Starting point is 00:00:00 With Amex Platinum, you have access to over 1,400 airport lounges worldwide. So your experience before takeoff is a taste of what's to come. That's the powerful backing of Amex. Conditions apply. I was guilty of multiple skin care crimes. Two counts of sleeping and makeup. One count of using disposable wipes. I knew my routine had to change.
Starting point is 00:00:26 So I switched to Garnier-Missler water. It gently cleanses, perfectly removed. makeup and provides 24-hour hydration. Clear away the evidence with the number one Missler water worldwide by Garnier. We're here in Tampa, Florida at Raymond James Stadium. Another outdoor game. Nice, Mike Mill.
Starting point is 00:00:45 It could be historic or it could be chaos. This is the hockey show. The favorite joke of the hockey news is right here. Ethan and Rosie is in the studio. I'm Roy Bellamy. We are in Tampa for a stadium series. This is the hockey show. You can watch us on YouTube at the Hockey Show DLS.
Starting point is 00:01:18 We're on TikTok at the Hockey Show 7 and on X Instagram and threads at Hockey Show DLS. As I said, we are in Tampa and we got to look at the forecast and it said snow flurries. Like that's crazy. I don't think it's going to actually snow, but it's going to be. be interesting here. It's cool. I mean, look, I think I mentioned it the other day on the hockey gods aren't only smiling at Tampa, but they're kind of laughing at us right now because it's not just cold. It's Florida cold. It's really cold. It's going to get down potentially into the 30s over the next couple of nights. So definitely fortunate because as we saw down in Miami,
Starting point is 00:01:56 like they got amazing weather for the winter classic down there. Couldn't have asked for better. So yeah, it's just pretty awesome how it's all working out for the NHL and these outdoor games here in Florida. What do you say is going to be the main difference that's going to happen between when a classic and stadium series outside of the location what do you think is going to happen? I think it's just going to feel a lot different
Starting point is 00:02:16 because it's a much bigger stadium. It's more open. There's going to be a lot more fans, probably going to be a lot noisier. The fact that they've had to build the ice under this massive tent behind us just to make sure that whatever weather inclement might happen didn't impact the ice is spilled, but it's just really cool.
Starting point is 00:02:32 The way that they're building it on a giant pirate map, I think it's really neat. So there's just a lot that, you know, after they blew me away with my expectations for the Winter Classic, my bar is significantly raised for this one, and I really think they're going to kill it. Have you guys been to the ice already, or you haven't been able to see it? No, we literally just got here for the recording of the hockey show. We haven't gone down to see any of the build. I don't know if we'll be able to go down to see any of the build.
Starting point is 00:02:59 We might get thrown out of here. So that was a good question, Rosie. We're going to ask some questions. You think we're going to get thrown out of here? I think if we do what we were talking about and try just sneaking down there with our skates, somebody might grab us by the back of our collar and Fred Flintstone us out the window.
Starting point is 00:03:14 But we got to try, right? Like, it's so unique, so cool. We got to see if there's some way if we can get down there. All right. So we're going to figure it out. But it looks beautiful out there. The sun is out. It is chilly.
Starting point is 00:03:25 I don't know if we got the 50 degrees yet. But it's a bit chilly, but it's better than New York. It is a disaster up there, a whole bunch of snow. and such. I found this interesting. This happened, apparently. The National Hockey League is not issuing supplemental discipline anymore. That task has been sent over to the Department of Player Safety.
Starting point is 00:03:48 So George Perros and boys are going to take over handing out fines and suspensions for everything that's in the rulebook. Now, the fans have not been happy with the DPS, the way they've been handling things as far as the physical aspect of the rule book, as far as boarding and illegal checks to the head, they have not been happy because some issues have been skirted. Others have been, I guess, either rightfully or not rightfully, been supplemented.
Starting point is 00:04:20 There's been discipline for that. So what do you think of this move? And is it going to get any better? What are we talking about here? You'd like to think that if they're making a change, that there's a plan behind it with how it's going to be different and why. I think as you talk about a lot of what people have been frustrated with, as, you know, we're in person in a press box right now. So Roy's got to do some in-person producing. So that's what
Starting point is 00:04:40 you're seeing right now. But no, I think one of the big issues that people have had with the DPS and just how fines and suspensions have been handed out is the inconsistencies where they can look at one play and say, okay, I see that that was a suspension. But now I see this play and it looks almost identical. And the punishment is much different. So I think that's where a lot of the frustration comes. So I'm hoping that with this change, the idea is that they're going to maybe have, they've got some kind of a new hierarchy or a way that they're going to judge these things just to make it seem like a little bit more uniform, because I think that's why a lot of people get upset, is that we really have no idea what the hell they're doing.
Starting point is 00:05:13 I'm sure this will only turn down the noise. Sorry, guys. I'm sure this will only turn down the noise. Also, you forgot to say hi to the most important guests on the show today, which is Percy's back. Percy's back. But I'm sure this will only answer. Ethan, why are you in the back?
Starting point is 00:05:27 Like, I'm like, something was going on. That's a good story. This is actually a really good story. Something was going on. I was sitting at the seat I normally sit at Roy. But for some reason, at that seat only, there was piano music in the headphones. And it was driving me absolutely bonkers. Like I could not figure out why there was piano music coming from the headphones.
Starting point is 00:05:46 And it was driving me insane. So I had to move otherwise I might have literally lost my head on this show. And that's before we even talk about the Florida Panthers. Hold on. Let's dive into this piano situation a little bit more. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Did Rose hear this piano music? No.
Starting point is 00:06:01 No, no. It was just even. When I put the headphones, wow, it was there. I got in and I'm like, why do I hear piano music? And Rose is like, I don't hear piano music. And I'm like, okay, now something's really wrong. So then I went around to all of the headsets in the shipping container. And none of the headsets in the shipping container were hearing piano music.
Starting point is 00:06:20 For some reason, only your seat, Roy was hearing piano music. I don't know why. So I don't know. I don't know. It was freaky. And I'm asking Jason, I'm like, Jason, why is their piano music? And nobody's giving me an answer. And then I turned off everything that was on, on the board to see if something was playing out piano music, whether that be it was soundboard or something. I don't know what. Here comes GQ to try and solve the problem, I'm guessing. But there was piano music coming from that chair. And I don't understand why. And I'm telling you, I literally was like, I've been super busy today running around doing a bunch of stuff, I was about to go crazy. Like, I was about to absolutely lose my head. So anyway, did Jeremy bring his piano? No.
Starting point is 00:07:05 You would think. You would think that guy loves, nobody loves playing a piano more than Jeremy Tashet. Let me tell you. All right, as you were saying, Ethan. Yeah, I'm sure this will turn down the noise on the fact that George Peros played for the Florida Panthers back in the day. And so that he apparently has some kind of favoritism towards the Florida Panthers.
Starting point is 00:07:23 But GQ, listen, give it up for Danny GQ, guys. I mean, come. Hey, day. The best. The best. Anyway, yeah, I don't know too much about how this process works, Roy, but I just look at through everything through a Florida Panthers lens. Wow, cut that for the club.
Starting point is 00:07:40 I look at everything through a Florida Panthers lens. And I'm sure this will turn down the noise now that George Paro seemingly has full control over suspensions and those kind of things. I say turn the volume up. Bring all the noise. At this point, who cares? Like, as long as they keep on churning out the way they have. been the way that the Panthers are probably going to go for the next several years, Ethan,
Starting point is 00:07:59 just keep bringing it up. George Peros, Colin Campbell. I don't care. I love it, dude. No, I love it. I love how mad it makes everybody that the Panthers supposedly get all the calls, even though last night they had another bad call going against them. We saw what happened on Tuesday night in the game against Utah,
Starting point is 00:08:15 where you have that stupid embellishment rule, and then a hold on the empty net gets completely missed. I mean, it's just the most ridiculous narrative out there. But that's the narrative that you get when you win two Stanley Cups back to back and people are really mad about it because you're from the state of Florida. All right, while we're talking about the Panthers and while Percy's on your console, let's go into the Panthers then and talk about the week that was the Panthers. They finally got Matthew Kachuk and Brad Mawshan in the same lineup for the first time since they lifted the Stanley Cup.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Now, I got a lot of shit because... For about seven periods. For about seven periods. Now, I got a lot of shit against the spread during the big show last week because apparently I failed to mention that it's the first time. time ever that Matthew Kuchuk and Brad Marshall played in the regular season. I'm like, they lifted the Stanley Cup together. Like, give me a break.
Starting point is 00:09:04 All right? Don't, let's get all. Like, give me a break here. I'm just trying to give a pick, all right? Well, we're making fun of me for no apparent reason. But it was the first time ever in the regular season that those two got to play together. Let's go over this week. All right.
Starting point is 00:09:16 So the Panthers beat Minnesota in Minnesota. Now was a big win, four to three in overtime. And then the Panthers trounce the Blackhawks five to one. they came home, lost to Utah in just a ridiculously annoying game. They had the two. They don't embellish. Okay. They had the two embellishment calls.
Starting point is 00:09:37 And then Florida lost to St. Louis 5 to 4 in a game that should have went to overtime, but they didn't go to overtime because of that terrible penalty on Nicomicole. So that's where we are right now. The Panthers are back at home on Saturday. We're going to miss that game. I'm playing the Winnipeg Jets. So let's talk about the week that was, David. I'm pissed.
Starting point is 00:10:00 I'm pissed off because of the embellishment calls. I hate that call in general. I don't think, I think it should just be taken out completely. Like, these are hockey players. Look at what Trevor Zedris did. Or excuse me, not what Trevor Zegris did. Look what Matt Glenn Celebrini did.
Starting point is 00:10:13 We'll get to that later. It's just in terms of how hockey players are good people. But, dude, can we just get rid of the embellishment call? And then also, stop bleeping. I almost dropped an F-Bomb button. Stop bleeping, pushing your own. players or the other team's players into your own goalie. Can we stop doing that?
Starting point is 00:10:28 Because A, goalies are getting hurt. B, these dumb ass penalties are getting called. I'm just very frustrated over DPS. I hope you're going to get your shit together. That's all I go. Yeah, I was at that Utah Game Boys and that was tough. I mean, that was probably the most frustrated
Starting point is 00:10:44 I've been after a Panther game this year. I should have put the video in. There's this really funny video Kirsten took of me walking out of the stadium, like yelling on the phone at my dad because of how annoying the game was. But it feels like right now, like each loss that the Panthers suffer is dumber and more frustrating than the last one because the stakes keep going up. I mean, last night's loss puts you eight points out of a playoff spot. You have two huge games next
Starting point is 00:11:09 week when you play Buffalo and Boston, not back to back, but, you know, one Tuesday and then Thursday or Monday and then Wednesday. It's going to be a really tough stretch for the Panthers right now. And they basically, at this Olympic break, they're going to have to get back to within about four points if they want a real chance. But eight points with 30 games left, and nobody in the Atlantic seems to want to lose. I mean, everybody just keeps winning. Boston is on fire. I mean, look at these records recently. The bolts are 16, 1 in one in their last 18. The Red Wings are 8, 2, and 2 in their last 12. The Sabres are 23 and 1 in their last 24, and the Bruins are 12, 2 and 1 in their last 15.
Starting point is 00:11:53 The Panthers aren't necessarily playing at a bad pace right now. The teams in front of them are just playing at such insane paces that they can't keep up with them. And they're going to have to not only get hot, but the teams in front of them are going to have to come back down to Earth if they're going to want to make a playoff spot. And it's going to be tough because none of these teams seem to want to go away. According to Chad J. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:12:16 Yes. The Florida Panthers have roughly 56% chance of making the playoffs. So maybe my hot tags that I did like way earlier, they're going to be true and they're not going to even make the playoffs. Like 56% is a number that I believe, but how they're playing I think it's going to go down, down, down and down. I believe MoneyPuck would have been a better source for that, Rosie.
Starting point is 00:12:43 I'll check MoneyPuck right now, Roy. It went to MoneyPock, actually. It actually says MoneyPuck. Oh, there we go. Good job. Good job. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:51 Chad Jop because it's money puck. Money puck actually right now has them at 41.9%. The athletic, I think at the start of this week or last week maybe had them up to 72. That was the best their chances have been so far this year. I'm not sure where the athletics odds stand, but 41.9% for the Panthers, these last two games have basically buried them because it's been four point nights for the Sabres and the Bruins and the Panthers each of these nights. So they're going to have to get hot. And also, like I said, you know, these teams are going to have to get cold.
Starting point is 00:13:23 But they're not going to be able to get hot if every single night, it seems like a new guy is out of the lineup. Like you get a little healthier. Kachuk comes back. Marchand comes back. And then Lundell goes out of the lineup. Obviously, Seth Jones has now been out of the lineup and will be out of the lineup until at least after the Olympics. Brad Marshan leaves the game last night in the third period after he missed eight games. So it's just you can only survive so much.
Starting point is 00:13:47 And I know that people say, well, the Lightning have had injury issues too, and they're still playing great hockey. But it doesn't feel like it's been quite to the extent that the Panthers have had. I think they've averaged like five and a half players out of every game this season. It's insane. And also to boot, like the Panthers aren't getting good enough goaltending. The Lightning are, you know, have Andrew Vatsilevsky who's playing at a very high level this year. And Terasov's playing well for a backup. But, you know, Bob has really struggled this year.
Starting point is 00:14:15 And that hasn't helped when it comes. to the injuries, but you can also put it into context of there's not a lot of structure in front of him right now because these lines are bouncing around all over the place. I know I'm ranting, but, you know, last night you have a line of Greeter and Samiskevich and I forget who else was on the line with them. The third line center, oh my God. Oh, Lusterainen and Greeter and I can't even remember. Oh, Schwint was the guy. It's like these lines are shuffling all the time. Yeah, my mind's in a blender too, guys. I'm in a very bad place.
Starting point is 00:14:49 I don't think the Panthers are going to make the playoffs, and this is really the first time this year. This is the first, no, this is the first time this year that I've really thought, like, it's bleak right now. Eight points with 30 games and everybody else is playing hot. Like, I'm telling you, they got to get back to within four at the break. All right, so we're looking at milestone markers, right? We have Thanksgiving.
Starting point is 00:15:11 We have Christmas and New Year's. now we got the Olympics and we're going to trade that line. So those are the four spots going up until the end of the season that we have to look at and where we are in the we. I say we as if I'm a part of the team. But the Royal We as a league where we are in the standings, that's what we got to look forward to. Now the Olympics is coming up.
Starting point is 00:15:31 That means rest for like a third of the team because the other two thirds of this team is going to Milan. But rest for this league, we'll see what's going to happen after the Olympics. and where things go going up into the trade deadline. Yeah, I mean, look, to Ethan's point, it's become a little bit more difficult situation, but the way that the season has gone just with so many teams kind of tightly packed together in a playoff race, it's been ebbs and flows. I don't think we can count on Boston and Buffalo and Detroit and all these teams that are above Florida continuing to play at this level, the way Tampa has just been lights out.
Starting point is 00:16:05 And you know what? If they do, then that's the season and it has. And then when we get back and it's around the trade deadline, then Bill Zito can plan for the future in a different way. but I am not counting the Panthers team out. I think that they are going to continue to start building momentum as they get healthier, assuming that they don't keep getting decimated by injuries. The time off is certainly going to help in that regard.
Starting point is 00:16:22 But Ethan, I kind of get where you're coming from. It's getting late early, I guess, would be the phrase. But it's not late. It's not late early anymore, Dave. It's late with 30 games left in the season, like three-quarter, like two-thirds of the way through the season now. Like, that's the only thing. Like, yes, of course, if we were eight points out and it was December or because, of course, there's no big games in December. But there's big games in January when you're eight points out of the playoffs spot.
Starting point is 00:16:50 And it's getting late fast, I would say, at this point. It's not getting late early anymore. It's getting late now, boys. But there's two games in hand, Roy. And we, you know, it's not six points with, you know, three games in hand. It's eight points with one or two games in hand. Like, it's bleak, it's bleak. But look, if anybody can do it, it's the Florida Panthers, right?
Starting point is 00:17:15 If anybody can do it, like, I believe in this team's ability to do it, especially if Seth Jones comes back after the Olympics, depending on when Demetri Kulikov, Jonah Gajevich. There's a lot of guys to get back, but also there's no guarantee that guys won't continue to be in and out of the lineup like they have been for the last two months or so. All right, it's time for puck luck brought you by Drap Kings. The crown is yours. David, please. Please.
Starting point is 00:17:39 Well, look, we're a little limited this week because there's only one game tonight, but I was able to dissect some value. We're going to do some alternate lines, and I always have a good feeling, but I have a good feeling about this one. It's Chicago against Columbus. The Blackhawks are hosting the Blue Jackets. We're going to go three shot props, all to go over two and a half. We're going to take Connor Bardard, who's hit this number in nine of his past 10, and Columbus also gives up the second most shots in the league. On Columbus, we're going to take Adam Fantilli and Kirill Marcienko to go over two and a half shots. Fantilly's hit in 7 of 8.
Starting point is 00:18:09 Marshinko is hit in 10 of 12, and Chicago allows the seventh most shots in the lead. Goal-wise, we're going to take Columbus to score over two and a half goals. They've scored 4-plus and 5 of their past 7, and Chicago was allowed 4-plus in 3 straight. And then we're also going to take the Blackhawks on the money line. This is, for some reason, I don't have the odds in front of me. I send them to Ethan. I think it's like plus 622, something like that. But this is a good one.
Starting point is 00:18:34 I feel like taking the alternate lines, we can actually dissect a little bit of value tonight. All right, so there you go. Maybe we'll win money this time. It is time for Rosa in a minute. Rosie. Okay, first I want to tell you guys why I'm wearing this. You don't care, but my eyes are very puffy. So don't blame me about things.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Come on. I'm not playing you for anything. Okay. Hello, my, kids. In this is a minute of hockey with Rose, this time we're going to Philadelphia, where the Flyers decided to serve in group. The semester ranco,
Starting point is 00:19:05 Rewa, Rewa, 4-0, contra Cato, under the Islanders and her. Soraki, regalanded us a shot-out like if it was a show-out, but no, no, no, no,
Starting point is 00:19:10 no, no, no, no, no, he made to two goals, and the fliers Nicoski, the fans
Starting point is 00:19:14 pired, the final never, a spoiler, never came, the part of a much in the last ingupt,
Starting point is 00:19:20 Chhavis, he, he's, he's, when Columbus and even as a-and-a- three,
Starting point is 00:19:26 so, so, so, two goals, and so- it's- a-g-l-l-l- And, well,
Starting point is 00:19:29 I thought Boston said, Let me give to get a derrote 6-3 against
Starting point is 00:19:33 the bruns another night for the poors so the players end the time with three defrosos
Starting point is 00:19:39 so re-recomp and with asking to what I'm what you have to do to do you know,
Starting point is 00:19:45 because clearly this year this year's they're not but this time so this year so this
Starting point is 00:19:50 year's a week with a song and a co-o-o-o-o-os. All right, that was Rosa
Starting point is 00:19:58 in Minuto. And now it's time for Rose in a minute. Go ahead, Rose. Let me give it to your voice, since you don't understand Spanish. Tickets. This is one minute of hockey with Rose, and this time we're heading to Philadelphia, where the Flyers decided to suffer all together. The week started terribly for zero loss to the Islanders, and I lost our king handed them a shout out like it was Christmas, and it was not Christmas. Paragu had scored twice, and the Flyers didn't even tickled them. The fans begged, at least one, please, spoiler, it didn't happen.
Starting point is 00:20:28 They came the most unfair game of all. Travis Konezkin dropped a hat trick against Columbus, and they still lost 5'3. I mean, score three goals, and it's seen as enough. Pure pain. And just in case that wasn't enough, Boston said, let me help you, six three loss to the bruns, another long night for Philly. So the Flyers fish in a week. Three losses.
Starting point is 00:20:49 A lot of effort, zero rewards, and kinetic, wondering what else has to do. Up next to the Kings, because clearly this week wasn't enough punishment. The Flyers took off, but this week, week they crash. This was one minute of hockey with Rose, your weekly recap of Park passion and a little bit of chaos. Wow. I like that you know was dancing like Dan Lovittard there with the headsets on his eyes for no apparent reason that was great Ethan. Next week's team get a good get a good rummage in here boys. Uh, good rummaging. Yeah. Next week's team the Carolina Hurricanes. Okay. The Carolina Hurricanes. I hope that's better.
Starting point is 00:21:28 into the division there. Okay. All right. Good luck with that, Rosie. It's time for wins and fails. All right, David, what you got? All right, my win of the week happened earlier when the Oilers were hosting Anaheim. Something happened to Oilers' goaltender, Tristan Jari, that we see kind of fairly often
Starting point is 00:21:45 with other NHL players, maybe not so much with the goalies. While sliding from his right to his left, his heel hit the post and knocked off the blade of his skate. And then he had to go and try to make a save with absolutely no traction. For anybody that's seeing this happen in players, you can see it's like impossible to stay without a skate blade. For a goalie to do it, goalies rely so much on their edges. It's pretty ridiculous to see that not only did he like make a save, he's diving across the crease, but he can't move. So this is the big win on Christian, on Christian Jari, obviously having a little bit of fun in Edmonton these days.
Starting point is 00:22:17 But that's so hard I felt for him. So that's a major win that he was able to keep that puck out of the net. Maclin Celebrini is good. Yes, because he's very good. He's very good. How good is he? How good is he? Roy. Insanely good. You know how good he is? He is good enough to win a face off without actually using the blade of his stick. All right. So during a faceoff against Teddy Blugher and the Vancouver Canucks, he was in a face off circle and his sticks got tied up together. So he decided to flip his stick used the knob, the butt end of his stick, to draw the face off back in his own defensive zone. That, my friends, is a win from a guy who,
Starting point is 00:22:58 who's really making a lot of noise for the heart trophy discussion. I'm looking forward to putting him on my ballot. There you go. I'm looking forward to voting. I'm really afraid of what the NHL media is going to do to Macklin Celebrini in terms of just anointing him as the next Sidney Crosby and what that will do for my and Roy's perception of Macklin. It will make me happy.
Starting point is 00:23:18 Very scary about it. Rosie, what is your win? My win of the week actually goes to the Thunderbug. He actually went scuba diving and you can see the picture. Oh, Thunderbug. I don't know how he did not. drown or chalk there, but he went for the thing. So good job, Lightning. I love it. Ethan, what you win?
Starting point is 00:23:37 Patty Kane, boys. We need to celebrate this legend. One of my favorite players growing up, one of the guys that got me into the sport of hockey, those Blackhawks teams were so much fun when I was first getting into the sport around 2010. He became the all-time leader in points by a U.S.-born skater last night with his 1,300th-75th-point. Paddy Kane, an absolute legend of the game, arguably the greatest U.S. hockey player ever. Wish we were getting another look at him in the Olympics coming up, but he is an absolute legend,
Starting point is 00:24:09 and great for him to accomplish that feat. All right, let's go to Phil's now. David, what you feel? For my fail, we're going to the ECHL, the main Mariners, but we're not talking about a player on their team. No, we're actually going to be talking about the Mariners' director of marketing, Catherine Horegan, who was swept away by the pregame, but the pregame gear, I guess, the pregame show prop that they were using was being pulled off the ice. She was standing behind the net and it just whisked her right off her feet. And to her credit, she stuck the landing.
Starting point is 00:24:39 She actually waved to the goaltender, the Mariners goaltender. She was being, you know, kind of shimmied off the ice there. But she turned to fail, I guess, into a win. So good on her. That's a win. Yeah. That is a win, bro. Not a fail. And that seems like the opposite of what we were trying to do getting fails, but yes, there's a win. I have two fails. Now, I wish we had the video for one of them, but let's start with the first fail and that's the Toronto Maple Leafs, especially, specifically, Craig Barruvi. We showed this photo earlier this week on the big show and he looks like shit.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Apparently, there was an accident in the wait room that caused a serious, serious gash Now, if you're looking at me in a video, my finger is pointing right here, above my left eyebrow. It curves. As Dan said, a parabola. It curves. A cul-de-sac.
Starting point is 00:25:37 It's the arch in St. Louis. And went to his other eyebrow. So it went from his eyebrow up to the top of his forehead, down to his other eyebrow, and he has a black eye. It is terrible. He looks terrible. And he was able to coach him.
Starting point is 00:25:53 and the Maple Leafs are losing. The fail number two. Anthony Davis Scar. The anti, yes, yes. He has one eyebrow now. The second fail for me, the New York Rangers. The New York Rangers apparently took three penalties on the same shift. Now, I'm going to go over here to this computer so I can read what the penalties were.
Starting point is 00:26:16 Let's see, Sam Kirk tripped Cal McLean. Sam Kirk cross-checked Matthew Ballzoll. This is against the islanders, by the way. And Matt Rempie boarded Mark Gatcom. So that was all in the same shift, all three separate penalties on the same shift. That is very, very hard to do, especially without the other team getting a penalty. So it's a five-on-two power play? I don't think that's how it works.
Starting point is 00:26:42 Five-on-three, and then one goes out, and that starts the next power play. I believe that's how that role rocks. I'm not an expert on that. I was told there would be no math today. Yeah, there's nothing I hate more than me. Matt. Either what you lost, oh, you fail. My fill of the week is also, my fail of the Rangers, Roy. That was my fill of the week as well. Yeah, that's like the easiest fail of the week of all time to take three penalties, two on the same guy. And then of course at the very,
Starting point is 00:27:05 very end, who else would it be? But Matt Rempey throwing an absolute elbow into the back of a guy's head, boarding him and giving just a completely unnecessary play. The only thing the guy does is go out there and be tall and hit people. It's just, and the Rangers in general have been a fail this year. I mean, we can talk about this real quick. We have some time left, but they have been a disaster. They're the only team that's, and we will get to Rosie's fail. They're the only team that's completely out of it in the east. They're like 10 points behind every other team in the Eastern Conference.
Starting point is 00:27:37 Just a nightmare season up at Madison Square Garden. Matt Rimpi is big for nothing. Correct. He's big for nothing. He goes out there, he's throwing elbows, and that's probably the reason why he's getting in trouble so much because his elbow is, when he stands, is right here. His head level to, like, I mean, you just saw on the video, my elbow was up to David's base. And that's basically, if I was like five inches taller, that probably would be Matt Rumpy. But yeah, he's big for nothing.
Starting point is 00:28:06 And he can't fight either. That's the other problem. Not good at anything. Not good at hitting people. Not good at fighting people. Not good at skating. Not good at scoring. Not good at defense.
Starting point is 00:28:14 Not good at passing. Not good at offense. He is only good at being tall. And he's not even good at that because he can barely even stand up on skates. I feel bad. I feel bad. He seems like a nice guy. Rose has a fail of the week, by the way.
Starting point is 00:28:26 I thought she didn't. Before we get the roses fell in the week, yeah. Yeah, let's just go to Rose's fellow the week because we're not having time to talk. Actually, it's also the Rangers, but it has another, you're going to look at it in another way.
Starting point is 00:28:41 I'm sad because the crisis and they're spiraling. And Gaitimazzarato and Joy, Kuri, are friends of the Rangers. So if they don't go to the playoffs, there's maybe no way we can talk to them. So that's my fail of the week. You can keep talking about the Rangers.
Starting point is 00:28:54 Anyway, you have one minute. The bell of the week is we are not able to talk to actors on stranger things. Is that why I'm hearing? Yeah, because the Rangers are losing. We need the Rangers to succeed. We need the Rangers to succeed. We did see Kat and Matazaro at the Winter Classic. We saw him.
Starting point is 00:29:13 Well, you saw him. I saw him. Press Box with Dave. You have one minute to talk more Rangers. Do we even want to talk about the Rangers for another minute? Can we give a preemptive win to where we are right now because of how amazing the league did at the wintertime? No, because Tampa doesn't deserve any credit for anything. They do.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Oh, let's know. This is a state of hockey, Ethan. We're all in this together now. Okay, so that's what we're going to lean into is that we're all in this together because Tampa fans really to seem to be all in this together with the Florida Panthers. We could use a little together these days, I think. Thank you everybody. Roy is going to tell us where you can find us. You don't have to do that, Rosie.

Starting point is 00:33:33 This is the Lightning second outdoor game. They beat the Predators 3-2 to 2 in the 2022 stadium series in Nashville. That was in front of a lot of people. That's like 69,000 fans at Nissan Stadium. I'm completely surprised you didn't say nice. caught me a little off guard there you know what that's a fail on my part I apologize to everybody watching
Starting point is 00:33:54 I feel like now I should just walk away in shame no I kind of need you here the Tampa Bay Lightning are playing the Boston ruins for the past 25 years they've been a premier franchise in the NHL especially since they started winning
Starting point is 00:34:12 talk about the lightning and how they change the aspect of hockey in Florida throughout the league Yeah, well, I think it goes back to probably when John Cooper got hired. I think we can track the stats on that, kind of turn things around here in Tampa and kicked off, you know, kind of what we see that hockey is here in the state of Florida. You guys know you're down in South Florida with the success of the Panthers. But the lightning have been, I think they're an organization that has always kind of done it right, right? They didn't try to skip steps and kind of slowly built towards it.
Starting point is 00:34:46 got two Stanley Cups, went to another Stanley Cup final, wasn't the result they wanted, and now they've been kind of building back to it. So I think it is just, it's an organization that does things the right way, pretty much is the best way that I can describe it. Tampa's been on a hell of a run
Starting point is 00:35:02 over the last month, month and a half, despite missing a lot of players. Like they've missed forwards, Braden points been out. They've missed half their defensemen, it feels like, how are they so good this year? How have they been able to maintain and be such a dominant force in the East
Starting point is 00:35:14 when they've been almost as injured as the panes? or some might argue. It's crazy because it's like they're key players, right? It's not just depth guys. It's Victor Headman, Ryan McDonough. They were without Eric Turnick for a while on the blue line. So the blue line is really taking a hit.
Starting point is 00:35:29 Then you talk about Braden Point, Vassi, all those guys. I think the biggest thing with them is they've been able to call up guys from their HL team and rely on them. And they run a similar system. Everything is kind of, it's copy and paste and there's really good communication. So they've been able to just call these guys up. And, you know, they've been waiting for. for their chance to play up here.
Starting point is 00:35:47 So they're all competing for a spot. And it's worked out really well. They got a guy, Dominic James, who was a draft pick for the Blackhawks, a six-round guy, and he's having a great rookie year. And then DeSteu, who we talked about before this, he's an undrafted guy. So the lighting have always been really good at finding,
Starting point is 00:36:03 they don't always go for the shiny object, right? They're going for the guys. They go over to Europe and scout over there, and then it's worked out really well for them. John Cooper has yet to win a Jack Adams trophy for Coach of the Year. Why? That's a great question. Great question.
Starting point is 00:36:19 I've been getting asked that a lot. I think that everyone is so used to the lightning having success, like what you talked about. Like they've just, they've kind of set the standard. They've been good for so long. And people underestimate what John Cooper does. It's hard to stay good, right? And competitive. And this year, the injuries have been, it's a revolving door of injury.
Starting point is 00:36:41 So one guy comes back, two guys are out. What he's had to do. And it also goes back to like the culture, right? Everyone talks about John Cooper and the culture that he's built. But like doing that is, is constant work. It's, you know, good coaching. And I don't know why he has not been considered.
Starting point is 00:36:56 And even this year, I don't know if you guys saw it, they're showing the votes and like where he's at and he's not even, there's no first place votes for John Cooper. So we'll see. I think he could have won it, you know, maybe his first year coaching on us. He could have won it a couple times. We'll see this could be his year. But think about like having a competitive lightning team coaching the Olympics and maybe
Starting point is 00:37:14 winning the Jack Adams. That's a pretty big season. We have a little bit of understanding of having all that kind of success and not necessarily winning an award for Bill Zito, who's been the GM of the Forever for a while now. One of the things I like most about John Cooper, has been around him a lot the last few years, obviously, with the Panthers.
Starting point is 00:37:31 He was at Four Nations last year. He's just such a down-to-earth, even-keel guy, no matter what's going on around the lightning, no matter how high the team is or how low they might be. He always seems to keep the same demeanor, and he's such a player's coach. He doesn't take out any of his guys in the media. it just must be really nice as we have Paul Maurice down in Florida,
Starting point is 00:37:47 but it just must be fun to have a coach like that that you know you can work with and that you know he's going to kind of treat you like, you know, just one of them. Yeah, I think that's part of it too when you talk about like him being in the running for the Jack Adams. Like that is part of it, right? It's the culture. It's how he does it. When you ask the guys, and I'm sure it's very similar with Palmeris, although I've seen him on the bench.
Starting point is 00:38:05 Like he can get a little feisty. So can coop though, you know. But with the guys, they talk about that, you know, it doesn't matter if they lose. He stays the exact same. like even keel guy that he would be if they won. So there's not a lot of highs and lows. It's kind of just, you know, he builds confidence in them. And I think that that is so much,
Starting point is 00:38:24 especially when you talk about these young guys that are coming in. These guys have had to step up for Victor Headman and Ryan McDonough. Those guys are, they have a lot of confidence. They know what to expect. The culture's already set. And like all of that goes back to John Cooper, all of it. They haven't really lost a step since they lost them. But Stephen Stamcoast and that happened before he went to
Starting point is 00:38:44 Nashville. Talk about the time that happened and what exactly was the disconnect there. Yeah. It's crazy because it's been a minute since Stamco has played for the lightning, you know. I think that it's hard to say now. I think in a couple years, everyone will be able to look back and have answers on that. When you talk about, and you, I don't know if you'll see this with the Panthers, but you go to three Stanley Cup finals and then there was a flat cap, right? And so there was a lot that had to happen. They were losing players and they were trying to work around that. And it was a rough year.
Starting point is 00:39:19 His last year here was a pretty rough year. They were trying to build back defensively. And so I think I think that that reflected in some of like his game and his play and just the team overall that year. So I don't, it's hard for me to say, honestly, the disconnect between what happened with the organization and stamp goes. But I know that they definitely miss him. They're looking for someone to fill that spot in the power place still. to this day and it's kind of it's improving obviously this season they're playing pretty well but he's kind of one of those guys to me he's always this guy that you can't really put a number on right
Starting point is 00:39:54 you bring so much certain guys just bring so much to the room and so much to the team and the organization to me you couldn't put a number on it that's just how I always I always viewed it still to this day one of my favorite commercials of all time is him and headman standing there watching the little kids playing hockey and made me start good time to start saving for college but you kind of talked about Stamcoast's role with the Lightning and how he was a power play killer and us coming from a Panthers perspective, obviously, we know that all too well. But if they're looking for a guy to fill that role, I know somebody who's out there who's available, who has been linked to the Lightning, maybe, you know, one of many teams is Artemian. Is that something that you can maybe
Starting point is 00:40:29 see happening down here to fill that role? Is there a spot for him? Could they make room for him? Is that something that could potentially happen? It's hard for me. I've seen the same thing. It's hard for me to imagine a player like Panarin coming in. One, from a cap perspective, I don't know how that happens. Like, he carries a pretty heavy cap hit that I have not seen the lightning really take on. I guess Jake Gensel was the most recent guy, you know, and you know, because you cover a Florida team. Like, we don't see those numbers really. But anyways, they have a lot of scores already.
Starting point is 00:41:01 Scoring is not really, I don't think, what they'll be looking for. I think it's more they want a good two-way player and also feel. officer in area that they really need some help on. But that is a heavy cap hit. I personally don't see that happening. But usually what it is in my experience with Julian Bristball is where you hear the most noise. Like when he says to look left, you want to look right. So that's kind of my rule of thumb. We'll see what happens. I do think they're going to make a move or two. They have a lot of guys. Like we talked about on the blue line, they've got an excess amount of guys. So I think that's probably where the moves are going to be. What would you say is the difference between Steve Eisenman and
Starting point is 00:41:36 Julian Breesball and how they handled the team when they were GMs respectively. Ooh, that's an interesting question. That's a really good question. Well, I think Julian learned from Steve Eiserman, you know. I think the thing about Julian Brisewell is everyone talks about how he's almost like a stoic guy, but actually around the players, you get to know him. And he is actually a really cool. He's a really cool guy.
Starting point is 00:42:00 And I can't really speak too much on Steve Eisenman, but obviously, like, he learned from Steve Eiserman. I think Julian keeps everything really close to the chest. You're never going to know. No one's never going to be able to figure. I don't think anyone's really been able to figure out any of his moves leading up to the trade deadline so far. So, but yeah, I don't know. That's a good question.
Starting point is 00:42:22 I think with Julian, he is really aggressive and he's not scared. You talk about the Stamco's move. I mean, that's like, that could shake an organization, you know, in the wrong direction. They kind of took it the other way and went with it and it's been really successful. but if you would have said Julian Brisewell is going to say goodbye to Stephen Stamco's. I don't think anyone would have believed you. So I think the biggest thing is he's just not scared to be aggressive. It's just funny.
Starting point is 00:42:45 Like as I'm hearing you talk about Breeswa and then talking about John Cooper and just the way that they've kind of built such a dominant franchise here, it's been similar to what they've done in South Florida with Bill Zito and Paul Maurice, Bill Zito learning from Yarmot-Kecaline and in Columbus, whereas Breiswell learned from Steve Eizerman here and just to see that kind of how it's all come together here in Florida as a Florida native. If us like me grew up watching hockey here, I just love hearing people talk about how awesome it is to see that, you know, this is kind of basically become the state of hockey. Sorry, sorry, guys. I know it sucks, but six straight Stanley Cup finals have come through here. Four days, kind of the state of hockey, isn't it, Dee? Yeah, and I feel like the biggest thing that I don't see people talking about enough is just the culture of the two teams, right? It's a totally different culture. Yes, you can talk about the weather and you can talk about the taxes, but really when you talk about, like, the coaches and how they interact with their players, you talk about John Cooper being a player.
Starting point is 00:43:34 coach, right? There's no, it's not toxic, it's not unhealthy. The players feel comfortable. I know Brandon Hagel, I talked to him the other day and he said he would feel comfortable going up to Julian Breesball and asking him a question. He's not intimidated. He could go up to Dr. Dr. Norton Cooper, anyone in the organization. Everyone's kind of on the same page. I feel like the Panthers are the exact same way. So there's something to be said. I think, you know, some teams could take notes from what they're doing here in Florida, you know. And I feel like, I mean, this is another big year for the Florida hockey teams. Like the lightning are crushing it.
Starting point is 00:44:08 So we could see two Florida teams in the playoffs again. Let's talk about the vibe around the city for this event stadium series right now. How is it looking, especially considering that the Gasparilla parade is on Saturday. So these two events are kind of commingling. Yeah, well, there's definitely a buzz in the city. And I think when I was here this week at the stadium, a lot of people from the league were talking about that. They're just going around and they can tell that people are really excited about the game. The fact that it is on the same weekend of Gasparilla is going to be, it's going to be a long shift for everybody.
Starting point is 00:44:42 You know, Saturday and Sunday, I think everyone's just going to kind of wake up, have a couple hours of sleep, wake up and make their way to the stadium. The weather is cooperating, which I think is amazing because you really never know what you're going to get in Florida. I personally was a little nervous, you know, I'm sure you guys were for your game too, is like, is the ice going to melt? So we're going to have water to skate on, you know. But the weather's cooperating, and the city is really excited. And this has been a long time coming for Tampa. Honestly, they talk about the lightning being as good as they have been for so long, over a decade. So it's a long time coming for us.
Starting point is 00:45:15 Yeah, they've been trying to get an outdoor game here in Tampa for a long time. So to see it kind of coming to fruition and the way that they've done it, right behind us, they have this massive tent structure that they built just so they get the ice build coming up. It's been pretty amazing. But you mentioned Gasparalla happening this weekend, which, you know, for those of you who are from outside of Florida, it's a huge deal for people from this area. It's very pirate friendly.
Starting point is 00:45:35 Roy and are going to be out tomorrow, hoping to kind of take some of that in. But what do you think we can expect as we kind of meander our way around the Gasparella events tomorrow that you're kind of sending us up for? What are we going to see? Are people going to be like literally like Jack Sparrowing
Starting point is 00:45:51 talking to us? Correct. Yes. You're going to wake up in the morning. I've warned, you know, I've warned some people, some family friends that are coming to town I'm like, you're going to wake up in the morning. You're going to go get coffee.
Starting point is 00:46:02 You're going to think you're just getting coffee to prepare for your day. You're going to see grown adults dressed as Jack Sparrow talking to you in pirate talk. I mean, that's like the level. Actually, last week I was driving past Hattricks, which is a great hockey bar, by the way, in Tampa. It's a great hockey bar. I was driving past there, and there were two pirates just casually walking down the sidewalk. And that was a week ago. So at the lightning game last night, they had the ice crew, they were dressed as pirates.
Starting point is 00:46:26 They had all the players, you know, the graphics. them as pirates. So it's a really good time. Use your imagination with it. You're going to see a lot of things. But I think you guys are going to have so much fun. Yeah, we all going to have fun. It's going to be a fun weekend.
Starting point is 00:46:39 Stadium series here in Tampa. DeAndra Lou from the Hockey News covering the Tampa Bay Lightning. Thank you for joining us. Thank you guys for having me. We talked to Jack O'Callaghan, who was a defenseman on the 1980 Olympic hockey team that won the gold medal. Who do you play for? Who do you play for? He joined us on behalf of Netflix and the movie Miracle, The Boys of 80. That was a great interview that we had with him. go check that out on our YouTube.

Starting point is 00:48:14 I want you to be a hockey player.
