Starting point is 00:00:00 This is a podcast from Rover. If this podcast was a person, it would be banned from family gatherings. Oh, piss off, Uncle John. This is the Clint Meg and Dan podcast. Happy hump day. Good morning. Do you hear that in the news? They reckon the average New Zealander would only get 68% of questions correct if they reset their learners.
Starting point is 00:00:22 I think that checks out. I don't think I would do very well in the written test. When it comes to all the towing and stuff, I mean, you don't even have a tow bar. You don't need to worry about the towing rules, really. Yeah, I find that unfair. I get tested on that. Yeah. But there might be a day where all of a sudden you rent a trailer
Starting point is 00:00:37 because you're moving house or something. You know, you need to know these things. You know what I never get is the giveaway stuff. I never know who to give way to. Ooh. I know that's quite basic. Like, is it give way to the left? Give way to the right?
Starting point is 00:00:50 I never know. Like, if you're going up, hill, are you giving way to the person going down? You make eye contact with them a little bit. You're like, which one's going to go? I do a lot of light flicking. America doesn't do a lot. lot of things better than us. There is one thing they do, and it's when you're on
Starting point is 00:01:03 a red arrow, and you'd do it like turning left. And if no one's coming, as long as you stop, you're allowed to run a red light on a red arrow turning left. Are you just trying to flex that you've been to America? I think so. How many times have you done that, Clint? Three or four?
Starting point is 00:01:19 It's been nice, eh? Well-traveled. Knows the road rules in other countries. Oh, wait, but I don't know the road rules here. God. That was a hell of a flex. God, that's so Clint. Let me tell you about the road rules in Madagascar. I appreciate you joining us this morning. We did buy a new bed over the weekend because we needed one.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Ours was like a hand-me-down, hand-me-down from many moons ago. So I worked out that I never had a new bed before. I've always had like a hand-me-down one. Anyway, when we're buying the bed, the man was like, you're going to need a mattress. Protector. Oh, yeah. everyone has one in those. And he got all like this thing out.
Starting point is 00:02:01 You know how they have those swatches with all the different things? And he was like, now this one here's your basic. It soaks up very little liquid. And I remember being like, I remember thinking like, we'll take that one because it's never,
Starting point is 00:02:14 we've never gone. Oh God, I wish we'd have a more soaking mattress protector. Yeah. And he went up to this one that was like, genuinely like $300. He's like, you could literally spill anything on this.
Starting point is 00:02:26 Any type of liquid could go on it. You can piss yourself. Your wife wouldn't even know. Either are your bedwet? He's like, either are you a bedwet? And he was like, this is the top of the range soaking stuff. Like, Nassie uses this to soak up their bedwetters. You know, like, that was that good.
Starting point is 00:02:41 I think it's meant to be the amount of, like, sweat that you... Yeah, and also, I guess, like, daddy, your kid might be coming into bed with you. At one point, they wet the bed. We've got a no-kid policy in our bed. Really? We only make kids in it. That's about it. I produce a girl.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Oh, hold on, where are you? There you go. What was the brand of the super absorbent? Why, I'm just writing this down. My brother... It's to the Super Soka. Super So, okay, super so. My brother used to have a round beard, and it had a motor on it, and you could actually...
Starting point is 00:03:13 I'm sorry. Was this in his porn career? What? Did your parents buy it? He bought it off somebody, and that's why I said to him, I was like, bro, anyone who's got a rotating circular beard is doing some crook stuff on there, bro. And he was like, bro, it's an incredible bed to, like, layout. It was something like 15 grand, and he got it for like two or three. Did the sheet just look like a big shower cap?
Starting point is 00:03:36 Like, what are you mean? The things that bed must have seen before he got it. My goodness, me. You just rotate it slowly. You didn't get sick or anything, you know? Yeah, yeah. Carly seen any circular beds in anything you've lost recently. I bet that wasn't a silly posture peter.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Clint Megandandan. Vicki texts this morning saying, morning Clint Megandandan. Can't wait. to listen to the show in full today. That is the suggested way that you should listen to our show. Do you think so?
Starting point is 00:04:04 Not just little bits and pieces? The preferred method, six to ten. And like just sitting... I think sitting in a rocking chair next to a radio. I just sit there listening. That's the best way. That's what Biggie's doing right now.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Yeah, he has got a little tease for us. Although I don't think we'll get the full song until 8 o'clock this morning. Yeah. So it's postcode playlist. We've done this many times before. We put together a... In fact, I do it.
Starting point is 00:04:28 You guys do very little. Do you want me to play the intro? Yeah, go on there. Postcode playlist. From the Tampa Cape Rianger down to the dirty deep south of bluff. No town is safe. This is your postcode playlist. Yeah, a little bit of an anthem for different places around New Zealand this week,
Starting point is 00:04:44 Gisbon, because it has been announced that R&V is back for its final year at Wiah State down in Gizzy. Yeah. And so, yeah, we've put together a song. It's an EDM-based track. And I tell you what, it is. I reckon it does Gizzy Proud. There's a couple of lines in there that people have suggested of some dark underbelly stuff from Gisbon,
Starting point is 00:05:05 but no town is without its issues. And so Dan gets the lyrics from you and then all the rest to do is really just put a melody to them ready. And make them rhyme. Yeah, yeah, that's true. That's essentially what I do. And put them to a song. And this week, yeah, it's a banger.
Starting point is 00:05:20 There's a bit of a drop in there. Okay. Yeah. I'm just looking for the little... There is the little teaser, okay, because I don't want to play too much. No, so we'll play the full thing after eight. East coast of the North Island is there, Gisburn.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Vineyards make all the shardinay in Gisburn. Heavy rain with poo and Gisburn. Apparently it's an issue. New Year's at Gisburn. Burn, burn, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun. So I don't know if Shannon's going to be stoked Because I remember he was saying it's Gisborne Yes
Starting point is 00:06:18 Now we have changed a little bit of it But I've kept it as Gisbon Mostly because that's what people say Yeah I don't know anyone call it Gisborne But then again I'm not from there And we watch news clips
Starting point is 00:06:29 We watch like Samantha Hayes in the news Saying Gisbon She just says Gisbon Really? Yeah Did you even do some research? Yeah I did I look I looked into it
Starting point is 00:06:36 How long did you look Oh about 20 seconds Right Yeah yeah right If Samantha says it, it's correct. Yeah, I've always said if it's okay with Samantha Hayes, it's okay with me. Is she still doing news? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:47 She does it on the three news, yeah. Oh, my God. The stuff-based one. I didn't know that either. I thought she'd retired early. Imagine how good that would be. Retire at like 40. Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:06:58 It's all going to dame Sophie Pascoe recently, weren't we, who is retired from being an Olympian. But she still does other stuff. But she's, yeah, like, essentially retired from her main job. Then you just want, do you're a guest speaker. and like awards and stuff. Yeah. God, that's the way to go, eh.
Starting point is 00:07:14 You'll be close to that, Clint. I mean, you're not that young, but I mean, you'd be close to retirement age soon. Yeah, that's exciting for you, Clint. Don't you get the pension? Yeah, 65. So only another 35 years away? Oh, piss off.
Starting point is 00:07:29 Clint, Megan Dan. Ariana Grande spoke to the audience of the, after the latest controversy surrounding her and how her P.R. announced she is taking a break after the tour. that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing. It is something that I had decided. It's a plan that I had quietly made a long time ago.
Starting point is 00:07:51 And it's a decision that was made from a thoughtful and empowered place. Yeah, so not, well, confirming that it isn't a reactive way to how she looks and how everybody's been commenting on it and worried about her. She said that this was always going to happen. And Scott Eastwood had spoken up about how him and Shia LaBuff got into a heated fight on the set of Fury where Brad Pitt had to break it up. I've talked about it. Brad Pitt sort of broke up a little, a tense moment that. Oh, I didn't know. Well, he was, you know, he's a very method.
Starting point is 00:08:25 Yeah. From what I recall, he pulled out of one of his teeth before we even started shooting. What is actual tooth? Yeah, Shire. Oh, God. Because he's method. Nothing's that important, right, to remove your tooth? Oh, never.
Starting point is 00:08:39 No, not for Clint. Not for Clint. No way. Come on, Clint, do something for the show, would you? You know Clint's teeth are so white. We've spoken about this before. The place he went to to get them white and said they didn't have a whiter, like, shade. They capped one of them that I chipped, and I was like, it's a bit yellow.
Starting point is 00:08:59 I actually went back and was like, I don't think you've color matched it. And I got a different dentist. And he goes, oh, yeah, that's actually the whitest we do. I was like, that's BS. He's like, you're going to have to go to Turkey if you want wider. Have you gotten it? I can't see it. Have you gone, it's still there, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:09:13 Yeah, there it is. It's definitely more yellow. I like to put you out. How is that the widest shape? I need a new dentist. Yeah, you need nothing new dentist. My dentist is where Ed Shearing goes when he's in New Zealand. I reckon he's just got an AI photo of Ed Sheereran.
Starting point is 00:09:26 Yeah. I also think he's sabotaging you on purpose. You get me to keep coming back. How can we make him uglier? Yeah. Just fit by bit. Clint, Megan Dan. Oh, oh my gosh.
Starting point is 00:09:37 First call of the day! First call of the day! We've got Summer and Daisy. Oh, lovely. What lovely names together. Morning Summer and Daisy. Morning. So you're calling together.
Starting point is 00:09:49 What are you doing up so early together this morning? Oh, I just wanted to start work early today. Oh, okay. So what do you do for a job? You're both marketing associates? Yeah, that's the Media Lab. Oh, yeah, cool, cool. I'm just...
Starting point is 00:10:05 Wellington. I'm just been reading on. I watched your video where you hounded your boss to try and get a certain number of likes to be able to go to RMV. For anyone hasn't said, I literally saw this video just scrolling online. Easy. Because like, yeah, done. I think when I looked at the time, girls, it was just over 5,000. So you've got the tickets.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Is he actually going to go through with it? Or is he like, oh, I was just joking around. Well, he is still Yutti Randers, but... What you could tell him 5,000 likes, I think It's so doable, you know, these days Yeah, and you know what you could tell them to listen on Friday Because every caller wins, R&V tickets
Starting point is 00:11:00 He could get them free Yeah, like if you get on here Friday And you guys win tickets, I guess then you can sell the ones you've already got This is true Yeah, true, you can't be worth enough Or just keep them, I would keep them Because then you risk not getting them at all Because it sells out, right? So yeah
Starting point is 00:11:16 What are you girls marketing today? What's on the agenda? Quite a few clients. We do quite a... Yeah, it's an agency, so we have just a range of different clients. Who's your favourite if you had to pick a favorite client? Oh, I feel like that's hard to choose. They're all pretty amazing.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Ah, good answer. Good answer. Good, good. But let's be honest. Let's be honest, there's some punishing ones, though, eh? We don't need to name them. But we all know. How often do you, like, read the email from them?
Starting point is 00:11:48 me, you're like, oh my God. And then you go back, hey, that's totally cool. All good. Yeah, we can accommodate that. Yeah. No comment. Definitely, yes. All right, well, hopefully you guys get on here on Friday.
Starting point is 00:12:03 We'll look out for your name. It'd be easy to spot Summer and Daisy. If you get on here between 6am and 10 a.m. Friday, we'll sort you out with free R&V tickets. Hi, thank you. Good on, you guys. How they cute. I wonder what Al Boss would give us for 5,000 likes. Honestly, I think we'd just keep our jobs.
Starting point is 00:12:21 I don't think we'd get any more than that. Maybe if we've got five million likes on something. Even then, they'll be like, okay, now you've raised the bar. Now we want 20 million. Yeah, and going. All right, Nautil 640 is up next. Dan is going to be bringing something to the table. It's the return of something that I think we all had growing up,
Starting point is 00:12:43 especially if you're a millennial, that you'll be able to relate to. But it hasn't been a thing for the last. Oh, 10 years probably. And there's a reason it's coming back and it's to do with technology in the house. Okay. 21-7thage.
Starting point is 00:12:56 Clint, Megan Dan. It's time to get naughty at 640. Now this is on face value, not very naughty at all. But when we dig deeper, it will be. The family computer, it's a thing that I would say probably died out around 2010. But I think between the years of like the early 2000s, like 2001, through to 2010,
Starting point is 00:13:18 every household in New Zealand, or most anyway, would have had a family computer. And they would have only had the one. I think that's the difference. Some people might still have one, but then they also have their own personal laptops. But back then it was just everybody, dads, moms, yours. And the personal computer, the laptop, like you say Meg, was the death of the family computer because everybody had their own device. They went off into their own rooms, surfing the internet, doing what they do.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Now, they are saying that because people are, you know, so fatigued with being online now. that they are going back to just having one device. It's becoming more common to have just a family PC or a family laptop at home that is used between three or four people to pay bills to surf the internet to do all that kind of thing. And it's bringing back that risk
Starting point is 00:14:03 that was there many years ago of the family computer. Go on, Dan, what's that risk? I remember. I remember when I was young. And I was in that age, you know, I was at high school, late years of high school,
Starting point is 00:14:16 where we had a family computer. And the stuff I searched on that thing. You know. When Dad didn't realize you could just type in boobies and it would show them to you? You know, and you laugh Clint, but I genuinely think I would have. And it's to the point where I don't think I remember going incognito mode. I don't even think we knew what that was. I don't even think it was a thing back then because it was in the infancy of the internet, right?
Starting point is 00:14:40 My mum and dad weren't searching anything naughty. They couldn't even turn. I remember one time they woke me up. It was like midnight or one in the morning on a school night. And I was like, what the hell is going on? They walked me upstairs and they go, we can't work out how to turn it off. And I was so furious.
Starting point is 00:14:54 I just grabbed the power cable, plugged me to the wall, just ripped it out. And I was like, that'll do it. And then I just went to be it. Why were they looking at the internet? We went back to your mezzanine level four. At one in the morning.
Starting point is 00:15:04 My dad couldn't even work out and turn it off, so I don't think they knew how to even search movies. Yeah, before it called Nino mode, let me tell you kids, that we had to, you'd search what you search. And then directly afterwards, you'd have to remember delete cookies. Delete history
Starting point is 00:15:18 Like delete history Clear browsing history of the last hour And if you didn't do that You were stuff That's my problem when I was a kid I was deleting cookies all the bloody time The naughty thing I think I did On the family computer
Starting point is 00:15:30 Is just remember that website Hot or Not dot com Yeah I used to go on that all the time I put myself on it Yeah yeah you could And then you'd come back and see what your average rating Was and just their whole internet Just people around the world Or it'll rate you out of 10
Starting point is 00:15:41 And you could rate others out of 10 Oh 800 at the edge Strange text through 33443 this is probably one for the millennials or the older end of the Gen Zs what did you find on the family computer because I remember like I'm pretty sure I'd found stuff from my brother
Starting point is 00:15:58 Oh yeah of course it was your bro Nice easy player yeah I go mom he's done something again on the computer That computer had so many viruses that poor thing I remember the Trojan horse The Trojan horse Yeah so maybe it was not something sexual Maybe it was like documents that you were in adopted or something like that, you know, like there was something on the family
Starting point is 00:16:19 computer you found that you weren't supposed to see. What was it? Oh, 800 the Edge. We want to know what did you find on the family computer. It's making a bit of a comeback. Yeah, apparently because people are fatigued with having their own device and being always on the internet, they're going back to one device at home where everybody uses the same device.
Starting point is 00:16:37 You've got to be careful, though, because, you know, sometimes we saw some things, found some things on the family computer that we weren't supposed to find, or see? Yeah, let's go to Melissa on 0800 the Edge. Melissa, you did this at school, so it wasn't this family computer, but it was a computer at school. Well, I'm that old school that my parents never had a computer, so we didn't even have the leisure of having a dial-up computer, and to the day they still don't have a computer in the house. So I would only get the searching going in the IT class at college.
Starting point is 00:17:06 Yeah. And what did you find? Well, the website that was disgusting, I don't even know if it's still there, is rotten.com. Oh, yeah, that was. I remember that. I just did a quick Google on it and nothing was coming up, Melissa. You know what?
Starting point is 00:17:20 Melissa, I think that was the first time I ever saw two girls one cup on there. I still never seen it. Oh my God, I only saw it within the last three months my friend Zoe showed me and I honestly I nearly cried that later that night. I was so upset that I'd seen it. It's traumatising.
Starting point is 00:17:35 It is traumatising. I think I only looked at it once and then I would never dare to look at it again. No, no, and don't. It's so gross. Yeah, it's so gross. Go on rotten.com and search up blue waffle. No. You're welcome.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Text clips come in. My dad works in IT, so it didn't matter what I deleted as a 15-year-old. He knew where the search history could be found. What? Like show deleted history? Hold on a second. I didn't know that was a thing. So you can delete it going in incognito mode and someone can still find it.
Starting point is 00:18:03 It didn't matter what I deleted as a 15-year-old. He knew where the search history could be found and it led to countless awkward conversation. Hey, hey, hey. Hey. Hold a second. What about the IT? can find your deleted history. Have you got that text, Dan,
Starting point is 00:18:20 they found out a strange group that their mum belonged to on Facebook? So a daughter went on to her mum's computer. This is really rude. And she had apparently, the mum had gone on Facebook and joined a group called. And I quote,
Starting point is 00:18:35 anything is a dildo if you're brave enough. I think it was a part of that. Meg is actually, she belongs to some of the most crook face. put groups out there and he does. Of course you'd be a member. What have I got? What have I got?
Starting point is 00:18:50 I'd love to see the sign up questions. You know those security questions you have to go before they accept you into the group. Some of my groups. I'm in flat earth, no trolls. Of course you are. But I am a troll in that, by the way. Don't find me.
Starting point is 00:19:04 I don't know. I'm not too bad these days. A lot of relishes, relish recipe sharing groups. How many recipes could be? On the rag, 24-7 among that group. Lost and Found Pets, that's an easy one. What else am I?
Starting point is 00:19:19 Do you follow them and then you never unfollow them? Yeah, I just kind of stay in there. And then every now and then I'll go and pop it and see what they're up to. Maybe there's some legs in this because people are texting through what groups there on. Someone said, Rake My Poo. Oh, God. I'm not in that one. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Right now, though, it's time for you to win a thousand bucks. If you can give us 10 answers, starting with the letter N inside 30 seconds, no repeated answers. But you can pass. And if we've got time, we'll come back. The thousand bucks is yours, Mel. Good morning. Morning, Melanie. From the Bay of Plenty, you'd spend $1,000 and go shopping for yourself.
Starting point is 00:19:55 Good on you. Shopping for what, exactly, ma'am? Clothes, I'm desperate for some new clothes. Great. Okay, new wardrobe. Let's get you some new clothes, Melanie. Okay, it's a nice, easy list, Meg. Yeah, I think it's actually pretty good for you, Mel.
Starting point is 00:20:11 Let's go. I think the key mail is if nothing comes to mine, pass. Yeah, pass as quickly as you can And then we'll go back to it. Don't waste time on one question. Okay, here we go. All right, I'll try. Mel, give me a body part.
Starting point is 00:20:24 No. An occupation. Nurse. A fruit. Nashy care? A brand. Nike? A New Zealand city or town?
Starting point is 00:20:36 Napier. Something you can wear? Um, a nurse's output. A fast food. restaurant. Oh. Pass. A male celebrity.
Starting point is 00:20:52 Novak Djokovic. A word ending an L. Time. It was Christian 9. Goodness, Mal, that was such a good start. My head was screaming Nandoz at you. Nandoz! Nandoz!
Starting point is 00:21:05 Nandoz! I was screaming it. The only one I could think I was noodle canteen. Yeah. That's another one. Oh my gosh, Mal, you were really good at that. Well done. You were flying for the first six
Starting point is 00:21:16 and then as soon as you get stumped with 1A so it can throw you. I will say this, that is the pace you need to get them. Like, if it wasn't for that little one that stumped you in the middle, you would have been home and hosed, I reckon. Sorry, but. Thank you for the opportunity. Thanks, Mal.
Starting point is 00:21:31 One of the better ones we've had so far. Yeah, when did your start heart start to go race? Because mine starts going to about five or six. Yeah. And I'm like, okay, now we're on. Six in a row. I'm like, let's go. And I'm looking at the time ago.
Starting point is 00:21:41 They can make this. The Clint Meg and Dan podcast. Petty Gower has issues. There's an episode on peptides that went up. last night, 7.30 on 3, so you can catch up three now. Very interesting discussion about these wonder drugs, inverted commas, that
Starting point is 00:21:56 aren't yet illegal, aren't tested all that much, and that you can just order from overseas. Yeah, and it is one of those things that the whole world is experiencing this at the same time. It's not like, you know, sometimes New Zealand's a little bit behind. I feel, and we're like, oh, the USA have been using these for years,
Starting point is 00:22:12 but it's happening all around. I saw an influencer I followed the other day, talking about it very openly that she was on. Alcohol. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, like that she was having peptides. And I've just seen this text come in saying, interestingly, sorry, interestingly, I've just been over to the USA to watch the CrossFit games. And there was a vendor there sending NorCal peptides who was selling them straight to the public. Wow.
Starting point is 00:22:33 They sell them as a bile, as a powder, and you have to mix them before injecting, and that's how they get around the fact that it's not medicine. That's scary, eh? You even have to do the mixing yourself, like putting a powder into some water and doing it, then injecting it is a lot of medical stuff. And Paddy Gow was saying to us that he ordered two different types, and then he went and got them tested, and then one of them came back saying that's not actually what you've ordered. It came back as unknown substance. Unknown substance, which is...
Starting point is 00:22:59 Just because they're saying this orders doesn't necessarily mean it is. Well, we did speak to Patty about the different types and how easy they are to get in New Zealand. I imported these myself from China within five days. Wow. This is Retta, which a lot of people will start to hear about, Rita Trutide. It's a weight-lost peptide. but there's a tanning peptide, there's an injury recovery peptide. Inflammation one.
Starting point is 00:23:21 Yeah, Wolverine is the one that regenerates your body, you know, like the character. What? God. Injecting someone called Wolverine into your body doesn't sound good, does it? There's a glow-up peptide, you know, that gives you that look of a glow-up. There's one for your hair strength. There's all sorts of peptides out there now. Yeah, the crazy thing for me was when he started discussing how the tanning one works. How does your body just start getting browner because you've taken a peptide?
Starting point is 00:23:48 And supposedly this is how. How they work is they send a message from your brain. So, you know, the weight loss ones say, oh, you're not hungry. You don't need to eat. You know, that suppresses your hunger mechanism. The tanning one sends a message saying, you are tanning. Start tanning. You know, even though you're not in the sun.
Starting point is 00:24:05 So they work in the same way. They send messages to the body and the brain of what's happening. Wow. How does it do that? And also, how long do you stay brown for? Clint, don't go on peptides for tan. Yeah, that one's the one. I don't know why, but that scares me the most
Starting point is 00:24:21 because you're missing with your melanin. And I just know that melanoma is so scary. But there's stuff for like healing as well, for people that have got chronic illness. There's that sort of stuff. So there is pros to it, but then I don't think we've yet discovered what the negatives are,
Starting point is 00:24:36 because there's always drawbacks with any type of drug, isn't it? Because there's long-term effects on anything, but the problem is people haven't been taking them long enough for them to know. And that is why arguably these things are, you know, inverted commas, again, illegal because it's such an unregulated thing. And so, Patty, talked to us about the clinical trials that they've been going through at the moment. They haven't been through their clinical trials.
Starting point is 00:24:56 They're unapproved medicine. So, we're going to all that. You know, they test them on the animals, then they test them on the humans, and they're testing on the humans, then they're like, yeah, this is good to go. We know what the side effects are. We know everything. And you can go through a doctor. This is skipping that process.
Starting point is 00:25:10 This hasn't been through that full testing kind of process. but it's now effectively doing that on the global stage. Wow. So we're at the very infancy of this it sounds, doesn't it? Yeah, and then they're just giving them cool names, like Wolverine and stuff.
Starting point is 00:25:26 So you're like, I want to be an ex-man. It is so easily convinced. Yeah, he is. He's like a kid. I just want to understand how you can take a little powder and it's like it tells your brain to just start growing more muscle
Starting point is 00:25:36 and your brain and your body goes, okay. Why don't you try it for us and do an experiment? I mean, everyone loves a cheat code and loves to like skip the hard work, right? You just wonder what the consequences are for it. Yeah, I guess it's, and it depends on what you're wanting to do. If it's for, like, I want to be more tan versus I just want to be able to live without pain. I think there's very different scales.
Starting point is 00:25:56 Yeah, and what risk are you willing to take on, you know, and if you're in chronic pain, then maybe you're willing to take on more risk than someone who just wants to be a little browner. Yes, yeah. Yeah, if you do want to catch the full episode, Petty Guy has issues. It's up now three now. Clint, Megan Dan. The Pye Awards were on last.
Starting point is 00:26:14 night. I went because you guys raved about how incredible it is. I've never been but yeah, everyone else always talks about it. So then I was like, okay, so I went and then none of you guys did. It's the best night ever. The award ceremony has got it must have one hell of a budget. Yeah, they had like an Elvis impersonator
Starting point is 00:26:30 because it was Vegas theme. Maybe not that much of a budget. Yeah, Jeremy Corbett was the MC. He's always great. And then they had a whole bunch of performers and dancers. And the theme that I realized is that somebody from what I can gather must have thanked their wife
Starting point is 00:26:45 quite a few times in previous awards, right? So now the running joke is that everyone that wins thanks their wife. And I got a little montage of the audience going crazy every time one of the winners did. Thank you, my wife? Yeah!
Starting point is 00:26:59 That's mostly clumped. Thank you, my wife. You're my beautiful wife? Okay, that's just you and Nipia. But it was like someone to do a speech And then they go to walk off And then the room would go And then they go back to the lectern and go
Starting point is 00:27:21 And thank you my wife I've been multiple years before And it is They do go up with their wives quite often Don't they? It's really cute Because obviously it's a family business A lot of these bakeries
Starting point is 00:27:31 And the wife and the husband Do a lot of the baking And one of the wives did The full speech And at the end she goes And thank you to my husband And it goes crazy I was about to ask that because Sophia Tang,
Starting point is 00:27:42 she was one that one vegetarian pie that was in Onahanga and Penny Lane's bakery. Do you want me to go through some of them before we talk to the lead? Because maybe this pie is in your neighbourhood. Yeah, okay. Where's the greatest steak and cheese pie? Where do I find it? Steak and cheese at Songheng, Saw and Silverdale in Hamilton,
Starting point is 00:28:00 the high bakery and cafe. Best potato top just down the road from me, taste bakery and roast and Henderson. Mints and cheese. A lot of people like the mince and cheese. Eurobake espresso and Kumyu, if you want to go there today. Minson Gravy is the Richo
Starting point is 00:28:13 Pastri in Ellesley and I think the biggest winner, the big dog who won the award out of all the pies. Yeah, the Supreme Pie Award. Supreme Pie and also best for bacon and egg. It's Sean from Levine Artisian Bakery and Blockhouse
Starting point is 00:28:30 Bay. Morning Sean. Ganyed Sean. Congratulations. Good morning guys. I'm so happy to be on your radio show this morning. It's good to have. You won three awards. You won two of the best pies, and then your bacon and egg won the overall best pie. What was the other one that you won? We won the steak and gravy.
Starting point is 00:28:49 Steaking gravy and bacon and egg. What does this mean for you, Sean? Because it must be a great thing for a bakery. Do you put the sign outside saying you've won the big award? We have got no sign today. We're a bit unprepared. Last night I knew I was going to win something, but it was a shock last night. Wow, so how much sleep did you get?
Starting point is 00:29:12 Did you celebrate into the early hours of the morning? I didn't get home until about chill this morning and started work at five. Oh, my goodness, man. Because you know there's going to be a lot of people wanting to try those specific pies, you know? Will you have lines out the door all morning? Yeah, there's quite a bit of a line already now. Oh, really? For people hearing that you've won instead of like, I'm going and get the best pie in New Zealand.
Starting point is 00:29:36 Bacon and egg. Yeah. Do you have anybody to thank? Oh, thank my wife. Yes. So great, Sean. Congratulations. To be able to craft the perfect pie, the best pie in New Zealand.
Starting point is 00:29:55 Yeah, it's epic. Yeah, it's such a... Oh, one last thing as well. We've discussed this quite a bit on our show. How old is the award where it's too old to still display it on the shop window? When you start scraping it off? Like... What do you look at your competition?
Starting point is 00:30:10 and go, okay, guys, that was 2007. Yeah, it's time to scrape it off the window. How far back do you think you're allowed to go and still, you know, shout it from the rooftops? I'm not sure. We've only entered the last three years, and last year we won the gold for the bank next for my dad's recipe. And this year we did the repeat again.
Starting point is 00:30:31 Okay, so you can just renew the thing now. No, I think you can go Best Pie 25 and 26. And, yeah, it's not actually too far from where I'm at. So I look forward to swinging by and giving it a go, Sean, I'm going to come and see you this afternoon after the show. I'm going to go all the way out to Blockhouse Bay. I'm going to go. I'll drive for the best pie in New Zealand. Mawain Bakery and Blockhouse Bay, Auckland is where you'll find it. Oh, thank you guys. I appreciate the phone call and I appreciate everybody that's put us.
Starting point is 00:30:58 Yeah, you're amazing. But who do you appreciate the most? I think that's where you say, Moa. Doesn't matter. Oh, I really needed to finish on my life. Short, who do you appreciate the most? My wife. Yay!
Starting point is 00:31:20 Clint, Megan Dan. With just watching videos from around the country of people just living it up and skiing in their backyard effectively. Just Dunedinian students, just skiing down the street, being towed by their mates car, surfing on whatever they can find. That's fun, isn't it? Snow's fun. I love snow. Yeah, I don't think, I mean, obviously you get it more down south, but we don't get it too often to the point that it's still exciting every time it happens. unless you're somebody that it's definitely not exciting and it's just hectic. Well, is it coming? Phil Duncan will know from weatherwatch.com.
Starting point is 00:31:53 com. And Z, mate, this is like Christmas for you, Phil. Yeah, it's kind of exciting to be seeing the snow again. It's been years since we've had it. So, yeah, it's recently cold at the moment. Is this what they call a cold snap? Because it's affecting a lot of the country, right? Yeah, definitely.
Starting point is 00:32:10 In fact, the polar boundary, which is an area that measures sort of how far north the coldest of the air that normally sits around Antarctica and over the southern ocean. It measures how far north that goes. And at the moment, it is north of New Zealand. And it's going to be going right up to Australia's Norfolk Island and halfway to Tonga. So, like, they'll be feeling it up in the tropical islands. They'll notice the humidity dropping and the temperature going down a wee bit because of what's happening here. Wow.
Starting point is 00:32:39 Oh, it'd suck if you're like, don't worry about the cold snap. I'm going to Tonga. Yeah. I mean, there's been snow on the beaches as well. I saw some footage of snow on a beach somewhere. I think it was, was it Dunedin or Christchurch somewhere? I think it was Sumner. And like, that must be rare to have snow on a beach.
Starting point is 00:32:57 Yeah, it's got to be very cold in New Zealand because the sea temperatures around the country, relative to the air above it, is much warmer. And so it can be hard to get snow down to sea level when the sea temperature itself is, you know, 12, 15 degrees, and you've got like the cold air above it that's only a couple of degrees and it can melt and not actually get right down to the ground. So in this case, yeah, it was, it was especially cold.
Starting point is 00:33:25 And there's kind of a thing that you look for. It's quite a simple recipe when you look at the weather maps. You have to have a high-pressure zone that's west of New Zealand. Big area of high pressure, and it's got to be shaped kind of like a rugby ball that's about to be kicked. and when it's got that shape, coupled with a low pressure zone off the South Island's east coast, that drags up this big, big southerly, and it's sort of the high in this case is south of New Zealand. So it is scooping up air from down near Antarctica and driving it right into New Zealand,
Starting point is 00:33:55 and as I said, north of us as well. Okay, so Phil, then, I guess for people who are freezing going, how much longer is this going to last? Is it going to start getting warmer across the country, or are we going to be in this for a little bit longer? Yeah, well, now what happens is once with the big high, that produced this weather is now going to move over us. And what it does is kind of locks in the cold. And so at the moment, we've got wind and cloud and still some showers in some parts of the country,
Starting point is 00:34:20 especially on the east coast of New Zealand. But as the high rolls in today and tonight, those winds ease, the clouds break up more, and it gets colder. So even at the moment, I'm seeing temperatures right across the South Island. There are a lot of places that are minus seven, minus eight, that are inland today and that's pretty cold and we're seeing below zero temperatures
Starting point is 00:34:43 going up to even parts of Auckland and Northland to a couple of places are below zero so if you factor that that's going to get colder tonight we're going to be seeing lower temperatures in a number of maybe North Island places overnight tonight and going into tomorrow and still very cold in the South Island as well
Starting point is 00:34:59 So this is like a week thing until the end of the week do we think or is it like the next couple of days wrap up warm and then it should kind of go away? Yeah about the end of week. And the weird thing is by the end of the week, the high pressure zone will be actually north of New Zealand and it'll cause an opposite effect. It'll then drag down subtropical air as we go into the weekend to some places. So yeah, it could warm up. It depends on where you are in the country. But yeah, some places could warm up quite a bit this weekend. And then we might have some rain clouds coming in to sort of make it not get too exciting.
Starting point is 00:35:28 God. Okay, God. I wish I'd love anything as much as you love the weather. Yeah, Weatherwatch.com.com.com.z. If you do want to know more, thank you, Phil. Appreciate you giving us the update, mate. He's Fizzine. My pleasure, thank you. Yeah. I'd love to know how the students of Dunedin are going,
Starting point is 00:35:43 because the last time I was there and walked through a couple of Dunedin flats, their windows are like 50-50 intact. Like, there's no heating and windows just whipping through. And now with snow in the streets, I'm like, you guys must be sleeping in your hoodies and beanie. I think it's what they say, officially, it's colder than a witch's tit down to Naden. Yeah. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:04 Damn. That must be so cool. bad is it? Maybe let us know rather than going, oh, it's minus five or it's minus seven. It's hard to comprehend. It's so cold that. You've started doing what? Well, you've had to start doing what. Let us know because, mate, it's wild some of these videos that we're seeing around New Zealand how cold it is in different parts. Pray for Dunedin. Pray for Dunedin. We were thinking about the students in Dunedin because we've visited there multiple times as a team and I don't think they think much about double glazing.
Starting point is 00:36:32 No, half of them have like half of the windows are smashed and just don't ever get replaced. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. It's definitely not a warm sort of feeling. We actually managed to have somebody, I think. Are you there, Sophie? Yeah, hi.
Starting point is 00:36:46 How cold are you, babe? And you're in a Denny Eden flat, are you? I am, yes, I am. What's the name of the fan out of interest? They all have names? Yeah, they do. Well, I am not in a named one, but my mates are in a name one. It's just called PeeP.
Starting point is 00:37:02 It's a pretty boring name, but I know there are some crazier names in Castlestreet. Are you wrapped up in a duvet right now? It does sound a little muffled, but... I'm not actually, no. I'm just sitting on the couch in shorts, actually. Oh, wow. So you must have a heater. You must be in one of these double glazed flats.
Starting point is 00:37:19 Oh, you've got a fancy one. Yeah. No, I'm not, actually. I think we just all used to the cold. Like, it doesn't even bother us anymore. Is the snow still sticking around? Because obviously, it was very snowy there in Dunedin yesterday. What's it looked like today?
Starting point is 00:37:34 No snow today. I think it's minus one degree right now too. You're just sitting in shorts. Have you got a puffer on though? I haven't, no. They're built differently down there, Megan. You and I wouldn't cope. Last of my, I was in a Dunedin flat.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Everyone had their own dog bowl that they ate out of, and any sink was a urinal. Is that your flat or are you a bit more debonair? No, I wouldn't say we do that, but I know I just do some flat in that situation. It actually did make me feel quite healthy. The girl flat, were the nicer ones.
Starting point is 00:38:06 It was the ones with like seven dudes living in them that were feral. Somebody said that they are making mold wine in Dunedin, which consists of putting red wine in a mug and putting in the microwave for 30 to 45 seconds. Oh, that's not quite how you make it. No, there's not a recipe that's been handed down. That's just a hot wine. That's just hot wine.
Starting point is 00:38:24 All right, Gabby, you're in Dunners as well. You're making the most of the snow? I'm up on the hill, so it's been nuts. Oh, my God, why are you up on the head? So much snow. Well, that's where the house is. Oh, right. I thought you just walked up one of the streets.
Starting point is 00:38:37 No, no, we just live up here. And so there's like people with skis out. People are just getting like, honestly, it looks like a tarp. And yesterday they were just going down the street, pulling each other. So people are having fun. But I like being inside. Yeah. What are you wearing currently, Gabby, out of interest?
Starting point is 00:38:56 Because the last person we spoke to. Let me ask that. Okay. Gabby, what are you wearing today? Well, thank you, Meg. Oh, my gosh. I'm in a dressing gown. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:07 I've got underneath that. Joking, I'm joking. Yeah, sorry about that. You're getting a time out for 15 minutes. You can't even make an joke. He's a student. I know, but I'm joking. And Clint, you'll play the music, so you'll join in.
Starting point is 00:39:21 You already. I'm the only one that's ready to talk to you about the cold. I'm gladded. Yeah, so you're in a dressing gown and then just rugged up by that. Do you have to leave the house today, or can you stay in? I'm not leaving. You can name me. Good on you, Gabby.
Starting point is 00:39:34 If I was in a dressing gown, I'd have about seven layers underneath. Hey, you're still in time now, Daniel, where me? Get out of here. Asa you turn this music off. I'm sorry, sorry. All right, everybody stay warm and co-sect. Sorry, that's not better. Jesus, Clint.
Starting point is 00:39:48 I was just, it was an innocent question. I wanted to know how many layers of PJs. You've gone the sexual angle. Pisses me off in a way. Clint, Meg and Dan. You know the movie Inside Out? Yeah. And things happen to the character, the little girl.
Starting point is 00:40:03 and core memories are created, right? They're like rolling. I always think it's really interesting what your brain decides it's going to always remember and never forget. It's fascinating. It's things that you think about late at night
Starting point is 00:40:15 and you can't go to sleep and you're like, why have I still got that 25 years later? Usually it's embarrassing shit that you've done. Yeah, it's embarrassing or it's something mean. Somebody forms you. And recently Clint got one. He got a core memory from a listener, a listener of our show who sent us a message.
Starting point is 00:40:29 Actually, Clint, do you remember it because you said you wouldn't forget? Yeah, there was. was long, but there was one part that said he thought I was the most replaceable on the show. And then went on to explain why maybe that's not the case. And then at the end he said, Clint is, and I've never forgotten this,
Starting point is 00:40:44 Quietly Elite, which I really liked at the time. But now I think about it, I'd like to be loudly elite. Yeah. Yeah, Bradley Elite means people don't know it. And people forget all the time. And I think I'm a quiet one as well if anybody were to say I was elite anything. No, you're just quiet.
Starting point is 00:41:01 Okay. I don't even think I'm that. If people forget And then they have to remember You have to remind them They're like Oh they are kind of good at that thing Yeah You want to be loudly elite
Starting point is 00:41:11 You want everyone to know Abnoxiously elite No that's too fast Oh right Yeah yeah it's too far You don't want to be obnoxiously elite But I know Graham was actually Throwing a lot of compliments
Starting point is 00:41:20 My way He's a podcast with the show And I really appreciate it And it's interesting You only remember The really good And the really bad Didn't he also call you a handsome idiot
Starting point is 00:41:30 Oh yeah Something like that Yeah Yeah It was one of those compliment sandwiches, but the compliment was very small slice of ham, and it was big thick bits of bread. I used to think
Starting point is 00:41:39 this, this, this, but now I think this, this, so it's nice. His perception of me has changed, which is lovely. What it's inspired though were people ringing up and saying, what was the core thing they remember somebody saying about them, which I love. Yeah, like what was said about you?
Starting point is 00:41:54 That stuck. Just stuck. Years on, you've still never forgotten when that kid said to their mum something about you, or you saw something about yourself in an email. Sometimes I think the ones that sit the most weirdly are not your parents, but your friend's parents when they say something about you. Those ones kind of stick quite quickly. The one that sticks with me is an ex-girlfriend of mine.
Starting point is 00:42:14 In fact, the only other girlfriend I've ever had. Her father said that she would be better off with a dog. Yep. That's right. Than me in an email. And I saw the email. I was never supposed to read it. So it was actually like legit.
Starting point is 00:42:25 Yeah. And I remember seeing it and the feeling I felt when I read that. Did she get the dog? No. No, she didn't in the end. Got a new partner. Got a new partner and he is successful. I remember an ex of mine when I didn't get into broadcasting school for my first time, he goes,
Starting point is 00:42:42 I didn't think you would. I had an ex-girlfriend say to me, I'm better in small doses. That's true. I was like, I only see you once a week. I know people that have said the same thing. All right, what was said about you that just stuck? You've never forgotten it. Good and bad.
Starting point is 00:43:02 I wait under the Edge of Texas 3343 Clint, Megan Dan What's said about you Might have been recent or it might have been 10 years ago And it just stuck, you've never forgotten it, good or bad I think it has to be really good or really bad Typically it's bad I think so, yeah
Starting point is 00:43:16 The stuff that you really remember is the negative stuff Isn't it sadly? Sarah's got a story All right, let's go to Sarah Hey Hello Hey Sarah, morning, how's Hamilton this morning? It's cold
Starting point is 00:43:29 Yeah, like everywhere around the country What was said about you that stuck? Yeah, so it was almost nine years ago when I first met my husband's sister she said to us, how long's this one going to last? And yeah, it's stuck with me ever since. My goodness me. How many...
Starting point is 00:43:49 Well, this one, are you stubborn? You're like, even if he's an ass, so I'm going to stick with him now and show you. That's what I would do. I need to prove her wrong. You've been tired into what you. Yeah. Thanks, Sarah.
Starting point is 00:44:03 It was almost nine years ago and being married for almost six. Yeah, you did pretty well. Isn't that such a good feeling? It's the best feeling. And it always spurs you on, eh, when you get stuff like that. I love this one from you, Jason. Jason, what's something that's stuck with you? Yeah, morning team.
Starting point is 00:44:17 About eight years ago, we were on a drive-up to R&P, and I was leading the convoy. And we got, I think it was like halfway up the trip, and we stopped for lunch. And my mate was like, you're really good at driving consistent speeds. It just stuck with me. I just love that. It's such a great...
Starting point is 00:44:33 I was like... Good, inconsistency. Literally do you know you're on cruise control. Yeah, but it was before I had a car was cruise control, so I was like, I was stoked with that. Yeah, you should be. Because, you know, it's hard to find people that are like that. They either go fast and slow and...
Starting point is 00:44:48 There's nothing worse than a jerker. Like, you know, the ones where you're going to like that. Jason needs better mates. If that's the greatest compliment they've ever given you in the last decade. I reckon that's a good compliment. I like it. Yeah, I'll take petitions for new mate. Yeah, yeah, I do love that you love it, Jason.
Starting point is 00:45:05 Somebody that is laminated something. My boss at the time 20 years ago said, she delivers herself with panache. I've laminated it. What's panache? Panash, a bit of spunk. Really? Yeah, a bit of panache.
Starting point is 00:45:18 Panash, I've never heard. That sounds like some sort of dessert, sounds delicious. I'm having a panash for dinner. Mum said I had ugly legs as a teenager. I never wore shorts. since. I'm 62.
Starting point is 00:45:31 A famous one from one of my mum's mates. My two friends walked out about to go to town. She goes, you, you're wearing too much makeup. You, you're not wearing enough. Were you the one that was not wearing enough? No, no, no. It wasn't there.
Starting point is 00:45:48 Oh, that's never forget it. All right. I wait under the edge if you want to crack an easy money. We'll see if we can get a thousand bucks into your bank account. Honesty, eh? That's such a good, honest one. And stinky b. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:46:03 30 seconds on the clock. If you can give us 10 answers starting with today's letter, which is why. Then we'll get the cash into your bank account. ASAP, you can pass. If we've got time, we'll come back. But no repeated answers. Now, why does sound, it could be one of the ones
Starting point is 00:46:17 that's quite easy. Yep. Right? Because there's not many options of words that start with why. Yeah, your brain will just, hopefully, just gravitate instantly to the only word that hopefully exists as the answer. And if it does, and you give us 10 answers,
Starting point is 00:46:30 we'll give you a thousand. bucks. Hey, Shaz playing this morning. Shaz, $1,000. All yours. Are you ready in the next few seconds if you win? Indeed. Okay, because I made it sound like she'd won it already.
Starting point is 00:46:42 Yeah, I know. Let's live in that moment just quickly. What do we spend the money on, Chaz? We'd go on a Kmart shopping free, probably. Oh, nice. Kmart. God, you get a lot at Kmart. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:53 A thousand bucks. Okay. Well, let's put it out into the universe. So let's see how this goes. Shaz, your letter is Y. Okay. Time starts at the end of me asking you your first question. Give us 10 answers. Come on, Chess.
Starting point is 00:47:05 Good luck. Give me a song title. Pass. A food. Yoga. A job. A yoffing instructor. A three-letter word.
Starting point is 00:47:22 YEC. A colour. Yellow. A brand. A brand. A brand. A hobby. Yoga.
Starting point is 00:47:39 Something made a. Damn time. You got through seven, you answered six because you passed on the first one. I thought YMCA might have been a sitter. Yeah, yellow, but then you would have missed out of the colour. You know what? I was the same as you, Shaz.
Starting point is 00:47:52 I wasn't looking at the answers, and I couldn't think of a song title either. So I would have passed on that one. That's tricky, yeah. Okay, well done. That's all right. Next time. Thanks, Shab. Sorry, Shaz.
Starting point is 00:48:03 Yeah. Oh, that's gutting, eh? I really thought that was going to be an easy one. Yeah. Well, back to the drawing board. 7 a.m. tomorrow. We'll give you another chance at winning a thousand bucks. And also, we give away a guaranteed $1,000 at 8.30.
Starting point is 00:48:17 Coming up next, postcode playlist. We haven't done this in a while. We put together anthems for places around New Zealand, town, cities. This week, Gisbon. Because they're in the news, the final air, the ever rhythm and vines happening in Gisbon. Yeah, and I guess to celebrate that, every call of wins on Friday.
Starting point is 00:48:34 You get on the air between 6am and 10 a.m. We'll send you to R&V for free. and a bit of a G up ahead of Friday show. Dan has your song, Gisbon. Clint, Megan Dan. Lesh goal! Yeah, and to celebrate Every Caller Wins Friday, we are doing Postcode playlist
Starting point is 00:48:48 an anthem for Gisbon, the home, for the final year of Rhythm and Vines. And we took some suggestions early this week on stuff that could be included in the song for Gisbon. Katrina said it has the longest concrete wharf in the southern hemisphere. That's in there, brilliant. That every heavy rain equals
Starting point is 00:49:07 Surridge into the rivers And Cherie, what needs to be in the song for Postcode Playlist? I think that we have the best KFC in the country Yeah, we have two KFC here for such a small town And I think that's a new one that's opened up in Kite That's the best that we have I always, I wonder, like do they Depending on which one you go to
Starting point is 00:49:26 Does it really make a difference with fast food? If it's the same recipes and the same things I never really, really? Sometimes it does, yeah Do you really think that you can get the same booking thing like order and it's in a different place and there's one that's better than the other. I think sometimes it's management. You know, they
Starting point is 00:49:39 just run a tighter ship. Oh, right. Faster fresher. Other stuff that came through on the text machine. Apparently there's a cinema there that has beanbags and set of seats. How often are they washing the covers? That's true. Oh, you don't wash a cover of a beanbag. They'd be a nightmare.
Starting point is 00:49:55 Yeah. Apparently, Gisbon's the first city in New Zealand to see the sun in summer. So that's our sunrises. There's train tracks over the airport runway there, which apparently are not used anymore. There's a place called Weimar to cheese that makes great cam and beer. So a lot of
Starting point is 00:50:12 stuff, Kittie Takanoa, Dame Kittie Takanoa, huge export from New Zealand opera singer. She's from there. So yeah, lots of stuff which I've compiled into a beautiful EDM track. An original? It's completely original. All right, Gizzy. Let us know what you think. If you think Dan has absolutely
Starting point is 00:50:27 nailed this and captured the heart of Clint, McGahn, Gisbon, in a two-minute song. Of the North Island is there, Gizpun. Venniards make all the shardinay and Gisbon. Heavy rain, the sewer's overflow with poo and Gisbon. New Year's air is born, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, bun, The Kiwi right-off passage to ring in the new year, pumping millions of dollars into the local economy.
Starting point is 00:51:42 Train tracks cross over the air. The road trip to Gisbon has been a New Year's Eve right of passage for thousands of revelers. But the algorithm and vines is packing up the party for a new location, but organisers won't say where that next chapter begins. That's a bit of a down buzz. Let's bring the vibes back up. That's your anthem, Gizzi? You're welcome.
Starting point is 00:52:49 Also, I love the little like proof that Gisbon is pronounced like that when you're putting newsreader and saying it. Yes, I know. Yeah, we got a little shit for saying Gisbon instead of Gisborne. Apparently that's how it's supposed to be pronounced. Early feedback, what is this trash dam? Yes. I don't know what the trash was, to be honest. I have tears in my eyes.
Starting point is 00:53:09 It's so good. All right, I'm excited to hear what you want to say. Call us the O-A-Def, especially if you're from Gisbon, Texas 3. What do we miss? Every caller wins tickets to RMV if you get on air Friday between 6am and 10 a.m. We will send you for free and to celebrate Dan. Decide to give Gizzy their very own postcode playlist. East Coast of the North Island is there.
Starting point is 00:53:36 Not everyone from Gizzy love the myth reference, but then you don't write the lyrics, Dan. They get suggested and you just put them in a song. Yeah, I didn't write them unfortunately. and it is, the meth levels are high. If it does feel like most towns that you've done these songs for, you could put that line in. True. I mean, you can say it about Auckland. You can say it about Hamilton, Christchurch.
Starting point is 00:53:57 Yeah, we're getting a lot of love for it, Dan. I still stand by the fact, Clint, I would love to be able to get that on some stage at R&V. I don't get what time it is, if it's in between sets. I would love to be able to play that. And also, sad to Gisman, I just did a quick Google of most meth consumption per capita in New Zealand and it's Northland. Is it?
Starting point is 00:54:17 Yeah. Yeah, Farangay in that area. But I think Gisbon was probably in the top five. No, then Y Katoa, then Gisbon. Yeah. Yeah, that number three. So, yeah, it is up there. They're in a podium placing.
Starting point is 00:54:29 All right, what does Danielle think? Oh, 800 the edge. Hey, Danielle. Hey, Danielle. Hey, Danielle. How are we? Go, Danielle. I don't know if you can comment because you're not from Gisbon.
Starting point is 00:54:38 Have you been there before? No, I'm not. No. But I've personally just, have to say, though, that that tune, the background track was an absolute vibe man. Honestly, on the way to work, if that could be on the set list
Starting point is 00:54:52 for R&V, that would be, oh. Hey, look. Yeah, it'd be amazing. You should be proud, Dan. If R&V call me and they want me to headline at midnight on the 31st, I'll be there. She said she had tears in her eyes that was that good.
Starting point is 00:55:04 We need to get John Summer in studio and just ask him if you could, just when he finishes a set, if you could just jump in and plug in your phone for one. Hey, Johnny boy, you finished at 11? You just get me on and I'll take us through to midnight, baby. You're going to get you off. Midnight, you're going to play that song 30 times.
Starting point is 00:55:20 Yeah, I'll do the R&V mix. And Matt, Matt, you'll want you to be at the show when it's played. Oh, mate, absolutely. I'm going to wait for his album to drop two. Okay, unfortunately you've got to be waiting a while. Long time. I'll see you front left, Matt. See you there, mate.
Starting point is 00:55:36 That's the one. Try you on here, Mattie. Friday, every caller wins R&V tickets between 6am and 10 a.m. Yeah. You don't have to do too much. Just get on here and you're going for free. Somebody said, get Sin and Brooke to play it. They're on George FM.
Starting point is 00:55:50 Sin is a friend of mine. I think that would lose me, my friend, please. But you know when you know what you can ask for people? When you ask a free to favour and you know it's going to tarnish your relationship. Yeah, I don't think I can do that. Someone else said Farangere is definitely the meth capital. Thanks for confirming that. Lots of feedback.
Starting point is 00:56:04 Lots of feedback. Clint Megan Dan. We have a couple of stars. Maya and Leana from the Blackfins who are going to be taking on the Australian Wallaroos at Go Media Stadium and a few Saturdays from now 22nd of August Good morning, girls. Good morning, morning. Such an honour to have you guys in. I love the jerseys that you've got and you're saying
Starting point is 00:56:24 that they're new, if I can describe them, they're black and pink striped. It's a pink coral. Yeah. Maya say salmon. Salmon. That's more like it. I love them. They're so cool. What do we think about the buyers we've been given? Maya, a real fan favorite, quite possibly the smileiest rugby player on the planet. Wow. Is it true? Yeah, hard out.
Starting point is 00:56:46 Lots of people think I'm smiling, but I have quite forward-set teeth, and so when I wear the mouth guard, it's making my mouth open. You're going to the opposite to me, because I've got a resting bitch face. So you've got the opposite. And Leanna, she's definitely smiling. Leanna, you're the dynamic loose forward and the 26 blues player.
Starting point is 00:57:06 Yeah, dynamic. Yeah. And it's like that one. Pardon? 2026 blues player of the year? Yeah. Are those stitches and? your eyebrow, I can see?
Starting point is 00:57:15 Yes, I just got them from our recent game in Sydney. She would have bleed and bleed and bleed in that area, right? They would look badass. She looks so cool. Yeah, right? I've always wondered that, when you get an injury like that on the field, you see it with the All Blacks and also with you guys. Do you just let it bleed so it looks more badass? Yeah, she waits.
Starting point is 00:57:34 I just wait for everyone to notice me. I just kind of just do my thing. I'm looking around. I'll stop playing rugby completely and make sure everyone sees me. I always love asking like sports stars this when it comes to your family how the pride and stuff that comes to parents
Starting point is 00:57:52 or siblings or how is it for you guys did they turn up at every game if they can? Our family would turn up to every game if they could I wonder as well do you have that moment when you turn around and you see like mom or dad like waving and you almost don't feel groaning you feel like a little kid again Oh, that's cute to think about.
Starting point is 00:58:13 That is a nice way to think about it. Yeah, I think so. Like if my dad randomly shows up at a football game and I see him, he's like, Clint, and he's like, get a goal! And we'll wave. And I was like, oh, I feel like I'm like 14 again or something. Yeah, no, I think we've been very blessed because my parents have always been sidelined ever since I was like,
Starting point is 00:58:30 young, playing netball even. Yeah, so do they get you into rugby or did you guys get yourselves into rugby and then go from there? You know, were they like pushing at a young age to be like, we want you to be rugby players? No way. No. No way.
Starting point is 00:58:42 Rugby was not really a thing when I was younger. Well, I'm from a small town. I'm from Hastings. And so women's rugby was not very seen. Yeah. And so I looked up to my brothers a lot. They both play rugby. And so I wanted to be like them.
Starting point is 00:58:55 And then as soon as we got a rugby team, I joined it. And now they want to be like you. Yeah. I'm sorry, blues player of the era. I hate the blue. Interesting. You see the women's rugby wasn't very seen because have you guys noticed a little bit of an uplift in the coverage that you've been getting over the last 12 months?
Starting point is 00:59:10 I know we spoke about it around 12 months ago now about, I think I saw a news story. And it was you guys had won and the All Blacks had lost. Yet the All Black's loss on the news sites was higher up than your stuff. But I think over the last year or so, I feel like it's getting better not to a point where it needs to be. But have you noticed? Yeah, definitely. I think there's been such a big push to see Women's Rugby more, especially from the people within our team. We have great media managers and people who are pushing us to be seen so that we can grow a game and get, you know.
Starting point is 00:59:47 I think it's important as well for young girls to be, like there's so much out there for young boys to watch these incredible players and athletes out there. Oh, yeah. But like for young girls to see you guys doing what you do is so great. Yeah, yeah. I've got two young daughters and it's so awesome knowing my producer card just in my ear. If you can see it, you can be it knowing that they can watch you guys and be inspired to be anything. thing that they want to be. So thank you to you guys. So no pressure against Ozzy in a couple of weeks now. Yeah. I'm so excited. What's your record like
Starting point is 01:00:20 against the Australian Walleroo? Like is this something you guys are expected to dominate and give them a bit of a thrashing and send them back home or not? I think the Walleroo's have gotten better every year that we've played them and so I think each time we play them it's kind of just who shows up on the day. Yeah. If I was to put a cheeky bed on in a couple of weeks time. What should they? Don't be to get us in trouble. Trying to get us in trouble.
Starting point is 01:00:46 Maya Leona, thank you guys so much. All the best with the game on Saturday, 22nd of August. So get around. It's at Go Media Stadium. It's a great venue. And hopefully you girls manage to come away with the W. Thank you. See you guys there.
Starting point is 01:00:58 And less stitches, probably. Yeah. It'd probably be good too. No, more, more. No, no. The Clint Meg and Dan podcast. I was watching a clip from a podcast, and I wanted to grab it for you guys because I thought this is relatable to some people, probably not most, hopefully not most.
Starting point is 01:01:14 But one of their mates on the podcast is addicted to Candy Crush. Still? Yeah, I know, which is shocking to me because it used to be Farmville. It was Candy Crush. It was the Kardashian game where people were spending their money, which is real money, but in game form, just like you can do with Fortnite bucks and things like that. So have a listen to his latest bill. You guys remember when I told you that I spent over $4,000 on Candy Crush, right?
Starting point is 01:01:37 I never forget that. And I hope you've stopped. I have not. I don't know the amount yet. My business manager is about to call us because he told me you're going to want to record this. Oh, God. I don't know if you're ready for it. Okay, hit me.
Starting point is 01:01:50 It's 22,000. Oh, see. Shut up! 22,000 American dollars. What a crock of shit. Do you think so? Well, I don't know. But even if it is real, that's mental.
Starting point is 01:02:04 Some people just get addicted. Yeah, and they do it every day. He's rich then. That would cripple most people. Well, he is rich. He was, yeah, the very much so not so bothered by it. I think the first 20 bucks you ever spend on something fake. I find that's the dumbest waste of money because you're spending real money on fake stuff.
Starting point is 01:02:22 But my son likes playing four night and he wants to get different skins. My daughter plays Toka Boka. And it's like this artificial cartoony world and you have a house and you can decorate your room and your house. And she's always keeping it tidy. Ironically, her actual bedroom. terrible. Yeah, is the opposite. But she wants to buy more furniture for her pretend house to put in and whatever. And the first 20 bucks is like, this is ridiculous. But then you get used to, I guess, spending money on fake stuff. And then before you know it, you go, how have we dropped 200 bucks on this? She needs to go back to Animal Crossing and come to a rich auntie Meg. I've got $8 million in that game. She just needs to come and ask me, well, bells, eight million bells. But if she doesn't want to play, I'll just sit there. Turns out when Meg went to get a bank loan, though, the mortgage broker was not impressed. I've never, can someone please explain to me?
Starting point is 01:03:10 I've never understood spending money on games when it's not real. There's no tangible thing you're getting from it. I guess the output, the emotion that you get is tangible. I think as well what happens in a lot of games. You can play like the hard way and slowly progress or you can just drop 50 bucks and all of a sudden you're fast forwarding probably a month's worth of game time to get what you want now. We need to call the person that's text through saying I've spent $5,000 on Fortnite.
Starting point is 01:03:36 I'd love to know what they've got for that. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Well, this is what I'm looking into. How much real money did you spend on fake stuff? Whether that's somebody that's your own money and you enjoy doing it, or maybe your kids accidentally did it because I think that happens quite often. With credit cards and the only... Daniel just said my five-year-old son accidentally bought 12,500 V-Bucks last week,
Starting point is 01:03:57 which is $127 real dollars. Yeah, the only thing I've ever spent money on online is Grand Theft Auto, and I've just spent, like, I think it was like 50 bucks, and you got like $20 million. in the game. So you could buy cars and all that sort of stuff. Well, then don't you understand it then? Didn't that bring you joy?
Starting point is 01:04:14 Not really. Not much does. Nothing much brings me joy. Okay, how much real money did you spend on fake stuff? And how much joy did you get of it? Yeah, was it worth it? Yeah, did you get the equivalent amount of joy from it? Clint, Meg and Dan.
Starting point is 01:04:31 Oh, my gosh. I am shocked by these texts that are coming through. I do not understand this world. but I understand people will spend lots of money on things that bring them joy and if this is what brings you joy then fine it's their money, it's their way to spend it right? There are other things that I think people would think you spend money on like fatans that they couldn't care of.
Starting point is 01:04:49 I think it's fine if you're not crippling other parts of your life. Yeah, for sure. Like if you're spending money on this and you have it and you're not importing fuel and food and stuff, then it's fine. Well, it's the same as when you had your watch obsession, all your obsessions that you've been through. Moin-controlled car, how many have you got? Mountain,
Starting point is 01:05:06 Vikings. Five. What are you, what are you bidding on right now? Golf clubs. There we go. I placed a bid for $1,000 on some gold cups thinking it would be higher, and now I'm the leading bid.
Starting point is 01:05:18 Nightmare. How much real money are you spending on fake stuff when it comes to gaming and getting different skins or just unlocking certain levels because you don't want to do the hard yards? All right, let's go to Nicole. Nicole, how much money have you spent on what game? I have spent over 5K on 4.4. Like. Now, now you have hindsight, the benefit of hindsight, Nicole.
Starting point is 01:05:42 Do you regret it? No. Good. Nice. But it's a free game. So what are you buying for $5,000? Skin. Skins and emotes and blighters and, like, I gift people things too.
Starting point is 01:05:57 Oh, fine. And they just bring you joy. Like, I have over 400 skins and probably, like, over 500 emo. Oh, how many? You even know you could get that many. 400? 400? I don't people with thousands.
Starting point is 01:06:10 Floor skin. Clint's only brought four skins. 390s more skins that I've got. We all went. We're trying to get there. We're all looking at Johnny. Thanks for that gift. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:06:23 Thanks, mate. We all cooked it though. We did with here. All suck. Hi, Jordy. Hi, how you there? How much money have you spent on Fortnite? I haven't spent any on Fortnite.
Starting point is 01:06:34 I haven't spent 20 grand. on a mobile game. What mobile? Is that great? Candy crash, a different one? It's called the Grand Mafia. The Grand Mafia. And what do you do with your 20K?
Starting point is 01:06:46 That is a lot of money. So what do you get for that? Mafia. I'm looking up to go now. Nothing really. Truth and just stronger gear. Okay. Now, Tori, I'll ask you the same question I asked Nicole.
Starting point is 01:06:59 Do you regret it? No, and I still play it now. I'm still spending. That's 200 bucks. a few hundred bucks a week. Do you have a partner in this situation? Do they know about your spending online? I've played it for six years now,
Starting point is 01:07:15 and I've had a couple partners in between, and yeah, they weren't too happy about it. Yeah, right. You'll find your person that also likes spending a lot of money on Grand Mafia, I imagine. And that's got a grant as well. Right. What has, is it you or your ex
Starting point is 01:07:31 that used to spend a lot of money on fake stuff? It was my ex, but it was my money. Okay, it was your money. She was spending real money on fake stuff. What's the fake stuff? Plastic surgery. Oh, so she wasn't getting four skins. She was just getting new skin.
Starting point is 01:07:47 Yeah, great. Yeah, and new body, well, new shaped body parts. Wow, I guess I... New boobs, new bum. How long after you dropped $20,000 on plastic surgery, did you go split? We were actually split before, but yeah How did you get that? Why did you keep paying?
Starting point is 01:08:09 Why was it your money? Well, yeah, it's a difficult one, but yeah, when we split, you know, your ex gets half, so yeah. Oh, so it's my money, Grant, don't say it's your money. That's what happens, pass off. I'm not going to take that. His relationship status on Facebook is, that's complicated. Very. Someone, Ashley, spent a couple thousand on Monopoly Go.
Starting point is 01:08:36 Whoa. Yeah, someone else said they spent a lot of money on a fake wife. We need more details on that one, Logan. I would love to speak to Caesar who spent $35,000 on a game called Pirates. Battle Pirates. I love it. Philippa said, I like this. She said, what's the difference between dropping $50 in a video game or dropping it in time zone?
Starting point is 01:08:56 You know, neither gives you very much. You just, but it's just the time. But, Philippa, here's the thing, Philippa. No one's text in saying they've spent 35K at Times on. Yeah, it's true. Clint, Megan's Anne. StinkyB. Guy Montgomery, you're going to have to tell me how you managed to get a third season on a TV show.
Starting point is 01:09:10 It's always eluded me. Normally cancelled after two. You're struggling to get our TV show now, Clint. Yeah, yeah, very much so. Yeah, I think it's a talent-based question, isn't it? You've really got to have a strong anchoring sort of presence. Yes, right. Or it could just be something as simple as trying to get people to spell
Starting point is 01:09:26 and make it as humiliating as you can conceive of. It's another route I've thought about. Well, that's your show, Spallengby. That is, may I say, being very, very successful, not only in New Zealand, but... Permission granted to say that, absolutely, yeah, yeah. By all wins. But across the ditch as well, you, like, there's a throng of New Zealand comedians now that are doing very well across the ditch.
Starting point is 01:09:46 You yourself, obviously, Mel Bracewell. I know Ursula was one of the early ones as well. She's our North Star, yeah. She's our nucleus. Yes. With the show, did you come up with the idea, or was it something that you were... it was already happening and they're like,
Starting point is 01:09:57 we won't guide affront it. No, this is all me. That's why I got my name in the title twice. No one designed a show that I stepped into it. And it was like,
Starting point is 01:10:05 and we'll call it this. Sorry, the contract. What's the part of COVID? Yeah, it came out of COVID. I was doing it during lockdown. I thought,
Starting point is 01:10:12 because I do like spelling bees and I watched American ones and, you know, you'd watch, like these amazingly bright kids would be given a really challenging spelling word and they'd ask for the root language or the definition or a sentence.
Starting point is 01:10:25 And because they actually understand etymology, it would functionally help them understand how to construct and spell the word. Yeah. And I'd be watching that. And some of the words are so insanely sort of difficult or like outside of normal vernacular. The sentence that the moderator would read it out and would be so ornate just to build a sentence that could house a really obscure word. And I was like, oh, that's kind of almost a joke. You could actually just do that with normal words and write jokes. Yeah, right, right. So I thought you could every word at the start of a show, you'd get three jokes. You get language of origin, definition, and sentence. And they could all be.
Starting point is 01:10:56 jokes and so I thought I'll do that. Did it with some friends because all of comedy got wiped out, no life performance. Then when we got let out of the house, it was like, that could be a good live show. Did it as a live show and then when I did that, I said, oh, that could be a good TV show. And then, you know, and pitched it. And it took a while, but now here we are. There you go, Clint, that's what you need to do. You just need to start another global pandemic.
Starting point is 01:11:18 Honestly, I think you lost Clint after the third word in that first sentence. I see. Sorry, I'll reduce it to single syllables. I'll do easy words now Even that's got too many syllables Now it'd be rude not to get our producer Carl in here right now guy Because he is renowned on the show For being the worst speller
Starting point is 01:11:38 I think I've ever met Yes I remember this actually I'm getting flashbacks Oh yeah Yeah yeah yeah truly And here's the problem is like Carl will save a lot of things In the system And then when you try and find them
Starting point is 01:11:47 You can't because he hasn't spelt them How they correctly spell? You can spell them like you think How would Carl spell them here? How would a child spell this? That was one of our first season games was spell like a six-year-old. And you had to match your spelling to how a six-year-old had spelled simple words. Oh, no, I think you'd be good at that.
Starting point is 01:12:05 No, because it's not that you're just trying to guess exactly the same spelling as a real-life six-year-old had done. So orange would be O-R-I-N-J, and you'd be happy. I don't see the problem. Yeah, exactly. So to illustrate this to you guy, I'm just going to give them some really easy words. And I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the show. I mean, feel free to throw in some that you know. Hey, no way, you know what you could do, guy?
Starting point is 01:12:27 Listen to how Dan does it, and then you could critique his performance. Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely. This is kind of like an old school circus situation where you go and laugh at the freaks. So for you, you just get to sit in the audience. Yeah, yeah, fantastic. Thanks for bringing me in for this. Okay, here's your first one, Carl. Okay, spell for me.
Starting point is 01:12:42 My heart is racing. Vacuum. Oh, that's a tricky word. Vac. VA. You can ask to get it in a sentence if you want. Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 01:12:52 VACU M-E. No. No, no, no, way off. But I tell you what, the first three letters were looking so good. Well done, Carl. It's like a compliment sandwich over. Those playing at home, it's VACU-U-U-M. U-U.
Starting point is 01:13:08 That's a W-U. Yeah, W. That's stupid word. Not to be confused, of course, with the famous W-U. Yeah. We've seen that before. Okay, let's go easier then. Actually, that was the first time, thanks then.
Starting point is 01:13:19 Let's go aisle. A. The grocery aisle. homophone. Oh, God, you are good. Oh, is that like a... But you want to go grocery aisle, not stretch of water. I-I-L-O-M-M-A-L-E?
Starting point is 01:13:34 Dude, did you know what? Has it got a Y in it? No, it's getting worse. But phonetically, what you've done I-L-E is stunning. Because, I mean, you have got, you've reduced it to its absolutely necessary parts. Yeah, that's what Cald out. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You've got your own form of shorthand.
Starting point is 01:13:52 What he's doing is unearthing the faults in the English language That's what he's doing And that's all I'm trying to do Final one, final one, final one Let's finish on just one more Receit Okay Oh, I hate this one
