Episode Date: July 30, 2026

Friday chaos with Clint, Meg and Dan: Dan celebrates a week off “obvious” sugar, they field an early caller confused about an R&V ticket giveaway date, and Meg finds old diaries full o...f cat-drawing practice while packing to sell her house. The team chats an 82–12 Roosters thrashing, a stat showing NZ leads in women in their late 40s never marrying, and Ben Affleck winning $1M for charity on Millionaire. They play Easy Money, vent “Things We Hate,” and reveal Dan’s Google history. Plus, they create competing alarm sounds (Karen “20 whacks,” a Morgan Freeman-style pep talk, and Clint’s chaotic entry), then debate Kmart’s $89 recording glasses and why receipts get scanned. 00:00 Unnecessary Podcast Intro 00:16 Friday Banter and Sugar Quit 01:06 Snack Comfort Confessions 01:43 Caller Confusion R&V Giveaway 03:26 Moving House and Old Diaries 06:17 NRL Blowout and Marriage Stats 10:29 Ben Affleck Million Question 13:33 First Caller Paris Proposal Talk 17:14 Naughty 640 Glue Revenge Story 21:02 More Or Less Animated Hits 23:54 Easy Money Letter K 26:09 Things We Hate Rants Begin 30:38 Listener Vents Ranger Drivers 32:01 Slow Drivers Rant 32:57 Pet Peeves Rapid Fire 33:48 Producers Diary Returns 37:51 Wahs And NRL Chat 38:27 Sport Roundup With Laura 43:18 Dans Google History 46:18 Easy Money Challenge 48:59 Greatest Alarm Quest t01:01:34 Kmart Camera Glasses Debate 01:06:23 Privacy Versus Convenience

Starting point is 00:00:00 This is a podcast from Rover. Some podcast educate, some inspire. We do neither. Welcome to the most unnecessary thing you'll listen to today. This is the Clint Meg and Dan podcast. Take the edge off for your mornings with Clint Meg and Dan. It's breakfast. Good morning and it's Friday.
Starting point is 00:00:21 Not that we've been hanging out for it or anything. No, here we are. When the countdown was on and we're finally here, the weekend's upon us. Oh, just finished a coffee. Is it time for a pre-workout? Musashi. Musashi. You know what, it's been a week today since I gave up sugar.
Starting point is 00:00:38 You guys thought I wouldn't do it. I haven't had an ounce of sugar since I'm like... Well, there's no sugar in these, even though that's unbelievable because they're the sweetest drinks you've ever had in your life. So what do you mean by sugar? Because I saw you eating chips yesterday. Oh, yeah, well then that's... If they've got sugar in them, sue me.
Starting point is 00:00:51 But I mean, like, sugar, like chocolate and lollies. Got it, got it. Why, is there sugar and chips? I'm sure there's probably... There's sugar and everything. That's the tricky thing, isn't it? Yeah, but I mean just like really obvious sugary stuff. Okay.
Starting point is 00:01:05 Good for you, Dan. Thank you. And if you want to join me, please do it. I'm feeling much better. What are your two things you could never, like, get rid of? Like, your two, what are they calling? Comfort items, like in terms of you want a snack. Well, that's the thing.
Starting point is 00:01:16 It was usually sugary, like donuts. I'd have a donut a day, almost. Pie is probably my thing now. Mine's salt and vinegar chips and beer. Like, pairing those two together on a Friday afternoon. Like, just couldn't go without them. Take a leave the beer, but salt and vinegar chips. Mm-mm-mm.
Starting point is 00:01:29 I've been really liking porridge at the moment. Hey, big, less sexy, please. Lear sexy. Yeah, let's keep it up. But I do love chips. I think you're the... I love pouring water. Are you one of the three beers?
Starting point is 00:01:45 The Clint Meg and Dan podcast. Why is there so many people calling this morning? Because obviously we love people calling. Zoe, morning. Morning. Morning, though. How can we help? I was just calling because I saw about the R&D.
Starting point is 00:01:59 giveaway. Oh, Zoe. That's next Friday, my darling. Every caller wins. You're slightly early. What's going on? Did you get up early specifically? Yes.
Starting point is 00:02:10 No, Zoe, it's next Friday. Every caller wins R&V tickets next Friday. Wait, Zoe, how much later do you normally wake up on a Friday? Oh, I have to go into uni, so it's not too bad. Well, to be fair, is that our bad?
Starting point is 00:02:24 Because on Thursday, we said next Friday, and does that mean? It's confusing. The next Friday's coming up, Or the next one after that. No, next Friday means Friday week, I reckon. Yeah, I think it does, but we said next Friday and the next Friday is today. You never go, like say tomorrow's Saturday, you never go next Saturday.
Starting point is 00:02:38 You'd go tomorrow. Well, Zoe might disagree. Yeah, yeah, it's the next Saturday, is it not? So are you poor, yeah. Poor tired of human. I'll tell you what, Zoe, why don't we do this? We will, because we have like 12 lines. Yeah, if we see your number flashing next Friday, we'll give you a priority.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Okay? Really? Thank you. You've still got to get through everyone else, I guess, on the phones. But if we see your number flashing on one of our lines, we'll pick you up. And if your name is also Zoe out there in New Zealand, use that. Yeah, what I'm going to do, Zoe is I've got a system here. I'm going to change your name to Despo Zoe.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Okay. Despo Zoe, so we know you're desperate. Okay. Okay. There we go. How do you spell desperate? I'll just put Despo. Despo.
Starting point is 00:03:26 Despo. Yeah, there we go. Yeah, okay. Spelling. That's nice. That's good. I was, I'm moving, well, I'm not moving house yet, but we're packing up a house, and I was picking up some boxes. You haven't even bloody sold it yet.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Yeah, but to keep people to look around it, you've got to pack up your house. Oh, yeah, a little bit of a staging. Do you sound a place you love or you just get your ducks in a row. We were told, we did find a place we loved, and we went in a offer, and they were told there's no point unless your house is sold. Because then... That's the power in the market at the moment. Then you've got a conditional offer going, here's our offer, and they love it,
Starting point is 00:03:55 you go, provided we sell our house. And they say, that it's just not how the market is. Nobody will take that. Nobody will take it. So we've got to like basically sell a house to buy a house, which is scary. I don't want to talk about it.
Starting point is 00:04:04 And then you've got to have this like in-between's accommodation. Yes, but please I don't want to think about it. You can always stay with the Reynolds. Megan's problem. But I'm packing up some things and I happened to find my box of diaries. I didn't have a diary like Dan. Unfortunately, I know. I look through it.
Starting point is 00:04:21 But I tell you what, this is what Meg's diary had. I had about seven diaries and they all had about two entries or so because then I gave up and forgot. That's what I used to do, I think. So many, so many notebooks and diaries. And there was one, in 2015, I believe, I would have been 24 turning 25. I had a double page spread. This is what obviously I did with my spare time.
Starting point is 00:04:42 24, 25, that's not even that young. Anyway. No, I agreed. And this is what shocked me. It's like a few years ago. 25. Yeah, thanks. 10 years ago.
Starting point is 00:04:51 What was I doing when I didn't have kids? When I didn't have a cat. I had a job at the day show at the edge and a cat. I had a double-page spread that had a title of Practices of Cat drawings and we just have lots of sketches I do wonder sometimes I'm like
Starting point is 00:05:09 What did we used to do before we had kids with all of our free time Jesus me I know Dad I know 25 years old And that's what I spent my time doing Cat let me show you a video I took of it Cat practice Oh they're not even very good as well That's my own practicing
Starting point is 00:05:26 They look like a 10 year old drawings. One of them's shockingly bad. Wow, my nine-year-old could do better, I mean. Well, that's why I was practicing. Oh God, it didn't look like they get better. But don't you think Meg, it'd be better to invest your time into something you're kind of good at to be great? There's something you're terrible at to be okay. You're arguing with, I agree with you. I don't know why I did that. Why was that my time? If I picked up that diary and read through it, I would have thought this is a diary of a mentally deranged person. Looking at those, like, little drawings.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Those pictures they show people. You know, and they go, what do you see? And they're like, this is when we knew she was a murderer. The Clint Megan Dan podcast. Clint Megan Dance. What you want you, what you want. What you got? Coming up, I'll tell you about the stat that is making New Zealand number one in the world
Starting point is 00:06:16 when it comes to something to do with marriage. Yeah, I still can't put my finger on that one. Okay, but first, did you see the absolute thrashing last night? The Roosters smashed the Cowboys in the NRL. So Meg, the Roosters are a team that have just passed the Warriors in the ladder only last week. We have been second for a long time. We lost. Roosters are playing very well.
Starting point is 00:06:39 We're now third. The Roosters won 8212, which is the second biggest winning margin in NRL history. In fact, the only time anyone's put more points on a team was back in 1935. I don't even know the thing was going for that long. Right? Neither. Yeah. I think it's amazing that athletes can keep spirits up when they get to that point.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Instead of just been like, let's just walk off. Yeah, at what point do you go, we're done? This is just utter humiliation. But the roosters can celebrate a record-breaking night in Townsville. If you were the cowboys or cowboy supporters, you'd just be going, you can do it in cricket, is it called declaring? Can you? Can you?
Starting point is 00:07:22 I think, where is it like when you're batting. Is that right? You can. Would you some Brady? You're a cricket fan? It's kind of right. It's a little bit more complicated than that, but it'd take a while to explain it to you.
Starting point is 00:07:33 Oh, okay. It sounds like... Sounds like when you're playing, like, cricket or sport with your sibling, and then you just know you can't win, so you go, oh, I don't want to play any one. You know how I know that? Because I used to play cricket as a kid, and I remember we were always declaring it.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Oh, bless you! We're always like, oh, we just declare it. So you just be like, we quit? Yeah, we're like, we can't come back from this. later, we go home. That is so dumb. All right, and where are we leading the charge in what relationship stat? Yeah, so there's been some stats released about marriage
Starting point is 00:08:04 worldwide over a survey, and apparently New Zealand is leading the stats when it comes to not getting married. So the study was done with women, and among women in their late 40s, in New Zealand, 14.1% of them here had never married, okay?
Starting point is 00:08:22 And that's compared to a worldwide average of 4.3%. So we'd nearly 10% above anywhere else in the world. And that's due to due to a lot of factors including like economic staff, people not being able to afford to get married, they just want a relationship but not wanting to make it official, they're not
Starting point is 00:08:38 getting engaged, all that sort of stuff. See it as a piece of paper type vibe. But also this stat was interesting. 70% of women in their 40s have no interest in dating. Get a girl. Whoa, whoa! Then there's trouble? Yeah. Imagine because a lot of guys... Right. Well then they're just going to step it up then. I thought you're going to say I have to... I think you're going to
Starting point is 00:08:56 they're going to have to switch teams. I don't know. You can drive. No, but I guess they've just got to step it up. I see people just being like, oh, what's going to happen if the woman being too picky? The boys just have to be better. Men just have to be better. What if we can't?
Starting point is 00:09:09 I think that is... Sorry, you'll die out. I think you're right, me. I think a lot of it is to do with the quality of the other gender. Yeah. Then you know what happens? Then a lot of cheating starts happening. Because there's a smaller pool of men.
Starting point is 00:09:20 And all the good ones are taken. So then you know what happens? How sad is that? The taken ones end up... Oh, going elsewhere. satisfyingly. All the good ones, all the bad ones can just go and live in a commune. See you later.
Starting point is 00:09:32 That sounds lovely. You know what as well? I think that's actually a good thing. Like, good on you women that are going. You know what? I'm happy in my own skin and I don't want to date, fine. If you don't add to my life, then you're not coming into it. Guys can't do that as much, eh?
Starting point is 00:09:44 They reckon statistically, men just need a companion. It's like if a partner dies or if they split, they're much quicker to move on. Yeah. And that actually works out in the statistics. as well. So 40% of men in their 40s don't, like they are actively looking for a relationship but compared to 70% of women not in their 40s. So the stats tell the truth there. So yeah. And I think if you're a woman that maybe is in your late 30s or late 40s or mid-40s and you haven't found the one yet, that's almost like safety in numbers, isn't it? You're like,
Starting point is 00:10:16 you know what, I'm not alone. I've got my girlfriends. I've got a full, busy, happy life. Yeah, I love that. Good on you. Whereas we're not complete without you. Yeah, we need a woman. I'd be stuffed without my wife Honestly Clint Megyn Dan Scandal Ben Affleck has won
Starting point is 00:10:34 One Million dollars On who wants to be a millionaire alongside Jeopardy Champion Jamie Ding The $1 million will go to Ben's charity Eastern Congo Initiative Do they make the game easier for celebs? Would you like to hear the question
Starting point is 00:10:46 Yeah And see if you two could have won as a duo The million dollar question So we would have had to answer No no no no no no no No no no no no no no no no no I'm asking you the question. Okay, sorry, I thought I was playing the audio from the show.
Starting point is 00:10:57 You're about to get the answer. Okay. In an annual Thanksgiving tradition, all but which of these have been the names of turkeys pardoned by a US president. Oh, yeah, okay. Penet butter and jelly. I think I've got some audio for this, actually. Like some, no, I think of it.
Starting point is 00:11:15 Wrong show. Okay. Peanut butter and jelly. Yeah. Tater and tot. Mac and cheese. Oh, Jesus. Or spaghetti and meatballs.
Starting point is 00:11:23 which is not a name. In an annual Thanksgiving tradition, all but which of these have been given the names given to Turkey's pardoned by a US reason. I would... The one with the mashed potato one, you had something? I think that'd be real. Peanut butter and jelly, tater and tot.
Starting point is 00:11:41 The tater and tot are real, so you've taken out B. Okay, can we find a friend? No. What's C? You've got mac and cheese. I think that'd be in there. Do you think? I think it's A or D.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Should we go peanut butter and jelly? Or spaghetti and meatball. Spaghetti and meatball. You go one, I'll go one. Okay, I'm going to go peanut butter and jelly. Okay, I'll go D. Spaghetti and Meatball. This is the answer. D, spaghetti and meatball.
Starting point is 00:12:05 Final answer. I am such a stomach. It crazy. Computer, please reveal the correct answer. I was just for charity anyway. That's so, sick. Just hits. In Auckland.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Jack. The edge. Dan. That was really funny. I was watching Celebrity Tipping Point and Luke Metcalfe, who's a half of the Warriors. He was on the show with my sister-in-law, Rebecca, who played Dawn on Shorn Street for many years. So I was watching them. And Luke Metcalfe ends up going right to the end.
Starting point is 00:12:44 He wins three and a half grand for his charity. And then they go, do you want to play for 10,000, but you've got to give me the three and a half thousand back? He goes, yeah, yeah, let's play for 10. I'm like, because it's not his money. He's going to charity. He's going to charity. He's going to charity. He's going to charity.
Starting point is 00:12:57 He's going to charity. He's like, yeah, who cares? It's scamble. Oh, God. It's true. Well, I mean, $3,000 for a charity. Is it going to help them that much? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:07 So maybe in this instance, when you are risking $750,000 to go for the million dollar question, if it's not your money, you can be a little bit more, like, chill about it. And $10,000 would help way more than three. Who knew Ben Affleck was that smart? Even if I was Ben Affleck, I'll be like, I'll keep 500. He was playing with the Jeopardy Champion. Yeah, that'd be helpful. And he did say, I rode in his coat tails the whole time.
Starting point is 00:13:28 So it wasn't him. at all. Clint, Megan, Dan. First time caller. How exciting. First time. Hi, hey. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:13:40 Paris. First time cooler worked for internal affairs. You drive a BMW. Must be nice. It must be nice. It's a good salary there. Pisces. Happily taken.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Been together for four and a half years with your partner. You're in the proposal waiting room if you're not already engaged. Surely? Yes. I'm hoping in the next two years that we get engaged. She've already gone and tried on rings, so kind of just down to him now. Okay, so on that, when you are somebody who's been dating someone for four or five plus years, you've done the ring shopping, so you know it's on the cards.
Starting point is 00:14:14 Every time you see a helicopter or a limousine or you go out to a nice fresh ride, how often are you going, could it be today? How rich is she? Helicopter. Do you know what I mean? Like anything that resembles it could be Proposal Day, you would be going, it's on, it's on. Have you noticed that must be the norm for Clint Meg? That he's like, oh, I see a helicopter I could be getting proposed to today.
Starting point is 00:14:34 He's like, oh, my God, who is it going to be? Just looking around the room. Paris, do things happen? And when it does feel outside of the norm, you start going, uh-oh, could be on here. To be honest, I don't really think like that. I think because we're both quite open about it, that I kind of know the stays that he would probably go and buy a ring, but also at the same time, I don't want to know.
Starting point is 00:15:00 Yeah So true We kind of like We kind of talk about it to the point That I know it's not going to happen Probably like now Or in the next like six months But there at the same time
Starting point is 00:15:10 I tell him I don't want to know I want nothing to do with it It's such a thing Paris I remember that as well When I was like Fighting between like Wanted to know I'm making sure he was on track to propose
Starting point is 00:15:19 And also being like But I want to be surprised It's like this kind of Yeah It's a dance It's a dance To find that line Yeah
Starting point is 00:15:25 I literally don't want to know Nothing I don't want to know When he's bought the ring I just I want to be a complete surprise, but like I know in my mind probably around the time that it's most likely going to happen. Six months, fish, wouldn't it? Now, Paris, you work for internal affairs just mentioned before.
Starting point is 00:15:42 I've always wanted to ask this question to someone that works for internal affairs. Do you know of any affairs that have happened within internal affairs? Actually, no. Okay, good. Okay, they're all above board. And do you sometimes randomly call people with private numbers to tell them they're going to jail? because for some reason that's where my head goes
Starting point is 00:16:01 if I hear about internal fears the IID they're just waiting to call someone up Are you at work now? Could you punch Meg Mansell into your computer? See what she owes. I am actually sitting at my car park spot ready to go to work.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Yes, good. You'll say no because otherwise you'd be in trouble but I wonder how often if you work in internal affairs you just go and just chuck people's names into the system to see what comes up. I used to do that all the time at the bank.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Honestly, honestly as much as it's tempting to search up your own kind of record I mean obviously we can't but sometimes that temptation is there yeah yeah no that's why we couldn't work in the dad oh I could have too tempted
Starting point is 00:16:42 yeah yeah yeah good on yeah you need above board people there well Paris I hope Christchurch has turns it on for you this weekend thanks for calling us finally don't be a stranger no thank you so much guys hope you have a great weekend yeah you too actually try to call us back
Starting point is 00:16:58 Paris next Friday. Every caller wins. Rhythm and Vine's tickets if you get on air between 6am and 10 a.m. next. Carl's going to be stressed that day. That is going to be a busy day for the producers. Yep. Yeah, hectic for him. I think he's going to lose the only hair he has on his body on his beard. I think that's all he's got left to lose. He starts molting from the chin. All right, 90640 next. Speaking of producer, Carl, was he trolled by an online story that he forwarded onto us? I saw it went AI. That's got to be fake. If it's not, it is probably the...
Starting point is 00:17:28 most petty way to get back at your partner for cheating next. Clint, Meg and Dan. It's time to get naughty at 640. This is very, very naughty for multiple reasons. It is, yeah. If true. I very, very much, though, doubt that it's...
Starting point is 00:17:46 You know what? I said it wasn't true, but I think there's, where there's smoke, there's fire. I mean, even if this isn't true, you go, has anyone ever done this in a act of revenge against a cheating partner? I'll putresa Al, Cesar Al, I'll send us this. once you start hearing like the TikTok voice you go
Starting point is 00:18:02 okay that's not a real reporter but here's the story a wife seeking revenge on her cheating husband replaced his lubricant with glue in the end the husband and his mistress ended up in the hospital in an extremely embarrassing situation a medical team spent five hours helping them
Starting point is 00:18:20 and eventually managed to separate the two five hours literally wreaks of like almost like a 13 year old boy like just making like putting something into something just trying to go Viral. Imagine Dennis the Menace with AI. Nightmare.
Starting point is 00:18:34 I, look, I think this has happened. It definitely would have happened at some point in the world. In the history of the world, someone's put glue instead of lubricant. It's like when people do eyedrops and then they end up putting glue,
Starting point is 00:18:45 like super glue in their eyes and you've seen that. So yeah, you go, it could happen. And imagine the pain. But I would do, if it was me, I would say it was Hannah and I, someone had done some sort of prank. I'd imagine it'd be me. And I would go, do everything in my
Starting point is 00:19:00 power before we called the ambulance. What does that look like? How do you... Oil. Canola oil. So, like, now Meg's stuck and very greasy. Yeah. I don't know. I just, the kind of thing that you'd sit there and go, okay, so you have to replace a whole thing of lube,
Starting point is 00:19:16 tip it out, put in super glue, which somebody would smell. The difference between super glue and lube, the smell of it, if you're like... When you're in the moment, you know, you just grab it, squirt it on. What do you talk? Jeez, guys. What was the last time you sniffed your loom? before you applied it.
Starting point is 00:19:31 You would absolutely, the smell of super glue would waft up. Have you had smelled super glue before? It's so important. It sounds like she's a glue sniffer. True. To be honest, I have smelled it from afar. But I genuinely think you could miss it
Starting point is 00:19:48 when you're in the moment. When you're in the throes of passion and everything's quick. You're wanting to like... I don't have a lot of cylinders. I don't send a lot of brain cells to my head in that moment. I'm sort of really focused on one task.
Starting point is 00:20:01 If you're putting it on them or you're putting it on yourself, it would start drying within seconds. Produce girl? Yeah, but there's so many different types of glue here. It's not like a two-part epoxy or something like that. It could be, you know, more like a PVA. Or like a gorilla glue. We use PVA and woodworkers, go.
Starting point is 00:20:18 That shit didn't stick, shit to shit. No, that's water. That's water base in a moist environment. I don't think it would work very well. You know what? I would go straight to the Terps. I think Terps fixes anything. Terps on the genitals.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Yeah, but you have it's better than glue. You're fighting fire with fire. No, I didn't know if I put turps in my vagina. You know what I think... What a sentence. Click that. Cut that. I think you'd have a Ross Leather Pants' Friends episode scenario where you just keep putting
Starting point is 00:20:45 stuff on and saying he just makes it so much worse. You don't need to keep talking clip. We got her. Put that. So just the turps on the vagina. But that's all we need. We got there in the end. Thanks, guy.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Job done. God. The long. The long. ways we go around to try and get Meg some time. Clint Meg and Dan's more or less. Okay, more or less this morning is about the highest grossing animated movies all time. I don't know if I've done this one, have I?
Starting point is 00:21:13 I don't think we have, not animated. I think we've done grossest, like grossing movies just generally. Yeah, these are like animated kids' movies. Okay. It's more successful. Toy Story 4 or Toy Story 3. All tricky, because they were both huge. Would it get bigger and bigger?
Starting point is 00:21:30 I think as this franchise went on, it would have picked up more fans. What's the latest one? Five. Five. It's really good, too. I think from memory, the Toy Story 4 was like the final one. So let's go four. Four more story four.
Starting point is 00:21:44 Yeah, great. Yeah, 1.073 billion? Bloody hell. Finding Dory or Zootopia? Dory. You reckon? I don't know. Because finding Dory was the, it was obviously, This sequel to Nemo.
Starting point is 00:22:00 Yeah. Get in. Correct. Finding Dory $1.029 billion. Zootopia 1.26. Very close, boys. Despicable me, four, or despicable me,
Starting point is 00:22:13 two. These are very close. Yeah, this is the thing with these ones. I never know. The Arrican two, and then everyone went off the boil and didn't care as much. They're all same same.
Starting point is 00:22:21 I think I'd agree there. It became more about the minions, didn't it? Yeah, they say number two. No. Damn it. Bugger. Just keep going with our...
Starting point is 00:22:30 Doing so well, eh? Doing so well, no. Only 180,000 between them, though. So basically the same for movies. All right, finding Nemo or the Super Mario Galaxy movie. Ooh, now you get... I love that movie, by the way. You'd capture the Super Mario audience with the gaming as well.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Mm-hmm. True. But then finding Nemo... That was the other option. Is one of the most successful Disney movies of all time, you would say? Yeah, it's a shot in the dark for me. I think you'd say, if you'd name a top five Disney movies, Nemo would be in me. Yeah, I guess go to go Nemo.
Starting point is 00:23:00 I feel silly to go against it. Yeah, yeah, and finding Nemo very well. And the final one, boys, for the highest gross and animated films of all time, The Secret Life of Pets or Inside Out? Inside Out. I'd say Inside Out, wouldn't you? Secret Life of Pets, I don't think I've ever seen. Actually, it's so good. Oh, maybe I'm missing it here. I'll leave this to you.
Starting point is 00:23:20 Well, the problem is you sort of said your answer quite quickly, and Meg didn't ding you instantly, which makes me think he was wrong. Okay. What do you think? I was waiting for both of you the answer, but... Inside out. No, obviously, because I wouldn't think that.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Oh, goodness sake. Stick with your fairies, Clint. Oh, we didn't get a perfect score anyway. I am that transparent clip. Yes. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, damn it. That was done for me.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Okay, well, we can win next with Easy Money, another $1,000 up for grabs. Yeah, you just have to give us 10 answers and 30 seconds, starting with the letter Meg gives you, and we'll put a thousand bucks tax-free into your account today. It's the letter K. Oh, there you go. Clint, Meg and Dan.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Your favorite game on the edge. Just hits Easy money Here we go 30 seconds on the clock The letter is K If you can give us 10 answers Starting with K
Starting point is 00:24:07 Then the cash is yours No repeated answers though And remember with K You've got K words K words and N words I think K would be one of the letters I would want In the top three
Starting point is 00:24:18 Really? Yeah because it's one of those ones It's quite clear And succinct what Words you'd be wanting for All right well Ben's playing this morning He is originally from Florida Morning Ben
Starting point is 00:24:28 Where'd be Ben Good morning Good morning Come to New Zealand to try and steal all of our radio cache Oh wow Oh yeah
Starting point is 00:24:35 Good on you Okay Ben you've been in New Zealand For three years Have you been listening And playing to this game In the background And think you do pretty okay
Starting point is 00:24:44 Or just gonna fluke it Yeah you know I've been helping my wife So Okay good Good on you Let's do this Your letter is K
Starting point is 00:24:52 Here we go All right All right All right let's see We can get you that nice hotel He says He says he's going to post Malone So he wants a nice hotel
Starting point is 00:24:58 30 seconds on the clock. Time starts at the end of Meg asking your first question. Give me an animal. Hangaroo. A store that sells clothing. Kmart. Something you'd find in a fridge. A word ending an I-N-G.
Starting point is 00:25:19 King. A band. The killers. A measurement. A word with a silent letter. Nice. A female musician. Cape.
Starting point is 00:25:37 time bed. You got six passed on two, but I think it's one of those ones if nothing comes to mind instantly bent you just pass it. What did he pass on to? Something in the fridge you could have said ketchup, kiwi fruit,
Starting point is 00:25:51 kale or kombucha. What was the other one that he passed on? Oh, true. That last question, I heard you throw out a pass and then decide to have a crack at it. Female musician. Katie Perry, casher.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Yeah. Patty Perry, yeah. It was good effort, though, Ben. You did great, Ben. Thank you. Thank you. Another chance to play at 8 this morning. Yeah, it's really generous of Ben to throw that
Starting point is 00:26:10 so that you can win at 8 o'clock. That was lovely of them. Coming up next, we used to do a segment called Things We Love, and it was a nice positive thing to do on a Friday, wasn't it, leading into the weekend, looking at the world in a positive way? Well, we're going to do something a bit negative next. So things we hate.
Starting point is 00:26:24 Sometimes it's nice also to like vent on a Friday, get it out before the weekend. True, get all the negative energy out of your body. Yeah. So you can start calling us now, oh, 800 the edge. Just have a vent on stuff you hate, whether it be cyclists. People that drive Toyota aquas, you know, that sort of stuff.
Starting point is 00:26:40 Your favourite. Yeah. Clint Megan Dan's. Dan's looking to have a rant going into the weekend. Get off your chest, mate. Yeah, we're looking for a bed at the moment, my wife and I, because our bed is about 15 years old. Oh, yeah, they say about 10 years.
Starting point is 00:26:52 You know, I've never owned a good bed, a new bed. I've always had hand-me-down ones or someone else has slept in it before me. It's been their workbench, and now it's my workbench. We're going to get a brand new bed because, you know, you're going to be sleeping really well. Mate, that old workbench has seen some stuff in 15 years. Oh, my goodness. a lot of work. Anyway, so we're in a shop.
Starting point is 00:27:09 I won't name the shop. But I just can't stand salespeople. As a whole? Well, in general. And in particular, Hey, can I help you with anything, sir? Get out of it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:22 Like pushy salespeople to a certain degree. And it's not necessarily, like, I will ask if I need help. A person coming up to me is not going to sell me a bed. Can I just put that out on the table right now? So the man came up to us. You don't think so? Who sells it to you?
Starting point is 00:27:38 Well, I'll go up and say, I want this bed. But what about if he goes, well, do you like firm or what are you looking for? I'll ask. I will ask. And, you know, whenever I go into a shop. Hey, Meg doesn't work. They don't yell at it. If I go into a shop and someone will go, do you need any help, fine.
Starting point is 00:27:53 And I'll usually go, I'll sing out if I need it. I don't want someone to come up to me and follow me around the shop trying to sell me something. I don't like it when you're made it very clear of like, we're just browsing and they still follow you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What song? Okay, got it. What song? What song?
Starting point is 00:28:06 What do you mean? When you sing out to them to let them know. I go need some help please. Anyway, so this guy came up to us and he was talking about the bed and I was getting more and more angry because I'm like, I'm just browsing. Yeah. And he said, and Hannah was looking at a bed and she was like, what about this one? She kept asking him questions.
Starting point is 00:28:21 I'm like, Hannah, shut up. Oh, God, yeah. Yeah. And he goes, you won't want that one because you'll get rolled together because your husband is, in quote, this is a quote from the man, much bigger than you. And I was like, bro. Like, yes, I'm bigger.
Starting point is 00:28:38 But say, like, just don't say that. He was like, you'll get rolled together. You need something, and then he showed us something more expensive, like $5,000 more. Maybe you mean you're swall. And I was like, jacked. Maybe I want her to roll into me. It doesn't happen often. True.
Starting point is 00:28:51 You know? Who thought about that? Thing to say, imagine if it was the other way around. I know. It's just so wild. Like, he wouldn't say that. Yeah. You'll get rolled together because she's much bigger than you.
Starting point is 00:29:02 You can you imagine? Oh my God. So anyway, we ended up. not buying a bed because of this guy. Yeah. So I wanted to do this morning, I went under the edge. Things we hate. For me, it's pushy salespeople.
Starting point is 00:29:14 Just stay out of my way. If I want to buy something, I'll buy it. I don't need you to tell me what to buy, unless I ask. For me, slow walkers. Especially when we're on the cruise ship. It's 2,500 people. No one was in a rush. Because there's nowhere I used to go.
Starting point is 00:29:29 True. By the end of it, I was like, oh my God, pick a side of a corridor and move your ass. What's so strange is that you're the last person to be in a rush. Like, am I not wrong there? True. If we need to rush somewhere, Clint is always the slowest. So if it's slow for you, I can't even imagine. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:47 Usually it's in malls as well. You know, there's always a slow person in a mall. When I'm in a mall, I want to get in and get out. And there's usually some slow old bag that's walking along. I think I got confused with the topic because I said when my dressing gown loop gets caught on the door handle. But are we doing more people? How often is that happening than this thing? But that's cool. Because I also hate when autocorrect changes the right word to the wrong word.
Starting point is 00:30:10 And I'm like, no, don't change it. That's, typically it's with New Zealand place names. Because your phone doesn't recognise the Māori place name and it changes it. And I'm like, I had that spelled perfectly. When am I ever saying ducking? Yeah. Yeah, exactly. It's the other one I'm saying frequently. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:26 Things we hate. Let's get off the chest going into the weekends. I'll make you feel better. So you still rocking the same old workbench. So far, yeah. We're going again today though. Mate, if that mattress could talk, oh yeah. It'll be about a three-minute conversation.
Starting point is 00:30:41 Clint, Meg and Dan. Leshko! Right now, doing things we hate. There's a lot of texts coming through for this, a lot of angry people. And hopefully it gets it off your chest, right, Meg. You get the negativity out of your body before the weekend. Indeed, and then it's gone.
Starting point is 00:30:55 It's free like a bird. Do you know what I know? Meg hates, I'm the same. When you see an avocado sitting there, and it's like, too hard, too hard, too hard, too hard, too hard. Rotten. Rotten. You've got a couple of hours.
Starting point is 00:31:08 Yeah. That's it. And you might be sleeping. It might be 1 to 2 a.m. You don't know. Avocados are like the kind of surprise of the natural world. You never know what you're going to get inside it. You can say it's a perfect one in its stuff.
Starting point is 00:31:20 All right, it's good, Jason. Jason, what do you hate? I hate Ranger drivers and also Patholes. Now, this is so funny. Jason, every time we do this segment, people call up about Ranger drivers. What is it about them? I had one this morning. I don't know why they're all bred the same
Starting point is 00:31:37 Yeah, what is it about them that you think? They doodle and then they don't indicate and they go in front of you, it's just like, why? Yeah, they have to be in the front of the motorway. That's a shame. My brother, I don't think that's a bit possible. They're still looking. My brother and my dad both drive forward ranges.
Starting point is 00:31:51 That sounds a lot. Yeah, they like to get in front and then hold everyone up. It's great. Okay, so it's Ranger drivers. Ranger drivers for Jason. I love that. Ethan, morning. Morning, how are you?
Starting point is 00:32:04 Yeah, good, Ethan. So this is another driving-based one. Yep, yep. I can't stand slow drivers that are on main highways, and they have a long line of cars behind them, and they won't have the courtesy to pull over. Amen, brother. Now, this is a massive thing in my family.
Starting point is 00:32:21 When we're on the road, we quite often go down to Lake Tarawrera, and there's always at least two or three on that journey down that hold up everyone. It causes accidents. Yeah, my husband and I, when we hired a caravan one summer, or a camper van and it was so fun to be the good the good bastard that pulled over.
Starting point is 00:32:38 I honestly felt like a legend. I felt like such a legend. And I always do that, I always do that when you drive past. And I go oh, thank you, you're welcome. I'm one of them. Thanks Ethan. It's the people that speed up in the parcel lane as well.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Like you're doing 75 the whole way. You get your pass lane to do 100 and I'm like, what are you doing? This is an opportunity for you to just stay at the speed you want it to be at while we all go around you. Yeah. A few other mentions people that are late. I hate that as well
Starting point is 00:33:04 like valuing their time over yours that's always a good one loud chewers and conversation hijackers someone said people that like you're in a conversation and then they come in over the top of you and finish it
Starting point is 00:33:17 yeah yeah yeah we actually call my sister and all that she's the hijacker we have another name actually for us well that's probably not as PC to share on radio but it's because she'll literally be listening to a story and then she'll take over and then her argument was well you're taking too long to get to point.
Starting point is 00:33:34 I love that she defends it instead of just being like, oh gosh, that's embarrassing. I hate also when you're showing somebody a video, you're like, oh my God, you need to watch this. And just as you get to the good bit, it starts buffering. Oh, nothing worse. And the word Wi-Fi dies. And you're like, hold on, hold on. Buffering in general.
Starting point is 00:33:49 Yeah. Keep it coming through. All right, we have the producers Dario highlights of this week coming up next. What do you reckon, producer Brady? How do you reckon you've gone this week? Yeah, I think it was a right. You guys gave me some good bits to work with, so. Okay.
Starting point is 00:34:03 Who comes out the worst this week out of interest? Probably you. Shouldn't have asked. Definitely worse sticking it out then. Clint, Meg and Dan. Oh my gosh. All right. Let's get into highlights of the week.
Starting point is 00:34:15 That's rhetorical living. Gidey, it's Brady here and welcome back to the producer's diary. I think it's been nearly a month since we've had one of these. Full team, full steam this week, though. And it's been a bloody ripper of a week. It didn't take Dan long to start giving Clint a bit of shit about his who or three-week long haul. holiday that he took. Do you know, you have those moments,
Starting point is 00:34:34 not necessarily just on holiday, but even just in life sometimes you go, how did I end up here? Oh yeah, how many bad decisions did you make to go on a cruise on your holiday? Sucks to be, Clint, hey. Pray for the Randals. And it also didn't take much longer for Meg
Starting point is 00:34:49 to start getting her words mixed up. What does Meg me? We've spoken about this at verbatim. That's how I say it, Dan? At nauseam. Nauseum. Vibatim is like word for word. She gave it a pass?
Starting point is 00:35:01 Yeah. And that's all right? like that you try stuff. We then found out Dan is a lover and not a fighter after he told us a story of a scary runner and during a game of Craps in Las Vegas a few years ago. I always got arrested in America. We're playing a game called Craps in a Vegas hotel where you have to roll the dice and you have to throw it across the table.
Starting point is 00:35:18 I was getting it wrong. I'm like so uncalled me. Because you've got to hit the back end. And so the man that was running the table, that you need to throw them harder or I'm going to have to kick you off the table. And it came around to my turn again. I threw them. One dice hit the back wall perfectly.
Starting point is 00:35:31 The other one went straight and. to the face of this huge musly dude, hits him right in the nose, and he goes, who throws a dice at another man's face? Like that, and I'm like, oh my God, I'm so sorry. I just didn't know how to play. He's like, that's a salt!
Starting point is 00:35:45 His face starts bleeding. I started crying. You wouldn't read about it. I don't believe you cried. He was bleeding. I made a guy that plays with a steeler's bleed from the nose, from a dice. That's why I'm now known as vanilla dice.
Starting point is 00:35:57 No. Bit gutting couldn't make anyone laugh there, Dan. Moving on. We're a bunch of professional broadcasters here on the show, though, right? Well, you're a professional broadcaster, Clint. Of course you would. I'm not a professional broadcaster. Clearly, I'm not.
Starting point is 00:36:13 Might have to throw the training wheels back on for the time being shocker. A Lister was back this week, and we spoke to the lovely Jesse. And I think accent of the week might have to become a feature in the producer's diary because just take a listen to this guy. Good morning, team. So you think McCauley Colkin is a what? I got to put him at a bee, man. Like I said, in my tag, his own children don't know that he's Kevin McAllister in the movie.
Starting point is 00:36:37 They know that their mother is London Tipton. True, London Tipton. Yeah, yeah, Brendan's a song. I love your voice, by the way. You sound incredible. I'll take that. Where are you from, Jesse? I am from Florida, but I live in Christchurch.
Starting point is 00:36:48 Oh, beautiful, great. Wow, the weather is so different. Yeah, Christchurch, the Florida. Oh, my God, it's so different. Okay, can you call every morning. Okay, yeah, we love you, Desic. Can you even voice some stuff. Oh, he'll be my alarm.
Starting point is 00:36:59 Speaking of alarms, Clint Megan, Dan have been on a quest this week to find the greatest alarm. There's been some great suggestions from you, but this is one of my personal favourites. Hey, how's it going? Good. How long has this been your alarm for? Oh, a few years now. What are we waking up to?
Starting point is 00:37:13 It's been from Jurassic Park. Nice. Oh my God. This could be the perfect sound. I think the key is one instrument. And then after maybe 10 seconds you bring in a second. And you layer it. It's not one of those songs where you'll passionately love it.
Starting point is 00:37:26 Oh, it's so beautiful. It needs a dinosaur over the top of it, doesn't it? Like a... Shots, Havelendous. Sorry. You're dead. And you did a wookie. I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:37:42 Why should you do Chubuckers? It's not Star Wars, mate. That wraps it up for Producer's Diary this week. Have a good weekend, your bloody legends, and we'll catch you back on Monday. Up the Whars, baby. Thank you, Producer Brady. Up the Wards.
Starting point is 00:37:56 Take it on Gold Coast Titans tomorrow night. And last night, it was a record scoring game. The roosters put 82 points on the Cowboys. It is second biggest hiding in NRL history since 1935. Wow. That's incredible. Yeah. Not a good stat to have.
Starting point is 00:38:15 So the Titans are currently 13th on the tally, so we'd pretty safely beat them, right? And we're third. But they have a bit of a bogey team. They get up against us quite often, and we are playing over there in the Gold Coast. We'll see. Hopefully the Wires get it done tomorrow night.
Starting point is 00:38:28 The Clint Megandandand podcast. It's Clint Megan Dan's. Sport Roundup with Laura McGoldrick. Laura Good, how are you? Yeah, good, not as busy as you, no doubt, going into a weekend. Look. No, I'm not busy.
Starting point is 00:38:45 You don't sound like you're at a bar drinking apparel spritzes at the moment. Yeah, do you know how to relax? To be honest, I'm standing here in my underwear trying to get dressed on here, but other than that. You know, yeah, I mean, giving the people what they want. Come on now. Have we got you in a bad time? Are you grumpy? No, I'm not.
Starting point is 00:39:04 I get slightly nude, but I'm better now. we're dressed on. You've got to stop saying that to us, Laura. Like a good nude. Anyway. Yeah, I know. We all know. This is not a bad Laura nude, is there?
Starting point is 00:39:18 There's a couple of bad versions. I'm working on it. Anyway, we're just cleaning up at the balladrome in the Commonwealth Games. I'm trying to keep tabs with how many medals we've just. The rest of the world is just lucky. There's no rowing at the Commonwealth Games. I know. And did you see, you would have seen it swimming how well we did.
Starting point is 00:39:32 Yeah. And we're going to the athletics track today. We've got Tom Walsh in the shop. We love Tom Walsh. We know what he can do. I saw he was a one and done and his qualifying. He threw it like a metre past qualifying and was like, that'll do. How badass is that?
Starting point is 00:39:44 Like just seriously, you walk out there, you're half at once. They're like, right, you're true. He's like, right. So you guys, like, everyone else has got to like just luck it out and try and have a go. But anyway, what I think people should do is not have to listen to me, but just turn on the tally on like three or three now or on Sky and watch me on mute and listen to you guys. That seems like a fair and reasonable.
Starting point is 00:40:03 Oh, that sounds absolutely horrendous. I took absolute crap. But, so it would be, yeah, I think that's probably a bit away for everyone. The Commonwealth Games, is this some sort of record for Australia? Like, I'm looking at the middle to telly now. So they're on 49 golds and the next, the second place is second England on 14. Yeah. Those Aussies just are really annoying.
Starting point is 00:40:24 And what's worse than anything else is having to hear that friggin' national anthem, which is actually a bit of a banger. I don't mind it. But it's really getting on my nerves, having to listen to it that many times, certainly around the pool as well. I just want to add it a couple more at the Velladrome as well. Is it hard, Laura, reporting on the Commonwealth Games or Olympics and things like that, because you have to know a little bit about everything.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Yes. Some of it might be slightly learning on the go. Like the Winter Olympics, I cannot relate to a single event in the Winter Olympics. Like, oh, I'm going to stand at the top of the mountain. I'm going to lie on top of somebody. I think we should just fly down this thing. Like, that is not something that me personally I would go. Team loose.
Starting point is 00:40:59 Yeah, that was weird. What sport are you watching? Yeah. Oh, no. I'm going to send you some videos. it's good. But yeah, you sort of just have to know a bit of everything. But the good thing is if you have been doing it for long enough,
Starting point is 00:41:12 so this would be like my, I think my third comm games in a row. I'm very young, though. You sort of get to know some of the athletes as you go, which is quite much. So I don't have to do so much, like, research and stuff because I've already heard of them, you know what I mean? I'd love to see your chat chippy tea history and the things you're asking.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Oh, that's a personal reason. That's not a really important. She doesn't use that for sport, mate. Yeah, I don't use that. She uses that for people lying on top of each other up on the snow. Yeah, yeah. in the snow, different sport, different gravy. But happy to, happy to investigate further.
Starting point is 00:41:40 Hey, Laura McGoldrick, thank you so much. Enjoy the Commonwealth Games. Bring us back a top of all around. Go get dressed. Oh, absolutely. I'm dressed now. I'm dressed. Okay. You thought I was grumpy? It was because I got my head stuck in the top of my dress. But other than that, I'm good. I'm good. You're good. Love you guys. Have a great day.
Starting point is 00:41:54 You too. Maybe a chance for us to bring back, Am I naked? Oh, yes, we do love that game. Yeah, let's play that game. Yeah, let's play that game. Call me every Friday. See you, Laura. See you, mate. Bye. Bye.
Starting point is 00:42:05 Tom Walsh has taken out silver in the shot put and David Litti has scored us another gold in the weightlifting. We punch above our weight, don't we? Yeah. Even though Australia are massively leading the medal tally. They have a bloody good national anthem. I think it's top three for me.
Starting point is 00:42:26 Listen to that harmony. The Talae version of our one's the best, though. We can't beat it. Really? I go controversially maybe the American one. It goes hard at the end. A bit of an update for you. If you were in Blockhouse Bay or you were in the area and you bought a lotto ticket,
Starting point is 00:42:43 the 20 million is still not being claimed. 20 million Blockhouse Bay suburb of Auckland. Yeah. Blockhouse Bay, post-shop and station is in Auckland. They have not gone back and claimed their winning. How is that even? If I'd be straight-up. Yeah, so the person with the My Lotto app are a young couple in Auckland
Starting point is 00:43:00 and he cheeked the app just as they were going to bed on the Saturday night and then jumped done a bed and screamed to his partner and they've been pasted up and down the bedroom. She needs some time to think about it. I guess because it's online you don't have to freak out. Yeah, so they split it and the other ticket that won the 20.1 million has not been scanned since.
Starting point is 00:43:17 Damn. If that's lost. I'll take it if you don't want it. We go through Dan's Google History at next. Would you give your phone to your friends and let them rifle through it? Probably not, but thankfully Dan does. The Clint Megan Dan podcast. What's in Dan's Google
Starting point is 00:43:30 history? Isn't sexy? Is it weird? Will it's all. Big mystery But just a thing you would feel An inside into our lovely Dan's mind Of what happens behind the scenes And what he Googled in his own time Thanks for calling me lovely Dan
Starting point is 00:43:45 That's lovely Some of the OG listens to our show I reckon they'll be like Oh my God, it's back Dan said one time only Because engineering are currently doing a deep dive Through his Google history After he got the work computer a virus
Starting point is 00:43:56 I expected this one to be in there Is a tan supposed to look darker When first applied? I googled that the other day Because we got a photo shoot and I went and got a tan and I looked like a different nationality. Put it that way.
Starting point is 00:44:09 Wasn't good. This one, my thing, you could have just asked your friends as well. Does eating it no sugar make you grumpy? Yes. So there you go. Hannah said yesterday. She was like, God, you've been grumpy lately. Is that the withdrawals?
Starting point is 00:44:22 How long does that last? I don't know. I feel like I've been really happy. What did it say? It said that it does. But only initially, I think it said initially, but then after a while you get back into a groove where it's just normal.
Starting point is 00:44:34 This one had a two-pronger So the first Google was Does nose hair have a purpose Then he must have found out what he wanted to And then he googled Where can I remove nose hair Oh yeah So you wanted to get that way
Starting point is 00:44:49 So ever since I turned 30 Which is like seven years ago now I started growing like Nose hair Is anyone else do that Like do you make Is it a thing for girls? It's not I've got chin hair though
Starting point is 00:44:59 Yeah But like it's just become a thing Where it's like I'll be driving in the car look in the rear vision mirror and there'll be a big hair hanging up my nose. Some places where you go and get like a fade, some barbers, we'll have like this like blue wax or whatever
Starting point is 00:45:12 and they shove it up your nose and then they let it dry and then just rip them all out in one go. So maybe I need to get that done. It's probably just a taste of what we're going to go through. Nosehers do have a purpose by the way. They like filter out stuff like germs. So you didn't care about that? No, no. No, obviously not. Obviously not.
Starting point is 00:45:29 It's not sad, but obviously a moment of low self-esteem. Best way to lose body fat. That one came up a few times. I quite often. I Google that weekly. Yeah, I know. It always pops up whenever I do this game. What is the best way?
Starting point is 00:45:43 Stop eating donuts? I think that's the pies of the issue. Yeah. The pies are the issue. And the final one for this week, does Donald Trump wear nappies? What's in dance? Google history?
Starting point is 00:45:54 It's insetsy. It's weird. What is your findings on that one? It's inconclusive. Apparently he does smash. like poos. So, apparently, yeah. What? That's just, I mean, I don't like the guy. In fact, I despise him, but I'm not, I mean, that's just obviously a dumb rumour. You know, there's a lot of visual, like, evidence of people around them, like, going like, oh, what's that smell?
Starting point is 00:46:18 Like, you can see montages online. Really? Google it. Clint McGon Dan. Your favourite game on the edge just hits. Easy, my me. Oh! Just on 8 o'clock, Clint McGon Dan.
Starting point is 00:46:30 So Meg's a little distracted by one of the English 400 metre. Commonwealth runners. He's running in his reading glasses. He's running in his glasses. He's got silver dyed here, and he looks like he's straight out some sort of like romance fantasy, sort of Liberian thing.
Starting point is 00:46:45 Oh, Meg. Yeah, she's in love. I'm not allowed. I'm just, it just, it just, he doesn't look like he runs track. Can we agree with that? Yeah, no, he's not your classic track runner. And based on where he's coming.
Starting point is 00:46:56 Maybe not. Maybe he doesn't need to find a side hustle. I think his reading glasses are weighing him down. Yeah. Well, unfortunately, he doesn't look like he's going to be... Hey, New Zealand's doing well. It looks like we might finish third. It's just a heat.
Starting point is 00:47:10 You can catch it all on SkySport. The latest gold medal was Dave Leaty, if you missed that earlier this morning in the weightlifting. A combined snatch and also clean and jerk of 330-odd kilos. Yeah, God, we're doing well. Speaking of winning, it's time to try and win easy money right now with Rosie from Wellington. Rosie's the first time caller too.
Starting point is 00:47:31 Oh, imagine it. First time you call us, we give him. you a thousand bucks. Morning. Hey Rosie, what are you going to do with the thousand bucks if you win? Well, I just said I'd take my family to Rainbow Zen, so I'd better do that, I guess. Nice. Yeah, Rainbow Zen, the Disney of New Zealand.
Starting point is 00:47:47 Yeah, head up the North Island from Wellington. That sounds fun. All right, well, all you've got to do is give us 10 answers. Starting with the letter... Why? Why? Why? Okay, no repeated answers.
Starting point is 00:47:58 And if you can do that for us, we'll give you a thousand bucks. Yeah, okay. who can do this, Rosie. Good luck. Give me a girl's name. Something you'd use when you're baking. A brand. A song title. Yellow.
Starting point is 00:48:24 An occupation. You're a good maker. Something round. A five-letter word. A TV. Time, Rosie, time. No bumper boating for your kids. Yeah, it was a tricky one.
Starting point is 00:48:44 When you passed on the first question, I was not. hopeful. What'd you have for girls' name? Yolanda? Yasmin, Yasmin. Oh yes! I am. Evette, Yasmin, Yolanda. Yolanda. Yvonne is another option. Yeah, yeah. Sorry about that. Rosie, Nick Shotsplay next week. Yep. I'll bring you back on Monday, seven and eight.
Starting point is 00:49:02 We're finally doing it. We've all made alarms. Yeah. Yeah. This has been a contentious thing all week. The best alarm sound to wake up to. We've had a few options, haven't we? Yep. And from those options, I've actually gone and changed. my actual alarm that I wake up to. Me too. The problem is Meg, I love it so much that I snooze it and then I wait for it to come around again.
Starting point is 00:49:24 It has been for me so far the perfect alarm because it starts off so nice and easy to listen to. Yeah. But have myself Meg or Dan created an original sound that is the greatest sound to wake up to? I have a feeling all our alarms are going to be very different. Yeah, we actually don't know each other's,
Starting point is 00:49:42 so we will be hearing them at the same time that you do. I saw them sitting on my bottom. this morning and part of me was like oh my god I could just I was like no I want the surprise Clint's involved seagulls yeah mate it's a beautiful sound I'm up by the beach It's not a beautiful found at all
Starting point is 00:49:57 No one goes I love a seagull It's the edge Clint Megan Dan's Quest for the greatest alarm Yeah We're halfway through the year And after coming back from holiday I was getting PTSD set my alarm again
Starting point is 00:50:12 I was like you know what I need new sound to get me through to the end of the year And these ones That gives me anxiety hearing them. Yuck. That's my one. That's my one. And my alarm now is the Jurassic Park fan, which I'm loving.
Starting point is 00:50:28 Thank you for the suggestion earlier on this week. This is also another suggestion which, according to the internet, is the second best song to wake up to in the world. They're with us. But maybe the greatest sound to wake up to doesn't exist yet because we haven't created it. Now, Dan, you did tease us with something, which I thought was honestly inspired. Yeah, so I've made my alarm and involves New Zealand A-list celebrity. In fact, I would call her a national treasure Karen 20F in Wax.
Starting point is 00:51:02 She went famous, she went viral. I would say probably coming up 10 years ago now, maybe even more, where she left a message on someone's voicemail. It was the wrong person. They released it on YouTube. It went viral. You may have heard it. Have we got a clip of $20?
Starting point is 00:51:16 like Karen somewhere. I'll find her. Because you would know her. Rachel said she can ignore me and hide from me for her 20 lousy dollars. I'll tell you what, I'll get my 20 bucks. Or she's going to get 20 f***ing wax. And we went on for about two minutes saying she sent it to the wrong person
Starting point is 00:51:36 and that person uploaded it to the internet and now we know her as Karen. So my alarm is pretty much all Karen. And I called her the other day. I used to have her number for some reason because I used to be a producer. She's lovely. She agreed to doing it. Now, we are yet to hear it, Dan, but it doesn't feel like the type of alarm
Starting point is 00:51:55 that you snooze and come round a second time. This is the type of person that will have this alarm is someone that likes a bit of a laugh. They're a proud New Zealander and they want to get woken up quickly. Here is your alarm from me. Hello, this is Karen. You think you can ignore.
Starting point is 00:52:17 me and snooze me even though you need to go to work. Well, I'll tell you what, you'll get out of bed. Or you're going to get tweety fucking wax. Twenty fucking wax. Not my fault you're a mental crazy lady that wanted to stay out late. Not my fault you
Starting point is 00:52:33 scrolled on TikTok all night. Get the fuck up! You're not getting out of bed after that. I mean it's so good. It's so good, Dad. I thought it was brilliant. I don't want it. It caused me great anxiety. My wife who sleeps next to me.
Starting point is 00:52:49 Would not love that at 4. No, I would never have it, but it's God, it's good. And you know the crazy thing? We called Karen. I wrote this script and sent it to her, and she wrote it out on a piece of paper. Bless her. And we called her to record it. One take.
Starting point is 00:53:00 Bam. Just like that. She was just like that. Fine. I was like, yeah, see you later. I think your alarm is for the type of person that A, doesn't snooze and also sleeps alone. Yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:09 Yep. Yes, yes. A single person. That's perfect. And I think it's for someone that presses sleep a lot. You won't press sleep there. You'll be straight up. Meg, you've said yours is for everyone, which is smart.
Starting point is 00:53:19 Mine is for a couple that are sleeping together, but the relationship is still pretty fresh in you. Clint Megan Dan's quest for the greatest alarm. We have now heard Dan's alarm where you got Karen 20F and wax to yell at you to get out of bed. I thought it was brilliant. Do we want to have a little clip of it just so people that weren't listening before have a fine?
Starting point is 00:53:43 Sure, it feels like you're getting two players. Hello. This is Karen. you think you can ignore me and snooze me even though you need to go to work well I'll tell you what you'll get out of bed or you're going to get tweety fucking wax
Starting point is 00:53:58 you get the gist yeah it goes on and on quite aggressive yeah it is and you know what some people need that to get out of bed agreed I haven't gone aggressive I tried to think of what is the world's most
Starting point is 00:54:10 relaxing sort of like inspiring inspiring relaxing music which I thought is agape It's a piece of music that, as from a movie, it's amazing. And then I thought about whose voice is the most inspirational in the world. Morgan Freeman? Morgan Freeman. Wasn't given budget.
Starting point is 00:54:41 Good morning. You're awake. You made it to another day. And good things are waiting for you. That first sip of coffee. Sunlight through the curtains. fresh air on your face. Music in the car.
Starting point is 00:54:58 A good laugh. So get up. Your life is waiting for you. And you have no idea what wonderful thing might happen today. Now, as I said, I wasn't given budget. So that was Andrew from Utah. I paid him $13 to do that for me. Morgan Freeman from Wish.
Starting point is 00:55:14 From Utah. From Utah. Yeah. That wasn't even as good as AI could have done it. I didn't want to use AI. I wanted to use a human being. You could tell. So this is Morgan.
Starting point is 00:55:23 I think it's the excitement only a free man. Yeah, that's Morgan. Yeah. A free man at the start of a long journey. That was, that was a white, yeah, it's a white guy. He lives in Utah. His name is Andrew. Wow.
Starting point is 00:55:34 And he was the best Morgan Freeman impersonation I could get for, like, under 15 bucks. Really? He's doing that for less than 15 bucks. That was, it was $10. And I gave him a tip. Oh, my God. Okay. So I wrote the script to try, and that's Morgan Freeman, waking you up.
Starting point is 00:55:48 You know what? I like the idea there. I think the execution from the voice over our guy was shocking. Right. But I like what you were going with. Because I still laughing up with him because he lost it. Yeah, well, he was a little bit like bane at one point, I think.
Starting point is 00:56:00 Yes. But it doesn't. It would be extremely painful. Okay, I went with layered instruments and also bird noises to really set the tone. Right. But then... What, for fright? Partway through the alarm as it builds.
Starting point is 00:56:17 It's for a couple that have just recently got together and they are sleeping together, but it's still new, and the idea is I've put something towards the end that would make the guy go... Of course it's for the guy. I'm getting out of bed now. I'm going to hit snooze because otherwise this could be rather embarrassing. I don't know why there are sea girls awake
Starting point is 00:56:55 at 10 o'clock a night? I mean, three in the morning, sorry. Well, you better hit snooze and get out of bed, buddy. You don't want him to sleep through this. But he won't because... I'm almost falling asleep now. But that's why... Trying to wake up.
Starting point is 00:57:26 Stuff? Because if you did it, it's nuts. Because otherwise she's going to think that's you. And the relationship is still fragile so you don't want to sleep past the 40-second mark because otherwise... It's so bad. That's what you came up with?
Starting point is 00:57:40 It's shocking. In 48 hours, you do fart noises. But I'd layered the ocean and the... And you make he laid them. Seagulls ruined. There's a lot going on in there. Guys text through your husband saying Clint wins. Of course he's a lot. Thank you, guys.
Starting point is 00:57:53 God, no one else. Okay, voting is open. That's one for me. Do we need... I think we just move on. I don't think we do a voting process. Are you sure because Brooke just said Dan for the win? Let's do the voting process.
Starting point is 00:58:05 Oh, Andrew the Edge, Texas, 3343, who's alarm, the best, Karen, with Dan, me with Morgan Freeman. And Clint with Farts. Which one are you using to wake you up for the rest of the year? Clint, Megan, Dan. Sorry, we're just reading through your texts and your feedback and opinions on the alarm sounds that we've been putting together over the last. 48 hours, actually, our homework was,
Starting point is 00:58:29 to put together the greatest sound for you to wake up to. This text from Mel sums it up, I was cackling. Dan's was very creative. Clint's was absolutely appalling. Okay, you've just tuned in. Real quick highlight. Dan used Karen, 20-effing weeks. You think you can ignore me and snooze me.
Starting point is 00:58:49 I used Andrew from Utah, who did a voice of Morgan Freeman. Good morning. you're awake you made it to another day and good things are waiting for you You're a white guy to impersonate Morgan Freeman You should be eating just He was the cheapest I could get
Starting point is 00:59:06 He sounds like Morgan Framing him with a bubble in his throat Yes And I went with a beautiful sound to wake up to That you wouldn't leave for too long And you'd hit the snooze early Because otherwise she might think You've done Something you shouldn't have
Starting point is 00:59:19 Early on in a relationship Wait he's the most immature A little pathetic little man That's so stupid. This is at 8 a, you're 40. This is the time zone where we save our best content. And Clint's put a fart. No, four farts.
Starting point is 00:59:45 I was going to say a fart montage. Furns, phones, phones. Who wins, who loses? Brooke, who is the winner for you, for the best alarm to wake up to? Dan is definitely the winner because I need a bit more aggression to wake me up. Finally, someone's saying on the show. Thank you, Brooke, for calling. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:00:03 There we go. Okay, and she says also Clint should be fired. Yep, I agree. I've been saying that for months. Ashley? Morning, Ash. I would play, I'd play Meeks for a Monday, and then I'd go Dan's Tuesday through Thursday,
Starting point is 01:00:17 and then I'd say Clint's on Friday. Okay, so Dan wins that because he gets the most days. Okay, so Clint, yeah. Nice to know she's still giving me a little rotation. Mark, who's alarm are you using if you have to use one? Mark Mark Go away
Starting point is 01:00:35 Sorry, I'm here, I'm here, I'm here Okay Yeah, I had you time Who's who's? Definitely Clint Okay Yeah Mark, you're a piece of work
Starting point is 01:00:46 Kristen said Tell me again Why Clint is the highest paid Out of you Honestly, that's what I was thinking Allegedly I was on Allegedly
Starting point is 01:00:54 All right, right And quickly one more vote Jesse Who are you voting for? A thousand percent Dan, she's a national treasure man. You can't argue with Karen. She is. And can I just say she is the most
Starting point is 01:01:06 lovely, lovely person you'll ever meet. She comes across quite horrible on the media and very aggressive, but she is just like your grandma, she's lovely. Just as well she doesn't live in Auckland because Stacey said I deserve 20 wax. Well, actually, Clint, you'd be surprised with how many votes you've got in the text machine. It's like a draw
Starting point is 01:01:22 between you two. Really? Nobody wants Andrew from Utah. I'm sorry to answer. Andrew. That was it. It's been $13 of a own money on him. He asked if he can listen to the audio. I don't think I'm going to see the business. No, I wouldn't.
Starting point is 01:01:36 Clint. Megan Dan. A new item that is getting a bit of viral attention online. Even sort of six months, they have something that pops up and then it flies off shelves and you hear about it. By the time you do, they're going. I love a Kmart. I love going. I don't think I've ever set foot in a Kmart and not left with something. Agreed. And then you've got to show the receipt to the person and then they just scan it and you walk out
Starting point is 01:01:54 and you're like, what was that for? Why do they do that? Because it happens at Bunnings as well. What's that for? I've always wanted to know if you know text 3343 In Costco they like read through it and check your thing But they don't do that Yeah they just scan their thing They don't look at it They're not going okay I scan six items
Starting point is 01:02:09 But it looks like you're holding seven like seven Yeah Maybe they are supposed to look but they're lazy They fast counters I wonder if we could see if we could work at Kmartin and have like a trolley full of things And get like a second to cut how many items are in there Yeah
Starting point is 01:02:21 Oh that might not be fun radio Anyway Probably not carry on Sometimes you have a good idea Sometimes you don't They're not even writing that one on the one on the whiteboard. Shame on you.
Starting point is 01:02:31 No, these are very expensive. There's been a lot of... Well, not necessarily Kmart, but I think in the past there's been a lot of experimenting with the technology, and we don't own a pair because of how expensive they are, but maybe now we can because ANCO, the Kmart brand,
Starting point is 01:02:49 have created a pair of glasses that film. Kmart and Target shoppers have sounded the alarm over a pair of ANCO camera glasses. Warning that the affordable product could make covert filming easier than ever. Queensland shopper Gracie Johnson told Yahoo Lifestyle that the affordable price could mean the technology becomes far more widespread. We already have cameras absolutely everywhere. At least if someone has a phone pointed at you, you can generally tell you're being filmed. So now we could be being filmed all the time with a pair of ANCO K-Mart glasses.
Starting point is 01:03:23 That's terrible and I'm super disappointed to see that that's happening. It is, I hate the expensive ones let alone making it more, you know, available. Yeah, I think it's a really dangerous thing to get into hiding cameras for that sort of stuff. It's not used for good, I've seen. And people are now throwing shade at Kmart, be like, how could you do this?
Starting point is 01:03:42 And Kmart have come out one of the spokespeople and said this. As with any other device capable of recording images, we expect customers to use the product responsibly, respectfully and in accordance with applicable laws and community expectations around privacy. Yeah, so it's throwing it back on you. Don't be a dick, pretty much, is what we're saying. Oh, well, that's not going to happen.
Starting point is 01:04:03 That's going to be a nightmare. I just hope that it becomes so common that you can know straight away that somebody is wearing them. There should be like a red light that blinks on the top right corner of the glasses. Not as cool looking, are they, though, then? No, not as discreet. No, and you're unable to trap people
Starting point is 01:04:17 and film them without their knowing, which is what you want to do if you're wearing glasses that film. Yeah. I don't, if you're buying those glasses, you're doing something sinister with them, aren't you? But then we look at the flip side of the technology, if we're looking at it or hate it. And you know how people are saying,
Starting point is 01:04:32 live in the moment, don't get your phone out. Like, if you're having a boy's trip or a girl's trip or you're out with the kids on holiday, and you don't want to be getting the film out, sorry, the camera out to film. You just have your glasses on, you're capturing these beautiful moments that you otherwise would have missed.
Starting point is 01:04:46 You think like that, whereas I think like, you know, somebody's trying to the film me and upload it without my knowledge. And, you know, it's... strap a GoPro to your head. You still look cool, man. You can look cool in anything, Clint, obviously, man. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:05:00 I actually think that it'd be as one thing that makes them look losery. Yeah, like, no one pulling that off. Yeah. What do you think? You rate it or hate it? I mean, obviously, you can use it for good or evil. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:11 $89 recording glasses. We've got the answer for the receipts as well. Someone said it's to make sure that the receipt was from today, not an old one, so you haven't gone in with an old receipt, taking the stuff again. That's why they're doing it, why they scan your receipt when they're, leaving a shop.
Starting point is 01:05:26 Kmart has Anko recording glasses for $89. They're the new viral item that the internet is talking about and flying off shells because previous to that, they were like hundreds and hundreds of dollars and they're a bit buggy. I'm not sure how they came up here go, but people can start filming you covertly. Are they stylish?
Starting point is 01:05:46 They look like black plastic rooms that kind of used to be almost like a cool thing to wear back in the 2010. They can cheat a pair of Raybands. Okay. Yeah, but they're clear glasses. So it looks that you wear reading glasses. Yeah, yeah, but Rayband, yeah, but Raybant, yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:01 Yeah, you're right. So if your mate starts looking like he's wearing reading glasses, but hasn't ever before. He's filming you. It's like when Superman's trying to wear glasses to, like... Worst disguise ever. Worst disguise ever. Why do they think that was a good disguise when making Superman, eh? Yeah, clart something?
Starting point is 01:06:16 Clark Kent. Yeah, and Lois Lane had no idea. Yeah, she was an idiot. Maybe she needed the glasses. And she was a journalist. I know. Shocking. Okay, so yeah, do we rate it or hate it?
Starting point is 01:06:26 Because there are obviously some really lovely moments where you could throw on a pair of glasses while you're on holiday with your family and capture moments without having to pull your phone out all the time and arguably live in the moment more. That's the thing that's happening a lot more in the world at the moment now where there is obviously no legislation around releasing these things
Starting point is 01:06:44 because no one's ever thought of it. And now it's been released. It's out being sold and people are recording people without their knowledge. You almost have to work backwards now and write legislation for it and say it is not allowed. It should be illegal to film someone without their knowledge. Now it looks like we've
Starting point is 01:06:59 opened up a bit of a can as well when we're talking about why they scan our receipt when we leave Kmart. Same with Bunnings, they do it as well. And we go, they kind of just scanned it and you walk out and you go, what was that all about? A lot of people weighing in on that. It's to stop you supposedly going back the next day, grabbing all the items
Starting point is 01:07:15 and then just scanning your old receipt. But what happens if you went to the car, emptied the trolley of stuff, and then went straight back into Kmart and did it again. Somebody said it's also to check the average time from checkout to door that you didn't pick up anything on the way or do that. But the problem is sometimes I will pay for a trolley full of things
Starting point is 01:07:33 and then my wife will have found something else. And so I might still be in store for another half an hour before I finally walk out of it. You know, ironically, what they need to do is pay someone to wear the anco glasses and walk around Kmart making sure no one does it. All right, I've got Emma talking about the glasses. What do you think, Emma, cute or creepy? I think they're a bit creepy. It kind of feels like an innovation of privacy.
Starting point is 01:07:53 It does. But then on another way of looking at it, they could also be used as almost like a protective device. Like, for example, if someone was following you, or if a crime happened and you have that evidence on... I see we're saying, say you use public transport at dodgy hours, you could wear them to make yourself feel a little bit safer, knowing that everything's being recorded.
Starting point is 01:08:18 The same reason why? And a tissue that says you're being recorded. Yeah, my glasses are always recording. Yeah. I suppose the same reason why Uber drivers will always have a camera operating for their safety. So now do we all have to start wearing these stupid Anco glasses for our own safety in case something happens. It's not our word versus theirs. It's an interesting argument, isn't it?
Starting point is 01:08:34 I still want them. What? Because you do it. I still want them for all the extreme shit I'm doing. You know, like it would be called with... Extreme shit. What are you doing? Mountain biking?
Starting point is 01:08:44 That's about it. Oh, is that electric bike you've just bought? Yeah, well, I've just brought a mountain bike. But I will say this. Also, it's just, you're right. It is for protection, but also when you don't have your phone on you, or you just want to quickly record something and you have to pull out your phone, you don't have to now.
Starting point is 01:08:59 You just tap your glasses, you're away. So there is convenience to it. Producer Carl? Dan, something that you and I have lamented over several times is when, because you and I have remote control cars, and we like to film ourselves sometimes and send each other videos. But it's so hard to hold the phone and drive the car. It's really hard to play with your knob and film at the same time with the remote control car.
Starting point is 01:09:20 Yeah, do you know what's actually really hard? It's finding anyone that wants to watch any of that footage. Watch you play with your knob. You can text 3343 if you want a video of me and Dan driving out. I've actually got a slow-mo of car doing a jump. I was so cool. Malcolm Todd has a brand new album. Cool, do that again.
Starting point is 01:09:37 Want to hear more of Clint, Meg and Dan, but completely unfiltered. Catch the Overthinkers audio and video pod every single day on the Rover app. All review you get your pots. Overthinkers.
