Starting point is 00:00:00 This is a podcast from Rover. If this podcast was a person, it would be banned from family gatherings. Oh, piss off, Uncle John. This is the Clint Meg and Dan podcast. Morning. Clint Meg and Dan, Clint is still away. Meg Sawway. I know.
Starting point is 00:00:16 Just the boys again. The boys. But I have it on Good All right. I know that Clint will be back tomorrow. And hopefully Meg as well. Be careful because I was saying that as well. I know. Yes.
Starting point is 00:00:24 Yes. But I have privy information. Just don't promise. Clint has only got a certificate, a medical certificate. till tomorrow. So if he's away again tomorrow, he's illegally away. And that's a fireable offence. He's in trouble then.
Starting point is 00:00:38 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Big show lined up today. In fact, I don't know if we've ever had this before. We're going to be joined by a dame. Dame Sophie Pascoe is coming into the studio to talk about the Commonwealth Games, which I didn't know this. They start this week. That's crazy that we don't know about that, eh? That's not, like, market at all.
Starting point is 00:00:55 And I know, like, the Commonwealth Games are kind of like the four men's Olympics, aren't they? Oh, you can't be. Oh, can't you? You can't say that. Oh, right. Oh, okay. Well, you said it now, so, yeah. I know what you mean, though.
Starting point is 00:01:08 Yeah, but you know what I mean? Like, they're not as popular, but they're still great. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So we'll talk about that with Sophie Pascoe later on this morning. Clint, Meg and Dan. Oh, oh my gosh. If you missed it, we also announced this.
Starting point is 00:01:22 You've heard of Love Island? Heartbreak Island. Even Temptation Island. But skip the heartbeat and the drama. The New Island is on its way. Long-distance Bessie Island. Fiji! Reunite with your long-distance bestie on a tropical island getaway.
Starting point is 00:01:36 No work. No cancelled plans. No face-times. Just you. Your bestie. Cocktails and a month's worth of catch-ups in just one epic week from the 15th to the 19th of October. Get returned flights to Fiji. Island accommodation.
Starting point is 00:01:51 A three-day hospitality package. Activities and full beach vibes on the newly renovated Beachcoma Island from just 2,900 bucks. Strictly limited availability. Packages on sale Friday 8 a.m. Thanks to Duck Horse events. Seeing your messy with the edge. Just hits.
Starting point is 00:02:07 Wow. Now I know it's killing Meg that she's not here because this is Meg's baby. You know, like she's organized essentially from the ground up with the help of Duck Horse events and a whole load of people around here. So there's been a lot of meetings
Starting point is 00:02:18 happening behind the scenes. The thing that is, it's not stressing me out, but it is concerning me as the activities. Oh, yeah. Because it says in that thing there, it's like all the staff like you get accommodation food
Starting point is 00:02:30 or drinks packages where I. And then there's like activities. Very vague. And it says I'm just reading a thing, activities with Clint Meg and Dan. So where I think it's going to be left up to us to organize the activities. Oh my God, jump jam.
Starting point is 00:02:44 And I get stressed when I'm like, I'm not a good entertainer when it comes to like having people over. Like if we have people over at our house for like a dinner or something, the pressure gets to me, the pressure of entertaining. I've been, I had a sleep over at your house once. And I was stressing, wasn't I? No, I thought you did very well to keep us entertained. But I guess you're going to think of, like, what activity would you be?
Starting point is 00:03:04 That sounds really, the fact that you were like, I had a sleep over your house and you kept me entertained. There was a whole bunch of us. It was all boys. That's how Cal got a job at the edge. You're a thing. But, like, you think of Fiji. It's like, the activity's like snorkeling or like, you know. I don't think I'd be very good at leading a snorkeling swing.
Starting point is 00:03:26 And how do you lead that? Anyway, come on, guys. Come on guys. Yeah. in the water? Snorkels in? Follow me! No. Yeah, so I think we could do snorkeling.
Starting point is 00:03:34 I think there's a chance of maybe like some sort of... Bushwalk? Ziplines over there? Ziplining? Yeah, ziplining would be... I love ziplining. I feel like, to be fair, a lot of the activities you'd want to do was just sit in there and piss up, really. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:03:48 So if you're the type of person that has a best mate that lives in another city from you, maybe they live in Australia or even, there is packages for that as well, you can text the keyword book. Bestie, B-E-T-I-E to 33-4-3, and we'll fire back all the information you need, and I think the packages obviously start from under $3,000 for a whole, nearly a week away at Beachcomber Island with Clint Meg and myself, so with activities.
Starting point is 00:04:12 That's the big sell. Yeah, that is the big sell. And those activities will be snorkeling and bushwalks. Clint Meg and Dan. Let's go! Clint Meg and Dan, uh, Meg's away sick. Clint's away sick, supposedly. Yeah, well, we know Meg's sick.
Starting point is 00:04:27 We know Meg's sick. We messaged to her. I think hopefully she'll be back tomorrow as well. Clint says he's ill. But we decided to call him yesterday on the Overtinkers podcast. If you want to listen, it's the other podcast we do alongside this one. You can text podcast to 33433. Good times.
Starting point is 00:04:45 And yeah, we called Clint yesterday. And it was quite telling, wasn't it? Should we pretend to be the doctor? Or are you a nurse? I'll be a nurse. Yeah. Hello? Hi, hi, is that Clinton?
Starting point is 00:04:57 Yes, there's Clinton. Hi, Clinton. It's just your nurse here. Ivana Humplot. How are you? Oh, hi, sorry. I didn't catch your name. It's her?
Starting point is 00:05:07 Havana. My name doesn't matter. Here's the thing. We're just bringing to just a follow up on your, you were at the doctor before, were you? Yes, I was. Yes, and what was the doctor's name? Dr. Humplot.
Starting point is 00:05:24 No, Clint, now let's not bit around the bush. You don't sound. sick if I'm honest. You sound like you could easily be at work. Oh, there was a cough. I was just talking to my mom because mom wants to know what's wrong with me. Oh, of course she bloody does. What'd you say? Nothing? Because it sounds like you've got abs you, you sound like you're firing on all cylinders. Hold on. It's the Edge Studio calling me. So I'll just find out what they want. Oh, yeah, well, we just wanted to know if you were actually sick, and it sounds like you're not.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Well, you don't sound like a real doctor. No, well, I'm not. That was the whole thing, but we got you. Hookline and sinker. Hey, good for you, though. Have you going to impersonate a doctor? Good for you doing a lady doctor. That's very...
Starting point is 00:06:13 No, she was a nurse. That was not my finest moment, if I'm honest. But he'll be pleased to know that Clint did get a doctor certificate, and he's back tomorrow, Thursday. Well, supposedly. Yeah. And if you want to listen to the full Overthinkers podcast, then get even looser than that, surprisingly, text podcast to 3343. Next, though, first quarter of the day. Oh, give us a call.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Oh, 800 the Edge. Just tell us what's going on. Yeah, it could be anything. You could be a first caller ever. It's first time you called a radio station or you could be an old dab hand. Someone that's called many, many times before. 0800 the Edge. Clint, Megan Dan.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Stinky B. First call of the day. First call of the day. Oliver joins us on 0,800. to the edge morning, Ollie? Morning. How are you guys? Yeah, bloody good.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Now we're talking to you. Now, Oliver, you're on your way to uni. You're studying aviation. So you're studying to be a pilot? Yes. So are you, let me guess. Have you started flying yet, like doing solos and stuff? I have.
Starting point is 00:07:18 It's a lot of fun, but gosh, it's a lot of very. Yeah, I can imagine. Now, let me guess. I'm going to throw out three types of play. and you can tell me if you're flying one of them. I'm guessing it's either a Cessna, a Tomahawk or a Tetnam, nerd. You were back on, the Cessna. Oh, yes, 152 or 162.
Starting point is 00:07:41 Oh, my God. No, no, no, it was right. 1-7-2. Oh, 172. Nice. Why don't know so much about planes? Because I wanted to be a pilot when I was younger, but I wasn't as rich as Oliver. Oliver, where are you studying?
Starting point is 00:07:55 No, no, no. There's been loads of this. Yeah. Well, that was my next question. So a student loan to be a pilot, because I remember when I was looking at it, was it around 80K to get your private pilots license. Is it still around that?
Starting point is 00:08:07 Yeah. It's going to be a long time to pay it off, but basically no fun. Yeah, cool. And so your dream is to be, I'm guessing, a commercial pilot flying for like any New Zealand or something like that? Yeah, that's the goal.
Starting point is 00:08:27 It's going to take me a couple years, but I'm, you know, get in there eventually. Good on you. And you're only 21. See, we're full life ahead of you. Oliver, are you studying at the Christchurch Aviation School? I'm up in Auckland. I study out at Advo.
Starting point is 00:08:46 Oh, wow. I went to the Christchurch Aviation School for like a test flight in their little machine. I don't know what you call it. Simulator? That's the one. That's the one. And they were very impressed with me because I landed the plane safely first go. Wow, that is good.
Starting point is 00:09:03 You should become a pilot. You're in the wrong, bro. Give me in a plane. I can do it. Yeah. Well, thanks for calling through Oliver. Good luck for the rest of your journey. I know it's a long one to become a pilot,
Starting point is 00:09:11 but hopefully one day when we're flying Air New Zealand or Jet Star or something, you'll be up the front. And you can put us in first class. Yeah. You remember this call, Oliver? That would be cool. I really appreciate the show. I listen to the edge all day, every day.
Starting point is 00:09:28 I was stuck on three four months ago. And I'm stuck on those burgers, bro. Oh, wait, the vegan ones, the vegetarian ones. King one? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Wow. I've got a couple of vegan friends and they're like, oh my God, this is so, I have you to thank the act, guys, what you do on the show, right? Oh, thanks, Oliver. And you do say you've been listening all day 24-7, you should really be listening to air traffic control when you're flying, not the edge. But we'll give you a pass. So thanks for calling, bro. Have a good day, guys.
Starting point is 00:10:12 See you, you too, man. Wow, on a nice blow. Yeah, he's nice. And you know what, God, like, that isn't expensive. I hats off to anyone that's smart enough to fly as well because not only does it take a lot of money but also takes a lot of brains I had a flight simulator in my room once brilliant yeah it's as close as I'll get I think it's a little bit different
Starting point is 00:10:29 I don't think it is no it's real different I think the only difference is the cockpit's enclosed I think there's some other stuff we can agree to disagree Clint Meg and Dan Clint Megadaine Clint's a Meghaway but big guest in studio She's got 11 gold medals 7 silver medals one
Starting point is 00:10:47 bronze medal making her New Zealand's most successful Paralympian Dame Sophie Pascoe joins us in the studio. Good morning. Good morning. This is so exciting. So you are one of the star-studded cast presenting for the Commonwealth Games, which start this Friday. This Friday, early mornings. The alarm's going to go off at 3.30. Oh, it's at 4 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:11:10 Yeah. So I'm bracing myself for 10 days of that with the time zone difference. But it's so exciting. We've got incredible athletes. competing over 10 different sports over there. So, yeah, be ready to watch it on TV. Yeah, now before we obviously go balls deep into the Commonwealth Games, because I've got a lot of questions.
Starting point is 00:11:28 You've retired now, right? Like, do you mind if I ask how old you are? I'm 33. And you've, like, that must be an odd situation. Because obviously you're a Dame now, which is incredible. You're now a retired Paralympian. I mean, there's not much more you could achieve. right? How does it feel to be
Starting point is 00:11:49 retired? Well, I can't say I'm like fully retired You know, just... Yeah, not in an old people's home or anything like that yet. And I'm not just, you know, lazy on the beach with a cocktail of my hand. But I've got a two and a half year old boy now and he keeps me very busy.
Starting point is 00:12:06 But yeah, it's been quite a full life already. Yeah. It's crazy to think like that they're all sort of thrust into a high performance environment from 12 and then, yeah, you know, go for 20 odd years. at the highest level. Yeah, it is quite overwhelming to look back on it, to think it started very early.
Starting point is 00:12:24 That was my next question. Do you look back on it and do you, have you had time to sort of take stock of it all and go, man, I achieved a lot of stuff in like a short amount of time? Maybe though it probably seems like it was long for you. Yes, and I think children give perspective to that. Like having our boy has just gone,
Starting point is 00:12:41 oh my gosh, where does the time go? And then you look back on, oh my gosh, I had so much time when I was a swimmer. Yeah. Yeah, that's the thing when you have kids say, you're like, God, I really didn't take advantage of all the time I had before kids. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so tell us about the Commonwealth Games, because I obviously,
Starting point is 00:12:58 we all become experts in all types of sport, don't we when the Commonwealth Games are on. It's like that situation where you watch and you're like, hmm, windsurfing, now I'm a pro or gymnastics. What's your sport where you, obviously, you're a swimmer, but what's your sport where you're like, I could become a pro at that if I put my time into it? Well, actually, I did do this.
Starting point is 00:13:17 So I thought I could be a track athlete. Love a 100 metre sprint. And actually tried to dabble in that this year just once. Yeah. Yeah, no, not for me. I've realised actually how hard it is, okay? Yeah, you gave it a bash though. You gave it a bash.
Starting point is 00:13:34 And so what's the difference between the Commonwealth games and obviously the Olympics? The Olympics is like the full fat one where all the countries are involved. The Commonwealth is just Commonwealth countries, right? Correct. So Olympic, Paralympics, all the – nations in the world and then Commonwealth Games is off of the just the Commonwealth. This Commonwealth Games
Starting point is 00:13:53 is a little bit different. It's really stripped down Commonwealth Games due to Glasgow coming in last minute and hosting it. So there's only 10 sports. But we have an incredible bunch of athletes going over there. And you've got to think, I mean
Starting point is 00:14:08 the best of the best are still within side the Commonwealth Games. So we're going to see some really highlight sports. showcasing. The other thing around Coolmouth Games, it's the only sporting event in the world that's integrated with able-bodied athletes and Paralympic athletes. So that's the incredible part of it, that there's this real one-team operation going on as well. And so how can we watch it? I mean, not you're part of the team that is going to be bringing it to us?
Starting point is 00:14:36 Yes, so you can watch it on Sky. They've got nine channels. Nine channels. I know. Wow. And then we also have the highlights on TV3. That is awesome. How does that work with obviously you being, you know, a swimmer, you've tried track and stuff. Are there any sports that you're like... I didn't try track. She said... She gave it a bad. She went to the right. I don't try it. But like
Starting point is 00:14:57 when it comes to reporting it, is there any sport that you're like, oh, I don't know everything about this, or are you just pretty clued up on all of it? No, you have to do a lot of research. Yeah. And the amazing thing as well, actually the New Zealand team app have everyone racing and competing and their biographies on there.
Starting point is 00:15:12 So that's also another way to keep up to date with like the schedule and it obviously all the individuals competing too. Well that's awesome. So make sure you get Sky if you're wanting to watch and also TV3 as well. These highlights. Incredible. Yeah, awesome. Thank you so much for joining us.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Dames Sophie Pascoe, you're a gem and a national treasure. So thanks you, thank you for joining us. Yeah, man. Very special having you in. Clint, Megan Dan. Your favourite game on the edge just hits. Easy. It's been away for a few months, but it's back.
Starting point is 00:15:42 One letter between E and Z 30 seconds on the clock. No repeated answer. is you could win a thousand dollars. Jess joins us on the line from the Wadarapa. Morning, Jess. Morning. Have you played easy money before? No, I've played in the car with the kids. Oh, yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Are you one of those people that listens and you're like, oh God, you suck? Sometimes they seem a bit easier than what the person's doing. So I've had to look through your list this morning. And you know what? I think it is doable. I think you've got a chance here at winning a thousand bucks. Are you ready? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:18 Okay, so you can pass. Pass as quick as you can. That's my advice, but don't pass too many times. Your letter is the letter F for far out you did well. Okay. Your timer Jess will start as soon as Dan has asked the first question. Jess from Wairapa. Give me an animal.
Starting point is 00:16:38 Frog. An app on your phone? Find my phone. A body part. Foot. Something you buy a ticket for. A flight A song title
Starting point is 00:16:50 Friends A verb Or feeling Something you can drink Santa A gym franchise Oh gosh That was pretty good then
Starting point is 00:17:12 You know what you had a great start So at the start you got five in a row Pretty well easy Very very quickly Then you had I think an iffy answer With the song title friends I think there is a couple of songs It's not to be a song, I think Justin Huber has one called Friends.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Yeah, he does, he does. And then a couple of passes. So, yeah, look, well done, but not quite there this morning, Jess. Awesome, thank you. Thanks, mate. Another chance to play Easy Money after 8 o'clock this morning. Very impressed Jess knew what a verb was. Yeah, I tested Cowell through the song, and he's like, I don't know what that is.
Starting point is 00:17:43 Next. Do a haircut. I've got a bit of a mop going on upstairs. See that. And there's a situation where I go to a headdress. and I get the same hair cut every time to the point where I've got a photo I show the person because I usually get a different hairdresser
Starting point is 00:18:03 I go in just to a barber and they're very good there but I always just end up showing them the same photo and it's, I'm not going to show you the photo yet because I want to sort of reveal that at the end but does anyone else do this where they go to the hairdresser maybe it's the barber?
Starting point is 00:18:20 I'd say a lot of female listeners would do this where they go in And they say, I want this. And they hold up a photo of a famous person. And whether that be Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer, I'm just thinking Jennifer Coulmage. Different female actresses or, you know, singers. Maybe I want the Ariana Grande look. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:44 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Does that help you with your hairdressing experience or does it hinder you? And I'd like to speak to as well, maybe even hairdressers. that do haircuts that are given a photo of a famous person when they're doing a haircut does that help you
Starting point is 00:18:59 or do you always go oh my God you're never going to look like Jennifer Cool well well I feel like that's the issue like I'm not one to take a photo in probably need to because they come out of a haircut
Starting point is 00:19:10 then what do you say though I'll just say like I want to tidy up just cut around here and cut around there but I feel like once you show them a photo in your head you think you're going to look like that person but you're never going to look like that person
Starting point is 00:19:23 No, but I'm not necessarily wanting to I'm wanting my hair to look exactly like that person And I think quite often the hairdresser It's probably like you don't have the hair for that Yeah, you know Didn't wrong texture, wrong length Okay, well who's... I'm gonna show you the photo that I bring up every time
Starting point is 00:19:38 Oh this can be... It's a celebrity It's a celebrity Like very famous or just kind of like B list I would say they're bang in the A list Oh wow Like good looking celebrity Oh god yes Like far better looking than I am
Starting point is 00:19:52 But I would say One, saving graces, that they have this similar hair to me. Now, this is going to be funny because I'm going to see this photo, and I'm going to tell you, you're kidding if you think you have the same hair. Okay, I'm going to hold up the photo now. Do I say who it is? You can say who it is. Yeah, well, it's Radio Cal.
Starting point is 00:20:09 Here we go. You prick. It's Justin Bieber. It's like Prime 2016, Justin Bieber. Are you kidding? You're 30 years old. He's like 20 years. your hair is not like that
Starting point is 00:20:27 well wait you show me it is my hair is very similar to his so you're gonna go in as a how I have done many times how old are you Dan 37 you're 37 why you look great for 37 you're gonna go on as a 37 year old man and show your your barber a photo of a 20 year old Justin Bieber and say I want that yeah oh that's embarrassing
Starting point is 00:20:47 other people do it other people you'd find someone that kind of I don't know, is within your age bracket or looks somewhat similar. No, but I can't really find anybody else that's famous has a similar kind of hairstyle. At that photo, too? You're joking.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Oh, 800 The Edge. Text through to 33443. Do you do this? And I'm not asking for people that have Justin Bieber as they have muse. But like, do you take in a photo of a celebrity to the hairdresser and go, I want that? Or do you do what cow does and just explain it?
Starting point is 00:21:22 Just want to go. Also on a side note, as well, are you a hairdresser that gets this? Is it helpful to get the photo or is it helpful if they just explain it? Oh, God. So hairdressers and people that get haircuts, oh, 800 of the edge right now. We'll talk to you next. We're talking about getting a haircut. And if you show the hairdresser a photo before you get said haircut, I do it.
Starting point is 00:21:43 I show them a photo of, Sue me of Justin Beaver. Because he's got, and this is my opinion, he has a similar kind of hair structure to me. I have a question. Who told you that? I don't think anybody does it. You can't. Okay. I don't think someone said,
Starting point is 00:22:04 you look, you've got the spitting image hairstyle of Justin Bieber. Yeah. Anyway, so that's what I do. And a lot of feedback on this this morning. I think, as a rule of thumb,
Starting point is 00:22:17 a lot of people are showing a photo. Will you're one of those people. Good morning. Good morning. dip-sick band. Yeah, oh, thank you for a little nickname. Now, are you... A bit of a compliment for you there.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Yeah, thank you. Thank you. Now, can I ask who, the photo you have shown to hairdressers in the past? Well, it's twice as embarrassing as yours, but I can still take the piss out of you. Yeah. I used to show, because I'm 50,
Starting point is 00:22:45 I used to show pictures of WAM. Brilliant. And, Duran, so, yeah, that's my age group. So, like... But in my defence, I was 13, 14. not 37. Yes, yeah, no, yeah, I don't think I have any excuse to be honest. I think Justin Bieber is more embarrassing than Wham as well, to be fair.
Starting point is 00:23:02 And so you're not doing it now? No, I use my big boy words, and I say that I want a bit off the top and sides, and can I have a rat pail or a duck's ass at the back, please? Yeah. Oh, maybe I should ask for a duck's ass. Yeah. That's a very 80s thing. Yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:23:22 Oh, well, thanks for that, Will. It's good to know that there is someone else doing it. David also joins us on the line. David, you have a phobia of hairdressers. Yeah, my hair is like Jackson 5 for my old man. So I was over in Australia, living over then. I hate, I hate like hairdressers having to try and spin my, like, Jackson 5 hair out. And when I was living in Australia, I went to get a haircut,
Starting point is 00:23:45 and just halfway through my haircut, and she just looked like she'd been on the Piss the night before and wasn't really too interested. And so when I realized that the haircut was shit, I was kind of bossing for like half a haircut. And I was like, should I do it? Should I do it? And I just got up. Look, there's another teard. Fucked.
Starting point is 00:24:04 I put my hand on, that was half a haircut. And the thing about that was the whole hairdressing, all the girls turned around and were looking at me. I was like, oh, this guy's from New Zealand. Wait, so you walked out of the hairdresser with half a haircut? Surely that would look worse? half a haircut and didn't pay and just said, no, this is just not what I wanted. I don't think you're too interested in cutting my hair. Wow.
Starting point is 00:24:28 Got a little beef with the head with her. I just spruce it out and they would have thought, oh, that bloody kiwi. And I was like, oh, shit, back on with half a haircut. Yeah. I mean, that's got to be awkward when you're getting a haircut and you know that they're doing it wrong. But I would never, I would just let them do it. I think there's always a part, I feel like you start the haircut and you get about halfway and you're like, wow, this looks great. And then they keep going, you're like, and you lost it.
Starting point is 00:24:50 Yeah. A couple of hairdresses have text through who tried to get them on. One person said, I'm a hairdresser and find it super helpful, especially, no, super unhelpful, especially if the client doesn't look anything like the celebrity. If they have the same facial structure, sometimes it can work. This is your problem, dear. Yeah, I don't have the same facial structure to Justin Bieber, do I? Baga.
Starting point is 00:25:10 Oh, well. Oh, God. So I think the rule of thumb is if you look like the celebrity a little bit, take the photo in. if you look nothing like them. Like maybe if you look like Susan Boyle and you're taking in a photo of... That's a photo you need to take in. You've got the same structure as Susan Boyle.
Starting point is 00:25:27 Can I have the Subo, please? Clint Megan Dan. I was heartbroken after reading a story yesterday about Gus, the dog that is in the Todonga, SPCA. He has a long stay there because him and his brother Ace were dropped in at the SPCA. in Tohanga as puppies.
Starting point is 00:25:48 And this poor dog, Gus, has been there for nearly six months. Far out. Which is, classed as a long stay for a dog at the SPCA. A lot of dogs are adopted quite quickly. And the good news is that Andrea Cromden from the Toonga SPCA joins us on the line now. And you've got some good news about Gus. Yeah, yeah, the great news. It really is great news.
Starting point is 00:26:14 Gus has been adopted by a wonderful adopter who's got lots of lovely of cups So yeah, great news That's great because it was obviously in the news yesterday And this person obviously saw it and felt like I did And wanted to adopt Gus He was there, correct me if I'm wrong, for 135 days Exactly, yes
Starting point is 00:26:34 Came in as a young puppy And sort of did some time with us And got well and got healthy And we put him up for adoption And yeah, he had to wait a while but the waiting was worth it. Yeah. I mean, if you don't mind me asking,
Starting point is 00:26:48 how long are dogs often at the SPCA? Like, you get them coming in as puppies maybe. What does the average stay for a dog before they're adopted? It's hard to sort of put an average on it. Some dogs come in as puppies, and they have to wait until they're old enough, obviously, to be de-sexed and leaves the shelter. Other dogs come in.
Starting point is 00:27:14 And usually, to be honest, it's the older dogs that take a while to be adopted. Yeah. And if there is someone listening right now that is wanting to adopt a dog, especially in the Tohunga region, but obviously SPCA is nationwide, is there any other dogs that have been there for a bit longer that need adopting? Yeah, we've got one more left. We've got one more left in his name's Sonic. He's a four-year-old lab cross.
Starting point is 00:27:43 he is an absolute delight he had a rough start but he's ready for adoption he's got a lot of love, a lot of energy some of the dogs that are with us have sort of become a little bit institutionalised and I'd say that that is with Sonic
Starting point is 00:28:03 so we're looking for an extra special person who can take their time and root the wards for their investment because it's there. Just looking at a photo of Sonic now, he looks beautiful. He's a gorgeous little man.
Starting point is 00:28:20 Oh my God. Yeah. And so if you're wanting to adopt, I'm guessing you can go to SPCA.orgia.net and hit the adoption page there, and hopefully we can get Sonic adopted in the next 24 hours, Andrea. Oh, yes. Yeah, please. Come and meet him because he's well worth it.
Starting point is 00:28:37 Yeah. And thank you so much for all the work you guys do in the community with pets. I mean, you guys do an incredible job, and there's so many. What's it like the most busy time of year for you guys? Because I imagine you're getting lots of cats and dogs at certain times in the year. It's been a crazy, crazy season for pups this year. I don't know what's going on. We encourage people to de-sex the animals.
Starting point is 00:29:02 We've just got so many puppies. Our kitten season is over. Kittens only reproduce in the summer. So we've had a little bit of a reprieve, but, yeah, We've got puppies coming out of our ears. So I've got 28 puppies already for adoption at the same time. So please, if you're looking to adopt, yeah, jump on the website and have a lot there. There's something for everybody there.
Starting point is 00:29:29 And Sonic especially just looks like such a beautiful boy. Producer Carl, we've got a bit of a bounceback set up. Yeah, so if you're actually interested in checking out Sonic, I've set up a bounceback, you can text Sonic to 3343. and if you're just interested in SPCA and having a look at some of the other animals just SPCA to 33443. Andrea Cromden from the Taoronga
Starting point is 00:29:47 SPCA, thank you so much this morning. Hey guys, thank you so much for having us and thank you for your kind words. We really appreciate it. No worries. And yeah, they do such an incredible job. I've adopted a couple of cats from the SPCA in my time and they're the best.
Starting point is 00:30:03 They're the best because it's almost like they are grateful. Yeah. Yeah, literally. I mean, you're giving them a second shot at life. And it's so hard going in there and not taking home 10 cats or five dogs. Because they're all just looking at you. Oh, God, that's so hard. Do yourself a favour if you're looking for a pet.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Don't get one from a breeder. Buy one from the SPCA. Clint Meg and Dan. Huge news announced yesterday. You've heard of Love Island, Heartbreak Island, even Temptation Island. But skip the heartbeat and the drama. The New Island is on its way.
Starting point is 00:30:32 Long distance Bessie Island. Fiji! Reunite with your long distance Bessi on a tropical island game. Getaway. No work. No canceled plans. No FaceTimes. Just you. Your bestie. Cocktails and a month's worth of catch-ups in just one epic week from the 15th to the 19th of October. Get returned flights to Fiji. Island accommodation. Packages on sale Friday 8 a.m. Thanks to Duck Horse events. Seeing your bestie with the edge. hits. Wow. That's so cool.
Starting point is 00:31:11 Like, I'm just looking at what the package includes, which they obviously covered there, but there's also food and drinks that are included. You also get professional photos with you and your bestie. Oh, wow. So, like, you're there, because obviously you don't get to have many photos with your bestie if they're long distance, right? So it's like a professional photo show. Oh, you have really nice photos on the beach together.
Starting point is 00:31:30 Yeah, beach. And there's going to be daily activities as well, which you can opt in and out of. So, like, maybe you just want to hang out with your best. mate on the island at Beachcoma. You can do that. You don't have to partake in any of the activities if you don't want to. The activities in question is the thing I'm concerned about. We spoke about that earlier this morning.
Starting point is 00:31:50 I don't know what the activities are. I think Clint Meag and myself are going to have to organise those activities. What's an activity that you would like to do over there? I do like ziplining. Yeah. I do like snorkeling. I do like just sitting around a pool and drinking. Is that an activity?
Starting point is 00:32:07 I think that's a big one, eh? Yeah. All right, guys. Today we are doing Pissol. Yeah. And so these go on sale. So you can actually buy the tickets. You and your best mate,
Starting point is 00:32:16 in and around $3,000 just under. They go on sale this Friday. You can text Bestie to 3343 and get all the details. So you can kind of send that to your best mate and go, is this something we can afford? And we'll go from there. Is there someone that you, if obviously you're not going to, but do you have a bestie out there?
Starting point is 00:32:36 100%. Like my best mate? Chris lives in New York. Oh, wow. And so, I mean, the dream is that he comes along to the island. I think it's going to be a bit more expensive to fly from New York, if I'm honest. Yeah. But if he's living in New York, he's got the money, right?
Starting point is 00:32:50 And flying all the way from New York to Fiji for like four days. Maybe is a bit too much for him. Maybe he could tack on a visit to New Zealand on the end of it. But yeah. I think this would work, this is perfect if you are in New Zealand and your best year is in New Zealand, but you're just into different cities. And you don't see each other often because you've got kids. life gets in the way.
Starting point is 00:33:10 $3,000 each, you are having the week of your lives over in Fiji. Oh, God, yeah. It's just going to be a dream. Yeah, so Bestie, text that to 3, 3, 4, 3, or 5, back all the details. The Clint Meg and Dan podcast. Your favorite game on the edge. Just hits. Easy, maybe.
Starting point is 00:33:27 Yeah, so it's taken a break for a few months. It is back. One letter between E and Z 30 seconds on the clock. No repeated answers. It's that simple. And Shaz joins us on the line. Morning Shaz. Good morning. How are we?
Starting point is 00:33:40 Good. Are you ready to play it easy money? As ready as I'll be. Have you ever played it before or is this first time? No, I play it most mornings, and it's always easier when you're not on the phone. Yeah, there's no pressure. Let's see if you can put your money where your mouth is. I've looked at your list to your questions. I'd say it's doable.
Starting point is 00:33:59 Yep. So good luck, Shaz. Your letter is N for nice work. Perfect. All right, your time is going to start as soon as day. And it finishes answering or asking the first question, Shaz. Yeah, feel free to pass if you want. Shaz, your first question.
Starting point is 00:34:16 Name for me, a brand. Nike. A time of day. Night. A name. Nancy. Something you throw away. Nice clothes.
Starting point is 00:34:29 A personality trait. Noble. A movie. Pass. An adjective. A adjective. Um, noisy. A six-letter word.
Starting point is 00:34:46 Oh, no. Oh, my God, that was one hell of a star. I stood up. That's our best yet so far in terms of this round of easy money. I think you got five in a row to start off with. Then there was a misquestion and a pass. Yeah, the movie. What is the movies that starts with end?
Starting point is 00:35:06 No, the movie ones are always hard. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, for movie, you could have got Night of the Museum, Nanny McPhee, Night of Living Dead, a few options there. but I've got the answers in front of me. I will say the whole adjective thing, like there was one at 7 o'clock that was like describe a verb.
Starting point is 00:35:25 I don't know any of that stuff. An adjective national naked. You don't know the difference. Near necessary, negative, neat. There's so many options. Thanks, Shaz. It was a good effort. Yeah, good effort, mate.
Starting point is 00:35:35 And another chance tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. to play easy money. The Clint Meg and Dan podcast. Some horrific news came out yesterday. Yeah. Hello. Yeah. Turn my mic on, please. I was shocked.
Starting point is 00:35:46 To be honest, I was like, was not expecting, I don't think anybody was expecting the news that Rhythm and Vines will be moving to an undisclosed location in 2027, which means this year will be the last year of the Wio Hicka State. That's so crazy. Because to me, and to a lot of R&V goers, that is R&V. It's the location, you know?
Starting point is 00:36:06 Well, could you even call, like, they'd have to find another vineyard. Because it's not vineyard. Oh, yeah, I guess, yeah. Or somewhere with Vines, because you can't call it Rhythm and Vines. You can't call it Rhythm and vibes. Yes. true. It's a bit cringe though, no.
Starting point is 00:36:19 Yeah, well there's Rhythm and Alps, you know, so they do it in the Alps. So maybe they could change it to specific. Well, Rhythm and Alps are very different. That's already a thing. Yeah, I know, but no, but you could change it to somewhere like another thing. Like, they've got the Alps. So you could change it if you go to a different place. Rhythm and slopes.
Starting point is 00:36:35 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There's so many options, but it's so sad to see it leaving. I know. I'm a Hacker Estate. It's really is like a ride of passage. for young New Zealanders.
Starting point is 00:36:50 And it just, it really just feels like a massive end of an era. One of those things where it's like, you know, all good things must come to an end, but why this? Yeah. They could move it to Greymouth and they could call it Rhythm and Glory Avale. You know, like there's lots of options they could have. Rhineland Glory. Maybe you could do this.
Starting point is 00:37:04 Oh, 800 the Edge. Give us a call this morning and pitch why they should bring rhythm and vines to your city or town. Yes. You couldn't do it in Auckland. Could yeah. Well, if you're in Auckland and you want to call and pitch Auckland for for it. Rhythm and Mount Smart Stadium.
Starting point is 00:37:20 That's an option. It doesn't have the same ring to it, does it? No, not really. Not really. Yeah, where are you in the country? And why does your town or city deserve to have rhythm and vines there? Now that it's moving.
Starting point is 00:37:30 Because maybe they haven't even figured it out, and they're like actually taking options, you know? Really pitch your city. They haven't announced where it's going to be. All right, 0800 the edge. Why should it be at your place? The Clint Meg and Dan podcast. Big news yesterday that R&V will no longer
Starting point is 00:37:46 be held in Gisbon. Yeah, this year is the last year at Y Hicka Estate, which means it'll be moving to an undisclosed location in 2027, which could mean they still haven't decided where it's going to be. Yeah. Tickets to go on sale, I think, for the final one. I think pre-sales open early next week. Early next week.
Starting point is 00:38:03 There's like a 1NZ pre-sale and then their own rhythm legends pre-sale. You're just expected to this one to sell out really quickly, right? I'm really scared I'm going to miss out on tickets. It doesn't even matter about the lineup because people will be like, I want to be there for the last one ever. Maybe an unpopular opinion, or maybe a very popular opinion for R and Vgoers, I think that they should restrict it to people who have already been there. True fans.
Starting point is 00:38:25 You have to prove. You have to prove that you've been there and you've been there since the start or something. They asked like a question, like, what's the name of the hill in front of the main stage? Yeah. If you can't answer that, you're not allowed to come. Yeah. Okay, so we wanted to know this morning, oh, 800 of the edge, you can text through as well, 334.3.
Starting point is 00:38:38 Why does your town or city deserve to get rhythm and binds after it finishes up in Gisbon this year? A few texts coming through. Someone said it could be rhythm and potholes in Hamilton. Rhythm and roadworks in Auckland, similar vibe. Rhythm and roundabouts, palmy north. Let's go to Kristen. Christchurch, you live in Christchurch. Certainly, Kristen.
Starting point is 00:38:59 Yes. So why does Christchurch deserve rhythm and vines? It could be rhythm and road cones, and we do it at the cathedral with the cardboard cathedral. Oh, my gosh, you've got to fit 40,000 people there? Yeah, it'd be a tight squeeze. You could just in Christchurchase. and Christchurch you can just call it rhythm and cones and cover all bases.
Starting point is 00:39:21 It has the cardboard cathedral so that you can actually make it bigger with the cardboard. Yeah, that's true. That's true. Maybe they would get the money finally to fix it up. That is a good option. Nella joins us. Whereabouts in the country are you, Nella? Rotorua. Oh, Rotaweigua. Okay, why does Rotorua deserve Rhythm and vines in 2020-7?
Starting point is 00:39:42 Because of our smell, we could call it Rhythm and fart. Brilliant. I love it already The name itself sells it Oh my God You know what Controversially I love the smell
Starting point is 00:39:55 In Rotorua Like whenever I drive through We go down to our There's a family batch down in Taraweta You drive through Road of Vegas to get there And I always put all the windows down And go
Starting point is 00:40:04 Just breathe in that sulphur I'm like that with manure Yeah Oddly Yeah A few more text here Rhythm and Cousins Gore
Starting point is 00:40:14 Oh that could be Rhythm and cousins. That could be covered a lot of places. That would work in Dagaville as well. That's crazy. Rhythm and elderly at Kittie Kiti. I like this one call it. Rhythm and Wines and just have a little local Chinese B.Way-O on a Saturday night.
Starting point is 00:40:28 And this one here, rhythm and glass barbecues. What's that? That's in Karawa. That's a glass barbecue. Kawu. But I think, why would you have a glass barbecue? I feel like that's a risky thing to have with you eating up steaks and stuff if it's glass.
Starting point is 00:40:43 That's pretty crazy. Rhythm in Red Zone and Christchurch. I mean there's so many options Keep them coming through We'll send them through to the organisers And rhythm and vines And maybe they can get some ideas Yeah I'm sorry I'm in
Starting point is 00:40:53 Rhythm and tourists in Queensland Rhythm and boomers And Mount Monganui There's so many options There's so many options Clint Meg and Dan Oh my gosh Talking nightmare neighbours
Starting point is 00:41:03 And everybody's had one I If you haven't had one I hazard to guess you're the nightmare Yeah I think that's me in my situation I think our neighbours are all fine So we must not be I feel like I'm like
Starting point is 00:41:15 I'm like a magnet for nightmare neighbours. I mean, I've had the man that had his dog constantly defecating on our front lawn. I've currently got a man across the road from us that brings us all his deformed fruit. I feel like that's fine. That's just him being nice. It is nice, but it's also like,
Starting point is 00:41:31 eat it yourself. Why are you bringing the... Bring us the nice fruit. Yeah, hard. Stop giving us the deformed stuff. I don't want it. We ended up throwing it out or donating it. But I mean, it's hard. Because we've currently got someone living next door to us
Starting point is 00:41:44 who are doing renovations. And this is 11pm on Monday night. Have a listen. It is now 1127 at night. And I don't know if you can hear it. I mean, I can obviously hear it the sound of our neighbours generator, which has been going constantly
Starting point is 00:42:04 for the last 48 hours. God, it's so loud. It is so loud. And I mean, you think of us hearing that, that's from a phone recording. It must have been like five times. It was double. Yeah, that doesn't do it justice.
Starting point is 00:42:14 My wife Hannah went over the day after that and confronted them and asked if they could turn it off and they said no, it was powering their central heating so they couldn't turn it off. So we just had to stay up all night listening to it. Pisses me right off. I don't want to go into gender roles but I feel like that should be you going over there doing that.
Starting point is 00:42:28 Oh, I can't. I can't do confrontation. You're a pussy. And also I'm scared that they'll be a listener and then they won't stop listening to the show. Oh, true. That's such a good point. If I go over there and they're like, oh, he's a dick. Even though you're the ones that are keeping us up at night.
Starting point is 00:42:42 Yeah, I think it's valid. Was it on last night? No, it was off like last night. So I wonder, because we spoke about it briefly yesterday, I wonder if they heard it. And they are listeners. Oh, no. But I wanted to do this.
Starting point is 00:42:56 Oh, 800 the edge. You can text through as well, 3343. What was the nightmare neighbor doing in your place? Nightmare neighbors. Yeah, like this person that's texted through, the guy next door to us has a rooster. We live in the middle of Auckland. Honestly, scum of the earth.
Starting point is 00:43:12 Who the hell? In a built up area, suburbia gets a rooster. Honestly, that man needs to be, oh, that would, I'd be straight over there. We had, I mentioned it before, one of our neighbours had a raid at their house. Like a police raid, yeah. Swatting. I know, it was like one morning. But like, just the loveliest man.
Starting point is 00:43:35 So I wouldn't say he's like a nightmare neighbor. It's just a bit of like, there's always that neighborhood drama. You know what, though? Sometimes it's the loveliest people that are the scummiest. Well, I think it was just, he was just selling marijuana. Oh, well, that's still legal. Larissa joins us morning, Larissa. Thanks.
Starting point is 00:43:51 Why have you got a nightmare neighbour? We had a neighbour who decided that we closed our front door too loud, so he would take it upon himself to come over and show us how to do it correctly. What? Were you living in like an apartment situationary at this point? No, we were just living in general suburbia. Oh my God, that's so petty. Why?
Starting point is 00:44:14 Like, was it keeping him up at night that you were closing it too loud? It was it annoying and that you were ruining your door? Yeah, he reckoned that it was too loud, so it was keeping him and his wife up at night, and then they had a baby, so it was keeping the baby up for the three times we came home. That, you know what I'd do? I'd make sure I shut it even louder.
Starting point is 00:44:31 That would not stop me from closing it quietly. But, like, admittedly, though, Larissa, do you think you were slamming the doors? No, it's not Larissa's fault. I don't think we were I think because it was a glass or obviously it makes that rattling noise Oh yeah
Starting point is 00:44:46 Yeah But I mean I feel like We got the better end of the story Because our flatmate was actually looking at buying a car So he took it upon himself To buy a V8 that week And he had to warm it up at 4 a.m every morning Right outside
Starting point is 00:45:00 Oh God if you can go and get a car That needs warming up Yeah that's crazy Don't buy a V8 and don't buy it in suburbia That's obnoxious Thanks for your call Larissa Louise is here as well. Morning Louise.
Starting point is 00:45:12 Hi there, how are you? Yeah, good. So you had nightmare neighbours as well. This involves a dog? Oh, I still have nightmare neighbours. We moved like four months ago to a new property in Ram Rala. And I've come from the country, so I've never had neighbours in my life. Oh, this is new for you.
Starting point is 00:45:31 Yes. And when we went to look at the house, we never heard the dog once. but when we moved in the dog has barked for four months straight that's always the way isn't it the dog is always like you don't see the bad things until you move in yeah like I never met
Starting point is 00:45:50 before I moved to my carny house I never met the man that brings over the deformed fruit until we moved in I feel like there needs to be like a period even if it's just one night ideally a week where you get to trial living you know because overnight you don't know what happens until you move in
Starting point is 00:46:01 yeah and we've got the person that owns a rooster in suburbia Kay Lee good morning hello good morning You are the nightmare neighbour. So you live in like a built-up area and you own a rooster. So we thought it was a chicken until one day. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:46:21 So you still have it. Have you had complaints from the neighbours? No, but I bumped into my neighbour at the supermarket and apologise to her and I said just let me have some baby chickens. Oh, good. Oh, there you go. So, yeah, you were helping with eggs and chickens and stuff. So that's interesting. Yeah, she was not happy.
Starting point is 00:46:37 She goes right outside of my bedroom window. Oh my God, what time does he crow in the mornings? Ah, that's about 4.30. No. Honestly, I would be straight over to your house, Kaylee. I'd be waving my fist up and down. Oh, my goodness me. That's great.
Starting point is 00:46:54 He's so cute, though. He eats out of your hand and everything, and he's beautiful. I don't care. Chickens do the same, and they're quiet. Yeah, and also, chickens and roosters look very different. Well, you know, when they're babies, they don't, though. That doesn't think the problem is. They can turn in for roosters.
Starting point is 00:47:08 so chickens can turn into roosters and that's what? Stop trying to make it okay, Kaylee. Is that actually a thing that chickens did? I thought it was that you're a rooster and you're a rooster. Well, I guess anything these days. It happened. Okay.
Starting point is 00:47:20 You know what, I don't have time, Kaylee, to be fair. But thanks so much for your call. That would be so annoying. Oh, God, I'd hate that. Roosters are for a farm. Want to hear more of Clint, Meg and Dan, but completely unfiltered. Catch their Overthinkers audio and video pod every single day on the Rover app.
