This is a podcast from Rover.
If you're easily offended, keep listening.
We love a challenge.
This is the Clint Meg and Dan podcast.
No, no-remant.
Clint Megan Dan with Ash London.
The Edge Brecky.
Hitt's harder in Auckland.
Yol-two-three-h-h-ha.
Yol-good morning.
It is Thursday, 4th of December.
Oh, yes, it is.
Hello, my darling.
We're so happy to be here.
It's going to be a big one boy.
Yeah.
It's a special show today.
It is.
Yeah.
Every call of good.
we're going to give you the opportunity
between now and 10 o'clock to get on the year
and donate to a really incredible cause
that ensures, or is trying at least,
and has for the last 12 years
to make sure that every kid has a really cool Christmas.
So amazing.
I wonder who the first person in the country
is going to be to text give to 3-34-3 this morning
and kick it all off for us.
Clint and I went to the kindness cleatel of yesterday,
didn't we, Clint?
And it was such an amazing experience.
We were like, we went with the guys
that we were going to go through
like we were a family.
And experience what all the family's experience.
Yeah, because we got given like a voucher with a number two on it
because we said that's how many kids we had.
Yeah, a boy and a girl.
Love it.
And then you turn it over and it would tell you how many gold presents,
silver presents and bronze presents that you could buy,
how many grocery items.
The amount of stuff that we left with and then it all got bagged up
and we got a police escort back to our car.
Oh, that's so good.
That was because everybody you Clint and all that went into.
They were raging.
Dancing with the Stars guy.
The first person to donate this morning is Beautiful Alex,
who won 500 bucks in our body armour like this week with finally after five days of suggesting
she won her 500 bucks so she's donating a portion of that thank you Alex we love you sweetheart
segue we're going to kick that off next actually i know it's every call it gives but we're also
going to be given you um i guess prizes and cash in that as well just like normal uh so 500 bucks
in a body armor like prize pack if you can uh suggest a rev up track for the rest of the country
three three four three on text we'll get it on if it's good enough
Oh, oh my gosh.
Giving you the chance to do something really cool this Christmas
and give back so that kids can come off a wait list
and have a Christmas that they didn't get last year.
Yeah, the link was being a bit tricky for the past couple of minutes.
So if you tried it and it didn't work, you can try it again.
Text give to 3, 3, 4, 3.
It is up and working.
20 bucks gets one child off the wait list this Christmas.
And that's like 20 bucks is perfect.
Yeah, we went through us three gifts, three separate gifts,
which is pretty cool.
My kids are getting three gifts, give you the hot tip.
Yeah.
And not they're great gifts as well.
Like big Lego sets, Bayblade.
Also, they had these massive Captain America shields
that started coming out as well.
And they said they got something like 170 of those
that just arrived into the store.
My child cried this week because he wanted a Captain America Shield
and I made one out of cardboard.
And he was like, it's not the same.
It's definitely not.
I thought it was real good.
It was okay.
The star and then the red circle
and then I attached a little handle to it anyway.
It was made of cardboard.
That's all right.
All week and all last week, we've been giving you the chance to suggest a rev-up track.
Thanks to Body Armour Light, rapid hydration to live life loud.
And if the track's good enough, we'll play it and we'll give you $500 in a prize pack.
Now Martin joins us, Oh, 800 the Edge.
Martin, what was the song you were suggesting this morning for the rev-up track?
Well, I reckon, S Club 7, bring it all back.
Now, that is a good song.
You know us, don't you, Martin?
You know us in our souls.
I do.
You did make a cheeky promise when you texted us on 3343.
You're going to stick to your promise this morning?
Yep, definitely.
Share with the people what you'll be doing.
I will donate $150.
Oh, wow.
What a man, Martin.
That is a great start.
That's amazing.
Incredible.
That's like six kids getting Christmas presents thanks to your generosity, darling.
And you get to place at S Club 7 as well.
Oh, how good.
Westy, darling, thank you.
Thanks, Martin.
You have a great Christmas, Martin.
It does mean a couple of really great songs will miss out.
Tubb would roll in his grave if he knew he lost to S-Clob 7.
Oh, well, there's always tomorrow.
Tupac was a man of the people also.
And he would say the children need Christmas first, exactly.
I saw this on text too.
We got a lot of text, where I saw this one pop up and then disappear.
And then another great one, which is not being suggested all week.
I will never say never
He'd be fine
Oh this much
This is good contender for Friday
I've just got sevens winning today
I forgot how good at song was
This is like his second big hit after baby eh
Yeah
I'd love him to re-record it now as like a man at his 30
With his like man vocals
Yeah
Okay well
Just man vocals
You know what I mean
Not his pretty pubes and vocal
Yeah true
All right Martin
Congratulations, bro.
Body armor light rapid hydration price back
in 500 bucks cash, or 350, I suppose.
God, generosity feels good.
I didn't even give the money and I feel good.
The Clint Migg and Dan podcast.
That is your Body Amelight
rev-up track.
He just scored himself 500 bucks
and then donated like a third of it
to the Kindness Collective.
What a good man.
Yeah.
Got Christmas presents for six kids.
So, I just want to share something, boys.
I don't have Facebook.
I have like a fake burner account
just so I can do.
check our Facebook group messages every now
which I always forget to do. And then yesterday
I don't normally do this. I went
on to the Edge Breakfast's Facebook page.
I was like, looking all the videos, reading some
comments, some lovely comments. And I came
across a comment that made me laugh so hard
I cried and then I had to screenshot it and send her to
Meg and then she, we both just lay in bed
in the middle of the day because that's what we do.
It was in response...
Not together in the same beard.
Wouldn't that be nice?
How do you think I got this feeling, babe?
I should wait.
So, you know the video where I made fun of you for,
I said, you're ugly, but you've got a great personality.
Vaguely, yes, yeah.
And then she came back.
Oh, yes, yeah, and then she came back and said, Dan, I'm sorry.
What I meant to say was, yeah, she gave you another jab.
That was funny from you to be fair.
And in all honesty, I would never say that to someone I actually found ugly.
You know what I mean?
You only say that to someone who's clearly attractive.
Otherwise it's me.
Well, you've never said it to me.
Yeah, because she thinks you're ugly.
I always say you're gorgeous mate.
Don't lie.
You don't talk any...
You don't say anything nice to know my personality.
Okay, well, this break isn't about you, isn't my love.
Yeah, let me have my moment.
So, there's things up there and I see this.
I won't say the person's name.
Okay.
Let's just call them John.
Oh, they said something.
Have they doubled down on me, have they?
No.
That's put it back on me.
But it's so well done.
Oh, so John got really defensive on Dan's behalf.
Yeah, good on you, John.
John's crying for me.
Thanks, John.
That's not nice.
of how close you guys are,
you ain't no oil painting yourself.
As Dan says,
and you have an annoying laugh,
but we put up with it.
And he said to bring back Meg.
Oh, John.
I wish I'd see that.
I would have gone, thanks, John.
Good on you.
Oh, that's good.
She'll be back soon.
I know we're all excited for Meg
with a non-annoying laugh to come back.
who's a lot prettier than I am.
I've always said this about Johnny's saying what we all think.
Tell you what, actually, you do need to be suspended or something, Ash.
I think you need a couple of days off next week to think about what you've done.
No, don't make me take a couple of days off.
I don't want to go to Waikki with my family.
My head comes in and does the show.
We're banishing you to the boss Leon's house for two days.
Four days.
I've taken the weekend too, down.
Have you asked this property?
Have you been buying it?
to his property
on why he can he put...
No, I have not, Dan.
Neither of mine.
But maybe it's the thing you get to do
after you've been here 10 years, which I'm coming...
Oh no, Ash, you've only been here
five months.
Yeah, right.
Yeah, but, you know,
I've got nothing.
Yeah, I didn't think so.
Clint, Megan Dan.
Lesh, go!
If you want to jump on the phones,
be what would normally be our first call
of the day, but with this $500
bucks that we've been given away,
thanks to Body Armour Light for the last couple of weeks.
I'd big love to Old Mayor, what was his name?
Already forgotten, I'm so sorry.
Martin,
He donated 150.
Good on you, Martin, because he didn't have to donate anything.
No, he could have been like, nah, I've got my own children.
Yeah.
First call of the day.
First call on the day.
Someone who did win that 500 bucks, was it this week or last week,
ended up buying a trampoline for their kids for Christmas.
I was not the best.
He texted yesterday, he said I was worried about Christmas.
I've got two girls.
They've always wanted a trampoline.
We couldn't afford it.
Now, I can buy them a trampoline.
Yeah.
There's no better feeling as a parent than spoiling your kid.
That's a whole summer a crack the egg, I remember crack the egg on the trampley?
Oh, I love to crack the egg.
I don't know what crack the egg is!
Oh, you haven't lived, do they not play a nausea?
So you have one person sits down on their bum, legs crossed,
and then the other person is on trying to double bounce them and make them let go.
You sort of hang onto your big toes, or, I mean, depending on how small you are, I guess, your whole foot,
and then people will bounce you until you have to put your arms out.
That sounds very, very dangerous.
Oh, yeah, it is.
And we didn't have pads back then either.
Morning, Maddie?
Morning
Happy Thursday to you
You're technically the first call of the day
But not you're out the fifth
But that's fine
Yeah what are you up to
At the moment Maddie
Why are you up so early?
I just headed to work
Oh yeah what do you do for work my love
I work in a macarone company
Oh
A macarone
My son calls these
Maccarons
Yeah like the little French biscuits
A little meringue
Oh man
Can you eat macarons now
Or you like I can't look at
another one?
I can, but just not as much as I used to.
I understand.
How long do they last in the box?
Forever.
It's pure sugar.
Like five days out of the freezer?
I'd go two weeks.
What's the best?
Give you a shop a shout-out.
What is the shop you work for?
Jean Macaron's in Christchurch.
Okay, what's the best flavour if you go in there?
Maybe salted butter caramble
Oh
Yum
But they're all good
Okay unpopular opinion
Are we getting too carried away
With salted caramel or everything
No
Everything's salted caramel
Can we just calm a farm with that
Yeah we don't have to buy
I think we're getting to carried away
With like pistachio
I agree
Dubai chocolate
You know I was at the supermarket the other day
I think it was a Whitaker's version
$25 dollars
A lint.
It was the lint.
It was the lint one.
Yeah.
They also have like a pistachio spread, like peanut butter.
Now that you can, I think Picks do one.
Yeah, I've got that at home.
It is actually quite nice.
Oh.
Delicious.
But they're $25 a block for a lint.
I cannot afford.
You could get six blocks for that.
Yeah, overrated.
How many macarons are you churning out personally in a day, do you reckon in an eight-hour shift?
They'd be like 500 or so.
Dash a load of macarolange, baby.
All right, we're going to have to let you go.
You're going to be busy, Maddie.
Yeah, it's going to be a busy day.
Go on you, darling.
How many of Christmas?
Yeah, make sure Bridges Cal gets your details
and gets your Z-Voucher, all right,
so you can go spend that on the way home.
Thank you so much.
Good on you, Maddie.
So welcome. Z has raspberry and rhubarb refresher on their menu.
Big love to Kristen.
She's texted through.
She's pregnant with her fifth.
Bubba has one on the way.
She says she's donating to the kindness collective.
There's been years when it's hard to do Christmas for her
and now that things are better,
she wants to give it back to the community.
I love our listeners.
They're the best people on the planet.
Thank you, sweetheart.
We appreciate that.
And I think, yeah, if you do text the word kind to 334, 3.3,
you'll get the video of Dan and I going to the Joy Store yesterday
and just seeing people like queue up to like go into the Joy Store,
like waiting for their number to get called.
And you just, just the joy of like parents just knowing it was going to be good this year.
And the dignity of choice, they're able to go in there and choose gifts for their kids
that they know they want, you know?
Oh, I'm so happy.
Yeah, so if you text the word give to 3343, we'll give you the link.
We're going to try to raise as much money as we can this morning.
And we'll have a lot of different stories from parents who have been impacted by the Joy Store in the past
or even just this year.
And they'll tell you firsthand what that is like as a parent that didn't think they were going to have a Christmas for their kids.
And now because of the kindness of strangers, they will.
It's the best.
I love this country.
I'm not sure if we are or aren't doing this.
Gossip and the team.
Glit me and Dan with Ash London.
Scandal.
I was giving the option, $200 donation to the kindest collective or do scandal.
To get out of scandal or do it and do it.
And obviously I'm paid the $200 because I don't want to do scandal.
But what we could talk about it.
Why not both?
Yeah.
What we could talk about is Spotify Rapids come out today.
Just to remind everybody, if you haven't opened your Spotify yet, when you do, it's so much fun.
Best one yet as well.
Obviously they up their game every year with Spotify Raps,
but there's so much more facts and figures you get this year.
This year, Luke Holmes gave me a personalised message to say thank you
because he was my top artist.
And it was just to me.
Yeah, he'd just, he'd gone, you were the only one.
Exactly.
I got one from Machine Gun Kelly.
Of course you did.
I got one from Guy Sebastian.
Really?
Yeah.
That checks out for all of us, I reckon.
Yeah.
I had such a mix as well.
We're going to talk about it later on in the show.
But it was like the Venn diagram of some of the crossover stuff
I had like some real hard country
Then defying gravity
Selene Dion
And then Kings of Leon was in there
Like so many different variations
That's why I like music's so great
Because like it just crosses genre
I think my top was Luke Holmes
Then I also my song wise
My number one was
Can I get a Cheehu, Moana
Wow
Who had the most niche number one song
Listen to us right now
I don't know the edge or Texas 3334 3
I think producer NEPia is going to have to load mine from Spotify or YouTube.
It won't be enough to show to the Lord.
Nah, I think it's because it's the first song in like a pool playlist
where you're just like drinking in the afternoon.
So you always just play on that one.
Every time I play on this playlist.
Shut, chat, chat, chat.
It's just that song will always get played.
It shows how often I'm doing that.
Another interesting figure that you get given this year is your age, like your age of listening.
Your listening age.
Your listening age.
So we'll talk about that later.
but one of us is pretty old.
Oh my gosh, guys.
Who do you think is the youngest and oldest on the show?
I need to do another update.
I'm so sorry.
I know we're going to do updates every half an hour.
Yeah.
It's now at 50 families.
50, and we're not even, we've just ticked over 630.
That's $5,000 in donations.
Three and a half hours left.
Wow.
So that means you said it was like three and a half grand,
only like four minutes ago.
Yes.
So someone has dropped like a massive donation.
It was me.
No, I'm just kidding.
I did make my $200 donation to get out of scandal.
But let's not forget we're giving families a Christmas
that otherwise weren't going to have a Christmas this year
So anything you can donate throughout the morning will go a long way
Yeah and actually we're going to hear from I think it's Josh, fake name
A father of two who's mother of his kids passed away about a year and a half ago
And obviously when you're just grieving and just trying to get through life
I guess Christmas is just another thing that your brain just can't really deal with
Christmas still comes.
Yeah, and so he's been through the joy store, father of two,
solo father of two, and he's going to be chinned with us before 7 o'clock this morning.
And I think it's those stories that really show you what 20 bucks here and there can really do
if it goes to the right place at the right time.
And the power of us coming together.
Yeah, thanks for texting give as well if you want to donate.
Liz donated, Nikki.
Thank you so much.
Yeah, thank you, Lauren.
Thanks, Joanne.
Check your name on your text as well if you can because we'd love to save your names in our system.
Otherwise, you're just a phone number to us if you haven't text very often.
This is the spirit of Christmas.
I'm so happy.
You guys are the best.
Clint Megan Dan.
Stinky Boo.
It's breakfast.
Clint Megan Dan with Ash London.
Every caller gives.
Christmas Joyce was an incredible thing that pops up around this time of the year that it allows parents the dignity of choice
and picking up Christmas presents and food so that they can have a free Christmas
that they would have otherwise never been able to experience.
And I think you're right, Clint, the dignity.
choice thing for me is such a huge part.
Like a lot of the time you can go to a food bank
and great, they're amazing and you can pick up
boxes and it's kind of the same for
everyone. Or is this, any parent can go
along and they can choose bespoke gifts
for their kids, like you would if you went into a normal
shop. And Sarah, who started it, she's going to
be on the show with us after seven, she's going to
be around in the background as we try to raise as much
money as we can. I volunteered at the
joy store before, and before you're allowed
on the shop floor to help package
up these presents, she
talks to you about the language
that you use around parents
because you're right, the dignity of choice
and making people feel empowered as parents
and not making them feel embarrassed
because they're having to accept the generosity of others.
I thought it was really cool that she was like,
let's use these words and not these words.
Language is so important.
Because as we all know from our own memories
of being a child, you remember one conversation.
You remember one thing someone says to you,
positive or negative.
And those things become your identity.
identity. As you grow up into an adult, they affect you forever. So language is so important.
And I love that this is being done with so much dignity. And any of us could need this at some
point. You know? We are one shitty situation away from our whole life changing forever.
Yeah. And that was definitely James's story, who is now a single father of two. James, to say
you were down a rough hand is an incredible understatement. Tell us your story. What happened?
My kids' mother passed away a couple of months before Christmas
and yeah I just wasn't in a good mind state at the time
one of my friends sent me a link to go to the joy store
and yeah I got through, went to the joy store
I was kind of feeling cold and not wanting to talk to anybody
but I got there and this lady named Sarah
welcomed me with open arms and just gave me that motherly vibe
and, yeah, and just make Christmas that much better.
First of all of us, we're so sorry that the mama to your beautiful kids is gone.
I can't imagine how that would have felt.
Christmas is hard for so many people,
and it's really easy for us to forget that tragedies happen,
but Christmas still rolls around, you know, your kids still expect presents.
So what was that like?
What effect did that have on Christmas kind of taking one stressful thing away?
Oh, man, looking.
back at it now I was still kind of
in that dark place
but once the Christmas thing was
over I just like realize like how
much easier it was going
to the joy store and getting all that
stuff sorted. James what's it like
trying to be two parents,
mum and dad to your kids?
To be honest it's a struggle
but now now it's all
everything's just fallen into place
yeah things are good and I'm not going to say it's easy
because it's not but we're
juggling nicely I think
And how are your girls going?
Oh, they're good.
They started sports in two sports clubs, schools going good.
Well, James, what do you say to people that I imagine are reluctant to enter a joy store
and accept what some would probably perceive as a bit of a handout?
And they're in a position where they should be able to benefit from a place like this,
but I may be just a little bit apprehensive to do so.
We can say we're tough all the time, but realistically we're not.
And then sometimes we do need a hand, whether it's from a friend or something.
family or the joy store.
If you need it, like, it's there.
And if anybody can go donate,
like, these are the guys, like,
there's no muck around with these guys.
It's just what it is, and you're there to help you.
Good on you. Well said.
Merry Christmas and give our love to your beautiful girls.
Thank you, Merry Christmas, you guys.
You have an awesome day.
Yes, if you do want to give, you can text give to 3343.
We'd love to hear from you if you have donated
or if you've got a really cool story as well.
You've been planning on donating later on today.
whatever it is.
James mentioned in there
about the hug
that Sarah gave
and when he arrived
at the Joy Store.
We got a hug from her
yesterday, didn't we, Clint?
It was such an amazing hug.
She's a great hugger.
Thank you, Anne-Marie.
Thank you, Sarah.
And there was a man when we were leaving.
There's a checkout at the end
where you take all your stuff
and it's like a...
They bag it up.
Bag it up and put them in these amazing bags
and you leave.
And he gave us the best hug
as we were leaving.
Sweet.
I'm at my nightmare, James.
But for you guys,
I'm happy for you.
He asked first.
Okay, go on, mate.

All texted through donations, your legends.
And if you're tuning in, you're like donations for what?
Why is everyone all excited?
Talking about all this money that's being raised.
It was an idea that was birthed a few days ago with Sarah,
who started a charity 12 years ago called The Kindness Collection.
I don't want to cut the montages lunch too much
So I'll sure she'll just play this
Radio speak I don't want to cut the montage as lunch
I love you
I'm like I'm going to end up contesting it a lot
And then it's all going to be in this package we're put together
Cut in the montage Clint
Yeah sorry mate
Stop talking brother
Just hit play
Leave the montage do it stuff
The thing that really has never left me
I was saying to you
There's got to be so much need
And I remember you're saying
Yeah Clint have a look
this is the people that are on a wait list right now
because you can't help everybody.
Unfortunately, I wish I could.
I donated to the charity and you and I sat there
and we just read people's stories
and we were like, yep, take them off the wait list.
Literally clicked the button and you said,
they're going to get an email later today saying that they're off the wait list
and that next week they can come and pick up food and presents for their children.
It was addictive.
So, well, 12 years ago we started with Christmas
just for a small number of kids and the refuge that we work with
It was 43 kids, and last year it was 20,109, so it's kind of jumped a little bit.
The Joy Store gives parents the opportunity to come in and choose gifts,
and then we've also got a social supermarket this year called Tea Makati Harikua,
and it's beautiful, and there's so much food, and it's amazing.
So people will get all the food for Christmas Day and the week after.
And then we also do nationwide toy deliveries in 91 different cities and towns across 16 regions.
It's all about the dignity of choice for us and...
I love that.
I just want to stop down for you to say that, the dignity of choice
because I think...
Sorry, cry that.
Dignity is something that people are so robbed of
when they don't have the funds
and I think that is the most heartbreaking.
So I was nominated to be a shopper at the Joy Store
for my four children.
And in March this year I had to resign for my position
before one of my children was diagnosed
with some really complex medical needs.
It was a big change from working full time
to not at all.
everybody is really just one accident
or one life change away
from everything being up in the air.
It's like a wonderland.
It's just kind of magical
to be on the other foot
and leading to be able to receive that.
Support has been humbling.
People are so generous
and companies have been so generous
to make something like the Joy Store.
I could never even imagine that there was a thing like the Joy Store.
Tell us about your beautiful seven-year-old girl.
Yeah, we were just driving to school
and the kindness collector's interview
came on and, okay, too, I'll just
listen to this, I want you to hear about this.
A few minutes later, she said,
oh, mommy, what's 20 plus 20 plus 20?
We added it up and she said,
100.
And again, she said, I want to give my Christmas
money and get five kids toys.
Darling.
My ash is going to be a mess.
You've done something right there, Mel.
Yeah, well, he is hoping.
I mean, I started sobbing in the car
and she said, why are you crying?
She's like, mum.
We can keep it if we need it.
And it was just, I've never experienced anything like it.
It's pretty much like as a child you envision Santa in the North Pole.
They've pretty much got that going on in Odaoooo, with the kindness collector.
How good?
How bloody good does it feel?
The best.
Did you like an update?
Yeah.
I was going to say, the job.
journey so far, so much more to go.
So this is just from the donations that have been made this morning.
You guys are so generous that you've been donating all week.
So we'll bring you that tally a little later on.
But since 6 a.m., that's in one hour and 10 minutes,
you guys have taken 151 children off the wait list.
That means 151 Kiwi kids are going to have presents under the Christmas tree this Christmas.
Unbelievable things.
And it's not just presents as well.
It's food on the dinner table.
It's just joy, really, isn't it?
Yeah, it's probably where they got the name for the store, I guess.
Yeah. Because it's not the toy store. It's not the toy store. It's the joy store.
It took me a couple days to figure that one out.
You said me too. I just figured it out.
The toy store. Well, Sarah is in the producer booth.
This is her brainchild, her baby.
And the last time we spoke to her, we were just pitching this as an idea.
And now we're here. So she's had the Christmas joy store open for something.
time now, five days?
Oh, she's holding
up the number five. I'll just get her on a microphone next day
and she can tell us, rather than doing sign language
through glass. He cut the lunch of the montage, now he's cutting her lunch,
a nightmare.
Every call he gives raising money for the Christmas joy
store that is part of the kindness
collective charity that Sarah started
12 years ago, she's with us in studio now.
You incredible woman, you? How many times have you had New Zealander of the year?
Oh, shame.
Have you not? Have you never?
No, look, we won community of the year in 2023, which was me.
And then I have, oh, I sound like such a day.
No, I have the question.
When we think of you, we do feel, when you do get dead, selfish, not changing the world.
You don't have time.
I get those medals, but I never get past that.
Do you hear that, guys?
You never get past that.
It's only 26, baby, we've got you.
And Viv, just before we move on, Viv's called up.
I went under the edge.
every caller gives this morning.
How much you're giving this morning, Viv?
I'd love to give you $100,000.
Thank you so much.
You're changing lives.
Thank you so much.
Oh, that's cool.
Keep up the amazing way.
It's amazing.
Love you, Viv.
I know, we get the easy part, really.
You know, you donate the money.
You're a part of something,
but somebody has to be the person
that actually takes that money
makes it go as far as they possibly can
and that person, Sarah.
And the team.
Yes, and the team.
You've got a huge team,
In fact, a very small paid team.
Everyone, most of the people we saw yesterday through the Joy Store.
We're all volunteers.
Yeah.
Yeah, we've actually got a really small core team that make the Mahi happen throughout the year.
But over Christmas, we have 960 volunteers to make the Joy Storework.
Oh, my.
Isn't that amazing?
That restores your faith in humanity, doesn't it?
That sort of thing where these people are just inherently kind and good, I think,
and everyone just wants to be able to help others.
Especially Kiwis.
Especially Kiwis.
So how many days?
has the Joy Store been open? How many families
has it seen through its doors so far?
Hold the line, sir. Can I get a drum roll?
Yes, you can.
Oh, no, tech won't work.
Hang on, hang on.
Talk amongst yourselves.
We'll do our long drum roll.
We've got a few drum roll options.
Okay, okay, okay.
Today is day six of the Christmas Joy Store.
In the first five days, we have had 904 Fano,
representing 326 children.
And across the country, we've done five,
2,210 toys as well.
Wow.
Absolutely incredible.
Tracy, good morning.
She's called through an 0800 of the edge.
Tracy, would you like to give today to the Christmas joy store?
I definitely would, please.
I'd love to give you $100.
Oh, my God.
The generosity of our listeners has no bounds.
That's five kids with presents under the tree.
Tracy, thank you so much, darling.
No problem. My pleasure.
It's a lot of money, 100 bucks.
It is.
Especially this time of year.
Yes.
Yeah, and to try and tangibly visualize, Trace, what that has done,
and everyone else who's given as well.
Dan and I went through yesterday.
You can text Kind to 3343, so you can see the joy store and how it all works.
But just seeing parents go through with trolleys and just grabbing presents
and just putting them in the trolley and not having to worry about picking up the bill at the end.
Like, that's what you are donating to?
And it's amazing brands.
It's Lego.
It's Marvel.
It's Bayblade.
It's stuff.
that kids like top-tier stuff
and they get to experience that.
So, so cool. And they're going to come
back to school or they're going to go to the playground
or like play with the kids
on the street on Boxing Day on Christmas
Day and they're going to feel so proud. They're not
going to feel any different. They're not going to
feel any shame. They're just going to
feel like they've had a dignified Christmas that
every Kiwi child deserves. It's just wonderful.
I think my favourite part
about the whole thing is that when kids wake up
on Christmas morning, they have
no idea a charity was involved and it's
just mum and dad
and dad got me
the Lego that I wanted
mom got me the meanest Barbie
ever and that just makes the parent
the hero and no one knows
we even exist and that's what
makes it so beautiful I think
I'm going to donate $100 every time someone can get
to cry on the show
between now and 10. That's 200 because I'm
crying so okay thanks
that's too okay and you're Dan as well
I'll pay you every time you get Dan to cry
as well Sarah
oh man you're the best
I know you guys are amazing.
Clint, Megan Dan.
The Spotify Racks is out today.
We're about to go through our most listened to song.
But the most interesting thing this year is it gives you a, like a musical age
based on the genres and the songs that you listen to.
People are already texting through their music or their Spotify age.
Someone's 48, their actual age is 21.
Someone's 28, their Spotify age is 71.
Check this, though.
Someone says, oh yeah, they're the one you just read, 71.
That means you've got great taste in class.
classic hits. I agree. If you're like in your
20s, 30s, you're listening to Fleetwood Mac,
maybe some Neil Diamond, I don't
know, Credence, but so many
Simon and Garfunkel,
mine's ruined by my four-year-old child.
I think if I didn't have
Buddy ruining it, I'd be in the 70s,
but because of him it brings that average rate
way down. This is the first
time, like, because last year I got so annoyed that
my Spotify raps was all over the place with bloody
skibbitty toilet and stuff.
Like, just kids on my
Spotify. But I was like, right, I'm getting
Family Spotify and I've got my own account
So I have my own Spotify around for the first time
So this is a proper reflection of your actual musical tastes
Yeah I've been shredding a little bit
Like trying to just play Fred again every now and then
When I'm in the car and just turning it down
Because I'm just not a fan
But he hasn't even featured
Such is your love for Celine Dion
I know
So what was your top song, Daniel Webby?
My top song was a man by the name of Stephen Wilson Jr
and a song is called I'm a song
The Best Song Ever
I'm a word that will get you
He's a country artist
He's not very well known in New Zealand or worldwide at the moment
He's just one best new artist I think
At a like country music awards
He is going to be everywhere next year I reckon
He's incredible
He was a songwriter in Nashville for a long time
For other artists
Me and you are very different
Mine's Mayor Hawthorne
And you're like, who the hell is that?
He's a guy that's kind of like a drinking playlist
And he's the first artist at the start of this drinking playlist
Which probably says a lot
Just that non-offensive background.
Do you want another beer?
Yeah, go on then.
Classic.
My top song, look, I feel like I need to, like, say my other top five so that you think I'm cool.
I could have done that.
I've got a cool two, three, four, five.
Okay, we'll just slot for you.
Don't forget I have a four-year-old son.
Okay.
This is one mine is.
No.
Wrong.
Oh, is that what you, is that the one you gave me?
is at number two, but actually number one is...
Is this for Mwana 2?
Who are you? Who are you going to be?
You're going to, you're going to, make your dance to read.
Come on a, Moana.
Is this from Moana 2?
Can I get her?
I never seen it.
Ju-hoo.
Moana 2's just the same story as the first one.
Exactly.
So as I saw the trailer.
I was like, okay, so you changed nothing except maybe the songs.
Come on, Rosamata Feo is in the second one.
She is a legend.
Okay, let's go listening.
age because I feel like there's a big
difference between us three. Yeah.
Okay, I'll go first because I think I'm probably
the youngest. I should be flating with my musical choices.
I'm 27.
Nice, bad on 29. Okay.
Only because
Moana has brought my age down.
All right, we're coming up next.
No, what's yours, Daniel,
because I know you aren't in the 20th.
Maybe the 40s.
50s?
Sorry, so what did you say?
71 was it?
Seventy-one.
Yeah.
Seventy-one.
Okay.
Yeah.
So my top song was what I said before.
My second favorite song was Celine Dion.
My third favorite song was Define Gravity.
My fourth favorite song was The Eagles.
Oh, my God.
That's so sad.
I love you, Dan.
A bit of Pink Floyd in there as well for all the oldies.
That's cool.
No one would fine Dan, Spotify, rap, playlist.
He's probably an announcer on the edge.
Breakfast announcer on the edge.
It's like the listenership, it's like the listening playlist of a gay stoner that likes musical theatre.
That's kind of what it is.
I want to hang out with that person.
Yeah, he sounds awesome.
Yeah, and his parents own a retirement home, so he just lives there, gets free rent.
That's not it is.
He's like the DJ at the retirement home.
That would be a great premise for a movie, don't you think?
Yeah.
Just like the king.
His parents, he's a gay stoner who loves musical theatre,
and his parents own a retirement home, and he lives with all the oldies,
and he, like, helps him get up to know.
good and stuff.
Let's get our heads together
right the script.
Hey, I'm...
Hey, I helped.
Wait, cut me out.
You're the lead role.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
Okay.
Stoner.
But I've never smoked weed in my life.
No, but he takes his top off a lot, so it's fine.
All right, Dan got it.
Clint Meg and Dan.
The Edge Breakfast.
Clint Megan Dan with Ash London.
Every call it gives.
Yeah, really cool.
Just being able to have a show
where we give people the opportunity
to donate to an incredible cause
that gets presents under a Christmas tree for kids
that currently won't be having that reality
because there are a lot of kids on a wait list
and they're waiting for the donations to come in
so that the Kindness Collective can send an email to their parents
and say, hey, you can come through the store tomorrow.
You can come through the store next week.
And as Sarah said from the Kindness Collective before,
she said the kids will never know that it was donated
because it looks like the parents have done it.
And that's the coolest thing about this charity.
And Katie is one of those moms who thank you.
She did get that email and said, hey, you can come through the Christmas Joy Store.
What a relief that must have been for you, Katie, because you've got seven kids, is that right?
Eight, actually.
Oh, my goodness.
Once you go past five, you lose count.
What's the age bracket?
What's the oldest and the youngest?
The age range is from one to 14.
Wow.
Well, that's a lot of.
Predominantly girls, a couple of boys in the make.
Did you always want to have a big family?
Yes, but I think maybe a couple more extra than that.
come along.
Yes.
Right. Wow.
And Katie, you yesterday went through the store.
Yes, I did.
The last two years, I've faced hardship like I haven't before, and it was really difficult.
I'm not usually disorganized.
Last year, I was panicking around the 23rd, 24th, with not a lot of money to spare.
It was a highly stressful time, and bills were the priority.
So it was just such a relief to experience what I did yesterday, but it was really tough time last year.
When you enter the store, it's beautifully set up.
Everyone is so friendly.
It's such positive vibe.
in there and they give you a trolley to fill
and an allocation of presents you can choose
and it's quite a generous amount as well
and they've got a beautiful range of items from Barbie dolls
we saw some Ninja Turtles yesterday
some Star Wars, some Legos
some Pooka Pooka lots of books
and a huge range of treats and sweets
and kai products at the end as well
so you literally I actually walked out with two trolleys
fill because of the amount of children I have
and my children were super special
spoiled. So I know it's for people facing hardship, but they really do spoil your children.
They don't just give you stuff just to get by. They literally, this year, have made my children
have a really positive experience. And we're truly grateful.
Good idea, darling. You're an incredible mama, and we're wishing you the happiest Christmas
to you and your beautiful fun. I love you, darling. Thank you. Thanks, Katie. How amazing,
to have eight children and know that you can get presents for all of them. And so far this morning,
not counting the donations we've had before today,
well over 200 kids are getting a Christmas
that otherwise would it be because of you guys.
I'm getting up, up, up in the booth.
Sorry, you guys got an updated update.
We've got Sarah from the Kindest Collective in the booth.
She's almost working as a radio producer.
Now she's volunteering for us.
Guys, this is incredible.
I want to do this every day.
On our other page straight to our website as well,
we've had about two and a half green come through this morning as well.
That's all saying people listening to the edge,
you're amazing, amazing audience.
You guys blow us away.
You're the best.
So that's like, you know, $7,000 just this morning for me, guys.
Wait, we're not even halfway through the show yet.
And that's not counting the donations that you guys sent through earlier in the way.
I didn't want to say $10,000 as a target.
It feels like $10,000 is a very reachable goal now.
We can definitely reach that hopefully by the end of the show.
It's amazing.
How good I?
Blown us away, yes.
And remember, you can donate whatever you can afford, whether that be $100,
whether that be just $5, the price of your morning coffee this morning.
And I think it's really cool to hear where your money is going,
like to people like Katie, who's a mother of eight children.
Can you imagine?
Anyone with kids right now is going, like just the thought of it,
like they shiver down the back of your spine.
Like, power to you, Katie, that's incredible.
And I imagine it's the best at Christmas, having that huge family.
Your dream, just the sound of children running around.
There are so many more stories like that.
Ash is going to read out some of the stories from people who have been nominated
and that are sitting on a wait list.
And if you donate, then these people,
can actually have a Christmas that they didn't get last year
so we'll go through some of those coming up next.
Clint, Meg and Dan.
Oh, my gosh.
Every caller gives raising money for the Christmas Joy Store.
There are a lot of families doing it tough around this time of year
and there are kids that are unaware
that they will at this stage not have presents under their Christmas tree
but the more money we raised this morning,
the more families will come off that wait list
and the more kids wake up Christmas morning.
Yay.
And yeah, presents on wrap.
Sarah is the brains of the heart behind the kindness collected.
Now, you have got so many people on the waitlist still.
We'd love to hear about one Fano in particular,
or one family who maybe have a bit of a story
and we really want to get off the wait list.
Yeah, without going into too much detail
to protect people's privacy,
this Fano of five lost a child at Christmas.
And so that nomination has just come through
and we'd really love to be able to take them off the wait list.
There's another three babies, so.
Okay, so how much money do we need to get them off the wait list?
60 bucks, which I know was a lot of money.
Absolutely, but I went 100 the edge, or shoot us a text on 3, 3, 4, 3, $60.
I mean, I cannot imagine any day of the year,
that is the worst thing that could happen to in your whole life.
Yeah, let's, it's, yeah.
And it's not often you donate to a charity
and you can see the tangible effect it's going to have,
you know as well.
So this way you can help this particular family right now.
Yeah.
0800 The Edge or shoot us a text on 3343.
It is one of those things that you just think, you know, like we're also lucky
and we think Christmas time.
It's a time of joy, happiness.
Nothing bad can happen at Christmas time.
But this is absolute proof that it absolutely can.
Shirel has called through on 0800 the Edge.
Good morning, Shirel.
Good morning.
Good morning.
So will you take that $60?
and help out this family.
Yes, I will.
You are a legend.
Thank you, Sherelle.
We love you, darling.
Thanks, Cheryl.
You're so, so much.
And Sherell, the reality of, I mean, you pay your 60 bucks
and then you get on with your day,
the reality is that email now gets sent to that family.
And then they organise a day, Sarah, which, I mean,
how long does it normally take from them getting taken off the wait list
to getting into the Joy Store?
I've just sent the email now.
I've done Terry.
Thank you so much.
And then so then they end up rocking up to the location,
out South Auckland
and then get to wander through
and just fill this trolley
and it's called up on 0800
the edge Brandon
also wants to sponsor another family
Good morning Brandon
Thank you so much for your 60 bucks
No problem at all
Happy to do it
Good morning, we love you
Thank you Brian Merry Christmas
You too, have a good one guys
Now these kids are going to have
Lego under the Christmas tree
Like all the best brands as well
It's such cool stuff
For you, Sarah, it's probably a, I don't want to,
I can't think of a better phrase than double-edged sword,
but it's because, yes, you get to see the best side of humanity like this,
but then you also are reading these stories every day as well,
and it must be heartbreaking to hear how many people are doing it tough
because your laptop is full of people on a wait list right now.
Yeah, it's really hard.
Like we wish every day we didn't have to exist
and everybody had what they need to live a full and happy life.
And then we didn't need this at Christmas.
Chelsea's just called through.
Chelsea, how much would you like to donate this morning?
$100, please.
That's a family of five off the wait list.
I've literally got one way.
Chelsea, here's the family you've just taken off the wait list.
Sarah's got it.
They're a final of five and have been affected by domestic violence for a really, really long time.
Yeah, so.
Amazing.
Thank you, Charles.
Food on the table, presents under the tree.
God bless you, Chelsea.
That's awesome.
That's so cool.
So great.
You can text the word give to 3343.
there's a video of Dan and I going through the joy store yesterday
so you can get an idea as to what it looks like.
It was how it works.
It was amazing.
It was so much fun.
Everybody was so happy.
And a lot of the people that work there as well are volunteers.
So they're giving up their time to bring joy to other people.
It's just an incredible cause.
The very best of us.
Best of the humans banding together to help.
It's just incredible.
Only halfway through the show and we'll have an update as to how many kids have been
taken off that wait list.
Laura's just texted through.
She doesn't want to come on the radio,
but she's donating three.
$100, Laura.
Thank you.
Give to 3-3-4-3 is how you do that.
Thank you, Laura.
We love you, darling.
We'll give you an update next.
The Clint Meg and Dan podcast.
The Edge.
1K.E.Z.
Mood.
Practice makes perfect.
And now you can play anytime online.
All thanks to Nova's glass.
A grand in the hand
if you can give us 10 answers in 30 seconds.
You can pass no repeated answers.
Though, please.
Oh, and also, we're just talking as a show
because we're raising a lot of money to get kids off
the wait list for the Christmas Joy Store.
We've decided, obviously, if you get 10 answers, you win the thousand bucks.
For every correct answer you get, we as a show, we'll donate 100 bucks.
Absolutely.
No pressure, though, if you really end up being real bad at it.
Hey, you know what?
We'll still donate.
We'll still donate.
Yeah, we will.
But come on, we're trying to motivate you this morning.
I can't even see who's playing because my screen is full of so many people texting through to donate,
calling through to donate, you guys are the best.
Thank you, Viv. She's just donated a hundred bucks.
She says, thanks for making a difference. And thank you, Viv.
All right. Is it Chelsea?
We're going to go to...
Let's go...
Okay, let's go to Chelsea. Morning, Chelsea.
Morning?
Okay, would you like to play?
Sure.
Okay, easy money. You've already donated $100 by the way.
You've already given the good...
Thank you. Maybe the universe will reward you for your kindness.
Okay, here we go.
Okay, Chelsea.
My name is Kelsey.
Kelsey.
Kelsey.
Oh, swim the ocean for you.
Kelsey, baby.
Yeah, gotcha.
All right.
Your letter today is M, M for Merry Christmas.
Are you ready to go?
Okay.
Beginning with M, can I please have a fruit?
Mango.
A zoo animal.
Monkey.
A school subject.
Me.
A type of chocolate.
Morrow.
A household chore.
Mopping.
A TV show.
Malcolm in the middle.
Something you plug into a PowerPoint.
Oh, my charger.
Something you'd find in a bedroom.
Oh, magazine.
My goodness.
Good, no, well, babe.
Oh, man, you...
Oh, you have emptied out our pockets.
We are donating $800.
Wow, congratulations.
That was incredible.
You didn't leave with the grand.
but because you played so well, yeah, $800, go into the kindness collective.
And including your $100, that's $900.
Yeah, well, he'll go, Charles.
Yeah, exactly.
Come on, Charles.
That's got to feel like that.
That's Kelsey, by the way.
Can I please update to him a $200 donation and we'll make it $1,000?
There you go.
You are amazing.
Hey, you know what?
We're going to change your name to Kelsey for that.
Yeah.
Well, darn.
Thank you so much.
No longer Chelsea in our books.
Kelsey, the kind.
Yeah.
Thank you, darling.
200 bucks from Kelsey plus another 800 from us.
That's another thousand going to the kindness collected this morning.
Good on you, darling.
Clint Megan Dan.
Lesh goal.
It has been a hell of a morning this morning.
The Edge Breakfast.
Clint Megan Dan with Ash London.
Every caller gives.
Every caller gives.
And every caller has given.
My goodness, you guys are generous.
Such a joy.
It was a fun idea that happened behind the scenes probably a week or two ago.
We'll take you back to our first conversation with Sarah.
who runs the Kindness Collective.
She is in studio with us at the moment.
But just before we do that,
there are people desperate to give.
Yeah, Bonnie, good morning.
How much would you like to pledge
to the Kindest Collective this morning?
Good morning.
We'd like to give $40 my daughter and I.
Yay.
What's your daughter's name, Bonnie?
What do you say?
What do you say, Willow?
Hi.
Willow.
Hi, Willow.
Thank you for being so generous.
That is two kids who will have Christmas presents
that otherwise wouldn't have had any.
You guys are amazing.
We're so grateful.
Thank you so much.
And Karen, good morning.
Oh, good morning.
How much would you like to donate?
$100.
Come on, man.
Five kids.
It's amazing.
See, hey, Karen?
She's trying to...
She's trying to...
Write the name.
Karen's a good people, too.
We love you.
Max and Karen are beautiful.
That's just wonderful.
Guys, appreciate you so much.
That's awesome.
Yeah, when Sarah was in here...
Was it earlier this week?
Sarah was it last week?
Last week.
Last week, all right, we were talking to you about the incredible work that you do
and probably my first experience with hanging out with you and finding out what you do.
Take a listen.
The thing that really has never left me, I was saying to you,
there's got to be so much need.
And I remember you saying, yeah, Clint, have a look.
This is the people that are on a wait list right now because you can't help everybody.
I wish I could.
I donated to the charity and you and I sat there and we just read people's stories.
And we were like, yep, take them off the wait list.
Literally click the button and you said,
they're going to get an email later today saying that they are off the wait list
and that next week they can come and pick up food and presents for their children.
It was addictive.
So, well, 12 years ago we started with Christmas
just for a small number of kids and the refuge that we work with.
It was 43 kids.
And last year it was 20,109, so it's kind of jumped a little bit.
The Joy Store gives parents the opportunity to come in and choose gifts.
And then we've also got a social supermarket this year
called Tea Makati Harikua
and it's beautiful and there's so much food
and it's amazing.
So people will get all the food for Christmas Day
and the week after.
And then we also do nationwide toy deliveries
in 91 different cities and towns across 16 regions.
It's all about the dignity of choice for us.
I love that.
I just want to stop down here to say that.
The dignity of choice because I think,
sorry, cry like.
dignity is something that people are so robbed of
when they don't have the funds
and I think that is the most heartbreaking for.
So I was nominated to be a shopper at the Joy Store
for my four children
and in March this year I had to resign for my position
because one of my children was diagnosed
with some really complex medical needs.
It was a big change from working full-time to not at all.
Everybody is really just one accident
or one life change away from everything being up
in the air.
It's like a wonderland.
It's just kind of magical to be on the other foot
and leading to be able to receive that.
Support has been humbling.
People are so generous
and companies have been so generous
to make something like the Joy Store.
I could never even imagine that there was a thing like the Joy Store.
Tell us about your beautiful seven-year-old girl.
Yeah, we were just driving to school
and the kindness collector's interview came on.
And just listen to this.
I want you to hear about this.
A few minutes later,
said, oh, mommy, what's 20 plus 20 plus 20?
We added it up, and she said, 100.
My began, she said, I want to give my Christmas money and get five kids toys.
Darling.
My ash is going to be a mess.
You've done something right there, Mal.
Yeah, well, he is hoping.
I mean, I started sobbing in the car, and she said, why are you crying?
She's like, mum, we can keep it if we need it.
And it was just, I've never experienced anything like it.
It's pretty much like as a child you envision a centre in the North Pole.
They've pretty much got that going on in Oda Hoohoo with The Kindness Collective.
Ash has got a bit of an update for us.
What a journey.
This morning you guys have donated.
It's pretty big.
I can't believe it.
$11,500,000.
Wow.
That's 550 kids taking care of this Christmas.
We never dreamed that we'd get to this point,
and there's more people coming through right now.
Chrissy, how much would you like to pledge?
Good morning.
I would like to pledge $50 on behalf of my daughter, Akaya.
Yes.
Thank you, darling.
We love you.
Thanks, Akaya.
And Taylor, good morning.
Good morning.
Morning, Taylor.
Hi, I want to do Posey Don't.
This morning, please.
First one I want to do from my daughter and I
of $100.
Amazing.
And then I want to do a $200 donation
from my business,
breeze, spit roast and catering in Fangere.
That is amazing.
Thank you.
Hey, and make sure, like, Taylor
and everyone else's saying,
keep your receipts as well.
You'll get given a receipt
from the kindness collective
because they're a registered charity.
You get a third of it all back
at the end of March.
You just submit your donation receipts.
And the government's got to give a third
it all back?
It's incredible.
Samantha's on the line.
Samantha, I think your son wants to be a little generous this morning.
Yes, he does.
What's his name and how old is he?
His name's Archie.
He's six years old.
Oh, Archie.
And how much would Archie like to donate?
He would like to donate $100.
Geez, his original sister-R-A-R-Chi.
Wow, make sure he calls his tax return.
Yeah, yeah, if he wants to get a good of it back in March.
It's so cool when a kid
Donates as well
You know what I think as a parent as well
To an 8 and 10 year old
You're doing something really
Cool Samantha
Where you're instilling that generosity
And how it is better to give them to receive
At such a young age
So hopefully little Archie carries that on
Throughout his whole adult life
And he'll benefit so much from that
Can we have some more stories of people
That are on the wait list soon
Because I love hearing those stories
And they're tangible people that we can help
I've got one right here
This is someone who went through last year
to give you an idea.
I just, this person said,
I just need to say a huge thank you to all of you.
I came in yesterday for my babies,
and it was my first time out of the hospital in three weeks straight.
It was amazing.
To have a special helper gifted beautiful, big yellow squish mellow
for my six-year-old who's currently undergoing treatment in Starship,
it was amazing.
It's her favourite colour.
We're in hospital for Christmas,
and I just couldn't even wrap my head around what to do,
and you have all helped in ways you cannot imagine.
That's a mum of two.
Can you even imagine Christmas presents
would be the last thing on your mind
when your baby is sick
and these are the kinds of people
that we're getting to help.
It's amazing.
We love you, thank you.
We'll have more of those stories
between now and 10 o'clock
and if you want to donate
just text Give to 3343.
You'll also see the video
of what the joystall actually
as Dan and I went through yesterday
as a pretend married couple of two children.
God, we fought a little bit.
What were your kids called?
What were your kids called?
But we would love.
Our love carried us through.
Johnny and Sarah Q.
I mean, I would have been speaking something to be more creative from you guys, and that's fine.
Dan accused me of forcing my passions onto the little baby Sarah because I bought her a football.
He's like, let her choose her own sport.
Maybe she wants a horse.
Clint Megan Dan.
Let's go.
The Edge Breakfast.
Clint Megan Dan with Ash London.
Every call it gives.
Trying to raise as much money as we can if you've just tuned in for the Christmas Joy Store,
getting kids off the wait list and getting presents under their tree this year.
Can I just say this is quickly becoming the favourite show I've ever done?
It's so fun.
It's so cool.
Do you want to take a look back
just as to some of the people
who have called this morning and donated?
I know we've seen all the people
that have quietly done it by text and that as well
but we cannot thank you enough.
Oh, I've got three grandkids
and what world can we not have Christmas for our kids?
Exactly right.
Oh, donate $150.
Wow.
What a man, Martin.
Good morning, Brandon.
Thank you so much for your 60 bucks.
No problem.
at all. Happy to do it. Chelsea, how much would you like
to donate this morning? $100 please.
That's a family of five off the wait list.
Will you take that $60 and help out this family?
Yes, I will.
Beautiful. Thank you, Cheryl. We love you, darling.
Laura's just texted through. She doesn't want to come on the radio, but she's
donating $300.
Laura, thank you. You guys have taken
151 children off the wait list. That means
151.
Kiwi kids are going to have presents
under the Christmas tree this Christmas.
And it's way more than that now.
The calls keep coming.
Yeah.
Jono, good morning.
Gidey, how are you?
Gidey, Johno, bloody good, bro.
Merry Christmas.
Like the listener before.
Merry Christmas.
You're going to make two donations this morning.
Yes, we are.
My kids decided this year, instead of buying each other presents,
they would like to donate $100.
What's it?
Ash is gone again.
Oh, that's another hundred bucks out of my pocket every time Ash cries.
Yeah.
So, good on you, Jono.
And every year I always give my clients a little thank you.
And instead of doing that this year, we're going to donate $500 from Altaya Architects.
Amazing.
Thank you so much, Johnny.
Thank you so much.
How much that means to these families.
Johno, you've got to text the word kind to 3343 and show your kids what the joy store actually looks like.
And I went through it yesterday.
So they can really tangibly see.
what that money is doing
because it's just such an investment as well
into your kids to instill this generous
like heart within them.
So that's so cool, man.
What is it, Altai Architects?
Altai Architects, a new plumber.
Mate, if you need an architect, you know where to go.
Thank you so.
Jono, Jono, you keep that receipt for your, you know,
tax rebate, right?
Another shout out to Edward, Georgie, Nicholas, Lauren, Sophie and Heath.
They don't need, no donating $500.
The whole families are getting behind this, and it doesn't have to be that much.
If you can just donate $5 this morning, that will make a difference as well.
Sarah, who started the Kindness Collective, I guess, to your own admission,
because you're going through a tough time yourself.
And Sarah, you're saying that it's, when you start thinking outside of yourself,
it almost like pulls you out of this depressive state
because it's really hard to be sad when you're seeing so much joy that you bring into other people.
And that was 12 years ago.
What's it like now?
hearing like people invest into your passion and your vision
that you've been building for the last decade.
There are so many moments that are just pinch me moments, right?
Like, wow, how did this end up here?
But it's not because of me.
It's because of thousands of people across the country
who are just beautiful humans.
It's, you know, it's amazing.
In the first year that you did this,
how many people did you help?
We started by doing like mobile food drives,
myself and my husband would like drive around and pick up cans from our cupboards and from our friends' cupboards and things.
And then we did Christmas for our refuge final and there was 43 kids in the first year.
And what's it looking like this year?
I think we're going to, if it keeps going like this, I think we will hit 20,000 again.
If it keeps going like this.
Is that the biggest year you've ever had 20,000 kids?
Last year was 20,109 children across the country.
Yeah, Ila has called up.
I like, I don't know how to get.
Oh, yeah.
Ely, you're nine years old.
Yeah.
Good morning, darling.
Could get $100 really again.
She's going to cry.
Would you like to make a donation this morning, Eila?
Yes, please.
And how much would you like to give, darling?
$20.
Oh, that is so much money, Illa.
Where did you get $20 from, babe?
Christmas and my birthday.
Isla, did you know that there's another child out there,
maybe possibly the same age as you,
that you have helped have a Christmas this year
that wasn't going to have one?
You're amazing.
Thank you.
So, Ila, you remember when you're opening your presents on Christmas Day,
there's another little kid that you don't know
that's also going to be opening up presents.
Thanks to you, all right?
Yeah.
You're a good person, I like.
Isla's mama and papa have done very much.
Do you know what I'm...
Oh, you've got Sarah.
It's probably hard to get Sarah crying.
It's going to be broke by the end of the show.
He's got a hundred bucks every time someone's crying.
It's getting up there.
Also, where are my kids at?
Where are they?
Oh, my little Isla's nine.
What are my kids up to?
Oh, man, what a moment.
You guys are the best.
Hey, also, I've just heard word as well.
The Edge Boss has been inspired.
And he said that he'll match every on-ear donation next.
So if you want to donate, give us a call, 0-800-the-Eage.
only a donation that we take next, he's
going to match a dollar for dollar. So
rinse him of all his cash if we were going to donate, do it
now. And big love to Atahua
consulting. I hope I said that right.
A $1,000
donation.
Wow.
Get in. Get in.
Oh man.
Somebody else's text story saying I've never listened to an entire
breakfast show until this morning. Goosebumps and tears
are all morning. It's just we all want to be a part of
something great and that's kind of why we're all
celebrating you, Sarah. It's like I know there are
980 volunteers that help you
but we all just needed someone
to start it and do the work
and then it's easier for us to jump on board
so I mean jumping on board and donating is the easy part
you know what you're doing behind the scenes is the tough stuff
so thank you for giving us an opportunity
to invest into people's lives at Christmas it's cool
and we're not done yet
no man hour and a half to go
keep it going all right let's get the boss's money out of him
he'll match dollar for dollar all the on-air donations
The Clint Meg and Dan podcast.
Every caller gives.
And so many people have an incredible amount of kids who are now off the wait list
and we'll be opening presents on Christmas Day.
Yeah, 1250 kids have been taken off the wait list.
Thanks to you guys.
I'll be getting presents this Christmas.
We've got some examples of these are messages from real people who have been through the Joy Store.
This is a dad of three.
He said, man, you guys are awesome.
Thank you for picking me and my Fano today for this amazing initiative.
After being homeless for 10 months and losing everything,
this was the pick-me-up I needed for me and my Tamburiki.
The energy was amazing.
You can feel the genuine vibes from everyone.
I'm grateful and appreciative.
Another mum of three, she said,
she went through the store and she said,
I keep asking them if it was okay to have that toy.
I was not used to something like that.
I cried in my car because of the kindness.
You've all given me and my kids and other fun or two.
It's a mom of three kids.
These are the kinds of families that we're helping this morning,
the families that are just like us.
And Sarah, obviously, you've been in the studio all morning
from the kindness collective.
We've had a few messages of people that would like to get on the list this morning that are struggling this Christmas.
How do they do it?
So nominations are on hold at the moment just because of the huge, huge weight list.
But people can also, if they check our website again on Sunday, we should be able to get through some of those wait lists.
So it's kindness.org.n.z forward slash Christmas joy store.
Yeah. Kindness.org.org.nz forward slash Christmas joystoy.
One thing we talked about before you arrived this morning, Sarah,
was that the attention to detail
with everything that you're doing with the Christmas Joy Store.
A couple years ago when I went through for the first time
with a bunch of other volunteers,
we all had a bit of a meeting before we actually went into the Joy Store
because you were talking to us about the type of language
that you wanted us to use
and other types of language you want us to stay away from
because it was all about making parents feel empowered
and not any sort of shame whatsoever.
and the dignity of choice and all those things.
And I was like, wow, she's really thought of everything.
You want everyone's experience when they go through
to be greater than they had hoped it would be.
Absolutely.
The most important part of the joy store
as we do our briefings in the morning
and the afternoon when they're volunteers
and we tell them, like, it's so important
that your face and your body language,
like you treat people with so much kindness and dignity.
And we want people to feel like they're shopping at Harrods.
It's so cheap.
It's red carpet. It's very cheap.
I've never had more.
hugs than when I was there yesterday and one's such a joy.
Just quickly before we move on,
eight-year-old Pierre joins us on 0800 the Edge.
Morning, Pia.
Good morning.
Pierre, what are you doing?
It's 9 o'clock.
You're supposed to be in school already.
I'm not going to say.
Would you like to make a donation this morning,
Pia, for other kids who haven't got presents this Christmas?
Yes, please.
Oh, how much would you like to give today?
Can I please give $20?
Are you sure with those manners?
Yes, you can.
That's so generous.
Thank you, Pia.
So, Pia, just remember when you're opening your presents on Christmas Day,
there's another little child somewhere that's also going to be opening up presents because of you.
Yeah.
That's pretty cool.
Thank you, Pia.
And Tess, $100 from you as well.
Yes, it's my birthday on Christmas Day, so I want to share some of that love.
Good on your bag.
Thank you.
Happy birthday.
And $100 is five kids.
Well, hey, Tess.
What's it like?
having a birthday on Christmas.
Is it as bad as everyone makes it sound like it's horrible,
but I love it.
I get to be with my family always on my birthday and just a bit.
Everyone's celebrating me on one day.
Come on.
Yeah.
Move over baby Jesus.
Yeah.
That's in town.
Tears and baby Jesus.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You got to say sweet first.
I'm going to do that.
Sweet baby Jesus.
Holy shit.
You made it the whole way through.
If you want more.
or find them on Instagram at Edge Breakfast.
See you tomorrow.
And then if that's not enough,
check out our only fans, podcast that is.
