Starting point is 00:00:00 There's more to life than finding the perfect car. But finding the perfect car can help you get the most out of life. Like the SUV that handles everything from drop off to off road, and the car that hulls groceries and hockey teams, or the van that's gone from just practical to practically family. Whatever you want, wherever you're going, start your search at autotrater.ca. Canada's Car Marketplace.
Starting point is 00:00:30 In today's video, Zoro Mondani gets bad news after his plan to tax the rich has backfired. Also, a U.S. soldiers been arrested for profiting $400,000 on the capture of Maduro, and FBI gets a big win by arresting members of the Mexican mafia. But let's start exactly with what's happening with Mondani. Take a listen. Potential fallout over Mayor Mamdani's tax the rich plan. One of his social media videos could be impacting a major redevelopment project in Midtown. Andrew Ramos has this story. I ran for mayor. I said I was going to tax the rich. It's this 60-second social media video starring Mayor Zoran, Momdani, that may have jeopardized a multi-billion dollar project.
Starting point is 00:01:10 Citadel, one of the world's largest hedge fund firms, is spearheading the massive redevelopment of 350 Park Avenue in Midtown. As part of the mayor's campaign promised to tax the rich, Momdani took a jab at Citadel founder and CEO Ken Griffin. This penthouse. which hedge fund CEO Ken Griffin bought for $238 million. This pierre to tear tax is specifically designed for the richest of the rich. The city rolled out the ad referencing Governor Hockel's plans for a Pieda Tier tax, which would target secondary homes worth $5 million or more. The taxed the rich movement has gained steam with demonstrators filling the lobby of Governor
Starting point is 00:01:51 Hockel's Midtown office Thursday. Many were taken into custody. Guys, this is really bad. for the mayor. He hasn't even implemented this tax yet, and he's already receiving this level of pushback and the possibility that this business will take their business somewhere else. Now, I at times would watch that show called Selling Manhattan. I don't know if you guys have seen it, where Citadel is actually in that particular show. It's really just about, you know, real estate agents selling luxury properties in New York for an obscene amount, of course.
Starting point is 00:02:26 and what's fascinating is, again, what is fair share? Who gets to decide? And how do we know for a fact that the money will be appropriated properly? These are all questions that they refuse to obviously answer because they know. And according to history, that money's not going to go where it needs to. So I just think this is bad for the mayor. Let's continue to listen. Watch. In a company-wide email to Citadel employees obtained by CBS News New York,
Starting point is 00:02:59 Chief Operating Officer Gerald Beeson said this about the mayor. It is shameful that he used Ken's name as the example of those who supposedly aren't carrying their fair share of the burdens associated with New York City's often costly and wasteful spending. Beeson went on to outline contributions by Citadel team members over the years, including $2.3 billion in city and state taxes. Also highlighting that the 350 Park Avenue redevelopment is set to create 6,000 construction jobs and more than 15,000 permanent jobs in Midtown. Political analyst, J.C. Polanco. What are you doing? Campaign's over. Your mayor, act like it. It's just going to push them further to Florida, to Texas, where so many of them are taking their companies.
Starting point is 00:03:47 As of now, it's unclear if Citadel will indeed be pulling out of this project. Now, we did reach out to the mayor's office earlier to get a response about this situation. We did not hear back. So Zoro Mondani is continuing to learn what it's like to be the mayor of New York City. And he's already made a few mistakes. This is definitely one of them at the top of the list. When you name drop Ken Griffin, someone who has political power in that state, someone who's definitely paid for a lot of services in that state, even though he may not live there. and it's contributed to a lot of properties that obviously have benefited New York City.
Starting point is 00:04:27 So when you name drop him and then you have protesters show up in front of his building, you are pretty much putting a target on his back and his company. So of course they're going to push back. I think they were really polite about it. I probably would have been a little bit more aggressive. I probably would have threatened to leave. But I don't think they're there yet. They might get there.
Starting point is 00:04:47 This continues to, I guess, escalate. and someone like Zoro Mondani, because he's so new at this, I wouldn't put it past him to do a, or to take another step that would escalate all of this. But anyways, let's go to this Democrat-leaning host on C&BC. He usually will defend Democrats' position on things. This one, he's struggling to. I think if you really read the memo carefully, there's a little bit of a threat in there that maybe they wouldn't necessarily do this. They didn't say it was like done, done, done. And this goes back to why I'm not sure where I land on the tax itself,
Starting point is 00:05:24 because I don't think we know enough about even how the tax is structured. But the broader concept of not New York is open for business, and we're thrilled that you're here and happy that you're contributing to the revenue base under this new plan and old plan. But we're not open for business, and we don't want you here. And I think that sort of spirit is the distinction that I hope other people, you know, appreciate and maybe have some conversations with the mayor about. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:54 Now, the problem with his thinking on this is the people surrounding Zaraamandani do not think that way. If they were to think that way and switch up the message, it would contradict everything he said up to this point. I mean, his very core message is that tax the rich, they're getting away with what they want to get away with. We must punish them so that we can save. you guys and how do we save you? We'll pay for everything. You see, in life, there are really no solutions in a sense. There are only trade-offs. There's a pro and a con with every decision that is made, especially when you're elected. There are consequences. And Mondani continues to talk as if this tax is free money. But every tax has a behavioral response. The city may
Starting point is 00:06:40 collect revenue from some wealthy second home owners, but it may also discourage investment, reduce luxury property values and make New York look hostile to high-income taxpayers and job creators. So it has the opposite effect. Okay, let's go here. So Kevin, here we have the mayor of the city, standing outside the home of a private citizen who employs thousands of people in that city, provides a massive tax base, donates millions of dollars to charities of all kinds, and yet he's there basically saying, I don't like you because you have too much money. Let's talk about what he did to Ken Griffith, though,
Starting point is 00:08:08 because how would he like it if Ken took a video crew outside his houses say, Mondami lives here? This is where he lives. Think about what that means for personal safety. Just in New York City to point out where someone lives vandalism or much worse, I thought that was pretty bad. That's not a good look for him. And I would think he'd want to do a little soul searching on that one.
Starting point is 00:08:35 That was terrible. Let's talk about the policy. How bad is that policy? So number one, you've got individuals that spend $5 million and buy Pietitaires that employs union workers buying raw materials, all kinds of employees, whether they're electricians or workers in the interiors of these places, thousands, if not tens of thousands of jobs creating these places. And then once they're created, the people who don't live there pay maintenance and property tax. And they don't take a dime from the city's resources because they're not there.
Starting point is 00:09:12 I would argue you'd want more people doing this, not less. people. So the policy's really, really stupid. Okay, so let's go to our next story. And this is in regards to the U.S. Special Forces soldier who's now been arrested by the FBI for profiting $400,000
Starting point is 00:09:30 after he placed a bet on polymarket that the United States of America would capture Maduro. Now, he had access to this information. He placed that bet one day before the operation took place. And in fact, this story is really huge because he's the first
Starting point is 00:09:46 individual to be criminally charged by taking insider information and using a prediction market to make money. First, what I want to do is go through this story and just talk about the core problem here and then get into what about Congress? Let's start. A U.S. Special Forces soldier who was involved in the capture of Venezuelan president, Nicholas Maduro, has just been arrested. He's accused of placing bets on that operation.
Starting point is 00:10:14 That's that won him $400,000. I want to bring in Senance Kara Skinell and CNN's John Miller and Kara. You were first to report last month that this trade was under investigation. What do we know about this arrest? This member was arrested today. What we know from the indictment is that he is an active military member. He was involved in the planning and execution of the capture of Nicholas Maduro. And according to authorities, he traded based on classified information that he knew about the raid.
Starting point is 00:10:42 And here's what we know about the timing of these trades. He made these trades on Polly Market, one of those prediction markets, where he placed a bet that Maduro would be out of Venezuela by the end of January. These bets he started placing on December 27th, and he made them up until January 2nd. That U.S. capture happened in the early morning of January 3rd. So that paid out huge. His initial bets totaled about $32,000. He made more than $400,000 in profits. Now, this is the first criminal case that has been brought involving prediction markets.
Starting point is 00:11:15 It involves these allegations of insider trading and misuse of government information for one's personal gain. He is facing five charges. According to authorities, he will be presented before a judge in North Carolina where he is based, and then he will come to New York to ultimately face these charges. We don't know who his lawyer is and he's in custody, so we haven't been able to reach him for comment. But prosecutors say that after he made these trades and he cashed out big, He sent the money overseas to a foreign crypto wallet and then ultimately cashed that out to an online brokerage account and then asked Polly Market to take it down once it had attracted so much attention. So the core of how I want to approach this is that selective enforcement destroys trust faster than non-enforcement.
Starting point is 00:12:00 If you're going to prosecute this U.S. Special Forces, which he deserves it because clearly he took classified information and made money off of it, I hope you're doing it to Congress as well. That's the whole statement here. Now, let's take a step back and realize this is a broader issue within this administration, I would argue. I've been telling you, guys, people are gripping off the president. People are taking information from outside that White House, and they are making serious money off of it. Why? Because this administration has a vetting issue. It's so interesting that someone like Lower Lumer is more effective at exposing people who are against the president than the president's own team.
Starting point is 00:12:37 It doesn't make any sense. But this is just another example of it. And obviously, this is a whole other issue in regards to just non-public information that government employees can use to financially benefit off of. And that also includes military personnel. Okay. Now, speaking of Congress, this is Anna Paulina Luna who has this reaction. Take a look.
Starting point is 00:13:00 I know you also wanted to talk about, you know, insider trading ban and also polymarket. Let's go ahead and have this conversation. A story just came out before the show came on. about one of the guys they sent in to grab Maduro out of Venezuela actually bet on that and made $400,000 and the DOJ has now arrested him. One of the guys that went into Venezuela to do that operation back in December. Yeah, so, again, the reason I wanted to talk about that is because here you have an example of the DOJ saying, you know, this is not fair.
Starting point is 00:13:32 We're going to go and we're going to throw the book at this guy, right? I'm not necessarily saying what he did is right. However, every single day in Congress, you have multiple members of Congress that are engaging in insider trading. We had an actual ban on this that we pressured leadership to bring to the floor, and we're going to get on vote on it. But Hakeem Jeffries, when it told the Democrats not to support this ban, and we were receiving own pressure from our own leadership on pushing this forward. And yet you have a member who went on this raid, which, by the way, our military members don't get paid a lot. But the member that goes on this raid places a bet, and yet he's facing, I think, up to 50 or 60 years in prison. So there is no double standard of justice or there is no fair justice in this country if you have members of Congress getting away with it.
Starting point is 00:14:17 And this guy doing it every day. So an unpopular take, I'm going to be asking for him to be pardoned. I'm going to ask that he have to or they disgorge his profits and that he basically go back to the military because at the end of the day, again, we have proof of this happening every day. Nancy Pelosi made 17,000 percent returns on her stock investments. She's not going to jail. I totally agree. Democrats are Republicans, 600 percent, not jail. Now, listen, I wouldn't have made this trade because I don't even think it's worth the risk.
Starting point is 00:14:45 And there was a lesson my mother used to always repeat to myself. If you're going to do something stupid, DeVoree, do it smartly. And I'd be like, well, I don't even, I have no idea what she's talking about. Well, it's very simple. If you're going to commit fraud, if you're going to benefit off classified information, or you're going to break the law, you should do it in a way that isn't going to draw attention to yourself. Okay, $400,000 has a lot of money.
Starting point is 00:15:12 You're going to catch a lot of attention, especially on a prediction market. And the thing about polymarket is they disclose people's trades. Unlike Kalshi. So you can go to Kalshi.com. They're not going to tell people what bets you placed. But on Polly Market, I can actually look at every single trade you made. So again, it wasn't smart.
Starting point is 00:15:32 the way that he went about it. Look into it. Yeah. Also, I know they're being placed as well on the Iran conflict, too, and there have been some trackings where people suspect that there's inside of trading happening on these prediction markets around the war. Well, you know, the whole world, unfortunately, has become somewhat of a casino. And you look at what's going on all over the world in Europe,
Starting point is 00:15:56 and every place they're doing these betting things. I was never much in favor of it. I don't like it conceptually. but it is what it is. No, I think that I'm not happy with any of that stuff, but they have all these different sites. They have predictive markets. It's a crazy world.
Starting point is 00:16:13 It's a much different world than it was. Please. Yeah, so in regards to the soldier, he'll probably be prosecuted, no doubt. Maybe there will be an agreement. Maybe he'll be found guilty. We'll see. Maybe he'll get pardon in the end.
Starting point is 00:16:27 But I will tell you this. Overall, the problem with Congress, is very simple. Congress should not be allowed to write the rules, trade on those rules, and then investigate itself. How does that work? That doesn't work whatsoever, right? So yes, the soldiers wrong here. But that's, I think, the least of our problems. I think the main problem, I think the root cause to this level of corruption is right out of Congress. I think they should you know, standardize this entire law and applied evenly across the board to all federal government employees, including members of Congress. But obviously, that would be, you know,
Starting point is 00:17:13 in a perfect world. Now, one more clip I want to show you because I think it demonstrates how many people are grifting off this administration. Take a look. Last Friday, investors bet $760 million that oil prices would drop. 20 minutes later, Iran's foreign minister said the straight of form move. would reopen. After the post, oil futures fell 11%. And earlier this month, less than three hours before President Trump announced on Truth Social, a U.S. ceasefire with Iran, traders had bet $950 million that oil prices would fall. That bet paid off as well. Oil futures fell 15% after the post. There are no obvious ties between the trades and White House officials. And a White House spokesman
Starting point is 00:18:00 told CNN any implication that administration officials are violating the law is quote baseless and irresponsible so let me break this down into two separate points anyone who's into options trading knows exactly what's happening here there is a difference between placing that trade after information has been made public and placing a trade before that information's made public now when you place a trade before information becomes public that doesn't mean you're breaking the law obviously. But if you are working within the administration and you have connections, right, and people within that administration and sharing that information with you, right, you're clearly benefiting from private information. I give you guys a great example of this.
Starting point is 00:18:46 I do option trading from time to time, and I place a call option on the S&P 500 to strike at 7,000. I knew that would happen. As soon as the Shreder-Hermost was announced of being open, as soon as both ceasefires went into effect, I knew it would go up. Okay? But I only did that after the information became public. I didn't know he was ever going to announce that. But there are people placing trades way before that, way before the announcement and making millions. I do have a problem with that.
Starting point is 00:19:17 I'll be honest with you guys about it. Absolutely. Because if they're getting away with it, imagine what Congress is getting away with. The key phrase that makes something insider trading under the law is if somebody's trading based on material non-public information. The question is essentially, is this information that was known to the general public outside the halls of Congress, outside of the White House, outside of government itself? Last month, the White House sent a memo to staff reminding them that, quote, the misuse of non-public information by government employees for financial benefit is a very serious offense and will not be tolerated. Okay, so give me your thoughts in the comment section below to that particular story. According to Annapalina, if we're going to do this to this soldier, we've got to do it to members of Congress.
Starting point is 00:20:04 And secondly, do you believe this soldier deserves a pardon? Let me know what your thoughts are. Let's move to our next story, and this is really great news. It continues to show the priorities of this administration. 43 Mexican mafia gangsters have been arrested in California. Take a listen. This is a really important story tonight. Now, these guys sport nicknames like Scrappy, Sniper, Diablo, and Kool-Aid.
Starting point is 00:20:29 But tonight they're known by another name, and that is, of course, criminals. Dozens of alleged criminals, allegedly belonging to the Mexican mafia and associates, all arrested during a major FBI investigation and an operation, including, by the way, several warrants passed out all around Southern California. Much of this happening today, the arrest made in connection with three federal indictments, that charge 43 defendants with a litany of counts like kidnapping, extortion, drug trafficking, illegal gambling, and even murder. Federal agents seizing nearly 120 pounds of meth, 9 pounds of fentanyl, more than 6 pounds of coke,
Starting point is 00:21:09 2 pounds of heroin, along with 25 firearms and more than 30 grand in cash. FBI having raids take place in both L.A. and Orange counties in what federal officials call, Sean, Operation Gangstas Paradise. The accused all believed to be a part of this gang called A.M.A., it's a prison gang. It has control over a number of other gangs in Southern California. By the way, at least two of the suspects could be not just facing mandatory life sentences that convicted. A couple could also be eligible for the death penalty.
Starting point is 00:21:41 So this is the very definition of a drug trafficker. And the fact that it was a huge network where they were able to get away with this shows you how long this has been taking place, especially in a state like California. Now, we know this is not at the top of their priority lists. And their attitude is we'll just leave it up to the feds to figure this out. And the good news here is that the FBI, as it is today, is actually prioritizing arrest like this.
Starting point is 00:22:09 So, you know, there is legitimate criticism regarding Epstein and all this other stuff, but you cannot deny the great work that the FBI continues to do as relates to cracking down on criminals like this. Now, the assistant U.S. attorney, he was actually on site, and here's what he had to say about it. SWAT teams right now have taken two individuals into custody. It's unclear if anyone else is inside that house. Bill, tell us what you believe this person is responsible for. So this gentleman, he's been indicted by the grand jury for five separate charges
Starting point is 00:22:39 dealing with distribution of fentanyl. He's a drug dealer. And he's a drug dealer. He operates with the permission and on behalf, again, of the Mexican mafia from within prison. They get a cut of the proceeds, but they also control who is allowed to sell drugs and where. So he was one of the associates. He sold five separate transactions of fentanyl to undercover agents. And so that was presented to the grand jury, and he was indicted, and he's being arrested this morning.
Starting point is 00:23:04 And what can you tell us about everything that's happening this morning? It's also not just Orange County. It's also L.A. County. How many different locations? How many associates of the Mexican Mafia? So we have indicted about 40 individuals in this case. It's a very large case. About 10 of them are already in custody.
Starting point is 00:23:21 Again, a lot of them operate from within custody. The other 30 or so we're arresting this morning. And so you have teams of law enforcement going to each of their homes, residences, throughout Southern California. The focus of this particular gang, they operate in Orange County, San Ana, Anaheim, Tustin. But, of course, they live throughout the area. So we are giving them an early morning wake up Paul this morning. Amazon Presents Jeff versus Taco Truck Salsa. Whether it's Verde, Roja, or the orange one.
Starting point is 00:23:52 For Jeff, trying any salsa is like playing Russian roulette with a flamethrower. Luckily, Jeff saved with Amazon and stocked up on antacids, ginger tea, and milk. Habaniero? More like habanier, yes. Save the everyday with Amazon. The ride that steals the spotlight every time it hits the road, that's the Volkswagen Tiguan. Its sleek exterior makes a first impression you can't ignore. Step inside to find available full leather seats and wood accents.
Starting point is 00:24:27 Under the hood, the available 201 turbocharged horse power engine gives it a fun to drive edge. The refined Tiguan, you deserve more style. Visit vw.ca to learn more. SuvW, German engineered for all. Now, as I continue to hear this story, what really jumps out to me is that if I was a Democrat mayor, I'd cut a deal with the president. His behavior is predictable. He makes business moves.
Starting point is 00:24:54 He is transactional. Hey, President Trump, what would you like for me so I can get what I want from you? Wouldn't it be nice if these Democrat mayors would put their Trump derangement to the side and leverage the willingness of President Trump to send in federal resources to crack down on crime? You think that's what they would prioritize. I mean, if you have Karen Bass in the White House, you add Zora Mondani in the White House. You had Zora Mondani in the White House. You've had Gretchen Whitmore in the White House.
Starting point is 00:25:21 Why can't all these other mayors get with the program? And we're talking about lives. How many lives have been negatively damaged by this particular mafia? Imagine that. Imagine if these Democrat mayors just said, hey, President Trump, let's make a deal. I want these gang members out of our cities. I want the worst and the worst out of our cities. What do you want in return?
Starting point is 00:25:43 I mean, in a common sense world, that that's exactly the way that it would probably work, right? A major operation, Sandra, targeting one of the nation's most feared prison gangs, the Mexican mafia. As you said, 6 a.m. this morning, the FBI and seven local SWAT teams arresting 45 suspects from around Orange County, 66 felony counts, drug dealing, kidnapping, assault, extortion, and murder. All suspects are then brought to the Santa Ana Police Station for processing. And here's what's fascinating about the...
Starting point is 00:26:15 the indictment. One, the Mexican Mafia is known as the gang of gangs because all Latino gang members, Latin Kings, Serenios, East Siders, doesn't matter, ultimately all answered to the Mexican Mafia. And while it is a prison gang, all the associates you see here on the outside still answer to one person behind bars. Finally, Mexican Mafia has nothing to do with Mexico. It was formed in the 50s by Mexican-American inmates, and now it is the most powerful gang in this state with thousands of Latino gangbangers following their orders. All right. So let's get your guys' reaction in the comments section below to this entire video today.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Mondani continues to attack the very people who have invested into New York City. Do you believe this will lead to a bad outcome for the mayor politically? What did you make of the FBI with their latest win regarding arresting members of the Mexican mafia? And then the U.S. soldier who's been arrested for profiting $400,000 on the operation. to capture Maduro. Give me your thoughts, everything you got in the comments section below.
