Jess, do you have an update for us? I need an update. What kind of update do we have? It's breaking news from Jimmy Trana.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Charles Barkley, to remain at TNT, will not join ESPN, NBC, or Amazon, will not retire. Oh, Jesus. Oh Jesus. Shocker. He's going to kill it on the NHL coverage. Golf. How are they going to do that? Well I did actually read that they plan to utilize him on their NHL coverage and Charles is a huge hockey fan and often appears there during the playoffs but they have loads of
Starting point is 00:01:24 sports properties. College football now. They license the college football playoff, a couple of college football playoff games. March Madness. Baseball. They have two majors in golf. Charles loves golf.
Starting point is 00:01:34 AEW, Wednesday Night Dynamite. Charmed watch alongs. They know drama, Dan. Figure it out. But what about the show? What about the entire show and the basketball show? Well, I'll be curious to see if they continue that without the NBA rights. It'll be a bold move.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Maybe they call it Inside the Basketball. How are we going to do that? What sense does that report make? Ernie Johnson, I actually talked to Charles last week and he did say that there's no way Ernie Johnson is going anywhere, that he's almost 70 years old and that is his family. So he would not be leaving. But I'm surprised because he was mulling those other offers.
Starting point is 00:02:13 I am surprised he did not mention that he was thinking about going back there. So when you say that to me, I thought he was going to either entertain offers or retire. You're surprising me with that. Well, it's curious, I mean, he does have a contract that extends, I don't know how they drew that one up. Let's have Charles locked up to a contract that extends beyond the NBA. It's 10 years, $200 million was the contract
Starting point is 00:02:37 that he signed. So really, it's a report that obviously, a lot of people are interested in it, but all this is is like both parties agree to honor their contract. Hmm. I would watch that pregame and postgame without the basketball game in between.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Wouldn't you? Like I've done it before. I've watched the pregame, I've tuned into the postgame and not watched the game. Like I would still trot that out if I was TNT. Outside the NBA. Beyond the NBA. That's something that that show has the NBA. Beyond the NBA.
Starting point is 00:03:05 That's something that that show has the sense of humor to do, outside the NBA, to cross out the inside and just change it to outside the NBA. That'd be great. Greg, Cody, what were your thoughts on what it is that we just did? Because this is an unusual thing that happened to me. It's happened, I'm going to say, maybe four times in my entire career doing this,
Starting point is 00:03:29 where about six minutes into that interview, I could feel a heat on the back of my neck that felt like the audience breathing on it, saying, change the subject. Well, they would have really loved what happened 18 minutes into it. Mm-hmm. Like the dog? Six minutes, yes. saying change the subject. Oh, they would have really loved what happened 18 minutes into it. Wait, the dog?
Starting point is 00:03:48 Six minutes, yes. That was about 36 minutes into it. Yes, when that got going, I could feel the audience saying this is not what we tune in over here for. It wasn't when you said beef? I was a little worried that like we had too much Hitler and that was before the interview. That was a lot of that in the show today.
Starting point is 00:04:11 There's a lot today. Yeah. But we don't work for ESPN anymore. I had like a counter on that stuff. Whereas if like we went over, I'm like, all right guys, let's try to not go over that much. But here, no longer with ESPN, we can invoke that more, I guess.
Starting point is 00:04:30 I think you worry too much about the people breathing on your neck. I thought that was a good segment, and if you wanna talk about that, it's your show. Isn't that why you started your own company? Screw the people breathing down. Who wasn't breathing on your neck? Greg, because he could hold his breath for a minute.
Starting point is 00:04:43 He proved that today. Incredible. No, before that. I I said to myself how on earth does this guy talk politics for eight straight hours a day? In the middle of the interview. I'm thinking myself. Yeah, I get it now right this guy doesn't stop talking I'm thinking eight hours. He's just getting started Come on man, take a breath once in a while, you know shorten your answers Jiminy Cricket it was like an interesting message to tell the the Democrats from a young face that's now associated with the parties like you have the right for
Starting point is 00:05:16 your party to fight yes Greg you you were nodding vigorously throughout all of that because all of us are accused at all times of being an echo chamber. Yeah, I happen to align with many of his beliefs, not to talk politics, but he was good. He was good. I was trying to get in a word edgewise. You know, I needed a shoehorn to try to work in a question because he just didn't stop talking But I thought it was really good. I thought it was really really good surprised
Starting point is 00:05:49 He can't dunk him. I think anybody who's into this presidential race will be fascinated I don't think our cast is an echo chamber We have very very different opinions between people just on the show. I'm a registered Republican Still so I can fight it from the inside. This is not an echo chamber. Howdy, folks. We're in August now. It's the dog days of summer, but the summer tours
