My take on it is it's hard for me to care a lot when I know the players don't care a lot so it would be a better
sales job if they actually didn't jersey swap on the field after I mean I get mutual respect but I
at least want to think that you like hate the other team for a little bit like the great part
of like the rivalries of the 90s the Cowboys 49ers I mean there was no law love lost there
that part of it was cool like it's always been a game it's always been a lie
although you know i'll bet randy white did hate but there used to be some emotion there
and i think that's what we're losing with college football too like texas and texas
and that that that adds to the game
I think it's just the natural evolution
of
society because we've all
interviewed Roger
Charlie Waters and Randy White through the years
and to a man
those guys will say yeah we hated the Redskins
and that hatred
carried over through their careers
even to this day they have disdain
for those teams where the modern society is about making bank getting ass and driving a Range Rover
and when the the game clock ends your job is over yeah and then you can go back into just being
a person and if you got a buddy on another team, they don't care anymore.
I mean, all that stuff back in the day, you know, at the time, maybe they really believed
that stuff, but look, it's life and all that, all that, that hatred for other teams and
carrying that with you is all pomp and circumstance anyway.
I get it.
And I don't, I don't, I'm not treating them like gladiators, like fight to the death.
Right.
But I'll go back to what I said earlier.
How do you expect me to care when you don't care?
Then don't care.
And I don't.
Me either.
Because ultimately it's a business that's run by agents now.
But, I mean, that's just why my interest in this is feigning.
And here's another thing.
So Micah, on his podcast, he begins talking about his injury,
and then he immediately says, you'll hear it here,
I've got a big guest for you today.
And it's Darius Slay from the Eagles.
And that just, it's very strange.
As a Cowboy fan, you don't want that.
No, and they're...
During the season.
During the season.
And then listen to this question.
But, you know, as I said, we're going to have some surprise guests.
Man, let's get right into it, though.
Let's get to the tea, man.
What's been going on in Eagles country?
I know y'all been battling injuries the same as us, bro.
It's like, it's just like when you feel like you got a rhythm going,
just like tragedy always strike.
Like, you know, what's been the environment
in locker room how do you been feeling it's going and how can y'all change what's going on right now
oh man he's just interviewing a philadelphia eagle hey man we're both real this is really
weird we're both two and two but how are you gonna get through it right it's one thing
dude it's the effing eagles man no Right, no. Are you serious? Share some of your secrets with us.
Dude, so I've got, again, I'm not the biggest Cowboy fan,
and some of this is why,
but I could not believe he is interviewing a division rival
about how they can fix their season.
In the season.
During the season.
During the season.
There's no element of this that you think is kind of unique and cool?
Oh, it's unique.
It's very unique, and it's definitely the modern athlete,
and this will be the norm one day,
but my old man brain is so thrown off by this.
And Jake says this all the time.
This city sucks for sports.
Well, this is partially why.
Our athletes don't care.
Why should we care? You're sitting there talking to an eagle. I don't care. Why should we care?
You're sitting there talking to an eagle.
I don't care when you play them next.
I hate it.
I really do.
Yeah, there's something wrong with it.
I mean, I know the NBA has shed that a while ago
with all the player movement,
and we've all come to realize
they don't really hate each other,
but I don't feel like the NBA is built like the NFL,
like where you do hate your rival.
Yeah, because it's predicated on violence,
and to some degree you've got to use that hatred.
I mean, I always hated Tim Duncan and his whining.
Yeah.
Tim Duncan and his whining.
Yeah.
You know,
didn't like when I was rooting for the Cavs in the finals.
Certainly didn't like Steph
and his stupid little daughter up there
on the podium after the game.
So that's fun.
I mean,
I kind of like the fact
that some guys
didn't like LeBron.
For real, they didn't. LeBron, and for real they didn't.
LeBron didn't like Durant because a lot of people were saying,
is this the new best player in the NBA?
They actually didn't like each other.
So I liked that.
And that made it better watching those games,
and it made it better to win the game.
And it made it better to kind of lose the game too because you're more
pissed. Sports are better with emotion.
But yeah.
I mean, why not just have
Jalen Hurts on?
Don't you
want to think that Micah's trying to break
Jalen Hurts' leg?
Even though he's not?
I don't know. There's something
to this. No, I mean, I was trying to.
So you're a 30-year-old old man.
Oh, definitely, in more ways than one.
But I was trying to say, like, they both play defense.
They won't be on the same field at the same time, the whole ED thing.
Yeah.
But also, if you say that if they don't care, then why should I?
Maybe you should start to care like they
care because honestly carrying all that stuff around and being so consumed by this and the
narratives it it kind of for me personally i would be miserable if i was that guy that has to throw a
chair through a tv because I'm so emotionally involved
in a freaking football team.
That's why we care.
That's the whole point of sports
is your escape.
We know this isn't the most important thing ever.
Right.
But we like to all play act that it is
because...
It's an escape.
It escapes from the actual real important stuff.
You know?
If you all cared about
the real important stuff,
nobody would spend $1,000
to take your family
to a football game.
You would give that to,
you know,
a needy family.
But...
Correct?
I guess, yeah.
I mean, if you were to say,
what should we really do with life?
Yeah.
But who wants to do that?
F that needy family, bro.
Let's get some nachos.
Yeah, we got nachos.
We got the boomstick thing.
We got...
You know, because then it sticks with you.
Like, if you gave that money to that needy family,
are you going to get the feeling I had this morning
when watching P.J. Washington again?
Like, man, all that memory has come flooding back.
It was great.
Yeah.
Like, I can't wait.
I can't wait to see the Mavs play again.
It's going to be awesome.
I don't know if it's just because as we get older
and you actually have a history behind you
and you can look a history behind you and
you can look back to certain eras of your life and realize that that was an entirely different
perspective or version of yourself i feel i think i feel better now that i don't wake up on a monday
after a cowboy's loss and it has any impact on my attitude or my outlook on the week.
But at the time, yeah, back in the 90s, I was pretty worked up over it.
And I would get pretty upset and it would screw with my week.
But maybe that was okay for me back then.
But I can't imagine how I would be as a human being if it still meant that much to me.
It clearly doesn't mean that much to them either.
They're there to do a job. I'm a Dan.
I like the escape. I like Sundays
watching football and
what have you.
When you brought up PJ,
the play that we remember is him
making the Clippers mad.
That's cool. That's
fun. That's a part of the game.
I kind of think there is a little bit of hate.
I think Luka thinks Devin Booker is a clown.
And if now I found out that Luka was having Devin Booker on his podcast
and hanging out, I would hate that.
That would suck.
Yes.
Because I hate Devin Booker, man.
Me too.
Yeah.
Especially basketball where you have these individual matchups Yes. Because I hate Devin Booker, man. Me too. Yeah. I mean, these, yeah.
Especially basketball where you have these individual matchups where you want to hate Anthony Edwards for a little bit.
You want to hate the Thunder.
Screw SGA.
That's a part of it.
But when you have your division rival on your podcast during the season
asking him how they're going to fix their season, that's horrible.
Do you think they should trade him or cut him, Micah?
Like, how should we deal with this?
Like, do you actually think, should this be a thing
where the coaching staff steps in and says,
is this a good idea?
Who's he going to listen to, man?
Who's he going to listen to, man?
Like,
LT, DeMarcus Ware,
does somebody that he respects has to talk to him
and say you at least have to treat it?
Like, at least the appearances
of the whole thing.
You know, let's at least...
It's kind of like Romo in the postgame
after getting drilled by Philly saying,
I've had a good life
and this is not the worst thing
that's ever happened. Like, no! this is not the worst thing that's ever happened.
Like, no!
Because it's the worst thing that's ever happened to a ton of Cowboy fans
who are watching.
So let's play the game.
We're all in a play here.
There's no way for doing what you do, you should be making $30 million a year.
But you are for throwing a ball.
So let's keep playing this whole everybody's got to do their part.
So let's do your part and act like you care as much as the guy
who spent $1,000 to take his family to that game
instead of donating it to cancer research.
And we knew it wasn't real, but the T.O., that's my quarterback,
I thought it was kind of cool.
There's no way he meant it.
He doesn't care.
He hated Romo.
But at least in that moment, like, yeah,
buddy, I'm with you.
So, let's cut him.
