Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to Giraffe King's Network. Metrolinx and cross-links are reminding everyone to be careful, as Eglinton Cross-Town LRT train testing is in progress. Please be alert, this trains can pass at any time on the tracks. Remember to follow all traffic signals. Be careful along our tracks and only make left turns where it's safe to do so. Be alert, be aware, and stay safe. Before we get to Jeff Bezos moving to Miami, Before we get to Jeff Bezos moving to Miami, he's bought like a $77 million plot of land and a $67 million plot of land next to that $77 million
Starting point is 00:00:54 plot of land. Can live anywhere he wants to in the world and he chooses the most expensive place and I wanna get to that in a second, but I don't know how surprising it was or wasn't that the LSU, the defending champion LSU Tigers of Kim Mulkey lost in their opener to Colorado by double digits got swamped in a way that was surprising. Jessica and Lucy were telling me that Colorado is very
Starting point is 00:01:23 good was very good last year and returned everybody, but I didn't expect for the defending champions to come out and lose by double digits because they felt a bit Yukon last year in terms of dominance. And I didn't think they would have any problem staying atop the sport is the sport change now where you're not going to have a Yukon that can just dominate because the top teams have gotten better enough, the South Carolina's have gotten better enough that everyone can feel at the top a bit like Yukon did. And so you have more parity that Yukon ultimately as women's basketball, dynastic and everything else, but it's not good to always know what the result is going to be.
Starting point is 00:02:04 And when you open the next season with the defending champion and a very polarizing coach Paul Dynastic and everything else, but it's not good to always know what the result is going to be. And when you open the next season with the defending champion and a very polarizing coach to got to coach that a lot of people don't like getting blown out in the opener, I was surprised by that. Should I have been? Yeah, I mean, Colorado's a very good team. So it wasn't surprising in the fact they lost, but Ellis, you made major moves in the portal this off season.
Starting point is 00:02:23 They became just like the example of a super team adding Haley Van Leith, a nice Samoro, like it was very shocking, just talent wise, there's no one in the country close to LSU. So it was shocking to see them lose in that regard, but it's the first game of the season. Colorado's a really good team. Iowa played them in the NCAA tournament last year and they almost beat us. It's not that crazy, but it's great to see the national champion lose the first game of the season. It creates this sort of narrative
Starting point is 00:02:49 where I was a little worried coming into this year that Ellis, you would be so talented that it would sort of create kind of like a former Yukon like situation. Do you think Angel Reese will go with the crown thing again during, because when she got announced like the starting lineup, she literally got a crown put on her.
Starting point is 00:03:04 I was feeling like when you're O and one, can you keep doing that? I don't think so, because Kim Mulkey came out and was like, my player, it's in try hard enough. I was disappointed with their effort. She was just going for it, so probably not. Wasn't her fault, there was everybody else in the fault.
Starting point is 00:03:17 That was her outfit was aggressively Las Vegas. I would not want to give a losing press conference wearing that, but she doesn't seem to care about it. Also, can anyone guess any of the non-women's college Hoops fans guess the last year you can while in the national championship? No, it's been a lot. It's been met here.
Starting point is 00:03:35 2016. It was 2016 during the Obama administration. So there has been, like, if you want to call it parody in women's basketball for a while when it comes to different national championships, different national champions winning in the sport. But like Lucy said, it is the first week. South Carolina looks dominant. They've been good for a long time. They beat the crap out of Notre Dame in Paris. Colorado is a team that brought back a ton of starters after a sweet 16 run. Shout out to Kate Fagan,
Starting point is 00:04:07 who narrated their hype video for the season, former Buffs legend. But it should be an interesting season at least, because anytime there's big upsets, like USC Upset Ohio State this week too, and they have a superstar freshman player, who, Joju Watkins, who's like incredible, it's gonna be a fun season, I think.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Also, just another note added to that Hayley Van Lift. Watch out for her in the tournament. She's a very good point guard who can score, can facilitate. I really like Hayley Van Lift. I want to narrate a hype video. Do you think I could do it? I'm sorry, Chris. I will take that under advisement in a second,
Starting point is 00:04:41 but Billy is grinning maniacally. How could you not? Because right now on. Guys, watch out for Kevin Durant also, by the way, really good in the tournament. This Caitlin Clark girl, really good. On the Pat McAfee show right now, J.J. Wat has appeared and Billy is delighted because he's wearing a very tight Pat Tillman, Jersey.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Veterans Day on Friday. It's just J.J. It's so J.J. It's long brand, Jersey. Veterans Day on Friday. It's just JJ. It's so JJ. It's long brand, too. Yeah. I was good. I first, I was like, was he number 40 on the car nose? Is he wearing his own jersey? Why would he be doing that?
Starting point is 00:05:14 And then I was like, no, I know what this is. Isn't it nice that he's wearing that? Why are we crushing him for that? We're not crushing him. We're just pointing it out. It's the most obvious JJ thing to do in the world. That's why. I'm not really crushing him. You're right. It is a very nice thing that he's doing. Thank you for your service.
Starting point is 00:05:30 JJ and Pat. In a world. They were not crushing. That's the start of my hype video. That sounded more like a preview. You need more than that. That was more a proof movie preview. Well, what would come after the in a world? I was going to splice it in. Like I would start with in inner world. Then you guys go back to doing show and then I do something else like 20 seconds later. You can't stop them. Even though you want to. Jessica, do I have it wrong that there are more teams at the top that can knock off the top team by double digits than there have been over the last 10 to 15 years in that sport. By double digits, maybe I don't know.
Starting point is 00:06:08 It's hard to say, like the parody question is a difficult one. Like we talk about it in college football all the time, like how you even evaluate. Like does that mean that any team can knock off any team? Does that mean there's more talent spread around? I do think that like women's basketball as a whole, like in the pros and in college, like the product just keeps getting better and better every single year. And it's always been good, but when you have a national championship game this past season where it's actually getting, it's living up to the hype. It's getting people that don't normally tune in to tune
Starting point is 00:06:37 in. Maybe that does mean that there's something to it, having new names in the championship game helps. But if you haven't been paying attention for a while, like I don't think it's as new and as like, relevant to me as people have been making out to it, uh, out it to be that just started watching. I will say I just got an ESPN notification that the NCAA reviewed the officiating from the National Championship game between LSU and I when they said, it was bad.
Starting point is 00:07:02 It was bad. I could have been a national champion. They were to give it me a ring. Are you taking one of Kimmelke's rings? I would love to do that. That would be a dream of it. But you have to wear the sequin outfit. I would wear that for a year if it meant I got that national champion.
Starting point is 00:07:17 The ring is hers. You're doing a move. I don't know why you're doing a move. I don't know why I'm doing this. I don't know why you're doing it either. Billy, I think, Stugatz, that in the realm of rich people, I have something that rich people get a good feeling about, the story I'm about to tell you, which is, a friend of a friend got great delight when Jeff Bezos came around trying to buy his house, telling him no, telling him it was not for sale for any price.
Starting point is 00:07:56 So dumb. So dumb. Double the price. Exactly right. Money's no object there. Yes. Because you have a price and then Bezos says, hey, I'll give you 50 times whatever your price is.
Starting point is 00:08:07 And you don't take it? I actually, I know somebody that has done contract work for and they overcharge Bezos. Like, it is a thing of, this is Jeff Bezos, we are going to give a big number here. You know Jeff Bezos is contract. I do know someone who does contract work that has done work for a place that Jeff Bezos owns
Starting point is 00:08:24 in Miami. And they overcharge him. And then it is like a place that Jeff Bezos owns in my amm. And they overcharge him. And it is like a field that they are now fired. Well, no, I didn't say who. Who was it? He's got one contract. My wife still has not forgiven a couple of people who did that or tried to do that on our wedding.
Starting point is 00:08:37 That is something that when the people find out they are hurt by it deeply. But as it relates to this particular thing, as you guys say, understandably, what an idiot that incredibly rich person is, who turned down Bezos, because he could have gotten double, you're speaking from the perspective of someone who's not as rich as these people who do delight
Starting point is 00:09:00 in telling Jeff Bezos, no, no price, you cannot buy my home. That is, it's not my world. I don't know from that world. I don't compete with others on riches, but I'm telling you that in this sphere where the Bezos of the world feel like they can buy a football team
Starting point is 00:09:17 and own a football team, and the other owners say, nah, you can't. You can't, Bezos. You can buy a lot of things, but you can't buy one of our football teams in that realm of rich people. They do delight in being able to do that. Bad business though. Bad business. It really is. He'll also, if he wants that house, he's getting that house, he'll buy their job and then make sure they're unemployed
Starting point is 00:09:37 forever. Like, you know, don't mess with Jeffrey Kits. Don't play this game. I mean, Bayzo's had to buy different, it was a different house that he had to buy. He didn't get to buy that house. Like, what do you guys, you guys are telling me, Bezos gets whatever he wants it. In this case, someone told Bezos, no. Yeah, and he's going to end that someone. That's what I'm telling you. Yeah. The person so smart, still paying for Amazon Prime every month. Did he hit that Riley dumb? I'm highly dumb. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
