Starting point is 00:00:00 There is nothing casual about football season. You can tell yourself, you're just going to watch one game, and six hours later, you're emotionally invested in a fourth quarter between two teams you don't even care about. That's what I love about this time of year. The entire weekend becomes football. Your texting friends, tracking games, second-guess and coaches, convincing yourself you saw something before everybody else did. And then Monday comes around and you get to do the whole thing again.
Starting point is 00:00:28 Those are the weekends you remember. And for me, some of the best ones have usually involved some good people, a great game, and a cold Miller-Light. No matter what triumphs are in store this season, legendary game days start with Miller-Light. Cold, crisp, refreshing, that clean finish. And it's part of plenty of memorable football weekends. Make Game Day legendary. Go to MillerLight.com slash Dan to find delivery options near you, or you can pick up some Miller-Light pretty much anywhere they sell beer. Game time is Miller Time.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Celebrate responsibly, Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 96 calories, and 3.2 carbs per 12 ounces. You are listening to the Dan Levatar show, in partnership with the Drafkin Sports Act, now live in all 50 states. Amina L. Hassan will be here shortly. Trevor Lawrence has produced more touchdown since the start of the 2025 season than anyone other than Josh Allen and Matthew Stafford and the Jags have won 11 of their last 13th. Pretty good. So sloppy. That's fine. Win and loss record says what?
Starting point is 00:01:36 Yeah. Agreed. I just find them frustrating. Me too. They're talented enough to win everything. And I find them... Very frustrating. Well, no, they haven't been winning everything.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Oh, yeah. Okay, semantics. No, well, not semantics. The single greatest gambling loss of Mike Ryan's life is to Justin Erbert. The San Bocelie game. Rallying against the Jags because they can be sloppy and dumb. What if Trevor Lawrence was on the Eagles? So I have a number of things I want to get to,
Starting point is 00:02:01 including Zaslo is beefing with Mike and something happened with Laura Rutledge and we need to get to that and we need to get to a mean as well. But I wanted to circle back around on something where I didn't have my facts right last week and I just want to address this more thoroughly on the front end on something that happened and has been happening lately with Nick Saban as he turns himself into lobbyist for good with a propaganda arm that sells his past very strongly because everyone's interested in his past. But I was mentioning last week, and I'm going to let Dominic Foxworth speak for himself here on his own podcast. We'll play the clip in a second. But it's not just something that happened in or around Dominic Foxworth. Nick Saban was brought out on first take, and he was brought out on Get Up, and they cleared out their normal sets as they normally, as they sometimes do for important guests and made it a one-on-one where Nick Saban can control the conversation and say what he wants about the lobbying he's doing on behalf of the one-on-one. the following. Disney, part-owned by the NFL, sharing the next 10 years of television dollars with the players only so much. And in partnership, on the business of how are we going to split up
Starting point is 00:03:16 all this TV money when we know that Disney needs to control college football? It's the second biggest sport in America. And as I mentioned last week, you can argue Kurt Flood if you want. I can make an argument. I can assemble an argument that very quietly, the biggest sports labor dispute that there's ever been, 500,000 athletes is being decided right now quietly, and they're changing the set so that the television outfit, lined with football, can sell you whatever it is Nick Saban selling that involves lowering or curtailing or suppressing athlete wages, but not the wages of the power brokers who are getting all of these giant buyouts. So Dominique Foxworth talked about this because it didn't feel.
Starting point is 00:04:01 feel good to him, evidently, to be to the side of this as someone who I just told you last week, okay? What's happening in Major League Baseball and football, you got yellow unions. This is not leadership that is the past leadership of Foxworth and Saturday and Breeze and Brady. It's very quiet in football. What's being supported publicly by the TV arms is can football keep the minor leagues free? can the NFL through an antitrust extended to its minor league outfit? Can we keep it free with Sabin's help on television?
Starting point is 00:04:38 And so Dominique Foxworth started his show the next day saying the following. If anybody's talking about the Protect College Sports Act and they're talking about chaos in college sports or Olympic sports or salary caps or how to fix college sports or transfer rules, that is not important. they're talking about that, you need to get an answer to the original question, who is getting the power to make, enforce, and change any of the rules? Any conversation about any of that is kind of misdirection away from the core of this. The core of the Protect College Sports Act is about antitrust exemption. And honestly, it's about reinstating or reestablishing the power that the NCAA had in the past that the court system determined was illegal and an antitrust violation. They're looking to get antitrust exemption, the same exemption that professional sports leagues have because they're a professional sport.
Starting point is 00:05:34 But they're looking to get those exemptions without doing what professional sports teams have to do to maintain those exemptions. That's acknowledge that your players, our employees, and collectively bargain their agreement that you're going to play under. Patrick Mahomes, get your helmet out of your ass. Do some leading here as Breeze and Brady did. and Jeff Saturday did. You've got a lot of power. You made the commissioner of the league stand down on Kaepernick and racism
Starting point is 00:06:03 the moment that you said anything. You want to participate in the adult games or you just want to play football? What if Mahomes play for the dolphins? So Nick Sabin goes on television this weekend. I want to ask you something because we haven't taught college football and Alabama, Georgia was interesting
Starting point is 00:06:19 and doesn't matter at all. Meaningless game. Won't hurt Alabama at all if they win out. All they have to do is win out. You can't say that. It won't hurt them if they don't lose any more games. It helped them. Quality loss.
Starting point is 00:06:30 You can say that. Quality loss helped them. I could say the game doesn't matter. That result matters less than it ever has. It matters to the winner. Yeah. For the loser, it actually helps. I can say that that result, because of how what we've done of the playoffs,
Starting point is 00:06:45 that used to be a disqualifying result, no matter how close it was. Miami lost championships, plural, losing that game. But it could be the difference between getting a buy and not getting a buy. Now, when they expanded 24 teams, Okay, now it's not going to mean anything. No one wants that. Nick Sabin, before the game, I want to analyze what was done on screen because all the labor stuff I'm talking about doesn't matter as soon as your Saturdays start.
Starting point is 00:07:07 Nobody wants to talk about this stuff. It can somehow happen quietly because Nick Sabin's got five keys to the game before Georgia, Alabama. These are the things Kirby Smart must do. Number one, stop the run. Number two, affect the quarterback. Number three, no explosive plays. Number four, get off the field on third down. Number five, create turnovers.
Starting point is 00:07:23 It's legitimately something that I could use as my, top five for every football game that has ever been played. The good keys. Those are the keys to every football game that has ever been played. There's no sixth. Those are the five things. Nick Saban covered that as thoroughly as it could be covered. Probably put six win in the trenches. Not necessary. Those are your top five. O-L-I. Offensive linemen looking in. That's OLLI.
Starting point is 00:07:53 An expansion to 24 teams gets the likes of Oklahoma and Oregon in the CFP. That's what they want right there. They want those teams to still be in it. They want you to be watching those teams playing football in January. Dan Lanning, Arch Manning, or White Sox Fanning. Which one do you want to go with? Arch. Amin's there, though.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Do you want to do Texas, Oklahoma, or you want to do Arch? Because he's got the quarterback chromosome. People are saying that he's overrated. the mistake at the end of that game. You know what's funny every single time for the last, I'm going to say 10 years on Oklahoma, Texas? I always think that the team that's obviously going to win is obviously
Starting point is 00:08:34 going to win and the game is always closer than I think it's going to be always and very often I am wrong. Oklahoma's been bad this year. I thought they were going to bench their quarterback. They were talking about benching their quarterback. But it was good. But that series is so special. I remember Greg Cody said the other day. He said Yankees Red Sox is the best rivalry in sports still. And maybe it is. I just don't
Starting point is 00:08:57 think that baseball matters like that or like it used to. And when I think of this rivalry, Texas and Oklahoma. Red River rivalry. Thank you. Don't call it shootouts. Red River rivalry. I think I'm going to keep shootout. Nope. Don't say that. I will. Were you confused by that result or just that's how that's going to happen in the SEC because that, those two teams are going to play that game in whatever conference you put them in for the next 100 years. Didn't think Oklahoma were going to win. Did think it was going to be close. I'm not so surprised because we've been saying this for weeks now
Starting point is 00:09:30 that Texas is this Fugazi number one. So I don't think it's terribly surprising, no. And my big takeaway, Arch Manning, that's the number one overall pick. That's the number one overall pick. That's everyone's takeaway. That's been happening here for the last two seasons. I think it's valid.
Starting point is 00:09:47 AI isn't something that's coming five or ten years from now. Businesses are already using it every day and it's changing everything from the questions they ask to the decisions they make and even the routine work people don't have time for. Starting point is 00:10:47 NetSuite.com slash d'elb Going for two when you're up by five Switching the zone when man isn't working Oh and building your new stadium In the state your team actually plays in In sports, some things just make sense You know what else makes sense?
Starting point is 00:11:05 Drinking Yeagermeister shots Ice cold Drinking it any other way would be like Punting on first down Or letting your worst hitter bat first Or like going for two When you're down three with a second to go. It wouldn't make
Starting point is 00:11:19 any sense. So don't let the team down when it comes to Yeagermeister. Drink it cold. I don't drink it at all. Yeagermeister. Damn, that's cold. Drink responsibly. Yeagermeister liqueur. 35% alcohol by volume imported by master Yeagermeister U.S. White Plains, New York. Folks, listen up. You know what
Starting point is 00:11:38 nobody thinks about until it ruins your entire afternoon? Glare. You've got the TV exactly where you want it. You've got the couch. You're ready for seven straight hours of football. And then the Sun moves three inches and suddenly you're watching the game like this like, oh, I'm leaning, I'm squinting. I'm trying to figure, is that a touchdown?
Starting point is 00:11:56 And instead of fixing the actual problems, we'll just live with that. Yeah, around 4.15, you just can't see the TV. No problem. Yes, problem. That's insane. Your windows matter. The right window treatment can change the way a whole room looks, feels, and most importantly, whether you can actually see what you're watching.

That's blinds.com with code Dan. Dan Levatar. What is the worst part of the life?
Starting point is 00:12:44 Jonathan Sassel. The worst part of the life of what? This is the Dan Levitar show. Mino Hassan has popped in there, so let's change gears and let's do, oh, wow, that is from solitary confinement somewhere in a prison. Let's do weekend observations with Amino Hassan. Amin. To share his game notes. No one in the media will tell you what happened better than my voice.
Starting point is 00:13:20 Amin. Weekend observations is brought to you by Miller. light. Legendary moments start with a light. By the way, Dan, to answer your question from earlier about in the history of sports a mistake like that, Mario Cristobal not kneeling versus Georgia Tech. It was right there for all of you.
Starting point is 00:13:38 Yeah, but I mentioned that and then skipped past it. Not as dumb as this. Oh, I would disagree. Dan. I asked it. I was serious. So was the rest of the country.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Until yesterday. and I said, nope, and so did the rest of the country. They're not for real. Raiders got their ass took. They took that ass, Zaz. That's my game.
Starting point is 00:14:05 Drake May is great again. Yep, that's right. Malik Willis. Terrible. Every time I looked, he was running out of the pocket trying to throw some bulls ball fading. Every time, it's amazing.
Starting point is 00:14:22 Speaking of some bullshit, James. Jamis. Jamising. One play down the stretch, he overthrew the ball awfully in one direction, then complained for pass interference on the other side. You live with the Jamis, you die with the Jamis. Unless you're playing the Washington football team. What was the end of that game?
Starting point is 00:14:44 How did two teams not understand how overtime works? It's just dumb and dumber. Yep, there they go. Carlo Castro President of Resorts World Las Vegas believes the best landing spot for an NBA team in Vegas is on the North Strip No related story
Starting point is 00:15:05 I believe the best landing spot for Minka Kelly Is with me She's single now I don't know if you guys know that Are you? New York Knicks Yes she's single No best place is with me and the best one for an NBA team Is on the North Strip
Starting point is 00:15:21 Right where Resorts World is Wow! What a couple of California! Coincidence. Oh, well, I guess. I mean, there's just a lot of land around there. New York Knicks showing us even a championship can't stop you from being a screw-up. Dispending extension talks on Carl Anthony Towns. Cat.
Starting point is 00:15:41 Listen to me. Don't let them skimp you on a dime. They're playing this little game where it's like, oh, oh, you know, this is for the team. Nope. You get your money. Don't let these guys run games. on you. Hey Mike did you hear? Mike get the, who? Mike Ditka died. Say that three times fast. Well, Mike could have said it better so that the joke would have landed. I know.
Starting point is 00:16:06 The tough name to say fast, Dan, Mike Ditka died. It's not that hard. There it is. Barack Obama dropped an RIP post for Mike Ditka that I could never. What can I say I mean? I'm classy. You're not. Georgia Tech versus Duke. Never in doubt. And by never in doubt, I mean that Dan texted me. Are you watching Georgia Tech? And then I turned it on. You missed it?
Starting point is 00:16:38 You missed the ending to that game? The Duke kicker just flatly choked on a 33-yarder. You missed the end of that game? Why would I watch that game? Because you care about your school. When they're good. When they're good. Why is everyone so difficult for everyone to understand this?
Starting point is 00:16:55 I'll watch my teams. When they're good. You bear not. You beat the defending ACC champions of Manny Diaz because their choker at Duke choked it again. Choked again. I found out. Thanks you. You guys stole my thunder on this one, but is Archmanning good?
Starting point is 00:17:16 I ask this every week. And, like, guys, I mean, of course he is. And then I watch that game yesterday. And I hear a lot of people start to ask the same question I'm asking. Like, that's your number one pick? There's a, by the way, there's a very fascinating history if you guys go back. The last 25 years, the number one quarterback coming out of high school, very rarely turns into a good NFL quarterback or an NFL quarterback at all. So tread lightly.
Starting point is 00:17:42 Seems like a hard position to play. I mean, I'm just saying the number one ranked quarterback coming out of high school, one would think, yeah, I mean, they don't all turn into Hall of Famers, but surely they play in the NFL and I'm here to tell you, no, they don't. A lot of them don't, and the handful that do tend out to be very mediocre. There's a couple of Trevor Lawrence is an exception. There are a couple exceptions in there. But if you look at the last 25 years or 20, yeah, since 2000, go year by year. I'm telling you, you'll be shocked how many of those guys turned into nothing. Kyrie Irving, dropped 14 points in the first half against the Rockets in Macau.
Starting point is 00:18:24 Afterward, he left to go find the end of the earth because it's very far away from us. So it's the reason that if you kept going east, there it is. See, the way of flat earth works, apparently is like Pac-Man. If you go out in one way and you come back to the other way, right? That's why you end up in California if you keep going east. Not because, you know, Earth is round. Calabissier got cut. If you don't know who that is, clearly you haven't been paying attention
Starting point is 00:18:55 because he was in the NBA last year. Because I know who that is, and I didn't know he was in the NBA last year. And the year before that. Look at. There he is. That's two years ago. Him in the NBA. No clue.
Starting point is 00:19:11 White Sox blew a 2-0 lead. Proof that while the Pope might be a Sox fan, God most certainly isn't. They struck out 21 times. They're only 27 hours in the game. Like, how frustrating is that? Your team gets that far. Your team gets that far. You're watching your lineup, which hits home run, strike out 21 of 27 times.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Yeah. Cinephope episode 327, 30 minutes or less. Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari, and Michael Pena. This is the movie that answers the question. Can I put Danny McBride and Aziz Ansari and Michael Pena in a movie and have it not be funny? Spoiler alert. Yes. Just add Nick Swartzon.
Starting point is 00:20:02 Cynop, wherever you get podcasts. Vinny Jr. Didn't take the penalty during the World Cup. Got weird plastic surgery. Then got a red card for pulling a guy's hair in the La Liga match. No one is more ready for 2026 to end than Vinny Jr. It's just been an awful year for him. The Pistons.
Starting point is 00:20:26 Two preseason games. Two fights. It's like they're making up for the loss of Isaiah Stewart, who's now Memphis Chris. It's like, hey, we've got to keep the spirit alive. Jags beat the Eagles in London on a 57-yard field goal. Jags did soccer celebrations for all their scores. I don't know if you guys noticed that.
Starting point is 00:20:49 Well, Mike says they didn't at the end. Chris Cody was... No, they didn't do it properly if they were trying to do the Christiano. I just said what he was going for. It was pretty clear when he was going. He just extended it poorly. He didn't do the jumping spin. He didn't say that's what he was going for.
Starting point is 00:21:05 He did it poorly, Mike, because like most Americans who grew up playing soccer, doesn't know shit about the game. That's right. That's for you, soccer chat. F all of you guys. Wow. That was, that was necessary. He's got bona fides, seems.
Starting point is 00:21:21 Somehow the Eagles are having a worse year than Vinny Jr. 2026 has not been kind to the year. Eagles. Either there's a guy on Cincinnati named Sample or they're really skimping on the jerseys. Right? Isn't that the thing that you get? They're going on to Drew's sample for.
Starting point is 00:21:43 I'm just saying when you get a new design for a jersey, they send it to you to the team and they look at it and it usually says sample on the back to let them know. This is just a sample. And then somehow we got a guy who's actually like took that jersey, put it on and say, hey, I'm on the team. Here's the science, a bar rescue podcast. Hosted by Chelsea Reynolds, a real-life bar and restaurant consultant.
Starting point is 00:22:05 Colin Castert, a real-life veteran of the commercial kitchen and food truck seen in Portland. And two guys who would never skimp on jerseys. Me and Zach Harper. Here's the science wherever you get podcasts. Also, live watchalongs every Monday at 1 p.m. Eastern. Subscribe patreon.com slash count the dings. Being on the East Coast is exhausting. the way.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Midway through the third quarter of the Dolphins game, I realized there was like eight more hours of football to go. How? How do you guys do it? By like 3.30? I'm like, enough. I'm done. Because before last night's Ravens win with Tyler Huntley, teams had lost 581 straight games down eight plus points in the final minutes.
Starting point is 00:22:49 That's how we do it. No, that doesn't tell me anything because then I would have had to stay up to figure that out. You see the problem. Dan is at 3.30 I'm close to like tapping out. I only got a couple hours left in me. But you guys have a whole other slate of games before that
Starting point is 00:23:08 Ravens game. You want me to stay up to that? No way. No way. So glad I don't have to worry about CTE with Kams Gadaboo. No punchline, that's it. James Pumpfake passed the first down. Yeah, like seven yards past seven yards. I like it.
Starting point is 00:23:31 Passed the person. Who the hell was he? throwing off. It's a hell. Not going to hurt. Argentina. Those are the weekend observations. What was your Jamis line before that?
Starting point is 00:23:43 Your Jamis line earlier in weekend observations? James B. Jamiesing. And how, how, how? Okay, so first of all, tying his teammate shoelaces was one. Then he had the, he got into it with one of his wide outs on the sideline. And even though I couldn't hear the conversation, just the facial expressions he was making were just pure James. Then, of course, the pump fake
Starting point is 00:24:08 passed the first down. Then also the like throw it, like snap, I'm looking right, I throw right incomplete like, what about that pass interference over there? What are you talking about, buddy? It was just, it was a James ass game and it's, to be fair, fitting that it ended in a tie.
Starting point is 00:24:25 Because if he had won, I would have been like, what are we doing? I think you said you lived by the James, you die by the James, but they didn't. They're just, they tied. They tied. They tied. They tied. They tied. I said, you live by the You tie by the gym. Sign dog sounds familiar, similar, but no. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:24:39 I mean, appreciate the help. Appreciate all the football you threw into your observations. Out on the road, it's nice to have a partner who could help you make the most of your journey. A partner like the Love's Rewards app. With Love's Rewards Along for the Ride, you're in points on fuel, food, drinks, and more every time you scan. Then you can spend those points at Loves just like Cats. So every stop is even more rewarding. Download the app today and watch the points roll in mile after mile.
Starting point is 00:25:11 Love's rewards. Save and earn it every turn. Terms apply. See website for details. Tony, you know that moment at a party or a tailgate where everything just sort of clicks? I know it well. It's usually when I show up. Everybody goes crazy.
Starting point is 00:25:26 Yeah, you usually take all the credit for it. But it's because Tony usually walks in with Quervo. Walking like this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Quervo is a thing that turns. hanging out into this is the night. It has that effect on people. It does.
Starting point is 00:25:39 You usually take the credit for it. But again, it's the Cuervo effect. It's like that moment in a big game where everyone in the crowd just starts standing up, hooting and hollering. Keep it quervo. Keep it quervo, baby. Ah, folks, listen up.
Starting point is 00:25:55 You wouldn't want an offense alignment to play wide receiver, would you? No, you wouldn't. You need the right person. You need the right equipment for the job. That applies to football, and it definitely applies below the waist. That's where the lawnmower lineup from Manscape comes in.
Starting point is 00:26:10 Trusted by over 14 million men worldwide, the lawnmower go is slim, sporty, and straightforward. Or if you like your grooming tools fully loaded, there's the all-new lawnmower Ultra Gen 6 engineered with a premium alloy body. Both are waterproof for easy cleanup and feature skin-safe technology to reduce the nix and cuts. Because that is one injury, folks. Nobody wants to explain.
Starting point is 00:26:33 Find Manscape. and the lawnmower lineup today at Target and CVS. Dan Levitar. John, can you rate my Al Pacino from that billiard scene in Carlito's way if I do it for you? I think it's pretty good. Yeah. Jonathan Sassel. You think you're big time?
Starting point is 00:26:50 But you're going to die. Big time. It is on my infamous scale of one to ten. That's a 7.6. Solid. Good job. Good job. That's a sui nominee right there.
Starting point is 00:27:10 This is the Dan Levitare show. What do you think was the cruelest way to lose yesterday? Because the commanders, the commanders' giants feels like a loss, but there's nobody losing there. It feels like everyone lost, but nobody lost. What did you think was the cruelest way to lose, says, the team that hurts the most today? Can I use college? Sure. Yeah, Texas, Oklahoma.
Starting point is 00:27:47 Texas losing like that after being the number one overall team, that to me was the toughest way to lose, especially because Archmanning essentially gave the game away in the fourth quarter pick six, and then instead of driving down the field gives up a really bad interception, Texas to me. The Packers winner, the Bears lose. Some tough calls in Alabama, Georgia, too. Yeah. I mean, that game was there for Alabama. A couple calls go differently.
Starting point is 00:28:10 A couple brain farts go differently. Because I was going to nominate the way the Eagles lost. and the reason I was going to nominate it is because what their weak was, right? The offensive line has been the strength of the team. They had an unstoppable play. They are sore – their quarterback is under it, and all they did during the broadcast was winner, poised, knows how to win, misses the giant throw. Okay, I told you before that Jacksonville defense is menacing. Made Deshawn Watson look incompetent, made Drake May look incompetent.
Starting point is 00:28:42 It's a very violent defense. put a herding on the Bengals, and then yesterday, Jalen Hertz, with what I'm going to keep saying, is only wearing the uniforms of the Philadelphia Eagles. That's not the Philadelphia Eagles. That's the broken remains of a champion. When I talk about that sport and how hard it is to win in that sport, okay, I can assemble an argument that the San Francisco 49ers over the last decade are better run than anyone in that sport, and they've won nothing.
Starting point is 00:29:12 They are very well run. that they won yesterday is a really hard game to win. They're undefeated again, even though they too are injured because that sport breaks all of its parts. Eagles crumbling to the ground with a groan when they've been the dynasty. With that quarterback back there trying to do something when they've got more three and outs than anyone in the league, and that's not a professional football team around him on offense as like that's the remains of a professional football team. and Kelsey said something on the broadcast, like, and that's their fourth string center because, you know, or the fourth stringer because one guy's in Baltimore and the other two guys are hurt. It's just the offensive linemen that they can put out there, which in no way resemble the most violent team in the sport.
Starting point is 00:29:59 That team, what that team would do was like a bunch of farm equipment mowing over harvests because their offensive line made Nick Foles an MVP of the Super Bowl. yet they're one game back in the NFC's. Yeah, and also they had 12 years. It's good. You know, that's what happens. You don't get to be that dominant along the line of scrimmage between different head coaches and different quarterbacks and get to reshape your team, win a Super Bowl one time,
Starting point is 00:30:27 get to another one, and then win it again. So what's happening to them is football, everyone deals with it. You highlighted San Francisco, they've had tougher fortune. That was a tough game for Jalen Hertz in particular because that win at the end and having that moment when that's his reputation, that was tough because he was missing some throws and then he gave you the drive that you needed and now we're back to narrative talk. Why don't they kick the ball out of the end zone?
Starting point is 00:30:50 I don't understand. Like now granted, I don't know the rules of the kickoffs. I already explained that. I don't know where you get the ball, but I know you're not returning it to the inside the 40 in the other territory. Well, that criticism is the criticism that is the reason that Nick Siriani is saying I lost that game. But I did want to ask you guys what your assessment was. because Mike Tomlin is a star and he's great at speaking plainly
Starting point is 00:31:16 and at the end of that game he said to that criticism now you kind of have to cover kicks correctly and punts correctly in this league there haven't been a lot of returns like that all season anywhere across the sport you gave one up with seven seconds left you need to execute Mike Tomlin
Starting point is 00:31:36 isn't saying what you're saying everyone else is saying what you're saying Siriani's taking blame for the loss because of what it is that you're saying. But Mike Tomlin is saying, no, if you have a unit that stops kick returns, you got it with seven seconds left, not allow them to get to your own 40-yard line. Also, by the way, quiet as it's kept when I say that that game was a dumb-off. Leon Cohen let 20 seconds blow off the clock with timeouts just because he wasn't paying attention or didn't know the time management.
Starting point is 00:32:04 Like, for that guy to be the winner today, Siriani is winning an all-time dumb-off, and it wasn't even the dumbest game or the ending of the day in football. Obviously, what Tomlin says there is true, but why even give them a chance to return the kick? Why? Because you want them not to even be at the 35-yard line with the ability with that kicker to kick a 70-yard field goal. That kicker, that kicker, that game was altered so much by their long snapper. Like the fact that quietly, no one's talking about, they figured it out at the, they figured it out at the end and they got a 57-yard field goal with seven seconds left. When's the last time you saw a holder have to do that three times in a game?
Starting point is 00:32:46 Get up on his feet to catch where the snap was. When's the last time you saw that? Like to lose that game, you don't, look, man, little is an enormous weapon. He can kick a field. They're going to try a field goal from their own 45-yard line. They're on 40-yard line. That's all they've got to do is get to the 40-yard line in order to try a game-winning field goal.
Starting point is 00:33:07 I'm warming up to the kickoff rules and the strategy that a lot of different teams implement that maybe they should have revisited. I know it's a skill thing, but these dirty balls that teams use on the kickoff that are really difficult to handle probably would have helped in that situation. I understand the question, especially with that leg on the opposite side line.
Starting point is 00:33:25 You don't want to get the touchback. But the fact that we're actually applying some kind of tactics here in the final seconds, that's kind of what the NFL was going for. Dan, to Mike Tomlin's point, good kickoff coverage you think tackles the return of where. My larger point, while I understand your criticism, look, Siriani's saying my fault, so he agrees with you. We've never had a weapon like the weapon that Jacksonville has a kicker at kicker in that league. All you got to do is get to your 40-yard line and he'll try one.
Starting point is 00:34:00 Like, they'll try from 75, you know, and that would have been exactly the spot where you would have seen a 77-yard attempt or something assonine, and you had to guard against it at the end. You fear that kicker. It's a weapon unlike anything the sport has ever seen. But that's the case whether you allow them to receive the kick or kick it out of the back of the end. Like, where do you think the kick coverage is going to talk about 10? Like, you probably get to the 25. I know. It doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:34:26 I'm just telling you why they didn't do it. You're at, you asked me why they didn't do it. And I'm telling you why they didn't do it. They didn't want them to be able with one play to get to the 40-yard line, their own 40-yard line. I'm going to come out against player safety here, but I know you're frustrated with the really long field goals and that being a thing, and that you can have seven seconds and turn a loss into a win. I think that we've done too much player safety things on kicks. Of course.
Starting point is 00:34:51 In terms of not being able to leap over the center, like, what are we doing there? There are certain things that you can do that don't allow for these kickers. to have such a low trajectory because we're going back to the way that it was. I know that there's a catch-all when it comes to player's safety, but I think we're doing a little too much there. Dan, I have another submission for a person who feels the worst after a loss this weekend. Justin Herbert, I'm going to put up a picture of the still of the last throw he threw. Such a bad pass.
Starting point is 00:35:19 It was three Broncos around one charger who was six yards away from where the pass ended up. He's been terrible. How's that Mike McDaniel's fault? It's not. But that's why I said Justin Herbert. Mike McDaniels had the zone situation. I get it. But, you know, Mike McDaniels probably going to get fired.
Starting point is 00:35:35 How is that Mike McDaniel's fault? I don't understand what we're seeing out of Justin Herbert this season. And I think, like, top down, there's a lot of coaches that messed up this season. Because this flatly, yesterday makes a little bit more sense. They miss out on some guys that could have helped them against a really tough defense. But 0 and 5 from a team that was a very sexy AFC champion pick, this is bad. Let me examine the parts of this game. game that are worth examining because there's still a ton to talk about and college football
Starting point is 00:36:04 had a bunch of things that were interesting. We don't actually have enough show to talk about all, because I'm only on 173. I've got 173 more. That game, the Chargers were winning headed in the fourth quarter, 1710, had no business being in that position given how decimated their offensive line and their skill guys are. But this is not an excuse for Herbert because he lost the game. He lost the game by being careless with the football. He needed to play. Bo Nix was not going to win that game. All you needed to do was trust your defense in that game. And Justin Herbert had the turnovers. You absolutely cannot have, but he wasn't going to drive down the field at the end of the game. 17 was their max on the number of points they were going
Starting point is 00:36:47 to score because they got a 50-yard run. But let's hear from Jim Harbaugh. I don't know how much I don't know how much more Jim Harbaugh or Dion Sanders we're going to get from the coaching profession at their present stops. When you're only five, what is the message that works, you know, that kind of gets through or is there one? Yeah, I don't know what that message is the, it's just in the, you know, the players that just fight their hearts out, you know, play, give it everything they have. That's the only way.
Starting point is 00:37:28 that's the best way, but yeah, that's... That's a dark place. Yo, got nothing. That's a dark place. What's happening in his head right there is darkness. It's just sweeping, whistling winds of darkness. Yesterday was a bad day for me. I might not know anything about football.
Starting point is 00:37:50 I mean, it wasn't that long ago that I said Harbaugh's best coach, and, I mean, he's in his own five. And I had Tua under half a game ever played for the Atlanta NFL. Look, we had the gators turning in and around, and they haven't had a good snap since. But I'm just telling you that sound we played, what's happening in Jim Harbaugh's head is just waves crashing across rocks. Like, there's nothing in there. What do you tell your team? What do you tell your team?
Starting point is 00:38:18 Look, man, I am lost in the solitary confinement of my own imprisoned darkness. I got nothing. I'm looking around and I'm like, I got Mike McDaniels. He doesn't even wear his pants right. Like, I can't do anything with what I got. it's in black and white, it like physically looks like the lighthouse. It's a great shout.
Starting point is 00:38:35 I told you this act wasn't going to fly winless. It just gets more and more weird from here. But if you were watching the end of that game, Mike, the problem is like this is, this. Chris is asking a good question. Does any act fly winless? Chouche. But here's what I'm going to say.
Starting point is 00:38:52 That one's the worst act. That act is worse at all of them. No, there's no. There's no. No, oh, and five. I think there's an act that flies. Dan Campbell, interim Miami Dolphins head coach, Dan Campbell. It was flying.
Starting point is 00:39:04 It was flying. Okay, you can come in for a couple of games and talk your way into 0-and-7, but it can't be winless. Like, there's not an act that flies on winless. I think there are acts that fly. Five one. Guys, Belichick didn't fly. At 0-and-5, your season's over.
Starting point is 00:39:22 Like, your season has ended. Everyone else has more season left. Your season's over. And the other thing is, guys, if you want, watched the end of that game. Like, football almost happened for three quarters of that game. Football almost happened. And then in the fourth quarter,
Starting point is 00:39:39 Justin Herbert was lucky he did not have 17 fumbled because he was just really reckless with the football. All of them hitting off of players, one butt, one cleat. It was like a Mickey Mouse, like clubhouse out there. It was like, he drops back and the ball's this way. It's going off that way. By the way, I want to stop for a second. I want to, like, there's one guy in that game who has absolute balls.
Starting point is 00:39:59 And it's Mike McDaniel, who at 0 and 5 continues to wear these foolish glasses. If I was Jim Harbaugh and I saw some of the plays that were being called and I looked over the sidelines, and I saw Mike McDaniel with those glasses, I would have walked up to him, ripped them off his head and broken them over my knee. Did you say balls? Give me the imaging. I don't believe that's the biggest balls of the weekend. Give me the whole imaging. Balls.
Starting point is 00:40:35 The balliest. of balls. Balsy. Oh, the balls that took. Cojones. Balls. Ballin it. It's time for the ballziest move of the weekend.
Starting point is 00:40:54 Balls. Any nominees? It can't be... Get pain a Dan. You're on the silence. Your own five. You're terrible. They're going to fire your ass.
Starting point is 00:41:03 I mean... And you have the gall to wear those glasses. Those glasses. O and four? Oh, and five. Take them off and kill them. He entered that game, oh and four. Like, you've got to have different glasses.
Starting point is 00:41:16 So Justin Herbert in the fourth quarter this season, a 55% completion with zero touchdowns. Four interceptions and 11 sacks taken. I told you last week, his passer rating, you'd be better off if you just spike the ball on every single play. Like Trevor Lawrence did when they got two delay of games in a row on first and goal at the one. and he got frustrated and he spiked the ball. Also, how about this? How about this? This tweet from Sun Sentinel reporter, David Fulronis.
Starting point is 00:41:45 In the end, the Dolphins won the 2020-to-Herbert decision because they already moved off their pick. The Chargers still stink with Herbert. That's not as big as... Jeremy's got one. The balls of Will Stein, Kentucky, Kentucky LSU. You're going for two-point conversion when you've got LSU on the ropes, and you give America the greatest thing in college football,
Starting point is 00:42:12 which is Sauer Lane Kiffin-Hurtface, right? That's replaced wanting Nick Saban to lose as the thing that you hate watching on your football weekends. No hot seat. Two losses already. First week in October, he's already lost two conference games. You admit you don't know football. Stop.
Starting point is 00:42:30 You know there was an NLCS game last night. And in that game, it doesn't end in the win for the Dodgers. but in the bottom of the eighth inning with runners on first and second Dave Roberts intentionally walked Andrew Vaughn to load the bases because he liked the matchup against Garrett Mitchell and he got the ground out to end the inning
Starting point is 00:42:50 keeping it to 1. Balls! Why is he yelling? I think I deserve. I had balls this weekend because I went out on Friday night for Mike's birthday and this domino, this domino.
Starting point is 00:43:05 Mike was doing this weird. thing is a weird king for his birthday he wanted me to eat a slap which i was willing to do but domino did it very disrespectfully we have it here as opposed to the respectful slaps oh i thought you ate that one i almost ate it oh man it hurt and i took a shot of quervo to ease the pain how good was that was sings fields of gold skewing right after the slap and then you could see what i look like i looked like wilson from castaway after how did you nominate you yourself for balls of the week. You nominated yourself? You wouldn't ask an offensive lineman to play wide receiver. You need the right person and the

Starting point is 00:44:39 Tony, you know that moment at a party or at tailgate where everything just, sort of clicks. I know it well. It's usually when I show up. Everybody goes crazy. Yeah, you usually take all the credit for it, but it's because Tony usually walks in with Quervo. Walking like this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Quervo is a thing that turns hanging out into this is the night. It has that effect on people. It does. You usually take the credit for it. But again, it's the Quervo effect. It's like that moment in a big game where everyone in the crowd just starts standing up, hooting and hollering. Keep it Quervo. Keep it, quervo, baby.
