Starting point is 00:00:00 So Zora Mondani woke up to some bad news. Landlords are now suing him for freezing the rents. We told you this move from Madani would be detrimental to the housing market, as it was just a week ago that rents had hit a record high, so stakes cannot be any higher than what we have now. So let's hear more on this lawsuit and what's really going on here. New York City landlords are now fighting back. A coalition of landlords has filed to a lawsuit looking to overturn the city's newly approved
Starting point is 00:00:27 two-year rent freeze on roughly one million rent-stabilized apartments. They argue that Mayor Zohran Mamdani improperly influenced the rent guidelines board to deliver on a campaign promise. Let's bring in now, Randy Mastro, attorney for the landlord suing Mayor Mamdani. Welcome to you, sir. Good to have you here. Pleasure to be here. So what's the case the landlords are making? Well, it's a simple proposition. an independent board statutorily required to weigh all the evidence and fairly consider the data.
Starting point is 00:01:03 Instead, perverted the process at the mayor's behest to deliver on his campaign promise. This was a sham process to deliver a predetermined outcome that the mayor directed by fiat. That is blatantly illegal. Now, out of defiance, because that's who the mayor prides himself to be. You know what he wrote? He said, I don't know who needs to hear this, but it's illegal for landlords to do the following. Lock you out or evict you without a court order. Shut off your heat, hot water, electricity, or other essential services to force you out of your own,
Starting point is 00:01:37 retaliate against you for reporting unsafe conditions or exercising your tenant rights. And then he goes on to say things like, you know, discrimination against you because of your race, disability, or other protected. characteristics. And so then he comes out with his watch list, the 100 worst landlords in New York City. He's literally declaring war on landlords. And a set of finding ways to work together, he's alienating them, right? And that's why I said his decision making is a fatal blow to the housing market in New York City. No doubt about it. And the ramifications of it are profound. More than a million New Yorkers live in rent-stabilized apartments. That's thousands of landlords.
Starting point is 00:02:23 Many of them struggling to survive because we are living in a period of inflation rising, the costs of landlords soaring taxes, utilities, insurance. Yet somehow this board, under the mayor's influence, came to the conclusion that zero rent increase was warranted, not supported by the data or did not properly consider the statutory criteria and we believe
Starting point is 00:02:52 it will be found to be illegal So it goes without saying that the mayor will obviously try to spin this type of backlash and lawsuit and that's why it's very important that you get in touch or in tune with a tool like Ground News. Check it out for yourself. Go to groundat news 4
Starting point is 00:03:08 slash DeVore. This tool will help you cut through the noise so you can see the full picture of what's being reported in the media. For example, this story, 50% of the outlets lean right that are actually talking about this, and only 20% of the outlets lean left. So what does that tell you? That tells you the left really doesn't want to talk about this because they know this is a setback. And by the way, what about those stories that are only reported by one side of the political
Starting point is 00:03:33 spectrum? Well, that's what ground news calls blind spot. So you could check out if the right is only talking about something or the left is only talking about something. Why is that? So you could get the full picture of what's. in the news. So check out ground. News 4 slash devori for yourself. Scan the QR code you see here on the screen. They're going to give you 20% off the vantage plan. So check it out for yourself so you could stay
Starting point is 00:03:55 in the know. Yeah. So bottom line here is the lawsuit here is based on the process. Okay. And to be objectively fair here, what Mondani did is exactly what Eric Adams attempted to do at the end of his administration, which is essentially packed the rental board with people that they would prefer. And I don't know if that's truly illegal, but I will say this. I think the better question is, what happens when you freeze rent, but you don't freeze the cost of the property? So, again, whether or not they're going to win this lawsuit is a whole nother thing. But this is another problem for the mayor to have to deal with, okay? And it's a problem he caused himself.
Starting point is 00:04:34 I don't think this is an adequate solution to what's happening in New York City. I think the supply and demand factor is going to be much more important. And freezing rents actually makes supply and demand worse, by the way. But again, when your whole stitch is being a Democrat socialist, also known as a communist, you're not interested in the principles of supply and demand. Now, let's go to the CEO of the New York City Apartment Association. Here was his thoughts about it. Kenny Burgos is the CEO of the New York apartment, rental apartment,
Starting point is 00:05:10 association, so I'll get it right, Kay. And he joins me now. You represent a lot of landlords. Why do they say the rent freeze is illegal? On what grounds is it illegal? Yeah, we represent thousands of rents, they apply as landlords across this city. And it's illegal because you have seen Mayor Mamadani from the campaign through today be completely forthcoming and saying that he wants to see a rent freeze. And he has delivered that by installing six members onto the rent guidelines board. And they have ignored the data that they present it. When they acknowledge costs have gone up 5% and then make the just of a for a two-year rent freeze on some sort of future capital injection that they both have no power over
Starting point is 00:05:45 and no knowledge that it will come. And that is outside the bounds of their legal doctrine. And so that is a question that this lawsuit brings. We are not parted to this lawsuit, but I think it raises questions that we have been elevating for years now. Okay, more importantly, I'm very grateful that you took the time out to watch the show today. So can you do me a favor? Like this video, share this video with your family and friends. And please leave a comment down below so this video can be shown to more people like me and you. So bottom line is, Bandani's, so bottom line is we'll see where this lawsuit goes. I think it was a misstep by the mayor. And I don't think socialism works in a capitalist system. I think free markets are the way to go. And I think if he was to invest in landlords,
Starting point is 00:06:27 I think prices could come down and also developers so they can build more housing. All right. So this is our sanity report where I react to viral clips on the internet about American culture, and grade them, why don't we kick things off with our favorite first lady, Michelle Obama, who says white men never had to experience imposter syndrome. Only black women do. The table there is. I have seen it all. Every table, I've been at it. And I feel like it's my job to come down from the mountain and be like, y'all, this is a mole. It's not all that, because there's so many people like me, like you, women, minorities, folks who aren't supposed to be at these tables because they are sitting around thinking that they're impostors, you know, imposterousism.
Starting point is 00:07:21 I've never heard a white man talk about imposter syndrome. I haven't met. I haven't met one who has felt it. I'm just wondering if you guys know what we're talking about when we talk about imposter syndrome, this feeling that you don't belong at the powerful table you're sitting in. y'all were like nope never felt it yeah so this is why therapy is an issue in the united states of america um and i say that because imposter syndrome is colorblind it doesn't care about your skin color okay imposter syndrome is just an insecurity it's a limiting belief okay and it has everything to do with your self-image if you don't see yourself or believe that you are a value that you deserve the success you're getting,
Starting point is 00:08:10 or that you deserve to see and experience the success that you want in a particular field, that's what imposter syndrome is. You feel like you're not supposed to be there. That's got nothing to do with skin color, obviously. But, you know, when you're Michelle Obama, you're used to just making up shit because your whole stitch is basically my skin color this, my skin color that, my gender, this, my gender, that, me, me, me, me. And screw white people. That's who she is, basically. I don't believe she's a proper leader. I don't think she's a great example. I think she's the wrong example.
Starting point is 00:08:48 That's why she gets an F minus. So this woman was fired from her job on the second day because she was late. And this is her complaint. I am so open and transparent with you guys. Remember how I told you guys I got a job, right? Let's do the update. Yesterday I'm about to make an OOTD. Mind you, I told them I'm coming late to work. First day, unfortunately, I had to go to the DMV because my license was suspended. Let's wrap that up. Okay. No, let's not wrap that up. So you're driving around with your license suspended and it's your place of work's responsibility to let you come in late? No, thank you. They don't owe you anything. It's the entitlement, folks. Like it took me a long time to get out of bed. I was in pain, whatever. I still came and
Starting point is 00:09:38 my face got there. By the time it looked great, had everything, all my stuff, probably clocked in. Nine o'clock, we're trying to clock. And like, let's just say 10 minutes. She was like, yeah, go ahead and clock out. You're done. And I'm like, yeah. I'm done. I'm cooked. Yeah, you are cooked because you have bad habits, which is why you get an F when it comes to being a responsible adult. You're riding around with a suspended license. You're too busy on TikTok, you know, sharing every part of your life when you should be focusing on bettering your life. These are life skills. Yeah, so she gets it at. So I don't know if you guys know who this is, but this is Megan. She's an American soccer player on the U.S. women's soccer team. That's who she is.
Starting point is 00:10:29 I believe she's one of the captains. I might be wrong. But anyways, she's not shy to speak on trans issues. She was on the view, and this is what she had to say. At first it was like, well, nobody likes women's sports and nobody wants to watch it. Or there was, you know, abuse happening and nobody seemed to care. Now all of a sudden we're going to use a vulnerable group of people in the trans community to be like, oh, well, we're just protecting women sports and we care so much about it.
Starting point is 00:10:55 when the Heritage Foundation is now going to go after Title IX. So is it about reproductive rights or is it about just women's rights in general? We're seeing the rollback of Rowey Wade. Marriage equality, I feel like is getting put back on the table. That was settled law. And so all of these things like, yes, they're going after trans people in sports and they're using this as a wedge issue because we love sports and, you know, we don't want our little girls to be unsafe in sports.
Starting point is 00:11:19 And it's like unsafe from who? But okay. Yeah. So say that to the high schooler who got brain damage in volleyball. Or say that to the high schooler in California who lost the state track race at the hands of A.B. Hernandez, which is a dude. And again, the reason why they lose credibility when trying to defend the trans community is they belittle and minimize the impact it has on people who have worked hard. to win in sports. And I just want to be clear with my words, attack means in their language, any level of criticism is hate, it's bigotry, it's bad, it's wrong, no criticism whatsoever.
Starting point is 00:12:10 That's what attack means. So when they start attacking, I'm going to say, hey, I thought, I thought you said you cared about marginalized groups, vulnerable groups. Why don't we go to someone who's got the right idea. Sophie Cunningham. She's been in the news. She's been viral. She recently gave an interview to ESPN, calling it what it is. Men do not belong in women's sports. To protect young girls who shouldn't have to go against biological men. Just can you expand your viewpoint on that? I mean, I think I said what I said. I think it's kind of common sense. And I think I'll always believe in that. I think it's really important to protect children. and that's little girls who are also involved in that category.
Starting point is 00:12:52 And so I stand on what I said, and I always believe that. Do you see your advocacy on that, like taking any form going forward? You know, I don't know. I didn't. I'm not a very political person, but I do have beliefs. I have morals, and I'll always stand on those and be true to who I am. And I think people are going to take it how they want to take it, but I have never even really said anything about that. And so when it comes just to protecting young girls in sport and women in sport, I feel very strongly about that. I think that's why you have Title IX.
Starting point is 00:13:23 That's why you have some of the grades in women's sports. If Title IX and women's sports weren't protected, then you wouldn't hear about any type of women in sport. And so I think in the future it's just really important to protect. Yeah. But see, protecting women is not the thing they want to do. They want to protect trans women, which really what they're saying.
Starting point is 00:13:45 is they want to protect men with mental illnesses. That's what they want to do. And the interesting thing is when I say that, the reaction is devori, you're hateful, man. Why are you so hateful towards trans people? I'm not hateful. I'm describing the reality here. That's not being hateful.
Starting point is 00:14:03 I don't have any ill will towards people who identify as trans. But I'm also not an idiot. Men have no business playing in women's sports. Unless you want to go create a co-ed league, go right on ahead. It's that simple. And it's easy to push back on that because people do have suicidal empathy. But when your daughter comes home and is mad because she lost the championship at the hands of someone who was a man or is seriously injured, I think you might think twice, right?
Starting point is 00:14:34 So Sophie, you get an A plus because you continue to stun the world with your level of common sense. She stands out for Caitlin Clark. She's not into the woke stuff. she's what I would expect your average WMBA player to be like, to be grateful, to be proud to be an American citizen, to go out there and do what you're supposed to do on a daily basis. And don't make everything about you. Yeah. So give me your thoughts about Zoroaumontani getting sued by landlords. Drop your thoughts in the comments section below.
