Starting point is 00:00:38 It takes more God bless football. Billy Gill? God bless football, StuGuts. Thank you, Billy. We have a nice trip coming up this weekend. You and I together going on vacation. Me and you to Chicago, courtesy of our friends over at Smirnoff. I'm very excited Yes, we're slowly traveling the country together Stu gots. We're seeing all these different cities going around the world I'm not really the world. It's really just the u.s. We should do an international thing. Like let's go to the Caribbean Let's tell Smirnoff. Hey, you know what? We want to cover week five of the NFL, but we want to do it from Barbados, All right. I mean, I don't know. I mean, this weekend would have been, I'm happy to go to Chicago.
Starting point is 00:01:29 I'm happy to go do what we're doing, but it would have been a good weekend to try that out in England for the Sam Dornel revenge game against the Jets. Yeah. You know what? Yeah. Wow. Would you have gone to England? No.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Oh, okay. I would have gone to, with you, I would have gone to England. Yes. I would have gone there with you. I would have gone to England. Yes, I would have. Really? Yeah. Why? Because it'd be fun.
Starting point is 00:01:51 That's why. What would we have done in England? Watch football. I don't know. Same thing I do here. I don't know why I have to go all the way to England, another continent to do it, but it just seems fun. What would we do?
Starting point is 00:02:01 I don't know. What do you do in London? Like shopping, have some food, drink some beers, you know? Yeah, you mentioned it earlier, but guys, God bless football is presented by Smirnoff. We do game days. Please drink responsibly. The Smirnoff Company, New York, New York.
Starting point is 00:02:16 If you're going to be in the Chicago area, you can come hang out with us for the Bears and the Panthers game and really all the games. We're going to be there at noon on Sunday. So come on by Joe's on weed if you want to see us live in Chicago, kind of putting on a show for you guys throughout the game. And I guess you gots, you're already going to be reacting to the London game between the Vikings and your jets. Yeah, I'll be there early because I'm assuming Mikey A will be there with me,
Starting point is 00:02:40 but the jets play the Vikings. I'm going to watch that game. We'll have the, we'll have the one o'clock games for you, Carolina and Chicago, which is noon central out in Chicago. But I'm excited, Billy. I'm going to show you the town, man. That's my town. Chicago is like my second home. The Windy City is it.
Starting point is 00:02:54 Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Don't look now. New game. Don't look now. We're a quarter of a way through the NFL season. How did this happen?
Starting point is 00:03:03 How are we by week five already? I don't know. It's a sprint, man. It really is. I would say baseball takes forever to get through its regular season, and football just flies by, man. It really does. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Baseball also, like, it's crazy because, like, half the teams that made the playoffs are already eliminated from the playoffs after two days. I know. I know. Yeah. When is baseball going to figure out? God bless baseball.. When is baseball going to figure out God bless baseball, but what is baseball going to figure out that they need to shorten the regular season and expand the postseason? Because those are the games we care about.
Starting point is 00:03:33 That's it. Period. End of discussion. More postseason games. Major league baseball. Yeah. Well, uh, okay. No one cares about that today here though. This is God Bless Football. We have a lot to get to. We have Chris Simms who's going to join us. We have Mike Golick who's going to join us. We have your Stu Gottz picks. We have Terrell Davis who's going to join us, which is exciting. A Hall of Famer. How many Hall of Famers have we had on this show? We had Bisselli. We've had Terrell Davis now. There's a lot. We've had a lot of Hall of Famers on the show.
Starting point is 00:04:05 I don't have the number off the top of my head. Fuentes, do you have a number off the top of your head? I don't. Not Golic and not Chris Simms. Not Golic, not Simms. Hall of Famers in our hearts. Yes. Well, Golic's in a wrestling Hall of Fame
Starting point is 00:04:17 and the radio Hall of Fame, so if you count those. I meant to run an idea by you, Billy, okay? And I'm certain you have to promote our daily fantasy game over at DraftKings here in a second. We'll get to Gullick. We'll get to Sims. We'll get to all the football analysis in a second. I want a God bless football Hall of Fame. How about that? You like that? We have a ceremony every year. I think it would be great. I really do. Do we let the like one person in
Starting point is 00:04:43 every year? Is it based on how they perform that year or what? How does our Hall of Fame work? I think commitment to the show. Do we let the like one person in every year? Is it based on how they performed that year or what? How's our Hall of Fame? I think commitment to the show loyalty to the show doesn't matter what they do on the field or if they
Starting point is 00:04:55 were great on the field, it matters what they do for us and so I'm thinking like, yeah, right. So I'm thinking, you know Mojo his commitment to the show. That's a guy that I can see getting into the Hall of Fame. We got to figure this out. It's just an idea. I'm laying the groundwork. We probably need a committee, and then we need an enshrinement ceremony. Yeah. Well, we also need like an award, right? Like we need our own jacket, our own like bust or whatever. Like we need something to give the
Starting point is 00:05:18 person. And I feel like, and there has to be a number, right? Like, I don't know if it's one, maybe only two people get in every year, but? Like, I don't know if it's one, maybe only two people get in every year but it can't be like everybody because then what's going to happen? Like, okay, we're going to enshrine Golick and we're going to enshrine Chris Sims and we're
Starting point is 00:05:34 going to enshrine and then like everybody that's expecting to get in is going to get in. You know what I mean? Like, I would nominate. I would nominate Mattress Mack. Oh, wow. He's been great. You're right. First ballot Hall of Famer. No, I am totally. Only one appearance though been great. You're right, first ballot Hall of Famer.
Starting point is 00:05:45 No, I am totally- Only one appearance though. Yeah, but it was a Hall of Fame appearance. I mean, was it not? I like the idea of giving them golden headphones. How about that? Oh, golden microphones. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Well, headphones I think might be cheaper. Microphones we use are kind of expensive and then we're gonna spray paint them gold. Ooh, wait, how about this? Okay, new idea. I don't know why we're doing this. New idea. Every year we have a Hall of Famer and they get the golden microphone so every time they join us they're on their golden microphone Hall of Fame but the next year when someone else gets in they get the golden microphone. Yes, yes I love it it. All right. Did you, did you mention our weekly fantasy game because it's presented by. Smirnoff, you guessed it.
Starting point is 00:06:30 The world's number one vodka. Please drink responsibly. If you guys want to compete against us, $3 buy-in go to dkng.co slash Smirnoff. Get your picks in before 1 PM Eastern on Sunday, and you can compete against us. One o'clock games, four o'clock games and sugas. We need to set a mental note. We need to get our picks in by 12 o'clock Central time on Sunday because we're going to be in a different time zone for the first time. So we can't dilly dally. We need to get those picks in earlier this week. Yeah, I know. It's my home away from home. You know I didn't mention the Daily Fantasy game and you still promoted it
Starting point is 00:07:02 anyway. I mean, you said it earlier. I did. Who would you put in? Wait, wait, real quick before we go to Golic, who would you nominate? Like who would be your nominee for the Hall of Fame this year? This is a great question for the God Bless Football Hall of Fame. Fuentes. Who would be your...
Starting point is 00:07:20 No, it's not Fuentes. Okay. Billy's right. You got to drag this on. You don't just let Golic in and Simms in the same year. You want to create a buzz. would be your, no, it's not Fuentes, okay? Billy's right, you gotta drag this on. You don't just let Golick in and Sims in the same year. You wanna create a buzz. You gotta keep Golick or Sims waiting,
Starting point is 00:07:31 much the way the NFL Hall of Fame kept Tony Baccelli waiting, Fuentes, who do you think should be? Think of all the people we've had on the show. It should not be Golick, it should not be Sims. They should not be part of the first class. They have to wait. Yeah. I would put Golick in the first class. They have to wait. Yeah. I would put Golic in the first class.
Starting point is 00:07:46 He's just so nice. I would say strong nominee, Nitro. Oh wow. Ooh. Strong nominee. Nitro. Nitro. Wow.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Wow. Or Mike Wright perhaps? Mike Wright for putting up with the Nitro question. I was thinking of Mike Golic Jr. going in first. I was thinking K-Funk. No. Going in first I was thinking kfunk No, kfunk can never get in the end of it I put in like Mike Rollins before kfunk and he's been on two episodes
Starting point is 00:08:19 Lacey oh The AC company that you know what? That might be our first. If you don't know who Lacey is, Lacey is a bartender at a strip club in Tampa who also owns an air conditioning company. She made two appearances on the show. They were glorious appearances. That is how we introduce the Gobbler's football hall of fame because she is what our show is all about. And don't forget Mrs. Schefter. Oh, Mrs. Schefty.
Starting point is 00:08:46 Oh, yeah. But also Lacey now lives in Canada, and I think we've lost access to her. Right. So Mrs. Schefter is a good one. And Mr. Schefter's leg. Oh, OK. I like it. It's a good Hall of Fame. Thank you. All right. Really shaping up. It is. It's it's something we discussed and we'll never finish.

Starting point is 00:10:00 making one last attempt at glory in the ring. But to make it to Fight Night, they must confront a mysterious underworld organization, raising the stakes to life or death. La Machina premieres October 9th, streaming on Hulu. I made this comment the other day. People looked at me like I was crazy. Is it fair to say, even though they're two and two, and perhaps I'm being prisoner of the moment because they blew out the Buffalo Bills, but is it fair to say the Baltimore Ravens might be the best team in the NFL? I don't think it's crazy to say that. I mean, I understand what you're saying there. And again, the Vikings have played the best football through four weeks, right? So I don't think that's in doubt.
Starting point is 00:10:48 But when you see the Ravens at their best, I go, oh, their best is as good as anybody else my eye looks at, right? So I think they're in that conversation. And hopefully they figured something out here again. That's the big thing. Continue to run the ball like they have two weeks in a row. This might be the week where we finally see Lamar Jackson throw for 375 because
Starting point is 00:11:12 the Bengals can't stop the run and I guarantee they're going to go, we're going to lose definitely if we don't slow down Derrick Henry in the run game. So let's take our chances with maybe losing in the pass game. I think that game is going to be a shootout. I do because I think the Bangos offense is real damn good too, but yeah, I don't think what you're saying is crazy. I wouldn't say they're the best team. I wouldn't say that, but I think that at their best, they're certainly in that conversation. So you think the Vikings so far through four
Starting point is 00:11:40 games have been the best team in the NFL. It's hard to argue. I mean, I yeah, it just it's every week. It's perfect execution, explosive plays, running and throwing on the offensive side of the ball and brilliant game plans and turnovers by the defense every week. So they've played the best. Now, do I think their talent level is the best and all of that? No, I'm not saying that, right? But either way, they've played the cleanest and the most consistent through four weeks. And I don't think there's much arguing there. What did you make of the Devonte Adams news?
Starting point is 00:12:09 And where do you think Devonte Adams should go? Yeah, that's going to be an interesting one. I'm not surprised at all. I mean, I think everybody saw this. Teams called the Raiders all offseason to trade for Devonte Adams. And why they didn't trade them I don't know. Did they think they were in the Super Bowl
Starting point is 00:12:28 window or something? Because like you're not in the Super Bowl window in Las Vegas Raiders. Thank you. News break. So and and now that they want to trade them now they're gonna get way less than what they would have got if they traded them in the offseason. I mean the offseason it it could have been multiple second round picks and other picks. Now it's like, wait, we're going to get them for nine games and then we don't know if we're going to have them next year. And he's got a huge cap number and we don't necessarily, let's see if we want to sign them into an extension.
Starting point is 00:12:57 So that's going to lower the value, certainly. But I'm not shocked by this at all. And you know, as far as where to go and what makes sense. Yeah, I Know it's tough. It will Kansas City. I just won like we know Kansas City needs a receiver Yeah, okay, but like are they gonna the arch rival? They're gonna the Raiders gonna trade it to their longtime arch rail rival I can't see that happening Chris Chris. Right, exactly right. OK, the Jets, we all look at that. The Jets are already in a drama session up here,
Starting point is 00:13:31 because Garrett Wilson's already unhappy. Because, you know, as I've told you a million times, Aaron Rodgers wants to throw 74 slants every game. So, oh, now he's going to not throw it to Garrett Wilson and throw more to Devonte Adams? I mean, they're just asking for problems of that. Dallas isn't good enough or in a Super Bowl window to merit. Why would you trade for Devonte Adams?
Starting point is 00:13:52 You guys don't have enough money, and you need picks to build your team for the future. Is there any other team that's an obvious out there that I'm missing off the top of my head? I feel like there was one more team that's probably. Maybe Washington. probably maybe Washington. Oh, Washington. That, that I could see being a possibility.
Starting point is 00:14:10 That is one that I look at to be like, oh, that's very real. You can maybe build for the future with that guy. They might be okay paying him money next year and doing that. He fits their scheme of kind of short to intermediate passing game. They do. They are better than I expect. Like Washington's the one to me that I think makes the most sense when you take on both sides and what's going on there. When does Jaden Daniels start looking like a rookie Chris Hems?
Starting point is 00:14:35 Never. I don't know. You know, I know we hit on it last week, right? The fact that he's in the same offense as college football, I think is a great advantage. He is a superior talent as you both are seeing. His decision making is really damn good and that's partly because hey, they're coaching him good and he's comfortable in the offense, right? The
Starting point is 00:14:56 other thing is his demeanor, his calmness is remarkable for somebody his age. And I think I said this to you guys last week, either way I said it on my podcast this week, Washington can run the ball. I give Cliff Kingsbury a lot of credit because he went back to the lab and was like, wait, I gotta be more than just this Red Raider spread offense, right? I gotta do something more.
Starting point is 00:15:20 Everybody catches onto my offense every year. And there are more formations and they are running the ball on just about everybody They play so I don't think it's gonna like fall off like totally Billy I don't think it's gonna be like oh man that now he's throwing two interceptions a game and now he's looking like the rookie We thought he would he's gonna make mistakes. I get that but I think it's gonna still stay Pretty damn consistently good. I don't think it's going to stay to the level it is right now because it's some
Starting point is 00:15:48 remarkably good right now, but I don't see a big fall off Billy. Uh Chris, just going back to Devante for a second, just two teams. Like what do you think about Buffalo? Because a lot of people. Buffalo is another one. Yes, right. But a
Starting point is 00:15:58 lot of people feel like Josh Allen's better off without having a true number one wide receiver. I mean. I I you know, I don't agree with that. I I don't I don't agree with that agree with that You know, the argument is is Stefan Diggs a number one receiver, right? That's the argument I mean he went to a new team and he's the number two receiver right away So there there there we go right again. That's part of the reason of weight you're complaining, but you're not a number one You're not a superstar. Nobody's doubling you we can't just line you up sad and just go beat that guy
Starting point is 00:16:23 But you act like you want the ball all the time and do that, which we all know. That's the facts of the matter. Stefan Diggs did that in Minnesota and Buffalo. I'm not telling anything that's not the truth there. So no, he would be better off with the number one. He definitely would be. And I worry about that aspect for the Bills.
Starting point is 00:16:39 I'm not sold on the Bills offense yet. I'm sold on one guy that's one of the greatest quarterbacks I've ever seen in my life and Josh Allen. But like when they play high quality defenses like we saw last week and all of a sudden they can't run the ball a little bit, you see and go, oh, wait, now they can't rely on the pass game because it's too tight ends
Starting point is 00:16:58 and other guys that are solid but not game breakers that way. So that'd be one that I certainly could think of be a possibility too. Washington Buffalo, those are the two top ones you got. I almost feel like the Jets have to do it just because they're all in with Aaron Rodgers. Like these guys like Salah and Joe Douglas, their jobs are on the line here this season.
Starting point is 00:17:17 And if you're gonna go all in on Aaron and Aaron wants the Vonte Adams, you kind of have to do what you have to do to get the Vonte Adams, right? I mean, they've obviously listened to Aaron Rodgers a lot, right? I mean, come on. Robert Sala made a comment about the cadence on Sunday, and I guarantee Aaron Rodgers talked to him right after he made that comment or the next morning. And the next day he's like, Oh, there's no problem with the cadence. Everything's good. Rodgers told me it's all good. So I'm
Starting point is 00:17:41 listening. He's good. It's all good. I mean, yeah, he's running the organization in a lot of ways right now, because of all the things you said, it's all good. So I'm listening. He's good. It's all good I mean, yeah He's running the organization in a lot of ways right now because of all the things you said it's only a gear or two They're gonna have them. They want to make it work. So I mean, I'm certainly not saying it's not a real possibility Sure I'm just saying I'd be careful if I are the Jets because I think I mean you saw Garrett Wilson's comments, right this week He's going our offense doesn't do anything. I watch other offenses. If I did a deep dive in the Denver defense in that game last week against the Jets right Aaron Rodgers first off did not play well. I mean it was not good. He was awful. Yes. Yes. It was bad and then if I was Garrett Wilson coming away from that game I would have been like I don't
Starting point is 00:18:22 think my quarterback likes me. I would think the same thing. He has six or seven plays where I know that offense, he is the first read and he's open and Aaron Rodgers good like barely gives him a look and goes to somebody else. I thought that was very weird in my studies this week. Billy, I love the idea of quarterbacks playing favorites, guys they like, guys they don't like. They do though. They definitely do. Wait, hold on, hold on,'t like. They do though. They definitely do.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Wait, hold on, hold on, hold on. Thank you Billy. Just between us friends, Chris, who's someone you liked and who's someone you didn't like? Gosh, well I mean, I felt like Joey Galloway I had a connection with, right? We spent so much time on and off the field and watching football and Monday night football to where in any big moment I always felt really comfortable with him, right? So like, yeah, I favored him. Oh wait, this guy's got the same coverage as that guy?
Starting point is 00:19:17 I mean, one, he's Joe, it's Joey Galloway and he runs for one. And two, I've got the most amount of reps with him and feel the best about him and reading his body language and two I've got the most amount of reps with him and feel the best about him and reading his body language and how we'll run the round and all that so that would be one for sure I don't have one that's glaring that I would say that jumps out to me where I go I didn't like it you know there was guys through times where it took more to read their body language and how they came out of breaks and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:19:51 So there was a few guys that way. But nobody that's popping to me that I just go, oh, I don't like throwing to him. I'm going to not go that way. But that does happen. And I didn't play enough in the NFL for it to probably happen to me quite to the extent that it would to a guy that plays a long time. I think me and Billy are thinking about a guy you just didn't
Starting point is 00:20:09 like off the field and it didn't matter how wide open he was he wasn't getting the ball from Chris Hems. Yeah who'd you hate? Yeah who'd you hate the most? I was never I was never a hate guy I mean gosh teammates I you know I would tell you yeah but listen your dad definitely favored Phil McConkey and Mark Bavaro. There's no question about it. He did, he did. 100%, I mean, definitely Mark Bavaro.
Starting point is 00:20:34 That I would tell you for sure, 100%. You know, McConkey, I think there was definitely a little bit of a comfort level there, but I don't know if I want to say he favored. I mean, guys like Lionel Manuel, right? Oh yeah. Pretty damn good and and I think he had a good connection with as well.
Starting point is 00:20:51 But Vovaro definitely got in the in the trust tree. I know. I'm trying to think of of somebody out there that I'm missing uh and to give you guys a real real honest answer here. Um but the more interesting thing is Chris, no, that's okay if you think of it but the more interesting thing is, Chris, that's okay.
Starting point is 00:21:05 You think of it, but the more interesting thing is, is you are flatly telling us it happens. It happened to me. 100% 100%. Yes. Yes. And sometimes to me, some of the veteran quarterbacks play favorites too much because they're like, Oh, he runs this route exactly like I always like it.
Starting point is 00:21:22 Oh my gosh. So I'm always going to throw to him for the four yard gain. And I want to be like, okay, yeah, so what? This guy over here is not as good as it, but when he catches it, it's going to be a 40 yard gain. But oh, I trust him. That is his, the Pythagorean theorem will be exactly correct when he puts his foot on the toe and comes out.
Starting point is 00:21:40 And it's like, some of that shit gets old on me with some of the better quarterbacks. We saw some of that, right? Brady said something along those lines earlier this season, right? Where he would say like, there's times that they would send out guys and I just didn't think that they prepped the right way.
Starting point is 00:21:53 I wouldn't even look at them. So it basically at times he was playing 10 on 11 cause he just wouldn't even look at guys. Yeah. There is that aspect, definitely. Like I think he was talking about it in the Cowboys game, right? The receiver fell and Dak Prescott through the interception Yeah, there is that aspect, definitely. Like I think he was talking about in the Cowboys game, the receiver fell and Dak Prescott through the interception
Starting point is 00:22:08 and he just said, oh, that guy was back in the game with me later, I would, you know, hesitate throwing the ball with him. Cause yeah, I don't trust him. I don't trust he's gonna stay on the feet or run the route the right way. Listen, if the guy is like on the regularly doing dumb crap and stuff like that, I get it.
Starting point is 00:22:23 But I think sometimes it's a little too like, here's Alan Lazard, here's Garrett Wilson, one guy runs four three and could be a superstar, the other guy is a third receiver in the NFL, but he breaks the slant route off at exactly the right angle I like every time. And I want to go, yeah, this guy's still running a good slant route
Starting point is 00:22:41 and he's way more dangerous. Like that's the stuff I don't get. And that's what I mean by that. It's so funny because he definitely favors Lazard. Like now that I think about it. Yeah, 100% talk me off the ledge. Tell me the sky is not falling in Miami. It's it's it's falling. It's falling. Sorry. I don't think you disagree with me. I just was talking about this game a few minutes ago. I mean You guys look like you're in shell shock ever since that injury ever since it happened It's like the whole team gave up and belief and fight and everything and that worries me Yeah
Starting point is 00:23:14 I mean i'm picking the patriots this week because i'm a little bit like I gotta see the dolphins fight and try to win The game and do it first before I you know pick them and gr, ugly game just sounds like Patriots, Chako B. Percet, Gerard Mayo type of win. Now it stinks you guys lost Skyler Thompson, because I do think no one's going to run the offense like Tua, but Skyler at least could like, hey, he's been there. He's had reps on the offense, right?
Starting point is 00:23:38 So he could take advantage of some of the tricks that Mike McDaniel has. With a new guy like Tyler Huntley or somebody else, it's going to take a little time. You know, we've seen, you know, the motions, the shifts, all that. There's a magic, there's a feel, there's repetition that goes into making that work that Tua was so good at. So they miss him there. And it gets back to like a big thing I think we talked about before the year. And Mike McDaniel has talked about it. They're not the best ugly game Oh, it's not a free-flying flag football seven on seven game
Starting point is 00:24:10 If it's not that can they win it they were just trying to find their way in that department And now they're like thrusted into it and I don't think they've you know Perfected that by any stretch of the imagination. So yeah, I think it's a big trouble down there in Miami. Kansas City Chiefs, Chris, this is interesting. They're 4-0. They don't have a number one wide receiver. Running back is hurt. They keep winning football games. Spagnola is a genius. He is great. My sense is he'll get another head coaching opportunity maybe after this season, but I know the Chiefs have done it with defense the last two years back to back Super Bowl championships. If the offense doesn't find its
Starting point is 00:24:48 way, can this team win the Super Bowl playing this way? I'm never going to count them out. I know because I've never you know last year taught me that like again, we've never seen that before in the history of football. I don't think really I think in like when time goes by people are gonna realize what the Chiefs did last year. Played mediocre football, got to the playoffs and flipped the switch and played A-plus football. Yes. That doesn't happen. You know I've never seen a team do that in my life. So I'll never count them out from that in that regard
Starting point is 00:25:20 but I'm a little worried about them definitely. I mean you said it they are clearly a defensive football team. The defense wins the game for them every single week. I mean, it's, it's four and oh, they haven't really played a good game yet. I mean, as a complete team. Right. I mean, you can look at it in a lot of ways and go, man,
Starting point is 00:25:37 I mean, you know, how many times have they outplayed the team they actually beat this year? I'm not sure. I thought the bangles outplayed them. I mean, you could have made a case for the Falcons certainly, right? But Chris, they've won their four games by 25 total points. I mean exactly. It ain't pretty, but they're the ultimate get it done football team. They are that. They have my home. So they always believe if they just stay close, they'll make a big drive in the end of the game to win it. So again, I do think they need more offense, 100%.
Starting point is 00:26:08 And I would expect them to be a team that would dabble in the trade market for a wide receiver as we go here. I think it's a tough game for them this week with the Saints. I do, I'm picking the Saints to pick the upset here. Really? Because yeah, I have, I have the Chiefs first off,
Starting point is 00:26:22 I don't think you're gonna be able to run the ball on them consistently on the Saints defense. I don't think you're going to be able to run the ball on them consistently on the Saints defense. I don't think they have enough weapons in the past game. It gets a good, creative, aggressive defense in the Saints where I think they're going to give them problems. And, you know, you play overly aggressive against the Saints offense. The Saints outplayed the Falcons last week. They should have won that game. And if you overplay them, you better be careful playing that run game because Rashid Shahid and Olavi will run by you and they will throw the ball down
Starting point is 00:26:48 the field. Yeah, I think this is like a big game for the Saints. I'm going to say they're due. They're a little desperate and the Chiefs are probably floating on a little false confidence being 4-0 and not playing really that good. So I'm going Saints. Interesting. PFT with Mike Florio on Button Podcast, Football Night in America. You got the Steelers and the Cowboys coming up this week. We'll get you out of here in just a second. Bo Nix seems improved. Like I saw some steps last week where I can perhaps envision
Starting point is 00:27:15 a day where Bo Nix is a very good quarterback in the NFL. I think so. We talked about last week. You looked very good against Tampa Bay. Last week was tough. They're not great on offense right? I mean they're gonna be a team that's gonna be like hey we're just solid and consistent. All right that's about as good as they're gonna be. I don't expect them to ever be a top 10 offense in
Starting point is 00:27:37 football this year but you know run the ball. He plays smart. That Jets D you say what you want it's still really damn good. You know, that's two gods They're super talented. Yep. Here's the surprise of the bike I mean the Broncos because I deep dive that that Jets Broncos game this week the Broncos defense is really awesome I mean, it's really damn good. They got sneaky good pass rushers on the edge with Benito and Cooper, right? They're okay on the interior part of the defense and when the kicker is They're coached well by Vance Joseph and I would argue they have they're in the conversation for one of the best secondaries in football Surtain is an island shut down guy the other corner Riley Moss
Starting point is 00:28:19 He's damn good at Iowa Macmillan. the nickelback is a damn good nickelback. PJ Lockett's safety is phenomenal. So they're going to be tough from that standpoint to score a lot of points on. And that'll buy them time to continue to bring Bo Nicks and add more offense and him get more comfortable. I'm not counting the Broncos out. I think they're going to be a pain in the ass. And of course, they got Sean Payton. That's always going to make them tough.
Starting point is 00:28:43 Yep. Billy should ask this question, but I will ask it. Is Trevor Lawrence good? I deep dive that last week too. I did. I had to. One, I have no doubt that Doug Peterson in his post-game preff conference, when he said the players got to make plays, right?
Starting point is 00:29:01 He was talking about Trevor Lawrence. And there's no doubt. Trevor Lawrence had five or six throws in that game that could have changed the game, won the game, that are inexcusable for somebody of his talent level to miss the throws, right? And those are ones that, plays that could have jumpstarted them
Starting point is 00:29:21 to win the game against Houston, maybe jumpstart their season a little bit, and they're just not getting that from him right now. As I think I told you guys last week he's got a strong arm he's a great thrower he can really throw it we can go whoa look at that spiral and that thing is flying through the air but he's not a great passer. Touch timing right rhythm are things he's not great at. And right now he's off. I see him miss throws every game where I just go, you can't miss that.
Starting point is 00:29:51 You just you can't. The guy's running a post route. Nobody's in the screen for a touchdown. You can't miss it. The guy runs it out and up. He's going down the sideline wide open. Nobody's on the screen. You miss it. A third and 10 out route.
Starting point is 00:30:03 Hey, he's wide open. Damn, he threw it seven yards over his head. That is definitely one of the issues with them right now. And yeah, that doesn't get better. It's gonna be disaster down there. Get your thoughts on two quick games here. Bills, Texans, what do you think? I'm excited for this one.
Starting point is 00:30:17 It's gonna be fun. I am too. I'm not a believer in the Bills offense all the way yet. So that's my problem here. I'm going to pick the Texans. I think the Texans one will be able to stop the Bills run game. And like we just talked about a few minutes ago,
Starting point is 00:30:32 I don't think the Bills are talented enough a receiver to expose the Texans in the secondary. The Texans can play some pass defense. They got some good corners. They got speed on the edge to where I think they'll corral Josh Allen. And you know, the Texans offense was CJ Stroud. Yeah, I think they're going to be able to move the ball on Buffalo. I would like to see the Texans run the ball a little bit more than they had because then their play action pass game becomes unstoppable.
Starting point is 00:30:59 But no von Miller, the Buffalo can't really play man to man. They like to play zone. I think Houston Texans will tear that apart. I'm taking Houston to win that game. All right. And your game Sunday night, which brings me back to a time brings all of us back to a time. Cowboy Steelers met many times when I was growing up in the Superbowl. What a great game you have Sunday night. Dallas needs this one. Pittsburgh finally got their first loss. It's going to be interesting to see if they ever going to Russell Wilson. But what do you think here? No, I mean it is.
Starting point is 00:31:28 It's a classic matchup. My big thing here is do I think the can Dallas move the ball consistently on the Steelers defense? I know the Steelers defense is good. I'm not sure how good they've played some, you know, poor offenses to start the year that I think have inflated their stats. But I think at the end of the day, I do like the Steelers. I don't think they're going to let CD Lamb go off. And that's the one guy you've got to stop. There's not really another option in the pass game. Dak Prescott has been phenomenal. So he scares me, but they don't run the ball that well. And I do think without the Mark
Starting point is 00:32:03 Demarcus Lawrence and Michael Parsons, I think Pittsburgh will be able to run the ball that well. And I do think without the Mark, Demarcus Lawrence and Michael Parsons, I think Pittsburgh will be able to run the ball a little bit and you'll get some one-on-one opportunities against the Dallas Cowboys defense. And that's where I think George Picken and Justin Fields will make some connections. I like the Steelers to win that one. Hall of Fame running back, one of the best football players I've ever seen. Terrell Davis is with us and he is with us on behalf of Wells Fargo. He is returning to Georgia for homecoming week and he joins us right now. Terrell, thank
Starting point is 00:32:35 you for joining us. What are you doing with Wells Fargo? What are you doing at Georgia? Yeah, I'm teaming up with Wells Fargo and we're helping student athletes and their families with financial education resources to really maximize their earning potential while they're dealing with this NIL era. This is a unique one for these student athletes to be able to navigate some of the obviously the benefits of making money but also some of the pitfalls and so today I'm doing this and then later on tonight I'll be heading back to campus and we're having a conversation with myself and the Wells Fargo executive with student-athletes and you know that you don't have to be a student athlete at Georgia.
Starting point is 00:33:26 This is for student athletes nationwide. They can tune in tonight to watch it. You can see it on my social channels or you can go to georgiadogs.com. They can watch it there. But this is really great because when I was in college, we didn't have anything like this. And so now to have the resources and to have Wells Fargo investing in these student athletes' futures is really awesome.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Terrell, it is awesome. What do you make of the new college football landscape where, and you have, I'm happy to hear that you're doing this because kids are getting a lot of money, they don't know what to do with it. Hopefully they have many of their contracts signed, but what do you make of the new college football landscape where you have all the kids being paid, all the kids transferring whenever they want, you have 17 year olds playing with 27 year olds, but I think it's never been better. What are your
Starting point is 00:34:16 thoughts? Yeah, I agree. I agree. I don't know. I'm not a big fan of the transferring, the transfer portal at the rate it allows you to transfer. That's the only thing I would say. I would hope at some point they would put some measures in there that will allow you, you know, where you can't transfer all the time or the NIL is where if another school wants you to transfer you have to compensate
Starting point is 00:34:45 the program that you got the player from, the student athlete from, and then maybe pay them the same amount. But I think universities should benefit from other schools taking their athletes. But as far as the NIL and young athletes making money, I'm 100% on board with that. I love it. It gives them a chance to experience that success in college, to be able to benefit from the name, their image, their likeness. And a lot of student athletes would never have an opportunity to make that kind of money once they leave college. So why not allow them to enjoy that and to benefit from their success and their popularity? the the
Starting point is 00:35:27 the the the the the the the Yeah, yeah, it's problematic but and I think these two things might help right you create a salary cap for schools Here it is. You've got X amount of dollars. That's all you can spend on NiL Obviously, I think bringing it in-house
Starting point is 00:35:53 Is where I think it's headed. I've met like almost positive. That's where it's headed and then you you do like I said before is that you make you punish schools of you do, like I said before, is that you make you punish schools of financially for taking other players. If that if this kid goes from University A to University B, University B has to compensate University A in some type of like, you know, not only for the salary, but you know, some type of punitive damages or something like that. So I think by doing that, you might have less kids transferring. But listen, other than that, I think it's awesome to see what's happening now. The old days of seeing a guy come into a system and stay in there four or five years,
Starting point is 00:36:40 I think those days are gone. And we'll miss that because it's hard to look at the roster sometimes and say, man, where is it like you normally you can see a roster grow and you and you know, okay, next year they have this junior. They have the sophomore right and he'll you know, you don't know that right back when you were playing, you were backing up Garrison Hearst. I mean, that's just the way it was, right exactly exactly and I wonder I say man like if if NIL were around, we all have to think
Starting point is 00:37:06 about it. What if we had stayed in our situation? Because, you know, we all had to go through some challenging times. I went through challenging times at Georgia. And I do wonder if I would have tried to stay if transferring was available to me. Sure. And I hope I would have, but who knows? I may or may not. I was gonna go just there with you because obviously you had a great NFL career Hall of Famer.
Starting point is 00:37:33 You did well obviously financially as well. I was gonna ask if you ever think back, like man, if I was in college, I wonder what I would have gotten in NIL. But your point is more interesting. Like, I wonder if I would have been tempted to go somewhere else because of offers that are made to me.
Starting point is 00:37:47 And I wonder if your journey would have then been different. Like I wonder if you going through what you had to go through as a result of not being able to transfer, if you think that that was instrumental in what amounted to a Hall of Fame career. That's a great question. It is. It's the great, it's the ultimate question. Who you ultimately become?
Starting point is 00:38:06 Is that because how, and you grinded through it and you became patient and you had to go through that process? Was that part of why I was successful? I don't know. I don't have an answer to that. And it's what that affect other kids for just kind of, in our world, we kind of say, are you, they're quitting. They don't want to go through the hard time. So they opt out and go another route. I don't know. I don't know. I'd like to think that no matter where I went, I was going to find
Starting point is 00:38:40 a way but he's not getting the playing time probably just transfers to the team. Two was the backup but these and it wasn't too long ago by the way but now two because he's not getting the playing time probably just transfers to a place where he does get the playing time and we never see two have come into the game late for Jalen Hurts
Starting point is 00:39:15 and win that national championship. It seems like kids are sprinting to the playing time rather than facing some adversity and maybe waiting a year or two because they chose to go to a really competitive school. So you brought up a great point.
Starting point is 00:39:26 Are they transferring not because they're experiencing hard times or it's because they only have a limited amount of time and they want to maximize? Yes. That might be part of it too, right? Like to sit there and let's look at, let's look at, let's look at Arch Manning for for example,
Starting point is 00:39:47 it's probably going to be a starter next year and he'll he'll be a junior. So, he'll play two years. Right. Well, let's say somebody, a kid comes in there and they're sitting behind arch or somebody, another young quarterback. Do you want to
Starting point is 00:39:59 wait for it? Do you want to wait four years before you play one year or do you just, are you like, I need to go play? Yes. I want to, you know what I mean? Yeah. Yes. It just happened with Ohio State and Kyle McCord. He was a freshman. I think they went to the playoffs. He went to Syracuse because they brought in two guys that were better than him and he wanted to play. Yes, I
Starting point is 00:40:15 just want to play. I want to play. I have a limited amount of time. I don't have time to wait. Well, that's the interesting thing about college, right? Cuz you really do just have a limited amount of time. It's not even like the NFL, you have a limited number of years before you get old or whatever. But in football too, you can get hurt one play to the next, right? So like your entire career could be derailed and the way the system used to be, coaches had no loyalty to any of these players, right?
Starting point is 00:40:38 Like you'd bring in a guy and then the next year you're already looking for his replacement and if you get passed over like, sorry buddy, you just didn't play. And then your career gets completely derailed. So like there is criticism, I guess, of players going for the money. And you could say that they're selfish, but they're really just taking care of themselves and I guess their future families and children's and all that to come. So you can't fault them really.
Starting point is 00:40:59 I hope I would not fault you. That's you have to think about yourself. You have to think about, we make these comments assuming everybody's going pro and that's not the reality. The reality is you have a limited amount of time, you might be a really good player, but you probably would never make it to the next level. You have to maximize your earning potential while you can. And if that's transferring to another school, that's what you have to do. And I
Starting point is 00:41:31 would never tell somebody not to do it and stay there and sort of pass over actual playing for waiting your turn at a school that might, that may or may not be better for you to go to the next level. I mean, we don't know. We don't know. So no, do what you got to do. Terrell, put us where you are. Put us inside your head as Georgia's making that comeback against Alabama. And then Alabama steals the game away from you at the very end. What was Terrell Davis doing? I was watching it. at the very end. What was Terrell Davis doing?
Starting point is 00:42:03 I was watching it. I was, you know, I was, I was watching, of course, you know, you pretty excited about the comeback, thought that they had completed it when they took the lead, but knew they had to make a stop. And so when they didn't make the stop, he's just like, oh, here we go again. Cause I was, I was at the championship game, I believe it was 2017 when we played Alabama.
Starting point is 00:42:30 And that's that was when to our first started. That's when to came in. And, and hurts, nothing hurts. It hurts to start. Yeah, hurts. It hurts. It's all right. Yep. And then to came in, I was on the sideline of the game and I was just about the text. We had just went to overtime and, and Georgia had us got a sack on second down. Or was the first down. So it was like, it was like second and 30. It was some lamb. It was a long yard game to, to get the first down.
Starting point is 00:42:59 And all we had to do was stop them. Game was over. And I'm about the text, you know, Hey, Georgia national champions. Oh no. And that was a play. And as I'm about to send out the text, I can hear the crowd just, I'm on Georgia side line,
Starting point is 00:43:16 so the crowd is just quiet and the ball's in the air. And I look up and it's coming over my head and it's right there. Bam. And it's coming over my head and it's right there. Bam. And it's like game over. They go nuts and they beat us on the sideline. So that was it. It's your fault, Terrell, you jinxed it, man.
Starting point is 00:43:34 I mean. Yeah. I think so, I think so. I think I came in. But I went to the two, I thought I was the big jinx, but then I went to the two national championship games and so that just dispelled that whole rumor. So you didn't start, you didn't start texting anyone before you won the game. That's the difference.
Starting point is 00:43:51 You learn your lesson, I guess. Right? That is true. That is what, do you like the new playoff format? Cause now they're still in it. Yeah. Like you guys are good. It hasn't even happened yet.
Starting point is 00:44:00 And I was, I was super excited when they, when they announced 12 teams, I said, now that's where they're supposed to be at. Actually, I think it's going to 16 teams sooner rather than later. I think after this year, they're gonna put in, they want 16 teams. The more teams you have in, I think it's a better, I just do, I just love college football, I love playoff football.
Starting point is 00:44:22 I don't think it's this idea or notion that you should be privileged to make it to the playoffs to me. I don't think that shouldn't be the case. I mean, you look at basketball, basketball got 100 teams in their tournament right now. College of NCAA basketball has a ton of teams in the final, that that bracket and it has not diluted the quality of play. I think that's where it's headed. I like it because it involves more non-traditional conferences, non-traditional teams who can play a season and still feel like they don't have to be perfect to make it there and that's what I love about it. So yeah, I'm a big fan of 12. Can't wait for it to start.
Starting point is 00:45:08 I have an idea I wanna run by, Yustugats. I feel like you might be in on this idea too. Okay. I also feel like Narell Davis should be the commissioner of college football. But anyway, go ahead with your idea, Billy. Okay. So we're at 12 now, we moved to 16.
Starting point is 00:45:19 I think that we kind of stretch it out and we make it so that essentially the entire season is a playoff bracket, right? Everybody's in at the beginning of the season. You rank all the teams one through 150 or whatever it is. Right. And it's winner go home. So as soon as you lose your season's over and you've been removed from the playoffs and you just keep going until there's one team left. That's undefeated. All the kids from the losing team transfer wherever they want. I mean, ooh.
Starting point is 00:45:46 That would that would that it's like you're taking us back to that one loss and you're done stuff. I don't like that. Terrell, we we appreciate this very much. It's a pleasure speaking to you always. You are a good man. Enjoy the weekend and hopefully we will see you. I think Billy and I would like to anoint you as the Commissioner of College Football. We'll
Starting point is 00:46:09 discuss it down the road with you if you would come back and join us. I sure will. Absolutely, guys. And finally, big game, takes me back to a better time It does takes me back to the beginning of me being a fan of football Cowboys Steelers Dorsett Swans Stalback Bradshaw Mejo Green incredible Cowboys win They're getting three points. They win the game outright and the cover Cowboys by ten points on the road at Pittsburgh Those are the picks everyone. Good luck Mike Jalen Milro, is it crazy to say
Starting point is 00:50:10 We'll see how this year ends But let's say it ends with them running the table making it to the championship game whether they win or not I don't think really matters for the purpose of this question Is it crazy to say he's a more talented quarterback than Jalen Hurts or Tua? He's a better, better athletically. Yeah, where I'm heading is I think he has a chance to be the best Alabama quarterback of all time if he could pull this off. I think the best passer of those three is Tua. Right. The runner is Jalen with his size and Milroy can do them both pretty well. Yeah, I mean, that's not a false statement you're making.
Starting point is 00:50:53 He very well could be. Like I said, Tua is definitely the best passer, but you don't know with his injury history what the future is for him. Obviously, he's going to try and come back. But yeah, boy, what a game Millroy had. Oh my God. I mean, what a tale of two halves in that game.
Starting point is 00:51:14 I mean, and for Alabama, I mean, what, two, three of their DBs or two freshmen? Ryan Williams, a true freshman wide receiver. I mean, it's ridiculous the amount of talent and young that they have. I mean, it's a great comeback by Georgia in the second half that's actually taken the lead 34-33. That was stunning with a couple of minutes to go. But boy, oh boy, I mean, that and so many people think,
Starting point is 00:51:42 oh, this is what's wrong with 12 teams. They weren't playing for ones in and ones out. They're both gonna be in. Doesn't matter to me. I hope they play again. I mean, that was a great game. I hope the hell they play again. Every week I take that game.
Starting point is 00:51:56 Yeah, I hope they play for the SEC Championship and then I hope they meet the playoffs. Hope we get three games like that. I'll take it. Billy and Mike EA only wanted it twice. I mean like that. I'll take it. Right, Billy and Mike Ea only wanted it twice. I mean, yeah. I'll take it every week. I'm with you. Three times a little too much.
Starting point is 00:52:10 Nah. Absolutely. Never enough. Yep. Oh, it was incredible. Mike, I said the Georgia team in the second half might be the best team in the country. Well, I mean, would it be better than the Alabama team in the first half? I don't know. I mean, it seems to be those, you gotta put Texas in there with them, right?
Starting point is 00:52:30 Do you put Ohio State in there with them as well? I think you have to, right? Because, you know, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Ohio State. Penn State. You know? Yeah, I know. I don't know why. I don't know why I keep feeling like they need to prove it because that for for the last few years, we've put them in with Michigan and Ohio State, and they've fallen short.
Starting point is 00:52:57 So we're waiting for Penn State to break through, right? And be up there and now add Oregon to the mix, add possibly USC to the mix all Big Ten in the Big Ten conference now. So Penn State to me is still kind of in the overall groove. I mean they're 4-0, they're undefeated, so they proved in each game. But overall, you know, make a mark in the Big Ten. Yeah, what you don't trust there is James Franklin. I mean that's what they have USC coming up in a couple of weeks and then they play Ohio State and you just have the feeling He's going to lose one of those games. It's listen and he and he can take care of it I mean those are two James to take care of on the field. You're matching up head-to-head
Starting point is 00:53:38 So it's you get to prove it you get to prove it Mike, what do you make of so we we played this and we talked about it. Antonio Pierce, the Raiders head coach, saying players were making business decisions. We're gonna make business decisions. I guess now we know the player he was talking about and the business decisions that they're gonna make and it's Devontae Adams.
Starting point is 00:53:58 What do you make of that situation? Well, I mean, Antonio Pierce is a former player, former linebacker, which again, he's normally the leader of the defense, the guy who makes the calls on the defense. And I don't think that Antonio Pierce has, has switched over to the diplomatic coach answers. And he is, he is just going full barrel. Let's hope he stays there, Mike. Yes.
Starting point is 00:54:23 I don't, I don't know if it's anything that he called max by name and Devante by number. Uh, you know, remember when a Devante, uh, in the, the Netflix thing receivers set on the sideline, a game, he was getting hit. He said, I need to get the F out of here. I'm going to get F and killed here. And Antonio Pierce was asked about the quotes and he said, Hey, it is what it is you can't erase
Starting point is 00:54:46 those quotes I mean it just seems like you know Antonio Pierce is just done with him just and it's the best player on on the offense Max Crosby is the best player on defense it's a great player who you owe a lot of money to now there's no more guaranteed money starting next year but if you if you Hold on to them for this year and don't trade them and then cut them in the offseason It's 44 million dead cap money That that you're gonna uh, you're gonna have to pay So yeah, I think antonio pierce
Starting point is 00:55:19 And i've always said Be careful how a coach or a player talks in a locker room because then you bring more attention to a situation. Now, this was always a situation that was going to get a lot of attention, but not only is Devante, will he get asked about it, Antonio get asked about it, but teammates will start getting asked asked about it as you're trying to prepare for another game. Right. You're getting asked about, you know, it's kind of a distraction.
Starting point is 00:55:45 If you're the Raiders, you just need to get one team to offer you a first round pick because you know the Jets are going to match it. Like they have no choice. They have to make the moves to give themselves the best chance to keep their jobs. What picks do the Jets have though? I mean, I'm not up on what picks they have all of them. Yeah, listen, you're right. All you need is one team to start it and then everybody else to jump in. We know Pittsburgh was in it on the Brandon Iuke, uh, deal. And when it looked like he might be leaving San Francisco and Pittsburgh
Starting point is 00:56:16 is playing some ball, uh, right now. So, I mean, you have George Pickens and you have a farm roof, the tight end. I mean, that, that's really all you have in a hell of a running game and a hell of a defense So give yourself a big-time receiver and Devontae Adams I think I think the Steelers absolutely should go all in for Devontae Adams It's gonna be interesting to see Mike Sirianni and Jalen hurts. Can that relationship be repaired? Well, not if they don't make the playoffs or have an early exit in the playoffs. I think that that'll be it. And we know who's going to go. Uh, you're paying one
Starting point is 00:56:50 guy, you know, 50, $55 million a year. You're not paying your coach that. So we know a change will be made if they don't make the playoffs or have another early exit in the play. So team, those in the super bowl, what, three years ago? Yes. I mean the team that was 10 and one Bowl, what, three years ago? Yes. I mean, a team that was 10 and one after 11 games last year. Mike, they were a play away from beating the Chiefs. I mean.
Starting point is 00:57:10 Yes. Talk about Big Team fall hard. I mean, it's amazing. They're on their third O coordinator, third D coordinator in three years. Yeah, I mean, it's, I know they lost Kelsey, and Lane Johnson getting hurt doesn't help him You know what with the O line but say Kwan Barkley, you know
Starting point is 00:57:29 Outside of Derek Henry has been been one of the best pickups in the offseason He's third in the league and rushing Derek Henry's first so much for you know, older backs, you know not doing well So I the defense still the defensive interior line, Jalen Carter's playing some ball without question. But yeah, I mean, this team better make a run or or I have a feeling, you know, and I never like seeing anybody get fired, but part of the business that I think that would be a change. Mike, the Miami Dolphins have been one of the most exciting teams to watch since Tyree Kill and all that, but now they're hard to look at. Who's kind of at fault for this?
Starting point is 00:58:11 Is it Mike McDaniel for not being able to adjust without Tua or is it on like the GM for not having somebody besides Skylar Thompson to come in? Well, I mean, we've seen other teams be able to kind of excel without their starting quarterback, Matt LaFleur, Ebalik Willis, who was given up on in Tennessee, go 2-0. Shane Steigin. Pardon me? Joe Flacco, Colts. Joe Flacco with the Colts, yeah, getting the win. So you have coaches who talk about fitting players into systems and we talk about that.
Starting point is 00:58:53 It's been the knock on Brock Purdy who's gonna get paid and should get paid is, well, he's a seventh rounder, he's a system quarterback. Well, you know what? He's a successful quarterback as well. And you talk about a backup being able to come in and fit in. And the job of a backup quarterback, unless he's in for the whole season, is to keep your team's head above water
Starting point is 00:59:17 until the starter gets back. Now, oddly enough, Malik Willis is 2-0 and Jordan Love is 0-2. So Malik Willis did his job. A couple of years ago when Dak got hurt in the opening game, Malik Willis is 2-0 and Jordan Love is 0-2. So Malik Willis did his job. A couple of years ago when Dak got hurt in the opening game, missed five games, Cooper Rush went 4-1. I mean, he kept the team's head above water.
Starting point is 00:59:34 That's the job of a backup. So like anything else, Stu, it's not one thing. It's the talent you bring in to be the backup. And it's the system that the coach has and a Tyler Huntley It was only barely been there. So even as he said as I learn more of the offense I'll be able to do more of the offense But we've seen other backups step in and get the job done in the system that's being played So I think there has to be a little bit of blame that goes around. To your credit, Mike, and I think Dominic Foxworth
Starting point is 01:00:07 did it better than I've seen other people do it, and you would view the game this way differently than the way I would or Stugats would or even Mikey would, right? Because you watch the film, you watch the tape, and he did a good job of illustrating, they're running the exact same plays that they ran with Tua.
Starting point is 01:00:23 And Tyler Huntley just doesn't have the confidence to make the throws. He doesn't have the relationship with Tyree Kill. He doesn't know when to release it. So he's playing as someone who's been brought in for a week, a little more conservatively than someone who's familiar with the system would normally do. Now then I guess that would have you ask,
Starting point is 01:00:42 because people will say, well, maybe people figured out, you know, Mike McDaniel, which is not the case. He's just running the same place. But I guess then as a coach, is it on him to almost bring it down a notch or two knowing this is the situation when you're plugging in a new quarterback? So it's on the court. Now a lot depends on the situation. Tyler Huntley, who was preparing all week to be the starter. So the quarterback
Starting point is 01:01:05 that's going to be the starter, they get the bulk of the reps and they are in on the game plan. And basically what you figure out between head coach, O coordinator, if there is one, or if head coach is calling the plays, whatever the situation may be for any team, you get together with said quarterback and you go over the plays that that quarterback is comfortable with. And he may not be as comfortable with the same plays Tua is comfortable with. So that's what you take care of during the week. You kind of design the plays or the plays that you have in your playbook around the quarterback that you have quarterbacking the team. I guarantee you the playbook is different with Anthony Richardson and Joe Flacco.
Starting point is 01:01:46 You can't have, while that's the biggest quarterback room in the league, you can't have two more different quarterbacks. So you're not gonna call the same plays you call for Anthony Richardson for Joe Flacco. Just not gonna happen. And that's on a big scale. So the scale goes down a little bit as quarterbacks are closer in movement ability
Starting point is 01:02:07 and talent ability of where you would tweak a game plan to the traits of that quarterback. So yes, that definitely can fall on the coach. Gojo and Golick, check it out of the DraftKings network, wherever you get your podcast, they'll be on the Steelers Cowboys game coming up this weekend. Man, that brings me back to a better time. Oh my god. Does that
Starting point is 01:02:26 game bring me back to a better and younger time and a better looking time? I might add Mike, we appreciate it. You might want to pull a hammy because the BCS is coming next week. Yep. I feel I feel a cold coming on. You okay? Get better soon. I feel I'll lose my voice. Listen, it's good you're getting it now because the BCS is still a week away. Yeah, get it out of your system. My grass to recover. Damn, I blew that one, didn't I? Yeah, you did. You're supposed to get sick like next Tuesday. Yeah, that's my fault.
Starting point is 01:02:56 I played six party sports in high school. Come on buddy. Man, that was 40 years ago. Hold on a second. You played six varsity sports in high school. What were those? How did you have the time to play six varsity sports? I did two per season. What sports were these? I did football, swimming. I did tennis and track. You did swimming.
Starting point is 01:03:27 I did soft, yeah. Dude, swim. Just f*** around with swimming, dude. Swimming will get you the most shredded you f***ing will ever be, dude. That's why I'm asking if you did swimming. Yeah. Dude, I was like doing,
Starting point is 01:03:39 in high school when you were like, not even born, probably, Billy. Can I ask an honest question about swimming actually? Dude swimming is hard. It's probably the hardest for a round. I know swimming is like really difficult. The cardio is insane, your core strength, but like is the hardest part about being a swimmer,
Starting point is 01:03:56 the fact that you had to wear little underwear and everyone could see how small your piece is. Is that the worst part? Well, if you remember- My piece wasn't the problem. So if you were swimming, then yeah, I would see that would be the case. If you remember correctly, Mojo,
Starting point is 01:04:10 Kay Funk told us he was having threesomes in high school. So that wasn't a problem for him. I did it 100%. 100%. Yeah, 100%. Dugats, thank you for joining us. What you've missed so far is Kay Funk has told us that he was a varsity athlete in six sports in high school and that he was a he was a swimmer in there
Starting point is 01:04:30 and then Mojo asked him if it was embarrassing for him to wear a Speedo so everyone could see how little his piece was and then he told us how big his piece is. So now you're you're all caught up. No, no, no, no, I'm not caught up. How big was it? Or is it over or under three inches? Oh, come on, dude. Wow. That's a good question. Blasted, blasted, blasted?
Starting point is 01:04:51 Yes, yes. Jesus Christ, bro. How tall are you, Kayfun? Kayfun, how tall are you? By it up to three and a half. Six foot. No, you're not. What does it matter how tall you are?
Starting point is 01:05:00 I don't think that matters. What size are the shoes? I think that's an 11. Yes, question Mike. A quick small. 11. Wait, how tall you are. I don't think that matters. What size are the shoes? I think that's a miss. 11. Question mark. A quick fall. 11. How tall is he, Mojo? He's probably like 5'8".
Starting point is 01:05:11 Oh, shut the f*** up. I don't know if 5'8". Oh my God, bro. Don't you have a cutout of Mojo in your house somewhere? Go get that and stand next to it. He does have a cutout. Hey, wait, hey, hey. Hey, I'll be right back.
Starting point is 01:05:23 Go. Okay, good. Oh my God, this is Hey, I'll be right back. Go. Okay, good. Oh my God, this is so exciting. This will prove nothing. Yeah. Hey, uh. Where is ShareBear? Is he not joining us today?
Starting point is 01:05:32 I mean, is ShareBear not joining us? No, he got booted. He did? All right. Mojo, how tall are you anymore? Wow, K-Fuck is like, must be six, seven, six, eight in real life, I guess. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:43 How tall are you gonna telljo? Look at this. So let me get this straight. You went to Kinko's and spent probably like $600 to buy a life-size thing of me, but making it two inches smaller than you for- What are you talking about? That was from the charity event, Ojo, that I drove to Orlando for to support you.
Starting point is 01:06:02 You stole something from a charity event? Yeah. Billy, who do you imagine amongst this crew would be most comfortable being a part of the varsity swim team? I think Gordy, to be honest with you. It's definitely Gord. Yeah, really?
Starting point is 01:06:16 I have the body. I have the Michael Phelps body for sure. I can tell, right? Oh, Stu Gatz, you also missed both Mojo and Mike are having children, so. Yeah. Oh, Stu Gatz, you also missed both Mojo and Mike are having children, so. Yeah. Oh, congratulations, everyone. Their first child, both of them.
Starting point is 01:06:30 Wow, life is gonna change for the better, fellas. I'm happy for both of them. Thank you. 100%. Mike's doing his revealing in Australia. Just in case you wondered. What happened? You saved the date.
Starting point is 01:06:41 Live on our show. Gender reveal. All right, so what, really, what are we doing in Australia? Well, that's where my wife is from. Oh, okay. Listen, I'm gonna be in Australia next year. That's why I was asking. I have to go, my daughter is studying abroad.
Starting point is 01:06:56 I'm going to visit for two weeks. Wait a minute. Someone tell Levantard. What a coincidence. Wait, is it, I thought she plays lacrosse, right? She does, that's the one who's at Northwestern, the other one's at Syracuse. She majors in partying,
Starting point is 01:07:10 and she's going to Australia to party some more. I was born, you know what, I was born in Syracuse, and I like her already. All right, well thank you. She's on my squad, thank you. Listen, it's very high on Emma's list, that K-Fug likes her. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:24 Party, you're from Syracuse and you party, you're a b****. Oh, you're all good with me, that's for sure. So guys, would you let your daughter party with K-Funk? No. What? No. Dude. No.
Starting point is 01:07:36 Why? Because you're 50. It's weird. Because you have a manager. Mike, yes. I'm not 50. I'm not 50, asshole. K-Funk, no.
Starting point is 01:07:44 No, no. He asked me a question, I said no, don't argue. The question wasn't for you, it was for me. My answer was no, I still not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not
Starting point is 01:07:52 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50.
Starting point is 01:08:00 I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm not 50. I'm a, you know, look, I know I talk shit, but kids are, I love kids, bro. I'm the best fat around dude. Right. I think if I had to leave my kids with someone on this zoom.
Starting point is 01:08:12 Well, if you say Mojo, you're just, cause that's not, no, no, no, no, no, no. I think Mojo would take that responsible very seriously. I don't know Mike well enough, Thomas, no way. Gordy's just got too much shit going on. I mean, Gord's gonna have I know you well enough. Thomas, no way. I mean, Gordy's just got too much **** going on. I mean, Gord's going to have that
Starting point is 01:08:30 kid muscle chugging within 12 seconds. Yeah, that's true. Muscle chugging a bottle. Right. Well, that's why I take serious as being a dad, though. So, that's why I'm sending them to you, Mojo. You would take it care of. I know you would. Got
Starting point is 01:08:41 you, buddy. Alright, so Billy, do we have the records? We have Carl's picks, correct? Yes, we have Carl's picks and K-Funk has Sharebear's picks. And he was last place. All right, so K-Funk has Sharebear's picks. And do we have the standings as of this week? All right, so as it stands right now, Chris Humphries and Detective Matter in first place,
Starting point is 01:08:57 then tied below that are Gordy and K-Funk at eight, 10, and two, which is nothing to brag about. And then just below that, well, I guess technically, Carl is better than you guys at seven, seven and 2, which is nothing to brag about. And then just below that, well I guess technically Carl is better than you guys at 7, 7 and 1. But just below that is Mojo who's 7, 11 and 2. And Mojo, you've pointed out multiple times, I think had like a winless week or like a one-win week. And still even with that is only one game behind you somehow.
Starting point is 01:09:19 Can I ask you a question? I had to throw out that week to make it interesting. Was that with week one or without week one? That's with week one, week one's in. All right, well, for now. What were you doing? Let's get to the games. Bills at Texans is gonna be our first game.
Starting point is 01:09:31 Mike, I'm going to you first here. Gordy seems hard at work, very hard at work. And he needs to get back to work. Mike, Bills at Texans is a good game. Bills coming off a loss. Texans are three and one. They're coming off a win. Texans are plus one at home win. Texans are plus one
Starting point is 01:09:45 at home. The Texans are plus one at home. Taking on Buffalo. Mike, who you taking? Well, I heard a stat last week that Buffalo has not lost by two scores in like three years. So, that was like a total aberration and it just goes to show that even the best D coordinators could get blown out in the NFL. I just want that to be on the record. It can happen to anyone. Now, as
Starting point is 01:10:08 far as this game, I'm going to go back on the Bills. I was in a long running Madden franchise with my brothers on PS two. I was the Bills and we we did a lot of good things that we always bounce back after a tough tough loss. I'm going
Starting point is 01:10:20 Bills. Alright, you're going Bills Mojo. Who you taking here? Alright, man. I'll make it simple for you. I'm also taking the Bills. Alright, you're taking here? Alright, man. I'll make it simple for you. I'm also taking the Bills. Alright, you're taking the Bills. Billy, do we have Share Bear? Who has Share Bears?
Starting point is 01:10:30 K Funk does? Yeah. Hold on. Alright, go ahead. What is who Share Bear taking? Share Bear is on the Bills. Alright, he's on the Bills. Who's Carl Douglas taking? Carl has the Texans. Carl says the Texans. Wow. Gordy, who you taking here? Um
Starting point is 01:10:44 I just want to bring some up real quick. Uh Papa Gronk went to Syracuse as well. Nice. I know he funked it. But I also got invited from a sorority last week to be one of their sorority dates at Syracuse. October 18th, yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:00 So I'm debating it. I do have something else that day. But they said if I can't make it, they, they want me to come to the formal and they all follow me on Instagram. Wow. The wheels are turning and Sugata said he's trying to figure out what's the first name Emma. I mean, I might have to do my picks with your daughter. Wow. You know what, I would trust you with my daughter as well. I would. I was going to ask that.
Starting point is 01:11:22 I just wanted your permission. If I go do that, if that's okay. That is okay. It's more than okay. I encourage you actually. Okay. Make sure she's okay and not drinking. Exactly. That's what I'm doing.
Starting point is 01:11:32 I'm making sure that you know, you have eyes, we have eyes on her. Thank you. You're a good guy. That being said, I will take the Buffalo jills since I used to data Jill. Okay. I like it. I love it. All right. Since I used to data Jill. Okay. I like it. I love it. All right. Since I used to data Jill.
Starting point is 01:11:47 Okay, fuck. Are you taking here? Give me give me Alan on this one. I feel like he's not going to have a work worse game than last week. So give me give me the bills. Just say what mojo. Yeah, I just I don't know. It's tough.
Starting point is 01:12:00 It's a tough game actually. I'll take Mojo's pick. It is a tough game. I'm going right back. Funk. Okay, fuck go right back to you here for the second game. Panthers at Bears, a game that Billy and I are hosting a watch party in Chicago for.
Starting point is 01:12:12 Really? You guys are going? Yeah, you going to come? Yeah. Yeah, I'll look up flights. Red rifle. Can I bring my Spearnot? Yes.
Starting point is 01:12:21 But it's presented by Spearnot. They would love that. Why did I say anything? K-Funk, just make the pick. Go ahead. I'm going to bring my spurn out. They would love that. Why did I say anything? Okay, fuck. Just make the pick. Go ahead. I'm going to take the Panthers on this one. Are you really? Wow. Okay. Mike, who are you
Starting point is 01:12:34 taking here? Bears minus four at home, two and two. They're taking on the Panthers with Andy Dalton. Yeah, I mean the red rifle. I'm going with it. Panthers. Oh, man. Yes. Mojo, who are you taking here? Man, I like to go opposite the group, but I don't like the Chicago Bears, man.
Starting point is 01:12:50 They look good. What do you mean? They won, didn't they? I'll take them. I'll take the Bears. I don't feel good about it, but I'm not, I gotta go opposite. Well, I didn't feel good about betting
Starting point is 01:13:00 on two teams you played for and they both lost. So. Remember that thing, if you don't have anything to say, don't say. Do that. Who's Sherbert taking here? Who's the guy? Hey. That's not funny either. It's a visual. I mean, the movie is.
Starting point is 01:13:18 Oh, let me look, let me look. Gordy needs to get to work. I know. He got to work. Hey, here. All right, Jerry. Let me look, let me look. Gordy needs to get to work. I know. Gordy doesn't f***ing work. Hey, Rob's here. All right, Jerry. This is Rich Ripsaw. Scare Bear took the Panthers.
Starting point is 01:13:31 There you go. Scare Bear took the Panthers. Panthers are very chalky. Hahaha. Who is Carl Douglas taking, Billy? Carl took the Bears. Carl took the Bears. And who is Gordy taking here?
Starting point is 01:13:43 Carolina. Taking Carolina. Damn. who is Gordy taking here? Carolina taking Carolina. Carolina. That's a lot of Panthers on here. That's a lot of points. Alright, Gordy coming back to you here. Packers at Rams. Rams are plus three at home. Who are you
Starting point is 01:13:58 taking? Dude, Rams all day. Rams all day. Uh Mojo. Who are you taking here? I know who Mojo is taking here. Look at this guy. Look at this guy. What is he doing here? I aren't both in D n's out but I literally just remembered I aren't both in D N's out Micah Parsons and Demarque's Lord. Yeah, yeah. I'll go I'll go Steelers. You are armed with way too much information for this my friend. Way too much analysis. No Mike is great. That's how you wind up 17 and 3. You know that's right. Well played. Who was Carl Douglas taking Billy? He took the Cowboys. Okay. Gordy, who are you taking here? Did anyone see my brother get pranked this week? Yes, I did.
Starting point is 01:15:52 Yeah, that was good. Who was the backup tight end Rich Russo? Something like that, yeah. What team did he play on? Forget. Was it the Cowboys? Yeah, it was the Cowboys. Cowboys. I gotta definitely go opposite.
Starting point is 01:16:07 That guy only had two, three fingers. Right. I'm going with the Steelers. He had eight fingers. I love that Rob fell for it and just started like breaking it down. Hey, you gotta give him credit though, because. It was great.
Starting point is 01:16:22 He was great. He didn't pretend like he knew who the Crusoe was and like tried to hype him credit though because it was great. He was great. He didn't pretend like he knew. Yeah, no, he was and like tried to hype him up. No, he went out of his way to say he didn't know who he was and it was shocked that he was playing in the league. Especially with only eight fingers. It's unbelievable. Three on one hand. Such a great drink. I love when Rob gets confused. It's one of my favorite things. It was unbelievable. It happens here and there. It's one of my favorite things. It is. It was unbelievable. It happens here and there. It's so good. Alright,
Starting point is 01:16:49 final game fellows. What happened? Sorry, Mike. No, nothing for me. Yeah, no, no. Saints and Chiefs. The Chiefs. Something's off in Kansas City, yet they're still four and oh. It's unbelievable. Chiefs are minus four and a half. They're at home. They're taking on the the New Orleans Saints who the NFL. Um Chiefs are minus
Starting point is 01:17:05 four and a half. They're at home. They're taking on the New Orleans Saints who through two weeks was the best offense in the NFL and now two weeks later, they're not. So, let's start with let's start with Gordy here. Get him out so we
Starting point is 01:17:17 can go to work. Gordy, who are you taking? You know what? I just think those games are always so tight. Uh I'm going to New Orleans. I'm taking the four and a half. Okay. Who is Carl Douglas taking here? Carl's taking the Chiefs.
Starting point is 01:17:31 Carl's taking the Chiefs. Mike, who are you taking here? Chiefs minus four and a half, taking on the Saints. Yeah, I agree with Gordy. And just, you know, like you said, the Saints offense was on this great historic pace, but now it's actually the commander's offense that's historically great. And any defense that goes against them, I just want to say, you know,
Starting point is 01:17:49 you'd excuse it if they had a bad game. That's true. I just want to throw that in there, but yeah, I'm going to take the points. I agree with Gordy. It's tight. Mojo, who are you taking here? Yeah, I think I agree with everybody. I think I got to take the points and the greatest refs in the NFL. So give me the Chiefs. No, everyone took the Saints, Mojo. No, everyone took the points, so did Mojo. No, Gordy took the Saints. Mike took the Saints. What are you talking about? And I took the Chiefs. He took the points.
