Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to Giraffe King's Network. Alright, so like the segment ended and everyone just started yelling at each other about their list and about what constitutes a cool person in heaven. And I thought the definition was someone I want to hang out with. Someone, you know, I would, like, I would have a, go to a party with or like, or be in their environment, not cool, like, I looked up to you for whatever reason in acting or in the arts or whatever.
Starting point is 00:00:37 And apparently this was not like a universal thing for you guys. No, I think when we were talking about cool Charlotte, I think you nailed the description of it. It was like, hey, cool. Yeah, okay, I'm cool. Like, you look at them and you're like, that's what I think we were going to do. Like, you'd be cool being seen with them.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Like, no, like, they're cool. They give off cool, but you know what I mean? I know what the issue is here. Like, Janice Joplin, they've let a jacket that ran on the corner, you know. I'm like, hey, I was definitely wrong. I think that the issue here is that Whitty, myself, Charlotte, we're looking at others as cool, where a mean views himself as cool, and thus he's saying who would I want to hang out with, where we're looking at it and going, well we're not cool.
Starting point is 00:01:20 So let's just name cool people. Don't fuck me into that Jeremy. Who's the man? Hey. And where? Well, OK. I'm kidding, you're right. I know. That's why I put all comics on my list.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Because if you want to hang out and have a great time, you want sag it, you want rickals, you want Joan Rivers, you want all those people to just hang out, tell stories, and make you laugh. Yeah, here's the thing. So Brad, I've told Brad this before, one of my favorite things of comedian culture is when you go in a club and they're in the back room.
Starting point is 00:01:51 And that's the show right there. The stuff they do on the stage is funny, but the stuff they say in that back room and they're hanging out with each other, that's the real funny part. Having said that, I feel like Joan Rivers would just like shit on me the whole time. And like I don't know, that't know. It's pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:02:06 She would rip you apart. That's it. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't.
Starting point is 00:02:15 I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't.
Starting point is 00:02:23 I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't.'s like being insulted by Rickles. Of course, but I feel like Joan Rivers can take it to a level where your feelings are actually hurt. As opposed to being honored, you're like, oh my God, I got roasted by Russell Peters before at his show. And it was the greatest show ever. I still tell the story of his day, me and my cousin, where only two guys, he kept picking on
Starting point is 00:02:42 because we only two black people in the crowd. So it was truly a badge of honor, but like, because I knew he was like just messing around. Like I feel like Joan Rivers has digs that are a little too barbed. Joan Rivers actually hung up on the show. We have sound of it. You wanna listen?
Starting point is 00:02:59 Let's hear. Are you Jewish? I am not. I am. Shut up. And you don't know what you're talking about. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Do we get any clearer? No, you're very...
Starting point is 00:03:08 Shut up. You don't know what you're talking about. It's very strong. It's all I'm saying. No, I... Didn't have... Didn't expect that to start with... Are you Jewish? The number of people who have been on this show
Starting point is 00:03:24 or not with us anymore, but have had like, it like I was waiting for someone to see Super Dave Osborne. As that's another one. Bob Einstein. Bob Einstein with, he's another one with like a million stories. And now I was just thinking about it the other day, the voicemails he used to leave, Allison,
Starting point is 00:03:44 and the one where he could stop, wait, the one where he could stop wait the one where he says the show is cursed he's the one that invented the concept of our show being cursed and if you come on the show I want to live Hey let it show it you're looking at you she literally left the voicemail for our bookers and I'm not coming on the show because I want to live. Oh my God. Like your show is cursed. It's that cursed.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Oh my God man. He was so funny. So unbelievably cursed. The, uh, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, I mean, that dude was funny as hell, man. He told so many good ass stories. But you guys are like, no, you guys wanna see someone that you could tell everyone else oh, I hung out with Janice Joplin earlier. No, it's more of like the people who are hanging around looking cool.
Starting point is 00:04:36 I mean, because it was like, who I wanna hang out with and it would be a boring list. Like my grandfather, my mom, you know. I feel like my list is the same. It's cool people. They're also people I wanna hang out with. Who was on your list again? Janice Joplin.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Again, like. JR Tolkien. No, JR Tolkien is not cool. That's not hanging out. That's nerding out. Yeah man. You look like cool. This is the difference.
Starting point is 00:04:59 Cool isn't, hey, let me, he prays on you for the things that you did. So for instance One of my people on my list. I don't have to draw me a little doodle of a dragon. It would be cool I'm not sitting down with a Leah and saying hey man. I really love one and a million Hey, man like oh, I loved you in that movie Romeo must die. I'm I'm a Leo say what's up? What's going with you up? Hey, can I get you like I'm the holler in that Alia, right? That's where I'm hanging out with Leo and say, what's up? What's going on? What you up to, hey, can I get you a, like, I'm the holler in that, Alia, right?
Starting point is 00:05:27 That's where I'm at, right? If I'm with, who else did I have on my list? If I'm with Whitney. Whitney, work, I wanna see like, I want to know what it is to get drunk with Whitney Houston. You want it if he really loves me? Yes, I do. Well played, right?
Starting point is 00:05:44 That's what I'm gonna do with Janice Joplin while I get a cool little dragon doodle done by Dr. Joaquin. Yeah, and I would like to hang out with Shakespeare. I have a lot of questions. No, but you seem to be having questions about like... How did you write Titus and Dronicus? And even this way, if Charlotte, if someone was watching this show and had to rank,
Starting point is 00:06:02 oh, the five coolest people I want to hang out with, right? And Charlotte Wilder's number one on the list, right? And then they finally get, hey, guess what, you want to sweep sticks? You get to hang out with Charlotte Wilder and the entire time, they just ask you questions about. On Oddball, when you guys did this, did you ever think, like,
Starting point is 00:06:18 it would be the worst hand for you. I thought of someone being so excited to ask me questions about Oddball. About Oddball is incredible. I would love it. Did you think you're on anyone else's list, Shar? Oh my God, well, hopefully I'm not dead. So I mean, the list of people you wanna hang out with.
Starting point is 00:06:35 Those people, oh man, I hope not, cause then it would be sort of a bummer of a list, but I'd be honored. I just don't want to hang out with them to ask them about their job, right? I wanna hang out with them because they seem like they'd be really fun to hang out with them to ask them about their job, right? I want to hang out with them because they seem like they'd be really fun to hang out. Yeah, but the conversation can flow from there can be I mean, yeah, I see what you mean though. I see it would be cool.
Starting point is 00:06:54 Like if you're grilling someone is that cool as opposed to just like hanging out. Hey, Jared, talking hey, you watch the Super Bowl. What's the Super Bowl? I'm too busy being dead before football is even in bed. Like that's not a good, what are you gonna talk to him about? Not his book. Not the NFL.
Starting point is 00:07:09 What are you gonna talk to him about? Although, although. Baseball. Um, I mean, I'm not really understanding your differentiation between like people's jobs and their passions because I think for a lot of artists, your job, like your job's something you make money from, right? But also that can be what you're passionate about.
Starting point is 00:07:26 So like yeah, Janice Joplin's job technically was making music, but it was also like, she's a singer, songwriter, extraordinaire. This is my thing, man. I know artists. And as much as it's their passion, they don't want to have a conversation with a fan who just keeps asking questions.
Starting point is 00:07:43 When you guys recorded on the wings of a living on a prayer, what was it like? On the wings of love. On the wings of love. Jeff Rosborn. What happened? Bon Jovi. I just pick and random song names.
Starting point is 00:07:54 What you see I'm saying was that the dog by the way making that noise? Yes, it was, yes. I was like, why is Charlotte whining? What? I thought it sounded like. You guys guys thought she only did that on a ball. She was really hurt by your takes. Yeah, the dog. Mm-hmm. No. Oh,
Starting point is 00:08:11 Charlotte really likes Shakespeare, but and now that this is walk it the way I don't even know why I need to explain this but like do you guys understand what I'm saying? Like there's there is a Separate difference between asking someone about the stuff they do versus a conversation that actually humanizes them. Well, sorry. I think that's why picking musical artists actually works here. Like someone like Janice Joplin is someone who seems like a cool hang. I put Kurt Cobain on my list.
Starting point is 00:08:37 That guy seems a little sad, a little depressed, a little sad, a little depressed, but potentially telling some really cool stories about who knows what. And I imagine that guy is willing to get into some really interesting conversations. Can I, I knew someone growing up who thought it was Kirko, K-I-R-K-O, Space Bane, B-A-I-N. Kirko Bane's. Kirko Bane's. Anyway. Kirko, come on.
Starting point is 00:09:00 This has already happened here. I think Frank O'Harris. No, but I mean, my question to you is if these are, if our lists seem different, what would your list be of people you'd wanna ask questions to? Oh, wanna ask questions to? Yeah. It would be like Malcolm X and like Martin Luther King.
Starting point is 00:09:16 It would be like, but then again, like I feel like I would be a very uncool hang for them. That's kids just won't stop asking questions. And at the same time, I'm like, hey, you guys wanna get f***ed up now? Like, not really, because we're too busy worried about the state of, oh yeah, you're right. We're solving Heaven's illness.
Starting point is 00:09:34 Yeah, you guys are right, my bad. My bad. Heaven's illness? Those ills in Heaven. I mean, there must be, oh. Earthly ills from Heaven. There you go, that's much better. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:09:43 Like, I don't, I don't want it, like, dear or token, look, Lord of the Rings great to you all that's up, but it's like I don't want to hang out with George Lucas if I can't ask him about Star Wars I know he's a lot but But I'm you don't know it's because it's like a heck no, but you do with George Lucas is like you talked him for 11 minutes about something that he wants to talk about He says one little thing about Star Wars, that's the opening bang. You take it and run. I have the closest example of this, right? Someone who's art, you really enjoy and stuff and then you finally meet them. Guy named Dave Polone.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Dave Polone is a big deal over at Lucasfilm, right? He is George Lucas' apprentice. He's a guy that came up with a lot of these Star Wars shows and stuff like that. He knows that they can and inside out, right? During the finals, maybe like five years ago, we're in San Francisco, one of the guys who listens to our podcast says, yo, I work for Lucasfilm. Do you guys want to come to the headquarters, do a tour and then what have Dave meet you guys? I'm like, are you kidding me?
Starting point is 00:10:40 And I'm the only one who knows. Everyone else is like, who's Dave Follon? I'm like, guys, we're going. So we go with this tour. The end, Dave Follon comes out and typically he's always wearing this cowboy hat but today he's wearing a penguin hat and he walks up to us. Pittsburgh?
Starting point is 00:10:53 Yeah, Pittsburgh penguin hat. And so he walks up to us. Ron says, what's up guys? What's up guys? Are you guys with me? It's being right, like, yeah man, he's like so excited to meet you guys and he says, I have to sit upstairs all day long
Starting point is 00:11:07 with these nerds and none of them watch any sports. And so all we do is talk about Star Wars all day. And finally, they told me the ESPN people are here so I can finally talk about sports. And I'm like, yes, talk about sports. And they're like, that basketball. No, but here's the worst part. So first of all, I'm like, well, shit, I had all these questions about a Soka and all this stuff like another. That basketball. No, but here's the worst part. So first of all, I'm like, well,
Starting point is 00:11:25 shit, I had all these questions about a Soka and all this stuff like that. Now I can't ask him this stuff because he's already established. Yo, I want the cool, I want to hang out with the cool people. And one opening, all you need is one opening. But here's the problem. He then says, yeah, man, the esports guy, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:40 I wanted to, all I do is want to talk about hockey. And like, luckily my producer, Jade Hoy, huge wanted to, all I do is want to talk about hockey. And like, ah, luckily my producer, Jade Hoy, huge hockey fan, but much like money of us here when it comes to 90s baseball, really knows about 90s hockey and then his knowledge starts like 95. So he said, sits there for like 40 minutes, talking to Dave Filoni, just about hockey from the 70s and 80s, right? Just like banging on about Rob Neater, Meyer That's when you bring up the ice planet of Hoth
Starting point is 00:12:08 Dude, I just sat there to the They're just like sad, but also like happy but sad. I'll post the picture I have a picture with them that I took on that day and you can see on my face Glee and also pain like I didn't get to say anything that I wanted to say because he established up front that cool people don't do that. Cool people show up and they talk about cool things Charlotte.
