Starting point is 00:00:00 Just don't call in a podcast. The Ebro-Lora Rosenberg shows. Okay. Now listen, Ebro-Lora Rosenberg at Gmail. You know, Fridays, we like to read your emails. We like to get your voice notes. We like to see your beautiful faces and hear your voices. I want to shout out to Wilner.
Starting point is 00:00:33 He says he's been listening to us as long as he can remember on his way to school, with his siblings. He's writing in hoping we could give him a shout out to his big sister Carla because she passed away last year. Oh, man. I'm sorry. I know everyone on the program has been dealing with loss as of late and I always
Starting point is 00:00:51 listened to empathetically but also part of me hoping I wouldn't have to go through it. It's been it's been tough. Think about how much life there is left to live and how much and how much of it I'm going to have to do without her. Any and all advice on how to hold this immeasurable. weight, but also how to do it with a small child without walking around the house like a zombie. That's from Wilner. Well, Wilner.
Starting point is 00:01:16 Sending you love. Hug that child. Yeah. Love on that child more, you know, and also feel all the feels and grieve and be patient with yourself, right? That's the best advice, right? Like just one day at a time. And accept what you can't control. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:36 It's really it. There is no real answer and grief is weird. It comes in waves. It hits you when you least expect it. So don't think that this is something like you're going to be okay. Oh, it's been a couple months. I should be fine. Like it doesn't work that way.
Starting point is 00:01:50 So just be patient with yourself and your feelings because it's tough. He said his older sibling? Yeah. Says to his big sister Carla. Yeah. Sorry. I mean, listen, that older sibling thing, that's a journey for the rest of your life. That's right.
Starting point is 00:02:05 Yeah. So I don't know. There's no. But shoot us your email. Also, Ibril Laura Rosemort at Gmail. Laura, did you read this anonymous? Oh, oh. Read it.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Read it. Thank you and Invision Fest? No, read it, read it. I am a Fotz, long-time listener and Patreon subscribers. Patreoni, if you will. There you go. I honestly don't remember how many years I've been watching this show, but I know it goes back before young Issa was born.
Starting point is 00:02:28 First and foremost, thank you for everything you do. This thank you is long overdue. And since I was finally writing in, I didn't want to let it go unsaid. I don't have children. my own i went through three rounds of ivf before i had to stop physically and emotionally it took me a long time to grieve and heal from it and you guys discussing it on the show helped uh with some of that healing oh i'm happy uh but i've been blessed to have nieces nephews cousins god children who fill my life and honestly watching your kids grow up on the show has been part of that too
Starting point is 00:03:02 so thank you for letting us be a part of that um she says uh six years ago I started dating the man who's now my husband. We got married earlier this month. He came with my now bonus daughter. Okay. Love to hear that. She was 10 when we met. She turned 16 this year.
Starting point is 00:03:20 She has added so much to my life and I'm grateful every day to be her bonus mom. Oh, I love this. The reason I'm actually writing in is because I am trying to get four Envision Fest tickets. You got it. For myself, my bonus daughter and my friend and her niece, I'm happy to pay for the tickets, but if you threw in a free ticket or two, I wouldn't complain. I got you. Thank you for helping us be informed on everything from sports to politics, to pop culture,
Starting point is 00:03:47 to foreign affairs, for the laughs, and for letting us feel a part of the extended family. With so much gratitude. Oh, and Ebro, went live with Issa and Salasi a few months back. I joined the live. He said hi to me. I called all my family and friends and let them know I was now famous. Thanks for the shout-out. I love you guys.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Love you, too. This person is anonymous. Okay. So Griff, if you have the email from Anonymous, and the subject is overdue, thank you, and InVision Fest. Yeah. We got to shoot her to me. Yeah, shoot her to me, Griff, so I can write back to her.
Starting point is 00:04:20 That's beautiful. And you can get the tickets are at EnvisionFestival.com if you're looking to purchase at envSNFestival.com. So what's your biggest stress going into the weekend for InVisivac? Um, you know, all the stress of running a big festival. and I'm in charge of so many things and so many people. But overall, I just want people to show up and enjoy. It's my job.
Starting point is 00:04:43 I'm going to keep a real with you. I was a little nervous because I'm not on the radio anymore, you know? So I was able to talk about it. And I would reach a certain amount of people. So just the promotions, because I don't have any, I don't have promotional money. You know what I mean? So everything is grassroots guys, hold me down, post for me, tell a friend and tell a friend. So I was nervous about the promo.
Starting point is 00:05:03 So I just want people to show up to see the good work that we do. Um, where would you rank doing this work in your life? What do you mean? Not like the, like not the, I mean the labor is labor. Yes. But I mean like the, the end result and the satisfaction. Satisfaction. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:05:19 It fills my heart. Like I love it. I mean, guys, I am not making anybody off of this, you know. So for me to be doing it for seven years, Shripa and I bust our asses. But the, we have moments where we have certain young folks come up to us and tell us about. something super positive, how we impact them. Those are the moments that are special to me, you know? So I deal with youth getting kicked out of their home for being, for their sexuality.
Starting point is 00:05:47 I deal with, you know, young kids who are straight going through poverty, you know. I deal with kids coming from a single, a single parent household who just, you know, would like to be a part of something and can't because of finances. So all of that is something that I, you know, Ricardo always says, you can't help everybody, but you're doing a good job of doing what you can. It's really fulfilling for me. And this one is going to be a smashing success. Thank you, Roleberg.
Starting point is 00:06:14 I admire and I'm very proud of us because we get to do things that fulfill us and we don't do it for the money. Like to be at a place where you could do something that you're having fun with and you don't have to do it to like, you don't have to do it to pay bills. I think it's something that you're,
Starting point is 00:06:34 you should stop and like kind of reveling because that is a luxury right a lot of people do not have time to do anything in their life that's not done for specifically I have to get paid to do you know what I'm saying yeah whereas yeah and certainly getting paid for things that you just love to do right is that's a super privilege that's the super but to be able to hell even this program like it's not like we're doing this because it's paying our bills we're doing this because we like being around each other and we like providing a service and we have y'all who tune in and support and paying and we're going to be jumping over on Patreon uh which helps us pay the staff here and pay for the space and all that stuff that's right uh but you watching and subscribing and emailing and
Starting point is 00:07:14 providing us with your you know stories and and your time is really i think the at least right now it is the payoff yeah that's right um i'm so annoyed right now why because i recently had someone come over to service our air conditioning units that are like you know they're like they're like built they're not it's not I don't know of central air they're like they're built in the wall they're built in the wall they're not window units they're built in the wall yeah and the guy came to service them and was like have you clean these and I was like no I've cleaned the filter before but like I haven't like cleaned the machine yeah you pulled a little thing out you clean to take this stuff off the filter yeah right he's like yeah but they're dirty and like the
Starting point is 00:07:57 machines themselves are like dirty and here there's great to show his pictures like gross black shit it's all like nasty and stuff and I'm like I and he's like yeah well I wouldn't use these you you should replace them of course this is from the company you sold them to us by by the way which wants you to buy more correct so like five minutes later I get an estimate from them 8,900 to you know replace all three blah okay I don't fully buy this though you could you could clean it but it'll be expensive you have to take them out you know blah blah and this is where I'd love to get feedback from anyone in the EL Army who might know something and be like, no, here's what you need to do.
Starting point is 00:08:36 So here's the problem. I reach out to the guy, the contractor who built the enclosures around my things. And the enclosures they built are not meant to be taken off. Oh. I'll have to like destroy them to take out the units, whether I'm cleaning them or replacing them. So that's a whole other expense. Oh, God. What a headache.
Starting point is 00:09:03 I have three of them. I have to just. So does anyone else in your building have what you have? Yes. And what are they doing? They, I don't know. I have to ask around, but from talking to a handyman in my building,
Starting point is 00:09:17 it sounds like the people who he knows who have them, the enclosures they have are like removable. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I just wrote back to the guy who did it. And I said, can I ask? why you would have built enclosures that never accounted for having to get to the units ever again. I didn't know what I was doing.
Starting point is 00:09:40 I was a first time home buyer. My ex-wife was doing the design of the place. I just didn't know. I just didn't real, nothing I think about. Like, oh, you're going to have to replace these one day or clean them. Yeah. So you tell me there's no way.
Starting point is 00:09:56 So in order for me to do one of these, I have to basically do surgery. And I have three in my house. and they're all in, you know, ones in the living room, ones in my bedroom, ones in my baby's room. What do he say? He's like, well, you didn't ask. I just wrote that to him.
Starting point is 00:10:09 As we were starting, I was like, can I ask you why? And like, also, what do you suggest I do right? He's like, but it's just sheet, rock, and paint. It's not that big a deal. I'm like, okay, but how do I do that? I have to hire a contractor. And by the way, if you say it's not that big a deal, I bet if we look at the cost that you charge me to build those enclosures,
Starting point is 00:10:28 I bet I paid like it was a big deal. Well, so I was having this conversation with Jazz the other day about washers and dryers, refrigerators, you know, getting a handyman to like, you know, you get the mildew and then the mildew gets in the corking around the thing and you're like trying to scrub it with a toothbrush and then getting somebody to redo the corking in your bathroom. But I don't want a full bathroom redone. Can you just like come do it? All right, fine, I'll do it myself. Like, so fixing a little loose cabinet. Like we had the little childproof things on the. cabinet right took them off it damaged the little outside of the cabinet now and she's like
Starting point is 00:11:04 well can't we just buy like a door i was like these companies don't do that anymore they want to sell you a whole new cabinet system so several you know probably a decade ago these companies got wise they don't want to fix your thing they want to force you to buy a new thing the fan in the little refrigerator the fans acting oh we don't make that anymore you know why you don't make it anymore because you want to force people to buy a whole new thing. Well, and so you're telling me, yes. And within that, so you're telling me that the dirtiness that happened around this unit doesn't happen. Like, I would have needed to know how to get in there and clean that already.
Starting point is 00:11:45 And even though we're replacing the filters. If he hit you back and says, well, that's just how I thought it needed to be done, you got played. Right. You played yourself. Well, yeah, you played yourself because you just went with something and didn't ask a bunch of questions. But I'm just saying from the AC unit standpoint, there's no, so we ordered the spray. I haven't used it yet. We looked online and there is like a foam that you can spray into machines like this. And it cleans it.
Starting point is 00:12:14 That will supposedly clean it. Do you have to leave the house to make sure that the chemicals don't come in the house? I don't think so. I think it's safe, but you do have to, I have to disconnect the unit like completely and leave it off for a while. Because it's wet or whatever. But like, do I, can I try that? Are you telling me that just because it's dirty inside, even though the filter's clean, like the dirt's going to be sprayed into my home? There's a YouTube video on this. Has to be, right?
Starting point is 00:12:39 There's someone on IG who specializes this. And that's the other thing that went on. Everything went DIY, right? So the Home Depot's and all this shit are now convinced that you can fix it yourself. Well, and is there someone out there who doesn't work for Hamilton Air who's like, nah, if you give me a little space, I can get in there and clean that for you? You don't need to power wash it. You just need someone who can get in. And like, because I could take the front vents off.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Like, there are ways to get into parts of it. You just can't get the whole thing out without destroying my house. Yeah, you're in a pickle. I hate adulthood, bro. It's really, the kids, the kids don't know how good it is, bro. When I see Maya's joy at things in life, I'm like, man. You don't know. You have no idea.
Starting point is 00:13:20 And kids want to be older. They think it's going to be so dope. Even when you're even, I saw a video the other day of Usher, walking down the street with his wife, shopping. He was just walking. He had a little water bottle behind his back. It was just kind of just looking like an annoyed husband. And I'm like, even when you're usher.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Yeah, you're still a human on earth. We all breathe the same oxygen. An adult human. That's right. Because kids don't know what it is to walk down the street. I try to let you listen. Issa turning 12 this weekend. Happy birthday to Issa.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Yay. Yay. Um. And if you lock into the Patreon, you know, we'll get to some family matters coming up, which we'll jump over to in a second. But I often tell her, like, you know, and show her the detail that it takes to have a day. This is what I got to do today. I got to go here. I got to drive there.
Starting point is 00:14:17 I got to go over here. I got to pick this up. Here's all the things I got to pay for. Here's all. I encourage you. And I know people are allowed. I let them be kids. It's overrated.
Starting point is 00:14:29 You need to know. Don't rush to this grown-up thing. Do not try to speed this up. I had a friend who had her 12-year-old basically spend the whole day with her calculating every single dollar she spent. Yep. So at the end of the day, he was keeping track and he was like, oh my God, like that.
Starting point is 00:14:49 That's a good one too. Yeah. But also to your point, it's good to just appreciate. by telling them how hard adulthood is early, you actually are extending their childhood. That's right. And saying like, not to mention, if you're someone who is lucky enough to come from means,
Starting point is 00:15:04 yo, go to school, do all the education you can. Because the longer you're educating, the more you're really getting to avoid some of the just every day. And this is from people who have great jobs. Not even like the people in the EL Army right now who are like listening to us while they're doing straight up manual labor.
Starting point is 00:15:21 Yeah. Or on their way. to do manual labor. So, yeah. And listen, yeah, I mean, for your kids out there, expose them to what adult, just a little taste. They don't need to. Right.
Starting point is 00:15:31 Not everything. All the stress, but just a little taste of what a day actually is like. Yeah. You know what I mean? It's a good idea. And do it when you're not frustrated. Don't wait until it's like, you don't know what I'm going through. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:15:45 You should just be like, yo, you think being grown up's easy, huh? Yeah. Come for a day. Or spend today with me. You know, it's just. even be a Saturday. Sometimes it's just like, alright, let's make the grocery list. Let's, you know what I'm saying? Let's go to the store. Let's fill up the tank. And I give, even right now, Salasi's two and a half.
Starting point is 00:16:06 You got a couple of things I need you to do. Daddy needs your help. Daddy needs you help. We help daddy right now. I need, here, take this to the trash. Hey, we're going to clean this up here. You do this. And it's nothing. She'll get down and clean something up off the floor or help like we give her like after she eats and rice will be on the floor. We'll give it a little handy vac. and she'll, you know, cleaning up her little rice and she wants to do it for now. Right. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:16:28 But she also, I think, sees, you know, Issa's at that age. Issa will just jump up and take out the trash. She sees the trash is full. She'll take it out. Or if there's dishes in the sink, she'll just knock them out. Or when she puts her stuff in the sink,
Starting point is 00:16:40 she'll knock it out. But these are just stuff we've been working on since she was like five, six years old. Right. You know what I mean? So you got to kind of give them a little something. And make it like they're helping you. And you also never know.
Starting point is 00:16:53 She may not. She may not be like, hey, yo, dad, why don't you pick up your own bitch-ass trash? I hope she tries. You wish a Salasi would. I wish you would. Let's see how that goes. Speaking of family. Yes.
Starting point is 00:17:06 Patreon time. Let's go. All right. Hey, family Friday. Thanks for jumping over on the behind the paywall. It's a rare condition this day and age. To read any good news on the newspaper page. Love and Tradition.
Starting point is 00:17:24 The good. Sing it, Robleberg. Sing it. It's even harder to find. Bye guys. Don't follow the podcast.
