The Downbeat - STATIC DRESS | HEAD INJURIES, PSYCHOTIC EPISODES + UK BANTER
Episode Date: August 5, 2026My guests on the podcast this week are THE WHOLE of UK rock/metal/emo/whatever band STATIC DRESS. We caught up at this year's Inkcarceration festival to talk about the injuries and episodes that a...re the theme of their new album Injury Episode. We also fan-cast a biopic for them and generally have a good bit of UK banter that I enjoyed so very much.

Craig Reynolds.
Craig Reynolds.
Why is that funny?
Just because we're hilarious.
Thanks for coming.
Thanks for having us.
Would you like to introduce yourselves?
I'm George.
I'm Ollie.
And what you do in the band?
I do bass and sometimes vocals, too.
Lead backing vocals?
Lead backing vocals.
Yes.
sing and make noise, isn't that?
I'm the drummer.
I'm Vin.
I'm sorry.
I'm Vin and I play guitar
and do lead low harmonies.
It's true.
No mask.
No mask.
No, we fucked it off.
You were a mask though?
I was the mask, man.
Because I remember last time we did this.
Might have been, might have not been.
Oh, let's talk about drums.
Fucking you.
I was talking about drums.
I forgot last time and I was like,
how old are you?
You were like,
age is just a number.
Doing some fucking.
Am I wrong?
No, but it was like some,
We could start again if you want to start again.
No, and I did, and I said the same thing about contrast.
And you started this.
Didn't start it.
You did.
And then you were like, it was the name of an account that was the burner for it.
And then everyone's like, that's what that is.
And it was like, really?
That wasn't your.
No.
Never was.
It was just meant to be an entity that existed in the background of stuff when it was
way, way, way back in the day when everything was kind of like put together.
It was going to be this entity and idea that existed.
Because you've got to understand that this.
This was created essentially when lockdown hit.
So it was like, right, I've got to start doing law and storybuilding,
all this other shit because I don't think we're ever going to get to a point where we play shows.
So it was like, we'll have this thing in the background and it's like the ghost of, you know,
something that exists and that's how it'll grow from there.
And then shifts around and stuff changes.
And then the next thing, you know, it has to be the forefront of everything.
It was like, oh, all right, this is a thing now, I guess.
And then it just, I don't know, got to a point and people changed and we changed.
and, yeah.
What was the braille thing?
Braille thing.
Was there a video where you had a little bit of braille in it?
Loads, man.
Fucking loads.
Did you do loads of braille, like, secret?
You're a, yeah, Lord.
This is the thing.
It's never been a forefront in, like, oh, here's the law and here's this everything.
If you care about it, you can go and find it and dig and, like, get involved with stuff online.
But I never wanted to be like, here is this thing, this is all it is, this is everything.
It's like, if you care about this on the surface and you come to the shows and you're like,
oh, I like these songs, that's absolutely fine.
But if you care about it more, there's like the whole stories with the comic books and like with like short films that we put together and the whole death display thing we did a few months ago.
That was just to like do this album basically to start off like that.
There was whole law and other bits including that.
So with the music videos this time around, this is us being able to put the law and the ideas to the forefront rather than it having to be like written in braille on the inside of booklets, hidden in video games and also the stuff.
we've now been able to have the tools to be like,
here's a storyline that you can kind of follow from the off.
Is there anything you've done like an Easter egg
and no one's got it yet?
So many.
Really?
Yeah.
You want to give a little like hint out?
Something that you wish people would hurry up and get.
I mean, the biggest one, which no one's found,
that I'm just going to drop now on the original,
original pressing of the Game Boy Advance Catchers that we made.
If you play to the end of the game,
it comes up with an icon of the Game Boy Advance Carches,
and then it just pointing down on it.
And what that basically was meant to say is,
if you take the cartridge out, turn it over,
unscrew it as a QR on the back of that,
on, like, on the PCB board.
And if you scan that and it took you to, like,
I can't even remember, I think it was like snippets of songs
from the album that wasn't even announced.
That's awesome, though.
It took, like, 10 weeks to get all that, like,
laser engraved and stuff like that, yeah.
Did you not think to just sneak it?
No, I mean, what's the fun in that?
Yeah, I just did it, to be honest.
I've got one, actually.
Currently, I've got an Easter egg
that no one's done.
And if you've just unleashed one, I'll unleash one.
Egg for egg.
Okay.
Egg for egg.
An egg for an egg.
Is that an northern thing?
It is now, apparently.
Fucking love a scotch egg, man.
Okay, so on the downbeat merch, very, you know, I'm a fucking loser.
Downbeat law.
Fuck.
There is, whatever the hang tag is.
Yeah.
What's George got to say?
I can feel it brewing inside of it.
I'm listening.
There's a hang tag, which has obviously the logo on it.
And on the other side is...
A what?
Sorry, hang tag.
Hang tag.
You know, like the thing that says the downbeat on it.
Oh, like the thing taggy thing.
No, but like an actual carball won't.
Oh, oh, okay, yeah, sorry.
That like, you know, like Nike and Nike,
like if it was in a shop, where it's not.
Okay, so.
So logo on one side, on the other side is a version of Pat Bateman's business card, right?
No.
But it says the downbeat, Vice President, Pearson Pearson,
and there's a phone number.
If you phone that phone number, which no one's done,
And bear in mind, made a lot of money on that last drop,
just got decking.
They're installing it now.
They really are.
So we've got to hurry up or something.
Go back.
So if you ring that number,
Patrick Bateman is on the other line,
regaling an entire chapter from the book
where he's talking about his outfit,
but I've replaced it with, like, items of downbeat clothing.
You know, when he goes through, like, his routine.
It's incredible, man.
And I was hoping someone not only would get that because it's fun,
but I was hoping someone will get it because it sounds so much like Pat Bateman.
Then I'd get accusations of AI.
But actually, I just paid a voice actor to do it.
Oh, man.
That's class, though.
I know.
I thought it was good.
Brand of applause on that one.
I think the Game Boy one was cool, but people aren't, come on.
No, this is the thing that, someone will have found that,
but they just won't say anything about it because people these days are so gravitated to be like,
I can hate on this and be loud about it and get in tension for me,
rather than half the time being like,
oh, I found this thing and this is cool.
Or they've never seen American Psycho.
True.
Oh, so true.
Might just be getting old.
What does this fucking mean?
It's a business card.
So how old are you?
Old enough?
How old are you?
How old is everyone at 39?
Really?
Yeah, it's coming.
Fuck, I'm not like a shoe when I get to your age.
It's coming.
It's coming for me.
How old is everyone, then?
Are you all fucking secret age band?
No, I'm 28.
I'm 27.
27?
28.
28.
So you're 28?
That's how it fucking works.
How was your show?
How was the festival?
You have to be the same age as everyone
than you're in a band with?
Ollie's 16.
This is where it starts getting dark out of nowhere.
Before I go on to your show today,
which was very good.
You've got a 14 year on your podcast.
Now I see why.
They don't know what we got up to before it.
Or after.
Leave it in.
That was good, man.
Before we get to that, is everyone from Stoke?
No, just me?
Yeah, I was going to say, because there's a lot of accents.
Well, that's mad because between me and him, there's 15 minutes.
All right, so give me the locations.
Bingley?
Originally Bradford would then move to Bingley.
I thought he said England there.
I was fucking got that much.
Bradford and Bingley?
Yeah.
Is that one station?
No.
No.
But is there a station that's Bradford and Bingley?
No, there was...
There's Bramford and Fuster Square.
You get on there, 20 minutes up to Bingley.
And there used to be a big bank in Bingley called Bradford and Bingley.
That's what I'm thinking of.
In my head, there was like an advert for Bradford and Bingley.
Do you ever break in a week once it shut down?
No, we went, we did.
We went snowboarding outside of it.
Oh God, we did, yeah.
We did, yeah, when it snowed.
But no, apparently you could go inside it once it had shut down,
apparently.
Like here?
And, yeah, we used to scare and set stuff on fire.
You see the ghosts of the old banks.
When there was Bingley Music Live on, we used to hide beers in there.
So we could just leave us and get beers and then just go back in.
When I was at school, there was a thing called a sponsored walk.
We were all just, yeah, we were so unhealthy.
They had to make a day out of walking.
Where you walked like, and it was just, oh, it was like 10 miles.
And it was once a term or once a year, I think.
And we used to, on the week before, we'd find one of the places that the walk was going.
on. We dig a hole, bury a bong
and then we nip off on the walk
to go hit the bong and then bury it again and get it back later on.
Unreal. That's some great escape level shit.
It was. Anyway, how's your show?
Good. It was very good.
Hey, where are you from? Huddisfield.
What's the geography here? Yorkshire.
West Yorkshire. Yeah, everyone's in your life.
Basically, now Sam lives in Halifax, so we're all there.
I've moved up north. Sam's come to Yorkshire because it's so great.
I mean this respectively, respectfully.
I could do what I want.
I mean this respectfully.
Leave that in.
It's funny.
Georgia's got Southern energy.

That's horror. That's hot. I can't believe you just said that. That's well unfair.
It's not, no way. I'm Southern. Where are you from?
There's no way of me putting this nicely. Redding.
Shade. I don't know. I just look at it and I think Southern. But then I think Northern, Northern.
Norman.
He's got short hair and he's well-groomed.
I think it is that, yeah.
And he doesn't smell like shit.
I think it is that.
Just had a shower, to be fair.
That might be it.
After a ripping show that you're going to see some footage that we got,
it's just going to be overlaid with me talking
and maybe one of you guys telling me how the show was
while this footage continues to roll.
It was great, apart from we had a bit of a technical who-haha
Yeah, one of the tracks just skipped.
So I was like, it just like, went.
Like, Ollie was like,
Like, this next one's a heavy one.
Fucking open it up.
And then just like the softest song we've ever done came on.
It might have be caught in.
Oh, you just played the next song.
It just came in.
I started a circle bit, everything's going.
I did call that.
And then we started playing hospice.
And I'm like, biggest knobbed in the room right now.
It did, they carried on there.
You got a wall of death.
I saw a couple of failed war of deaths yesterday.
Yeah.
Oh, I mean, thank God for that.
Yeah.
It was funny.
It was funny.
It was funny.
I mean, we just kind of bounce back and laugh from it.
I'll just in them.
And I was like, there's been a few times where I've called out the wrong song on this tall.
So many times.
And then I do it right.
And then I look down on the set list.
And I'm like, oh, then a minute, this isn't me this time.
This is actually.
Oh, this is like the one time you got right.
And it was like.
And I'm like, yeah, cheers for that.
Are you playing a different set every night or you just have no brain?
We, I hit my head last one.
Oh, fuck.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I forgot about his head injury.
We've changed one song out.
but then we also did a headline show
which was a longer, a different set.
So it's kind of been a bit confusing.
And we came from those county blessing shows
where we had to do a different set again or something like that.
Yeah, well, this is the same set as that, in it?
You can ask Ben, he's the one that makes all the sets.
Yeah, go on, Vin.
Contrast, come on.
Awful.
Yeah, it's just like the same set.
Every night for motion, it's not very exciting.
That's about it.
But the headlines, it's ace.
Headlines we play more off the album, which, like the new album, which I fucking love to.
So you did, count your blessings, which feels like fucking last week.
Or was it last week?
It was last week.
It was last week?
And then you went straight to Motionless.
Yeah.
So that tour was, what, a week long so far?
Well, we did trees into the two shows, then into Motionless.
So it was just like...
So this is the start of Motionless.
We've done like three shows.
Yeah.
It's all on cheese, though.
It was I mean three.
Yeah.
And then we did a headline in between.
as well.
So is it you guys
are motionless
festivals in between
or is it just
this?
Headlines in between
part of it.
You hung out
one of those guys yet?
What?
Motionless.
Verny?
Vinny?
A bunch of fucking legends.
Just depressed all of them
was brilliant.
I'm going to make friends
with you right now.
They're all fucking great though.
They're all up for it.
They're all my favorite bands
of all time, to be honest.
They're like,
I didn't know.
I always got told
oh, those guys are
fucking awesome, but I'd never heard the band, and then we toured with them.
And I just thought, in my fucking old man brain, like, I saw what they look like,
which incidentally, I think is sick, but, like, I was like, I'm not going to like this.
And then I heard, like, two songs, this is fucking amazing.
I love that, though.
I absolutely love that, because I think people do the same thing for us where they judge it
off of appearance, and then they'll see it and be like, oh, okay, this is cool.
So I don't know, anyone can kind of knock them for it working and doing so well,
but it is exactly the thing I love about music where you'll try write it off because of the way it's,
you know, put forward to you or the way it's presented.
And then you actually can't deny the fact it's actually really, really good.
Well, they've like changed the look a lot, but it's always looked like them.
Especially like, I don't know, like Chris, I was thinking this other day with Chris,
like what he's wearing on this tall or now is like he looks like he looks like he looks like he looks like he looks like.
looked like 15 years ago
in like,
enaculate misconception,
first record,
music video.
I just can't believe
his name's not
Chris motionless.
It is?
It's not.
I mean,
I've never even thought
about that fact.
It's definitely not his name,
is it?
Heartbroken, man.
I'm sure it's out on
them fucking
Southern energy.
That's his new
name.
Why do you think
he will write you off?
What,
you got weird?
He's not got a mask
anymore.
You just look weird.
I don't know because we just dress.
He looks southern.
I think my bi alone.
He's not southern.
I don't know.
Just the way it's presented,
the fact that I dress
the way I do,
not making it about me here,
but like just sometimes
the way it is in music videos
and other stuff like that,
people will go on YouTube,
Google it, and then just see that.
And it's, you know,
they'll write off as that
instead of actually listening
to the song a lot of the time.
Like you'll see a lot of the comments
being pretty insanely homophobic
and all this other stuff
and then you actually do a sonic comparison
to peers or someone else
and it's like we actually sometimes write
songs that are heavier than
XYZ band that we get compared to.
You get anamorphobic shit?
Yeah.
You wear as an eye makeup?
That's not gay though, is it?
People don't like that, do you?
Insecure.
Before we wrote for that, that's like David Bowie.
It's still real.
I think it's unbelievably real
and it's also so real in metal to the point where you won't actually notice it
unless you're on the receiving end of it.
Like there's times before when I've even said to like these
where we'd be on a tour and the way that I get spoken to
versus the way that everyone else gets spoken to is completely different.
By who? Like staff?
I'm not outing people on this, but there's been moments around.
Give me a vague outing.
No.
But like staff at venues?
No, like dudes and bands, yeah.
It's pointless me holding on to the...
This is something learning here.
It's pointless me holding on to energy of hating people
because it absolutely does nothing for me personally.
You don't get anything from revenge?
No, it's pointless.
I get so much from revenge.
It's pointless because it just creates this never-ending cycle
and if someone can just try to burn me and do all this shit,
I can just be like, all right, well, I'm just going to ignore you doing that
and you can go cry in a corner over there.
I'm going to be with my friends making some really cool shit over here
and just succeeding.
That's somewhat revenge, though.
I'll put that in revenge.
Do you want to look at it down a lens like that,
but I think it's more in a sense of I'm at peace with myself and you're not,
and it sucks to be insecure little man.
I think it's just being the bigger person.
I'm not that tall, though.
No, you're not.
Not small as George.
Southern energy, I'm not me?
Before we get into something I want to do based on your appearance.
Oh, God.
No, actually, while we're on that subject, you know, who got it real fucking bad?
Who? Caleb recently.
That whole fucking thing.
Prime example of it.
People being like metal such, accepting an open place and all this other shit.
I'm like, here is unbelievable proof that it's not.
Like, it sucks to see someone like expressing themselves and, you know, doing it in a way.
And that becoming bigger tabloid headline news than an artist releasing an album.
Yeah.
Like, not just even the song.
Yeah, well, my thing is, I'm just like, whatever you do in your personal life, right,
should not be
considered when you're an artist
like you just shouldn't
like no one should give a fuck at all
respectfully but people seem to
give more of a shit
about who you're sleeping with
or like what
colour your fucking pants are
versus the art that you output which is ultimately
the thing that gets you to the status where people care
about it it's just a revolving
situation it's shit I've got a weird
take on it as well because
so all that stuff happened
McCaleb coming out and it was like there was admittedly a
fucking hell of a lot of homophobia but from people who I never
considered like in our fucking scene anyway like they might have been we're in
the scene but we don't like you yeah but then their fucking AI video thing by
accident I've got a theory right with with stuff like this everyone gives
everyone leeway for like not everyone but
50% of people would give like,
well done Caleb for coming out, right?
I saw people who were posting
Well done Caleb for coming out.
Two weeks later,
they accidentally used a bit of AI
and there was a news thing about that.
The same people, like, fuck this, bad!
What's the other thing I was saying about
where people won't comment about stuff
you do good like the Easter egg and also the stuff,
but they'll be so vocal and loud
about the fact that they can put someone else down.
This is depressing.
Let's talk about something else.
Drums.
How about drums?
Pardon the intrusion guys, but if you are looking for just one festival to hit for the rest of this year,
make sure it's louder than life. It's happening September 17th to the 20th at the Highland Festival
grounds in Louisville, Kentucky. I went there last year and it was the best festival I've ever been to.
No joke. Four days, six stages, over 160 bands. Whether you're into legendary headliners like
Limp Biscuit or Toll, or you just want to go and see the best band on the planet Gojira,
Loud of Life is for you.
You'll be hanging out with thousands of people that love heavy music, just like me, just like you.
In fact, I'm going to be there.
I'm going to be doing podcasts.
I want you to let me know who you want from that festival on the podcast.
I also want you to let them know that I'm going to be there.
So they come and talk to me, do my work for me, please.
But also I'll do my work.
Do 10% of the work.
Grab your tickets at louder than LifeFestival.com and I will hopefully see you there at one of the best,
if not the best metal festival on the planet.
Back to the show.
Oh yeah, the title fight thing, right?
Exactly the same thing.
What was the title fight?
If you go to a restaurant.
Oh, you don't know.
If you go to a restaurant,
you have a bad time,
you're going to leave a bad review.
But if you have a great time,
probably not going to leave a good review.
Okay.
So we did this title fight thing.
We covered serving the skin.
Oh, I did see it.
There was all this stuff about the backlash,
and it's like,
So weird.
Wait, explain what happened.
We basically did, like, it was like a fake-out intro thing.
Fucking awesome, by the way.
Because we were doing a secret set.
So no one knew it was us, didn't know who it was going to be.
So we just, like, faked.
It was going to be title-fite for a laugh.
Made like a logo that transformed from the floral green artwork into ours.
Even though, mind, VIN's literally standing on stage.
I'm not really, were people like, were people before?
Forehand speculating it was going to be title fight.
No.
Imagine you were.
Imagine you're like title fight.
You've turned down X amounts of money for 10 years to come play a show.
Yeah, they're going to play at 3pm on outbreak.
To me, that whole thing just proves everyone is taking off about it,
how disconnected from what you claim to be part of.
Purely because I'm like, as points that Ving have just said,
there's so much which means it wouldn't happen.
And you're there being like, fuck this band,
because they did this thing and they fucking screwed everyone.
and over.
And then there was this post
that came out
and someone was just like,
yeah,
they did this and then
half the crowd left.
And I'm like,
just didn't happen though,
did it?
You can see like five people
leaving,
but they probably just don't like us,
which is fine.
Which is absolutely fine.
Also had fucking injury episode
album artwork on the kick drum.
Yeah.
So it's probably not going to be
title fight.
Weirdly enough.
Weirdly enough.
But I also think
if it was any other band,
if it was like,
you know,
cool guy,
tough guy,
bro, macho band,
right,
who did that.
Everyone would be like,
this was hilarious.
this was so sick.
I thought it was hilarious for the record.
It was funny as fuck, it was fucking jokes.
I think more people should do that.
But unfortunately,
there's some things that you just apparently can't
have a laugh about to some people.
Don't I know.
I think most people took it in the right way, though.
This is what I mean.
Was there back lanish or was it made up backwash?
This is what I mean about the comments
is I'm like, you're more likely to say something bad
than say something good
because you probably just see it laugh and then scroll on.
It was everyone coming at us as a band
rather than the thing, which I thought was crazy,
being like, oh, imagine getting, like, pissed off by, like, the shittest band ever.
And I was like, I just kept replying to people.
I just kept a reply.
I was like, I've had enough in a comment.
People were just like, fucking shit band, man.
I was like, show me your band then.
But here's a weird thing, no.
Great answer, by the way.
That's what I always do.
I hated this podcast, and they're like, they like timestamp something
where it's like an hour and a half in.
It's like, that's on you.
Yeah, you're sick at reply.
hate this podcast.
You've just timestamped one hour, 30 minutes in.
It took you 90 minutes.
It took you Shrek 2.
To realize.
Soundtrack.
Yeah, soundtracks.
It's one of the end supposed to the album, actually.
Is it?
Do you want to talk about that?
Yeah.
Human tracks?
The Eels.
Shrek 2, question mark.
No, it wasn't.
Fucking unreal.
Yeah.
No, do you know.
No, no.
No, that's Shrek one.
I think she blows up the bird.
Shrek one.
No, no, Shrek two, they've got that song.
That way we've kept a seed.
It's where...
How's a fucking song?
It's the sleep song, in it?
Where...
While she sleeps?
So while she sleeps on?
Yeah, Intract 2.
Seven Hills to start, just hear the riff and it's like...
Do you want to talk about your new album?
Yeah.
Absolutely.
Go on.
Let's talk about Shrek.
Injury episode.
It's good.
It came out a fucking win last week.
It's going on for May.
Oh, fuck me. Where are we? July? I'm terrible.
But it feels like last week.
It's gone rapid.
Yeah. It's gone really quick. It's been sick.
Good response.
Better than I could imagine, to be honest.
I want to know two things.
How are you guys writing a song?
So for this time round, it was, we're different because this was a lot of us jamming in real time,
tracking it in and then taking time and expanding it.
versus before where it was like sat at a laptop and being like,
here's the song, this is the idea of it,
and doing it this way around.
Like, it's something that George says a lot,
but you can hear each individual person giving their own to this album now.
And as much as people love to throw the revival core tag on us a lot of the time,
I think it's probably just because of some of the vocal delivery more than anything.
This time around, it's, I just think personally it's an album that stands on its own.
And I think with time,
well because there's a lot of people who've been like first listen I didn't get it
but I just ended up listening to it for five to like five times and now I love it and
I'm like well there you go so you sit in a room and jam it to write the songs yeah or
it went into the studio we went to Airbnb they're all kind of different yeah it's like
different with every song some of them's just like a five second thing vinyl
have made on a guitar and then it's a like hospice was like that there were some songs
which we we completely scrapped out the pile and then they ended up actually just
Yeah, we weren't going to work on Hospice at all.
Yeah.
And it ended up being a singles.
Oh, blah.
Yeah.
Adult Diamond, yeah.
It was just an idea which we were like, no.
And then we pulled it in and actually made it a full song.
And I was like, oh, great.
Where did you record?
Multiple spaces, just Airbnbs.
I think that's for demos.
Demo and Pre-Pro, we just did at Airbnbs.
So we'd just like get an Airbnb for a week and a half.
We'd have an electric kit so we could record the midian.
So you could jam.
live record exactly what you're playing.
If you want to change any bits, you could.
Because it's just in MIDI, and we did that.
I think we did three or four sessions of that.
We did some in Wales and then one in Austin.
And then one in Bayquah, believe it.
Where did you actually record?
A studio.
Who recorded it?
I did the drums.
Really?
Yeah.
Good for you.
What is he the best?
What is he expecting like big fucking name?
Because it's the drum, like the drum town in particular.
Vincent Waite.
Contrast.
He's the fucking one man.
Like, the drum sounds fucking great.
Yeah.
Because it's all real,
because he'll dial it into the point
where you don't even consider things
and he'll sit there with a tape measure
and fucking redo everything
and make it right.
And when you've got him plus him,
it makes the best drum sound in the world.
Did you do it to a click?
We did it to a click,
but we didn't quantize it.
Yeah, okay, because I could hear,
I can hear like the flex in it,
and I was like, even these motherfuckers did it live
or it's just not edited.
Yeah,
We just, like, the way that we'd normally do it will be,
we'd do like five takes of the song.
And then we would get a comp, like Sam would come back in,
we'd get a comp together.
And then we'd just go over the bits that were like,
Sam wasn't happy with or we thought we could do differently.
And we'd just go and punch those bits in.
I think it took us like two or three days.
Yeah.
Two or three days to do the whole album.
Yeah.
We did two extra songs as well.
I'm going to tell you one thing that's you probably already know.
What are you fucking saying?
No.
You two having a little.
fucking
it was the worst
right
nothing
nothing
mystery
I can fucking check
later
the microphone's on
I'm gonna
tell you one thing
you're even
going to agree
or I'm going to
piss you off
yeah
track one sounds
different
to the rest of the
album
it kind of does
it doesn't
sound bad though
it's just like
the mix
changes
the mixing
the mixing process
was
weird
it was
it was
it was sick
like
who we were
working with
Hunter and his assistant Brandon they were the most patient people
Hunter mood ring yeah yeah yeah and Brandon from Sacco
Brandon Lopez yeah they were so patient so like just any amendments they were like
no worries no problem yeah but it was we ended up having to like do probably like
60 70% of the mixing in two like 14 hour sessions overnight like
few days beforehand.
It sounds fucking great.
It sounds like real.
Without being like when the bands go,
oh, we're going to get a real drum sound.
It's like,
well, you've just sampled it,
but the snare's ringy.
Like, not a real...
It's because everything in it is real, really done.
Like, if you listen to the stems,
like the untouched stems of everything,
it's doing a lot of the work itself,
and then them two came in and kind of sprinkle magic over
and turn things up and sort of out some vocal bits
and made them, like, happen and stuff.
but we wanted to ensure that everything from the get was kind of as perfect as could be,
within obviously time limitations.
So there's like chops and changes here and there,
but we just wanted it to be the most honest and proper version of the four of us represented as we can really.
Because over the last couple of years of playing songs from the West record,
we've developed them and we've developed within ourselves and playing with each other.
But it's like, okay, how do we harness that into songs?
We have to shout Eric out as well.
Not Eric from Lowe's producer record.
Of course he fucking did.
That's why that's good.
He also was on some of the mixing session.
So there was some of the tunes that he was helping to mix as well.
And they sounded great.
So he produced the whole record with you.
Yeah.
Apart from it as well.
Adaptors got a fucking...
A big fucking load of him all over it.
That song...
Don't tell me you don't like that song.
No, I love that song.
That's my favourite song now.
I'm saying, the journey with some of these songs
has been like, fuck me.
Probably months of deciding whether or not to do a key change.
The fucking key change.
I don't think I've ever heard of a metal.
Into a solo.
I don't think I ever heard a fucking key change in metal.
Name another one.
Would you call us metal?
It counts.
What are you calling yourself?
Emo.
It's just straight up email.
Tip your mind
I just got a key changed
Yeah
It is though
It's emo
But we do play breakdowns
Like it is
Because it's like
Sentiment of what all the songs are about
Is emo
We have songs that are
As light as like
The 19705
But then we have songs
That go
Borderline
I don't know
Like
I don't even know
Like deathcore and shit
Like that
In moments
Yeah so that's metal to me
If I'm going at HMV
If you're American
Tower Records.
There's no emo.
I mean, it probably is now.
Definitely.
Definitely.
It definitely fucking is.
Anyway, in like music as heavy is, I will go, let's just call you metal for the sake of some of the breakdowns are very, very heavy.
Name me another fucking key change.
Emo's got some key changes, but like I can't think of a breakdown band.
You're right.
With a fucking.
Mariah Carey level key change.
It's a fucking banger.
Whose idea with that?
I can't remember.
I think we tried it in another song.
I don't want to put my name in that.
It was a concept before to have a key change somewhere.
Because we kept saying it as a joke, this is the thing about,
we kept saying it as a joke all the time in every single song.
Like, put a key change in, put a bass while solo in.
I play guitar on that song.
You do?
Yeah.
Just the lead in the second bass.
Yeah, that was a bit.
It's my clip.
I love the fact that stemmed from a joke.
I've got a theory that all of like,
iconic bits of music
stem from a joke.
Like bleed by my sugar.
There's no way that wasn't a joke.
They didn't just sit there and go,
what if we just went d-l-d-d-l-da for eight minutes
and they're all laughing about it
and then it's the best song.
Like a key change,
I was like,
I wonder if that started as a joke
and they did it and was like,
actually this is fucking banging.
There was a long time where there was a lot of uncertainty
about it as well, though.
I loved it.
I loved it.
It was fucking unreal.
I fucking loved it.
More key changes.
Not real.
Living on a car.
It's like,
It's the, you wait, someone will do it now.
You'll be starting.
Yeah, I mean, Bon Jovi have done it.
I mean, like, in your world,
it'll be like the reggaeton fucking knock-loose breakdown.
We throw one of them in every day as well.
Yeah, yeah, there's a bunch of those.
That's fun, though.
Yeah.
But like the key change, bring the key change back.
Not wrong.
Yeah.
Get that on a shirt.
See, if we did just left that,
death or back, bring back the key change.
Yeah.
I think if we would have left that,
chorus in the same key
we would have been like
we would have tried to do something different with the song
because that's like
it would have just been boring
the key change completely changes
that song takes it from like sound to fuck me
yeah because I remember the
the bridge
the bridge just before it was meant to be
this like well it is this like this epic thing
and I was like oh imagine if we did like
death heaven vocals on this way it's all like there
up there bit
and the blast me
yeah wasn't that no no
So it was blast beat or Q-Chene?
It was just some crazy shit, and it was like,
oh, Mad Intense, just, you know,
just kind of jumping between different lanes of, like,
bands that we like, or, like, ideas from bands that we like.
And the high vocal thing stayed, the bass beat went.
Thank God.
And then it was just like, you know,
it then slammed into the key change,
and it was like, oh, well, there's a section there
where it's something that we've never done within the four of us,
and the band's never touched,
and it's just completely different.
No one else has done.
Also, there's one of my favorite fills on the album in that section.
Is there one in the middle where you're like, boom, begin,
drum, bam, do and bab, da-bda-b-da-bo.
Oh, yeah.
So I want to get rid of that.
Is that fucking, no.
No, that's the fucking best fill on the album.
I think Eric, I think Eric wants to get rid of.
Yeah, fucking.
You know, Eric.
That new Lowe record as well, it's just fucking.
Oh, my.
I was going to send it to me a while ago, and I, like, had a recency-biased,
reactionary opinion.
I heard it, and I was like, I think that's one of the best album.
I've ever heard in my life.
And then it came out the other day
because the fucking link expired
and I couldn't listen to it anymore.
And it came out and I was like,
no, I really do think that's fucking up there.
It's unreal.
It's a man that always makes generational moves
and it's the thing that I said on the last time
we did this as well.
They're always so far ahead of the curve
that no one's going to get it for three years.
Give it three years from now.
Everyone's going to be ripping off that shit
and they're on the next thing.
It happens every fucking time that band release
and something.
Prepare, consume, proceed, happen then.
Cold Sun happened then
because then you've got everyone
being like a horror call band
and like in the Silent Hill thing
they then do
I let it in
and every band's trying to do
the death tones thing
for the next five years
now you're going to have this
where it's the super dry drums
mixed like an indie record
but it's got guitars
that sound like chainsaws
all the singing is like
quite low and like reserved
everyone's just going to be trying
to emulate this for like the next decade
easily
and it's going to be too late
because they're going to come out
and do something else
but I do feel like it's also a record
where they found themselves
as themselves as mature adults
and they've hit a time
time now where it's like
this is who we are as people.
Like there's probably still going to be evolution and change,
but I feel like they've cemented themselves
of not being like, oh, this is a band
that sounds like, no.
One of my first reactions to that album was
because I was messaging Eric whilst I was listening to it
and I was like, this feels like the album
you have always wanted to make.
It's amazing, like, particularly
the softer songs on there, harder to pretend,
which I think Faisal sings on.
Oh, not harder to pretend.
The way it breaks.
The way it breaks, yeah.
The way it breaks.
Oh, my word.
The fucking intro as well.
The intro.
It's like fucking Kendrick.
Well,
it's the thing,
it's an album that stands a test of time within itself,
and it will probably forever.
I think it's like,
without sounding really woo-woo,
it's like,
there's not many,
and I'd include you guys in this,
because you don't compromise.
It's like,
it's actual art,
rather than being like,
I make art,
and it's like,
what's your band?
It's like,
for car effects.
Leave it in.
Leave it the fucking.
Do you know what I mean?
No, that was just the first band.
No, that was the first band.
I didn't, I did get what it is.
It's people, and there's nothing wrong with it.
There's nothing wrong with bands like that.
There's people who like to make a certain thing,
and that's what they make, and they get their bag off it,
and they can feed their family, and that's what it is.
But it's like there's certain bands that will, you know,
go against the grain and have everyone who's putting money into them,
hating on what they're doing, hating on it taking so long,
feeding, poisoning the rear.
just need to get out, just need to get out, just need to get out.
And they'll go against it and they'll care about what they care about.
And then it drops, does really well.
And all these people have been chatting, shutting it for so long,
we'll turn around and be just like, oh, well, you know,
I've always said it was going to be great.
It's like the feature that I did on the song on that record.
That was recorded, I think, I like the start of last year.
Like it was a long, long time ago.
And then in April, I think, no, it might have been March.
Eric hit me up and he was like, oh, can you just record?
and more samples and in my head I was like if I don't do this the second I get through my apartment
door right now this is going to be another three months on this record I was like fuck this I just
literally like ran into my room through my duvet over my head and I blow my voice out because we've been
doing all day um already so I just had to track some more ad lib stuff on that like for us
and those guys and then being like family to us seeing them go through this such a long period of
time hearing so many different versions of these songs it's like
I was like, I need you to get it out for you
because it's been so long
that you've actually forgotten what it feels like
to release a body of music.
Yeah, it's been what, like six years?
Six.
We've had a whole career in the time
it's taken them to do a new record.
Me and then both got married.
Congrats.
Together.
Lovely, family band.
How is Nashville?
You're all been in Nashville now, right?
Yeah, it's good.
Yeah, I love it.
Sound.
So it's weird.
Obviously, it's fucking weird.
All the food.
sucks. Food is my biggest
problem. Food is
I can't eat it every day, man.
We fucking do.
I know. It's, the food is the only
thing where even just like supermarket shit. This is
boring and people want to talk about your album. But like
supermarkets are going to buy food
like to get
the same sort of like
because I eat meat to get the same sort
of you know like
livestock or
fucking cattle like it have been
treated right
it's like fucking 30 bucks
because their cheap meat
is fucking
kicked around a bit or whatever
horrible.
Horrible shit.
Just keep on your album now
it's not about me.
Why do you want to know?
Lyrically.
You can give me the fucking footnotes
but this is not why you're here.
Yeah.
What's the deal lyrically?
Is it about your injury?
No. Well, it's fitting
because that
kind of like worked out
into being the title.
but the title was done.
I came up with that title when we finished the last record.
That title has been a thing for about four years.
But the whole record itself, I mean, you can read the lyrics on it,
but it's about a lot of different moments in my life when I was younger
and I went through a lot of shit that kind of changed me a lot mentally
and damaged me a fair bit.
And I kind of buried it all the way.
And then in 2023,
we did that last podcast I basically had like a massive psychotic mental breakdown from it and
fucking went missing and all this of the shit because everything that had repressed I basically
had just it just came out and I remembered a lot of horrible stuff that I went through so in basically
this album is about a lot of the trauma and like getting over things and working through it and once
once you get to the end of it, you realize there's no, like, tying it up. There's no, oh, you know,
you were bad, you were like in a bad spot and now you're good. It's still me trying to say
goodbye to things that have fucked me up for so long. Like, no one's pointing this out, but intentionally
it's like the first song has the lyrics like goodbye in it and the last one has the lyrics
goodbye in it because at the start I'm trying to get rid of it. And at the end, I'm still realizing
that it's not gone. Yeah. You know? And it's like recently I've kind of gone through something
just before we came out here, where I've now started to, like, actually put the time and the
effort in and found out the things that are wrong and, like, tried to just change my life
a bit more for not just me, the people around me, because it's like, I don't, it's horrible,
because I don't really value my life at all, but I value my life to other people, you know,
and it's like if I wasn't for, if it wasn't for these guys, I, I won't be here now.
and everything that that record's written about
is basically that.
That's really dark.
I thought it was going to be fun.
Sorry, I didn't.
I knew it was going to be dark.
This is the worst bit of eye.
And then I see someone being like, the lyrics on this is shit.
And I'm like, yeah, man.
I'm like, this is the thing as well.
It's like the last record was a lot of stories
and a lot of cool narrative
and like building through other characters.
So there'd be like a situation in my life that happened
and I'd be like, okay, I can like glamourize this
and make.
it more dramatic and, you know, create characters and talk about it in the third person
constantly.
Where there's this time around, there's a lot of eyes and me's and whee's and stuff like that
because it is just direct, you know, and there's like, there's some like drama, dramatic,
I don't know the way.
Dramatization.
Yeah, that's the one.
There is some of that in there, but a lot of it is just kind of first-hand experience
and a big thing, which was really difficult as well.
After everything that happened in December when I smashed my head in.
I lost a lot of my memory
so I kind of couldn't remember
what this album was about
and I had to go through it again
but the way I see it is
when you do a scary game
again for the second time
you know where all the jumps scares are
you know where this is you know gonna go
and you kind of speed run it
and it's a lot smoother
of a transition going through these things
and that's kind of what it was like
going through again it was like I couldn't remember exactly
what happened but it wasn't as
traumatic to go through this time
you lost the memory of the thing
you'd been right. I lost so much. I got home.
What happened? Give me the...
So, we played Baltimore, and
I can't even really remember it that well, to be honest,
but playing Baltimore, it's going off, everything's going great,
and this guy runs up behind me, and you know the move where you jump over,
three legs over, that's, you know, hardcore, whatever.
Soundstage, is it Soundstage, right?
Soundstage. It's a venue that normally has a barricade,
headliner didn't want a barricade because I just wanted to march up.
cool, no swell, and then this happens, I get shoved,
and then the people hit at the front catch me,
but they can't hold my weight plus another person.
So I just fall, and they grab my arms.
So I'm falling towards the floor, and I'm just like,
okay, I'll turn it at the last minute.
I don't know what, I bounce my head off,
whether it is another person, where there was a floor,
but I just went, and then everything went white,
I couldn't see, I was like, I'm blind,
I'm literally blind.
Got back up on stage, and we finished the last two songs,
and then I just got offstage.
and I just felt this shooting pain going down from the back of my head
all the way down my back.
And all that was going through my head is,
you'll see that Facebook video where that boxer gets punched in the back of the head
and he's like,
the next video is like in a wheelchair and like,
fuck.
I was all that was going through my head.
And I was like,
I'm fucked and pocked,
I'm fucked.
End up in a back of an ambulance, I think,
because there's photos and videos of it.
Yeah.
I then didn't go to hospital.
Because you're in America and it would cost a lot of money.
I think that's what my thought around that time was.
Yeah.
I stayed awake the whole night because I've had concussions before
and I just thought it was that.
We then go and play New York.
We're in New York.
We did New York.
Yeah.
So, yeah, we're in New York.
And we play the show.
As we're playing the show, I remember looking at him
and everything starts doing this and going all tunnel vision.
I'm like, I'm blacking out.
I'm like, I'm literally blacking out.
Like my vision's also fucked as well.
I can only see like three rows in.
And I'm like, this is shit.
I'm like, I feel fucking horrible.
Anyway, show finishes.
It was okay, I think.
And then I go upstairs and I'm yapping and I'm yapping, I'm yapping, I'm yapping, I'm yapping, I'm like, I feel pissed.
I was like, I actually feel drunk as fuck and this is horrible.
You don't drink?
I haven't drunk for eight years.
So I'm like, this is insane.
I haven't eaten anything all day and all I had had was the broth from a ramen because I couldn't stomach anything because I'm like concussion, head spinning, bad idea to eat anything.
Got a bed that night, my bunk.
wake up the next morning
and I've been
pretty sick
someone's pissed in my pants
someone else pissed in my pants
it was been
it was probably good
pissing on me whilst I'm asleep
Was that your first thought
someone's pissed my pants
Ladd I woke up and I couldn't even like
I couldn't feel my hands
my head was just like hurting
like fuck
God that's scary
yeah and I couldn't figure it out
and then I remember Tess basically
asked me
she was just like what's happened
and I couldn't even really
speak. I was just like, this just happened or whatever. Fast forward from there, in the hospital,
have these probe things put in my head, like spikes put in my head, they rip out of like a load
of my hair, just like the worst time ever. And basically, she said, I can't remember this properly,
so if I'm quoting this or whatever, but she basically was like you've had X, like the brain
activity that we're seeing, you've had X amount of seizures in the past 24 hours. So I'd effectively
just completely fried my fucking brain. Shit. And there was times where I was
sat in the hospital, like, laid there.
I'd look at my phone, and all the messages would look like Invisible Ink.
I couldn't read anything, and nothing was making sense.
I'd try to think, and it was like my brain kept stopping me from being out.
I think about things.
There's times where I'd look over at RTM tests.
I'd look over it, and a face had changed from, like, three different people.
And I was like, oh, I'm absolutely cooked.
And I didn't say any of this.
If you were on drugs, kind of cool, but not now, but I was just waking up and being like that.
The worst part is I like,
I didn't say half of this stuff at the time
because I think I was just so scared of letting people down
because whilst this is all happening,
we're in a financial sport where we couldn't afford to miss shows.
So I'm in hospital for X amount of days or weeks
or whatever's going on,
and then these three just have to play shows without me,
which, you know, unbelievable, like smashed it,
got all the shows done.
Yeah, Emma helped out.
Austin, Adam, like, loads of people helped out,
And it's fucking, it was amazing
and it felt really nice.
But it's also that same feeling of like
watching someone else do it
made me feel even worse about myself.
Because I was just like,
I feel like I'm letting everyone down.
But we had like no choice
but to do that
because we'd be financially absolutely fucked.
Yeah.
I'd also like to shout out Tess
who was taking Olly
to a bunch of different hospitals
trying to keep up with the tour.
Yeah.
Driving around, staying up all night.
Do you know you're getting a shout out here?
well you get the shout out
here we are yeah
it was uh
yeah it was amazing
yeah
it was hell of man
test is always amazing
real life
yeah
yeah
so cheers for that
so
and then
was there any
resolved to it
or it's just
we kept tour
and I came back
when we played
Charlotte
and I remember it being
so fucking horrible
like was it
Charlotte
no it was
yeah
yeah
it was my halls
oh hi
Lakewood
Cleveland
Cleveland
Cleveland
and I was
stood on stage
and the strub
started going off
and my brain just started, like, I felt these, like, popping in the back of my head like that.
And I was like, what the fuck is going on?
I couldn't think of what to do.
And I played it off for weeks that everything was fine.
And it slowly started getting a bit better.
But I'd find myself constantly crashing out and, like, going down and stuff.
And then I started suffering from psychosis really badly in January when we're doing that pale face tour.
And I remember this one moment we sat on the bus, and I was having this conversation with Sam for about an hour.
And then I looked up and Sam wasn't there.
I just fucked off.
I just imagined the whole thing.
I just imagined.
And that stuff still happening?
That's like subsided now.
But you have no real answer on...
Well, the problem is, more my medical records are in America.
When GP you over here, can't get hold of them.
NHS, you know, credit to it, but it's also a bit crap.
I broke my back in Scotland.
Yeah.
My dad did the same.
I broke my back in England and I lived in Scotland.
And they couldn't get the scan.
from here to here.
And God bless the NHS, yeah,
but it was just like, okay, well, I guess go to a physio.
If no scan, I think I'm fine.
It was fucked, and it's like,
I've tried to get psychiatric components and other stuff like that.
Like, it's in the works now after some kind of recent events that have gone on.
So it's like moving forward now eventually,
but it was like trying to get any help on stuff
was impossible because doing touring,
I'd be like, oh, I need to do it.
Like, you know, before this and they go, oh, we can't do that,
but we can only do this day.
And it has to be in person.
And I'm like, I'm literally in America.
What else that's happening?
Well, that's a six-month waiting list or what?
Exactly.
How are you feeling now?
One to ten?
One to ten.
Today's been okay, up and down.
About seven today.
Like, wake up and it's like social anxiety.
You can get really bad.
It can feel like stuff's kind of crushing in on me
and not wanting to be here becomes like a current theme
without getting too different.
But is that post-injury or is that just general mental health?
Because I feel like that every day.
Like a kind of recent diagnosis I've had,
they think it's kind of fucked up my fight or flight thing.
Really?
So whenever like high stress or something gets involved,
my brain just runs off the deep end with things.
Is that fight or flight?
Well, it's like it just, it kicks into like, oh, no, that's the same thing.
I was back in my head.
I was like, it's two options.
Yeah, it just goes into overdrive.
Or sometimes something will kick off.
My brain's like, doesn't compute, you know.
So you want to do something fun then?
I'd love to.
You want to do something fun?
Wait, one to ten, what's today?
What's today?
Yeah.
I'd say about a seven.
Let me see if we can make it more than a seven.
Okay.
We need a beer.
Not wrong.
Not fucking wrong.
I hope you're feeling better now.
Sound, yeah.
I'm sound.
I'm sound.
Okay.
This is the thing that I did the other day and I was like, I love this as a segment and I hope other people do.
But I also don't care because I have such a fun time doing it.
Thank God.
So, there's going to be a biopic.
Biopic?
Biopic.
Biopic.
Biopic.
Can have a definition of.
that please a movie about you know like the fucking one about freddie mercury the one about
elvis right there's going to be one about static dress you got cast actors okay for yourselves
or each other Kevin bacon no no I did no no no no you don't know you and none of you've got
like I got one I left sirria mckella just because he's a legend it's not gonna work
conceptually yeah I agree but it's not going to work
for myself yeah for myself no you can cast someone else
if you want to be like I can't do this but it has to be universally agreed upon
I'm going to tell you dying wish we're fantastic at this
American
what is that
they're just good at talking about films and themselves
this is true
this is true nice love love you love you love of this
Hugh Laurie
Hugh Laurie yeah okay now we're fucking cooking
That's Hugh Lorry.
Also, when's this come out?
Is it like later in our life that it comes out?
The podcast.
No, still.
Probably.
The podcast will come out later in your life from today.
This movie doesn't really exist.
But yeah, you can, you know, there's some, you can sort of bend the rules here.
I think you have to AI deage this person to do like the youthful part of.
No, I'm going to take Hugh Lorry because I can see it.
Hugh Lorry's ace.
I'll say it.
And then, you know, maybe it's a flash forward, and it's Hugh Lorry.
It doesn't matter.
I'm black out of business.
Hugh Lorry that's locked in.
Yeah, he is.
Yeah, that's fucking ice.
Give me a sick one now.
Give him bacon.
No idea.
Umpulumpa.
No.
No.
Someone small and southern, apparently.
Small and southern.
Oh, the guy who plays Spider-Man.
Richard Hammond.
Richard Hammond.
I'll take Richard Hammond.
Wait, the guy who played Spider-Man, which one?
Tom Holland.
Tom Holland?
That's Tom Holland.
That's pretty good.
They love Tom Holland now as well.
He probably would play me.
That's Tom Holland.
Who loves Tom Holland?
Warwick Davis.
Everyone.
Them?
Them in Hollywood.
I mean, he's great.
I haven't seen the Odyssey yet.
Do you care?
No, we won't go see it.
He is good, though.
He's great.
What's that thing about IMAX with the Odyssey?
because it's shot in IMAX,
so you're meant to go watch out of the IMAX,
isn't it?
In Bradford?
In the only movie ever made
100% on IMAX film,
which is 70 mil.
So it's 3-4 or whatever it is, I guess.
And there's only 39 movie theaters in the world
that have a film projector for IMAX.
And one of them is in Bradford?
And one of them's in Nashville,
from going on Wednesday.
It's not all on IMAX.
No.
But they said that they made a new monochrome.
You only made an infomerome.
it so that it could all be
iMac's 70mm. This is some
nerd shit for you right here. This is, yeah, but I don't
think he actually got away with it.
No. But this one he did, 172
minutes of IMAX film.
Man was boring as a whole man. Thank you.
So boring.
Barbie was so much better.
I did the double bill.
Barbie was fucking sick.
I love Tup and I'm.
Barbie's one of my favorite films ever, I know what happened.
Fucking big nuclear bomb goes on.
I know.
But it only goes off once.
Here's the thing.
If they'd end at that movie,
when it goes, fuck me.
If they'd end of that movie there,
awesome.
I don't need to see the fucking paperwork.
It's like, I'm a nerd, though.
After it, all right.
You're a nerd.
You're a nerd.
I'm a nerd.
Hugh Laurie.
Maddie tells me I'm a nerd.
Hugh Laurie, Tom Holland,
this is good with cooking.
Who are you?
I don't know.
I don't know. Some ginger acts of I have no idea.
Who was the one on Doctor Who?
The...
His companion?
Billy Piper.
No, no.
They want to play to Amy T.
The Scottish one.
Yeah.
I was done it with Amy.
You can be the ones from Frey.
Yeah, she's in Avengers.
Oh, really?
She?
She still don't have a name.
Yeah, yeah.
We just got...
I mean, yeah, but when I was a kid,
I thought you were talking about Billy Piper.
No, no.
You want to be played by a woman?
No.
No, I want to be played by...
Who's the Ginger Woman from Doctor Who?
Aaron Gillespie.
I'll be played by...
Yeah, classic, great actor.
Arangal Asby.
I'm on air.
I'm on air play mode right now.
Hold on.
Sorry.
Is Aaron Gillespie one of your favourite dramas?
Yeah, he's a fucking legend.
Do you think that, and I know, this is going to sound insane,
do you think it's because you saw a ginger person doing what you wanted to do?
Like ginger representation.
I don't mean that in an offensive way.
Yeah, I'm not genuinely asking because you look so similar to each other.
Cancel can.
I was a good.
Cancel can't for want?
Can I not say ginger anymore?
No, no.
I said it with an A.
leaving it.
Who's playing Ollie?
Go on, Craig.
Give us one for Ollie.
They've got to be like...
They've got to be hot.
Sharon Oswald.
Cheers for that.
Sharon Alton.
Sharon Oswald.
Thank God.
They got to be hot,
but I think I want them even...
I want them like...
I want them super androgy girl, though.
I don't know.
I don't feel like there is any...
Endrogynous.
Or they would look good.
slightly androgynous is what I'm thinking
that they've got to be hot
but I think I'm going to do you last though
there's some there's some hands up over though
oh we've got hands up
so I thought you would have had
Hayden
Killian Murphy
that's the one I get all right now
that's fucking amazing
yeah
aged really well as well so I'd take that one
bit of fucking makeup on him as well
which one's that
that's the guy from up and I
Oppenheimer.
Oh, I'm just gassing up Oppenheimer so much, and they're like, is he?
Vin, Vin, knows one actor.
He's Oppenheimer.
Ben knows, like, one or two actors.
Kevin Bacon.
Hugh Lorry, Kevin, Megan.
Rowan, Upkinson.
Right.
I don't Rick May or play me.
He's dead, so we can't do that.
He is dead, yeah.
What?
Do you know the Mr. Bean, the Rowan Atkinson thing with, uh, what's the guy from
off menu, the other guy that isn't Ed Gamble?
Gordon, Gordon.
No, the fucking.
I'll have a twist.
Who's a comedian?
James Acaster.
Yeah, yeah.
James Acaster's girlfriend left him for Mr. Bean.
That's fucking A-so.
Don't blame.
Who won?
Fucking crazy, isn't it?
Who would?
Really.
If Madison ran off of Mr. Bean, I'd be like, fair, bro.
That's fucking funny.
He's also a Johnny English.
Exactly.
He's also a spy and the funniest man in the world.
He is.
He's also a shagger, apparently.
Who knew?
Anyway.
William Murphy
Tom Holland
I need to find out this lab
You're on board now though
This is what I want it
We've got Hugh Lorry
Hugh Lorry
He was specifically like
I want like night manager
Hugh Lorry
You ever seen the night manager
No
One of the best fucking TV shows
I've seen Lord of the Rings
I have seen Lord of the Rings
Yeah
Fuck
Is Hugh Lorry in Lord of the Rings
He is now
What's the fuck
You could be Dick Winters
Dave
Dick Winners
Oh what about Rupert
Grintz
Well there we go
Wait
Who's that?
Ron Weasley?
Ron Weasley?
Oh, do you know what?
Earlier on, I opened my mouth to say Ron Weasley
and then I felt bad, so I didn't say it.
You can...
Which is the film where he's got longer?
Is it the fourth one?
Oh, fucking...
Oh, Scott.
He's got to be Weasley.
I was going to give him someone a bit better than Weasley.
What about the twins?
Any of them?
Any of the genuine ones?
I feel like the twins have the height.
Because you're tall.
Yeah.
Weasley looks small.
No, what's the older?
The brother?
The fucking...
Oh, Bill.
Yeah, Bill.
Don Gleason.
Kevin Bacon.
Dom Gleason.
His dad is the other Gleason.
His dad is the guy that in 28 days later
kicks that thing and the blood from the crow goes in his eye.
Oh, yeah.
That is his dad.
No way.
Everyone goes, oh.
That's his dad.
All right.
Dom Gleeson, Hugh Lorry,
Killian Murphy.
Also 28 days later.
Tom Holland.
Yeah, not wrong.
Yeah.
We make a poster.
Oh, this is a clip, baby.
Who are you?
Is this in the movie?
I want to know who you would cast as me.
This is a beat in a movie.
The downbeat interview.
All right.
This is in a far.
It all goes wrong.
Who would be you?
I don't know.
But you've also got to cast her up.
As you've just gassed her up, she's integral to the story.
Maybe Craig could be Hugh Jackman.
Oh, shit.
That's pretty bad.
Yeah.
I'll take that.
Double Hugh.
Oh, Wolverine class.
I'll take that.
I'll take.
Song and dancing.
epic rage.
I'll take Hugh Jackman.
I'll be Hugh Jackman in this movie.
And then who's testing?
A hit girl from Kickass.
No, Kick-A-Is it? Kick-Ass.
Which one's Hit Girl?
That massive actor, what's she called?
Chloe Grace Moritz.
Yeah, Chloe Grace Moritz.
Who's her?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
You're telling me, though, is a movie with Christopher
Mintz Plats and Correlly, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Mince Platt.
Whatever.
Yeah, that's his name.
Mint Platt.
That's a name.
Mucloven.
Mcloven.
I am Mcloven.
They were both in the movie and they both had a triple barrel notes.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Anyway, sorry, what's this person?
Chloe Grace Moritz.
And you were very fast on that.
Because it's just like pink air and like get stuff done.
It would work as long as she can do a German accent.
That's true.
And be very, very meticulous.
Efficient.
I would love if more people were as efficient as she is.
Definitely.
And in my world, everyone would be as efficient as her.
I mean, I'd still be on the floor of Baltimore
if it wasn't for the efficiency.
In my world, there was a German that said that before.
Don't cut it.
Oh, no, it's in.
Unless I say cut, it's in.
Yeah.
Comments flying in now.
Fuck up.
You'll get another end up.
There's a fucking joke.
There's another decking on the way as that one.
Two deckings, one at the bottom of the garden.
It'll be nice.
Do you have a front garden?
Excuse me.
Excuse me.
No, I don't have a front garden.
I do have a small patch with some plants in it.
But, like, there's some weeds and stuff.
I've got back on.
You're going to come around?
Have you got a swimming pool?
I haven't got a swimming pool.
You live in America and you don't have a swimming pool.
Why have you moved?
Here's the thing.
It's very expensive.
It's very expensive for a swimming pool.
It's good salt.
And there's a big fucking tree in it.
Fuck.
Massive tree right in the middle.
Where you could have a swimming pool.
It's lovely if you don't want to fucking swimby ball.
You could sit under it and write a book.
If you're fucking link, it's lovely.
Yeah, lovely.
It is a proper D'Hu tree.
It's just in the back, smack bang in the middle of where I would have a fucking
bull.
They'd grow anything.
Acorns, made that up.
Aikon's in Nashville?
I just made up.
Oh wow.
Avalcado tree though.
Oh, that's fine.
But it's not made yet.
What's it called?
It's not grown yet.
It's currently just a sprout.
It's just a sprout.
It's going to be an avocado tree.
I didn't even know they got on trees.
Yeah.
What do you think?
Not aircons, avocados.
Do you think they were an animal?
No, fuck off.
No, it was like.
They laid.
For some reason, I just...
What would lay in avocard?
Oh, like a fucking ardvark or something.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You put the A in avocado.
I was just thinking of A's, yeah.
I'm fucking...
I've got such a baby braid.
It would be something else beginning with A&B.
All right, this is the...
cast for the movie then in iMac's 70
millimeter hand out
premiere in bradford yeah
premier in bradford premiering in bradford
premieringley and bingley

Stand up.
Killian Murphy as Ollie.
Tom Holland as George.
Mark the camera,
love.
Hugh Jackman is me.
Yes.
Chloe Grace Moretz as Tess.
Is that it?
We got it?
Who could be Colin?
Oh, God.
Oh, shit, you've got a new feeney.
How much you want to insult him because he's not here
or you want to do him justice because he's not here?
We give him shit all the time.
We gave him shit all the time, but he's really good at his job and he's a legend.
He's a fucking legend.
He's a fucking, saving the bad.
to be honest.
Give him a bit of shit as well.
Is he ginger as well?
No, he's blown.
You didn't say ginger these things?
No, you can't, Craig.
No, you can't.
Is it redhead?
Is that true?
You can say whatever the fuck you want, one.
Fuck it.
I can start going to pay for itself, lad.
I keep thinking of the original,
the original animation idea that was
it's to Dreamworks of Shrek.
Oh, God.
The thing that it was like,
like, I'll just keep it spying over that.
I haven't seen that, no.
Because when it is freaking out,
it just reminds me of when he starts talking.
fucking with his hands.
Maybe it should be Mark Myers.
Colin Finney text one minute ago.
How did it go?
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
FaceTime.
Thank God.
FaceTime Colin Fini.
Who could he be, man?
Starting a FaceTime call to Conant Fini.
What the fuck is that accent?
Southern.
That's fucking London, isn't it?
Starting a fucking FaceTime.
Oh, stream recording has stopped you to active phone call.
We have to do this.
Colin?
Right, Colin.
We're still on the podcast.
Okay, we just did a fan casting.
I mean, my tesler.
We're fan casting the biopic of static dress.
And we actually got to the point where we're like, who's playing Colin?
Now, what I want YouTube to do now they can see your face,
which is, you know, you haven't consented to.
I want them to say who should play you
but I want to know who you think should play you
I remember I'm just going to ever save my life
so I'm going to need some help
I've just decided it based on this angle of you
it's Adam Driver
Adam Sandler
Adam Sandler
All right anyway love you bye
I think Adam Driver's a shout
Adam Driver's a shout
Is that Kylo Red?
That's Kyleo Redd.
Brown eyes.
Wrong eye color.
We've got contacts for that.
This one was way better.
Adam Sandler.
He doesn't look like Adam Sandler?
Are you going to put up Waterboy?
No, he's not a fucking...
What have you got?
I've been way better if that has.
The barmaid from Shrek.
Well, we're not mixed.
And as, you guys are so hearty.
It'd be like the sat-dress biopic.
It's like, who's frame Roger Rabbit?
He fucking is.
There's animation in there.
That'd be sick.
I saw your fucking brain.
It's so sick.
They need to bring more of the drawing, like, the actual hand drawing stuff into films again.
I can't think of another one other than Space Jam and...
Space Jam is the only one that comes to my...
Blue Frame Robbit, that's it.
They made...
They made a new hand-drawn animation about a dog getting his balls chopped off.
Anyone else see this, I've just imagined it.
It's hand-drawn animation about a dog getting...
The Snit.
Yeah.
and it's meant, of course, millions and millions,
and it absolutely flopped,
hand-drawn by the original dudes who drew Looney Tunes.
And it's about, is this real?
Yeah, I swear I got it's real.
Post-injury delusion.
Oh, because I've had so many of them,
and it fucking sucks.
I'm just interested by post-injury delusion.
I love that, and all the videos are mixed media.
That's the reprise, like everything's just.
Yeah, that's a deluxe.
We casted our movie.
You're on an eight now.
at least.
Thank God.
What are you going to name
your movie?
Here we are.
He knows.
That's exactly what I'm going through
my brain.
Here we are.
Just here we are.
There we are there.
That's what we always say.
That's address here we are.
Do you know what?
A weird thing.
Just that address here we are.
It does sound like a Beatles.
What's the Beatles one?
Hard days night.
Heaviest band of all time.
And either, Bob.
They're the fucking best band ever.
Helllkeller.
I'm a Beal's apologist as well.
The original heaviest song of all time.
Hellerskel.
They got another fucking
what's the,
one that typo negative covered and it's like when you listen to the actual Beatles version
it's like this is kind of even heavier oh she's so heavy
absolute fucking banger well do you know about the law of helter skeleta of why it came to be
is it something to do with charles manson there's something to do with the who it's well it's
to do with because he got was it he got sent a tape and he was like the who the who would just
record the two the who are also an unbelievable man yeah but he got sent a tape and he got told
it was like the heaviest thing and he ever heard he was a really scary not heavy sorry
It was the scariest thing anyone had ever heard
And then he played it and was like
It wasn't actually as scary as I thought
He's like, I can do better than that
And then wrote hell of scale it
In like a day
That's fucking awesome
Yeah, it's great
Too much childhood bands
Going after it
Fucking hell bitch
No
I agree
I agree
No
I'm a beat was apologies
It pieces me off so much
When everyone's like
Oh, the Beatles suck
It's like
My wife calls me an 89 year old man
I complain about
Prices of things
not being like they were 15 years ago.
That's just northern.
I know.
That's just being northern.
And I miss it because Northern,
Northern is so close to Scottish.
Like, obviously I have an English accent,
lived in England my whole life.
Both my parents are Scottish, though.
And then I lived in Scotland.
So, and Northern and Scottish is so close
that when I hear you guys saying stuff like,
here we are then I'm like,
really fucking miss the UK like that.
I can't have those conversations on the daily.
If I try and do any kind of banter
in like getting a coffee,
horrific.
because people are used to them just going,
yeah, let me get a...
And that's it.
And I'm like, hello, there, how are you doing?
No, blah, blah, blah, blah.
No, fucking malice.
No, please, thank you.
No, nothing.
It's just can I get a...
Fuck off, can you get?
You can get.
You can get, man.
Why is that a thing?
Yeah, why is that a thing?
Americans in the room.
Capitalism.
It's horrible.
It's horrible.
Oh, it's the other way around where it's just like,
oh, you want to buy something from me?
Let me just tell you about me first.
And I'm like, right.
Like, the whole put the fries in the bag thing
coming from here.
I actually get it.
Put the flies in the back.
Yeah, it's a, it's a thing.
It's like a meme about just, you know, just do your job, basically.
Yeah.
Which is pretty brutal.
L.A. is the worst for it.
Oh, hey, sell them.
I just fucking hate being them.
I even enjoy most of America.
You might be the most northern person I've ever met.
L.A. is the worst for it.
I like being there, but like L.A. people who were there for networking and shit.
Just
horrific.
Awful.
But like the South is nice
and I can get
the odd conversation
or whatever,
the South of America.
Yeah.
Obviously she's the South in England.
Trash.
Not as friendly.
Yeah.
I would know.
You really know
as a Soutanah.
A lot of 95s in here today.
I like it.
Nelly wore somebody
I wore the guilt trips instead.
Bagging.
You get a stark dress ones.
Not wrong.
One tent?
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm real.
Even you called.
one tenths as well god what what da na na no that's america's what what's our one god say i've
even missed right ours sucks i was just probably nice what's the best one what yeah that's
what was it about one tens because he said he said one tens what's golden nine five's
when i was a kid they were called one tens because they cost 110 quid
It's also because of our front of out
The Scouser
Yeah
Who's your front of house
Adam Rogers
The best
Legend
He's absolutely legend
Fucking unreal
He is a Scalus
Yeah I think 110s
Came from Scouse land
Yeah
Yeah it
It's also
Spending 110 quid
On a pair of fucking shoes
Back then
That's like a million
Quid today
Yeah not real
I don't even spend that
On a pair of shoes
Especially for the north of England
Fucking having that
These were like 30 quid
Thoughts direct
I think you need a TV show
Down
I'm slowly getting to know
because I feel like maybe we know each other the least
out of this group.
Contrast.
I'm starting to just contrast, obviously.
And I'm just starting to think like
this is a fucking guy right here.
He's the fucking legend.
He's the best.
Yeah, there's some...
Why do you hide that behind a mask for so long?
I've known since I was eight years old.
I've been friends since we were eight years old.
And any time, like when
when Vin's like kind of life circumstances changed or whatever
and you came back home and then started like we started doing this
everyone who met you was like this guy is insane
he becomes immediately one of my best friends
yeah I've just done it as well I'm like now you're
there's something in you and I don't know what it is
there's class there's nobody lies man
absolutely no one in the world like Vin
let me just ask you some questions
this is going to be sick
I want to watch this spot.
What's your favourite drink?
Beer.
Just beer.
Just beer at the minute.
Augustine and Hallis.
I just love beer.
Tess giving a big German thumbs up there.
All right.
What about food?
What's your favourite food?
Oh shit.
That changes day to day.
Sometimes pork.

Sometimes sports.
What, Monday through Wednesday, pork?
No, it changes every day.
I just, I love cooking.
Can you move both of those mics?
Because I'm going to have a fucking nightmare.
The phase, then.
It's sometimes pork because the pork at lunch today was phenomenal.
I didn't have lunch.
Oh, it was really good.
Where did pork come from there?
We like to do like a Sunday,
sometimes we do like a Sunday roast.
We treat ourselves.
We go M&S because for seven quid.
Yeah, you are right.
Actually, sorry.
Apologies, you were doing the right thing.
Seven quid we got,
you can get like a piece of belly pork,
salt and pepper.
Chuck that in.
A couple hours in the oven.
I'm really enjoying this.
My signature mash is fucked up.
Is it?
Cool.
I do. It's, so you got your mash, then you do, you fry up some garlic and red onion on the side,
in loads of butter, pour all that in the mash. Then you get some cheese in there as well. So it's
cheesy, buttery, garlic, oniony mash. Wait, wait, wait, you say you got your mash. Have you
cooked potatoes then mashed? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm not talking about it. Yeah, okay. I also put,
I put a bit of cheese in my mash as well, yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's banging. I knew I liked you.
Yeah, all right. More questions.
Bit that, go on, tea or coffee.
How'd you have your tea?
Milk.
Just milk?
Yeah.
No sugars.
I don't take sugar.
I fucking hate when people have sugar.
I can't.
You're just drinking sugar.
You're drinking sugary water.
Have a tea.
Yorkshire gold.
My parents do a bag.
Keep going.
This is unreal.
Yeah, this is unreal.
Yeah, keep going.
I knew, because I knew it was in it.
This is great.
Tell me about your parents, Yorkshire gold.
So they do loose leaf tea
So they do loose leaf tea
So mine actually
Yeah yeah because it's fucking banging
So they do two thirds
Yorkshire gold
One third Darjeeling
And then they let it brute
They put a timer on for four minutes
And then they have like a proper teapot
Yeah
And they pour it out
And you can't have the bottom bit
Because it's got tea leaves in there
Yeah
So do you do that at home
Or do you just do that when you go at them
Just do that one
It's like a treat
when I go to see my parents then.
We just do like tea bags at home.
Well, it's Steffo Yorkshire goal.
Yeah, Alan and Becky.
Legends.
All right.
What's your favourite film?
Lord of the Rings.
Specifically the entire trilogy or what?
We got a favourite.
It's hard to pick.
You see, it's difficult because fellowship.
You keep laughing.
I know.
You, because you like start a sentence.
No, you start a sentence.
It's a really, like, it's a really good, interesting answer,
but you laugh because.
I don't know why.
Because they've heard these answers
a million times.
I know.
I heard him say it.
He said a million times.
Lord of Rings.
I love fellowship because you're in the Shire,
but it's also hard to watch Fellowship
because you fall asleep before you get out of the Shire
because he's so calm.
It is.
That one's a bit more of a drag.
Two Towers is ace,
but I feel like that's the hipster answer
to say and what's your favorite Lord of the Rings film?
And obviously it's Return of the King.
You got the Battle of Pellanor Fields,
which is fucking unreal.
You got Osgians.
Gilearth, you got Gandalf,
fucking extended edition,
you got Gandalf against
Witch King.
Felby's, oh my God.
All right.
What's your favorite TV show?
Oh, Peep Show is ace.
Peep Show's up there.
Peep Show is up there.
I do miss.
Mr. Bean.
I missed Peep Show for the longest time
because they don't have it in the States.
Really?
And then it's on YouTube now.
You've shown American people,
peep show.
I know.
I haven't, so,
I haven't made Madison watch it yet
because I'm terrified if she doesn't like it
because it's just so integral to my personality.
If she doesn't like it, something will die between us.
So my wife is American and she loves it.
She fucking loves it.
Maybe I'll do it, yeah.
Misha Mansoor from Periphery loves it.
And Johnny from Health,
they're the only two Americans that I know that love Peep Show.
Acomba.
Big fan.
Do you want to do a Koebab art thing?
Do you still do that?
100%.
You'd do one of that.
I'd be nice.
I would love to do it.
that.
I thought he said drum.
I was like,
why the fuck,
don't you just drum?
Because he's way better
to me.
Time is unbelievable.
Unbelievable.
He's my favorite.
Anyway,
I've talked about drums,
talk about drums.
Get five minutes of drum talk.
We need some
otherwise Adam Rogers
We did the redhead appropriation.
Oh, bollets.
Five minutes.
Five minutes of drums.
Yeah.
Knows a lot about drums.
So drums.
So drums.
Here we are.
I don't play drums anymore.
Symbol.
Crazy beef.
I can talk about symbols.
He's like reverse Aaron Gillespie.
He's got like fucking, they look like teacups.
They're so small.
They're not small.
They're not small.
They're not small.
They're like 19s.
It doesn't start with the two.
It's small.
It's just because the breakup.
Is it because of the chokes?
No.
Why it's so high?
No, why they're so small.
Because you chokes so much in the set.
And when I saw you choking,
the small symbols
fucking boring
isn't it
when I see you
choking the small symbols
I said that's pretty
fucking easy with small symbols
yeah I like it
on the left-hand side
but then right on side
I want some fucking
big massive thing
but I broke it
you know
you've got two 19s
yeah it's just the same crash
I thought it was
problem
they looked fucked today
by the way
yeah
absolutely
they were built by
fucking idiots
they looked
they built by legend
they're built by legend
Salt by fucking dickheads.
Warped fucking disgusting.
Come on.
I think you'll warp any symbol if you've
It's too hard.
Join us.
It's the oldest company,
one of the oldest companies in America.
Don't put me on the spot.
I can't get a couple of crashes.
Retreat you right.
They all sound fucking shit.
Let's be real.
All symbols he's on about.
Yeah, they're the fucking most horrible things ever.
They're just deaf.
I fucking ate some.
Get them gone.
All this fucking technology in the world
and they can't make a quiet symbol.
What do you do when you're mixing drums,
spend half your time getting the fucking symbols out?
This is, yeah, this is what I want more of.
I could run this right back and just direct stuff at you.
He's very Carl Pilkington.
It's just watching Vindu.
Anything is a minute, like, sick.
Not in like a horrible way.
What don't you like?
It's just all.
Other than symbols.
Well, a lot of things.
I don't like Aircon
We have an argument
We just have one having tea
Did you go and catering
We got like separate catering
Oh
No
We're in the shit bunch of me
You're in the fucking rice
Well it's a fucking Arctic blizzard in there
It's about minus seven degrees
And Sam was like
Oh this is fucking banging in it
And it's fucking not
It is banging
When we're on the Yoda coach
It's like
Me Sam and George
It's like a bandwagon, but it's better
It's way better
It is fucking, you got a AC battle
Yeah
It's just because Vin's a little old man
And you just don't like it
He's got his little long sleeve on
Yeah
Vince, sorry about your long sleeve when you sleep
I need a long sleep
This is a good one
I always need to have a long sleep
When sleep
Because you know
You don't mean you sleep on your side
Yeah
And you put one leg out like that
And then the other
Like once
So you kind of like that
I don't think everyone does, but yeah.
Well, I know the concept of it.
It's fucking shut.
But you need, you put them one arm under your pillow.
Yeah.
I do that quite a lot, yeah.
And then you've got exposed arm,
but then you're breathing on your arm.
Oh, it's autism.
You can't.
This is, this is.
I don't know what it is.
You can't breathe on your own arm when you're sleeping.
That'll piss you off.
Yeah, because it's like,
you're fucking amazing.
I can't deal with it.
hearing other people breathe either.
I can't know with that.
What about chewing?
Chewing, I fucking want to punch a-
Punch of.
Being pissed off by your own breath
on your own bare arm is like
anti-human.
There's no evolution
that has made that happen.
Absolutely. Talking over a film, you hate that.
Talking over a film.
Especially the Lord of the Rings.
Yeah. Especially the Lord of the Rings.
Especially the Lord of the Rings.
Particularly when you try to show someone a film.
It's like, please, I really enjoy this.
enjoy it with me.
Well, no, that's punishable by death.
Checking the phone is crazy.
Also showing someone a song
and then them just talking through it,
that's horrible.
When did you lose your virginity?
17.
17.
Yeah.
Any good?
No.
I think we'll leave it there.
Jesus Christ.
Thanks, guys.
Thank you, love.
