Be Souls, do you feel like there's any way in particular that as a man, as a creator, as a podcaster, that you're misunderstood?
I feel like my basketball skills are much better than what my size would make.
Ah, you're underrated for your archetype.
Yes.
I would say, at my peak, top five handles for a big person.
Top five and what?
Handles for a big person.
I don't know about top five.
I'm in the top 95 percent of.
There you go.
There you go, there you go.
There's a top five.
To who?
To what?
What's the message?
Yeah, who are like the top five big people
who handles in your mind?
Escalade.
Okay.
You, me.
Okay.
Zion.
Zion.
On some Wilk, bam, Kobe type.
Okay.
That's the big three.
Yeah.
Boris D.L.
Up there.
Boris D.
I handle.
Okay.
And then you.
Yeah.
No, no, I'm two.
Oh, no.
But you can't give yourself one?
No, no, no.
That's escalated.
Salute.
Respect.
Okay.
Very.
Fares.
On that topic, as you guys see by the title, we're here today.
Talk about your picks for the most misunderstood players across NBA history.
I made a community post.
I told you guys to let me know who you think fits that billing.
We're going to react to some of your guys' picks for players that, like I said, are misunderstood.
And specifically why you think they're misunderstood?
Because maybe we agree that this player gets taken for granted or push into a box
doesn't quite fit.
But your reasoning may be very different than ours.
Let's see what they cooked up today.
I hope it's not a crock of poop, but we'll see.
I also agree.
I hope it's not a crock of poop.
That would be nice if it wasn't that.
So, cue the intro music.
Let's talk about the news of the week, like always.
It's our off this Monday episode.
And then get into today's main topic.
We're about to run a mix in four.
Mixing four.
It's all.
It's up.
That big man.
And he's buggy.
Damn.
Damn.
Jesus Christ.
Nuggets!
I could cry.
Brown Eaters rejoice.
Kicking off the NBA news of the week on Monday, September 21st,
we have a very important news story about one of the guys we talked about the most this offseason.
Jalen Brown.
Guy who's added a new skill to his bag.
What is he doing?
He's fencing.
Whoa.
And man, is he in his bag?
Jalen Brown has learned fencing in Italy.
Be-sill, go on play that video clip for us.
He's Mr. Worldwide.
He's Mr. Worldwide.
How do you guys feel about these skills that he's showing off over the course of this video?
How do you feel about his stance?
I feel like out of all of us for some reason.
I have an inkling that Donovan may know something about fencing.
Okay, Donnell, what do you think, Mr. Fencing?
I'm not Mr. Fencing.
Not you own it.
Would you try it?
I would try it.
Of course, yes.
Of course I would try it.
No, he's, never mind.
He's too far forward.
He's little too loose, right?
His offhand is way too loose.
It's like he's like slapboxing.
He's throwing his hand around all willy-nilly.
And you can tell that he's trying to stay on balance.
but he he's opening up too wide yeah and so anybody can come in here they can they can get a touch on
look at the instructor's back hand that holds balance and stillness he's over here
everything ties back to the left hand the handle it makes sense wow I understand it now
okay okay I see he really is this like if I was an NBA player I would spend my summers like this
like every every summer I'm picking up two or three and just new like random hobbies like why why wouldn't
I fence in Italy no fair literally the last
last like time I see why wouldn't I become an artist in potter hell yeah why wouldn't I go chill
with the monks hell yeah bro he was chilling with the Africans he had a new African name I saw that what
is it I don't know well I don't know so he went to Nigeria and they gave him a new name I was like
okay salute to you brother see if you're gonna change it yeah yeah back to your roots all right
career with a little java arc yeah all right if you had to predict which player has that arc
and changes their name in that similar way I think you'd have to pick jaylon brown
John Brown definitely would be the list of he'll be number one on that list.
Actually, no, my back, Kyrie would be number one on the list clearly.
He would have done it by now.
Oh, so, okay.
Yeah.
Okay, so he's past his name change peak.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Because now, because if you go on Kyrie's, like, social media and you follow, like, the things that he either, like, retweets or likes or stuff like that, it's still the same content that he's always been a part of.
Yeah.
But especially since the Nets thing, he's like, it's really.
not worth my time to go back and forth in public with anybody.
So he's not going to change his name.
Okay.
So is Jalen Brown and WarnerLay's.
There's nobody else that would occur to us to put above him?
Yeah, I think it's Jalen Brown.
I would think maybe Jimmy Butler,
because he just seems like that type of guy to just does whatever.
He'd do like on some the Pandas friend type thing.
Not Kareem because I don't think he was motivated that way.
But I could see him being the Pandas friend like run our test.
Coffee man.
You change the name to that?
Yeah.
Yes, exactly.
I could see that.
Jimmy Coffington.
I feel like MPJ might change his name to like make some weird point or something.
I don't know if he didn't know how to fill out the forms.
Yeah, I don't know.
That's a long legal contract.
Well, he has assistance.
But yeah, he got people to do it.
But they got to ask him to sign off on some shit.
I think it's not worth his time to him.
It'll be on a docu sign.
He's just going to click and he's going to sign.
You're asking a lot.
You're asking a lot.
Here, here, here, where?
What does that mean?
It's highlighted.
We have Jalen Brown is fencing now.
Just thought we should react
to the most important news of the week
to start this episode.
Now let's move on to something far less monumental.
Kyle Lowry is receiving his statue
outside of the Raptors Arena.
And it looks like a dinosaur.
What do you guys think about this statue
dedicated to Kyle Lowry?
It's obviously not his face,
but it says the greatest Raptor of all time
and shows the Raptor's logo
with his jersey on it outside of Scotia Bank Arena.
So, at first...
You're from Kyle Lowry. I'm pissed.
What?
You're respecting you.
me, you give me my jersey number, but then you put a big ass dinosaur head in a tail.
You dehumanize me.
See, so I, okay, at first, I thought of that.
At first, I thought of that, like, it is weird to not have your face on the statue
because it makes it seem like it's just a, like a Raptor's tribute type of thing.
However, given the state of NBA statues over the last four to five years, I think this is the
safest option for the Raptors to go with to not disrespe.
a league, not a league, a team legend.
Yeah.
I think, I think it is very easy to put a dinosaur face on there.
I also think that nobody gives a damn if the dinosaur looks like the actual logo.
This is the best way that they can do it.
Yeah.
I also, I understand the initial thought to be like, damn, he can't get his face.
I think it's kind of endearing.
It's also unique.
Yeah, it's unique for one.
It's also kind of endearing, I think, to like be your Mr. Raptor.
The logo is you.
The mascot is you.
He wears your jersey.
You're so associated with the team that, like,
You and our team logo that represents us are synonymous.
I understand that.
And that's very much true.
But give me my face.
But do you know how confused and perplex his kids or his kids' kids might be?
You know, granddad.
Oh, the fuck, that's a dinosaur.
What are you talking about?
Barney, what are you talking about?
So if he's just a thing, now on the statue, it says, like, greatest raptor of all time.
Yeah.
And so.
And his name on it.
Yeah.
He's kind of crazy.
And a lot of times, like, you have the statue, but you also have other little, like, small monuments where you have, like, little pictures or blurbs or graphs and stuff explaining some more history.
If you add that to this, to the statue and you start building out this part, then that's, that's really good.
That's really cool.
We're also avoiding the elephant in the room.
If they were to make the statue, certain things are hard to translate to bronze.
They're either going to overdo or underdo the caboose.
They weren't going to accurately represent the defining feature of Kyle Lowe.
So they didn't even try.
They said, we're not going,
we don't have the capabilities.
We don't know how to do it anymore.
They took the easier out.
They just put a big ass tail on him.
That's it, bro.
And it's right.
You either gonna offend him by not give him enough ass
or be like, I don't have that much ass calm down.
So they don't even try.
They did they run from the ass.
It would be kind of nasty if you under BBL statue.
Exactly.
But it ended up nasty at the minimal excuse.
I mean, I do squats.
That's not me.
Me, I'm pro BBL statues.
For Kyle Liring in this moment.
And that's fair.
If it was me in the game of BBL statue, I'd be pissed.
Yeah.
You got me looking like a city girl.
This is ridiculous.
It's not what you represent.
But for Kyle Lari,
there'll be charges he took.
He took,
he took, bro,
and he's in the prime peak of his career.
He's proud of his similarities in city girls.
Are you pro BBO statue?
Dude,
I want Kyle Lauer to look like Ruby Rose.
That's...
Material girl.
He said,
I'm glad you asked.
I would love for this Carl Lari's
to ask you to be thick.
Didn't even have to think of it twice.
I've been waiting for you.
Specifically,
Ruby Rose thick.
Oh, my God.
Yeah, you pulled out a cut.
Come on.
You had very clear where he stands on the matter.
Fair.
But otherwise, I think it's a good statue.
I think your point of a lot of statues these days look terrible and they look nothing
like him.
I do like the unique aspect of it.
And I think it's a good way to honor Kyle Lowry.
Is this the first statue that they have?
The Raptors?
Yeah.
I would assume so.
Probably should be a franchise.
Right?
So, like, I think it is cool to set the tone of your statue part, whatever it is.
Yeah.
with a with like a dinosaur i think that's i also think there's probably some element of like
knowing ourselves the franchise like we're not the lakers we don't need to have all these stars
and like legends of their faces in the forefront we don't have that many of them it might look
a little weird if it's just kai lary so maybe in anticipation that this is their only statue for a
while and we're not to like glamorous like put it out there type of team it makes sense to link him
to the logo like that so you just have a statue a bunch of fucking dinosaurs in the future
i was gonna yeah i was i was gonna ask that what if in the future you just have dinosaur
statues you just put the jerseys on it that's awesome a bunch of rap
and doing different poses.
And you do that in front of,
because you know how they have the watch parties
outside the stadium?
And it's like Jurassic Park.
This is the entrance to Jurassic Park
and it's hell of dinosaurs.
That's awesome.
And you're probably,
that is probably what they're doing.
Now you're saying that
because he's doing the hand-up point guard pose
that he does calling the plays.
If they did a Kauai one for some reason.
Defensive stance.
Defense stance or jump shot,
whatever it is in a raptor.
Okay, I understand it now.
Now I like it a lot.
When Vince Carter gets his,
now you have the dunking raptor.
It's going to be,
I do them.
Arm in the Raptor.
I think that they have a lot of potential
for one of the best statue parks in the NBA.
Once you pull up, you're going to be like, damn,
this looks like Jurassic Park.
It is Jurassic Park.
Exactly.
Hard.
Exactly.
I like this.
I love this now.
I'm on board for that.
That single revelation,
you just made change this entire segment for me.
No,
I love it.
I love it when you had another one.
It just weird standing alone for me right now.
Everything has to start somewhere.
Scottie's coming.
Sure.
Scottie's coming.
Have you seen Jurassic Park?
Yeah.
Don't pause me on that.
Come on.
No, no.
I'm just saying, Scott.
Oh, oh.
You don't these worthy of a statue?
It's your four.
I'm just kidding.
I mean, but we're, we'll see.
He should be the question.
Scottie should come.
He should come and get that statue.
Like, he should be on the way.
He should be the next one in their minds.
But okay, speaking of the next one,
damn tomorrow and I'll get in a statue.
That's a weird.
It's a weird thing.
Yeah, it is.
I think if the plan is to have all those,
listen, again, understand you're not the Lakers.
You don't have these superstars.
You're not the Celtics.
A Jersey,
time it's probably enough for DeRoson.
It is, objectively.
I also wouldn't be mad if they gave him a statue because they want to build a Jurassic
Park. And if 30 years from now we look back and they have
six or seven of them out there, DeRosen will probably fit amongst them and be fine.
Like him next to Lowry would probably be befitting of a young team that was pretty
successful in this era. I'm not mad at them to give him a statue.
Okay.
Now he would be, it would be the funniest statue in terms of like actually deserving one.
But for that context, I wouldn't be mad at it.
Okay.
But speaking of our next topic, speaking of guys that are up next,
Assar Thompson has been paid soon after a man was paid a couple weeks ago.
The bag has been giving out to Assar, not Jalen Dern.
In this tweet we see just in all defensive forward,
Assar Thompson has reached agreement on a five-year,
$155 million rookie scale contract extension,
$31 million a year.
How does that feel for Assar Thompson?
That feels in this new age.
I know it sounds crazy because like he's such a one-way player,
but it feels just about right.
He's one of the best defenders.
I probably would say the best defense.
vendor in his position probably as like a marginal gap too when it comes to that well deserved i think
it's going to be interesting to see how they build out the team around him kate obviously and then
whatever happens with durin because that's just like a big ass elephant in the room but well-deserved
yeah i i i agree with everything that you said if i'm durin i'm pissed i'm walking up to the front
office i'm like he shoots 20% from three the optics are what's funny for durin that like you're still in
this standoff.
Yeah.
Everyone's pointing
the guns in every which direction
and somebody puts their gun on
for a second to call off us arm
and be like,
here's some money.
It's quite funny to do it
in this time.
He's like,
wait, wait,
so you guys had money after all?
Yeah,
this song somebody just made
things a little worse.
I thought you said you were
having to do it.
What happened?
Yeah.
And does it actually make a difference?
No.
I mean, they were always
to do it this time.
It's just how it goes.
But if I'm Jalen Duren,
I'm already upset about everything
and I'm already finding a reason
to be upset about everything.
What more reason for me?
He's going to ask 20 mil more after this.
At a spite.
He wants to go.
He does.
They're committing to everybody else on this team except for him.
It is a little weird.
I shouldn't say it's weird because we all understand why they're in this spot based on his performance based on the second apron.
We all understand from both sides why everyone's upset.
I'm gaining more and more understanding of him as weeks go on.
When's the last time a year four breakout star that made all NBA as a center didn't get paid?
Like what he wanted?
Like that never happens.
to be the first all-MBA young center
who doesn't get his money
you're the first one that
has to see the wallets be tightened a little bit
yeah that's tough
I mean that's I mean yes it's tough
but also it's also because of the environment
that rain going back to you said the second
second heap and shit but also too
we don't see young stars like this
got in back to back years
in like such a loud way
center specifically
do you think that's really why
you think the pistons are really like
hey man you playoff dropped I got to take away some money
like I think so
I feel like as a team, you probably can't communicate it that way.
Maybe, like, maybe we all know what's up.
But, like, I feel like if you're talking to his agent, you can't be like, you're better
in the playoffs.
Like, I imagine that's not how the combos actually go.
I think, yes, but I also think that the pistons over the last two years have been very clear
of we're going to stick with our guys with our core.
Like, we are going to give them every opportunity to step up into the moment and we're
going to ride these waves out.
And these are our guys and we're sticking with them.
And the fact that we're here in this off season
And Dern is a part of that
And he's up for his extension
And they haven't been
We're giving you the money
You're part of our future
I think it is part of
I think the playoff performance is a part of that
And I think that for them
Because of the second apron
Lowkey we're like
Hey I'm kind of glad that we
Now that we have this out
Because he's not a
He's not like a top five center
In the league
But could he be that?
If he may think the chances there he becomes fifth?
Maybe, but I do think that for everybody, regardless if you're on the outside or on the inside, a playoff stinker is a playoff stinker.
And it changes everybody's perception of you.
So the fact that he had that for really the entire playoffs for both rounds, that is something that it's concerning.
But I ask that you think that, because obviously anybody can take a leap, right?
But at this point in year four and you had to give a deal like this in the specific situation they're in, it really does come down to what you think would be in the next two years.
Like what you think his rebuttal to this playoff stinker is, where you think he can go ceiling-wise, how much defensively can improve, how much the playmaking and jumps you can come around?
Like, it really does come down to, I think, do you believe he can be the fifth best set in the league over the next two years?
Yeah.
And this tells me they probably don't.
Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
I agree.
And I wouldn't necessarily cash my money in that, too.
If I was to, like, predict right now, is he going to make an all-MBA team again next year?
I would say, hell no.
No, hell no.
He made it for, he made it.
because we thought Kate couldn't make it in.
And the people that were voting gave him a vote.
And last second, Kate could be voted.
So they had already decided their voting during.
So now they voted both.
Like, he made it for very specific circumstances for a season that it's going to be
hard for them to replicate in terms of a win total.
Yeah.
But this is shocking, though, because for a guy who is coming off a 20 and 10 season,
has played 70 plus games in the last two years in the league where nobody plays 70 games
at all.
You drafted him as a project.
And now he is flourishing.
into one of the best players in the NBA,
you don't want to give him his money?
Like, I would be, I would be so pissed if I was doing every single day.
Both sides are very understandable in this.
But again, shout out to us are getting paid $31 million a year.
I think they have $14 million less than a men, which makes sense.
You're worth about 75% of your brother?
Cool.
And if any semblance of a jump shot, if that thing gets to 30%,
I feel like we're past that.
That's 30?
We'll see.
Whatever the number is.
I mean, a small sample, he could probably get a two attempt at game season to hit 30.
I'm not shocked.
That's all I want.
I'm past like if you get a jumper, you're a superstar.
I feel like with them, I'm taking them for what they are now.
Which is still worth this money.
But yeah, I'm just, I'm exiting the portion of the development where I'm like, wait till
the jumper comes.
I'll need to be surprised at this point.
Yeah, superstars not really in my question, but.
Oh, whatever.
Whatever do you think that comes from that?
I'm just past like assuming a leap is coming in terms of shooting.
I want to be pleasantly surprised at this point.
I'm hoping, yeah, I think for the pistons, they also hope they're obviously like, want
to be pleasantly surprised about a jumper.
But because even if he can,
get to like 30% obviously the gravity is never going to be insane but you can make somebody pay
one time in a playoff series that's all you need yeah yeah speaking of contracts being paid out
assar's not the only one that got paid this week in fact he there's many we're going to talk about
today next up pell larsin has been paid 15 million dollars a year over four years by the miami
heat with a mutual option for the 231 season which you don't see that often combination of both
player and team option. We both got to agree we want to be here for 2031.
How do you feel about this one? Fifteen million dollars a year for what I think would be their
six man this year, maybe seventh man, depending on how certain things shake out. This is your guy.
Yeah, exactly. I like him a lot. You can have both a player and a team. I thought it was either
or. Usually it is either or a mutual option is extremely rare. Yeah. Especially for a deal like this.
Like it's quite interesting. Okay. They need, they need bodies. I think he's a good productive
player. Makes sense. What circumstance? What circumstance would lead you to not want to do a mutual option?
where you have to both agree you want out.
I don't want you and you don't want us.
I feel like that has to be pretty rare for a player, a role player.
Because either he's underperforming and he wants to keep his money
or it's overperforming wants to get paid and which the team is like,
not, buddy, stay here.
Both sides is unserved everything, right?
Honestly.
It's essentially a team option.
The both are decisive, yeah.
But it's not because the team wants to kick you to the curve and he's like,
not give you that money.
Then the mutual option kicks in and he stays.
They both have to agree.
I assume the default if there's a split decision as you stay.
Maybe that's not the case.
I don't know.
Yeah.
Actually, yeah, I think it has to be, right?
Just logically.
So I think it's maybe.
I guess that means basically it's a guaranteed year
unless both parties want to opt out
and agree to an extension
because you earn more
and then want to give it to them early.
I guess that's basically what it turns into.
Unique as though.
Yeah.
How do you feel $15 million a year?
You know, most of these deals are signed these days.
It's like, oh, cap inflation, everything's a good deal.
I've seen some people on Twitter be like, I don't know.
I like them, but $15 million a year is a lot.
Yeah, I mean the...
The shot isn't there with him.
And so there's something that I think they're going to need for him to develop.
But I also think that I am on that school of like as soon as you sign the deal, it's okay.
And especially now that you have, Janice, you are in this window of, you know, three, three years where you have something to shake.
So if nothing ever works out, then it's fine.
Also for a lot of role player deals, if you get a solid role player under 20 million,
good for you.
Yeah.
That's, that's basically my, my thing.
Yeah.
So I'm, I like it.
I think it's fine.
Tim and Nicole Yovitch, man.
One of them two,
got to make a real difference
for the team next year.
Nicole Yovish, man,
you better hit this year.
You're traded at the deadline.
Yeah.
Traded at the deadline.
I say, or you see the headlines now.
He's gonna be on the nets or something.
I can see it.
I won't be surprised.
Yeah.
I mean,
fall off is so crazy.
Is it a fall off or was he ever like up?
Like,
it was like theoretically.
I mean, he shot
To phone
That one year
Which I guess really correlates
That's why he got paid
Because he was like he made the leap
So for two years he shot Wolfram 3
Yeah
37 and 39%
And last year was just a really weird
He shot like 36% from the field
26 from 3
It's just a really weird year for it
Okay you got it that is a fall off
I retract my statement
Kiante George has also been paid
Walker Kistler's gone
Probably in part because they knew
They had to pay both him
And Kiante and he elected
To trade the guy for picks
And paid the other one
Kianti George has signed a five-year,
$157.5 million rookie scale contract with the franchise.
How do you guys feel about $32 million a year, Kianti George?
Yo, that's a great deal.
No, that's a great deal.
For a guy who showed immense, like, promise offensively,
he made a considerable leap.
He was once viewed as, like,
just one of the most unproductive players in the NBA on both sides,
and then he really leveled up offensively, got a shot together.
he was ushering himself into the rim.
He really, like, had a different, he played with a different pace and everything just made
like a lot more sense when it comes to his use of movements on the basketball court.
Good deal.
He's not an all-star yet, but this is like damn near like fringe, high-level starter money right here.
I don't, yeah, I don't know if it's a, I don't know if it's a good deal yet.
Because I think that you said that he is one of, that he used to be one of the most unproductive players
on both sides of the basketball.
Now he's just one of the most
on one side.
I'm protective on one side.
I would like my $31 million a year player
be productive on both sides, at least a little bit.
And it is, it's what?
I also think it's unique because for the last three years,
everyone's been saying, hey, if you're like a smaller garden,
all you do is score, we don't really have a place for you.
And then here he comes in getting, you know, 30 mil.
Also, the jazz as a concept,
I don't know what they're doing.
They're roster construction over the next couple of years
is going to be really interesting to see what they do.
But I think we still need to see another level from Kianti before I can say it's a,
it's a good deal.
But if I can say, I'm going to say it's a good deal right now and jump ahead of it because
I look at all the other guys who's getting paid roughly the same amount, whether it be someone
like Jalen Johnson or even the guy we just talked about recently.
Is he as good as Jaylon Johnson?
Huh?
Is he as good as Jaylon Johnson?
Obviously not.
That deal was, that deal was crazy as fuck.
Jalen's fucking fire his age.
It was insane.
insane, but Asar got like roughly the same amount of money and he's a one-way player as well.
Interesting.
Well, yes, I'm just saying that they are kind of a parallel of each other.
Do you think though that is Asar's offense better than Keanu's defense in terms of which one will hurt you more?
Like right now, if they're not a playoff team in their serious way, if they were and they're in a conference championship series,
Keonti's defense got loose you a series if he's targeted in a certain way.
Yeah.
Now maybe they can game plan for it and it doesn't become that.
like there's a world in which that's like a serious detriment especially it's easy to imagine a young
guard never been there before having a poor shooting slump because he's facing elite defenses and then getting
targeted and shit to spirals right?
Really easy to map out the downside of kiante if they make the playoffs this year.
Is a sars offense that level of like it can fuck you?
No on a scale one to ten probably not yeah no it just isn't now of course with kiyanth his contract comes
with like obviously way more variance because if he came out and not necessarily it was an all
Star, if he average like 22, 23 and 6 a night or whatever it is on efficient scoring while
also improving his defense because he has the opportunity to scale back because Jaron's back there
and they have maybe a 1% better defensive infrastructure.
Like that one, that one surprised me.
Yeah.
The upside is mad high with this.
I think this makes sense because in about 12 months, their best players have been a ricky deal.
And I think you pay Keonté while DP's cheap.
And then when DP is ready by year four or five to be the lead guard, you ship Keiante out,
get someone cheaper and kind of go like that.
Yeah, kind of works.
Is that the official nickname?
Are we just, we're going with DP for it?
You don't like it?
I just, I haven't heard it yet.
I didn't know if that was,
if that's like what we were doing already.
I feel like we kind of just go on the fly,
whatever sticks things.
I feel like we kind of just had letters.
That's what I'm saying.
I think.
Are you asked me to analyze my own comment just now?
A little bit.
Because I think, I think we need to be a little bit more forward thinking
about some of the nicknames.
Hey, she's strong.
Hey, Boo got something to say about your bullshit, man.
You weren't on the Y cam so you didn't see it.
We just climbed up the couch.
She's like Spider-Man just now.
She got something to say about Kianti.
She's strong.
I think, yeah, the, because.
People do come DP.
Okay.
On Twitter, I see the lot written out.
I haven't heard people verbally be like, oh, DP's playing tonight.
But I do see a lot of written out, DP.
You might be the first.
To verbalize it.
To verbalize D.
Maybe.
Yeah, I think, like in a playoff series, like you were saying, if he drops at all,
it's an issue.
Yeah.
Where I think with Asar,
if for a lot of these guys who are
one way players, especially defensively,
you always talk about, you know,
people sagging off of them in the playoffs and
making them shoot,
that's also a
an issue of team construction.
Like you can have,
I genuinely think that you can have one guy like that.
Yeah.
Where they're just,
they're a non-factor as a,
as a shooter,
but the rest of your team has to,
has to make up for it.
And the pistons are just like, no, we want Cade and all types of guys like that.
So it's a different thing.
So I do think that Asar and his deal is better than Keontes and his deal.
It can go either way.
We'll see.
It really depends what he does this coming year.
It's easy to imagine him not being the worst defender in a league next year and figuring it out.
And all of a sudden, he's maybe an All-Star.
Like that's in the cards and the deal's fine.
Or he doesn't.
And we look back and say, this is a very whatever deal that we're happy to move off of because
D.P.'s team is ready for him.
Yeah.
Can truly go either way.
Next one that does not have nearly as much variance to it.
Sadiq Bay has been paid by the New Orleans Pelicans.
Because as you mentioned over the summer,
they are a like 10-win team that loves all their players
and pays all their players and isn't trading a soul.
Now I do like Sidney Bay, though, so good for him.
Three-year, 55.5 million dollar extension
for, like I said, the team that continues to keep all their players.
Yo, who are they competing against against Sadiq Bay?
I'm glad you said that because the money itself is fine for Sadiq Bay.
He had a very good season.
I would love to have him on my team.
it's a Lakers that paid a
agency I'd be ecstatic
Plus a trade kicker
Is written on this tweet
The game a trade kicker
They love them
See that's the point where I'm like
They love all their players
And they say we want you here so bad
That you get you to stay
Trust in us we won't trade you
We'll give you a trade kicker
That I imagine that kicks it up to like
Probably $20 million a year
Or something if you get traded
That's bad jamming
Look, Sadiq's a good player man
And he can help a lot of teams
Be better at the end of the day
But again
What is this doing for them
in their organizations.
You know what's funny?
I would say it retains him a good player,
which is good asset management,
that they could trade in the future.
But they gave him a trade kicker.
And then I would say,
okay,
I like Sidique Bay a lot.
I think you could trade,
trade Murphy or something,
or trade Herb Jones or something,
and cash in and just starts Sidique Bay
because I think he showed
he's really good last year.
But they love those guys
and we'll trade them.
So now I'm just like,
okay, well,
this is your team and you like all your guys,
and I guess Saddek Bay is one of those guys forever.
I guess so,
but you have to trade some people.
They got better at the math room now, too.
We've been saying this.
They got to trade some people and they just don't.
And they show no indications of it.
They leak that they won't because they love these guys.
It's like they have 10 sons and they won't get rid of any of them from their lives
because they're sons and they birth them.
This year, Zion is making 42.
Jordan Poole is making 34.
This is last year, though.
Dejante Murray is making 32 or actually 33.
Trey Murphy's making 27.
You just have a whole bunch of expensive guys for y'all to win 15 games.
All of which are tradable.
Yeah.
All of them.
Not a single soul and there isn't tradingable.
But they said, you know what?
We don't want to do that.
We like them.
Like I said, they're my sons.
They just have to be the best guys.
Like the best hangs.
Blood don't mean none for real, man.
It means something, but you could donate that shit, man.
It doesn't mean anything.
It means everything to Joe Dumars.
I guess.
It means everything.
It's just so crazy.
This guy was in like the league office making real life decisions for the NBA
bro. That's crazy.
Maybe he was great that job. Not this one.
Different job.
Yeah, but shout out to the big and paid. Very good player. Good for him.
Outside the trade kicker. And no, it's still good for him on the trade kicker.
All of this, good for him.
I'm Pelican's fan. I'd continue to have bad days after bad days.
Sometimes you just got to go back, especially with older players that are now in management
positions. You got to just go back and watch highlights to remember the good about them.
Like before Joe Dumars was a bad game.
DM nasty two guard
Champion,
lockdown.
Two-way demon.
Yeah,
you have to go back
and remind yourself
why he was in these positions
that he's in right now.
It's because he was a Hooper, man.
And we can never lose sight of that.
Speaking of Hoopers,
next thing we're going to talk about
Anthony Edwards is back
with another ad.
And guess what?
It's generational.
They put out an ad for his new AE3 sneaker,
as I assume it's for the AE3,
where he is doing
a late-night show,
stand-up set talking about his rivals
across the league,
Rost and everybody.
And as a few of them want to highlight,
you guys can go watch the full thing
to see all the jokes he made.
He cooked LeBron and Jalen Brown.
Beasol, what did he say in this video
about LeBron and Jailon Brown?
I just had to read it.
Anthony Edwards rose LeBron.
He was going to join me in Minnesota,
but I guess his knees
couldn't handle the cold weather.
Philly got the best barbers in the world
between him and the old boy from Boston.
They're going to have a lot of enhancements
in the locker room.
Okay.
W. Rose?
Todd Rose.
Good rose.
That's good.
That's good.
Good stuff.
Good stuff.
Good writers.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Good writers.
Do they have the best barbers in Philly?
I have no fucking idea.
I don't think so.
Just because of the way that Philly guys do their beard and the fact that...
How do they do their beard again?
Their beards are very, uh, airy, very, very, very, very, very, very stony out.
Boneless.
Yeah.
You've seen that they grow them long comb them out?
Yeah.
And you can see a lot of the like split ends at the end.
It's like a stylistic choice.
There's like all like a lot like Philly dudes don't have full looking beards.
Damn.
They are there are very, they're very, very string.
Philly dudes have split ends.
Their beards are not.
It's not it's not the best.
It's not my particular look for a for a beard.
But so I can't say that they have the best barbers.
However, Brown's going to be in in New York City.
You know that they have good barbers.
Okay.
Some Philly dude watching this right now saying stupid, go band for bamboo right now, beer for beard.
Listen, you get me, listen, it's all the way back.
It's on the way back.
Oh, yeah.
And it will have more, more fullness to it than what a regular, like, Philly beer should be.
Okay.
They should trim them a little bit more often.
Okay.
I love that he's, like, talking.
Like, I love that he's openly talking about LeBron thought about coming here and didn't pick us and I'm cooking them for it.
Yeah.
I love the audacity.
I feel like you don't, you never see another player talking about something that, like, behind the scenes.
It's usually like through a burner
Or some shit like that
Yeah
He thought about coming here
He didn't pick me
He couldn't handle it
Old man had to go somewhere else
I feel like you never see shit like that
Yeah
Did this shoe actually come out yet or now?
I think it's coming soon
I don't think it's out yet
But it's like revealed
And it's on the way
But this is one of many jokes in this
He also made a good joke by his teammate
Lamello Ball
Beasles what did he say
One thing we ain't doing
Is carpooling if he's driving
I ain't riding with him y'all
I know he wrote this for sure
and his delivery was good
very good commercial
okay okay
this is face of the league type stuff right here man
he really does have a face of the league type
of team of Adidas they know what they're doing
more than like anybody else
they're so like
do you think if you went to Nike or whatever
they would let him like do this type of stuff
or do you think it was like Adidas only
who have this creative yes
that one is you ever heard
say speaking in a commercial
nah
not once what the fuck was Conver's doing
he's with Nike now
you ever heard Jaws speaking a commercial
I haven't seen John in a commercial.
Precisely.
Maybe that's a Jaws thing, but I don't see any of these guys in commercials.
Maybe Nike thinks they're above that.
Yeah, Nike's very much like...
Just do it.
Yeah.
They're not going to give people the space to have a talk show like this.
They're very much with like phrases and you're going to speak in like riddles and good like copyright.
Like that's, that is how that is how you're going to present you so and we're going to create this like aura around you.
but just going out there and doing something like this,
that's not that.
And that's not necessarily a wrong way to go about it.
You know what you said?
Or is the way they do it,
say less and be a symbol where they're like,
we got this guy who has a hell of a personality.
Let him show it.
Yeah.
And honestly,
like,
I did this really hasn't even done this with any other stars too, right?
Like Hardin's never done anything like this.
I don't remember.
You've heard him doing this.
He's not charismatic enough for all that.
Dame?
I guess they have him rap.
Yeah.
But there's an aunt's helping them trailblaze.
Yeah.
He's never had a personality.
It's a new way to show.
The great.
The interesting part about this, though, because he took the shots at Braun and Jena Brown.
He also once again took a shot at Shea as well because he was doing the whole set.
And then he was saying like, yeah, you know, we're going to be ready for everybody.
And then deadpaned to the camera and was like, and I'm talking to, you know who too.
And so this like cold war between him and Shay is hilarious because it is a one-sided beef.
I don't think that Shay cares in the least at all because they just.
smoked them every time
he's maybe beat him
in individual games like twice
or three times in his entire career
yeah the championship year
they took some games off him
they went up in the series
got a little spooky
they immediately responded
and we'll put the shit out of them
in close the series
and even even in regular season games
he hasn't even outplayed him
in regular season games
it's still a gap that's so nice
that's also makes it nice
is like he's doubling down
he's like no I'm still coming
like I'm not down for the count
I'm still I still want his throne
but when does it in though
never he's on top
he's like he continues
he gets his ass beat
like this never ends
At a certain point, because I already saw people quote to him the, the clip of him going at as Shay.
And they're like, hey, man, it gets to a point where you need to start producing some results on this side of the beef.
But I think it's worse, though.
You're right, clearly.
But I think it might be worse if you're the guy that talks and calls him out and then he beat you a couple times.
You stop.
You got me.
It might be a little worse.
I think he could still be strategic about it.
I don't think it has to be every time, every, every commercial.
Because he is very, especially at this point, he's very open that he thinks that he's better than
Shea.
Yeah.
And he thinks that, like, that's his crown.
But you just haven't, you got outplayed him.
And She's two MVP.
You got to get one.
You have to get something.
I mean, a scoring title, an MVP, you got to beat him in the playoffs.
She has everything.
He's taking your whole life.
What are you prepared to do about it?
do you have to do more than commercials
yeah man beer grown haircut
you don't have a beer grown man
he just has a little goat tea grown hair cut
yeah that's it
team back what a conference finals
appearance I'm starting the agenda
oh my good
ish
speaking of agendas
Chad Colby
my best
listen keep that in the tuck
because that was actually fantastic
expansion
may be coming to the NBA sooner than we thought
Adam Silver in the board of governors last week
Actually, no, they didn't say that.
This was reported by ESPN.
ESPN is reporting that Las Vegas and Seattle expansion teams
are increasingly expected to officially join the NBA
as soon as 2008.
Now, I don't know what that means the 27-28 season
or the 28-29 season.
I imagine it means 28-29.
And like the expansion draft happens
like around the regular draft after the 27-28 season.
So summer 2028, we could see the expansion teams come.
Hey, that's tough.
I don't, bro.
So in an expansion league,
that means that they would have to sit down
and like every team has the right.
to lock up eight players or so or whatever it is.
You know, the content that day is going to be mad.
It's the content of the year before.
The expansion I already saw YouTubers out here spamming expansion picks for teams,
like four years before it happens.
Yeah.
I'm like, I'm not doing that.
I don't even.
Who knows when it's going to happen.
But the year leading up, everyone's making content about who you protect, who you don't.
Yo.
This is.
Free eats.
This is dumb.
You don't think we need two more teams?
I don't.
I don't.
I actually think it's,
I think it's doing a lot and to a certain level, performative.
When people online are like, oh my God, player X doesn't have a job.
We need expansion.
Like we're saying this for a potential 12th man on a team.
I think we're doing a lot.
And I would like also for the league to get through this trial period of the
new lottery odds to see what to see how like the tanking feels in in this new system because if they if they
change it and now and now you're switching all these other things I think adding two more expansion
teams that are not expected to be title contenders and you're kind of watering the watering the
debt watering down the league for the moment um I think that is a little bit detrimental and I it
it feels like they're rushing to do a lot and like the athletic put out a piece this morning they're talking
about the they're talking about expansion as well if the the Vegas team they're really really
pushing for the Vegas team and they want they if they got the Vegas team tomorrow they would
but like they just keep having rounds and rounds of bids they don't even have uh they don't
necessarily have a stadium locked down for where they're they're going to play and like that that's
still in the cars but they are really making it seem like the the Vegas thing needs to happen as
soon as possible yeah and it feels a little rushed I get it I don't like
need expansion in my heart, I'm also not mad at if they do. Like it will water it on the league.
There will be shitty teams. It is exaggerated, like you said, the amount of players that deserve
to be on a team or whatever verbage you want to apply to it. It's also fine. I don't know.
Like, it'll be all right. It'll be the same way it always is, right? Like, it's not even a,
it's not even really a question to me. Like, we know what will happen. The league will be
watered down. Teams will be worse. The best teams will dominate like they did after expansion
last time. Eventually they'll recuperate. Training staffs will get better at scouting teams and
will find more diamonds in the rough and shit will even out over time like it always does across every sport.
I'm kind of okay with it.
If they want that for the team right now, they feel like they want more teams in the mix for certain markets.
They feel like they're ready to have that economic boost, you know, Adam's the Oro always wants.
I'm kind of fine with it either way.
And like an expansion draft for lower tier players who are unprotected, who you think off top of your head would be like probably it's in for a number one pick.
I can't even say it's so hard to know.
Zachary Rich Shade going number one again.
Yeah, when we talked about it before, it'll probably be gamified too, where they don't protect big contracts along off the books.
So it'll probably be a sub bonus or something that gets taken.
Yeah.
Maybe that wants to be there.
You know, a young franchise and expansion team, you're going to suck.
You need players like that to, like, put bus in seats for a new arena.
You can't be a tanking team and you're one of a team.
And you've got to try to win and be entertaining.
So I imagine the Seattle Supersonics would take a sub bonus if he's there.
Okay.
Or a, I don't know.
Who else fits that billing?
Dierrin Fox or whoever may be that they want to offload a contract for a good player.
That's like a directly helpful, but they want to clear the books.
If you're the songs, you take socks.
Or you take Fox.
That's going to be Paolo's new city, bray.
He's from Seattle, so I think.
Yeah, I think he's from Seattle.
That would be a 100 IQ decision, but they're not going to do that.
Honestly.
Yeah, that economic boom is going to be crazy.
They're asking for $10 billion for the Vegas team.
And they're probably going to get it.
Jeez, bro.
And so if you're getting $10 billion, they said that the Seattle team is going to be much less
and that they have like, the Seattle one is,
They're slow playing it, but they kind of have like an option for what it, for the, for the owner.
There's just for the for the Vegas team there's bid after bid after bid and they're going to do another round of bidding coming up.
But it's not going to be like the final round of bids.
They just they just keep trying to cycle through and filter through all these bids.
But I just, yeah, they just seem like like busy bodies.
Yeah.
They are.
Matt Mesa Hover's whole thing.
He just stays busy, stays adding money to the league.
Which is probably, like, I think that's his overall, like, that's his fatal flaw, I think,
which is, like, because in part, that's his job, is to make sure that the league financially,
to make sure that the owners financially make money.
But also, I think that a lot of our gripes over time is that he does things that are pretty
short-sighted.
Yep.
And doesn't necessarily think about the long-term health of the league.
And so then as that happens, now we get four years down the line.
And he's still thinking like, oh, now I have to fix this problem.
Now have to fix this problem.
And he's going to NBA Twitter to find solutions.
That's why I think I just don't have the best, the most faith in silver and the league to conduct this process in like the right way.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Unfortunately, he has the same symptoms as every other corporation in the past 15 years.
It's all just about squeezing short-term gains.
It's a very late-stage capitalism thing.
The NBA is no different.
Yeah.
He leans into it more than more.
He's like, man, I have an NBA.
I understand this shit.
They don't.
Goodell's not on this type of time.
But Goodell is.
He's way better at his job.
He's way better at his job.
He's laughing him.
Unfortunately, everyone, unfortunately, Godell's the goat.
And if, like, if Adam Silver had half of his foresight to maintain the integrity of the league and, like, the allure of the league, the NBA being in a much better spot.
In his, so, and he's, so he said in the, in one of the press conferences that, because somebody asked him about the second apron, he's like,
you know, that they took it from, that they took the model from the NFL to have this,
this level of parity.
And so he wouldn't admit that it's like working, but it was like, this is the results of it.
And this is kind of what we wanted.
So low key it is working.
Yeah.
But in his defense, if this is what he thinks it takes for the league to get to a point where
every market feels seen and heard and valued and you can get 20 years down the line and you're
in a different space.
you are now, then, okay, so be it.
And we just, and we just may be like, you know,
holding on to something that just isn't going to be here anymore.
100%.
Yeah.
That's how I feel about the lottery odds thing, too, that like we're holding on to,
it's weird and different, but it could be healthier for league.
We'll see.
Yeah, I mean, listen, every fan base in the NFL, feel like it's their year.
The Panthers can tell themselves they have a chance to make a run.
Why, why shouldn't they?
Everybody except for Falcons fans?
Yeah, exactly.
And there's like,
Turno Hill.
There's like 15 NBA teams that would never dream of telling themselves that.
In a just world, the Orlando Magic with Palo and Fron should feel like they have a chance to win the finals this year.
In an NFL type world, I should say.
Yeah, true.
Because they're like, I don't know, who's another major team like them, that they're just a team that's good, that could win games, but not.
Like the bucks.
The books are consistently just like, yeah, we can do something.
We can make a run.
Like the Lions, they feel the same way too.
Yeah, like the Magic can be the Vikings or something where everyone feels like it can be their year if they win the division.
I guess that's what they're aiming for in the NBA.
And then you walk into a seven-game series.
Like if-
That's the part that makes it unavoidable.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That tells the truth of so much.
If the Bucks had to play a three-game series against a playoff contended, like,
they never win.
Yeah.
You're getting smoked.
Yeah.
One crazy pick decides a game in NFL sometimes and you get upset.
That doesn't happen in the NBA.
Which is why I, which is why I think that if he is trying to go to, I think there's a certain
aspect of this where he's not necessarily embracing the, the uniqueness of,
of his sport.
Yeah.
And trying to create,
trying to pull something
from soccer,
trying to pull something
from the NFL.
And you're trying to make
all these other different things,
not seeing that you have a completely
different product and you need to treat it that way.
Yeah.
All right.
On to the main topic of today's video.
We are going to talk about the most misunderstood players
across NBA history.
Ask you guys on community posts and tell us
who you think fits that.
Let's react to it.
Let us know,
we'll let you guys know if we agree or disagree with your claims.
Be souls.
Who was up first?
All right, first.
Jeff, the witness Teague.
No one knows he was this funny when he was in the league.
So they're saying he's always been this funny.
And people never, never understood him at his peak.
He was in the league that thought he was just a guy.
No, what I've really noticed over time since hearing all his stories.
I went back and I saw someone post the highlights of that game in which he had like 15 assists and no dimes.
That's what they said on his podcast.
They're like, you have 15 assists and no dimes.
I saw all the assists.
Yeah.
He definitely played like he didn't give a fuck.
like it was just a job he didn't care
the lack of the nonchalotness
he played with on the court I took for granted
I never noticed that JFT doesn't give a shit
about this regular season game
yeah I mean that's who he's been
through his entire career but when I was like
13 14 years old
he would go on random duels a couple
times versus guys like Kyrie
and Mike Conley and all that I'm like oh this guy's
gonna be a star just never happened
just didn't really care yeah
like I'm sure the ability was like
somewhat there a little bit but he's just
he's just there to do his job and get out
just a normal hardworking dude
and I can't wait to see who the version of it is today
because I feel like a lot of times we assign character flaws
and character things to people and I think usually
it's lazy the whole like he doesn't care about basketball
thing usually is lazy and kind of racist
sometimes it's true and I wonder who we're going to look back on
because he's going to interviews and he's like
I really didn't want to be there
yeah like probably like MPJ or something like
I know for sure number one has to be for me personally
McCaubridge is hilarious bro
I didn't you really care about the game he's fucking
hilarious yeah
he's always there
yeah
and he basically like
know what it is to
he doesn't have
he maybe doesn't care that much
but he has a skill set
that just like
it doesn't matter really
like he doesn't need to have
that crazy motivation if that's true
so there might be players like that
that really don't give a fuck
but they're just good enough
and have a certain type of game
that they don't need to be so intense
that's Jada McDaniels
yeah maybe
yeah
maybe
yeah he might be that
yeah
and like it doesn't matter
they doesn't care that much
sometimes it doesn't
sometimes it doesn't
sometimes you have a guy
who's unmotivated
and it ruins his career
for, I don't want to even
I won't even assign him.
Hey man, get Benedict Math in a podcast right now.
You've been a blow up.
That's the name, 20 years.
He'd be like, man, I just wanted to kill.
Yeah.
Okay, so is Jeff Teague, has he gone his whole life misunderstood?
Because we didn't know he was funny in the moment.
Is that fair to say?
Yes.
Yeah.
I think also to know him probably at that point in time when he was playing,
no one really cared if he was funny or not because he's still just
Jeff Teague.
And now that he's like a rare player.
in the podcast space was actually good at storytelling and all that
and just does the complete opposite of what other players do
or foreign players do.
He's wearing that one.
Have we ever seen a more unexpected media rise in Jeff Teague?
Because I feel like most of the media stars,
you could have said, oh, he'll kill it in the media.
Charles Barkley's shack and their primes,
you could have been like wait till they get on TV.
I bet they're going to be funny.
Nobody said that about Jeff Teague.
Have we ever seen a more surprise media star like this amongst former players?
I'm not going to lie.
Kendrick Perkins actually surprised the fuck out of me.
Okay.
Because I always thought he was like this
Just very silent dude
Then he goes on ESPN and says everything he says
Yeah
Doesn't shut up
Yeah
Didn't know this was you man
As it fair
I don't remember what I thought about Kendry Perkins
Before so I don't know how I would have felt
Probably I don't even think I internalized the existence of Kendry Perkins
2016
He doesn't name to me
Just a big dude
Yeah, just a player
That's what I'm saying
Like never never really thought about his media capabilities
Yeah fair
Yeah that's true
Yeah I don't
I don't think anybody else
has made her eyes.
He is, I think he's 101.
For sure.
Generational definition of it.
Yeah.
All right.
Next up.
Ben Simmons, the guy did choose to become terrible.
Wait, what?
The guy didn't choose what he meant to say.
Okay.
The guy didn't choose to just become terrible.
His body physically gave out on him.
I think this is fair.
And like, obviously anytime a high profile player fails for what his expectation, he's going
to get slandered, that's just the state of the media and probably the state of sports forever.
Mm-hmm.
There is a weird.
weird amount of assignment of mental weakness of Ben Simmons that I know he's had his moments but
there's a strange amount to me of assignment of failure to him I think what has to do with that is
first of foremost okay the whole entire two things I went there's okay your number one overall
pick and the massive expectations people are comparing you to the likes of LeBron and magic
Johnson so they expect some type of crazy ascension it's that and then also you're in Philly
bro this is one of the most toxic fan bases in all of fucking sports and when you
disappoint to that degree while also like only not not owning up to like you're not reaching
expectation necessarily but seeing a couple all-star teams making all defensive teams and like
legitimately being one of the best guards and players in the NBA for a good amount of time
a couple years yeah yeah and I think a big difference between like an avid sports fan and like
a person who's watch more casually is they they assign a lot of lack of improvement just like personal
failure they think improving and winning especially like they think winning a game is about who tried
harder and who wanted it more.
And that's like genuinely the way people view things.
So I think they view this guy who like you said is supposed to be so special and never
improves his jumper.
People will be like like we joke and say get in the gym and it's like a joke for us.
They're serious.
And they're like you don't work on your game at all.
And they think that the inability to hone a skill is like a moral and effort failure.
But maybe he just fucking sucks his shooting and he really wants to be good at him.
But he fucking sucks at shooting.
And he's like, bro, I'm trying.
I'm not good at this.
but they're like you don't want it bad enough
I promise I would love to shoot
and stop hearing you yell at me
but I can't do it
and people only perceive it as you're weak
and you don't want it
yeah I mean
and I guess it's somewhat fair
for some people
you go there if it's done
it's hard
it's hard it's hard it's hard
it's hard the only reason
the only reason why I would say
is because
there was a point where
he wasn't trying to take three's in game.
Like he wasn't attempting it.
And so I think from the public's perspective,
that's something that you can latch on to
and be like, at this point,
we don't really care if you're missing.
Like the first two years of some of people being like,
wait till he gets a jump shot,
we're, the only thing people care about is,
does the form look good and are your fritoes going in?
And then it's like,
they're showing signs that they could do it.
I think that would be the only thing
that somebody could look at and be like,
hey man,
like at least try to take threes.
It's okay.
And the only time he was taking threes for real
was in preseason games.
Yeah.
And so that was something where it was weird.
And then remember,
he did an interview in 25.
He went on on the old man and the three.
And it was like an hour and a half long conversation.
It was very honest and it was very open.
But I also think that from that interview,
I don't remember.
walking away from that
feeling like Ben Simmons
had this like
crazy sense of
accountability
for everything
and not
and again like his body
his body did
break down but I don't
remember feeling like
it was like an equal split
in his mind of oh yeah
there were things I could have did better
and there were things that just happened
you feel like you should have that
I don't really feel like he needs to beat himself up over it
I don't know and I'm not and I'm not saying
And I'm not asked.
I do think like there's a lot of times where we like people want people to go through
humiliation rituals to like to get back to to whatever standing that you put them on in
in your mind.
I get that.
But I also think that it's not like he was completely blame free in every single situation.
I think in individual circumstances like he didn't perform well in the same way every star
doesn't blame free from lack of results.
But I think in the general like macro zoom out sense of like he never improved a certain
things, I don't think he needs to feel bad at not getting good at shooting. Like, you're just not good
at it. And I, no, I do think I'm also open to the idea. Maybe he's not a tremendously hard
worker in terms of like being a maniac like some guys. That could also be true. I'm not saying
he's like, people have been saying about that about them since he was in high school. Yeah,
maybe that's true to agree, right? And maybe that's like, that's like, that's a superhero
work ethic where I'm like, he really tried. I don't really know. But like, I do know that he
wants to be good at shooting. And I don't want, I don't think he needs to be like,
Do we know that he wants to be good at shooting?
Yeah.
It was a human psychology.
I know he doesn't want to get yelled at for sucking at shooting.
So to some degree, I know he tries in the offseason.
To some degree, whether it's good enough, who cares?
But I just think the idea that he needs to take accountability for never getting better at offense is like...
Well, I think that matters, though.
I think the degree to which he works would determine...
Sure, sure.
And we're talking out of something we don't really know.
Yeah, yeah.
But I think that determines a lot of it.
So I think you can say misunderstood also just because especially at this point
He was not always a bum and like 20
2018 2019 Ben Simmons was a very very good player and that was somebody that the sixers
Legitimately thought that they could build their team around even with him and and be not being the most
The the best duo with the most energy. It was just hey these guys are really talented and
we're going to figure it out.
And so I think from that aspect, like, he probably is misunderstood a little bit.
Yeah, I agree.
If I think Ben Simmons at the peak of his powers, if you add him at the peak of his power,
saw a lot of these contending teams.
Like if he was on the Lakers, bro, talking about him a little bit different.
You know, he's so additive.
And I think what's misunderstood about him is, I remember there's this weird thing around,
again, the peak of his powers where the front office was split and there were, they were choosing
between Doyle and B or Ben Simmons and then they're like, oh, we got to pick between one of these two,
who's it going to be? And it's fair for guys like him to feel like entitled, I'm pretty sure his whole
life because he's just been that guy since they won that he is like that guy or whatever.
But Morissau put the blame towards the actual people and also like the city of Philly for being
the way that they are. So I could understand him being misunderstood.
Yeah. And maybe more so what we're describing is a misunderstanding because maybe some of these
things like I said are broadly true and maybe he didn't work the hardest he could or whatever.
who knows, he's definitely taken for granted because of his downsides, I think.
Which I guess is a similar thing to misunderstood.
But even if your criticisms are right, it blinds people to what he did so great, I think.
Yeah, true.
All right, next one.
Next.
Joel Embed, man puts everything on the court just to be called lazy.
Wait, people call him lazy?
Sixers fans.
Yeah, some Philly fans, bro.
These damn Philly fans don't know how to handle shit.
one of the story Philly fans are fucking mean
will he be misunderstood
if you like that
yeah probably also take it for granted to some degree
granted
sure
yeah just had to film like what he did his peak
and we're always mired to the downsides
I don't know if he's misunderstood
because we've seen him at his best
we've seen him average just like damn we're 33
34 or whatever it is
when his MVP
but we also seen him just
completely shit the bed
time in time again in the playoffs.
Healthy or not healthy,
they just never been able to coincide together.
And I don't feel like he's misunderstood personally at all
because it's not complex.
He's just one of the most unlucky dudes in NBA history.
And also he just so happens to not perform well in the playoffs
because it's placed out at times.
I guess the misunderstanding part would be people legitimately think he's soft
because he gets hurt all the time,
getting back to the casual thing where they think if you are hurt
because you don't want it bad enough
and you're not toughing it out as much.
You're not brave enough to play through injury.
that's obviously not him
he's played through an insane amount of injuries
yeah he's so unlucky
I can't it's like when it comes to unlucky
NBA players where it's him
he's guys like him up there
D Rose and whoever else you want to throw out there
he's Clay Thompson too
he's kind of alone actually
like I don't know if anybody at least in our time
like I don't think Clay and D Rose
are anywhere close to as unlucky as him
like they had a bad injury which
you know anybody that tears their kill he's unlucky to some extent
the volume and the goofiness in which Joel and B
got unlucky in it's random it's the most
random shit too that'd be happening in it
I think he's a one-on-one in unluckiness.
Yeah.
I probably you broke your eye.
Your spleen ruptured?
I mean, your appendix ruptured?
Yeah.
Lazy ass.
Fucking bum.
You don't want it bad enough.
But it doesn't help with the way he'd be going out in the playoffs so, too, which is
why I can understand.
For sure.
Some fan would be like, oh, you're lazy.
And that's what he's a misunderstanding.
Two things can be true.
He can have shit the bed before and be unlucky.
Both can be the case.
Yeah.
I'm sure he would have shit the bed before, too, if he was healthy.
But I also think he probably would have got over those humps eventually if he wasn't.
He might have had a Janus Ark
where he shits the bed real bad
and gets over it
because he gets more chances.
I think he was robbed
of his chances.
It's like he's unlucky
but then also too
when it comes to modern stars
he's kind of like
it's like mad lucky too
because he has a smart organization
that capitalizes on
every single opportunity that they have
and there's almost never been bad players
in the building since he became
an all-star player.
You've had pardoned Tyrese maxi
you've obviously Ben Simmons
now you got Jalen Brown
and LeBron on your team
so it's like
it's two sides of this which I understand.
Yeah.
What a mixed bag of Joel and Beats career.
Okay.
Next.
Jason Tatum.
He's hot and a good dad.
But unknown to many, he's also a really good basketball player who average 30 and is essentially
beefy Paul George.
Beefy Paul George.
I actually don't think Tatum is misunderstood at all.
Oh, you think everyone knows he's hot and a good dad and they know he's good at basketball?
I think all of these things have been acknowledged.
Fair, fair.
I think, I think Deuce is with him all the things.
time and everyone's like, wow, he's really present. And like, he's, and like he's, he's, he's always
there. He's in his kid's life heavy. Yeah. I think, I think people see him with LMA and they're like,
hey. And he's hot. He's doing, he's doing the thing. First team all hot. So I think, I think a lot of
the Tatum criticism comes from the fact that I think people recognize that he's hot and a good
dad. And then like, bro, you should be the face of the league. Like, why aren't you? And it's
because of some of like the corny stuff.
And genuinely, it really is, people just don't like him.
Yeah, he's not as interested in the least.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, also too, I mean, like he kind of doesn't help the people not liking him
necessarily because when it all matters the most, he's pretty much showed up.
But, you know, there's a thing where he didn't win finals MVP.
Then going back to 2022 when he went against the Warriors, he didn't necessarily play well either.
I think he saw like up 40% from the field.
And John Brown on Pleado.
Yeah. Everybody gave him a pass for that.
It's like that's not something that I hold against stadium because it was, it's their first finals appearance.
He's 22.
I think everybody understood like, hey, you're going to have a bad series.
It's fine.
We're doing a lot of discourse around he's hot and a good dad.
Yeah.
He's not misunderstood.
We know some potato.
He's very understood.
Yeah.
I understand you goat.
Don't need to worry about me.
Beefy ball jokes.
Okay.
Next one.
Oh my God.
Get ready to read, buddy.
It is Shay and it's not close.
He has one of the best evolutions of a player we have ever seen in the modern era.
The fact that people think he flops.
How do you spell flop wrong?
Where are they from?
Oh, that he flopped.
Every play just don't know ball.
He has two MVPs, a scoring title, broke Wilts record,
been the first seed for three years in a row in the harder conference and a chip,
but it should have been two since his team got injured.
Don't talk about Chet, please.
Top 15 to 12.
by the end of his career.
The Wiltz record, that the, the, the 20 point.
The 20 point.
They just be saying that.
Yeah, it's a random record.
Who cares?
Is he misunderstood?
I think people understand him and he doesn't like him.
I think he's just disliked for reasons that I don't think you can call the, the reasons he's
disliked, I think are silly personally from my own taste and what I value in a star or
whatever.
Like, I don't personally agree.
I don't think it's a misunderstanding.
I think it's a conscious choice to not like him.
Which is different combo.
Is he overhated?
Is he underrated?
All these things can be true.
I don't think he's misunderstood.
I think the haters know the good things
and they just choose to ignore them
because they want to focus on the bad things
and to reach their own.
But I think they understand
the good things about Chey for the most part.
So I think that there's a certain level
with some people still try to deny.
You're right.
He's only a lead score because of the flopping.
But that's just like dumbasses.
That doesn't count to me.
Like, yeah, there's stupid people
when you're so famous.
But like,
That's a very, very prevailing narrative.
But how much of these jokes is, I guess, what I'm getting at?
No, they're not joking.
I know.
I know a lot of people aren't joking, but some people are, and I'm just wondering where that balances.
Remember, we've gone to play basketball multiple times, and there have been, like, you know, tiki-tack foul calls.
And people are like, oh, you're out here being shade.
Like, that is something that people will hold on to and will cling to.
So I don't I think it is maybe a
It's probably more of like a conscious choice
But so it's not like misunderstanding
But the the full appreciation
I think isn't there
And it's probably something closer to like taking for granted
But I mean there are some
There's some times where he does flop
And it is kind of like egregious
And for some people if you hold on to that
And you're like, oh I don't I don't like his get down
I can I can
I can agree with that to not like somebody for that,
but I also think that if you think that that's the only reason why
he is a two-time MVP and doing all this stuff,
then that's wrong.
Yeah.
I just find the crazy that he got it harder than Embeddied and Harden,
like right after we just saw Embed and Hardin.
It's because he made it further.
It's because he accomplished things.
So you get, you know what it is because he got propelled further than those guys did.
Embed fails in the playoffs,
so nobody is up here saying this is one of the best big man peaks of all time.
She got it done.
He wins back-to-back MVP's and wins the title.
You get people saying,
he's on track to have one of the five best guard careers of all time.
So why would I want to listen to this?
They don't have to do that with Embed because no one's telling him crazy things.
Yeah.
Or for their perspective, crazy things, even if they are true.
Yeah.
Like if Embedd had won a title really early on and he had gotten the MVP,
and it's like, hey man, he's on track to be better than the Shaq.
Then it's like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, what, like, what are we doing here?
Like, that just didn't happen.
And it's like, and the Kobe stuff is like standard sports hyperbole reaction in the moment.
that's like not that crazy but to them they're like
I hate this guy I can't believe you'd say this
and at least the vitriol
okay next
Trey Young
people say he was too small or bad
defensively or isn't able to play winning
basketball but in reality he was
all of that and not very good at scoring
why you paint a camera
I'm drinking water
I'm not right
he's misunderstood because people think he's good
He's just not.
Listen, man.
That is not right.
I'll keep in check of all these receipts.
Oh, what are you going to do with them?
I'm going to show you very valid 20 point per game scoring year.
He won't average 20th this year.
What's going to average?
Not 20.
He'll average less.
I think he gets 20.
It doesn't.
That doesn't mean it would be great, but he can get 20.
I don't think so.
I think.
But also, but also, so I think he could if he wanted to,
but I do think that for everything that,
that you have said, well, what is going to make a successful trade season?
I think if he averages 20, that's, they're playing, they're playing back basketball.
You're wrong because, you know, damn well, 80's in him his 40 games.
And in those 40 games, he's an average 26.
And it's not like 80 is going to come out averaging 25 or anything like that.
I think those days of 80.
They still have, they still have all the other young guys that they're trying to propel forward.
But most of the young guys are not scoring on shit.
I think AJ probably, yeah, he's a rookie.
17 is a good scoring season for rookie.
Trey 21, 80, 24
Kishan?
He's not,
he's not gonna be scoring like that
He's like the fifth option
Like 15
You can score 18
You can score 17
Man, Kishan
With all those people there
Again, if people get injury maybe
Yeah
When they're all whole
Kishon's not average 18
That's a lot for a fourth option
Yeah, I don't
If he was
I mean if it's really like
Third option 80
80 not gonna be there
Yeah
But the way the 80s
Yeah, but the way that
The way that you have presented
Trey is like
this is the exact situation that he needs to be in,
which is the second time that we said that.
And because we keep asking less and less of him.
Yeah.
And it's like, yeah, he was scoring it in Atlanta
because that's what they needed him to do.
But now they have all these pieces
and he can really show off his passing.
And like, and he can be this distributor
and he can play less and not be this volume score.
I think if he is averaging,
if he really is scoring like that,
I think that bodes,
I think that bodes not well for the wisdom.
I don't even give a fuck about the scoring for real,
like whether it's 20.
I'm just saying it's just because they said he was not very good.
I think you're going to be right in your two of AJ when AJ's ready to score 20 plus.
Yeah, that I should expect to happen.
But at the end of the day, really what it is for trade.
Okay, yeah.
If you have to try and then you're right.
I'm just like putting like reasonable expectations on a rookie who's playing with two stars
and probably isn't going to get that many touches comparatively.
I think the team's at its best this year of Trey average 21 and AJ 17.
Next year things change.
More importantly and inefficient 21.
That's most important.
If it's like that same fuck ass like 33, 34% from 3 or whatever, then it's like,
We got great.
Well, that's probably the same.
I'm hoping the 2.
2%.
I'm hoping there's not quite as many.
Actually,
hopefully 3,
hopefully 3's not playing
as many crazy
off the dribble 3s.
Yeah, we'll see.
So who average,
average 21 this year?
I say like 20,
standard 20.
Whatever.
Something in that range.
Okay.
I'm just focused on the efficiency.
That's all that matters,
so real.
I'm not focused on anything
because I don't care.
He's going to be by the logo.
Notice he's open.
You don't pull that shit.
Why's no one guarding me?
Why has no one guarded me?
All right.
All right.
Next.
Well,
1962 season.
I don't like when people bring up
his 100 point game
and 50 point for game season
when arguing
he didn't even win MVP in that season.
You know how hilarious?
What the fuck?
You know how funny that is though?
I really thought about that.
I don't think you've ever spoken about this.
You average 50
and the league at the time.
The 1962 voters
who don't know anything about anything.
There's no internet,
no mass communication,
they're just reading what the Washington Post says
about what's performance
and voting accordingly
because they don't get to watch games
outside their local market
except for when you come to town.
They still understood your staff, right?
They still knew that shit wasn't worth shit.
I'm voting Bill or whoever one.
I'm assuming Bill Russell,
maybe with somebody else.
They still, in that moment,
without the age of communication,
knew that 150 per game
wasn't worthy of MVP.
I'm telling you,
holy shit, bro.
He's fraudulent.
He was like not even close
to winning MVP.
It was like a resett.
Bounding 51 first place was to Bill Russell.
Fucking well got nine.
Holy shit.
They knew back then.
Did he even come second?
He came second.
He came second. Yes.
Yeah, but like, who cares?
When there's that big of a gap?
There's been so many awards of the course of history where you can tell voters just
had ignorance to teams that weren't the ones they were covering because they didn't have
national writers back then.
And they still knew that 50 points for game wasn't worth anything in 48 minutes.
Jesus Christ, bro.
That's crazy.
he's he's a fraud
that means we've known fraud since the existence
of man
there's always been fraudulent man there's always in frauds
ever since emperors ruled ancient Rome
there's been fraudulent ass rulers
we've known from the jump when some guy
isn't it
he must have been a disgusting ball hog right then
but he was
he was he started winning when he started passing more
and stop taking all the shots and he knew in the moments
this guy would have been so racist about it
oh 100%
who's he playing with I well don't know whose white teammates were
give Jimmy the ball
Let him shoot.
He's wide open.
This guy would not lead a successful empire.
They'd fall in three months.
They'd never rise.
You're not leading men?
Yeah.
He has to bring men together, make you believe in him to storm a beach, to climb in a horse.
He's seven feet tall and super athletic.
They would gift him the empire.
An army?
Yeah.
Like they would assume that he's going to be the one to lead the empire to prosperity.
and then you get three months in and like, yo, what's going on?
And you walk in, he's just getting fake grapes.
Like that's a problem.
I guess a 62 season is misunderstood by some people that do just take the numbers for what they are
and assume he is just insane and probably don't realize that like that wasn't peak wilt.
That's probably the difference here is.
Wilk at his prime was like one of the best players of all time.
That's not gassed.
I think the fact that that season is like the magnum office to people because the number is so large.
that's probably the part that makes him misunderstood
is that when he was really good
he wasn't scoring more than anybody's ever scored
Yeah, this brother's just telling the truth
That's all
Average 50
All right next up
All right next
Arenas
All the clownish stories overshadow
What a menace he was offensively
So again I disagree
I don't
So
I'm just not cooking today
Yeah probably not
I see they're right
But I don't think that this makes him
misunderstood
What does it make him
just a guy who brought a gun to it
to the arena
but do you feel like he gets overlooked
for how good his peak was
because people are just associating
with antics now
like it's his legacy antics
and personality
rather than the fact that he was like
Damon Bullard light
maybe
and maybe not even that light
like maybe he's peak
like approximated that
and nobody's gonna talk about him in that way
maybe but it was such a short peak
because of the injuries
where I can
there's a lot of players
in NBA history
that have had good like two year runs
and for him
is like a three-year run and you know he's averaging 30 but I also think that um because there
wasn't a lot a lot of playoff success um added on top of that you're it's like in terms of like
the scores in that in that era you have like Kobe who's doing the scoring and winning and then you
have T-MAC then you have arenas where they can they're all averaging 30 but and he can give anybody
50 or 60 on a given night but I think even even in those moments like you
have games where he's hooping in, you know, in not hooping shoes and doing antics.
So I think the antics have always been a part of his personality.
So I don't think that he's misunderstood.
I think this is who he's been.
Okay.
His entire career.
Yeah.
He just had a couple moments in his career, which is impressive, of course.
But he's never made an all-MBA first team, made all-MBA second team once.
Like, I think he just is who he is.
Also, once you bring a gun to the arena, that is, you are stood.
Yeah.
Like that's who you are.
How did you get past like metal detectors and shit?
I don't know.
It's weird.
I don't know.
But that's his legacy and I think that that is, is fair.
Yeah.
All right.
Okay.
Next.
Dremont.
He isn't actually an angry man who loves fighting.
The refs just don't give Steph his fair whistle.
So Drey needs to protect his guy.
What has been?
Dre is a noble servant to Steph Curry.
that fights for his right to be a star.
Great gaming game.
Great gaming game.
Public defender.
This is the exact argument that they would make
if they were trying to get Draymond off.
There's a couple clips online where you can be like,
okay, yeah, like, Steph's not the most like combative guy on the court.
He does talk back now a little bit here and there.
But in general, like he's more so on the quiet side of thing.
So I understand there is truth to this.
Like Draymond does feel like he has to be the enforcer of this team
and stand up for his quarterback and yada, yada, yada.
But there's also so many more moments
where he's just like doing heinous things
for no reason at all.
Yeah, I think we understand that your mind is fine.
Yeah.
I think he's an extremely interesting.
We can move on to the next one.
We know exactly who he is.
Disagree.
This dude's Brian Steele.
Next.
Yao Ming.
People don't talk about him much,
but it's easy to get injured at that height.
And he still did more than people say he did nowadays.
I think that's the second part is true.
Maybe it's just me because I wasn't around back then.
So I personally have a lot of two thousand's blind spots.
and maybe this is just me not not knowing myself but I feel like it is under talked about just
how high his ceiling was I feel like especially today people that weren't there similarly
like I don't think he gets viewed by people as being like an all-NBA player I think people
know he was an all-star but I think if you ask for a random person that's 21 and wasn't quite
around back then I don't think they know he was like behind Shaq second team all-MBAs
and years like that and stuff yeah once you once you are seven four and above
you get on the steer where people start looking at you in this like gimmicky way.
Yes.
And I think especially with the way that the game is played today,
you look at somebody like Zach Edy, who is extremely tall,
and you have all these questions of, oh, can he play in space?
Can he do this? Can you do that?
And you forget, in 2002, the game is played in a completely different way.
Zach Edy would dominate.
And he would be very, very good in 2002.
He was very, very good in Purdue and,
in college basketball and that game is much closer to 2002 NBA basketball.
And so what Yao was able to do back then definitely was great for his era.
And so I think that that is lost.
It does surprise me every time I look at this basketball reference, it's just like,
oh, seven-time all-star.
Yeah, he didn't run.
Steppen to the league immediately was an all-star.
Yeah, he never not missed an all-star team at all, bro, which.
I bet some of those are fan vote related.
Exactly.
Yeah, it has to be.
Has to be.
But still, one, two, three, five-time all-em.
That's not Gimiki fans want the big Asian guy in there.
That's like he's all NBA player.
25 and 10.
I guess legit.
And I do think people probably like don't realize he was quite as good as he is.
Yeah, I think that gets overshadow compared to like Gilbert Arena stuff is different because I think Yao Ming is genuinely under.
He's definitely like misunderstood because of the whole thing outside of him being big and Asian or whatever.
Like his skill set is ridiculous for that size.
and also the type of touch that he has is ridiculous.
You know, of course, like, he's a fascinating, like, just player in general
for how he's just, like, just stands out.
But the skill set is just ridiculous.
Yeah.
Okay.
Next.
Tim Duncan has five rings without any top 30 player of all time as a teammate when they were in this,
when they were in their prime.
No disrespect to Tony Parker or Manuel Genoblee.
Every other all-time grade had 30 teammates, had top 30 teammates.
Tim Duncan is the goal.
It's only because he was boring and didn't crave media attention and didn't play in a big market that people say he isn't.
So I guess he's saying people misunderstand his ability to carry.
Yeah.
People will think that because he had a great coach and a great team the whole time, that he was part of the larger hole and is on like, same thing as Steph Curry. We talk about his rings with KD. It's like the team's so good. It's a good ring. You're the best player. But it's a stacked team. And they're saying that's never been the case for TD that those teams were stacked because TD was there.
I don't know about never
But early parts of his career
I get the sentiment
Yeah
Okay that's
Fair
Yeah I think
I think especially the first
Two rings
In 99 and in 03
Where
Obviously
Like Tony Immanuel aren't there in 99
And you have
You have Dave Robinson
But he's aging
He's coming off the injury from the year prior
That got him
Or two years prior
that got him there.
But those teams weren't as filled out.
So I think even if you look at the fact that he got two rings
before the dynasty really like kicked in for real, for real,
in the way that we know it, I think that is misunderstood a little bit.
Yeah, I think as time goes on, people would definitely misunderstand him more and more
because through all of the like top 10 or top seven players of all time,
they all have like this mystique and lore behind him meanwhile tim duncan just is tim duncan
hands in his pocket type of guy so i can understand that like maybe 15 20 30 years from now
but as now i think everyone just his dominance was not that not that far ago so i think people
understand who he is still okay okay next zion i think he's just a guy who needs love that's real
that's real that could be very real that's real the philosophy has he has he has
Hold on.
Let's psychoanalyze.
Oh, my God.
We've seen online what he has been,
I will be sure want to use here.
We've seen the specific vice in which he has been shown to be involved in online, right?
Sometimes people go about that out of reasons linked to needing love and lowliness.
Like, maybe it's mad understanding.
On a baseline level, every human needs love.
Yeah.
And he's just somebody who has the resources to go all in on finding,
on finding love or finding a feeling of love, right?
So he's doing all of that.
Maybe we can't fault him for that, right?
I feel, listen, there's definitely a lot of people who,
if they were in the same position as I am,
doing the same exact same thing.
Probably even worse.
I do, I do understand that way.
I don't know if you can get worse.
I don't know, man.
We treat him like he was smoking crack on the sidewalk.
You can do worse.
He can do way worse.
He's not doing anything wrong.
Yeah.
He just has a type.
And he just has a need.
Nobody ever said wrong.
He's wild.
He's not wrong.
We shoot him like he did felony.
Yeah.
He didn't do a damn thing.
He's wrong.
Yeah.
His love really, like, you know, bro, there's so many other things that star players have done that's like legitimately wrong.
Like KD and other guys are not going to mention.
And they're just like, yo.
He is KD lately.
He does.
He's cool, but, no, he's not that cool.
but but like it's it's fine
it's a very it's honestly a very big
culture shock though because like
he was at Duke
and you go from Duke to North
to New Orleans and it's like
hey man what is around me right now
and the life of an elite college basketball player
that could be I'm sure that could be an isolating
experience man
well I don't think he was isolated
because of this because of this
no no
Zion's downfall
male loneliness epidemic
yes
Imagine if he just had the proper space to be outside.
Imagine if Zion had a girlfriend that Duke doesn't love of his life and he stayed with her for the last five years.
Imagine if he happened to find love at the right time.
His career would be so much different.
The way he's talked about would be so much different.
He just needs the space to be unapologetically himself.
That's what I think it is.
He probably doesn't want it.
I'm sure he's had plenty of opportunities to chill.
I don't know.
He never's going to go out.
Yeah, he does.
definitely you know what we can do a different combo here but I think we always assume that everybody like an NBA player your life is so easy in that way
you're still a person you still have your flaws I can understand him having some red flags and make it hard to have a girlfriend
you also think like because remember when he was in college he had um some like uh like people have recorded
the snap chat yeah the snap chat stuff hey beautiful
I'm gonna be like that.
What if that turned him into a demon?
You know, you're right.
What if that's his original story?
Yeah, you're right.
You're right.
He's like, man, I'm at Duke.
Can't trust him.
I got these people around me.
No, man, I'm moving the way that I want to move.
I'm never having this happen to me again.
And in pursuit of distancing himself from that,
he puts himself right back into the same cycle,
just in a different demographic.
Zahn, we're here for you, man.
He just needs love
building, man.
We're gonna get you on Love Island, I promise.
Oh, whoa.
Slow to help, please.
Zion on Love Island.
Damn.
We need that.
He actually, I think he would feel.
He would be hilarious.
It would be crazy if he was on too hot to handle.
I don't want to.
I'm not watching that bullshit.
I'm never watching.
I'm just going off a straight premise.
It would be hilarious.
Yeah.
He'd fail.
He's nice.
Zion on Love Island.
It'll be like Corbyn.
No, he would be able to eat.
The sacrifices he made to win really undersold how good of a player he was.
He truly had a Paul Pierce floor for the James Harden ceiling as a player.
But became a super six man to help the Spurs win.
This guy's misunderstanding the fuck out of Manu right now.
I struggle with Manu a lot because I understand your sentiment and I think the idea of him sacrificing to win in terms of individual accolades, production, and recognition as a star is clearly true to some regard.
Right.
Like he clearly could have gone to his own team and made all-star appearances.
But when you say shit, like he had a James Harden's ceiling.
And people,
and people like rank him as like third-bed shooting guard of all time and stuff because of that ability.
I wonder where the line is.
Are we doing too much with that?
Because it's so theoretical that you can really say anything.
Yeah.
That I wonder what he actually would have been on his own team.
Because something tells me it's probably not James Hardin.
Maybe it is.
I don't know.
I have no clue how to talk about what he could have been.
The Paul Pierce floor is crazy.
I actually, I don't think it is.
Only because the Celtics weren't like going crazy before the big three got there
Yeah, it's not like Paul Pierce was out here doing anything by himself
You know like he's a good player yeah and him and Antoine like they were making the the playoffs
They won a couple series which ultimately for a majority of NBA players
Especially the all-stars and stuff that that's what your lot in life is probably
Paul Pierce is a D-Mish that got to play with Kevin Garnett
You think he can lead them to the conference finals I know it was a week conference but I I think so I think
I think if Manu had his own team, he could lead a team to the competition.
Yeah, Trayong did that.
Yeah, you can do that.
Like, it's not that hard until to get into that one time.
Ah.
I think he could be that.
Floor, I see what you're saying.
Like, there's a world he's worse than Paul Pierce, so I think floor is a little, little harsh.
But I do think he could be Paul Pierce.
Like, that's realistic to me in terms of solo option, Paul Pierce.
Man, they take down team USA.
He can get to the conference finals.
Yeah, I do think that's the case.
That's fair.
And maybe this also is a matter of not rating James Harding because the playoff failures like that.
But I think Cadver's 35.
one of the best offensive hubs of all time.
We don't have to worry about that.
Yeah, we don't have to worry about it.
I think the Paul Pierce floor is the most interesting thing here.
Okay.
And I think that that's not crazy.
Me too.
So I think it's...
Maybe I did underrate Paul Pierce, though.
How many Hallstead appearances that Paul Pierce have?
I'm trying to pull up.
That's a very, very good player.
But in terms of the way that everything gets pushed forward with Paul Pierce
happens 08 and beyond the fact that he gets finals MVP in 08
but he never made first team all NBA
okay I can see that like that
that's the one thing the from 08 to 2012
that does a lot for Paul Pierce's legacy
and the fact that
that he continuously
says like oh yeah it was me and Brian
yeah before KG
before KG Paul versus a four-time all-star
who made third team all-MBA in 02 and 03
yeah that's legit Donovan Mitchell
well actually like worse accolade wise
but paying respect I do think he's probably
just as good like that's not a crazy high bar for Manu
he can do that
Manu made I think Mono made like what
one or two all NBA teams in this career as well
so a D Mitch is going to age gracefully as fuck
in history when we look back at his basketball reference
oh yeah
this fact this one year
helps so much the fact that he got to a conference finals
that takes him out of a different conversation
you know his legacy is going to age so gracefully
every time we have combos like this
I'm like I really wonder by these old players
that have these accolades we were like look at them
but in the moment we're not like that's the guy
yeah because before you're right
because before this year he's never been past the second
round I don't think so yeah
and he made first he'll only be it right
one year yes I think it was the one that's one of 60
yeah 20 23 or 4 something like that yeah
one of those years
he man his his vessel reference page is going to be stacked
yeah good for him yeah I do agree
with the sentiment minus the ceiling part
all then next
Chris Weber
For his time
He was one of the best
Offensive
In passing Big Men in the league
When the Kings were good
In the 2000s
They ran the offense through him
If he didn't deal with injuries
Greatest King of all time
Fair
Fair
You know what this is too
I think a lot of players
Like this
Which is similar to the combo
We had last week
On the greatest peak series
About Kevin Garnett
We really really
rate the players
From the past
That would translate
To today's game really well
And maybe it makes us
exaggerate some things
Maybe it makes us
Just appreciate some things
more now that we know certain things about basketball that
we're probably still valuable in 2002
we just didn't quite realize it. Chris Weber
would be amazing in today's game.
He would be.
I should go with athleticism.
Yeah, that's a different word.
That's a demon.
Shengu could block shots and had a little more play finishing
under the room because he can jump higher.
Player, player.
Yeah.
Yeah, I think for
for Weber, his
whole basketball story is
one of the more interesting ones
just because of how much
at least like in the NBA he moved around
and how different the peaks are
and like every single stop that he was at
is a completely different story.
Yeah.
And that King's era for them to be
one of the ones that pushed the Lakers to the max,
I think that because they lost,
there is a part of it where he gets overlooked.
And you know how like in the NBA,
everybody copies everybody in professional sports.
And so if the Kings win that series, then we probably come out of that in, you know, 01 or 02 thinking we all need, thinking like we all need to find 610 bigs who can pass.
And that's just not the not the case.
And so we have to wait another 10, 15 years before we actually start to think about that archetype being a one that we could like build a foundation with.
Someone just tag me in a tweet.
I said they lobotomized Justin Herbert.
Someone said
Harbaugh and Greg Roman lobotomized him
With the dink and dunk
Turning Point USA offense
So he's just permanently
Zach Wilson now
Yeah, Haskol's gonna be sending him
What I hate my life
All right next up
John Moran
He may have a rough exterior
But I know underneath he's a sweet guy
He just need someone to show him
How to be a sweet guy
I can fix him
You gotta show a job
How to be loved
So again
male loneliness.
I'm sensing a theme today.
A lot of channeling your inner love for these players.
Okay.
Is he misunderstood?
I don't think so.
No.
Maybe that's just me misunderstanding him.
Maybe I'm the perpetrator.
Eh.
No, man.
I don't know if he's misunderstood.
I think I understand him just fine, but maybe I'm the one in the wrong.
He does look like a rehabilitated guy in Portland.
I think he'll be fine moving forward.
I also, see, that's the thing.
You just said rehabilitated, he'll be fine.
I don't think anything wrong with him is, like, personality issued.
People, like, the gun thing happened.
It happened.
He took suspension.
It's fine.
Move on.
People act like he's this, like, lost, like, he's a loose cannon that can't be relied upon
its personality.
He's a troublemaker.
I think he just hasn't been playing basketball good for a long time.
I just think that things that did get him in trouble, he's not going to do it anymore.
And I think he's truly learned his lesson.
I agree.
I don't even care about that shit.
I don't either.
But people do.
And I even just on you.
Like, people do.
and they treat him like he's a problem.
Like he's just now getting out of rehab.
Yeah, like he's punching teammates.
Like he's fucking every,
I mean,
he was punching kids in Foot Locker malls or whatever,
which is true.
I don't.
I will not forget that.
Okay, fair.
Maybe, maybe, maybe.
Yeah.
We know who he is.
It's cool.
I think his downfall is basketball related
more than anything.
And we treat the personalities
that have to be a little
too much slice the pie, I think.
Yeah.
Not we, other people.
I think people treat him in a very strange way.
You ever put up to a foot locker to fight some of him?
to find somebody seven years younger than you.
It's a slapbox right now.
Oh, what a time.
Next up.
Westbrook.
It was never about stat padding.
It was about effort.
Fair?
It does take effort to stat pad.
I think he's more.
I think he's more.
You're not right.
And we'll leave it at that.
That's my gut, though, man.
Joel and Beatt.
The casual consensus of him seems to be that he's soft, foul baiting in sits-out games,
not acknowledging that the man has destroyed every joint in his legs for a chance to play
and has done so at an elite level for years now when healthy.
Didn't mean to include two of them, but salute.
Everyone thinks he's misunderstood.
He's really misunderstood.
He's super fast.
He's the most misunderstood.
He gets him on here twice.
And that's the last one.
Oh, one more.
Oh, one more.
Donovan Smooth.
had a whole career in the 90s and 2000s
winning chips with the Rockets,
Lakers,
and Spurs.
They retired for 10 years,
then started another career,
and now he plays all 82 games every year
and just won another chip
while hosting these podcasts.
People don't understand the kind of dedication,
hard work,
and Mamba mentality this takes.
Damn,
seven chips is crazy, bro.
It really is a bit out of here.
It doesn't seem.
How does it feel to carry that much weight of excellence?
I mean, it's a standard every day.
You think you can actually get off with like being Robert Horley's son?
Like you think you pull that off?
I think you could.
Get off.
That's crazy.
Yeah.
You can get away with that.
He paused.
You think you can get off.
Come on now.
You're doing too much.
Y'all do it too much.
To answer your question, yes.
You could definitely pass the relative Robert ory.
Like, legitimately could pass the relative.
To what he did it?
Just stand right next to him,
my dad.
Yeah, like he legitimately can't.
He looks like Robborey makes him somebody else.
So if you told me Robert Dory has a wife that looks different,
and that's the outcome, he legitimately can pass that.
I don't think I could.
We gotta get you in the same room.
We get you in the same room with him,
Mikhail, Norm Powell, all of them.
You know, you know what?
Honestly.
What would you say to that?
I don't know.
I don't know.
You know what they say, I'm your son.
one of my biggest fears
at this point
insane backward
is like
what if we get in the room
one of these guys
then like
yo everybody says that he looks like you
and they're like
he's ugly as hell
don't you ever say that
I think McKeill would say that
I think McKele Bridges
to do you like if we
if that if that happened
and especially if it was on camera
I don't think I could continue with it
Like that might be my retirement
I think McHale Bridges would do you like that
And I think it would be on you to be like
Let's go band for band
Look for look right now
I think how you respond
Would say volumes about you
And I don't think you'd respond well
No, the stadium polls would be up
It would be to the max
I don't think you'd be able to junk back
I think you'd just be like
Oh man
Especially with McKell
Because it's like
You just helped my team win the championship
In my mind we're like this
Why would you say that?
That's a that
That's a big fear of life.
That would kill me.
Let's see your best fit right now.
Sprout my fan, relax.
Show me 10, back.
Damn.
All right, that's the end of that.
Next thing we're going to do today.
We are going to do a draft on a Monday.
Rare.
We are going to do a draft where all four of us receive a hero to build around.
We're going to do our first spin.
All of us will get a star player.
A hero?
A hero.
Batman?
Maybe.
If you play your cards right.
We're gonna get a random star that pops up at the top.
That'll be a hero.
You can put them in any position you want,
point guard through center,
and then we'll go as normal,
we'll draft based on a team that gets pulled up
until we all have a starting five built around our player.
Okay.
So you might get really unlucky and then still come back and win.
We'll see.
Draft order is me, Mo, Donovan, B, souls.
Okay.
All right, hit that hero spin.
Where are we going?
Okay, come on.
Ooh.
Let's go!
Damn, I get Kevin Garnett,
Mo Scotty Barnes, Donovan John Morantz, and B.Sowell's Victor Wivorbeni.
I got a vigilantee.
First shot of rehab, what you're ready to do, man?
He has his own tools.
He's ready to solve the problem himself.
I hate this.
All right.
So first spin for the team.
He got KG.
Got KG and the first pick.
Damn, that's cracked.
The road.
First team spin, where are we going?
I mean, not the first pick better.
There's all these rounds, but you know how it goes.
Oh, like Orlando Magic.
We're just doing this year.
Okay, so I'm putting KG at, let's start KG at center.
I'll pick Franz Wagner at small Ford.
I don't need Palo and KG hoops.
I don't need two mid-range merchants.
Okay.
I'll go Franz and try to surround them as spacing.
Smooth.
Hey, you want Palo and Scott?
Fuck, no.
I couldn't think of an uglier duo, bro.
Hi, they just cannot hoop together at all.
No, not ugly ones.
What's crazy?
What's crazy?
Holy shit.
Style-wise.
So much vich, y'all.
Follow kids, shoot.
Scotty's trying to grow in that area.
They're just not conducive together.
They're not a good duo at all.
I thought the same thing.
He thought they were sexy.
Where are you going to pair, Scotty?
Sexy give me, doesn't mean.
Damn it.
Fuck.
Nobody wants, Palo.
You've whispered under your breath of the thought of Palo.
You're putting Scotty at the fore?
Yeah
put him at the four
Donovan
Pallo's like yo twin
Pellivan
Pallin Jaws not too bad
Put Jai at the point guard position
Put Jalen
Suggs at my
Yeah
You're not gonna be shooting shit
You're treating him like he has a disease
I figured
If I'm gonna have two non-shooters
I want to do
Let me get somebody
that can play defense
and be a non-shooter.
Jalen Sugs and Wembe would have been nice.
Point of attack defense.
He was never getting that.
Yo, if there's anyone who's polo proof, it's Wembe.
Like there's,
Wembe's just not going to be affected.
You actually are kind of blessed.
We did say, we did, remember we were talking with,
with Lowe about what it would take for
for Palo to, like, go to a new slot?
He has to play Wembe.
Wembe can make everybody better.
Having the bedroom protector and stretch big.
Yeah.
That's actually amazing for you.
So it definitely elevates.
It's a different type of Paulo.
Yeah, go make my case for me.
Salute.
Unless you want Anthony Black.
Nah, he'll go with Palo.
You can't go double big.
He got the franchise player last pick
and now he gets first week again.
You might have just gotten blessed.
Pallot at the 3?
And he has the best player.
He could have went Window Carter.
Come on now.
Winder Carter at the 5, won't be at the 4?
All right.
Two number two.
Hell no.
Hey, all right.
Beasles got blessed.
Oh, Brooklyn Nets.
Yo, this is bleak.
I get the fourth best net.
I'm going to die.
Ooh.
It's on me?
Yeah.
Oh, take Randall.
Give me MPJ.
And you get space.
At the two.
Damn, big ass.
This is a humongousy.
Hey.
Normally in the spot, I would take Claxton.
He's no longer here.
He's not.
Randall.
I was doomed.
I'll take Randall.
Thank God you did.
Man, sucks Randall.
Oh, you got all NBA stinky team right now, man.
All NBA fucking muscle team.
Yeah.
You're throwing shoulder.
Holders your end.
Third pig is the worst pick to be.
You're a second.
Oh, yeah.
Damn, man.
Where are you going, Mo?
It's fourth really, I think fourth is, bro.
Yeah, not really is.
He's dropped off after this, I guess.
Well, when you have one be as your hero.
True.
True.
Okay.
Where am I going, man?
Is Igor Demons there?
I'm not picking a rookie.
I'm picking that rookie.
I have to.
Give me that rookie.
He's a shooter.
I'm taking the show.
at that rookie. Yeah, he's a
we haven't seen anything yet though.
What else you want me to do? Greg Powell?
Hell yeah. Hell no, actually. I'm taking the shooter.
Yeah, give me Angor Demmon, man. Put him at my one.
Jolman at the one? Yeah.
Pull him number one. It doesn't matter. Doesn't Baines there. Scotty's there.
Spitting ballhandering abilities. Did it have it? Am I forgetting veterans
they have? Because they trade Clackton. Who's a new center? Oh, I got Damon
on Sharp. Uh, my, my, my space him would suck if I'd put
Dayron Sharp.
But he's a lot better than a rookie.
I guess I'm putting KG at the 4 and taking Dayron Sharp at the center.
I need to have amazing shooters.
I should have taken Bain.
Damn.
I expected to get spacers, but what am I going to do?
There's no more spaces on this team.
You better get the best shooter alive.
Did I forget somebody?
Who's on their bench?
I actually have no idea.
Let me see.
I was trying to think about the Nets roster right now.
I'm like, yo, who do they truly have?
That's like, you know, Beasles is killing us.
I need Luca.
Spin this team.
I need a superstar guard.
Please.
Oh, Portland Trailblazers.
Just a team I need.
I'm not taking Denny.
Five guards.
Yeah, take Denny.
I can't give you Denny.
That'll bring your team together.
I mean, Denny can shoot a little bit.
Denny's a space for fun.
I just don't want Franz.
But I'm not giving you Denny.
I'm damn sure not giving you Denny.
You could.
Franz at the two.
I also don't want to give you
True Holiday
And what does Dame have left in the tank?
I need a spacer
Give me Damian Lulner
That's the best option honestly
Give you Damon and Lillard
I need spacing bad
Damn
Okay
I don't want to Dame
Damn it
Yeah I can go literally
Any direction
Like I can pick Denny
Obviously I can put clinging
Which might be the smartest choice here
Because he's the best defensive big
Outside of Wemby obviously here
And KG's there obviously
you know what I mean?
Or I could pick Drew Holiday
and like solidify like my wings and shit.
But that's a real risk though
because I couldn't spin back
and not get a good big at all.
Yeah.
Oh man.
Who does he want more?
I'm trying to cook him.
You probably want,
you can't take Denny.
Probably going Drew Holiday, honestly.
I'm going to take Drew Holiday.
I think you probably wants Denny.
Do you want Denny?
He's got no wings.
He has no shooters.
Denny's a good shooter.
I'm gonna get enough.
Yeah.
Good enough.
All right, Mo, he's taken?
I mean, Don, are you taking Drew?
You don't want to Drew.
Yeah.
You fool.
Who'd you want?
Give me clinging.
Okay.
Dan, he is Denny?
Guess I'm getting Denny.
Why does he get on the best players?
Sorry,
you guys keep passing up on the stars for him.
I was trying to box him.
We gave him the franchise player.
He had no guards.
But we gave him the franchise player
with the last pick twice.
But he has no guards.
Oh, no pass.
yet zero passing we'll see yeah he's not even that isn't very good then he's a good enough faster
no hell not put a bunch of mid around break up the loves webb's gonna be pissed okay who's gonna pass
mp.j watch last spin you get ah beasles gets the best player he's gonna win we'll see this
pacers give me hally oh my god damn what they go say now you got one like the three best passes
in the league fuck are you for a busy
With the three.
I can't give him Ziacob.
Yeah, you can.
No, because then you go,
you go to put Scotty at the five.
I do whatever I want.
Don't worry about me, man.
He gets Zubach.
Either way, he gets fucking blessed.
But you can't give Ziacom.
Seagum and Barnes is filthy.
Who does he want, man?
He's a real, he's a real off right here.
I need a role play.
I don't care who I get.
I can't take any of these bigs.
You're sure.
You can take knee Smith or words.
Or Nemhard.
I don't care which one.
I don't know, man.
This team sucks.
You need a shooter.
Take Nesmith.
I think Jaka could play the three.
So Yaka man, Randall, dude, that's kind of disastrous.
You don't care about Randolph.
He's doing mad spin moves.
Yeah.
Randall's not going to be in the corner of me.
Hey, put Rando at the three.
I'll take it Zubach.
You're all.
You're all.
For no reason.
He just nuked your team for no reason, bro.
When I knew that Lisa was like
Progressive
I was doing
Progressive.
I can't let you have
Why would you do that?
You're just not a good friend.
You got to play somebody at least out of position.
I'm not gifting you a second.
So she said fuck my team then.
You realize that?
I mean you love Siafam with your guy.
Put him next to Scotty again.
Brother,
I got started with John Moran.
My team was never done.
So you're best.
The Syracob and Barnes is actually kind of filthy.
You're not getting a natural big.
I guess go ahead and give me Siakum, man.
God damn.
And give me Aaron Niezman at my shooting guard.
Thank God I got two shooters.
Oh, man.
Thank God that worked out.
Yeah, you're going to be serious.
See, I really wanted to be a bad guy and take Neesith, but I was like,
ah, Nymar Zuh, you're in a good position.
Yeah, I didn't carry the way.
I didn't give a damn.
I might have taken Siakum if you wanted to be a bitch about it.
I would have just did it.
I would have been so nasty.
dealt with it.
Seacob, Franz, K.C.
and De Ron Sharpe.
We'll make it work.
We're filthy.
Who's staying in front of us?
Good players are in the building.
Exactly.
We'll work it out in the background.
So I have Damian Lillard, Aaron Neesmith,
Franz Wagner, Kevin Garnett, and Dayron Sharp.
Oh, man, I got Joman.
Fuck, man.
I got Desmond Bain, Drew Holiday,
Scotty Barnes,
and Pascal Seacom.
Damn.
Damn.
John Morant, Suggs, Julius Randall,
Zubach and Klingin.
You have zero good shooters.
Legitimally zero.
I know.
Not a single one.
Jenna Sugg shot 40% three years ago.
Three years ago.
I'm having run on screens.
Oh my God.
Like Ray Allen.
You need a hard time to watch those games.
God damn.
Get ready to speak.
Rip Hamilton, buddy.
And then I got
Halie, MPJ,
Denny, Palo, and Wembe
Just the best thing by far
Yeah, but I guess me do have a series
But yeah, your two's better
My defense is kind of sucks
I was out of Wemby
But I got Wemby
Actually, yeah
You have no good defenders outside of Wemby
Your defense sucks
Outside of Wemby
You got a lot of size
You have a lot of size
Yeah, but it's bad size
Palo and MPJ aren't moving like that
Hallie's like whatever defender
Denny's gonna put his head
down and run into palo.
He said, but boom.
Two players can't work.
Now it's three on five, you're right.
Actually, yeah, I think your team would disappoint, based on the town on paper.
Let's draw the ball out.
I think my team will flow.
Your team does have the best flow.
Yeah, that actually makes sense and play real basketball.
That could be a real team.
See, Soakum just nuked me, Brian.
No, Scottie Barnes plays center.
It's all right.
Who's your three again?
That's Drew Holiday.
Oh, Drew Holiday.
Johnman, for a real.
Sure.
It doesn't matter.
They all play the same position.
Yeah, but Johnman's like six, eight.
You can put Joe men to three.
Drew guards the points.
I really wish Drew slid to me.
I bet you do.
Yeah.
I couldn't let him slide.
I go to have Drew and Siakum and no questions defensively.
Yeah, you could have worked out for you really good.
Yeah.
You're still going to win, though.
You have Hallie and one beer straight.
It's perfect players matched.
What if Dame looks like, Dame?
No.
Get Dame and K.
That's that.
I got Prime KG too
Wendy's so baby
All right
We'll see
Hey Dayron Sharp
What do you got for me
Ball's in your court
bud
I thought
I bought a lot of stock name
in the rankings episode
So
You did I remember that
I'll take it
Where'd you rank him
Did you say it was like
Back half obviously
Middle of the pack
I think around like 16 or something like that
Oh that shit okay
No I don't remember actually
Yeah
I have no fucking clue
Higher than you guys
I'll say that
For sure I don't know if you know
I ranked him the highest
By a large margin
Next thing we're gonna do today
B. Souls is going to show us an NBA rule.
We have to decide if we keep it, change it, or cut it.
So all the rules that define the NBA as of today,
the things that have shaped the last decade,
we can pick what we would change
or will we get rid of altogether.
Okay. Okay.
First rule, the 65 game rule.
My instinct is the cut.
I think we should let the voters decide on their own.
But I can be swayed to say change
and keep it in some regard,
but I'm damn sure I'm not keeping it how it is now.
Yeah, it can't stay as is
If I was to change it, I would drop it
Instead of like 65
Maybe like somewhere in closer
To the middle of the pack, maybe like 52 or something like that
You know?
I would say that's fair, maybe 55
And make it only apply to first team all NBA
But if you play below that, you still make third team all NBA
That would be fair to me.
Yeah
Okay
Yeah, I'd change it.
I think 65 is a bit much
I would say 60
Like, let's say 58 to 60.
I just know, I don't want it to apply
everything. It's the best player in the world
plays 58 games. I'm putting him 13
all-in-b-a. And I feel like that should be allowed.
I'll say you can't win MVP.
You can't be first team. You can't win D-P-O-I. That's fine to me.
But you can't make 13-L-N-VA for Nicole Yoki. She'll play 59 games.
It's weird. What are we doing?
I'm saying 58 games.
All right. Change.
Yeah. Okay. Next.
One and done eligibility.
I'm getting out the... I'm getting out the pain. I'm just cut this rule.
Yeah. Just pretty.
much, I'm not that's a useless, like I understand it, given a player straight from high school
one year to really, like, develop his body and all that. But if you believe that this 17, 18 year olds
really like that, which is rare, not every single 17, 18 year olds going to get drafted into
the league, you know, take them. Like, you're just stopping them from a year of getting a life-changing
money. And I think, of course, are different now with the NIL and college and shit like that,
but still, like, NBA money in NBA rookie money doesn't compare to NIL at all.
So I'll cut it.
It's crazy.
You can be 18 and go to the fucking military and do all this.
But you can't play for the Pacers.
You can't play for like the Orlando Magic.
It's so weird.
Like it's weird, bro.
You play for the magic, please.
I do feel like it's unnecessary to some regard.
I think it should still be expected most players do one year for all the reasons that
it's beneficial to most players.
But yeah, I think anomaly should be allowed to do it.
Maybe we can say change and it is an appeal process.
Maybe you have to do something to prove that you're allowed to come in.
I don't know how they fucking.
decide that. They look at you and like,
Vice says big enough, you can survive.
Brolic checked, good.
Whatever it is, I do think some anomaly should be allowed to go straight out of the league.
There's like a BMI minimum.
Yeah.
You take a fucking IQ test.
He's developed enough.
Yeah.
Like, and if that was the case, still, like, there would be maybe like one or two players,
even over the last, like, five years who would be, like, league ready.
Like, one B would be one of those guys.
I think Cooper Flagg could have played in the league as well.
And out of the number one overall picks, that might be, like, honestly, it for
real or last few years.
I wonder if you have to keep this rule to, you kind of have to like protect owners
and GMs from like going too crazy.
How now we don't.
No, let's be done.
I'm saying like if you're in the NBA, that's why you would do it because it's like
you see somebody foaming at them out to get this number one pick when they're in sixth
grade and stuff like that.
And it's like we have to put in these rules that you guys don't go crazy.
So that's why I think from the league's perspective, that's where it makes the most sense.
but I'm with you.
I would...
There's a lot of high school stars
that are phenoms that don't work out.
They would have taken some of these guys.
They'd have taken Cam Reddish number one.
Yes.
Yeah.
And so I think...
And I'm okay with that.
That's on you, buddy.
That's on you, GM.
I agree.
But also, if you were operating in the world where the...
And maybe if it's different now
because of the new lottery rules,
then it's different.
But when you're operating where the worst teams
get the best picks
and we're trying to replenish stuff,
if the bad teams are constantly
at the bottom because they're reaching and they're
doing wild stuff because you know
you don't have that extra year of data
I can see Adam Silver being like it's actually
very beneficial for the
owners here yeah but I would
I would cut it yeah
okay next
salary gap
let's cut it let's get crazy
let's get crazy let's
let's get crazy
let's pay everybody what they're worth
Janus is worth 200 million
give him 200 million
mad
some people might say
all the best players to go to one team, probably.
Yeah, and that ruins all the middle of the pack
and, like, lower tier players too.
They ain't get shit.
But also like, so?
Also, not really.
Not really, though, because owners have only
a certain amount of money they're going to spend on this team.
You can't, you like, this happens in soccer.
You can't spend unlimited money forever.
Maybe Steve bomber can, I guess.
But most teams can't spend unlimited money forever.
Every owner is an owner because they have enough money by a team.
They're going to give somebody that $50 million.
Like, it's going to net out to, like, around the same.
let's do it let's cut it
I don't know if you should cut it
I think it should be altered
I think if you're one of the best players
I figure who I heard it from either
Steph or Draman or something like that
but they should have ownership with a team too
if you're like that
or sure you should have like certain clauses
in your contract
that presents certain issues
that I don't think they should own the team
but I do think I'll say change
there should be some way that
for a certain type of players
like Supermax players
they can count to 35% of the cap
but I can pay them whatever they want
and it doesn't count towards the cap
I should be able to exceed that
for the best players in the league
yeah something like
or even just
Just just drop it where you can pay him 35, but only counts the 25, you know.
If you want to keep the salary cap and you can only spend a certain amount.
You know, Steve Baum, really so pissed with this happened, bro.
Fuck, man.
He was a Joe Blazers?
He's ahead of the curve.
They call it the bomber rule.
You can give it extra 10% that doesn't count towards a cap.
Bam, man.
Legit, the bomber rule.
That'd be hilarious.
I actually hope that happens.
Just to spite him.
It should.
Let's do it.
And still leave all the penalties on the game.
Oh, yeah.
Okay, next.
12 minute quarters.
Are you saying you are more or less?
Up to the eye of the behold?
Okay, 15 minute quarter games.
Let's get crazy.
Jesus Christ.
I think it's fine.
I never heard anyone have a gripe with the quarters.
Let's play shorter games.
Young attention span.
People can't sit down for a whole basketball game.
Five minute quarters.
Nine minute quarters.
It's on two-k-shed.
You got to go, you got to go ten.
I do think that.
You got to go ten.
Yeah, because the,
In international competition and every other league in the world, in the WMBA, you played 10 minute quarters.
So there should be a standard amount of time that a basketball game is.
And 10 minutes probably is the number.
They were worried about the wrong type of time.
Start the fucking games on time, really.
That's the main thing, bro.
Even the NFL is kind of lacking right now, bro.
They're running a little bit late.
I used to enjoy like, oh, shit.
Like, I can't really cut my time.
I have to be really pristine.
and really watch the game at 12 p.m.
We're suited and booted.
The NBA, they're going to be 17 minutes late and no one cares.
No, they, we care.
The NBA does not care.
Exactly.
Okay.
Next.
Shot clock being 24 seconds.
I agree with this.
However, I want to change one of the shot clock rules.
Because it used to be that if you get an offensive rebound,
the shot clock resets back to 24.
And then they changed it to the shot clock.
reverts down to 14 seconds.
I want to change it back.
I think if you get an offensive rebound,
you should have a full 24 seconds again.
It's kind of cool, though, like,
well, cool, and since this is more like
pandemonium happening and guys are like more frantic
and they just make OD quick decisions
when they notice, like, oh shit, shot clock,
and he reset the 24.
So I kind of like it, as is now.
I think we should keep it.
No, I think we should go back.
Every offensive rebound.
If you didn't finish the possession, you didn't finish it.
And so we get a new one.
That's 24 seconds.
That's fair.
Okay.
Next.
We have traveling slash gather rules.
Traveling slash gather rules.
Bro, those rules are so finicky already as is.
I really don't know what you could change or try to like emphasize on.
I think.
It's so loose.
Like, and they did it a couple years ago when they were picking on Jordan Pool and calling
carrying and stuff like that.
I do think we may have gotten a little bit too far.
We maybe have gone a little bit too far into the IG trainer world
where you can hold the ball upside down.
You can manipulate the ball, manipulate, gather steps.
I'm going to get on my Bob Coozy.
Listen, let me see y'all play 60s basketball.
Let me see strict crossovers and see what's fundamental.
Yeah.
Let's make T.J. McConnell, a star.
Hell no, man.
You're ruining the swag of the game.
Fuck that.
manipulate these guys
You don't want the fundamentals?
Fuck no
You need the fundamentals of course
We get a reward sneaky athletic guys
Do you really?
They've been rewarded all their lives
Fair
Keep
Alright next
Defense of three seconds
Oh we're move
We're move
I think we're talking about
Scoring inflation being too crazy
We want to have real defense back
Some of that's ever been fixed
You allow defensive three seconds
That immediately fixes it
That immediately makes it hard
to do the math game,
give the spacing,
and make the room wide open.
You wouldn't take it away completely, right?
You would, like, make it seven seconds
or something like that?
Completely.
Really?
Would you go bare 24 seconds in a row?
Yeah, defense is fully,
eh, yo.
We're running zone.
You're ruining the league.
No one scores at the rim.
You want it?
Go dunk on me.
Oh, my gosh.
Go earn it at the line, idiot.
I don't know.
Make it eight seconds or whatever.
I don't know.
Something higher,
but I do think that's an easy way
to make defense better
and reward rim protectors.
Now, I'm going to take it out.
entirely entirely entirely entirely take it also like they can't let's make one be the best player
today of all time of all time how funny would it be if they changed the rule yeah for him dude so
many archetypes of players would be completely fucked but they can't stay there forever because then we
got picking pot bigs off the triple three like they had to come out and still play defense what's
us are doing offensively like what's he supposed to do after some screens dude
Like slashes are just completely new to like him completely new.
Yeah, we probably have to up it.
Yeah.
But I would say we should, we should change it a little bit.
Yeah.
Okay.
Next.
Goaltending.
Take it out.
Let him do it.
Yeah, take it out.
Take it out.
Only, but only if it hits the rim, then it's live.
Yeah.
You still can't shoot.
You still can't block a shot on the way down before it hits the room.
But as soon as it, as soon as it touched that, it's like.
Oh, smack it off the room.
Yeah.
Okay, that's cool.
Yeah.
They require a skill.
That's the, that's the international rule.
Would that count as a block?
Yeah, why not?
Either block or rebound.
And we're trying to make Wembe the greatest fantasy basketball player of all time.
Either, either one.
But I do think that, that that should happen.
Because you know how, like, sometimes, imagine if the Kauai shot happened and is bouncing
like four times.
And B out of nowhere.
Yeah.
No, man.
And it B comes and swats it.
That way, I need nothing but swish.
We're not doing this this bouncing back and forth
We're not doing these accidental shots
I'm going going blocking
That Halley shot
It
That's why
The agenda
You know what I'm saying
The ball code comes all the way up
O'Jan and they'll be out of nowhere
Swats it all the way down
Is that really hard to do to time that
Yes
Okay I wonder if it becomes not hard
Because they just get used to it
It's like
Would that illuminate cherry picking
Mm-hmm
Because everyone will just
Crackable boards.
You're winning the entire game.
Yeah, you would have somebody designated there.
But it's kind of like timing a putback dunk, which I think at a certain point, you do get good at that skill.
But it takes a while to really understand where the ball is going to go.
Yeah.
But I would change the rule to be that.
Okay.
Next.
82 game season.
I'm keeping it.
Keeping it?
Yeah.
This is the easiest answer of all time.
Change it.
Obviously, it should be lower.
There is no reason to have it this high except for money is literally the only reason.
And I guess preserving total game records and like career accolades in that way.
The game changes all the time.
Records change all the time.
It is what it is.
The league would be so much better.
Fans would be so much happier.
Players would be so much happier aside the paychecks if the game was like a 60 game season and every game mattered more.
Yeah, man.
It would be so less stressful as an NBA fan.
It's like logging into my NBA app.
Fuck, eight games on tonight.
How am I going to watch all this?
Instead of that, three or four.
You just can't care about all the games.
It's impossible to ask a fan to care about 82 games in a season.
That's unrealistic.
The NFL is dominant because 16 games is a mad manageable number.
You wait an entire week.
If we had to watch an NBA game every three days and sit with the pain of a loss for half a week.
No, I couldn't do it for three days, but hell not.
It's so much better, so much healthier of a league if we had to sit and want and wait for something.
I just keep thinking about the history of the game and like the accolades and all that stuff where it's like, dang you.
You would have to start a separate record book.
Maybe, yeah.
And we'd have to just like normalize like per game records and stuff.
That happens in sports all the time.
It'd be weird.
That's an, that's an unfortunate downside.
Shit like that happens all the time.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I can get with it.
That's been one of my biggest holdups is just like I don't know how the history and like the fabric of the league changes.
Yeah.
With that.
Same thing.
The NFL out of the 17 game.
That changes the fabric of the league.
See, but that's true.
That's adding stuff.
But like taking stuff back seems even much more extreme than.
Yeah.
And to me, that's probably just because we haven't seen it.
And we won't because of money because that means less revenue.
So that's why you haven't seen.
That's why it feels extreme.
I think in terms of why records matter, it's no different.
Either way, it changes in a way that can't be fucked with it anymore.
But it's just a money thing.
It'll never happen.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Man, would this be a special sport with 60 game seasons?
The only reason why I'm like, I can understand someone saying, oh, keep it as is.
I mean, it is kind of cool to see teams build around and really be rewarded for having good depth and a full quality
rotating to like eight players, nine players or whatever.
But outside of that, like, you still do that.
It's not meaningful.
I mean, the, there's still a lot of games.
The moment we do it, Brown solidified, nobody's ever touching Brown's record.
Nobody, yeah.
Yeah, nobody, we need to do this.
Nobody might not touch it right now.
Imagine you play every team twice and the team in your division three times.
And that's how, that's how it should go.
That's like 62 games.
I would like it.
Now, it is going to be crazy because I, I am kind of hesitant.
I think I've said it before where I don't think the, um,
I don't think just reducing the amount of games is instantly going to fix everybody's like,
oh, people are getting hurt too much because I think that that's more attributed to the style of play
as opposed to just the number of games.
And so once we play 66 games and Yolkich is out for 25% of the season instead of, you know, 10%,
then I wonder how people are going to react to that.
Sure.
You can't solve everything.
This is a solving the regular season doesn't matter thing to me.
Yeah. Now if you do this, do you also reduce, like, instead of going to game seven, have it bring back to like five game series or not?
For the first round, first round, we can maybe play with that, but also that wouldn't have it because of money.
But every other game, yeah, the playoffs, the playoffs should stay the same.
Yeah, I don't think you need to. Okay. Okay. Next.
Conferences dictating playoff bracket.
I used to be on the side of those just do seating, no conferences.
Now as time has gone on, I'm clinging on to any way we can have rivalries and history and culture in the NBA.
conferences is like the one way we can do that we can abolish that we need to have long-term
rivalries because these teams play each other every year yeah because they take you away every other
avenue for that there's not a whole lot going for it in terms of that in the league anymore so we need
the spurs and the thunder to play each other every year I need I need I need the I need the conferences
to to be here I think you should play people in your division more than you play any other team
and I think that if you win your division
that you should have a home court advantage
in the first round.
I'm gonna go as far as that one,
but I do think they should find
some way for divisions to matter.
No, it'll be kind of tough.
They should be so many games you're here.
That used to be like, like, 2013 or something.
Yeah, you're right.
But you're right.
And then when I go back to like, I don't know,
2012 or whatever and I see,
how fucked with the 2012.
That was it on camera.
Yeah, I just spit out a burger out of my mind.
mouth, bro.
Dude loves
2012.
What year
was it when the
when the Mavericks won like
62 games?
It wasn't 2012 12 obviously.
It was like maybe old nine.
The loss of division.
Yeah.
I forget what year was.
I don't know.
I think it was like like 13, 14 or something like that.
But close enough.
It would like, listen, to steal from
Adam's favorite league now, the NFL, that's
how they do it.
And I, I think that.
it would be, again, it would be a change, but as time goes on, especially if you, if you couple that
with the fact that you're playing your division more than you're playing anybody else in the
conference, it would make sense to people and it would, it would embolden those divisional
rivalries. I think that a lot, a lot of rivalries and the easiest way to do, to create a rivalry
is with proximity and just with like the people around you. True. And frequency. Like just
make them see each other a lot and make those games matter more.
You just walk by somebody three times a day and it's like,
yo, do you, are you following me?
Like, what's your problem?
Bro, I'll beat the fuck out of you.
Exactly.
Like, yo, get off my tip right now.
And the people around me, they'll be the fuck of the people around you.
If you can create, if you can create that,
I think that that helps for the health of the league long term.
So I think that those, that those two things should be implemented.
Yes, I agree.
Okay.
Next.
Every playoff round being best.
out of seven.
Keep it.
We can cut the first round to five games.
I guess we could.
I'd be okay with it.
I see no reason to other than like impatience.
Like get me on to the second round.
This is boring.
But there's no reason to.
Nobody loses anything from there being seven rounds.
Well, I think when they start, especially this last time, man,
they were starting games 10.30 at night.
Y'all wrapped this up in a week.
1030 night.
That's just because you want to be an old man at the age of 27.
No, man.
You're just dying to be utterly.
Starting the game at 1030 is.
That's fine.
Whatever.
You are dying to be elderly.
You're grasping for old age.
It's not even, it's not even just me.
It is you though.
It's not just.
It doesn't got to be just you.
I didn't say just.
It's not.
I didn't say anything about just anything.
Okay.
No, just saying I'm speaking for the people.
No.
He just said, he just said earlier that they start,
they start games 15, 17 minutes after after the time.
You're saying that the game starts at 10.30.
Now you're not starting to 1045.
Why are we up until 2 o'clock in the morning?
I know.
And that could be all.
Doing it again the next day and the next day and the next day.
That's a bit OD.
Okay.
Now you got to move to L.A.
and shit just so you can compromise with the league.
Now, you're fuck, man.
I'll never do that.
I hate L.A.
There.
Dude loves L.
That's funny.
Next up.
2211 home court format.
I think it's fine.
I think it's probably better than what we had before.
I like it.
Yeah, for the final specifically, the 232 is.
Why are you changing it for this round?
Yeah, I think we're good here.
I think this is a good change.
We don't need to fix.
Yeah, I agree.
Keep it as is.
Okay.
Next.
The playing tournament.
Change.
Keep it.
I think it's cool.
I should wait.
Never mind.
I can't read.
I was thinking NBA Cup for a second.
The way to the cup starts.
We can keep the playing tournament.
Change it.
You have to be within a certain amount of games for it to trigger the playing tournament.
Okay.
So the tendency does the automatically get it if they're a distant tournament.
10 seed.
Yeah.
You got to be within five games for it to count me.
Okay, that's fine.
Good change.
That's an easy one.
Nice,
nice simple change to not make it tiresome.
I agree.
Because now you're forcing teams unnecessarily to fight for the lives for no reason when
they've had like a perfectly regular season.
But also those teams just get blitzed.
So it's like whatever.
I guess they maybe should be.
But also it's important.
I've had 82 games to prove that I'm better than you.
I might be seven, seven games ahead of you.
And I'll make me do it.
And now now my season comes down to one game.
I don't like.
Fair.
Next.
The draft lottery.
Man, they've done too much change to it.
At this point, let it be for what it is like that.
All the more is going on right now, man.
So much shit.
We haven't gone through one cycle of the lottery with the new odds.
It can stay for right now.
Don't change it right now.
You know what, fine.
I'll zag.
Change it every year.
Nah, man.
Every single season we've got something new, you can never gamify it.
You can never tank because you don't know what's coming next.
We reveal how the lottery is going to take place the day of the lottery.
So you have no clue.
You know what?
one year reward tankers the next year reward teams that win it's you never fucking
know you guys stay on your toes you got to try your darnest every year it's like the fucking
hunger games hell yeah quarter quell every single year we're doing it you know what the best
strategy for that might be staying mid brough you always are on every scenario possible try
try hard try to win some games is all you never know what's gonna happen you know what
you know what get rid of it get rid of the lottery make it up as we go w w e style whatever
suits the narrative that year we make it up and we choose it that
NFL doesn't have a lot of it, right?
He's just based off standing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Because you can't really tank in that sport.
It's only 16 games.
And if you tank, you die.
Your head knocked off.
To health violation.
And the fandom is like, don't accept it.
Yeah.
All right.
Next.
The second apron.
Man, do I hate that shit?
Get rid of it.
Get rid of it.
The unfortunate part is they're going to get rid of it.
They're riding so on the wall that we're dealing with this bullshit for a few years.
And it's so obviously not going to stick.
Yeah.
I don't see too many.
advantages based off it. It just made so much things, so many things more complicated for no reason.
And it's just binding his elbow. I don't think players nor fans are really beneficiaries of this at all.
Yeah. I think once you have a salary cap and like you have the luxury tax and everything, like the
Warriors, when they won their chip in 22, you know, they had a stupid high luxury tax bill and they were paying like
$450 million or something like that. But also that team, that team,
team had been together, at least the core with Steph and Draymond, like those guys have been there
for a minute. So it's not like they just went out and paid, you know, paid KD 50 million and
paid LeBron 50 million and got this super team. Like that was a team that was built. So I think if that's
the, if that's one of the pillars that you want teams to be based on, you should allow that.
Yeah, at least like for homegrown like stars like that. I agree. You can change it and alter it if you
want. Really just go go in general. But if you're going to keep it adjusted so teams like, I don't
O KC or wherever you can think of
that Debra Nuggets can get penalized for
paying and growing Jamal Murray
and PJ and you'll get stuff
on all that. Yep. Okay.
And that is it.
Dope. With that being said, that is the end
of this episode. People are still here. What should they comment?
Comment your favorite moment from 2012.
I think you've done that before because you've had many 2012 moments.
Another 2012 moment.
It was great for everyone. How much your least favorite moment from 2012?
Yeah.
What was your, what was on? That's a good question.
What was Tony?
I was saying the world was going
They were. Remember Connie?
Who's going?
You don't remember Cody?
He was like, I don't even know.
I don't know.
I don't know what to say this.
I feel like describing the Connie craze.
Comment on the Tony 2012.
It looks how to crazy looking back.
Oh shit.
Yeah.
I forgot.
And then go do some research.
Wasn't that completely fake?
I think it was all fake.
They said there was some African dude
like doing crimes in the jungle.
I remember that
Yeah
Were they saying he was like stealing kids or something
Crazy
They said some African general
Was stealing kids in the jungle
Everyone was like we gotta stop him
What the fuck was that all about?
Bro they made a whole movie of this guy
Short 30 minute documentary
I wonder if I could watch him
Who is Joseph Kelly?
That's a YouTube document
That's a YouTube document
I'll see you all on Thursday
