The Digression Sessions - Ep. 137 - JT Habersaat! (@JTStandUp)
Episode Date: October 15, 2014Hola DigHeads! On a very special, bonus, Digression Sessions, Josh and Mike have a phone-convo with punk-comedian JT Haberssaat. JT has apperaed on Comedy Central, has performed with Henry Rollins,... Doug Standhope, and Brian Posehn, and even acted alongside Ron Jeremy in the (technically, non-pornagraphic) Toxic Avenger 4. He is currently headlining the Altercation Punk Comedy Tour, the Bmore stop of which will be featuring Josh and Mike as openers. The boys get in depth with JT about his DIY, “Black Flag-style,” of touring, and why he prefers to avoid the mainstream comedy circuit, and just do the whole damn thing himself. Thanks for the call-in JT, this was a very fun and interesting conversation! And thank you, DigHeads, especially all the new listeners we’ve recently rounded up! Please check-out all the other great east-coast podcasts in the Thunder Grunt family! We love youuuu!

And I think he was a little hungover, like he said.
But it was fun, man.
It was cool getting to know this guy for a little bit and uh talk about the tour and it's really cool it's just uh inspiring
like that uh comedians are just booking shows all around the country getting in a van and doing the
work lewis and clark style just going for it yep with a native american guy of course well they

um this thursday i'll be at the auto bar i'll be doing a podcast with someone else a comedian out
of dc his name is david twighty and his podcast is called sadness town it's going to be at the
upstairs of uh auto Bar here in Baltimore.
And it's a really cool podcast where the guest puts together a playlist of eight songs they listen to in high school.
And then you go over the wreckage of your high school day.
It's a really cool idea.
So the whole idea behind the podcast is you weren't cool in high school.
I feel like I would how tempted to lie about
like mike that came out in 2012 yeah i know i was ahead of the game i was ahead of the game
um but yeah mine's gonna be a lot a lot of new metal into uh into some pop punk and uh it's
gonna be yeah it's gonna be good mine would probably be mostly like bach and miles davis
you know some string quartets in there just you know
what you listen to when you were studying yeah uh so come out to that glass yeah come out to that
it's gonna be eight o'clock at the auto bar this thursday and then friday we will be doing that
show at zissamos and uh michael anything else to plug sir uh I'll be doing improv at the Mercury Theater on October 16th, 8 o'clock.
That altercation comedy punk show on the 17th.
And we will be doing a night of tribute stand-up on October 29th,
paying homage to dead comedians and comedians whose careers are dead.
And that is at the Auto Bar's Halloween show.
And we'll have a nice Halloween tie-in.
Everybody's dressing up and stuff. Very nice. they'll have a nice Halloween tie-in. Everybody's dressing up

Let's get into this episode with Mr. JT Habersack.
We love you.
We love you. Hello. Hey, JT. Hey, man. How's it going? Good, man. This is Josh, and I'm here with my co-host, Mike. Hola.
Can you hear me okay? I'm hungover in Mobile, Alabama.
Yeah, man. We can hear you. We're hungover in Baltimore, Maryland.
Excellent.
Nah, we're okay. I just had some eggs. We're actually having a nice, productive morning here in Baltimore.
Yes.
Friends was on the television.
What's a productive Baltimore morning?
What's a productive Baltimore morning on a Saturday?
What are you guys up to?
Well, you make some eggs
and you watch a rerun of Friends.
And then from there, it's just gravy.
Oh, Jesus.
Relatively speaking,
that's pretty good for a Baltimore morning.
Yeah, that's pretty good
to the alternative of doing heroin
and that's it.
Good option. Yeah, that's pretty good to the alternative of doing heroin and that's it. Good option.
Yeah, man.
Well, thanks for taking the time out to talk to us.
How long have you been doing the tour?
It's the Altercation Punk Comedy Tour.
You'll be coming to Baltimore this Friday, October 17th at Zissimos.
Mike and I will be doing that show.
Yes, very excited yeah yeah man i want to ask
you all about it because i think it's so awesome that you just kind of got your friends together
and then you just decided to go all up all around the country like i think that would be one of the
funnest things yeah man it was you know there's obviously a lot of explaining that goes into it. This run is like three, seven straight shows.
So it's a degree of hook and rein advance and all that sort of good shit.
But yeah, we're stoked to get back to Baltimore.
We've always had really fun times at the sidebar. I know this time around, the devil himself rented it out for a filming thing, so we moved venues.
Yeah, I don't know what you did to piss Kevin Spacey off, but...
We have history.
I'm sure you did.
That's cool. We're excited to see...
I was really looking forward to Sidebar, as usual, but it's always cool to play new places, too.
So we're stoked.
Yeah, yeah.
It's been too long.
Yeah, Sidebar is a great spot.
It's actually pretty cool that House of Cards is using it,
but yeah, it sucks the venue had to be changed.
Yeah, no, it's totally cool.
There's worse reasons.
That's the best reason I've had for a venue to change.
All right, Kevin Spacey.
Okay, Netflix, you can do that if you want.
Right.
Yes.
All right.
Yeah.
How long has the tour been going on?
How many cities are you guys doing overall?
Or how many shows, rather?
Jesus.
Yeah, we're about five or six shows in.
Myself, a.k.a. White Cotton, who's my primary on this, is on every day with me,
and we're doing, I think it's like 36 shows in a row.
Wow.
So we're hitting, right now,
we're in the South.
We did Pensacola last night.
We're in Mobile tonight.
And then we hit Gainesville on Sunday,
and then go up the East Coast,
through the Carolinas and everything,
and eventually end up in Chicago with Junior Stocker for Halloween,
and then down through Memphis, and everything finally ended up,
fun, fun, fun, just in Austin in early November.
So it's a show every night with no nights off.
Holy shit.
That's the way to do it, man.
That's how I would do it.
Jesus.
But that's, I mean, that's pretty brutal,
especially when you add drinking into the mix. Let would do it. Jesus. But that's, I mean, that's pretty brutal, especially when you add drinking into the mix.
Well, drinking never not figures into the mix.
I'm an old black flag kid.
It's like, if you're not doing a show, then there's no reason for a night off if we can get a gig.
I'd rather work.
There's a reason we're out here.
Yeah, that's cool.
And, you know, fortunately,
you know,
sometimes trying to route a Monday
in Georgia
isn't the easiest thing
but fortunately
there was enough interest
that we were able
to,
you know,
make it work.
And,
you know,
that also makes
for some bizarre stories
because,
you know,
we're doing it
at all ages,
no drinking policy
DIY joint
in Erie,
Pennsylvania on a Monday later in the month and I have no idea what the fuck that's going to be. no drinking policy DIY joint in Erie, Pennsylvania
on a Monday later in the month
and I have no idea what the fuck that's going to be.
So, if nothing else, even if it's a bad show,
we'll get the good story out of it.
Yeah, well, I just hope you guys don't wake up
in a tub of ice or anything afterwards.
Right.
Yeah.
Well, we'll see.
But far so good.
If that's going to happen, I think it'd be this week, because there are some scary places
in the South.
So far, everything's been real cool.
Yeah, it's always doing danger to the Spoon, but it's been great so far, so no complaints.
Speaking of Black Flag, you've actually opened for Rollins.
Yeah, that's true, yes.
As far as I know, he's never had an opener for his speaking dates before.
How did that happen?
Yeah, that's also true.
He rarely lets anybody do that.
And how it worked out, I had done some shows on the Warped Tour way back when.
One year they had comedy on it.
Wow, I don't even remember that.
That's crazy.
Exactly, yeah.
2007, and there was six comics on it.
I was one of the six, and I did like two weeks of it,
and everybody else did the whole thing.
And, yeah, the other guys kind of terrified children,
and that was the last they ever did it.
My buddy Matt Lindsay, who I work with as much as I can,
he's in New York right now, but, you know,
it was a lot of very no-holds-barred material,
and I guess a lot of Midwestern mothers got up to that material.
Just bring on SR-71.
Right.
But what happened there was, you know,
I got to be kind of buddies with Kevin Lyman, who runs the Warped Tour, and he's always been very, very cool to me.
And the Warped Tour was having a 4th of July bash in Austin with the band Gallows, who you may be familiar with, who are not really active anymore.
Yeah, are they like a British hardcore band?
Yes, they're a fantastic British hardcore band.
Their singer, Frank Quick,
and they have a new singer guy now
who I'm not really into,
but they were a fantastic band.
And it was Gallows and Rollins doing Spoken Word
and they asked me to open the show.
That's awesome.
Yeah, it was kind of a perfect storm
once in a lifetime opportunity.
Rob's was cool
shit to me and watched my whole set from the
side stage. He was very
supportive.
He gave me some cool advice.
I had interviewed him before so
we knew each other a little bit.
Yeah, he's great.
He sent me a very nice little put this in your press kit I interviewed him before, so we knew each other a little bit. Yeah, he's great.
He sent me a very nice little put-this-in-your-press-kit quote from a Rollins quote.
We'll go on the poster.
Really?
He specifically gave you one?
What's that? He specifically gave you a quote so you could use it?
Well, you know, we were talking or whatever.
I was just talked about promo
stuff and i emailed him after just said thanks a lot and uh i was putting my press kit together
and i said here use this oh nice right on awesome i would just use that for everything like like
going to get a cup of coffee like you know what henry rollins has to say about me
and i'll take and i'll take a grande pumpkin spice, please. Thank you very much.
Yeah, exactly.
He was very, very cool.
Yeah, he seems like an awesome guy.
We saw him when he came through Baltimore a couple years ago.
Yeah, like two and a half years ago. Yeah, just the energy that guy has.
He just nonstop talking for like two hours.
It's insane.
Dude, it's almost too much.
Because I've seen him so many times back in the day.
I've seen him do three-hour shows with one sip of water.
Right, yeah.
Jesus Christ.
But, you know, it's never boring.
Yeah.
And often wickedly funny.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Almost unfair.
I will always take good things about Rollins.
Yeah, yeah, exactly exactly I was going to say
it's almost unfair how funny he is
and interesting
it is too bad that he's so lazy though
yeah
yeah for real
he needs to work out more
he needs to work out more
he needs to be nicer to fans
speaking of
speaking of if you're on the road
what does that do to your health
is this the first time you've done a tour like this
you said you did the Warped Tour
this is definitely not the first time
I've done a tour like this
it's been a while since I've done one this long
I've been doing over the last few years
as you hack up a lung.
As I hack up a lung.
The last few years,
I've been doing a lot of fly-out gigs
where I fly out,
I tour around for a week
and then fly back, you know?
And we did punk rock bowling this year
out in Vegas
and that was a two and a half week run.
And yeah, basically, you know, it had been too long since I've done a really long tour.
And so I said, all right, I got to jump at it and just get back in the van.
So, I mean, I first started the tour in 2008.
We did five week runs a lot, you know.
Right.
But, you know, in terms of what it does to your health, you know, last night we tied
one on pretty good
but we're all
adults in our 30s
so it's
the worst thing in the world when you're on a tour
is to lose your voice
I gotta be real careful
mainly post show
not blah blah blah
loud party voice
I never actually thought about that before
what happens when a comedian loses her voice on a tour?
It sucks.
It's essentially your job.
I had that happen actually.
Can you like lip sync
to a CD?
Wait, sorry about that, J2.
What did you say?
We hit the desert
and whatever,
you know,
the combination of just
the air out there
being super dry.
I got a ton of nosebleeds,
and my voice was really shot by the time we hit Tucson.
Jesus.
And, yeah, you know, a lot of fishermen's friend.
And, I mean, I had a nosebleed when we were in Arizona
in Walgreens.
I thought I was going to die.
Which is a great headline, you know,
tweeting on the way to Las Vegas
story writes itself
and then the Henry Rollins quote
yeah
put the Henry Rollins quote
on my tombstone
yeah exactly
fucking
Rollins take back his quote
because he takes up doing bloke
but it's
you know it's like anything else.
You've just got to pay yourself.
And this long of a run is definitely a marathon and not a race, you know?
Yeah, yeah.
And, yeah, I was looking at your Twitter feed earlier.
Do you have family back home as well now?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I mean, I got, you know, I'm married.
I got a house, all that shit.
And that makes it got, you know, I'm married, I got a house, all that shit. And that makes it difficult, you know.
But at the same point, you know, my wife's very supportive of it and knows it, you know, makes me happy.
And I have a lot of family out east in New York.
My folks are out there.
So, you know, we got friends everywhere by this point, too.
You know, in Gainesville, we're going to hang with Bill from the Bell Tones.
He moved down there, so
it's not like it's, you know,
a Bob Seger song every night.
Encountering
angry, long-haired locals.
Right, right.
Didn't you just...
Wasn't there something recently
joking about you
quoting Bob Seger lyrics on stage?
Oh, God, yeah.
I think that was on my record.
I think that was an off-the-cuff.
It's on your permanent record.
If you turn the page, you'll horrify yourself.
Lonely out there.
Last night, actually, we were all hammered and got in the van,
and fucking Journey came on, and it was like this weird movie moment.
It's like, God, this is so corny, but it fits so well.
Highway, run!
That's one of the few things I miss about drinking,
is like three in the morning, singing some horrible song together
and getting completely passionate about it,
throwing your hands to the sky.
Fucking Steve Perry gets it man
he gets it
you know it'll make you
appreciate terrible music
yeah I think
the last time I did that me and my friends
had a running joke of getting drunk and
listening to Stains It's Been A While
and just
Jesus yeah you like some candles and punch your girlfriend
that's terrible
no just trying to say it's been a while, as ridiculous as possible.
Like, it's been a while.
Yeah.
Anything off the Scorpion King soundtrack is great.
There's got to be a Godsmack song on that.
It has to be.
Yeah, exactly.
We put on Voodoo and just go nuts.
It's a lot of fun.
Oh, Christ.
Wow.
Knowing all the names of this shit.
So, yeah, obviously with the punk tie-in, did you play in bands coming up?
You know, I did.
I was in a band called Goblet for a while, which was like a Dungeons & Dragons, spinal tap band.
It doesn't sound too punk-like. Yeah, it was straight up like a GWAR side Dragons final tap band. It doesn't sound too punk rock.
Yeah, it was straight up like a
GWAR type thing.
Yeah, I played in this band
called 20 Sided Die.
It was pretty awesome.
Oh, well there you go.
You're picking up the gist.
Yeah.
You know, we had Fire and
fucking Dragons and all sorts of crazy shit. And, you know, we opened Fire and fucking Dragons and all sorts of crazy shit.
And, you know, we opened for Bad Brains.
We actually opened for GWAR.
Cool.
And that was fun, but it was limited in terms of, you know,
some of the guys in the band had kids and stuff.
Right.
Couldn't really tour.
And I was also doing a lot of show promotion,
like putting on punk rock shows around New York.
So, yeah, that was kind of my intro to the world of it, more or less.
And, you know, people always ask about the punk angle of the tour, which is expected,
but it's really more about just the, you know, the get-in-the-van work ethic
and the rebellious attitude we bring more than, you know, none of us have a mohawk or any shit like that.
Right.
It's really about doing the work
for us. Yeah, kind of that thing
of just doing it yourself, kind of carving
out your own path, which is really cool.
Like, I'm going to book all the
shows and load up the van and we're
all going to just go do the show. You know what I mean?
Like, nobody's waiting for us, so let's just
go do it.
That's exactly right.
Playing alternative venues like Ty Bar
and stuff is where it's at for us.
Comedy clubs right now,
when we do do them, because it happens,
they treat us well
and it's fun generally, but
it's got to be on our terms as far as
a lot of clubs will make you,
you can't curse this much, you can't talk about this or you know and the audience can sometimes be you know a
couple out on date night eating chicken wings while you're trying to do some shit
right i'd rather play to 20 kids in an all ages joint that are going to get it and really you
know stick with you than some people that are just out for a comedy date night and like, oh, let's go see whoever the comedian is.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, yeah.
Ultimately, it's a little more difficult initially,
but at this point, fortunately, people kind of know about it
and it's been going good.
That's awesome, man.
Yeah, the Thursday show at the Green Room
in the Arlington Draft House, that'll be cool, too.
That's a fun spot.
Is it? Yeah, we've never been to Arlington, so yeah, I'm excited for thatraft House. That'll be cool, too. That's a fun spot. Is it?
Yeah, we've never been to Arlington, so, yeah, I'm excited for that.
The cool thing on this run, too, is, yeah, it's a lot of places.
Either I haven't been in literally years or it's the first time we're getting there.
So, you know, we're doing Raleigh.
Never done Raleigh before.
You know, Gainesville, we did the fest a few years ago,
but it's been way too long since we got back there.
So, yeah, no, we're looking forward to few years ago, but it's been way too long since we got back there.
So, yeah, no, we're looking forward to all the shows.
Keeps it interesting.
Very cool.
Okay, so did you start out in New York?
Because I know you're based out of Austin now, right?
Yeah, yeah, I'm a New Yorker. I lived in New York my whole life up until about nine years ago.
And we've been to Austin for South south best and stuff and really dug it
my wife got a good job offer down there so we uh we picked up and moved and uh yeah but i'm a new
york kid man i i you know used to go to cbgb's all the time and the first time i got on a comic
stage was 16 in new york city so yeah i'm an I still have that. Fuck you, get out of my way
out of here.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm touring
with love
calling me a
Yankee, which
is fucking
hilarious.
This Yankee
with all his
teeth.
Look at him.
Yeah, look at
him.
Thinking he's
better than us.
With his
tolerance.
Yeah.
Wearing pants in public like he's the governor or something you probably don't think
the civil war was about states rights yeah exactly um so when uh yeah i was checking out your podcast
man the road podcast and uh i think it's really good man like uh it's cool to just hear a different
perspective from other dudes and you know the road stories and all that stuff.
I liked your, what were you guys calling it?
The Swapcast with Doug Stanhope.
I remember.
Yeah, Swapcast.
Doug coined that term.
Yes, he's very proud.
He's like, it's a Swapcast, you know?
Comedians will just share a podcast.
It's a Swapcast.
It's like, all right, Doug, you can have that you can have that but uh when did you uh when did you hook
up with that guy because he seems like one of like the most uh like the coolest genuine dudes
especially like especially the comics just seems like such a nice guy
yeah he's great i mean the uh i'm glad you actually brought that up because my i guess
my brain is still top webbed this morning but uh you know doug sandhub celebrity death pool is presenting
all of our gigs they're like official sponsor of the tour can you uh can you explain what the uh
celebrity death pool is i guess it kind of the name kind of explains it but uh i know
it's a website basically it grew out of you know of Super Bowl parties that we've been to a few times.
And, you know, everything, they bet on everything.
You know, it's a blast.
It just turned into a legal Vegas at his house for a little kid.
And, yeah, they started, my buddy Joby, they started betting on when celebrities would die.
Essentially.
And so they started this
website, Doug Stano,
Celebrity Death Pool, and you can, you know,
for entertainment purposes only,
not get bettied, right?
Cordium Glove must get a lot of votes.
It's like fantasy football, but
with, you know, you ghoulishly try and determine who's going to die
Right right
I guess yeah
They must have been like
God damn it I should have had Joan Rivers
God damn it
Right exactly
Yeah I thought about Mr. Drummond
I know that sounds bad
How many times has Scott Weiland let you down?
Oh right
One can only imagine
But yeah no Doug's been fantastic I just did a show with him like two weeks ago you down. Oh, right. One can only imagine. But, yeah,
Doug's been
fantastic.
I just did a
show with him
like two weeks
ago, and he
has been nothing
but cool to me.
I kind of call
him my comedy
Yoda by this
point because
he's given me
a lot of really
good advice and
just, you know,
just been a real
big kind of
cheerleader for
what I'm trying
to do.
And, you know,
like I said,
doing a lot of shows with Junior Stopko,
who opened for Doug all of last year.
And he actually was kind of a catalyst.
He kind of called Junior and I out and said,
you guys need to tour together.
I'm in my wake, you know, like step up
to his fucking three million Twitter followers
or whatever.
And we said, okay, we better do this.
Yeah.
But, you know,
it's a good
confidence builder too
when somebody
like,
believes in you,
that matters a lot.
You know,
it's a good way
to kick you in the ass.
Yeah,
yeah,
I like to,
a better example
than somebody
who did it
on his own terms
because he does not
give a fuck.
no.
Yeah,
because he did a lot
of the DIY stuff too,
like a lot of his tours
where he didn't do any comedy clubs and was doing the rock bars and all that stuff.
Yeah, Doug actually was one of the very first pioneers to tell the clubs, go fuck yourself.
You know, just basically saw the, you know, the financial benefit, too, of, you know, I could have a week-long residency at a club
and get X amount of money,
or I can do one show where all my fans show up
and it's the same amount of money.
So you're doing one night of work
and playing to all the people that want to see you.
You know, so that's why we do one-nighters too.
We try to make it an event, you know,
rather than, you know, be trapped in Columbus, Ohio
for five days.
At a chuckle hut, Ohio for five days. Had a chuckle.
I started doing shows
with Doug about 2009
or so and we just hit it off
and whenever he comes to town we hang out
and whenever I'm in Arizona we hang out
at his place.
The podcast has been going really good, man. Thank you for that.
Yeah, that's awesome.
It seems like every comic has a podcast so been going really good man thank you for that yeah that's awesome i i was
you know it seems like every comic has a podcast so i was really dragging sheet everybody's like
you need to do one i'm like i don't wanna mainly because everybody has one but uh once i started it
and uh got it rolling it's been actually really fun and i've been pretty shocked by how quickly
it's kind of taken off so it's good it's fun yeah yeah we we kind of had the same thing of just I'm sure every podcaster does now
just like oh there's already so many but it's honestly like just a really cool way to talk to
people yeah and like it's a good way for me to interact with human beings yeah it's a good way
for us to talk talk to people outside of the sometimes. In the safety of our own home.
Yes.
Get some air.
It's like I have friends for an hour every week.
Yeah.
It's definitely, it's cool that it's, you know, free and everybody can get it.
It's a great, you know, way to build fan bases more, you know, just people.
Sure.
I've already seen the results of it on this tour,
people that listen to the podcast and stuff,
so it's,
it's cool,
man,
it's fun.
Yeah,
excellent,
excellent,
yeah,
and I like Doug supporting you guys by kicking you guys out of the nest,
I was listening to the podcast,
and he was like,
he's like,
you guys would feature,
you guys would,
you guys would feature for me forever,
which,
which would be great,
but you need to get out there,
and you're headliners in your own right, so do it on your own yeah yeah and that's exactly you know
that that was a large part in this tour you know because you know man i'm like i said late 30s
yeah you need some somebody playing a fire on your ass to say let's book five weeks
yeah you know yeah he's like but i want to hang out with you yeah sorry god i was saying
it's just like but i want to hang out with you doug like now go do it yourself yeah i mean it's
it's that's exactly right i mean he explained it better than i could but uh you know the show we
did together last week or two weeks ago was you know 900 people yeah and uh you know that that's
an energy that's you can easily get addicted to
because people are fucking stoked in it.
It makes you become a better comic in that, you know,
you better have your shit together in front of 900 rabid Stanhope fans.
Mm-hmm.
But, yeah, you know, pretty much what he said.
He wants Junior and I to kind of get out there and, you know,
do a build towards what he's doing.
Yeah.
And you can't do that when there's a crowd delivered to you.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, exactly.
What?
There's not 900 people.
What the hell's going on?
Yeah.
We call it bullshit.
There hasn't been 900 people every night.
It's kind of fucked up, actually.
I'd love to do that.
Right.
Is that the biggest crowd you've performed for?
Actually, no.
We do pretty well with festivals.
I mean, punk rock, that's mine.
Punk rock bowling this week, this year, was 600 people.
I'm going to fight you for my apple pie, Charlie. And we did Fun for Fun Fest, and that was 1,100 people last time.
Jesus Christ.
That's a lot of people.
Yeah.
But I always tell people, too, that big of a crowd gets me stoked like i i uh you know it's it's it's it's definitely uh easier to get
psyched up and then try and deliver when there's that many fucking people looking at you i get
nervous when there's 10 people yeah yeah i'm like buddy you know because it's all energy man it's
right you feed off what they give you yeah Yeah, and with the smaller crowds,
you definitely have to,
you can't have any artifice there.
Like, no, that's just a dude.
That's just a dude in the room.
But if there's a thousand people
and you're on a stage,
you can kind of play into that like,
hey, I'm this larger than life guy.
But if there's nine people in a bar,
they're like, no, you're not any better than me, bro.
That's why I tell the audience
over and over,
I'm better than you.
But also,
you know,
if you have 1100 people
watching you
and they're going to see
fucking,
you know,
Murder City Devils next
or Danzig
across the way,
you better not suck.
Just come out
with your shirt off.
Woo!
Yeah,
exactly.
Some fans for our hair. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Some fans for our hair.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Screaming some dick jokes.
Uh-huh.
Yeah.
Man, well, let's see here.
Let's see here.
So the tour is going well.
You're enjoying it.
Ultimately...
So far, so good.
So far, so good.
Can you tell me just some crazy road stories?
Just anything crazy happened so far on this tour?
I know you're only a few dates in, but...
Yeah, this tour has been relatively calm in that regard, which is cool.
We actually, well, Jay Whitecott and I were at a Waffle House the other night,
and this cop tasered his breakfast.
That was entertaining.
Aw.
We were sitting there like two in the morning
we were
we turned around
and he was just like
sorry my eggs need to
warm it up
no way
yes
that really happened
that was
that was something
did he spice up his
eggs with his pepper spray too
mm-mm
mm-mm
yeah
yeah right
he should have pepper sprayed
on the fish
I just want to impress
these like lady EMTs
and uh I don't know you impressed me I've never seen that before yeah Yeah, right, you should have pepper sprayed on the teeth. I just want to impress these, like, lady EMTs.
And, uh, I don't know, you impressed me.
I've never seen that before.
He's like, no, bring my eggs. You know, I mean, back in the day when it was a little more, you know,
unknown of a thing, people were like, you know,
punk comedy in a punk club, what the fuck is that?
We did a West Coast show at a costume shop
and uh
the lead singer
we were playing
with this
Misfits cover band
and uh
we didn't know
they had all
just gotten out
of prison
and the guy
we had opening
insulted his girlfriend
and the entire
crowd that had
previously loved us
like ran us
out of town
and they were all
in costumes
so it was fucking the most insane thing.
It's like driving a car out of town
as fast as we can with kids in werewolf costumes
chasing us throwing rocks at our cars.
Wow.
How the tides have turned.
Yeah, I mean,
the only way to get those stories is to go on the road, that's for sure.
Right, right, right.
Man.
It's rarely boring.
What's that? It's rarely boring yeah yeah do you feel like you've chilled out like as you've gotten older you're like i'm in my late 30s now i just want to get
a good night's sleep and find a nice place to take uh take a poop uh yeah there's definitely
something to be said for that yeah uh yeah i mean uh i have texas is choking
on good way to a certain degree of you know my east coast it probably added five years to my
life because i'm not as much of a fucking rage maniac as i was in new york um but yeah you know
it's we like to drink and have a good time and everything, but, you know, fucking 40 shows or whatever, man,
you can't just, you know, burn it to the end.
Every night you'll die.
Yeah.
No nights off.
So we try and be reasonable adults.
Exactly.
And I do like to, you know, sleep.
Yeah.
So, you know, we usually get into the hotel and kind of chill out and have a good time
at the shows, you know?
Right, right.
Well, that's awesome, man.
Well, thanks for talking to us, man.
Yeah, thanks, man.
This has been fun, man.
And, yeah, we're looking forward to seeing you guys.
Yeah, same here, man.
Yeah, yeah, if you're ever coming back through and doing a tour again,
feel free to do the podcast again,
and we'd love to interview you in person, too, man.
Yeah, no, right on, dude.
I mean, if you're at, you know,
I'm assuming you're going to be in Baltimore,
you know, if you want to do another one,
I'll try and be coherent.
If you're not here, whatever.
Yeah.
But, yeah, no, we're stoked to get back to Baltimore,
for sure, and looking forward to seeing
all of the comics you guys have there.
It's been too long, so...
Cool, man. Thanks for your interest. Yeah, no, dude your interest yeah no dude this is i just think it's so cool it's really
inspiring just to like uh just to know that this is possible and there's people out there doing
that because like i started out playing in bands and that was always my dream just to like get in
a van with your friends and just travel around like playing the music and doing doing the shows
would be really fun but just kind of hanging with your friends
going to each town
seems like a fucking blast.
Yeah,
no,
it is.
But it's also,
you know,
it's my only job
these days
is comedy
so it's,
you know,
we take it serious
and have a good time
and all that shit
but it's like anything else
you gotta work.
You know,
you gotta,
as much,
you're willing to work is as much as the benefits are gonna pay off for that. You know, you gotta as much, you're willing to work
as much as the benefits are gonna pay off
you can go out and do just a weekend
and have a great time and see some new cities
but going out for five straight weeks
is uh
it's definitely like a
marathon, not a sprint
right, right, yeah I got you
it's like as fun as it is, it's still
this is a job, this is a grind
we're driving a shit ton yeah, the driving can definitely Right, right. Yeah, I got you. Yeah, it's like as fun as it is, it's still, this is a job. This is a grind.
We're driving.
We're driving a shit ton. Yeah, the driving can definitely be a toll, you know.
But, you know, the exciting thing, too, is, man, you know, for me, getting to see new comics in each city, you know, that's fucking cool.
Because otherwise I would not, you know.
So, you know, we're comedy fans, and it's cool to meet new folks. and, you know, the best way to do that is just to get in there and go.
Yeah, hell yeah, man.
Well, yeah, so the show is this Friday, October 17th at Zissamos in Baltimore.
