Starting point is 00:00:00 Behind every F-35 jet is a Canadian company, horizontal tails built in Winnipeg, engine sensors from Ottawa, and stealth composite panels crafted in Loonenburg to name just a few. Thanks to thousands of skilled Canadian workers, the F-35 aircraft is delivering unmatched capabilities for 20 allied nations around the world, and will generate more than $15.5 billion in industrial value for Canada. Starting point is 00:00:30 So the president has decided to fix the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool that Barack Obama spent $34 million on and failed. Well, he's been hit with a new lawsuit that is trying to stop this from happening. And also, President Trump is in China along with Elon Musk and others in order to get some business deals underway. And then, of course, the outrage, I think you won't be shocked by. Let's start with this reflecting pool and what's really going on here. Take a listen. A nonprofit group trying to stop President Trump's reflecting pool. innovation on the National Mall claims the project breaks federal law. The Cultural Landscape
Starting point is 00:01:05 Foundation filed a lawsuit today, saying the National Park Service violated an historic preservation act by repainting the pool, quote, American flag blue. The complaint says the new color, quote, will fundamentally alter the visual and experiential character of the pool. The president announced the project last month and drove through the pool's construction site just last week. The New York Times is also reporting that its initial cost of less than two. million dollars has now ballooned to seven times that figure. See, these are the type of stories that remind you why you can't trust the media. Because when they go to report the news, they purposely leave out other facts that would
Starting point is 00:01:44 help you have the right interpretation of what's really going on here. So allow DeVorey to do that for you. What they left out is Barack Obama in 2010, 11, and 12 spent $34 million to fix the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. And guess what? He failed to fix it. The leaks continued and algae got out of control. Now, President Trump in his second term, is obviously seeking to finally fix it once and for all. And they're complaining now that it's up to $13 million. Now, you tell me, what is $34 million in 2012? What would that be worth today?
Starting point is 00:02:19 For more on the project, I'm joined now by one of the reporters covering that story. That's David Farenthold of the New York Times. David, welcome back. Let's begin with your reporting. on this that shows that initial cost estimate from the president of $1.8 million, now up to $13.1 million. What happened there? Well, the president Trump has said multiple times that this project is only going to cost $1.8 million or less than $2 million. That's never been right. From the beginning, the federal government had expected to pay $6.9 million for this contract. And then on Friday, that cost jumped again by another 88 percent. So now we're talking about $13.1 million. what is the case to get this done?
Starting point is 00:03:01 Well, as I just told you, this pool has been leaking and has an algae problem that dates back to 2010. The president wants it done for the 250th anniversary of our country, which justifies why this was a no-bid contract. The no-bid contract is also a point of why people are opposed to this. It also includes the fact that it's half of what Barack Obama's job costs. 13 versus 34 million and presidents have always invested into this memorial. So nothing new here. The no big contract might be the biggest criticism. I don't believe it's enough to say, hey, let's pause this project and complain about the fact that it costs 13 million, especially if we compare it to 34 million. But that's exactly what MSDNC spent their time doing today.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Take a listen. I mean, I think the dilemma is, you know, I think about the clip. of all of the folks that had emotional responses that you showed on the front end of this segment, that this is not really an aesthetic choice. It is not about the color, but it is about maintaining the integrity of the memorial design by architect Bacon and landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted Jr.
Starting point is 00:04:17 And Jr. and self literally shaped the federal city in the first parts of the last century. And this is just another egregious situation where Olmsted's design intent for a memorial and commemorative landscape is being altered without any public review whatsoever. All right. I guess I'll have to ask you guys the question. If you could put it in the comment section, do you believe the public needs to approve
Starting point is 00:04:42 fixing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool? Do you think that type of project where it's not something because we're looking to create a new pool? We're looking to make the pool three times larger. We're fixing an existing issue that is based. on a leak and an algae problem. Does that involve public approval? My opinion would be no. I don't think so. But I guess if you're against the president by default, anything that he does, they are against. You would, without hesitation, sue him in regards to this project. And that's the
Starting point is 00:05:18 United States of America. Anybody can sue these days. Let's go to Doug Bergen, the secretary of the Department of the Interior, because this is his willhouse. Here they are pressing him on. on Capitol Hill regarding the no-bid contract. Take a listen. Who picked this company? Because President Trump, a few months ago in a New York Times article, said, I have a guy who's unbelievable at doing swimming pools. He looked at it. He called me up. He said, sir, we can do something on it. Last night, he posted on Truth Social. Also, I did not give out the contract. Interior did to a contractor I did not know and have never used before. So Interior, he's talking about you. Did you give this $13 million no-bid contract to this
Starting point is 00:05:57 company that's never done business with the federal government before? The gentleman's time of the expired. I think the secretary could answer the question. The gentleman that you're talking about that has done construction work regarding pools and fountains for President Trump is not part of this contract. He's just a citizen that cared about it and offered some free advice. There's nothing there there in terms of any dollars flowing to anybody that worked for President Trump.
Starting point is 00:06:22 So let's just take those two issues. It's too expensive and the no big contract is wrong. Okay, compared to what exactly? Is $13 million expensive compared to $34 million in 2012 by Barack Obama? Is the no-bid contract in the context of getting it done before July 4th for the 250th anniversary? Is that the wrong approach? Compared to a competitive bid that might take six to up to maybe a year and a half to finally find a vendor and may cost more? Or what about this?
Starting point is 00:06:54 compared to doing nothing. Is $13 million more expensive than doing nothing in regards to this reflecting pool, which will probably make the problem even worse and more expensive? These people are a joke. You can't take them seriously, obviously. Democrat Senator John Federman put this post on X
Starting point is 00:07:10 about the renovations, Ben. Stop this hand-pecking, $13 million. This is an iconic American place and was in serious disrepair, get over the TDS, and celebrate America 250. Ben, not a bad idea. I mean, I saw some thing where Jim Acosta went running over there with a microphone complaining that Donald Trump was trying to clean this up.

Starting point is 00:08:41 ahead of schedule and under budget to actually be able to execute on basic things. And again, the left hates that. They want to create problems, and they want to say that they're the only solution to them. but their hatred of Trump just trumps all else for them. Another reason they hate Federman because he's actually open and honest and pro-American and unifying in his message. And he represents his constituents.

Starting point is 00:10:06 Okay. So I think at this point you guys know exactly what's going on here. Because in this next story that we're going to update you on, it's the same principle over and over and over again from Democrats. The president is in China today. He's going to meet with Xi Jinping, and he brought an entourage. Elon Musk, the CEO of Navidia, Marco Rubio, who was technically banned from China. They're all in attendance. So this is a huge high stakes meeting for multitude of reasons. Trade is one. Iran war is another one. Whatever business dealing with Elon Musk and the rest of these CEOs have in regards to China, that's a part of it. And so the bottom line here is we're going to show you
Starting point is 00:10:48 how crazy people are as it relates to this trip that the president took. Let's first start with the summary from Fox News. Take a listen. The real action, though, starts in a couple of hours, really, when the two leaders come face to face. And already we're getting early indicators of how this is going to go. And that means how China's handling it. Watch. A red carpet, good, cheering children, excellent, a military honor band, pretty cool. And every detailed choreograph that shows they care. And look at who greeted the president, the second most powerful man in China,
Starting point is 00:11:18 Now, the vice president, Han Zhang. It's kind of big. The United States coming to town clearly has an impact. So China wanted to make the effort, and they did. Now, compare that to what we saw under the last two administrations. Not good. President Biden's defense secretary, for example, Lloyd Austin could not get his counterpart on the phone from Beijing for a year and a half.
Starting point is 00:11:38 And Secretary of State Blinken, remember, he was in Alaska? He got publicly dressed down by Chinese officials in his first year in office. And then there was President Obama's last year in office. His arrival to the G20 summit. Look at this. As he stepped off Air Force One, the red carpeted stairs were missing, forcing President Obama to use an alternate exit typically reserved for war zones. On the tarmac, a Chinese minder tried to block U.S. press access, screaming at a White House aide, this is our country, this is our airport.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Then he yelled at National Security Advisor Susan Rice and tried to prevent her from entering the president's motorcade. The Secret Service had to intervene. A little different greeting now, right? It was pretty clear. Beijing did not take them seriously. I don't care who you voted for. That's just a fact. Yeah, but see, here's the problem.
Starting point is 00:12:29 If they don't roll out the red carpet for President Trump, you know what the headlines would be? China is showing Trump who he really is. They are refusing to bend the knee. They have humiliated them. Then when they roll out the red carpet for the president, you know what they're saying now? Oh, they know exactly how to whine and dine the president.
Starting point is 00:12:47 So which one is it exactly? Okay. Let me show an example of that talking point. Jessica Tarloff on the five. Take a look. The Chinese obviously knows how Donald Trump likes to be greeted. He wants a parade. He likes the fanfare.
Starting point is 00:13:02 It puts him in a good mood. The world leaders that get along with him all know. They call him daddy or whatever you got to do to get through it. So the Chinese definitely got the memo on that. I think Gillian's point on AI is super important. All this. I don't really know how you collaborate with. the Chinese when all they want to do is steal all of our secrets. But obviously he brought these
Starting point is 00:13:22 CEOs there for a reason. I want to talk about one of them in particular, the Navidia CEO, because it was rumored that he wasn't going to come. And then they picked him up in Alaska on a Jensen Wong. Jensen Wong. And that's all about the chips. So the Biden administration was against selling our high-level chips to the Chinese. They said it was a national security threat. President Trump reversed that position. And a lot of people disagree with that. not only did Jets and Wong lobby for that, he wants the Chinese to buy even more of his chips. So
Starting point is 00:13:53 he's there to make a deal. Donald Trump is there to make a deal on that, perhaps, but also several other points on the tariffs. He needs to sell more soybeans. Now, the first half of her talking points is just a complete joke, as you guys are aware. But the second half makes sense to me.
Starting point is 00:14:09 We're dealing with a president who's transactional. Everybody knows that when they voted for. He's a businessman. It makes sense that he would bring businessmen with him on this trip to strike multitude of deals that would be in the best interests of America. Now, I think there's plenty of debate in regards to chips and stuff like that and what type of business we really should be doing with China because as we learn during COVID, they have a certain level of leverage that I think the average American is uncomfortable with at this
Starting point is 00:14:35 point. And it was a tough one. And I'm talking about our supply chain. So trade has to be priority number one, but I'm not in the room. Okay. I'm not the expert. But I'm not an idiot like Chuck Schumer because here he was this morning saying this about the president and China. There's an old saying that only Nixon could go to China, but soon they'll say only Trump could sell out to China. Xi Jinping has Donald Trump salivating at the prospect of a trillion-dollar Chinese investments in America that would threaten America's supply chains, threaten economic independence, threaten national security.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Strengthen China at the expense of American strength. Donald Trump wants a deal with China so badly, he could sell out on American manufacturing. He could sell out on chips. He could sell out on Taiwan, which produces many of these chips. He could sell out on AI on any number of grave issues that will determine who dominates the 21st century. Right now, again, to get his photo in the newspapers and try,
Starting point is 00:15:46 won't work to raise his very low poll numbers, he's going to sell out to China. Now, I'm sure you can remember that Chuck Schumer is part of the old guard that actually sold out to China. All those manufacturing jobs, the middle class, right? These homegrown careers and warehouses and things of that nature all gone. Why? Because Chuck Schumer and Congress, including the president at the time, Bill Clinton, all behind and in support of selling these jobs down the river to China. Now he has a problem.
Starting point is 00:16:23 And then he accuses the president of selling out. Now, here is Brett Bear sharing an interesting experience while filming in China that just shows you what you're going to get when you support communism. Take a look. Big Brother is watching. There are literally cameras everywhere. in Beijing. We are outside the Hadien station, and I can count at least 20 on this corner. In fact, in Beijing, they've added 1,500 cameras just this year alone. They see everything.
Starting point is 00:16:58 There's nobody jaywalking here because they could get a ticket right away. In fact, our driver parked illegally for two minutes, and he got a message on his phone that he got a ticket for about 40 bucks U.S. because they saw it on the camera. Now, there are real questions what the CCP's goal is about citizen tracking and social scoring. They say it's to make everybody feel safe. These cameras are watching every minute. They're everywhere. And while they're watching us here in China, we hope you continue to watch.
Starting point is 00:17:30 Special Report from Beijing. I mean, just imagine that. That's what communism will get you. But the Democrat Party has been knocking on that door. They're supporting candidates who believe in things like this. And, I mean, in America, we should. should be so grateful for the freedoms that we have. And I think people, because they have forgotten to be grateful, they're too busy making up problems that they think should be solved.
Starting point is 00:17:54 Instead of focusing on the things that are basic to the average American, that would be a profound impact on our daily lives. So while Chuck Schumer is on the floor there screaming about China, what is he doing for the people of New York exactly? Nothing. So, you know, it's just interesting, the level of hypocrisy in this particular story and the reflecting pool. I mean, I don't know. Why don't you guys let me know what you think about both these stories in the comments section below? Make sure you hit that like button. Share the show with your family and friends.
