Starting point is 00:00:30 We've recorded well over 50 episodes, including the live streams, the shop talks, and the prequels. When you look back over the year, what sticks out to you as far as the Data Sack Show, Kostas? Dude, I have to look back in my life, to be honest. Like, did you realize it's been like two years, like
Starting point is 00:00:52 maybe a little bit more than two years? Or something like that, right? Yeah, more than two years. Alex Ferrari- Yeah. And we haven't missed even one week. Like, I don't think I have been so consistent with anything else in my life so far. And I'm quite old. So, I mean, I'm very proud of myself. Yeah, you should be.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Yeah. Okay. It really helps that we have Brooks. I wouldn't do it without him. I agree. But what to say? Like, Brooks, thank you so much. You make me such a better human being.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Like my wife is like much happier. This show has changed my life. No Brooks. What Kostas is actually trying to say is that I'm one of the most consistent parts of his life. That's really what he's trying to say. You are, but okay. Like let's not share that with my wife.
Starting point is 00:01:41 Okay. Like let's keep that. No, but we did. I mean, we had the hundredth episode, which I don't remember the statistics, but that is very rare for podcasts in general. You know, if we want to pat ourselves on the back, which is pretty crazy. And then the other thing that I loved that we did about that we did was we had a bunch of live streams. So this is something we tested way back, but we did six live streams this year. And we also did a live stream and a couple episodes on non-tech topics, like building data teams, which is great.
Starting point is 00:02:20 I love those. And then we introduced Shop talk. What do you think about shop talk? I mean, this is kind of shop talky, but yeah, that's true. I mean, I like it. It's been okay. We introduced that like by the end of the year or so. It's yeah. We haven't done that many of them, but actually it's not like this, the shop talks. It's also, if you remember like a data council
Starting point is 00:02:47 like we had like the live recordings there what i really like about what we are doing here with this show is that we experiment a lot like we try to find like new formats, make it. And okay, it might sound selfish, but it's true. Like primarily make it like good for us, like to enjoy it and our guests. And okay, the thesis here is that like we might have to do that. That's also going to be good for the audience, right? Like if we have fun, like we do like good conversations and the format is like creative, like this is also going to reflect to the value of like people who listen to us. We'll get, but we experimented a lot this past year and I'm looking forward to
Starting point is 00:03:37 experiment even more if possible, like in 2023, that's one of the reasons I would really ask like to the audience out there, like folks, please reach out, let us know how you feel about the stuff that we've done this past year. Any suggestions about anything, like if you would like something to change, or if you have a format that you would like to see out there, or people that you would like to see out there or like people that you would like to see on the show and yeah, please do that because it's not just us and the people that we invite, right, like if it was just for that, we wouldn't publish the shows.
Starting point is 00:04:19 It's for everyone. So please reach out to us and let us know what you think. David Pérez- Yeah, absolutely. Also, you mentioned recording live at Data Council. We're doing that again, actually. Last year, we figured out a way to make it happen. But this year, we're actually partnering with Data Council and we're going to have a full, you know, proper setup and everything.
Starting point is 00:04:40 So reach out to us if you'd love to join us, if you'd love to chat with us. We'd love to have some listeners join and do live Q&A with guests. We think that would be totally awesome. So please reach out to us at datasagshow.com. And yeah, again, I'll reiterate what Kostas said. Please, please give us your feedback. We'd love it.
Starting point is 00:05:00 Kostas Kostasic Yeah. And we should also try to have some swag there to share with also. Yes, we do have swag. Yes. Brooks can make that happen. You know, Kostas, one thing that you mentioned that I think is really an important part of the show for me is that it's a way for me to satisfy my own curiosity. I just feel like it mentally challenges me and I learn so much every week.
Starting point is 00:05:24 And in some ways, it doesn't feel like a podcast. I know that sounds weird, but the conversations are so interesting. It's almost like I get to hop on a call with really smart people, you know, every week and pick their brain about stuff. And it, you know, and this sounds weird, but sometimes I forget that we publish all these conversations. Yeah. It really is a treat. Yeah, it's interesting. And to be honest, like for me, it kind of like, how to say that, like what you're saying, I think it's like probably even more exaggerated in my case
Starting point is 00:06:03 because I'm coming, okay, I was it's like probably even more exaggerated than my case because I'm coming... Okay, I was raised and like lived most of my life like in Europe, in Greece, and podcasts were never like a big thing there. I was there. So I was never like exposed in this medium. I was, I knew that podcast exists, existed, but till I came to the United States, like I was never aware of like how, how of like, you know, like an important medium is for people.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Like there's a lot of people out there, like consuming a lot of content through podcasts. And I'm not talking about like here, like about everything. Right. And I wasn't aware of that. And to be honest, like I, I didn't know I, how to participate in a podcast because I've never experienced it. Right. So
Starting point is 00:06:55 I mean, me either really. For me, it was always, yeah. Like, okay. Let's just like an interesting person. Let's ask, you know, like the questions that I would ask anyway, we were out. And to be honest, like I, the podcast gives me the freedom to also ask things that like, if it was like in like a work context, I would probably not ask. Sure.
Starting point is 00:07:21 So that makes it like even greater for me. So yeah, like it's, I think for us as hosts, it's a great source of like, we don't make sure every time like we. 100%. Yeah. You know, the only challenge with that. So when we eat dinner at my house, we'll ask, did anyone learn anything interesting today?
Starting point is 00:07:45 Right now, just, you know, we have young? We have young kids and we like to talk about ideas and concepts and generally we try to enjoy learning as a family. And they used to ask me, my wife and kids used to ask me, did you learn anything interesting today when it was my turn? And whenever it's a podcast day, I always, yes, I learned something really interesting. And they would say, well, what did you learn about? And I would say things like, well, I learned about how, you know, maybe the future of graph databases is actually, you know, serving as like a really cost efficient upstream data transformation layer in real time when you're trying to accomplish blah, blah, blah, you know.
Starting point is 00:08:27 And after a couple of times of that, they just said, we don't actually cheat. I don't know what you're looking for. When you do that, you should put your marketing hat. That's very true. Yeah, you should not talk about. Yeah. Like.
Starting point is 00:08:48 That is the training ground for product marketing. A hundred percent. Like when did you reach a point where you can have like your wife and your kids be like, Hey, like tell us more, tell us more. Like we want these. Yeah. Like. Can we talk about timely data flow again?
Starting point is 00:09:04 Let's do it. Yeah. Yeah. Like if we talk about timely data flow again, let's do it. Yeah. Yeah. Like, I don't know, like I, you have a quarter and then we are going, I think we should record like a episode with the family and ask them like, how did you do? Yes. That would be amazing. Altizo, did, did you just implement an OKR for me for the data stack show?
Starting point is 00:09:29 Oh, shit. And I'm not on payroll anymore. Like, I'd rather stack it. I draw the line at OKRs. That's when the fun stops. That's true. That's true. That's true.
Starting point is 00:09:41 All right. Well, Brooks is giving us a signal. But before we jump off, what do you, any topics you want to talk about next year in the show? Anything in particular? Brooks Langevaard, I think next year is going to be interesting because, you know, there's like a very powerful sport that saves anything that people do and that's the market, right?
Starting point is 00:09:59 So I think 2023 is going to be a very interesting year for all the companies out there. I think we will see things happening. And I think it's going to be a year for us to learn, to have some very unique opportunities for learning, to learn both about technology, but also about resilience, about companies, about growth and all that stuff that come with changes in the market. So I'm really looking forward to see what 2023 will bring to the industry. And no matter what, it's going to be a positive, like it's going to be hard, but like, yeah, that's part of life.
Starting point is 00:10:47 I think like the really great things come out of yourself like this. So yeah, I'm very interested to see what's, what will happen next year. And we will be there with the show to make sure that we communicate as much as possible from whatever is happening. Absolutely. All right. Well, this has been the 2022 wrap up for the Data Sack show. So many exciting things coming up. Don't forget about Data Council. We mentioned it before. There's a meet and greet. There will be swag. We will be recording live.
