Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Delta Flyers Journey Through the Wormhole with Quark, Dax,
and their good friends, Tom and Harry.
Join us as we make our way through episodes of Star Trek Deep Space Nine.
Your host for today are my fellow Trek actors, Terry Farrell, Robert Duncan McNeil, and myself,
Garrett Blanc.
Yay.
And you know what?
What?
You know what?
We're going to chat a little.
We're going to talk about this episode.
and then there's bonus material.
Shut up.
What?
Bonus material for our subscribers.
Explain.
What kind of?
com forward slash the Delta Flyers and listen to all the extra insider info.
It's very cool.
It is.
And super fun.
Yeah, it is.
It really is fun.
It's fun on the regular broadcast, but on the full extended version, it's even funner.
Well, because that's when you interact with like the,
questions and we play the games and yeah it is it is fun i love the bonus material yeah i like the
reveals the yes yes contests prizes all of it yeah all of it how are you guys pretty good how are you
yeah yeah good i'm good i spent about an hour and a half on the phone with a x s trying to get my
tickets to the concert i'm going to a bunch of technical support that was i was talking to a really
nice lady though. So we had a wonderful chat as she was sweetly being patient saying,
are you kidding me? Okay, I'll be right back. I wonder if Starfleet had technical support.
Like if we were, you know, yes, they had me. If you were like on DS9 and, you know, something wasn't
working. Could you call an 800 number and get a Starfleet? 1-800 Dax. Dax. Okay.
1-800 Judziah Dax was probably it. How would you access that? Would you actually hit your
combat.
Yes.
Andson Kim to Starfleet technical support.
Yes.
And some guy pops in real quick.
I'd be very.
Yes.
I love that.
Sure.
Opsidax.
Oh boy, here we go.
What concert are you going to?
Dave Matthews band.
Oh, I love that.
That's like a classic jam band.
It's a classic cult favorite band is what the Dave Matthews band is.
And Fiddler's Green.
I've never been there, but I'm driving up and I'm taking
myself on a long weekend vacate.
Good for you.
Good for you.
Thank you.
All right.
What's your favorite?
Everybody's favorite concert that they've ever been to, live show.
There's got to be one that's like the top number one show.
What is it?
Oh, gosh.
I'll tell you mine.
Yeah.
Go.
It's going to surprise you.
And it surprised me because I've been to a lot of shows.
But years ago, I went to see John Cougar Mellencamp at Giant Stadium in New
Jersey. It was a phenomenal show. He played, took an intermission, came back. He played for like four
hours or something. It was so, and it was never dull, John Cougar, Mellencamp, the band, the crowd,
the whole thing. It was really, and it surprised me because I went with some friends and I was like,
yeah, I like John Cougar, yeah, sure, we'll go. Yeah. Amazing show. Blue my mind.
Wow. Yeah. Terifer. What do you, uh, you know what? We, um,
Brian and I took Max to Coldplay when he was 10.
I think he was a little young because it was hard for him to,
after the first couple songs, be awake enough for all of it.
But they put on a spectacular show too.
It was just there was constant things going on,
balloon giant balloons for all of us to, you know, hit to each other.
Chris Martin is a fantastic performer as our, you know, their band.
But he kept changing it up, you know,
And we all had special bracelets that all lit up at a certain time.
And they were like heavy duty light up bracelets.
They weren't just some little teeny thing.
Yeah.
And I can't remember what else.
But it was fun and it moved and confetti and balloons.
And, I mean, there were more balloons on top of the balloons we hit.
So it was really fun.
Nice.
Nice.
Garrett, what about you?
Well, before I get into that, I just want to say,
thank you, Robbie, for bringing this up.
I mean, this is a wonderful question.
And it's great to sort of, you have a question in this intro period.
I so thank you for that.
Yeah.
That's all.
Yeah.
Yes.
Two things I would say, I'm trying to think about memorable, right?
What is a memorable concert?
And it wasn't necessarily the artist, but it was just a moment at a concert.
I was at a Moby concert.
Moby.
Oh, wow.
Wow. Wow.
Dr. Drew from KROQ, K Rock in Los Angeles.
Dr. Drew was there as well, and he was probably 20 feet away from me and he kept staring at me.
I remember that.
He kept just.
Dr. Drew Penske.
Yes, Dr. Drew Penske was just.
Well, he knows where we are.
He's a Star Trek fan.
So that's, I'm sure that's what it was.
So that Moby concert was one.
And the other one would be when Megan and I took our daughter, Keeley, to Taylor Swift to
see the Taylor Swift concert.
Oh, wow.
Everything in Canada was booked.
We couldn't get a ticket.
So we started thinking, can we get something overseas?
And they announced Australia.
So then we went on using our phones.
And I popped in at the 21-minute mark.
We had 17 devices, laptops.
I remember when you did this.
Oh, yeah, me too.
Yeah, wow.
The 21-minute mark, boom, popped in.
You get four tickets in B-section, which is second best from what after a day.
In Melbourne.
So then, yes.
So I was like, yeah, we flew out to Melbourne, Australia.
I remember where you did this.
And it was just.
You're a good dad.
You know, that is really generous and amazing.
This was a time that she needed.
You'll never forget that.
No, but she needed this concert.
Yeah, yeah.
I remember that.
This experience.
This was very important for her to have something to keep her focused on and distracted really.
And that was the one.
And it was just.
What a memorable show.
Wow.
Looking over at her, Keeley, how excited she was.
I spent more time staring at her and her friend that were there that we also invited to come with us than Taylor Swift, to be honest.
I because I was just emotional.
I was tearing up, you know, it was just, oh, it was such a, so that would be my most, you know, memorable of all and important concerts that I've ever been to.
Wow.
Yeah.
That sounds very much.
Okay, that makes me think of more, but we don't have time for more.
Let's go through some of these birthdays.
Let's do.
Mary Jack Greer has a birthday on September 28th.
Merry Jack, happy birthday.
Happy birthday, Mary Jack.
I want my...
Mary Jack, Mary Jack, Mary Jack, Mary Jack.
Happy birthday, Mary Jack, career.
Happy birthday, Kit, Marie, September 29th.
I hope it's an amazing day.
Happy birthday, Kit.
Have a great day.
Happy birthday, Kit.
And on September 30th, we have Kristen.
Happy birthday, Kristen.
Happy birthday, Kristen.
Happy, happy birthday, Kristen.
And on October 3rd is Alexander Ray's birthday.
Happy birthday, Alexander.
Happy birthday, Alexander.
Happy, happy, happy birthday, Alexander.
Let's do a little bit of poetry synopsis, starting off with Terry.
This is much lighter than the last episode.
Yes, yes.
100%.
The Jim Hidar busted our party.
Our little ship is small but hearty.
They think they can win, but our team gave them a spin.
When will they learn they'll never win?
Love it. Love it.
Can I hear your limerick before I do my haiku, please?
Yes, of course.
All right, here is my limerick for one little ship.
This is a story of a little ship that took a little trip
and found itself in the Gem Hadar's grip,
with a runabout quite small,
Dax flew through it all.
No matter what,
they won't surrender the ship.
Yay.
I'm most proud that I got Worf's line in there,
his poem from the episode.
I started mine like that to begin with too.
And then I thought,
seriously,
I kind of wish I would have kept it now
because that would have been hilarious.
That's hilarious.
That's very good.
I thought you guys would give me a bad time, though.
No, no, no.
You got to work it in there.
It's right in the episode.
It's great.
Oh, it's so good.
Here's my haiku for one little ship.
A routine mission, Dax, Doc, Chief are really small.
Can they stay that way?
I loved them like that.
I'll get into this later in the more detail in another segment in the bonus material.
I'll explain my reasoning behind that.
Okay, we're good on that one.
We are going to jump to a patron submitted poetry winner.
All right, light verse in ballad style quatrain, submitted by Charlie Faulkner.
There once was a little ship that took a little trip.
It slipped into a swirl of light and shrank with every dip.
Its crew of three, now small as seeds, sailed on with steady grip,
through vents and wires and glowing ducks on their impossible trip.
The giants never saw them come.
too proud to feel the pinch.
They'd conquered every meter yet were beaten by an inch.
So raise a glass at Corks tonight and let the story slip.
The mightiest of victories came from one little ship.
I love that.
I love that.
Very, very good.
Yeah.
Charlie, thank you.
That was amazing.
It was really good.
Good job.
Good job.
All right.
This episode is written by Bradley Thompson and David.
Weddwell, directed by Alan Craker, guest stars, Aaron Eisenberg as Kudak etan,
Fritz Berberg as Extana Rex.
I don't know why I'm doing that voice for it, but I just did.
I don't know, but you know, goodness, it's you doing this.
I can't call them that.
I can't speak their names that way for the entire podcast.
I will.
Okay, fine.
Extanorex.
I don't care to memorize any of their names.
Kudakatan, extonerox.
Extanorex.
Extanorex.
exterricks.
Okay.
Leland Crook as Gellon
and Christian Zimmerman
as Lamat Ukon.
Nice.
I almost held my breath through
that whole thing.
Fritz Spurberg,
by the way,
I directed in an episode
of Voyager, Body and Soul.
Oh.
Yeah, Fritz is great.
I thought all the Gem and Ar were great.
I thought they were really,
the guest stars were all really good in this.
Yeah.
Let's go through some trivia.
Let's do you.
This episode was dubbed
Honey,
I shrunk the runabout behind the scenes.
So this is how they referred to this episode.
Very funny.
Very funny.
The story originated with Renee Eshavaria.
When Eshaviria was still a freelancer, he wrote a spec script about a shuttle and its occupants
shrinking due to an accident and then using their newly reduced size to save the USS Enterprise D.
He didn't pitch the script at the time, but several years later, after he'd become a staff writer,
he approached Jerry Taylor about doing it, but she was uninterested.
When he joined Star Trek, Deep Space Nine, he pitched it to Michael Pillar, but Pillar was also uninterested.
Then when Ira Stephen Bear took over as an executive producer, Escher Verria pitched it again.
But once again, he was rejected.
He spent the next several years trying to convince Bear that the show had potential and eventually Bear capitulated.
Wow.
No, no, no, no.
And finally, yes.
How about we just applaud Renee at Chevaria for his tenacity and his belief in himself?
Yes.
Yeah.
Bravo, Renee.
Persistence pays off.
I also thought about this episode reminds me of one of my favorite movies when I was a kid,
The Fantastic Voyage or Fantastic, maybe it's just Fantastic Voyage, but it's based on an Isaac Asimov story, the Fantastic Voyage, about
the ship that gets shrunk down and put inside someone's body and goes through the body.
Yes. I remember that.
Or inner space is kind of based on the same premise.
With Bob Ricardo.
Yes.
Yes.
Yeah.
I'm surprised that they push back on his story pitch so much because it comes from such a sci-fi lineage.
You are absolutely right.
Yeah.
Okay.
Next bit of trivia.
Kira's role in the teaser of this episode was written specifically to act as a surrogate for the audience.
according to Ronald D. Moore, quote, it is an absurd premise, and Kira's reaction acknowledges that.
It's like a signal to the audience.
This is kind of silly, folks, and we know it's kind of silly, but try to run with us on this one.
That makes sense.
Yeah, that makes sense.
Okay.
Next up, this episode went into production before, far beyond the stars, but it aired the week after,
presumably due to the lengthy post-production special effects work.
That makes total sense.
It does.
Lots of his effects here.
Yeah.
Wow.
There we go.
Well, cool.
Yeah.
We start the episode with the captain's log.
We see the ship.
I just want to say a cool approach of the Defiant as it pans around and reveals this anomaly vortex.
Cisco says the Defiance order to investigate a rare subspace compression phenomenon, recently discovered.
And the crew is going to be, you know, subjected to severe spatial distortions.
So they've got a tractor beam on it.
So we don't know that they're going to get shrunk at this point.
We just think they're going into a dangerous place and they need a tractor beam on them.
We don't know exactly what's going to happen to them.
But as we cut into the bridge, Kira's checking on Nog.
And this is where we learn, oh, they're going to shrink.
The miniaturization process.
process won't begin until it reaches the edge of the accretion disk.
Lots of science in here.
But yeah, they're going to shrink.
I was like, okay, don't even try to keep track of what that might mean.
Yeah, they're going to shrink, basically.
They're going to shrink.
And this is what they were talking about where Kira responds.
She's laughing.
I love her laugh in the scene, by the way.
Oh, I thought she was excellent.
This scene was an excellent scene.
Yeah.
I think for everyone.
There's a lot of good stuff in this episode, honestly.
I really enjoyed this episode.
Me too.
But her laugh, she laughs at this whole concept that they're going to get shrunk down.
Avery laughs.
Sisko laughs.
And like their chemistry or their laughter felt so real and authentic.
It was a great way to start the episode.
Yeah.
And wasn't it great that the Nog Wharf connection.
Yes.
Because Wharf is obviously worried about me.
And when he says, I don't think that what's so funny about?
being small.
Yeah.
Because he's probably a nervous wreck.
And then Nog's like, yeah.
Yeah.
What's so funny?
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was very funny.
Yeah.
And then we learn also in the scene that Warf has to write a poem that Dax has requested
it.
It's a cling on tradition when something important happens to write a poem about it.
Which made me think of our podcast immediately.
Yes, exactly.
But they do start shrinking.
We see this on a monitor.
We see the image on the monitor of the shuttle.
or the runabout getting shrunk down and Kira wonders what that feels like.
Then we cut inside the runabout and O'Brien is very nervous about shrinking, which I thought
he was very funny in this whole episode, just kind of nervous.
Yeah, I like the banter between the three of us through the whole thing.
I did too.
Yeah, it was one of my favorite parts because I just made me think, wow, it's too bad.
They didn't use the three of us together more often because our humor played with each other so well.
A hundred percent.
Why I said can they stay like that so that you guys are, you know, okay.
Go on missions.
Yes.
In tiny mode.
Good idea.
What is my idea?
I'll talk about that later in the bonus material.
In the bonus.
Yes.
I've already written a dissertation on this.
I do.
I'm so excited.
I'm going to pitch this to both of you as if you guys are studio executives.
Okay.
So.
Perfect.
I did like how Bashir is saying, well, you're like, you know, three feet in front of me.
So you're actually smaller miles than I am.
It's very funny.
He did not like that.
Yeah.
And then there's a big shake at the end of this scene.
Bang.
The tractor beam is failing.
Something is wrong.
We cut onto the Defiant Bridge.
And I just made a note, Alan Craker shoots great action scenes.
Yes.
You know, things are exploding everywhere.
and then you cut to Cisco and his legs are crossed and he's just like relaxed in the chair.
I thought that was.
Did that play into the humor of it because that seemed a little.
It is funny, but is it incongruent with being attacked?
It is incongruent with being attacked.
Why would he be that relaxed?
He's cool.
He's cool.
He's that cool?
Cisco is that cool.
Okay.
Well, it's the.
The Gem Hadar attacking, you know, they're coming around for another pass.
They've lost their tether to the runabout.
They're losing the Rubicon, we learn.
And we cut into the Rubicon and we see it in space kind of catapulted it as the tractor beam, let's go.
It's like flies forward into this purple anomaly.
Purple haze.
Yep.
They're on their own.
My first thought process is, how did you not deterred?
those Gem-Hadar fighters before they were right on top of you.
But then there is one explanation.
Radiation from the vortex must have masked their signatures,
what Kira says.
And I thought, oh, okay.
There's the answer.
Yeah.
I like it when they thread that in because otherwise you feel a little bit lost.
Yeah.
Sometimes you do need exposition.
You do.
Yeah.
Well, back on the defiant bridge,
Kira takes a big hit and falls to the ground.
I liked her stunt work there.
It was very good.
She hits the ground.
They are in big trouble.
And suddenly the Gem Hadar appear all over the bridge.
They're surrounded on the bridge.
Yeah.
And boom.
Boom.
It's bad.
This is bad.
You will all be killed.
We go to the runabout, the Rubicon.
They have survived.
They've escaped this anomaly.
So they, whatever they shot through, they think they're fine.
Yeah.
They lost sensors and comms, but they're okay.
I've never realized that there's shutters on the shuttle.
I didn't know that either.
Yeah, she can't see anything because you have to have the comms to see, to visualize on the view screen things.
So there's shutters or something.
Are the shutters there to protect us from going in, maybe?
I guess so.
From the impact of whatever that.
Yeah.
I don't know.
That seemed like a new thing to me.
It did to me too.
It felt like, are you kidding me?
There's never been any.
I can't see.
I need to get, you know.
It's like a house by the ocean that has storm shutters and you shut the shutters.
Right.
But, but Robbie, we'd have that tech too on Voyager.
We've never talked about any shutters having shutters.
No.
I don't remember talking about it before.
But they made that up for just this episode.
Do I need shutters on my Ford Explorer?
You sure do.
Just in case those birds are coming right at you.
You can't drive with them closed.
You can go on.
You can drive with them slightly ajar, just a little bit open.
That is bizarre.
Yeah.
Here we are.
Well, you can't see anything because the shutters are closed and the comms are down, sensors and calms are down.
So you do say in this scene, let's lock on to the defiance transponder.
So you're going to fly by radar, I guess.
Yes.
Dax says at the end of the scene, she says, chief, either open the shutters or give me some external sensors, whichever is quicker.
I need to see what's going on.
The shutters.
Well, at least I get to captain the ship as well.
I'm driving.
You've got a crank and you sort of crank the shutters open.
That would have been cool.
That would have been funny.
Yes, it would have.
An emergency, like a red box.
Yeah, you open the box.
There's a generation of people that are listening to this that don't know what that even means to crank something.
Yes, I'm telling you.
Everything is touching.
Everything is huge.
Like cranking down.
the window. Remember every car? You had to
wind the window down by doing this movement
on a little handle. There are people
alive today that have no idea
what that means. Of course.
Yeah. It's foreign to that.
And they're fine. And they'll be fine.
Because the buttons
have overtaken everything. Everything is
automatic now. Yes. Well, I do have a
crank in my windows at home. Do you?
Oh. To open them up.
Oh, yeah. Nice. I like those old
fashion. Do they kind of like
go out? Yeah. Do they turn?
sideways like oh i love those old windows they open yes from left to right not up and down but you know
the oldest ones are the ones that are the windows that are double hung yes do you remember those
yes that was bad because if one of those ropes broke then you're trying to get the holes or
something maybe that's how your runabout windows were it could fall on your fingers yes be careful
with the shutters all right we're back on the bridge of the defying the gem had are in control
They're everywhere, but there's no warp power.
Kudakaten.
Can I just call him Koo?
Yes.
Yes.
Okay.
Kudaketan.
Yeah.
Kudakaten.
Kudakaten.
Kudakaten.
Kodakitan.
I'm just going to call them Kud.
I'm going to say Koo and X.
K'n X.
That's easier.
Kud.
Kudeketin and Ix and Kud.
X tonne rocks.
Kud.
Bobby, just Koo and X.
K and X.
I'm going to stick with Koo and X.
Okay.
All right, so, Koo is the first.
He's young.
We learn he's the first.
Ix, Extanerox, is the elder.
And Koo says to Ix, he says, you must be happy.
You're ending your career here.
There's clearly tension between these guys.
Let's make note that X is not from the Alpha Quadrant.
He was born and bred in the gamma quadrant.
So he's a gamma quadrant, Gemha Dar.
This is the first time we hear that there,
breeding, genetically engineering, Gem Hadar in the alpha quadrants, like engineered for alpha quadrant
stuff, right?
Specifically.
And we learned of that because of the 22,000 ships that were eliminated in the wormhole
in the episode by the prophets.
So they had to breed them in the off quadrant.
Well, there's tension between these guys because the old Gem Hadar, Ixtar narox.
Or X.
Or X.
Yeah, he's like the veteran, but he's been demoted because these new, you know, rock stars.
Okay, wait a minute, too.
Aren't they specifically one is bred more for fighting and the other one?
I don't know about that.
They're bred for alpha quadrant, whatever, like to fight in the alpha quadrant.
Maybe it says later.
They're not real clear.
I don't know if they're ever really clear.
They're just kind of generally.
Oh, my gosh.
Why did they even do that in this episode?
I know.
Or you could call one alpha and the other gamma.
That's the other way, too.
Oh, that's true.
Yeah.
Okay.
Alpha Q.
Alpha Q.
Alpha Koo calls a Vorta.
He calls his boss, Gellan.
I like this Vorta.
I thought he was great.
From the side, because that's how we first see him.
We don't see him face on.
From the side on profile, I thought that was Iggy Pop again.
Oh, really?
I was funny.
That's funny.
I was a little confused.
Yeah, yeah.
I can see why you would say that.
Well, Gellon is the Vort.
he's very happy with the newly bred Gemadar succeeding in their debut.
So we learned that this is kind of the first wave, the first mission of Alpha Koo in charge.
Yeah.
And they bicker a little bit.
The Alpha and the Gamma bicker a little bit.
Gellman says, you know what, argue about this all in your own time.
Just get the warp drive going on the defiant and get back here to Dominion territories.
Alpha coup says bring Cisco to the bridge
And Gamma X, the veteran says
I would suggest that his execution can wait
Until we have completed repairs on the ship
And the Alpha says, I'm not going to execute him
Are you questioning my order second?
And so they're bickering.
These guys are just bickering all the time.
And the gamma defers
And he says obedience brings victory
And the alpha, the first says victory is life.
So we hear these guys, you know, chanting their brainwashing a little bit.
I think the bickering gets kind of exhausting.
It's kind of goes nowhere.
A little boring.
It's just, yeah.
Okay, you did it.
Now let's get more specific.
It doesn't add to the story.
I don't think.
We do learn that they turn the transponder off in the scene.
Alpha Koo says turn the transponder off.
So that means the runabout can't find them because you haven't opened the shutters yet.
So you're using the transponder.
And we can't talk to them or here.
No, no, no calms, no nothing.
So the transponder's off.
That's, that's going to be bad.
We cut into the mess hall where they're holding all the prisoners.
And Nog is helping Kira with her wound.
Wharf is very wound up in the scene.
Yes.
Blaming himself.
Yes.
He's blaming himself.
He's very worried about Dax in this episode.
Isn't that sweet?
Well, I'm his new wife, so expected.
Yes, he better be.
He didn't go through all of that waiting for me to say yes, to have me disappear.
And shrink down.
Shrink down.
Yes.
That would not work.
No.
No, that would not work.
What if you came back, yeah, shrunken?
And what?
Two centimeters.
I'd have to live in his earlobe for him to hear me.
That would not work.
You just sit inside his earloom.
It's like a hammock.
He'd have to have a little earring and I'd be on a swing.
You'd be on a swing.
That's perfect.
That is perfect.
I love it.
That image.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
That should be a hallmark ornament.
Cisco says this is not going to be easy, but we can get out of this.
He's staying positive.
He says, first we've got to get out of this mess hall.
we're locked in here we got to get out of here and that's when gamma x the second comes in for ben
and they leave so good timing he's that was funny yes this goes like we got to get out of
that writing ding dong balancing with the humor yeah yeah that was good we go uh onto the runabout
the Rubicon and they're working on restoring all their systems here they get the shutters open
Back to still doing that.
Yes.
And so they use the transponder to get back to the Defiant, but they need the shutters.
They can't call for them to, you know, let them on.
So they haven't seen the Defiant yet because the shutters are closed.
And that's when they get the shutters open.
They look out the window.
And I loved SIDS.
Oh, was he cute?
And then when he spin, he spun.
Yeah, he spun around.
Yes, that was so cute.
He was like a little boy.
And it was perfect.
It was perfect.
It was.
And a great visual effect shot because it pulls out of the Rubicon.
Yes.
And you think the Rubicon's normal size, but as it pulls back, you see, oh, no, it's
Oh, yeah.
I love when Bashir 2 says, hold on, Chief, you're not going to like this.
Yes, exactly.
And then we see how teenyy.
Yeah.
It's a great shot.
Yeah, great shot.
One of the Viz effects, they brought, like you said, Gera, they delayed this because of all these
very complicated visual effects.
Very much more complicated than any other episode that we've seen so far.
I wish we had like Rob Legato on to explain it all to us.
How they did it.
A lot of CGI which was still relatively new back then.
So really expensive.
Yeah.
It had to be up there with making odomorph.
I would think so.
Having us fly through the whole thing.
Having you fly through people's legs and underneath the set.
Yeah.
Oh my God.
Well, we come back a little later after commercial.
and they're trying to process how tiny they are.
And we do learn in this scene that they have to go back in and exit the same way they entered
if it's going to restore them to their size.
They must have come out a different path.
That's why they didn't return.
Of course we did.
Yeah.
And you had the shutters close.
So how would you know where you're known?
Yes.
I did like the bit with Miles and Bashir when they're talking about how small.
small they are.
You're telling me I'm going to be this buddy tall.
And he's like, nope, you're going to be like this.
Oh my God.
Yes.
For the rest of your life.
Very funny bits between those guys.
But then O'Brien says, you know what?
I think I can get us in through an aft plasma vent.
So they can fly into a tiny vent in the back, fly through the
vents and maybe get inside the ship. I loved your response at the end when you said, I love it.
Let's go. It was great. Thank you. So good. Yeah, there was no thought process. I was just,
I like to. It was just a balance. I love the balance of it. Yes. Yes. All three of us taking things
serious in like kind of rotation. Yeah. One of us is serious and two of us are being funny. And then
the other person is serious. Yeah. Yeah. It was great. Great. Great.
chemistry with the three of you. I agree with what he said earlier. Like it would be fun to see you three
more often on some adventure. Right? Yeah. I mean, they're always great together. Always the two of them.
But throwing you in that mix just around. It was great. It really worked. Thank you.
Yeah. They were they're fun. They're just fun to work with. And I think Allen did a great job too of
keeping all of us, you know, in this pacing. We had a consistent.
persistent pacing inside the Rupacom that was quick, not so fast that you felt like you lost anything,
but we definitely had a tempo to our performances within the RubeCon, the entire show, which I loved.
There was a definite level of efficiency happening in the shuttle.
Yeah, it was great.
Well, we go on the bridge.
We learn that the impulse engines are going to be ready in about 12 minutes, but they still don't have warp drive.
Alpha Koo, Kudakatan.
I'm dying to say that name, right.
Kudiketan.
Kudakatan.
Alpha, number one, die.
I do this every time.
I try to say its name.
I give up.
I go to Alpha.
Number one and former, former number one.
As long as we don't forget which one's the second and which one's the first.
Well, the first says the emissary, it was the emissary that made them breed the alphas.
He tells Cisco this.
Yeah.
After the emissary, you know, destroyed all of these Gem Hadar and closed the wormhole.
And he tells Cisco that he's got to fix the warp drive or he will execute the crew one at a time.
He's hardcore.
Cisco does bait them a little bit in the scene, though.
He says, well, it's going to take me forever to train the Gem Hadar to do this.
It would be better if we did it ourselves.
And Alpha Koo, the first says, okay, you can have three of your crew.
to help, which is conveniently the perfect number to use all the series regulars.
So that was a weird line.
Yeah.
Feels like it would have been better if he just said, I can let you have a couple or,
you know, something more vague.
I'll let you have your group.
Or he should have said, I can let you have the series regulars and the recurring character.
That's what it felt like he was saying.
Yeah.
It felt like he was literally saying, I'll let you have the series regular.
The ones that can speak.
I had to take that moment to go, one, two, three, four.
Okay.
They're all there.
Yeah.
So Cisco, he's working it out.
And he played, he played right.
They played right into his hands.
Yes, they did.
Yeah.
Yes.
Back in the Rubicon, uh, we see that the, the little tiny ship, the tiny runabout is in a air duct or a plasma duct.
Cool. Cool.
Wasn't it cool?
Yeah.
And the lights of the bat up from the exhaust and the fire lighting up the tunnel from behind.
Yeah.
Right.
I just thought that was.
really cool.
And it's so much fun.
Isn't that one of those crazy things being an actor and you see movies and you go, oh, I want to,
I want to be in a scene where I'm slow-mo.
I want to be in a scene where you don't see the whole thing until you see the movie.
And that's what that was like.
We're pretending.
But then when you see it, it's like, oh, that's so cool.
That's us.
It was very cool.
Well, they're trying to get oriented.
and O'Brien is like, I think I know where we are,
but I've never seen it from this perspective.
He's trying to navigate.
Bashir makes a comment about the dirty vents.
He's like, hey, chief, these are pretty dirty.
I think you need to clean these when this is all over.
It's very funny.
Dax is like, don't tease him about the dirty vents.
Yes.
And then Bashir's.
Let's not badger to the chief.
It's not badger the chief.
And then Bashir says, oh, I'm sorry.
That's very small of me.
Very clever.
Very clever.
This would be the perfect episode to introduce kids to Star Trek, I think.
Yeah, I would.
Fun and, yeah.
Yeah.
We cut inside a turbo lift and Cisco is getting into the turbo lift with the second or the veteran guy who's kind of grumpy that he's been.
demoted. He is clearly mad. He's not the boss in this scene. He threatens Cisco. If there's any kind of
treachery, he says, or sneakiness, you try to pull anything and I'm going to be watching you.
He does share in the scene. He kind of reveals to Cisco that he was specifically designed for
combat in the Alpha Quadrant. That's where I got that idea. Yeah, he says,
he's an alpha,
I'm a gamma,
and his DNA and psychological profile
are specifically designed for combat
in this quadrant.
So.
I nitpick here.
Like, what's the difference in combat in alpha
versus gamma?
That that's,
what is so different from alpha from gamma is all.
Yeah.
I think they're just testing them out.
Yeah.
I think the Vorta are just testing them out in this situation.
I suppose.
I mean,
it does leave open for future episodes.
if they want to write an episode where these new Gem Hadar have something that is specific to this quadrant, you know.
Yeah.
Immune to something or I don't know.
I don't know.
But Cisco definitely gets in this turbolift scene that there's conflict between these Jim Hidar.
And he can capitalize on that in some way.
So he's clocking all this, I'm sure.
I do like that last line.
Me too.
That X says, after Cisco says, what do you believe?
I believe I've given you enough information already.
I know, and I was like, dang it, Cisco, you shouldn't have said it.
You should have said it that way.
What do you believe?
It was so leading.
I was like, no, sound more casual.
Yeah.
Okay, so we are on the bridge and Alpha Koo, our first in this story, is reporting to
Gellon, the Vorda, his boss.
They do have impulse power now.
So they can head out to a nearby Dominion Outpour.
host. We learned that the warp drive will maybe be ready in about five hours. I don't think this
episode lasts five hours. So. But also that does not seem unreasonable. No. But they start getting
really round up and it's like. Yeah. We need it. Dude, it's the warp core. Yeah. Yeah. That should
have been the line. Dude, it's the warp core. That would have been awesome. Well, impulse is not bad.
Like, that's going to get you there. I might take a little longer, right?
You're way longer, though.
Way longer.
Yeah, true.
God.
Yeah, but in five hours, they can get there in a minute.
Well, they've got impulse.
They're starting to move, and we cut inside the Rubicon, and they're still in the vents.
And because they've got impulse power now, those plasma vents are going to get dangerous.
And so the impulse walls start to power up.
You see this inside the little vent, this tiny little ship is going to be vaporized if they don't get out of there.
Uh-oh.
Yikes. And we see that they almost get fried, but Dax is like, you know what, we're out of time.
We have to open this the old-fashioned way. And she kind of backs the tiny ship up into this corner and blasts her way, like punches her way through a vent opening.
These doors fly open inside. A little hatch.
By the way, I think you do some very good flying in this episode, Terry.
I was really hoping Paris would be impressed.
Yes, I was very impressed.
I was.
You know, it's that dumb pride that you have, even though you didn't really do it.
Your character did.
And it's a TV show.
But I'm watching it going, look at what I'm doing.
I'm fabulous.
You like, you punch through that vent hat.
Then later on, you're going to fly through people's legs.
You're going to push buttons with the tiny thing.
Like, it's only beginning.
Oh.
And when we go straight down, I was thinking, oh, my word.
I just saw Bashir in my head like losing his cookies when we went straight down and we're swirling around.
Yeah.
Good flying.
Can I just tell.
Can I just tell both of you how silly my mind is when Terry said I was just hoping.
Thank you.
I was just hoping that Paris was impressed.
I kept thinking the city of Paris.
Why was she thinking about those guys being impressed?
Because honestly, I always think of Tom and Harry.
I don't think of him as Paris.
I say Paris as Harry, but when you referred to him as Paris, which you've never done before this moment, I was thinking, why did the French need to be impressed by her skills?
I don't get this, but okay.
They're not.
Yes.
Buenos Aires was very impressed with you.
I have the key to the city now.
Yes.
What is there?
He was very, that's very impressed.
She punches through, though, and then we cut inside the engine room.
where the hatch opens and the Rubicon shoots out.
There's just a little bit of plasma that comes out.
You just barely escape being fried.
I like the detail.
Yeah.
We see we see a fly around the warp core.
You notice through because the shutters are open now so you can see.
I can see that the warp core is offline.
Mm-hmm.
Yes.
The things that you bust out of, I'm pretty sure that doesn't exist.
They made it just for this episode alone
because to have something that opens up fold and it closes afterwards,
there's no purpose for that thing to be there.
Does that make sense?
Into the engine room.
No.
It's very dangerous.
That's so dangerous.
But it looked great.
And also the whole segment of you guys getting away from the flames at that point,
I thought visual effects did an amazing job at that.
It looked like a feature film.
It looked like a feature film.
It really did.
And yes, your piloting skills.
are amazing in Paris.
Thanks, physics, because it was all you.
Inside the Warp Corps area, we see Kira working, but she's working very slowly.
She's very calm.
Gamma number the second, our veteran Gemha-Hadar, says, show this guy how to do it.
You're taking too long.
And she goes, well, it's going to take longer if I try to train him.
and the second says, do it anyway and do it quickly.
And so she starts to explain.
She goes, okay, start by decoupling the lateral microbrice.
It's really like slow rolling.
She is milking it.
Inside the tiny ship, we see that they fly up right in front of somebody's face.
One of the Gemha-Dars face.
It's a cool shot, but I went, but dot, dot, dot,
like wouldn't he see you guys there?
Honestly, even how about our peripheral vision?
Yes.
You would definitely notice something the size of out.
It's like a hallmark ornament.
Isn't it like a or a kid's toy shuttle?
Or like a tissue box size?
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah, I thought they said it was smaller than a comm badge.
So it's going to, in theory should be pretty small.
It looks more than the com badge when it was flying around.
It looks like a hallmark Christmas ornament.
Or even bigger than that.
our child's toy.
Oh, you know what you're right.
I have one of those.
Now I know what you're saying.
But you still, I still think you'd notice.
Yeah.
Yes.
I mean, you notice a bug or something flying around, wouldn't you?
Yes.
I just made this realization.
Every time you see your shuttle, the tiny shuttle moving, they do put a sound behind there, right?
Do you guys notice that?
Yes.
That sound, if you listen to it carefully, I know exactly what that sound is.
It is the sound of a Prius or, sorry, a Tesla when it's, that, that a little,
Electrity kind of hum is it's a it's a very Tesla like electric car homing sound.
So that's our nitpick.
Yeah.
They would hear it.
They would hear it.
You can hear it.
And somebody would have seen it.
It's just really hard to believe.
You kind of have to buy that you guys that that that Dax is such a good pilot.
That's what it is.
She's so good.
She can just zip around and everybody misses.
It sure looked like it.
Yeah.
Well, our Jim Hidar misses the whole thing.
He thinks he imagined something.
and goes back to work.
And our tiny ship goes and flies up into some pipes.
Miles gets the sensors working so they can zoom in the view screen inside the tiny ship
and see that they can look at the plans that they're working on on the, you know,
the panels and the screens.
And they say, that's not going to work.
That's not going to get the warp core back on.
So we see that they're just doing busy work.
Right.
You know, now we're sure that they're not trying to get.
get the warp core back online. No. And also, is this a scene where O'Brien realizes he has to
go in? Yeah, he realizes Nog is trying to get these command codes, move from the bridge to the,
to the warp core room. To engineering. And to engineering, sorry. And it's not going to work. They're
not going to be able to get those command codes that way. So he's, yeah, O'Brien's like,
we've got to go to the bridge and release the codes so that they can drive, they can take
over here in engineering.
Yeah, because I think O'Brien says it's going to take him weeks to get the command
codes that way.
So they head off over the bulkheads and head towards the bridge, trying to find a way
to get out of this room.
And I love all these fly-around shots.
They're going between legs, by the tools.
It's so cool.
Yeah.
And we have to wait for someone to activate the door sensor.
Open a door.
Yeah.
Ix, our number two, our second, is.
getting very frustrated with Cisco here.
He knows he's stalling.
And if I had to like pick a smarter one, I would say that the second, the veteran guy, is
smarter.
Yes.
Yes.
He's right.
The alpha, this new guy is not as smarter.
He's an experience.
He's too pompous about everything.
He's just, you know, I'm the best.
Like a young person.
Yeah, like a young person.
You don't know anything better.
I know everything.
What do you know, old man?
He's literally.
Yeah.
He's like an 18 year old.
He totally is.
our second the veteran the smart one he orders them to change assignments he wants wharf moved to something else
and that's when the first comes in and is very impatient and cisco suddenly says you know it's the second
so he pits these guys against each other he's like the second is interfering and the first buys it
he buys it all and tells the second to stop interfering but he does give cisco a timeline here he says
you got 30 minutes.
30 minutes and no more.
I'm going to start executing people.
Not good.
No.
Not good.
Back in the tiny ship, they're waiting for the door to open, a way to get out of here
saying they can go to the bridge.
This is when they're hanging out by the tools and we see hands coming in, grabbing tools.
And I was like, how can they not see this tiny ship flying around every tool?
But it was cool looking.
It was.
It was super cool.
Right.
I just don't buy it.
There's like a second fourth wall.
Yes.
Fourth wall number two.
It's possible to look away and just grab for something knowing that's it.
Yeah.
All right, fine.
That's a valid nitpick.
They have very poor peripheral vision.
They're very poor.
The alpha quadrant Gemadar can't see much.
They can't see.
They're good at everything else.
Really close up things.
They can't see it off.
So distance they're good with.
well the guy grabbed some tools and I guess somebody opens the door and that's when the tiny ship the Rubicon slides through just in time.
Zippity-d-d-d-dye. Nice flying, Dax.
Good job. Thank you. I don't know. Tom could, could Tom have done? Yeah, I'm sure Tom could do that too.
Oh, definitely. Bershear says, nice bit of piloting and Dax says, well, if you like this, you're going to love what's coming up next.
And then they go to commercial. That is such an obvious.
like acts outlined.
You're going to love what's coming up next.
Don't change the channel.
You should have said.
Oh yes.
Don't change.
Of course.
Of course.
Rook the finger.
Or Dax, you could have said, if you like that, you're going to love what's coming up next after the commercials.
Just throw that in there.
Just hang on.
Don't leave us.
Don't leave us.
We'll be right back.
Go grab that beer.
We're in the engine room.
Cisco's having a little private chat with Nog here.
Nog is not having much luck.
And Cisco says, well, the backup plan is we're, I'll just destroy the ship.
We're not going to give them a warp capable defiant.
Yeah.
So that doesn't sound like a good solution.
No, because he's killing.
He's a sacrifice.
It's a suicide mission.
Yeah.
Can't do it.
No survivors.
And Kira agrees though.
I mean.
Yeah.
That easily.
It's better that we go with them.
Yeah.
They don't have a choice.
Yeah.
And there starts to lead off.
Officers, this is their job.
This is like having secret information.
Okay.
You know, high classified documents.
You can't let them go and survive it and not be in huge trouble.
So the assumption is that after the warp core is fixed, they are going to be executed, correct?
He doesn't he say at some point program in the control system so that, you know, if it goes to warp, it's self-destructs.
He says that at some point in the episode.
I just, yeah.
Yeah.
This is not a good.
Cisco's going to self-destruct this ship.
Not good.
He's not going to let them have it.
But he's the emissary.
He's the emissary.
Why would he do that?
I'm sorry.
I'm just being pulled.
It's the Starfleet side.
Is that what it's winning over?
It's the Starfleet.
He has to.
You can't.
Yes.
Yeah, but you are what the entire Bajoran people look towards as for guidance.
Well, right now he has to focus on the Starfleet classified information.
information that he has to protect.
Here's the thing, though, you guys.
We know that Avery Brooks is the captain in a series regular, and he's not going to die.
I get that, yes.
But first story will...
Well, that philosophy works only with the other characters.
Okay, let's go.
Outside in a corridor, Kodakatan thinks he hears something and he turns.
The Rubicon is flying, Terry, you're flying right behind his head as he walks down the corner,
making the test the electric car set.
Yes.
Yes.
But Kodakatan talks to this other Gemadar, Lumatakan.
Yeah.
Ah.
You said that at the first time.
Lumaticon says he took some initiative.
He fixed the tracking sensors.
And they both basically agree in this scene that alphas are the best.
We're the best.
We're super smart.
Oh, my gosh.
That's so true.
And now we're 18 again.
Yeah.
Which is funny because they're both like talking about how great they are and then they walk away and they never saw the Rubicon the whole time.
So it's kind of a funny.
It's right by the ceiling.
And it's upside down right over their heads.
Yes.
So they're not as smart as they think they are.
And I love this shot inside the Rubicon because it's an upside down shot.
Yes.
And is Bashir strapped in?
I don't know if they're strapped in.
He's got to be strapped in.
I don't remember seeing that if he's sitting down because I feel like he was always like kind of standing between us.
But he has to be.
Well, there's gravitational.
Like there's gravity sensors or whatever on the ship.
So I don't know that you need physical straps.
He's just got like.
Yeah, the ship.
It's technology.
Yes, exactly.
Yeah.
Okay.
But it would have been nice if their hair was like hanging upside.
Yeah.
That would have been cool.
Or my ponytail.
Yeah.
Just shooting like that.
Yeah.
Well, they're upside down and they're going to have to figure out a way to get inside
and have somebody open the door.
So off of that problem, we go to the engine room.
This is where Cisco secretly tells Worf to set the self-destruct, you know,
sub-processor or whatever.
Set the core to breach once the ship reaches warp one.
Right.
If they do figure out the.
warp drive, it's not going to work because it's going to self-destruct.
This is where we cut back to the Rubicon.
They're now hovering by the bridge control, fly slowly up to the buttons.
Dax has a funny joke.
Don't worry.
I have a very light touch.
And Bashir says, well, not according to the war.
He's very funny.
Very funny.
It was.
I don't know if it's like a Klingon joke or a sex joke.
I don't know, but it was funny to me.
to be a sex joke. But all you see is he turned to him like, really. Yes. Yes, because both of them
have been in the infirmary after, after Nookie to get patched up, right? So that's possible.
It's a Nookie. It's a nookie. Inside, she has a light touch on the buttons. They do go inside.
They open the door. And Jim Hedars, like, how did that door open? He goes to investigate.
Dax flies right between his legs and hides inside the bridge.
Oh, so good.
Yeah.
Inside the tiny ship, Miles says he can reroute the control lock manually,
but he'd have to go inside the circuit boards.
And Bashir says, well, we can't do that because we couldn't breathe.
The air molecules are going to be so big when Dax has an idea.
I like that detail.
Yeah, that's great.
Because when Bashir says that, I thought, oh, my God.
gosh, I never even thought about that.
Who would think of that?
Yeah.
Because, yeah, no one would think of that when you're getting impressed.
The air inside the shuttle is being compressed as well.
Well, yes.
Yes.
We don't think that about it.
And so gratefully, we have Bashir's big fat brain.
Yes.
It's coming in handy.
And Dax as well, because she says she can beam a bubble of this compressed air that he can
breathe, beam it in there ahead of you.
And it will expand to fill the housing.
So yeah, she's got a great idea.
And Bashir's like, or Miles is like, okay, I think that would work.
And then O'Brien says, okay, Bashir, you're coming with me.
So.
And then I thought, oh, my gosh, why isn't she sending two bubbles of air?
Because now this air is going to last less time because two of them are breathing.
Yeah.
Yeah, true.
That's true.
They don't have much time.
But she's sending some air in there.
That's when we cut inside.
I loved this when they went inside the circuit board, basically.
It was amazing.
That must have been a cool looking set.
So Alice in Wonderland, sci-fi style, Trek style.
Yes.
Yeah, I loved it.
Yeah.
They're inside this forest of circuit boards and chips and tubes and wires.
It's all enormous.
They're tiny.
Yeah.
And looking for the right chip.
They're looking for the thing to.
to manually override the circuits.
Bashir loves it.
He thinks it's like a forest.
He starts to touch one of the chips.
And that's when Miles literally saves his life.
He says, be careful.
Yeah, he almost sat down on a circuit breaker.
Yeah, he was trying to sit down.
It was like, don't sit on that.
We cut back to the bridge of the Defiant where the Gem had are working,
but they need to take a break for some white.
They've got to gather for, for, uh,
They're going to go smoke up there.
Just the way you said it, Robbie.
They're going to take some break for some white.
Just the way you said it was so funny.
We kind of intercut back and forth with the white ceremony and the circuit board.
They're losing oxygen in the circuit board area, trying to locate this interlink thing.
Dax says they better find it soon.
Back to the bridge.
The Gem Hadar opened the box.
hand out the white and the first guy.
Kudakatan.
He's not as like traditional as the old gamma guy.
He's like, you know what?
Our loyalty is demonstrated by our action, not our words.
We don't have to do the pledge of allegiance here.
Yeah.
With the white ceremony.
Which is all we've been used to.
The pomp and circumstance.
Let it go.
They recite that incantation practically before every thing.
But a small detail.
Yes, like a call, but small detail, which I want to give praise to the props department for,
is that the white is in a test tube that is sort of, it's not a perfectly, you know,
a string.
Cylinder.
Yeah, it's actually jagged.
It's got that little bend to it, which to me makes it more sci-fi.
I was like, oh, that's cool that they had that attention to detail.
That's cool.
Yeah.
Nice.
Well, back in the tiny world, we're back in the circuit board, Miles is starting.
to get confused. He's losing some oxygen. Bashir even says disorientations, one of the effects
of hypoxia, a lack of oxygen. So he gets him to focus and he talks about landmarks and starts
talking him through. So we see the teamwork in this scene, which is really good. Yes. And it's very
sweet. Sadeg was awesome in the scene, especially where he went to calm. Yeah. It was really,
it made me feel relaxed watching him do that.
Like, wow, if I'm ever in a pinch and having an anxiety attack,
I would really like sitting here for the only be right next to me.
Yeah.
He is very calming, isn't he?
He is.
He is.
Just his whole demeanor, his energy, it's wonderful.
Small nitpick here in this scene.
If they are losing oxygen, what no one has said, or the easy, easy solution is,
uh, Bashir to Dax, can you beam another little.
thing of oxygen in here because we're losing it.
And I didn't even think about that until now.
Bubble.
A bubble.
Give me a bubble.
Yeah.
We're in the engine room.
Nog has not gotten the codes yet.
Uh-oh.
And they've got trouble.
They're going to have self-destruct, basically, if he doesn't figure this out.
Back in this tiny world and the circuit boards, I love all these giant wires and circuits.
They were super cool.
And they finally figure it out.
They put the right cable in.
I loved the plugging in.
And O'Brien actually shoots a phaser to weld it into place.
They've done it.
The scene where the cord doesn't stay in and it falls down, that to me was kind of cute too, I thought.
Yeah.
Yeah, it was great.
When he first did the first one like you're talking about, I thought he didn't secure it because you could see this little.
piece right.
I was like,
oh,
that's not going to work.
I just went through that
with my,
changing my batteries
in my alarm system.
Right.
The alarm bell thing.
And I had to call them.
And all it was was apparently
I thought I had it on right,
but I went counterclockwise
instead of clockwise.
So it didn't lock in.
Oh my word.
Got to lock these things in.
You got to lock and load.
Yes.
Do you think that was a mistake?
mistake? No, it was scripted that way
to fall out, right? Oh, I think so.
100%. Yeah. Well,
in the engine room,
Nog realizes
he's got the codes.
But he says, I don't know exactly what
I did. He doesn't understand.
You didn't do anything. I don't know how, but
I released the command codes. I did it.
And Cisco's like, great work.
Now we just need a diversion.
And back in the runabout,
they see that Cisco doesn't know that he controls the defiant yet.
And we cut to the engine room.
Kudakatan is very angry.
The warp drive has been fixed for an hour, but they concealed it.
And so we realized, like, everybody's playing a game here.
You know, they're trying to hide from the Gem Hadar,
that they really can fix this warp drive much quicker than they did.
And they actually did fix it.
The first and the second start,
arguing again. Exanerox says,
you order me not to interfere.
Kudakatan says, okay,
let's go to warp. And Exanarok says,
you know what, hold on. Just one
more second. You should check for sabotage.
The first refuses.
And the door
opens, the tiny runabout
comes in, starts attacking,
shooting these Gemadar.
This tiny little ship
is shooting phasers.
The photon torpedoes is what they're shooting.
right? Oh, the photon torpedoes? Yeah. Oh, that's hilarious. But it's still, I'm wondering, like, how
effective is that torpedo if it's that tiny? Is it enough to kill them? But clearly it is, because they are
getting, they're taken out by that. That's a great fight sequence. It's a big fight sequence.
They're trying to shoot in this little tiny run about this tiny ship that's flying around.
They can't get it. After the fight is over and the good guys have won here, Cisco says he's going to flood the
other rooms, all the other Jim Hedar with anesthesine gas.
He says that the first should have listened to Exanerox.
And Extonarach says, no, I had to listen to the first.
He starts to repeat this, this mantra.
He brings victory and victory is.
And then he dies.
Which is great because he can't say the life.
He dies a while.
He's supposed to say life.
And it is a comedy this episode.
Yes.
It is.
And it ends with a very funny reunion of, of Wharf and Dax.
Yes.
Well, Sisko.
Mr.
Wharf, I think your wife is here.
Yes.
Yeah.
So cute.
And when you blow him a kiss, it reminds me of all the kisses you've blown to our
Patreon patrons, to our listeners.
And I will continue to.
So on this podcast, you've blown kisses the same way you blew kisses in this episode.
It's a me thing.
I love it.
But it's great because you see inside, you know, Wharf,
his camera's outside with Wharf,
and you see the tiny ship, you can see.
I can't believe we can see us.
Yes.
You can see that they did that.
Heck yeah.
It looks so good.
It looked great.
And then inside the tiny ship,
you see Worf's giant face-out.
Yes, I love that.
So, so cool.
Yes.
We're outside of DS9.
There's a captain's log where he talks about completing repairs,
and they were able to return to the anomaly and go take the path out that restored them to their
normal size and that all the Gem Hadar that survived were transferred to a Federation POW camp.
So the good guys won.
Tadda.
And we cut to Quarks where Dax wants to hear the poem that Worf wrote.
This is so cute.
I told him yesterday, I said, I just saw this scene.
of us. Oh my gosh.
It's super cute.
It's so good. Super cute.
He said he worked very hard and very long on this.
It's kind of what I say about my limericks.
It's a lie.
Yes.
And then he recites his poem, which is, this is a story of a little ship that took a little trip.
It's one verse.
That's it.
That's the whole thing.
It's so funny.
And I love how you look at his page.
and you're like, there's nothing there.
You just, yeah.
I try to, like, assess it too.
Like, oh, well, it rhymes.
Like, I don't want to make him feel bad.
Yes, yes.
But that was cute.
That felt very genuine between me and him.
Oh, definitely.
How often do you see Wharf smile?
Yeah, no, it was a very natural scene.
Yes, it was great.
Yeah.
We cut over to Miles and Bashir,
who were telling the tales of their adventure.
to some people at the bar.
When Odo comes in and he's studying them very closely
and then Quark sort of joins him.
And he basically says, you know,
you both look a little shorter than you were last time.
He says a changeling notices these things.
And then we see the Dabo girl stand up and she seems...
Who is my stand in?
Kathy DeBono.
Kathy de Bono.
Who like who else could wear that outfit?
Yes.
She's very tall.
Although she looks completely bored out of her mind.
Yes, with this story.
Yes.
And a bit of trivia, the usage of Kathy Dubono in that scene standing up straight to make it seem like they are shorter.
I guess she's a tall, tall woman.
That was not in the script.
So that was entirely.
That was entirely Alan Craker coming up with that idea, which is super cool that he did that.
Yeah.
And we're the same height.
Well, she's tall.
And then also Quark and Odo are standing up on a couple of stories.
steps.
Right.
So even though they're teasing them and they're probably not any smaller than they were,
but they're just doing this as a joke because doesn't Quirk say,
and they say you don't have a sense of humor.
I love that.
That just made it for me.
It's awesome.
But I also like Bashir's very simple when Quirk says, I didn't want to say anything,
but you do look a little on the petite side.
And Bashir just says, infirmary.
It is saying anything.
They're gone.
That to me.
Good writing.
Yes.
This is very funny.
Wow.
We did it.
Good.
That was a fun episode.
Let us talk about the theme lesson moral from this episode.
What would that be for you, Terry?
Farrow.
Nothing like what you guys wrote.
I wrote.
You must trust your team.
Oh, okay.
Great.
Yes.
trust your team and take a team yeah the whole team yes i like my theme my lesson is size is not that
important there you go yes you change the wording i i like it you're allowed you're allowed to you're
right these are notes these are just notes yes size is not that important um mine is no matter
our size we all have advantages no matter what size
you are. There's something that
because of that size that you are,
you can do that someone else cannot do.
Yes. Great.
I understand that. When women say to me
like, oh, I wish I could wear that.
You can wear that because you're so tall.
I said, but there's a lot of things I can't wear.
They look ridiculous on me.
That look amazing on you.
We have our Patreon poll winner for theme
slash lesson slash moral of this episode.
That's submitted by Martin de Plays.
And that is size doesn't determine.
impact resourcefulness and teamwork do.
Hey, it's kind of both of our themes, all of our themes put together.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I like it.
Very good.
I think it sounds closest to yours, Garrett.
Okay.
Very well said.
We have an honorable mention theme moral and that's submitted by Alex Ray.
Obedience to short-sighted leader does not bring victory.
Yes.
No, it does not.
Obedience to a short-sighted leader.
Okay.
That's all the Gemhidar names that I can't say.
Don't even try right now.
Let's not play in that park.
Xapa.
Xapa.
Xapa.
Kana Koon.
Well, that is it.

It does.
