Starting point is 00:00:00 Just don't call in a podcast. The Ebro-Lara Rosenberg Show. Let's get to the Friday vibes, man. What we miss, what we miss, Ebro-Laura-Rosaver. We check in with y'all 8 a.m. And we get into what we miss. Laura has been chomping at the bit all week to play Hakeem Jeffries.
Starting point is 00:00:24 Okay. Because it's so ridiculous. And by the way, I missed it all week. I don't know what this is yet. I've seen his name moving around, of course, but I don't know what it was. All right. Well, let's just go. Let's get to it. Let's go to video number one. I do not support defunding the police. I do not support open borders. I do not support abolishing the Senate.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Do you think, though, that there is room in the Democratic Party under the tent of the Democratic Party for Democratic Socialists? Is it big enough? Well, listen, I don't support the DSA agenda, as has been articulated by the DSA itself. Now, you're going to have individual members who have been elected in Democratic primaries, and if they are elected in the general in November, will be part of the House Democratic Caucus. It's going to be a broad caucus. There will be progressives. There will be new Dems.
Starting point is 00:01:17 There will be blue dogs. What I'm excited about are the candidates who are running to flip seats in November. If you do, in fact, find yourself in power of January of next year, of the big issues, as you know, many Democratic candidates have been talking about, is abolishing ICE. If Democrats win back the House, if you become Speaker, would you bring a vote to abolish ICE to the House floor? First, we need a safe, secure, and strong border. We also need to proceed under the principle that immigration enforcement in this country should be fair, just, and humane. And clearly, ICE is completely and totally out of control.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Dramatic, bold, and transformational reform. That means ICE conducting itself like every other cop, police officer, and law enforcement agency in this country. ICE should be reformed, not abolished. So just to be very clear, would you bring a vote to actually abolish ICE to the House floor? Do you think that goes too far? What I've said is that we're committed to dramatically. forming ice. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:02:29 So the Democratic Socialist agenda. Okay. Which he said he's not in favor. Seeks to replace capitalism with a democratic economic system where workers and the public collectively own and control major industries and services.
Starting point is 00:02:46 Proponents aim to shift power from corporations to communities using democratic political, using the democratic political process. Okay. Distinguishing their goals from both free market capitalism and authoritarian command economies. So their core economic goals,
Starting point is 00:03:06 public and cooperative ownership bring key economic drivers such as energy production, utilities, and transportation under public, cooperative, or worker control. Anybody have an issue with that? I don't have an issue with it. It sounds like a great idea, but any time you say,
Starting point is 00:03:24 what was the word for abolished democracy? No, they said, replace. Replace capitalism. Yeah, I mean, no middle of the road sort of do nothing. Well, I've moved on for him. I was more talking about us. Oh.
Starting point is 00:03:39 So right now, it sounds great. So right now utilities are privately owned. Yeah. And then there's a deal with, you know, cities and things like that. There's a contract with cities where we subsidize most power and pay out of our tax dollars for them to build infrastructure. infrastructure and then we also pay for the power. So we pay twice.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Right. I think right now publicly owned would be like buses and trains. Okay. Are publicly owned. I'm trying to think other things in New York City that are publicly owned and ran. But we know that the people like us are going to think this is a good idea. Like why not? Why would you not?
Starting point is 00:04:29 I'm just kind of talking it through for myself. self right because because historically there have been times when things are publicly owned and then people vote for them to be privately owned because they think they can get better when they go private and then when they go private they're all about making money right and so then prices go up things get cut services become less and less and less like what though like what I think at a certain time power was private was was was publicly owned it was owned by like cities and things like that and then they offloaded it to be private because they were the there was like mismanagement right some people have done this like with um uh i think power i think in some municipalities
Starting point is 00:05:10 around the country too people have done it with like public transportation too you know what i mean or like mismanaged can happen even when it's privately owned no i think we're being ripped off by con ed every month no but i think but that's what i'm saying i'm saying that i think it's if we were to do the knowledge on it i'm sure somebody watching could probably give us better exactly But there has been an ebb and flow of it. There has been a pendulum swing of publicly owned services that we get and it's swung the other way when people voted for it to be more private also. I think both have happened. So I'm giving that context because this isn't new is my point. It's under a new umbrella because you know when you use the word because Mom Dani often points to
Starting point is 00:05:53 like FDR and Mayor LaGuardia, right, who Mayor LaGuardia is the reason we have trains. They called him a socialist Because he wanted to provide He wanted to take tax dollars And provide people with services Like this has happened in America Yeah FDR with the New Deal And these other things like it was like the government saying
Starting point is 00:06:12 Hey we're gonna subsidize We're gonna take control and make sure people have what they need And I think that's what this democratic socialist movement Is kind of swinging towards is regular hardworking families Saying hey the way it's running right now is not working Of course And it's natural it would happen now of all times when the country is basically being completely run and controlled by corporations
Starting point is 00:06:35 to tech pros and so other things for the dsa universal social safety net established completely government funded or free public goods including universal health care medicare for all child care pre-k and higher education absolutely great labor empowerment raise the minimum wage strengthen labor unions promote work uh place democracy and advanced policies like shorter work week without loss of pay yeah but we're all we're all we're all Yeah, I mean, that's why. Your light is not straight to me. Oh, sorry.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Sorry, I'm glad you told me. So like. Taxing the wealthy. Yeah, bro, we know. Why? I'm just, maybe people don't know because he, because, because remember, you'll see people like Hakeem Jeffries, who has name recognition. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:15 And who has a resume and has been a part of public life for a long time. We'll say, I am not supportive of the Democratic Socialist agenda. So like what part, right? Right. But what are you not supporting? So Video 15, Rassan, if you have it. And we could cut it short whenever you guys want. This is one also that, and this is obviously from another creator, but his take on...
Starting point is 00:07:36 Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. One piece. One piece. I'm sorry, Laura. This is a piece I was trying to get to before we're going. So they will often point to defunding the police. And you just heard him, uh, um, Hakeem say that.
Starting point is 00:07:49 The position of the DSA, criminal justice reform, scale back or defund traditional police and prison systems, redirecting those funds into community-based social services, and mental health response programs. It's what we're doing now. It's what the mayor's basically doing now. But I'm just making sure we have the detail and we communicate the detail so that when you see individuals
Starting point is 00:08:13 who have the jobs now saying, oh, they just want to defund the police. They're doing the exact work that was happening when the activists were saying defund the police is you're being dishonest. Right. You're saying it's something that it's not. You're not, well, you're not clearly articulating
Starting point is 00:08:31 what it actually is. You're just using something. You're using words, Hakeem Jeffries, that you know will cause people to overreact. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Yeah, for sure. All right, let's just quickly, video 15. Would you vote for or against Medicare for all? I think as you've indicated in your question to me, it's not legislation that I currently am co-sponsoring or that I support. What are we doing here? This is the House Democratic leader who will likely be the Speaker of the House, if Democrats take control of Congress. And this is the answer he has when asked if he supports Medicare for all. Hey, I'm Dr. Rodham, a board suburb emergency medicine physician,
Starting point is 00:09:11 and I currently call out the current administration quite frequently when they say things like we have concepts of a plan when it comes to health care. This sounds exactly like that. You have had years and years to come up with a health plan, and the best he could do in this interview is saying that we will reverse some of the things that the current administration have taken away, which is great. But we weren't in a great place before this administration came. There were millions of Americans without health care,
Starting point is 00:09:33 tons of people with enormous amounts of medical debt, and a health care system that is steeped in inequity. We simply can't go back to that. We have to do better. Our leaders need to do better. And answers like this cannot stand. He is the worst. I just want to pat myself on the back for being so early on no interest in Hakeem Jeffries.
Starting point is 00:09:54 For whatever reason, I've always felt that he sounds like a complete phony. and even when he quotes Biggie, I wasn't tricked. He's always been this. Remember he gave that speech and he was awesome. I was like, that wasn't good. He's formulaic and nothing. Are you saying he's performing?
Starting point is 00:10:16 Very performing. That's the new thing, huh? Why not? It's working. No, he's a nothing burger. He's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's Cory Booker in Brooklyn. That's it.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Well, Schumer, Hakeem, Booker, they're all getting about here? No, Booker just won again in Jersey. like he's in for another six great that that they made sure that election kind of slipped sliding you didn't get any press didn't even know that happened that was quiet that was super quiet yeah um we we don't have much time okay because we got to jump over to patreon we're jumping to patreon um we didn't do much on jaden daniels this week okay we said we were going to we never did and there's not that much to do but i just thought it was an interesting
Starting point is 00:10:59 conversation that you'd have thoughts on now that you're becoming a football parent yourself yes Sports dad. He's a sports dad. Well, the main issue is his mom is overly involved in his life and he's an adult. That's the main issue. That's the main issue. Right. And now how do we go about what's the next step here?
Starting point is 00:11:17 Because my concern selfishly as a fan of the team is you have this amazingly talented kid who could be great. But if you have this reputation of being a mama's boy, it could work out for you. If you play like Patrick Mahomes, it doesn't matter who's in your life. Well, and currently, that's how he's, I mean, he's not seen as Patrick Mahomes, but he's definitely led the team successfully. Year one, year two is injuries and a problem. Right. You know, this is a big bounce back year because of the injuries part. So if you are the greatest quarterback in the world, your mom being around doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:11:52 But the issue I have is most people have ups and downs. And when you have downs, will you lose a locker room if they view you as a guy who's mom makes all your decisions. Well, so you're going to see because he's going to be your quarterback and he's healthy, right? He's playing. Yeah, he's healthy. So you're going to get a front road ticket to how season three is going to play out. I still am in a place where I kind of like mom.
Starting point is 00:12:18 She made a mistake. The LSU thing was clearly like, what are you doing? Relax. This is crazy. Yeah, she sent a cease and desist to LSU because they didn't retire because they put his number back in circulation, essentially. She was she then, or his team, which people know to be her, sent LSU and desist and said, give us back your copy of the Heisman Trophy. We don't want anything to do with you because they put his number five back in circulation.
Starting point is 00:12:44 And it turned him into a bit of a laughing stock on the internet where people still making jokes. His dad was at practice the other day wearing a Doug Williams jersey, which is 17. And all the comments like, damn, his dad can't even wear five. Like they just won't lay off of this thing. But once again, that's just the internet jokes. It's whatever, fine, who cares. It'll be, let's say people make jokes into infinity about this situation. It hasn't been the mismanagement of his life in a way that's made him unhealthy in some way, right?
Starting point is 00:13:16 Unable to play, meaning like there's off-the-field distractions that are really. No, this is the biggest. So there's not drinking and driving. There's not, you know, exorbitant amounts of partying and things that we've seen. people. And so that's why I kind of like mom around. Because she's making sure of that. She's even sitting. Didn't you say she's going on dates? I can't. That was a lot.
Starting point is 00:13:36 That's not. It's not what you want. But hey, if it keeps them from impregnating some, you know, some rando and getting caught up in a spiral of Hollywood, you know, reality show shit, mom stay on duty. But there are 32 quarterbacks. Do you have something about some? No, I was going to ask, is everything that she's doing besides the date thing, isn't that she doing stuff that an agent normally would do? like the LSU Well, but if your agent did that You would fire them
Starting point is 00:14:05 You'd probably fire them You'd be like, what do you do? Like, it was just a bad choice You know, it just, it didn't So it was a misty. And that's why I'm just chalking it up as a bad thing. I can't, I don't think you could take being a mom
Starting point is 00:14:14 And the business misstep And then you got separated. Well, you know what I'm saying? That's all, that's what I'm thinking. How can you though? Like, well, no, meaning meaning, meaning like, for instance, what you're worried about
Starting point is 00:14:27 in the huddle or the locker room is not necessarily tied to the letter. The locker room is more tied to like, yo, so your mom's going on dates with you, bro, like, bro, you can't be a man. That part. That would be a concern. We're going out this weekend.
Starting point is 00:14:41 Now, my mom said, my mom said, I can't go. That's a problem. And now that the microscope is going to be on him. That, but that's, so that's really where the LSU part comes in.
Starting point is 00:14:51 Yeah. It is what it is. It happened. Now the microscope's on. Yeah. The mom and her decisions and her being around is a thing. And if that becomes a distraction,
Starting point is 00:14:59 Now we've got issues. Where now you're coming to practice and games emotional because you've been arguing with your mom about whatever. And by the way, we're all just making it. We're making it all this up. So we're going to see. Let me ask you a question, though. I brought this up.
Starting point is 00:15:14 A former Redskin player said to me at one point about RG3, we didn't respect him in the locker room like that because his daddy basically ran his life and his daddy was around all the time. My question is, is the mom. mom thing different? No. Is it the exact same? Or is being your daddy's boy like you're being a bitch?
Starting point is 00:15:39 Whereas being a mama's boy is like, nah, you take care of your mom, your mom. It's different. Or is it all the same? I don't know. Is it all not great? I don't know. The dad thing. So boom, somebody shows up in their dad is like, yo, that's my dad.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Yo, he runs my business. Not, or just is around a lot. It's around a lot, whatever. Feels a little bit more than the mom. The Mama's Boy thing for a man is a little bit more emasculating. You think it's more emasculating. Yes, for sure. I think you could argue it either way.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Yeah. But I see, I kind of see. Look, there was a, you know, and I'm cool with the dude now, but we used to go back and forth or whatever. And I remember, you know, he used to talk tough. Like, he was always doing on the internet being trying to try right, all this tough shit. And I remember me and him got into a couple of things. You know, he was trying to play with me in ways, whatever, blah, blah, blah. and I remember when he came up to the station one,
Starting point is 00:16:32 his mom was his manager. And you thought it was emasculating. And I was like, your mom's... All right, this is all performed. It's all performed. So it did. It is a thing. It is a thing.
Starting point is 00:16:49 I mean, let's see how he's going to play out. And I also, you know, I also thought, like maybe he was younger than I thought, too. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, I... Bro, if you're a man and your mom is still running your business and you 30, like Jayden's 20 23 24 whatever he is
Starting point is 00:17:04 by the time you're 30 but his mom is his agent and she's done a really good job like But that's what I'm saying So you're in the office now You're not But you don't need to be around all the time You're in the office
Starting point is 00:17:16 You're doing agent things Can't there be But right now she's trying to make sure You don't get one of these girls pregnant But my point is There are 32 quarterbacks in this league And all of them have to deal with the same thing not wanting to do stupid rando-ish
Starting point is 00:17:31 that's going to mess up your life. Right. He is the only one that I know of, and I love this kid, but he is the only one that I know of whose mom is literally sitting between the girls on dates. Everyone's got to deal with.
Starting point is 00:17:41 Drake May is dealing with, everyone's dealing with, by the way, a lot of these football players are married already. And that's the problem. Mom, you might have been in his business so much in college that now he doesn't have anyone.
Starting point is 00:17:52 He might have been safer doing what half these guys do, like Baker Mayfield, they've knocked someone up at 22, and then they're married their whole time. Or not. Not. Maybe they got it.
Starting point is 00:18:01 But it's hard to lead men into battle. I will say that. Some of these men on this team are 33 years old with three kids, injuries, like they got life on them. Yeah, but he's got to lead them. But he's are, but he's earned. Success earns respect. Yeah. You're right.
Starting point is 00:18:17 I'm just worried. So this year. I know my team well enough to know. There may not always be success. You're traumatized also. So you got to work your way through the times when the success is low. Look, I mean, on paper, I'm not paying attention that close. but from things I've read,
Starting point is 00:18:30 they're like a 10 and 16 or something like that? No, I don't think so. I don't think you've read that. That's not the case? No. What's going on? I think they're winning. I think they're over under wins is seven and a half.
Starting point is 00:18:43 Really? Yeah. It's not 10 and a half. No, it ain't 10. I'm not saying I don't believe that they could, I believe they could go 10 and 7. Maybe I was reading like a biased. Maybe it was a Redskins fan.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Yeah, I don't. Yeah, I think that's seven. Cowboys are still in the division, man. Cowboys, no, cowboys have a lot of expectations this year. They're gas, bro. Cowboys, Louie's going to be annoying. Yo, let me tell you something about cowboys and their expectation. Yeah, they always have.
Starting point is 00:19:08 Yeah, hit the button. Louis smiles from ear to ear. Yeah, they got a lot of expectations. Everybody got, like, the marketing is, when are you all? It's marketing. Perfect. Stop. The Yankees, marketing.
Starting point is 00:19:23 No, but the Yankees have a real history. They do. The cowboys don't. Right. Bad long ago. But the Yankees. Yankees, they're going to hover around and, you know, it's going to look cool and it's going to, maybe. Yeah, but they at least won an 09 and then they won four worlds here.
Starting point is 00:19:37 True. The Cowboys haven't won in 40 years, bro. Every year, they roll out that marketing machine, boy. So be prepared to deal with King Louis. All right. They're winning it this year. See? There you go.
Starting point is 00:19:50 Finally. All right. Time is now. Winning what? Oh, well, we're jumping over to Patreon. Please join us. That's it. Wait.
