It's not your fault, Tara.
It's just definitely the technology.
At least it's an episode I didn't really care for.
I had so many things to make you laugh today, though.
God dang it.
Okay, no worries.
I just wanted them to focus on the family story.
Yes.
And leave her alive so there's something to fight for or struggle for Jake to get up to her.
Anyway.
All right.
We'll jump into it and stay in touch about your internet.
Let us know when you get it fixed.
Okay.
Okay.

If you're a podcast host, listen up this one's for you.
My name is Allie Jackson.
I'm the host of Finding Mr. Haidt, a dating and relationship podcast that I've been doing for
four years now, sharing my positive and practical approach to dating that's built on my own
life experience.
And I wanted to share another experience that I've had, my secret behind monetizing my show.
It's called Red Circle.
And I was just telling my colleague about how much I love their platform.
With Red Circle, not only am I getting a seamless hosting experience.
experience, but I also love the support I receive in ad sales. It's not just typical ad sales either.
It's targeted opportunities based on my show and my life. And the platform is super simple. You just
set your preferences and Red Circle matches you with sponsors that align with your show. You can
vet every opportunity and their platform gives you great analytics. More recently, too,
my Red Circle team has brought me opportunities outside of my podcast on social media.

enough. If you want to give it a try, go to Red Circle.com to get your free try.
That's red circle.com for a free trial.
All right, let's jump right into this.
Poetry synopsis.
Let's hear that limerick, Robbie McNeil.
Yes, sir.
Here we go.
My limerick for the episode, Shattered Mirror.
Jennifer Sisko shows up from the mirror side.
Jake returns with her and Ben follows.
This will be a bumpy ride.
Smiley runs Terak Knorr, Wharf is ready for war, family feelings in any timeline are verified.
Oh, very nice.
Yeah, thank you.
Yeah, that one worked well.
Yeah, it flowed well.
It got a lot in there, so.
I got my flow on today.
Yeah, you get your flow on today.
You didn't criticize yourself beforehand.
Sometimes you'll do that.
You're like, this is the worst.
I know it is.
I didn't really do it so well.
I don't know why.
This one flowed.
This one flowed very well.
Can I just say right now doing this without Terry, I feel like we're in a library right now.
I know, we're going to be extra quiet or something right now.
Okay, here's my haiku for Shattered Mirror.
Jake's gone.
So Ben goes, mirror defiant, fine-tuned.
Jen becomes a mom.
Ooh, yes.
Nice.
Not bad, huh?
Very poetic hypoena.
Not bad at all.
Thank you. I'm proud of that one.
Written by Iris, Stephen Bear, and Hans Beimler.
I just love that name.
It's so German and so Hans Beimler, and I want to say it.
It sounds like a Will Ferrell character in some comedy.
It could be.
It could be.
I could see Will Ferrell playing the character of Hans Beimler.
Yeah.
Or Hans Beimler could be the captain of a Panzer unit doing World War II.
I mean, yes.
All right.
Directed by James Conway, your good friend who you play golf with.
guest stars Felicia M. Bell as Jennifer Sisko, Aaron Eisenberg as Nog, Carlos Carrasco as officer, special guest star, Andrew Robinson as Garrick, and co-stars James Black as Helmsman and Dennis Matalone as Guard. There you go. Yes. Dennis had some lines in this episode. I don't think he ever had lines on Voyager. Very rarely. Did he have a line on Voyager? No. He only did stunts. I don't recall. I bet he did have a line. This is a
question for the fans.
Yes.
Prove us wrong.
Change our mind.
Tell us.
Tell us what you know.
The mirror universe version of Worf makes his very first appearance in this episode.
Yeah, I didn't remember.
I was thinking that when I watched it.
I was like, oh, we've seen the mirror universe, but we never saw Worf.
It happened before Worf.
That's right.
That's right.
Okay.
This is the only episode in DS9's Mirror Universe arc where Sirak Lofton appears.
Thank goodness.
This episode establishes that Jake was.
never born in the mirror universe, which I thought
was actually established in a prior episode, but maybe
this is where they actually say it.
They explicitly say it.
Because Nog doesn't know him.
No. He's like, there's no mirror
Nog and Jake. Yeah.
Which was a bit, you know,
it hurt my soul a little bit. Yeah.
I didn't like that. Dennis Badlon
makes his third appearance as the Terran marauder.
Shifty one eye is what we can call him.
We also learned that he's a widower.
It was a very sympathetic character.
It was.
We felt bad for him.
And this episode does mark the very last appearance of any version of Jennifer Sisko.
No more Felicia.
Well, yeah.
Spoiler alert, but she does die in the end.
Although it's not explicitly, I mean, I guess it's clear because, you know, her hand goes limp and then they hug and stuff.
Sorry, we're jumping to the end of this story.
True.
But it's not, no one says it.
No one says it.
Well, when we get to the scene, I'll tell you my thoughts on that.
So there could be a Jeffrey Combs reanimator kind of thing happening.
Well, you never know.
We'll see.
Each of the actors who portrayed Mirror Universe characters had their own unique perspectives
on how they differed from their counterparts.
For an instance, I just want to quickly read this for you.
Yeah.
Nunavisitor says of the intendant.
She and Kira are exactly the same person.
but the intendant's ego has been warped
so that everything that Kira would do for her people,
the intendant does for herself.
She's self-serving with a capital S.
That's what Nanah said about her character.
Interesting perspective, yeah.
Interesting way to look at it.
For sure.
Alexander Siddig says of his married universe counterpart,
I want him to be the inverse of Dr. Bashir,
like a doppelganger,
the animus to his anima.
Bashir wouldn't hurt a fly,
But this guy is unstable, difficult, and stupid.
His description is the best.
And he's got a lot of hair.
He's got a big hair.
Oh, my gosh.
Colomini says of Smiley,
I picture him as being a bit dirty and scusier than the regular O'Brien,
just because of what he's had to go through.
He's a trickster, and there's something sort of seedy about him.
Miles, on the other hand, is straight as an arrow.
and fine yeah that's true i felt like i felt like uh colomini really enjoyed the smiley character
like it fit him almost more comfortably than the straight arrow maz o'brien it's closer to
smiley is a little more scrappy it's closer to colomini the person the actor the kid a little bit of
attitude it seemed very comfortable for him Aaron Eisenberg says of nog and this is my favorite quote
he was obnoxious and rude
so I played him like an edgy quark
like an edgy cork
I miss Aaron
also I don't know if you know this
but Aaron Eisenberg
a trained martial artist himself
was allowed to do his own stunt for this episode
according to Dennis Madelone
I'm thinking about that scene where he's
Well he came in
There was no cut
There was no cut there so
Wow good
So that's good.
Good for Aaron.
Due to the violent scenes in this episode,
this was the second episode to receive a 15 certificate in the UK.
As mentioned last week, we talked about that.
The previous episode, Hard Times, was the other.
So this one in Hard Times.
Got it.
Got it.
All right.
Let's jump right at this.
Jumping in, we start in the promenade.
We tilt up off the promenade lower level to the upper level.
Poor Jake is all by himself.
Yeah.
He's just kind of watching.
sort of moody, seems lonely to me.
Odo passes, and in his Odo way, he tries to be friendly,
makes him small talk.
Jake thinks that Odo's trying to get him to leave,
and Odo's like, no, what are you talking about?
I'm not trying to get you to leave.
That's how I would feel if Odo came up to me
with his curt, cold sort of gruff attitude.
I'd be like, I'm sorry, what did I do?
Exactly.
And Jake's like, well, you always,
used to chase me away.
And Odo says, no, no, no, no, no.
I never chased you away.
I chased gnaug.
He was throwing peas.
Didn't he say something like...
Sand peas, yeah.
Sand peas.
Tossing peas on people.
On people.
Oh, the little practical joker.
Quark does show up, though.
Quark comes over and says that Jake's been there
four or five times a day hanging out.
So clearly Jake is lonely.
He's missing his friend.
He's feeling like disconnected.
Anyway, Jake, Jake leaves in a huff.
And then Quark and Odo have a little conversation, which I thought was very ironic,
talking about friendships and Cork's like better not to have any friends.
Right.
Which I think is ironic since he and Odo are the Bickersons who are actual friends.
They are.
Even though neither one of them will admit it.
No, never.
But they are the Bickersons.
Yep.
Well, Jake heads back to his quarters, walks in, calls for dad, looks over,
and there is Jennifer Sisko.
Mom?
We come back.
Of course it is mirror, Jennifer.
Jake is amazed, though.
He's like very happy.
He's like a very childlike, I thought.
Yeah.
I thought Sirak was his energy.
As usual, his energy is just so open and warm.
And he's very happy to see.
who looks like his mother.
We do find out in the scene
that Benjamin, Cisco
has filled him in on the mirror universe.
So he does know about Jennifer.
He knows about the Terran rebels.
He knows all about the mirror world.
He does.
And I just want to say right off the bat,
it's a pleasure to see Sirak in an episode.
And it's just so rare,
so many episodes he's not in.
And I just feel that if he was inserted
into at least half of the episodes that he was not in.
It would have made a better episode.
That's all.
He always brings such good energy and he's really good.
Well, Jennifer does tell us in this scene that the Taron rebels have won some big battle
that they control Terek Knorr, which is the mirror space station.
And then Cisco gets a call from Kira.
Got to meet the minister.
He's just docked and he doesn't have much time.
So Jennifer says, hey, I'll stay with Jake.
Maybe we can all have dinner together.
And Ben's like, sure, I'm going to head to see the minister.
Which I immediately thought, this is dangerous, dude.
Like, you're the dad.
And you've just, your son, your young teenage son just walked in to see his dead mother.
And you're like, all right, peace out.
What?
I feel like it's spoken like a true dad because you,
are a dad you understand exactly the dynamic that's going on here so there's so many triggers like
this is a dangerous you almost need like a therapist to engage this like yeah yeah the way they
they sell that to the audience is that in this scene you see that Ben Sisko has a bit of a crush
on mirror universe Jennifer because remember when he leaves he does that super awkward like
goofy 15-year-old boy stare at his, you know, not real wife, Mary Universe wife,
as he's leaving the room. So I felt like, okay, that's the way they're going to sell this,
you know, but you're right. Any parent would be like, really, is this the right move? Probably
not. It's very dangerous. Yeah. He's clearly got a crush on her, I think. And for him to leave,
to me, just seems irresponsible. So immediately, I was a little questioning this story, to be
honest, but he does. He leaves. And we cut to the, to the ops and we see the minister leaving. So
some time has passed. It's the end of a three-hour meeting. This is all a oner, by the way.
Is it? Yeah, it's all a oner. The shot starts outside. The group passes. It pushes inside the
door. And Kira says, you know, great meeting. And Cisco basically says, I got someone waiting in
my quarters. I got to go. It's a nice oneer. Good job. Good job.
Jim Conway. We like it.
Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
That's a long meeting, though.
Three hours.
It was three hours. He's been gone.
Yeah.
And then he comes back into his quarters.
He walks in. Jennifer? Jake?
Nobody's there.
Yeah.
Ask the computer locate him.
Jake's not on the station.
And he finds this tool sitting there.
This like this transport.
Is that a spy glass?
It looks like a spot, like a kaleidoscope.
to me it looked like the handle
of a lightsaber from Star Wars
Yes
Okay it is it's a lightsaber
So they left
What a great Easter egg that would have been
Just leave a light saber
Leave the lightsaber right there
Hey
Look who we have
Well well well well
What a surprise
Am I freezing?
No
You guys are frozen
You're freezing again
Are you guys
No you're not
You're freezing that much, though.
I think you're good.
Should we try?
Let's try.
We're just going to...
It's freezing.
We'll try.
Why don't we just keep talking the next scene?
Oh, no, I can't hear you.
No.
Yeah, it's frozen.
It's not good.
I refresh my Zoom link.
Yeah.
I mean, I...
Oh, it's so sad.
Okay.
You're going to have to drop out.
Is that it?
I think we tried.
Yeah.
We tried.
Oh my gosh.
We tried.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
We gave it the college try.
We love you.
I love you guys.
Thank you for trying so hard.
I love you too.
Bye, hon.
Okay.
Bye.
Say how to gym.
We will.
Okay.
Where are we, Robbie?
We're at the empty.
He comes back in, the lightsaber.
We were talking about that.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
It should have been a lightsaber, yes.
Okay.
So now we're in ops, and we've got Star Wars on this podcast now, which is awesome.
We're in ops now, and basically Captain Cisco was explaining to everyone what's going on.
He's like, this is the invitation to get back there.
Kira suggests, hey, I'm going to come with you.
And he goes, okay, so the away team.
It's going to be O'Brien, Kira, and myself, let's go.
Let's energize.
But guess what?
Only Cisco beams out.
The other two are stuck.
I didn't know you can stop a beam.
I didn't either.
You can suppress a beam.
How did they do that?
Is suppressing a beam like suppressing when you're going number one at the bathroom?
Because like you can't really do that, right?
You can't stop.
Once the P starts.
Once the P begins, it ain't going to stop.
So once the beam, the transporting begins, shouldn't that keep going?
Should we have a warning at the beginning of this podcast that there,
There will be bathroom talk.
There will be bathroom talk.
I said number one.
But I know, you did.
But I don't know how it's never explained how they rigged the thing.
This is another bump for me.
It's a huge bump.
We've never seen that, Robbie.
And any Star Trek we've ever produced or been a part of or anything.
No.
It's a weird one.
But it's cool.
It's cool.
You see them all start to go half.
go and then Cisco disappears and then they go right back so it's like they were
they got the heisman they were repelled backwards right it's like held back yeah but we cut
into the tarignore ops from a different angle now you know uh that was a smart thing jim did he was
beam them out from a front angle and then beamed Cisco in from the back angle yeah to show the
differentiation between the two yep good job Cisco beams in but all by himself and they're
smiley welcoming him back and cisco's like i'm just here to get jake and get out of here and smiley says no
i'm not possible sorry yeah jake's not leaving and neither are you and some guards come in they
disarm him welcome back captain not nice no no then we go in the intendant's office which now
smiley's the boss of smiley sitting in the in the captain's chair
he explains that they have the station now the rebels have taken it but they need cisco's help that's
why they kidnapped jake to lure him to lure benjamin cisco over there yeah he explains that they've
got the defiant that somehow he downloaded the files when he was visiting ds9 the last time
and they've built it they built the defiant the rebels have got one but they need cisco to stabilize
it because it keeps the the hull or something keeps shaking too much whenever they power it up yeah and they've
got four days and Cisco's like
oh yeah I did that that happened to us we fixed it
and he's like smile is like
how long did that take and
Cisco says two weeks
so we already know
classic track we don't
have two weeks we've got four days
yeah
oh my goodness and then Captain
Bashir arrives
with his wig
oh my gosh what a wig
and he's grumpy
he's grumpy
he's grumpy right
out of the gate.
Super grumpy.
With that line where someone goes like,
we've got plenty of captains here.
Everyone's a captain.
Yes, it's very funny.
It's so funny.
He does punch Cisco in the scene.
He says, I owed you that one because I let you punch me last time when I thought you were captain.
So now we're even.
Very funny.
The more I think about Captain Bashir, I just think of the way he comes off to me, it just
he's a drunk.
He just comes off someone who's completely a drunk pirate, exactly.
Who needs to use some hair conditioner.
He needs a good conditioner.
How about who needs a haircut?
How about just to get a haircut?
He doesn't even.
What is that?
It's like a stringy mop.
It was like a stringy mop on his head.
It really was.
They did not blow the budget on that wig.
You know what?
Wigs in the 90s.
Robbie,
wigs in the 90s were not that good.
First Captain Janeway wig,
horrible.
You saw every,
oh, bad, bad, bad.
So I think maybe, yeah, you're right.
they saved money they saved money on that way they had the technology to make a really good one but
they yeah they didn't go with that okay well we go to we go to quarks quarks on tarak nor yeah mirror
mirror quirks and nogg runs the place here oh my gosh and uh nog is talking he goes we can't
basically saying to jake we can't be friends you're too tall i don't like tall people
i don't trust tall people but he goes tall women yeah yeah sorry tall women are fine
yes then he offers jake a tall woman one of the dabo girls like he he jake's good with that
jake's good with it and jennifer's like uh slow down she's a little old for you which is funny
because the parallel yeah right when cisco was upset that jake was with the dabbo girl on
ds nine saying she's a little too old for you now now the mirror universe mom is saying that about
a dove a double girl here in this reality that's great yeah um Cisco does arrive he finds Jake
and Jake explains look I really wanted to see the other side with Jennifer you know I've been
sharing my life with with Jennifer and um she feels it feels like mom's alive again basically
and uh Cisco's trying to pump the brakes he's like you know don't make any plans sounds like
you're trying to make plans and
Cisco is trying to stop it.
And then he says to Jennifer,
outside, please.
So all that romantic feelings
he had in the first scene?
The puppy love is gone.
Poppy love is, it seems gone.
Seems gone.
Yes.
They step outside.
She admits it was her idea.
Cisco's mad, though.
He says that she is nothing like his wife
and she's nothing like Jake's mother.
You are nothing like her.
He's very defensive of his
real-world wife.
He does agree to help them, though,
and he just says, I'll help you, but leave my son alone.
And then this is when we hear Jake from inside go,
Jennifer!
She goes, fine, I'll leave him alone, but he's not going to leave me alone,
which was cute.
That was a good impersonation of Jake that you just did when you called to her.
Yeah, it was dead on, buddy.
Good job.
Yeah.
We go to the Klingon Bridge next.
And first we see the Klingon ship from outside.
It is the biggest Klingon ship I've ever seen in my life.
How is that even possible?
I don't know.
I've never seen it looks like a, it's like a death star.
It's huge.
You know what it looked like?
Because it showed, and the reason why we're saying it's huge is because you see
reference with the other bird of praise that are around it, which are tiny.
It looked like the Klingon ship looked like a modern day cruise ship and everything else
looked like little dinghies next to it.
It was like, what is happening?
I didn't even know.
It was enormous.
Massive.
Enormous.
Yeah.
We cut inside to the bridge, though.
It starts with Garrick being led in with a collar, like a, almost a dog collar and a chain.
Yeah, very reminiscent of Star Wars when Princess Leia is held by Jabba the Hut, and she has the same chain and neck collar.
Manichael irons.
A lot of Star Wars references in this episode.
Oh, my gosh.
We got the lightsaber's death stars.
Garrick is Princess.
Leah, basically.
Yeah.
Okay.
But we do reveal Wharf, mirror Wharf, for the first time.
The regent.
He is the regent.
I am the regent.
He blames Garrick for losing Teraknora, basically.
Yeah.
He says, you are the only officer who escaped, the rebel takeover, and you're going to suffer the
consequences of losing it.
And Garrick, in his own charming way, tries to charm Worf.
I'm here to be of service.
you know yes he also tries to throw the intendant under the bus the entire time too oh that's true
that's true and he tries to charm him and uh but warf says you're going to stay in chains until
every single rebel lies dead at my feet so we see we're kind of setting up the stakes here
continuing we go to the defiant bridge uh we do see outside of the defiant at first and we see
the there's scaffolding and all this construction so they're still clearly working hard on the
defiant. Yes. And they've only got four days, as we know. Cisco's leading some improvements.
Miles is in the engine room. So it seems like Smiley and Cisco are working together.
Yes. We're establishing that Cisco isn't fighting with Smiley anymore. They're on the same team.
He's going to help him out. Nice, nice angle of the engine room, by the way, with Miles in there.
I thought it was some good angles that Jim did in this episode. He really did. It's a good looking, it's a
looking episode i i it is yep um back on the defiant bridge though dax arrives walks up to
cisco and slaps him oh love it basically she says that's for making love with to me under false
pretences i was suspicious of you from the start i've forgotten about that i'd forgotten that
mirror. Cisco and mirror Dax had a romantic. How did you forget that? I forgot and the slap reminded
me. There was a joke in the scene where she says something like, if you ever touch me again,
she holds the knife up to him. And she goes, do you get my point? Oh. And he says, I hope not.
That was the worst dad joke. It was so cheeseball, that joke. I
I groaned. I did not laugh.
I didn't even catch that. It was completely over my head, but you got it.
Good. Do you get my point? I hope not.
That was close to your real freakosaurus.
Yes, that was a freakosaurus level, bad joke.
All right. In a corridor, though, we hear some screaming. We run outside.
There's Bashir, Captain Pirate Bashir, zapping Kira with a remote control Z
zapper, the attendant, the intendant. Yeah, he's just got like a clicker, like a garage door opener,
and he's zapping her. She's suffering. I just like your description. A remote control zapper.
I like that. Yeah. We learned she tried to escape, and Cisco defends her. He says, you know,
there's a difference between interrogation and torture. This is not okay. Yeah. That was nice.
And then Kira gets up really close to Cisco and whispers, help me escape and I'll make it up to you or
something like that.
Cisco standing up for
intended, I was going to say that's
very humanitarian of him, but
in reality, should I be saying
that's very pejoritarian
of him?
It is very big.
Majoritarian? Okay.
Yes. Add that to the
Trek Dictionary, people. Please.
Okay. She does get
very close, you know,
offers to, you know, do anything
he wants if he'll help her
escape. And he's like, nope. No. I did
like as she's dragged away, she
asked, can I get my masseuse,
please, basically.
I know.
Marani, yeah, my servants.
Yeah. What is going, is this where
Dax shows affection to
Bashir in this scene? I think there's a little
bit of a hint of that relationship in
this scene. Okay.
Which is all, by the way, this, you know, the mirror
universe has a lot of sexual innuendo
and a lot of
right. Oh, yes there is. Everybody's
like talking about
Romance and not even romance. Let's just call it what it is.
Can I just read a Jim Conway quote right here? It says of the mirror universe.
It's dark and sexy and there's no subtlety over there.
No. No, there is not. We go to the Klingon Bridge. Klingons detect the defiant.
They are, you know, sending out some sensor readings and they do detect the defiant.
Garrick suggests that they increase their speed to warp nine.
he says just trying to help yeah and wharf does not want to hear his suggestions
um and uh and then garrick says i was just trying to be of service you know uh with the
intendant i pleased her very much and this is a this is an odd kind of out of left field to me
garrick sort of trying to seduce or offer his body to wharf and wharf literally says you're not
my type did you catch that yeah i did yeah i did yeah i
He's like, wow, that's really interesting.
But I did like at the end of the scene how warped,
even though he told him to shut up and be quiet.
He's like, okay, increase speed to warp now.
He does what Garrick says.
He does what Garrick says anyway.
Okay, we're in, I guess, Jennifer's quarters.
Guess what, Jake has cooked.
He's cooked chicken al-a-sisco.
Jennifer loves it.
It's delicious.
She doesn't understand.
She wants to know, did you learn how to cook like this?
Jake says, well, the Cisco men all have a cooking gene.
It's genetics.
Cisco arrives.
Cisco is very tired.
Yes.
Too tired to eat.
Jake offers to clear the table and he steps out.
And then Cisco's sitting down and kind of rubbing his head and Jennifer comes over and
starts massaging him.
And he's very suspicious.
He's like, what do you want basically?
What do you want trying to trick me again?
And she goes, no, you know, I just wanted you to know you've done a really good job raising
your son. Yeah. And she admits in the scene that she has feelings for Jake and for Ben too,
that she's, you know, this is bringing out her maternal and, you know, she lost her husband in
the mirror universe. And that's right. And she feels like that Jake and, and Benjamin Cisco are a
son and a family that she'll never have. So she's kind of vulnerable there. Yeah. And then
smiley arrives, says the alliance is less than eight hours away.
Looks like they've run out of time.
And that's when we cut into the engine room.
They're kind of, they're huddling to try to figure out what to do.
Dax says, we need to buy some more time.
Bashir brings up these torpedoes that they can't put into the Defiant yet.
He's got all these torpedoes ready to go.
Dax and Bashir are very swashbuckling these two.
They're like lots of sexual innuendo, lots of pirating pirate vibes from them.
And Bashir says, I'm going to help out.
I'm going to buy you some more time.
We don't know exactly what he's going to do, but he and Dax, the pirate couple,
are going to take their torpedoes and go do some business.
I love it.
I just want to say, I don't even, I think when I was watching, this scene just, it completely
did not happen for me.
Oh, really?
Yeah, I feel like it's skipped over.
I watched this on the plane flying over here.
Well, they were trying to figure out what to do.
Bashir says, Bashir and Dax are like,
we can buy you more time, we've got torpedoes,
and then we cut in the holding cell.
And Kira's basically laughing at Cisco,
you know, mid-conversation.
Cisco said, we need your help.
And Kier's like, that's hilarious.
You think I'm going to help you?
Kira's blaming Garrick for all of this.
Cisco says to her, well, you know,
Garrick's probably blaming you.
You're blaming him.
He's blaming you to Wharf.
And Warf is going to want to take
out revenge on you. And he says, tell me some weaknesses. Help me out. So she reluctantly sort of
says, yes, there may be some weaknesses, but, you know, let me out and I'll help you. And he
eventually gets her to admit that their targeting systems can be fooled and that these targeting
systems that Wharf has and that Klingons have will chase warp shadows. So you can trick them
with your censors, your sensor readings.
Cisco to me is someone who has a black belt in mental martial arts.
He is able to get anyone to, you know, persuade people to give up information, just help
him out, all because he knows how to kind of, you know, do that little thing where he pushes all
the right buttons, you know.
Yes.
He's a mind ninja.
He's a mind ninja.
We go to the Klingon Bridge.
Garrick is being tossed around like a rag doll here.
Oh, my gosh.
And I think Andrew Robinson did some of these stunts himself.
Not the first one.
That must have been a double because it was a big throw.
But after that, he was being dragged around, tossed around.
Wharf wants the key to the collar, which makes no sense to me.
It's like, why is that so important?
The thing's already on him.
Are you taking it off?
Well, even Garrick says like, why would I?
I, where would I go?
Even if I had the key and I could unlock myself.
I'm on a, I'm on the regent's massive, massively huge Klingon ship.
How am I going to, I could probably hide because it's so big, but I'm not going to get away from anybody.
Yeah, this isn't an odd scene to me because Worf seems to want this key so badly.
Yes.
But yet, Garrick is locked in the thing.
It doesn't matter.
And he wants it so badly, he ends up stabbing Garrick with his dagger.
Yeah.
And then the sidekick goes, oh, sir, I found the key in my shoe.
Yeah.
I found it in my shoe.
Here's the key.
Yeah, it was really just almost Monty Python-esque to me.
It was like, I mean, I guess it does, it does show that Wharf is willing to kill somebody.
Okay.
You know, it shows that this is bad, bad Worf.
Mirror Wharf.
Evil Wharf, yeah.
Yeah.
But the way it, I don't know.
The stab was, to me, it didn't even
It was so subtle
That I know he went
But it doesn't even, I don't know
And then he walked out
So he wasn't, yeah, was he really hurt?
Was he really stabbed?
It was it a minor stab?
I don't know.
Well, they pick up six Raider shuttles on their way
So watch out.
Battle will ensue
With the fake warp signatures?
That's what they're going on, right?
Yeah.
We cut into the Rebel Raider.
There's pirate Dax and pirate Bashir
emitting fake warp signatures.
Do you like Pirate Dax's overall look?
I do, yeah.
I do too.
The short hair and everything.
It's a business cut.
She's ready to just take care of business.
I like that cut.
It does work.
The Klingons chase the fake signatures and off they go.
We come back to Conduit Junction and Cisco's working.
He's tired.
He's been working hard to get this defiant working.
He's working on.
internal dampers but he says Jennifer shows up he says I could use a pair of smaller hands
and so she jumps in and takes over and admits that she truly cares about Jake and she wants him
safe and she's going to take him back to DS9 and keep him safe yeah and she says you want to
say goodbye I'm going to take him back and Cisco's like no just tell him I'll see him back at
station. What? He may never see his son again. He's in a mirror universe about to be in the
middle of a battle. Like to me, that was just, yeah. I didn't buy it. No. Why would you? Nah, I don't
want to take a bite to my son, who I may never see again, who I've spent four and a half
years saying is the most important thing to me in my life. I mean, I'm guessing Sarac is of age at this
point, right? He's not, uh, you know, when you're younger than 18, you can't film a certain
number of hours or maybe, I don't know. It just, it doesn't make sense. Yeah. It seems like he would
wanted to say goodbye. Yeah. She does admit here that, uh, you know, uh, I really, we had a connection
before, before this, before I had to trick you with your son and all this. We had a connection.
Don't forget. Yeah. And he says, nah, maybe it was never real. So I felt bad. He's,
He's mad at her.
And then she says, I better go get Jake home.
Now we're back on the Terek Knorr promenade.
Jake's on the railing, just like that first scene, but in the mirror universe.
Yeah.
And Nog comes out of quark and is just super rude to him.
Yeah.
And basically, Jake's like, fine, I'm out of here.
You're a jerk.
Nog's like, great, get out of here.
I just, the scene made me sad.
I didn't like seeing Jake.
I know.
And Jennifer actually shows up.
at the end of the scene, she's like, hey, Jake, I need to talk to you in private, which I'm not
sure what was so personal that she had to talk in private, or was it just that she was getting him
off the station?
Yes, that's what I read.
That was it?
Yes, that's the way I understood it to be.
It kind of sounded like, I need to talk to you about something meaningful.
It's vague, isn't it?
Yeah.
You're not sure.
Yeah.
All right.
Next scene is in the holding cell.
It starts on Kira's feet.
It pans up her body to give us a.
sexy you know it's like jim said the mirror universe is sexy and dark and yeah seductive and
mysterious yeah but i think the pan up was because she's about to flirt with dennis madeline
oh it was kind of setting up the tone of her attitude of yeah seductive that she's trying to seduce
him but dennis madeline uh it's like you killed my family why would i yeah why would i want to be
seduced by you.
Dennis Madelone's line.
He says, he says,
you sentence my wife to death.
And Kira goes, isn't that a coincidence?
I was hoping you weren't married.
I thought that line.
Yeah, she was hilarious.
She's still trying to flirt with him.
It goes over her head that he could be mad.
Yeah, it's like, oh, yeah.
It's all about her.
Well, Nog arrives.
He's got this fake dinner.
He uses the plate in the trade and knock out Dennis,
Dennis Madelone with two quick hits.
Nog has learned some skills.
He's got moves.
And as we spoke of earlier, this is Aaron Eisenberg in his martial arts training and
doing this stunt all by himself, which is great.
And Nog thanks Kira for killing his father and uncle, because now he owns the bar.
Right.
Very pharynge of him.
Yes.
Very harsh.
Yes.
But he frees Kira, breaks her out, out of her prison cell.
and as they're leaving there's a big boom
we cut to the defiant we realize that
the battle is just about to begin and smile he says thanks cisco
you've done what you know we asked what we agreed on thank you you're a man of your word
a man of my word get out of here go back to your son
and as cisco's walking out the door he pauses turns around
and decides to stay for the battle and i was like again i'm like
what yeah what who do you care more about jake or these mirror people that you have no investment
in whatsoever really i call bull crap oh he just felt bad he just knew he knew that he knew
how to pilot that defiant they couldn't do it without him which is probably true so his principles
took over it was like okay i can't leave these people like this i just think those decisions in this
episode were too easy. And if he's going to decide to do that,
I agree. Be like a conversation. Of course. But there wasn't enough time to put that in
because they had to have the longest battle scene ever in Star Trek. Yeah. I wish they had
had that scene instead. I would have liked to have seen him. Would have been great. Yeah.
Figure out, you know, struggle with those decisions rather than just...
Agreed without saying, hey, I'm just going to fight with the gang that I don't even know. I met him
Yesterday.
Yeah.
We cut into a corridor, Kier is on our way out, and Nogg says, good luck.
I won't tell anyone.
And then she turns around and says, Nog, and he turns, and she shoots Nog.
From a distance.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, Nog, a little bit of trivia.
Nog is the third Frangy to die in the mirror universe.
Cork was killed by Garrick in the episode crossover, and Rom was killed by the intendant in the
episode through the looking glass. So there we go. And as we've already mentioned, yeah, that's why
he has the bar. But it's just so sad. That is sad. So there's no Ferengis left. There's no
Ferengis left. They should have left Naga live. Dead kidding. We go to another corridor. Jake's
walking with Jennifer. She says, you know, it's better if I just stay here. Jake wants her to come
back to DS9 with him. Of course he does. Well, Kira arrives, bumps into them in the corridor.
She's got her weapon pointed at them.
And she says, Jennifer, you look as beautiful as ever.
More seduction.
She can't stop being seductive.
I'm sorry.
The mirror people, they need to like take some pills.
Take a chill pill with this.
All the sex talk.
Seduction.
Jeez.
Um.
Jeez, people.
Okay.
on the defiant we're on the defiant bridge yeah clingons are concentrating on the station um and the
defiant flies through you know is flying around the station trying to protect it cisco yells to
smiley he says pattern delta miles is like what are you talking about what is that what is a pattern delta
so cisco walks him through all the moves you know go right go left and it works and then smiley says
that was great i have to remember that one which i thought was a funny it's very funny comic bit
oh my god pattern delta he has no clue what that is yeah he has no clue but he likes it he likes it
all right so we go to a uh a corridor and kira says jennifer will get her safely to wharf
and uh make a great gift for him and jennifer says okay fine but just leave the boy
and kira's cure kira is curious the intendant i keep calling her
Kira, but it's the intendant, right?
Yeah, Kira is curious.
I love it. Kira is curious.
Yeah. The intendant
is curious about why she's
so passionate about this boy.
And she does say,
again, seductively,
you know, this passion gives you a lovely
glow.
She goes to shoot Jake.
The intendant goes to shoot Jake.
Jennifer jumps in front, takes the shot
herself, and then Kira's about to
shoot Jake and says, hey, why
why is she protecting you and Jake admits
because she's my mother
and Kira gets it or the intendant gets it
and she's like okay
okay you tell your dad that I could have killed
you but I didn't and he owes me a debt
he owes me and I'm going to collect
that's a sexual debt I'm sure
of course it's the intended
everything is sexual
we go to the defiant bridge
the shields are down smiley
says we should get out of here we should
run. Cisco's like, no, we should run right at it.
Yeah, we should run right at it.
Yes. And O'Brien has a bit of a dad joke. Ah, patterned suicide. Yes. On the
Klingon Bridge, Worf thinks they're about to win this. And it looks that way. It looks like
shields are, shields are down to 40% in that previous scene. So less than half of their shields left.
and the Klingon Bridge Wharf says,
Garrick, you're going to spend the rest of your life slaving in the ore processing room.
And I like Garrick's joke here.
He says, well, it's always nice to have something to look forward to.
More common.
They try to squeeze a lot of comedy.
They did.
They did.
Back on the Defiance, Cisco takes the helm.
One more shot in the Defiance toast, basically.
And Cisco says, fly really.
Well, he doesn't say.
He's piloting now.
He's flying really close.
He's skimming the edges of the massive ship.
And then he's firing and causing all kinds of damage.
And we cut to the Klingon Bridge and they can't get the Defiant because it's flying too close.
They can't target them.
They can't get targeting sensors on them.
So we're back on the Defiant Bridge.
It doesn't look like they're going to make it.
Like even though they're flying close and they're taking a lot of stuff out,
they're going to have to use secondary power for their aft shields.
O'Brien says, you've got to get us out of here.
and Cisco says no if we try to leave they're going to have a clear shot at us and so it looks bad
when suddenly we see a big explosion on the Klingon ship we cut to see Bashir and Dax the pirate
couple here to rescue them and the team's back together again and the rebel raiders sorry we were
late but we were having nookie and whatever right yeah they're back together uh they they start
taking all the shots. They're creating all kinds of big damage on the Klingon bridge. Garek's like,
forgive me, sir, my regent, but maybe we should remove your august presence from the battlefield.
And wharf's like, you mean retreat? And Garek says, yeah, basically, we should retreat.
Very Shakespeare-ish in that line, right? Yes, yes. Garek is always very fancy.
stylized how he speaks yeah okay but wharf does decide to retreat smiley is shocked that they won
he's like wow we've won yeah cisco says you sound surprised he says surprised i'm astonished i mean i'm not
not that i'm complaining so they won they did it yeah still that must have been so expensive
all those shots all those visual effects shots of the battle it was just it this is the kind of
battle scene that I wanted Star Trek to have when I was a nine-year-old boy watching original
series reruns. I said, why can't they have massive battles like, you know, Star Wars does? And
they didn't, right? As a kid, you want to shoot them up. You want to see all that. And this episode,
oh my gosh, unbelievable how much great. Yeah, they did. Well, back on the, the Klingon Bridge,
Worf thinks someone had to have betrayed them. You know, that's the only explanation. He doesn't
lose battles unless somebody is cheated or betrayed him and uh and garek says yeah you're betrayed by
the intendant we're both talking about the intendant and uh wharf agrees and uh he says garrick can
dispose of the intendant when they find her and wharf will dispose of all the other rebels
and then he finishes the scene with a make it so which i thought was a nice callback to tmg very much so
Our very last scene is in the infirmary.
Sisko sees Jennifer there.
He still has feelings, clearly.
She's dying.
They hold hands for a moment.
And she says, I knew we were still connected.
He says, always.
And she dies.
And then Jake and Cisco have a big hug, a beautiful crane shot with her lying there in the infirmary bed.
I just want to add, during the conversation,
while we were trying to fix the internet with Terry.
Terry did mention that this is the one thing she did not like.
She wanted Jennifer, Cisco, mirror Jennifer, to remain alive,
to have some type of hope for Jake or something to look forward to or just some.
And I agree with her because this is a double whammy for Jake now.
Jake lost his mom and now his mirror mom.
It's like, ow and double ow.
It's just, it's very painful.
it's very sad and and I kind of agree with her on that yeah I didn't think she was going to die
that's a problem in fact it wasn't clear to me maybe I you know I think you almost needed to have
bashear or some or a doctor or nurse or someone to say pronounce time of death yeah she's gone yeah yeah
to pronounce it because it was not crystal clear to me yeah and I watched the episode two times and
it was still like yeah she did but yeah you needed a she's dead jim you know

Okay.
What's your theme?
What's your lesson?
My theme and moral is
living too much in the past
can get you into trouble.
This was a hard one to find a theme,
but I feel like in the end,
you know,
was it worth it
for Jake and Ben?
to reconnect with Jennifer
like it drug them into
almost losing their lives, losing each other
and the pain of
you know this is not, they're reliving
grief in a way that's not exactly
real grief. It's like
fake grief
in a weird way.
It is fake grief or it's
they're grieving kind of losing
it's like substitution
the acting term of
using substitution right? So
it's not the real deal
okay my my lesson is everything in moderation that's the most simple form of it because I'm referring to too much sexy time equals counterproduction counter being counterproductive you're being counterproductive it's a it's a it's a mess when it's all yes yes it's always sexy time in the mirror universe so that's how I got to everything in moderation yes is the overall
overall lesson I have for this one.
And you're right, it is hard to find one in this.
But I found it.
