Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, I'm professional broadcaster Dan McDowell, letting you know that you were about to hear one of our free podcast. But if you'd like to subscribe at dumzone.com, you'll get four shows per week plus the weekend wrap-up and any bonus sods like our business Wednesday interviews. So if you forgot how to use the 15-second rewind, that's dumbzone.com to subscribe. Now, on to today's program. Jacob? Daniel. Let's talk about Fair lease. Fair lease Navidad.
Starting point is 00:00:36 We had a great time out there on Friday hanging out with our friends at Fair Lease. But Fair Lease, typically where they exist is on the Internet. Whenever you need them to be there, wherever you need them to be, they'll deliver a car right to your front door or your enemy's front door. That's kind of what I've been pushing for. Get a new ride. Go to someone you hate's house and have it delivered right there via Fairlease. Fairlease.org.
Starting point is 00:00:58 What do you think of this? on this. You like apples? This financing was backed by the credit union of Texas. Yeah, how about them, Apple? What does that even, why would that ever be what you'd say? 972-705-4815. Ask for Connor or Nick. Not about apples. You like great deals? That's right. Yeah. Fairlease.org, like I said, backed by the credit union of Texas. So there is no big bank. They don't have to go ask somebody. They are the bank. They work with you. No middleman. The middleman, he's gone. Deceased. Rest in power, middleman. at fairlease.org.
Starting point is 00:01:33 You know what I should do? I'm not going to ask. This. Fair lease, when you don't know what you should have my finger on that button earlier, is what I'm saying. Because car stuff is hard. But not with Fair lease. You don't need a dealership, baby. Friends, happy month.
Starting point is 00:02:24 It's not Monday. It's Tuesday. You still writing that on your checks? Is Tuesday, the day after Labor Day. September 8, 2020. 26. I'm Dan McDonnell. I'm Jake K. I'm Blake Jones. I'm Fudy CK. We are here. You are looking live, live to tape. Our studios, downtown Dallas, the Game Day Men's Health Studio. They're also on the internet, gameday.com. Gameday.com. Yeah. We're in studio today. We love a little game day.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Oh, by the way, you stop in one of the game days. You can ask to be a part, tell them you want in the raffle for the game day box. We have two seats at every one of our game streams high atop my garage. And there will be one next Sunday. So who knows? We're picking the winner later today. So it could be you. Get to one of those game day men's health locations.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Why are we downtown Dallas when sometimes Blake, because of one of his other 17 jobs, We'll schedule us to be in the den on a Tuesday closer to one of those other jobs. I like a Tuesday in the den or a Monday after a weekend in the den. It was odd, but he said no, because V.J. Boyd has a flight out of Love Field, and he's going to need to get to it. And we said, if there is one person that we would change our whole schedule, in fact, our whole life for its VJ Boyd. right we welcome him in studio now that's very sweet of you i really appreciate it that's why
Starting point is 00:04:19 blake is the best that's why i have a beehive t-shirt do you really i do west coast division what was it the northeast denton chapter we have uh there's a lot of chapters of the beehive fan club god bless can i just say something vj you look so hot on your i and bb photo where is this picture from you look like the rock which one do i have on there i think it's the one from at I was at the Austin TV festival. It's definitely a festival photo. My man is... Professionally done, I should probably give credit,
Starting point is 00:04:51 have no idea who took it, but we had someone from the ringer like moderating and thank you. I'm still using a headshot for other festivals that was taken close to 15 years ago and I really need to change it, but it's such a good headshot. But that was pretty good too.
Starting point is 00:05:06 That's a little closer. That's like eight years ago. You always wonder what the shelf life on that is. I don't know. I never really did dating apps so I don't know the rules. I'm like how often you have to update a photo. BJ's hot. He's a Hollywood guy. What, do you have a stick and kind of that little...
Starting point is 00:05:27 Bindle. The handkerchief, yeah, he had that over his shoulder. I hitchhiked all the way, all the way to L.A. One day, oh, I thought you sat on an empty train car. No, I get car sick on trains, so... Okay, well, anyway, yeah, he headed out to California, way and then hit it big struck gold uh he was a he's a big time writer uh just ask him he always tell you that first i can't stop talking about it as you shake his hand it's like yeah i write for
Starting point is 00:05:57 tv shows anyway so you live out there still or do you weren't you in new york for a while or no i was in toronto forever it felt like i was in new york Toronto Atlanta shooting the madness a while back. It took two and a half years to make eight episodes of TV, whereas on SWAT it took us one year to make 22, but go figure. I don't know. Wow. That's the new, the way it is now, right? Yes. Yes, that is the way it is. It's wonderful and terrible. If you want the full backstory, the VJ story, we do have that on our feed, right? It's, it's a business Wednesday from like last year. Yeah. Yeah. Which was, I thought, a fascinating story. You asked great questions. stand. That's why it was fascinating.
Starting point is 00:06:40 BJ is a homeschooled, was homeschooled, right? I was. It's a hot topic. Like, just that. Just that is pretty fascinating. Like, he's the one that made it. You know, I got to tell you a lot of the dudes that I was homeschooled with are very rich, richer than me. Like a lot of real estate investors, a lot of entrepreneurs, because you do learn, you have a lot of free time and you learn a lot of entrepreneurial skills. Yeah, I feel like if you can stick.
Starting point is 00:07:08 the landing, it's definitely better. Yeah. And you might end up a little weird, but you learn a lot of interesting stuff also. That's always been the thing. And we were talking about Montessori last week. Because, you know, my kid only did it for a couple years. How do you create that social connectivity and ability? It's hard to force. Yeah. And I feel like a lot of what you're giving up in education by going to, you know, regular school, you're gaining in social skills. At least at least that's how you have to sell it to yourself as a parent. Well, yeah, to some degree.
Starting point is 00:07:43 But definitely if you have a kid who's, like, interested in the arts, like, you're not going to make some prodigy flute player, like, do regular school. So why would you make someone else? Yeah, it's, I don't know. It picks certain things. It is interesting. But, no, we went to, we saw BJ. It seems like it would be very difficult for the parent.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Oh, yeah. And listen, that's something that, I have a news story about that today, but I see some of these parents on TikTok and Instagram that are doing homeschool and I'm not super sure I trust them to be executing the curriculum but I mean I guess that's that's the thing there'll be some good some bad we saw Vijay a few weeks ago in uh in LA we went to the groundlings theater together were you performing there's a alternate universe where I could have just kept all this to myself and I think it might have been a better idea it's fun. We're having fun. I was not performing, Dan.
Starting point is 00:08:43 But VJ showed you the spots to see and be seen? No, he could... Do you go to any club or didn't have a sign or anything? It was just... Right this way, Mr. Boyd. I don't know those spots. I know some of those spots in Austin, because there's nothing but those spots in Austin. But no, Jake and T.C. already had their planned, and they were kind enough to invite me along. I had never been to groundlings, but I said afterwards, I feel like I could do that. Yeah. That's a compliment to those people, I think.
Starting point is 00:09:12 Oh, I'd probably do that, Tom. That's real easy. Well, we're glad you're here today, and we're glad to be downtown. Thank you again. By the way, I had a nightmare last night about coming in here today, a nightmare that there was a sit-in that Dan recognized, and he stood up and said, no, get out of here. And it was very tense.
Starting point is 00:09:35 He just recognized this guy and was like, you're going to cause trouble. Get out of here. very weird. Sure it wouldn't me? No, it was Dan. That's what was so weird. It was way more like me. Are we analyzing dreams now?
Starting point is 00:09:47 What do we make of this? You know, I mean, there's an argument for, like, writing that stuff down every day, right? I don't know. You tell me. I mean, anytime I, if I bring up a dream, you want to curb me. Yeah, no. And then Vijay does. You're like, oh, man, that's interesting.
Starting point is 00:10:04 I did not say that. I laid out. Check the tape. I offered him no support on that whatsoever. You did not think it's interesting. All right. Let's do a weekend check. Indeed.
Starting point is 00:10:14 Because we need to check what happened on the weekend. This will be brought to us by Atlas Foundation Company. Our newest advertiser. I'm a customer. Kyler over there. Was he, wasn't he at your house like last Friday? There's things going on here that I don't understand. But what I can tell you is that he got underneath my house.
Starting point is 00:10:36 We knew he had a problem. And he said, whoever did this before did some things. that they shouldn't. And those people are back out at my house this morning to fix that at no cost to me after Kyler's report. Oh, the other people messed up. Yeah. He was like, they should have done this and this and this. And you should tell them this is not done right. And they said, looked at the photos and said, okay, we'll come fix it. For free. Now, I don't know if that'll be the case at your house. You got pier and beam, right? I do. Yeah. He can do slab as well. Slow loud and banging. Is that what they call it?
Starting point is 00:11:08 1958 is when Atlas Foundation Company started. That was a different time, Dan. Way different. Way, way different time. Some would say a better time. Some. Not all. But all can get their foundation fixed at Atlas Foundation Inc.com.
Starting point is 00:11:27 This is a special dumb zone phone number, 817672-9950. You can get a free foundation inspection book an appointment at Atlas Foundation Inc.com. they will come out eastway. They will go to Dallas and give you a free inspection if you're a dumb zone listener. There you go. All right. We can check. Oh, you know what?
Starting point is 00:11:50 I'd like to announce something. Oh, wow. Well, it's for our YouTube page. You're finally getting the surgery? No, I just tuck it. It's not always like that. I'm sorry. It's not.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Yes, it is. Yes, it is. Okay. Did we have lady VJ in here? VJ brought a lady. I did. I did. And then Jake's now worried about everything he says.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Yeah, wait until we get to viewer mail birthdays. That would be fun. Anyway, I wanted to announce that we have worked out a deal with Dagle and Machine. Well, it was that they asked us, hey, we're going to do a fantasy show every week. Can we do it live on your YouTube channel, right? Yes. YouTube feed. Yes.
Starting point is 00:12:39 And we're like, yeah, that'd be great. Dude, I didn't know how great Daigle was. I see. Did you guys, did anyone else listen to seven hours of fantasy prep like I did this week? I listened to the whole thing. I love it. I love Machine. Did they give us that in that order?
Starting point is 00:12:55 No. Well, when you patched it together, uh-huh. Episode one was at the end. So it was like Star Wars. Wow. It was like. That's different.
Starting point is 00:13:08 That's next life. I listened to our feed on our thing, and it, and it, they did running backs and quarterbacks, and then they did tight ends and wide receivers. And then they did, well, this is our intro show. I thought you might want to stick around for Daigle. So here's your running backs, here's your order of importance, kind of. And then Daigle was given his, like, these are the real. Save your good songs for the last.
Starting point is 00:13:32 No, it was great. No, it's a, I probably won my fantasy league. It's just how. been roster baiting. It's how life works. I love roster baiting. That's such a, you guys deserve credit for big ups for that fantasy community. But I've known John Daigle for almost 20 years now.
Starting point is 00:13:48 At one point, he's my age. At one point he was doing some work for Bob. He would come like pass out of my hotel room at training camp when he lived out in LA. He went to a ticket dinner once. I've known this guy forever. And he's an animal in the fantasy game. He owns the website Establishtherrun.com.
Starting point is 00:14:06 Like he used to be on TV. Lake should own that. I know. He's been, and John's been hitting me up. Like, can I do something on your show? I have this website. Dude, let's get him on. The problem is, he's primarily here to talk fantasy football, which is... We're fired up about that. But that's why we want to put this on our feed. It's not for everybody. He's a Titan. But I am going to listen to this weekly, live, Wednesday night. It will be the best thing you can hear. I'm telling you. These guys are the top of their game. Are they doing this week? I imagine. Yeah, you could still make picks, right?
Starting point is 00:14:38 Hell yeah. You can make waiver moves. Anyway, yeah, so go to our YouTube page if you'd like to do to see that on Wednesday evening. Is it called Action Is the Juice? What is he calling it? That's it. All right. A heat.
Starting point is 00:14:51 Hat tip. We actually, so I did have my fantasy draft on Sunday night. A member of our fantasy league actually passed away. I'm sorry. Moment of silence. What happened to his pick? What do you not understand? That's a valid question.
Starting point is 00:15:06 He said moment of silence. He was the greatest dude. His name is meat. You've heard about meat before. His name wasn't vegetable. I mean, I feel a guy named meat probably, you're probably not making it to. Yeah, I mean, he's, but like that was like. That's not unfair.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Yeah, yeah. Yeah, if you know a guy named meat or a guy named, you know, party. Right. Yeah, yeah. But the greatest dude. Hell yeah. Just a wonderful, wonderful dude. This is the Julius Jones.
Starting point is 00:15:42 This happened this weekend. Yeah, it's in the league that drafted Julius Jones number one overall. Cowboy Homer. Which did make me really surprised that C.D. Lamb was still sitting there at 10 and I took C.D. Lamb. There we go. That's good. But then I was like, well, if all these other guys haven't taken C.D. Lamb, what don't I know about C.D. Lamb? I'm like, I don't know. Could be a weird year.
Starting point is 00:16:06 I was very worried. But, like I said, most people were probably just sitting there thinking, gosh, how does this guy make these moves? Not about their friend that passed? No, no. That's how good my draft was. What'd they do with the pick? I think somebody else has taken over the franchise.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Okay. A living person. I'm not sure. They should have to pick last, though, right? But it did make me think, because I also got an email follow-up from, do you remember last week, somebody emailed in and said a guy who was a sit-in on our show died. Yeah. And then the guy did email us, and he said, you know, he did re-up.
Starting point is 00:16:46 He locked in his annual before that. So just with all of this, I just want, you know, all this flying around, I just want to remind everybody, lock in your annual. Just something could happen. Yeah. This weekend. Can I tell you two quick things before messing up your weekend check? One part of my weekend checked is I smoked almost an entire joint that that guy rolled before he died. He gave me a pack of like four joints when we saw him.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Not me. The other guy. Not me. The other guy. We met him with his wife, you know, and he knew he was going. And it was like four or five months ago. And he gave me a pack of hand-rolls in a little perfect container that was like made for Jay. and he was like here and I have them and last night after I got Kirk's email or
Starting point is 00:17:34 Saturday let's fire one up my other question he gave me some too I went right to the police department yeah narked on him yeah and then I uh dude I'm telling you this is this is like a very heavy topic but last time we saw those guys and he was going to the hospital I we've had some heartfelt emails back and one of the responses that they sent to me, was their friend in the hospital bed, like, really putting on R-word face and affect? Like, he looked like Stephen Hawking. He was doing bits in his hospital bed.
Starting point is 00:18:11 And they were taking pictures. I'm like, this guy's dying. Then he, that's a force field, though. But it's so funny, though. He is allowed to do all the comedy he lost. I was crying and laughing. It's so funny. And my other question is, do you think if Steve Balmer killed himself that they would get those
Starting point is 00:18:27 picks back? That's an amazing question. If the league every year at the draft, it would be so awkward if they're like, of course, this is where the clippers pick would have been. I did see a thing, though, that a lot of their, some of their punishment is based on
Starting point is 00:18:43 that the clippers have been not playing along with the investigation, not real helpful. Whereas the Timberwolves for Joe Smith got docked five draft picks, what, a decade ago, 15 years ago? and that they were extremely honest and everything. And over the years, they ended up losing three draft picks. Like the next off season, they were like, you know what, we're going to give you one of those draft picks back.
Starting point is 00:19:11 Time served. And then they were just doing just so, hey, yes, here's our phones, look through everything. We did it. We admit it. And I think the clippers are like fighting it. Interesting. They're like, we didn't, this isn't wrong.
Starting point is 00:19:27 So suicide, an option. Back to you. Went to the gym this weekend. Overly packed on, I should have done it Saturday or Sunday, but that Monday, everybody was at the gym. And I saw RJ Choppy. Choppy. Who came up to me and said, apparently Choppy goes to my gym. He's on 105.3, The Fan, right?
Starting point is 00:19:51 I enjoy their show. What time are they? Morning. Okay. Not as much of your eating. And then as you watch, as you're looking at, you know, they'll have your Fox News up there. Then they'll have some games on the TV and everything. Then they'll have the Mexican channel up there.
Starting point is 00:20:10 And it was like Noticia, right? They're doing the news. Yeah. And when they throw it to the weather, the guy's name or what they call him is Mr. Tienpo. Isn't that mean like temperature? Time, right? Is it time? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:27 Okay. Well, they throw it to him and it says on. the thing, Mr. Tampo. So I don't know what they may have multiple meanings. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I was thinking about that. Like I said, I was
Starting point is 00:20:41 did I mention, it was on the air or off the year that I've been, lived in Mexico for a little while. But anyway, I was thinking about that because I try to engage the lady who cleans up around the Fox 4 sometimes just with a little good morning. I don't give a Buenas dees or anything,
Starting point is 00:21:02 but I was thinking of treading there because you know how we'll say morning. Morning. But when you answer the phone, or at least when I lived in Mexico, they would just say, Bueno. So instead of Buenaest deis or Buenos Aires or whatever, they just say Bueno,
Starting point is 00:21:20 which literally means good, and it doesn't make any sense if you answered the phone. Sure, not a direct translation. If I said Bueno to her, would that be cool? But I haven't dipped my toe into the, that yet. In the talking Spanish to the lady who clearly talks Spanish. I do it every morning because it is required when we drop off at school every morning.
Starting point is 00:21:37 And I love it. Oh, buenos days, buenos days when we pick up, asa-wego. Buenos toaday. Like, they speak Spanish. They make you. Oh, it's an all-Spanish school? No, it's not all, but it's when you pick up and drop off. The greetings, we're getting down.
Starting point is 00:21:52 How's the kids at talking? Yesterday we said we were at the aquarium and my wife looked at me and she was like, hey, what's yellow in Spanish? And before I could say, Amarillo, my son goes, Uno dos, Trace, Cuantra, Cinco. He knows that. He knows that. That's about it. All right.
Starting point is 00:22:14 Well, when I thought Mr. Teampo meant temperature, that was a lot of funnier. His name is literally Carlos Robles Teempo. That's his real last name. His real name. He is a meteorologist. Okay. And a time traveler. It's actually not funny at all then.
Starting point is 00:22:29 I still liked your story. I don't know. Of watching the Mexican station at the gym. He's extremely hot as everyone on Mexican TV is. I mean, even more than, you know, American TV. He's hot. Is Mr. Tampo hot? Yeah, I couldn't tell from...
Starting point is 00:22:45 Yeah, he looks like he, you know... From the leg press machine. But that's the moment of the movie. Oh, my God, dude. I saw something the other day. I feel like this is in play because it was outside of AA. You know Right when they ended
Starting point is 00:22:59 I saw a car It was obviously a lady Because the number is otherwise Not done impressive But she had shoe polished I just leg pressed 300 pounds On the back of it has to be a crossfit thing Right
Starting point is 00:23:14 That's the only people that are P-Ring and like bragging about it right Like I don't Did you know what you bench right now? Like what Why would you know that? No you certainly didn't high school, right? Of course. We needed to put it in Dave Campbell's Texas football.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Your reps, your 40, your height weight. Did they put that in there? But yeah, I just thought what compels us a 50-year-old adult to shoot up. I could never bench a lot because my arms are long. Yeah, that's why. That's definitely why. Trust me. We've all used it. We've all used it. I feel like you should at least tell people that you did go walk at the mall. Why? I didn't really have much from the mall. mall. I did go to the mall. I told you. Just driving by, I'm like, you know what, let's just take a quick walk around the mall. I don't love it. And then all of a sudden, oh my, let's take a run for the border. Now I'll take another lap around the mall. Call my mom. Yeah, they got a Taco Bell in the mall, bro. Really? Oh, yeah. Didn't go so poor. Yeah. Interesting. Why don't you like me going to the
Starting point is 00:24:19 mall? I don't know. Because when you're going, he's got a thing. Oh, this all stemmed from you said Mexican. No, no, no, no. No, I don't, I think it feels like an older move than walking at Home Depot. Like Home Depot, you feel it's virile. You're walking around. You're, it's, fuck, there's wood. It's very, uh, cliche. Like the mall walkers, the 80 year old ladies from the, when you told me yesterday, I was like, ooh, not good.
Starting point is 00:24:46 But I will tell you about the mall. Certain stores now only let a certain number of people in at a time. possibly a tactic the Dallas Aquarium could look into. Certainly the jewelry store. You can kind of see that. If that's mobbed with 100 people and you don't know. What about me and 11 of my criminal friends with each a specific set of skill? The crocs store.
Starting point is 00:25:09 What? There's a line. Too hot on the block for crocs? There's like a 15 people long line to get into the crock store. And it's teeming with people. But I guess one in one out. There might have been people like walking out with their crocs or. or you try a pair on and then leave your shoes in the box.
Starting point is 00:25:26 Damn. You ever hear that bit? I think they should determine how much trouble you're in for stealing by how gay what you stole it. If you steal Crocs. But from now on, if it is 110 degrees and I decide to walk at the mall, I will not mention it to you. Because you're just going to tell me that I'm a. Yesterday was 60% off crocs. Maybe that's it.
Starting point is 00:25:51 Oh, was that? Maybe those are fellow first downers. Excellent. Blake would know. Excellent. All right. And I did some TiVo stuff, but I think we're going to do that later with VJ. We'll talk TiVo.
Starting point is 00:26:06 Foodie CK. Thanks, Daniel. Four day weekend. Three day weekend? Yeah. I'm going to do something new. Workshoping it. Fast foodie.
Starting point is 00:26:18 Just going to run through some food observations from the weekend. Love it. Okay. That's funny. We need an open. I want to start with the remote at Fairle's Friday. Amazing hot dog. Great dog.
Starting point is 00:26:29 They steam it in the bun? I don't even really know what that means, by the way, when Clayton Adams is talking about it. You wrap it in the foil and the heat from the hot dog steams the bun because it's basically baking. If you get a hot dog at a game, that's the way it always is, right? Usually they're carrying that big thing. Yeah. Then, okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:45 Got it. A little mushy. Great circumference. Great flavor. Good pepper. They had some pepper in there mixed in with the meat. So you like the girth of your hot dog? I like a hot dog that when you take a bite of it, you know you're eating something.
Starting point is 00:26:59 Not these little skinny little, like, you know, flaccid dogs you get at some places. No one would say flaccid. I would. Ever. Great dog there. Swung by Connie Rosa, getting my Coni Rosa intake leveled out because we're about to hit football season. It's Friday. It's brisket lasagna day.
Starting point is 00:27:21 Damn. You can't not just grab a slice of brisk. They don't have that in L.A. Nope. They don't even know what brisket is out there. Something to keep your eye on, Waterburger, if you're a fan of Waterburger. I've tried three different places just because, you know, I'm a man of science. They've changed their sausage recipe, I'm pretty sure.
Starting point is 00:27:44 It's got a lot more pepper, red pepper flake in it. How would you... Look, I'm with him on certain. places that slight, you know, if you're really into a place and then they slightly change something, you're like, you know right away. Yeah. And it's very bothers. I don't know that. I just don't think I've ever gotten there. And then all of a sudden they're like, oh, no, no, now it's this. You're going to love it and you don't love it. It happens. Interesting. Sometimes it's a, you know, this was a good thing. Cost saving. It's a, it's a, I'm not 100% sure. I've been
Starting point is 00:28:19 searching the board seeing if anybody else is caught onto this. and I'm not seeing anything, but I think Waterburgers change their sausage patty for the better. I think about that scene in Breaking Bad a lot where they're, maybe I remember it wrong, but they're like in the fast food chemical plant where they're, like that, you know,
Starting point is 00:28:40 where the lady worked. I think in Europe. Testing ketchup. Yeah, they were just, they had guys in suit, you know, in hazmat suits that were like refining sauces drop by drop.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Like chemistry. wise. So I don't know that Waterberg is going to that level, but you know, I have friends, most of them that are fat that believe that it's like irrelevent. That it's like, hey, this is a, I'm being tricked. This is a
Starting point is 00:29:05 Okay, thanks Jake. Waterberger does have a test kitchen in the San Antonio area. I'm, uh, pop up. Trying everything I can to get an invite to that. So suck it. I bet we could do some work on that. And then the other thing from the weekend,
Starting point is 00:29:24 I need everybody to get off of Oklahoma State's ass. Oh, tough weekend, pal. A lot of media hype going into the season because we got rid of a coach that's been there for 20 years. Look, I'm not happy with what happened in Tulsa, but I'm also happy that we're in a state of rebuilding. I feel like I am Jake with the Cowboys. last year. We got a first year coach.
Starting point is 00:29:53 He's got to vibe out the team. He's got to vibe out the program. And we didn't buy a team like everybody else has recently. We're building a foundation and remove yourself from the conversation if you're not a true poke. Well, you don't just walk into Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium and come out of there with a W. Way to look that up, Blake. They got their ass kick this weekend? They just lost to Tulsa. They lost to a bad team.
Starting point is 00:30:25 They lost to, yeah. And Tulsa is not, is not the same team that they were whenever Gundy was just putting 40 up. And they come and go. It doesn't matter, but you're right. Tulsa's actually good. You're right. I mean, they hired, but what's interesting is about this is Oklahoma State not only hired U&T's coach, got their quarterback.
Starting point is 00:30:44 They hired their 25-year-old Wonderkind Indian GM. And how'd he take the loss? This is, no, this is the first thing Jake said. I wasn't going to bring it up because I don't know if it's real or not. Is he grinding the spreadsheets or... Are you against it? No, against what? Is it one of those HB3 things?
Starting point is 00:31:01 No. No, he's a mom... The kid's going to be awesome. I believe in him. The Indian GM? Yes. But... What was he doing after the game?
Starting point is 00:31:11 I don't know that he was doing that somebody... What was he doing? Listen, somebody found a photo of a woman just, it's just a thirst trap photo of some chick on Instagram with their ass hanging out. He's liking out. And the first like is, is Raj. Like, it shows up. Well, what's he to do, then? And also, like,
Starting point is 00:31:27 most successful, as we've been talking about, most of your horribly successful males, uncontrollable penises. So if the GM, he's just becoming as American as American can be. And if he's 25, you can't blame the, oh, I didn't know. Well, Indians are pretty horny too. And that was a, that was a common thing I saw is, and this is obviously racially coded, but very funny,
Starting point is 00:31:51 is people were like, we got scammed. You laughed way too hard at that. I have to tell my kids not to make that joke because they're teenagers. No, no, stop. But yeah, that's the thing. If you do something unconventional, you better start hot or be willing to put up with a lot of heat. I'll go. Before you go, what if we talk real quick about Qualis roofing, the OG of our advertisers?
Starting point is 00:32:21 first, I don't know, they had us out for a remote, right? That's where we got the mushroom sandwich. They are our foundation. Like the one mushroom. There's one mushroom on my mushroom sandwich that they ordered me. But that was probably my fault. Yeah, they would never one mushroom your roof. No.
Starting point is 00:32:43 Yeah, what if they just put one shingle on? That would look really bad, I think. You'd be all wet or hot. They're going to get a free roof inspection done for you. and if there's work that needs to be done, they will deal with the insurance company. That's the biggest point of pride for Qualis, is they're going to handle all of the communication for you.
Starting point is 00:33:01 This is painless. Dan knows because he had a roof done by Qualis. Yeah, they talked to the insurance company. Because we were doing another insurance claim on something else at the same time. And I was on the phone and on hold and like every, it was such a beating with Qualis, none of that. They took care of it all. We just paid the deductible.
Starting point is 00:33:21 so if you haven't had your roof inspected in a while, why not just go do it? There's been a lot, you know. The heat. Heat, hail, whatever. Over the years, that stuff adds up. And you might just get yourself a brand new roof, which will make your property value go up, maybe, probably, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:33:39 QualusGC. I'm just talking out my ass now. But I bet it does. How come we never talk about christening the roof? Like get up there? Anybody ever boning on a roof? Well, you're outside. You probably want a flat roof.
Starting point is 00:33:53 There's that movie. Because you probably fall off it. What do you mean a movie? Didler on the roof? I don't know. When you need a roof on your home. They're the ones with a drone. That's that theme.
Starting point is 00:34:05 Put a roof on the mother. Put a roof on air. Quietly's cheesy. Jesus. Let's see. Went to the aquarium yesterday. The Dallas Aquarium. You remember when that was a controversial?
Starting point is 00:34:27 entity. No way. I think it was a New Yorker article or one of the other wokeys maybe 10, 15 years ago. So like aquariums don't have to be, I think, accredited like zoos
Starting point is 00:34:43 do. There's a much less stringent process, possibly no process at all. And the guy who bought and ran the Dallas Aquarium was just like a super eccentric rich guy who liked animals but had very little regard for like ecology and which animals belong together.
Starting point is 00:35:02 You know, the zoo is much more of a habitat, especially today. So like if you put that one fish in with another one that eats it or something? He didn't give a fuck. And that happened a lot. That's fun. And they were under investigation for years and years. And I don't know what ended up happening with him or whatever. But it's basically still the same.
Starting point is 00:35:23 It's way more than an aquarium if you haven't been. have you been? I have been a long time ago, yeah. It's part zoo, aviary and part aquarium. It's very cool. But, I guess like most aquariums,
Starting point is 00:35:39 there's a path. You know, there's a way you kind of have to go. And especially in this one, you work your way down from the top to the bottom. And it was obviously a holiday. It was very busy. And I just don't know that they had control of the life.
Starting point is 00:35:55 and the flow properly. So within 10 minutes, you're standing there, nut to butt, shoulder to shoulder, very hot, surrounded by monkeys. What do you mean by that? Like they're just, oh, sir. You're talking about literal monkeys? Yeah, they've got like little...
Starting point is 00:36:15 They have monkeys at the aquarium? Everywhere, dude. They've got like... Literal monkeys. Yeah, they've got like Capuchin monkeys. That sounds great. Why? Why would it be at the aquarium? Because the way that it's set up is that the aquarium is on, you know, the bottom, bottom floor,
Starting point is 00:36:30 but you walk in at a higher level and sort of work your way down. And as you're working your way down, it's kind of open air in there. And around its cages and habitats and they're, you know, they can't get out, but they're swinging around the whole time. It's fun. But they're loud. I mean, it's cool. You're there to see them. But at some point, if you're just like stuck.
Starting point is 00:36:54 But it doesn't make sense. The aquarium elicits its thoughts of, you know. Aqua. Liquid, yeah, aqua. But it's birds. It's all sorts of stuff. They got a giant, giant crocodile. And I don't know.
Starting point is 00:37:12 I feel like you... Same at the mall. You would have heard about it if a kid had fallen in. But it's kind of shocking to me. I guess without having the visual of it, you're not going to grasp what I'm telling you here. but it feels like a kid could end up there very easily. There's no one.
Starting point is 00:37:29 There's kids running. There's too many kids to parent ratio. Maybe that's so you can use that as a threat. Thin it out a little bit. Yeah. But we did that. I did an open mic on Sunday at DCC where we did our last comedy night. That was interesting.
Starting point is 00:37:46 It was fun, but it was you never know what kind of crowd you're going to get. And? On board with the race jokes Not on board with the kid death jokes And I got I kind of You know how This is a common thing
Starting point is 00:38:04 But when you start like writing Especially when you're a little kid Maybe you're going to make a sign for football or something And you get to like Three quarters to the end to the right side And you're like fuck I got way more words left Yeah all the time
Starting point is 00:38:17 I got lit you know at the minute And I'm like all right I have a couple left and then I had to kind of end on a very dark joke that I didn't intend to, and then they kind of cut my mic. I was like, oh, that was a disaster. But I'm glad I did it. And I did it because my wife had people over. So you're like I'm leaving?
Starting point is 00:38:36 Got out of the house. Did they film those? I didn't. No, some people do. Like, people bring there. There was a lot of people there compared to a, maybe because it was a holiday. Huh. The day before day off.
Starting point is 00:38:49 But, dude, you got to wait outside. And the heat. You gotta be a dog. I was standing outside for 40 minutes in line. As like homeless people just kind of stand in the line. It's like, are you? It's exactly like Jimmy said. Very weird scene.
Starting point is 00:39:08 I think that's probably it for me. Blake? I've got two pictures. I want to get out of the way. The first one is the gas station one, Clayton. I saw this this morning because we're now in pumpkin spice latte cisson, where everything is pumpkin, this, pumpkin cream. and I'm here for it.
Starting point is 00:39:25 The sign at my gas station says spice it up this season, so I'm interested. Do we got some sort of pumpkin coffee coming or what? But the small text at the bottom just says, add two creamers to your coffee. Like that. That's how you spice. That will change your season.
Starting point is 00:39:40 That's like Dan's boss telling him work hard, play hard, and ordering one beer. We're not offering anything new. But it was Wednesday. But it was Wednesday. You can have two. We have a drink on Wednesday.
Starting point is 00:39:52 So spice up your season with that. extra creamer. The other one is I was at my grandparents, or my parents, my kids' grandparents. It happens, dude. See, Romo? No, no, yeah, that's exactly what I was trying to tell you that day. That's what Romo says. That's what we say. I'll, you know,
Starting point is 00:40:10 I think, yeah. We were at the grandparents' house. Yeah, we were at grandma's house, and it's my mom. And a couple, my niece and nephew were grounded, which meant no Nintendo Switch, no TV, no YouTube, Netflix. And so the funny thing here is their version of grounded is now we have to play board games. Which when we, I don't know. That is absolutely the way we ran.
Starting point is 00:40:35 Uphill both ways. However you want to say it. When I was, we didn't get anything. Now you get board games. Right. You were starting with board games. Sure. That was all you had.
Starting point is 00:40:43 Dude, I had a terrifying memory the other day of standing in the corner. Yeah. I don't know if homeschools did that, but we didn't do it at school. but my mom, yeah, I just stand in the corner. I'm like, I just remember the corner. We're doing that anymore? I'm not. I never did with my kids.
Starting point is 00:41:01 And I just, my parents just did corporal punishment. So I just got the spank. There was no standing in the corner. That was weak sauce. Yeah, no, I definitely got, I got spanked and slapped. You ducked that with your kids? Yeah, I stopped after like two or so. And I was like, why am I doing this?
Starting point is 00:41:15 Interesting. It's kind of weird to tell them not to hit people, but then I'm hitting them. Yeah. Kind of weird. So, uh. Didn't you ever get the do as I say, not as I do? Because I would raise that objection as well when my mom would hit me with a spoon. Once Dad moved out, we had to use a spoon.
Starting point is 00:41:32 A spatula maybe. She broke a blood vessel in her hand from hitting me. What, really? Yeah. So it would, the big, the big wooden spoon or whatever, yeah. Not ready for this? Yeah, but then it was, I would raise the objection of I thought we're not supposed to hit people. Then it's the...
Starting point is 00:41:49 You got hit harder. That didn't help. That didn't help. She didn't be like, well, you know what? You're really logical. And this is a great point. And this is why you're my favorite kid. So this board came out, board game came out.
Starting point is 00:42:01 It's called Wahoo. It was a favorite of mine as a kid. Oh, no. We're now reflecting back on the caricatures of the Indians. Wrong at the time and wrong now is our disclaimer. Over the top. Very chief Wahoo. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:18 The black ones, I can't even describe it. Did your kids play? They loved it. Yeah. It's a... Wahoo's a great time. But we've come a little bit, come along a little bit. Jesus.
Starting point is 00:42:32 Yeah. But yeah, punishment is just playing... You can still play games and everything. You just can't be an electronic one. Right. You can go outside. You can ride the four-wheelers. You can play board games.
Starting point is 00:42:43 Just no Nintendo Switch. Wow. I've told you this. I'm kind of tired of, like, the parents acting beaten by their kids. kids. I have another addition to the list. There's a lady at gymnastics. Her shirt said, you don't scare me. I have a daughter. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:59 No. You were basically at Normandy. Idiot. Yeah. That is the worst, man. They should, those, again, I think those t-shirts should be a trap. That if you buy one, they immediately are like, your kids are coming with us. You fell right in.
Starting point is 00:43:16 So we had a fish fry Saturday. My family out in East Texas. We went over to Mount Vernon did not see Greg Oster Tag. But we drove by the dress turn. Or Art Biles. No. Biles. Biles. No.
Starting point is 00:43:30 In this, I guess I'll just talk this up to the kids are going to be all right. My kid was very intrigued by the tree swing. Trees are tall out there, East Texas. They had a tree swing and didn't want to get on it, but by the end of it, I'm swinging him as high as the tree will allow. It was a good time. A good reset. I had a fantasy draft at the house. I'm the guy with the half cow in the grill,
Starting point is 00:43:55 so my house was the easy option. She had some pepper. Hey, did you do any, for the first time ever, I did this because of machine and dagle. I did a mock draft. No. What's that mean?
Starting point is 00:44:10 They have sites you can just say, you put in your, did you do one? I did because of machine. I had never done one before. I had never done one, but I'm like, you know what,
Starting point is 00:44:18 that would really help me. Because every time I do a draft, when I'm driving home, I'm kicking myself. And then if you do another draft, you're like, I'm better at this because I've been through one. So, yeah, I did a, they all have a site. You just search mock draft and you could put in your draft position, type of league or whatever is it, snake and all that. And then it'll draft the first nine, and then you pick your player there. And it drafts the next four or whatever.
Starting point is 00:44:45 Do you put on a little suit? Like you're in charge of a team? Maybe make a little phone call. Hey, Mr. Lamb, I'm taking you. Just keep those jokes coming as I'm cashing in at the end of the season. We do a little bit to determine the draft order. Dude, I saw some great ones this weekend. This makes me miss it.
Starting point is 00:45:07 This, it was okay. It was Bopit. Okay. And it's timed, obviously. What is that? Bop it, pull it, twist it. You ever played the Bopit game? It's a handheld.
Starting point is 00:45:20 No. It just tells you what to do. Then it gets faster. Pop it. It's a reaction game. Pull it. Pop it. Twist it.
Starting point is 00:45:27 Pull it. And, you know, however. Whose idea was this to use this is the... The commissioner that's given up. Dude, I saw one the other day that was just a race to the end of a cigarette. I like that one. It was just like... So you didn't have draft order known before you got to the draft?
Starting point is 00:45:47 No. Oh, that's interesting. Not until everyone did their bop it. We always know a couple weeks ahead. No. You can kind of start to... 40 time is a good one. I like the 40 time.
Starting point is 00:45:55 Yeah, the combine. I saw one that's very game day related where you get your testosterone checked. Yeah. That's good. That's good. What's good next year? Yeah. That's a good bit.
Starting point is 00:46:08 Jake's got the number one pick. This was not that league. Artificially. The league I have with the hardcore punishments, the one where I had to get my nipples pierced, Justin Bieber back window decal. We've settled this year. year's punishment and it is a full day sunrise to the end of the game you have to be at the state fair oh show up as soon as it opens stay at the state fair you got to check in a few
Starting point is 00:46:34 few things and then you have to go to the the football game at the cotton bowl stay all the way through then you can go home i mean that doesn't sound that bad okay i just a whole day at the state fair you're the biggest liar i've ever met my life life. I don't think it's horrible, but I do think that, and this is the argument like we were having about the picks payoff is like the Rangers game thing. Blake was like, I'm not really sure that's that bad. I do think there are people who would not be completely beaten by this.
Starting point is 00:47:05 It is hot as fuck. I remember being out there last year for two hours before the game. You'll sit on one of those mattresses for hours. You're going to have to figure something out for sure, because you will be very, you'll be worn down. I wanted to take their phone. Great healthy food. That's a good idea. That's really good.
Starting point is 00:47:23 Raw dog it. That got shot down though. Because people forget one of the greatest ticket bits of all time. Just go get in a Chevy Tacoma and just sit there on your phone. Yeah, you just walk around all day. Yeah, just. It's fine. It's a beating, but it's fine.
Starting point is 00:47:37 But no phone. Yeah, that's really tough. Like walking around the fair all day, it'd be like, what if you just had to walk around all day somewhere? No, but it's like nine hours. And it's outside. Outside. Yeah, but you can go in that little showroom. Yeah, you're going to have to.
Starting point is 00:47:53 One of the greatest, if not in my mind, greatest ticket bits ever was Corby's bus to camp. And that idea came from Blake's Fantasy League because they did the bus to New Orleans and then meeting them there. So I think the bus in the one I've won, right, at the last second. I think you were legit stressed about that one. Oh, my God. That's a great payoff. me. Pay off.
Starting point is 00:48:19 Great payoff. You ever had an earring, VJ? No, I've thought about it. You haven't done it. Haven't pulled the trigger. Got your nipples pierced? Never. No, no chance.
Starting point is 00:48:31 Oof. Ooh, he says no chance. I'm not hardcore like you. It sucks. I feel like there's not no chance. You hear that? You listen to a lot of like Lincoln Park in the day. Your girlfriend's like, oh, I've really loved to.
Starting point is 00:48:43 I mean, if you just tried it. I just feel like it would somehow rip him off or something. Yeah. It does. Awful. Awful. All right. Where there's the weekend check?
Starting point is 00:48:56 All right. And that leads us into sports for the day. This. From the wonderful world of sports. Radio sports. Scoreboard. Oh, yeah. I like that.
Starting point is 00:49:10 Brought to you by Plum Quick. I got to get them out to the house this week. They've been to my house. And they'll come to yours. Plumquick Company.com. Get yourself signed up for that home, plum quick home membership.
Starting point is 00:49:21 It's $199. Then you get the plumbing inspection, a standard tank water heater flush, drain cleaning every year, one camera inspection year, priority scheduling, you waive the service fee, 10% off repairs up to $500.
Starting point is 00:49:35 If you have issues, they'll be there quick with a special dumb zone phone number, 469, 331, 3669. But I think our message is, let's act before, you know, you're like our buddy in Arlington
Starting point is 00:49:48 that had sewage two feet high in his house when he came home from vacation. He didn't know he had a problem. You know why? Because he didn't have the home membership. Punkwaycom. Don't let poop fill up your house. That's their slogan? Well, George is going to make a theme song, so I'm just kind of brainstorming.
Starting point is 00:50:08 Okay. I don't know. It gets to the heart of the matter. Did you give the special hotline number? I did. Oh, okay. It's also, yeah, it's up there if you're watching. 469 331-3669.
Starting point is 00:50:21 A big weekend of college football. This was sent to me literally a million times from OU-TEP. And I'm not alone in this. I'll watch a game if Ted Emrick is calling it, regardless of who's playing. As Ted works his way up the ladder, he's going to be on late at night occasionally on Saturday nights, Friday nights. And a lot of times it's the game on. So I get a lot of Ted in my life. A lot of listeners do as well.
Starting point is 00:50:50 This is OU-U-TEP from the other night. U-TEP lines up for a field goal. Carlos Aureola, the El Paso native, from 33 yards. Carlos. What was it again? Carlos Ariola. Ariola. From 33 yards.
Starting point is 00:51:12 Line up the kick here. Oriola nips it to the right. No good. So Scotty Walden's team comes up empty after what was a promising drive. I feel like in his recovery there, you can hear that they were laughing. The mics go off for, I believe, seven seconds as both him and his color guy are just fist bumping underneath the table. And then as he tries to rebound, I feel like you can hear him. So Scotty Walden's team comes up empty after what was a promising drive.
Starting point is 00:51:59 Really trying to keep it together. I wonder who was his partner? Because if he's doing something next to Berline, Fossie Whitaker. Burline's unaware, right? Probably, but I think Berline's the exception. Then I was also watching Oregon, Boise State.
Starting point is 00:52:17 Boise State gave Oregon all they could handle, as they will for a group of five team. And I found Dan's favorite new college football player. It makes this third down and eight. Nantes is going to be left. Saddle for the first time today. It's Bull Bull. He just bowed.
Starting point is 00:52:37 There's another Bull Bull. Yeah. There's another one? Like is that Manu Boll's other kid? No. So he had a kid named Bull. Bull, bowl was the number, he was a high draft pick.
Starting point is 00:52:49 Wasn't he one year? Yeah, he wasn't, but he would have been. Oh, that's right. You just remember that he, you think he was. I remember you said he would be a one-one. You can't even get your... But no, Bull Bowls from Canada. Has a lot of players from Boise State.
Starting point is 00:53:05 Yeah. How crazy is it that there are two Bull Bulls running around the world right now? Maybe it's real common, right? If we went over to where... It's John Smith. Where would you say Manu Bull is from, Blake? Somewhere in Africa, right? Florida.
Starting point is 00:53:24 Why doesn't Nestler do NFL? I think he's the best. I don't know. Maybe he doesn't, why, who doesn't want to. I'm sure you'd want to. He feels like college football. He does. He feels like my grandpa.
Starting point is 00:53:37 What about Michigan, dude? I don't know, man. You're not in the fixes in? What are we doing? You don't care at all? Not at all. Why? It's like the big game of the weekend.
Starting point is 00:53:52 To me, talking about the clock at a sporting event is like the trans issue of sports. Like, we don't need to get that tied up. about this it won't come up that often let's move on to something more more important or productive but it said zero yeah well there's no tense there's no hundreds like there's never bothered anybody before the autism in your head doesn't it doesn't bother you that the sports clock isn't down to the one hundredth of the second it drives me fucking crazy well but we've been living in a minute and it clicks to zero and then the guy touches it it said zero yeah but like it doesn't when it was at one on another clock i don't care i just don't this is to me this is
Starting point is 00:54:31 like being in court. It's like, you guys figure this out. And again, it sucks because there's the story that, you know, Western Michigan, that would have been amazing, whatever. But there's also like 140 snaps in a game. So
Starting point is 00:54:48 this is bait, focusing on the one and the one thing at the end of it. It's not what we do. It's not for me. This is how sports is. It's not for me. All right. Now, if you want to talk about the fact that Michigan sucks ass and that I love this blowing up in Dave Portnoy's face. Yeah, they're a favor by like 28 or something, right?
Starting point is 00:55:07 Dickhead from Oracle whose girlfriend went to Michigan, so they threw 15 million at Bryce Underwood, and they're not any good, and their coaches, former coaches in prison. I love it because I... Is he really in prison? If he's not, he will be, dude. He's like stalking and stuff, right? He ran from the cops, threatened his girlfriend with a knife. That's real trouble.
Starting point is 00:55:28 So I think Michigan is a disaster, and I've never really been. met anybody that I remember liking from there. Rich Eisen is who I think of when I think of Michigan. Can't stand him. Fuck them. But I don't care about the clock. This is, I just feel like this is,
Starting point is 00:55:44 it's not fun to talk about. All right. I watched a bunch of different videos and tweets trying to care about it. I really tried to rabbit hole it. It's just such a, a minuscule occurrence that I don't think it's worth our time, my time.
Starting point is 00:56:05 Yeah, I don't know. And I guess you would wonder, would it happen if it was on Western Michigan's home field? No. You know? No. And that's the thing. And you know that going in.
Starting point is 00:56:19 But it's like the refs actually see a different clock than the TV can see, like. Yeah, I mean, this is all fake, right? It's a made-up game that we're making them play and act like it's a real. thing that determines life and death. So there's going to be some holes in the, you know what I mean? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:39 Well, you're going to ruin. The clock in the replay booth is a lot more accurate. It's not what they show on TV. Yeah, but then you get it. There's a guy who hates Western Michigan. They're aiming a camera at the clock, and that's the real clock, and there's this and that. Now, I thought it was funny and interesting that they released the conversation. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:57:00 Yeah, they're talking through it. You know, like, you see he touches the ball here. we got one on the clock. And I'll tell you another thing. Another reason I deduct this story that you're making me talk about. I don't trust my ability to tell what's fake. How about that? No fucking clue anymore.
Starting point is 00:57:15 If the video, like in the video, Bryce Underwood would have had giant boobs. I'm not sure I would have been able to be like, this is not real. I don't know anymore. I think I saw altered videos where time was put back on or whatever. You know, I don't know. You've seen the Kevin James picture with giant boobs, right?
Starting point is 00:57:33 Yes. That's a Blake bad beat. Funny and attractive. So who is my favorite college player? Bowl Bowl. Oh, bowl, that's right. So he's supplanted... For the first time today, it's bowl bowl bowl.
Starting point is 00:57:51 Noah? We're not using Noah. Noah Naysayers no longer. Wouldn't he like a Western player? Eastern. Oh, Eastern Michigan? Yeah. Imagine if he was involved in that final.
Starting point is 00:58:03 Now you got Jake interested. You're a jerk. So I walked, uh, right, I went into today's show thinking, oh, you know what?
Starting point is 00:58:15 Before we get to this next sport story, Trident, Trident garage doors. Um, let's just plug them real quick. That is, talk about, geez,
Starting point is 00:58:23 man, are all our advertisers like this? Didn't you just say that Atlas Foundation company came over to, like, clean up a mess that a different company had made. Yeah. That was the story I had with Trident, Trident Garage doors, when they came out and did the
Starting point is 00:58:40 tune up. They kind of just check everything over, just, how's everything running? My garage door is very noisy. And they're like, yeah, it wasn't installed correctly. Look how it's like ripping out of the wall here. The old company didn't look for the stud. I don't know. They couldn't find Henry.
Starting point is 00:58:57 Yeah. So anyway, they just fixed that up. And now it's perfect. It's smooth. You can't hear anything. It's awesome. They do garage doors. They do gates.
Starting point is 00:59:09 They do installs. I just didn't know the guys at Trident when we got our garage door a couple of years ago. And now I do. And everybody listening is the beneficiary of this great knowledge. And everyone listening will get 10% off on all repairs when you mentioned the dumb zone. At 817, 512, 1212, it's TX Trident.com. Do not try to fix your garage door on your own. Have them take care of it.
Starting point is 00:59:32 I'm going to have them come out and do that weather stripping. You wouldn't dare. You don't challenge me like that. All right. 81751212.12. It's TX Trident.com. Gates and garage doors. So I used to know Angel Hernandez.
Starting point is 00:59:49 Uh-huh. And then you knew who was the other guy? C.B. Buckner. C.B. Buckner. Concussion baseball Buckner. But those guys are now both out of baseball. Or Buckner hasn't worked since like week two. Yeah, concussion?
Starting point is 01:00:02 And yes, they're like he's going to take this opportunity to slide off into the sunset. So who is our new umpire that we all hate? And I've seen videos of this guy before, but I guess it never all came to a head like it had this weekend. Doug Eddings. You're familiar? Were you before? Not really. So I had seen these videos before because now people are looking for the receipts.
Starting point is 01:00:27 And they'll be like, hey, here's a compilation of Doug Eddings this year. And there was like once, you know, pitcher calls for a new ball. So the, you know, I guess he gives the, the catcher gives the ball to the umpire. Like he holds his mid out to, uh, this is the real muto. This is the guy? Catcher holds out his mitt to get the ball from the umpire. He thinks he has the ball. He pulls his mitt back.
Starting point is 01:00:58 the umpire had not yet put the ball into the mitt he dropped the ball and so now it drops to the ground and it's almost like a i'm holding out my hand to shake your hand and then i go psych that wasn't the catcher's intention the catcher wasn't looking back uh and then this umpire ejects him for like psyching me and making me look bad on a majorly baseball field um unless i've been ball sack. That was part of this compilation. There's other times where he's just, well, what he did was, it was Friday and a St. Louis pitcher is making his major league debut, September call up, you know, rosters are expanded. For St. Louis, I think I might have said that. There's one out in the sixth inning. His name is Hensel Rincon. He doesn't speak English.
Starting point is 01:02:00 because the next day he was like, I guess the umpire had to apologize to him. Major League Baseball whacked him on the P.P. And said, you go to apologize to him now. Yeah. There's a video on it. When they interviewed the...
Starting point is 01:02:16 Like my dad talking to the kitchen. The pitcher later, he's like, I didn't really understand anything he said, but I think he was sorry. Anyway, he told the pitcher to adjust his cap. It was on a little side. C.C. Sabathie. like. Yep.
Starting point is 01:02:32 It looked exactly like C.C. Sabathia. But that wasn't it for the game. But it started with that. So now the St. Louis manager comes out to argue about this and gets ejected. Also, when he came out to argue about it, he gave the pitcher, then now there's another pitcher on the field, a pitch clock violation because the, you know, the, manager came out and you ended up taking longer to throw a pitch.
Starting point is 01:03:07 Also, St. Louis was out of reviews or challenges at the end of the game or I can't remember at what point in the game this was. But he had a horrible call at the plate. Like, got to say I've never seen anything like it. One or two feet off like this runner Troy Johnston scored. He called him safe. He was tagged way ahead. used to see stuff like this before we had review.
Starting point is 01:03:35 But they were already out of their challenges so they couldn't review it. Oh, that's right. My bad. You're right. So that's... That's the thing. Okay. St. Louis had already challenged something else.
Starting point is 01:03:46 It was a bang, bang, play. They got it wrong. And at this time, they can't challenge. Got it. Where it was quite obvious. So as he's ejecting the manager, I guess he told him, what did he tell him? Not on my field, right? Yes.
Starting point is 01:04:06 He's not going to wear a hat like that. That kid's not going to wear his hat like that on my field. Yeah. And the manager's like, last I checked, this is Corse Field. So I took issue with it. Yeah, it's a fun back and forth. I like the note where Eddings tried to put it on the catcher. Okay, so Eddings, wait.
Starting point is 01:04:31 He tried to say that the Rockies catcher. Oh, Eddings, yeah. Or rather the Cardinals catcher had said, hey, maybe a batterer or Rocky's battered said, is he allowed to wear his hat like that? Like saying it was distracted. The reason I brought it up, yes, is because of this other guy told me. And that's so I'm just checking on it. And the other guy when they interviewed him, of course.
Starting point is 01:04:51 Yes. And Rocky Stafford. I never said anything like that. Said none of the team's hitters ever mentioned his hat. He was also one of the many players, every player the next day, all wore their hats like that both teams. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:06 Little Labor Day Union Solidarity Celebration. Yeah. I like it. But anyway, this guy's a red ass. Just watching the compilations are really funny. Dude, when he ejects the Cardinals manager, he is, he might as well be dancing out there. Like, he's doing a performance. He's pointing out to the, it's insane.
Starting point is 01:05:27 I couldn't find this video this morning, but I saw this over the weekend, too. so this is a bad thing to say, but the, the crowd, when he upheld the challenge, so St. Louis had challenged a play earlier, but it went against them, but it was after the whole hat incident. So he's like pissed at St. Louis overall now. He ejected the manager. He's telling this guy to straighten his hat. So once they got the, the challenge was incorrect, I guess he kind of vociferously, he was like, That call is uphill, like to the pointing at the camera and all this kind of stuff.
Starting point is 01:06:07 And the crowd went nuts because it's at Coorsfield or Eddingsfield at the end of it. But it's fun. Fun that we learn not only is baseball still being played at this point of the year. Oh. But that what? You're not wrong. Yeah. Football's going on, man.
Starting point is 01:06:29 It's two and a half games. And for what I have. I also learned this morning the WNBA playoffs. Did you know that play? Oh, wow. Well, I was just very confused because I turned TV on yesterday, and it's like a Team USA women's basketball game. I'm like, I thought they run the fucking playoffs.
Starting point is 01:06:45 What are we doing? I guess they play international play in the middle of the playoffs. I'm not sure. I got another baseball thing for you. Interested. Which is, I read this. So there's a, baseball has a problem, and they want to change the rules.
Starting point is 01:07:05 position players pitching because it's happening a lot. So this article I was reading about this indicated that 20 years ago, so what is that? 2006, not once did a position player come in to pitch during a blowout. There was nobody, remember it used to be a very rare thing. Jose Canseco did it for the Rangers, famously blew out his arm. So 20 years ago, no one did it at all. Like they went through a season and not once did that happen. 10 years ago, 24 times in the Major League Baseball season.
Starting point is 01:07:50 So that's not a lot if you have 162 games for every team. But 24 times, certainly more than zero. This year, 135 times. Damn. Has a position player come in to mop up a game in a blowout or whatever. In fact, Carlos Cortez, who is an A, he's on the athletics, has pitching nine games this year.
Starting point is 01:08:20 Shut up. And he's an infielder. Okay. So what baseball is, the problem here is like, let's say last week, the Cubs set a franchise record by hitting nine home runs in a game against the Brewers, one short of the Major League record. three of those home runs were hit off the brewer's first basement. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:45 In fact, Andrew Vaughn pitched to 18 different Cubs that night. He's the first baseman. But they didn't want to mess with any of their bullpen. So they throw Andrew Vaughn out just to lob them up there. Who was it? Walker Jenkins is a top prospect for the twins. he had his first career home run, but he laughed when he hit it because it was a utility man, Zach McKinstree through a 37-mile-per-hour Ephes pitch, and he hit a home run on it.
Starting point is 01:09:22 But it was his major league day. It was his first home run in the Bigs. And then this article kind of says, last year, many were saying, Shohei Otani had the greatest hitting performance in baseball history. He went six for six, had three home runs and 10 RBI against the Marlins. His three-run home run and his final at bat was off an infielder. So would you say that was the greatest game in history if he had seven RBI and two home runs? You would not.
Starting point is 01:09:59 So this is just a thing that I don't, you know, it's one of those. many things that just creeps up on you and then all of a sudden it's this huge problem. But that's what's going on in Major League Baseball. I do wonder how much throughout history, like, okay, so it wasn't a reliever or it wasn't a position player, but it was a guy who was just out there and didn't give a shit. Well, I mean, it happens when a guy is just getting hammered and you keep them out there. And how many of those, like, if we went through games in history that we revere and that we only know from the 30,000 foot view 70 years later, where, we're in a little bit of the game?
Starting point is 01:10:33 of the great games that you remember against the guy who was just drunk because they didn't think he was going to, I don't know. How many of Babe Ruth's home runs came against a farmer? I mean, that's a tricky thing about baseball being like, we're going to protect this, but I don't know. That is, and it's a weird thing about baseball in general, that there are two types of players. Right? I mean, that in itself creates a problem that you can, you're designated as a type of player,
Starting point is 01:11:01 but you can do the other thing if they need you to. It's a weird setup. I wanted to briefly tell you about a very long article I read about Mike Vrable and Diana Rusini. Are there pictures? No, it's not the pictures. It's the ESPN long form. Let's get ready for the season. Here's what people are saying.
Starting point is 01:11:23 And nobody within the team cares about this. I always thought that was a little bit of a silly. How's the team going to react to? The team full of NFL players who all have five phones because they're running through different. I mean, yeah. Now, you could make the case, I guess, if you're a preached discipline guy,
Starting point is 01:11:46 but it's the NFL. And there's some quotes in here that I thought, we're interesting. A Patriot source said, his leadership was never tied to how he lived his personal life, noting things would be different if Rabel were a pastor responsible for shepherding souls
Starting point is 01:11:59 and exemplifying morality. But the upshot of this article really is that women reporters are now worried about doing their job. Like no female reporters want to be photographed at a coffee with just an NFL coach or a coordinator. And there's a bunch of coaches in here that gave anonymous quotes that they all feel that they're being surveilled now. Like among NFL circles and within front off, like in. coaching circles that they're like talking to each other about you should be aware of the idea that someone's probably following you and don't like don't F up right now because I mean the athletic let her go they said that she Rusini violated their newsroom standards they found no bias in
Starting point is 01:12:51 her coverage but I don't know what that would have looked like um so she's not working anywhere else no one else got fired but I think this was a giant like through the group chats of the NFL and the NFL wives of, hey, what's going on here? And every, you know, you know what it makes me think of. And maybe it's because I, like I told you guys, like I want to write a joke about this. Like, you always read the stuff from war. And it's like a letter back to their lady. And it's like, oh, it sucks so bad here.
Starting point is 01:13:25 Like, it's terrible. I miss you so much. If that's the only account we have a war, I do that. when I go on the road. Right. All those boys could have been, it might not have been that bad. And I think for a long time,
Starting point is 01:13:37 NFL coaches have been like, I just got to be gone for like 16 hours a day. Probably need my own place to watch film. Right. This fucking film falling out of my ears. And the wives are like, okay, fine, I guess you make $5 million.
Starting point is 01:13:50 I guess that's what we're doing. And now they're all like, uh, I'm getting a lot of questions. It says that. Like one coach source is like, imagine coming home from a 16-hour day, and the first thing your wife says is, did you see this?
Starting point is 01:14:05 Showing you news about the Mike Frable, Diana Rusini thing. I thought that was interesting. These guys have a lot of control, but they all do kind of want to stay married. And they don't like that he created this perception that they all do this and it got out. Yeah. No. And then her thing on being an NFL insider. Is this out of bounds, you know, for her to get some extra info?
Starting point is 01:14:37 Maybe they actually liked each other. Yeah. It's a source thing. But let's say that she didn't like him, but she wanted to get info and she was doing it with her body. Is that different than Jay Glazer befriending NFL coach it? Like they always talk about the Jay Glazer whatever, barbecue or something. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:00 He's buddy, buddy, buddy with all these coaches. does he really like them all? Or is he butting up and inviting him to his poker game because that will help him get information that others don't get? What's, you know, it's very slippery. They also kind of try to pin him on, and I don't know, maybe this is performative, but it's kind of one of those things where if it's good, who cares?
Starting point is 01:15:27 But are you aware of his, like, giving a female the first question thing? No, I didn't know that. Rable? Yeah, he's always done it. And there was like a veteran reporter up there that had been there forever. He did it in Tennessee. He basically finds like Christie scales and puts him on. Now you could say, all right, this is a guy who is just doing this so you'll think he likes women.
Starting point is 01:15:51 I would put forth the idea that he both, because there's some quotes in here where it's like, I just thought he was a guy who understood how tough this business is for women and wouldn't do something like I think it's possible that he understands how hard it is with women, for women and also just wanted to have sex with Diana Rusini and never really thought, boy, this is bad for women in media. Maybe those two things can't exist at the same time. Both things can be true. It's like you always say that two things can be true.
Starting point is 01:16:20 Yeah, I mean, I don't think the guy hates women. I think he probably stepped out on his wife. Not good, but I don't think like negates everything he ever did. I'm trying to Google it real quick. Wasn't there like a female reporter in the locker room controversy when Vrable was playing for the Patriots? Does anybody else remember this? The only one I remember is Sam Weish in the 90s saying that women reporters shouldn't be in the locker room. Shouldn't be in their locker room, but I thought it was...
Starting point is 01:16:52 It's possible, and I just don't recall. So, yeah, they're in a tough space. because they should not have won as much as they won last year. They had a very easy schedule. They now have a very hard schedule. And it just, it seems like if things don't go well for them out of the gate, this is going to be the sort of the deal. You just don't want to have to talk about it.
Starting point is 01:17:21 You don't want to have to ask questions about it. But if they start one and three, people will. All right, it was not while he was playing. It was in 1990, Boston Herald Reporter, Lisa Olson was sexually harassed by several Patriots players led by Zeke Moat, who exposed themselves and made lewd gestures while she was attempting to conduct a routine locker room interview. They were firing their wiener out. Were any of them fired or disciplined?
Starting point is 01:17:56 Yeah, unlikely. Unlikely. Okay, is it a different age? The NFL launched an independent investigation resulted in fines for players and the organization. The team's owner at the time, Victor Kayam, inflamed the situation by publicly dismissing Olson as a, quote, intruder and a, quote, classic bitch. Oh, my God. The owner? Classic bitch. God, we're losing recipes. You don't hear that anymore. That's great. That is great.
Starting point is 01:18:39 You're going to take a break? Sure. Should have. Hello. I'm Ambassador Herschel worker. I have an important message for Americans visiting or living in the Bahamas. The beautiful waters here are one of the reasons people love to visit these islands. But I need to warn you about some serious dangers associated with renting jet skis and small watercrafts and swimming at beaches where jet skis where jet skis.
Starting point is 01:19:09 and small watercrafts are being operated in shadow waters, particularly around Nassau and Paradise Island. We've lost America's lives to preventable accidents. Multiple visitors have been hospitalized. America have also been sexual assaulted by jet sea operators who take victims to isolated islands. Many of watercrafts are unsafe and operators are unlicensed and uninsured. That's why U.S. government employees are a ban from renting or riding jet skis. We're working with the government of the Bahamas to address these issues. But for now, considering all the risks before you get on a jet ski in the Bahamas, your safety matters.
Starting point is 01:19:54 If you need help, contact the MSA immediately. You're listening to The Dumb Zone. Let's promote that tomorrow is generally business Wednesday, but we will be working. We'll be doing the program. Today is our Monday. So our Wednesday was actually yesterday, and that is brought to us by Sean Kernan, our friend over at 360 Wealth Management. Brings us Business Wednesday.
Starting point is 01:20:31 No puppet. Every week. He's at Dallas Financial Planner.net. Or you can email him, seen, S-E-A-N, at 360wm.net. I think he said, you know, don't spend too much on your website. website. That's one of his financial things. It's like, do a dot net. Don't be, don't be afraid of that. And you two can have a first down. I have a first down. I have a little bit of shoddy for you. The Cowboys. The season's over? No, I think he's having a press conference today. So this is from a couple days ago. But they're having a press conference because Tyler Smith, oddly.
Starting point is 01:21:22 he's going to have surgery. We'll be on IR and will not be available for the first. Is it four games? Like it'll be available, they say, for Tampa. They're like, we got to have all, everybody's got to be here for Tampa. I can say whatever. You don't know. I say oddly enough because this is something they said he's been trying to work through.
Starting point is 01:21:47 And then right now, one week before the season starts, Let's decide, actually, let's do surgery. Where if I was to second guess all of this, I would say, whoa, what if you did the surgery a couple of months ago? What are you a doctor? You're better than that. I thought that we're in the day and age of second-guessing doctors. I believe that's what we all do now. Do my own research.
Starting point is 01:22:12 No, the timing is weird. I don't understand it. I'm probably not going to understand it. I'm also a little bit miffed by the general, oh, just when I bought in on the Cowboys. They're losing a guard. Very good, maybe the best. Maybe the best guard.
Starting point is 01:22:29 It might be their best left tackle. Yeah, true. But come on. It's the NFL. You're going to have, yeah, this is the first of many, many, many players that will be lost for a certain amount of time this year. And not just on the Cowboys. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:46 All right. So, Shottie. I just noted a couple things. It's real quick. But I just wanted you to, do you want to fact-check this when he says something like this? You know, give you guys a great story. I might have said. Subjective, you know. Give you guys a great story. I might have said it, but I'm going to say it again. So when I was QC in Kansas City.
Starting point is 01:23:11 It's not a great story, whatever he got into. He thinks every story he tells, man. Well, this is later in the press conference. Here's a fun story, so I interviewed. Why don't you just coach football? What if you just did that? All his stories, though, are to remind you that he's been around. Here's a fun story, so I interviewed with Nick Sabin.
Starting point is 01:23:34 Well, coach, you dropped something. When I was leaving the Jets in 2011. Yeah, it's me, the greatest of all time. Me and Sabes. I was a QC at Kansas City. Work his way up. No one ever asked that. How'd you get on with the Chiefs?
Starting point is 01:23:56 Okay, this is one other thing that ends with a shortened word, but he's talking about Christian Parker. And we love Christian Parker, right? We love the defense. We love Christian Parker, probably the best hire that's ever been made. Why can't you just let me have something nice? Just for once. I think it's a good hire, too, but it is like,
Starting point is 01:24:16 can we slow down and see a regular season play before we decide? Hypothetically, if you were married to a woman, this could be a man who didn't perform a certain act like at all. You just had been married and you're like, I just somehow ended up in a relationship where this doesn't happen. And you get divorced. It doesn't matter if the first person you meet after that that does it is the worst that's ever done it. You're going to be like, where do you want to eat tonight? Yeah, no. Can I get your car wash today?
Starting point is 01:24:50 Do you want all my money? You'll do anything. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So you're looking at Christian Parker and you're looking at Caleb Downing. And he hasn't really done much yet, you know, and I'm already just tent pitched. So let me have it. Well, this is one of the funny things that I think it's funny that you are pitching your tent about when he says something like this. Walk by his office this morning.
Starting point is 01:25:13 Not surprised. Caleb Downs sitting in there. door closed watching film. What? They keep saying this as if no other coaches watch film with players. Like he's like, oh man,
Starting point is 01:25:25 there's always a player in there. Always a player in there watching. He's a coach. They used to be in his office. Like, but was Iber Fluse in there like with a solitaire cards? And he's just like literal or is he playing a board game or like what? I mean, dude,
Starting point is 01:25:43 you say that. He is a coach. who is meeting with players. Remember what... And this is like, whoa, what news? Sade would tell us, Mike Zimmer flat out hated Trayvon Diggs. And vice versa.
Starting point is 01:25:55 Well, the whole team ended up... History shines. Well, sure, but I'm... He's on the right side of history. Again, you're saying, what was Eber Fliss doing? And I feel like, just not that. And by doing the bare minimum, this guy's shining.
Starting point is 01:26:09 Well, anyway, let's talk about Christian Parker, and we will end with a short word of fun. Walk by his office this morning. Not surprised. Caleb Downs sitting in there. Door closed, watching film. But if you don't have that, I think it hurts your ability to critique, coach, coach hard, call out. I mean, those are all things we do.
Starting point is 01:26:32 You know, if guys make a mistake, we call them out, you know, and that's part of our job. And that's part of our job description. And they need to know you love them and care about them. And so if you don't spend the time doing that, then, you know, to me, you're missing an op. Of course. I don't mind using ops, but I don't like using it like that.
Starting point is 01:26:51 I think it should be reserved for opposition. Careful, the ops are near. It's an opportune of what? T. That's right. Yeah, thanks. And finally, though, I wanted to just give you this. This was something that he did reveal.
Starting point is 01:27:06 They were talking about, they asked him about Quinn and Williams, maybe even the question's in here. But then you'll hear a little something. So what is that kind of show him? kind of what you expect and anticipate from Quinnon this year? Well, good leading. So I will announce the four captains that were just selected this morning
Starting point is 01:27:25 for the 2026 NFL season. On defense, you have Quinnon Williams. On defense, you have Kenny Clark. On offense, you have Dak Prescott. And on special teams, you have Brandon Aubrey. But back to your question about Quinnon. So Brandon Aubrey. Yes.
Starting point is 01:27:47 Captain. Now. Star of many H.E.B. television ads that I saw on my screen this weekend. Is it interesting that, that's not the four highest paid players on the team, or is it? No. Not even close. Well, close-ish. Jack?
Starting point is 01:28:10 Yeah, but. Quinn and Williams. CD and. Oh, CD, the wide. receivers. Well, we're not going to, we're certainly not making them captains. Right. Yeah. No one is going to follow them into, they're the guys saying, why don't you stay out a little
Starting point is 01:28:27 bit later. Come on. It's Vegas. Come on. Get one more. Look, what are they going to do? They can't suspend you that long. You're that important.
Starting point is 01:28:36 Yeah. Anyway, yeah. No, he did reveal that that was voting by the players. And at least Shottie, if you want to believe him, he said, last year, year. Remember last year there was like 12 captains? It was insane. Letting a lady and her bridesmaids, you know? Yeah. But he said this year, he said the voting, there was a huge gap. And like those four received tons of votes and then, you know, the next. So he's like, we can only make these four the captains. You're not going to hear
Starting point is 01:29:09 about him a ton. And it's not entirely his fault that he may have a little bit of a negative perception because he was involved in the mica trade, but I think they think Kenny Clark is a big deal from like having a man in charge. Like you don't have DeMarcus Lawrence anymore. You don't have... Like DeMarcus Lawrence was always very DeMarcus Lawrence islandy. No, I feel like DeMarcus Lawrence was... Oh, you thought he was more of a... I thought he was the leader. Micah was the island guy. Well, yeah, but then once...
Starting point is 01:29:40 DeMarcus Lawrence hated Micah. Yeah, for sure. But if you're the leader... You think you'd get everybody on board. I just think they have- Like I wouldn't ever jump on board with Marcus Lawrence because he was his own thing. Yes. And now I feel like they have, I feel like they think Kenny Clark is the guy
Starting point is 01:29:54 who's like the man in the room. I want to make sure we get, we can do this in closing remarks, but I know Vijay has stuff on like OJ. Do you want to do everything at the end? No, no, no, right now. Okay. Tevo.
Starting point is 01:30:09 Oh, excellent. Hey, let me make it brought to us by flooring direct DFW.com slash DZ it's new floor season now around my house that might last
Starting point is 01:30:27 it's like a WNBA season it's always on yeah not their issue though they're being very patient with you well they have a lot of choices and then some people are like whoa I need to look at every one of them
Starting point is 01:30:41 that's my wife and no but we are getting new floors from Flooring Direct dfw.com slash dZ they go right to your house they are awesome they bring the showroom to you they have a addison showroom but you don't have to go there you can uh just go to flooring direct dfdbcum slash dz set up a free appointment they'll come out to your house um that's preferable you know have the samples in your house with your lighting see how it looks there next to your wall with your uh right yeah i was just thinking like does anybody ever while
Starting point is 01:31:15 there, like pour some blood on the sample just to kind of see. Let's just see. Like, oh, it's fine. I just needed to see something real quick. That's awesome. Flooring direct, dfW.com slash dZ ask about the samples. Yeah. I got nothing but football on my TV all weekend.
Starting point is 01:31:39 Yeah. And WNBA. No. So, yeah, let's talk TiVo. a little bit. Did you hear us talk about the OJ? Yeah, I didn't watch Juist the actual prank show, but I was like, well, I want to watch the documentary.
Starting point is 01:31:55 I didn't know if you guys were going to have watched it. So I watched the first episode. It's on HBO Max. Okay, I know we promoted it when we first heard that this was coming out like a month ago, but I haven't seen it yet. OJ unseen. It's worth watching. Once you see the first episode,
Starting point is 01:32:09 you'll understand how they're going to make four hours out of a one hour, weird, never should have been made. thing. Well, let me just tell you this. You know that after you watch the show. Well, spoil as much as, yeah, episode one as you want to. Yeah, I think it, yeah. Well, I, there's a few things, and for one, and we all remember Punked. I like Punked. I loved punked at the time. The claim was made that Punked changed how we watched TV. I'm not entirely sure what that would mean. Yeah, like I say a bunch, John Quignonis had this idea forever. Like the hidden camera, are you being watched, or what would you do?
Starting point is 01:32:49 Candid camera. Candid camera was like in the 50s or something. Yes. Yeah. Who says punk change TV? The show. It was one of the talking heads. HBO?
Starting point is 01:33:00 Yeah, it was one of the talking heads, some media analyst who I didn't recognize. And so I thought that was interesting. I thought Jamel Hill is in it. And you know what? We all misspeak sometimes. They should have given her another take. But she had a great quote. She said, OJ was the one who said, I'm not black, I'm OJ.
Starting point is 01:33:20 And I was interested in who else would have said that. It would have been very funny if it wasn't OJ who said that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a lot of great characters in this. Like the guy, I don't know if this is actually induced, but in the one where they have the, they're trying out the backup singers. That's what they focus on in the first episode. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:33:42 And there's a fake fight between him and the, the guy who wrote the rap song. So I don't know if that made it too juiced, but it's in the behind the scenes. And so this guy who wrote, he is the biggest douchebag. He is somehow a bigger douchebag than the guy who actually created juiced, who is also a douchebag in his own right. And none of these people are apologetic. Even when they say they're apologetic, they are not apologetic.
Starting point is 01:34:06 And it is, and it is fascinating to see them interviewed. So they're interviewing the guy that came up with the concept? The guy that came up with it and his right-hand man who wrote, the rap songs and stuff, who he had done backyard babes for this guy. And what's funny is, in all seriousness, this guy who's his right-hand man says, and he had given me that break on backyard babes, I couldn't let him down. Like in all seriousness. That's a game changer if you get that door opened.
Starting point is 01:34:37 The main guy says, I'm a cartoonist by DNA. That's what he kind of wanted to be. As he sits here in like red glasses with like a bar behind him with like a perfectly manicured dyed goate, he also mentions that he has a PhD in chaos. But in the same quote says what other people call chaos he calls just another Tuesday. So do you have a PhD in chaos or not? Just another Tuesday PhD? Yeah, that doesn't, those don't go together. But I like that he really wanted to be a cartoonist.
Starting point is 01:35:14 And then he just fell into this. And OJ says a thing. He's talking about the naked gun movies. And he's saying the reason he was funny in those, the reason he was successful is I'm not the type of guy who people imagine would be drug under a bus or folded up in a bed. But who would want to imagine it would be drug under a bus or folded up in a bed? Like who does what imagine? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:35:39 Yeah. He's not the deepest guy in the world. and I'm excited to listen to him talk for kind of four hours. Do you think they're playing the he's going to admit it angle too much? Not so much in the first episode. Because I don't think they need that for this to be interesting. They're trying to claim a couple of times in the first episode that, well, that's what we really wanted.
Starting point is 01:36:02 That's what we were doing. But then they don't really back that up. Maybe in later episodes they will. I mean, maybe they were hoping that just because it would be weird and interesting. And obviously then that would make them more famous. but I don't think that was the goal of the show. The goal of the show was just to make something trashy and make money. I think that's really clear once you see.
Starting point is 01:36:21 But 20 years later, you can say, oh, yeah, that's what we were trying to do. Yeah. Pump up from info. Yeah. Yeah. And I guess the other thing, and this might be super obvious, but the other thing that really occurred to me, and if I'd watched Juiced, again, maybe it's obvious then. But it hadn't, I've heard about this show forever, about the existence of it.
Starting point is 01:36:39 But it hadn't really occurred to me that there's this extra level of, Yeah, it's not just, oh, this is like a prank and it's OJ Simpson, that's weird. And it's like, especially with the backup singers when you're dealing with like women in their early 20s. And this is a dude who probably killed a woman. And so you're not, it's not just the humiliation possibly of I've been drug out here under false premises and false pretense. And this is, I've been pranked. It's also, oh my God. Yes.
Starting point is 01:37:11 Yeah. Yeah, there's a fucking tight. It's actually scary. Yeah. That's what I said. That's what I said. It was like, it's like, oh, it's a lion. There's a lion here.
Starting point is 01:37:19 Yeah. It is very. And they, I mean, they play, they surround him with women in between the shots. Like, it's not like he's hanging out with his buddies. The whole thing is like, O.J. gets pussy. Like, they're just constantly trying to let you know that. And again, he, you know, was kind of famous for killing a lady because he got jealous. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:37:39 And even if you don't believe, even if you don't believe he did that, he at least beat her up tons of times, you know? Yeah. But like those are my major takeaways, but it was, it was a really fast watch, totally worth watching because it's insane. And it's a flashback to that era of like, what were we doing? Like what was going on? Why would we, why would we do this kind of thing?
Starting point is 01:38:00 Bum fights and little people and Joe Francis. So was it released? Yeah. Oh, juice, I don't know. That is unclear. That is very unclear. Yeah. Like, can we put it on our web, our YouTube page or no?
Starting point is 01:38:17 No, it did. Jake got mad at us last time we talked about this. Jake got mad? Uh-huh. I see Clayton shaking his head, but Clayton tells us no for everything. Well, no, I don't think it, and I'm not trying to be. It's not nudity. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:27 You can't have nudity on YouTube? I mean, it's full on. I blurt it. You did. You put some dumb zone logos over the honkers, which was tasteful. But no, you'd have to do the whole, there's tits in the whole thing. It's disgusting. And I'm a gross person.
Starting point is 01:38:44 But I was like my skin was crawling watching it. Because I just, I hate that era. Like that, again, that Tommy Lee, like Joe Francis. That's why I was surprised Big Dick Hunter was such a cool guy. Because he is very much of that like milieu of just gross. Fucking Chris Angel. Like just, like, glad we wiped that clean. Well, if you know Jason from the internet, you can get it.
Starting point is 01:39:09 Yeah. Look, I've emailed it to five, six people. If you email me, I will send you juiced. Okay, we'll send it to VJ. But I'm going to give your email to Hunter Biden for his meme. Our next president. I forgot the... Oh, you got TiVo.
Starting point is 01:39:26 Just quick. I forgot the juice thing was coming out. And so I watched the pastor's wife because that's the number one thing on Netflix for the past week or two. And, you know, they shove it down your throat a little bit. Death of the pastor's wife. Death of the pastor's wife. that out last time. And so what that,
Starting point is 01:39:46 you haven't seen this? No, I didn't know about this. I think it's worthy. It is like, there's so many people abusing and killing their wives. Let me tell you something. It's just like another one of these.
Starting point is 01:40:00 You ever, because I feel like there's a farm system. And it starts right here on the Dumb Zone news desk. This is the fucking source, right? But then maybe it, makes it to Dateline. Because you ever turn on Dateline on Friday? They got four of these women
Starting point is 01:40:17 that their profile and they got killed every week. Yeah. And then if, then that's like a feeder system, one of those is going to make it to Netflix. And Netflix has the pick of the litter. There's so many of these stories that you don't ever hear about. Yeah, when are women going to learn to just
Starting point is 01:40:33 obey their husband? He's stressed. It's really what we're thinking. So that was one of the big things. This is a pastor. and so it's not like, I guess anybody can be a pastor, right? I kind of heard Liz Brunig talking about this a little bit like blaming, denomination blaming or victim blaming her, you know, just the fact that, you know, he's just guy who grows up and can just say, I want to be a preacher.
Starting point is 01:41:01 Obviously, the Catholic is going to say that. Right, that's what I mean. But yes, it was weird to me when I was growing up. Because here's the other thing, too. it's always like, and maybe this is how it needs to be, right? Because I personally think we should always have an alcoholic as president. Go to AA and you're like, these are the people who should be in charge. They figured it out.
Starting point is 01:41:21 At the same time, it feels weird to me when I was in church, like every one of the guys who was telling me, like, this is how you should do it? They had all fucked up, like, royally. I'm like, well, is there anybody in here who just didn't do that? Like, what if, like, because this is this guy, right? the pastor here, his life is busted from jump. Now, did you say you just watched episode three? Yeah. I feel like that's...
Starting point is 01:41:52 She was watching it, and I was like, yeah, because there's no chance I was ever going to watch all three of them. Okay. But she was, like, here's the story. And I got to be honest. She caught you up. I'm not, this is not a... I grew up very much in this, like, environment.
Starting point is 01:42:09 and still have family members, like she has family members who are going through being like assaulted by their youth pastor like right now. This is, I'm not saying the first two would have provided me nothing, but I saw a lot of this. Well, it's very interesting like when you see the visual, because now, you know, this just happened a couple years ago. So you have all video. And what you have is video of when the girl, the lady who dies eventually,
Starting point is 01:42:37 the death of the pastor's wife. When they first moved into town and joined the church, that was the same pastor was leading the thing. He was married, and she was 13. So that's when he met her. My God. I think he was like probably 20, maybe, 19. In his 20s, I don't know that he was...
Starting point is 01:43:03 He was young, but he wasn't... But he was married. He was definitely married, you know. She would go on to get married. He already had kids. So, yeah, she would go on to get married to her high school sweetheart. And that's when they started, you know, messing around together and all that. And it seemed like a big part of his sermon or at least the clips that they found.
Starting point is 01:43:26 You know, he had hundreds of hours of his sermons. And a lot of it was, hey, you got to, if you say no to sex with, your husband, that's like sexual assault, basically. And if you say no to sex, you have to understand, there's 20 women out there that will be ready to have sex with your husband. So it's a little victim blaming here. It's your fault probably. That's what I'm saying here. So if you, and he did say, you know, I only preach about things that are affecting my life as well. From a legal standpoint, it becomes very clear that was a tricky statement for him because her lawyer is very focused on that idea.
Starting point is 01:44:11 Now, she ended up committing suicide, or at least it was ruled a suicide. Her family members questioned that. It seems like everything led to. And then the thought is, well, it's suicide by abuse. Like he abused her so much that this was the only course of action she felt she had left, you know, leaving the church, your whole lie, all that kind of stuff. what I was going to say after watching this is that you have to feel sorry for his pastor, the guy, because his wife died. And then he, if you remember the argument I've had with my wife for many years, we knew a, or down the street somebody, a lady with a few kids, her husband died in a plane crash.
Starting point is 01:44:54 And she said, I feel really sorry for that lady. She has to live. And I said, I feel more sorry for the man who's now dead. And she, to this day, will argue with me about that, that she feels that I'm in the wrong. Yeah. And I kind of feel the dead person is the one I feel more sorry for. Right. No matter how they died, even if it was at suicide by because her husband was really mean or if it was a plane crash.
Starting point is 01:45:24 There's just a lot of opacity to the way the church works. You know, it's not a public institution. You can kind of just hide in there. And people get away with a lot, particularly on the male-female side of things. Before we do the news, I'm about to hit the news open. It's going to be brought to us by Pancho. Clayton, I have some news.
Starting point is 01:45:49 I'm extremely low on battery, and can you bring me your battery pack? I don't know how this happened. It always lasts throughout the whole show. I must have a lot of tabs open. That's your new update. Goddance. Thank you. That new update is killing me. I'm not able to search things now.
Starting point is 01:46:05 So it's poncho outdoors.com slash dumbzone. Get you one of these bad boys. Thank you. Poncho shirts. College football season is here. They've got what you need. They've got tailgating, fishing, hunting shirts.
Starting point is 01:46:20 UPF 50 plus built in right there. So you can just be out all day. I was going to say a not wear sunscreen. But I feel like that's probably against some sort of rule. Well, poncho outdoors.com slash dumbzone. It'll get you $10 bucks off and free shipping. Load up on these shirts. You got the long sleeve.
Starting point is 01:46:39 You can wear them for dress shirts. It's got the short sleeve. It's great if you're a sweaty boy like me. It's got wicking away performance. That sounds terrible. Performance fabric. Poncho outdoors.com slash dumb zone. We're going to do, Here's Jake with the Dumbzone news.
Starting point is 01:46:56 When Blake fires it off. And then I'm going to charge it from me. And Oriola nips it. To the right. Dang it. It's close. This is close. This is all my bad.
Starting point is 01:47:08 Well-oiled machine, Mitchell. Okay, so our guest today are headed to the airport after this. DFW is one of 13 airports now where you can walk up to the gate with someone without having a ticket. What? That's awesome. We're going back, folks. Very exciting. Suck it.
Starting point is 01:47:32 Sama. The terrorist didn't win after all. Give us a long, you know, it's like Obama said, right? Why? When? Why? How? The world arc of the universe bends towards justice.
Starting point is 01:47:42 What's the point? There is something called gate side by TSA precheck. And if you've got precheck, you can now... Oh, this is going to ruin everything. What do you mean? Why? Because then your wife would be like, oh, no, I walk right up to the gate with me. Because now it's like, oh, I got to drop her off here.
Starting point is 01:47:59 Sorry. Mistress is already waiting in there. Honestly, no. There's a pretty good chance that guys getting just hammered had something to do with this. Like the wife's like, can I? Maybe I stay at the gate till the boarding time. Yeah. Feels like you.
Starting point is 01:48:18 Have seen that before? Might have you. You got a sort of coming up next. Yes. You got pre-check. You can use your known traveler number to apply. Use the dedicated pre-check lanes. Yeah, don't tell my wife about this.
Starting point is 01:48:28 I mean, it's not my fault that I can't go up there. I would love to. I would wave to the plane, everything. Run alongside the plane. Stowe myself. You might have seen this. This hit Friday right before or right after the show, but there was a flight.
Starting point is 01:48:44 I think it was going from DFW, out of DFW to Baltimore, Washington. And a dude lost it so bad that they had to duct tape him to his seat. I don't know if you've seen the image, but it is... I did see the image. It is really, really funny. I thought it was AI. I thought I'd been boss out.
Starting point is 01:49:07 I was like, I don't believe this. I still don't believe it. That's not real. It's definitely real. I've seen a bunch of different, yeah, he's trying to do, in Fast 5, there's a scene where the rock is in the hospital and his arm is in a cast, but it's time for him to go. And so he looks at his daughter and says, Daddy's got to go to work and he flexes and the cast breaks off. That's what he's trying to do.
Starting point is 01:49:29 And definitely this guy's been to Game Day Tucson, which is where he's from. He's ripped. Those delts. Definitely. Definitely hitting the delts. So this dude, they had to duct tape him to the seat mid-flight. And then who does it? Okay, it was headed to Newark.
Starting point is 01:49:45 Because I've, most flights I've been on, I don't think the stewardesses could duct-taped me. Okay. Even when it's a dude. That's kind of something I wanted to talk about. So TMZ reported this first. They say that he was using racist and anti-gay slug. and he hit the passenger next to him and hit his laptop. Flight attendant tries to calm him down.
Starting point is 01:50:07 Then he called the flight attendant racial and homophobic slurs. And so I don't want to defend this guy at all. That's not my intention. But it occurs to me, as I've been flying a lot in the last couple of months, I have, I think, made enough money now to where I'm okay if everyone, everyone thinks I'm racist. So I'm just going to say this. Generally, middle-aged or 40-something-year-old straight white guy, his happiness index is low.
Starting point is 01:50:41 If I had to choose a guy or a person to be on a plane in a hospitality role, they would rank very low. Gay black guy would rank high. 65-year-old gilf lady, very high. These are jobs where I feel like being in a good mood is important. And guy who profiles as Dan or Blake don't want him in that job. But gay black guy, gay guy in general, black lady, these people generally have better vibes about them. So, to some extent, I almost feel like these white guys are getting fucking honeypotted because this guy's not seen a gay black guy in person, maybe ever.
Starting point is 01:51:25 and now he's on this tube hammered and he's like there's one I can't believe there's a real one here and he's effed up and he gets mad and he just starts saying I mean the guy's obviously a homophobe and a racist but it is kind of interesting if you think about it that our most contentious spot 30,000 feet drunk in a tube is kind of where you get the most interactions with people who are not like each other not at all
Starting point is 01:51:54 They would never find themselves in the same room. Never. But you look at him, I feel like he kind of likes it. There's part of me that wonders if he wanted to get taped to that chair. If he is like going to be thinking about this is a bad beat for him. Like there's just like he just, there's just something about it. And also who's going to do it? Dude, you, you, every, well, every 40-year-old white dude, all that plane wants to tape this guy up. They've been waiting.
Starting point is 01:52:20 Just like everyone, you know, everyone carrying a gun is like, you know, one day someone's going to come in this restaurant and I'm going to take him out. Yep. Trust me, Terry. Was he sitting in first class or did someone have to make room? I think he was sitting in first class. I think. Blake, you gave up your seat to him.
Starting point is 01:52:38 And so who's got a... He was already sitting there. They have a roll of duct tape on the plane. Every plane, is that part of the... That's a good question. Look how bloody, too. He's all bloody on the forearm. I wonder if he'll hook up with the...
Starting point is 01:52:53 David Dow. Is this real? No, the lady. Oh. The Dallas. The Dallas lady, right? Tiffany Gomez. Oh, yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 01:53:02 It's not a real person. You can somehow turn that into social media club. Probably a podcast, right? Talk to a. Maybe a meme coin. Maybe a meme coin. A couple of education notes here. The governor has recommended that Texas, University,
Starting point is 01:53:24 in Texas should establish three-year bachelor degree options. So just minisize it a little bit. And eventually, my kids will just be able to watch a TikTok to get their degree. I mean, we knew we were fun. A few years ago, Dan was like, yeah, I asked my daughter if she'd seen the godfather. And she's like, well, I watched a 10-minute YouTube video kind of. Yeah, synopsis. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:53:48 So bachelors used to be minimum four, right? And now he's like, I don't know. I mean, why not three? What's all this gay school for? That's how, that's his answer to the rising cost of college. What if you just had one less year of it? We'll get this thing under control. We all wasting time out there.
Starting point is 01:54:07 Just fill up when you're half full. Taking bowling twice? That's, that'll, exactly. That's what I'm getting rid of having to take bowling twice. Then focus more on what you're there for. So another Texas education story. We get this every couple years, but the, uh, the state board of education has approved our revised high school studies, social studies curriculum, so that we now squarely can
Starting point is 01:54:33 blame Islam for 9-11 and not like the intelligence community. For real? Yes. Does it say in the book? How does it read that? The board also approved language saying that radical Islam motivated the 9-11 attacks instead of more narrowly focusing on the terrorist groups behind the attack. which probably makes sense because treating it as if it was one guy who was mad is not true.
Starting point is 01:55:03 Now, if you go one more step up the ladder, I don't know if they ask, why are these people angry? Like with a photo flip through of just people with no limbs, but really the reason I wanted to do this story was more, no matter where you fall on this, whether you believe, like, you know, actual history or the one that's being fed to you. I feel like parents now have too many of their own ideas. None of this shit's going to work. It doesn't matter. Like, social study, what chance do you have against parents of the internet? Like, any kid who comes home and is like, this is what they said now. First of all, back when I was growing up, my mom was like, yeah, that's probably what happened.
Starting point is 01:55:44 I don't know. My mom didn't have a Howard Zen book. Yeah. He's like, whatever they tell you, that's probably what it was. But every parent now that's like, I don't even trust the doctor. Like, what is the point of teaching social studies at school? There's not, I feel like there's not much of one. Because I spent yesterday explaining unions to my daughter.
Starting point is 01:56:07 Huh. Really? Yeah. It's like, why are we not working today? Like, well, we got into it. Matt Brunning is proud. I told her that. I was like, you know Jane's dad?
Starting point is 01:56:19 You've met Jane's dad? She met Jane? That's a daughter, right? Yeah, your daughter met Yeah, we were in New York Brunick's daughter? All around, we'd spent a day in New York together going ice skating and touring the,
Starting point is 01:56:34 we had Christmas time in New York with the Brunuch fam. Awesome. Yeah. Ooh, this is a fun one. Blake, where's Texas City? It's down south, isn't it? I thought it was down near Houston. So they have a first of their kind
Starting point is 01:56:51 retirement community being planned for Texas City. It's a Margaritaville. What does that mean? What is Margaritaville? Margaritaville is one of those, it's like a Jimmy Buffett restaurant resort type thing. It's Key West. That's what I think Margaritaville is just the keys.
Starting point is 01:57:15 Yeah. And this is like a full resort retirement community that's themed like Buffett-E and Margaritaville. Okay, so we'll... Blake ever retire to Dude Perfectville? That, hey, that's not a bad call. Guy Fiori Village. Yeah, I don't know that my dad would do Margaritaville,
Starting point is 01:57:41 but I think if there was a diners, drives, and retirement, what about a Dallas Cowboy themed retirement home? Oh, my God, there's got to be. Russell Maryland's there. And the legends just come through for a luncheon every week. Well, no, they guarantee there's always going to be an ex-caboy who is a resident. Yeah. You'll see them around.
Starting point is 01:58:01 Old Cowboys, yeah. That's a great idea. I'll put a down payment right now. Yeah, you'd be in that. Charles Haley's just grown. Bocci ball with Alvin Harper. That'd be fantastic. I think.
Starting point is 01:58:15 It could be a place. Yeah, it could be a place for ex-Coboys to work. You know? It seems depressing. Yeah. Fun thing to do when college football returns. I don't remember this being a deal before last year, but there's a lot of a lot of like local police departments that will post what's happening at their stadium.
Starting point is 01:58:35 Oh yeah. Like throughout the game. Oh. I forgot about weekend check. I told my mom about your app. Is that crime radar? Yeah. Or too good to go?
Starting point is 01:58:46 That's your app? I downloaded too good to go last night. No, crime radar. Yeah. I was looking through crime radar of where she lived and she couldn't believe it. She's like, well, nothing ever happens in this town. Well, I go, let me see. And apparently, yeah, things are.
Starting point is 01:59:00 happening. Yeah, let me see. She's pretty excited because if there's one thing old ladies like as much as talking about the weather. It's about the guy that was arrested at the grocery store. I don't see a news story about this in the lamestream media, but my wife and I, there's a hotel in Dallas we really like, the Adolphus. Nothing unique about that. It's like saying McDonald's is your favorite restaurant. But we'd go there a lot and there's a pool on the top that's awesome. And it's also like too many hot women. It's just insane, right? I would only go there with my wife or it would be weird. So this guy sent me a crime radar call from last night. Man reportedly records women and masturbates at a golf at a Dolphist Tower rooftop pool.
Starting point is 01:59:51 This is at 615 yesterday. Oh, the sun's still up. But it's Labor Day, you know, Paul. Yeah. Going hard. And yeah. A woman and her friends said a man was recording them and yurking it. Why is he recording? Why is he got to do it right there if he's recording it anyway? This just feels like you've got your order of operations.
Starting point is 02:00:13 They don't have better memories of that recording. Where's the duct tape? Right. He's going to sync up with himself. So did your wife find anything on, or excuse me, mom see anything you said? Oh, yeah, yeah. No, I was rolling through with her. She was having trouble downloading it, so I just download them put in her.
Starting point is 02:00:33 No, the story I was going to do was out of A&M. They arrested a guy at the stadium on Saturday, a custodial worker hired by a third party for doing upskirt photos while he was cleaning. Speaking of Greece, we watched Greece last week. There's a scene in like the first 15 minutes where dudes are just done. over under the bleachers with a mirror. I don't think you're in a mirror. And that's something kids watch. Kids watch that movie.
Starting point is 02:01:03 Yeah. What's, yeah, that's, uh, somehow I never, that, what would you do with that? I guess it's the, uh, just the thought that you've stolen something that she, you, you know she doesn't want stolen. Yeah. Nude couple harassing workers at Dallas Walmart. Hmm.
Starting point is 02:01:25 It's not that they're nude, is that they're harassing. The workers. And I just think the fact that that's love. You know, the two of them in there together. You should have never told me about this app. It's really good. Cedar Hill, man masturbating in restaurant lobby. You said it'd be 10 minutes.
Starting point is 02:01:46 Also, like, definitely it's the lobby. He wasn't doing it at his table. Well? I don't know. And we had a verdict in the killing of Mo 3. at least the shooter was found guilty on Friday. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. This is the rapper who was killed on I-35.
Starting point is 02:02:07 This is not... Not the guy that was writing the lyrics about how I'm going to kill him? Yellow Bezzi's trial will begin next week, I believe. The guy who hired him. So my correspondence told me that that's where the real juice will come because nobody showed their hands in this one. like they were willing to let this guy go to jail. Dude got killed broad daylight, like on the freeway right out there.
Starting point is 02:02:36 Like just got ran down. Was that last year? Yeah. Okay. Can you talk about what happened or when the guy was indicted? I'd forgotten about that. Dude. Crazy.
Starting point is 02:02:47 Crazy, crazy story. All right, Dan. And there is your news. The Dumb Zone News. like and subscribe. That was a good news. Happy birthday. Thank you.
Starting point is 02:03:02 All right, I'm back. Unless you want to man it. I will fade out. Okay. And I'll do some viewer mail birthdays here. You two are pros. Sinking up. Where is?
Starting point is 02:03:15 Dan and Blake like to sync up. Make that known. Viewer mail birthdays, we have Dear The Claude God of the Meatlog Want to wish a dumb zone devotee
Starting point is 02:03:41 Ben Bubba Mack Hood Of Austin Airbnb fame A happy John Lynch Birthday 47 He woke him up in that special way Thinking about the Longhorn's eventual deep playoff run
Starting point is 02:03:55 His bleeder is Donovan His leaders are IJB Gluten Free Pizza And band performances After high school football game. What a beating. Even more sorroy
Starting point is 02:04:07 during the football season, more roast twins, and bring back Dutch Pentameter. Streets are talking. Estabust a punt early and often keep doing what you're doing Playboy, Chase that money from Pelo in Plano. Great dude, Ben Hood.
Starting point is 02:04:25 I'm not just saying that because he hooks us up with free houses to stay in all the time. He also shows up to Miracle League and helps volunteer. You see somebody tried to kill Arch in the tunnel? No. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:04:40 Some fan when they're running out just like reaches over and tries to hit them on the shoulder pad and just eat shit and gets trampled. Like Mufasa. Traumatic. Yeah. We have Dear Sexritory of the Pink Interior. Dude, yeah, I got to say one thing. Well, maybe I should wait for tomorrow. I saw a comedian over the weekend.
Starting point is 02:05:09 I went and met Luis from BVB. Oh, okay. You know about the show Mo on Netflix? Yeah, no, I don't know this one. I went and saw a guy named Mo Amir. He's from Houston. So that's a lot. And he had a show on Netflix that's basically like Atlanta called Mo.
Starting point is 02:05:30 He's a Muslim. He's Palestinian refugee, but he grew up in Houston. He was incredible, Dan. Really? Absolutely incredible. never heard of the guy and apparently like had some tough times in the last couple years and was like thinking about hanging it up and he was like it was a couple people who called me
Starting point is 02:05:50 now this is a very uh you know vj boyd um shoddy thing to do but he was like you know the first one was chappelle and i was like oh okay this guy's got it like that and then i started looking him up and yeah he's a big deal but yeah i don't know if you can claim i was about to get out of the game but then Chappelle called me. He was more like I was in a funk. Pretty far into the game. I think it wasn't really, it was low-key.
Starting point is 02:06:16 It was October 7th, which doesn't mean anything to us, but it was to them. He was like, I don't know if I want to do this anymore. Like, there's a war. My shit's all about being Palestinian. And he's like Dave Chappelle. But no, the guy, he was awesome. And it just lets me know how failed I will ever be at the, dude, the guy's like a, Muslim, Indian, Texan, like, the level of bag of tricks he can go into.
Starting point is 02:06:45 Oh, yeah. Of, like, voices and cultural. If only he was gay. You could have it all. I know. But no, you should really watch the Netflix show. It's great. You really like it.
Starting point is 02:06:56 I've heard, and I'm in. Sunday was the Tony Dorset birthday for Day 1DF, Mike Chris. He's a founding member of the Cowboys Away game crew and is wondering when will Jake commit to the Green Bay game? It's so tough, man. I don't know what that means. They're trying to get you to go to the Green Bay game? Yeah, they were at the Bronco game. They go to a game together every year, and I really want to go to Lambo.
Starting point is 02:07:22 I stay at my hotel. There's no way you would let me sleep in your hotel room on the road. I absolutely would. You just have separate toothbrush containers. That'd be great stories. The stories you two would tell. Okay, put all this on wax because my wife will hear this, and I really want to go. so we'll see
Starting point is 02:07:42 and we have to ask our wife if it's okay because I'm Harry can we say who's on the stream Sunday I don't know I can't remember who's on soroy that guy just said he wants more Soroy on the stream oh okay sororoy and you're right
Starting point is 02:07:57 Ringo stars drummer yeah we're full up we got guests are coming in it's gonna be great maybe some game day guests that's the only two I don't have booked yet because I got to call Game Day and we get our winner.
Starting point is 02:08:13 Anyway, did I say Sunday, Tony Dorset birthday, wants Jake to go to the Green Bay game. Julie asked to hold his newborn baby at a restaurant a few months ago. This is from Mike Chris. His leaders of the playmaker and Mike Gundy. More WNBA talk.
Starting point is 02:08:34 Never punt or bunt from Mason. And one rolled in today, it is Dear Gap Gatsby. That's a good one. I like that one. Dan hates it. G-word is on his list. I'm changing the topic here and listening to your open today about some of the deaths on your circle have me questioning my allegiance here, but I think I'll continue listening.
Starting point is 02:09:00 Today is my birthday, and my leaders are Jake's Hab Rumi, Javier from New Orleans, Blake's RbF tone for anything you guys say on air. And Julie's laugh. Also, more sorroy. This is from Frank Ortiz. Hey. He is our man in Houston that we hopefully will be hooking up with soon. Did he say he was thinking about stopping listening because you had the gall,
Starting point is 02:09:29 the mention that you had a friend who died? I think he's worried he might pass away. There's so many people passing away between the sit-in and meat. Okay, got it. R-P. Meet. Get an annual. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:09:41 Did Frank Ortiz lock in his annual just wondering about his own mortality? Those are a couple things that like when you're filling out a will, they will tell you. Well, right now, everyone who's done it died. Put a trust in your will. Not everyone. Look at all the annuals we got. You're telling me. Like the odds are that one.
Starting point is 02:10:02 And I found out a guy's dead and I found out he was an annual. You tell me. Anyway. Let's move on to this. this. Game Day Men's Health presents on this day in history. Yeah, we mentioned a couple times, game day. Dot dumbzone.com.
Starting point is 02:10:22 That's how you can get a couple of seats to an upcoming cowboy stream that we do from high atop my garage. Today we are in the Game Day Men's Health studio in downtown Dallas. But go in there, get a free testosterone check. Check your levels. See where you're at. and then you can have a consultation with them. Maybe testosterone's not right for you.
Starting point is 02:10:47 Maybe it's the peptide game. That's helped a ton of people, man. I hear great things about pep. Did you see how much weight Travis Gafford is lost? Speaking of that? I have. He's sveled a snack. Gameday.com.
Starting point is 02:11:05 Go get the TRT checked. You can also get your... What's the level checked, Dan? for your prostate? Testoster. What's the actual word for that? The prostate exam? Yeah, what they're doing?
Starting point is 02:11:18 The point is, you go in to get 15 minutes today. Oh, they have a special blood test? Yeah, you don't have to get digited. So go get that checked. The prostate cancer awareness month at Game Day, men's health. Yeah, they look in there. We had a guy find out that he was going to die. Oh, yeah, yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 02:11:38 Guy, they detected something in his bottom. the potential for something or whatever. Got it taken care of. And then send him to the doctor. Where was I? Oh, today in history. It's September 8th, Tuesday. This is the day in 1858, supposedly in a speech that President Lincoln said,
Starting point is 02:12:03 it is true that you may fool all of the people some of the time. You can even fool some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time. And then some guy shot him. That was why, too. It's crazy. I'm confused by this. On this day in 1930,
Starting point is 02:12:24 inventor Richard Drew created Scotch tape. Was there already tape? That's what, like, is this the first tape? Or is this just the clear? Is that different? It's better than masking tape, too. It's sticking things to things. I use the happiness method, if you've ever seen the movie,
Starting point is 02:12:50 happiness as to how to hang things on the wall. And if you haven't seen that movie, you should rent it, look it up, and then you'll know what I do. I know what you're talking about. Yeah. Rent it with your in-laws. Is that what you did? Did you do that?
Starting point is 02:13:07 Yeah, yeah. No. We would do it every Christmas. It was our Christmas Eve movie. Then you guys would decorate the tree like that, right? Just on an ornament? On this day in 1974, evil can evil, daredevil. Do we have daredevils now?
Starting point is 02:13:25 Red Bull, everyone on the Red Bull team. Alex Honnold? Yeah. That's true. That's the free solo? To a certain extent, every school shooter. Oh, wow. Anyway, he was trying to jump, motorcycle jump, Idaho's Snake River Canyon.
Starting point is 02:13:44 The attempt failed when the parachute on his rocket-powered bike deployed prematurely, he was paid a quarter of a million dollars in 1974. Yeah, I mean, it's like we talk about there was a time where a mathematician was hot S, you know, there was a time where motorcycle jumpers. Jump over something. But then Evil Knievel was like, I just know they had little evil caneval doll you could get. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 02:14:16 I think that was like a big deal for Danny Bayliss growing up. Ooh, this was a big deal for everyone who was alive in 1976. Because on this day, at exactly 54321 in the morning, time was in reverse order because it was 9-8-76 and it was 5-43-21. Wow. That's the reaction. I wanted VJ Boyd. I just wanted AWOL and not Jake's look of disgust and then all of a sudden he passed out.
Starting point is 02:14:58 This is the first day that Herschel Walker played for the Dallas Cowboys on this day in 1986. He would go on to save millions of lives with his warning about jet skis in the Bahamas. He would go on to come within probably 50 to 100,000 votes of being a member of the most exclusive legislative body on the planet earth. A testament to his great... Not the House, but the goddamn U.S. Senate.
Starting point is 02:15:31 Testament to his abilities to know why we have bad air. Unbelievable, dude. He would have been the dumbest person to ever have that job. Gotta be. This is the day that the... Houston Texans played their first ever regular season game. Was that against the Cowboys? Oh, that was so embarrassing.
Starting point is 02:15:58 That was terrible. That was one that's so embarrassing. The Cowboys lost 19 to 10. Like, and the Cowboys thought this would be great. Because, you know, we'll just schedule the Texans. Rub them on their heads. It'll be like, yeah. App State.
Starting point is 02:16:12 We just scheduled App State. Would this lead to? Some would say. Parcell's the next year? Yeah. And on this day in 2014, Ray Rice released by the Ravens, suspended indefinitely by the NFL. After the video came out. I got ball-sacked by that.
Starting point is 02:16:35 I almost did too. Everyone was trying to pass it off as the Josh Jacobs one. They were just making a different hue and they're saying TMG just released this. This is Josh Jacobs. And I was like, wait. But I thought that was at home, not an elevator. And it's like, oh, wait, that's just the Ray Rice video. Like what compels someone?
Starting point is 02:16:53 What is your end game? What, you sit down at your computer and you're like, I'm going to make people think that Josh Jacobs hit is like, what are we doing? What's your... You wanted to spoil movie endings for people? He just, he wanted Blake to get ball sacked. I just don't feel...
Starting point is 02:17:08 Like he just knows he's sitting at home knowing there's some idiot out there that thought this was real. Yeah. But it's not that funny. It's not like you made somebody think that like something funny was real. Like, we know he hit her. We know there's a video. this is not it.
Starting point is 02:17:23 So did he punch, Janae Palmer is her name. Did he punch her out and then dragged her out of the elevator? Ray Rice, yep. Yeah, that was. And I believe they're married.
Starting point is 02:17:32 What? Still? Yeah. I believe they have stayed together. That's true love. Or something. Yeah. Or psychological terror.
Starting point is 02:17:44 It is September 8th, this day in Dumb Zone history. In 2021, this date fell on a beef Wednesday. Oh. I miss beef Wednesday. Yeah, we're really leaning into that. What was going on?
Starting point is 02:18:00 We had a bad bit on this day. It was the Pete Buttigieg picture. Where's eating the wing? No, which I found again this morning. It's him and his husband. I had forgotten they had twins, so they each had a baby, and they were both laying in the hospital bed.
Starting point is 02:18:17 Like they had just given birth. Kind of skin? I try so hard to be a progressive. I really do. And then that, and I'm like, I don't know. It's so hard. Why is he in a hospital bed? I get why they're at a hospital.
Starting point is 02:18:35 The babies were at the hospital. They made her get out of the bed. But why do you get in the bed? You're fine. Hold on. Go to the bathroom. We all are out of here. What's his name?
Starting point is 02:18:47 Tristan's got to get in the... Yeah, you got to get in here, too. That's just, I feel like women should be offended by that. They absolutely should. Like that's fucking cosplay. That's, I don't know. In 2022, Jake says kids medicine taste better now. Facts.
Starting point is 02:19:04 Does. My kids love medicine. Everything is better for kids now. And I know that's old man, but we just figure stuff out. We figure out how to make stuff better. Just is. We had on Jason Stanford, the author of Forget the Alamo. I don't know that, but that's a great title.
Starting point is 02:19:23 It's awesome, and it got a lot of people really upset because it's... Howard Zinney. Yeah, it's what you think it is. And we did it on the station. It's actually the Alamo's not what you think it is. No. No. No.
Starting point is 02:19:39 And it's obviously... I think I got that because I heard Matt Brunick say his dad read it. Yeah, and we talked about it and people were very upset. Very upset. And finally in 2025, a horse pooped in front of Dan's driveway. We have a sign now. Yeah. You got to clean that up.
Starting point is 02:20:00 For some reason, it just flies as okay. Elsewhere. Today is the birthday of ETSY CEO Adam Romo. Hey. And Tad Carper. All right. From the Dallas Cowboys. Jake Kemp, no puppet productions.
Starting point is 02:20:25 Go ahead. state your name. We also have Lioti Tavares is 28. I certainly had him. Terrence Williams is 37. Nailing down center field for a decade at one point. Terrence Williams, man. What a weird career.
Starting point is 02:20:45 Was he on the scooter? Yes. And whoever set that to Hard Knocks? Brad C., other Bred C. You just kind of thumps over. Today's war game. James winner, Garrett Cole is 36. He got mad about them taking away his spider attack.
Starting point is 02:21:03 45.7 war. Matthew Delavadova is 36. Man. Very June. Latrell Spreewell is 56. Jeffrey Lurie is 75. Dan. What's that?
Starting point is 02:21:20 Well, I believe I once was letting you know that he had met his wife at a restaurant. She's Asian and you were wondering if he ordered her. Oh, like me or order by. I knew a guy who did that. I know. My mom's neighbor. Bernie Sanders is 85. They are stealing from you.
Starting point is 02:21:44 The 1%? The bankers. Actor Martin Freeman is 55. He's Tim from the British office. I prefer the American version. Why don't I go here? American version is better. Many people, me included agree.
Starting point is 02:22:01 David Arquette is 55. Always gave me the creeps. Wouldn't he married to someone on Friends? Courtney Cox. Yeah. That was one of your Ozzy. Really? Hmm.
Starting point is 02:22:13 Why? How? Is he? He's famous. He was on Friends, right? Probably. They all had their spouse. TV personality Kennedy is 54.
Starting point is 02:22:27 You may know her. from MTV or now Fox Business, I believe. I do know her from Fox Business. Brooke Burke Burke is 55. Oh my God. Mom, I need new socks. Danger of Stars. Wild on.
Starting point is 02:22:41 Mina Kimes is 41. Great. She's awesome. Rapper. Slim Thug is 46. Oh, the boss of all bosses. On the day that we introduced Dan to slab. Did you see how Houston came out?
Starting point is 02:22:58 Green. Well, what? University Houston, how they came out. Oh, they actually had an old... Oh, dude, they were tipping on fofos. Yeah, that was cool. I think I could convince Dan to enjoy some thugga. Wiz Khalifa, 39?
Starting point is 02:23:17 I've seen him in person. In a bouncing car, taking pictures with people. Used to be Brick's employer. Our good friend, Brick. Singer Pink. Is 47. That's it. She seems like he's been around forever.
Starting point is 02:23:36 Yeah. And didn't seem like a teen or something. Yeah. She always seemed like a woman to me. Jonathan Taylor Thomas is 45. Jervis swoon over her as a young lady. JTT. I've actually asked her that before.
Starting point is 02:23:50 Respect to him because he just like, I think last we looked, he went to, like, Columbia and got a job. Yeah, he's just working normal jobs. That's cool. Success story. All right, dumb zone birthday today, it came down to three. In the hole, we'll give you Gaten Matarazo.
Starting point is 02:24:12 He's 24. That's right, Jake. That's Dustin from Stranger Things. Oh, yeah. The kid with the missing teeth. I liked the one where he went to Blockbuster. That was the one that spoke to me as a guy who grew up with tape stores. That was for me.
Starting point is 02:24:29 but that's the third or second runner, whatever. The runner up is for Jake. Politician Mark Foley is 72. I screw this one up every time, but I believe he's congressional pages, right? He was... Says Kemp's been next to his name. Sex and boys, lots of young boys
Starting point is 02:24:49 that were working for the Capitol or at the Capitol. What do you got, Blake? Got to put out the vibe. Like DeMone. I got to find him. Yeah, yeah. To teenage boys who were current or former U.S. congressional pages. Yeah, pages.
Starting point is 02:25:12 Really, the only, just like I didn't know what an intern was before Monica Lewinsky, I didn't know, like, what is a page? I really only knew them as people to be assaulted. I didn't really know they had a, I still don't really know, actually. But our dumb's own birthday of the day is for Blake. It is Mitchell Whitfield is 62. Want to take a look at him? Did he invent coupons or something? Where we know Mitchell Whitfield from.
Starting point is 02:25:46 Oh, Barry. This is the guy that Rachel rained out on in friends. She climbed out the window. God, what a-vice. Whatever's the next thing after tertiary character to remember. Great memory. That's fantastic. See, Blake doesn't know this, but what he missed out at comedy night,
Starting point is 02:26:07 it was George's sister's birthday. I think she's 16. We're going to have a Blake v. George's sister friends trivia. Oh, yeah. That would be great. She's so into it. Line it up.
Starting point is 02:26:21 And I feel like if you know Mitchell Whitfield, Grant Barber. Yeah, I'll take Blake. What a pull. Barry Farber. Born on this day now dead. Ron McCurnon says here he's known as Pigpen. of the Grateful Dead. Never did Grateful Dead.
Starting point is 02:26:46 Good for you. Dead on this day is still dead. We'll go with the Brad Davis from Midnight Express. Yeah, it was a film I made. We have Lenny Riefenstahl. The German filmmaker, Nazi for sure. You've read about her stuff, right? Or late in life or memoirs, whatever.
Starting point is 02:27:10 she's like, I mean, I was just around. I was making films. I don't know. Yeah. Well. They were kind of telling me what to make and I made it. She was, though, credited with a lot of film innovation. Yeah. More than Gerbils, I think.
Starting point is 02:27:26 So he hated her. No. I'm serious. In the future. I think he hated her, yes, because the big man believed in her ability, like the visual to be a better, more moving. thing. But I just mean in actual film making circles.
Starting point is 02:27:45 Are you aware of this? No. No. Film man? TV man? Like rallies that she shot are thought of? Yes. But I mean, just like putting it on like kind of a skateboard like thing and just having the moving camera. Like coming up with dollies. Yeah, yeah. I did not know this.
Starting point is 02:28:02 Yes. That came from rallies. Yeah, yeah. Also, Dead on this day, still dead. S. Truitt Kathy. Thank you. You know who that is? Yep. Chick-fil-A man.
Starting point is 02:28:21 The founder of Chick-fil-A. I feel like he probably wouldn't love most of flight attendants, but great chicken. Did he die on a Sunday? And Queen Elizabeth died on this day in 2020. I know that really hurts you, Vijay. And that's what happened on the... this day in history. It's two days late, but I'm going to give a rest in power to the guitarist from one of my
Starting point is 02:28:52 favorite bands growing up, Dan, every time I die. Andy Williams. Now, you tell me this, Dan. So I saw that on... If you're going to be a fan of a band and they're going to die, don't you want them going like this? Andy had become a pro wrestler after retiring from metal guitaring and hit his head in a wrestling match and died.
Starting point is 02:29:14 Oh, my gosh. That's how he died. Yeah. But if you're going to, like, listen to a metal band your whole life, the guy retires, what do you want to fight? You got hit by lightning on a golf course? No. You want the guy that has two giant ram skulls bashing each other tattooed on his chest
Starting point is 02:29:29 to go out in a wrestling match. And that's what happened. Closing remarks, it's going to be brought to us by community mechanical today. Because Brandon was supposed to be scheduled for today. He was, but then he's got. some things going on. And of course, community mechanical is the title sponsor of the Brandon Aubrey show. And I got a text from a buddy this morning at 10.30 a.m. this morning. And he says, had a problem last night. Texted Travis at 10 p.m. And there's a picture of the
Starting point is 02:30:10 community mechanical van outside his house. Yeah, there he is first thing this morning. Look at that. He says, The Power of the Dumbes. I would say more it's the power of community mechanical. It's them. They're that good. CommunityDFW.com. It's hot. So get this taken care of.
Starting point is 02:30:26 Maybe your unit took a beating over the summer. 469, 667-7-290. If you're doing remodel, you're adding onto your house, something like that, a mini-split. They could do that for you. That's what they did for me. Have them come out, do that preventative maintenance. And if you get a new unit, you'll get a sit-in. CommunityDFW.com.
Starting point is 02:30:44 You heard it from Dan there. Travis, super responsive. great people over there, the best. 469, 667-7-2-90. Community mechanical, Travis and the team real cool. You don't want your house to explode. Don't be a bitch, so pick up the phone.
Starting point is 02:31:02 Dan almost died. But he didn't. And I'm really happy about that. Didn't. Thank you, Vijay, boy. That's the nicest thing anybody's ever said to me. But if I did die, you'd feel very sorry for my wife. She has to go on somehow without me.
Starting point is 02:31:19 I'd feel something for your wife. Ooh. Anyway, here we are. Closing remarks. Jake's age brackets. Give her your hearing bone. Free samples, baby. How quick would you have new floors?
Starting point is 02:31:35 Oh, yeah, dude. You like Dax's girlfriend and her wife? I get these out of here. By the way, she is on Dancing with the Stars now. No way. Amazing. Amazing. Dax X.
Starting point is 02:31:46 I'm pretty. sure. My wife and I saw the promo last night and she was like, is that Dax girl? I didn't know they started with like 20 people. It's a big cast. Her name is Sarah Jane Nader, right? I thought it was Ramos. Is that, okay, maybe this is a different person.
Starting point is 02:32:03 Sarah Jane Nader, anybody? Ralph? That's all I think. That's all I can think. That's all I can think. Maybe I'm wrong, but. And ironically never wears her seatbelt. Sorry, that's really deep. Old man cut.
Starting point is 02:32:20 Ralph Nader known for his consumer protection. Oh, did he... He's the reason why we have seatbelts. Yeah, big part of it. Big, big part of it. If they tried to get that passed now, there's no way, right? Like, would you be able to eliminate smoking today? If you watch news reports at the time, people were, like, so angry at it.
Starting point is 02:32:40 They were like, I'm never going to do it. This is stupid. This is insane. I tend to agree. So things can change. I will tell you, the 9-0 Supreme Court thing on paying college athletes did make me feel like we had some traction. Now, they're fucking that up now with Save, Protect, College Sports Act or whatever. But I still feel like there's some things that you could get.
Starting point is 02:33:06 Daylight savings time. Everybody got on board with that. Are we not having that this year? As of now, I believe that's the... Wait, no way. We're sticking with the summer thing? So wait, on Halloween, we're not changing time. The time's not changing.
Starting point is 02:33:23 I had Dax's wife on dancing this time. I really don't want to. You're backing off your claim of three seconds ago. No, I don't think it starts this year, but I think they said this year, we're doing it next year. And unless something changes for next year, we're doing it. Who's recently, everybody's retiring. Well, he's right down the street. We can go ask him.
Starting point is 02:33:43 The big man, Trump is here. It's true. So Sarah Jane Nader is a model. She's from Louisiana. She's on a reality show with her sisters about how they made it to New York. Okay. The TV show name is Love Thy Nader.
Starting point is 02:33:57 That's too close. So is she or is Dax girlfriend more worthy of being on Daxing with the Stash? Dax's girlfriend. I would say, you're Dax's girlfriend. Yeah. She'll be on the secret lives of NFL one. Yeah. What's her Instagram?
Starting point is 02:34:15 in these days. That probably means we should get over to VJ. Once I'm just scrolling, just random shanks. Well, it's been a pleasure having you. Would you like to, you want to pitch any shows here? What are you working on? What's going on now? Well, thank you guys for having me. I always love coming in here. The last year, year and a half, I've just been trying to sell stuff because I sold a couple of things in 2024, wrote them, but they didn't go to series. So then I just
Starting point is 02:34:46 you know, hit the pavement. You're working for free. You're working for commission. You're trying to sell things. Still working on that. But I might, next time I'm on, I can't, I have an NDA right now, so I can't say, but I might have something cool to talk about next time I'm on. I have a big interview to run an existing, a big existing show. There's two rounds of interviews left. I made it through the first round. And I feel good about it. So we'll see. So like the madness. When did you sell that? It came out in 2020. So the madness, I got on that because Steve Belber, who I did it with, he sold it in 2021. Then they hired me to do it with him because he'd never made a TV show before.
Starting point is 02:35:27 So they hired me to kind of work with him on it early, I guess, no, it was January 2020. And then it took till, I guess people weren't seeing it until Thanksgiving 2024, if that's, I have my dates right, something like that. Yeah. Okay, the only reason I was asking, because you said you sold some stuff in 24 and it didn't take it to series, when do you find out, like, that's definitely not? Or could it still happen? It takes long, no, no, they're dead. It takes longer and longer all the time. Because it used to be, there was like this process where you sold a thing and then you know if we're going to make the pilot within two or three months. And then you know, once you sell that, if it's going to go to series
Starting point is 02:36:03 within two or three months. Now, like the two things I sold in 2024, it took forever to write them. There was four months between notes calls at one point. So they're just stretching it. You only get paid one amount and then it has to last you longer because it took over a year for each one for them to say okay you did good work on this we paid you that amount but something that we're going to make something else instead uh so then it just leaves you having to work on more and more things at once there was a certain point earlier this year where i was working i was trying to sell 17 things at which is insane it's stupid but it's like at a certain point you need a paycheck you know Dang.
Starting point is 02:36:42 So when you say your pitch, is this mean your agent is doing it? I mean, I do the pitches. Like the agents are like kind of gatekeepers. Like they'd make the phone calls to the execs and say, hey, you know Vijay, he made the madness and he was unjustified. He's got an idea. You know, here's kind of the idea. Can he pitch this to you?
Starting point is 02:37:00 And then that's after I've spent, you know, however long, six to eight weeks coming up with and, you know, coming up with the 25-minute pitch, you know. and sometimes I'll just write it and try to sell it as a spec because it takes so long to condense something trying to condense and explain an entire show that doesn't exist in 25 minutes. It's a ridiculous process, to be honest. Does it always have to have an analogy?
Starting point is 02:37:26 Do you, because that's the... It's like such and such, with such and such. The way they portray that in film or something is like, yes. It's so and so, it's lost meats. Yeah, like that. That is a great... Stranger thing. That is a great way to sell. That is a great way to sell. I don't always do that. One of the best pitchers I've ever seen, my friend Mark Bing Cooley, who ran Lincoln Rhyme with me, and he wrote the upcoming movie How to Rob a Bank, which is, he wrote that 13 years ago. I finally got made by David Leach. It's going to be awesome. It comes out in November, I think. But he's the best pitcher I've ever seen. And he does those comparisons all the time. And he used to be able to memorize the whole 25 minutes of a pitch. He wouldn't even have notes. But I,
Starting point is 02:38:10 I tend to not do that as much. I guess I'm more of a methodical, kind of here's the steps, here's the story, here's who the characters are. There's so many different ways of doing it. I can't remember if it was the movie The Revolution was televised or the book or do you know what I'm talking about? I have heard that term and I don't even know what it's in reference to, but I've heard that term I feel like my entire life, but I don't know.
Starting point is 02:38:34 Well, there's many different versions. Who's the TV reviewer than what? You're thinking of Alan Sepp and Wall. Yeah. Oh, okay. Hill Scott Harron initially, right? But the Seppinwall book, I think, was talking about just getting in there and the Lost pitch was this. And Lost famously, they lied also.
Starting point is 02:38:50 Like, was ABC? Was Grilling JJ Abrams on? Okay, so people can just tune in any week, right? They don't have to, there's no continuing story, right? It's going to be like episodic. He's like, yeah, yeah, of course. And of course, Lost is the least episodic show ever. Yeah, you need to lie sometimes, right?
Starting point is 02:39:07 Yep. Yeah, that's really, the weird thing, too, is if you write something 13 years ago, to still be able to pitch it with passion, like... The Tire story is crazy to me. I mean, they wrote, he wrote that at Drexel. Oh, I didn't know that. I didn't know that. That script is 15 years old. He wrote that as like a senior or almost 15 years old, because there's a pilot floating around from five years ago that you can find on YouTube.
Starting point is 02:39:34 So it's like super bad in that way. Yeah, yeah. They had it. they had it. Wow. He'd gotten out of college and was like, I'm not really making it. I'm going to have to go work at this job and wrote it then.
Starting point is 02:39:45 It all seems like that, so you can still have the pat, because even us, if we have something we want to do on the show and we'd wait a few days or if it leads into next week, it's hard to pitch it again. Yeah. Because it's like,
Starting point is 02:39:57 well, if this wasn't good enough last week. Yeah, like I have a pitch I'm doing for a show of my own that I hope that I'm going to sell that also. and I'm pitching at six places coming up like HBO, et cetera, all the places. And every time before I pitch, I have to, like, act like it's the first time. And I sit, I give myself like 45 minutes or so to get in that headspace, or that's all I'm thinking about.
Starting point is 02:40:21 And I'm like, and I get, like, passionate about it because I don't want to be a monotone. I want to, like, give a performance. And the whole thing is kind of silly because you're asking someone to be a really good writer who can come up with ideas and also be a performer who can sell the idea and, then be a people manager who can manage all these people, like 100 people making a show, and also this is a production that's going to cost $100 million. And so you have to be able to do all these things. Executive function and artistic. Yeah, they don't always go along at all.
Starting point is 02:40:53 Sometimes a writer might be a writer because they're a little, I'm behind the scene. I'm shy. My daughter is very into writing but doesn't really want to be a performer. but you're saying you then have to become a performer at times. At times. Yeah, because I told her she should talk to Akash because she wants to do comedy. But, you know, and in the comedy world, if you're writing comedy, you are often performing comedy. There's that pipeline.
Starting point is 02:41:19 You know, a lot of people who created sitcoms came from SNL, you know, even like doing bit parts or writing. And a lot of those writers, of course, famously, are also the performers, you know. I just want to say real quick, I had to look this up. You said your friend's name was Mark B. Inc. I'm sure he's a wonderful guy. He is. He's one of the best people in a-oh. We're going to Kemp spin him.
Starting point is 02:41:41 We're not going to Kemp spin anybody, but Dan has had the nepotism radar up. Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes. I'm a very big, I'm a longtime NPR listener. Yes. And Terry Gross's main TV critic for 20 years had a last name I'd never heard before. That's his father, David B. and Cooley. But we never had a chance. VJ's dad wasn't in TV
Starting point is 02:42:04 No, he was a systems architect No, but I mean, he let it slip there I asked my daughter if she'd want to pick VJ's brain And she said yes So in a sense that's Yeah The same thing, not that VJ
Starting point is 02:42:17 No, I got her a job My issue with like Stella Lefty Or whoever is getting the accusations now Is not nepotism It's that their music sucks Yeah, that's it Yeah, Margaret Qualley, great actress I don't care
Starting point is 02:42:31 said her mom's Andy McDowell. She's a great actress, you know. But, Brian Schottnheimer? She doesn't get that. Excellent coach. The roles at the time she was going to get that. Like, Joe Buck is awesome. Yeah. Right? He's very, very good. And he might be awesome because they had a lot of money. He didn't have, like, he could intern for free, right? He could it helps. Sit in booths while he was 10 years old. Like, were you able to do that, you know? No, I was working in the fields. That's right. On my farm.
Starting point is 02:43:07 Anyway. Will you guys travel safe? Any other final closing remarks? Closing closing remarks? Just thank you guys. You guys are awesome. I always love being on here and having me on when I'm in town. I really appreciate it.
