We have a trade.
This is the Hockey Show.
Hello, everybody. That's David Draker, the Hockey News.
Rose and Ethan are in the other studio.
My name is Roy Bellamy.
We have a YouTube page.

We have a TikTok at the Hockey Show 7.
and X in Instagram and threads at Hockey Show DLS, breaking news.
From this morning, Elliot Freeman reported initially that the Edmonton Oilers had acquired Tristan Jari from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
It was Kevin Weeks that reported that Stuart Skinner, Brett Kulak, and a 2029 second round pick would be going to Pittsburgh for Tristan Jari and Samuel Poulin.
And Pierre LeBron also reported that the Oilers made a trade.
with the Nashville Predators, they will get Spencer Stasney for a 2027 third-round pick.
Frank Salaveri thinks that Stassney is going to be the long-term replacement for Brett Kulak.
Now, Jari has played three years longer than Stewart Skinner, but Stewart Skinner has more
playoff experience.
A little bit.
Can we say that essentially the same goaltender in this situation?
Is this an upgrade for Edmonton?
They sure think so, based off the price they pay.
to bring him over.
Yeah.
They are definitely,
whatever their
goaltending department,
whoever makes their decisions
over there,
they clearly targeted Jari
as somebody that they think
can come in,
play within their systems,
and find some success.
Whether that happens is TBD.
What's going on in the shipping container?
Rose is happening.
I'm sorry.
I just found my mouse
after like three months.
Hey!
All right!
She found a great fine.
She found a great fine.
Yay.
All right.
Very good.
Very good.
Back to the show.
No,
I'm like,
I'm talking about goldhander.
and I see on your face that your attention is far from what I'm talking about.
I mean, your arms are flapping like, and I can hear you on Ethan's mic.
I tend to, you know, pay attention to what's going on.
I'm so sorry.
I'm so sorry.
I didn't know.
That's my bad for having my mic open.
Yeah, yes.
Why is your mic open?
You know why?
Because I'm getting ready to talk.
Yeah, I'm getting ready to talk.
Exactly.
I want to hear what Jorky has to say first, and then I'll give my thoughts.
David, as we were saying, you believe that this is a good deal for Edmonton.
and he's a better goaltender than Stuart Skinner, who is now at Pittsburgh
Penguin.
I mean, statistically, he's having a far better season than Stuart Skinner is having.
I think, looking it up here, Tristan Jari, 9.8.
Still here, Rose, by the way.
But as you were saying, David.
You keep setting me up to talk about goaltending, and then you keep cutting me off when I'm
talking about goaltending.
I mean, because you're a goaltending.
You enjoy talking about going.
But I ask you a saying.
Saves above expected for Kristen Jari, 9.8 this season, which,
is in, I guess, the top half of starting
goaltenders. It's not
bad. Certainly better than Stuart Skinner,
who, if I keep scrolling down,
actually, Skinner's 6.9,
a nice, decent
goal, saved above expected.
I'm going to have to see him
in Edmondson's systems. I'm going to have to see
how the oilers play in front of him.
This kind of move can be
off the ice. It's not a lateral move.
Well, it doesn't seem like that.
We've got to see how the team responds.
Like, this is the kind of thing that can invigorate a locker room.
So there's a lot of variables that I'm curious to see how they come into play.
But God, they gave up a lot for this guy.
Yeah.
If Edmonton was going to upgrade their goaltending situation,
I figured they would have moved Skinner into the two spot and, you know, acquired somebody to be the one there.
I don't think you're getting any better by acquiring Tristan Jari and continuing with a jari-pickered pairing.
Like, we forget how important backup goaltenders can be in the NHL so often.
And I just kind of think they just did the same exact thing.
And there's a couple tweets I want to go to one in a second that we have in video,
but there's a couple tweets I want to read out that kind of describe how I'm feeling about the trade.
Our buddy Pete Blackburn from what chaos said,
I genuinely cannot believe we waited two years for the Oilers to make a goaltending move.
And this is what they came up with.
That's how it feels.
Like we expected the Oilers to kind of make a splash when it came to goaltending.
And they went out and got Trishinjari, whose career numbers are really solid.
but you also have to have some context here
about being behind a good Pittsburgh defense
and then now moving to an Edmonton defense. Roy, you have something.
So back up goaltender now has been
and still will be Calvin Pickard.
How do we feel about that?
Negative 1.5 goals saved above expected.
Slightly better than Sergey Bobrovsky's negative 2.
Yeah.
It's been a rough year for, you know, as a Panther fan,
we can't say much about bad goaltending right now.
It hasn't been pretty for the Panthers.
Defensively, they have some issues as well.
We should have given up.
Spencer Knight.
Well, I mean, Seth Jones got us to Stanley Cup, so it's like, it's hard to say that.
But yes, the Panthers are lacking right now.
Like in the, we'll get to that later in the Panther Den.
But another thing I wanted to read off here is Dom Leschizen from the Athletic,
who has been on our show before, trading a second round pick, Brett Kulak and Stuart
Skinner for Stewart Skinner East is really funny.
The Oilers gave up a lot here.
It's a second round pick in a few years.
I think it's like a 2029 second round pick or something.
So that's not that valuable, but giving up Skinner and riding with Pickard and Jari as the pairing and Brett Kulak, who has been a solid player for them, especially come playoff time, feels like a hefty price to pay for basically a lateral move.
And we'll see what it looks like for Edmonton going forward.
We're also not talking about what this does on the other side of the trade.
I'm just thinking about, okay, where, you know, Edmonton, the Panthers are in a playoff battle right now.
Pittsburgh is holding the second wildcard spot.
They just basically traded their starting goaltender for Stuart Skinner.
At a hot start at the beginning of the season.
Archer Shulabs, who I'm very high on, great young goaltender, not having the best season.
4-4-and-5, 2.9 goals against 900, even safe percentage.
And then you're going with Stuart Skinner, excuse me.
So is Pittsburgh?
Like, what are they?
Are they kind of packing it in right now?
To me, this kind of signals we're not, we don't even believe in what we're doing here.
Crossbeat of the Panthers.
Nobody really believes, I don't think a lot of...
What are you doing?
They're doing it.
They're set the table.
They're basically saying that, yes, I agree with you, David.
Like, this sends a message to me that...
Don't play with Nate.
Or Montreal.
But there's a Nova Scotia boy in Florida.
You think that just because Brad Marchand is playing for the Florida Panthers,
that Cindy Crosby is going to force Pittsburgh's hand and training them down here?
You mean like Brad Marchand did last season?
That's exactly why I just said that.
You believe that.
I think we're getting distracted from.
the point here, which is that...
No, I'm just point that out, because this man
is over your time about seeing Crowley. We need to
not talk about the Crosby thing. What we need to talk about
ruffled. I get you're mad
about the idea of Crosby playing in a Panther uniform,
which is something that is like
everybody. I think, but again,
the point here is that, but with this
goalie trade, like,
Pittsburgh is basically sending a signal to everybody
that, hey, we don't really believe in what's going
on here, and or
we don't believe in Jari's ability to
get us where we want to go
because we believe in what's going on here,
we think Skinner is a better option,
which to me makes this trade
look even worse for Edmonton
because they're basically saying,
hey, we believe in Jari,
but even though Pittsburgh really doesn't.
So weird trade all around.
I don't like this move for the Oilers.
I think it's a very lateral move
and they paid a high price for it.
Should there be another...
Pittsburgh have another move in mind then?
This may not be their end game.
I see what Ethan's saying,
and I get that, like...
But if I'm Pittsburgh,
And I'm having a better than I expected season, and they're playing very well with the roster they have.
Maybe they have another move in mind.
Maybe Skinner isn't the end game.
Maybe they're going to try to bring in another goaltender from somewhere else.
They have the wherewithal that Kyle Dubus that maybe Edmont and Stan Bowman didn't have.
Okay, so that would make Skinner their backup if they go after another goaltender?
No, maybe they're going to flip Skinner.
Who knows?
Flip Skinner.
Okay.
Oh, there you go.
And he had to trade Stasney from Nashville for a 2027 third round pick.
and the belief that Stasney is the replacement for Brett Kulak.
Do you believe that?
Could be.
Could be.
Nashville, it's tough to gauge guys, right?
Like, they've been pretty awful for a couple of years now, defensively, particularly.
Certainly, number the analytics that I'm looking at that I can't think of the advanced metrics.
Thank you, Brain, for...
The advanced metrics.
Yes, just my brain wouldn't get those words to my mouth.
Certainly indicate that there's a higher ceiling there than what we've seen in Nashville,
and, you know, we know what to expect.
from Brett Kulak. So if they're looking for a replacement, potentially, yeah.
Just on the numbers to back up, David, here. According to hockey stat cards,
Kulak has a negative 1.1 defensive rating, a negative 5.4 offensive rating. So a negative
6.5 rating. Spencer Stasney has a negative.6 offensive rating, a plus 1.4
defensive rating. So that is a significant upgrade there based on the underlying metrics.
All right. Carter Hart is currently playing for the Vegas Golden Knights. As you know, he is
one of the five players accorded in the
Hockey Canada sexual assault
trial. He's also one of two
of those five players that
have gained a kick of the tires
by the NHL.
And I say one of two because Dylan Dubay
is getting a professional tryout
for the St. Louis Blues
A HL affiliate in the
Springfield Thunderbirds.
So that's not a hit
near here or there. But
back to heart last night. Go
the nights with the Philadelphia.
The Go to Nights did not start Carter Hart.
In fact, the Go to Nights did not hold any media availability for Carter Hart.
No.
Roy, you should reference that Philadelphia was Carter Hart's former team.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yes.
Yes.
As I was about to say that, you're absolutely right.
Former team, the Philadelphia Flyers.
So.
Second round pick in 2016.
Yeah.
So get this, though.
Like, not only did they not make them available to the media.
not only did they not start him, but because of the fan reaction in Philadelphia being so negative that they had extra security around the Vegas bench where Hart was sitting.
Just in case, you know, the fans, I mean, you know, we've seen what's what can happen in Philly.
We've seen, you know, Tidomi, penalty box, just saying it's happened before.
A little different situation.
I'll obviously the anger toward Hart would be obviously different than what Tidomi was facing that night.
But still, just a very odd situation.
And I think we can all agree, cowards?
Yeah, my main issue is not making him available to the media.
I mean...
Face the music!
When the Stall Brothers did what they did during Pride Night,
which was not wear Pride jerseys,
in fact, not even attend pre-game skate
because they didn't want to wear the Pride jerseys,
at least the Panthers put them out there on the fire end line,
and the media asked the questions.
They didn't even...
Going to nights didn't even do that for Carter Hart.
No. He's not.
on a podcast.
That's, you know, where he can control what questions or ask.
This whole thing from Vegas has been absolutely ridiculous.
All right.
Anytime you have to release a statement, anytime you sign a player, you probably shouldn't
assign that player.
Then they throw Mark Lazarus out of their practice facility, revoke his credential, a very
credible and good reporter for the athletic, because he was willing to ask the questions
and make them face the music.
And then this whole saga here, whether they don't even play him against Philly,
they go with the rotation excuse, and then they don't even put him in front.
of the media. Look, we all know how Vegas operates, okay? Clearly, they don't care about these
accusations. The only thing they care about is they feel like Carter Hart can contribute to
winning and they continue to make cowardly moves to protect a guy that doesn't deserve to be
protected. It's ridiculous behavior from the Vegas Golden Knights and we should hold our
organizations and this league to a higher standard to make them more accountable for these kinds
of actions. It's terrible and they need to do a better job. I mean, you would think that would
happen. You would think that would happen. No, you wouldn't, Roy, because Vegas has a track record
of doing this same thing over and over and over again. In the real world, you would think
that would happen. Of course. Not in this league. We're seeing far too many people in this
league getting second, third, fourth, and fifth chances in this league. It's very infuriating
and whatever, man. Like, all right, we're going to move off this subject right now because
we have punishments to pay. And Rose has
some explanations about
what we have to do.
Okay, so yeah, we've been playing
this game where
David and I sock.
So the three
of us lost and we haven't paid
our dues so we're going to do it right now
and we're going to stick our hands on
waterized and we're going to make Ethan
do it also. Why? I'm not even a
participant in the game and I have
to be in the punishment. Yes, because then
he says we're cry babies. So he
is also going to do it and I'm not
I haven't even done it yet. Let me see how you guys behave.
And then I'll see if you guys are cry babies.
No.
There's video footage.
Oh, okay, fair, fair, fair, yeah, yeah, fair.
Why have you not seen that, Mr. Producer?
I've seen them.
All right.
You know what time is that, boys?
Yes, we just talked about.
Okay, it's freezing time.
Come on.
Here we go.
All right.
You're going to put our hands in this water.
Oh, wow.
I didn't even put it in.
Now, now.
Now?
Now?
No.
For the entire song.
The entire.
Come on.
Come on.
Okay, here we go.
Go?
Go?
No, both hands?
Put your hands!
Okay, hold on.
Let me take my ring off.
Oh, come on my ring.
All right, here we go.
All right.
All right, my hands on this water right now.
This is too loud!
Okay, that's cold.
I don't care.
That's really cold.
I'm telling you.
I'm glad you're doing.
This sucks.
I know, bro.
All right.
All right.
Does anybody have anything to say about hockey currently?
No!
No!
This is left.
The desk is going to lower.
The Panthers giving up 20 shots to the avalanche in the first period was a really bad idea.
Yeah, that's not good.
Give up a goal in the first.
Okay, no, no, no, no, I give up, I give up, no.
How long is it gone?
I don't know.
All right, all right.
I don't think it's been a minute.
I'm yelling because of music.
Take your hands out, God, damn it.
Oh, my computer.
So, that was your first time, boy?
Oh, my hands are.
My hands are still in it.
I am so glad that everybody got to.
Hey, get out of there.
Why?
Has it been a minute?
It's been more than a minute.
It's been more than a minute.
Oh, my hands are so cold.
What are you trying to do, to prove something?
Yes, I'm trying to prove a point to I'm a man.
I'm a man.
Everybody, you're 40.
I'm a man.
All right, my hands are out now.
All right.
That was terrible.
Okay.
All right.
I'm drawing my hands off because I can't touch a lot of.
all right it is time for puck luck it's brought to you by drag kings draft kings the crown is yours
david you can go ahead and try to win people money even though we haven't yet thanks for that
roy sorry um yes we are this is going to be the week for puck luck i have a good good feeling
that we're going to hit it this week uh this week there's only two games tonight though so we had
to get a little selective uh first off we're going to do chicago the black hawks roy
You love the Blackhawks.
Yeah, I love the Blackhawks.
They're in St.
Louis tonight.
We're going to take Tyler Bertuzi to go over his shots of one and a half.
He's hit that in five of his last six, in eight of his last 10, in 13 of his last 16.
He also had four shots on five attempts when Chicago played in St. Louis earlier this season.
And then we're going to take the Chicago Money Line from that game.
The Blackhawks haven't been playing that well lately, but they are fresh off an impressive three.
Nothing went over the Rangers earlier this week.
St. Louis is playing on the second end of a back-to-back, playing for the third time in four nights.
The Blues have also lost each of their last two games by a combined store of 12 to 2.
And as I mentioned before, they lost earlier this season at home to Chicago, 8 to 3.
Final leg of the parley.
You keeping up with me, Roy?
Yeah.
Beautiful.
Brandon Martin Tor, our old Panthers friend, has been absolutely ripping puck lately.
So we're going to take him over his two and a half shots on goal prop.
He's hit that in five of his past six.
Total odds on this parlay this week is plus five.
So go make yourself some money.
I'll be riding with you.
Let's do it, Roy.
I cannot feel my hands.
It is time.
Because you're a tough guy.
For the hockey.
I'm sorry.
Stat of the week.
See, now, when you point at me and you made me think, like you flip the thing.
I didn't think.
The hockey.
The game.
Hey, guys.
Hi.
We were just talking to you.
What are you doing?
That's my thing.
Okay.
Not as analytical this week, boys.
This one's pretty simple.
I heard this one on one.
What Chaos Yesterday, and I'm updating it after last night's game.
Nathan McKinnon has been involved in 44, five-on-five goals this season.
The Seattle Cracken have 42 five-on-five goals this season.
Wow.
That guy's pretty good.
Yeah.
That guy's pretty good, and that team is pretty good.
Send the heart ballot now?
Yeah.
I don't think there's any competition.
It's him in my car right now.
Like, it's, it's, the two teammates battling it out.
He has been unbelievable this year.
That team has been unbelievable this year.
And that train kept on rolling last night in Denver.
They are, they feel unstoppable.
We'll see how it, you know, goes come playoff time.
It's December 12th.
That team is pretty, pretty exceptional right now.
All right, it is time for Rosa in a minute.
Rosie, go ahead.
Come on, kids.
Let's get this started.
And, oh, hey, joh.
This is a minute of hockey with Rose.
This time we're talking to Toronto,
where all of it's intense,
even when they're
ralphill.
The Maple Leafs
are a week
for a second
under Montreal
Colorado Field
Let's Margotte
for regular and shootout
clearly.
This is personal
Toronto empat
but other
a time, but other
back.
Then he got a
calm and the
milaro of the porteria.
Denis Gilbert
concied his first
shout-out
in the NHL
SHOW!
In the victory
2-0
against Tampa Bay
Bay.
So, Toronto
he left
in zero
a Cuccherov
and Braden Point.
Nobody knew
that's
but the same
last month
turned
with a month
against
San Jose,
the lives
Garaband 2-0.
And even
10-0-0-time.
One of the first
for the mark
the marker,
the winner,
and the winner,
Toronto,
did make to do
do you know what
does it.
So,
so, Austin Matthews
still describing
that's
that's seven goals
to superar
to the franchise.
As far as
the franchise,
so the Toronto,
the summer
with a victory
and two
derrottes.
Much talent,
much noise,
and most
suspense.
So this was
a minute of
hockey with
Rose,
to resume
to resume,
a podcast,
and a bit
a bit of
a minute.
Rosie, you go ahead.
Hey,
kids,
And this week we're heading to Toronto where everything is intense, even when they lose.
The Maple Leafs fired the week with a 2-1-lust-on-1 trial.
Cole Field scoring the regulations and this shoot-out.
And at this point, it's really personal.
Toronto tied, but once again came up short.
Then came a calm and a miracle net.
Dennis Hilbert earned his first NHL shot out, a stopping 25-9 shots and 2-0 win with Tampa Bay.
Shootout.
Toronto shot out, good shot out, and bright end point.
Nobody saw that coming.
Nope.
Let's keep a rally.
But the week ended with the Luke's drama
against the San Jose.
The leaves were up to zero
and still lost three, two over time.
Wernabird scored the winner
and Toronto went back to doing what does best.
Suffer.
Yeah.
That said, Asamathic keeps making history.
He's now seven goals away
from passing Matt Soudon
at the franchise's all-time leading scorer.
So Toronto finish with a week with one win,
two losers, a ton of talent,
ton of noises, and the same suspense as always.
This was one minute of Factor with Rose
Your weekly weekup of park, passion
A little bit of chaos
All right, it is time for wins and fails of the week
It's presented by Yeager Meister, serve it cold or don't serve it at all
Yeager Meister, damn, that's cold for more
Visit yagermeister.com drink responsibly, what's your win?
My win of the week, it's very visual, it's beautiful.
Earlier this week, the other night the Rangers
were in Chicago
For a matchup of original six franchises
That's right, there's no audio, Rose.
That's right, Rose.
Thank you for that behind the scenes peek into, uh, there is no audio on my win of the week
because all you got to do is use your eyes.
Are your hands still cold?
Why is it every time I start talking about something?
I'm sick.
I'm so sorry.
I've been sick.
Can I come on, please?
Oh, Dave.
All right.
Can I, can we get the picture up, please, that I've been talking about?
Look at that.
Wow.
They're both wearing dark colored jerseys, road jerseys, home jerseys, whatever time frame.
Red and blue.
Red and blue.
We've seen it a couple of times this year
where each team has worn their color steam jersey
The NHL has come out and said they're okay with it
Hopefully we see more of it
I think it's amazing I love it
It's beautiful on the eyes
They're encouraging this apparently the NHL
I read yesterday that they're encouraging more
Color on Color matchups including the stadium series
Which we'll talk about later
My winner
Yes we can agree on that
Dark versus Dark
Excellent all right
My winner the week belongs to people with
Punchable Faces
The Athletic did their player serve
surveyed. They do it every year. And one of the
questions was, who has the most punchable
face? Now, take a look at this.
One is Nick Cousins. We all know that.
Number two is Brad Mawshand.
And number three is Matthew Kachuk.
All right, so we have one former panther.
We have two current Panthers.
Another Panther, Aaron Eggblad, received votes.
And on that list as well
is Sam Benin. So four of the top
seven are Panthers related?
Yes. That's the style of play that has
gotten the Panthers, three
straight conference championships
and two straight Stanley Cups.
I think Ned Cousins has been on the top of this list a couple of times.
I don't think this is the first time.
I think it happened when he was down with the Panthers too.
No, no, you're right.
And if you are the former Arizona coyotes, you know, he has a punchable face.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Ethan.
Oh, I guess I'm next.
Okay.
I mean, that's what you.
The order is usually, him, me and you, and then Rosie.
Got it.
All right, we got to go quick.
My win of the week is this unreal assist from this might.
Mighty Mike, look at this, falling down the Ovechkin to his buddy who, I mean, great finish here, man.
I mean, this is going like upper 90 top shelf where Mrs. Muller keeps a peanut putter.
I mean, that is an awesome play there.
You watched him get taken down.
No call.
I love the Mighty Mites game at the Panthers, like during the intermission when the little kids run around.
It's hilarious.
They get the go horn.
That's awesome.
If you're a mite, you're playing in a game in the NHL arena and they play that.
They last that goal horn for you when you score.
Oh, I can't imagine.
Rosie, what you win?
My win of the week goes, this is a spoiler,
so if you haven't watched Stranger Things, just take it off.
My win of the week goes.
What are you doing?
Episode 4 of Stranger Things, the Sorcer.
Yeah, Will.
My God.
Yes, Will.
We were not expecting, well, I was expecting it,
but we were not expected that soon.
Did not see that coming.
Next, you can go to your fails now.
Sure.
Dave, what's your fail?
Other than how excitedly I was texting Rose
when I watched that episode the other day.
I don't understand where you got.
My fail of the week, earlier this week on the same night,
there were two major defensive fails that incurred
in two different games in literally the final second of each
that cost that team a point, and in one case, two points.
In Pittsburgh, Eric Carlson used his glove
to knock in a shot from behind the net by Bennett Seneca
with a tenth of a second on the clock, Roy.
Zero point one.
Buzz a beater.
Zero point one, dude.
And then Anaheim went on to win that game in a shootout.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. I can't believe his own defenseman did it. Yuck. A couple hours later in...
Hate that, man. I hate it.
A couple hours later in Edmonton, Connor McDavid scored with exactly one second left to tie Buffalo at three.
A game that the Sabres led three to nothing after two periods.
I mean, you come to expect that with Buffalo, my third favorite team.
I must have been betting on them.
Yeah. You must have been.
I don't even want to talk about it last night.
You haven't learned your lesson yet.
bet the sabers and you don't bet the sharks.
No, I don't warn anything.
Anyway, so my fail of the week actually ties
into Rose's fail of the week.
Yeah, my fail of the week ties there because
one second left and
McDavid scores, and then they
still went home with a loss.
They did not cash in, so I think
the admittalers are my fail this week.
Okay, well, there you go. My fail of the week goes
to skate blades because we have
been seeing this often. One Fogel
who plays for the canes currently
already had a broken stick, right?
he had a broken stick.
Now he has no stick and he comes up to try to block a shot
and he pulls away and it ends up hitting a skate.
And the skate blade comes off.
So now he is forced because you can't skate on one blade to crawl to the bench.
What a disaster.
I love this image of the play just going on as he's just crawling.
Why have we not seen this practice though?
Like this happens all the time.
Because it's slow.
No, but they should be practicing getting on.
off the ice fast when you lose a skate blade.
Like, this should be a drill because it happens so often.
Like, right?
Am I wrong?
Like, they should be practicing.
They're used to skating in all their gear.
Are they used to crawling in all their gear?
I don't think so.
So you're going to have to push on with one knee on the ice.
Or get another guy to grab the bad blade and just push you off like a lawnmower.
But then you have, then it's just three players playing hockey.
Or give him a shove towards the bench.
There's got to be better ways than having to drive crawl across the ice like an idiot.
Going across the ice on that one, that must have been a disaster.
He couldn't have felt very cool.
scared. Ethan, what you fail? My fail comes from that Edmonton
Buffalo game we mentioned earlier. Evan Bouchard. He's always
there for us when we need him. Look at this turnover. Tate Chomschen just steals the
puck right off of his stick, finishes right out in front. I mean, this is the kind
of defense that's going to be playing in front of Tresenjari. So good luck,
Edmonton. Have fun with that. Good luck, Trisenjari. I'm sure it'll be the same as
playing behind Eric Carlson and Chris LaTang and Sidney Crosby and Evgeny Malkin. I'm sure
that playing behind Heaven Bouchard
and Darnell Nurse will be the same as that.
Have fun with that. Good luck, Edmonton.
That's the kind of like the defense on the island.
As you remember, Tony DeAngelo with that
just a disastrous turnover.
That was my fail last week.
Yeah, that was a straight-up pepperoni pizza, man.
Yeah, with extra cheese.
Well done.
All right.
If you are watching on Draft King's Network,
we have Jordan McPherson.
He writes for the Miami Herald.
He is the Florida Panthers Beach.
writer. We are going to talk Panthers with him in a little bit, but he's going to create some
scenarios that we are going to argue about. And that is coming up next. So, yeah, most likely
we are going to end up being angry and yelling at each other at this. Keep the frozen water
away from me. Yeah, my hands are starting to warm up. I'm starting to feel better. So yes.
All right. You can listen to that interview and watch that interview on YouTube and on the audio

John McPherson of the Miami Herald joins us here today.
We were talking about Panthers in a little bit,
but you have some scenarios for us that most likely will have us yelling at either you or Ethan.
Yeah, probably.
You guys always yell at me.
Yeah.
And again, these are all the usual, like, press box banters.
David and I, basically, every time we're in the press box, just random conversations that...
Between you yelling at me for not cheering in the press box.
Well, yeah, that too.
Yeah.
I mean, when money's on the line, you know...
They want to say they come!
No, that was the ox press box.
I was not totally acceptable.
Totally acceptable.
I have no, I was not physically there for that one, so I will just abstain from that guy.
By the way.
I've known Jordan the longest of any person in this one.
Why are you bringing...
Well, that's only because Jeremy Tashay isn't here.
That's only because Jeremy does it.
No, forget Ethan.
Gator stick together, man.
Stop!
Shut up!
Go ahead.
Geez.
Go ahead.
Really territorial.
My friend.
All right.
So the first one, which David and I, again, I have this argument with David or conversation
David almost every time when a puck hits the post, puckets and that's something,
but it's not counted as a shot on goal despite it hits the goal, but it's not a shot on goal.
Yeah.
It's literally a shot on goal.
It's the most ridiculous thing.
It's literally a shot on goal.
somebody should get credit for that
I know why you're complaining about it's the same thing
that I'm going to complain about it because
this is money
these goals I mean if you are betting on shots
for a player prop
obviously if you hit the post
and then all of a sudden you come up one shot short
of getting paid I have a theory
I have a theory
the reason this is not a shot on goal is because
the stat keepers are lazy and they don't want to have
to also keep a stat for unsaved shots
shots because it shouldn't count as a save because the goalie didn't make the save,
it hit the post.
But they don't want to keep the stat unsaved shots, so they just leave it as shots on
goal doesn't, the goalie has to actually make a save.
Well, your theory is kind of busted if you think about advanced metrics with Corsi
and Finwick.
So you've been shot attempts and, of course, their shots are unblocked.
True.
That could be a third one, though.
Like, they could start keeping track of shots off post.
So are you going to name it?
Shots off post
Shots off post
NHL.com
they do sort of have it
when they break down
miss shots
they do miss wide
miss high
miss net
or miss post
or whatever
but this isn't a miss
exactly
yeah
well it's classified as a miss
now because it's not
a shot on goal
by their
but it's not a myth
I know
I know
I know yes
see
as a goaltender
you should love this
Dave because it
it
keeps less track
of how many
shots have gotten by you
because I love my
goalposts they're my friend
it's not going to
affect the safe
It's not going to affect the goals against average, unless you go a bar down or something.
But, yeah, I mean, come on, man.
But you just brought up an interesting point.
It's not just pucks off post.
It's shots off post.
It's shots off post and in, shots off post and out, shots off posts that create rebound opportunities.
Like, we're creating a whole other thing of analytics here.
A shot that goes off the bar and in counts as a shot on goal.
So why should a shot?
Because it's a goal.
Right.
But if it's one inch this way, it doesn't mean that it should count as a shot on goal.
versus being one inch that way.
Wow, that is the ultimate semantics discussion.
You know, who gets credit off a deflection?
We are in the weeds, boys.
This is inside hockey, ladies and john.
All right, you have another scenario.
I have a couple other, but again, I don't think anything's going to top that one.
I felt like we hit the gate as hard as we could go over.
Looking at your list, I see some piss and vinegar that could be coming.
A couple other ones, Roy and I've discussed this one.
When a player gets called for embellishment, why does the original penalty still stand?
Yeah, that's true
If it's a tripping call
And the referee is looking
Straight at the trip
Now if it's an actual trip
I can understand them
I can understand a referee calling a trip
But if it's not a trip and just a dive
That should not happen
But if it's an actual trip
What's the embellishment?
The embellishment is the actual
So there's
I have long been on the theory of
You can't have an embellishment
If you actually have a penalty
Yes
But I was at the Preds game recently
and Erod hooked a guy
definitively, but he really
sold it. I can't remember which player it was.
Really sold it. And I'm like, okay, now
I see how you can have a penalty and
embellishment on the same play. Definitely a
sliding scale, but I've seen
plays where like a guy just, it's like
soccer, where like nothing happens
but a guy is on the ice like he just got shot.
Or, yeah, flopping, whether it's
soccer or basketball or... Yeah, no, for sure.
The flopping exists. It does not have to be a
penalty. I cannot remember
ever seeing embellishment called
by itself. I cannot recall that
happening once. It must
have been doing a Panthers game. It probably happened
at some point. And we're probably trying to
burn it out of our memories. Yes. You know
what penalty you don't see that on? You don't see it on
ruffing. You see somebody
get punched in the face with a glove.
I mean, you know, when you get punched
in the face. Or it didn't get punched in the face, but
the player ends up yanking the headbag.
Yeah. Can they make a movie about that
with Nicholas Cage? Like
a prize fight? Snake eyes.
guys. Anybody? Anybody? Yes, Gary Senise.
Yes. Yes.
Fellow old crumajun. Well, it was like a
rain. It was a rain. There was rain outside on like
a hurricane? There's some kind of
rain. There's a prize fight. The guy took
a dive. Replay showed he took a dive.
And then somebody got shot in the rain. It was a crazy
movie. And Gary Sinise, of course, was
the bad guy. Spoiler alert. Oh, thanks a lot.
Thanks for that.
No, it's just, you know, typical good
90s movie. Nicholas Cage.
Fobe. Should have been a Superman.
Do you have another scenario?
The other two are sort of
revolving both just sticking with the penalty part, a team that commits a penalty, the four who
are still on the ice after the penalty should take that first shift of the PK.
Like icing.
Exactly.
I like it.
So if like, like, Matthew K. Chuck, for example, somebody you'd never see on the P.K.
If he's out there for a penalty, he starts the penalty kill.
You got the fourth line out there.
It's up to the team to clear the zone.
Fourth line, third pair, Uvis Blinskis takes a penalty.
Is your fourth line in Petrie or that first shift?
You have to hope you can, you have to hope you clear that puck right away and get to the bench.
That would be a disaster, man.
No, but this could make things more interesting.
I like it.
And it will force teams to have everybody practicing P.K., not just having your rotation of five to six forward and your top four defendants.
We are changing hockey practices right here, right now.
We're crawling drills.
Okay?
Crawling drills when you don't have a skate blade in.
How not to embellish.
And now everybody's in on the PKK.
Yes.
everybody's in like that practice is definitely going to be different how you construct lines is going to be different than that yeah yeah this reminds me as something we were talking about earlier like why have pregame warmups not changed in a hundred years that's true like in fact people in the media rely on these uh on pregame skates just because we know what's coming yeah we know when it's eight minutes and 20 some seconds left exactly just start looking for looking for the line rushes yeah hockey is just like baseball but why can't these guys like what if somebody
wants to work on accuracy in the corner? What if somebody wants to work on tipping? What if somebody
wants to work on face-offs? Like, these guys should be able to choose what they want to warm up
before the game. Why aren't there multiple, why isn't it more lucy-ducy? Like, you see the players
out there talking to their families, having fun with kids, throwing puck, so clearly it's not a
super serious situation. Why have we not changed warm-ups in a billion years? And I, you know what?
If I'm disparaging to my goaltenders, because the point is to warm us up, I'm sorry.
But I'm bored.
You're bored. You're bored. But again, the goalies are only.
in the net for a few minutes of that warm-up period.
So keep those few minutes the same, and then go wild.
Again, you have 18 minutes.
You have 18 minutes. You don't have to unlock that 18 minutes
that are the exact same thing every single time.
How do you agree with that?
Yeah, you can't forget.
At the end of pre-game skate, you've got to have that one guy that stays out there
and shoot all the way down the ice.
He loves watching AJ Greer do his thing on it.
Hey, man.
The game depends.
If it's win or loss, it all depends.
Eventually, he's going to have that chance to have a cross-ice,
empty that shot.
He needs to be ready for it.
Yes, that's practice right there.
I like the idea of, like, Paul Maurice out there dropping pucks for face-offs for guys, because, like, it's not like the refs, unless the refs take warm-ups, too, and they're out there just dropping bucks.
No, the players got to do it for themselves.
Or even better, Carter Verhege dropping a puck for Rino.
Whoever the backup goaltender is dropping the puckes for face-offs.
In full pad.
Give me a Daniel Terrace off or Sergey Mavrovsky right in the middle of Anton Lundell and Etteu-Louis Ryan and going for face-offs.
Boy, we are in the week.
No, man.
We are.
Stop that.
innovating hockey right now is what we're doing.
All right.
Yeah, you know, that just makes me think of Paul Maurice at practice with the puck line.
Oh, God.
Yeah, those first days of training camp?
Yeah.
Explain that.
Yeah, the first days of training camp when Paul Maurice just wants to absolutely just tear them apart.
He lines 10 pucks up at Center Ice.
And for each puck, the players have to do a board battle, do a lap, repeat it the other way.
So player A, doing the board battle, player B, do a lap.
Player B, with player A, do a lap.
He throws one puck away.
You repeat until he heard no pucks left.
Day one, there are 10 pucks.
It's a half hour to 45 minutes the first day,
and it goes back about five minutes or so each day up until their first preseason game.
The players absolutely hate it.
But at the end of the day, they realize how beneficial is.
I mean, look at the first cup point in game seven.
They basically replicated what they did on day one of practice to close out their first Stanley Cup victory.
And the Eastern Conference final day.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Had the book.
It is a Stanley Cup winning formula.
Jordan.
During preseason, just one second, Ethan, I remember just watching Paul do that and thinking
to myself, what the hell is he thinking out there when he's standing by himself with
nobody talking him, nobody around him.
And you see the smirk on his face when it's happening.
So I asked him, I'm like, are you thinking about groceries?
Are you laughing at guys getting destroyed?
And he's like, honestly, I'm just looking to see who's standing out.
Whether it's good, bad, whatever.
But I didn't buy that answer to you.
It looks like he's having too much fun out there.
And we're probably never going to get the real answer until after everything's all said.
And the funniest thing is seeing the players just slide, either belly first or ass down to send an ice once they get to that meeting at the end of those drills.
Oh, it's worse than a bag.
It takes a while for the room to open up on those first days of training camp.
Jordan, I have a scenario for you.
Go for it.
From fan to media member.
Okay, I was at a game, the prets game we talked about earlier.
I was going to say, like, you know, the Preds game we talked about earlier.
You know, he's debatable.
Maybe.
Give me a credential, but maybe.
I go to these games as fans.
So a couple, we were speaking about the Nashville game,
and something happened at that Nashville game
that I've been wanting to discuss on this show, okay?
Give me a behavior report here on fans starting the wave.
I know you hate the wave.
I hate it.
Absolutely.
In a one-nothing game in the third period.
It's the equivalent of playing pepas before the game's locked out for the heat fans.
Oh, no.
Which happens all the time.
Although one wave scenario that I did see on so.
media that I would be fully supportive of Colorado from the top of the stadium all the way to
the bottom and they can replicate an avalanche.
That's full.
I would be fully on board.
But that's not a wave. No.
That is not a wave adjacent.
It's an avalanche.
I'd be worried though that like, somebody said to get into it and toppled down.
Go like this.
Yeah.
The hands are going down and it starts up and they just go all and they just go down.
They just replicate from the very top all the way down to all the way to ice level.
Interesting.
I used to get really mad at Gator Games, Jordan, because people would do the wave when we were on offense, and so the crowd would be going to crazy while we're on offense.
I'd be telling everybody around me, shut the fuck up, we're on offense.
Look at Rose, and she's pissed off now.
What are you doing?
She has to do one bleep on YouTube.
Rose, I got to warn you, I dropped a few F bombs during the punishment.
Oh, me too.
Oh, no.
I'm glad you said that now.
I heard a couple of them slipped out.
But hold on a second.
Hold on a second.
I just realized something.
Are you wearing all that shit because you knew he was coming in today?
Well, I got this jersey recently, and then when I heard Jordan was in, I'm like, this is too easy.
On audio, Ethan is wearing a Gator's, fake-caughty jersey, and a fake gator's cat.
Have some good.
I must be fake.
Gator stuff, and I saw this the other day, and I was like, yes.
All right, enough of the Gators.
Next scenario.
All right, yeah, last one, just sticking with the PK, I'm a big fan of the jailbreak rule.
If you get a short-hand goal, penalty is over.
But not just if it's on PK, if you're four on four, three on three, whatever, if you score, your teammate gets out of the box.
If it's four on four on four, you score a four on four goal, your guy gets out of the box and you get a power play for the rest of the penalty for the opponent.
Yeah.
As I said before, the NHL hates change.
It's one of the easiest change.
It's one of the easiest change, and just similar to the other one where your first group stays on there for the opening PK shift, it's going to open things up.
Again, you're going to be seeing more chance from the team that's shorthanded, at which point open.
opened up everything for the rush on the other end.
It's better for teams who have an aggressive penalty goal.
Absolutely.
They do this in the PWHL, don't it?
They do this rule in the PWHL?
Yes, absolutely.
I know Jeff Merrick has been championing this.
Championing.
Championing.
Championing.
Championing this rule.
I love it.
I think it would be a great idea.
And it would force teams to go for it short-handed and try and score goals
because it gives them a reason to go for it as well.
It would be awesome.
David, you have a scenario.
It's just something I'd like to see change that I think would be pretty cool.
Jordan and I were talking about this on the way to the studio today.
I think teams should install mirrors in the away team penalty box underneath the glass
along the boards and they're angled in a way that every time that player looks into the mirror,
he sees the faces of all the fans sitting behind him.
And when they look at those mirrors, they see the player's face sitting in the box
and they can antagonize him and they can flip him off and they can do all these things.
to piss him off. And he can't look up because every time he looks into that mirror, all these eyes
around him are going to be looking at him. I think this is an awesome idea that every hockey team
should think about doing in their penalty box. So it's not enough that the fans behind the
guy that's been around forever. They're very good at ignoring all that now. Okay, players
that's like ingrained into their brain, they're perfectly great at ignoring what happens
outside the glass. But when you bring that into their face, it could be a little different.
But what about the side of the penalty box? No, you got them on both sides.
It just wraps around.
I mean, you think about Vancouver in this situation with the green men that they used to do.
The guys dressed up as green.
Yeah, I remember back when Lou was on Vancouver and they were going to the playoffs and Stanley Cup final and all that.
But no, this is, I think this is a great way to create another mental edge over the visiting team.
And, Jordan, you agree with this assessment.
I understand the logic.
I understand the premise.
I'm non-committal now.
I'm neutral now.
Okay.
All right.
We will continue to have Jordan here in the studio talking about the Pantas coming up.
The World Cup is coming back to North America for the first time since 94.
48 teams, these giant stadiums, the whole continent turning into one massive party, I cannot wait.
But actually getting tickets to any of this?
Yeah, that part is brutal.
That's why the game time app has been a total lifesaver.

Jordan McPherson continues with us.
We are talking about the Florida Panthers
as we enter.
The Panthers did.
All right, so the Panthers, coming off of a losing streak,
finally got together this week as they won three in a row.
All right.
They lost four out of five coming into this week, one three in a row.
All on home ice.
They finally took advantage of home ice advantage in this situation
with their 11 out of 12 games.
Yeah.
Finally.
All right?
They needed that.
They needed that desperately, man.
And unfortunately, last night they went in and played the best team in the national hockey league.
And boy, did they look good.
And they looked like the best team in the National Hockey League.
They'll tolerate that at lunch.
They absolutely did.
And, yeah, they gave up a goal very, very, very, very, very early.
I mean, very early.
A minute 45 seconds into the game?
That was minute 14.
Minute 14?
Yeah, it was like 74 seconds.
We had 114.
Yeah, they scored at 1845.
Yeah, okay.
Yeah, a minute 14 into the first period.
They tied going into the second, and then that was it sucks, though,
because, like, that first goal was like the only bad one, I mean, really that,
Teresov gave up.
Yeah.
I mean, he played the whole game, but he was really good.
His Colorado was just, like, relentless.
So when Colorado has that speed, that aggressiveness, and, oh, yeah, it takes 42 shots
on goal compared to Florida's 25.
Yeah.
And Florida on the back half of a back-to-back going into Colorado.
Very unpanthal.
The writing was sort of on the wall for this game.
Yeah.
Yeah, this was like the most scheduled loss of all time, back-to-back in Colorado at altitude.
I know they went to Park City a few days earlier to kind of try and get used to the altitude.
Dude, clearly didn't help.
Colorado coming off a loss as well.
This team is unreal.
Like, when you give up 20 shots in the first period to a team,
it's probably not a good idea.
Not what you want to do.
Dave, you sent me the gift last night.
What did you say about that?
Going to have a bad time.
You're going to have a bad time if you give up 20 shots in the first period.
And that's what the Panthers did.
And Colorado, they just come at you in waves.
Like, it's just so aggressive right now.
They keep the puck hemmed in the zone.
You can't get out.
And when you do get out, they turn it right back over.
and fly up the ice.
I mean, there were so many, there were two breakaway goals, like just so many defensive
breakdowns, just things that are so uncharacteristic from the Panthers.
And that's been kind of the story of this season, even in the games they've won, you know,
that crazy game against, who was it, Columbus, there were defensive breakdowns in that
game that are just, you're not used to seeing from the Panthers.
13 goals that day.
Out in front of the net, like too many, too much traffic.
Here's the situation, though.
There were two back-to-backs within a week.
of each. And there's another one coming up.
They have, I believe,
that lightning game, there's a back-to-back.
No, that's the weekend.
Carolina. Yeah, yeah, yeah, sorry. Carolina
and St. Louis are on a back-to-back. So the Panthers,
it'll be the third back-to-back in like two
weeks for the Panthers. So that brings up
the goaltender scheduling issue. There was nothing
that Terosov could have done in that game. I don't think
there's anything that Bob could have done in that
game. Really? It was just
defensively, it wasn't great.
As Ethan alluded to, when they're giving up that many rush
opportunities, which is exactly the opposite
of what this Panther defensive systems tried to do,
you know that there's a problem.
And when Colorado's doing it as frequently and as easily, really, as they were last night,
that was a little bit jarring.
And I'm curious to see how they respond against the very good Dallas team,
who's right there with Colorado in the standings.
A couple of breakdowns, by the way, in the Utah game that led to a couple of breaks.
Bob was brilliant in the Utah.
That save was unreal.
Yeah.
You talk about Dallas, Roy.
I mean, right now, 51 points for her.
Sorry, David talked about Dallas.
51 points for Colorado 47 for Dallas
If you look at the rest of the league
The next best team has 40 points
That's Carolina and Washington
So these two teams are a cut above right now
Above everybody
And the Panthers are playing them
Two games in a row here
These are two big games
And then they've got to go play the Lightning
Who are red hot on the road in Tampa
And you know how those games always are
So this is a tough stretch for the Panthers right now
If they can come away with
Two, three points in these next two games
That would be really big for them
Yeah, my thing was they need to get four out of the eight points this trip.
They were able to get four out of eight and come back home for basically again.
They have one game where they go back to Carolina, but they have three, four, five, six, seven of their next eight games are either home or in South Florida if you include the Winter Classic.
If they can get four, nine, yeah.
They forgot about that one at Lone Depot parts, the home game.
Yes.
I included that I forgot about the Colorado game after that.
But yes.
But yeah, they only have one more road game after this stretch between the 17th and June.
And January 4th, if they can split this road trip and then take advantage of home ice,
which they didn't do their last time with an extended home stretch outside of the end,
it sets them up well for what they should be doing.
Plus, they hope they can have a guy who's number 19 back sooner rather than later as well.
And they have to take advantage of this home stretch because they've had such a loaded home schedule to start the season
that it's going to get road heavy in the back half.
The Panthers don't have a home Saturday game after January 31st this season.
So they need to take advantage, and the Olympic break could be big for them.
It could also be a problem for them because they're going to have a bunch of guys going over to Milan,
you know, as long as anything works out there, including Matthew Kachuk.
So look, the Panthers, only three points back of the Penguins who just traded their starting
goaltender, five points out of third in the division.
It looks like they're going to have to fight for the wild card here, boys, but they're hanging
around, and that number 19 is going to be back soon, hopefully, which is what they got
to do.
Thinking about this now, it's a shame that the avalanche and the stars are in the same
division.
You're not going to see them in the conference final.
Really is a shame.
Well, you could, though.
Two minutes for being wrong.
What?
What the hell was that?
Okay, well, Colorado and Dallas of one and two hours.
One of them isn't going to fall out of the top.
Yeah, I mean, there's eight points right now between Dallas and Minnesota.
That's the new system.
That's why we don't like it.
That's why we want to go back to 1V8.
Yes.
Yeah.
This might be the final straw that pushes them back to 1 through 8.
It's going to be Dallas and Colorado this year in particular, playing again before the Western Conference Finals.
And most likely we will not see the Kings and the Oilers in the first time for the first time.
Put one up for that, boys.
Put one up for that.
There's still time.
Joyner McPherson, thank you for joining us, sir.
All right.
Thank you to Gino and thank you for Jason for helping us out.
back there in the video room.
It's Fuentes.
Gino.
I just said Gino.
I literally said...
No, it's Michael.
It's the worst.
Mike!
It's the worst, Fentis.
Oh, wow.
I did not say that.
He's my best friend.
I did not say that.
That was not me, Mike.
That was Ethan.
You take it up with him.
Ethan, Rose, thank you for making my hands cold.
And David, brother, I'm sorry.
You know, way to go, tough guy.
A last show of the year is next week.
Brad Williams, and he will give us his Anaheim Ducks Update.
So we'll do that.
And then we will go into 2026 refreshed after covering the Winter Classic.
My name is Roy Bellamy.
This has been The Hockey Show.
Have a great weekend, everybody.
