All right, on to the cowboys.
Yeah, a little bit of cowboys for you here. Yesterday we talked about the CDLAM YouTube documentary.
Trey Von Diggs has his documentary out there.
The other thing that was viral first yesterday was,
there's a fun, fun experience for me, Blake,
because I found out that Dan knew
about the Micah Parsons calls Brian Schottenheimer and
his teammates to tell them goodnight video.
But Dan had no context at all.
Now I'm not saying the context helps much, but I had already seen that this was a trend
on TikTok.
In fact, it's so much of a trend that the New York Times covered this two weeks ago.
So you know the roast twins are already like,
this is fall 2023.
This is actually from before TikTok was invented.
But Micah did it two days ago.
And when Dan and I talked about it, he was very mad.
Again, not saying it's better knowing
Here's why what in the can I just talk about Brian Schottenheimer for a bit? Yes
Because I also saw
Any I got to stop looking at social media man
Now whatever because I saw another pose that's going great that showed
Well, here's the post that said head coach Brian Schottenheimer is bringing literally bringing culture into the QB room
shoddy Dak Prescott Joe Milton Will Greer
Steve Shimko and their families
spent time learning traditional Greek
dancing.
And then there's videos of them dancing.
Yeah.
And laughing.
And just bonding.
I mean the important things that you want your quarterbacks to be doing in the off season,
the very important things that coaches like Mike McCarthy and Bill Parcells and Jimmy Johnson
didn't understand the importance of these things
so I see that
and then I see posted as a link to a story
from DallasCowboys.com. The story's headline is Shotty Ball. How Brian
Schottenheimer is approaching his big shot. And there's a lot of stuff in here
we've we've we've covered before. Yep. But I'd like to read you a few highlighted portions of this article
on DallasCowboys.com. Because it says here, all signs show that Schottenheimer has done
just that, which is he was talking about, I want to be authentic, I want to be myself.
That's what Marty, his dad, kind of told him. Just be yourself.
And I want you to just think about this. This is the head coach of your football team.
That you would like to break the drought of not only Super Bowls, but even, you know,
the NFC Championship game. You'd love to just see him there.
Bring me true sports joy.
So the head coach,
from passing out
Whataburger to every employee at the star in Frisco,
to taking players out for dinner,
to free throw shooting competitions in the team meeting room,
Schottenheimer believes at his core that the camaraderie built now
will lead to the success the Cowboys had been longing for.
Here's a quote.
I want you to soak this in there, Jake.
Football mind that you are.
Here's a quote.
Schottenheimer said,
this business has never been about X's and O's.
Never.
It's about people. Jimmy's. And when I thought
about it I can't imagine sitting up here with a better group of people, a better
family to do this with. Okay so a couple things. I had a listener hit me up and
tell me that they were listening to a Golden Tate interview where he referenced the free throws.
The free throws and the basketball goal is definitely Pete Carroll.
And a lot of this is Pete Carroll, the more that I read about it and go back and look at old Pete Carroll interviews.
But the thing is,
I don't know if a lot of people know this about Pete Carroll, you know, because he's funny looking He runs around all crazy and shit Pete Carroll at one point was thought of as like the best defensive backs coach
Outside of like maybe Nick Saban as a tactician in the game like you would if you wanted to watch
Technician clinics like technique clinics on the secondary you were going to see Bill Belichick
Excuse me, not the bullet show Nick Saban and Pete Carroll you know he was a defensive
coordinator for years he was a head coach and by the year 1994 Pete Carroll
was a head coach he was thought of as like revolutionizing secondary play and
yes also he shot free throws but with shotty we just have the free throws. We don't have him being
known for anything really leading up to it. So we're sort of grasping at these
straws. And on the Micah thing, I don't know. Do you guys want to play the other
ones?
Well, let me just finish this Shoddy article.
Okay.
And then we'll go to the audio.
Because they fit together nicely. Right, no, because Shoddy, they also point out that he has taken the players to a paintball
field and moved the players' lockers around in the locker room.
He's reassigned lockers. in shoddy fashion has answered questions by saying, there's a standard.
The standard is we want to be the best.
Will we be the best, culture?
I don't know, but we're going to try.
Will we make mistakes along with it?
Absolutely.
More than one question to himself.
We'll make mistakes and then we'll fix things.
He goes on, what makes Dak Prescott better?
Joe Milton.
What makes C.D. Lamb better?
George Pickens.
Oh, full name.
What makes Jaden Blue better?
Having Javante Williams.
He also will say, you see guys who are taking first team reps,
are they starters?
No.
They're just taking first team reps today. Do we change it up?
Of course.
How does he keep doing this?
Because we're all about creating competition. Yes, the question to an answer. He answers
another question. And then I'm just going to read you the final paragraph of this article
entitled Shotty Ball, how Brian Schottenheimer is approaching his big shot. The long wait
is over for Schottenheimer.
And he's got his shot to not only make a statement as an NFL head coach, but to prove that he
was meant to be here his whole life. His father made Marty Ball famous. And in a few months,
the Cowboys will be introduced to a new philosophy, colon, shoddy ball. Oh.
So that's what cringe means. When I look at Jake's face.
That's exactly that.
OK, so there's this trend on TikTok.
I think I just saw some random guy who had a big account do it
a couple of weeks ago.
Like I said, the New York Times has an article on it.
Headline, can a man call another man to say good night?
A social media trend has been surprising their friends,
has been surprising their friends with a call before bed.
The results have been surprising. And yeah, it's funny.
Um, we've seen stuff like this, uh, like on group chats,
somebody would do this every now and then like, Hey, just tell the boys you love them and see hey good, man
Get called the f slur
Go where you got no bitches go call some women. What's wrong with you?
So
Like everything cowboys they decided they needed to do it after it was already not cool.
Like all their schedule release videos and all their challenges and all their offensive and defensive schemes.
I saw an Eagles player do it like when it was happening.
Yeah.
And now, yeah, a month later.
Yeah, it's kind of how it is with like LeBron.
There's a lot of ways that Cowboys and the Braun are similar and that's where like when it gets something gets to LeBron
It's already not cool. It's too big. That's what the Cowboys are
And so you've got this video that Michael puts out there on his tik-tok
It's about four minutes long. He calls a few teammates just to tell him good night
A couple of them are kind of funny. You can pull me up like you know
Hello, I think this one's Tyler Smith He calls a few teammates just to tell him goodnight. A couple of them are kind of funny. You can pull me up like. Am I?
Hello? I think this one's Tyler Smith.
Yo.
Yo, what's going on, fam?
No, I just wanted to say goodnight, bro.
Ah, shit.
Where you are, bro?
I know you lying, bro.
Nah, bro, I love you, my nigga. I love you too, bro. Nah bro, I love you my nigga.
I love you too bro.
Yeah I wanted to say goodnight.
I appreciate it bro.
Yeah.
This is all for my message bro,
this is all I needed man.
Bro, that's the part that I hate,
like I just feel like recently
nobody check up on us no more.
Nah, fact bro, like the reassurance bro,
is that somebody is always there for you and valuable.
Okay, so he is playing along with the bit there.
That's a guy who had seen the bit.
He seems like a cool dude.
Same here.
What's up, bro?
I just called to say goodnight, bro.
This is Trayvon.
You want me to TikTok shit?
No, bro, I just love you so much
and I was just thinking about you.
I love you too, man.
That's about the same voice and intensity
you hear in Trayvon's workout documentary.
He's just a very laid back guy.
This next one.
He did call him out on the TikTok thing.
Yeah.
That's cool.
Yeah.
So they know.
Now this next one, I don't know if Osa knows or not.
But I got a big laugh out of this,
because I saved this on my
computer as defensive tackle laugh
yo bro
whats good
I just called to say good night
there it is
hahahaha
hahahaha
hahahaha
I heard that I saved videos. I love you bro. I love you. I've seen the videos.
Hey good night bro. Hey, I appreciate you. Hey man, you have a good night as well.
I just love a sleepy big guy. That's funny. It does show that they're doing it too late if everybody already
knows the bit.
Because the bit is, if it was out of nowhere, big strong guy,
calling big strong guy, that's very funny.
The first one I saw.
But if everybody says, oh, you're doing the bit,
then I saw.
Honestly, I'm mad at myself that I
didn't start calling you guys right away that night.
Because I saw it, and it was some guy.
Now, this takes balls, but it was somebody who was not like a star you know it's kind of like
whenever I'm pretty sure we did this bit at the ticket and TC like called
Corby or jr. in the middle of the night or something and it didn't go like great
okay but the first bit I saw I remember doing wake-up call yeah George Dunham
somebody had called like some veryham. Somebody had called, like some nickel corner
had called the starting receiver or something.
And he's like, what?
And they actually didn't know.
That's awesome.
So on this last one, it's shoddy.
And I'm trying not to be just a complete lunatic here.
But I think this might be, I think it might be staged.
So those were definitely Micah just calling him out of the blue.
Now they did know that there is a TikTok bit out there
and that's what you're doing.
Yeah.
But you feel like, because I heard a little of this,
I didn't listen to the whole thing
because you told me you were getting the audio.
It did sound like they were, like they knew, hey, hey we're gonna do the call now at least that's examined
what up coach what you doing man you all right yeah I just want to say good night
okay I love that bro what's going on y'all good wait a second are we code
switching yes oh yeah and I don't mind We all do it a little bit. Yeah, I probably do it more than certainly shoddy wants to I gotta be
Whoever I'm talking to you. I'm not gonna bet like I wait if Brandon Aubrey called him is it what bro no
It's different. What's good?
It's different. How's your 401k Brandon?
Don't think it's that different
It's just the speed at which he shifts into intentionality voice
Yeah, I just wanted to say good night, okay
Player the coach just checking in on you,
done to say good night,
hope fans well,
see you one day, you know, excited about that shit.
This is a good night.
Well, good, man.
Hey, look, hey, look, I know this is weird for everybody, man,
but look, you're handling everything the right way, bro,
and this thing's gonna get worked out.
There's just no need.
There's no need for that to come up.
Like he's bringing up his contract situation. I'm suspicious. I'm suspicious.
I'm not saying that they would that that's impossible. But they weren't.
The call wasn't about this. Into the conversation. The call wasn't about that though. Not at all.
The call was not about the contract. Yeah. Or that I'm not at mini camp or whatever. It was just about I'm saying goodnight
to you out of the blue. That's probably what they talk about. And he knows he's coming in next week.
After not being there last week it's gonna come up but just right into he sounds like he's on a
radio interview you know. Maybe he just talks like that all the time,
but immediately he just goes right into media.
Player to coach, just checking in on you.
None to say good night.
Hope fans well.
See you one day.
No, sorry bro, next week.
This is good night.
Well good now, hey look, hey.
Look, I know this is weird for everybody, man,
but look, you're handling everything the right way, bro.
And this thing's gonna get worked out.
Unnecessary, bro Unnecessary bro. I'm just I'm thrilled to see where we take this
same man we're building something special and you're gonna be a huge
part of it bro. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. Hell yeah Shadi. Take a Shadi from me when you got a chance man.
Hey I'm drinking a Shadi right now man.
Get ready to get ready to get ready to get ready for the night bro. I'm drinking a shotty right now. It's really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, Guy who uses the term brother myself, I'm probably going to have to kick myself off the jury.
But that's gross.
Also, it made me want to bring back doing a,
like I don't know, does the FCC regulate making
prank calls on the internet?
I don't know.
Can I make a drop board of just?
Hello, buddy.
Oh, that'd be great.
I love that, bro.
What's going on?
You all good?
Was it Red McCombs who was talking about Charlie Strong?
Hey.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Who evaluated him and said maybe a tight ends coach, maybe a position coach?
Yeah, but certainly not a coordinator.
Like that's kind of what I think here.
Definitely not a head coach.
Like I want my...
What's going on, y'all good?
He's...
He's... he's buddy.
Like, he's trying to make sure that I'm friendly with all of the players and the media, and he is a welcoming, warm, seemingly fun guy.
Yeah, they put out a mic'd up of him. He is a welcoming, warm, seemingly fun guy.
Yeah, they put out a mic'd up of him.
And there's really nothing in there
that's particularly great.
He just, he's just, he's a lot, man.
He's a lot.
Just the running around practice?
That's what made me start thinking, you know,
the Pete Carroll thing is just, he's jumping up and down.
He's,
all right, let's make today a great day to every guy.
He's running around and say, let's be great.
I mean, him and Dak are perfect for each other,
to be honest with you, the more I think about it.
Dak's just kind of a different version of Russell Wilson.
This is where we are.
He just seems like the boss or employee
that you don't want to be around.
Yeah that's too high energy.
Not like you just don't like him but it's like okay we got a joke difference.
Just leave me alone.
I feel like Mike is making fun of him a little bit when he does the shoddy thing at the end.
Alright let's see that.
Oh yeah.
Hey I'm drinking a shoddy.
Take a shoddy from me when you got a chance, man.
Hey, I'm drinking a shot of it right now.
Get ready, get ready, get ready, get ready.
It is for the night, brother.
Again, it's kind of like I've made reference before to our high school baseball team just having a foreign exchange student that they would just mess around with because he was fun.
It's like, oh, look at Shottie.
He thinks he's in charge.
Yeah, what are Micah and Trayvon talking about off the air?
I don't know.
Are they also smell blood like I am in charge?
Maybe, but also that doesn't mean
they can't also be really good.
They have a lot of talents.
They could. They have a lot of talents. They could.
They have a lot of talent. They have a.
It's generally I'm a person who is a big believer in talent is much more important
than coaching, but different sports. I think coaching is more important.
Like in the NBA,
I do think there are great coaches that can take certain teams a little farther with, but you know, even Greg Popovich thought of as one of the greatest coaches of all time.
Not that great of a coach when he doesn't have the talent, the pieces.
It doesn't get the same results.
Rick Carlisle, same thing, one of the great coaches, X's and O's wise,
but that only goes so far if you don't have any talent around you like Rick Carlisle didn't make the didn't win a playoff series after 2011
with the Mads I think until Luca got there in fact they he didn't win a
playlist playoff series with Luca did he no so no but yeah well you know but I
but football I kind of think Bill Parcells can take
The same team that Dave Campo had and win three more games. Ah
Yeah, I would say that the swing is pretty significant in football relative to the other ones and I don't know what
Schottenheimer could do for them
But I think again they do have a talented enough team to where if he just kind of is there
But as as you say, the proof will be,
when things start to go awry,
how do these guys then deal with the fun-loving guy?
Because if you're always fun-loving,
can he ever become a hard-ass?
Like, is there any way
that Schottenheimer could go in and turn
over the buffet table and just be pissed about the way you're playing today? No
he's gonna say be a goldfish and believe in whatever else Ted Lasso says because
that's who he is. Is he the Ted Lasso of the NFL? You guys are gonna make this so
hard.
I hadn't thought of Ted Lasso, because I'm not a, are you a Ted,
you seem like a Ted Lasso watcher.
I like the first season, yeah.
Man, that bothers me about you.
You like Impractical Jokers, you like Ted Lasso.
Yeah.
That guy can't be perfect, you know?
It's just a nice shut your brain off, just giggle.
It's a giggle show.
I guess you watch a different episode than I do.
Speaking of that, episode three of Tires was gold.
Is it three or four?
How many have you watched?
Did you watch one last night or no?
No, which one's the HR one? The one where
the lady comes in and Shane takes over for her? Is that episode two? I think so. I'm
trying to think. Did you see the black mold one? No. Okay. I think that's the best episode
I've seen so far. That must be the one right after that Now's the time
For what?
To watch not sports. There's just nothing on man
Well, there is the NBA Finals. Yeah, but
That three games off in between bit was no good. Are you watching any hockey? No, no, I am NOT
I'm boycotting because of the...
The tariffs?
They haven't really taken a stance on the whole...
Trance thing?
Gaza.
Oh, okay.
They have not demanded a ceasefire, and until they do, I don't know that I can really get involved in this.
