I have been home for nearly 12 hours,
and I have already been to Game Day men's health.
Oh, yeah?
Been to the grapevine location.
Need to get my T-shot.
I'm on weekly T-shots.
That's something you could do if you're going to get your levels checked,
your testosterone levels check.
maybe you're feeling a little bit off as you age.
There's no reason to just accept that.
You want to be the best you.
You want to be able to get out there and get punched in the balls by your kid and keep on ticking.
Well, it starts at gameday.dumzone.com.
You probably heard a lot of talk about peptides, what they can do for you.
Well, Game Day can facilitate that for you.
It's not just about losing weight.
Maybe it's recovering from injury.
Maybe you'd like to sleep better.
Maybe you'd like your skin to look better.
All these things that can make you feel better about yourself,
make your body feel a little bit better.
That can be accomplishing Game Day Men's Health, 12 area locations.
Stop in, get those levels checked,
and inquire about the peptides.
It is gameday.dumzone.com.
Feel pretty good about that, don't you?
We will make a DJ out of you yet.
More clips about dead dogs.
Hello, friends.
Welcome to our broadcast.
where today we are not in that Game Day Mencel studio.
We do love it, though.
Today we broadcast live to tape from high atop my garage.
It's the dumb zone.
I'm Dan McDowell.
I'm Jake Kim.
I'm Blake Jones.
Who do you see K?
Henry is here as well.
Henri, intern Henri.
And, yeah, Jake is back on the Continental 48.
Did you get any duty-free liquor?
Or is that just if you go to Jamaica or something?
Yeah.
Bahamas.
I went to the Bahamas.
Like we bought a couple of bottles.
Like, how much did I save?
You could, uh...
$4?
And it was just so clunky to carry this liquor back.
Big and international travel, for sure.
I mean, that's what you're saying.
But obviously, if you go overseas, like, to Asia,
the airport is like a...
It's like a mole.
You know, it's all for...
Duty free was the big thing.
Yeah.
It's like, whoa, I don't have to pay duty?
That'd be great.
I'd been feeling...
But I never really put pen to paper on, like, what did I save for all the beating of carrying these bottles?
Right.
I've been feeling cumbered by duty.
And now you're unencumbered.
A lot going on in today's program.
The feature will be Brandon Aubrey.
We'll join us two hours from now, less than two hours.
Our World Cup correspondent.
That's right.
He's stoked.
He's our soccer guy.
Could he...
I mean, I guess this is the question.
could he make a phone call and end up getting tickets to the final if he wanted too bad enough?
Well, save that question for Brandon Aubrey.
And yeah, send in your questions for Brandon Aubrey.
We haven't had him on since the GSE.
So I think since then he's had a kid and stuff.
So we'll talk to him about that.
Like, what's it like to have a kid?
Well, you know, he had another one before that.
So, as you know, it's...
When you had that second one, though, changed the game, doesn't it, Blake?
Like, Blake used to kind of be skipping in here, just every day, full of energy.
Do you know it's so funny?
Now he has two kids.
Is I remember...
Now it's man to man.
I remember...
But I remember...
I remember going through this and you looking at me and being like, God, you seem...
It seems bad.
You seem like you're...
Now, I was obviously struggling personally, but it wasn't all that I was struggling.
personally. You can look back now and see
it's hard.
Was it chicken or the egg there? What's
Sure, but yeah, that's what I'm
saying is that you can be living clean
and that second one can still
Although the boy is testing you, right? Like
can I get you to go back to the egg?
Yeah.
No, you know, that's crazy dude is like
You thought it was bad before. Here, I'm going to punch
your balls. Yeah, and I
guess like I guess I have to figure
I wouldn't have, I wouldn't be taking long
trips like that with my family if I were
still, you know, boozing hard because there's just no way I would be able to pull it off.
They wouldn't want to be around me.
But I'll be damned, dude.
I don't know.
I just don't think about it anymore.
I know we don't talk about it much, but there's a couple final bosses for the booze thing.
One is probably getting by your close friend who's like, it's okay for you to have one, that guy.
I was just asking.
The other thing is like being in a perfect, like tropical environment with low, supposed to be low, low strut.
right everyone's drinking and i never thought about it there okay i just warn you just like i don't want
to do with what we're doing here is taking this victory yeah but i'm telling you this for a reason and
that is that you know every day it's two years ago one day the time two years ago uh i went on a guy's trip
this trip i'm about to go on here uh and it was when i was going to rehab like that summer after
camp before cleveland was the worst time
When were you quit skiing?
Well, that was a couple months before that.
So you knew, like, I know rehab's on the horizon.
She's been bringing it up every other day.
I'm stretching it out as long as I can.
You made it through Cleveland, and then it was like, all right.
I don't remember how seriously the R word was being mentioned,
but there were other words being mentioned.
D.
So at that time, that trip, which I sort of have been the spearhead of for, like, 20 years.
And it involved like Corby and the Soroyes, and it's been a shifting group of people.
This is Hangout?
Well, we used to go to a festival.
Yeah, Hangout Festival.
And then it's, you know, we'd go to Montana.
But the point is, I didn't go last year because I didn't feel like this was something I was up for at that time.
So I'm going today.
Got to know your say.
Don't just go steal second if you're, yeah.
Sure.
Watch a pitch.
Yeah.
And I told the boys.
that last year. I was like, yeah, I don't, I don't think I'm ready for any of these sorts of things.
Did they all ridicule you? No. No, they understand. It's just Blake. It's just Blake.
But no, it's exciting. It's exciting to be able to go today because, I mean, they're all, I think, already there. I'm fired up.
You need friends like Blake to keep you grounded.
Yeah.
You need friends like Blake. Just to make sure that you know what good friends are, the other guys that you know.
Yeah, right.
Yeah.
If everybody was perfect in the world.
You've got to have your setting the window.
So why is cool with you leaving?
No.
No, actually, if by cool with you mean every single sentence starts with, I didn't know you could roll your eyes that hard and breathe that deep in disgust.
Well, you won't be looking at that in 24 hours.
Yeah. It's tricky.
And it's whatever.
We don't need to, it's not personal time.
But we, dude, we.
I love hearing about it, though.
No, but she's banking herself another trip where she thinks she's,
she was doing it before I left.
But the point is we got, the tricky thing is I am leaving after the show today.
And I got home to, we got to our house last night at 6.30 p.m.
What about buffer days?
Don't you understand this?
Well, this is his buffer.
He's getting away.
Yeah, his buffer is the show.
Right.
I get to have some fun.
But I like to get back from a vacation and then just have a whole day without a show and laundry.
So the way that this worked was just a matter of circumstance, right?
Like, this trying to get 12 guys to go on a trip together, book a house.
Like, there's one, maybe two weekends a year where you can actually make that work.
And it just happens to back up with, we always take.
sometime around the fourth.
So there's just all, like if your family and your boys trip are just going to be in July
every year, you're going to run into some in and out.
Now, I've never had home one day leave the next, I don't think, but yesterday was a
trying day of travel, and it was the closest I've ever come to thinking I was going to
end up on plain internet by far.
Now, you might have thought that would have happened during the drink.
times because if there was another boss, the only reason I didn't mention this one earlier is because
I've slayed it many times now. It is that plane because you guys have seen it. There's nothing
that the alcoholic, and I'll speak for me on this one, loves more than the plane and the airport
booze. It's magical. So that wasn't involved, but we were flying back from Hawaii. We had a
five hour and 45 minute trip from kawai to Seattle a two and a half hour layover and then a four
hour trip from Seattle to Dallas now the issues were the trip home from Seattle to Dallas you
guys were experiencing weather so our flight that was supposed to land at 3.30 when we got about
15 minutes from dfW went to Oklahoma City
for refueling.
And we set there
because they said
there were so many planes
trying to land at DFW
that we were going to be in the air too long
and now we're going to Oklahoma City.
Was this because of weather?
I'm sorry, did you say that?
My bet.
That's okay, though.
So now, you know,
you've been on the plane
in some form or fashion
or in the airport for like 13 hours
between the first flight,
the layover,
in the second flight.
And now they come on the thing
and wake everyone up and they're like,
actually we're not about to be home.
We're going to Oklahoma City, folks.
So you see it within, yeah.
You know I'm almost home.
You could feel, I guess you don't really feel the plane turn,
but you felt a couple circles over the EFTA.
But you're looking at your watch the whole time.
Yeah, you know.
Good, finally, this countdown.
I did feel for my dude next to me.
And then you live 15 minutes away,
so you're like, all right, it'll take us this long to get the bags.
Oh, yeah.
And I had plans.
be home at a hair appointment yeah uh but no it's funny too because i wasn't drinking i was
uh not even sleeping i was trying to i did everything i could for today's show but the guy next
to me he went three double screwdrivers and he was a power player he was not really affected
like i could feel his energy he was just to take the edge off but he woke up after they
i've had that happen to me before too and he woke up he was like what the fuck he's like where are we
I was like, dude, we're in Oklahoma.
You're going to be three hours late, four hours late getting home.
So that was one issue.
Can't they just go over to Love Field?
No, that's not an option.
That's a dumb question?
I guess like carrier agreements, right?
And they have some sort of, like, you know, I saw that they're opening Interport and McKinney.
Is it McKinney?
Yeah, yeah.
Maybe four, maybe six gates.
It's not like you can just go over there either, right?
Oh.
I think it has to be in their name.
whatever okay so the trip to ho uh leaving from hawaii it's a 10 p.m. flight um and so it's night time it's
you get on the plane and when everybody puts their bags up they turn off the lights and this is like
an overnight we're going to sleep flight uh so the way the seating arrangements were um
my daughter and and myself were in the uh the extra leg room row where you can't put your
backpack in front of you, right? I kind of forgot about that. So once they had us all seated,
my daughter and myself and actually the guy next to us, we all three had our backpacks
in front of us. And the flight attendant came by and said, excuse me, you're going to need you
to put these up here. And then the first guy started picking up his bag and the flight attendant was like,
actually, I'll just do it. And so the flight attendant picked up first the guy's bag,
then my bag and then Nora's bag and put them in the extra they had they leave like an extra thing
for just backpacks for those people so those are up there it's stowed away we take off where maybe
two hours into the flight everyone is asleep it's sleep time on the plane and my daughter is like
I really need my stuffed animal that she sleeps with because she's realizing it's like bedtime
now and I'm like
fuck I forgot because I had gotten
my computer down when they
asked me to put my bag up I was like
I don't want to have to get back up there I got my headphones
I got my backpack you got my backpack you got my
you got my backpack yes so I had everything
so then I was like damn I'm like babe can we
daddy hug you
stuff then she's like I need I need it
I was like all right so
I kind of stepped over the guy
he was asleep and we
had like grunts
back and forth to indicate we were cool
No small talk, but he kind of rustled a little bit, but he was fine.
I get up there.
I open up the container for the bags, the compartment, and they're packed in there pretty tight.
And I start with the Hello Kitty backpack, and it's dark, but I can see the red and white Hello Kitty print.
So I just grab that backpack and I pull it.
and when I pulled it
I didn't see anything
but like that
I hear somebody go
what the fuck
fuck
and I turn around
and there's a guy
in the other row
and he's like
fuck
and he's like
putting his hand on his face
and he picks up a bottle of water
and I guess either
me
I know not me
but either my wife
or maybe that guy
had a bottle of water
on like the outside of his bag.
Maybe my daughter had one on the side of her bag
that my wife put in in the little water pocket.
I don't know where this came from.
It was a full, warm water bottle.
And it hit the guy in the head?
Drilled him.
I guess.
Yeah.
Okay, but it's not wet.
No, it was closed.
It was closed.
He was asleep.
Well, actually, he wasn't asleep.
He wasn't asleep.
That's important because he was playing Texas hold him
the whole time on his little thing in front of him.
Well, you hit him on the river.
Yeah.
And I, so it hit him in the face, I guess.
He was wearing glasses.
Ooh.
I didn't see it hit him.
I only heard him like screaming like a bitch back there.
What the fuck?
Fuck.
And I, so now, you know, I'm standing up.
He's behind me.
So I turn around and I'm like, uh, uh, you know, I'm like, what happened?
He's like, fucking water bottle.
And I was like, oh, okay.
I was like, sorry.
He picks up the water bottle.
At this point, his wife, who's sitting next to him, was awake too, and she's like, what happened?
He's like, fucking water bottle.
She's like, oh, it was an accident.
She actually said that.
At this point, he picks up the water bottle, and he extends it out to the aisle, and he drops it.
Yeah.
Mike drop.
And I was like, thanks, dude.
And I picked it up, and his wife's like, hey, what's how are you okay?
He's like, this fucking idiot.
This fucking idiot ripped this water down.
I was like, at this point, this is when we flashed.
And I thought about the show, and I thought about, like, my kids, and you're doing the math.
Now, you're over the ocean or something, right?
Yeah.
Not like they can divert and land real quickly.
Let's take a pause and break the fourth wall.
You may say if you get in a fight on a plane that that's bad for your kids just full stop.
But what if it propels the show to a level that they experience?
greater economic prosperity because when that got because you got to remember something dude
when he picked that bottle up and dropped it i was standing up and i'm standing up like over this
dude and he's like and i was like and that's when he's like he dropped the bottle and i'm still
standing up i'm not going to sit down when he's doing that and he's like you fucking idiot
dropped it fucking idiot as if you're not there he's and i was like oh yeah i was like no man
And I was like, it just fell.
And at that moment, like, I thought, you know.
And so what I did.
And your daughter's kind of watching you.
Yeah.
And you know, my, I don't know if you've ever.
How does this play out?
You know, she's a little scientist kind of watching.
She is.
And because you guys don't really get to experience hearing how my daughter talks, like,
I'll tell you, this is not abnormal.
But when I sat down and I started thinking through it,
and Kristen was like, what happened?
Because she was asleep.
And I was like, I guess there was a water bottle up there that hit this dude
the face and he was over there acting like he had been shot and um my daughter like talks really
fast she's autistic if you don't know and she was like dad are you very confused by everything
that is happening around you right now i was like yes no yeah wow so she's giving you a little
therapy yeah i was like i'm super confused calming you down yeah and then uh what i did was i
that's awesome.
Like Erling Holland on the flight,
I sat there and raw dog the next three hours
and just stared at the dude.
And every time he got up,
I just followed him to the bathroom of my eyes.
And every time he got up and walked back,
I followed him and set him down.
Now, that can't be healthy.
And I just sat there.
And I put on, I did at one point put on calming music.
And I just stared at him and just breathed.
And he would occasionally look over
and I would just stare.
I just kept my eyes locked to him.
And occasionally his kid, and there's a thing, too, I knew once I put it together that these people were from the Pacific Northwest.
Like, his son looked like, you know, his son was 12.
My son could have beat the shit out of him.
You know what I mean?
He had a very, ew, my face, like, reaction to it.
So.
You should have long-gamed it.
You should have, like, you befriend him, and then, you know, you just, you get in his graces and then, like, seven years from now.
you steal his wife.
No, buddy, I saw the wife.
The wife looked like how you thought.
You know, and she was, like, fine enough in trying to chill him out.
But the wife...
I'm not saying you do it because it's going to benefit you in any way,
but revenge on this guy.
That's a good point.
Yeah.
But, no, I could tell...
Or you just quickly poison his food.
I don't know.
Something...
I could tell that he's not the type of guy I wanted to be friends with.
But, no, so that...
I don't know how you stopped yourself.
Well, you're not going to, like, swing on the guy, but I did consider...
Didn't having the kid and the peripheral vision weigh in on that, how you stop yourself?
Yeah, no, of course, Blake.
Like, you're not good.
Blake, he's just playing.
He wouldn't have actually...
When I drive...
I just got done yelling at an old guy in a parking lot.
I'm going the other way.
I know, but the plane is just...
The plane is risky, but, you know, he drops the water bottle, whatever you're even.
He calls you a fucking idiot.
That's...
Okay, we're not...
This is not a normal situation anymore.
I felt like just continuing the verbal escalation, you know, if anything, of just being like, dude.
You're just getting your pawns out there for, yeah, sure.
Call them a pussy.
Do something.
So that was, that was, that was, that was an interesting plane, right?
Springing this on you, Clayton, but I just put one image in there.
You guys know, and I'll finish with this, that I love watching other people watch movies on planes.
Yes.
because I think a lot of times you're like,
I don't want to commit to watching a movie.
I'm going to get some stuff done.
I see this happen to people all the time.
I'll do some emails.
I'm going to do some spreadsheets,
but you can't because you're in 12C,
but in 10A, Thor Ragnarok just started.
And every time you look up,
it's the only thing in your field of vision.
And so even if you don't know what's actually happening,
a guy, a few spots in front of me,
thought, here's the time to take the spin on.
this new film. What do you guys see here?
I see a monkey. And who?
Is that Michael Jackson?
Yeah. It's Bubbles and young Michael Jackson.
So I don't... Is there a movie? What is that?
The Michael Jackson movie? Yeah.
You know, it's not like I got caught up on...
I thought the new Michael Jackson movie is all about music and not his weirdness.
It is... I don't know. Yeah, they're not going to show McCulley Culk and...
A Starfish? Doing Deshawn Watson.
Yeah.
But...
What was the other one?
Blune night.
I still felt like it was an interesting choice.
You know, I mean, there's people like protesting it.
I don't give a shit, but, and it was funny, too,
because the guy was a very old Asian man,
and he bailed like 40 minutes in.
It was just like, ah.
So I shouldn't go see it?
That's been on my list.
I've heard good things about it.
I just want to see it, you know, Michael Jackson was a big deal when I was young.
The reason that I would be against,
seeing it is not because of any moral reason,
it's because it's an incomplete picture, right?
Like if they're working with the guardrails of the estate.
Right, I mean, that's...
All you're ever going to get?
A lot of the age we live in as well is you're going to get a watered down...
You know, if Belichick says I'll produce a Belichick documentary,
it's going to look real good for Belichick.
That's why you only need documentaries by people who are so self-unaware,
or they don't give a shit like Jordan.
They're like, man, you look bad here.
And he's like, yeah, I know.
I love it.
Yeah.
What happened at the end?
I won.
Like I kicked everyone's ass.
Do you remember that part, too?
Yeah.
A lot of sports to get into today.
We will lead into all of that with our new sponsor, Plum Quick.
So they sent some copy points.
We'll get to that in a second.
But we've been getting a lot of emails.
So emails are rolling in.
Let me just read at least the first one that we had gotten
when we first got Plum Quick as a sponsor.
They are responding to the folks.
We got an email at 1143 a.m. one day,
who says, I vaguely recall y'all mentioning a new sponsor that does plumbing.
All your previous racks have been great,
so I wanted to use the plumbing one as well from Chris.
Apparently, this must be Blake.
who emailed him back within a half hour.
Here's the phone number for Plumquick, 469, 331, 369.
And apparently it's like the Dumb Zone hot phone or bat phone.
It's like whatever.
They know it's coming from the Dumb Zone listener.
What is this?
1236.
So this is like a half hour after, excuse me, 45 minutes after his original email to our show.
He says, I called.
They're on the way right now to close.
a drain.
Thanks for the quick response from Chris.
Plum Quick.
That's pretty quick.
That's very, very quick.
They were there, like, within an hour of him emailing us, Plum Quick was at his house.
They also wanted us to let you know that they install whole home filtration and water
softening systems.
Blake.
Yeah.
Isn't that your bit?
I'd love it.
I feel like the wives would love that.
Yeah.
So, newest sponsor already getting rave review.
Don't wait until water is coming through the ceiling to figure out who your plumber is.
So save this number now.
469-331-3669, where you can go to plumquick company.com.
And also you can sign up for that annual maintenance bit.
What do they call it?
Oh, the Plumquick Home Membership, which gives a lot of cool things.
Call that number, and you'll find out exactly what.
D-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
Fun for wonderful world of sports, radio sports, scoreboard.
Oh, yeah, I like that.
Okay, so there's a lot on my sports list.
I started watching the new show quarterback on Netflix.
There is, of course, the annual tradition of right before training camp.
It's like between July 4th and training camp, it's like, what's going on?
There's not a lot of sports that we're really that into.
So we will start with our, hey, this is ESPN's top 10 NFL quarterback's list.
We got that.
We want to get into it.
But I'm just saying that's an annual.
It is, but the reason that I think it works now is because they do it in a cool way where they at least ask the GMs and the execs and stuff.
Like that's a better take than just
Here's Merrill Hodge
Yeah
Yeah yeah
It's a cool way they do
I mean maybe they always did that
I just don't remember that pre like Mike Sando
So this was all GM list
I think so
Okay because sometimes it's just our collection of writers
Sometimes it's uh
It's execs right so whatever
Yeah
Like a bomb temp's type thing
Formerly a Bon Teps thing
Anyway
I mean if you want to start getting into that
Because there is some Rangers news
I just mean when you say like, oh, it is like kind of a schlocky type deal.
I just like that you, I like the new spin they put on it where, you know, once upon a time,
because the NBA's done this forever.
They would do the NBA.com would do the preseason survey, and I know that because they would ask if you could have any player to start your franchise with.
Who would it be?
And for like four straight years, it was a guy who played here.
Yeah.
Well, you're lucky now it's not a guy who plays here.
Anyway
Yeah, it's very interesting
But it is kind of a
If you have a sports radio show
You love these things
Because that'll fill a segment
Like you're seeing little things like that
Okay, let's mention it for a second
Or talk a little bit more about it
It is interesting
It's funny what stems off of this too
Because now your fan bases
Are either mad
Maybe Lamar Jackson's fan base is mad right now.
He was ranked pretty low on that, if I recall.
Oh, yeah.
Where's he eight?
His top 10 NFL quarterbacks?
Yeah, and you couple that with, I hate to be all over the place,
but I think this is a good, the quarterback thing is a good exercise that you learn about.
What does the league think of these players?
What do the execs think?
Yes, it does turn into fuel for the content machine.
On the other side, I think the NFL top 100 rollout is dog shit.
I think the players, what the players think of each other is not as interesting to me.
And Lamar ended up ranking very low on that.
Oh, wow.
So that was like, I mean, we've already done him, and we're not, you know, they finish shit at like camp.
So he was like 80th or something or 86th or something crazy.
Is Shador really on the list of top 100 players or no?
Did I get ball sacked?
I didn't see it.
Okay, I got ball sacked.
I was like, what?
Okay.
Well, Lamar ending, it's number 69.
That feels like ball sack.
Lamar Jackson, if you're talking about the way we've always talked about the top players in the league, is not in the 60s.
That's insane.
But yes, people get pissed.
The fans, the stands.
I think it was like number eight in this quarterback ranking.
Yeah.
Dack was six, by the way.
An all-time.
And wasn't Jalen Hertz also very low, or was Jalen Hertz number eight?
Hertz was pretty low.
Let me pull it back up here.
But what this gets you to do now is your fan base can, well, we're going to, hey, take a look at this.
Look at Jalen Hertz stats side by side with Patrick Mahomes.
Now, what you need to do here is make sure you do the right time frame.
So if you can do it for the last three seasons, look at Mahomes versus Jalen Hertz.
for the last three seasons.
Similar in passing numbers,
but look, he's got like 40 more rushing touchdowns.
And what we're saying here is Jalen Hertz is as good as Patrick Mahomes.
We lived through this with Brock Purdy.
Look at his numbers versus.
And speaking of Brock Purdy,
Ethan Strauss recently wrote a column.
And it was kind of looking at this and it was talking about
something that piqued my interest in that is
it is interesting that the world of analytics
with these advanced stats and everything,
even with that, in football,
like you don't really,
you can show me all the advanced stats you want,
or show certain people all the advanced stats you want,
and they will not believe Dak Prescott is really that good
because he just doesn't win that big game.
You know, you could show all the stats side by side
with this other great quarterback,
like Brock Purdy would rank.
So in every other sport,
it's kind of like the numbers don't lie.
Like, that's a money ball thing.
You know, we don't have TWTW anymore.
We don't have grit.
We have, look at this.
He gets on base this many times and that's it.
There's no such thing as a closer.
It doesn't matter when, you know,
there's no different.
to ending a game or being in the fourth inning.
That's what the analytics in other sports,
they rule the world.
Whereas in football,
you could show all the numbers you want,
at least with quarterbacks.
Yeah.
I don't know if this goes, you know,
because I think you could show some analytics
to show how Micah Parsons is much more valuable
to a defense actually than just his sack numbers
and his pressures.
Like it actually does help, you know,
it's a thing that...
A multiplier.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm trying to think of, you know, in the NBA, you have, like, empty stats, right?
Baseball, it is what it is.
But in the NBA, I guess you could have a guy who, maybe that's what they're kind of trying to compare DAC to.
Is that he's fantasy numbers?
I guess there is a Jalen Brown.
He's got empty...
Stats, empty stat type thing.
Yeah, but the thing is, is when those guys in the NBA, you either know or you don't.
I don't feel like there's a lot.
there's not a lot of debate.
You're a top player and you get a chance to prove it in the playoffs.
And then when you lose in the NBA,
I don't think you're viewed as like,
oh, this guy just can't win the big one.
I don't know.
That's an interesting topic.
But the reason that I find it hard is it's undeniable that there's just,
it's undeniable that there is something to,
especially as a quarterback, performing at the end of the game.
like they're
analytics like whatever
there just is like you have
and I'll you watch the first episode of the quarterback
show um and sometimes
maybe when we talk about like how to perform
under pressure it becomes too like woo-woo and mystical
when really it's just knowing
what plays to make and which one's not to
because this little clip from Baker
uh this touchdown drive they had to end the first game
I thought it was awesome and uh he kind of describes
how they got to where they wanted to get.
Takes a belt, high snap, looks,
those have all toward the end zone.
It's a touchdown, tap of A.
Fuck yeah!
Also, I just love hearing Baker scream,
fuck yeah.
And the way they edit this,
they just have the announcer.
Fuck yeah, the announcer.
Those have all toward the end zone.
It's the touchdowns have made.
Fuck yeah.
Fuck yeah.
Damn.
If you had wondered what is flowing
through this kid's veins,
a little bit of ice water, folks.
Let's go.
That's how you play for it then, all right?
That's how you wait for it.
Take it, take it, take it, fuck you.
Like, that's how you win at the end of the game.
That's being cool under pressure, but the take it, take it, take it, fuck you.
Like, over the top.
But so there is something to that.
But if your team doesn't get you in situations where you're in a position to win big games.
That's where football is the ultimate, you know, team game.
very difficult, I guess, to...
Yeah, and that's the flip side of it.
To throw wins and losses on a single player.
So on this top 10 list that ESPN did, they just did the top 10.
So Lamar actually ranked fifth on that, which you could still argue as low.
Dac ranked 6th.
Hertz was not top 10.
He's just honorable mention.
Oh, I thought he was...
Oh, okay.
So, yeah, and then on the top 100 thing, they've already gotten to Lamar at 69.
But, you know, what...
do you think? Like, if, because I think that I've always thought that the nerds think
DAC is better than the average fan, but, you know, like, I think the players might also think
he's a little better than he is. So which one do you value more? Because executives can be wrong,
right? Like, these people screw up the dread. Look, you mentioned Brock Purdy, right? All the
analytics in the world, you can't figure out that this guy is going to be good. So he goes,
256th overall. The execs can be wrong too, but I feel like the players are poor evaluators
of the value of talent. And the players are watching the least amount of NFL football of all
these people, right? No. As far as knowing the other teams? You think? I don't know. I mean,
you're watching film. Yeah. But there's a good chance that a lot of the players on the list,
you know, like, has Brandon Aubrey seen?
every play you know don't use him because you know he's he's watching a lot he actually does watch a lot
well you remember those quizzes like they don't even know their own division yeah but that's like
when they're coming into the league and i also don't know that they they don't know the divisions
but if you mention some guy who's the sam in jacksonville then they're like i know who that guy is
because he's a problem yeah it's i don't know which is more important but i the executives seem to
be sold on deck.
And you just think about what kind of he's turned into and read some of these quotes.
He's a true acute progression passer.
There's only so many of those types.
He can read the whole field pre-to-post snap.
He's just a really good commander of the offense.
Speaking of Prescott.
You think back when he first came into the league, how athletic he was and how much, you know,
the first downs that he would pick up.
Like his attempts or first downs per attempt, it was like insane.
If he was talking, he was moving the chains.
And that just has left us.
And if you had told me back then that he would be able to get to 12 years later,
athleticism gone and still be like a top 10 type quarterback by being a pre and post snap devil,
no way I would have bought that.
No way.
I thought he would be cooked.
at this point of his career.
I mean, he's become a drop-back passer, you know, a manipulator.
Yeah.
Jason Garrett deserves some credit for that, but I guess there's a lot of people that do,
but I didn't, I didn't.
I think so.
One of the things I remember saying about DAC and perhaps I was wrong,
or, you know, if I am to retrospect it and keep my streak of never being wrong alive,
I would say I was right at the time, but then he developed into that,
which is after he had a good first year, then it was, you know what,
we're going to open it up a little and give DAC more control,
where I didn't know that that was warranted at that time,
but I did think the mindset of the in the NFL is constantly to emulate
what the top players do and try to will that,
upon all the players.
So what I mean is it's like when these quarterbacks are drafted now,
and they are constantly blown metaphorically, right?
Well, maybe both if we know the Cheesecake Factory story.
Just the you're the franchise.
Like Cam Ward, speaking of that show.
Yeah.
Or remember when we watched the Hard Knocks for Tampa Bay?
Like James.
Do you suddenly treat them as if they are Luca, who is a three-time, you know, the all-NBA player hoping that he doesn't leave your franchise.
But you're treating him that from the beginning, telling him how they're the most important thing.
They're the savior.
They are the franchise.
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Even part of the, I had cut off some audio.
we don't need to play it now, but one of the coaches, you know,
after Cam messed up at the end of a game,
is sitting there trying to tell him, you know,
trying to visualize like, hey, in the future,
you're going to think this is easy.
You're going to think this is nothing.
I mean, Tom Brady, that's why I showed you that,
the film of Tom Brady.
Really, you're showing a film of Tom Brady right now?
Just feels like we should be, I don't know,
getting your feet wet a little bit more.
And I realized monetarily, it's tough to say,
you know, we're going to give this guy a couple of years
to ride the bench and,
learn the game a little bit.
I still think a half a year might be a good idea if you're able to, and everybody's
able to do it.
Well, but it's just the fast forwarding.
And what I'm getting at there is I think Dak, Dak did progress to where he does deserve
that leash, you know, give him more freedom in the offense because, yes, he is.
But I just think we're so quick to try and project every.
quarterback into what the best possible thing they could be.
Whereas, hey, what about with a Jalen Hertz?
Look what they do with him.
I think it's true.
He's not the best quarterback.
He might not be a top five quarterback,
but the way they use him, the way they use his skills,
they have built a team around him just perfectly.
And they run the offense just perfectly for Jalen Hertz.
Purdy is another one that.
Purdy might be another one.
It's a different game, but they use his strengths.
You know, they don't run Purdy.
They don't push push-push-push-puddy, you know?
Yeah, but they're definitely, you know, he's in a system that works very well for him.
And no, I...
Or maybe he just happened to, you know, maybe that's Shanahan system, and that's, he fits it great.
I think the interesting, like, math that franchises and organizations have to figure out is, like, okay, if the only way that we're
we have a chance to win a Super Bowl, and if you just think to yourself, that's the only
reason we're doing this. We're not trying to be good. We're trying to win a Super Bowl.
If the only way that we can win a Super Bowl is if we have an elite franchise passing quarterback
who's fully in control of the offense, then why waste our time getting, you know what I mean?
Like, let's just go for it. Like, they're only trying to hit home runs, basically.
So you could have the approach, you see this in the contracts as well, right? Like, this is what we've
debated forever is, you know, is there a guy who could get 30 instead of 60 and still be good?
You know, you're, but, but is there an argument, the way the Cowboys did it almost is they did
both. Like, they did eventually ask him to do more and there were some bumps, but they've gotten to this
point where he is, you know, fully in control. But you're right, not every guy needs to be given that
as early as they are. The fortunate thing for Dak was he wasn't a first round pick. He was able to
develop as a real player, you know? And I mean, even though he played right away, people didn't
expect him to do what he did the way he did. They weren't up his ass like they are first-round
quarterbacks. I mean, in retrospect, well, they had a kick-ass roster. They did have a kick-ass roster.
And they were winning games without him necessarily having to be the entire reason, although he was
pretty great that year. All right, we have more sports, a big sports story, but we will tell,
say this ranger's talk will be brought to us by flooring direct dfdbw.
FlooringDirectdefW.com slash dZ.
What do I have here?
You've got a floor, a piece of a floor, a beautiful floor,
with the light just dancing right off it.
It's this one or we've got to pair down to two, I believe.
It's a very difficult process.
Will that be up here?
When you have a wife.
That's going to be awesome.
I think we're going to carpet up here because of the dogs.
Sound.
Oh.
Things like that, you know.
I say the dog.
You'd prefer wood for the dogs.
Okay.
The dogs actually prefer a little carpet, a little something stable.
So we'll maybe lay a rug on this in the middle of the floor.
But anyway, you got...
Beautiful.
Yeah.
Anyway, flooring direct to EFW.
They are awesome.
So you get more than just that.
If you have...
You get the whole house.
We're doing our whole house.
So if you have a wife that has trouble, like, making decisions, they're so...
In fact, last night, she was going nuts.
She was like, where would I be without Rick Renner?
Like, he's our sales guy.
And she's like, he's so patient.
You know how I am.
And I said, oh, really?
Really?
Are you?
Does it take you a while?
No, I hadn't noticed that at all.
Anyway, they are great.
They bring a ton of it.
In fact, this was one of the two that she had only seen.
He didn't have the physical sample.
So this came in the mail the other day.
You know, he's like, all right, we'll just send for some samples.
Yeah, just to see.
So then she's walking around the house with the different samples last night.
She's laying them on the counter, and I go, why don't you lay it on the floor?
Because then you'll see how it looks.
She's like, no, no, no.
You got to look high and then you got to look low.
Oh, my God.
So she's doing all walking around the whole house.
Worth the price of admission.
It was great.
But we're going to have new floors.
You can do it too.
They'll beat any deal in DFW.
They are DFW.
That's another thing.
They are a local company.
and Dan Ratcliffe is a guy I've known for a long time,
and they are going to treat you right.
So check them out.
FlooringDirectDefW.com.
Do you have, like, their number in front of you?
I know they have a number too.
972-449-9-4-6.
FloorindirectDefW.com slash dZ.
The Rangers, it's really, really, I guess, in DFW,
our top story today,
that the Rangers have,
at the All-Star break here,
they sent out an email saying,
we're no longer on this streaming platform.
Now if you want to watch Rangers baseball,
you have to go to this streaming platform.
You know, we're not on this streaming platform
that nobody had heard about a year ago.
We're now on one that nobody had heard about a week ago.
Mm-hmm.
What we're seeing here is the continued.
Like, I don't know where we're going to be in 10 years, Jake.
I mean, the media sports landscape.
We're going to be up here with brand new floors.
We'll probably do it again in 10 years.
This is the aftermath of the blowing up of the bit.
It's the cable death.
The death of cable has, it's like Jake taking out,
the Hello Kitty backpack.
It led to this.
It led to this.
It led to this.
And before you know it...
Yeah.
And I think that's probably part of getting older is when you look at things.
There's a lot of ideas where you're like, that's a good idea.
We should do that.
Because you assume, like, best intentions and best outcomes, like, well, everybody will
be cool about this.
But then you forget that if you, like, have a society that might be broken in some
ways, or there's no, like, regulations.
there's somebody really in charge that if they break the old way,
the new way is going to be like a fucking can of snakes.
And I did not anticipate the vampires devouring the corpse of sports in the way that they have.
A lot of money to be made.
Now, the leagues, it's funny how, I mean, the MLB labor issue is on the table right now.
And I don't buy any of the things, really,
that the Major League Baseball owners are saying,
as far as why they need a salary cap.
I mean, as a fan, I don't like that the Dodgers spend $400 million
and another team can spend, you know, 80 million.
That seems wrong, incredibly wrong.
But the death of the cable, you know, it is,
this is going to be very significant.
Because a team like the Rangers were making like, what, was it $500 million a year off of that kind of a thing?
That's too high, right?
They signed a billion-something dollar package many, many years ago.
The point is they were making, you know, quite a bit on local sports rights revenue.
And now that these teams are saying, well, let's do it ourselves since there's no cable.
they're realizing, wow, those cable companies or FSSW or whoever,
they were really overpaying us in a sense of they weren't getting dollar for dollar return.
You know how like I say we're viewed as a different thing sometimes?
Like many of our advertisers actually can put pen to paper,
and they're getting more than a dollar for dollar return.
Whereas advertising in general over the years was not a guarantee that if you spend one
thousand dollars you will sell one thousand dollars a product no but you're putting it in people's minds
it's going to last for you know it's it's it's advertising it's uh it's very it's a psychological
game yeah there's a lot of factors well sports were playing like we're in a dollar for dollar
game or they thought that they kind of were they thought hey my broadcast the texas rangers
are so popular that it is worth
I don't know what it was.
$250 million a year, whatever they got.
They packeted out of that deal.
No, what they needed, though,
they needed endings eaters at the Fox Sports Southwest,
and they needed programming.
And it's like, you know what?
This will be like, it's a feather in our cap to have it.
It's like when CBS signed Letterman at first, right?
We're going to make our whole network, like this will be good.
It's why you get the Olympics.
You don't make money off the Olympics sometimes.
But where do you make money?
Because we can now, all these eyeballs that are coming here,
we'll promote all our shows that we have on.
You know?
Well, you know, do you make money on the NFL?
I don't think you do.
I think if you did, the NFL would have never disbanded the NFL network.
The NFL network even found out.
God, when we sell the stuff ourselves,
we don't make nearly as much as when we sell it to a network.
So ESPN just paid a billion dollars for our rights.
We were thinking they sell $2 billion in commercials.
They don't.
Yeah.
It's actually just to hold, you know, wow.
So that's why the NFL got out of the broadcast game.
They merged that with the SPN.
They're like, it's better if you guys do this.
Well, now that the Major League Baseball, the NBA and hockey are losing their local sports, you know, cows, cash cows that were backing up the truck to make sure they can get programming on there.
They're all learning that.
and they're all trying to figure out a way
and that's what we're in the middle of here
or maybe we're at the very start of here.
Yeah, and it's something that our buddy Rylan Rowe,
he's a trophy club city council member
who's actually on the boys' trip I'm going on today.
But he's a few years older than I am,
and he's hardcore, you know, DFW sports fan died in the wool.
So he would always reference one business in particular, Blake,
Arlington
camera
or let's use
the smash and low prices
out in Garland.
Are you talking about
one of those ranger?
Yeah.
So the math works out
to somewhere like 600 grand
to a million dollars a game
on their previous deal.
It was somewhere between
80 and 130 million a year.
And you're watching the Rangers
and you're watching the inventory
and it's like a camera
it's a commercial that looks like it was
shot in 1977 in like this, you know, I've been to Arlington camera. How are these companies
buying half a million to a million dollars of advertising five nights a week on this baseball
game I'm watching? Like this, this just does not math. Right. They weren't. They weren't. And so
somehow it puts me in a spot where I almost feel like I have to be anti, not anti, but the players,
it seems like at some point, they're going to have to make less. I know the owners are going to
have to make way less.
But there's no way that some of these guys, we know when we see it, right?
Like I always reference John Wall.
Like when John Wall was making like $53 million a year with the Wizards.
I'm like, there's no way the Wizards are generating enough revenue to pay for this.
So somewhere I feel like the players do actually have to make a little bit less.
But I feel like they would be better off in baseball's case, avoiding.
the cap, even if it means that they have to like reset the market on the salaries a little bit.
Where's the money going to come from, right?
Somewhere, it has to come from somewhere.
Because there's a lot of fake money involved here.
And now, just that the fact that those salaries previously were inflated were grossly
inflated based on TV deals that were inaccurate.
Now that they're getting to the real market, hell yeah, like you said, it makes me feel
good about our business.
Because truly, we are like one of the few things.
in this game where it is kind of
you buy advertising and you can
sell your product.
But that's not how this usually works.
There's a lot of awareness campaigns out there
that are resulting in Jack Peterson
getting $25 million
or $50 for $2 or whatever it was
when he's 37.
So I don't know where he, I mean,
I don't know where it goes.
It's a bubble in some sense, right?
Yeah, well they try, so what they did is they
the Rangers didn't really have a thing
and so they signed on with Victory Plus
which is more of a Stars thing
the stars thing the stars have been more
at least the major investors
Galardi
Galardi yeah and he got the
like there's another hockey league on there
the Ducks were on there
WHO I think there was a couple of
WNBA teams
yeah and I think they had some tentative deals
in place for a couple of MNBA teams to join.
But the MNBA teams were like, you know what?
Yeah, we'll try this for a year maybe.
And the Stars or Victory Plus really wanted,
they needed to get some long-term deals in place
because they were trying to get more funding.
They're not making money on that at all.
They're losing a lot of money on it.
But it's, I mean, Netflix lost money when they start, right?
All these companies lose money when they start.
That's what we've learned in business here.
Like if we would have taken a bunch of investment money,
we could have started bigger and had a big huge studio and built this and all that.
Gold bracelets.
But it would be losing money in the theory that in the future it'll catch up to that.
Well, Victory Plus didn't seem to be on that path because everybody's trying to do their own thing.
It does make me think a little bit.
I'm jumping around here, I know.
But it does make me think a little bit about this game we're in now of leaving terrestrial radio.
And by whatever reason, others that we know, and many people have done that now.
And we would reach out and be like, hey, why don't we, you could join our thing.
Well, no, actually, we want to make the money, so we're going to do our thing.
And we want to do like a little network thing.
or we want to, like, everybody wants to be the head of the thing.
And that's what maybe the Rangers are kind of in on this, too, like, hey,
because they switch to an app now that one of their owners.
They switched to a streaming service.
There is no app.
Oh, there's not even an app yet?
No.
No.
You got to cast your TV.
Which I know to you is not a big deal, but I am more him than you on the generation.
I watched a shit ton of sports on an iPad or on my phone, dude.
Like, I watched the entire World Cup games.
Yeah, I watched stuff on my computer all the time.
Yeah, but the computer, at least, you can go to the website.
Victory Plus's website was not great, but...
Did you see Buzzers' website?
I haven't even, no.
So it's BZZR, right?
We don't use vowels.
They have a live chat during the game.
Shut.
No.
Yeah, they do.
You can jump right in there, just like our YouTube feed?
Yes.
You think that'll go well?
Like you can see it?
There's no way.
Yes, dude.
I mean, it's got to be moderated in some way.
Yeah, there's no editing?
No, people have already said there will be new slurs invented by the next time we play Houston.
It's crazy.
I mean, I honestly, like, I, you know, I'm not, I'm not a heavy porn guy anymore, but the second I saw it, I thought of Brazzers.
So I was like, what are we doing here?
This is just, I'm going to call it Brazzers.
Oh.
But yes, that's the conspiracy, is the who, whatever.
What?
Leibman, Liebman, is an owner of Buzzers streaming or something like that.
Well, that's not really a conspiracy.
Actually, no.
So, Buzzers' website, the minority owner who is chairman of Rangers Sports Media and Entertainment Company is Neil Libman.
And that's what I thought he was.
Right.
I thought he had a cape.
Yeah.
I thought it.
Lib man.
It's funny, too.
Have you ever seen the dustpan?
No.
It's a brand of dustpan.
Lib man.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
No, I've absolutely walked around Home Depot or Lowe's seen that,
taking a picture and said, I'm going to tweet this at Jake or something.
Yeah, no, I've posted it before and said, it's me, guy who thinks that.
The only reason that, you know, you don't agree with me is you don't understand.
Libman.
Anyway, yeah, sorry.
I interrupted Neil Libman, who's probably not, folks.
Let's just be honest about it.
It's a Rangers investor.
So, yeah, they say, yeah, that was the big deal.
Nobody, they're trying to get more investors with Victory Plus.
They're not able to.
That's my analysis of this is the Rangers are seeing the writing on the wall here.
Victory Plus is going nowhere.
This is not a long-term thing.
I guess Victory Plus also had guaranteed a certain amount to some of their partners.
and I'm just going to read between the lines and say they must have missed payments to the Rangers.
That's been out there.
Okay, because it said they've missed some payments with some of their partners.
And this partner's fleeing.
So I would imagine they're like, you know what?
Now, the question is, do we at least stay on a platform where our fans are right now
through the rest of the season and then figure things out?
Or do we send an email and say, hey, fans,
as of now, we have transferred your subscription.
So your Victory Plus season past subscription has been, they sent us an email yesterday because we're a subscriber.
We subscribe to all the local sports stuff.
Mm-hmm.
And then now you have to go recreate your accounts, but your subscription is still active.
And you have immediately, you have immediate access to watch the Texas Rangers.
but they give you a code.
You have to put in a promo code.
I mean, it just seems like a bit of a beating
for a team that has put their fans through some beating.
I had one fan reaction that I thought was poignant on Twitter,
which is the Rangers are in full damage control mode.
After our digesting all of this,
I think it's more ridiculous now that we have had more
info than I did in my initial knee-jerk reaction this morning.
Oh, wait.
Anyway, their finger-pointing and blaming Victory Plus for it all is hilarious.
The Rangers chose Victory Plus over several other options, including having MLB produced and
distribute the games.
They also didn't find out just yesterday this was a possibility.
Why are we getting two days' notice?
An absolute shit show.
They've been pissing in our face since they won the title, decreasing payroll heavily,
despite all the World Series money that poured in and being in a top-five market.
all the on-field failings and terrible moves that have been made.
All the BS with Bally's Diamond and now this two years later.
Then to get absolutely tone-deaf and say, sorry, we're not refunding your money.
Go get it from Victory Plus.
I'll suck it up because I love the baseball and this team,
but FU. Ray Davis.
Sell the effing team.
Hashtag fire CY.
Well, that's a, I mean, that's a great take, I would say.
My first question was the MLB thing
Because I don't really know how all this works
But I know that some teams are doing that
Because I see them
On like when some
Sometimes when you go to try to watch a game on MLB.com
You can tell who like if it's a locally produced one
Or if it's an MLB produced one
So I don't know who the teams are
But I know it's possible
That's where the quote conspiracy thing part is
Right
Because that would have been a lot easier
But then that
that guy wouldn't be getting the cut for Brazzers, the company that Libman owns, right?
Well, why did they do Victory Plus in the first place then?
That I don't really know.
I guess maybe it's because, like you said, that there's some level of synergy between the
Stars and Rangers and they thought that by doing this together, long term it'll make both,
but then things immediately, it's like, okay.
Yeah, that would make sense.
I would think it would.
I mean, also, again, I don't know how this stuff works, but at some level I feel like,
This is how I used to think about, like, sending 20 people to a cowboy game to all have the same audio.
And I'm like, you know, we have Dropbox.
We could, do I really need to go to Washington, D.C.?
To be in the locker room?
I will.
But, like, it's some level, I think it would be cheaper.
Like, doesn't server space or Internet?
Like, if every single buddy wants to be the, we are in charge, it's just us.
Then everybody's looking in a silo looking around.
Like, well, we all have our own thing.
but none of it.
Yeah, but your long, as you say,
maybe a bigger picture long-term play
would be for the local teams to team up
and say, let's be on this one platform
because then all the local fans could go there
and that's the place to go
because now you're really going to tell,
you know, they all thought,
we all think we're big things.
That's part of the problem.
Once everybody's separate,
you're like, oh, look at, oh, man, actually,
I mean, you see that DLLS, we've even mentioned before.
Their Cowboys numbers are huge, but they don't get, or wasn't even there another thing?
There are different websites that have tried, like, I'm going to be Dallas Sports Only.
And they find that the Stars and Rangers get a trickle compared to the Cowboys.
And the Mavs, I don't know how they are lately either, but.
Well, this is why.
Rangers and Mavs are all the little brothers fighting for the attention.
There's the star is the Cowboys.
But if they all kind of joined up, that might be a lot better.
Like when they were all on Fox Sports Southwest.
Fox Sports Southwest.
Hell, throw some two hots in there.
Call them Fox Sports Girls.
But then it would be, well, who's got the big ownership piece in this?
Who's getting the bulk?
Isn't there any way for the three of them to,
own it, uh, 33% each?
Well, you could own it 33% each, but I would imagine if I'm the Mavs and then the Rangers
in that order that I'm like, well, we're certainly not going to be splitting revenue.
I mean, their, their rates have got to be different, right?
Yeah.
But and that's, that is why.
But the rates were different on Fox Sports Southwest when they sold ads.
Yeah.
And I don't know how they hand, but they didn't own it, right?
Probably.
Yeah.
But they, yes, they each got different monetary packages from South, Fox Sports Southwest.
And they made it work.
And that's so the two points I would have are, again, Cuban was very instrumental in keeping
the Mavs and Stars in the same building for a long time because, yes, the stars are always going
to be a pain in the ass thinking, hey, we should be, we're 50-50 here.
And that's fine.
If they, organizationally, they want to stick up for themselves.
But Cuban made it work.
And then the other thing is, you know, we've talked about the price, like when these teams are
moving and that the tickets are just going to be exorbitantly expensive, right?
Like, they can charge whatever they want to charge.
The whole thing with the new Mabs Arena is going to be more premium seating, more basically
non-basketball viewing options for you to pay for, like club seating.
And they can charge whatever they want for that because I told you, I heard junior reference
some study on the ticket that was like the accused.
accumulation of not just wealth, but spending in America.
Like 90% of the spending is done by like 10% of the people.
And if they just want to target that 10 or maybe even 5 top percent of people and cleave off the people that might be able to pay $100 for a ticket instead of 400, it doesn't matter.
Because they have enough people up in that top 5%.
They'll make so much more on the high end.
They'll make so much more.
They've done the numbers.
So that works on the arena.
There's a fixed number of seats, and it's a live event that everybody's stoked on.
This other stuff that they're trying to do over here, though, it will piss even that top 5, 10% of people off that will cancel this shit out of principle.
They can afford it.
They just don't want to mess with it.
You know what I mean?
The ticket to the AAC is 200 or 800.
It doesn't matter to them.
but this stuff, it does.
This stuff, you're like, I don't want to mess up.
How much of what you pay for sometimes is convenience?
That's what I'm saying?
These people are like, so what do I have to do to watch?
I just don't.
And then they're usually business people themselves.
If I have to go through those hoops.
If they're that wealthy.
To watch it, I'm just not going to watch.
They're looking at you like, why don't you have your shit together over there?
Like, we don't want to, I don't, this is an F around and find out big time.
Somehow we turn that into, hey, we're really good at advertising.
No.
But it's true.
And now...
Okay.
Why don't you tell it...
How am I going to get my grandpa on buzzer?
You're not.
I'm going to get my parents on buzzer.
That's what I'm saying.
My dad makes a lot of money.
If he'll pay a lot of money to go to the game,
there's no chance he's downloading brothers.
When they finally made the World Series,
like just made it,
I remember doing a segment about my neighbor Bill.
Mm-hmm.
Because he's an old man.
Used to, you know, just get out there and mow the lawn.
whatever.
He's listening to Nadell on his headset on.
Daily.
That's just his whole,
his life was the Rangers.
And yes,
that's a great point.
Your grandpa,
I mean,
he's watched more innings this year
than Jake and I have in last five combined.
Your baseball fans are certainly older demographic, right?
Yes.
Like am I one of the last people
that is just grown up being a huge,
huge baseball nerd?
I don't know.
You were the,
Blake, right?
Yeah, but I'm interested.
But you know what I also did?
Because it was just on every night too.
Yeah.
And it was an innings eater for me, for little Dan, a little Danny at that time.
I'm now Daniel, of course.
But before my metamorphosis into the greatness you see before you,
yes, I was a little nerd, but I could watch the game every night.
Would I have been able to find buzzer?
I guess little kids can probably find it.
Yeah, but.
But the little kids, now they got to talk their parents and spend $100 for Buzzard?
And figuring out how to play it.
What are you supposed to do?
What if you're 10 and you want to watch the game, all right?
You've got to get Dad's laptop, Chromecast it to the TV.
That's where it's the big picture on the, you know, fandom.
Fans, yeah.
Because I think about that a lot, the whole youth sports thing, right?
Like the youth baseball thing.
It's half my timeline now.
I have some good ones in viewer mail.
But don't.
are those kids going to be MLB fans?
You want them to be.
They idolize some of the guys who are in MLB now as stars,
but they're not watching baseball, I promise you that.
But you want them to move into that, right?
Like when they're in high school, college,
that they're going to go to games,
get hammered with their boys, and become baseball fans, right?
But if it's impossible to watch, I don't know.
They're trying to make it like Twitch.
for sports.
That's what they're trying to do.
I feel like they're trying to make it like Twitch for fill in the blank
is like all of society.
Oh yeah.
Didn't they label it as like.
Put some tits on there.
Just give Dave Raymond implants.
Hold on.
The Rangers game is over.
We're going to send you on over.
We're going to raid the Dodgers.
Welcome.
Dodgers fans.
Here's the Rangers fans.
Jared's doing the post game from a hot tub.
Right.
Party lights.
Didn't they label it as it's like a social media,
something for sports?
This will go great.
All right.
Well, before we get into viewer mail, I'm going to tell you guys a little bit about my experience with Brain Topia.
I've told you I have two kids. One of them recently bit me in the genitals. He's the one who has not been going to Brain Topia.
Okay, good. So, yeah, my daughter, as I referenced there, she is autistic. I'm not sure, you know, what other diagnosis, ADHD.
But we looked into Brain Topia after Julie and her son had some experiences with it.
basically it's neural feedback. If that's not something you've heard of, it's something athletes do
or have been doing for a long time. And you go in, it starts with a brain map. Any dumb zone listeners
will get 25% off their first map. I want Dan to do it because it just, it's really interesting
to have them show you your personality on a map and show you the things that you know your brain
reacts poorly to or well to on a map. So the map, you'll get 25% off. And if you decide to
do the sessions. You just sit there for half an hour and watch TV. So you watch TV or can you,
I just look at a picture? It has to be moving. Okay. It has to be audio. And so, uh, could it be the
making of the, uh, the, the one video shoot with Anna Nicole Smith? You could probably do that.
Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I bet you they would line that up for you. I should remember that from being a young
boy. What are the sessions for? Uh, so you sit there and while you are sitting there, they are
measuring and providing feedback to your brain.
So let's say that you're somebody who is,
you know what, I'm not going to make any guarantees.
I think I have to be tricky about that or particular about that, right?
But it's working well with you.
It's worked well for my daughter, like in ways that I,
make me tear up.
Like the change in her in a matter of four months cannot just be simple aging.
Like, it happens.
She's now calming you down on a plane.
Dude, my daughter, I witnessed a serious change in my daughter's, like, anxiety in her confidence, in her, it really has helped Nora out.
So, you know, give it a shot.
972-6407022.
They do it for adults as well.
I did it.
I was already kicking ass, though, so I don't really know how to provide testimonial there.
But get the brain map, 25% off start there.
972-60702 or Braintopia centers.com.
All right.
We have a change in scheduling because our all-pro kicker says he wants to be on here in just about five minutes or so.
Okay.
So do you want to start and do an email or two and then get interrupted?
Let's do that.
I just asked a question and then just decided what to do.
Who am I?
My wife.
Oh, yeah.
Wait a minute.
So do you want to get Chinese tonight?
Yeah, okay.
Actually.
No, she'll be like, what do you want to eat tonight?
I want Chinese.
I was thinking Mexican.
Why'd you ask me?
I do have one.
I have a long one.
We were just talking about from Melissa.
Blake has several times mentioned seeing parents
having to pay for watching basketball games
as a glimpse into a particularly bad weekend we had.
We have twin 12-year-olds.
My son plays on a club baseball team
and a club basketball team.
My daughter plays on a club baseball team.
on a club volleyball team.
We had a weekend where there were tournaments
for all three sports to get into each sport per person
to watch my child play,
basketball, 25 bucks a day,
baseball 15 pucks a day,
volleyball 30 for the weekend.
Unreal.
The tournaments, these facilities,
her own kids.
Will clear 60 to 70K a weekend.
I cannot go to a pro,
or she said,
I can go to a pro sporting event
for the price of watching my kids play
for a full weekend.
She said, you're going to see this with your son based on how you've talked about him.
At some point, club becomes the only option if you want them to compete at a higher level
and you're trapped, even though you're fully aware they are robbing you blind.
She said, I will say my son has been involved with it longer than my daughter.
He's learning things through his baseball team that will help him well beyond the baseball field
and make friends for life at the end of the day, and that's why we do it,
which is both A, probably true and B, probably cope.
What you tell yourself, yes.
but we're all going to be there at some point.
Well, joining us now to talk about that and many other things is the great Brandon Aubrey.
Here, I'll jump to the end.
Oh.
You want to hear the whole thing?
I thought he might be on a time crunch.
He just brought to us by community mechanical, community dfW.com.
469, 66777290.
That's the number.
You can call Travis.
You can text him.
That's what Brandon did once.
And they end up fixing his stuff.
What is the deal, man?
What's going on?
Yeah.
You know, just had a meeting.
We're building a house.
So Colton was running around with father-in-law the whole time,
and he got exhausted and fell asleep on the drive home.
So NAP got moved up a little bit earlier.
He's sitting here in the back seat with me now.
Hopefully he stays asleep for the duration of this thing.
Boy, that's risky.
Do you have firm house opinions?
Man, we just did a spot that it's similar to, I'm sure,
or what you're dealing with.
Like, do you look at a lot of floors and say,
you got to try to read which one they want and then agree with it, right?
Like, where are you in the house process?
Yeah, you pick your battles for sure.
There's spaces I'm going to spend a lot of time in
and I'm going to fight for what I want there.
But in the rooms I'm not going to spend a lot of time in,
I just kind of acquiesce.
I feel like we agree on a general feeling of what we want the house to feel like.
So not going to be a whole lot of battles.
We're going to put in a gym, and that's where both of us are going to spend a lot of time.
So that's going to be probably the biggest, I guess, argument spot I feel coming.
Is your backyard going to be like Dax?
And you can have a goal post up there, and you can just do your kick in there or what?
I would love that.
But, no, we're going to put as much space in there for the kids as possible.
Probably soccer goals.
But, you know, I don't think the 8.000.
Reachaway will look kindly on giant upright sticking out of the back.
Hey, you want Brandon Aubrey in your neighborhood.
This is what you get.
So since he was just talking about travel sports and all that,
and that's a thing big in our minds as people with kids.
And really just because the World Cup's been going on.
Like, I've been thinking I'm sure he's got,
this is like we've been inundated with listener feedback and the whole Team USA thing.
Yeah, let's talk about.
about that angle on why Team USA isn't good and how they can get good.
They're not good, by the way.
I was thinking about that.
We act like they're terrible.
They finish top 20.
I know, but we're the U.S.
and we want to be number one at everything.
And if we're not number one, or at least in the top few, then we're not good.
I just feel like that should be said.
Like, we're doing this.
Why is this a disaster?
The U.S. development, does it need to be changed radically this and that?
Like, it's not, I feel like sometimes we overdo it.
Well, where it is, isn't it stagnant?
It's where it was 20 years ago.
Yeah, and he knows better than us.
Yeah, go ahead.
Sorry.
Yeah, I don't think it's necessarily stagnant.
I think we're making progress faster than other countries are making progress,
but we just, we're so far behind.
And I think one of the things that's great about America is, you know,
democracy, you have a million opinions you have.
So many different, it's a melting pot, so many different ethnicities here,
styles and when that comes to soccer
you know you watch Spain
year and year out every World Cup they kind of have
the same philosophy the beautiful game
keep the ball possession for the sake of possession
tiki tackles what they used to be called
you have like I don't know like
your French team that you have a very distinct
style of play that they've all
agreed upon I feel like with the US
team that hasn't really been a thing
you kind of have people pulling you in all different directions
I think that's what was nice about bringing in a strong manager like we did with Maricio Pucatino.
You know, he brought his style, his belief, his culture with him.
And I think the players bought into it.
And they played a very pretty style of soccer and also had the, you know, the edge to them that you need to play in these big tournaments.
And that's where I thought they kind of brought me a lot of hope.
It looked, it looked promising, especially the first game against Paraguay.
they absolutely dominated them.
We did what we needed to against a very physical Australian team,
broke them down, got a clean sheet,
which said our defense wasn't going to be good enough to keep a clean
cheeks that hadn't done in a long time.
Got one of those.
And then, you know, the turkey game,
you played your second team,
and they looked fine,
but it's the second team for a reason.
We're not probably as deep as,
well, definitely not as deep from front to back on the roster
whereas your massive countries,
but our first 11 going in there
should be able to compete with Belgium.
I think man-to-man in that starting 11
were just as equally talented,
if not slightly more talented than that Belgium squad.
But for whatever reason, mentally,
they felt like they didn't belong, to me,
watching it, they felt like they didn't belong on the field
with Belgium for whatever reasons those are,
previous results, perception, whatever it is.
they need to break that mental barrier and just remind themselves that they're just as good as those guys and they belong on the field with them.
Because this is where it was really heartbreaking to me is they didn't play, not just they didn't play well,
but they didn't look like they had the same enthusiasm, confidence, belief in themselves.
Everything they were doing took like half a fraction of a second longer.
Like they weren't looking up and seeing the full field like they were.
They weren't, you know, receiving the ball with intention of what they were going to do.
They kind of received the ball looked up and then kind of tried to pick apart the team,
which a soccer player, I think that's the most important.
The processing speed, like knowing what you're going to do with the ball before you get it,
your first touch, and then, you know, just that quality of the first touch is dictated by,
you know, how much information you've taken in before you've gotten the ball.
It looked like, you know, for whatever reason, that processing speed wasn't there for them.
and the quality and the first touch was affected by it.
They were just slow to read the game, indecisive on the ball,
which I think is just a confidence thing.
And it's sad to me because they had the confidence.
They felt like they believed they were going to win all the other games,
like they belonged on the field.
And then for whatever reason, the Belgium game,
that belief was gone.
And our best players just kind of had their worst day all at the same time.
So it must have been something to do with the confidence thing.
That's for me.
Do you think the red card controversy could have had some kind of a negative effect mentally to the team?
I don't think.
Yeah, I don't think so.
If anything you would think that would be a spark for them, like give them a little bit more belief,
like, okay, things are breaking our way.
Maybe this is a little destiny showing us that it's kind of meant to be for us.
that's what I would think.
I would imagine that would be a positive going into the game.
A distraction.
I mean, there's distractions all over the place.
It's the World Cup.
You've got media in your hotel constantly.
You've got fans everywhere.
You've got just a billion different storylines.
So, no, I don't think that's an extra distraction is going to bother them because, you know,
especially have distractions every day in the off season, too.
So as a U.S. men's national team player,
distractions everywhere. They deal with distractions constantly. They're good at that.
I would just imagine that would be a bonus, a little spark for him.
Did you think that was Bolsh? The red card?
The red card? Yeah. Well, the red card or the red card restriction? Yeah, either way.
I wouldn't have called it a foul. Both both were odd.
I'm not a fan of the way they've done VAR. I like the idea of VAR, but, you know,
I think it was all back to Egypt goal for a foul that happened.
We lost you for soft foul 20 seconds prior in the buildup.
Okay, he's back.
Yeah, you're back now, but I think you're explaining something.
I was trying to explain to these guys the other day,
and I don't really fully understand how it works when they apply the VAR,
but like in the NBA, they have something called approximate foul,
where if they're reviewing something else and a foul happened approximate, you know, near the play,
they'll enforce it.
And I saw multiple, you referenced the Egypt goal.
There were multiple times in this World Cup where, like, they're looking at something
and then something that happened preceding ends up being enforced.
And I'm the soccer dummy.
But to me, that really, I have a hard time processing that because every event before that
led to that event.
So I don't get it.
I don't like it.
I think you should just look at the event that happened.
but, you know, VIIR is new to me as well.
I didn't play with any of this technology when I was playing.
I haven't been watching too much soccer since VIR has been implemented.
So this is my kind of waking up to it as well.
And I don't like it.
It's my gut feeling.
I know it's early stages for it.
So they're going to work on it and kind of iron out the rough kinks.
But, yeah, it's been, I think, deciding games, which it shouldn't be doing.
I mean, yeah, the Egypt goal was, should not be called back in my opinion.
It's kind of a discretionary call there.
It kind of makes contact with them in real time.
It doesn't really look like a foul in slow motion.
It's going to look worse.
So I don't think you should be calling back goals for something that may be a foul 10, 15 seconds prior to it.
The, there was one more that I didn't really appreciate.
And then, yeah, the slow motion breakdown of ball against foul.
That's really not even a foul.
He's reaching for the ball, and the defender kind of pushes his way through his back
and pushes the ball or clears the ball away from him and knocks him off balance.
He's just trying to put his foot down.
It's got to go somewhere.
And the defender just occupied the space.
I wouldn't have called it a foul.
Referee didn't call it a foul.
Obviously, if you'd take a still shot of it, it looks terrible.
But, yeah, I don't think that's a foul.
I don't think the one that messy was getting compared to.
was a red card either. It's probably more of a yellow card because it's a tactical foul and he's not
trying. There's a little bit of intent usually when it comes to red card unless it's really,
really, really, really reckless. I don't think that's what the baller gun situation was. So I do think
the reversal or suspension of the suspension gets it right in the spirit of the game, but then, yeah,
I don't think you should be, I personally feel like there should be another level of discipline
available to officials as opposed to a yellow card or a red card
because a red card is the most severe punishment in sports.
You're missing the next game as well.
The end of the game, your team has to play down a man,
which is almost impossible in soccer.
I mean, you can hold on to a lead,
but you can't really score again if you fall behind.
So it's kind of the end of the game.
And I don't think VR should be used in these ways,
maybe if like off the
off the screen somebody's punched someone
go to that and give him a red card
but not this way.
How much World Cup have you watched?
I've watched just about every
game. You know,
it's on in the background of the house
so, you know,
running around Jason Toddler and looking up
at the screen and then we'll
put one game on after he goes to bed
every night. I usually stay awake
for like the first 60 or so minutes.
If it's a good game,
find a way to watch it in the morning or stay awake through the night and get it get a watch but
the England game yesterday I was so exhausted I only made it through like 20 20 minutes so I got to catch up on
that one I know the score and everyone's disappointed with England's decisions and just kind of
parked the bus after scoring so I got to go watch that one yeah the strategy sorry how much time do you
have just so I'm respectful um when his kid wakes up until he wakes up really
Okay, I just didn't want to get into, because there's a bunch of soccer stuff.
Well, the reason I asked him about that, how much have you watched,
is because we were filming something for Fairlease.
Congrats on getting involved with Fairleys, one of our fine spaces as well.
Good people.
But we were filming, and when I was talking to you about when,
and we were going to show up at like 7 a.m. at some local field to do some stuff,
and I was just worried about when you got up and all that,
and you're like, yeah, I've been going to bed like a night.
two in the morning because I got to watch.
So I anticipated you say
I watched every second of every game
because you seem like a weird
odd like that.
Tried to do. Okay. So you're just
you're sitting there one in the morning
staring at the TV by yourself
breaking down these games. You can't
take the soccer out of them, Jake.
I love it. I'm not breaking them down
I guess, but I am watching them as a
fan. The group stage was
a lot of fun. There were a lot of fun storylines
and then you kind of get to the
the predictable four teams that everyone would have picked as your semi-finalists.
So once Norway lost, it was kind of like all the fun of the tournament's done.
We're at the business end.
So just kind of less interest in it for me to watch them as a fan.
And while I'm sure it was primarily soccer, the midnight to 2 a.m.
when everyone else is asleep and you're the only one awake.
You're not fooling us.
That's you time.
Yeah.
So whatever you do at that time is fine.
Yes.
My question for you is, did you do any sort of international play while you were doing tournaments and even at Notre Dame?
We went to Zimbabwe as our international trip when we were at Notre Dame.
Our coach had ties to a charity that, you know, kind of taught about AIDS through soccer.
Okay.
Which was an interesting one.
And we went over there and did a couple.
Yeah, right?
Never thought I would.
Well, how do we do it?
It's because we intercept cancer, right?
So do we have any sort of?
Slide tackle AIDS.
Right.
I forget the slogan, but that's a good one.
Give it a red card.
Red card.
Well, reds bad.
It's like positive, so.
I don't know.
Yeah.
Okay.
I'm sorry.
Go ahead.
It was fun.
It was, I don't think I would do it again, but we ran some clinics with, you know, some
health professionals over there, played soccer, played a few of their professional teams.
We were supposed to go on a few excursions.
We went like on a safari.
We went to a couple of, or we went to one, what's it called?
Victoria Falls, which was like one of the wonders of the world, I guess.
And then after that, like those were days one and two.
And we were there for three weeks.
Our tour guides got deported back to the U.S.
as they went over the border to Zambia.
They got there a month before us,
and they went over the border to Zambia while we were at the falls,
and apparently their visas had expired,
so they got locked up in a Zambian prison for a couple of days,
and then deported.
The rest of the world's got a lot going on, Dan.
Damn.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I never even, I didn't think about it when the schedule came out,
but playing at that stadium in Brazil,
that's got to be something.
that you've thought about, I assume as a kid growing up as a soccer fan, that's like Yankee
Stadium or something? Is that a big deal?
Yeah. I never really thought much about venues as a kid. They didn't seem to matter much,
but this is definitely as a kicker, something you think about all the time with elevation or heat
or rain, the type of grass turf, whatever it is. So think more about venues. But now when it comes to,
You watch the Mexican national team play in Esteka Stadium.
That's just an incredible experience.
I don't know if they'd have the same atmosphere for a Cowboys game,
but that's definitely something I think you'd want to do.
I don't know much about this stadium we're going to,
but I've heard it's an incredible experience that the fans,
obviously Brazilian fans are incredibly passionate about their soccer.
Hopefully they have a little bit of that in their blood for football as well.
I'm not sure, maybe at least for kicking,
when they run out the kickers out there and they start cheering for us.
But yeah, it'll be fun to see a different culture for sure
and see how their fans interact with the game of football.
Did you guys get a note about updating passports
or have you all heard any Brazil travel stuff yet?
Yeah, we've got our passports taken care of.
I've got mine done.
Hopefully most of our teammates do,
but they've been on top of that since it's been announced.
So I think they had like a bunch of meetings for guys kind of walking them through how to do it if they hadn't had it done yet
And there's assistance for guys like they'll do it for you and just
You need to help them with information
I just remember traveling with like a like North Texas
It would it would shock me how often like a guy would forget his ID or is bad
It's just I cannot imagine the logistics of trying to travel you guys to Brazil
It's I
Big props to whoever's in charge
charge of that. So you mentioned Norway. And I have two Norway related questions as they also relate
to like youth soccer because I've been made aware that Norway handles their development way differently.
There's a real sports about it, which by the way is impossible to find online, Dan. Have you ever
noticed? Yeah, they don't keep the...
Why? Real sports are the greatest shows ever. And you can't just go find it. But they, you know, socialism, whatever, they basically
subsidize kid sports up until like they're 14 or 15. Everybody can play. It's free. They don't
focus necessarily on skill development early at all. And they don't even really keep score until
they're like 13. So we think of that over here and we're like, oh, that's, you know, sissy.
But then you look at Norway, you don't look at their team and think, boy, a bunch of these guys
must have just been babied. But they don't keep score, which,
keeps kids interested.
And they also don't force skill on them when they're young.
They wait until you're a little bit older and your body has developed.
So I'm kind of wondering what you think about that, but also the Norway story, obviously,
was Erling Holland.
And another one of the big talking points was the size of the players and the type of
athletes that filter into soccer in America.
And if that's like an excuse or a reason why, you know, the old, whatever.
what if, you know, what if Demarcus Ware were a centerback type thing at his peak?
So what do you think about the types of players that end up in soccer and how we train them?
I mean, I guess against the way the rest of the world does it or other countries do it.
Yeah, I'm not entirely sure what the best way to do it is I think we're trying to rapidly iterate on what we're doing and constantly changing.
because when I look at the youth soccer trajectory now,
it's way different than when I was playing.
I trained like three times a week with a club team on my own
with a skills coach twice a week until I got to high school.
And then I stopped that, which probably not the best.
So with three one and a half hour practices,
mostly focused on tactics,
because again, like you mentioned,
we're focused on winning.
So tactics is kind of the best way to do that,
as opposed to individual skills training.
So more focused on the team than the individual at that level.
And I don't think I had, you know, a shot up against the international guys who,
the England Academy system, which we're trying to mold our youth system after now,
at least through the MLS, and MLS next, I think it's called,
where we have the MLS teams kind of handling players develop
development all the way down to probably 10 years old,
kind of molding them after the system that they want at the first team.
And I think there's a little bit of direction from the national team as well,
saying, which is what I was talking about earlier,
we need is just a common thread of how we're going to play as a national team,
filtered down to the kids so they can learn that and kind of know what you want.
But I'm not sure when it comes to pay to play,
how you unwind your way from that.
I know there's a different system at the top as well.
When you look at England where you're buying and selling players
where these academy programs are funded by the sale of their players.
So I don't know if that's feasible in the U.S.
until we have a little bit more time in this system
that is funded by the pay to play.
aspect of it where we do get the return on investment where we sell like four or five young
players over to big European clubs at a high value and then it's up to the club level like the
let's say FC Dallas turns around and sells four or five players and they net 12 million dollars.
What do they do with that money?
Do they turn around and pay for their academy players and they don't have to pay anything to be
there?
That's a great method, but that's not going to tackle all the other players who, you know, aren't in that system.
That's just going to maybe take care of the top 1%.
Or do they look at investing into your rec leagues?
But that's something that I don't know the answer to and don't really have any sort of control over.
But if you kind of want the U.S. soccer system to model the European system, I think that's something
maybe to look at.
And then it's, what do they do with those profits?
I think they're going to probably pump it into their first team, which they should,
and then go by quality players.
And, you know, if you make the first team more profitable, then you can, after, you know,
the league is in line with the English Premier League, which probably won't ever happen.
But once it's a little bit closer or something, and this has seen more as a destination
for players in their prime as opposed to slightly pass their prime.
but still big names,
then you can use those profits to then shift it down into the academy.
And then once the academy's rolling and funding itself,
then maybe they can give back to the kids and the communities
that don't have a way to tackle the pay-to-play system.
But I think, yeah, the way you described,
I was listening in the weekend costs,
going to the three kids sporting events.
That's a sad state of affairs.
I don't think that's necessary,
but I'm sure I'll be figuring out the same way you guys are how crazy it is
once my kids are a little older.
Yeah, you say it's changed,
but did your parents ever put pen to paper and say,
you know what,
we put this much money into your soccer life?
No, they didn't say that,
but they didn't like run a cost up,
but obviously I'm traveling.
every other weekend or every weekend, whatever it was,
because I'm in this Academy League,
which I don't think even exists now,
but we'd have teams from Oklahoma,
teams from South Texas.
We had a Kansas City team,
Colorado, two Colorado teams in our league.
So we'd travel to one of them,
one of them would travel to us every weekend.
And, yeah, that was a lot of money to travel.
Got it by the hotel and the,
the flights or gas your car up and drive down.
And then there's the league dues,
but they weren't charging my parents to get into watch the games, at least.
It's crazy.
Which I think that's the excessive part.
I thought the league dues were supposed to cover the facilities.
So your parents would travel too and get a hotel room for them.
Well, yeah, the way it would work when I was growing up,
My mom was the team manager, so she'd have to organize and collect from the whole team.
We had a couple of guys that were scholarship guys that couldn't afford it that the rest of the team chipped in for.
And then we'd get our hotel, we'd get a big block rate, and then, you know, parents would stay with the kids.
Like me and my mom shared a bunch of hotel rooms all across, you know, our region of our league.
Damn. Yeah, now they have some kind of scams going on where you have to go to a certain hotel or else you can't play in the tournament.
Like they've, yeah, there's all kinds of stuff going on.
Yeah, somebody looked at what you guys are doing and said, how can I profit off of that?
Yeah, yeah.
Doesn't seem like I'm profiting off of them traveling.
So.
Yeah, I can't wait.
Yeah.
Yeah, I guess we'll have to wait to your kids or older to see.
see what sports they gravitate to.
We know that, you know, soccer is your love for sure.
You want to talk a little football?
I have a football thing for you right here.
I have a today in history, Jr.
I found this out this morning,
because I remember one day I told you
about the history of a kicker named Mark Mosley.
If you remember, do you remember the bullet point
on Mark Mosley?
You probably don't.
I don't.
Mark Mosley, the only NFL kicker to win the MVP.
Oh, yeah.
So we have raised.
In the short and season.
Right.
We were all, well, it was a strike short in season.
Sure.
You can, there are some factors.
But the thing is, we were all really impressed when you became an all pro and all that kind of stuff.
But we're trying to keep you humble and we have a new goal for you.
So it is MVP.
Okay.
MVP of the entire league over all the quarterbacks and everything.
That's your goal.
Today's lesson is about Gary Anderson.
Okay.
Because happy birthday to Gary Anderson.
Gary Anderson.
Have you heard of his name?
I've heard of his name.
So he is 67 years old today.
You may know him because he's the first ever South African to be an NFL kicker.
Or you may know him because in 1998 he became the first ever kicker to not miss a field goal or extra
point for the whole season.
Wow.
That's impressive.
But you would not want to be Gary Anderson.
No.
Because their team was really good.
They were 15 and 1.
It was the Minnesota Vikings.
They were highest-scoring team in the league.
They had the best kicker in the league.
They got to the NFC championship game.
Gary Anderson missed a field goal.
Yeah.
Uh-oh.
And they ended up losing the game in overtime.
Oh, rough.
Yeah.
Must be all his fault.
Yeah, that's the way we do treat kickers, don't we?
They were, yeah, that was the year.
If you've ever seen the highlights of Randy Moss going off at Texas Stadium on Thanksgiving,
that's the year.
The Vikings went 15 and 1.
Yeah, he was a rookie year then, I believe, Randy Moss.
Yeah.
My other football stuff is, you know, I love to listen to Shadi's press conferences,
and Shadi was talking about today.
It was like during mini camps or something.
He's like, yeah, we just had these mandatory meetings today.
It's the NFL sends people in to talk to you about gambling and domestic violence and things like that.
So I just want to know what's it like.
What are those meetings like?
How many of them are there?
Is it, yeah, what are they, what are you doing?
Are you looking at your phone?
What are you doing?
Normally we sit down in Oxnard on day one or two and hammer out like five hours of these meetings.
So it's nice to get a few of them done in mandatory minicamp.
Yeah, just sit down and this one was kind of more the domestic violence, family violence one was more of a panel discussion where you have a moderator come in and like talk to you about the signs of it, like all the components of it, like what it could look like.
and then, you know, more talking about managing stress on and off the field,
how you can, like all the resources you have available to you if you're feeling certain ways
and that sort of stuff.
But end of the day, the story is just treat people with respect.
And if you're kind of upset, find a way to walk away and cool down and come back to it when you're, you know,
in a better state of mind.
And then the gambling one, just don't gamble on your sport.
Or don't gamble while you're on a team facility or on a trip.
It's very simple, very easy to do.
I say that because I don't gamble at all.
So it's pretty easy for me.
It should be easy for everyone else as well.
Yeah, I will say this as a guy with a brother who played college football and he played
at a very risky level.
A lot of Brett Farrve and my brother's quarterbacking.
And he also loves to gamble.
And obviously, you could even make this in a more darkly case
about the domestic violence thing.
Like, you have a group of people here who, by their nature,
like make insane decisions based on belief in themselves all day.
Like, they, you know what I mean?
Like, you've got guys who are, whether it's high tea, whether it's...
And it's usually worked out for them in life.
Look where they are.
They're killing.
it right like so i feel like i know that you say it should be easy but it's a lot easier for like
betas like us you know what i mean you've got a group of guys who are like holy shit i'm awesome yeah
i ended up here everything i do yeah so i i can promise you that if i if i were a pro athlete
you know you'd find other things so i don't know i get it just the gambling piece i say is easy
yeah yeah yeah that's just don't do it well the main reason it should be easy is because you're
making a lot of money.
And gambling is always something.
Yeah, but you could have more money if you win.
Yeah, it would be better to add more.
This is the guy, Brandon, who's like, why can't you have one beer, Jake?
I thought he beat addiction.
I thought he could have one and it'd be okay.
That's a great point.
If you beat it.
Right.
Then you shouldn't be scared of it.
Now, one day, I wanted you to tell us about this.
One day I heard him talking about they were doing team building exercises.
I always love those.
Yeah, they went to paintball.
He got to play paintball year one.
You played paintball?
Yeah, I played paintball.
Okay.
Last year.
Okay.
Was that at camp or is that mini camps?
No, that was, opening day of OTAs.
What did you do this year for that?
Gosh, I've got no sleep brain right now.
I, he said.
Oh, we went to golf.
We golfed.
We went to Cowboys Club, and we went to Cowboys Club,
and we did a long drive competition,
mini-put competition,
and then like a lawn games competition
that had some food available to us,
and then if you wanted to,
you could play around to golf after.
A couple shoddies.
A couple years ago, you had not golfed, right?
You weren't a golfer, and now you are?
It's been a while now.
So when I started in the USFL is when I started golf.
So it was like 20, 21 now.
So it's been, I don't have any excuses anymore.
It's been five years.
Yeah, but now.
So the kicker,
in football, more free time than kicker when you're playing soccer.
Like, you didn't have time to golf in the old days.
Yeah, but.
There's no, no one does it.
Like, that's not really a thought to, you know, let's go golf.
And whereas football, I feel like everyone kind of golf is, like at least the
quarterbacks and kickers and now tight ends and whatnot.
I feel like it's just such a thing to do for football players because there's such a
long off season.
Football, quarterbacks, tight-ins,
kickers, punters, maybe
the cool guys.
Offensive tackles.
No, all right.
But, no, the difference is he's got
a contract now, right?
You don't, well, putting a ton
of time into golf when you're, like, on
the edge of a roster and you're in
camp, I don't know if that's the best look in the world.
But now, camp is much
different for you now.
Yes, much less stressful.
And you're in California?
and the swing of the thing.
So we've got to get back in a groove with the operation
because, you know, for what it's worth, OTAs are great.
We kind of almost get too polished as an operation,
and then we take, you know, five weeks off and it goes away.
So you've got to start that all over again.
That's right.
Back in the day, he could just get cut.
Dude, the kicker is every morning you wake up.
Could have got cut week 10 last year.
They're bringing other guys in.
Why?
You're like, I'm good.
No big deal.
Dude, you're fine.
Just bringing another guy.
He's cool.
I'm already happy for you for your first sleep at camp.
Oh, my gosh.
I'm so excited for camp.
He's going to do, like, didn't Sean Lee?
We used to hear Sean Lee, who, like, lived on the West Coast.
He would fly home and then.
Fly back to Dallas.
Fly back to Dallas so that he could fly out with the team.
Right.
Like, just leaving earlier.
There might have been somebody who drove, is what I was thinking of.
Brandon's like, I got to leave.
tomorrow actually.
Yeah, they want me there early.
That'd be awesome.
So I heard Shadi say
today we broke people
into eight different platoons
and then they had to do some kind of
problem together. They had to get up and say
four words and then
I wanted to know what was your platoon.
Do you remember? Did you do this?
Nabahi is the
name of my group. It's
native, I don't forget which
tribe, but we have
do you come up with that
Native American in our
No I have an idea he did a rookie
And he offered that up
And guys loved it
It means warrior
So that's what we're running with
Nabahi and yeah
There's just eight of the word
For how many
There's probably like 13 14 of us
And we just kind of go into a room
And we kind of
The job was to lay out words
That we want to
Live by
and be able to
hold ourselves accountable by throughout the season.
So if, you know, we're not living up to that standard.
We're kind of setting a standard for our room.
And if you look around at your guy and, you know, he's at practice loafing or doing something
else, you can, and you're expected to turn to him and say, hey, this isn't the standard.
Let's get back to what we're supposed to be doing.
So that's the idea there.
And then we kind of came into the big meeting group with the whole team and shared what we
came up with and then you collaborate and see kind of what the whole team is feeling.
If there's some shared words there, some shared ideas, and then just kind of a good way to
get to know people that you wouldn't be hanging around in a locker room very often.
So like, you know, if it's not forced on a lot of guys, those interactions won't really happen.
So building relationships that you wouldn't have otherwise.
Without having to go to dinner every time.
Well, that's the key to dinner, too, right?
You're going to dinner with people you wouldn't usually hang out with.
Have you done any of that?
Yeah, so there were a few groups this year that did that,
but I was involved in them.
Last year I got in one.
So that was a good experience.
Got to meet some guys that, you know,
otherwise probably wouldn't have talked to.
He's got a new baby now.
That's why I thought he'd be raising his hand.
I can go to dinner.
Yeah, I'm free.
We played some audio from the dude from BYU.
He's Navajo and he's massive.
He's cool.
The Native American guy?
I think, yeah.
Cool, dude.
So was it awesome when that security guard made that free throw to in practice?
Just tell these guys that's awesome.
Tell them that that's like one of the coolest moments at football pride.
They're like, that was someone's dad.
Rex Burkhead's dad is who it is.
Yeah.
Yeah, I actually wasn't there for that day, sadly.
So that's the day Austin was born.
So I had to skip that one.
But, yeah.
Man, I guess you're not dedicated to the Cowboys.
That was awesome.
Get a contract and feed up.
I just saw a thing like that new, they have a new quarterback.
There's a series on Netflix called Quarterback.
And they were the thing how Joe Flacco, it was like his fourth or fifth kid.
But Joe Flacco had already just talked it out with his wife.
He wouldn't be, he's like, I got a game today.
I'm just going to go.
It was a regular season game, too.
It wasn't like an important game.
It's number five.
Right.
And so he had decided.
And then, but I guess she had the kid like at 11 a.m.
And he got to the game.
Okay.
There we go.
Sorry you couldn't get out of that.
No, I know.
She had a C-section, right?
So you had a night at home alone.
No, no, I was there.
Oh, you stayed in a hotel.
Oh, that's because you have, I have a great excuse.
my
me and my wife are from Ohio
so our in-laws
were in Ohio
I mean all the grandparents
are in Ohio
you had someone
to watch your kid
I had to go home
with daughter number one
to watch her
and it caused a fight
you want to hear about this
and I'll let you go
it's a
it caused a fight weeks later
because
so the night
my second daughter was born
I used to stay up really late
like how you would
stay up late to watch soccer.
I'd stay up late just to play Tiger Woods golf.
And I would like to wake up like at 11 or noon on the weekend.
And so I knew my daughter liked to wake up, you know, at like 6.30.
So I called our babysitter and I said, hey, why don't you get over here by 6?
You can wake her up and just do the breakfast stuff.
And then I'll roll out of bed whenever I roll out of bed, you know.
And my wife didn't find out that I did that for like three weeks until she had
the babysitter come by.
And she was like, oh, yeah, I was here the day after.
Yeah, and she got very mad at me.
Yeah, that's complicated on a number of levels.
But my job was to make sure the kid got up and got fed.
I did that.
You did.
And you also got in.
I just paid someone else to do it.
You also got in 36 playing Tiger Woods with your buddy online.
Do you know how fun Tiger Woods golf was back in the day?
No, Brandon, they got their golf game.
We play golf every.
every time we get to in the locker room, the specialist, that's for sure.
It's awesome.
But I'm more concerned about having a female at house at that hour without wife's knowledge.
There's that angle.
Yeah, that's true.
She's not even worried about that with Dan.
I understand my Riz is off the charts.
No, but, yeah, I was, look, I was asleep.
Anyway, good time.
We're going to camp.
Yeah.
When are you going to camp?
I see you all out there.
I heard Blake's got a fun game prepared for me.
I'm working on it.
We're working on it.
It's looking good.
I don't know what that means.
You'll find out.
When are you going?
We're the 27th, I think.
Yeah, the chart is on the 27th.
Dang.
Is that next week?
Week a half.
Okay.
11 days?
Who's counting?
right? Who's counting? All right, man.
Good luck. I hope you make the team.
Yeah.
We'll see you out.
We'll buy your burrito.
There he is, folks. Our good friend,
I appreciate you guys.
Bye, Brandon.
Good dude. That is brought just by Community Mechanical. Don't forget
CommunityDFW.com.
They hooked up Brandon Aubrey. They'll hook you up too.
Get that preventative maintenance.
How about a break?
Please.
The thumbs are,
Dums are.
Frank.
This is a safe place.
It's a place where we can
feel free sharing our feelings.
Think of my office as a nest in a tree of trust and understanding.
We can say anything here.
Anything.
It's OK, honey.
That's why we came.
Well, I guess I'm, deep down, I'm feeling a little confused.
I mean, suddenly you get married and you're
supposed to be this entirely different guy.
I don't feel different.
I mean, take yesterday, for example, we
We were out at the Olive Garden for dinner, which was lovely.
And I happened to look over at a certain point during the meal
and see a waitress taking an order.
And I found myself wondering what color her underpants might be,
her panties.
Odds are they're probably basic white cotton underpants.
But I started thinking, well, maybe there's silk.
panties. Maybe it's
a thong. Maybe it's a
maybe it's something
really cool that I don't even know
about, you know? And I
started feeling
what?
What? I thought we were in the trust tree with
in the nest. Are we not?
You're listening to the Dumb Zone.
Let's
remind you that we have a Dumb Zone
Comedy Night.
We don't really know what it's
what it's going to be like. We know we're going to have some
Like we booked funny comedians to be there.
So it'll be like a good time.
It's like an early evening thing.
It is Saturday, July 25th.
It starts at 5.
It's like an hour and a half long.
So it's not that huge of a deal.
It's the first time we're going to do,
we think we're going to do more than one of these.
This is the first one.
So if you want to be able to tell your grandkids,
that you're at the first one.
I've been living off being at Post Malone's first show for a long time.
That story does not.
numbers for me. So yeah, 15 bucks, 1499. Come spend an evening with us.
Go to, I've been informed that all I need to say here is go to dumbzone.com and go to the
events tab there. That was for the first pitch, but I think this is, it's the same.
Could we just say across the board that we don't have to, that we do a lot of things for comedy
and they're all great. Maybe we don't make logistics part of our comedy.
What location is?
It is it?
What leg is it the way wrong?
He takes improv.
We'll go back to some beer mail.
He just shits on everything we think is funny.
He takes what?
Improval.
Takes imprint classes and...
I thought he said he takes time off.
I'm way more okay with being made fun of for improv than time off.
You guys, you're quick trigger with the time off word.
We got, we were abused for 20 years.
So you're going to do it the other way now.
Let's take every other day off.
Damn it.
It did make me, I am, so I'm flying to Portland today.
I flew from Seattle yesterday.
You should have just stayed.
Yeah, what are you doing?
So dumb.
You could have just got off the plane.
I'm not coming back from camp.
So dumb.
I'm just going to Phoenix.
You're doing your boy's trip?
No.
I got to do the Cowboys Cardinals game.
Oh.
And I didn't want to fly over Phoenix.
I thought you had a reunion at the University of Phoenix.
Collagenian, no?
Thank you.
No.
He wishes he had a degree from the University of Phoenix.
I was going to say.
I would take it.
He's got a degree of life.
No doubt.
Streets are hard enough.
All right, so we went a little long with Brandon Aubrey, but Brandon Aubrey's great, so always go along with him.
So I'm going to hold off personally on my viewer mail.
Someone sent me a fantastic breakdown of the recent Dickies Arena Dude Purrard.
Oh, yeah. I got one of those two.
We're going to get that next week.
I'm just going to have to save it.
But I will lead off with, I'm going to read you some.
Max in Denver is, I think, working at perhaps, or something, he's got a soccer camp going on.
And he wanted Jake to hear the names.
Oh, wait.
He says he wants a Blake name rating on these.
Okay.
What?
Anyway, so here we go.
Soccer camp.
Axel.
Boy.
Ulysses.
That's hard.
Kind of is.
I think that's kick-ass?
Yeah.
I don't know.
Tricky on nicknames.
What do you call them?
Right.
Uly.
You got Graham, as in McDowell, spelled the same way.
G-R-A-E-M-R-A-E-M.
G-A-E-L.
G-A-E-L.
Somebody was a breaking bad man.
G-A-E-L?
Gaylick
That's what that is
A girl named Brynly
B-R-N-L-E-E-Y
Yep
K-L-Y-E-L-Y-N
Taylin
T-A-L-Y-N
I think Taylan might have been
the first one I saw
that started this bit
Like because I had been doing like jokes
Right
It'll be J-Lan
Brailing
K-Lan
And never thinking
somebody's going to take
one of those other consonants
For not using
Like
we weren't doing Zaylan
All right, now I'm going to give you all boys.
Okay.
Talon, T-A-L-O-N.
Jeez, dude.
Ledger.
Okay, you saw Batman.
Trapper.
Or broke back Mountain.
Dude, Trapper's kind of cool.
It's a human.
I know.
You're name him Trapper?
Yeah, but it's like naming the kid.
King James.
All right.
And finally, Swayzy.
Oh.
S-W-A-Y-Z.
I think that's great.
I think when Dan knocks up his, what's her name?
Jordan Hudson.
Jordan Hudson.
I'm going to say Jennifer Hudson.
Her Jordan Hudson, then Swayze is a name I could see.
Absolutely.
In the mix.
That was from Max and Denver?
Yeah.
I have a Max and Denver email I'm going to save too then.
I just wanted to know I will read it because he's got some thoughts on teaching speed.
And I thought those were interesting.
Here's one from Shane in Colleyville.
In the house I currently live in, my bedroom is upstairs.
The bathroom is downstairs.
Sometimes when I'm watching TV or wake up in the middle of the night, I have to piss.
There's a window with no screen right by the foot of my bed.
So what I've been doing is sitting on the edge of the bed using my piss bottle and then dumping it out that window.
Awesome.
What do you think?
Too far?
I feel both disgusting.
and extremely self-satisfied
every time I do this.
Yeah, you don't want to fight stairs.
Why is this guy asking you, though?
Of course, you're going to be like, yeah, way to go, dude.
You see a problem with this?
It feels very medieval,
but I do like it.
Let's say you had no bathroom up here.
You'd walk up and down the stairs just to pee?
What if you had this nice bottle right here?
Well, then he dumps it out the window.
Wouldn't you then just save it,
walk it down somewhere.
You don't want to save it.
You want to get rid of it as quick as you can.
Trust me.
That negates the point of having it in the bedroom.
She's also there looking at it too.
Andrew has a WHL from the World Cup, a quickie.
What about at the anthem?
Please stand if you are able.
And then please remain standing if you are able.
Like it's implied.
Did we really have to take care of the people?
Standing there, yeah, saying it the first time.
But yes, even the.
the first one is probably a WHL.
So he says they used to, the graphic forever,
and the colloquialism forever has been, you know,
a team got a red card, they're down to 10 men.
It says 10 players now on the Fox broadcast.
Not really?
Yeah.
Why did guys only have to remove their hats?
It's a good question.
I never understood that.
I thought we brought equality.
Unless you're in the military, then you don't have to remove your hat.
Um, let's see here.
I got a couple movie tropes.
Okay.
The first one, dear sex men.
You know, in some movies, the guy's trying to hide smoking cigarettes from his wife,
but whenever she unexpectedly walks in, he just waves his hand twice at the smoke.
Look at his cigarettes, you're going to know about that a month later.
Oh, my gosh, yeah.
That's why he got to wear the smoking glove.
That's from Rick who says, make it shake.
I wore a smoking glove when I was in the stage that Nora was in
where Brandon and Austin are in right now.
Midnight to 2 a.m.
I put on the smoking the cigarette glove.
Another one, this one from Dustin, he says,
walking up to someone's house unexpectedly,
and that person meets you on the front porch as you walk up the sidewalk.
They've been looking out the window just waiting for someone to walk up to their house.
He says, see Armageddon.
Oh yeah
That's a great scene
I cry when I see that scene folks
I got some big
You know
I don't think we
I don't have any gummy thoughts today
But I do know that Early Bird CBD
Has their gummies
Earlybirdcbdcbdcom
You can use the promo code
DZ20
So these are the best gummies
Because they have THC in them
Just a little bit
But just enough to get you
Over that hump
a tough day.
How about two and a half milligrams of THC?
And how about this?
They now have drops.
That is the water soluble tincture.
I've never used the word tincture in anything but a early bird CBD spot.
Have you ever said tincture?
I've never said it in anything not related to THC.
Is that what it's all about?
It's just THC?
You could use it for other things.
A little droplet.
of other, but that's all you need to use it for.
This tincture has a feel-good balance of THC and CBD.
So make sure you check out the drops,
because you just drop in your water,
just, hey, you know how you're watching them ladies
walk around the neighborhood at night
with their little Yeties,
and you're like, oh, they got a little something in there?
Well, why don't you have a little something in there, too?
A little earlybird CBD.com.
The promo code is DZ20.
I have a gummy thought for you.
Our friend Sarah Heppala sent me an article in the Atlantic.
No way.
She didn't send me one from Outkick.com or I don't know.
But the article in the Atlantic, it's a cover story this month about the end of reading.
I've heard about that.
I want to read that.
So good.
And there's a bunch of offshoots to it that I thought were really interesting.
Maybe we'll have her on and talk about it.
But she's like, I'll send it to the smart one.
And I just replied, like, show me or no.
But there's a funny, there's a funny note in here that made me think.
Because they're examining how much more literate America used to be and that we used to be very proud of this fact.
Like we were much more literate than the rest of the world, like the average American, like the late 1700s, early 1800s.
We had blown past the rest of the world.
and they look at, you know, the writing of soldiers.
For example, in the Civil War, just a regular-ass guy.
This is just a regular guy in the volunteer infantry, writing to his wife.
Tis hard to lie down covered with your own gore on a battlefield and die.
Tis hard to see the mighty prancing warhorse trampling the dying and dead beneath their merciless feet.
No dear wife.
nowhere to speak a word of comfort
no living sister or mother to administer relief in that hour
the most sad in the history of humanity
oh the humanity oh the horrors of war
and it got me to thinking
like I read that book The Guns of August
and it's mostly just about World War I
and it's largely like a lot of history is constructed
out of guys' letters to their wives
and it got me to thinking like
I've gassed up how hard something was on the road before
whenever I was having to tell my wife about it
maybe like a lot of these wars weren't near as bad as we think they were
right but I'm still gone
but you're still gone you don't want to go home
your wife's bitching at you so you're like
I got to tell her this is really bad
so like maybe a bunch of these guys
have just been for hundreds of years getting together
and being like tell them everyone's tell them that
it's so bad everyone's dead
Because that sounds like when I write my wife a text or something from training camp in California.
You have it's coming out here twice a day.
I mean, it's not all fun.
I mean, we're here to do a show.
It's not saying.
First we do our show, and then we have to go to practice,
and then we interview players, we've got to cut up the audio.
It's like you're on all the time.
Yeah, and then we're out at dinner.
You know, I like to just sit and eat at home early, and these guys are going out late.
War might not be that bad as I'm telling you.
Pay $50 for oysters.
We're still hungry.
I ate sand
Jake brought us to sand our us
Early bird CBD
This could be my last one
But I will throw you
It's got a photo attached
Patrick was behind a vehicle
In Arlington
And here's the photo
Did I put it in there? I think I did
A viewer mail photo
Of a license plate
He says
is this possible that he drives a truck with a Cowboys-themed,
a personalized plate, or is this someone else?
So if you can see that plate, he's behind a truck that says Jerry Jr.
Now it is a Ford, which I promise you that's what he's driving around.
Yeah, they have a deal.
I know that Grafine Ford, my buddy Chaz, has,
gotten them vehicle, like they did a trade deal with them.
Or part of their advertising deal, right?
Yeah.
At least Garrett used to drive one.
Well.
And maybe one of the Jones, yeah.
Maybe this is based on...
They do love their forge.
Gordon caricatures.
But I think even if I left that totally aside,
Jerry Jr. is the one that I would think would have his own.
Yeah, definitely.
Like, Steven's like, people know who I am.
I'm a big deal.
But Jerry Jr. might need a little sauce.
All right, this guy's got a couple other things here.
Patrick, movie trope.
Dad buys a house for his family, the others haven't seen it.
The first time they do see it is when they arrive with the moving trucks.
Wife is always like, oh, Bill, it's perfect, etc.
I keep my own room?
Can you imagine a scenario in which someone would do this in real life?
And have it well received by their significant other.
He says, see Beetlejuice, Pet Cemetery, and The Office,
as examples.
Hell, the shiny.
He has another PS,
Swine Line submission,
Anna Nicole Smith.
Definitely. If we haven't done that yet,
that's from Mount Rushmore.
She might have had actual pig blood in her.
My leaders are Jake's vast
yet predominantly mispronounced vocabulary,
Dan standing on business against his wife
over simple social niceties,
and Austin Green,
the drummer for George band,
son of Stan, which makes him
the Beatles' drummers drummer.
Never punt instead
establish the Bean Flicker
offense.
From Patrick.
It makes him the Beatles, drummers,
drummer's drummer. The Beatles'
drummer's drummer. Oh yeah, the Beatles
drummer's drummer is George.
Right. Right. Sorry.
Those are good ones.
End it. Oh, okay.
That's
viewer mail. The Thursday
Viewer Mail, follow-up, extravaganza, inclement fossil thing.
Everything else.
Everything else is long.
Let's go to the news, brought to us by the Frankl.
And the Frankl.
Frankl and Frankl, personal injury attorneys.
We know them.
We love them.
We hope you never really have to talk to him.
Actually, I take that back.
I hope you do so that they can get you,
what you deserve.
Now, it means you might have to be in a horrific accident in order to talk to them.
Or if you get lucky, it's just one of your loved ones can be in that accident.
And then you could talk to the Frankles.
A family friend.
Yeah.
So it's 214 or 817 in all threes.
They are personal injury attorneys.
They are local.
They have helped out tons of people in the DFW area.
They know the law back and forth.
They used to work for the insurance companies so they know the tricks that they'll use.
In fact, that's one of the reasons they left that gig was because of, they did not feel,
they felt icky inside to be working for this side.
So they went to the good team, you know, representing the little guy.
And that could be you if indeed you are in a situation where you need a personal injury attorney.
Don't forget the Frankles 214 or 817.
and then dial all threes.
Here's Jane with the Dumb Zone News.
All right, let's see here.
We are going to start with a type of warning
that I did not know existed.
We'll go out Laredo Way.
And Laredo, the police department issued a B-Swarm Advisory.
Wow.
because late on Monday afternoon
three people were attacked, treated, and taken to a hospital
after a bee swarm
had, I guess, gotten loose.
A 78-year-old man, 43-year-old man, an elderly woman.
They say the 78-year-old man was stung more than 100 times.
Why are you laughing?
That sounds fucking terrible.
It's like a grandfather with a swarm of bees, like following him?
Yeah, but you don't know his history.
Yeah, he's racist.
That is, I mean, it's very unlikely that the guy was, like, had opinions he'd love, but I don't, yeah.
Maybe it's like the Black Mirror thing.
Do you ever watch the B episode?
It's like the most famous episode?
Probably not.
I bailed on that show when my life started getting worse and worse and worse.
I don't know.
I just, it made me.
Is it like watching a star?
a star is born.
Yeah, but
I don't know.
That show eventually just felt too
real, right?
It did feel real.
Too real, too sad.
Right, it was about the eradication of bees
and then because they always do say
bees are so important to the environment,
they had to make synthetic bees,
but somehow, you know,
if the wrong hands can take control
of those synthetic bees, well, now you've got yourself
hilarity ensued.
I was going to say, what?
dancing bees? Who knows?
Killer bees. They'd be swarming a 70-year-old man who,
I think part of it was something to do with social, you know.
If you made fun of people on social media or something,
they'd send the bees after you to kill you.
So they, I guess the fire department shows up and like,
here's some epipens. I'm not real sure what we want you to do.
But they said that this 7-year-old guy,
a 78-year-old guy, the quote from the person nearby was,
he had a lot of bees around him.
He had a white shirt on, his shirt looked black.
It was full of bees.
How's he doing?
He's in the hospital, but he expected to make it.
But it was stung more than 100 times.
They had to get a professional beekeeper to take care of the hive.
Locally, we had the guy in Keller was arrested, given a DUI.
I always like this
What Makes the News Line
Because
I think I'm probably
Over it now
Once you work at the ticket
If you get a DUI
It's probably going to end up on
DallasNews.com, right?
Like if you get a DUI now
Yeah
Well now for sure
Because they've written about me
And sobriety
Oh
Oh yeah
That will follow up to the story
Right you're not supposed to do that
Don't get an A
That would be hilarious.
Then we go interview those people, whose lives you change.
I just thought, like, why not go back?
I heard Bleak talking about it.
But, like, if you're a cop and you get a DUI or you hit your wife, that's going to be in the news.
If you are, if you worked at, like, just a random company, like a competing roofing company that hired Nairdewells or something than Qualis, you're not in the news.
the Keller High School Band Director
was arrested by Collieville Police last night
and booked on a DUI.
I mean, it's going to make news in Keller and Collieville.
Just a teacher?
If a teacher gets a D.
Like, I just feel like their job.
Do you think the fact that he's the band director makes it?
Yes.
Okay.
And I think the coach as well.
I think it like any sort of little extra thing
that they can tag on.
to make it sound, it seems to me like, oh, they had even more responsibility.
These are the people.
But you don't make enough money to me to have your shit wrecked publicly over something like this.
Tons of people get DUIs, right?
And they have more important, more high profile and higher compensated jobs, a band director.
Like, I don't think making 50K to do this job means your mugshot where this guy looks like shit.
They're in charge of our children.
I mean, yeah, that is what it is, but I just...
It drinks alcohol.
Yeah.
A man and his dog drowned in the country lakes area of Denton yesterday.
And the dog.
Yeah.
So we don't know the details, but I'd like to think...
Let's make some up.
That he was trying to save the dog or the dog was trying to save him.
Either way, it's...
I like it.
I was thinking they were in a boat and just...
capsized.
Or that the dog was tubing behind the boat and somehow.
Have you ever seen a dog tube?
Yes.
Yeah?
I have.
Not just on the internet?
No, I've seen a...
Not the monkey water skiing?
No, I've seen a small dog on it.
There was a person on it with it, but they're still sitting there, you know.
Dog looked like Spud McKenzie.
I think we put our dog...
I know we put old Cornelius.
in the pool.
Dog in the pool is fun, man.
You know what's not?
Can be a problem, though.
When you have one of those dogs that just jumps in the pool,
like Uncle Gary had that, my neighbor has one.
My brother's dog.
Shaft, the one that never got fixed and got yurped off at Tulane.
He was, I think you're probably about to say what we dealt with.
Yeah, it's a beating because then, yeah, you go outside and the dog's like,
I'm going to jump in the pool, and then you've got to gogs and walk inside.
Yeah, and they think you think it's cool.
It's just going to now go walk in the flower bed, and now it's all mud.
Now to get him to clean off, you've got to throw him in the pool.
Now there's mud in the pool.
Well, here's the other problem.
And then he's back in the house?
We had the pool.
My mom and stepdad's pool was the – it got deeper.
You couldn't really, like, play volleyball, for example, right?
It started out at two feet and quickly it was five feet, six feet.
But, you know, people would throw stuff.
into the pool and if there was anything on the bottom of the pool
the dog dove. The dog would
dive to the bottom of the pool. That's impressive.
And did not know that it,
you know, it's not thinking my ears are popping.
But the dog is in the pool
all the time. Your dog is going to have ear infections
constantly. Just constantly.
Because they're not knocking water out of their head
like a, you know, a responsible
human might.
And then
I feel like this has to be our top
story. Daylight
savings time.
Oh, yeah.
That should have been, this could have been outside the news.
Are we actually doing it?
I always thought they always pass it in the House and then the Senate rejects it.
Yeah.
But I guess these days, if Trump says I want it done, it'll just get done, right?
Yeah.
In general.
So.
I don't know why this time feels different, but it must just be Trump.
Because everyone I'm seeing talking about this is acting as if this is going.
going to happen.
What I've read, too, is that by supposed, you know, science people, you actually don't
want daylight savings time.
You want standard.
Yes.
So if you enact savings time year round, it's going to cause, like, big, like, time in
the winter that you'll actually, daylight won't start until, like, 8.45 or something?
Well, for example, where I was yesterday, the latest sunrise of the year in Seattle would be
857.
Yeah, that seems pretty bad.
The latest sunrise of the year in Detroit,
where you've got to figure there's just a butt ton of blue collar labor going on.
That'll start at 901.
Places you don't care about, like Bismarck, North Dakota, 928.
What would the negatives be if you just had standard time?
Is there a...
What did you say, Clayton?
Because right now we're in daylight savings time, right?
Yeah.
So it would be darker in the evening earlier,
and that's the problem with people in the summer, right?
You want it to be light longer.
Correct.
That sounds right.
But still, it's still pretty light.
Yeah, I don't know.
I would like it to be the same all the time
because I just don't like those two times a year
that slightly inconveniences me.
I don't like it either.
I'm getting better at convincing myself, like,
here's for the guy who
how busy I am guy
I was thinking of that you know that line
in saving Silverman this is for Blake and Clayton
maybe Henry when Jack
Black picks up the nachos and he says
when you you know when you pick
it up if they all stick together it's one
nacho that's how I felt
about the day yesterday because I never
really acknowledged that I was on the next
day I never went to sleep
so then I just
was always on the same day
I never had a night I never was like
like, oh, it's nighttime now. I was on a plane, and I was awake, and then when I got out of the
plane, it was light time still, you know? So my point is, I'm less affected by daylight savings
time now than I used to be, but it jams my kids up real bad. Like, you can tell they're being
hos around that time. But the main thing is that we've already tried this. I'm sure you've
heard this, but we did this in the early 70s.
Yes.
And the plan was to do it for like two years and report back.
And we made it one change.
We made it like four months.
And then they went back to Congress and voted 383 to 16 to change it back in an emergency.
So their constituents were loud.
Literally everyone in the country, no matter what part of the country was like, bah, we were wrong.
We don't like this.
We don't like this.
So daylight, we don't, we do want constant.
we just don't want daylight savings.
You would have, yeah, earlier summer, sunsets, late evening businesses, I guess.
Evening businesses would have less sun, but...
Your ice cream shop.
When did politicians become so corny?
First of all, they named it the Sunshine Protection Act.
That's not good.
And then, I don't know this guy's name.
Scott Desjarlays from Tennessee, who presided over the vote on the house floor,
started playing the Beatles song, Here Comes the Sun as he read the final tally.
Copyright infringement.
Yeah, it's really bad.
But again, remember, we've got that guy in Plano, Jeff Leach,
wearing a football helmet for Tony Romo Day when they commemorated him in the Texas house.
Nerd.
Anyways, there's a news.
Oh, you're muted because.

And of course, Sarah Hepha's tornado shelters.
It's regionally appropriate.
I like it.
Movie trope, when our hero is broken down on a highway, a semi arrives over the horizon miles away.
Immediately starts honking, but makes no attempt to slow down or to stop, so our hero barely escapes getting hit.
Yeah.
I like that one.
I saw a lot of hitchhikers in Hawaii.
I thought about it.
I bet you that's a robust.
trusted system because, you know, they're all locals.
They're helping each other.
I don't know.
Do you feel like recreating chappie driving around with you and Joe and picking one up?
Or Blake.
More Dutch, less manosphere idiots.
Hogout.
Only punt if Kevin Kelly sends express written consent on dot matrix paper sent through the USPS.
This is your best Arkansas subby, Chad.
He said also, yes.
Small Town, Arkansas has a 9-11 memorial that is a replica of the Twin Towers.
Google Mountain Home Veterans Memorial, if curious.
Hi, boys, I have two birthday requests.
One next Thursday, one today.
It is my birthday.
Ryan and San Antonio.
My drop request is the Tongan Minute because I grew up in Ulyss.
My leader is every time the name Jeremy, be it Giambi, Piven, or Shockey comes up on the show.
Blake, without fail, repeats it in Dr. Laura voice.
Jeremy.
That is from Ryan.
And maybe we'll give you that Tongan minute tomorrow.
Because we have to move on to Dear Uncle Cockmogger.
God.
It is my Kemba Walker on the Mavs birthday.
What an era.
Last year, I submitted my expert opinion on how the Luca trade and a family member dying felt pretty much the same,
and then proceeded to get dead parent-mogged for the few days after that.
My leader is Dan asserting his dominance over Blake.
Oh, I'm sorry.
Dan asserting his dominance over Blake Clayton and Henry
because the roast twins robbed him of that opportunity years ago.
Swine line, Allison Janet.
I think he means Allison Janney.
That's a no.
And movie trope submission, a gun getting jam,
seemingly unable to unjam later in the most tense of moments.
That's from Brandon Bolin.
Good dude.
And my last shout out is from Alexa Silvers in the chat.
she emails this.
I don't know what this means.
Maybe you can help me, Clayton.
Because she has not sent me an email before this,
but she writes two weeks, exclamation point.
We've been asking for a shoutout for two weeks, exclamation point.
What do I got to do?
Roller bones over there and you'll dig up a shout-out.
W-O-M.
Whom.
Which is, aka Cynthia's mom, passed away a few weeks ago,
and the F-O-D chant would like to.
to send her a giant hug and dumbness.
We love you, Cynthia.
Has she been asking for this?
And we haven't delivered it to her?
What's the problem, Clayton?
Why is Alexa yelling at us?
Silence.
That's what we get, Alexa.
That's what we get.
Very sorry to hear about your mom.
Unless you didn't like her.
Then we're, yeah, congratulations.
Nobody ever does that.
Fairlees.org presents.
I'm going to start.
On this day in history.
I think I said that on Ijv, but.
Not to you guys, but we were walking on some trail and the kids were fighting, right?
It was one of the things we made him do where I'm looking around like, why did she think a seven and three-year-old needed to bite this off today?
But they're bitching at each other.
It wasn't the Chisholm trail, was it?
It was not the Chisham Trail.
That's how they were created.
But they're bitching, fighting.
I hate you to each other.
And some guy comes down, hey, doesn't get me better when they get older.
I mean, tell you.
And I told T.C. that I'm going to start saying, no, we know.
We had an 18-year-old Jamie.
He was killed by a roadside bomb.
Oh.
So the next time somebody's like, oh, man, sorry to hear about your mom.
She was a bitch.
It's all good, dude.
How about the, uh, maybe something about your little girl and the boys after her.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, we've learned that the hard way, didn't we?
Yeah.
You may have heard about it on the news.
Anyway, fairlease.org, yes, sponsors today's edition of Today in History.
We already mentioned earlier, Brandon Aubrey, the newest member of the Fair Lease family.
As they have leased a vehicle there, many businesses that we are associated with have done so as well.
I guess that's a great deal.
They actually bought Travis out of his D&M lease.
They had such a good deal for them.
Write that thing off. Unlimited mileage on the commercial leases.
They also have a dedicated dumb zone phone number at Fairlease.
It's 972-705-4815.
And the website, Dan, is Fairlease.org.
It's Thursday, July 16th on this day in 1935 in Oklahoma City.
Is that where you were yesterday?
Briefly, yeah.
The first automated parking meter was installed.
So that was great.
Give it to old William D.C.
Tate.
Al.
Says not on my watch.
And they're like, all right, we'll name every street after you.
You can be mayor forever then.
Yeah.
But yeah, they will not.
That's what he's claimed.
To keep grapevine, you know,
the Christmas capital of the world and a tourist destination,
there will not be paid for parking.
What's more of a beating than that?
When you go to some city, you don't know,
and now you've got to, like, download their app.
It's like this, the Rangers.
thing. Same thing. Now I got to get another app.
Or I guess it would be like the Rangers thing, if the Rangers thing had an app.
Yeah. Again, a good point. On this day in 1969, it's when Apollo 11 blasted off from
Cape Kennedy on the first manned mission to the surface of the moon. Dick. On this day in
1985, Lou Whitaker, the Detroit Tiger's second baseman, it says here forgot to bring his
uniform. I think his, I think the story was like he left it in his car or something.
He didn't have his uniform when he went to the All-Star game in Minneapolis.
Like, somehow they had to travel with their own uniforms, which apparently we've now
dumbed down, we've babyed these professional athletes so much that's like, oh, I won't,
can you believe back in 1985 they actually had to bring their own uniform?
What a, what a terrible life that Lou Whitaker lived.
I know.
And Blake, I mean, now it's, you got a guy who's your wallet guy.
That's how much they baby them.
Boy, we didn't get too deep into it.
Somebody is hating their life over those passports right now.
Dude.
There's a guy, 27, 28-year-old guy.
He's just trying to get George Pickens' passport done.
But they will be able to get it done.
They will be able to get it done as we saw with the Dallas Stars.
Yeah.
They all have like a political connection.
Sure.
And they will call that guy.
They're not getting detained in Zimbabwe.
And get a favor.
Yes.
So.
Anyway, Lou Whitaker ended up having to wear a uniform that was like they would sell jerseys at the stands, you know, or in the pro shop.
So they got a blank Tigers jersey.
and stenciled the number one on the back,
and Lou Whitaker wore that for the game.
That's kind of awesome.
Get yourself a Bob's mom jersey.
This is the day in 1999 that JFK Jr. went down on gay head.
Norm was on the phone.
That's right.
His plane crashed, single-engine plane crashed near Martha's Vineyard.
Or did it?
I remember my mom's friend Rose was pretty certain.
He was going to be in Dealey Plaza earlier this year.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Didn't we learn and then debunk and then go with the theory that this was because of shrimp?
Clayton introduced that to us.
Like that was one of the rumors is that they had like dry ice on board.
Oh, like the Pink Stewart.
Those paint Stewart.
Shrimp cocktail.
Oh, it was, okay.
Yeah.
Oh, I thought you're saying.
Okay.
I thought that was, my bad.
He was just doing those dives.
Brett Bratner was on board.
He's back.
On this day in 2004, Martha Stewart sentenced to five months in prison.
Possible swine line.
And five months of home confinement.
Oh, could you imagine getting that?
I can't go.
I was sentenced to home confinement.
God.
And imagine in her home.
It's probably awesome.
She probably owns like five different homes
and has one of those gerbil things you can get to each home in.
Two famous weddings on this date in 1988.
Janet Jones marries Wayne Gretzky.
And in 1994, Anna Nicole Smith married billionaire Jay Howard Marshall.
He was 89.
28?
24.
Let's meet in the middle.
She was 26.
Janet Jones, if you'll allow me.
I feel like I do this pretty much every year.
year, but Janet Jones was the subject of a gambling investigation when Gretzky was with Phoenix.
I think he was like maybe in the front office at that point.
So she was, she got like hemmed up in that.
And the operation, Operation Slapshot.
Nice.
Yeah.
Very good.
Very good work by the feds there.
Much better than the sunshine protection.
or whatever.
Yeah, that's on the list.
This also has a Dan spin next to it.
Who?
Jana Jones.
I don't think it's her, but it might be.
Oh, another one?
No, this is her.
Okay.
What, the plexiglass falling on her head?
Yeah.
She knocked unconscious,
taken off on a stretcher,
and Wayne Gretzky finished playing the game.
Didn't go to the hospital.
Just saw his wife get knocked unconscious.
Yeah.
Dude, I had...
We're down 2-1.
I'm Wayne Gretzky.
I think he had, like, 30 more seconds of ice time the rest of the...
It doesn't matter.
The team needs me out here.
Dude, I had...
You know when you're walking around, like, a hotel resort?
I mean, I say you know, and this is a very specific thing.
But at, like, tropical hotel resort type places...
You know when your driver doesn't bring your car?
I was going to say, yeah.
But you could be...
I mean, it doesn't have...
They have all these, like, they're not all palm trees, but they have these huge ass.
Some of them are like banana trees, I gather.
Just big-ass trees with big leaves.
Heavy leaves.
And we're walking around at the Disney Resort, and I was not really paying attention.
And I hear a sound, and I look up, and had I been about a second earlier, I am knocked unconscious by something that fell from one of these trees.
like a huge dead
coconut
it wasn't a coconut
but you know that banana trees
have those just big ass leaves
and when they die
they turn brown
and they get real heavy
and then eventually
they fall off the tree
you could have got amnesia
dude the first thing
my wife said
was imagine how paid we'd be
I know
and Nora was like shook
because it felt
dude it crashed
people around were like
and my wife would be like
oh my gosh
I feel so bad
bad for, it's just Kristen, I feel worse for Kristen than Jake.
Yeah, she had, she could witness that.
I was like, dude, I, this thing, I'm going to show you what this would look like.
Kristen's going through more problems.
And then, yes, as she's like, we're spending so much money here.
You think you could have chipped in a little bit by getting knocked to find.
She's not wrong.
What do we?
Do you love your family or not?
Apparently, I was a second show.
Yeah, it would have been.
Bodycast.
Would you guys let me keep doing the show?
show if I had to go full Stephen Hawking.
In her scenario, you're not dead.
Don't you guys.
I don't even get it done.
You know I'd pick like a black voice, though, and just have an excuse.
That'd be tough to call you on that, yeah.
July 16th, this day in Dumb Zone history.
In 2020, Dan played some audio of, I believe he was in Denver.
But the Denver traffic guy was accidentally recorded.
himself watching porn at work.
Oh.
So you can hear him
clicking around and grunting and then
you're going to want to avoid the 805
today, there's congestion in.
One of my favorite genres
of social media video is
Grandpa's porn accidentally shows up
on the family TV.
I did see that.
Like it'll happen around holidays or
whatever, but you're trying to get the family
pictures up there or something.
It's just like some, like a old, it seems like it's usually like an old ethnic guy.
It's some old Mexican guy.
You ever hear how the Browns did that?
Yes, dude.
I read that article once we started talking about Jimmy Haslam and the bucks.
They were searching for something that had to do with the dog pound, and they searched DP.
Yeah, but it was even worse.
And then a bunch of pictures came up.
tweets going set
like to hashtag db
you know
so was it the
Kaczynski documentary
basically like they can
identify where a person lives by the way
that they talk or write
oh yeah there's a New York
Times quiz that you can do
and it does like slang
in terms like that and
bro they almost had my address
they were like West Fort Worth
I think if you gave me
porn search keywords
I could tell you specifically how old they are
Black fella
Probably, yeah, fella
Yeah, current
You know you might list a porn star
Whatever but the old's is just
White girl, black guy, big dick
Or big boob
Sure
Just big boob
Uh 2021
Jake wants to be the voice of the hacker
And Training videos
I'm gonna get
Dear email.
Are they all talk like that?
We need to make some training videos.
Just make Henry do them?
Yeah.
This did hit me the other day, Blake.
Henry has access to some of our social media now.
Uh-huh.
He's the one that's most likely to fall for a fishing scale.
Yeah, I'm not worried about him tweeting anything offensive, but...
I just told him to not slide into any DMs with our account.
That had to be tough for him.
I got like five of those birthday emails this weekend.
Oh, you're invited to.
Julie's birthday.
Yeah.
Punch bowl.
And then in 2024, Charles Haley and Jake Kemp tension.
First time we had him in studio.
Oh, okay, yeah.
Well, he's a dear friend of mine now.
That's right.
Tussled my hair.
You were making fun of his therapy, and I didn't think it was good radio.
I was terrible the way you targeted him.
Yeah, what if I come over there, bust in your mouth?
mouth.
Yeah, won't you try it, man.
I think you can kick Charles Haley's ass these days.
There's no question.
Yeah.
There's no question.
Other birthdays today, Blake Jarwin is 32.
Oklahoma State.
Jimmy Johnson, 83.
For real?
Yeah.
Would not have thought that old, man.
Think he looks pretty good?
Yeah.
Looks better than Jerry.
Aaron Glenn is 54.
I'm afraid he's not long for this profession.
Somebody, and it might be me if I give it enough time,
will convince myself that they're a real pick-to-click this year
because of regression.
Who?
The Jets.
Oh.
Wait, that's Aaron?
Yeah.
Why was I thinking, who's the receiver?
Terry Glenn, who is.
That's who I was thinking of it was all morning.
Terry Glenn, I believe, met his maker.
It might not have been actually where he died,
but he was definitely in a wreck one time,
and what I termed the Cowboy Corridor.
Oh, that's right.
114, right?
Yeah.
14 Northwest Highway.
Correct.
There were about eight cowboy wrecks, arrest, or deaths in a 10-year period on the stretch
that was like South Lake to Las Kalinas.
Terry Glenn also once referred to by Bill Parcelles as what, Dan, do you know?
She?
Yeah.
He would do, he did like a couple months of press.
conference is calling him she.
Just to kind of like...
Say this guy's soft.
Yeah.
He didn't buy that grocery.
He wanted to do the draft.
Right.
He didn't block.
He got overruled when they were drafting.
I know.
She's just going to have to play harder.
Because her name is Terry.
Barry Sanders is 58.
Ask the question again.
Gary Anderson is 67.
You may remember that he didn't miss a field goal in 1998.
I just looked up that Viking season again, dude, because I was swept up in that.
The only game they lost was by a field goal.
And Randall Cunningham, it was his resurgent.
Yeah, they were the greatest show on turf type thing.
Robert Smith.
Chris Mim is 47.
I was a big fan.
Duncanville?
Duncanville was Bonnaker.
Were you into Texas basketball when you were growing up?
No.
No.
Adam Scott is 46, the golfer.
Not Derek.
You guys fired up to have major mic in here tomorrow?
People met it.
Was it Justin Thomas?
Said the F slur.
Okay, yeah.
Not Adam Scott.
Sorry.
Margaret Court is 84.
She is a tennis hall of famer.
And the term that I learned this morning is nominative determinism.
We've talked about this, dude.
Well, I guess I just didn't know the term.
Yeah.
Her name is Margaret Court.
She's a tennis hall of famer.
Nominative determinism is like if your name, did your name help influence what you became, you know?
You know, Frank Cook.
Did he become a chef?
He did not.
He's a guy I lived with in college.
Miguel Indurane is 62.
I believe he is a bicycle racer
known as the Big Mig.
Okay.
Yeah.
Michael Flatley is 68.
Lord of the dance.
There was a time in this country when everybody was stoked on the Lord of the Dance.
Did you know that, Blake?
No.
Dude.
You missed the Lord of the Dance.
You know what's weird is to me, and I don't have any idea how there's any crossover.
It was just the era of friends.
Like in my head, those two things happened at the same time.
They were trying to force friends on me.
How dare you?
And they were trying to tell me that dance was somehow, like, going to be a cool thing when I grew up.
And I'm like, the fuck it will.
Those two are not related.
He knows what I'm talking about.
Definitely are.
Yeah.
So Blake missed that.
Didn't miss this, though.
She's 63.
today, Phoebe Cates.
Oh, yeah.
From Fast Times of Ridgemont High.
Hey, Brad.
Will Ferrell is 59.
Corey Feldman is 55.
Of the two Corrie's.
Larry Sanger is 58, the co-founder of Wikipedia.
Justin Kahn is 43, the co-founder of Twitch.
Everybody's trying to be like Twitch.
Billy Mitchell is 61.
He was featured in the video game documentary, King of Kong.
Why is Donkey Kong called Donkey Kong?
This is a question I was posed yesterday on the plane that I could.
I was like, obviously it relates to King Kong somehow, but why did they go with donkey?
I was like, he's not a donkey.
Yeah, you're right.
Okay, you guys don't know either.
I got no clue.
That's a question for the Japanese.
I would have thought Blake might know that.
Well, his dad is also...
Who's his dad?
Donkey Kong's dead?
I don't know.
I think of Diddy Kong?
Diddy Kong's a little one.
I mean, King Kong, right, is what they're basing it off of, right?
But I don't...
We only had a machine.
I'm not looking this up.
Yeah, but when Mario...
When Luigi gets taken, Mario's got to team up with Peach,
and then they go to the old Kong,
and he says you've got to win Donkey Kong.
Jesse Jane is for...
I just assume that's porn.
She is a porn star.
Real name is Cindy Taylor.
She's from Fort Worth.
How old?
46.
Are you upset that you're not familiar with her game?
Like you might have bagged her back in your day?
No, I'm a little more upset that she died in 2024.
No, she's...
Oh.
She's a dead?
Let's move her.
Probably just natural causes, though, where she was having a good life.
and um well she died at 44 that's too bad accidental overdose of cocaine and fentanyl
died in oklahoma city yeah and more no even worse more Oklahoma
do you have to say accidental overdose is there ever like it's a
yeah you do you do I mean if you leave a note you're like I'm going to take all these drugs
and die I would say that's not an accident okay
dumb zone birthday of the day
Jake, if you know who this is.
Chris Pontius.
If you know who this is.
It's 52.
Especially right now.
I've got your poster.
I forgot it.
Thank you.
Because he made it through, you know.
He's on the good side of things, so he still gets to collect jackass money.
What does that mean?
Well, you know, there's been some fractures.
Like, if you go see the new jackass movie,
Stevo, Johnny Knoxville, and Pontius are essentially narrating and, hey, remember the timing, the whole thing.
But, like, bam.
Bam's not a part of things clearly anymore.
And that was like the whole other side of the crew.
It was like Bam's people were CKY.
And they got hooked up with Knoxville and Steevo and Pontius.
But Pontius and Steevo did Wild Boys, which wild boys is every bit as good as Jackass for a different reason.
But they were actually going out and doing animal stuff.
Do you remember that?
Yeah.
Obviously you do.
But Dan, do you remember they had an offshoot?
Mani was like a.
an old alligator guy
and him and Pontius and Stevo would actually go do
animal only jackass style stuff and it rocked
the funniest poniest thing was when they did
cribs for all the guys once they had made money though right
or a little bit of money so now they're at Bam's house
and he's like look I built a skate park and he's got the half pipe
and they're at Knoxville's place
and then they go to Pontius's
and they just do like the slow motion as he opens up the back of a Toyota Tacoma camper
because he just lives in his truck.
He's like, this is my spot.
Welcome Cribs.
It's where I make potable water.
He's also party boy.
Bunny the lifeguard.
Pony the lifeguard.
He was the guy they would just be naked and be like jacked.
That's why I thought he was kind of spare.
That's a good bit.
The things that man's done to his wiener.
That's because you've never tried to get yourself to have the gumption
to walk into an electronic store wearing nothing but a jock strap.
But I have, and it's not easy.
Yeah, all right.
Born on the Stay Now Dead,
shoeless Joe Jackson, he's today's war leader.
Did he ever just consider like he would be better if he tried it with shoes?
Well, he was really good without.
So he did the Zola Bud.
Dr. Frank Job, Orville Redenbacher, and born in the Stay Now Dead, besides Jesse Jane, Claude Lemieux.
Oops.
Yeah.
Former Dallas Star committed suicide.
Probably not accidental.
Yeah, probably.
But might have been brought along by the introduction.
of the coding product, Claude.
Yeah, just seeing that everywhere and knowing I don't want to be the next Alexa.
Yeah, and this one may be worse.
What if this is the one that brings down society, you know?
And you're like, I don't like that.
I'm going to check out now.
The Canadians want to.
Dead on this day still dead.
You have Robert H. Brooks, the founder of Hooters.
You have Bismarcky.
And Joe Bryant, the father of Kobe.
Pobie
And that's what happened
On this day in history
Man speaking of the Michael Jackson movie
Nora made a friend on the beach
And I was listening to him talk
And the girl was like
Yeah I'm in dance
She's like do you know what the moonwalk is
And the girl kind of tried to start doing the moonwalk on the beach
And then she asked Nora
Do you know who Michael Jackson is?
And I'm like oh wow
Let's find out what they know.
And she, Nora was like, yeah, I do.
She's like, I think he was in a band with his family when he was a kid.
Because my mom will listen to some Jackson 5, and the girl was like, yeah, his dad was real mean to him.
His dad was like really, really mean to him.
And that's why, like, Michael Jackson had to leave his family.
And that's what she knew.
We didn't get to.
And he quite liked little chikes like us.
Yeah, you don't know what they're hearing around the dinner table, you know.
That's why I was sitting there.
This kid looked maybe a little bit older, and I'm like,
are we about to get to learning about photophilia on vacation?
He was an old man who had sex with kids.
No, it was just, yeah, his dad was a real mean guy, old Joe Jackson.
Thanks for having me back, guys.
I'll see you next week.
All right.
Adios, mofo.
We've got to go before this becomes a zoo.
See you guys for drinks later.
