Starting point is 00:00:43 Welcome to the big sui! Presented by DraftKings. Why are you listening to this show? The podcast that seems very similar to the other Dan Levitard podcast. I'm sorry, I'm not going to apologize for that. In fact, the only difference seems to be this imaging. I have been tempted in restaurants just walking past tables to grab somebody's fries that if they're just there.
Starting point is 00:01:04 That hasn't happened to you guys. I've done it. And now, here's the marching man to nowhere, that face and the habitual liar. That's 60 minutes clock, my entire life, heartburn. Every time I hear it, I get Sunday's garries and heartburn. Well, let's talk about this.
Starting point is 00:01:20 OK, let's talk about this. Do you get, when the 60 minutes ticking starts, is it a time bomb on your life that gives you the scary Sundays? Well, to be honest, like, I really only hear it after golf now because during NFL Sundays, I'm watching Red Zone, so I miss the clock, but that clock that... The five ticks before they start speaking.
Starting point is 00:01:40 Jessica, I am with you. Jessica, I think you're right, and I think this is something I did not notice since childhood. I think what has happened is that clock is your weekends over and your last seven hours of sloth where you've been a gross person, just watching football all day, seven hours sitting in your own stink. And now here comes the prime time game. And really, if we're being honest, I've been doing it all weekend.
Starting point is 00:02:05 You've been on the couch since the Colorado game Saturday night. Andrew Gross, you're a gross human being. Your weekend's over. You have heartburn. And now here's the saddest thing you've ever heard. F-O-H clock, you know what I mean? So what I'm saying, legacy show, Dan, I have my top five legacy shows if you wanted.
Starting point is 00:02:22 There's still a league of this because they're legacy show. But is this a compliment or is it an insult? What do you mean? To be a legacy show, because I I have my top five legacy shows if you wanted, there's still a league this because of legacy, but is this a compliment or is it an insult? What do you mean? To be a legacy show? Cause I don't think you like, I still love 60 minutes. You do not. I don't want to. No, Dan, love that show. Journalism. I'm hard broke in the HBO real sports is leaving after 29 years. There's still in the air. There are still some outfits out here. And CBS Sunday morning is one of them. them. Doing good work that I appreciate. I understand it's all TikToks, Billy.
Starting point is 00:02:47 But I, 60 minutes to me, was like, now I get to be a little smart after my slaw. Now I get to learn something. I could be smarter. They're going to do difficult interviews with presidents. They're not going to be easy interviews. So these are shows in my list. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:03:01 These are coming around. These are legacy shows that have like a big brand on them and they still exist because no one has the hoots but to say, you know what, hit the road jack. That's not a compliment. That's not a shape up or ship out. Is that before or after you hit the road jack? We're not there yet.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Is hit the road jack? That's after shape up or ship out. Better hope we don't get there, buddy. So you say to your kids, where's that on the list? That's the list. You don't want to see what happening next. That's the one. That might be on the list? You don't want to see what happening next. That's the one. That's that might be the next one. You don't want to see what's next. Trust me. Trust me. That's a different one. That's a different one. All right. Oh, I Spanish. Guía, I eat. Don't fake threat. No, that wasn't a show. That was just
Starting point is 00:03:43 threatening. That was a show. Billy, you're checking it out, That was just a thread. Billy, you got a thread in the fridge. That was a show. Billy, you were just checking it out, making sure it's working. Billy, after this top five legacy shows, I do need from you, the hierarchy of fake threats. In Spanish? No, no, because I think we did it. We did it though. He's higher than...
Starting point is 00:04:00 Let me tell you something. You don't want me to get to that list, okay? I'm just going to say that right now. You don't want me to get to that list. Number five, no, O-L-I. What are we doing first? We are doing top five legacy shows, okay? O-L-I.
Starting point is 00:04:11 O-L-I. Sports center. No one has the hootspa, huh? That one hurts me. Didn't even make the top five, though. It hurts me because I can just see the scores whatever I want. I don't need to go to sports center. I couldn't disagree more. I was watching SVP last night, and I was just see the scores, whatever I want. I don't need to go to sports center. It's I couldn't disagree more.
Starting point is 00:04:25 I was watching SVP last night. And I was just like, I was like, this is back, man. He's so good at this. Like I love watching getting all the recaps. I totally disagree. I love sports. Well, he's great at it. SVP specific.
Starting point is 00:04:35 He's great at it. But SVP, listen, we know you're an Orioles fan. Don't kick off the midnight sports center with the Orioles highlight. We didn't need that last. That's the best thing you saw. It doesn't matter. No way. It was out of his midnight sports center with the Orioles highlight. We didn't need that last time. That's the best thing you saw. That's the best thing you saw.
Starting point is 00:04:46 It doesn't matter. Right. When it was ahead of his way, did not go football. Very nice. I'm going to hit him. No one cares about the Orioles. Wait a minute. It's his show.
Starting point is 00:04:54 I get it. But come on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. It's his show. Yeah. He's a star where they're going to pay six or seven people the giant dollars.
Starting point is 00:05:04 And he's lifting sports center on his shoulders because it is something you have to you No, once they cancel it no one has the huts, but listen I like the marlins. They had a great series this weekend We didn't start with the marlins today because that's not people The Orioles wasn't the best thing. He saw the Orioles are such a great story And it's his team and he's gonna do his show. I love that. Yeah, well, number five, 60 minutes. I'm unbelievable. I think I'm with Jessica on that though.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Put it on the pole, Gigi, at Lebitard show. Does that give you heartburn and acid? I have it right now from just doing it. I need a thumbs. Toms me. Number four, the tonight show. Oh Get out of here not very good late night is dead Have you guys seen that the all the late night hosts are doing a podcast now and it's it's not it
Starting point is 00:05:55 They're trying to do the smart list thing like let's get a bunch of big celebrities and it's just it I've seen some clips and it's just it's it's oh you mean're forcing it either writers yes it's just like oh man Jimmy Fallon just shooting the breeze is not the same Jimmy Fallon are we striking are we not can we are we are we striking are we not what people are just making appearances here appearances there I'm not gonna promote this I'm still gonna come here strike or don't okay enough number three they're trying to make some money for their staff they have have money. Okay. Number three, just give me some money. I mean, sell a house. Sell a house, yeah they should.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Don't burden us with free content, okay? Or do it better. Number three, the VMAs. It's one of the top ten podcasts in America because it's those five guys together. That's that trick that everything's in the top ten at the beginning first week. I'm still got a couple of years.
Starting point is 00:06:41 Yeah, exactly. If I wanted five guys, I could go to five guys. Okay. Mm-hmm. Number two. Good morning America. Bag of fries. Put it on the pole, Jude. Do you love five guys? Peanuts. Pause. Good morning America is still a thing. Is it not? GMA. It still exists. Yeah. No, no, no. It's a thing. It's a ratings thing because I I do I have this wrong. I was up the opinion that while just about everyone listening to this young people they would tell you, yeah, we're off the grid now. We don't watch television the way you used to watch television.
Starting point is 00:07:16 We don't watch late night television. We watch when we want to watch. It's all changed, but I still think there are a great number of people who still watch network television. The transition has not just happened. The majority of people are still watching television the old way. Many of them have cable, yes, but I don't think streaming has taken over half of America yet. Well, like these shows still have huge audiences and get millions of viewers, but it's declining and it's less like culturally relevant than it was 10 years
Starting point is 00:07:45 ago when it was your only kind of live source of information in the morning. Now I don't need to watch it to see what's out. You're telling me that good morning America is not still a thing with people leaving their homes in the morning all over our country. I don't know what that means. Yes, it is, but if it went away, no one would miss it. I mean, no one leaving home anymore. Straight hand would, I guess.
Starting point is 00:08:07 This is what I'm saying to you. I did not think all of these other shows you have mentioned. I can see how time has passed them by. I believe that most people listening to this are living differently than we are here. And I think that God, I think Good Morning America is it, are the ratings in the tank? It's still the biggest morning show there is, is it not?
Starting point is 00:08:28 I, quick after a quick Google, it looks like they still have like average three million viewers in episode, but yeah, it's not, it's not as culturally relevant as it was 15. You're giving far too much weight to my list, Dan, I will say. I appreciate it, but number one, Saturday Night Live.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Buzzer. Buzzer. I dare someone to cancel that show. Right. Cancel it. No one will. No one will. No one will even know.
Starting point is 00:08:54 Tap the time it's rerunced. No one knows when it's new when it's old. It could go. I am curious how bad Chris, because I have not heard it. I saw that the idea that Fallen and Kimmel, that all the late night guys, of course, they're now old guys that come from a different time and comedy.
Starting point is 00:09:11 This is not, like, this thing used to be the most vibrant thing on television, late nights, but streaming is gobbled it up, and now those five guys are just trying to go viral. They're trying to get you to watch it in the morning, and the five of them are trying to do something here that takes timing and chemistry Just putting five people together no matter how funny they are doesn't just work like the smart list podcast They've been friends all their lives those guys and so you need chemistry, but that podcast by virtue of the star power on it
Starting point is 00:09:40 opened huge now the content has to carry it. The Kelsey brothers are carrying that content. People want to hear from them on two very good football teams that podcast is exploding. But you can't just put five famous people together. Every podcast is doing that now. Just like everyone in sports has noticed mac a fee. Everyone in entertainment has noticed the smart list guys have a giant podcast property on their hands. What do they do? They interview their friends who are huge celebrities and they all have fun together and we get to see a different side of them. It's a monster business that they've got on the side. They kind of threw a bone to Seth Meyers. I was like, what's he doing here? Right. I mean, is it the late late night? They fell past.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Right. Yeah. Someone asked in that meeting, should we include Seth or? Because he wasn't in the original meeting, you're right. No one knows her. He's in his favorite. That's why they put him on there. Ginzie loves Seth Meier. They're all over 40, yes? Are they all over 45?
Starting point is 00:10:32 50? How old are they? They're all over 45. The reason I asked the question is because young people make everything popular. If you want to know where late night goes to die, it's right there. That we always do the same things, hire the same people and a generation comes behind them and it's like that's not how I want to do television. I don't care that. Hey grandpa libato I don't care the 60 minutes matter to you. 60 minutes to me still is out here doing great
Starting point is 00:10:57 work as news resources are being cut all over. Yeah and that noise does the same thing to me. My weekend's over is what it signals. My weekend's down. Ballon is 48. He's the youngest. Colbert is 60. And they need their writers. They all need their writers. You will see Jimmy Kip Kimmel's 55. He looks good. Double Neckle. Drew Barrymore pulled back. She is not. She is very sad about breaking solidarity, but I don't think Bill Maher is changing what he's doing Stugots, and he needs his writers. I would argue Stugots, even though Bill Maher is an extraordinary
Starting point is 00:11:29 comedian. It's been great for 40 years. I'd argue that Bill Maher, when he says that he's not doing new rules or any of that stuff, it's because those things take 20 writers to do every week, 20 when the expectation is you got to hit every joke, not even build Mars that good. And he can't, he also can't be writing as well as to God's because it would be breaking the strike for him to do too much writing. So he's just going to do a show where he interviews some people and they talk about politics on the stage and it's not going to be very good, but I'm sure that that hour will be something that breaks solidarity even as he's trying to file it under
Starting point is 00:12:05 I'm trying to help my lowest compensated. I'm still reeling. I'm still shocked that sports center was on Dolly's list What was a OLI? Yeah, but I mean no one has the hoots but a cancel hits What are we doing with them? Orioles, please. It's a great story. It's his show At public mobile we do things differently. From our subscription phone plans to throwing a big sale right now when no one else is. Well, maybe they are, but who cares, our sale is better. And it's on right now, no waiting necessary.
Starting point is 00:12:38 You have the latest phone. Now take advantage of a great price on a 5G subscription phone plan. It's the perfect deal for anyone who could use some savings right now. Subscribe today at publicmobile.ca. Different is calling. Wow, I think Billy typed an eight instead of a B five's a clear State why $2.00 Number eight He got three
Starting point is 00:13:09 His Chris corner on the line CC This is the down lebertar show with a stugat Stugat is a noted information allergic person Stugots is a noted information, a lyrgic person. He does not want more data. He wants to trust his gut. He does not want more facts, more analysis. Don't tell me whether the right guard in football played well or not.
Starting point is 00:13:37 I do not care. I just want to talk about whether my quarterback has it or not. The it factor. But Lucy, who just got here, and like I said, she had a banner weekend, she crushed it at the swamp. But Lucy has disappointed me profoundly. It's the first disappointment, well, second, I would say. The first is how badly she wants Lee Korsot
Starting point is 00:13:58 to get the hell off her television. Right. That's the first disappointment. She's being mean to the aged aged and I think it's cruel. The second disappointment is that she's gotten to our ecosystem. It's light on analytics, but some people around here do care. Jessica's not just watching college football.
Starting point is 00:14:19 She's reading and listening to people who really know what they're talking about to get more informed on X, Y, and Z. Like me and billy not like you and billy god bless football is a different terrain where they do not do that pardon uh... they don't uh... christmas handle some of that he's very good but loosey is disappointed because she says and i have not heard this around here except if you're information allergic like like Greg Cody and Stugat. I don't trust pro football focus. It's not that I don't trust it.
Starting point is 00:14:50 It's just that like I follow their college one pretty closely because I do think their analytics are really good, but I don't necessarily think their analytics are always very accurate. Like a couple years back, they ranked Iowa as like the best offensive line in the country and our offensive line was crap Because Tyler Lindnerbaum was so highly rated that they would do like Mean instead of median and I was like that's just not accurate and so I don't really trust them
Starting point is 00:15:15 Do you think you know more about the Iowa offensive line than pro football focus? PFF yeah, yeah, I don't know how much I did it't let me tell you I don't know about how accurate they are I'm glad you do though all I know is I let's one of my favorite things about Sunday night football is the PFF rankings when they do the starting lineups I want to know that my right guard is somewhere in the mid-20s at a 112 Okay, if you're in the 60s then I got eight then it's time to ship up shape wasn't really shape up or ship out Yeah, all right if you have like you don't want to see what happens next. You can get good feel for like a linebacker core.
Starting point is 00:15:47 It's like, oh, they got a guy who's nine. This is what I'm telling you though. I trust them implicitly. If I'm willing to say, if you tell me that my linebacker is an 11 behind Bobby Wagner, okay, yes, I'm sure you're right about this. Oh, the single digits. He's nine out of 122. Wow, you say that you trust him implicitly.
Starting point is 00:16:08 I didn't know this until last week. Did you know Chris Collins worth owns pro football? Part of it, all of it. The majority of it. Why did you think it was based in Cincinnati? I was like, I just assumed whenever I see a stat, it's Chris. Who would base anything there?
Starting point is 00:16:20 It's Chris Collins worth telling me that. Did you know that there are only seven fullbacks? The dolphins have a top five yet a below average fullback. Really? The rare. Four out of seven. Wait a minute. Wait a minute.
Starting point is 00:16:34 The NFL only has seven fullbacks. Wait, that means she would be average. Right in the middle. Yeah, exactly. So he is average. Yeah. No, three and a half. You said there were seven, right?
Starting point is 00:16:43 Oh, below average. I'm back. Good math by all of one. One, two, three. This is like from said there were seven, right? Oh, blow average. I'm back. Good math by all of you guys. One, two, three. This is why I tried PF5. Six, seven, no four. You'll be right in the middle of the middle. Yeah, there's three above and three below.
Starting point is 00:16:53 Yeah, so if there's seven guys, and you're the fourth, four is the middle, it's Matt, Aaron, the middle. Yeah. Technically his belly button would be three and a half. Okay, just for the record to explain to the audience, you have just informed,
Starting point is 00:17:05 I'm assuming the entire audience, not just me, maybe the audience is real deft with this information that the fullback is so endangered at a position where they refuse to pay the real running backs, that there is an endangered position in the sport where three corners of the team do not have one. They do not bother with one. They're just seven remaining fullbacks roaming the earth. There's not an OLI. It's an endangered species. You told me that in gold is the exact average of the most average
Starting point is 00:17:38 of the most endangered. And you were pleased by this. We have an average fullback. I was disappointed and pleased. I trust him to run hard on third and four with one of those screen passes. But we have one. Yeah, well, we is.
Starting point is 00:17:50 No, you don't have one. I know. Well done. What does Collinsworth say? Do they have one, Chris? The Jets don't have a fullback. I don't think. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:58 You think it's just Collinsworth and not an army of soldiers who are breaking down film? Well, Jack's doing something. Jack's always around. You believe it's just Collins worth just making things up on television because he runs Sunday night football and it's one of the most polarizing announcers there is and also owns the information in the sport because he learned to invest in the value of this a long time ago.
Starting point is 00:18:18 The dolphins have two fullbacks, they have a backup fullback so they have two of the seven. That can't be true. Allikin gold. It's gotta be just him. Oh, look at them. They're all six here. Wow, Kyle Yut, was it Yusek? Yeah, he's good.
Starting point is 00:18:30 Yusek, yeah. He's bottom tier. Really? Who's this Andrew Beck guy? For the Texans? Lucy, are you blay, are you, you, you, you mistrust? You say you don't mistrust, you mistrust. You said that Iowa was ranked by pro football focus
Starting point is 00:18:45 to be great as an offensive line and that they were terrible. That sounds like mistrust to me. And now it's, you're saying that all of their rankings, which they're studying film, they're talking to scouts, they're doing reporting, they're doing their own film work. You're saying it's all flawed? You don't trust any of it in college?
Starting point is 00:19:01 No, it's not that it's all flawed. I do think their NFL coverage is so much better and more accurate than their college stuff because I'll see stuff and be like, oh, you didn't watch that game. I know you didn't watch that. When it comes to college, I kind of take it with a grain of salt just because once I saw that,
Starting point is 00:19:15 I was statistic. I'm like, I don't necessarily know if they're doing math the right way. You think they're faking it is what you're saying. They can't cover all the games. Lucy, they can't- Lucy, say it. Lucy, are you saying they're faking it? That they're saying they can't cover all the games lucy that can't say it lucy are you saying they're faking it that they didn't watch a game is what
Starting point is 00:19:28 it sounds like you just said they did not watch your accusing pro football focus of not watching i will football well good for them for not doing it there are a lot happier than i am right now either smart but are you making the accusation that they're making it up no i just like it's not that I'm gonna make it up. I think it's just for some circumstances
Starting point is 00:19:48 and some of their ratings and grades, they're not using that sort of way. It's house two gots with doing it. Lucy, it's house two gots with doing it. Of course. If he were Collinsworth, I don't need to watch the game. Just giving him right up, fake your way through it. No one's gonna notice except Lucy.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Sometimes numbers lie. Sometimes numbers aren't exactly the full truth. Why don't you do it the right way? You, Lucy, yeah, let's go. Okay, I would tell you that I was offensively not as bad. And if they're telling you anything else, it's not good. I love that.
Starting point is 00:20:16 I love that. Do you see the funny business I will pull this weekend? They tried to, they covered their spread. I had the other way. Right. Just for this stupid points thing, they need to get covered their spread. I had the I had the other way right just for this stupid points thing They they need to get the 25 points for their offense coordinator. They were up by what were they up by late in that game and they They were up by over 30 no that game finished 41 to 10 and the point spread was something like 25
Starting point is 00:20:38 Who were they playing one of those Western teams was at Western Michigan? Was it messed Western Carolina? They went for it on fourth down, fourth and two with the other team at no time out stuff. They could have just knelt it and they, they go for just, what is this 25? So it was a bad beat. You took Western whatever. Yes.
Starting point is 00:20:54 Western Michigan. God, what a sad thing that was. I was at Disney on ice watching it on my phone. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, way to be in the moment as a parent. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, I was like, why are they going for it? Why are they going for it?
Starting point is 00:21:06 So been there. How many times you've been to that thing? I mean, the same damn show every time. I know. I went to like seven times though. My kids loved it. Chris, were you watching at least the video on your phone? Yes.
Starting point is 00:21:18 I was watching it. And you were getting mad. Lucy, why are you laughing? Because of how much? That was her one loss. Lucy's weekend was so- She's been making me money. This girl right here, killing it.
Starting point is 00:21:27 Lucy's weekend was so much better than yours. It was awesome because I didn't have any signal in Gainesville, so I had no idea what was going on with Iowa, and I felt so free, so free. There's just no cell reception in Gainesville. There's no, it's like every college town, there was no cell reception at all. I got all these texts all at once when I got like one bar No, it's like games for you college town. There was no cell reception at all I got all these texts all at once when I got like one bar and it was like don't tune into the guy or one game
Starting point is 00:21:50 And I was like oh god. Did you think gamesville was gonna be nicer? No, no, I didn't think that games It was gonna be very nice. I liked it though. I had a good time I'm not anti-gain. It is obvious in all of the video that you are making, that you are loving the hell out of college football because you just get to wander around interviewing drunk people who don't mind being drunk on camera and give you a better look at distilled college football Saturday than what they give you on your television because what's happening in those parking lots
Starting point is 00:22:18 before those games means that Lucy is on the hunt to find who can be dumbest on camera in the most unintentionally funny way because you're just clearly drunk as a great television show. I don't actually think I'm even on the hunt to find them. I think they're trying to find me because I don't really go up to a ton of people. They just see the microphone and they're like, I need it. I need it.
Starting point is 00:22:39 I need to be on camera and it's perfect. Yes. Thank you for your college football coverage. I don't want to just skip past this one things to God's though, because me at Disney on ice with my phone, I got a few fist bumps from Dad's walking up the stairs. That game, though, the West American games where you're watching. It's said enough if you stay home to watch it.
Starting point is 00:22:58 You're real like, no, this is as said, okay. You sitting on a toilet just staring at $50 at a stack of $50 bills like you just staring at it's a seat do I get to keep it or do I flush it down the toilet Let's see based on Kirk Ferrance needs 41 because his son is under it. You bet against nepotism and you lost Kirk Ferrance going for that. He needs the points. His son's under duress. He wants to show everyone at the end of the season of 45, of 41. Look at what I did to Western Michigan. I made this freckled guy sat Disney bad parent watching an afternoon game plus 25 and a half because he's an asshole. He just wanted
Starting point is 00:23:47 action on Saturday so he didn't have to pay attention to his kid. If you had gone into the Disney bathroom and sat on the toilet and put $50 there and you just stared at it for an hour instead of parenting your child. What are you feeling badly about? Like I see some regret is that the actual bed, is it betting on Iowa, is it ignoring your kid? We're bad dad, I'm seeing the shame of just, you know, she's only gonna be this age once. You know, I've seen this show four times.
Starting point is 00:24:14 I was only gonna score 41 points once. One, right, right. So do you think that someone had bet on this and that's why they did it? Cause I have a direction to take this in, I don't wanna accuse anyone of anything. Sean McVeigh kicking a field goal to bring it within seven, when the spread is seven and a half.
Starting point is 00:24:30 But he, so many people have been suspended for betting in the NFL, what are you doing? Billy, somebody, the announcer shouted at the end of that game. That three point kick, for no reason at all with four seconds left when those four seconds were gonna drip off the clock with that kick. That kick that he did not need and nobody needed. The announcer actually said is gambling like tries to creep into your mainstream broadcast. Oh bad beat.
Starting point is 00:24:59 Made it a one score game. The guy shouted bad beat. Like that's the only reason anybody was watching that. But so many people are getting suspended for gambling on the games. What are you doing? Good luck. Good luck managing all of that. It's going to be difficult going forward. It's rarely that obvious. It was the final play. It is the final time. I expired on that play. Yes. I love it. No reason for it. It's to God. There's a reason for it. Me. You think they're trying to pay you? I mean, I'm with Billy. I mean, there's a reason he did it. We'll never know the reason. What you're so
Starting point is 00:25:37 what you're investigating God bless football. Where's to God simply accuses and Billy accused McVeigh. cheating. You have done that on the front end. I said I'm not accusing anyone of anything. That's just weird. Well, look at it. I just said it was a bad look. Bad optics. Don't do it.
Starting point is 00:25:51 No. You what? Lots of people are getting in trouble. Don't do it. That's your move. Your move. Your move. Your move.
Starting point is 00:25:56 He's a man of it. I'm not accusing anybody of anything, but here's the accusation. No. I didn't accuse. Yeah, you did. God bless football. Award winning. Re, you did. God bless football, award winning, reckless allegations.
Starting point is 00:26:07 So, money is a thing, but it's not everything. I think you really look at the importance of what are you doing with your time. Starting point is 00:27:08 Don Lebatard. Oh, I think Larry Fitzgerald's on the green right there. Stougatz. That's Alfonso Rivera. Oh, no. How do you think that Larry Fitzgerald has a son? The son. The son.
Starting point is 00:27:20 Oh, the son. To be fair, yeah. To be fair. Alfonso Rivera has a great ass. This is the Don Lebatard show with the Stougatz. To be fair, yeah. To be fair. Alfonso Rivera has a great ass. This is the Dan Levatar show with his two guts. After only two football weeks, two guts, we already have. And this is a blessing from the sky that has to do with the standings.
Starting point is 00:27:43 The Detroit Lions had one of the most disappointing losses yesterday because they've got super bowl expectations even though we have spent their entire existence laughing at them. They are the worst franchise in professional football and have been for a long time. Those fans have suffered more than any fans have suffered, even though the Bears can get in this conversation. So can the jets. No, but the suffering has been nowhere, the way that it has been with the lions. Man Campbell handled a loss.
Starting point is 00:28:13 Chris Cody is telling me exactly the way you want a man Campbell to handle a loss. Brandon Staley, on the other hand, is now oh and two with Justin Herbert as his quarterback and there is going to be Holy Hell coming his way shortly if it's not already there because you've got a quarterback that is absolutely good enough to be in the playoffs. We all know it. We know your skill guys are good. It's debatable. Okay. That's fine. Brandon Staley handled the loss exactly the way you don't want your coach handling the loss. But before we get to that, because I don't want Mondays to continue to obscure the way they have minor league football on Saturdays, because you have right at the intersection of amateur minor league professional football on Saturdays and professional football on Sundays. You have a guy in a program
Starting point is 00:29:07 who's trying to drag college football into bigger numbers. We sell sunglasses. Everything that you say about our team is a story. We are the center of the sport between at the intersection between Saturday and Sunday. And I wanna talk about what happens when prime time is 10 p.m. Saturday. Prime time on your football weekend is not Tennessee, Florida. And old fashioned, whatever, someone who sounds like Vern Lungquist,
Starting point is 00:29:38 if it's not Vern Lungquist anymore. I guess it was Herb Street. I think it was F her best read was in colorado right he did game game colorado so he does it that morning in colorado then he takes the private jet two games believe in the game of the night was just johnson and louis riddick on college football feeling i'm sorry mark jones and louis riddick on that is a fine
Starting point is 00:30:03 only two dollars yes that is a fine. Yeah, only $2. Yes, thank you. That's a fine. Yeah. You had the Penn State Illinois game and he hated it. Mm-hmm. Oh, did he? Was that a Gus Johnson impression?
Starting point is 00:30:13 It was, it was, I was trying to workshop it. Don't do that. Ha ha ha. Ever again. Yeah, don't do that. Don't, yeah, don't ever do that. Huh. I won't.
Starting point is 00:30:21 Ha ha ha. What prompted that? Just out of curiosity. That judgment. I would say that judge Mark Jones said it was like the BET awards Because there were so many rappers there It was offset Lil Wayne brought out Colorado I just can't believe that any of this is so three games in
Starting point is 00:30:40 Not just that he's three and oh or that his team has a dramatic comeback at At the end of the games to gots but that they're the must watch television in the sport. What was offset? There were offsetting penalties at one point because it was a dirty game. Really dirty. I believe a sander's son tried to three stooches poke someone in the eyes did he not no that did happen
Starting point is 00:31:09 so great it's so ridiculous that really what you have the phenomenon flocking toward is a three stooches i gouge and you will not talk about my mother that way she raised a good child i I'm Deon Sanders. Don't you dare wear sunglasses either. He sold so many stupid sunglasses, like he was just doing a commercial, and he's on every commercial.
Starting point is 00:31:36 He's on every commercial. It's not saving anymore. And the thing that I don't want to just skip ass from this weekend's to God's, both last night and on Saturday, Bella check and Sabin have been so dominant for so long. For them to look shitty in these games and not competitive and be close to 80,
Starting point is 00:31:58 it's not something that should happen quietly because we've been rooting against these people for about 15 years and for 15 years on most weekends is bleep off. Bella check plays in 20 wins 25% of the Super Bowl. Sabin is out there and it's only a story when he loses. I mean, Sabin was a couple of plays away going his way last year from being in the national championship.
Starting point is 00:32:22 But it collapsed fast on these two people. They've been caught up to in a way that is obvious. And the Patriots declares case at the bottom of a division that they have owned for a very long time, for two decades. But there's a difference between Bellachek and Sabin, right? Because Sabin can just rebuild next year with the way college football is. Like, he could maybe have gotten caught this year, but like, he can regroup very quickly,
Starting point is 00:32:45 wherein the NFL you can't do it as quickly. That's true, however. This is now, I mean, yes, Alabama was like a field goal away or, you know, a couple plays away last season from making the playoff and probably competing for national championship, although Georgia was very, very. Doing what TCU did. But it's almost like now we see there's this pattern with Alabama and the fact that
Starting point is 00:33:08 Sabin I he hasn't really hinted retirement, but there is retire there has been retirement speculation for a couple seasons that like he's not going to do it forever. So maybe this is it and the thing that is so crazy about Alabama this season is that they have three quarterbacks like you got reminded us in weekend observations two weeks ago, but they really don't have one. They've now played all three of their quarterbacks and in the USF game they started Tyler Buckner who is the quarterback they got in the portal and an attempt to have someone that would be ready to start this year. He had five completions on 14 attempts with 34 yards. There was a lightning rain delay in the game and And then they ended up putting Ty Simpson, who was
Starting point is 00:33:45 their third slash second string. No one really even knows how Sabin's ranking the quarterbacks. He's saying like, well, based on practice this week, Milro played the worst. So he's not starting anymore, even though he was one that started the Texas game that had, you know, some ups and downs
Starting point is 00:33:59 in that game. And then so they put in Ty Simpson. He only had five completions on nine attempts. So they have these three guys. None of them are great quarterbacks ready to start and ready to win games. And that's just so unprecedented that Alabama wouldn't have a quarterback. And it's a weird season because we're seeing Ohio State is like they've got a new quarterback. They're trying to replace CJ Stroud who was excellent. Even Georgia has a new quarterback. And Stetson Bennett was not like a Heisman candidate.
Starting point is 00:34:27 Like he was never gonna win the Heisman at Georgia, but he was a really good competent player. And Alabama just doesn't have that right now, and they're gonna lose games because of it. Jessica though, you say that it's unprecedented and in this century covering college football because I don't think it's unprecedented. What I think didn't have much of a precedent is that Urban Meyer and Nick Sabin, the both of
Starting point is 00:34:52 them dominated so thoroughly that they did during a time in a sport when this money game of getting the right players so well that Urban Meyer got so strong that he won the national championship with his third string quarterback, Carl, Carl Dill Jones. Yep. And Nick Saban won championships plural without a quarterback. Well, that players so much like Georgia does now that you could put a steps in Bennett and make him steps in Bennett. He did. AJ McCarrick. But they've had quarterbacks recently. But what has happened to me, you've, you've analyzed correctly what's happening with his team in the micro, but in the macro to both Ohio state and Alabama, what has happened is that advantage they had of you've got all the best players and it doesn't matter if your quarterbacks any good because you've got all
Starting point is 00:35:36 the best players. That's gone. It's simply gone now that the advantages that they had that made them dominant over the sport for a decade it's been a race and in the case of Deon Sanders although he's not in this class yet give him a year give him two years to get defensive and offensive lineman but he's rattled the cages of that sport and and made it so over the weekend you're like Colorado matters more than Alabama Alabama squeaking past South Florida Colorado matters more as television and Alabama squeaking past South Florida.
Starting point is 00:36:05 Colorado matters more as television. I just can't believe it happened like that. That fast to say, but as he was yelling last year, hey, NIL, I can get my guy a million dollars in quarterback, but he's selling Alabama and Texas and USC are like, bleep that, bleep that. We're not doing it your way anymore. Now that the money's in the game,
Starting point is 00:36:25 we'll get them to California and Texas and they won't have to go to Alabama. Yeah, I think it's a hundred percent a byproduct of NIL, where there's just opportunities elsewhere. And if you're not getting playing time where you're at, you can go to a smaller school and get money. We just saw one of the top recruits commit to Texas tech recently because they're opens up all these chances
Starting point is 00:36:44 for these smaller schools to get better players because there's more money and now that Sabin doesn't have this talent edge Georgia A&M Ohio State LSU Colorado are all taking these players away and we're starting to see what I'm very excited about is the college football play like playing field
Starting point is 00:36:59 start to love it. Yeah, it's not so double Lucy. Here's what's going on. You're so right because Alabama would have two or three quarterbacks. Now you don't have to wait, meaning if you're two and you're behind Jalen Hertz, you don't have to wait if you want to play. You could just leave and go into the transfer portal and play right away. So now these universities, these smaller schools are getting quarterbacks.
Starting point is 00:37:21 They never imagined that they would get. I mean, not a smaller school example, but Quinn Uers. He's sat at Ohio State and now he's one of the best quarterbacks in college football. I think it just opens up all these possibilities and I'm really, really excited about it because we're seeing teams like Colorado compete and that's really cool. But do you guys understand when we sit here and talk about legacy television of late night television, dying or dwindling Saturday night live You don't want anymore. You're telling me Scott Van Pelt has to carry around sports center
Starting point is 00:37:51 Saturday night on television people gathered around to watch the sports shake at the center of the revolution of the cash and money and Different and coaches showing up to the game in a bends and his son is wearing a Rolex and here are the rappers and it's a Saturday night of television when nobody can get people to the television. Your telemetry legacy television is fallen apart to have Deon Sanders own prime time on Saturday night over 50. It's crazy and it's just where commerce is at the crossroads of college football.
Starting point is 00:38:26 Where in three games you're seeing the whole structure shake. And what makes it more interesting, if you're telling me there are more interesting teams that can be in play, for they can be excellent too, because why they just brought in 50 new dudes. Like they brought in 50 guys, they didn't have to follow any of the old rules about the player has no power. He just came in with Louis Vuitton luggage flew the plane and it has a new football team. That's what's crazy about Alabama though is that there are there were quarterbacks in the portal and they didn't get the best one. Like you would expect that Nick Saban would be able to either recruit the best quarterback out of high school that's ready to play or
Starting point is 00:39:03 be able to recruit recruit the best quarterback through the portal that he wanted Van Dyke Hartman went to Notre Dame though. And Notre Dame's offensive coordinator and their backup who wasn't good enough to start at Notre Dame went to Alabama and started this weekend. And that's what's crazy to me. I just want you guys to all notice that what toppled Nick Saban is someone else being able to pay the quarterbacks with players who had power. Like that's what you just happened to the sport. The hunt Sanders rides in 50 mercenaries. His kids, it's a Sanders family commercial affair. And at USC, they just bought the coach and the quarterback. Thank you.
