Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome, everybody. Hope you had a good weekend. We genuinely have a great show today. I actually said to Pat today, let's not immediately delete all evidence of today's show. Like, I think it's a good enough one to include in the archives. We are going to start with global horror or horror, as Bernie Sanders would say, over Donald Trump's first new hires. We suspected it would be wacky. We suspected it would be weaponized. We suspected it would wow the world in terms of incompetence. And it is not disappointing. Let's start with Donald Trump's
Starting point is 00:00:47 announcement that he will be appointing Project 2025 contributor Tom Homan as his, quote, border czar. Donald Trump putting out a post on Troth Central, quote, I am pleased to announce that the former ICE director and stalwart border on border control Tom Homan will be joining the Trump administration in charge of our nation's borders. The borders are including but not limited to the southern border, the northern border, all maritime and aviation security. I've known Tom for a long time and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our borders. Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all deportation of illegal aliens back to their country of origin. Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic and long awaited for job. This is the worst of the worst of the worst. Tom Homan is a real, if one man could be a humanitarian crisis in and of himself, a human rights fiasco, it would be Tom Homan.
Starting point is 00:02:02 He has the mass deportation plans and has expressed his intentions to implement these large scale deportations that Donald Trump has been talking about. He said that he will quote run the largest deportation operation in this country's, uh, this country's ever seen, which as we know is going to be a total disaster. He is a big advocate for family separation. He's promoted the great replacement conspiracy theory of a Democratic plot to systematically replace white people with non-white people in order to something. They always it gets a little shaky at the in order to, but it's still part of it. Uh, Tom Homan's been linked to policies that have faced legal challenges as well as public
Starting point is 00:02:48 outcry, including the use of detention camps for immigrants, which, uh, is constitutionally questionable for sure. Aggressive enforcement strategies, which have raised civil rights concerns, especially when it comes to due process, when it comes to the humane treatment of migrants. If you like law and order, this is the wrong guy. If you like human rights, this is the wrong guy. If you like common sense, this is the wrong guy. Now, in addition to Tom Homan, CNN is reporting that Donald Trump has offered brown nosing suck up Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, just a vomitous person. Trump has offered Stefanik the position
Starting point is 00:03:34 of United Nations ambassador. I'm sorry, United States ambassador to the United Nations, a major humiliation. Stefanik is truly horrible, hard to find a more committed, total brown nosing Trump loyalist. She promoted the 2020 election fraud conspiracy theories. She opposes even basic climate change mitigation initiatives. She's expressed skepticism towards international agreements in general, including the Paris climate agreement. This is one of the underpinnings of the United Nations as a concept, global cooperation. When we enter an agreement, we stick to it. Well, Elise Stefanik doesn't believe that another disaster. And then we have news that Susan Wiles, who was the co-chair of Trump's campaign up until a few days ago, has been selected as Donald Trump's
Starting point is 00:04:33 White House chief of staff. She was the CEO previously of that completely deranged and dysfunctional Save America PAC that Trump had. She will enforce Trump's version of loyalty among his staff. There will be no dissent among the ranks. Uh, the beatings will continue until the morale improves, I think is a slogan or motto that we could very much ascribe to Susan Wiles. So that's horrible. And then of course we still have the to be determined what is Robert F. Kennedy junior going to be doing in this administration? What is Elon Musk going to be doing? So we are days in, I guess six days, five days in and we already have a few selections,
Starting point is 00:05:20 some probable selections and it is completely and totally dystopian. If you are terrified about this, well, I understand why. But later in the show, I will tell you that much of what these picks would seek to do can be resisted by mayors, by governors and others, which just reinforces the importance of the off year elections, the down ballot elections, et cetera. So we will get to that. But I do want to mention someone who will not be hired by Donald Trump. Donald Trump has pre fired Nikki Haley. Nikki, was it all worth it? Remember that Nikki Haley completely humiliated herself after saying Trump is not fit to lead after saying it would be a global and domestic fiasco for Donald Trump to
Starting point is 00:06:14 be president. That's when she was running against him in the primary after she lost. She thought about it after Trump made fun of her husband, who was deployed for not being at her events. After all of it, Nikki Haley, she kissed the ring. She said, well, we're not going to vote for Kamala. So I do support Trump maybe holding out hope for some kind of role in Trump's administration. And Donald Trump has committed the ultimate humiliation of Nikki Haley. He has pre-fired her posting to Troth Central quote, I will not be
Starting point is 00:06:54 inviting former ambassador Nikki Haley or former secretary of state Mike Pompeo to join the Trump administration, which is currently in formation. I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously and would like to thank them for their service to our country. Make America great again. It's not going to happen for Nikki. And you know, I, I, I have to tell you, we saw last week's election as an inflection point for MAGA. If Trump had been defeated last week, it would have effectively been the end of MAGA as an independent political movement. Now with Trump's win, it is likely that the Republican party will be MAGA for a while.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Nikki Haley, as someone who has now been very clearly delineated outside the movement, sorry, Nikki, you're not going to get a role in my administration. She now gets the worst of both worlds. She now has ultimately come around and debased herself after saying unequivocally, this guy can't be president. This guy's dangerous. He's not fit. He's declining. He can't do it. She came out and she said, actually, I'm going to vote for him. And you should to completely embarrassing herself that way. And for what? Because Donald Trump has now said, sorry, Nikki, you're outside of MAGA. And as designated such, she is going to be on the outside of the Republican party looking in. If MAGA continues to be the policy package or ideology that reigns Supreme in 2026 and in 2028,
Starting point is 00:08:35 Nikki Haley through her sequence of running against Trump saying he can't possibly win and debasing herself by saying, actually, you got to wait, You got to vote for him now ends up squarely with nothing. Was it worth it for Nikki? I wonder what she would say privately. Publicly, she will, of course, say, oh, I make decisions not based on someone's whether going whether someone's going to do me a favor by giving me a job. I just make the decision that's right for our country. And Trump was right over Kamala for the country.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Privately, I would be very curious to hear what she says about being pathetically pre fired by Donald Trump. Let's go from a, I guess, non MAGA Republican Nikki Haley, although she did say vote for the guy. So maybe she is MAGA Republican Nikki Haley, although she did say vote for the guy. So maybe she is MAGA. I don't know. Two hardcore ultra giga MAGA cringe MAGA Carrie Lake. I have fantastic news for all of us and for the country and for Arizona and for the world. Carrie Lake has lost again and I am now begging her, Carrie, please go away forever. I don't ever want to hear your name again, except Trump may hire her now and make her
Starting point is 00:09:54 part of his administration. We will get to that. We have new reporting from the Hill. Ruben Gallego, friend of the show, great guy, former guest on the show, soon to be former congressman because he's going to the Senate. Ruben has defeated Carrie Lake. They were starting with the hijinks once again, but it didn't work. Ruben Gallego with 50% of the vote defeating Carrie Lake in Arizona.
Starting point is 00:10:20 It has been called. They're still counting ballots. They could be counting ballots in Arizona for who the hell knows how long, but mathematically it is out of reach for Carrie Lake Rubin at this moment, leading by 66,000 votes. I take great pleasure. I have to call me a bad person. Say, David, that's so mean. I take great pleasure that as recently as yesterday, Carrie Lake was posting excretions to X where she was saying, quote, the deadline to cure ballots is five p.m. tonight. Let's make sure every vote counts. She was still pushing yesterday that she had a chance to win. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:11:08 Forget about curing ballots. She can air fry, poach, saute or grill those ballots. It won't change the fact that she has been rejected again by Arizona voters and it is time for her to go away. Now there's a secondary pathetic Ella secondary. There's so many pathetic elements to Carrie Lake. First of all, it's the pathetic element that she was an Obama supporter previously and she seems to above all else be an opportunist.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Oh, I can get attention by attacking Democrats and hitching my completely whacked out wagon to Donald Trump. I'll do it. And then, of course, she lost in 2022 and Katie Hobbs became governor. And then she says, I'm running again, but I'm still trying to overturn that other election. But I'm running here and she loses again. It's all pathetic. But here's a little pathetic cherry on top.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Her loss is particularly funny given that Trump won Arizona by 185,000 votes with 1.58 million votes and Carrie Lake at latest count lost her Senate race by 66,000 votes with 1.49 million votes. This means that there are about a hundred thousand Arizonans who took the time to vote, supported Donald Trump, voted for Trump and went out of their way not to vote for Carrie Lake down ballot. Think about that. This is how for Carrie Lake down ballot. Think about that. This is how hated Carrie Lake is. This is how on the serious a person and a candidate.
Starting point is 00:12:52 Carrie Lake is that a hundred thousand Arizona Republicans said, Oh Trump, yeah, absolutely. Carrie Lake, I'm going to leave it blank. Maybe vote for the third party candidate. Maybe vote for Ruben Gallego or write somebody else in. They went out of their way not to vote for Carrie Lake, despite the fact that they were in the voting booth, filling out their ballot and voting for Donald Trump. Please let this be the final humiliation for Carrie Lake, who has no business being involved in electoral politics.
Starting point is 00:13:26 She shouldn't be dog catcher. She shouldn't be the person who tries to collect overdue book fees at the local library. She really shouldn't be trusted with any responsibility. And let's hope that she's not. Although I am worried that Donald Trump is going to hire her. Let's take a very quick break. It's a packed program, a lot to look forward at. We're going to look back at a couple of things. Glad you're with us on this Veterans Day. Our program continues to primarily be funded directly by you. I want to say thank you to the now more than 1000 new members who signed up since election day. I'll say a little more about it later, but you can use the coupon code. Not again, all one word, all lowercase, not again. And you have to say it like that. When you type it in, that gets you 75% off, which should be against the law. It's not, but it really should be.
Starting point is 00:18:57 All right. This might be a difficult message for some of the people in my audience. I've received dozens of messages. Okay. I mean, listen, it's not hundreds. It audience. I've received dozens of messages. Okay. I mean, listen, it's not hundreds, it's not thousands, but dozens of messages claiming that there really was voter fraud in 2024 and that this time the voter fraud is why Trump won rather than why Trump lost as he claimed in 2020. It's obvious the people writing to me say no one believes that turnout really declined so much from 2020 David, it can't be clearly Trump's little secret that he alluded to at
Starting point is 00:19:37 one of his final rallies was a plan he had in place to rig and steal the election. Now, I always keep an open mind and I resisted just dismissing this stuff without looking at it because I want to be sure that I am thorough and convincing here. But I looked and there is no evidence I was able to find of even reasons to suspect voter fraud as the reason why Trump won and what I need to communicate. And I say this with peace and love and total humility and, and flattery. When we start this stuff in 2024, we sound like the mega Potamans from 2020. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:21 Trump really lost in 2020 period. There's I don't feel the need to say anything. He lost in 2020. Trump really won in 2024. Now stay with me until the end. I know you're already typing a furious YouTube comment. Just stay with me until the end and then start the attacking comments. Okay. I will tell you where the real tampering is, but first let me lay this out. Now I want to clarify, I'm not doing this for any reason other than we don't want to be like them and make bogus claims. And two, if you don't diagnose the problem, you can't possibly fix it. If you become convinced that your car won't start because the alternator isn't working,
Starting point is 00:21:03 you won't be able to fix the problem. If the issue is there's simply no gas in the gas tank. You've got to diagnose the problem to be able to fix it. The primary claim that people are writing to me about is that in 2020 Biden got 81 million votes and Trump got 74 and supposedly in 2024 Trump got 74 million votes or something like that. Uh, but Harris got only 69 million. And so Harris saw a decline of 12 million votes. That just can't be, there's no way 81 P 81 million people voted Biden in 2020 and only 69 million voted Harris in 2024.
Starting point is 00:21:42 It's, it must be fraud. The first thing is a lot of people started claiming this while votes were still being counted. If we just wait a few days, the numbers change. And the latest projection based on the outstanding vote count right now is that we had 155 million total votes in 2020 and close to 155 million total votes in 2024. Uh, it is indeed true that Trump, uh, uh, had an increase in the number of votes and it is true that, uh, the democratic candidate had a decrease in the number of votes, but the total decline is expected to be about half of 1% in total vote count from 2020 to 2024. This is not the massive decline that some are claiming would be a huge red flag.
Starting point is 00:22:39 Trump's support went up about four and a quarter million. The democratic candidate support went down about 5 million. This is not some huge red flag that some are claiming. Now, another claim has been, we have had so many new voters since 2020 and we're supposed to believe that turnout is down. That must be fraud. What you must understand is that since 2020, many states implemented automatic voter registration. Tons of people were automatically registered. It used to be because you have to choose to register that if you register, you are more
Starting point is 00:23:20 likely to vote than if you are simply automatically registered. It's just not really evidence of fraud. Another claim is that Elon Musk's Starlink satellites may have somehow changed votes. Once again, there is just no evidence of that. I don't even really know how plausible it is, but there is certainly no evidence that it happened. So we simply lost. Kamala Harris was not a good enough candidate to override and supersede a generally negative feeling about the economy.
Starting point is 00:23:58 No matter what the data said, the platform should be fixed. You know, maybe Biden should never have run for reelection. Maybe there should have been a real primary from day one. And lots of people liked what Trump was offering. And there are clueless people. All of those things are true. But we can't start doing like our versions of what they did in 2020. I have an extensive couple of chapters in my book, The Echo Machine. I'm kind of choking here. The Echo Machine about how we got here and the claims that we are now getting about Trump voter fraud. There's just no evidence for them. Now, what is true is that for 20 years, Republicans have worked to disincentivize people from voting, reducing early voting
Starting point is 00:24:47 hours, purging voter rolls, all of those things. It is totally reasonable to believe and to expect that to some degree, Democratic turnout may have been suppressed a little bit by those techniques in critical states. The margins in some of those critical states so extensive that it's hard to believe they would explain Trump's win. I just don't see it. In a recent interview before the election, Trump said that he didn't think his supporters would cause problems after the election, but that the left would saying the left is the enemy from within and might be needed to be handled by the National Guard.
Starting point is 00:25:31 The Washington Times reported this interview with the headline Trump says no chaos from his supporters this Election Day, which totally whitewashes and saying washes what Trump actually said. Luckily, we have ground news, the app and website that provides context on every story. Like for this Trump interview, ground news provides more context. Like Trump's defense secretary said, we should believe Trump when he says he wants to use the military against Americans because that's what he wanted to do during the unrest in the summer of 2020.
Starting point is 00:26:04 That's why ground News is so valuable. I want to give you a little something positive here, just as a reminder that the off year elections, the down ballot elections, this stuff really matters and can have a huge consequential impact. We are now hearing from governors, from mayors, city councils,
Starting point is 00:28:33 that they simply aren't going to participate or help the federal government with Donald Trump's planned mass deportations of initially undocumented immigrants. Although Trump is already talking about just willy nilly revoking temporary protected status from those here legally and trying to deport them as well. First and foremost, Jim McDonald has been sworn in as LAPD chief. And he has said that Los Angeles is not going to comply. They just are not going to do it. He said LAPD will not assist with mass deportations. Los Angeles is a city of immigrants.
Starting point is 00:29:17 I know that immigrants are being disparaged. He said, my job is to protect everyone in Los Angeles and to build trust. That's what I plan to do. There's an aspect to this that I think is often missed when it comes to what does it mean to support law enforcement? What does it mean to actually say we are with the police? When individuals in a city come to believe or come to know if it's the case that that it's what's going to happen. If individuals in a city learn my legal status is going to be the subject of interest in any
Starting point is 00:29:52 interaction with police, you are both more likely not to call the police when it would be appropriate to do so because you may say, I don't want my legal status here questioned. And you are more likely not to cooperate with police when you are the subject of an investigation, a witness, et cetera. It's terrible for law enforcement's ability to do what they are there to do, which is to keep Los Angeles safe. When your interactions with the general public are now clouded by, are they going to ask me for papers? Are they here because Trump sent them to find me or whatever the case may be.
Starting point is 00:30:33 So a lot is being made of this declaration from McDonald when it comes to it being morally and ethically correct. And that's fine. That's a perfectly reasonable analysis to make, but it's also self interested in the sense that police departments, at least when they are led by competent and intelligent people understand that you want an environment in which both witnesses, victims and suspects are more incentivized to cooperate rather than disincentivized. And so as much as I like this, because it's a form of resistance
Starting point is 00:31:05 against Trump's completely inhumane planned mass deportations, it also should be considered that it's what's best for law enforcement. Now in Massachusetts, governor Maura Healey has also said at the state level, we will not cooperate. We will not comply with the mass deportations. Boston.com reports. Governor Maura Healey said that state police would not be used to deport migrants and vowed to use, quote, every tool in the toolbox to counter the next Trump administration. When we think about down ballot and we see, for example, that that whacked out Republican Lieutenant Governor Robinson in North Carolina was defeated by Josh Stein. I just had a moment where is his name actually Josh Stein or did I just get that wrong? Josh Stein. Yes.
Starting point is 00:31:54 Josh Stein, the North Carolina attorney general Democrat who just won as much of a disaster as we all know it is it to be that Trump won the presidency and that Republicans are taking the Senate and it's looking like they're going to take the house. We all, we're all on the same page on that. All hope is not lost when you say, Hey, you know what? Thanks to Maura Healey as governor in Massachusetts, Massachusetts is off the list as far as states that will cooperate with the mass deportation. You can be, although Josh Stein hasn't said one way or the other yet, if Mark Robinson
Starting point is 00:32:30 had won the governorship in North Carolina, you can be damn well sure that he would be assisting Donald Trump in the mass deportations. My assumption and hope is, and maybe he'll, he'll make a statement about it soon. My assumption is that Josh Stein as governor of North Carolina is not going to cooperate in that. And so it's a reminder that the down ballot mattered last week, the off year gubernatorial elections that will be just under 12 months from now, those matter. Mayorships matter. Police chiefs matter. And so the point is, don't think that because these elections are only every two, four and six years, right? House president and Senate two, four and six years. Don't wrongly fall into the belief that all hope is lost and there's nothing worthy of getting involved in next year and the year
Starting point is 00:33:25 after that. So some good news out of California, Gavin Newsom, we talked about last week is forming this special session to try to nuke some of the things that Trump wants to do. There is a lot of value here. All right. You have to see this. I never expected that I would ever be a, be doing a segment like this, but it's where we are. I don't know that I've ever seen a group of sore winners like the MAGA people after last Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Everyone from Charlie Kirk to Dave Rubin, Tim Pool, a streamer named Asmongold are now gleefully taking pleasure in the short period of time during which we in progressive media lost some subscribers after Donald Trump's win last week. They smell blood in the water and they want to end progressive media. Don't believe me? Well, I've got the receipts here. I told you last week, right when Trump won that we and other left wing YouTubers lost some subscribers. We lost about 10,000 Midas touch, lost about 30,000 Brian Tyler Cohen, Jesse Dahlem or others. We were all seeing it.
Starting point is 00:34:38 The loss was really rapid on Wednesday, slower on Thursday and Friday, slowly we started to see gains again. As new people said, I don't like the results. I'm going to find someone that like-minded a media outlet. And they say, I like this. And so by Friday, new subscribers started to outpace the people canceling. Don't get me wrong. There's a ton of people canceling, but the new subscribers are outpacing them. Well the Maga influencers caught wind of this and they are bloodthirsty and they want to end us. They believe that now that Trump won, that now that Trump is going to go after adversarial media, now that Republicans have the Senate, that they can put us out of our misery for
Starting point is 00:35:23 good and destroy independent left wing media. They have become obsessed with this. There are hundreds of hours of videos talking about my explanation of what's going on. Uh, I'll give you some examples. Trump supporting streamer, Tim pool did a video called David Packman says it's over losing subscribers and members begs leftists to please come back. A video in which he laughs and says that our supporters must have been artificially supported by the platforms and they aren't even real subscriber numbers that there's a thumb on the scales was the term he uses that now is being removed because Trump won right wing YouTuber Nate.
Starting point is 00:36:08 The lawyer did a video called top leftist YouTubers losing massive amount of subs after Trump win blame mainstream media. Well, I didn't blame mainstream media. Whether losing 10,000 out of 2.6 million is a lot. Well, I don't know. Big time streamer Asmongold, who I have to tell you, I actually historically kind of like and find very entertaining. Asmongold did a video that now has more than a million views where he says, well, I wonder why Pacman and the left is losing subscribers. Oh, too bad. I'd be glad to appear with Asmongold and talk about this.
Starting point is 00:36:47 Dave Rubin, the arbiter of ideas posted about my report on this. LOL. So long suckers. You guys have lied about everything for years called half the country racist Nazis. I never did that and promoted every loony conspiracy theory all the while being propped up by big tech. Your demise couldn't happen to a worse group of people. He's thrilled. Dave Rubin is thrilled. By the way, he should be since we've surpassed him both in views and subscribers. Obviously, Rubin should be thrilled about what he believes to be my impending demise.
Starting point is 00:37:25 Adam McKay, who you might remember, directed the film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Don't look up tweeted about my video. Good. Legacy media and Dem influencers should lose every drop of credibility after the last checks notes, 35 years. Another major right wing YouTube channel, one of the worst of the worst called the quartering did a video called Kamala Harris shills panic as lies finally catch up. David Pakman has meltdown mass unsubscribes top right winger. Charlie Kirk responded to a thread by right winger Colin rugugg, who has nearly two million followers. Rugg posted my video with the comment Dem influencers are seeing record numbers of subscription cancellations along with Mac mass exodus of followers. And Charlie Kirk responded,
Starting point is 00:38:19 not tired of winning. They love it. Brett Weinstein from the former intellectual dark web sarcastically tweeted, gosh, whatever could be driving the Exodus. Even Juanita Broderick, the woman who formerly accused famously and formerly accused Bill Clinton of sexual assault tweeted about this. And she said gleefully the lies have caught up with them. Maybe if they start telling the truth, things will turn around. I sort of doubt they have that courage. And even the conspiracy website, the gateway pundit picked it up with an article called top leftist pundits are reporting reportedly hemorrhaging subscribers following Kamala's decisive defeat. All right. You get the picture. There's hundreds more, hundreds more. Understand that they want us gone. They smell blood. They think this is their best opportunity
Starting point is 00:39:18 to get rid of us. If Elon Musk has Twitter deprioritize us and maybe Trump goes after us and they attack us and encourage people to cancel. I have to tell you, I kind of respect the game. Let me tell you what I mean. They think we are hugely damaging to the country. We think they are hugely damaging to the country. They have an opportunity here. They are taking it.
Starting point is 00:39:43 They think they can destroy progressive independent media for good. So I'm here to deliver some bad news for them. This lasted about 48 hours and it's going in the opposite direction. We're still fighting. OK, for every two people that are signing up for a membership on my website, one is canceling. There is fatigue. Some people are checking out, but we have way more subscribers today than we ever have.
Starting point is 00:40:07 We had a thousand new paid members in the last week. Yes, 500 canceled. I get it. But we have a thousand new paid members in the last week and we're not going to let them do it. We're just we're not going to let them succeed. So certainly make sure you're subscribed to the YouTube channel. Not just this one. You all know our cohort here on the left online space. If you can afford it,
Starting point is 00:40:31 please do get a membership on my website. You can get 75% off with the code. Not again. We're not going to let them do it. They're being honest. They see an opportunity. They smell blood in the water. I don't think we're going to let them succeed. You watch YouTube, you listen to podcasts, you've heard a ton of ads for VPNs, but all VPNs are pretty much the same except for one. Starting point is 00:42:55 Do you love your new Helix mattress with a full money back guarantee? Helix is giving my audience 25 percent off site wide, plus two free dream pillows with any mattress purchase and a free bedding bundle with any Lux or elite mattress order. Go to Helix Sleep Dotcom slash Pacman. That's H.E.L.I.X. Sleep Dotcom slash Pacman for 25 percent off everything and two free dream pillows with any mattress. The link is in the podcast notes. All right. We have to talk about young men. Trump won almost half the youth vote overall, and he straight up one male voters, 18 to 29 with 56% of that vote.
Starting point is 00:43:43 And much of what we've said so far doesn't really strike many of you as correct. You know, we played the video of these clueless young men saying, I'm voting for Trump because of high gas prices. And we pointed out gas prices are as low as they've been after the pandemic. And that's true, but that's not enough of an explanation. It's not good enough. It's not comprehensive enough. There's way more here.
Starting point is 00:44:03 Now, just a few years back, we were hearing all about how younger generations were supposedly going to be the most progressive in history and so on and so forth. So what exactly changed in 2020? Biden won young men and now Donald Trump won young men with 56%. What happened? Is it as simple as young men prefer to vote for a man rather than a woman? Well, probably a slice of it, but there's way more to it than that. One critical shift has been happening quietly. It's happened almost out of our view. A lot of nonpolitical spaces have become what we can call coded C O D E D coded as right wing.
Starting point is 00:44:49 We're talking here about spaces like fitness content, men's health influencers, dating and relationship channels, workout tips, gaming communities, sports message boards, the business and entrepreneurship channels. These are all areas where conservative values are finding a way in. And these influencers usually aren't waving Trump flags. They're not quoting Fox headlines. The messages are less direct and they'll often start with ideas about self-reliance, traditional masculinity, standing up to woke culture or cancel culture. And it's resonating with a lot of men. They're dealing with a world where they don't feel like they have a lot of control or security.
Starting point is 00:45:40 So you get a message about take control of your life. It speaks to them, even if it's subtly carrying this conservative twist. And there are really countless examples of this. Andrew Tate and these male focus podcasters have made right wing ism feel edgy or rebellious. They talk about rejecting what they see as the softening of men and young men are listening. Even influencers in health or business advice talk about discipline and self-reliance and rejecting victim mentality. These are not necessarily political messages, but they really do align with Trump's style
Starting point is 00:46:19 and his ideology. You can find this with Dr. Drew. You find it with Patrick, bet David, bet David is actually an overt Trump supporter. The NELC boys, all of these different podcasts and content creators that either overtly or implicitly are coded to support MAGA, maybe less well known to some people in my audience. This is a good example. Dr. Mike Israel, he's one of the top exercise scientists with, uh, mixed in to the workout content content that is imperialistic or finds capitalism to always be the solution. He really is an expert on exercise science,
Starting point is 00:47:01 but it's a great example of how the whole thing is coded in a right wing way. And the messaging works so well on young men. Young men today face a new reality to a degree. They see that the promise that if you go to high school and then he may, maybe college, maybe not even, you'll then be able to get a good job and buy a house and build a family. It's not that simple anymore. That has changed. Many of these young men kind of feel like they have no direction. And when they try to talk about the frustration, sometimes they're shut down. Sometimes they're called in cells and the right wing spaces, they don't dismiss those concerns. They often validate them and provide solutions that aren't real solutions. But the idea here is that invalidating them, it frames Trump as a champion of strength,
Starting point is 00:47:54 of toughness, of individualism. And you can see this in video gaming communities where these messages get reinforced. I'm not a gamer, but I have a lot of gamer friends who tell me I'm on the subreddit for some game I play. I'm on a discord channel for a game. I play in game content that I watch on YouTube. The coded right wing messaging is everywhere. It's in the memes. It's in the casual jokes. It's in the memes, it's in the casual jokes, it's in the conversations that touch on feminism being bad or taking a stance about pro freedom. And then we get to the problem for the left.
Starting point is 00:48:31 So the first part of it is a ton of these nominally nonpolitical spaces have become coded and shrouded in these right wing messages. And then you have what the left contributes, which is that a lot of the progressive media has mostly missed this. And instead of engaging with young men on these issues, they'll just go, Oh, toxic masculine masculinity. There's no clear positive alternative. I tried to zero in on this issue. You might remember a few weeks ago, I did a video called the MAGA manosphere and toxic masculinity. And I tried to explain exactly this and how there's actually a missing model of masculinity from the left that would be super useful to appeal to exactly these young, young men. The video didn't do super well. It didn't
Starting point is 00:49:16 seem that that many people were that interested in it. So this leaves a gap and it's a gap that these right wing influencers are thrilled to be filling. They're openly engaging on these issues. They're framing them in a way that's relatable. It's totally problematic the way they frame it, but it's relatable. And if you're a young man searching for guidance or purpose, the messaging lands and you might come across that across it, looking for business advice, how to wholesale houses or how to play a video game. So then we look at the 2024 election. We see the impact voting for Trump wasn't just about a specific policy choice.
Starting point is 00:49:54 It was a cultural statement to a degree. And for many young men, supporting Trump was a way of rejecting what they saw as the mainstream narrative that they feel ignores or dismisses them. It's that simple. And because so many of these spaces that they spend time in are coded with the right wing narratives, we shouldn't be shocked that 56% of young men ended up voting for Donald Trump. So the takeaway here is it's not that 56% of young male voters woke up as Trump supporters last Tuesday morning. It's been years of being exposed to this subtle messaging in spaces that the progressive voices
Starting point is 00:50:37 really are not reaching. And so if the left wants to win back these voters, and I think that the left probably has to win back the voters if they want to that the left probably has to win back the voters if they want to win. It is going to require some reevaluation of how we are talking to young men, how we're talking about masculinity. And there has to be a focus on understanding what are their frustrations, even if their frustrations are not based in fact, even if their frustrations are a result of lies that they have been sold by right wing influencers, it doesn't matter. It's sort of like it doesn't matter if the economy is good.
Starting point is 00:51:08 If people don't believe that it's good, as we learn, just showing them, hey, listen, inflation is down, gas prices are down. It doesn't actually matter if that's what people believe. Constructive solutions, a presentation on the issue that will relate to what their concerns actually are. So I think the young male vote, uh, going 56% to Trump is not something that should be ignored, especially as you know, roughly 50, 50 of young voters, but in particular more than 50% of the young men, these will be at least theoretically individuals with increased, uh, financial and cultural power as time goes. Hey, this is a, this is sort of interesting.
Starting point is 00:51:48 Scottish politician, Patrick Harvey sort of went after Scotland's first minister, John Swinney. Swinney just like issued a generic congratulations to Donald Trump. Oh, Trump won. Congratulations to the president elect. And, uh, Patrick Harvey was just sort of like, wait a second. Congratulations to Donald Trump. Oh, Trump won. Congratulations to the president elect. And Patrick Harvey was just sort of like, wait a second, like criminal what you're congratulating him. This was a very, very interesting clip from Scottish parliament. Yesterday, the first minister offered congratulations to the convicted felon Donald Trump on his re-election. Yes.
Starting point is 00:52:27 Writing officially on behalf of the Scottish Government, he wrote that he is sure Scotland's cultural and social ties with the US will flourish during the presidency of a misogynist, a climate denier, a fraudster, a conspiracy monger, a racist, a far-right politician who tried to overturn an election result both covertly and by inciting violence. Words fail me. What social and cultural ties does the First Minister really think will benefit from a relationship with such a man? And more importantly, what has the First Minister done so far to reach out to the marginalised and vulnerable people whose lives are most directly threatened by a second Trump term?
Starting point is 00:53:13 First Minister. Presiding Officer, I have a duty as First Minister of Scotland to engage with other governments and to represent the people. So the argument he makes is we're going to have to deal with Trump. Why wouldn't I congratulate him? In that process. And as part of that duty, I wrote the letter in question that Mr. Harvey cites. And I think there are deep cultural, social and economic ties between Scotland and the United States of America. I think they're important.
Starting point is 00:53:50 They're important for employment in our economy. They're important. All right. So he's essentially making the argument that, listen, we are connected economically. We have to, we have to sort of play nice. There is a, uh, we, we have to recall what things were like when Trump was president the first time around. And I know sometimes we just forget it And it's important not to forget it. When Trump was
Starting point is 00:54:08 president the first time around, you may have forgotten the U S was increasingly excluded from serious conversations that our global allies were participating in. When Trump said, you know, climate change, it's a scam from China or whatever. And the U S is out of the Paris climate agreement. Increasingly on questions of climate, our Western liberal allies just didn't include the United States. Now you might say, well, I'm glad screw them. I didn't like the Paris climate agreement. It's about economics. So much of what is going to be the green revolution. And you know what? If you love oil, you can stick it out for a while longer. There's no question.
Starting point is 00:54:50 But ultimately, this transition is happening to green energy. I mean, sooner or later, it's going to happen economically. If we are the one Western liberal democracy that is looked at and said that the guy in the White House doesn't even acknowledge this is happening. They don't want anything to do with this. Not only will we lose out on the climate mitigation, which maybe some of our MAGA friends don't care about, we will also look out what lose out rather on the economic benefits that this transition is going to bring. And those benefits are significant. So we I am as curious as anybody else to see, do we see more of this? Why are we even talking to this Trump administration? It's a joke on every issue. I genuinely, you know, as, as I said on Wednesday, I'm not going out and saying it was
Starting point is 00:55:41 fraud and let's do a riot because I'm not like them. That's what they did when they lost. We lost. I'm not going to do that. I'm not kidding when I say I want the country to do well. I want the country to do well so that it benefits the people. You know, we've had some some big ups in the stock market over the last few days and a lot of people are saying, oh, it's because of Trump.
Starting point is 00:56:03 I think more than likely it's because of the reduced uncertainty. And I know statistically that the stock market does better under democratic presidents than Republican presidents. But I hope the stock market does bolster the retirement accounts of people while Trump is president. I hope unemployment, I hope all those things. I hope unemployment's low and inflation remains low, et cetera. But we also have to remember that having Trump in the oval office has global consequences. And this little speech here, the, this exchange from Scottish parliament reminds us, not everybody
Starting point is 00:56:36 is necessarily going to say, we love the idea of dealing with another Trump administration. We all have seen that Donald Trump's public speeches have been full of bravado for his entire campaign, endless promises, attacks, distortions, lies, but soon it's going to be time to govern. And behind closed doors, it is a completely different story. Trump's own allies, including in red States, red state governors and others in red States are panicked about Donald Trump's coming term. Now you might be saying, why, why would they be panicked? They like Trump. Well, it turns out that running the country with total disregard for what works economically is going to cause major problems. And Trump's economic ideas might sound good. I
Starting point is 00:57:25 mean, listen, tariffs on China, I know enough about it to know it doesn't sound good, but maybe to some people they say, oh, we're going to punish China. It's good. It's going to sound good. These policies can wreak complete and total havoc. And we are already learning that many companies are already setting up to raise prices to account for Donald Trump's forthcoming tariffs. But there is this rising sense of dread within some of the Trump supporting ranks and red state governors because they are realizing, wow, Trump won. We said stuff and then we won. But now if Trump carries out many of these policy ideas, there are significant economic risks, especially for governors in
Starting point is 00:58:06 their states. We are talking about everything from economic policies that could hurt businesses like the tariffs to tax cuts for the rich that are simply not going to help the economy, but they will all blow up the deficit just like Trump did in that first term. It'll be inflationary. It will not be economically stimulative. And as I said last week, Trump's voters are going to get what they voted for. Trump's tax strategy is of course designed to benefit his base, but economists have evaluated it and they know that it will lead to budget shortfalls that even
Starting point is 00:58:43 red States aren't going to be able to ignore. And it makes sense. First, you say what you need to say to get yourself elected, but the governors are people trying to run their States and a tanking state economy is not going to be a good thing. It's sort of ironic, but now they are going to face the instability that they always said it was Democrats creating, but they're going to face it as a result of Donald Trump winning and getting to do what he wants to do. Now there's also the legal side because Trump's approach to law enforcement is going to make these tough on crime law and order magas a little bit nervous. And I'm of course talking about Donald Trump's promises to use loyalist figures to reshape the department of justice, which is a move that according to a lot of insiders, it sounds good for campaigning, but it's making
Starting point is 00:59:31 them a little bit scared in terms of the accountability implications. Once you set the precedent of a, I might go after this, that, or the other person, it can be turned on anybody. And at the state level, a lot of these Republicans are saying, do we really want that politics of revenge and vengeance that Trump is talking about with law and order? Because when the political winds change, then it could come back on us. Now, I know there are people who are hearing this and they're saying, well, they asked for it. Who cares? Right. They wanted Trump in office. They wanted this aggressive authoritarian style. Trump won. Now they're going to get it that
Starting point is 01:00:05 they suffer. Okay. Who cares? Fine. I I'm with you on the political, uh, consequences, but there's going to be massive collateral damage here as well. And there are going to be a lot of people at the state level that suffer. And I know it's almost cliche to say, as I said before, I, I want, I would prefer the country do well. I think it would be a better thing. And when Trump's economic policies, if they become a reality, which with Trump, it's always, here's what I promised, but what am I really going to do? We won't know until he's, he's actually in a position of power. If Trump puts in place these policies and it starts hurting red States, okay, great.
Starting point is 01:00:41 If it hurts the Republican governor who supported Trump that I welcome, but the destruction that it will wreak on people who did and didn't vote for Trump in those States, that's not the type of thing that I can get super excited about. So the question is now, where does it leave us here? Who did not vote for Trump? If even Trump's most dedicated allies are expressing doubts, there might be more fractures in Trump's administration than it seems like on the surface. And if the allies start to step back or if they say, I'm not propping up this particular policy, I voted Trump, I support Trump, but the tariff
Starting point is 01:01:18 policy, it's going to affect my state in this way. I don't like it. You could end up with a second Trump term that could be even more disastrous when it comes to the people that work for Trump, abandoning Trump. Then that first term, you might recall that during Trump's first term, there were, there was significant attrition. And during that time, the people who stayed with Trump would always say, there's always turnover. We're gearing up for a second term, which they never got because Biden won. So we're going to start having some turnover and changing people. The reality is that there was massive abandonment of Trump from within his ranks due to incompetence that especially
Starting point is 01:01:58 without another Trump term to maybe stay buddy buddy with him for this time around could wreak complete and total havoc. And we will be watching it very, very closely. We've got a great bonus show for you today. Democrats, many did better down ballot than Harris, meaning there were people who went to vote, did not vote. Harris did vote for down ballot. Democrats.
Starting point is 01:02:23 We're going to talk about what that means. We will talk about split ticket voters who voted for defending abortion rights on a ballot referendum and voted Trump. How did that happen? What did they do? And finally, will Trump's hush money conviction stand the 34 felony counts? A judge will decide. We know he's getting out of the federal cases. Thanks for having me.
