Starting point is 00:00:00 There's more to life than finding the perfect car. But finding the perfect car can help you get the most out of life. Like the SUV that handles everything from drop off to off-road, and the car that hulls groceries and hockey teams, or the van that's gone from just practical to practically family. Whatever you want, wherever you're going, start your search at autotrater.ca. Canada's Car Marketplace.
Starting point is 00:00:30 In today's video, we have breaking news. A Florida Democrat resigned from Congress minutes before a vote was going to take place to expel her. A major update regarding the special election in Virginia, which way is it going to go? We'll tell you exactly or show you exactly what voters had to say. Let's start with this breaking news. Take a listen. We have some breaking news, and that is the Democratic Congresswoman Sheila Scherfellis McCormick has just resigned from Congress. Last month, a subcommittee found the Florida lawmaker guilty of violating several campaign finance laws and regulations.
Starting point is 00:01:04 She's also facing federal criminal charges related to FEMA funding. The congresswoman has pleaded not guilty and has denied wrongdoing. CNN chief congressional correspondent, Manu Raju, is on Capitol Hill. And, Moni, there was a bit of a deadline happening this afternoon. and I guess she's sort of beating the buzzer here with this resignation. Yeah, there's no question about it. She was facing a certain vote for expulsion from the United States House, and that's only happened six times in the history of the House.
Starting point is 00:01:38 And typically what members do is that they are facing the likelihood of being expelled for alleged misconduct. They resigned and give up their seat to avoid that outcome. And that's exactly what Sheila Turfoulos McCormick just did, because she decided to announce her resignation, which was just read on the House floor. All right. Bottom line up front is she is number three on the list that has resigned out of four members of Congress that were facing some type of investigation for misconduct or disciplinary action, as you guys have seen. So if we think about Eric Swalwell, we think about Tony Gonzalez. Now she's on the list.
Starting point is 00:02:17 She has resigned. And the only person left technically would be Corey Mills. And Speaker Johnson was confronted about that, and we'll get to what he had to say. But let's go back down memory lane and see exactly what Representative McCormick had to say when these allegations first came out publicly. Take a listen. Well, it's an unjust indictment, and it seems like these intimidation tactics have been pervasive. We spent all week seeing different members getting censured, all in hopes of intimidating and kind of distracting from the Epstein files. And I look forward to my day in court so I can prove myself and actually state the truth.
Starting point is 00:02:50 But if this is what Congress is becoming, where they're always trying to intimidate you, scare tactics, especially attacking minorities, black and brown people, then we're going to have to keep fighting for the district. And everybody has been giving me so much support. And we're going to keep fighting until the district gets what it needs, which is. So she thought she was going to be able to play chicken with Congress in a sense and tried to call their bluff. And they were willing to expel her. That's what the vote was supposed to be at. 2 p.m. Eastern time didn't happen because she resigned minutes before it was going to take place. I mean, don't she? Isn't that fascinating? And then when we go back through memory lane, we find out she was essentially blaming this investigation on racism that Congress is targeting minorities.
Starting point is 00:03:31 This is a Democrat saying that, by the way. Okay. It's just fascinating. I mean, they can never really tell the truth, right? All right. Let's hear more in this. This is from Newsmax. Take a listen. She was accused of stealing her and others $5 million from FEMA. And then the evidence poured out that it was quite credible. The Ethics Committee went through what hit had to go through its investigation and was about to issue in a report stating that all of this, as far as they were concerned, was factual. So we were going to expel her later today or tomorrow as soon as we got around to it. So she decided to step down in disgrace.
Starting point is 00:04:12 It's very disgraceful that she decided to try to steal $5 million, utilize it for her campaign, utilize it. it for personal uses. And by the way, the Democrat leadership knew about this and did nothing, waited for the ethics report, did not call for her resignation. She did it on her own.
Starting point is 00:04:31 And, well, frankly, that just shows what type of leadership the Democrats in the House have right now. Now, the way you pronounce her last name is Sharfless McCormick. But for the life of me, I've been holding back because every time I read it, I want to
Starting point is 00:04:47 say, self- Fish McCormick, okay? Anybody's still in $5 million of federal funds from FEMA to pay your company, your family's company? Yeah, I think you have some screws loose. And I'm just shocked that she never thought along the way she was ever going to get caught. I mean, again, the mindset of people who commit these types of crimes is astounding, the arrogance in a sense, I suppose. And obviously, her seat is going to be empty for quite some time. And they're saying the person, to replace her isn't going to really happen until potentially next year. We'll see what the governor ends up doing about that.
Starting point is 00:05:27 And Governor DeSantis hasn't announced anything in regards to who could potentially replace her. He's not going to pick them. There would be a special election for it. But $5 million, guys. That is just fascinating work on her behalf. Let's go to Speaker Johnson. Here's what he had to say when reporters questioned him about Corey Mills. Take a listen.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Mr. Speaker, why would there be in a year? effort to do parity in terms of if they're going to try to kick out Ms. Shurfelus McCormick, why wouldn't you do something against Mr. Mills? These are all individual cases that would be absurd. I mean, that would be... Aren't you concerned about Mills' conduct, then? Let me ask you the question. We are always concerned when allegations of inappropriate behavior and certainly sexual misconduct are made against members. If you talk to Representative Mills, and he's entitled to do that, he has said that all of these allegations are untrue.
Starting point is 00:06:20 he is working through that. There is a due process that is allowed, and they're going through that process, as are as have all the other members. It took Sheriff Phyllis McCormick over two years for them to work through that in a deliberative fashion. So we support that process. We don't prejudge anything. I can decry how horrific allegations are, but until they're proven, they're only allegations. But you've not been approached by Mr. Jeffery's, no conversation between.
Starting point is 00:06:46 All right, so let me share this message from today's sponsor, which is super important. We're talking about your personal data. Because how many times have you received a spam call? Spam text message. And you're sitting there wondering, how did they get my information? Well, your information is being sold on the dark web. We're not only just talking about your name or your email address. We're talking about your mailing address and your social security number.
Starting point is 00:07:08 My wife and I were plagued with spam calls repeatedly. It was annoying. This is why today's video is sponsored by ORA. ORA specializes in cleaning up your data, getting it removed, and stopping the spam calls. and we already know that we can't depend on the federal government to help us. We have to help ourselves. And that's why you should be using ORA. They will get you to see what information has been sold or leaked on the internet,
Starting point is 00:07:29 and they'll help you remove it and offer 24-7 monitoring. So try ORA today for the first 14 days, absolutely free. Go to ORA.com. 4 slash DeVore or click the link in the description below. You have to protect your personal data because no one's going to do it for you. Again, that is ORA.com, 4 slash DeVorey. Let me make my point clear. I think Congress should change a couple of rules.
Starting point is 00:07:52 Number one, you cannot resign to avoid an investigation. How do you prevent that from happening? When allegations come up that are serious, you should be suspended. If I was in the military and I had these same allegations, I would be suspended. I would be red flagged. I couldn't do anything. They would be investigating me. I could not just, hey, I'm going to get out of the military.
Starting point is 00:08:14 No, that doesn't work. So even when it appears like there's some type of accountability, there's loopholes for them to dodge the level accountability that the American people deserve. There should have been a vote, just like there should have been an ethics investigation into Eric Swalwell into Tony Gonzalez. And that should happen like yesterday. It's funny how quick they are to condemn socialism or vote for the Defense Authorization Act. But they're very slow to conduct these investigations. Okay. Let's continue.
Starting point is 00:08:44 No, one for one, nothing like that. It would be totally unjust and a violation of the due process that I'm describing to you for party leaders to get together and say, hey, one for one, we'll kick one out, you kick one out. That's not how this works. Each one of these cases had to be evaluated under individual merits, and that's what we'll do. Mr. Speaker, under... Sir, have you asked the Ethics Committee to speed up this investigation and Decorri Mills given the severity of the allegations?
Starting point is 00:09:08 The Speaker of the House and the Minority Leader have no business or role whatsoever governing any activity of the ethics committees. I have my opinion like every other member does. It's a very important rule that the leaders don't put their thumbs on the scales. We allow that process to play out. So I would like all of this to move a lot quicker as well. I'm confident that they are moving along as quickly as they are able. And when members cooperate, which my understanding is Representative Mills is cooperating, unlike Sheriff Liz McCormick, I would expect that the outcome would be much sooner. All right. So that's what Speaker Johnson has. had to say about all of this. Listen, I'm happy she's not going to be serving in Congress anymore.
Starting point is 00:09:49 I think that's great news. I just think there are some adjustments that Congress can make to not only speed this up, but to show the American people that when you commit crimes as a member of Congress, that you're held to a high standard. And I just don't think they're there yet with that. Okay. Let's go to our next update. And this is all in regards to Virginia. As you guys know, it's a special election today to vote on the redistricting effort that Democrats have flip-flopped on. They blame Texas Ford and blame the president for it. But why don't we hear from the voters? Because people have been able to interview them.
Starting point is 00:10:21 So we're going to get some reactions here. Let's start here. Volunteer Gillian Sullivan. So I'm out here doing this because I was terminated as a probationary employee. And I... By Doge. Yes. By Doge.
Starting point is 00:10:35 She was fired, rehired, and then faced another possible federal layoff. So she reluctantly took the Doge buyout. That pushed Sullivan. to volunteer for political campaigns. Hi, I'm Jillian. I'm here on behalf of Virginians for fair elections. She says this battle is about democracy and a fair shot to check President Trump. This is a very pivotal moment, and it's now or never. Okay, so let me explain a few things.
Starting point is 00:11:02 Virginia in particular was hit the hardest besides D.C., I suppose, in regards to the Doge layoffs. They blame Doge for why people are motivated to show up and vote. vote against President Trump and vote yes on this because they lost their job as a federal worker. Now, I would argue that I think that's a little petty. I think when you work for the federal government, I don't think your job should be guaranteed. I think we should always be looking to cut the federal workforce, especially when the quality is not there for the American people. I see no issue with that. However, what the issue I do see is when you're deciding to vote yes on
Starting point is 00:11:40 this because you say you want fair elections, that's a total contradiction. You're, you're You're voting for gerrymandering, arguing fairer elections, 10 to one district versus 6 to 5 in favor of Democrats? Makes no sense. Here's a voter who disagrees. Take a listen. I used to teach preschool, and it sounds like managing a preschool classroom because, first of all, two wrongs don't make a right. Jody Nicholson simply can't stomach the remapping. She's not a shouter sitting in the back at the rally.
Starting point is 00:12:12 She voted for Obama and then Trump. But Nicholson sees the referendum as poisoning the balance between suburban Northern Virginia and the rest of the state. These two populations really don't understand each other. They don't. So there's just a disconnect that inevitably if this referendum passes, those people are just going to be forgotten. Okay, to understand how ridiculous this is, if you want to experience it, just walk outside to your nearest intersection and look at all four corners. And imagine each corner represents a different zip code. Imagine each corner represents a different school district.
Starting point is 00:12:52 That would be insane. But that's exactly what's happening with these maps. And Democrats, again, have proven that they'll do whatever it takes to win. Now, there are Democrats out there who believe in nonpartisan maps. In fact, the guy who created the existing one in Virginia, he's been speaking out against this for a great deal about of time. Listen to this. Brian Cannon helped create Virginia's current independent system to draw nonpartisan maps and opposes this redistricting.
Starting point is 00:13:25 It would be the worst gerrymander Virginia's ever seen, and we've seen a good deal of them. And as a Democrat, I'm telling my Democratic friends, we really don't need to cheat to win. We don't need to burn this down. But what Virginians believe is not clear yet. Polling indicates the remapping push has an edge. but this is the closest redistricting referendum the country has seen. So you have PBS acknowledging how bad this really is, how partisan this really is. You have a Democrat who created the current nonpartisan map or the commission that actually created it for Virginia.
Starting point is 00:13:59 Even he's speaking out against it. Voters are confused. So my hope here is with this current update that the turnout's not going to be what Democrats want it to be. This may still pass in the end, but it might pass like 5149. That's pretty close. And in fact, I think that would be a great example of how partisan and how anti-democratic this move really is. Now, just to make my point, let's go to CNN also acknowledging how crazy this is.
Starting point is 00:14:29 Take a listen. And just take a look at how this map is structured. What they do is they've taken the heavily Democratic areas in the northern area of Virginia, and they've created five separate districts that basically a pinwheel out to go out into conservative, more rural areas, including where we are right now in the proposed seventh congressional district. It's actually interesting. We're kind of like smack dab in the middle of the district. And if you go in one direction, there's another district, about a mile and a half away. In the other direction, there's another district about two miles away, really highlighting the shifts that are being seen right now with these proposed.
Starting point is 00:15:06 Now, again, they will blame President Trump for pressuring Texas to redraw their districts. Okay. And so one can argue that Texas was wrong for doing that, but it is legal. And that's why if there's anyone to blame for this, it's Congress and the Supreme Court. Congress is the one who obviously will write the laws. And the Supreme Court will be the ones to uphold it in accordance of the U.S. Constitution. So when we think about protesting, if it was me, I would be advocating for both sides of the aisle politically to march down to Capitol Hill and compel Congress to ban jerrymandering outright. In fact, I would even advocate for Congress to pass a piece of legislation that forces states to draw nonpartisan maps all over.
Starting point is 00:15:55 I know. That that would not be what anybody wants politically because let's just say you're going to do whatever you can to win, right? All right, let's hear from a few more voters on this. Take a listen. I just feel that it's a constitutional right that we should not be, you know, gerrymandering our districts in order to adjust temporarily for, you know, fairness in the sense that in a way that they're trying to articulate fairness. So I just don't like the way that they're trying to go about it. Why come out here?
Starting point is 00:16:26 Why be part of this? So obviously we've seen a lot of big problems that Donald Trump has created. He has explicitly stated to his state legislatures that support him, find me more seats. I want them. And so I think that's a really big problem. And normally we would say like gerrymandering is wrong, but unfortunately we've been pushed into the positions where two wrongs will make a right. And it's as Democrats, we simply can't come to a boxing match when the other person brings a knife. We're just not going to be able to survive that.
Starting point is 00:16:56 And so that's the position we've been forced into. We vote yes so we can keep the balance of power because of what Texas is doing. They're redistricting so they can have more pro-Trump seats. And I don't necessarily want an anti-Trump seat, but I want someone who's going to balance it out. Amazon presents Jeff versus Taco Truck Salsa, whether it's Verde, Roja, or the orange one. For Jeff, trying any salsa is like playing Russian roulette with a flamethe. Game throwers.
