Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to the Data Sacks show prequel. We just got done recording an episode with Kevin Hu of Metaplane. We talked about data observability, but most importantly, Kostas, one of the topics that we covered towards the very end of the show is the similarities between Tilapia the fish and VCs. So that's my question for you. What are the similarities between Tilapia, the fish, and VCs. So that's my question for you. What are the similarities between tilapia and VC? Oh, come on.
Starting point is 00:00:29 Like, I cannot disclose that because, like, we need to reach more people, like, to go and listen to the next episode. Oh, what a teaser. Oh, yeah. I'm sure. Such a cliffhanger. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You have to tune in on the next episode to learn more about the similarities between Tilapia, the fish, and VCs in Silicon Valley.
Starting point is 00:00:50 Absolutely. Okay. In all seriousness, even though we did have some fun actually talking about fish on the show at the beginning and the end, my question is, Kostas, what's unique about Metaplane in terms of data observability? There's tons of companies out there. They all have their own take on how to solve it. What stuck out to you about the approach that Metaplane is taking? That's a very good question. I think, I mean, because this is not like, by the way, the first time that we talked with Kevin.
Starting point is 00:01:19 I think what I really enjoyed talking with him and what I find really unique with the perspective that he has when it comes to observability is actually two things. One, how strong of a belief he has around the importance of lineage and that you can't really have, let's say, true observability without that. And that's what one of the foundations where it's like Metaboys like building on. And the other, which I find it like a very, how to say that, like unique, but very important, let's say characteristic that an entrepreneur who's building a company in new category should have in order to win is that he believes that like things change. And like the terms that we're used today are probably not going to and the terms that we use today are probably not going to be the terms that we use tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:02:09 And even the solution that we have today, it's probably not going to be the same in two years from now. So I would say that these two characteristics that the company and him personally have, has, are like what really distinguishes Menoplay in solving a problem that we are still discovering, right? Like we're trying to define it in a better way. I mean, so yeah, that's, that's my take. Like, and that's what I think, like, I find like really, really interesting outside of his personality, which is amazing by the way.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Oh yeah, it's so fun. Yeah. Yeah, it was fascinating because as an anecdote, another teaser, it was interesting to hear him talk about, you know, let's say a warehouse releases additional metadata features. He said that could basically wipe out a whole subset of companies and sort of the entire observability space.
Starting point is 00:03:02 And that perspective was really unique, especially as he talked about, you know, how they're building the product and how they're helping, you know, data professionals solve problems. So great episode. Definitely check it out. Tell a friend about it
Starting point is 00:03:11 and we will catch you on the next one.
