Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to Giraffe King's Network. Oh, thanks, Dan, for asking. Mr. Waterpolo minute. All right, you as women, Waterpolo, we suffered our first loss yesterday. We're 1-1. It's so sad. Oh my goodness. Those Spanish sisters had that look in their eyes and that goalie was playing at an all-time rate. Ashley Johnson, she did a great job. She still was a plus 5.6 on the court as well as Maddie Musselman, 5.5 Tara Prentice, 4.5 Rachel Fatah, 4.4, you dig me? And you got to know Yvonne Sekulich. That's my daughter, salute.
Starting point is 00:00:53 But I just like seeing all the love that these sisters are getting. Jill Biden was in the building. She gave a flavor flavor hug, snoot dog in the building. It's like seeing all these people unite around these sports is the most fulfilling part of the Olympics for me. Question Juju, does water polo look like the sport that would be the most frustrating to play
Starting point is 00:01:15 given how much underwater shenanigans are going on? Right, so much shenanigans and that pool is deep and I'm supposed to be jumping up and getting, like how do they jump? When you're like just in the deep end? Like treading water. How do you jump from that position? There's no lie one of the two most the sports that I'm impressed with most in the Olympics It's like when you think about skating and ice hockey how you have to do it like second nature But you're just have to swim and you've got people pulling you down, pulling your shorts down. It seems like a very, very difficult sport.
Starting point is 00:01:46 What's the other sport? You said two. The canoe sport. The other one is gymnastics. Is there more poking? Canoe looks crazy. Is there more poking or pinching in water polo? Great question.
Starting point is 00:01:55 Well, how's your uncle? How's your uncle is the poking. What's pinching? Pinching would be your auntie. Yeah, I don't know. I don't have anything for that one. How's your uncle? I never heard that one. The US men's water polo just got a W though. So salute to my boys and
Starting point is 00:02:10 Unfortunately, I'm also tasked with covering the three on three basketball women's we just call the L To Germany ouch get well some sisters. How does that work? Are there any big name basketball players for the women playing like I know for the men for debt Jimmer for debts playing I believe for the men who were playing for the women anyone Howard Haley van lift We got got some good so you're a can be filling in for Cameron Brink Okay, you got her and Cassie Burdick and it's one thing that I found interesting about 3x3 First of all, it's called 3x3. Apparently I've been told that that's the proper nomenclature Not three first three or three on three.
Starting point is 00:02:46 I keep getting corrected about that. Why did X take over for V? It should have been 3V3. I don't know. Whoever told me that could be wrong. Out of control in here. No, I think you're right, because that's all I hear is 3X3. But who decided that?
Starting point is 00:02:56 3 Twitter 3. Eli. It looks really, I forgot what I was going to say, but it's 3X3. Yeah. Oh, I remember. Yeah, it's like you have to have a certain amount of qualifying events and points to qualify. So for the U S team, like it's very different than the last time where it was like Jackie young and
Starting point is 00:03:13 Kelsey Plum, like some of the like WNBA players that they wanted to have Olympic experience for playing five on five this year, it's more players that are well versed in 3x3. Is it the same USA basketball committee that decides who's on all these teams? That's interesting. I think they're yes and no.
Starting point is 00:03:30 It's almost like they're minor leagues. Same federation, but. Like they used it last time to get Kelsey Plum ready. It's kind of a different sport. Right. Like that's the thing that's confusing. Much preferred by me. It looks so hard.
Starting point is 00:03:39 Love a half court game. Love a half court game. But they don't stop ever. Like they're just going the whole time. Is it like take backs? I haven't watched yet three on three. Like are there is there literally like take backs? Yeah, for sure. That's awesome. By the way, this isn't Olympics, but the NBA is starting WNBA is starting a new offseason league three on three. Yes, in Miami. In Miami called unrivaled. That's gonna be pretty interesting. That's cool. So far, Angel Reese and Brianna Stewart are probably the
Starting point is 00:04:04 two biggest named players. Everybody's waiting to see if Caitlin's Caitlin Clark's gonna play but that's cool uh... that is so far uh... angel recent brown steward probably two biggest name players everybody's waiting to see if he wants to keep in class gonna play but that's gonna be interesting three on three five woman teams uh... very short season big payday they're trying to prevent these women from from having to do you know go out of country just uh... make ends meet which right says is headed by brianna stewart in the fees of college and they say found this is the uh... that is a really interesting point right because make ends meet, which is sad. It's headed by Breonna Stewart and Nafisa Collier. Yeah, they founded it. I think that that is a really interesting point, Greg,
Starting point is 00:04:28 because so far, everyone that's said they're doing unrivaled, they are the biggest names of the WNBA, and I'm curious how that will influence the next round of 3X3 tournaments, because it is kind of like, you're learning a different sport. It's much faster. I don't know if the rules will be the same
Starting point is 00:04:43 as international competition, where a shot inside the arc is one point, outside is two points, the ball's a little bit different, but it is really kind of weird watching it and retraining yourself how to play or how to watch basketball almost. Greg, how do you consume these Olympics?
Starting point is 00:04:59 Because yesterday I ruined it for my youngest sister who for some reason didn't think about the time difference and didn't realize she wasn't watching the men's gymnastics live. My wife ruined that for my youngest sister who for some reason didn't think about the time difference and didn't realize she wasn't watching the men's Gymnastics live my wife ruined that for me last night because I happen to just miss throughout the day Whether the the men's gymnastic and like midway through I was just like oh, this is a big mo. He's a pommel horse guy It's all he does my wife is just like they won they won bronze and I'm like what do you mean? He hasn't gone yet
Starting point is 00:05:20 I know I was being dumb cuz I was like it was clearly in primetime But I just had a moment and I was just, and then she was just like, she had to like, she was, she wanted to get out there. She wanted to do this. I got mad at her. I was like, there was no reason for you to say they won bronze. Like my, I was curious about this.
Starting point is 00:05:36 I was clear that I was in the, like I didn't know. I got mad at her. I was like, you just did a thing there and she smirked. Cause she wanted to break the news. Two weeks ago, you did some bullshit in the house. You didn't take out the trash or the other dish. Yeah, that's true. And she got you right.
Starting point is 00:05:48 Oh my god, Chris, the slow report. I know. Oh yeah. Ooh. That's a good idea. Could be a good time for a slow report. Caitlin Clark was left off the US Women's Basketball. Yeah, you gotta do that.
Starting point is 00:05:59 I'm doing that right now. You gotta do that. All right, Greg, do you watch it live in the afternoon? Do you just ignore things and then just watch in the evening and not check your phone i'd i'd watch it in the afternoon if it's an event i really want like that like when the women's soccer team is playing that that's must see tv for me whenever it's on but for the most part i know the wife and i are going to watch a couple hours of olympics at
Starting point is 00:06:21 night so i purposely try not to be too informed. You know, I wouldn't be a little bit surprised. Yeah, like I didn't know that the US men's in meds had won bronze until- Your wife didn't ruin it for you? No. She didn't say like right before the most, I'm sorry, I hate my wife right now.
Starting point is 00:06:37 She did not. She didn't know either. I mean, it's not like she's keeping a secret, you know. But I'm enjoying it, man. I watch both. It leaves me longing at night. If I watched it early, and even if I know the result, I'll still watch it later on the encore,
Starting point is 00:06:54 but there's no live sports on. I mean, there's, I guess, some WNBA games, maybe, right? Not right now, right there on the break. I mean, some baseball games, but I mean, come on. Like, this is the olympics right and so the olympics are going on and there's no events at night just makes me sad and so i kinda wanna watch the encore just to pretend like it's live yeah and and also uh... i've been to paris and it's just gorgeous and when you talk about
Starting point is 00:07:16 volleyball in the shadow of the eiffel tower and equestrian at the uh... palace of verse i there there's some of these settings for this Olympics are just visually stunning to me, which is part of my television enjoyment as well. One thing Izzy that I've found is that if you watch, if you go on Peacock and watch Gold Zone throughout the day, like you might see some repeat stuff in the prime time show,
Starting point is 00:07:38 but if you're watching like one like long soccer game or basketball game or whatever, they're not replaying those at night. So like you won't get, you won't double up. So you gotta do what Chris does and just not know the results and stay up late and watch it on NBC. Unless your wife ruins it for you. Hey there loyal listener.
Starting point is 00:07:55 As you know, in listening to this show, we've been around for almost 20 years. It's gonna be 20 years in September and a lot has changed over those years. Not just the cast, but the locations we've been doing it from. We started out in Miami Gardens, went to South Beach, and now we're in downtown Miami. A lot has changed. One thing that hasn't is the great taste of Miller Lite and the support Miller Lite has had for this show, which I'm very fond of. Another thing that hasn't changed is
Starting point is 00:08:19 that it's less filling. So what is the best thing about the original light beer? Miller Lite sparked this debate way back in 1975 And we still haven't settled it. For me, it's the undebatable quality, great taste, and only 96 calories You don't have to choose what's best. Miller Lite has great taste and is less filling. Tastes like Miller time. To get Miller Lite delivered right to your door visit MillerLite.com slash Dan or you can find it pretty much anywhere that sells beer. Celebrate responsibly, Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 96 calories per 12 ounces. Fewer cows and carbs than premium regular beer.
