the studio won 17 Emmys. Saul Saperstein. So what you start doing is you just nominate them eight times per category, so someone's gotta win it in there. Pick one per category. Why do we keep doing this?
Starting point is 00:06:38 I think we have a four in five chance of someone thanking Saul Saperstein at the Emmys, which is really all we want, but also it's baked into the fabric of the show, where they have these cameos, and there were most of the competition in terms of comedy series don't have that built into the fabric of their show.
Starting point is 00:06:53 Easy way out. Also, the White Lotus, everyone said this was a bad season of a White Lotus, they're nominated in every single category, and have like three nominees per category. Like, which one was it? Was it a bad show, or are they award-winning the White? Like, Why is everyone
Starting point is 00:07:05 kissing Mike White's ass? Maybe the tide's lower. Are the voters trying to get rolls? Guess what, buddies? He's on Survivor right now. He's not watching the Emmys. Where's Mike White? Unless he gets eliminated really early. I thought he was a backup quarterback. Yeah, where is he?
Starting point is 00:07:15 He's here. I'm a vulnerable. No, not anymore. Is he still here? Oh no, he went to Buffalo, that's right. That's why the Dolphins couldn't beat the Bills. Really? That was Mike Glennon. That was Mike Glennon. I messed it up. Mike, where's both of Buffalo? That's right, and that's why the dog is gonna beat the bills And neck who am I talking to right now
