Starting point is 00:00:00 hey everybody i'm josh kaderna and i'm mike moran and you're listening to the digression sessions podcast a baltimore-based comedy talk show hosted by two young, handsome stand-up comedians slash improvisers. Join us every week as we journey through the world of comedy and the bizarreness of existence. As we interview local and non-local comedians, writers, musicians, and anyone else we find creative and interesting. Yes. Oh, yeah. Who's the guest this week? Anyone else we find creative and interesting? Yes. Who's the guest this week?
Starting point is 00:00:51 I've just literally been eating pizza for the past two days for the most part. Really? Not on purpose, but Friday. Actually, Friday I had a bagel, coffee, black bean burger, and then I ate pizza for dinner. And then yesterday I went to my dad's and I usually go get pizza while we're there. But then I went to Bethesda to do a show after that. And then to Hamden. So I had pizza there.
Starting point is 00:01:19 And then on the way back from Bethesda, I still had pizza in my car. So I ate a piece of that. And then at the house party show last night, guess what showed up at the end of the night after I've been drinking all night? Chili? Pizza! Pizza. So pizza in the morning, pizza in the evening.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Yeah. And even at supper time. Even at supper time. Yeah, yeah. And it was, my poop reflects all the pizza I've been eating. I'll tell you that. Yeah, your poop is a reflection of your pizza. It really is.
Starting point is 00:01:46 That's what they say. That's in the Bible. Sure. That is in the Bible. It's a mirror image. You poop what you eat. You are what you poop. You reap what you sow.
Starting point is 00:01:57 You reap what you poop. We'll figure it out in the post. The digression sessions. Welcome, everybody. No guests. It's going to. Welcome, everybody. No guests. It's going to be just Mike and I just hanging, hanging in the basement. That's more than enough for me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:13 That's more than enough for most. It's more than you deserve, quite frankly, dickheads. You pieces of shit. What? They're all SOBs. Follow us. Just for recording. What? They're all SOBs Josh we're recording What? They're all SOBs Follow us on Twitter and Instagram
Starting point is 00:02:29 I'm on both of those platforms As Josh Coderna We got a Facebook site We got a Facebook website I believe is what the kids are saying Is that a www or Yeah yeah http://
Starting point is 00:02:44 Just ask the librarian She'll help you find it Yeah yeah you can find us in the Dewey Decimal System Is that a www or? Yeah, yeah. HTTP colon slash slash. Just ask the librarian. She'll help you find it. Yeah, yeah. You can find us in the Dewey Decimal System. So, yeah, find us on there and, yeah, like our page and message us. I like getting feedback from people that, you know, are checking out the episodes. Everybody was really cool about the David Koechner episode.
Starting point is 00:03:01 That was fun to hear reactions. Yeah, it was. Valence Michael, a comedian here in baltimore he was like hearing you guys wrestle with some of the funniest shit ever it was fun to listen back to that hear the audio of wrestling with david so it's just surreal you know just like is this happening yeah it's just really being wrestled by the guy from anchorman in his hotel room trying to put me in a full nelson yeah that's great he had such a great attitude towards everything everything yeah every comic in dc uh like arlington area anybody that ran into him had nothing but glowing things to say
Starting point is 00:03:38 about him yeah i think somebody i saw something on facebook like uh somebody wrote like david keckner just kissed me on the lips or something like that and then somebody wrote I wish he lived in DC all the time and then somebody underneath that wrote
Starting point is 00:03:51 well he does now in our hearts which is actually like kind of true it's like he's just this magical man that came in for a second to make everybody's lives
Starting point is 00:03:59 better like okay bye Dave he flies away with his umbrella yeah changing our lives forever uh so yeah i hope you guys enjoyed that episode and uh harry condobolo is coming to town and he's bringing uh liz mealy with him past guest uh of the show so we're going to try to interview those guys as well
Starting point is 00:04:20 and uh keep the party train rolling um but before we get to some business here about you and I, what we've been up to, a little catch-up dig sesh. Plug your social media-ish. I am on Twitter at Mike Moranwood. It's W-O-U-L-D. I know. And that's it. And I'm on Facebook.
Starting point is 00:04:45 Hell yeah. I should be published in the it. And I'm on Facebook. Hell yeah. I should be published in the Skeptical Inquirer sometime soon for our listeners across the pond. The podcast go across the ocean. What? They have like ships that like. Carry them. Yeah. Like they bring the reels of tape.
Starting point is 00:05:00 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Across the ocean. They play them at cinemas. Right. Like more coal. We need to get the podcast to harbor. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Across the ocean. They play them at cinemas in England. Right. They're like, more coal. We need to get these podcasts to harbor.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Yeah. So you ever heard about the British podcast riots? Yeah, where they threw podcasts in the harbor. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, they're so mad. Some shows to plug. Maybe I'm ambushing you with this that's all right but uh just i got some
Starting point is 00:05:27 stuff in uh september that i want to plug because i think everything i mean there might be some stuff here and there in august go to digression sessions.com slash calendar we try to update that with shows and we also post about them on our facebook uh, so check that out. But let's see. On September 4th, I will be doing stand-up in D.C. at the Salty Dog Tavern, I believe. It's going to be a showcase show. That will be on the website for details. On the 8th, I'll be at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, hosting a stand-up show there. And then September 10th through the 12th, I'll be hosting at Magoobie's for comedian Jimmy Dore.
Starting point is 00:06:12 So, yeah. So, some things are going down in September. All right. Michael? I will be, this is August 19th, I'll be hosting at the Oyster House in Bel Air. And then the 28th of August, we will be doing a benefit show at the Mercury in Baltimore. 8 o'clock. It is a benefit for kind of after school program for the kids. Oh, cool.
Starting point is 00:06:41 Buy some supplies. Is that stand up or improv? It will be stand up. Cool. Yes. Let me know. I would like to do that. Oh, cool. Buy some supplies. Is that stand-up or improv? It will be stand-up. Cool. Yes. Let me know. I would like to do that. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:06:48 Yeah. Okay. I thought the guy asked you, actually. You think I don't like fucking charity? No, I know, but the guy running it wanted to get you, and I was like,
Starting point is 00:06:55 yeah, ask him. Oh, okay. Yeah, he didn't. Maybe he did or didn't. Did you know on Facebook, in your message section, you have messages and then other. So when you get messages from people that you're not friends with, it goes into the section of other.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Really? Yeah. So I could have a whole barrage of ex-girlfriends begging me. I'm going to say, not could, definitely do. Really? Yeah. But you have to check it on the, you can't do it on your phone. It has to be on the old laptop.
Starting point is 00:07:27 I probably won't do that. You got to go to the desktop site. So when is that, the 28th? 28th, yes. I'm going to put that in, right? You can probably perform if you want to. Right, goddamn now. Benefit show, benefit show.
Starting point is 00:07:40 Just kind of keep repeating that, Phil. Just dead air. Benefit show. That's your warm up. Bene dead air. Benefit show. That's your warm-up. Benefit show. Benefit show. Show benefit. Show.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Show benefit. The benefit for the show. Yeah, I want to try to get a series of benefit shows going, possibly at the Mercury. That'd be awesome. Maybe a monthly or bi-monthly or decade-ly. Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Every little bit counts. you know uh all right
Starting point is 00:08:07 well let's uh let's let's do a little catch up here what do you what have you been doing what have you been up to oh man i've been sick yeah sick the last few days i feel like i should uh i remember when i was sick on this podcast i feel like i should give you a little a taste of your own medicine which you gave me hand it to me you ready You ready? All right, let's take that from the top. Let's just say you say you're sick. I'm sick again. Yeah, you look it. You don't look good.
Starting point is 00:08:32 You know what, Josh? You know what? I think once you get in your late 20s, every time you get sick, you just end up looking worse. And you never regain. Below the belt. Below the belt. That's what you told me i would never ever say anything that cruel it was a week after i was like we did a podcast i was like i'm feeling
Starting point is 00:08:53 better you're like i don't know man i got this theory like every time you get sick in your late 20s like you just stay like that yeah you're like you just kind of lose a little bit and you don't get it back it's like jesus christ my dude i can say that you're you're above me in that capacity it still hurts well you shouldn't you've got good looking privilege hey you're a handsome man you're younger you're better i'm not complaining i do fine but uh i'll tell you man it is fucking disturbing to like look in the mirror and see things. The sentence just ended there. You ever look in one of those things?
Starting point is 00:09:30 Terrifying. It is weird to just look in the mirror and be like, that thing wasn't there before, and it's not going anywhere. Are you talking about your face? Where did that come from? You mean like a mole or something? Yeah, just like bumps just appear, and it's like when you're younger, they go away. Now it's just like like bumps just appear and it's like when you're younger they go away yeah it's just like they're just there forever yeah i had a i i was uh i was trying to go running like three or four times a week and then my knee started to hurt
Starting point is 00:09:56 and it's still i would be like oh i'd kind of be used to it like you know you go for a run and then maybe afterwards you're a little sore right and then the next day you're fine right but i think i'm as i'm approaching 30 the the uh the types of things where when you fuck something up you're like oh this might just stay fucked up like i'm really really worried that knee pain when i'm 28 yeah when i'm 68 is going to be unbearable dude i have to take such better care of myself than i did when i was younger yeah like so much more yeah like it's and it's yeah it's crazy like it's just uh it's weird how it's like you kind of just peak at like 25 but then you have like at least like 60 more years to go yeah like if things if things have gotten as bad as they have from like 28 till now for me like what's three more decades gonna do you know yeah uh it's it's gonna
Starting point is 00:10:48 be terrible especially since i haven't been to the doctor since like the 80s well that means you got a clean bill of health technically yeah it's true you don't know that anything's wrong with you yeah as long as i don't know like mr burns when he's like i'm invincible he's like no no no no the slightest gust of wind. Invincible. Yeah. Because all those diseases and infections were trying to get through the door at the same time. So they clogged up. So they're getting clogged.
Starting point is 00:11:14 So I'm invincible. No, ever since I saw that NWA movie, too, I think I'm going to die every time I start coughing. Have you seen the NWA movie? Oh, hell yeah, I've seen the NWA movie. I saw it the day it came out. Really? Is it good?
Starting point is 00:11:25 I was really looking forward to it. I like stuff like that. I thought it was great. I think it's one of the best music biopics I've ever seen. It looks really good. I was kind of worried when I found out that initial reports of Ice Cube and Dr. Dre are the executive producers. I was kind of worried it was going to be a fluff piece and then Ice Cube's son playing
Starting point is 00:11:42 It kind of is a little bit, honestly. That's one of the only... there's definitely some flaws in it. And one is that it definitely makes Ice Cube and Dr. Dre out to be these heroes. And just complete – like you can't talk about NWA without talking about misogyny. And they just completely just go over it. Really? They just don't even mention it. What about MC Ren?
Starting point is 00:11:59 Does he get short shrift? MC Ren is in it a lot for being MC Ren. Shout out to MC Ren. And MC Stimpy. He does okay. No Arabian Prince, though. Really? There was a short-lived sixth member named the Arabian Prince who appears on the cover
Starting point is 00:12:14 of Straight Outta Compton. Does he? Yeah, and he's not in the movie at all. Wow. I mean, there's a bunch of guys in the background. I guess you assume he's one of them, but they never name him or anything. You got to check the credits and see if somebody's billed as arabian i'm sure there is yeah because there's like you know there's like random like there's like chuck d in the background at one point but it's like you know they don't
Starting point is 00:12:32 even bother to pronounce chuck d chuck d yeah yeah pretty sure uh no i'm not too familiar with uh with uh the nwa his uh catalog uh i know a couple songs, but you're a fan? I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm fanatical about him. Okay. But I do like... You know what I mean. Yeah, I would say overall I like NWA. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:00 But it's good. Film's good. Film is good. I would say it's on par with that James Brown movie that came out last year. Oh, I did not see that one. Also amazing. Yeah. It's weird that guy was in two big biopics.
Starting point is 00:13:11 I don't know his name, but the guy, he played James Brown, and then the year before he played Jackie Robinson. Oh, really? I didn't know that. Yeah. Yeah. I watched some of the Jackie Robinson movie. It was okay.
Starting point is 00:13:21 Yeah. I didn't think that looked very good. I didn't finish. I mean, yeah, it's kind of like your boilerplate kind of biopic and uh but yeah i mean still still an inspiring story uh speaking of films we were uh we were just filmed for a film were we yeah they were filming oh yeah all those cameras and lights now that's what that was for. We were in a film that's going to come out in November called Driven to Succeed. Yes. It was actually really nice.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Yeah, it was. Director Mark reached out to us on our Facebook page. Facebook page. And, yeah, he's shooting a movie. And then he wanted to use the podcast as kind of a plot point to explain, kind of narrate a little bit of what's going on in the movie and that was i was really flattered man yeah yeah it was great yeah so it's it's uh i it took a little while for me to get into the role of josh kaderna but i've been doing 28 years of method acting right and i feel like i feel like i kind of captured my essence yeah you did well yeah is it
Starting point is 00:14:22 okay if i go back to calling you bill now that you're out of character please please yeah i'm uh i'm offset so i kind of want to i'm john i'm bill i play the character of josh gederner on the digression sessions yeah um but yeah it sounds it sounds pretty good sounds like a good comedy and uh mike you had to watch some disturbing porn. I did. I did. And I'm glad that you were able to provide me with plenty of content. Well, Dave, he suggested it. He suggested the porn for you to watch. Oh, really? So you haven't watched it? No, I have not.
Starting point is 00:14:57 Oh, my God. I thought this was stuff you had seen before. I have not seen it. You son of a bitch. Josh made me watch the most horrific, disturbing, to call it porn would be like upgrading it. That would be giving it too much credit. This was like low art compared to porn. So in the movie.
Starting point is 00:15:17 I cannot believe you. In the movie, Mike has to, he's reacting to a sex tape that's gone viral and it's quite the depraved bit of film. And so to get honest reactions out of Mike, it was suggested that Mike watch, there's a whole series of them, but I believe they're entitled The Absurdities of Japanese Porn. And you watch The Absurdities of Japanese P and you watch the absurdities of japanese porn three and four there is a blender they blended up beetles yes it's disgusting it's horrible they blended up beetles into a juice to beetle juice beetle juice and then uh be able to watch beetle juice again and then a lady had to drink them. They both drank it.
Starting point is 00:16:07 Oh, great. Now I'm reliving it. You had to get those honest reactions, man. Honest. Honest. Honest. Honest. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:18 And the other one was no Walk in the Park either. Even though it was entitled Walk in the Park. Yes. But they somehow still shit out noodles. I don't think there was any shitting. That was pure puking. That's a double P film. Yeah, I enjoy that. It was fucking horrible.
Starting point is 00:16:32 Keep it pure, you know? And then they blur out the penis. That's the funny part. Yeah. You can't show a penis in Japanese porn. Well, I think you can show a penis. You just can't show insertion, I think. Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:43 Why? Why? What is that? i don't know but that's why they have so much uh weird shit because they have like animated stuff too so that's why you can animate it or like stupid instead of a penis going in it's an octopus tentacle or something yeah yeah well let's see do they actually use octopus tentacles? No. Okay. I can find some videos if you want to check them out. I bet you they do somewhere. Somewhere, probably. But when people joke about tentacle porn, I always assumed it was anime.
Starting point is 00:17:11 I'm pretty sure, yeah. But they can show anime insertion. I don't even know if they can do that. I've definitely seen it. You've definitely... Okay. Hey, hey. I'm not going to question your perclivity.
Starting point is 00:17:22 I assumed it was Japanese. Your perclivity's there for Japanese porn. Oh, God. I'm not going to question your perclivities. I assume it was Japanese. Your perclivities there for Japanese porn. Oh, God. That's disgusting. Yeah, I didn't know it existed. But Dave, one of the guys that was shooting, suggested for you to watch that video. And it seems like it worked out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:41 Worked out swimmingly. So the film's going to be called Driven to Succeed, and it's going to come out in November, and we're going to have them on to promote it. And it's going to premiere at the Patterson, at the Creative Alliance, and the Patterson here in Baltimore. So keep you guys posted on that.
Starting point is 00:18:01 I was in the Bahamas for a week, Michael. Yeah, how was that? It was amazing. It was so nice.. How was that? It was amazing. It was so nice. What was it like? Uh, it was, it was beautiful. It was, uh, there was, uh, yeah, we stayed at a resort. It was like all inclusive.
Starting point is 00:18:15 So you like food and drink was free. Like you already paid for it, which was nice. And, uh, we rented scooters, which was fun. Nice. You can just rent a scooter and uh there's no real training for it like they're like okay ride in a circle you're good and then you literally drive on like main drags of like the behind there isn't really like a highway per se but like the main road right speed limit's like 55 miles an hour but uh we're on scooters and ours were only in kilometers per hour but we
Starting point is 00:18:45 ended up going like 70 kilometers per hour which is like 40 or 45 miles per hour damn yeah helmets yeah yeah yeah we had helmets but it's really kind of dangerous it's just insane they're like okay do you have a license okay and then you're driving on the wrong side of the road too so you have to right yeah so you have to get used to that. But that was really fun. Sounds like the training for Uber. Yeah, like, okay, go ahead, take people to their destinations. Their final destinations.
Starting point is 00:19:17 Yeah, but no, man, it was beautiful. The water was crystal clear, and there were several pools at the resort, and there was a swim-up bar and stuff yeah yeah and you make it you make a social contract with everybody at the swim up bar that we're all just peeing in this pool really you know i think well i think that goes with most pools but especially ones where people are drinking all day in the pool it's i think it's assumed we're all peeing in there that's kind of disgusting but that's most pools people weren't getting out and peeing and i mean i got up and stood up and peed on the side of the pool i didn't want to be in the restrooms near the pool why don't they have a swim up toilet toilet that's basically the whole pool though right it's a swim up toilet that's pretty filthy but that's all
Starting point is 00:20:00 pools that's why they put the chlorine in there. You tell yourself that. Come on. We all pee in the pool. Do I pee in the pool? I don't think I do. You pee in the pool. I definitely pee in the ocean. Yeah, yeah. I peed in the ocean pretty good. Sure.
Starting point is 00:20:13 There were some stingrays that approached us in the water. Yeah, I didn't realize how close I was to one until I saw a picture. And there was one that was maybe like five feet from me. Really? How big? I'd say they probably stretched was maybe like five feet. Really? How big? I'd say that like they probably like stretched out maybe like two feet. They look kind of small, but it was kind of tough to tell in the water. But there was like three of them.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Did they try to get money from you? Yeah. They had knockoff Bart Simpson t-shirts with him with dreads. That was funny. There would be a couple people we ran into there was one guy on the beach uh he had like a water jug uh but filled with grapes and he goes hey i'm pablo escobar and i was like nice to meet you pablo escobar and uh he's like you want to buy some grapes and uh he holds up this jug of grapes and and there's just ants all over his grapes.
Starting point is 00:21:06 Did he not know they were there? I don't know. But I think it was a business tactic because then we're like, oh, no thanks. He goes, okay, you want cocaine? Really? So he's probably like, these grapes look like shit. Yeah, sure. But what about my cocaine?
Starting point is 00:21:22 And it makes the coke look even better. No answer to that. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. It was uh it was cool okay yeah several people offered us cocaine and uh it was funny like uh you'd have to oh no the dig sesh sign is falling how symbolic oh boy yeah the house the dig sesh built is falling um so yeah you could rent kayaks and snorkel gear and stuff at the resort yeah everybody that was in charge of doing that like you had to like sign in and give me your room number and stuff right okay you can kneeboard over here you want some weed really yeah jesus
Starting point is 00:21:57 christ yeah and uh weed's not legal there no no we almost we were gonna buy some but it was a little expensive and there was just we didn't have anything to smoke it out of either but uh um yeah it was uh you know one guy told me they call it food down there they call weed food so i knew a little bit of the lingo a little bit of slang of the locals hey you're down i'm hip i'm with it uh what else yeah we went snorkeling around a coral reef and that was really cool yeah it was like uh it's like kind of like hack in a way like it just looked like every snorkeling like anything you've ever seen a movie where like the the gold and blue fish are swimming by and there's a whole school of them it was hack fish yeah it's like okay Yeah. It was like a screensaver from the early 2000s. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:45 It was sponsored by Windows. Yeah, we're swimming around this coral reef. And we're like, oh, this is really cool. A coral that's kind of on the outside. And you're swimming with a guide. Because he's telling you what kind of fish are there and stuff. And he's like, oh, don't touch that. That's fire coral or something like that.'re like fire that's a weird name he's
Starting point is 00:23:09 like yeah burn your skin i wish you would have told us about that before we were hovering over it it's like two feet away from us but uh yeah it was it was really cool man and uh nice we yeah we yeah we rode scooters and did like a little tour it ended up taking all day which was kind of a bummer but yeah you rode around the island on a scooter and then like he talked about like certain spots and then you rode your scooter over to the spot where you snorkeled it was cool man it was uh yeah it was nice went to the casino won 15 bucks which is nice and are you a casino guy no no but they give you when you uh get to the resort they give you a coupon for 10 free dollars like 10 in credits or something like that that you can use
Starting point is 00:23:52 in the slot machines so like fuck it you already got 10 and then we won i won 15 on top of it my buddy mike won like 50 bucks nice it was it was good man it was really it was cool we went out to eat one night and uh this uh we went out to like a restaurant off resort um and uh there's this little like this little guy little black guy i swear he's maybe like five two he came out to bring us our wine and his name tag said robert and he goes hey it's me ro Robert. Robert De Niro. Hey, Robert. De Niro, what are you doing here, buddy? Yeah, dude. It was so fun. It was beautiful.
Starting point is 00:24:32 Awesome. That's great. Yeah. So let's see. What did I want to get? Oh, the only thing that sucked is we had to fly out of Philly to the Bahamas, and then we had to go back to Philly when we came back. And drive from there? Yeah. Why? Why didn't you just go to? Well, we went from, it was cool because we had to go back to Philly when we came back. And drive from there? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:45 Why? Why didn't you just get a... Well, we went from... It was cool because you get to go to paradise, to paradise, you know what I mean? Sure. Philly to the Bahamas. Yeah. So what happened was...
Starting point is 00:24:54 Did you snorkel in Philly as well? Yeah. Okay. I got a couple rashes, but it's okay. Yeah. Nothing but fire. It was kind of hack. I saw the Liberty Bell down there.
Starting point is 00:25:05 Rocky swimming around. His statue's at the bottom. You had a fire filly. Yeah. On your skin. Cheesesteaks were floating around in the water. It was nice. And you actually saw Robert De Niro.
Starting point is 00:25:17 I did. It was actually, he waves to you. It was nice. He was very pruney, though. He's in the water a long time. Yeah. Yeah, so Amanda and I went, he's very pruney though he's in the water a long time yeah uh uh yeah so we uh yeah amanda and i went and then we went with another couple my friend mike norma and his girlfriend and they
Starting point is 00:25:32 live in new york so we were going to try to meet in the middle and fly out of philly together this way we could leave together and come back together but uh we booked it and then mike's girlfriend forgot to book it so she was like oh shit i'm gonna try to work it out and then we booked it and then Mike's girlfriend forgot to book it. So she was like, oh shit, I'm going to try to work it out. And then we got it through Groupon and whatever company through Groupon. I think it was like Vacation Express or something. They're like, no, once you're booked, you're pretty much
Starting point is 00:25:56 booked. You can't move it. So Mike and his girlfriend Hillary, they booked it. And they're like, we can still come down the same days almost. We're going to be there a day later than you. And they're like, oh, we can still come down the same days almost. We're going to be there a day later than you guys. They're like, oh, cool. I'm like, yeah, and we're going to fly out of New York now.
Starting point is 00:26:11 I'm like, oh, good. You get to fly out of where you live. So we were stuck still going to Philly. It's not that long of a drive. No, it wasn't too bad, but it sucks to fly, land at the airport, and then have to rent a car, drive two hours like it'd be nice to just land in baltimore sure you know but uh but hillary was very apologetic about it and like we busted her balls about it pretty good because we were texting her like hey we're in philly having a great time we'll see you in the bahamas tomorrow wish you were here yeah pretty much pretty pretty much
Starting point is 00:26:48 but uh yeah yeah man so i just got back a couple days ago and then uh yeah i've been doing some shows which is uh which is fun um yeah i came back thursday and then i did a show that night and i was a little rusty but it was it was it was good so yeah and then did uh did some other stuff we had the mashup show which was fun like crowd but it was a fun show it was fun uh yeah so other than that that's that's mostly what I've been been up to and uh you got yourself another podcast right uh yeah I mean you know I think I'm guesting uh-huh although Eric Eric eric did kind of like say so my co-host here on the wire and i'm like whoa yeah let's not make me too important i don't know man sounds like you're no i'm not cheating on the digression sessions it's okay merely you
Starting point is 00:27:35 can have other podcasts side i'm on other podcasts it's okay side p i think as long as you go to other podcasts and you always come home to podcast sure as long as you go to other podcasts and you always come home to podcast with me. As long as you're number one. Absolutely. That's right. That's right. Yeah. You're not allowed to podcast. I don't love them other hosts.
Starting point is 00:27:49 Yeah. You're not allowed to podcast with anybody that we know. Right. But it can be out of state. Oh, I know the rules. I know the rules. Yeah. Don't worry.
Starting point is 00:27:56 They're not going to like call me here or anything. Yeah. Never podcast with them in my house. Yeah. Yeah. I know. That's fine. Your house, your vagina.
Starting point is 00:28:03 Yeah. That's what the uh that's what the little uh hand stitch thing over my door says um uh so yeah what tell me about this other podcast you got going on uh well i've been doing a the wire podcast with a the wire podcast is that what it's called it should be uh actually i believe it does not have a name yet. Oh, have they come out? Are you guys banking them? One was on YouTube so far, but I think it was still unnamed on YouTube. Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:34 So I think they've yet to be launched, really. So it's Eric from the Eric Tries Too Hard podcast. Yes, podcast network. Oh. Started his own network. Oh, God bless him oh god bless him uh god bless him uh no i've done a show he was really cool he's a lot of fun um so yeah you guys are watching the wire yeah and you've never seen it before i've never seen it
Starting point is 00:28:58 really i've seen like clips here and there i think i saw like the first episode years and years ago but not like most people that have binge watched it. And Eric's like an expert on it. He's seen every episode multiple times. Really into it. Knows all the ins and outs. So it's kind of fun to just go through it with him. Yeah, and then have you with fresh eyes trying to actually take in this phenomenon of the wire that everybody talks about for like over a decade.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Yeah. Yeah. So we're going to do an episode of that later today, right? Uh-huh. You will be the guest. And what are we doing? We're going to watch episode... Five and six.
Starting point is 00:29:35 Of the first season. Of the first season. Okay. Okay. I'm excited. I love The Wire, man. It's so good. Amanda and I toured through it.
Starting point is 00:29:42 I got the box set on Amazon a few years ago for like a hundred bucks. Because everybody's like, oh, it's so good amanda and i toured through it we i got the box set on amazon a few years ago for like a hundred bucks it's like because everybody's like oh it's so good so it's like oh fuck it i'll just buy it and then i think we watched it in like the whole series in like two weeks maybe really jesus we yeah dude we crushed it yeah it was so good and then when it was over it was there was just a hole in our lives like really what are we gonna do now i'll be honest i don't know i definitely like it i don't know if i'm gonna be as into it as everybody else is yeah i mean i think you gotta kind of give it the give it attention you know like you can't have it on honestly it is hard for me to pay attention for like yeah just so add
Starting point is 00:30:21 yeah yeah i don't think you can have it on while you're checking emails or anything like uh it sounds a little pretentious to say but people have compared it to basically like a visual novel yeah in a sense it's kind of dense there's a lot of players but the whole the whole series is so good man the whole like totality of it all like each season represents a different segment of baltimore and then seeing how they all co-mingle and affect each other is really really cool i definitely like it it's definitely interesting but i don't i don't know if it's grabbed me like it has yeah i think the first season it it takes a while but it uh i re-watched them when they came out on amazon for for free which is like
Starting point is 00:31:00 oh good glad i bought the dvds amazon yeah And they didn't have to say we're releasing these despite Josh Kaderna. That did kind of hurt. But I rewatched the first season, and I think it's perfect. I think the first season is so fucking good. So I don't remember what episode five and six are about. But God damn it, I'm going to find out. Well, there's drugs. I can tell you that.
Starting point is 00:31:24 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. I think, I'm going to find out. Well, there's drugs, I can tell you that. Whoa, whoa, whoa. I think we're entering... Spoiler alert. What's the guy who robs the drug dealers? Omar. Omar. We're entering Omar's world to some degree. Ooh, good.
Starting point is 00:31:35 I love Omar. We got Omar. We got... Oh, we're finding out that... Who's the lead drug dealer that got sent down to the projects instead of the towers? Oh, D'Angelo? Yeah, we're finding out that he has more of a violent history than we knew before. Yeah, he's good.
Starting point is 00:31:59 What's his name? God, I'm blanking on that actor's name. Oh, man. The guy that plays D mike fill time i'm gonna look it up all right uh filling time filling time josh is looking up so i gotta fill time um so i uh Let's see here. I'm just going to pause it. D'Angelo Barksdale is what I meant to say. And he is played by Larry Gilliard Jr.
Starting point is 00:32:35 Larry! And he actually came to a few Baltimore Improv group shows. And he was a guest on um hobo trash can which is a podcast uh part of our podcast network so people should try to get them yeah yeah yeah they uh the hobo trash can boys they talked a little uh talked a little shit about us you know really yeah what'd they say well mostly uh you know i don't even want to address it i just feel like they're they're jealous of us and that's fine i understand that that's fine you know i can't get jealous too yes they had mr larry on but you know we'll get larry we'll have money we'll have larry anytime we want god damn right um so let's see he attended baltimore improv shows or yeah and he actually took a class really well? Wow, I didn't know that.
Starting point is 00:33:25 Yeah, so he took an intro class with Catherine, and I was asking her, I was like, what's that like? Because she was like, well, at first he was kind of not as deferential, maybe at first. They did one scene, and at the end of the scene, or maybe at the end of the night, like in an improv class, you're like, okay, what do we like? What didn't we like? And, you know, that type of thing. And they're kind of going over the game film.
Starting point is 00:33:54 Or it might have just been one scene. They're like, oh, we like what you did there. And they're like, oh, you did a good job finding the game or emphasizing this. And he did a scene with with a girl and i think the girl said something like oh and that line was very funny and then he goes like what about my line really yeah yeah it's like well you didn't hear me say pancakes because y'all were laughing or something like that really yeah yeah but she said like he was just he was just trying to get used to like how it goes but uh but that he was really, really cool. Wow.
Starting point is 00:34:25 And that it must have been intimidating because the first class, especially in an intro class, you're like, okay. You ask everybody like, hey, why are we here? What are we doing? What's our level of experience?
Starting point is 00:34:36 Because some people did maybe theater in college or high school. So that's what it would be like. Oh, I've taken an improv workshop or something. Then the next person's like, oh, I'm kind of the funny person in the office. Then it gets to him. He's like. Oh, I've taken an improv workshop or something. Then the next person's like, oh, I'm kind of the funny person in the office. Then it gets to him. He's like, well, I've been on The Wire and The Walking Dead, which is similar to being
Starting point is 00:34:53 the funny guy in the office. Sure, sure. I think we all can relate to that. Yeah, I'm a real cut up in meetings. We all know that guy. Yeah, yep, yep. You say, you know, you've been on The Wire. Why not try improv?
Starting point is 00:35:05 You'd be good at it. Yep, you're currently on the wire. Why not try improv? You'd be good at it. Yep, you're currently on The Walking Dead. Why not improv? You all right? I'm sorry. I was really sick the last few days. It's hard to not be tired. Yeah, you look like shit.
Starting point is 00:35:18 Trying to not be tired. Well, yeah, let's wrap this up. This is just kind of a quick one, a nice little catch-up session. And then, like I said, hopefully we're going to get Liz Mealy and Hari Kondabolu on. And you guys should check that show out. It's going to be at the Creative Alliance this Sunday. The first show is sold out, but there's still tickets for the late show, which I think is at like 9 or 9.30 on Sunday. And our boy Umar Khan is hosting those shows.
Starting point is 00:35:46 So shout out to him. Go to those shows. Go to our Facebook page. Like us. We appreciate it. All the feedback, positive. I just want all positive feedback. Just give us feedback.
Starting point is 00:35:58 Or anything. Like guests that you want. Anything like that. And so we appreciate everybody that's listening. It's cool to see people listen to the shows, maybe recent ones, and then you go back and you look that we're getting downloads on older episodes.
Starting point is 00:36:14 So I think it's so cool that people find the show and then if we can get them interested in recent stuff and then they're like, oh, I want to check out the back catalog too, which I think is really fucking cool oh and um we're going to be doing a live show in dc it looks like a part of uh pod fest which i want to plug so that's going to be on the 30th we don't have a venue yet but we're going to try to get a big guest for that and try to do a live podcast in dc which will be which will be weird yeah The dig sesh going on the road.
Starting point is 00:36:47 Granted, it's only like an hour and change. But still, doing a live podcast. It's no Philadelphia. It's also paradise. We'll probably have to fly in from Philadelphia. Yeah, rent a scooter. You can get on my back. Snorkel there. Yeah, so we're going to have a live show on the 30th.
