Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to Giraffe King's Network. Welcome to the big suite, presented by Giraffe King. Why are you listening to this show? The podcast that seems very similar to the other Dan Levitard podcast. I'm sorry, I'm not going to apologize for that. In fact, the only difference seems to be this imaging. I have been tempted in restaurants just walking past tables to grab somebody's fries
Starting point is 00:00:33 that if they're just there. That hasn't happened to you guys. I've done it. And now, here's the marching man to nowhere, that face and the habitual liar. The dolphins have the giants this weekend. The giants have been terrible. We have not done preview football,
Starting point is 00:00:50 but I do think that this part is different if I can speak for a fan base. I don't know that I can. I don't know that I'm allowed, but in 25 years of watching, like truly terrible dolphin football because when I say the standard is different in this time, like Stephen Ross isn't even loudly unpopular
Starting point is 00:01:08 and he's never wanna play off game in football. The owner of the dolphins has never won a playoff game. I had a different feeling than one that I usually have around that dolphins loss at Buffalo. I did not think that they were unmasked. What I thought was, oh, there you go, good team. Your offense slows some, still feel good about my team, we'll come home and get it fixed.
Starting point is 00:01:33 And that is not a dolphin feeling before. There's an apocalypse in Buffalo. You lose by four touchdowns, but you expect because you're gaining trust for a coach who wasn't ready for RG3, a coach from a tree of young people that you now trust because everyone in the media is telling you whether you understand it or not.
Starting point is 00:01:54 Hey, you know Miami's scheming people to death, right? Like you know that the things that they're doing, if not revolutionary or innovative, like your coach isn't gonna look like Sean Peyton right now because he's one of the kids who learned playing video games at the knee of the channa hands and birth this kind of football where we can all see, oh, if your coach has a little bit of an advantage and you definitely have a speed advantage all the time, you look a lot like the 49ers where they're ravaging you on defense because they've short up that side of the ball and they've got a cheap quarterback.
Starting point is 00:02:26 But this team is built in that team's model, the schemes, the things that are being done. This is, Shanahan is already a teacher. He's not a pupil anymore. Like he's not the guy who took Atlanta to the Super Bowl and Matt Ryan to MVP. Like he is now, Bella check, I saw coming in this morning. I saw it. They're talking about Bella check as if he's done. The Boston radio host that fired him week two, he was early to the party, but the man, that fan base getting this slop of football while you know that at the top of the division, oh, shit, Josh Allen and young Buffalo and look at the dolphins and we've been left behind.
Starting point is 00:03:06 We've run this division for 20 years. If you think Mike said obnoxious is a heat fan, what do you think Patriot fans think they're entitled to? When is the last time we had this scheme of energy? You're making me think right now. Like when is the last time the dolphins had a coordinator that they were like this guy's 1972 was a Jimmy the Jimmy defensive Like, he wasn't the coordinator, but like his defense maybe.
Starting point is 00:03:26 I don't know what the dolphins have had in geniuses are of discipline, not strategy, of coming in and being a boss of Don Schuyl and Jimmy Johnson and creating a tough guy culture. That's not what this guy is doing. Like, that's not Mike Metanyu when he talks, you're not here, you're saying he's goofy or he's cool because he's himself, uh,
Starting point is 00:03:45 but he doesn't mind being a numbers nerd who like gets really excited about helping these players. Like it's such a different mindset. Man, Sean Payton goes to Denver. I got this. I got this. Nope. I'm not going to have any problems here.
Starting point is 00:04:01 I made Drew breeze. Drew braze. Drew breeze didn't make me. You come in with that ego and that scores 70 points on you and everyone's paying attention now. And I think everyone has the feeling, maybe you don't trust them, maybe you think they'll lose, maybe you think there are injuries so getting the way, but I think everyone has the feeling because they've seen the speed when they see Tyree Kell is in the backfield
Starting point is 00:04:23 and he's going in one direction in motion, but everyone's following him because why isn't in the backfield? And a chance is running the other way with the football because go ahead and defend us when the two fast disguise in the league are running to your sidelines right now. One with the football, but you're leaning toward the other one. When you're looking at the skill position players, 432, 432, 429, 429, it's like they have a speed advantage everywhere. And even so, in the play where Tyree kill runs his own route.
Starting point is 00:04:47 And two is like, what did you do there? Oh, it was a 57 year touchdown. Yeah, he scored 54 yards out on a route that two of didn't recognize because of how they've opened up the field. While you watch Kamara 13 catches for 33 yards. You don't want to watch. You don't want to watch that as football.
Starting point is 00:05:03 Pick it 60% of his passes behind the line of scrimmage. Why? Because your whole thing is constipated. You're playing in an airplane bathroom. Everything. Third and four to you seems like something. This is what I love about the dolphins and this incarnation. Yeah. Third and nine. What of it? Like that's something I haven't seen since Marino down here. Like at all. That hasn't existed. Third and nine. okay, and three downs to get 10 yards for that offense. Like my feeling is that's going to work all year. That that if they could just not be injured along the offensive line and it could look like the first three games of his protection. My guess is they'll look like that. I think the
Starting point is 00:05:39 feeling of South Florida right now is that team is coming back to beat the giants, to drag the giants. And the funny thing is when you look at back to beat the giants to drag the giants. And the funny thing is when you look at the dolphins, I think they lead the league in explosive plays which are 15 yards or more. It's the greatest indicator of scoring is those explosive plays and it feels like every play, they have a guy going for 40 yards. And McDaniel rocks the joggers better than any coach I've ever seen. He's showing ankles, not a lot of coach show ankles. Has anyone find out whether he was vaping? Do we know?
Starting point is 00:06:05 Yeah, he's played he's played Koi with that seemingly confirming it or his sunglasses getting bigger They're getting cooler. Are they not getting bigger just bigger? You think he's just aging that he can't see I think maybe he's also because he's funny like that. I think he's getting slightly bigger sunglasses every game Is he doing a scary movie three? Like with the hat? Yeah. You think that by, you think by week 17, he's going to have a cartoonish slate. Like he's doing what Jimmy Butler did the media day. He wants us to have 17 photos, the telefunny story.
Starting point is 00:06:35 Yeah. It's just going up like 0.3 each Sunday. Can you tell me whether you had your heart broken last night quietly by your soccer team? Messi is not playing when he does not play. They lose four to one. Yeah, they they've actually played some pretty compelling attacking soccer without Messi early on in his injury, but they've failed to win their last four matches, even losing the US Open Cup, the oldest trophy in America.
Starting point is 00:07:05 And now they are in a real bad way in terms of the playoffs. They need help. They went into a sold out soldier field. It was a really cool atmosphere. And Chicago Fire got to play against Inter Miami without the player that sold out. What does that mean? Sold out soldier field? Like like what is the capacity that they do for soccer? They don't do football capacity. They do. Yeah, yeah. No, so sold out soldier field and Chicago, which was dead on the vine. They had had like two points in several matches they got lucky and had a red card in their previous match and now they had all this life breathed into them, and they had this crazy atmosphere yesterday.
Starting point is 00:07:46 The game was actually one, one at a point with Miami bossing the game, and they miss two golden opportunities, and after that, a terrible turnover, and the game gets out of hand within Miami chasing the game, but I really want to talk about, and I saw Deadspin try to write a think piece,
Starting point is 00:08:02 or whatever think pieces are for deadspin these days. And they call to attention, what is MLS doing with this injury? Because it's putting teams in terrible situations because they've sold out these buildings. Chicago Fire had to put out a statement in advance of the game. We don't know if Messi is playing, but because you're coming out, we'll give you $250 discounts on season tickets. You have all these advanced tickets being sold and secondary market when crazy,
Starting point is 00:08:26 when Messi was announced, and MLS has historically been really good with detailing injuries, really good, amongst the best in the sport of soccer. But with Messi, there is all sorts of ambiguity and it's kind of bullshit. And it's a let's strike kind of from the record. It is bullshit.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Just come out and give an injury timeline. Be more forthcoming with that injury. There have been reputable reports out of Argentina that say he's out for the season. I have heard through chatter that he is out until the international break. Inter Miami have two games in hand. If they're against opponents that they are chasing directly
Starting point is 00:09:05 with Charlotte FC one at home and one at Charlotte. It would be huge to get them back for those two games at Charlotte if provided that there's something to play for. But they are just being coy about this entire injury. Meanwhile, he's not making trips. And Jordi Alba's also injured. And when asked about Jordi Alba,
Starting point is 00:09:23 Datham Martino says his injury is a little longer than Lionel Messy's, which is like the most ambiguous injury we've ever seen in the sport. Mike, the part that floored me because I was asking you about the capacity for soldier field, I don't believe an MLS game without Messy would fill soldier field. I thought I was under the impression everyone knew that messy was out and there wasn't the expectation of going to the stadium paying whatever those tickets are. And we can have a whole sever conversation for a long time about the gouging that goes on when all of a sudden you get a messy. And now you want to raise all of the money around this because you
Starting point is 00:10:01 want to capitalize in a capitalistic place off of this guy. But you sound like you're telling me they sold tickets with fuzzy injury stuff because then you get the hundred thousand, you don't have to give refunds and everyone knows Messi's not going to play. You never give refunds for injury. That's how sports work. But when the news of Messi coming in or Miami breaks, everyone rushes to buy tickets to see him on the road. Oh, he's coming to Chicago in the second part of the season. Let's snag tickets and also scalpers do that. Let's get these tickets and the way that the secondary market
Starting point is 00:10:35 and the primary market work is you get your tickets and you hope to God that Messi shows up where it's unfair and then we'll know the secondary market anything, but you should manage expectations because there's a lot of people that have spent a lot of money on these tickets that are going there and are being surprised because they haven't come out and said that he is not playing. They didn't even come out and say that he wasn't playing here.
Starting point is 00:11:01 The statement that Chicago fire put out yesterday said, we have no idea if Messi is playing. And I do think you owe your fan base something. And there's a gamesmanship angle to it that has been totally absent. Like what are these government secrets? Bill Belichick is handling injury reports now? This isn't gamesmanship, this is all business, right? This is what, is it this naked?
Starting point is 00:11:21 Are you telling me it's as simple as we know Messi's not gonna play but we'll charge you for the possibility that he might. Because the idea is that for Miami to announce he's out for the year, craters, road attendance everywhere. And even though the tickets have been sold, concessions haven't parking. Hold on. Hold on. Of course it's this whole thing is a grift then. Hey, are you still that kid from 1995? I'm Jeremy. I'm Jeremy. Yeah. This whole thing is a griff then hey are you still that kid from 1995?
Starting point is 00:11:45 I'm Jeremy. I'm Jeremy. Yeah, this whole thing is a griff. What do you mean? We sell you mean it's a business daddy We sell hope don't call me daddy. We sell a whole beer, right? That's all we do and so people come with the hope to see The second best Argentine football player of all time in the flesh But if they don't seem they still Have to buy hot dogs and beers and all that and then on top of that what might just said what the Chicago fire did said Hey, you know what as a our bad we're gonna give you discounts on Season tickets next year. Well guess what how many of those people weren't planning on getting season things
Starting point is 00:12:23 Well, they gave us $250,000, obviously, might as well. So they just turned it into another sales opportunity. This is all business. Is Mike allowed to be hurt by that? No. This is growing up. Grow up, Mike. It's not a little, little friendly MLS anywhere.
Starting point is 00:12:38 No, we're running out of time, but I do think we should get into it maybe tomorrow about InterMion, he'sione season ticket predicament because that's been well documented. For this, I understand it. It's a kind of BS that I had expected of maybe the NFL. It's a kind of BS that I had expect around a tanking NBA team that wants to disguise whether or not a start player is available. I don't even get this in European soccer.
Starting point is 00:13:03 The thing is, it's not how MLS operates. For the most part, their injury policy has been pretty forthright. But when it comes to messy, we're writing rules on the fly, and there's a lot of families that are spending a lot of money that are probably spreading themselves a little thin that maybe don't have access to social media sites that are constantly updating this so-and and so non-verified report out of Argentina that are going there and are honestly feeling like they're being punched in the stomach and I do think that the league should do the right thing and establish a timeline or at least be a little bit more forthright because the ambiguity is only hurting people.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Mike, I went to England in like 2016. I went to Brentford, which was a third division team at the time and I said, oh, let me get tickets to the game. It was sold out for months, no chance for this third division team that wasn't good. Dude, that's their culture over here, over there. Over here, we got to move units, man. And that's what they're doing right now. They're trying to move units,
Starting point is 00:14:02 they're trying to make that leap from side show to one of the big shows. And this is part of it, man, this is America, Jack. Well, it's not just America though. I love when the sports teams represent the cities. So of course, A Miami team is gonna run a grift on you with the most popular athlete in the world. Like, it won't be truly Miami, like, in bread and our culture unless it is on a
Starting point is 00:14:26 foundation of total commercial grift and greed. Starting point is 00:15:02 I just heard a song that had Frank Sinatra singing from the window to the wall to the sweatshirt up off my balls. Two cats. We all heard that right? So what I'm saying here. All these females crossing and all skits, good god damn. Oh blue eyes. Congratulations on your shooting, I'm very sure. This is the Dan Lebertar Show with the Stugat. It's the Dan Lebertar Show out at Miami Heat Media Day, 10-day Tony, Jeremy Teschek, Chris Cody.
Starting point is 00:15:35 And we're very excited. We're told we were gonna get multiple heat players today. Jimmy is a vibe. We just got done with Spowe and Jimmy talking at the press conferences. And we're having a lot of fun out here, guys. What are the takeaways from emo, Jimmy? I didn't know how to take it when Jeremy texted us I think I think Jimmy's emo and I'm like what?
Starting point is 00:15:53 That's true. I think I put excuse me. Yeah, that's exactly what happened I was I was slightly late today to see you should have ran the game traffic. It's a whole thing Yeah, it was a whole thing we don't need to get into it But because of said traffic I was walking in the tunnels of the arena's a whole thing. Yeah, it was a whole thing we don't need to get into it. But because of said traffic, I was walking in the tunnels of the arena. Got a little sneakily. And saw was just behind Jimmy Butler and saw long straight hair coming down his back
Starting point is 00:16:16 as he turned to corner. And so I texted two of you guys. I think Jimmy might be emo today. And you were not wrong. And it was right. It was Jimmy Butler World. It was Andre 3000. A fallout boy.
Starting point is 00:16:32 Yeah. Little Jimmy was his vert. And good. So as we're waiting, we know that this is kind of coming now. We're waiting in the media room for Jimmy to walk in. And I say to the crew, he's going to be the meeting member that overlaps at Jimmy. And who was it? Yeah, yeah, yeah, laugh it up.
Starting point is 00:16:49 You, who was you? It was a quiet room, okay? I was just trying to get it. Can you recreate it? I really couldn't. There's no better background laughing this thing right here, okay? Do it right now, you can do it on command, you said. Oh, that's good.
Starting point is 00:17:02 I can unleash that thing whenever it's needed. And I did it because I felt the silence and Tony knows I hate silence. And he walked in and there was silence so I threw out the lap and he reacted to my lap. He goes, laugh it up, guys, laugh it up. I'm in my emo state. We may have gotten the very best sound bite
Starting point is 00:17:17 of the entire day at the beginning of the day. Because of this laugh, thanks to Chris Cody. And it was just a laugh. It was fully fake. It wasn't even funny, fake laugh. But the best is that I was just like who's gonna do it? Who's gonna be the guy? And it was me. It was you man.
Starting point is 00:17:30 You stepped into the breach. But it already could. You did. And also a good moment. Anyways, a lot of fun stuff plans. We have today boys. We got Kevin Love. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:38 We have Jaime Hames, Jaime Hakez Jr. There we go. We got it. We're pushing through. We're not doing this. You know what? Let's do the whole thing over again. Nope. We're not. We're pushing through. And we got doing this. You know what? Let's do the whole thing over again. Nope, we're not. We're pushing through and we got Duncan Robinson. Hopefully we talked all those guys and we're gonna just Yeah, it's the day and let it show we love it. You're gonna Kevin love it.
Starting point is 00:18:02 All right, we're here with Kevin love. Welcome back Kevin. You're here first full season with the Miami He, how are we feeling? Feel great. It's your 16th for me, but I get the first full season with the He get to go through training camp. No, I'm living. I'm not living out of a hotel anymore. That must be nice. Yeah, things are good. What keeps you coming back? You're 16. Just a love for the game. I still have that raw youthful hunger. The energy is still there. The love for the game is still there.
Starting point is 00:18:30 And I think that was renewed, especially when left Cleveland and came here, just the way that they operate, their attention to detail, their go out and get it type of mentality. I think it's certainly not for everybody, but kind of where I was at in my career and having a big role in the team that I'm making it to the NBA finals. I think that keeps me coming back for more. So I feel like I found a home here. All right. Softballs are done. What's the most annoying part of an NBA season in your 16th year? Um, you know, it's easy to say bringing along the young guys with all the bad habits,
Starting point is 00:19:07 but we have a UCLA guy that we had, so we're in a good place here. Start telling them like old man boring UCLA stories yet. I'm going to. It's coming. What's the first one? It's definitely coming. I'm gonna tell him about like some, I don't know, some bill wall story that was back in my day type of shit.
Starting point is 00:19:22 We have a segment for that, by the way. Yeah, okay. Yeah. No, a secret for that, by the way. Yeah, okay, yeah. No, so he'll be good. He was actually the, I don't watch much college basketball anymore. I'm one of those guys. I think the game is top heavy. Outside of that, I mean, you guys tell me you guys
Starting point is 00:19:38 watch college basketball. Yeah. I mean, who watch college football? Yeah, college football or locked it. I watch college football. I'm locked in on college football, but, but I don't know, outside of UCLA, some of the teams that, that the day into play and some of the high draft picks,
Starting point is 00:19:51 I don't really watch college basketball. I'm NBA to the fall, a fullest. But he is certainly a player that I watched through and through because UCLA was, and always will be my team. So I'm happy to have him, but you certainly get to get, get caught with some of those heaters with those stories that he's not going to like Kevin. Not to make you feel old, bro, but I used to play as you in NCAA
Starting point is 00:20:12 basketball, the video game. I was like, dude, this guy's so cold right now. I was doing the last, you're like, you and Blake, like the last guy Blake was the next year because he was on the cover. He was, uh, yeah, he won national play of the year. So yeah, Oklahoma, I think that was it too.. He was, uh, yeah, he won national player of the year. So yeah, Oklahoma, I think that was it too.
Starting point is 00:20:26 Yeah, like after Blake's season, it was done. There was no more NCAA basketball. Because they don't need to bring it back because it's a cause because basketball. It's like you could have 12 teams and that could be it. All I've heard this off season and late last season was what a great locker room guy you were. Can you kind of paint a picture of what that looks like? Are they overhyping it a little? Is there any party? They're like, I'm just a guy. What's it believe you hear a great locker room guy? You're like, okay, he's a shit player.
Starting point is 00:20:50 He's a virgin for me. Yeah, yeah, he did. So for me, I like to, you know, because it does, it did seem before you got here that the locker room, there were reports not having a lot of fun. So like, did you actually have to get in there and do some leading? Like, what? I was just unapologetically myself. I like to, I lead in my own way, but certainly bring a lot of humor to the table. Everybody would, you know, I feel like most people don't have an understanding of who I am because you're not in like the trenches with us. You're not in the locker room with us. So I just try to bring a lot of levity to the situation. He's the guy we give shit to the most.
Starting point is 00:21:27 Give shit to the most? For sure, Duncan. We're gonna talk to Duncan a little bit, you want him? You want to say something to Duncan through us? Duncan is a... He almost went back to the game. He almost went down to the police, you don't want to go? No, Duncan is my boy, but you guys need to ask him about shooting at MSG.
Starting point is 00:21:46 Shooting at MSG, okay. Do remember that? Shoot at MSG. Do remember this, be like, how great of a place is MSG to shoot? Like MSG is the spot. Forget it's being the mecca of basketball. It's right in the middle of the city.
Starting point is 00:22:00 It's this unbelievable place in Midtown. It has all those rich history, but shooting there, especially isn't that great hit him with that He's gonna be shook right he's gonna be shook, but he's also gonna be like Kevin that mother What who's the funniest guy you say that on this of course do you can say whatever say more who's the funniest guy you've been with in a locker room funniest guy ever yeah, you play on a lot of teams a lot of funny guys Who's the funniest I'll I'll give you one that people would not expect who is so funny and help bring me along in the league and I mean Was it absolute monster before he tore his ACL? I saw him put 40 and 20 on yow prime yow was Al Jefferson
Starting point is 00:22:36 Wow big ow yeah, print to see the boys all time voice all time voice and having him as a veteran listen was all-time voice and having him as a veteran. Listen, it was greatness. Anybody that has known Al played with Al been around Al long enough, I don't think he gets enough credit. I mean, before he got hurt, he was an absolute bucket getter. Thank you. Good segue here.
Starting point is 00:22:57 Top five bucket getters for you in the NBA. Ever? Oh man. Just don't just think points for game. They might have been a good guy. Kevin knows. Kevin's a real hoot. Yeah,er I'm explain it to him. Yeah, why are you explaining to him? Yeah, like listen, you could go with like you know I played against Monta Ellis. Oh fuck it. What about Stephen Jackson?
Starting point is 00:23:13 Bucket. People don't know Jack. Yeah, I was still in the league, but I caught him at pretty much the tail end was AI. I mean AI got to throw AI in there. It's a no-bord. I can't, you know, I'd be remiss if I didn't say Kobe, just because he was like a planet. He just brought people into his orbit. And he could be, I've literally have never seen somebody go four on one or five on one, or one on five or one on four, excuse me, Kobe.
Starting point is 00:23:39 And then, okay, let's go into like a really, get in your bag here. Get in your bag here. A really, really deep bag here. Who just like, well, I'll say it at the end, because he'll, he'll, what's I say the name?
Starting point is 00:23:51 The controversial call. I mean, like I love guys like Lou Williams and Jamal Crawford. Yeah. And there's not buckets. Just bucket getters and then like six man, you come off the bench, you can give me 20. Like I look at Jordan Clarkson and as well, modern modern day but those guys certainly gave me Michael Beasley
Starting point is 00:24:09 of peace yeah for a play with bees but you know I would put for a big man that only went to the left block and had two moves out Jefferson will give you buckets all day win healthy he was like that one big guy that transitioned, started shooting from a Ranger. You were like, oh wait a second, like hold up. Did you kind of model your game after big hour? Like, how did you, because you're yourself for like a different player?
Starting point is 00:24:33 Well, we did like the same block. But I had to start changing my game. And I'm thankful for guys like Dirk, because he had me shooting threes. My dad would be like, and my dad, he played in the late 60s, early 70s, and he was shooting, he was ahead of his time. Run the floor and shoot, shoot, shoot. If that had a three-point line then, he would have been a killer. But, Dirk, he moved the game forward
Starting point is 00:24:55 to when it become pace and space that big man had to start shooting threes. So I started extending my game, extending my game, and then when I got to Cleveland, we were just like, let's space the floor for those two guys being LeBron and Kyrie, let them go to work and we need shooters all around them. So where it became, let's throw it in the post and the games were 95 to 87. Now, if you don't score 105, you're losing more than half your games.
Starting point is 00:25:17 Explain what your perception of Spowe was before you always hear a heat culture. I'm sure you thought well of him, but when you get half a season with them, like what did you learn about Spowe? And give us like a little taste of what makes him the coach that everyone says he is. This is intensity, man.
Starting point is 00:25:31 This is intensity and approach to the game. I think you hear that, that's not something that is new, but doing a day after day after day, you really do feel like you look over to the sideline and you have an advantage. Yeah. You know, some guys are looking over there. sideline and you have an advantage. Yeah. You know, some guys are looking over there. It's a new coach or it's a guy they don't fully trust, but you know, you get in that
Starting point is 00:25:53 with him. It's just a completely different feel and that's conditioning. Are you ready to do this conditioning? Yeah, that's what you're ready to do. I was already. I thought that was not through training camp. Not through training camp. I got here a couple of weeks back and you know guys were doing
Starting point is 00:26:07 Condition test. We were running tens. We were doing sprints. We were doing all sorts of, you know, crazy conditions. So guys are in shape and I certainly had to be ready for that. Even is this Dwayne shooting it. I want to see that ball go in. This is literally right. It's a real foggy. By the way, do we know that that winning. We don't. We don't. Dwayne way home one here they're looking at it on this is our main show just do it just do interview right like like you know that we you know that you know that you know that we could set that same thing up I could just hit a shot that looks great and we can have that reaction and people people would think yeah the ball go in that is such a great it's a great question
Starting point is 00:26:42 right and then they walk up to the whole like okay guys now We're gonna put the ball in the hole and cut listen Dwayne Absolutely the but the fact that he was like I waited for this for for you know for a Little bit and he is such an athlete and I do not put in past put it past and make that I believe that he made it But at the same time, but I didn't see it going. It's like, remember, remember, remember when we watched, I don't know if you guys watched it, but I certainly watched, you know, I, I drank the cool A and watched Game of Thrones. I was like, we didn't see the person die. So he might come back, she might come back on the show. So I, I didn't see a ball go in. I'm not being a hater. Actually actually I sort of being a hater because I've never hit a hall one but especially on that hole too. Like I have played that whole twice in my life.
Starting point is 00:27:33 For the people that don't know that didn't see it what hole is that what course is that? That's Pebble Beach. Pebble Beach. I don't know what it is. It hole like, is it on the front nine? It's the one that's the one that's the one that's the one that's the one that's the 30 yard hole but you hit like 170. It's a wind. Yeah, it pushes it back, right? Either that or it's pushing it towards it. You have to club up, club down.
Starting point is 00:27:50 You're never hitting your actual right. It's so hard. Yeah, no, it's like a, I don't even know the drop, but it's, it's very tough. Very tough. That's the golf game. Not great. Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:00 Better now that you're Miami, you could play your role. So, yes, I mean, I have, I have my, my clubs, maybe Kyle or Duncan will take me out after he probably won after You figure out that you guys you guys better must be but yeah, I missed you. What a great place to shoot last question here Tyler here obviously was in the news a lot this off season a lot of rumors How do you as a leader talking about your leadership? How do you talk to a guy like that keep him in the right head space? It seems like he's a softball. I was way Yeah, you know, I think for me, I have a unique perspective in that.
Starting point is 00:28:28 When I was in Cleveland, you guys probably remember this. Even if you didn't really pay attention to us, I was always in trade conversations, trade rumors when I played great, when I didn't play well, when I was hurt. My first year, I even told him last year, I'd went to go watch and work out when he was in Denver a couple times. I saw that he was in good headspace. Potentially he could have been ready. I didn't really understand where he was at.
Starting point is 00:28:50 Condition wise, he was great. But I told him, I was in a similar situation that he was in because I got hurt game four of the quarterfinals against Boston our first year when we made the finals. Kyrie, same thing, got hurt game one of the NBA finals and over time. So like I could really empathize with him
Starting point is 00:29:08 and I felt like I could get through to him because of that, but Tyler's my guy. I know he brought that huge chip on his shoulder into the offseason, worked extremely hard and listen, he's talking about a bucket getter. Like he's a guy that's gonna go out there and do great. I know he's gonna have a big year. Last question, what do you think of Jimmy's look? Like he's a guy that's gonna go out there and and do great. I know he's gonna have a big year last last question
Starting point is 00:29:25 What do you think of Jimmy's? Do I want to like who was it like death cap for cutie or like? Who's last house of rich in the famous who is that? It was like good Charlotte. That's who it reminds me of I'm trying to think yeah Great Paul. Yeah, thanks guys. Thanks. Good good done libbertard. We are crazed right now What you you are fed in prison. What do you guys? I'm not just alive. I'm not saying He's keeping this act over there
Starting point is 00:29:55 Jets has been right thing entire time about the Miami Heat and a mean here is getting buried by heat nation He's been telling you he's been keeping your praising screws he was all for nice Hey, what is that? What are we doing? When screws go to the cup he's looking to lay it up He's not looking to turn it over like Duncan Robinson is Duncan Robinson is a cow Listen, listen, it's a cow word Stugats, Chris, a cow word And bam can be bam in DC I am dumb with him
Starting point is 00:30:22 And Kyle Lowry's one of the worst postseason players in the entry of the NBA This is the Dan Lebathar show with this two-gats All right, we're here a heat media day with Jaime Hakez Jr UCLA first round pick for the Miami Heat. How you like Miami first and foremost? I mean, I love it, man. I love it. What's there not to love? It's beautiful.
Starting point is 00:30:50 A little hot. Nah. I mean, you know, you'd rather be hot or you'd rather be like freezing cold. That's true, exactly. Exactly. We were talking to Kevin Love before and he said that he's just going to give you nonstop boring old man UCLA stories.
Starting point is 00:31:04 So we just wanted to prepare you for that and give you a little heads up that that's going to be coming your way. So we had to deflect those things. He's probably old enough to play for John Wooden's. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. What can he fans expect from you this year for fans that haven't watched you a lot of UCLA because it's hard to stay up for West Coast games over here.
Starting point is 00:31:23 But you know, I've watched your game a lot obviously. But for the fans that haven't like because there's been some stay up for West Coast games over here. I'm not gonna lie. But, you know, I've watched your game a lot, obviously. But for the Heat fans that haven't, like, because there's been some debate amongst Heat fans whether you're gonna play small forward, power forward, like, where do you see yourself fitting in on this team? Well, from my experience at UCL, I played a lot of different positions. I played from point guard to the big man to the five.
Starting point is 00:31:38 So I think I have a lot of flexibility. A lot of... Can we see? Oh, if you want, hey. I don't know. Oh, that's crazy. That's a lot. It's our first day work. Can we see? Oh, if you won't, I don't know. Well, that's crazy. No, that's a lot. It's our first day. We'll do it next time, next time.
Starting point is 00:31:50 You've played a Miami pro league. You've been obviously the NCAA. Now you get into the NBA. Who's the hooper that you've lined up against for being like, damn, he's legit? I mean, there's a lot, man. Once you get to the league, you realize, oh, wow, everyone's nasty.
Starting point is 00:32:03 Everyone's nasty. I mean, college, everyone can hit a shot. But when you get to the NBA, everyone can get a bucket. And I think that's like the biggest difference. Could you ever date someone as famous as Taylor Swift? Man, I don't know, if I loved him enough, yeah, I could. Good for the brand though, right? Yeah, good for the brand. Kelsey's added like a million followers on social.
Starting point is 00:32:24 I love him. God bless him. God bless him. It seems like a lot though. I was watching football the other night and it's just like, all right, we did it to us with yeah, Kelsey's added like a million followers on social. I love him good god bless him Yeah, it seems like a lot though. I was watching football the other night and it's just like all right We're gonna show her after he didn't even do anything. It's just it seems like a lot. Yeah, no I mean, she's telling us with one of the biggest you a swifty am I a swifty? It's okay to say space space space, you know, I'm not saying I don't like to this with I'm just not a swifty I think she's got some good songs What's the music you're playing in the locker room? I'm playing a lot. I've been putting the guys on team in Paula That was what okay, I know you guys know team in my room. Yeah, I just perked up over here. Yeah
Starting point is 00:32:59 Yeah, yeah, he's super white He's super white. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Have you got noticed outside where you've been like, oh yeah, hold up. Let me.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Oh, can I take a picture with you like? Yeah. Yeah. A couple times? I would say more than a couple. I would say, you know, usually once at least if I go outside like to the store, at least like one person will come up to me. Really?
Starting point is 00:33:23 Yeah. This guy gets noticed all the time. You'd be surprised how much good this guy gets to me. I couldn't be, I don't know why you just put that on me. We're talking about him right now. Like every, maybe at sporting events, but not as much as you, why are we talking about me right now, back to this guy. What do you guys know about this guy?
Starting point is 00:33:35 This guy is so mean. I just want to. I've ever, I've ever addressed up as a pirate for Halloween. I feel like you could, I feel like you could crush it. I have, I think I've, and I, you've ever seen Zoro. Oh, you can do Zorro too. Kill Zorro. I'm a Zorro, Indiana Jones. I don't know what I'm gonna be this year. Actually, I do know. I'm not gonna tell you. I got a Halloween party at my house if you want to come. I'm gonna be awkward. I'm gonna be awkward, man. I'm gonna be awkward, man. God, it's an everything. All right, dude. Thanks for joining us. Yeah, thanks for
Starting point is 00:34:02 having me. That was awkward. This the ending, thanks for having me I was offered This the ending I was like I was like you were gonna hit the we got a rap we got the rap when you check when you check your phone I was like oh he's got something home. I'm a layoff from my boys. My guys panicking here. Sorry Chris you feel good about that one not my best moment. It's so awkward. I'm not going on I'm not gonna make it you give the playoff playoff what happened and say I'm here was confused It was distracting me on a zoom that I'm holding it still there I'm not going to make it. The play-off play of what happened. From here, point of view, was confusing. It was distracting me on a zoom that I'm rolling. He's still there. I was trying to roll on that. Whatever. He's not important.
Starting point is 00:34:32 It is. It is a terrible ending to that interview. Still a fun interview, though. And he could crush as a pirate. I think he has Zoro. But from my vantage point, and Jeremy was standing behind me. So obviously, Hyme is in next to us We're in the middle and we're about to land the puppy for you know, yeah for the last final question Good interview got him to open up about a couple things and then I see my teammate right here
Starting point is 00:34:55 Look at my phone. Yeah, I know he's got questions. He looks at his computer Which I see he has other questions and I'm like oh all right Chris got the ball I'm gonna lay out my boys gonna ask the final question. We're gonna go home and I said thanks for joining us Well, how did I say it Jeremy? Yeah, what I got I'm like, oh, all right, Chris got the ball. I'm gonna lay out my boys gonna ask the final question. We're gonna go home. And I said, thanks for joining us. Well, how did I say it, Jeremy? Yeah, what? God, I'm trying to remember exactly how we had a war. Thanks for joining us. I said like an open-ended, thanks for joining us.
Starting point is 00:35:14 As if I was gonna ask a question, and then I just sat there and then I threw my hand out. The best part is the hand at the end. The hand at the end. I feel like, all right, yeah, get out here. Thanks for joining us. Thanks, Jason. No, seriously, thanks.
Starting point is 00:35:24 No, here's a hand. You know seriously, thanks. We throw here. Thanks for joining us. Yeah. Thanks, Jason. No, seriously, thanks. No, here's a hand. You know seriously, thanks. We throw this dead fish in your life. I can't be any worse with Duncan Robinson or can I? Let's find out. Ooh. One of the best places to shoot on earth. Your thoughts? Are you guys messing with me? Yeah, okay. We talked to Kevin Longer.
Starting point is 00:35:50 You talked to Kevin Longer. You talked to Kevin Longer. Because I almost hit you with the media like, oh, there's nothing like the garden. I saw you like, you started to crack a little bit of the face. I was like, oh, he's definitely out of the zone. I will say this about the garden. I'm gonna give it a fair review. Unbelievable place to play. Oh.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Nothing like it. The rims are 1,000% tighter than the rest of the NBA. Really? The NBA is saying that it's a universal rim. Yeah. They're lying. You don't have to say it. I'll say it.
Starting point is 00:36:22 They're lying. Did insulting when people and fans and Twitter are like surprised that you can dribble and drive to the hoop Because my timeline goes crazy anytime you make a move to the hoop and he's like guys He's a basketball player. He can do that. Yeah, I appreciate you. I mean, I do appreciate Because you have that part in your game, but people every time are like did you see done? It's like yeah, you can do that Well, the same thing too is like now. This is this is six media day for me So I feel like I'm becoming a better player.
Starting point is 00:36:47 That's why I want to call you the UD. It's almost like every media day, someone at some point will reference like, we saw you like do all these different things with your game and it's like, okay, well, if you're saying that every single year, maybe at some point that's just like kind of what I'm capable of now.
Starting point is 00:37:01 We know a lot of your need to be surprised at that. Not saying that I'm like, you know, I some people take people off the dribble, but I've seen it. I'm capable of now. We know a lot of you need to be surprised at that. Not saying that I'm like, you know, I someone people take people off the dribble, but I've seen it. I'm capable of like cutting back to work and dribbling one to two times at the basket. I'm actually capable of a little bit more. That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:37:13 I just want you to know, I'm not surprised when you do it. I appreciate it. That means a lot. That's breaking news from you, brother. Thank you very much. Thank you. Who's the guy that you faced where you're like, oh wow, this guy is on another level.
Starting point is 00:37:24 Like we're NBA players, we're great players. This guy is like up here. I think there's a handful. I think we got a couple in our locker. So dogs, yeah, just like Jimmy's performance last year in the playoffs. Who's the guy you wouldn't expect though? Like because everyone would say like LeBron, like not top 10 guy, but it's just a guy that's like, damn that guy. Top five dogs.
Starting point is 00:37:44 Wouldn't expect. I mean, I think everyone would expect underrated dogs, but like yeah his impact on the game is Obviously, we all saw it in the finals underrated dogs. I'll say this. I'm gonna give a shout out to a former teammate of mine in college Jordan pool is Bucket insanely skilled. I mean his ability With the ball in his hands is there are not many people like him on the planet. Who's the moderator of the team group chat? The moderator is Scott Gerkka, who you probably don't even know.
Starting point is 00:38:13 He runs the group chat. Yeah, yeah. He runs the group chat. Mac Jones is trash, right? Say it. He's struggling. I mean, the pictures are struggling. I will say that.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Is it tough to spend time on the bench and then be known as a shooter? You got to come out hot, even though you haven't touched the ball in an hour. And you're like, I don't know how I'm going to get hot here, but I got to. Yeah, you know, it's definitely a challenge. I think that's like a skill that I've gotten better with throughout my career. You know, I understand that I've played a lot of different roles since I've been in the NBA. And you know, sometimes it's not always going to be on your terms. You're going to have to come in after sitting for a quarter and a half and coming in
Starting point is 00:38:48 make one. So you know, it's just something you get better at, you know, as you as a good older. Nothing better than seeing the ball go through that net that first time. You know, hold up. I'm talking about it. Hold up. When you make the first one, you haven't shown them the shot yet. I want to see the shot.
Starting point is 00:39:00 I'm going to pull it up. It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's your base set. I already prepped. Dude, you just got done telling me how tired you were at the finish. I know the game is around. I was exhausted. I was here, man.
Starting point is 00:39:27 You don't have to do this right there. I don't really have a lot of notes for you. What happened on the fifth? It was when I missed it. Because I was exhausted. We cut that out. It was in that. It was all about good editing.
Starting point is 00:39:37 Exactly. What's more difficult podcasting or hoops? Oh, good question. But I will say the most difficult above'm not sure if you're going to get in the lead. I'm not sure if you're going to get in the lead. I'm not sure if you're going to
Starting point is 00:39:54 get in the lead. I'm not sure if you're going to get in the lead. I'm not sure if you're going to get in the lead. I'm not sure if you're going to get in the lead. I'm not somebody that you're not too close with but you want to get them on the pod. You don't want to come out right away with it. Come on my pod. You got to hit them with just some sort of Hey, how's it going? What's up, bro? I think before well here's he's starting playing the foundation like Days in advance. Here's the thing. Yes, I learned to get to that point. But if you just go like, hey,
Starting point is 00:40:17 what's going on man? Like how's the family blah blah? That's all fluff and they know. So if you're gonna just do that, you might as well just come out with it You've guessed you want yeah, I would love to get stuff from basketball standpoint I'll put it in a call. He's got the underdog story as well. I mean he he touched just ties right into it Sure so stuff would be great This has been a blast and I would love to come to the studio and do it But I've been here for like two and a half hours. Oh, yeah, I'm ready Yeah, this has been at least the most this has been a different interview than the other ones thousand percent And that's why if you wanna run it another time,
Starting point is 00:40:46 I'm happy to do it. We'll run it back another two and a half hours. Maybe we'll do a part where we just go through our phones. We'll text you and you know, plant the seeds and stuff. So hey join us, dude. Absolutely, I absolutely appreciate you guys. What a fun day we had out here.
Starting point is 00:40:58 Jeremy is literally frozen. He's frozen now. We should have worked a bit out earlier where you were like frozen. Well, we could have still really cold really fun day at heat day Thanks to the Miami Heat for hoking us up like they always do as always We're out here. Tony really wanted to shoot a basketball in the soup behind us I was so close to there's a ball back there that they're taking pictures with and I graduated like three times like
Starting point is 00:41:18 But this has got me legitimately fired up for the season. Yeah, I'm gonna be that guy that just buys into the heat culture. As you should, we have enough. There's enough in this building here. I'm gonna steal Jeremy's lane. We have enough. What have I been trying to say? What have I been trying to say? You think we got enough?
Starting point is 00:41:34 Tell me, say we don't. You gotta take it. So we don't got enough. So we have enough. We have enough. Yeah.
