Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to DraftKings Network. Welcome to the Big Sui, presented by DraftKings. Why are you listening to this show? The podcast that seems very similar to the other Dan LeBattard podcast. I'm sorry, I'm not going to apologize for that. In fact, the only difference seems to be this imaging. I have been tempted in restaurants just walking past tables to grab somebody's fries
Starting point is 00:00:33 that if they're just there. That hasn't happened to you guys? I've done it. And now here's the marching man to nowhere, fat face and the habitual liar. Here's what's happening. Taylor wants us to talk about the Knicks. I'm slightly reluctant.
Starting point is 00:00:48 Why? Well, because Taylor's Joy. It's annoying. It's annoying. And Taylor did exactly what I needed from him in the first round, which is take money that the company has and go to New York and suffer being a Knicks fan
Starting point is 00:01:07 while getting those 25 seconds that destroy your heart. And they had a great first round and all you experienced was the heartbreak of it. Go Knicks fan, go be there. You want a microphone, go lose, suffer, come home and be quiet. But Taylor's a little loud today. And Chris Cody is arguing with him during the breaks
Starting point is 00:01:27 in a way that's annoying to me because Taylor has now made Brunson a top two Nick of all time. A top two New York Nick of all time. There's Walt Frazier, Patrick Ewing, like what is he doing? I mean, he's not top two. This is the problem. He's not top two. This is the problem. He's not even out in Houston yet.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Yeah, as I said yesterday, these are people who are prisoners at Pelican Bay moment correctional facility, right? The idea that this thing is happening now, so clearly, this is the greatest and the most amazing thing, and the reality is, Jalen Brunson has won two playoff series in his Knick career. At this point. You cannot compare it to Alan Houston, to Patrick.
Starting point is 00:02:13 What does distort it is 40 point games in the offensive age. All he's saying is all NBA. Cause Alan Houston never was all NBA. So that's what he's holding on to. Jalen Brunson this year is all NBA. Allen Houston has been more successful in his NBA career. I've never argued for Allen Houston before, this is weird.
Starting point is 00:02:31 Carmelo is the place that you would want to go there before Allen Houston. I do, I think though that what this moment is for Knicks fans is here's a guy who is putting up, Chris Collinsworth, now here's a guy who is, he's put up numbers that like no one's done since Oscar Robertson. Yeah, look.
Starting point is 00:02:48 And so, and it's different for Knicks fans to have hope and expectations and have someone rise to meet that occasion. And I think that is why this is such a prisoner of the moment moment, because it's like, here's this guy who people discounted all year, who's smaller, who doesn't look like he should be great, who is great, and who has statistically played great,
Starting point is 00:03:10 and who is bringing a lot of joy, and then won a series when it seemed like it might be a hard series to win. And the other part of this also is the Victor Wemba-Nyama effect, which is, look, this dude is going to be the best defensive player in the league, perennially. This guy's going to be perhaps the best player in the league, perennially. This guy's going to be perhaps the best player in the league.
Starting point is 00:03:28 It's not there yet. We don't have to put the cart before the horse to show everyone how smart we were. Oh yeah, I was the first one to say Jalen Brunson's the best Nick Ever. Like, let him actually accomplish the things that you need to accomplish in order to make that claim, not just go off the field goods of the moment.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Guys, he might be the best player in the Eastern Conference right now. Like think about that. Yeah, I know. He's the best player in the Eastern Conference right now. There is a way though to give Jalen Brunson his flowers without being like, okay, he is already at the peak of the mountain. Outside of the historical thing.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Give him some room to work with so that we have somewhere to go. What Tony said is the way to talk about it. Like right now, right now, compare him to every other guy that would be somewhere to go. What Tony said is the way to talk about it. Like, right now, right now, compare him to every other guy that would be on that list. Oh, but that's why it happens, though. The reason it becomes prisoner of the moment is like, what do you mean we've got the best
Starting point is 00:04:14 guy in the Eastern Conference? Like, he keeps putting up 40-point games. This is the best feeling I've ever had. This guy's the best guy that's ever been in a Knicks uniform, because in the offensive age, he's making me feel good because I've got a guy who could score 40 and beat him beat on the road. And he's doing it in a way that is nonconventional. And Amin said this yesterday, like we've been conditioned to six, seven,
Starting point is 00:04:34 high flyer, dunking Anthony Edwards. When you see Jaylen Brunson shooting lefty, getting the fouls against people's body, like getting into the lane, shooting teardrops over people. He does it in an unconventional way, unconventional, excuse me. And it's like, he's playing incredible basketball right now. By the way, we- That's an unconventional way to say unconventional. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:04:50 Well done. There was a moment last night that we've kind of swept over, but I believe this is going to be a poster on many children's walls. Oh yeah, and Beed getting dunked on. Dunked on by OG Ananobe. Big time. After missing a dunk earlier in the game.
Starting point is 00:05:06 That was OG Ananobe's John Starks moment. Starks dunking on. Well, and anyone who questions the Knicks, I wonder if they've been watching when that guy is in the lineup and healthy and they're 17 and two. Because, well, whatever the record was, when he played, he is obviously a difference maker. That entire Knicks team changed.
Starting point is 00:05:26 We wouldn't be saying any of this about Brunson if they hadn't traded for him because they got the two seed because they traded for him. That team, you guys can speak to whether or not you think the Pacers can upset them or not because before that trade, I would have made the argument
Starting point is 00:05:44 that the Pacers could upset them. I having a little more I'm having a little more difficulty making the argument if he's healthy well I think Halliburton has not been this the star that he was earlier in the year in these playoffs when TJ McConnell is the guy that you know the announcers are like oh my god if you'd have told me TJ McCollum would be the guy, also, same birthday as me, nobody cares. When's your birthday? Marshall and Beth?
Starting point is 00:06:10 Yeah, probably would've been better to realize nobody cares before you said it. Well, I care. Happy belated, though. Thank you so much. I care very much. Thank you so much, Lucy. If no one's gonna say it, I'll say it.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Pacers and six. What, what? Ooh, nobody is saying that. You want her to have a happy home? Yeah. Actually, it would be a happy home. They would take all the stress out of it. The Knicks lost.
Starting point is 00:06:30 No, but the content, I feel, ugh. The content's always the best when the Knicks lose. What are you talking about? No, of the Knicks and the Celtics against each other. No, this is what I'll say. The Pacers can't beat them if they play like they did against Milwaukee. Like, that was their best effort
Starting point is 00:06:46 Against Milwaukee who was not a good team particularly without Damon Giannis That's not gonna get it done if they're playing the Knicks and as you said Tyrese Halliburton has not been what he was Pre all-star break so they're gonna need him to get back to life And then but it would be interesting to see Pascal Siakam against his old friend, OG Ananoby. A lot of Raptors on Raptors. The Pacers don't have the best basketball player in Indiana.
Starting point is 00:07:13 That's right. Shun played for the Pacers. I understand, Lucy, that you have some secret text from Taylor last night because I don't know where in the company Taylor is annoying people But he's a bit of a viral Entity he's been texting me during the show by the way yeah, he's a virus and
Starting point is 00:07:34 he smells like 28 hours on a train and But he still smells like that he can't get it off of him for some reason whether he showered or not but he still smells like that. He can't get it off of him for some reason, whether he's showered or not. Lucy, what were the exchanges you were having with Taylor, who again, all I wanted from Taylor is what I got from Taylor,
Starting point is 00:07:50 which is we will pay you to go to New York and suffer and then come back and tell us about how much it hurt. This is not what I need from Taylor. One, I don't know if he smells. I haven't been around him today, but I wanna say, Taylor, I don't think you smell. Taylor, come here. All right, yeah, Taylor, come in.
Starting point is 00:08:05 I don't want to smell you, Grace. Do we need to call him in? I want to smell him. Really? We gotta do that? You want to just smell him? I'm telling you that I walked past him and I smelled some train.
Starting point is 00:08:15 Normal smell, Dan. I smelled some normal train smell. I smelled fear. Fear? You smelled fear? He's afraid of the Pacers. He's not saying it, but he's giving it off. Lucy, what was the text exchange with him?
Starting point is 00:08:27 Every day I thank God for Jalen Brunson. I got that same text this morning. He's legit changed my life. I love this team more than anything in my life. I am dying, and then a bunch of exclamation points, and I stop to respond. Is that Ryan Archie Diocono texting you? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:42 Again, they have their own love language. It's not funny to anybody else, but it's theirs. Oh, it's on Oddball. No, no, it's funny to the Oddball crowd, but you're making a, you two are making a joke here that is landing, I've heard you make it a couple of times. No, it's funny, Dan, like they played together at the same school. Yeah, you get it.
Starting point is 00:08:58 And now they're not together, but then the guys. But the three of them are? Yeah, but like he's not, that's the funny part. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah's not that's the funny part Yeah, we get it oddball every day except Monday wherever it is that you get your podcasts I still don't understand what Charlotte is rooting for exactly because it sounds like marital strife is headed her way If she's not aware of what NYX fans become when they become unreasonable Because they've had no reason to do it and have done it anyway for 20 years. Now they have a reason to do it.
Starting point is 00:09:29 They're going to be one of the top four teams remaining, given that the West is going to, you know, eat itself up. This is true, Charlotte. It's almost like you're married to a werewolf, but it's never been a full moon. And you're like, he's fine, he's fine. He barks sometimes. That's a little hairy, but, you know, whatever. It's like a full moon. And you're like, he's fine, he's fine, he barks sometimes. That's a little hairy, but you know, whatever.
Starting point is 00:09:47 A full moon is gonna come out. If they make it to the conference finals and your husband is going to turn into an animal. So I'm very confident in my marriage. I love my husband very much. And I feel like the entertainment value, I'm so confident that I think the entertainment value of the Knicks and the Celtics going up against each other
Starting point is 00:10:10 would be exciting enough, because I'm not that worried about it. Is this Miami's worst nightmare? Knicks, Celtics, and the conference finals? I am so miserable. I've just been sitting here all day thinking about how much I hate this, and I hated it last night because I was sitting there
Starting point is 00:10:26 just watching the entire time through the prism of, man, if the Heat had just been healthy, I kinda think they could have beat either of these teams. And that sucks. No, no, no, the Knicks have no chance against the Celtics. Oh, they're gonna lose in five to the Celtics. So that's gonna be fun for us. We're gonna get to say the team that beat us
Starting point is 00:10:42 went all the way to the finals. And the Knicks did the same. Oh, that's, just put yourself a couple weeks from now Taylor's pain. Yeah, I mean they're down to O to the Celtics like this is gonna be good guys This feels jinx eat to me. It hurts right now, but it's like you just jinx the Celtics Jason Tatum is gonna have an amazing game. I remember what Tony said that Jalen Brunson was the best Yeah, I was just sitting here I literally marked it on our audio so that we could go back to it later
Starting point is 00:11:05 for Parade of Gas Packs. The Derek White, Jalen Brunson face off. I mean, we- What? I'm just kidding, but he has more points. We mentioned- Than anybody. That Derek White has a lot more points than some of the stars in the league, but Brunson has more points in assists
Starting point is 00:11:22 than Don Cich has so far in the playoffs, small sample size, but what Tony is saying is not wrong. Through the first round of the playoffs, because of all of the injuries, the best player in the Eastern Conference has been Jalen Brunson. Jason Tatum has been a passenger. They didn't need him against, in fact, I would say that one of the things that has changed so much about the Celtics is that they now have five starters better than anyone else's five starters. And as Amin said yesterday, people have been talking about poor Zingas and Holliday, and you're just not noticing the evolution of Derek White into a player that makes the Celtics far and away more formidable than all of the other five starting lineups that you have
Starting point is 00:12:04 in the league, all the other five starting lineups that you have in the league. Or all the other starting fives. The biggest criticism of the Celtics is that they can't play all that well in close games down the stretch. I just think they're so talented that they're barely gonna have to do that. It's the one thing that they didn't do against the Heat in one game, and I think that they're just gonna blow
Starting point is 00:12:20 the brakes off of everybody. I thought you were gonna say the, wait, what did you say? The most? All right, you're really having a the, wait, what did you say? The most? Alright, you're really having a struggle and not surprising she forgot to do what I asked her the last three minutes. I knew that was going to happen. Like I just was, I was certain that. I thought you were going to say their problem is that they're from Boston.
Starting point is 00:12:34 There it is. Go sit in the penalty box. I just love those. She's not even going to do the thing. No, I don't want, do it in the penalty box. Go do it in the penalty box. No, I don't need it here anymore. I knew you were going to forget.
Starting point is 00:12:43 You had one job. You had one job. You had one job. Hearing Jeremy talk about the Celtics, when they're gonna play other teams, he's like, they're gonna blow the brakes off them. When it was Heat Celtics, he's like, the Heat might not get a game in this year. And now every team is-
Starting point is 00:12:56 Well, they got a game. It's just funny to hear the difference in your tone when you're not talking about the Celtics with the Heat. Well, of course. I'm bought and paid for, as you guys have made abundantly clear every day on this show. Dan finally he admits it.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Only took him the entire season to do it. What, it's blowing the brakes off of someone, like what does that even mean? I know what it means. Beating them by a lot. You're going so fast that you try to stop and the brakes break, some idiom. Blow out.
Starting point is 00:13:20 I know, but is it? Like what, I'd like to understand, I know what you meant that it means But I don't know what the origins of blow the brakes I don't even know if you've said it and ass-whippin Dano blow the brakes off somebody. I know but isn't it beat the brakes off? I'm with Dan ass-whippin. I think he said it wrong. I think blowing the brakes is something completely different probably is my bad Okay, but again, what is beating the brakes off of somebody?
Starting point is 00:13:48 Destroying them. Beating them by a lot of points. I know what it means. I just don't know what it means. That's the sound of fried chicken with a spicy history. Thornton Prince was a ladies' man. To get revenge, his girlfriend hid spices in his fried chicken. He loved it so much he opened Prince's Hot Chicken.
Starting point is 00:14:12 This is one of many sounds in Tennessee with a story to tell. To hear them in person, plan your trip at TNVacation..com Tennessee sounds perfect. Don LeBertard. Yeah, enjoy a long and fruitful run, Dan. What was that voice? A Celtics fan. That was a Celtics fan? Well, it was me.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Stugats. Oh, it's amazing. It's amazing to see the mask pulled off and to see you so clearly. You were in such good disguise and I didn't know it was you. It's to me, a Celtics fan. This is the Don LeBathard Show with the Stugats. What Amin said about what is going to happen to Charlotte's husband in what is presently as we speak a solid marriage but is about to be tested.
Starting point is 00:15:08 A werewolf barking before it becomes a werewolf. He said, he said barking before it becomes a werewolf. So you're standing there and you're like, I know I've married a Knicks fan, but I don't know what a Knicks fan looks like with genuine hope and confidence. Like I haven't seen that in my lifetime. You really haven't.
Starting point is 00:15:27 She has, when you guys met when the Nix were bad. So you have no idea what's coming. So you don't know what's coming, but Barking is coming in the second round and God help us all what's coming in the Eastern Conference Finals because I've been arguing all year with Nix fans, all year. You can't beat Boston.
Starting point is 00:15:46 Turn it down a little, you can hope and enjoy it. And they've convinced themselves, because they had Porzengis, they've convinced themselves, nah, I don't trust that. That's not going to beat me. And a Knicks fan with volume and hope is somebody who is very annoying. You know why I want an Eastern Conference Finals
Starting point is 00:16:07 Knicks Celtics? Cause I wanna see how New York and Boston, I kinda wanna see New York and Boston fans like once and for all be like, who's the worst? Also I wanna know, you know, there's F Trey Young, then there's F and B, I wanna know who they seize on on the Celtics to also also everyone in Indiana and and They're like, oh my god, you guys are the absolute worst like you skipped over the second round
Starting point is 00:16:32 Yeah to go to these like yeah Well, I mean, let's be honest Indiana's having the best moment of its life. Yeah, they're having a good time But I just won his first playoff series Since the 2011 NBA finals. I saw that that was insane I didn't know that happened then he then he did that thing where it was down here. That was hilarious We're talking about flying under the radar. This were dock rivers Everybody would have been like hooting it from the mountaintops But Rick Carlisle gets to fly right under the radar old good old Rick. Hasn't won a playoff series in a decade.
Starting point is 00:17:06 When you mention barking werewolves, and we pair that with your general disdain for Jessica's dog and dogs in general, what happened, Tony? Again, I have to come to my client right here because I'm his attorney. It's not a disdain for dogs. It's a disdain for dogs, it's a disdain for dogs in human places, the workplace, the airplane, the airport,
Starting point is 00:17:29 things that dogs shouldn't be allowed to be in. Well, thank you for bringing that up because I was curious what Amin's thoughts on Bark Airways are. Love it. I love it. So if you don't know, there's a new airline called Bark Airways.
Starting point is 00:17:43 And it's only dogs. Well, and their parents. The dogs have to check themselves in. They're the pilots, they're the pilots. Well yeah, it's tough though, because dogs don't have opposable thumbs, so like, planes. Their thumbs just seem to get along.
Starting point is 00:17:55 But they fly themselves at this point. Oh, that's true. It's a real airline, it's not flown by dogs. It's for dogs and their owners. And so, you people. With like the head cans on outside the plane, like directly in the plane. Oof, oof, oof.
Starting point is 00:18:10 What was that, a gorilla of some sort? Can't tell you a joke. What was that? That wasn't a dog. What's the sound? Yes, you can tell me a joke, but what was that sound? Why did the plane crash?
Starting point is 00:18:20 Oh boy. I don't know if I should answer this one. Because the pilot was a loaf of bread. Yeah, like it was a loaf of bread. Yeah, like it was a loaf of bread flying the plane, so of course it crashed. You want to still do the clapping thing? No, no, no, please, please, please, please. I love her so much.
Starting point is 00:18:36 Go sit in the penalty box. Please, please, please, please, please, please. I thought you were going to say- I'll just be quiet for a little bit. No, no, no, be quiet over there. In the co-host chair? I thought you were going to say it because it was a rough flight. Oh, no, no, be quiet over there. In the co-host chat? I thought you were gonna say it because it was a rough flight.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Oh. But that, there was no dog. Bark rough? Rough. Rough. Yeah, I know, but like in the joke that I told there was no dog. It was just a total non-secret.
Starting point is 00:18:55 She's telling like a different joke, guys. Get out. Do werewolves bark? No, they howl. No, they don't bark. That's why I thought it was funny. That's the reason. Your husband first is going to start barking
Starting point is 00:19:05 and you're gonna be like, well, maybe he'll turn into a dog and then it's gonna be a werewolf and you're gonna get divorced. Because you don't understand what's. No. What is that taking into these places? Everyone is underestimating the Celtics fan in me.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Well, wow. Maybe you're the werewolf. No, here's how we know you're not a werewolf. Because I've seen the Celtics be good and you've just gotten more neurotic as the time has gone by. I'm gonna need you to leave. Somebody get her a loaf of bread
Starting point is 00:19:29 so she can sit there in the penalty box by herself and the loaf of bread. I did want to ask Amin something. I'm not done on Bark Airways. Please, go ahead. So we were talking about this earlier and I think Lewis was saying, well, they should have a thing in regular planes
Starting point is 00:19:48 where it's like an under compartment, where I said, no, no! You want to fly with your dog? Bark Airways! Bark Airways? I will invest in Bark Airways. I'll put my money on it just to make sure I never have to sit next to a stinking mutt
Starting point is 00:20:06 For the rest of my days as I fly concierge key ladies and gentlemen, that's right But they're gonna be at the airport though If there's a whole airline now, I feel like we're gonna have more dog over there though. They're over there over there Security their terminal their gates are all the way at the end because they need the they need the walkies, right? Then that what they got walkies. Yeah, you get walkies going to your gate over there go for a walk then they got walkies. I never heard that Maybe not. I don't know. What are you talking about? What do you think that phrase is? It means like when they tell her the dog let's go for all the walkies walkies you want to go walkies I think you just heard one friend of yours say that with their dog
Starting point is 00:20:44 No, let's go for walkies say that with their dog and you're like, doesn't everyone do that? Not universal, not a universal language. Not a dog for a walk? No, let's go for a walk is probably what they say. Walkies? Like baby talk for a dog? Want to go? Want to go? Yes! That's how they all talk. Let's go for a little walkie. Do you ever go into someone's house with a dog and they're like, we don't say W-A-L-K
Starting point is 00:21:00 because they get super excited and then I'll just be like, what, walk? And then the dog gets excited and we're not going for a walk. They believe the treats is the one yeah, they go run into the kitchen So I've got a spell treats and park around the animals What do you do when they learn how to spell we spell lunch around Dan? You said it you should have spelled it dude Should I? Should I? Should I?
Starting point is 00:21:22 Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I?
Starting point is 00:21:29 Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I?
Starting point is 00:21:35 Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I?
Starting point is 00:21:42 Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? Should I? walkies, barkies, and doggies. Did you have a thought or are you a little slow because you haven't been around here for three weeks? I would say I'm a little, I stayed up for the game last night, was shocked. So I'm a little bit tired. I got like six hours of sleep.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Normally I need 10. Yeah, women need more sleep than men. I don't know if people know that. It's something like with our hormonal cycle. So we need 10 hours or it's like nine, but I could go for 12 usually. Put it on the poll at LeBataard show did you know that women need more sleep than men? I did not know that. Something I did learn the other day though that I did not know was scientifically so. Women are less equipped for long periods of fasting than men.
Starting point is 00:22:26 Some doctors told me that and I was like, really? I get cranky so they're probably right. Doctors with an S? Yes, plural, doctors. Yeah, second opinion? Yes, I got it from a male doctor and I'm like, wait a minute. And then I went to a couple of women and I'm like, okay, now I verified it, I didn't know whether this guy
Starting point is 00:22:45 was just a sexist or whether he was a scientist. I went to the store, he's like, I asked Patrick Beverly, I didn't even know what to do to work for. No, you know, I agree, Lucy, and someone in the comments was like, Charlotte seems like she's on muscle relaxers. It's because-
Starting point is 00:22:59 I am on muscle relaxers. I do take magnesium, but I am tired, and when women need more sleep, just working day in, day out here in Miami, Dan, not getting enough sleep, loopy. I knew I was rooting for the Knicks when they talked about how Josh Hart needs an afternoon nap, and I was like, he's just like me, we're the same.
Starting point is 00:23:21 Charlotte thinks that's what makes her loopy? Well, it certainly doesn't help. Sleep deprivation. I believe the loopiness is baked into the bread. I would like, if you don't mind, just the last, no, I'm not gonna ask you to leave, but if at some point during this last little bit that we're on here live,
Starting point is 00:23:40 I could get the Boston slash New York accent, it doesn't have to be now, but just how it is, what it is you were saying and how you were cheering behind what we're doing for the Knicks last night. But before I do that, I wanted to ask Amin about this. I wanted to get his expertise on something. Yesterday, a lot of people got mad at me because I said the Jimmy Butler window has closed
Starting point is 00:24:04 and they came with the reasonable argument of how can you say the Jimmy Butler window is closed when he played zero points and or played zero minutes in the playoffs and scored zero points and I'm like how they're like how do you close that window and I'm like with his birth certificate so Ooh. So, no, but it's only because. God is that. No, but it's this with the following, and this part's important over what I've seen in the last five years.
Starting point is 00:24:35 The Celtics are not just merely younger. Where we started when these teams were so close that it could be a bam out of bio block at the rim, and Eric Spolstra's it could be a bam out of bio block at the rim and Eric Spolstra's coaching could be winning in the margins over the last five years. That gap has changed and it changed this year as he's gotten older. And so I am closing the window on him through no fault of his own. It's his age combined with how much better
Starting point is 00:25:11 Boston has gotten because Jimmy Butler has never beaten in five years a Boston team this good The one he was beating was not this one and that's why I say it because Boston It's not just that I expect Lillard and Yannis to be better next year at the top of the conference and now the Knicks are here It's it's because of boston getting that much better and i was curious about your opinions of jimmy butler wanting reportedly an extension of two years a hundred twenty million dollars yes so that that's that's where this all leads to is the the window close i would say
Starting point is 00:25:41 not necessarily i think it's, I mean he's 34 years old. The injury was a freak injury where he landed wrong because Kelly Oubre may or may not have done an unintentionally dirty play. But the reality is that's not the issue. The issue is he wants to get paid like this window's going on forever. Two years, $122 million.
Starting point is 00:26:05 Right now he's got next year on the books, the year after that as a player option. So they would tack on two more years on top of that, which would take him to about 38 years old. It would buy out the player option year for what it's worth. It would turn the player option year instead of 52 million into 58 million.
Starting point is 00:26:21 So it's an increase in salary that year, one additional year to his contract. So 37. Mm-hmm. But to be paying, you know, in the ideal, if things were perfect, you would pay NBA players a lot more than they get paid early on in their career, and then over time it would start decreasing. Instead, we get this position where because it gives credit to vets, you get more money
Starting point is 00:26:49 as you go along, but the reality is the productivity does not keep up with the salary. We saw this with Kobe Bryant, particularly after he tore his Achilles. It's like, okay, he gets paid this much because he's the face of the team, and we've got a lot of stuff that is marketed around him. What do you do though? I kind of, I think. You have to just give him the money, don't you? I don't know if you have to give him the money.
Starting point is 00:27:14 I think you can get away with, can we play this next year out and see how it goes? Ooh. With Jimmy? With him? What's he gonna do? Make a mess? What kind of mess?
Starting point is 00:27:27 The same one he makes when he's unhappy and people are uncomfortable dealing with Jimmy the bleephole? I think the difference was when he did that earlier, it was with an eye of going somewhere specifically where they were going to pay him what he felt he was worth. I'm not even saying he's not worth it, I'm just saying,
Starting point is 00:27:49 can we play out this year and see what happens? Because what happens at the end of that, if he does make a mess, where does he go? Where's the place that's like 120 million, that's cool. Do you want me to do the little league thing? I mean, we've got 20 seconds left, and I was hoping you forgot. No. You brought it back up.
Starting point is 00:28:07 Okay, good eye. He's like a dog with a bone with it. Good eye? Good eye, kid. It's off ball, it's little league softball. I wanted what she was yelling. My heart's not in it, Dan. It was a ball.
Starting point is 00:28:16 She won't be coached. Her Josh heart isn't in it. My heart's not in it, Dan. You go sit in the penalty box. The show's over. I know, it's gonna be like a Beverly suspension get out of here Don LeBataard and it was the number one show on the land because the big star of this show was a man who was Cool cuz he wore a leather jacket the Fahs
Starting point is 00:28:35 the fronds Fahns The German version the Frans Stugatz from us Stugats I did not think she could do better than the Fahs which was her initial offering But then it became the French television show happy days. This is the Don LeBathardt show with the Stugats Is this a me thing or does this happen to all of you? Because I just realized looking through these glasses, I just realized this as I saw Lucy's
Starting point is 00:29:15 wearing sunglasses, as I saw Jeremy's wearing sunglasses, as I heard Charlotte say, I don't have my sunglasses, I didn't realize that I was wearing my sunglasses until all of that happened. Does that happen to you guys where you put on your sunglasses and you're wearing them indoors and you don't realize, because I have prescription sunglasses, they're reading glasses as well,
Starting point is 00:29:39 and so I sometimes am ridiculous in that I'm wearing sunglasses. My wife will do this at night sometimes I'll be wearing my sunglasses just reading the iPad at 10 p.m. because I'm just wearing the prescription sunglasses that happen to be sunglasses and I don't realize I'm wearing sunglasses I do that sometimes but most the time when I'm wearing sunglasses at night or inside it's a clear fashion statement it just looks really good with my outfit. Chris, go to any of the Kentucky fraud chickens
Starting point is 00:30:06 to make an appearance here. Yo, chicken time. What? Are you kidding me? Oh, you didn't know? Oh, my god. Oh, something on my face. I thought these were just regular glasses.
Starting point is 00:30:16 Who turned the lights off? Hey, you're making me do it. No way. I can't believe it. None of us were doing it. You're trying to make this up. So it is just me, then. You're answering my question.
Starting point is 00:30:24 It is just me that this happened to. Your prescription. It doesn't happen to everybody then, you're saying, because I'm not lying. I didn't intend to be wearing the sunglasses in here. Okay, I stand corrected. It would happen to me except I got glasses last year and I haven't gotten prescription sunglasses.
Starting point is 00:30:41 So when I drive and it's bright, I stopped at a gas station and I bought those grandmother, you know, the ones my grandmother wore with, that go over your glasses. And they're very heavy on my face. So it's hard to forget that I have them on. You drive with those on? Yeah. That's embarrassing. I'm sorry. Or it's cool. I think it's super cool. Hear me out. Put it on the poll at Levitard show. Do you ever wear your sunglasses indoors without realizing that you're wearing your sunglasses? I have my glasses are the transition ones
Starting point is 00:31:12 that turn into sunglasses when you go out in the sun. So I end up being someone that is wearing sunglasses inside because it'll take a few minutes to kind of detint once you've walked in. Jeremy described what is perhaps one of the most common optical devices, which is the transition lenses. And Charlotte reacted like she'd never heard of them. No, no, no, I just didn't know Jeremy had them.
Starting point is 00:31:36 I do, I don't wear my glasses often. Also, how does suddenly everybody have sunglasses but me in here? What's that? Oh, is there something on my face? I hadn't noticed. You know, I was just living my life and then all of a sudden these things changing the tint
Starting point is 00:31:52 of the world around me appeared. Not on my, not intentionally. Can I just, I'm curious because I don't know that my sunglasses are tailor-made because I've been having some glaucoma issues over the last couple of years. Put on my sunglasses and tell me if you see a change of tint that I'm not recognizing because I'm not lying.
Starting point is 00:32:18 I don't understand why you think I would lie about this. I'm not someone who would wear sunglasses indoors on purpose, and I'm wondering if there's something wrong, even more wrong with my vision, that I don't know when I'm wearing sunglasses. Taylor made a golf brand? Yes. Wait, did Taylor make golf and sunglasses?
Starting point is 00:32:37 Taylor, get in here! Let me smell you, do you smell like money? Such a bad joke from both of you. Just so inside. A ball, every day but Monday. So inside, a Taylor joke from both of you. Just so inside. So inside. A Taylor joke. Answer my question. My question.
Starting point is 00:32:50 These are pretty. Just answer my question. Look, it's clearly they're a prescription lens, right? I can get the little vibe. Yeah, there's stuff going on in there. Stuff going on. But also clearly, the world is not as bright. So if you mean to tell me that you're wearing
Starting point is 00:33:06 these sunglasses, but to you they feel like regular glasses? Is that what you're saying, Dan Lipitard? Yeah, I guess it's darker, but I'm just what sunglasses do. You have them on, you forget, you get used to it being a little darker, especially an iPad that's bright. Thank you, I don't like my allies, but thank you. I don't know what that means.
Starting point is 00:33:23 Well, because you're forgetful, too. You're similarly aligned on... You don't want to be a member of a club that would have you? I don't want to be a member of a club that you're aligned with me in. That would have you. I wish I had said that, but I want to see some Ben Stiller tweets here, because it's not just New York Knicks fans that are going to get more aggressive. It is celebrity fans who are getting...
Starting point is 00:33:49 And the last game we saw Mr. Furious, Ben Stiller looking at Maxey in a way that was enraged. What are your thoughts? What's the thoughts of the group on Ben Stiller being maximum fan guy? He's been waiting for a long time for this team to be good. I thought Roy had his account for a second. Nick Sixers tied after the third quarter.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Thanks, Chris. You can't tell whether he's glowering at you because he's wearing sunglasses. Oh, I can feel it. Oh, I'm definitely glowering. That was earned. Ben Stiller is going to be maximum fan guy as an adult. Oh, I'm definitely glowering. That was earned. Ben Stiller is going to be maximum fan guy as an adult just, he's, when's the last time
Starting point is 00:34:30 Nick's fans felt this good? I'm dead serious. I mean, give me a year, give me a year. 2000 Littrell Spreewell grabbing the rebound off the Wetherspoon miss and tiptoeing on the baseline and Dick Bavetta giving him the timeout. Or as Tim Hardaway called him, Nick Bavetta. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:34:49 Yeah. That was that. Need some aloe for that burn? Lucy, you're telling me it's been a quarter century. Yes. They haven't felt it. The Carmelo years, maybe Linsanity. Linsanity for those seven days.
Starting point is 00:35:01 That's true. No, it is Linsanity. But that was regular season too. That was regular season. No, but it is Linsanity. Postseason. Yes, but is no it is linsanity. That was regular season. No, but it is linsanity Yes, but to think that you think that you had they thought they had Brunson They thought they had Asian Brunson They did for a second for 13 games or 17 games. They thought they had Asian Brunson. No joke
Starting point is 00:35:21 He was incredible for that run. Oh my God, he was. He was incredible. There's no, but let me do it now. Let me make Brunson right now Asian. Let me stack L'Insanity on top of it and put it in the playoffs. Because this is, it's steroids. It's, New York fans have been loud without having earned it. When Ben Stiller's out here saying this is earned, they haven't earned it,
Starting point is 00:35:43 and now they feel like they've earned it It's about to get so unpleasant Very unpleasant, but you know what I sort of respect it. It makes it fun nighties are back Dano down libertard Our Panther group chat we're confident against the lighting. This is a different team your panther group chat No, no, I think no, but dude, you're you're so wrong on that We've been terrified of this team forever, and I think there's a different energy where the Panthers they want the lightning Stugats I want t-shirts made for this Panther run what could be this Panther run our Panther group chat We're not afraid of the lightning. That's a tagline for world three
Starting point is 00:36:20 This is the done libertar show with the Stugats This is the Don LeBattar Show with the StuGats. Look at this guy. Look at him. Look at him. He's making people in South Florida radiant everywhere. Just stare at him, Chris Cody. I mean, I've been staring at him and I've already told him I loved him off air.
Starting point is 00:36:39 Chris, don't make him uncomfortable. Tony, Jeremy, settle down. He's bringing a lot of happiness to South Florida. Look at him. I must be honest with you, Sam. I have to apologize to you because I did not think that you were a 60-fucking-goal-scorer. Forgive me for being an idiot and not knowing that you're someone who can score 60 goals in a season.
Starting point is 00:37:04 Clearly, you knew, correct? This is something that you're someone who can score 60 goals in a season clearly you knew correct. This is something that you knew. I don't know if this is a permanent sunburn you guys are making me blush this early as this is nice. But that's ridiculous 60 calls get out of here like what do you what do you want what. Yeah, I can't say it's a it's a number and ever ever thought about you know you get off to a good start and it's a number I'd ever thought about.
Starting point is 00:37:26 You know, you get off to a good start and it's kind of a snowball effect. I'm curious how you guys are with each other. Like, are we competitive over goals? Obviously, you know, you guys wanna win, but is there like shit talking going on, joking stuff about you getting all the goals and stuff like that, and then maybe them trying to keep the puck away from you jokingly?
Starting point is 00:37:45 Not really. I mean, there's a lot of shit talking going on in our room. That's the kind of group we have. Who's the most, Lombard? Cause he takes the brunt of it a lot. But it takes a big man to be able to stand up there and take it and dish it back. So I give them all the credit in the world.
Starting point is 00:38:10 I know hockey players are respectful. I know you don't like to bother other teams, but beating Tampa Bay after what the last five years have been and the turnover on the team caused by Tampa Bay. That feels extra special, different than beating anyone else. Does it not? Yeah, I think you look at the history between the two teams, obviously geographically being so close. We see each other so many times. Right from the preseason, it's some heavy battles.
Starting point is 00:38:49 You know, to be on the short end of the stick for a couple years, to see them win it a couple times. That's a team you're trying to beat, you know, to try and accomplish our goals. You hate Kucherov and Stamkos the way we do, right? Come on. Absolutely, yeah. Yeah, yeah. And that 88, get him, get him the hell out of here. Like Vasileski, get out of here. Yeah. I mean, I think
Starting point is 00:39:12 you hate them because of the success you've had and you want the success they've had and you want to knock them off their pedestal a little bit. And, you know, we're trying to get there as well. And also just because you hate them. Absolutely. Yeah, okay. I can't believe how Paul Ball has taken over this team. Now Barkov is hitting people. Is this a different Barkov we're seeing? I think you saw it last playoffs especially
Starting point is 00:39:37 just how he was able to elevate his game. He's so dominant, he's such a presence out there, he's such a man amongst boys. And as everyone elevates their game in the postseason, you know, when he's elevating it, there's only so much you can do on the other side of it. The control he has, you know, just in the battles, he wins every puck. He's never on the losing side of it, he's such a man out there. So it's a nice guy to have, it's a nice leader to create the path for us.
Starting point is 00:40:12 Can you explain to us what's happening in South Florida right now? Because the Panthers have been a laughing stock franchise for almost the entire time I've been alive, except for the last five years where you guys, this group, has built something different here that makes the Panthers reputationally something that I now trust and the style of hockey that you played this year, which was so much different than the style you were playing two years ago, to see organizationally
Starting point is 00:40:42 all this blossom around you. I'm curious what your life is like away from the arena as someone who has helped make and restore this market as a hockey market, because people in that area really care about this team. There's so much that goes into it. Obviously, like you said, it's, it starts with the culture. It was starting to turn before I actually got here. You saw the level of competitiveness. They were showing the level of talent they had here, especially in that COVID year.
Starting point is 00:41:27 It's certainly been built for the time I've got here for the last three years. Are you famous in South Florida? Are you famous? Like, do you walk around and anyone bothers you? No, it's honestly the best of both worlds. You're pretty anonymous for the most part. There's a certain amount of perks and especially around playoff time, you see the excitement around, you see the buzz around. I think last postseason was the first time we had actually seen it and away
Starting point is 00:42:03 from the rink a little bit and seeing the buzz in the area. So that's carried over till this year as well. Give me a number of times Sam Reinhart has walked into a restaurant in South Florida and there has been a standing ovation. A zero, might have to go all the way. We gotta make it happen. That is hard.
Starting point is 00:42:23 But Sam, in 1997, Scottott melonby and brian scrudeland were getting that in town you scored sixty goals if you were in edmonton right now if you if you were anywhere else in the hockey right now doing that would you not be met with a standing ovation in restaurants around town don't know if people, you know, I think there's a level of respect here. I don't know how many people would want that standing o.
Starting point is 00:42:52 You know, you're treated very well, but your privacy is respected here, and that's kind of the best of both worlds. You don't want the standing ovation from the fans, but you do want the manager to recognize you, so you can get that quick table, huh? No wait. Absolutely, yeah. That's the standing ovation from the fans, but you do want the manager to recognize you so you can get that quick table, huh? No wait. Absolutely, yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:07 That's the standing ovation you want. That is all you care about. You're getting, are you getting a lot of that at least? Are you getting, what are some of the perks of being a 60 goal scorer in South Florida? You know, the best part of both is you leave the rink and you kind of park it at the rink. That's honestly the best part about it. You're not surrounded by it, you know, with the 24-7.
Starting point is 00:43:36 It's easy to separate life away at home and life at the rink and that's kind of the way I prefer it. I want you swept away with emotion. I am unsatisfied by your general level of stoicism and hockey face. I wanna know how it is that you feel deep down. Let's tickle him, Dan. Yeah, well, in that soul that he keeps hidden
Starting point is 00:44:00 because he's made of wires and he's gotta go hit people and what he does is hard for a living and so he hides from us. hides in the in the muscles and the athleticism but I want his soul and he's not giving it to me and what am I to do with that because you're not giving me the emotion of this run Reinhardt I think I think the emotion would come from from from winning it all that would probably bring out some emotion a little bit more. Unsatisfying to merely knock out the lightning now? That's where we are with the standards?
Starting point is 00:44:32 Oh, just them. That doesn't mean much. You're not going to get any emotion from me there. I think you saw probably after the game for 20, 30 minutes and then it's kind of move on to the next. That's kind of how we're built. I think it's a little bit in the hockey culture. You kind of move on to the next. 20 or 30 minutes of joy, that's what you allow yourself before you have to go back to the suffering? I mean, I live in South Florida. The other 23 and a half hours of the day
Starting point is 00:45:05 are pretty enjoyable as well, just at home in the sun. Dan, what you're not understanding is that these guys on the Panthers hang out on Los Olas, they're going to places like Louis Bossy, just hanging out, nobody's bothering them, and they're just having a good time hanging out in Fort Lauderdale, living the life. You don't get to live in any other hockey city in America.
Starting point is 00:45:24 And Rhino is up for a new contract this offseason I mean he has got himself paid with this season that he's had hopefully we can get you to stay maybe a little hometown discount I'm wondering what I can do to sweeten the pot. What can we do? What can we do as a people as a South Florida people to keep you here That also a driver sounds nice, everything's laundry, it all sounds nice. Done. Where do you need me to pick it up?
Starting point is 00:45:49 What do you mean done? I'll do it. Dan, you don't think I'll do Rhino's laundry? No, every day? No, I don't. Not every day, once a week. You don't even do your laundry. To get him to stay?
Starting point is 00:45:59 Do you know how much that hockey laundry stinks? Oh, it's so bad. Like the hockey locker room is one of the foulest places on the earth. Do you get used to that smell? No, there's no one who gets used to that smell. I bet he's used to it. It doesn't smell too bad.
Starting point is 00:46:10 The technology these days, the whatever they got pumping in there, it doesn't smell too bad. Which pad smells the worst? You guys, Sam, the way that your uniform all all of you stinks after a game It's unholy the way that I don't think people understand the equipment that you guys wear what you take off your bodies Is the foulest thing it's fouler than football It might be I mean you're you're You're you're constantly sweating for for an hour and a half,
Starting point is 00:46:47 whether you're in the room, on the bench, or on the ice. Do you know, football I've never actually played, so I don't know, but are guys leaking that much? I'm not sure. We don't have to get into this. I'm just telling you the hockey locker room locker room You might have gotten used to it But the dampness of the hockey locker room after one of these games is it's disorienting It's you're sticking your face in a bunch of swamp ass
Starting point is 00:47:15 Yeah, I think the worst would be I mean you go to a minor hockey rig That's that's probably the grossest our gears our gears cleaned on probably a daily daily. Trainers are doing a good job, but I mean, sure, if you're not used to it, it's probably a little gross. I want to show you something happening in Tampa here that I was surprised by where your team is not lovable, your team is annoying, your team is going to be hated for its style of play because you're very frustrating and very physical, but the city of Tampa here, they keep their word. Their city hall is Panthers colors because they are living in support of Florida hockey.
Starting point is 00:47:52 Are you surprised by this? Are you grateful for this? Did you know of this? This is the first I've heard about it. That's a nice touch. I mean, you battle on the ice and once it's done it's done I kind of respect that. That's a loser move by them. You beat the respect out of them. You you make you hate them so thank you for your honor Tampa but he's already on the
Starting point is 00:48:15 record as hating them the way that we hate them and you can keep your lights and you can keep your City Hall. I congratulate Sam Reinhardt and the Panthers for finally finishing that godforsaken thing in Tampa. Thank you for doing a public service for hockey, for South Florida, for the region in general. We thank you for your service sir. Absolutely. It's a pleasure to be here to help. On the way out, do you want in on our group chat, our Panthers group chat? Because we are fired up right now and we knew we had a good feeling about the
Starting point is 00:48:44 Tampa series. They did. Do you want in on the group chat? our Panthers group chat, because we are fired up right now, and we knew we had a good feeling about the Tampa series. They did. Do you want in on the group chat? Do you want any involvement in the show's group chat, because they had a good feeling about the Panthers? What's the kind of number of texts I'm gonna receive after games, over or under? About 248.
Starting point is 00:49:02 240? That's not the way to get him, Chris. I'm just being honest, and it's an annoying chat. No, but he doesn't want to be in the chat. About 248 That's not the way to get him Negotiating oh you blew it you Chris he was gonna let you in you're still you're in you know what I'll connect you with that He I'll get your number And you scared him off with an aggressive number of techs. It's an annoying group chat free drinks at Casa sensei though We'll get you Sam. Thank you. They're not gonna do your laundry. They're only gonna annoy you by text Don't allow them into your world Probably good advice appreciate it
Starting point is 00:49:37 Thank you Sam. I love you. Thanks for having me guys. I love you. It's creepy man. It's creepy. I'm gonna stop doing oh
