Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, we're gay. The tradition continues. It's a dig sesh from the front porch this time of my house. Yeah. Josh Koderna here. Umar Khan there. What's up? More sober than the last time.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Oh, yeah. When did we do it last time? Out back. No, I was not sober. Yeah. Oh yeah. Well, I mean, up front, you're definitely more sober now than you were then. Yeah, I had a cocktail, some other stuff. It was nice. It is nice. Yeah, so uh yeah we're up front here and uh podcast is a little late no big deal sorry yeah busy weekend plus i mean the debate last night i tell you biden really went at trump when he said that thing i'm pumped dude are you gonna watch it yeah i think i'm gonna watch some of it when's it start nine yeah okay it Yeah. Okay. It's a little late, right? It feels way too late. Don't we have to put these guys to bed?
Starting point is 00:01:07 I feel like they're both probably asleep by like 8.30. Well, they're doing it in Texas, right? No, Cleveland. So they're on our time. Yeah, yeah. Cleveland's East Coast, right? Or like East Coast time. It's Eastern time.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Yeah, yeah. Well, like Eastern Standard or whatever. People are saying, what an idiot. He thinks Ohio's on the east coast. It's landlocked. Yeah, but I think it's on the eastern standard time. Yeah, I'm gonna
Starting point is 00:01:33 watch it. But yeah, again, I don't think who... I'm really annoyed by undecided people. No one's undecided. It's a made up thing. No one's undecided. It's not real. I mean, the lines are drawn. Also, this whole they just release his taxes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:50 And it's like no one who likes him cares. Yeah. I think it is good. It is good. I do get annoyed when anything that happens, they're like, ah, it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter. I think the more and more stuff does like chip away at it but yes he has like 35 like or whatever like 40 percent of his people or 40 percent of the republican base will like never change yeah like and i'm not saying you shouldn't
Starting point is 00:02:15 put it out there i'm just saying like the people who think it'll mean some like yeah it won't do much the only way that it would affect his base or like that I think he could ever hurt his base is if he's like, I don't know. I think every woman should have a right to choose. They'd be like, what? Yeah. Yeah. He's like, I think women should have more rights. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Like what? No. Hey, black people. Not that bad. Like what's happening? See, okay. Wild. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:44 I'm going to watch it. But yeah, your flip flop. Oh, there's like? Is he okay? Wild, dude. Yeah, I'm going to watch it. What's in your flip-flop? Oh, there's like an extra strap there. I forget where I put my other ones, but these are actually made for whitewater rafting, so they don't come off. They hook on your heel there. Can you take that? It's like, okay, so he has the normal, like, thong sandal, but then he can have an extra
Starting point is 00:03:02 strap that goes around his back of his ankle. There you go back on the heel there that's pretty cool keeps the guy on yeah we went uh whitewater rafting when i went and saw my cousin and i'm actually going to see her again this weekend but uh shit flying no i'm gonna drive it's like a nine hour drive oh my yeah yeah i've got him excited to do it though actually maybe i've never driven that long by myself. Me either. Yeah. I've done five.
Starting point is 00:03:27 Yeah. I think I've done about that, like, to New Jersey to see my buddy Mike. Yeah. And even that, I feel like it's like four and a half. Yeah. Five isn't bad. I think doing it at night would not be fun. But if you knock it out
Starting point is 00:03:45 Especially if you wake up in the morning and just go I think that's the best way to drive I think that's the way that I'm going to do it But yeah it's funny in my mind I was like what is it like 8 hours And then I saw it was 9 I'm like 9 but it's only an extra hour over 8 I'm like who cares
Starting point is 00:04:00 Dude but the traffic's been back on Yeah yeah Dude I hit traffic on Saturday Going to Arlington cares oh dude but the traffic's been back on yeah yeah everybody's out on saturday going to arlington i mean like it felt like rush hour daytime like normal shit yeah no everybody's everybody's out i mean everybody's just wearing a mask i'm so fucking mad i was like thank god i left like hours early to go hang out or i would have missed like if i thought like you know if i'm like oh just leave at six yeah seven yeah late damn yeah back to the old times back to the wall i mean this was the one and done weekend yeah yeah but i mean like as far as like going back to yeah traffic arlington so i did i got
Starting point is 00:04:37 booked to do these shows a while ago friday and saturday with mark norman and chris allen yeah like months ago some indoor shows shows. Indoor Arlington. And they're doing 35% capacity. And then I got hit up by Martin Amini, who does Overachievers in D.C., which is a very popular show. Popular with the youth. He was like, hey, I'm doing an hour. You want to feature for me?
Starting point is 00:05:01 I was like, sure. Nice. I only got it because it was funny. I was on the phone with Chris, and he's like, oh i just have to bail on chris or on martin's show yeah and then i was like that's so funny he literally just texted me asking if i wanted to feature for him hey bro you're my first choice yeah yeah yeah i know i'm never i'm never his like first show i know i'm never like when you text like the day before yeah you're never the first i literally gotta i had that similar thing happen with uh promoter comedian jack coleman in dc on sunday
Starting point is 00:05:32 he was like hey dude this was at like two he's like you want to do our show in dc tonight like my guy could have let me know yesterday or something yeah yeah but also i'm like i don't fucking feel like it we're also not in that mode anymore yeah where you're like nah i'ma chill yeah also it's like okay you're like 50 bucks yeah yeah yeah so uh how were the uh indoor shows that's the first time you've performed indoors yeah now granted the ceiling's very high there it's technically a movie theater it's a little spread out but it's uh so for the for us it was ideal because not only is the stage like six feet high yeah uh they blocked off the whole like pit section yeah one is a lot because there's a rule that you have to be 20 feet from a stage damn so um i personally
Starting point is 00:06:18 felt very safe and i think uh the thursday show they only sold 45-ish, 50 tickets. And so it wasn't bad. That's pretty spread out. It just sucked because there was no green room. Uh-huh. You just, like, wait in the alley. So you just, yeah. No, you're just, like, you have your mask on.
Starting point is 00:06:37 And I was just waiting in the lobby. Oh, gotcha, gotcha. Because Tim Miller showed up. So that was nice. And we just talked. You know, we bullshitted. It was cool. Yeah, I loved him. And then so we're hanging out. It's Thursday. And, like,, gotcha. Because Tim Miller showed up, so that was nice, and we just talked. We bullshitted. It was cool. Yeah, I loved him.
Starting point is 00:06:46 And then so we're hanging out. It's Thursday, and I'm featuring. I haven't featured in, I don't know how, months and months and months. Yeah, the most you've probably done is like 15 live. Yeah. Yeah. And it was all crowd work pretty much. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:58 And so Martin's like, hey, man, do you want to, hey, how about 20? And he saw the look on my face. I was like, ah. There's that fear. And he's like, is that good? I was like, is that good i was like no no it's fine dude it's fine yeah and uh tim miller showed up who's like you know he's a very good comic headliner yeah and uh martin's like tim you want to go up i was like please take some of my time so i have to do 15 oh there you go or 12 i only do 12 because they gave him like seven or whatever uh-huh dude i went up on stage so the host goes up and he's a new guy and he's very nice but uh yeah it's a tough room
Starting point is 00:07:31 it's very spread out yeah you're hosted it's just i would say that room's fucking hard when it's full yeah like because it is it is very spread out and like the chairs are literally office chairs and there's desks yeah so it looks like you're speaking at the like un yeah or like yeah definitely like some type of weird symposium but like often too i'll see people like not just sitting attentively in the chair they're just like slouched in it like this like computer chairs yeah their office with wheels yeah so they're like kind of rolling yeah but like they're like fully slouched like all right entertaining have their feet up on the desk like there's a bunch of drunk girls on the saturday oh man just nice a mess but uh yeah so thursday we uh so yeah all i'm saying if it's light it's probably even harder if it's tough dude it's fucking tough no
Starting point is 00:08:22 energy in there so the first guy goes up he does not do great not his fault you know he's new also like tough room also first one up uh ross goes up and also a good comic but doesn't really grab them then tim goes up he gets a couple of good pops yeah um and then i'm like man fuck this i am i'm just gonna fucking just riff go you're like i'm going in oh man it was fun and i riffed and it like i riffed and i was just like yeah i felt like i was doing very well and um i actually used the un line because this show is so diverse oh right there's china you know like and then i was like, COVID and all this dumb stuff. And it was just work.
Starting point is 00:09:05 It was great. I was fucking with people. Yeah. And then they lit me. I did 10 minutes of crowd work and two minutes of jokes. Oh, that's awesome. Yeah. That's so fun.
Starting point is 00:09:15 I felt bad, but it kind of set up Martin really nice because then he did. And then I left. And then this was cool. My buddy. Yeah. So I was Thursday and I left. I was going to go home, but then my buddy who owns the local oyster in Baltimore, they have an Arlington location. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:09:30 And it's right. It's a mile away in this huge food hall. And he was like, hey, come hang out. I'll make you a free plate. Get some free drinks. We'll just chill. Yeah. Fuck it, dude.
Starting point is 00:09:39 I'll go. Nice. So I drive around and I'm trying to find like Arlington is so weird because like everything is parking garages and I didn't want to pay for parking. Right. And so I like parked outside. I got out and they said I saw like you couldn't park here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:56 So I'm backing up. There's one guy sitting outside eating. I'm backing up and I like kind of like hit this car behind me but like just a tap. A little tap tap and it's like hey man this is city living so uh i was like let me get the fuck out of here robin's racing yeah so i was like hey that happens that's part of parallel parking it's part of having your car on the street it's gonna get tapped it's gonna get uh it's gonna get yeah so i just drove off and i was like man i hope this guy isn't like a do-gooder, writes my plate down. So I park at the garage.
Starting point is 00:10:27 And so I go around. Dude, this food hall is massive. And they were doing a speed dating event that night. Oh, boy. During COVID, which is unbelievable. Do they have masks on? I wasn't there for that. I mean, did you see them?
Starting point is 00:10:42 No, because when I got there, everyone was gone. And they were only open for like an hour later. And like no one was really there. God, what a sight. They're like speed dating. Like 100 people with masks like talking to each other for a couple minutes. It was only like 30 people showed up. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:58 And this chick. So, oh, so I was. Yeah. So I got I got some free drinks. We're hanging out. It was so fun. I met my buddy Nick was there. The two got, I got some free drinks. We're hanging out. It was so fun. I met my buddy Nick was there. Uh, the two people who ran the speed dating thing, like it's like this social,
Starting point is 00:11:10 yeah. Like, uh, it's like a organization where they put on social events in DC, Arlington, DC. They all love a social meetup fucking group. And they all rely on like, this is how they figure out, Hey, this is how they figure out like what to do, you know, because it's so many young people. They're nerds. They're they went to school for so long and then like and they're like, well, how do we socialize? Like, I guess there's a app.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Yeah. There's an app that says they're going to be playing Ultimate Frisbee in the park. I guess I'll go to that. And then, yeah, you're just like, hello, I'm Brian. I'm not going to lie. I think I would crush it. Speed dating. I think I would knock it out of the. And then, yeah, you're just like, hello, I'm Brian. I'm not going to lie. I think I would crush at speed dating. I think I would knock it out of the park. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:49 Yeah, yeah. I think I'd do pretty good, too. I'd probably offend a lot of them, but the ones you click with, you're like, all right. Yeah, you're just swinging. Here's something, though, that I would not have expected. So I'm talking to the speed dating people and Nick. And then these two chicks come by. And so I was just talking to them and my buddy. Oh, I thought the one guy I was talking to, part of the DC fray,
Starting point is 00:12:16 they're the ones who put on the speed dating thing. Okay. He said his girlfriend was coming. So I thought it was his girlfriend. I was like, hey, what's up, Olivia? And they just looked at me. I was like, oh, sorry. I thought you were someone else. And we just started talking my buddy Nick's like oh he's a comedian and it turned
Starting point is 00:12:28 out that they knew our buddy Ramin oh some a Cuban chick and uh another you know UN person yeah South South American Colombian something like that not American american and she was like oh yeah i took one of his classes but so yeah whatever we're just talking like what are you doing here stand-up classes yeah and i was like oh i'm doing shows all weekend and so we started talking and it was fun me nick these two chicks these two dudes were all like having a hang and it just was like oh this is why comedy's so cool yeah because it like you just have these nights like this where you just do random shit, and you're talking to random people.
Starting point is 00:13:07 It was so fun. People that you wouldn't have, like, met otherwise, you know? Yeah. Yeah, it was great. And then I thought it was fun, and I thought, like, everything, like, was fun. And then at one point in the conversation, I mentioned that I had a girlfriend. Dude, this chick got so mad like so mad like not so mad but like she was like you have a girlfriend i was like yeah why she's like you
Starting point is 00:13:33 don't act like you have a girlfriend i was like what the fuck does that mean why because you're like just talking to them like normal people yeah i'm maybe i'm like flirty but i think the one thing that maybe they threw that they use as an example it's like well you told us like we were kind of hot and i was like oh well i also because you guys told me you're i thought they were like in their early 20s they're like 35 36 i was like damn you guys are like hot for like 35 4 35 year olds which now doesn't sound like a compliment at all no definitely not yeah so they got mad and ramin the next day sent me a screenshot and the girl it was something like um just found out he had a girlfriend i was i'm horrified literally said i'm horrified and then she said we gave but don't worry we got on
Starting point is 00:14:21 him about it and she was like but you know he's a nice guy so they're they're oh dog with a tat out the window who is that um i don't know oh he's waving him that's my friend nick running the aforementioned nick nick uh no different nick oh okay um yeah so wait they were horrified because they think that you're like they thought i was like trying to pick them up or i think they were that one chick i think was i guess interested well also she called me a fuck boy to ramin oh there you go i'm tired of these arlington fuck boys it's just like oh it's like what the i would do we were just here's the thing if i assumed yeah i was the one who made an assumption about like, oh, we're going to hook up, exchange.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Then she'd be like, whoa, why can't we just talk? Why do guys always have to hit on chicks? Also, if that was your goal, you wouldn't be like, yeah, my girlfriend. That's another thing. If I'm a fuck boy, why would I mention I have a girlfriend? She asked me about my being and I was like, oh, me and my girlfriend were in Nashville. Yeah. And it's not like you slipped up and you're like, actually, no, we're kind of like on the outs. We're not even. We're open. We might break up soon. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. And it's not like you slipped up and you're like, actually, no, we're kind of like on the outs.
Starting point is 00:15:27 We're not even, we might break up soon. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah. And so it's kind of like, it's like, how did I lie to you? Yeah. And my thing is, uh, yeah. Like, why would I, if I, if I was trying to hook up with you, why would I bring up my girlfriend?
Starting point is 00:15:41 Yeah. And then am I supposed to start every conversation with like, guys fyi yeah i have a girlfriend yeah and you would come off as such like a pompous ass to be like look i'm having a lot of fun and i'm sure you are too but here's the deal ladies yeah i've got a girlfriend and by the way just because i know it's gonna happen happens all the time yeah i'm off limits first of all i hear hear how wet your pussy is And I can smell it You gotta chill You gotta chill Yeah, so that was weird
Starting point is 00:16:10 Gross, but yeah, whatever So we did the shows Mark Norman, Chris Allen Super fun Every show sold out They fit 100 people in there Which, I think it's 35 capacity definitely um so yeah the friday show the early show was good i had a decent set chris had a decent set uh mark was murdering
Starting point is 00:16:35 dude yeah because i think everyone came like they're they're like there to think they're pumped to see him well also he's just joke after joke after joke yeah and um he's still building his act but it's it's getting there oh i'm sure and uh guy's a machine and he's just non-stop so while we are we're watching the first show from from the sound booth like all these people with clipboards come in the health department came in and apparent so apparently someone from the show that i was at the night before made a complaint oh yeah and i don't know why because there was less people and i'd left right after my set so i don't know but someone made a complaint so the health department came yeah and mark had like was about to get light. He's been on stage for 40 minutes. He was going to get the light to wrap it up in five.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Yeah. And Pete was like, oh, man, dude, we can't do merch if they're here. Oh, yeah. I don't know if I should tell this part. Oh, yeah. And then they never did merch. And they never did merch. They did it outside in a safe distance way.
Starting point is 00:17:42 Yeah. Right. Yeah. So we had Mark stretch. And so now Mark safe distance way. Yeah. Right. Yeah, so we had Mark stretch. And so now Mark's on stage. Yeah. And we give him the stretch sign. He's like, stretch?
Starting point is 00:17:51 Okay. And then he's stretching, he's stretching. And I'm just standing by the side. He's like, is everything okay? Like, I'm getting kind of nervous. And we're like, yeah, yeah, yeah. And he's like, what happened? And I was like, I'll tell you after the show.
Starting point is 00:18:01 And he's like, and then he looked at the crowd. He's like, I bet you guys are all wondering what's going on. Yeah. They were like, yeah, what's going on? And we're like, uh. So you know the show. And he's like, and then he looked at the crowd. He's like, I bet you guys are all wondering what's going on. They were like, yeah, what's going on? And we're like, uh. So you know how weird it must have been for them? And his head, he was like, is there a bomb threat? Yeah, like what's, is there a gas leak?
Starting point is 00:18:13 Like what are we? And so, yeah, that was, it was just so funny. Because like, just to be on stage, you know something's going on. You don't know what it is, and then now the crowd knows. They don't know what it is. Yeah. And you're just like, I guess I'll try to make them laugh. That's tough, though, because they're like, ha-ha, this is funny, but what the fuck's going on?
Starting point is 00:18:35 Exactly. And especially then you're trying to have a big close, too. And they're still there, the health department. So then Mark's like, I guess something's going on. I'll stretch, you know? And it was funny. Yeah, but luckily, too, he has like a million jokes, too, where he can. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:51 Hammed it. Hammed it. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. That kid's home life, not great. Some kid just drove by. Screamed hell yeah. He probably saw the beard I'm growing, honestly.
Starting point is 00:19:03 He said something about I'm drinking on the shore. That sounds right too yeah that works anyway so yeah dude friday saturday saturday i did not have great i didn't feel like i had good sets uh i was trying out a bunch of new stuff because we we wrote a little bit together or we like threw around joke ideas in the hotel room before the shows oh that's fun yeah and um i tried out a couple and uh yeah i started with you like a fucking moron dude i had a i had it on saturday so i did uh mike quinlan's outdoor show at the checker spot yeah uh or brewery um downtown and yeah i accidentally opened with new stuff like stuff i've never done before and it was so fucking fun oh that's great it went really well um yeah not to step on
Starting point is 00:19:52 your thing oh the uh so saturday it was raining like crazy in baltimore it was yeah it was raining in dc it was pouring so quinlan had the show planned, and he messaged us. Ooh, not even stopping at the intersection here. So, yeah, the show is outdoors, and it's sort of under an overpass. It's 395 overpass. Yeah, under 395. Which is very busy. Which leads in and out of the city.
Starting point is 00:20:25 So yeah, it's like nonstop busy. All right. Yeah, nice tan. Jesus. Very dark. Not that that's a bad thing. We welcome it. We here at the UN appreciate your contribution.
Starting point is 00:20:43 And so yeah, he has a show planned. And then i think like the day before he was like yeah i'm excited we have 130 pre-sales i was like holy shit how you doing hey um he's like yeah we have 130 pre-sales i'm like whoa that's probably the most people i've performed for in since the beginning of covet yeah and then also too like that number makes me nervous. Like, damn. And he's like, yeah, I'm expecting a few more sales during the show. That's a lot of people. It was fucking packed. So then, yeah, it starts pouring on Saturday, and I'm driving there,
Starting point is 00:21:16 and I'm like, god damn. And I get there, and they're all there. I think he said like 117 people were there like once by the time i got there i guess people want to go out man but they want to do something and they were all bone dry because yeah 395 is like a major highway technically so it's massive so everybody was just under the highway oh that's great so then that was also fun too to be like jesus christ this is uh yeah i was like i don't want to brag. I perform under 95, 50, 295. Anything with a five.
Starting point is 00:21:48 But yeah, everybody was so into the show. And then I got to go... I think I was up like third or fourth. So it was cool to get a feel for the crowd and what they're into. But yeah, the whole vibe was very good. I really love the outdoor shows for like how communal it feels. Yeah. Because everybody, it's like if you want to see a show, like you're really committed to
Starting point is 00:22:10 seeing. Yeah. You know, it's not just like whatever. I bought tickets to like another thing. But yeah, everybody's had like it looked like a huge like tailgate essentially. Like they brought their own chairs and blankets and like coolers and stuff. Oh, people sat on the ground. Some people sat on the ground some people sat on the ground
Starting point is 00:22:25 on like a blanket some people brought their own chairs okay um but uh quinlan brought me on stage and he was saying like i always see mike quinlan whenever i'm running like shirtless i'll just like randomly see mike quinlan at like whatever intersection and he'll just look at me and just shake his head like you should be ashamed of yourself um there was one time actually i was running at a druid and uh at the lake yeah i was running a druid lake like around like the track and i did like a lap and then i got to my car and i had water in my car so i grabbed water and these two girls uh parked behind me and they were getting out of their car and the one girl you you could tell she really didn't want to go for a walk or whatever she was going to do with her friend. And she was like, is it hot?
Starting point is 00:23:12 It looks like it's hot out. And I was like, also, I'm like, you're outside. Right, right. But I was like, yeah, it's pretty hot, but it's not bad. There's like a little shade on this side. And she's like, okay, thank you. And at the time mike quinlan then like turned the corner and he like stopped and stared at me and shook his head and then drove off and
Starting point is 00:23:31 the two girls they were like you know him and i was like yeah that's like a thing we do like we're just joking around she's like good because i'll beat his ass you're nice that's awesome it's like thank you um so so yeah when he brought me on stage he was like he's like this guy is hilarious beautiful you can see him running around shirtless like an asshole and him and josh could do it so it's like fun and so i um the other day at the uh at the park there's like a playground that i do chin-ups at like an elementary school so i just riffed on that of like a thing that happened the other day. It was actually like a guy said it to me.
Starting point is 00:24:09 I don't know if he talks about it on the podcast, but I'll only do like chin-ups on the monkey bars if the playground's empty. I feel like if a family's there, I'm like, ah, I don't want to play with a kid. I'm like sweaty and red. Well, that playground is about to be full soon. Oh. I got some intel.
Starting point is 00:24:28 I think we're going to be back in schools in November. I don't like that. That's my gym right now. Dude, it's good. I mean, yeah. I mean, look, I'm doing shows indoors. So who the fuck am I? But who?
Starting point is 00:24:41 Yeah. So the other day I was running and it was around like five or six um and i saw a guy at the playground i was like ah fuck and he was like looking up so i thought he was like watching his kid like towards the top of like the little like jungle gym thing okay and then i turned the corner and i was like oh there's nobody there oh you said this on the bottom yeah yeah yeah yeah so i riffed on that and i'm saying like yeah I'm saying like, yeah, like I'm an asshole. Like I was like, I work out at the jungle gym in my playground. And yeah, I'll do it when kids are there.
Starting point is 00:25:11 And I'm just like, hey, it's jungle gym, Kyler. Also, you're looking a little flabby. That's good. Let's get up there, you know? Nice. And also, I didn't plan on doing that. So it was like really nice to just be in the moment and just riff. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:22 And then I told the story that that guy told where he's like, yeah, there's like a family here i'm like oh i'll just come back at dark and then so i said that and i was like yeah i fucked up the other day and i was like i'll just come back at dark which is like the word and so it was like it was just so fun to like riff on that it's like one of those sets where you like don't have your set list planned and all that stuff yeah that's a hard part dude right now it's like it's so tough to figure out what you want to do what you should open with close it's like you don't you know you get all up in your head you're like well i have closer but i've been doing it for so long now it's like a good time to get rid of it yeah then there's like other comics at the show and you're like well i don't want them to think i suck yeah so i was trying to like i changed my
Starting point is 00:26:04 set like no set was exactly the same because sometimes when you host you can just do the same exact thing totally yeah um yeah like i've riffed or not riff but i had this one story that i'd only told twice so i did that and that kid that crushed love it and that show was the friday late show was great but yeah man the saturday shows just eat i mean it didn't eat it but the early show i definitely fucked up i tried i tried out a new joke that's too racy to go up at the top about fucking like teachers fucking their kids it wasn't new but i was trying to bring it back because i had to stop doing it because people get so like right upset and mark was like dude that's a great joke do it and I was like okay and it did not work
Starting point is 00:26:46 and then I tried to go on an old bit my bit about like the eating bread with your dad yeah and it's based on that movie that Kumail Nanjiani see I can't even remember
Starting point is 00:27:01 I can't even remember the movie I can't even remember the fucking can't remember. Dude, now I can only remember the movie. I can't even remember the fucking bit. So like as I started the joke. Oh, I hate that. As I started the joke in my head, I'm like, why did you start this joke? You don't remember it. And then your speech pattern slows down. You're like, yeah, it's like that.
Starting point is 00:27:17 I'm not trying to make fun of like my speech pattern slowed down so much. I started fucking up. It sounded like I was deaf or drunk. It was rough, dude. It was bad. Because you're trying to buy, like, mentally, you're trying to buy time. Like, you're trying to put down, like, track as the train is going. Yeah, and luckily, they were nice, and they, like, they stuck with it.
Starting point is 00:27:40 But, like, fuck. Just thinking about it, like, it,, it gets under my skin, dude. Like, oh my God, what is a movie called? Big Sick. Big Sick, there you go. I heard them talking about the Big Sick on NPR, and I couldn't think of that line. I couldn't think of the next line, and I was like, dude, you've done this joke for two years now, straight. Every night, you've pretty much done this goddamn joke.
Starting point is 00:28:03 Yeah, and it's also just the setup, too. It's even a huge god it sucked oh i hate that to fucking kill myself i hate that feeling um yeah man it sucked but and then the second show was second show was some weird energy because and i didn't know this but so i'll just tell you like how i went into it so i go up and i'm like it's doing okay like i'm doing fine you know you're hosting arlington's a tough room to host first joke it goes okay second joke gets better so you're building momentum but then i have this me too joke yeah the first line did well where i'm like uh and then the where it's just me making fun of like this chick who blamed the me too movement on, like, why she doesn't get hit on anymore. And I was like, wow, I wish I had an excuse for being ugly.
Starting point is 00:28:50 Right. That joke, it's a touchy joke. In D.C., it doesn't do well. Most other places, it kills. Yeah. Then the next two lines, I make some references to, like, the war on terror and the Iraq war or whatever. Those lines bombed. Why? Also, Those lines bombed. Why?
Starting point is 00:29:07 Oh, also ironically bombed. Bombed, yeah, in Arlington, Pentagon. And then I went into this other joke. And again, another joke where I was like, why did I do this? This isn't going to work. This is also a mean-spirited joke. Oh, no. So before that, after the Me Too joke, there so before that after the me too joke there was a
Starting point is 00:29:25 chick in the front row i was like oh sorry it was just a joke i make i'm not making fun of the movement i'm making fun of the chick and then you just hear this voice from the back you don't need to explain yourself and there's just like this white voice and it sounded very like yeah you know not just like kind of that like i'm like like, dude, I know what I'm doing. I'm just, I'm fucking with it. I'm smoothing it over. I'm just being playful with this chick. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:52 And also I'm just like acknowledging the vibe. That's all. Yeah. And then I go to this next show. What if that was a guy from the health department? He's like, we have a no pussies rule. Yeah. We shut this place down. You don't know.
Starting point is 00:29:59 He checks a mark of pussy on stage. Yes, no, yes. Huge pussy on stage. Yeah. He writes huge and then checks it. You don't have to explain shit. Checks a mark of pussy on stage. Yes, no, yes. Huge pussy on stage. Yeah, he writes huge and then checks it. You don't have to explain shit. And then so I go to this next joke where I make fun of this guy who I met at my job. And he liked to be, he was like, I'm not a man or woman.
Starting point is 00:30:19 I'm not a person. I'm a tree. Yeah, yeah. This is a real, people think I made this joke up. I made up most of it but the person is the person is real like there was this guy named tree and he used to uh come and do yoga with the kids yeah and in like for a while we didn't know if tree was a man or a woman big dude like huge person big tree big redwood yeah big yeah and um so i just have this joke where I make fun of this person who identifies as a tree. Yeah. And there's like these silly lines in it.
Starting point is 00:30:51 Like it's very silly where I'm like, hey, tree, I heard no one here likes you. Maybe you should leave. Yeah. And don't bark at me. Yeah. And then like you should go there because something's fucked up with your family roots. And like it's supposed to be cheesy. Yes.
Starting point is 00:31:02 It's supposed to be like. The whole idea is. I was fucking with him. You're also acknowledging it's cheesy yes and i even say like i was very just playfully fucking with him you know silly stuff yeah this one guy in the front row goes oh he's like and i was like oh because the whatever the last line didn't do that well and this guy was just like oh and i said like oh a lot of trees in the audience this one guy goes like well maybe you shouldn't do dad jokes or something like that uh dude i fucking got so mad and i was like i was like says the motherfucker wearing a yellow polo shirt on a saturday night and that got an applause
Starting point is 00:31:36 break that's great well because that's also arlington like they know that guy they can't see him but they know and dude this is, this is the part where I fucked up. I got a laugh. Oh, and you went harder. I should have moved on. Oh, no. Then I was like, you know what? Fuck this guy.
Starting point is 00:31:53 I'm so pissed. And I'm not going to lie. Every show I've been doing, I've been doing crowd work before this, so I'm cocky now. And that's what happens. When you get cocky, this is what happens. And so then I'm like, oh. And I was like, what do you do, man? I was like, what do you do?
Starting point is 00:32:08 And he was like, I protect your country. And then just everyone was like, ugh. And it was just like, again, another just like white guy just being weird. Like aggressive. Yeah. And I was like, well, how do you do it? He's like, I protect your country. And I was like, all right, man, go fuck yourself.
Starting point is 00:32:23 So I just finished my act. It did fine. I closed fine. But it was just like these weird moments yeah so i told chris about it chris allen for you those who don't know is like a friend of the pod friend of the pod he's like a six something big black guy yeah veteran he is a retired military guy air force yep so and there was a guest spot chris's buddy and uh he also got heckled by that guy kind of a little bit yeah and so then um chris like goes up immediately he walks out so he's like i don't like this energy in here i mean i don't this you guys are not and then or something then he goes up to the guy in the polo shirt. Yeah. And he's like, what, what do you protect this country, huh, motherfucker?
Starting point is 00:33:08 He's like, what do, what do you do? He's like, I, he's like, he's like, what do you do? I served in the military 20 years, motherfucker. I'm the real hero. What do you do? And the guy's like, I work at, and he didn't want to say, he's like, I protect this country. He's like, no, what the fuck do you do? And he worked at like the department of homeland security yeah christian goes what desk do you sit at motherfucker
Starting point is 00:33:30 i'm a kid like just murdering well that's that's another thing like i'm sure in the dc area there's a lot of dudes like speaking of speed dating and trying to get laid where it's like yeah no i keep a safe and it's like you're an analyst yeah you know which desk do you sit at motherfucker yeah is a genius line yeah no that's so good because because yeah i'm sure there are so many guys like that i mean oh yeah and you know just this guy look he's like this schlubby white dude you know you're just like ah come on man you're tucking in a polo shirt get the fuck out of here yeah and you're like yeah mr badass i was like you could never get up on stage it pissed me off yeah but he's he's fucking protecting this country piss me off uh but you know this is the funniest thing you think you suck and then like after the show people are like oh my god you
Starting point is 00:34:16 killed dude i got all these followers yeah like this one guy was like hey i'm i subscribed to your podcast nice holy shit shout out to that guy that's the thing about mark norman dude his fans are huge comedy fans and like every show we did you just get new followers it's crazy that's great yeah i mean yeah because he's just a pure old school comedian yeah and so and every night we hung out in his hotel room until like four in the morning yeah yeah we were gonna pod i think one day and then you, bro, I got home at like 5 a.m. I got home at 5 a.m. the next day. I mean, it was fun, but it was just like, whew. Yeah, that ride back. There was a couple of comics came to hang out.
Starting point is 00:34:52 And the one comic, we're like, hey, man, come hang out. And he's like, what are you doing? He's like, we're just going to go to the hotel room, get a bottle of whiskey, and just talk shit. He's like, you're just going to talk comedy? And we're like, yeah. And he's like, I don't know. He's like, are any chicks coming? and we're like yeah and he's like yeah i don't know he's like are any chicks coming we're like no man they're gonna ruin it yeah uh dudes rock we're gonna get whiskey maybe a pizza so yeah we go to the hotel room and uh chris's friends there he's 22 this guy alex he's he's cool dude yeah but he dude he got
Starting point is 00:35:21 i mean like hammered. Oh, no. And he, like, would not stop talking. Oh, no. And I even tried to, I didn't want to be mean, but I was just like, bro, you are talking a mile a minute. Yeah. He's like, I'm good, I'm good. And he kept saying, I'm good, dude. There's a picture of him.
Starting point is 00:35:36 Oh, no. Oh, he looks like he's, like, he's from Jersey. He sounds so Jersey. And he's getting a gut because he's just drinking and not working out, I guess. Yeah. And, uh, dude,
Starting point is 00:35:46 I mean, he, like his eyes were like red and blotch and they were like watery. Oh, it was hilarious. Dude, the feeling, man,
Starting point is 00:35:55 the feeling, if I was that kid the next morning, this, the depression, Oh, he looks bad. Oh, and dude,
Starting point is 00:36:01 his belly, like his belly was hanging out for like 45 minutes. He was just talking to us with his belly hanging out for 45 minutes. I had no idea. Yeah. He told the same story twice. Oof. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:13 Oof. It was bad. My skin started to get hot just thinking about it. Yeesh. That was funny, though. Yeah. Yeah, I had a thing with the audience on Saturday saturday um and yeah they were so cool it was so fun but yeah some people brought dogs again like the outdoor vibe so like as one joke was
Starting point is 00:36:33 like kind of like ending and i was gonna try to like be like okay and the next day and like as i was going to say something a dog started barking like a lot yeah it's like oh guys let me apologize my wife is here and then a bunch of people were like oh i'm like it's clearly a dog do you think you think i'm actually with a dog and that your wife is barking yeah i'm like what are you talking about i know i hate that and i was like no i get it you're oohing because of how racist it was We're working on that I know, but sometimes people Even when they do oo Like, they're still having fun
Starting point is 00:37:10 Oh, of course Yeah, but when you're on stage You just want laughs So then you get up in your head Yeah, no, I Yeah, this was just such a fun one That's great Where I was just like
Starting point is 00:37:21 So could you hear? Yes, yeah, no, I could hear everybody It was great and the cool thing was you could see everybody it's really well lit and yeah that's great man yeah mike put on a hell of a show and then the checker spot place was really cool the uh brewery so we got like free beer from them and it was funny like a guy that worked there was kind of walking around and he just like kept handing me beers i'm like okay thank you nice um yeah natalie mcgill was there so it was cool to catch up with her oh yeah and so i'm having this weird thing with people because they know they might assume that i'm not with karen anymore they don't know so like i so ever since did i tell you that tommy simbazo was like hey are you okay and i'm like yeah because tell you that Tommy Sambazo was like, Hey, are you okay? And I'm like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:05 Cause Eric told him. Yeah. And I was like, yeah, dude, totally. But yeah, it's like, I guess just cause I never post on Facebook, like, well, I'm single or something. Like I could make a joke, but I don't know. It felt weird to like dunk on Karen to be like, yeah, I'm single and blah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:19 You don't have to dunk on her. You just say you're single. Yeah. But even that, like, I don't know. It just feels. Yeah, what you do. It feels. Yeah. So yeah, I think i'll do it at some point um but yeah so i was talking to natalie and she was like we were just like hey i haven't seen literally i haven't seen her in like i don't
Starting point is 00:38:35 know since like march and uh i was like how are you it's like really good to see you she's like i'm good how are you i'm like i'm good and then i was like uh i was like yeah and i broke up with karen she's like okay i thought so i just didn't want to ask i didn't know that's a good impression yeah yeah and so it's like yeah it's funny it's people are just like does josh have cancer can we talk about josh having cancer so like so now i'm just very proactive be like yes we broke up i'm totally fine ramin didn't know what i know i was like i said it in a group text Because me, you and Ramin He's so focused on himself
Starting point is 00:39:08 I know He's so selfish And his kids Really? Yeah What was his face like? He was like Like jaw
Starting point is 00:39:16 Like wide open And then he was like Buddy, really? Are you No You never told me that I'm like, yeah Because also
Starting point is 00:39:24 He did the thing When i told ross i was like it was like yeah me and cam broke up and he's like haha okay oh right so i think i think ramin must have sawed in the thread or like just missed it or something yeah i told uh tim miller he didn't know and he was shocked and i don't know if sean sean joyce coming came and hang out i told him yeah yeah and they like i don't think yeah i think most people didn't know yeah so that's the funny thing where it's like kind of a rumor but like i never want people to be afraid to be like right right right so it's just funny like natalie had like a sense of relief she was like oh my god thank you and then jill gonzalez
Starting point is 00:39:59 was there another comedian she was on the show and she uh she's like the hottest she's like a 10 wait don't you have a girlfriend yeah you have a girlfriend god you're such a fuck boy no no so i was telling natalie and then like the green room was just like a little vestibule area of like a building and so jill was there she's like really so she's like yeah i knew you were engaged she's like i actually denied an engagement and i was like oh it was like kind of cool to talk about that. And it was funny. A little later, I was like, yeah, I want to like talk to you more about that. Because I'm just like wondering, like, how, like, did you know?
Starting point is 00:40:36 Like, did you want to break up with him before and blah, blah? And she is like, oh, yeah, God, it was so hard. She's like, I fucking regret it. And I was like, really? Like, why? What happened? She's like, oh, it's just, I was like, like like seeing the one that got away like you really loved him she's like no he's just so rich and i was like okay yeah all right something's about sums it up it's like okay cool cool cool cool yeah she bombed uh and then but yeah it was really
Starting point is 00:41:03 great to see ramin. He was very sweet. Oh, nice. That's great, man. Sounds like a fun night. Dude, it was so, so good. I think, yeah, so very preliminary. I think I'm planning a 100-person outdoor show. I love that.
Starting point is 00:41:19 Had the meeting today. And it was frustrating because, so we're gonna do it at in the white hall mill parking lot love it chesapeake is involved but like we were unsure about the city guidelines and some people are like you can only do 25 people i'm like yeah but a show just happened where you can have they had 150 people there so then i told nick that and he's like hey man i feel comfortable we talked to our lawyer and i think so i think uh october 14th folks i can't uh fuck it mark norman's gonna headline whoa alan's featuring i'm hosting it's gonna be 20 bucks so look out for that sorry a man just drove by on the smallest motorcycle. Probably a foot off the ground. Okay, so say it again.
Starting point is 00:42:11 It's Mark Norman, Chris Allen, and me at the Whitehall Mill, October 14th. If things change, I'll let people know. I think the tickets are going to go live on Friday. We have two weeks to sell out this thing. Put up a stage, chairs, lights. How many people are you doing? A hundred. A hundred. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:21 And we're going to – so it's gonna a cool setup so like the whitehall mill building the stage is gonna be like kind of against it we're gonna do it like around across the stage is where true chesapeake um has like um their storage and they open up like uh barn doors so they're gonna set up the bar there. We're going to do two cocktails, three beer option. Love it. He's going to have servers who walk around with iPads. They take your drink order and they'll bring it to you so no one has to get up and walk around. Fuck yeah. And then there are bathrooms
Starting point is 00:42:53 inside. Yeah, yeah. Wear your mask inside and all that. Yeah, so that's the goal. We got to sell 100 tickets. I think we can do it. Yeah, I think it's smart too to start. We're going to be out a lot of money. You'll be alright. No, 100, you'll be fine. And again, people are... I think people want to go think it's smart too to start i'm gonna be out a lot of money you'll be all right no 100 you'll be fine yeah and again people i think people want to go and people are excited it's so yeah i'm pumped i'm very scared but now i'm already like my i've been thinking about it all day my heart's racing yeah you're just like oh fuck i think you're gonna i think you're gonna
Starting point is 00:43:21 end up adding a second show i think you're gonna add a second show and sell them both out yeah we'll see i don't think so because there's all these like you know like you can't go too late you know it's a wednesday night oh okay sorry i was assuming like a friday or saturday no because they want to do it on wednesday one it's like a slow day for them yeah and two uh friday saturday you know like i think he's on the road oh right right it would be nice it's just it's to do an outdoor show to do an early and a late show is it's too much for a week on a wednesday absolutely but still well that yeah i mean i think that's great 100 you can do that i know yeah fuck yeah hopefully i'm nervous but i think we can do it i think yeah absolutely dude yeah 20 bucks come on 20 bucks people it's nothing for
Starting point is 00:44:05 for a guy that has uh many many credits very funny no minimum yeah this guy's been all over tv yeah so hopefully it'll be fine yeah and now now's the time to start like really doing the outdoor stuff too well i mean this is probably gonna be like a well we're gonna try to do one on the 14th and then another on the 28th love it different i think the 28th might just be we'll see locals i like that 10 bucks i like that yeah i might be around yeah let me know but i don't know because we'll see how the first one goes it just sucks that the first one is going to be with like a national headliner yeah you just hope it goes well but also he's getting paid a decent.
Starting point is 00:44:46 So yeah, I think it will go well. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. By that time I'll be 34 years old. An old man. You should do like a park hang.
Starting point is 00:44:57 Oh, for my birthday? That's what Evan did for his girlfriend. He said it was really fun. I was thinking about, I haven't told Paul yet, but he has like a bigger backyard. I was thinking about maybe doing something over there or a park hang.
Starting point is 00:45:07 And I was thinking about maybe going to shoot some guns during the day. So if you wanted to maybe come to that. Let's do it. Yeah. The spot next to Magoobies. So that could be fun. Oh, yeah. Little target.
Starting point is 00:45:18 That would be fun. Pew, pew, pew. Yeah, dude. That's exciting. Yeah. I'm glad you're doing the outdoor thing. Yeah, I'm nervous, but i hope it goes through we need we're waiting on some approval from like uh the building owner uh i've met him before and
Starting point is 00:45:32 i think they're interested because um i don't think they're doing well yeah i think they open at a tough time dude to open it yeah because it's like a whole complex in baltimore but yeah to yeah like i have a bigger mailing list than they do. To open up a restaurant and like a shopping kind of center, like a market. And then the restaurant is the anchor of that market during a pandemic. They have a big like wedding event space too. Yeah. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:46:01 I remember looking at it. But don't worry. I got out of it. It was expensive, right? Well, yeah. We just looked online. All that shit's so expensive. Yeah. Oh, boy. I remember looking at it. But don't worry. I got out of it. It was expensive, right? Well, yeah. We just looked online. All that shit's so expensive. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:09 It's like eight to ten grand or something. I'm hoping, though, like, if my time comes, I got some connections. My time? Like, you're going to get killed? Yeah. Listen, when I meet my maker. Yeah, because they want me to move shows in there. Huh.
Starting point is 00:46:24 After once COVID is gone. I mean, that'd be quite, because they want me to move shows in there. Huh. After once COVID is gone. I mean, that'd be quite the nice setup for you, too. I mean, right around the corner. It's fucking great. Right around the corner. It's huge. Free parking. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:34 And even though it's like a warehouse, they soundproof. They put the stuff on the ceiling so sound doesn't bounce. And there's speakers that run across all around the top top love it but i see yeah so we'll see yeah i performed at a place once in gambrel's maryland that was a wedding venue that had um a show there it was with rob mayor and the depending on how high the ceiling is maybe maybe that's fine. But when I did the show at that restaurant, they had speakers in the ceiling and it sounded like shit. Yeah. That's also a problem. I'm sure it sounds fine for music.
Starting point is 00:47:16 But when it was live, it's just like a microphone. It was like, so what? It was just very muffled. Yeah, and that's what I'm nervous. But they have a smaller space and I would much rather do it there yeah because you don't need to i don't know yeah yeah because if you're not filling in 200 people you're like what the fuck's the point right right right um no dude that's fucking great i know it's just now i have that same fucking anxiety but it feels good he's back doing stuff the anxiety is back my guy make some money it's like
Starting point is 00:47:46 i'm not making i'm making like nothing off the show it sucks yeah but i still think it's cool like yeah it's cool because hopefully nick makes money hopefully people find out about the white hall and yeah i get to help some some like uh comics make money so yeah so paul's wife annie she has the homebody general store yeah so the goal is we're going to do doors at 6. The hall will be open for another hour. So just tell people, like, go explore, buy drinks. The show will be at 7. Nice.
Starting point is 00:48:16 Yeah. That's fucking great, dude. That's very exciting. Hopefully. Yeah, some people are like, well, what are you doing next? I'm like, I don't know. I know. Same.
Starting point is 00:48:25 People are just like like I have no clue So you're back Yeah But we're doing that show I was gonna do Ross' show But I didn't know he moved it to the first So I'm gonna be out of town When is the first
Starting point is 00:48:34 Thursday Oh shit I gotta drive back to Arlington on Thursday Yeah Fuck Cause I saw he posted something For 10 people Yeah
Starting point is 00:48:42 This guy doesn't have No I'm kidding I love you Ross But can you get out more than 10 people? Probably. We'll see. Yeah. It doesn't matter. I got to do it.
Starting point is 00:48:52 And now I'm going to eat dicks and just do material. Just do new shit? Yeah. Yeah. I can't fucking crowd work. It's fun and it does keep you fresh, but... It's a little bit of a cheat at some point. When you have to do a weekend and you're like oh shit i didn't practice my act well it's also like you are like it's like if you just go to the gym and
Starting point is 00:49:11 just work on your biceps you're like yeah it looks pretty cool with your shirt on you know what i mean but like also too it's like are you in shape it's like yeah yeah look at my guns it's like okay you got a little bit of a gut here um You didn't listen at all, did you? Sorry. I just got a text about the goddamn show. This guy brought up a really good point about how riffing is like biceps, but forget it. Damn. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:49:34 Forget it. Sorry. You know, this guy in his own world already thinking about his live shows. Live shows. This son of a bitch. All right. Where are we at here? I can't see. We're at about 50. All right. Where are we at here? I can't see.
Starting point is 00:49:47 We're at about 50. All right. We got it. We got it. I think that's enough. Yeah. Yeah. We had a long one the other day.
Starting point is 00:49:54 Yeah. I'm going to drive down to North Carolina on Thursday. How many pee breaks do you think you're going to take? Man, I'm going to try to stay hydrated, at a minimum three right yeah i would probably i'd probably do four i just four yeah i do too i'm gonna be pretty hydrated because somehow you pee and you think like you're like all right and then it's just like all right well that added 15 minutes you're like how the fuck did i add 15 minutes yeah it's like you gotta get back on the highway yeah i'll wait for like a pretty good stretch or at least a spot that's like
Starting point is 00:50:27 right off the highway and then you can hop back on um but yeah no it's gonna be like the longest fucking drive i've ever done but it's really beautiful where she lives like super rural then you can see the mountains that's great man yeah there's a nice spot you live alone she lives with my uncle oh and so they live like sort of like On like the foothill of like a mountain And As you go like up the foothill They have a bunch of different houses And the people that own the foothill
Starting point is 00:50:53 Like they rent out a couple of the houses As like Airbnbs What is that like when it snows? Oh I'm sure it's probably brutal Oof But no I'm excited it's going to be some good foliage. And then it's also like, yeah, I looked at the weather. It's going to be like in the 60s.
Starting point is 00:51:09 But at night, there's one night where it's like a low of like 38. I'm like, oh, my God, the 30s. Dude, it got into the 30s in one night here like last week. Oh, yeah, yeah. And now we're back with this fucking 100% humidity bullshit. I tell you, yeah, this weather is like a woman. Yeah. Mother Nature can't make up her mind.
Starting point is 00:51:25 But, yeah, they have a spot. So since for all the Airbnbs, they built in a thing into, like, the side of the mountain that looks over, like, the valley. Okay. And it has a hot tub and, like, a huge above-ground pool. It's really nice. Okay. I'm excited for that.
Starting point is 00:51:40 Nice, man. Should be nice. Should be nice. But, yeah, man, other than that everything's good i worked on uh music with miles and that's been going good oh yeah you've been sending me some very heavy i know i love it i fucking love it it sounded really cool um yeah and i'll probably i guess we'll release that stuff sometime soon are you gonna get to sing on it i don't know i don't know if anybody might be instrumental i don't know i on it? I don't know. I don't know if anybody. It might be instrumental. I don't know. I have no idea. I don't know. Yeah, I've been trying to
Starting point is 00:52:08 sing a little bit too over the acoustic. How's that going? It's hard. It's really hard to sing. That's the thing. Even when you're playing simple stuff and singing, it's a lot of work. Yeah, and to really try to commit to both. I sent you a video where I was like, this is as close to
Starting point is 00:52:24 being good as I can get. um so yeah it's uh but yeah man working on that shit and uh yeah it's good uh all right hold on i just got a text uh talk to our friend in the mayor's office this afternoon she said to hold tight until friday Rules may be changing this week. So I don't know if that means for the good or the bad. Oh, it might be opening up a little more. Yeah, so. And that's the thing. You don't want to do shit that, like, you're going to compromise people's safety and, you know, so.
Starting point is 00:53:00 Oh, yeah. Then you're just like, is it worth it? But then you do these other outdoor shows. You're like, this looks fun. I think i can do a good one yeah and like yeah this is like a time where you can book people for cheaper yeah totally yeah i think i think it'll be a cool thing to look back on too it's like a fun like yeah it does really feel like it's kind of like humans trying to figure it out like as lame as it is to be like it's a comedy show oh for sure but like it and as weird as it was to be like we're gathered under an overpass well so but it's it was beautiful honestly so tim miller who's a dc comic he's been around for a while he said um
Starting point is 00:53:35 he was making a documentary before all this like about kind of like about the scene but yeah obviously him being the focal point about um how just look how much the scene has uh flourished and progressed like he's like i just because there was a night where they popped around and did um he did like five or six spots in one night yeah and the whole like show was going to be like look you can like dc like this is you can do this and like just even like four or five years ago yeah there was like three shows in the whole in the whole city yeah and it also wasn't three shows a night it was like three shows in one week yeah and then all this happened yeah and i was like dude but that's the perfect documentary because most documentaries are like that you set out to do
Starting point is 00:54:20 one thing something else happens and you're like okay So now you can talk about how you have this flourishing scene, and you have to adapt, and look how we adapted, and look what disappeared. And you said he did a drive around of all the spots he had hit in that one Wednesday night, and he said three of them are gone. Yeah, like closed. Yeah. Yeah, like the venue's done. Yeah, it's crazy.
Starting point is 00:54:47 It's scary. But yeah, no, he should have done yeah a lot of like outdoor shows he probably i mean should do that now while he can because that is yeah like that is an interesting twist yeah the ones that i've done have been so cool they've been yeah very very fun they went better than i thought they were gonna go yeah because also the audience is excited like yeah you have to really want to see some live entertainment to be like i'm gonna wear a mask commit to be in this stranger's backyard cool um but yeah all that said everybody um yeah we will we'll be back next week my dad has texted me about um some medicinal marijuana he got uh so because you can pick up for him right no no i can't i could sign up for something but yeah he went and got some today i thought about doing it where he was like
Starting point is 00:55:31 he got he got like an ounce today for like a hundred bucks which is an insane deal what yeah from the dispensary yeah because it was like a different type of thing and uh he was like this looks just like shake what is this and the woman was like well like people usually get this to like cook with it but you can smoke it he's like well it's not just like filler like this all has thc she's like yes it does and so he just texted me it's so funny when he uses emojis because i don't think he knows how to do it so the uh the strain is called talimon so i I wrote Talimon. Woo.
Starting point is 00:56:07 And that cat that's like shocked. Oh, yeah, yeah. Damn, that's funny. I was like, I hope it's good. He's like, I'm sure it'll probably be good. Damn, social media. I'm like, okay. Or I mean, like texting emojis.
Starting point is 00:56:21 Moms love using GIFs. Oh, yeah. Some of my mom friends that I text who are older, they are GIF city. Huh. GIF city. Yeah, where they're just like, yeah, I'm so young. Yeah, and my one friend Cindy, she's so good at it. I'm like, damn. Okay.
Starting point is 00:56:35 Okay, girl. Yeah, I'm like, all right, Cindy. Okay. All right. Is that Miles? No. Oh, all right, Miles. All right.
Starting point is 00:56:40 All right. All right. All right, listener. We love you. Thanks for listening. We'll talk to you next week. Bye-bye. Bye-bye.
