Donald Trump has cut food assistance for 42 million Americans. A federal judge says it's illegal and the payments must go out. But does the White House even care? Barack Obama's out there hammering MAGA and Donald Trump is melting down about it. And I will be joined today by New York City mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani. We will also check out 60 minutes doing with a new Trump interview exactly what Trump Trump sued them for doing with a Kamala Harris interview. And is J.D. Vance's Hindu Indian wife becoming a liability for him with the turning point

MAGA crowd. I think the answer is clearly yes. Let's get into today's show. 42 million Americans woke up on November 1st with food assistance gone. There are 16 million kids in that 42 million. There are 8 million senior citizens.

There are 4 million people with disabilities. Trump had the money to feed them 6 billion sitting there approved by Congress specifically for emergencies like this. And Trump is saying he doesn't want to use it. Food stamps is the program that helps low income families buy groceries. The average benefit is about $6 per person per day. That's $2 per meal. These are not lavish government handouts.

This is a parent being able to buy milk and bread for their kids. It's one of the most economically stimulative forms of government spending there is. It wouldn't even be necessary if a lot of companies actually paid a living wage. Remember, most people on food stamps work. And on November 1st, Trump's administration turned it off. Now, you might be asking, can he even do that? And the answer is, according to two federal judges, no, he can't. Judge John J. McConnell Jr. in Rhode Island said the Trump administration has to use that

emergency funding. They've got to send the benefits out. He says, if you don't, it's irreparable harm. But what is wild is that the Justice Department lawyer argued in court, SNAP did not exist anymore. because there were no congressionally appropriated funds, except there are funds. They're $6 billion. It's been set aside for Congress. It's legally required to be used in exactly these situations.

And Trump just doesn't want to use it. Now, Judge McConnell says these families are experiencing terror. They don't know if they'll be able to feed their children. And we have the United States of America in 2025 with people afraid I might not have money to feed my kids. This is not the first time. Trump has gone after food assistance. You might remember $187 billion were cut from SNAP in his big beautiful bill. That's the largest cut in the program's history. We heard from Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rawlins. She says the snap freeze is really a silver lining because it shows how bloated the program is. 16 million kids who depend on food stamps so they can

eat breakfast before school or have a sandwich for lunch or don't go to bed hungry. Eight million senior citizens, four million with disabilities. And she says this, there's a silver lining here. The program is bloated. Now, Trump is being directed to disperse the payments. As of this moment, it hasn't happened. But this is the theme. Trump shuts down the government.

Congress can't function. Trump uses the chaos to do whatever he wants. Can't get Congress to cut snap. Shut down the government and cut it anyway. Can't get Congress to approve military action. Shut down the government. Tell the Pentagon, it's time to prepare for war, maybe with Nigeria. So the shutdown is really a feature, not a bug. Now, while all of this is happening, Trump's spending crazy money on things that he wants. Christy Noam's getting private jets for her department. The White House is getting demolished, but feeding hungry children can't find the money for it.

Now, we can sit here and talk about how outrageous this is and we can share this video and we can be angry about it and we should. But people are hungry right now. So I am going to try to do something about it. We've never done anything like this before. I was thinking about when my family moved to the United States when I was five because of the disastrous economic situation in Argentina. And I think now as a parent, what it would be like to have to move today.

if I found myself in such a situation, I want to try to do something about it and about what's going on and people who are now experiencing food insecurity. I know many of you also want to help because you've emailed me about it. Maybe the most powerful thing about the show is the community, the people in the audience and what we can do together. Now obviously, I can go and get cans for my local food pantry. And in fact, I'm part of a men's group. And we are doing that at the local level.

But thinking that we have this audience, and I know many of you either might want to do something for those struggling with food insecurity, or you might be struggling with food insecurity yourself. Donald Trump is partying with billionaires again in a gaudy, gilded age style Halloween party while we look around and 42 million people's snap benefits are in question and people are being snatched off the streets. And you look at the scene at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago on Halloween and you see gold everywhere, Moke machines, bottle girls. It looks like the Hunger Games capital threw up on itself at Donald Trump's Halloween party.

And the immigration raids are continuing and people are getting ripped off the streets and food stamps are in question and families are getting crushed. And we're seeing job losses regularly. Farmers are in crisis. Remember how I told you that money can't buy class and Donald Trump really is the embodiment of that? Well, here is a woman in a massive martini glass or I guess it's not, I guess it's not a martini glass. I'm not exactly up on my stemware at this point in time at this party. Here is a video at the party of, again, it's like a woman dancing in a drink glass.

Yeah. We've got a sort of gilded age recreation happening at Mar-a-Lago at Mar-Lago at the food stamps are getting cut. Look at this. Yeah. And then here are more dancers at Trump's party. All right. Now listen. I'm not naive. Okay. I know that there are always people struggling and there are always people doing well. It's sort of like, you know, did you just throw out your your leftover, uh, caesidea because there are people starving in Africa.

Right. But that's not what this is. I know there are people struggling and rich people doing well and flying around on private jets and yachts and having huge parties. Oh, the gas for your private jet could have ended, uh, uh, hunger for 100,000 people. This is not a random rich guy. Okay. This is the president of the United States who ran on fixing things for the average person claiming

that he understands what the average person is suffering through better than anybody else. And yet, this is where we are. So this is why, as I said earlier, we're going to try to make the biggest possible donation to the charity Feeding America where first payments for all website and substack memberships this month will go to Feeding America. But we can't do nearly enough as what the federal government is now hindering. and the imagery of the centimillionaire and billionaire class partying in this way at the president's

house. And this is I know that I could show you video from Monaco and from Nice and from St. Barth's. Okay. And it would be opulence beyond belief. But at the same time, this is the United States. And it is not even a random billionaire. It's the billionaire who is saying we're going to cut food stamp benefits. We're going to tariff everything and crush farmers and manufacturers and so on. This is not a random guy and it is disgusting. J.D. Vance has a problem.

And that problem is that his wife is Hindu and his wife is Indian. Now, I want to be clear. That is not a problem for me. This is a problem for J.D. Vance and increasingly for his 2028 chances because of the monster that MAGA has created. Let me explain. I don't want this to be a J.D. Vance, Erica Kirk gossip story. If you haven't heard about this over the last few days, there's been growing kind of gossip

that maybe J.D. Vance and Charlie Kirk's widow, Erica Kirk, are involved in an affair. A lot of this has been inspired by when Erica Kirk recently introduced J.D. Vance at a turning point event, they sort of seemed handsy. She ran her hands through his hair. He embraced her in what some said, this is more than just a platonic way. She's wearing leather pants. You know, every detail is being analyzed. And on top of this, J.D. Vance has recently been talking about he would love it if his Indian Hindu wife, Usha Vance, embraced Christianity more. Maybe she would even consider converting to Christianity. So there is a real story here.

But it's about whether J.D. Vance could win in 2028 with a wife that is Indian and Hindu. We could spend time talking about how Erica Kirk did seem handsy with J.D. But that's not the point of the story. And we could talk about how Erica Kirk certainly hasn't seemed like the heartbroken grieving widow, But everybody experiences grief differently and I'm not really interested in that. We could speculate about whether Erica Kirk and J.D. Vance are already having an affair or whether an affair is imminent. But that's not really a political story for me. The story has to start with what we know.

And what we know is that the turning point Maga base already confronted Vivek Ramoswamy, now running for Governor Ohio, because he's Hindu and not Christian. Remember this, just a great example of the monster you helped build turning against you. Here are like Charlie Kirk disciples saying, wait a second, you're not Christian. That's a problem. Jesus Christ is God and there is no other God. He's part of the Holy Trinity and any other God is a demon and it's false. How can you represent the constituents of Ohio? We're 64% Christian if you are not a part of that faith.

If you are an Indian, a Hindu coming from a different culture, different religion, then those who founded this country, those who grew this country, built this country, made this country the beautiful thing that it is today, what are you conserving? You are bringing change. I'll be 100% honest with you. Christianity is the one truth. Christian voices should be the main voice of America. And I want to know basically why you seem to be, and I don't need to be horribly offensive,

but why you seem to be masquerading as a Christian. All right. So you get the point, right? Being Hindu is becoming a problem with the future Republican voting base for Vivek Ramoswamy. So we know that for J.D. Vance's 2028 aspirations, if he has them and reports are that he does, that he is going to need to explain his Hindu wife to Maga. And that could be a real problem for him. It even sort of seems like J.D. Vance realizes it because he's talking more than ever about,

I would love my wife to embrace Christianity. Maybe she should even convert. Now, you might say, wait a second, David, Malania Trump is from another country and the United States still voted for Trump. They didn't care that Melania is from another country. And I would say to you, hold on a second. Ushah Vance isn't from another country. That's not the issue. She was born in California. Melania is white. Ushavance is not.

Melania is at least nominally Christian. Ushavance is not. In fact, the Melania story is funny for a different reason. Melania came to the United States and worked in the U.S. before having a work visa. She was here working without permission. That's an immigration violation. But MAGA voters don't care about that. Those rules are, you know, they're not for people.

Like Melania, they're for other people. Melania Trump received a visa for something called extraordinary ability. Some people call it the Einstein visa. That doesn't sound appropriate, but Maga looks away anyway. Melania's parents got citizenship through the same so-called chain migration that Donald Trump has attacked. But come on, it's Melania. Maga looks away.

They forgive. But Usha Vance has brown skin and she's Hindu. not Christian. And so even though Usha Vance is a native born American, MAGA is going to have a problem with her that I don't think they're going to ignore because they're not ignoring it with the Vake Ramoswami. Donald Trump's Treasury secretary, Scott Bessent, admitted on live TV that there are sectors of the American economy already in a recession.

This is the guy who is supposed to always say, if you're Trump, everything's good, strongest economy ever, it's awesome. But that is not what Scott Besson said. He says we are in a transition period in good shape, but there is a recession happening right now in sectors of the economy. Take a listen to this. This week, the Fed voted to lower interest rates another quarter of a point to its lowest level in three years. However, the central bank's newest official, Stephen Myron is warning that the Fed doesn't continue to lower interest rates rapidly. The U.S. could face a recession. Do you agree that the U.S. is at risk of facing a recession? I believe that we are in a transition period here. As we are seeing, the Trump administration has cut back on government

spending, Jake. What has gone unnoticed during the shutdown is for the fiscal year that in September 30th, the government spent less than it did the year before, and because the GDP grew, the GDP, which had been 6.4, the deficit to GDP, which had been 6.4, 6.5% deficit, the highest when we weren't at war, weren't in a recession ever, we were able to bring it down to 5.9%. So we are bringing down government spending. And I would think that the Fed would want to assist with that, because if we go back and look, MIT just published a study that said 42% of the great inflation of 2022 came from government spending. So if we are contracting spending, then I would think inflation will be dropping. If inflation is dropping, then the Fed should be cutting rates.

But do you think that the U.S. is at risk of a recession if the Fed does not continue to drop rates? I think that we are in good shape, but I think that there are sectors of the economy that are in recession. And the Fed has caused a lot of distributional problems with their policies. So Bessent is saying it's definitely not Trump's fault. It's the Fed. It's other people. But there are sectors of the economy right now that are in a recession. Now, if it's not obvious why it's huge for the guy who's supposed to be saying everything's

perfect to acknowledge that there's a partial recession right now, this is the first time to my knowledge that anyone in Trump's administration has admitted there's any part of the economy currently in a recession. They've been saying everything's great, best economy ever. And now their own guy is saying. Well, part of the economy is in a recession right now. Secondly, what the hell does that even mean? Part sectors of the economy are in a recession.

It's kind of a fancy way of saying, I am not going to call it a full recession, but in a lot of various things are bad. It's like saying, listen, the ship isn't sinking. There are parts of it that are flooded and are lowering into the ocean. But to say the sip is shinks. the ship is sinking is not something we can say right now. Third, and this should really worry everybody. When parts of the economy are in a recession, it usually spreads.

Things are connected. Manufacturing connects to retail. Retail hits services. I mean, this is how you get to a full recession. And if I'm honest, even though Besson is never full, you know, the tell the truth, the whole truth. We never get the whole truth from Besson. But at least he's acknowledging that people are feeling this.

Americans know things are tight. They see the grocery bills, which were supposed to come down, but they haven't. They see their rent. They see what's going on with jobs. So when an official finally admits parts of the economy are in a recession, at least it's a little bit more honest than they usually are. The problem is it contradicts every damn thing that Donald Trump has been saying. Trump has been saying greatest economy in American history.

He just said we've turned things around completely. Jobs are booming like never before. Treasury Secretary goes, we're in a partial recession right now. So is the economy the best ever or are parts of it in a recession? It can't both can't be true. And of course, if what people said mattered to voters, this would be a huge credibility problem. When Trump now says everything's great, his own Treasury guy said there's a partial recession right now. Now, what does it mean for you? I would be prepared, you know, when the Treasury Secretary is willing to admit some sectors are in a recession on live TV. The real picture is probably worse. You know, these are people who downplay

bad news when it's their guy in charge. If you've been thinking about a big purchase or changing jobs, do you wait? Again, when parts of the economy struggle, it can spread pretty quickly. And do not trust the White House spin. Normally, I would say trust the agencies, but Trump has gotten rid of some of them too. We're not getting jobs reports now because Trump didn't like the last official jobs report, he fired the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. But the point here is that this admission alone changes a lot. We've been debating, could there be a recession someday in the future? We are now in a partial recession, according to Trump's own Treasury Secretary. So we'll be watching all of the indicators closely. This feels like it's only the beginning

of whatever this is. Donald Trump was interviewed on 60 minutes. And it was an absolute disaster. This is why interviews for Trump in this format are a really bad idea. Trump brought printouts to his 60 minutes interview with a list of wars that he ended. You've got to see this. So why won't Putin end this war? But Nora, that was Joe Biden's war, not my war. I inherited that stupid war.

As the bloodiest land war in Europe since World War II continues, but I brought, I mean, just a little list of wars. President Trump wanted to make sure we saw the list of eight international conflicts. He says he's been able to end. Now, if you look at this list, there are some real questions about this entire thing. You know, Trump includes Kosovo and Serbia. Who was president when Serb forces left? Kosovo in 1999. Trump lists Egypt and Ethiopia.

When was the last shot fired there? What about, you know, he lists the, uh, it's just a, I'm like Pakistan and India. Why does India say there was no American involvement whatsoever there? This is a ridiculous list. Since returning to office and you have branded yourself the peace president. Well, I think I did pretty good. I solved. Those are eight of the nine wars I solved. I went. You know how I solved them? I said, in many cases, in 60 percent, I said, if you don't stop fighting, I'm putting tariffs on both

of your countries and you're not going to be able to do business. Why isn't that? Why isn't that working with Putin? It is not lost on me that Trump's eyes are almost completely swollen shut again. It's just not part of this interview. Trump pulling papers out. That's how you know it's not going well. This was an incredible moment. Nora O'Donnell asks Trump, why'd you pardon Chang Peng Zhao? Trump goes, I have no idea who you're talking about. She fills in some details. Trump goes, I don't know a thing about what you're talking about. This is what Trump said Biden was doing. Trump said Biden was issuing pardons without knowing what was going on because someone stuck a paper in front of them. Trump is admitting that's what he is doing.

This year, the president has pardoned or shortened the sentences of more than 1,600 people. The latest pardon was for a cryptocurrency tycoon who is known as CZ. The company CZ founded, Binance, helped boost the profile of the Trump family's crypto firm, World Liberty Financial. He pled guilty in 2023 to violating anti-money laundering laws. The government at the time said that CZ had caused significant harm to U.S. national security, essentially by allowing terrorist groups like Hamas to move millions of dollars around. Why did you pardon him?

Okay, are you ready? I don't know who he is. I know he got a four-month sentence or something like that, and I heard it was a Biden witch hunt. In 2025, his crypto exchange Binance helped facilitate a $2 billion purchase of World Liberty Financial's staple coin. And then you pardoned CZ. How do you address the appearance of pay for play? Well, here's the thing. I know nothing about it because I'm too busy doing the other. But you know.

Oh, my God. We were told that Biden's pardons must be reversed either because of the auto pen or because Biden didn't really know what he was doing. Someone just told them to do it. And Trump is going, don't know who he is. don't know a thing about it. Someone told me it was a Biden thing. And so I signed the pardon. Trump is admitting he's signing pardons for situations he doesn't know anything about for people he has never heard of. Shouldn't they all be invalid by Trump's own logic about Biden? This is a

disastrous interview. Trump was asked about the whole third term thing. Now, he's. he's already said, it's clear I can't do it. Here is how Donald Trump answered the question this time. There's been a lot of talk about 2028 and who will be at the top of the Republican ticket. Can you set the record straight? You're not going to try and run for a third term? Well, I don't even think about it. I will tell you, a lot of people want me to run. But the difference between us and the Democrats is we really do have a strong bench. I don't want to use names because it's inappropriate, but it's too early. But people do like when you start talking about,

whether you like J.D. Vance or Secretary Rubio. I do like J.D. Vance. I like Marco Rubio. I like so many. We have an unbelievable bench. Mr. President, can I also ask you, we're now at the end of your first year of this second term. What do you hope to accomplish in the next three years? Well, I hope I can have the same year that we had. Look, we have been acknowledged to have the greatest nine months. You know, it's nine months. Yeah. Nobody is acknowledging that. So listen, I still, I don't think he's going to try to run. He already said the other day, it's pretty pretty clear I can't do it. I will also acknowledge a lot of dictators started with everybody wants me to stay in power,

therefore, but I don't think Trump is actually going to try to run. Trump was asked about Zoran Mamdani, who by the way, will join us in a moment. And he said, I'm better looking than Zoran. Okay. With state and local elections coming up Tuesday, we asked the president about the highly anticipated mayoral race that includes former. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Zoran Mondani. Zorhan Mondami, 34-year-old Democratic Socialist.

He's the front of him. Communist, not socialist, communist. He's far worse than a social. Some people have compared him to a left-wing version of you, charismatic, breaking the old rules. What do you think about that? Well, I think I'm a much better looking person than him, right? With state and local elections coming up.

Oh, boy. This is, you know, we're going to talk. to Zoron about Trump sending federal troops to New York if, uh, if, if Zoran ends up winning. But much like with Obama, I think part of the problem Trump has with Zoran is he recognizes that Zoran is more articulate and better looking. I mean, it's a crazy thing, but I think that that's it. Trump is always talking about his greatest insecurities. Trump was asked about the deportation, not of violent criminals, but of landscapers and nannies.

And here is how he answered that question. More recently, Americans have been watching videos of ICE, tackling a young mother, tear gas being used in a Chicago residential neighborhood, and the smashing of car windows. Have some of these raids gone too far? No, I think they haven't gone far enough because we've been held back by the judges, by the liberal judges that were put in by Biden and by Obama. We haven't gone far enough. Okay with those tactics.

Yeah, because you have to get the people out. You know, you have to look at the people. Many of them are murderers. Many of them are people that were thrown out of their countries because they were, you know, criminals. Well, you promised in your campaign that you were going to deport the worst of the worst. Violent criminals, rapists. But a lot of the people that your administration has arrested and deported aren't violent criminals. Landscapers, nannies, construction workers, farm workers.

Now, look, look. The family of you serve. Landscapers who are criminals, Trump says. Except that's not true in a lot of cases. It turns out the number of criminal illegals to use Trump's term. It's a lot smaller than we were led to believe. And it's important this is not a matter of opinion. This is a matter of the law.

Immigration infractions are civil infractions. Obviously, if you're here undocumented and you commit a violent crime, that's a new crime and it's against the law no matter your legal status. But just being here undocumented, it's not allowed. I'm not denying that. But it is a civil infraction at the end of the day. Is Trump planning some kind of regime change in Venezuela? I don't know, but he does say that Maduro's days are numbered.

Are Maduro's days as president numbered? I would say, yeah, I think so, yeah. And this issue of potential land strikes in Venezuela, is that true? I don't tell you that. I mean, I'm not saying it's true or untrue, but I, you know, I wouldn't. I wouldn't be inclined to say that I would do that. But because I don't talk to a reporter about whether or not I'm going to strike. Right. But certainly he would be willing to do it. Now, one of the things that is maybe the biggest

piece of news from this interview is that I've only been able to show you clips from what aired. But there was much more to this interview that was cut. And we have to talk about that. This is really awkward for Trump. Uh, Trump once sued CBS. for editing a 60 minutes interview. You might remember this routine, okay? They edited Kamala's interview to make her look better. Well, it turns out that CBS just did it again, except this time they did it for Donald Trump. Now, I'm being sort of tongue in cheek here because 60 minutes edits interviews.

That's the show. They don't run. They interviewed Trump for 90 minutes. Nora O'Donnell did. We looked at clips. They don't run the 90. minute interview. They take a long conversation. They cut it. They had a version for TV. They had a version for online. 60 minutes edits interviews. And that's how it works. However, the stuff that was cut,

some of it cut from the TV version and left only in the online one. Some of it just cut all together is stuff that makes Trump look really bad. I'll give you an example. There was a moment where the topic of Putin and Ukraine came up. And in answering that, Trump said about the 2020 election, then the election was rigged and stolen. This is just one example, but we have to show it through examples. If we are saying, does this make Trump look crazier or less crazy? Well, continuing to insist that he won in 2020 makes him look crazier. CBS, by. By Removing that is laundering Trump's image. He seems less nuts.

Now, if we're using Trump's own legal standard for what counts as fraud by a news outlet, CBS just committed a major act of fraud by hiding Trump's answers. So is Trump going to sue CBS again this time for censoring him? No, of course not, because Trump only cares when the edits make him look bad or make his opponents look better. These are edits that saved Trump from making him look worse. Now, I want to be clear, this isn't really a scandal. This is me pointing out the irony.

The guy who screams about 60 minutes editing things to change the perception of the interviewee is now the beneficiary of the type of editing he said is an attack on democracy, election interference, and worthy of a lawsuit. Now, there's another layer here. Trump actually loves edited interviews when they help him. He has spent years giving friendly sit downs to Newsmax OAN, Tucker Hannity. And many of these different shows trim and cut. In fact, my mind goes to this interview that Trump did with Fox News.

It's the same interview, Fox and Friends, I think it was. It's the same infamous interview where they go, you're going to release the JFK files? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. You're going to release the MLK files? Absolutely. You're going to release the Epstein files. He goes, yeah, well, that one's a little bit different. We did an analysis of that interview at the time.

And you can tell from how it's cut that a bunch of stuff of Trump speaking has been removed, presumably things that would have made him look more unhinged. From the standpoint of 60 minutes, I would argue it's also not great journalism because cutting the deranged the election was rigged and stolen statement means that there are some casual viewers who will think based on what was aired Trump is more coherent than he actually is. The reality is Trump is still ranting about the election being rigged and stolen. was removed. If you just kind of scroll on by, watch the interview and move on, it's missing key context that reminds us Trump is out of his mind. You would think that during, you know,

an election year, there's some elections this year were, we're now a year from the midterms. You would think major networks would want to show what Trump actually says instead of cleaning it up for him, but this is where we are. And legacy and corporate media outlets do fall into this. They are terrified of being accused of bias. They overcorrect. They end up. protecting people who really don't deserve to be protected. You don't show the crazy stuff because somebody might get mad. And the result is that Trump benefits from the same institutions that he claims are out to get him. 60 minutes helped Trump. Yet Trump says that they and just about every other media outlet are out to get them. If Americans understood how TV news works and editing

works, we wouldn't even have the conspiracy culture that we have. But Trump has spent a decade convincing his base that every cut is a cover-up, even when the cuts help him, but then he doesn't want to talk about it when it launders his image. So listen, to first tell my audience who has been saying, David, are you not having him on because he's a socialist and you're not and we just haven't been able to make it work until today. It's true. I am not a socialist. People are allowed to have different political views. I want to learn. And that's what we're here to do. So I want to talk about a couple of things in the limited time that we have. One of significant concern is it seems as though there is an appetite, especially if you win, to make New York a target of the militarization, federalization, etc., of law enforcement by Donald Trump. Lawsuits sometimes work, sometimes they're slow after the fact they can work. What is the plan if you win? And the Trump administration says,

We are going to show them what we can do. And they try to do in New York City what they have done in other places around the country. You know, first, I really want to acknowledge and appreciate having the chance to be on, David. And for whatever the questions might be, there's actually a far less interesting nemesis. And their name is Google Calendar. And we overcame it to be here. We did. We did.

You know, look, almost every morning Donald Trump wakes up and makes threats to cities across this country. they are threats that use the language of safety, and yet we know they have nothing to do with that, because if they did, then it would mean deploying the National Guard to the eight out of 10 states with the highest crime rates, but they're all run right Republicans, so that would never even be considered. In fact, it's about intimidation. It's about trying to create a sense of fear. And I agree with the police commissioner Jessica Tisch here in New York City that we do not need the National Guard. We have the NYPD to create that public safety, and that's what I'm looking forward to working with. And I think, as you said, there's the utility of the courts, which must be used and also sometimes takes its time.

I think there is also the importance of building a political coalition such that everyone understands that it's not Donald Trump versus Zora Mamdani. It's Donald Trump versus New York City. And the way that you do that is by ensuring that you are reflecting the true breadth of who this would affect in New York City. We're talking about the governor, the attorney general, myself as the mayor, we're talking about small businesses. We're talking about faith leaders. we're talking about immigrant advocates. This is an attack on the very fabric of the city because I think too often Republicans set the narrative and then Democrats allow it to fester. We don't even combat it. We don't offer our own affirmative vision. We don't actually put forward why it is that we are in politics.

And that's what I would be doing as the next mayor of the city. Now, in nuts and bolts terms, what does it mean if they physically show up? Because again, the lawsuits have, we've seen them work, but after the fact, is it deputizing? And we're YPD to resist the federalization? I mean, what are we doing nuts and bolts? I think one of the first things is that you are prepared for the use of the courts in advance of that decision. This is not something where you are then starting to put together your brief. And that's for me, what the 57 days between election day and January 1st have to look like. It has to look like that work of preparation such that January 1st, you hit the ground running. The second part of this is I've made

very clear that I believe that everyone should be held to the same standard of the law. And if ICE agents are breaking the law here in New York City, they should be held to account for it. And this is something that sadly is missing in so much of our politics today where we try to create a different set of rules on the basis of who we would apply them to. And part of the reason that Donald Trump is currently prosecuting Attorney General Tish James is because she had the gall to hold him to account to that same set of laws. So the nuts and bolts will look like that clear directive in this city that everyone will be held to account to the same law. It'll mean having the lawsuits prepared in advance if in case this is something that is pursued by the federal government and ensuring

that the coalition of the Attorney General, the governor and myself is one that is ready to go because one of the more successful examples of taking on the federal administration was in California where you had the Mayor of L.A., the Governor of California, the Attorney General of California, all working together. And the Attorney General there said that for every dollar they spent on legal fees, they recovered more than 30,000 in federal funds that would have otherwise been stripped from them. Before I move on, you, you're saying ICE agents could be prosecuted as individuals, depending on their actions in New York City. If they break the law.

Yes. Got it. Okay. I'm very interested in free buses because I'm from Argentina. And we have a whole background with regard to the way that buses have been used politically and also from a sort of logistical standpoint. Now, I really want to focus in on the funding piece. There are critics who say the state controls the MTA and doing what you want to do would require a statewide tax increase unlikely that a governor nor the state's population would go for it.

Is that a fair criticism or is that an incorrect criticism? The fair aspect of it is that the state does control the MTA. The unfair aspect of it is that it misses the fact of when a city has a mayor that has an ambition that matches the scale of an issue, that you can actually change the political realities around how you win that funding. I'll give you an example. Mayor Bloomberg was so passionate about the extension of the seven train to Hudson Yards that he took on what is typically a state responsibility of the fiscal cost of building a new subway station. and paid for it using city funds. That was more than a billion dollars. I give that to you as an example of the way in which this position can be used to start to actually advocate and then implement a vision of mass transit that goes beyond what we have today. The cost for free buses is about $700 million. I've said that we would partner with the state in funding that. And part of this is out of my experience of being in the state legislature where we won the first fair free bus pilot. we made five bus routes free in New York City. And we often talk about this in the question of cost,

but there's also the question of benefit. There is a study that has come out from a transit expert that puts forward an analysis that for the 700 million or so that we would spend, we would generate about $1.5 billion in economic benefits across New York City. And I've said that I believe the most important and clear and direct ways of raising this funds is by increasing personal income taxes on New Yorkers making a million dollars or more by 2 percent and by increasing the corporate tax rate, to match that of New Jersey at its top tier. I've also said that if there are other proposals of ways in which we can find the funding, the most important thing is the funding itself, not the manner in which we find it. One of the things that I don't, and you can, we'll find out

because I have you here to ask, I don't believe that those estimates are dynamically adjusted for what is expected to be a change in ridership, maintenance on the buses, et cetera. Is it true or is that incorrect? Is that priced into your estimates? The 700 million is a current estimate. Got it. We'll put a number of different predictions forward. What I've often found is even the MTA's reliance on McKinsey for where their ridership

numbers would be. We saw time and time again that the predictions were outstripping the realities. And that continues to be an issue for many New Yorkers. So I guess the one piece would be depending on the actual uptake, then there's, would have to be an accounting for, okay, number one, do we need more buses? Do the buses need more frequent maintenance? Do we need more staff? That is not currently in the 700, right? The 700 is the replacement of the fair revenue. That's what the 70 is. And I think that, you know, if our platform is about making buses fast and free and these two things together will also

require having a true, a reimagination of the way in which we engage. with bus transit across the city because, you know, the city controls the streets across the five boroughs, while the MTA is controlled by the state. And the streets determine how fast those buses move. And that's a question of busways, bus lanes, bus prioritization signals. That is critically important. And I'm very excited to be building a coalition that finally looks at that as it should be, which is political decisions. You know, one of the things I find myself wanting to tell my audience as we talk is, even if you and I have differences in terms of political and economic philosophies, which we do, one of the things that I think we have to do in this country is if voters have decided they want

to try something, we get to try it and then we measure and we evaluate. And so for all of this stuff about, I mean, listen, I think there are some divisions on the left right now. And what I think is interesting about what's happening in New York. And of course, the results are going to tell us what sort of a test we get is we've tried a number of different things in different parts of this country. And we've also tried different things in New York. Even though I would not run on your campaign, we get to now see if you win, what are the effects? And then voters get to vote again.

And so while I recognize the differences within the left and you and I are in different parts of the left, if voters have decided and if they do decide that they want to try. your approach, we get to try it. And anybody who is on any part of the left, I believe, has to be in favor of that. Well, I really appreciate that. And I think that's what's so exciting about what comes after this election is the opportunity to take an idea and implement it. Because the worth of an idea comes from the implementation of that idea. We cannot believe in things purely in theory. We have to believe in them also in practice. And this now gives us that opportunity to deliver on that. And I really appreciate your your analysis of the fact that this is now going to be a

collective effort to live up to the will of voters here in New York City. And I'm very excited to be a part of it. We didn't have time for what you will do about the scourge of tourists walking slowly. But I think that that maybe we have to leave for a, that's a big, that's a much bigger issue than the free buses, quite frankly. Yeah, well, look, I, I love to walk fast. And I love to also tell tourists that they're welcome in this city and we have to be able to hold both of these things at the same time. But David, it's been a real pleasure to be on. And, you know, especially with just very little time until Election Day to have this opportunity to share our message of making the most expensive city in the United States of America, one that's affordable for every New Yorker.

And you can only do so by actually changing the politics at hand. And that's what our campaign presents an opportunity to do. And it's been such an exhilarated. experience to build this movement alongside so many other New Yorkers and out across the finish line tomorrow night at 9 p.m. All right. Well, listen, thank you so much for your time. As I said, when Donald Trump won, I want whoever is president to succeed by making things better for people, no matter their politics. Former president Barack Obama spent some time this weekend campaigning in some of these key off year races. He was in support of Abigail Spanberger as well as Mikey Cheryl. And one of the interesting things that happened is that he wildly, wildly triggered Donald Trump, which Barack Obama seems to do, as I've said before, Donald Trump is extremely insecure about some of the areas in which he knows that Obama is better than him. Obama's better at public speaking. Obama's better at getting a crowd sort of on his side.

Obama is more articulate and better looking than Donald Trump. Okay. And he's in better shape. So Trump doesn't really like a lot of those aspects of Obama because they are. areas of sensitivity for Trump and lack of confidence. So Donald Trump lost it on truth social. After Barack Obama showed up, this clip is in Newark, New Jersey. There were a lot of clips like it.

But this is one of them of Obama saying for these magas, everything is DEI. Anything went wrong. It must be DEI that we can blame. Enriching their friends, silencing their critics, they put on a big show. of deporting people and and targeting transgender folks. They never miss a chance to scapegoat minorities and blame DEI for every problem under the sun. You got a flat tire?

Must be DEI. Your wife kicked you out? DEI. Who knew? But what they haven't done is help you. So, So this combined with everything else that former President Obama did and said over the weekend really sent Trump for a loop and Trump took to truth social and put out the following

screens. Quote, why would anyone vote for New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial candidate's Mikey Cheryl and Abigail Spanberger when they want transgender for everybody, men playing in women's sports, high crime, and the most expensive energy prices almost anywhere in the world. Vote Republican for massive energy cost reductions, large scale tax cuts and basic common sense. Under President Trump, me, gasoline will come down to $2 a gallon very soon. No movement yet nine months in, but very, very soon. With the Democrats, you'll be paying $4, 5, and 6 dollars a gallon.

and your electric and other energy costs will likewise soar. Vote Republican for a great and very affordable life. All you'll get from voting Democrat is unrelentingly high crime, energy prices through the roof, men playing in women's sports and heartache. Now, as all of you, I'm sure know, these are all lies. But it's funny that Trump says Democrats want high crime. crime like what it forget about the trans stuff men and women sports energy why would democrats want high crime and i think they have some completely convoluted way of explaining it by by

with high crime you make victims out of people victims want the government is it's completely incoherent as opposed to like the obvious thing of obviously nobody wants high crime trump then continuing on truth social saying quote for all of those people voting in new jersey and virginia for governor, attorney general, or any other position. Please remember this. A Republican vote means a drastic drop in energy prices and energy costs, a drop like you've never seen before. Well, why is electricity up more than 10% under Trump then? Don't ask that question. Trump continues. A Democrat vote means a doubling and even tripling of your energy bills and prices. Traditionally, the highest cost of an American citizen. So if you vote Republican, your energy costs are going to go down tremendously.

If you vote Democrat, your energy costs are going to go through the roof, making energy virtually unaffordable for you and your family to pay. Also remember that if you don't go to the polls and vote, it's the same thing as voting for a Democrat. So go to the polls and cut your energy costs in half. Why would it take voting for Republican gubernatorial candidates to cut your energy costs in half given that Trump promised that as president, he would cut your energy costs in half. Or is that an inappropriate question to be asking? And the other aspect of this that I think is sort of weird, I guess I would say, is that he, you know how they would say under, under Biden, all of these things are going to happen that

are terrible. And one of the things that Trump said in 2020 would happen if Biden was president was that energy prices would go up so much that people would no longer have indoor heating and indoor cooling and even windows would no longer be allowed in new construction. None of that stuff happened. Now Trump is in power. Energy prices are going up and he is again saying you vote for Democrats, you're going to have a problem. This is going to happen. That is going to happen. How many times can the boy cry wolf before his own followers don't believe him? Apparently 10 years is still not enough.

Caroline Leavitt has reappeared and instantly collapsed during a pathetic interview on Fox News with Maria Bardo. Maybe this is why they've been keeping Caroline Leavitt hidden. Caroline Leavitt has the, I don't know if I would call it the skill or the ability to, no matter what she's talking about, sound righteously indignant, completely righteously. indignant and sanctimonious when it comes to whatever issue she's being asked about. It could be as nominal as like, do you like cheesecake? And she would sound righteously indignant and she would sound sanctimonious.

Here she is saying that it is time to get rid of the filibuster. And that's why President Trump has said Republicans need to get tough. They need to get smart. And they need to use this option to get rid of the filibuster to reopen the government and do right by the American public. We know Maria, based on the polling and based on common sense that the vast majority of this country wants the government reopened. That's what President Trump is willing to do.

That's what he wants. And he's willing to use any lever to make it happen. I think that this is a lie not only in so far as Donald Trump seems to have no eagerness to get the government open. I think it's a lie insofar as I think Trump loves the government. being closed. The more closed the government is, the more Trump justifies getting away with doing whatever he wants like an authoritarian, which is the way that he likes to rule at the end of the day. The topic of trade deals came up. And Levitt says, we have trillions pouring into the country

because of tariffs, ignoring the little tiny detail that the tariffs are paid by the American companies that import the product. Look at what President Trump has been able to do by leveraging tariffs and leveraging the might of the United States economy. We are the number one consumer country in the world, and every country around the world knows it. It's because of tariffs that President Trump has been effectively able to cut so many tailor-made trade deals with so many countries around the country. Look at what around the world, I mean. Look at what he just did in Asia. You had Malaysia.

You had Japan. You had South Korea. Trade deals all over the place. Trillions of dollars of investments pouring into our country because of his effective use of tariffs. None of that is happening. There are two ways in which this is a lie. Number one, the tariff money itself is paid by American companies.

It's crushing. It's crushing farmers. It's crushing manufacturing. It's a disaster. It's a tax on imports. That's all it is paid by the importer. Secondly, Trump keeps insisting trillions are pouring in. That is very much untrue.

And Trump will often cite completely made up numbers, 7 trillion, 9 trillion. I mean, it's crazy. But what Trump is doing is when someone in the Middle East says to him, hey, we would consider $600 billion in investment over the next 10 years if the projects are right. Trump goes, I'm bringing back $600 billion with me. It is not real. And I believe Caroline Leavitt knows it isn't real. And she is just repeating the same lies that Donald Trump is telling.

Now you want to see an even bigger lie? Here is Caroline Leavitt saying that Democrats are trying to renegotiate the healthcare system they created by which I guess she means Obamacare. This one is so impenetrable. Even Maria Barteromo just sits there and lets the lies pour out of Caroline Leavitt's mouth. We certainly hope so. Look, we open the, we hope the government opens tomorrow. We have been saying this for 32 days in a row.

The Democrats want to try to renegotiate the entire healthcare system that they created, by the way. And that's why they're holding the government hostage. Democrats did not create the healthcare system. The healthcare system being linked to employment and for profit goes back to the period between World War I and World War II. It has nothing to do with Democrats. What she means is Democrats voted for Obamacare in 2010 and Republicans have been doing everything they can to destroy it.

And now Democrats want to try to fix some of the things that are broken. I've started hearing from people about their premiums. We're going to have on Friday feedback. We're going to have some messages from people talking to me about their premiums. I already told you mine is going from 747 a month to like 950 a month if I keep the same plan. enrollment has started now and I'm planning to look at what other plans might be available. These are skyrocketing. It is not because of the system that Democrats made.

Democrats tried to put a Band-Aid on a terrible system. The Band-Aid is Obamacare. And then Trump came in and got rid of the funding for the Band-Aid. He couldn't get rid of the Band-Aid. So he just got rid of the funding for the Band-Aid by saying no more individual mandate. Caroline Levitt must know this. And she says she is on her knees for Jesus. Would Jesus appreciate this level of dishonesty?

Here's one other lie technique. She again talks about leveraging tariffs, but see if you can spot the lie here. Well, we do have backup plans and the president's trade team is working diligently on those contingency plans. But ultimately, Maria, we are hopeful that the Supreme Court will rule on the right side of the law and do what's right for our country. The importance of this case cannot be overstated. The president must have the emergency authority to utilize tariffs. Look at what President Trump has been able to do by leveraging tariffs and leveraging the might of the United States economy.

We are the number one consumer country in the world and every country around the world knows it. Now, what did she do there? It happens to be true. We are the number one consumer country in the world. But that was the case before Donald Trump took office. It was the case before Donald Trump took office the first time. It's the case.
