Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to Giraffe King's Network. Don't miss the new Hulu original drama La Machina starring Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal, and Eiza González. And my property taxes are so high and they keep going up I'm just kidding I don't have anything else
Starting point is 00:00:50 Where are there were five in my parents neighborhood five twelve foot skeletons We could not get owner that's a lie dude. Just picking up would be funny. We could just start we already did. I don't know what We already did that. I don't know why as executive producer you failed to realize that she was still entrenched in character there, she works with you in the same room, I don't know what you were doing. Chris doesn't know that it's a bit. It's not a bit. It's not a bit.
Starting point is 00:01:13 Unless there's a behind the bit in 20 years about a girl obsessed with hating Florida Halloween, I don't know. You won't remember. This is for Chris Cody. You don't get the show. I wanted to get to Amin and Carl Anthony Townes because I was, Amin, and maybe you can correct me.
Starting point is 00:01:32 I was confused by some of the reaction between critical and bewildered at what the Knicks had done because I always trade for talent. I always want a unique player and in that package of players, he's not only the most talented player in that package of players, even though I love Jalen Brunson
Starting point is 00:01:54 and he is more productive or was last year, I think that Carl Anthony Towns immediately becomes the most talented player on the New York Knicks next and i think some of the reaction to the criticism is that people have fallen in love with the opposite of carl anthony towns which is heartenstein where you fall in love with these guys who are will guys and get your offensive rebounds you're like this person is clearly not as skilled as this person and there tends to be an overvalue of the gritty guy
Starting point is 00:02:27 as opposed to the guy who's just supremely talented. Hartenstein is gone now. I'm surprised, you're surprised by the fan reaction because you know fans in general, and especially in that city for that team, they fell in love with that team, Dan. I understand, but what Karl Anthony Towns is now walking into is all of that,
Starting point is 00:02:44 which will be a pressure unlike any he's known because they'll be really ready to turn on him. But I think that if you're the Knicks, Brunson Bridges and Towns has a better chance in terms of talent. I agree. At going at what is the Celtics than what it is they had before the first time i learned this i've told you this story before how a fan base could fall in love with people in a way that's delusional was a forty two and forty heat team that everyone fell in love with it was lamar odum and brian grant and dwayne wade and then they traded for shock and people in miami were mad and it's idiotic and carl anthony towns is more talented yes or no i mean then anyone who plays for the
Starting point is 00:03:24 nicks i think many people make an argument for brunson i will not from a He is more talented, yes or no, Amin, than anyone who plays for the Knicks. I think many people will make an argument for Brunson. I will not from a talent perspective. Carl Towns is the best center to play in New York since Patrick Ewing. That's not even, it's not even close. No disrespect to Marcus Camby. Is he the best player?
Starting point is 00:03:39 Carmelo maybe? I mean, it would be Carmelo. Right. It would probably be Carmelo. Better than Amari who was a top five top five MVP candidate one. Yeah. Yeah better better at this point This is why Dan there's a couple reasons reason number one is Carl Towns does himself No favors with the voice switching and stuff like that. He presents as Not your typical blue collar, hard nose, tough athlete, which is
Starting point is 00:04:08 what that market loves. New York loves this Charles Oakley, John Starks, even Patrick Ewing. Anthony Mason. Yeah, like Ewing, the greatest Nick, was still kind of a blue collar player. He was just a tremendous offensive player, but still tough, eats a bowl of nails for breakfast and that kind of crap, right? This one's interesting. I mean, what you're doing here,
Starting point is 00:04:28 because a lot of people would associate a certain weakness with Carl Anthony Towns that that city will chew up. So one of my favorite Carl Anthony Towns things that I bring up all the time, it's probably not fair that I do, but there was like one of those questionnaires that you, hey, what do you want to be when you grow up? Who do you look up to, whatever. And his answer at the time when he was in high school
Starting point is 00:04:50 was Scott Van Pelt, because he wanted to be a sports center anchor. Now mind you, at this point, he was like the number one and number two player in the country. And he's like, oh, who do you look up to? It's not Michael Jordan, not Kobe Bryant, not LeBron, it's Scott Van Pelt.
Starting point is 00:05:04 So that already gives you the insider like oh boy Okay, here we go. So he goes on he goes to Kentucky is very good at Kentucky. He gets drafted number one overall and He's he says a lot of the right things, but his actions are a little different in terms of prioritizing my own personal stats versus The the the will of the team or the good of the team, right? Which is fine when you're losing and nobody cares and you're like the state of Minnesota just happy you're there. But then you get a coach who doesn't play that shit and that coach's name is Tom Thibodeau. And Tom Thibodeau says, holy shit, I need help. I need backup. I need someone
Starting point is 00:05:38 who's going to come in and enforce my culture, my way of thinking inside the locker room. And the guy you get is Jimmy Butler. And Jimmy Butler comes in and he doesn't have bedside manner. It's a lot of F you and why aren't you doing this, that, whatever. And so now Towns is miserable, is bullied every day by this one dude. His coach doesn't like him.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Eventually, Butler forces his way out as we know, and Tibbs isn't long thereafter. So now you got Townes like hey they try to this is I'm again I'm talking about perception we try to do it like the tough way with him and he couldn't hold up to it. So this is what New York sees oh by the way who's the coach of New York? Tom Thibodeau. So that's what New York sees so when Carl Anthony Townes tweets his initial reaction to this trade that blindsides him,
Starting point is 00:06:25 it's the only franchise he's ever known, he thinks, I'm here, we're gonna win a championship, he did everything they asked him to do in terms of taking that step back so that Anthony Edwards could be the president of the franchise, he's been committed and everything, and now he get traded like a couple days before camp. He tweets out dot dot dot,
Starting point is 00:06:40 because he's shocked. And what is the number one response beneath him, beneath that tweet? Don't bring that bitch shit to the garden That's New York. That's where he's headed right now. Nick Offerman could be Dan in the movie That's a good one Can I be Amy Poehler? Why is she in the movie? She's me. Oh, I thought you were playing I thought you were playing A.V. Bowler. Oh, that would have been cool. Jessica Spadana as A.V. Bowler.
