Starting point is 00:00:00 Next thing we're going to do today is Jaylon Brunson related. We are going to put legendary small guards across NBA history into a tier list. The tiers are short goat, short king, short and sweet, short inspiration. It's average, actually, and just short. All right. All right. All right, let's start it off with Mugsy Bows. Got to be short inspiration, right?
Starting point is 00:00:26 He dunged at 5'6. 5'6 is nuts. 5'6 and you had a like a... pretty long NBA career. He's not 5'6. He's 5'3. Oh, shit. Wait, really?
Starting point is 00:00:35 Yes, he is 5. I gave him some inches. He is 5'3 and had a career. Whenever anybody is in short, you tell them, hey, Mungsy Bowls can do it. You can't too. He's inspiration. Did you hear that growing up when you're hooping? Did you hear that growing up as a hooper?
Starting point is 00:00:52 Of course. Did you believe him? Sometimes. Of course. Depending on the day. But yeah. seen inspiration to have that long of a career. You are kind of like the pinnacle of inspiring
Starting point is 00:01:04 short kings. I agree. All right. Next. Friend of the show. Trey Young. Ah, Rose King. That's my sword king, man. The short and sweet mean you're good, but like just good. You're sweet. Short and sweet means I feel like you had like a
Starting point is 00:01:20 when you're at your top, it was good, but it was really sore. You had a moment, right? He played peak basketball for a moment. Yeah, you had a short and sweet moment. That is Trey Young. But he is a short king though, man. He's your short king. He's your short king. short and sweet though his moment 2021 222 and 223 what a moment 23 is a bit of a stretch
Starting point is 00:01:35 I say the moment of 21 half of 22 we're there and then they changed the rules and it was like I yeah no more throwing yourself back on drives oops I think in 23 he went to the I think he gave the Celtics like six games oh he had him shook and regularly season he didn't even demon that was
Starting point is 00:01:51 and he had I think one of his better offensive views yeah okay it's yeah it's definitely short and sweet but he's a lot of people short king though A lot of people. I don't know about that. He's yours. You know, a short king, I guess so, but my first thing, yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:07 I don't know you got to get the last word in. It's nice about him, but I think everyone's kind of forgotten about him. All right, next. Isaiah Thomas. Ooh. That's, that's short and sweet for real. That is definitely short and sweet run, but was the run so good when he was king of the fourth? Did I make him a short king?
Starting point is 00:02:22 No, not. Because he had a style of play that was so inspiring, so fiery. To get all NBA votes at 5'8 is the league guard and the modern NBA, it's kind of some king shit that's my second favorite Celtic season that's some king shit he's not a short goat
Starting point is 00:02:35 because you know he's not like it's like substantial to history but for the moment to be one the best players in the NBA for a season at 5 foot 8 that's what I'm saying
Starting point is 00:02:42 it's just that it's just that season because then he gets straight it goes to Cleveland he's hurt and nothing is ever the same so that's why I do think it's probably short
Starting point is 00:02:49 but was a magnitude that moment so great it could be king shit because he's also keep mind I don't think so there also is a short multiplier he's like
Starting point is 00:02:55 four inch short of than Trey Young so it's that much more impressive making that much more of a short king. That is true, but he didn't have no playoff run for real either.
Starting point is 00:03:02 They got to the conference finals. He wasn't there in the conference finals. He got them there. He got in there. I don't remember. He wants some playoff series and again, was hitting big shot after big shot. If they had clutch player in the year,
Starting point is 00:03:13 he would have got it that year. Oh. Yeah, he would have run out of that. Unanimous. He was scoring like nine points in the fourth quarter. I think Ford, the idea of a short king. That moment personifies being a short king. You know what?
Starting point is 00:03:24 Let's lift him up. You know, he's five, seven, five, eight. Let's lift him up. Let's lift him up. We didn't forget about you. We never will. All right. Next.
Starting point is 00:03:36 Chris Paul. Short goat. Short goat. This is what every short guard wants to be, right? Watch that tape. Hit those floaters, hit those mid-range fadeaways. All right. Next.
Starting point is 00:03:48 Nate Robinson. What do you do with that one? In terms of like the character being a short NBA player, he's also up there is one the most iconic winning dunk contest at 5.05. One three and all right. bro. That's why I think he's inspirational. Exactly. I agree. If you are, if anybody who's like walks into the to the LA fitness is like, you know what, I'm going to try a dunk today. If Nate Robertson can do this, I can do this too. Yeah. That's what he's like known for. And then also
Starting point is 00:04:14 he had a couple moments with the Knicks and also with the Chicago Bulls too when Derek Rose was out and he gave a lot of Bulls fans hope for a quick second. Yeah, he's, he's an inspiration. Should he actually be raised up to short and sweet thing? I think he's here. inspiration or a short king because winning three dunk contest in a row is absolute king shit So it's either inspiration or a short king It's hilarious phrasing I know Absolute king Proud. All right, probably short thing
Starting point is 00:04:42 I think inspiration though Three dunk contest in a row is crazy You right against Dwight Against Dwight Giant Slayer Peake because okay so we're talking about extracurriculars just a dunk contest We're not talking about actual on the court so I can understand inspiration Him versus Spud Webb like he had
Starting point is 00:04:59 he had a little bit more moments where he was like actually hooping. So that's why I think it might be okay if we put him at Short King and if Sput Webb is on this, then we put Spel Webb at inspirational. Because Spoke Web was short than him. Spelweb was 5'5.
Starting point is 00:05:13 Yeah. Or 5, 6, whatever. Damn, I really don't know. I really don't know. Let's go Short King. Okay, Short King. When you have an accolade like that, a moment like that, come on.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Okay. All right, next. Jalen Brunson Short goat Is he a goat already? Yeah In the finals now Took the Knicks of the finals
Starting point is 00:05:35 First time in 27 years Is that goat shit? Yeah He led with some multiple Like Playoff runs at this point He's a goat He's a goat
Starting point is 00:05:42 Yeah Yeah Three seasons in the row He's been a playoff killer Yeah Finally took good The playoffs Second round pick
Starting point is 00:05:48 Was not supposed to be this good So yeah To have that much balance To have that much footwork That doesn't happen Every day That's a short goat Is he like one of the
Starting point is 00:05:59 of the 20 most skilled guards ever when you consider the size and the level of which he used at scoring? I will say 15. Is he more skilled than Kyrie? All right. He's the convos. Because people have such a narrow version of what skill is, but the way he gets to his shot so consistently
Starting point is 00:06:15 and so reliably, like, he's got to be one of the more all-time skilled guards. Yeah, he's definitely up there. But I think, like, anytime you can lead your team, when you lead your team to a finals at whatever statute you are, but people look at you and they say, Small guard. Okay, you are, you're in that category.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Yeah. I think I keep mind, he's doing this with a 400-pound head. And that is so impressive. It makes him harder to balance, you're right. It makes it incredible. Yeah. All right, next. Nate Tiny Archibald.
Starting point is 00:06:43 Goat. His nickname is literally tiny archibald. He's goaded. All the favor. Yeah. You're a short goat. You think he said, your nickname is tiny. And also he was like light as well, too.
Starting point is 00:06:53 He wasn't heavy at all. Yeah, he was a tiny. He's a pioneer for being small in the NBA. Yeah. Yeah, you kind of have to go go. Do he weighed 150 pounds, according to basketball reference? That's ridiculous. And he was out here averaging 34.
Starting point is 00:07:09 Average in 34. Meanwhile, NBA players can pick him up and spit him like a pizza. That's insane. He's getting bullied at that weight. 150? Oh my God. That's nuts. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Goat. I don't even remember the last time I was 150. I really don't I don't apologize it's my truth yeah it's my truth is your truth in your life okay
Starting point is 00:07:38 thanks JJ Berea short irritants uh it's average actually I think it might just actually be average it's a good size to me he might just be short
Starting point is 00:07:51 yeah but he had that moment he would be just short but he did punk LeBron so it's average actually but I think it's not about how big you are it's about what you do with it
Starting point is 00:08:03 but he was able to take on LeBron it's average actually you want to get it natural linguistics badly I know but if he is just short then that makes his feet even bigger
Starting point is 00:08:17 than if we say that he's average to really about what you do with this just short yeah just short okay all right you short Gagea Barreyes
Starting point is 00:08:28 loot next Fred van fleet it's average actually no he's not average well Fred's fine he had he had a moment after he had he had his kid all of a sudden he turned into Chris Ball
Starting point is 00:08:42 sounds like a short and sweet moment how long would he short and sweet because Trey Young was three years you know teach throw it isn't that's not that serious I don't know he won a championship off of the strength of dad power that's a short and sweet moment if I ever heard one a ring was
Starting point is 00:08:58 He did get around. And they made an All-Star the next year, so they continued. Short, you know what? Then you got a bag the next year. You have to respect it. Honestly, it just sounds like it keeps going. He's just him? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:11 Short King. Is this a short king? Undrafted as well? Unrafted, ring, All-Star Max Contract. Short King. Short King. You did it all. You hit the full journey of your career.
Starting point is 00:09:21 Especially in this area too. Yeah. Salute. Salute. Next. And he's a good defender despite the size. Short King. Patty Mills. It's actually average.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Yeah, it's average size. Yeah. Yeah, he's too. Just runs around, choose threes, goes on. He has a couple runs here and there. All right. Yeah, he never felt like a small, small guard. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:47 Kimball Walker. Oh, Campbell Walker. He could be inspirational. Could be a short king also. I don't know if he didn't think of a short king. It was always... He carried... That Yukon run?
Starting point is 00:09:59 Yeah, Father college Kimba. Short goat. What do we do with Kemba? He's an all-star. One of the best crossovers in NBA history. One-time all-NBA, 13, 2018. Sounds like a moment. 2019, I think.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Short and sweet. But he had a lot of time. It just never materialized, like, the superstar you wanted. But he had a long run of being the guy for Charlotte. He just wasn't, like, an amazing guy. I think he's inspirational. It's not, but Kimba's not inspirational like that. Inspiration on New York City Hoopers, but, like, I'm not from.
Starting point is 00:10:29 there. I mean, inspirational things about him is like, yeah, his killer crossover and shit. His handker, cool handles. His color crossover,
Starting point is 00:10:45 so inspirational. Yeah. Look at Kempa, man. So inspirational. We can keep him there. Why not? I guess he's,
Starting point is 00:10:52 I don't know if it's better. Yeah. Yeah. You know, he might be just average. we can't put him next to patty mills in just short yeah patty bill's just short kem'll just average yeah because there's actually nothing like obviously like patty can can shoot but like he's just a regular player yeah i can't walker it's average actually yeah let's do that
Starting point is 00:11:14 on do average yeah and put patty mills down okay sorry patty next heyton pritchard he's tough is he a short inspiration the way he's able to get his buckets off for the white boys didn't be a white boy it looked like that And he's such a problem. Yeah. And dude, I think I remember around COVID, he had posted videos of him in a garage, just doing dribble tutorial, just pound of the fucking rock. Inspiration.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Yeah, I think he's an inspiration for the white boys. He's an inspiration for the shorter guys. He is an inspiration for the get buckets type. Because remember, he had scored like 90 in like a Julie game or like one of those program games and became the like one of the post of boys of like, man, if you just give him time in the league. He could actually score like that. And then he actually went and did the things to get better to get on the floor and was a very like key piece in the Celtics championship, you know, window. So I would say, I'd say inspiration is fair. Fair enough. I agree. You work your way
Starting point is 00:12:14 up. Short inspiration. All right. Next. Detroit, Isaiah Thomas. That's short goat. Short go. Easy. Easy. Easy to easily. Multiple time champion. Besides Steph Curry, you're the only one people point to and say this smaller guard led teams of champions as the best player. The Lakers, Celtics, and Bulls were going back and forth with their dynasties, and then in between there is a two-year blip of a back-to-back championship, Isaiah Thomas' spearhead in that. That's 6'4-1. Yeah, if you ask Isaiah Thomas, too, they were rob up a three-peat.
Starting point is 00:12:42 Yeah. All right. Last one, Alan Iverson. Short goat. Short goat. Short goat. Say the best for last. Iconic, the most iconic short player in NBA history probably.
Starting point is 00:12:52 He's six-foot tall, most influential player of his decade, coolest player of his decade, most loved player of his decade. as an aesthetic play style everybody loves. How can you be more goaded as a short guy than Alan Everston? This play style, the crossover, the number, the fucking braids. Yeah, no literally. Strikes again. Literally with him specifically, the number, bro.
Starting point is 00:13:13 Yeah, it keys everything.
