I have another sports apology for you guys.
Okay.
So this is, now, the Romo thing,
I would have seen this eventually, right?
I would have figured this stuff out.
This guy,
I would never have known what,
he did on the radio unless he apologized for it. This is always a funny thing.
He is the Red Sox radio play-by-play guy. His name is Will Fleming.
And he had a Twitter statement which says,
since I have been, excuse me, since I have been receiving nonstop threats,
excuse me, nonstop calls and threats,
I felt like it was important to hop back on here and say,
my comments during yesterday's broadcast crossed the line.
I'm emotional and a fan at heart,
and that bled into the broadcast.
I meant no disrespect to the Yankees, players, or organization.
I could and should have used different words.
These rivalry games get me fired up.
I apologize for letting the emotion of the moment get the best of me.
Blake, you smell that?
No.
It's September.
These boys just love baseball.
So if we are to look over this apology and rate it,
I am making the apology not.
I don't really.
I don't think this is bad at all what I said.
I'm a fan.
I get fired up like every fan does.
What, so I'm, but the first line is since I have been receiving nonstop calls and threats, threats.
So I'm sure this will stop it all, but you certainly have to say them, what could he have done?
Who's giving him threats?
So what we have here is Sunday.
The Yankees are winning like six to one in the eighth.
It might be seven to one.
It doesn't matter.
they would go on to win 16 to 1.
But it's the eighth inning.
Jazz Chisholm was on first base,
and he steals second.
They were not holding him.
And he just stole second.
In fact, I think the record keepers,
a lot of times in those cases,
do not even give a steal.
Defensive indifference?
Yeah.
So he moves to second.
For real?
I didn't know that.
Yeah.
And then you're going to pick it up.
here it's after he has already stolen second they're talking about a different play but then while
they're talking about it he's going to steal third but same thing defensive indifference okay
chisholm's doing it again by the way he does look you're up six it's the eighth the team is
electing not to hold you on that's the white flag right and normally in that situation you don't run
you don't run.
Wouldn't you sort of like to see Moran drill wells right here?
Infield's coming in.
It's just, that's selfish play, right?
That's just padding your stats.
Well, he's the, but guess what?
I mean, it's not even a steal.
Here's the pitch and it's swung on a miss.
I think that's indifference, don't you?
Yeah, it's just, you know, one of the unwritten rules,
like if we're holding you on, sure, if you get a jump, go.
But if I'm going to play behind you at first base,
that's us just saying you just play the game, right?
And normally you don't see guys steal in that situation up six.
Late in the game.
Well, that's who Jazz is.
Yeah.
They'll remember that the pitch outside.
All right, so again, secure possession.
Now he's talking about a play right before where they tried to catch a ball and it hit the ground first.
He was definitely caught in flight.
He did firmly hold it.
But they're going to.
He demonstrated complete control.
I don't know what else you need to hear.
The 3-2 is drilled.
in the right field. It is way back
and it is gone. Yes.
So that's what's very funny.
Listen, buddy, I would
have scored from over here. It don't matter.
But that's the thing that
I never understand. Oh, he can't
go take that second base. Then I'm openly
giving him. Is he
allowed to hit a home run?
Should he just kind of wave at it and say,
let's let this game be over?
I got to tell you. Did anyone ever
pad stats in the
history of this great game?
No, actually, they never did before, you know, these...
Before Jazz Chisholm ran by Abner Doubleday's grave and pissed on it.
Right, but no.
But if you look at Major League history, I mean, it's full of this stuff.
It's full of Stan Musial running the bases backwards when he hit his 100th home run.
That's a real thing.
Ty Cobb, if he was leading the league and hitting with like seven games left,
would not play the rest of the season.
In fact, would go home to Georgia.
Just leave the team.
I'm leading comfortably.
But if I was to play, that might bring my average down.
So he wanted to make sure he led the league.
Bush League.
Just saying, Major League Baseball is full of stat padding and bit padding and like used to Jeff Frye with the cycle.
But the unwritten rules stuff, like what?
I would love.
I wonder if there's an article of.
I've written down the unwritten rules.
That should be done.
I'm sure there's many of them.
Now.
The bunting in the eighth, the whatever with a lead.
The bullshit on, we have this amount of a lead at this particular inning.
You know what I see these days?
Like I saw the freaking Giants lost like a nine run lead the other day.
And the ninth.
Yeah, the Astros blew one the other day.
This stuff happens all the time.
It feels like that's what I'd be interested in is with the explosion.
I mean, I haven't been baseball.
analytics guy in a long time. But I would imagine that baseball is tracking with basketball and that
the types of offense that we're seeing means that leads are less safe, right? So to me,
the old ways are even less applicable now because of the change in the game. It's funny to me that
baseball is always identified as like an autistic endeavor because I felt like when I was a kid,
the thing that really hung me up on baseball was all this ambiguity. Like, I, I was, I'm a little. I
I didn't understand.
Like, there's nothing like this in football.
And to an extent in basketball, I guess, like you're not just jacking up three.
But there's a lot of things that have to be interpreted in baseball that I didn't understand.
Like, it doesn't, I don't understand the concept of an unwritten rule.
Like, that, that's foreign to me.
That being said, nothing that guy said.
I mean, I could say warrants death threats, but what would?
A little more, a little more because jazz chisholm is just.
pretty much jogging home, you know, because now it's a home run.
Sure.
And he wants them to attack Jazz Chisholm.
I don't know what else do you need to hear.
The 3-2 is drilled into right field.
It is way back in.
It is gone.
And Moran should fight Chisholm.
He's walking towards the third-based line, staring at him there.
Chisholm drops home.
He says...
He should fight him.
Like he's...
That's kind of a throwaway line.
But it's...
Right, but it's funny, the whole...
The batter should get beaned because the runner just stole second and third.
So I should bean the batter to send a message to the whole team.
No, go fight this guy.
The culprit.
It's a two-run homer and it's 9-1.
As if we needed a little extra vinegar for what feels like an inevitable post-game
post-season series.
There it is.
It's 9-1, New York.
Chisholm.
I'm going to say it.
He plays the game the wrong way.
That's a breaking ball.
It's launched by Wells.
Oh.
I am going to say it.
Oh, dude, he caught himself too.
That's the thing.
I'm willing to do this.
That's the thing.
They're still holding on to Chisholm.
This guy just hit a home run.
Their pitcher sucks.
He's giving up everything.
Chisholm.
He still got Chisholm stuck in his craw.
I'm going to say it.
He plays the game the wrong way.
That's a breaking ball.
I, Tsar of right way, I deem thee to have violated.
He just does.
Gives the baseball thumbs down.
My beautiful baseball universe in my baseball universe.
That's great.
At least Chisholm doesn't have a beard.
Like all those red socks.
So no suspension or anything like that, right?
He's just, they made him run out there and say, we're sorry?
Yeah, I would guess someone told him to do that.
He says it since I have been receiving nonstop calls and threats.
Maybe those calls and threats were from his boss.
Right, it'd be like that sometimes.
I have no more sports apologies, but I do have sports.
Okay.
Oh, yeah, I like that.
What happened to Joe Milton?
What happened to Joe?
Right when we got done with the show yesterday, you were gone.
Clayton's like, we got to do an emergency podcast.
E-Pod?
Just because very interesting.
I wonder how it's received in the room, because I kind of think Shoddy is liked.
But also when you publicly say, hey, this guy, what does this guy need to do?
He needs to do this, this, this, and this.
And then you're watching the games, you're like, wow.
He's doing that, that, that, and that.
And he seems to have done everything asked of him and more,
and then you're cut.
Yeah, like yesterday, whenever you were talking about Shottie speaking on Jaden Blue,
I kind of feel like there's a thing in coaching,
you know, the psychological thing of it where they might have been just,
we're going to try to say he's doing a good job,
so that he feels like he's doing a good job
and it still didn't really fully take.
So we never really know what they're saying to us
how accurate it is.
All I know is, you know,
I actually watched these games like all you guys did.
And I mean, he missed a couple throws,
but overall I felt like his ability,
he looked night and day to me.
From last year.
From last year.
He just, he looked like a guy
who had kind of learned to play quarterback a little bit.
And like I said.
I can't a girl that.
Yeah.
And once you can, once you actually settle in, then you can use your tools a little bit.
And I, I don't know, man.
Sam Howell to me, I don't.
Now, the argument, I guess, and this is, I don't know, I don't know their games well enough for it to sound anything other than racist.
But, you know, the argument with Cooper Rush is just like, all right, well, this guy's going to, he's a coach.
Set your watch to him.
He'll be there.
You know what he's got.
Right.
Exactly what he's got.
He knows floor.
His ceiling isn't that high, but floor's not that low either, right?
He's not going to take a chance.
He just feels to me like...
He's not a gunslinger.
He's not risky.
He's just going to follow March and words.
And maybe that works out.
You know, Cooper Rush won some games by having freakish talent on the outside,
throwing to Amari and young CD.
But small sample, Milton had elevated himself to a point.
to me where his floor was high enough to validate keeping him around for the ceiling.
You've got a decent offensive line.
Yeah, I think they went on Sam Howell has actually started games in the NFL.
Yeah, he's got a, I mean, but that's more of a matter of circumstance.
Exactly.
Yeah.
